On friday, july 31, 2015 i brought my 2005 honda civic ex [which was in good working condition with no srs or mil lights on] to honda of kingston on broadway to be serviced on august 1st for the takata air bag recall. When i picked up my car on monday, august 3rd they told me everything went well and that they had also performed a "complimentary inspection" of my tires, breaks, fluids etc. -- something they never informed me they planned on doing, something i would have never consented to in the first place. They also failed to inform me that my srs light was now on, and what that means. I pulled over on my way home to call and inquire about the light and they told me they could not fit me in until thursday, august 6th to diagnose it. Driving home, my car began shaking and rattling and became almost impossible to drive. I brought it to the nearest available mechanic who discovered the lug nuts on the front left tire were not secured properly by the technicians at honda of kingston, and it was close to falling off. They fixed and secured the tire for me and i notified honda of the incident. They agreed to pay the cost of securing the tire, however they informed me that diagnosing my srs light will cost me $107, and depending on what the issue is, could cost a few hundred to a thousand more. I've never had any issues with the air bag system or the srs light, until it was serviced by honda of kingston. The srs light obviously indicates that the airbag recall work was not performed correctly, and now the dealer is attempting to charge me to repair it. Not only could i have crashed due to the negligence of the technicians and their inability to even secure a tire properly, but my srs would not have deployed the airbag, even though i was assured when i left with my car that everything went well and my car was in good shape.

On the date indicated, i was involved in a collision with an oncoming vehicle while making a left hand turn.the air bag did not deploy.the vehicle was declared a total loss by my insurer.the adjusters that performed the assessment stated that the airbag should have deployed in this accident.this is a potential problem with the safety restraint system.

Airbag light is on steadily in highway, stationary or in motion

I took my car into the honda dealer in hollywood florida by appointment and was told that i had to leave my car with them indefinitely for no more than 30 days because they did not have enough "bags" to make the recall repair.this creates a hardship for me because i need my car for work, grocery shopping and emergencies should one occur.i complied by making an appointment, waiting until that day under risk of accident because of the defective airbag, and showing up on time.the honda rep. Did not acknowledge my appointment and informed me that i can leave the car or refuse to leave it.i am currently stranded without a car with no idea when i would get my car back and i was not given a receipt or document stating that i had left my car at the dealership. Only a business card from the representative who took possession of my car.i feel this interrupts my ability to survive and puts me in danger should an emergency occur and i need to get to a hospital.it is not my error and i should not be forced into this precarious position by threat of voiding honda's responsibility to correct this fault in the car by refusing to leave it at the honda shop for up to 30 days.the repair should be done immediately or a rental should be provided at honda's cost.

Takata recall i'm very concerned that my car should be in all the recalls since *i carry infants, children, and adults as passengers!* with so many other years before and after mine was made are included. My air bag warning light has been on and my mechanic said that it should be included in the recall.

I first noticed the problem with the head lights dim from regular brightness to really low while driving. Then i noticed the lights inside the car doing the same dim while the engine is off.and today, on my dashboard i noticed the srs indicator light turned on red, and stays on red as i drive it. Everything is original on the vehicle, no after market. Vehicle has never been in an accident and no repairs have been made, minor or major.

Honda is not taking the takata problem seriously, and they are showing no urgency to get these airbags fixed.the dealership where i bought my car, landmark honda in alexandria, virginia, will not do recall repairs on saturday.they appear to be completely indifferent to the danger of the takata problem.the main honda number put me on hold for a long time, so i eventually gave up trying to reach them.nhtsa needs to force the dealerships to do these airbags repairs on weekends so that car owners will bring in their cars.

I received recall notification (14v-351) dated september 2014 for air bag lamp and it states " affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture".it also states that i should call any authorized honda dealer and make an appointment to have my vehicle's driver's front airbag inflator replaced, at no cost to me. I have notified tony honda located on ka uka, hawaii four times. The first representative i spoke to said that they will charge me if the air bag lamp that is on in my vehicle doesn't match the description ofthe recall. I then asked for an appointment, and they said that someone will contact me. After over a week i haven't received a call, i left messages regarding status of my vehicle and would like to take of it asap, especially if it's a recall!. I have not received any call backs regarding appointment. Over four attempts, and received no support from tony honda. I've been driving my vehicle to and from work everyday with my spouse and children hoping that it's just an electronic issue! there's not a day that goes by that i think of "what happens if it's not an electronic issue, and it deploys". If you can help me by providing support to take care of this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and hope to hear from you soon. Have had front and passenger takata airbags removed and replaced a few years ago.but the (4-door) drivers side airbag and passenger side airbag (front only) have not been recalled, as far as my research tells me.the car, with approx. 55,000 miles on it, just sits in my driveway never used since.i had the expense and inconvenience of leasing a subaru forester to be safe.i cannot sell it because of the danger of the side door airbags would kill someone i sell it to.it is not safe.if i could at least have them removed, that would be safer than having metal pieces all over me in a side impact.scared to death to drive it,help!

My daughter has a 2005 honda civic hybrid. Her car was involved in a one person accident. Her boyfriend was driving and fell asleep at the wheel. He hit a dip in the road on california highway (blue slide rd @ neymouth bluff rd). He went off a 15 foot drop off and then rolled the car 150 yards to the bottom of a ravine. He had his seat belt on. The car had four airbags - none of which deployed.they had to cut the seat belt to get him out and then cut off the top of the roof.there was no front bumper left on the car.he is in critical condition in a california hospital with major head trauma and no facial bone left intact in his face. If the air bags, even one of them had deployed the damage would have been far less.

Honda civic air bagnever replaced never notified

I have had a recall on the front dashboard takata airbags in the past and had them replaced promptly.however, that model civic side airbags attached to the two front doors were not recalled, even though the 2005 accords were.only have approx. 55,000 miles.can i get them removed from doors?very reluctant to sell to anyone because of danger if an accident.i had to lease another vehicle and let it sit in driveway because of above.otherwise, it is an excellent old car.

The air bagwhite has been on for so long and i didn't know there was a recall i sideswiped a car it was not my fault the other night and the airbag didn't deploy and i bumped my head

The manufacturer failed or wasn't able to remedy the safety recall on my vehicle in a timely manner

Takata recall

I received a safety recall notice for my airbag and i called the honda hotline number on the notice to have them arrange to fix it. Received a case number, but have not heard back from them in months. I have tried calling in, but they keep saying they are out of stock and the case manger will call me. Have not been able to talk to a case manager yet.

Dt:consumer stated her son was involved in a rollover accident. Prior to the accident the anti-lock brakes did not work and the air bags did not deploy on impact.the dealership told her the airbags could still be checked to see if they are defective.the vehicle rolled twice and the front end hit the ditch.there was dew on the road and there was a deer in the road.he then slammed on the brakes and they locked up.there was a police report filed.he sustained a bruise collar bone, bruises on his legs, a bump on his head and he has to go to the dentist this week to have his teeth checked.the vehicle was totaled and when the consumer called the dealership they told her to call and file a complaint.

2005 honda civic 4dr manual transmission frontal collision at highway speed - airbags did not deploy, front seat belt failed to restrain driver who contacted steering wheel.driver injured and transported to hospital via ambulance; vehicle towed and insurance adjuster states vehicle damaged beyond repair and a total loss. Based on my experience (7 years as a 911 emt)the airbags ought to have deployed with this severity of impact, and their failure to do so needs to be investigated.

Takata recallthe joliet dodge superstore at 3225 plainfield road in joliet, illinois, 60431 supposedly replaced my defective air bag.since that time the air bag light has remained on.it is clear there is a problem with the air bag that they either installed or caused.they now refuse to fix the problem either they caused or are responsible for but instead want me to pay $700 to fix the air bag.i report these people because i refuse to pay any money for an air bag that is being recalled that they were not competent enough to even fix!please contact them and ask them why they are charging people for air bag work !

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. While making a left turn, the vehicle was involved in a head on collision. The air bag failed to deploy. The car giving weird sound and well as sometimes it's showing the airbag indicator even after recall so please help

I received a recall notice for the drivers side airbag and scheduled an appointment to have the recall fixed.shortly after the drivers side air bag was fixed the air bag dash light came on and remains on to this day.a few months after the driver side air bag recall was fixed i received a second recall notice for the passenger side air bag.upon taking the vehicle in for the second recall i inquired about the air bag light staying on.they proceeded to tell me that the relay located in the seat belt buckle was the cause of this problem and that it would cost $403.upon my research of the internet and speaking with others who also had this same problem after the recall air bags were fixed, is seems like this is a common problem.honda disagrees that this is any cause that they have done....just coincidence that so many other people are having this same problem after the recall on the air bags are fixed.honda claims that it is a relay switch located in the seat belt buckle.it just seems to be such a common problem after the air bags problem is fixed.i tried to tell them also that my car has a life time warranty on the seat belt.they declined to fix it, saying that the problem was an electrical problem.so i asked them what it means since the air bag light is on in the dash.honda says that the air bags will not work if i am in an accident, since the air bags cannot tell that the seat belt is buckled.so the bottom line is the air bags will not deploy if in an accident because the dash light came on after they tried to fix the air bags.the remedy for this according to honda is a new seat belt buckle of which they will not cover in the lifetime warranty on the seat belt because they claim it is an electrical issue.it was my understanding that auto makers had to fix safety features that malfunction.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated after the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 15v370000 (air bags). The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 152,522.

Takata recallon september 1 2015 i had a rollover accident down a embankment.my airbags did not deploy. I flipped off a cliff & rolled, my airbags did not work!!

"takata recall" reports and vehicle safety test reports are un-satisfactory with the 2005 honda civic. I have requested fucco honda to resolve an airbag warning light on my dashboard, and fucco honda has failed to repair my vehicle after service appointments and safety inspections.

Was recently tboned at a red light, driver door, passenger door and frame dented in. I was spun around three times before coming to a stop. Front driver airbag and passenger airbag failed to deploy. Window won't roll fully down, driver and passenger stick and hard to open, lock makes a buzzing sound, seatbelt now stuck and seatbelt indicator dings even when fastened.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the front passenger air bag deployed even though the vehicle was not involved in a crash. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 151,568 and the current mileage 151,600.

Again, if humidity is a factor in airbag defect, how do i know my vehicle is safe to drive during the summer(?) in new york.

04/22/06 auto accident. Front impact at 50 mph and airbags did not deploy. Impact appears to be just above the bumper on the right side but on the bumper on the drivers side as both fenders and the hood and the front grill and bumper were damaged. Pictures are available on request.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. While the contact was driving approximately 30 mph, another vehicle crashed into the front driver side of the vehicle. All air bags deployed except the driver air bag. The driver sustained bruises and injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

2005 honda civic contain only the driver and the air bag did not deploy, driver sustain fractured shoulder and extensive bruising in the chest area, and swollen sternum. I love honda but with this happening i'm not happy at all and nothing is being done to compensate me for my injuries because it's stated that honda carries a good name, the service, and the product and yes that's what convinced me to buy but with this happening i have change my mind, because it's said that airbags suppose to deploy in the event of an accident, especially if your the only one in the vehicle. When you hit someone from the rear a sensor should react and it didn't for me. Know with this being said i think another look should be taken into consideration on when the airbag should come out. I could have lost my life. How would you feel with it was you or your love one.

2005 honda civic airbags did not deploy in an accident. Consumer states that the airbags did not deploy and would like honda to pay for medical bills.

Was the 3rd car in a 3 car accident on i-5 north heading to seattle going 60mph.the passenger side airbag deployed, but not the driver's side, and there was only the driver in the car.

Car was involved in a front end collision and the driver's air bag did not deploy resulting in chest injuries to the driver.

Dt*:the contact stated the airbags did not deploy in a crash.at approximately 30-40 mph the vehicle exited the roadand hit numerous trees, landing in a ditch.everything on the vehicle was damaged except the driver's side door.the vehicle was totaled, and a police report was taken at the scene.the insurance company determined the airbags did not deploy because of the angle at which the vehicle collided with both the trees and ditch.

Cpsc# i1180266a.2005 honda civic hybrid. Consumer stated that she wasin a motor vehicle accident and the airbag did not deploy.*lnthe consumer rear ended a vehicle that was stopped.

Resentments tuve un accidente con mi vehiculo honda civic 2005.el impacto fue uno fuerte en la parte delantera de la unidad; estaba utilizando el cinturon de seguridad y aun asi las bolsas de aire nunca se activaron.

I was traveling 25-30 mph when a blazer pulled out in front of me, after hitting them...i realized that neither airbag deployed ( i don't have an airbag on/off switch) . This was odd because we hit directly in the middle on the front of our 2005 honda civic (4-door) and the tow man said that there was a senor on both the drivers side and the passenger side, but only the passenger side looked as if it hadn't been hit. Now while speaking with the police my wife was asked how fast we were traveling at time of impact and she was not sure, asking the officer "how fast do you need to be traveling to deploy the airbags? because it must not have been that fast neither one had triggered." the officer stated well he would have to go check this out because the accident scene and the honda's damage he had just assumed that the airbags were deployed. Now i have 7 stitches above my eye and bruised chest and knees, and my wife has a chipped bone in her neck. I would not be so upset but this car had about 3500 miles on it and i had made 3 cars payments, and everytime i search for honda and safety features the thing i read the most is how it had a 5 star rating for front impact for airbags. I have also read up on the new airbags with the settings for how fast, size, and position of the passengers, which in this case my wife and i were both looking forward and both she and i are full sized adults and i am not sure of the speed in which these new airbags fall under, but 25-30 is still enough speed for a good impact and we hit right in the front of our vehicle...we also had my 13 month old daughter who was fine. But with all this said i don't understand with everything stated and we the car as far as we know right now considered totaled why we are hurt more because there were no airbags to save us. Thank you for your time.

Dt:consumer has a new honda civic. The srs indicator light has not worked properly since he owned the vehicle. The srs indicator light alerts consumer of potential problems with airbags or seat belts. The srs light has been on since he first purchased vehicle. Took vehicle to dealer 4 times for the srs light, and the light remained on. Dealer reset the computer, hopingthe srslight wouldnot come on any more, but srslightcontinued to come on. Also, dealerreplaced passenger front seat ,belt and this did not keep srslight from coming on.seat belt was replaced on may 12, 2005, vehicle was at dealer for srs light on march 31, 2005, april 29, 2005 and june 2, 2005. Owners manual stated that ignoring the srs indicator could result in serious injury or death if the airbag systems orsea tbelts do not work properly.

Purchased vehicle new 7/6/05. On 12/18/06, 31k miles, brought it to dealer with srs light on. Dealer determined the passenger seatbelt tensioner needed replacement. Repair was effected. Srs light on again, brought to dealer 1/2/07, 32.5k miles. The passenger seatbelt buckle was replaced. Srs light on again (observed after going over a section of uneven pavement), brought to dealer 1/16/07, 33.4k miles. I think that time they reset the computer component. Srs light on again 1/20/07, 33.5k miles, passenger seatbelt tensioner replaced again. Srs light on again 5/2/07, 39.5k miles, the entire passenger restraining system and computer component were replaced by dealer. Srs light on again 6/5/07, 41k miles, car is with dealer now. During this time i have been unable to determine any action that triggers the srs light to come on. This last time the passenger seat had been empty for the previous 2 days.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic hybrid. The contact stated while driving 15-20 mph, another vehicle crashed into him at a head-on angle from the passenger side front wheel. The side air bags did not deploy but the driver and passenger air bags did. The driver was severely injured and two people in the other vehicle were moderately injured. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed. An accident reconstruction report was also available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The current and failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I was driving and took a left turn going to fast about 40-50 and the car rolled over upside down. The airbags didn't go off while i was hanging upside down.

Dealership (spreen honday of redlands california)failed to complete airbag repair (damaged other parts during "repair") and honda of america won't get involved to resolve the issue. Dealership damaged integrity of dash by hacking out an unseen section as shortcut, used duct tape for electrical wiring, and left a piece of dash padding in my ac system. This was discovered june 2018 when changing cabin air filter.

I purchased a 2005 honda civic new. The vehicle now belongs to my son.the vehicle was taken to the honda dealer for maintenance since i purchased it.approx. 6 months ago my son was stopped by the police on several occasions due to the license plate light and all of the tail lights being in-op.it was taken immediately to the dealer.they replaced the bulbs did a diagnostic check and the light still did not work.they could not figure it out.he took the vehicle to meineke for state inspection and of course it could not pass due to the lights.when the mechanic look at the wiring it had been sliced in three different places and taped back together.the wiring had either been jimmied apart, or something snagged them.i never added anything to the car.it belong to me until sept last year.it is apparent it came from the factory this way.it cost several hundred dollars to correct.honda is not helping me with this.

**i am reporting this problem because i have noticed the same tail-lighting failure on dozens of seventh-generation honda civics now on the road.**my 2005 honda civic 4-dr sedan failed its 2013 virginia safety inspection because the license-plate light and trunk-located brake lights (of which there are two) were not working.i took the car to landmark honda of alexandria, va., and they discovered that the wiring in the car's trunk was broken.they soldered the wire to fix the problem.in february 2014 i experienced the same problem and took the sedan to my local dealer in boston, mass., where i now live (honda cars of boston).they discovered that the soldering had failed and they replaced a trunk wiring harness to better resolve the problem.i spent approximately $500 between the two repair jobs at the two honda dealers.i am concerned that all seventh-generation honda civics may suffer from a wiring defect that affects vehicles' visibility on the road.i am the original owner of this vehicle.

Air bag lite is on

From the day i purchased it, the needle on the speedometer would periodically fluctuate. It was only ever noted on the service reports once. This mention occurred before the factory warranty expired, and the only note from the dealership was that they were unable to duplicate the problem. The needle finally froze on 80mph in 12/06. The dealership charged me $80 just to tell me the speedometer's electrical assembly needed to be replaced, that it would cost several hundred dollars, and that none of the work would be warranted, despite the fact that it had been a documented problem from the date of purchase.when the extended warranty i purchased would not cover any of this either, i called american honda and filed a complaint. Their only offer was to pay for the parts, not the labor. I told them this was not acceptable. Some time later i received a letter in the mail notifying me of a class-action law suit filed against american honda for the same problems i'm having with my car. I contacted american honda again at the beginning of this year to try once more to resolve this issue. I was told that i would have to take my car to the dealership for a second diagnosis of the problem. I told them that i would be unable to do this because not only is it an inconvenient loss of time, it's another $80 i would have to pay for them to tell me exactly what they've told me before. Talking to american honda is an absolute waste of time. The second electrical issue involves the radio and cd player. I had a new cd in one day when it suddenly stopped playing and the display flashed "hot", spitting the cd out. The cd itself was so hot it melted the top portion. Still under warranty, i took it to the dealership, where they rolled me right on through service, brushing the problem off as insignificant. This car is a fire hazard. Because of american honda, i am operating a vehicle without a properly functioning speedometer, which is against the law.

2005 honda civic sedan , ignition switch failure , key will not turn either way in ignition , drove to store ,, when i came out of store ,, ignition was locked up ,, honda had ignition switch recall ,,when i called them , they said it wasn't on list of recalls , tho they had over 1 million replaced in other vehicles ,,, somehow in honda's theory , my situation is different , go figure !!

I had common wealth motors in lawrence massachusetts replace my air bag in on 08/05/2015 due to many post card warnings i kept receiving by mail.soon after, a light indicating my seat belt connected to my airbag continues to stay on.i went back to common wealth motors because of an inspection sticker issue with this light problem and they tried to get me to pay over 500.00 dollars to fix the issue as well as shut the light off. It is 12/8/17 and the light is still on.

As i was making a right hand turn, a key from my key ring became lodged in a screw hole in the steering wheel. As i was exiting the turn, the lodged key ran up into the arm of the wiper blades control, preventing the wheel from straightening out. As a result, the vehicle continued turning and ran into a parked car. The reporting police officer observed and noted the defect in his police report. No ticket was issued.

Car locks itself immediately when car key is inside. If you put your child inside and car key is inside while you are trying to close back door after putting your child in car seat and come to drive door, car locks itself immediately on closing back door even remote key is inside. Essentially it locks your child inside car until you brake window or call somebody to open car for you. Imagine it happens in hot summer and your baby locks inside the car.

Cranked carwent to work got back in car ignition would not turn had a couple of times give me a fitsame symptoms asall the other recalls.

Honda civic hybrid 2005. Engine light came on a few weeks ago and has since remained on. Took car to autozone for computer assessment and was reported that there are issues with the oxygen sensors attached thecatalytic converter. Local honda dealership reported an issue with the software. Update is available, however they are issuing a charge of $70.00 to update and therefore fix the issue.

Owner of a 2005 honda civic lx four-door.having 62,000 miles on it, the car would not start.after bringing the car into the union park dealership here in wilmington, delaware, they told me that my alternator needed to be replaced.total cost for replacement was $448.00.i believe it is totally unreasonable that the alternator should have to be replaced at 62,000 miles, was very costly to have the repair done, and as a result has left me out of funds to have routine preventive maintenance of transmission fluid and radiator coolant flushed/replaced before this coming winter.i believe that this is proof that honda is using inferior products in their honda civic vehicles, as evidenced by alternator replacement in less than three years, and the rear control rod defect related to the 2007 civic ex. This is one of many recent defects/recalls i have experiencedrelated to honda's civic '07 and '05 automobiles.also having a 2007 honda civic ex, with only 22,000 miles on the vehicle, i had the wheels rotated by union park dealership.after getting vehicle back and experiencing a howling noise while driving, i brought the vehicle in.after doing my own investigation, and never being informed of a recall issue related to the rear control arms/rods being defective by honda, i had to pay $337.00 out of pocket to have all four tires replaced.it is from this point forward that i pray nothing else goes wrong with these vehicles, and that looking into the future, after being a four-time honda vehicle owner, i will not be consideringthe purchase of another honda vehicle.

The alternator gave out with only 46,800 miles on my '05 civic.when i called american honda about this - since this is unacceptable - the rep told me to take the car to a honda dealership for evaluation.i explained to her that you don't simply take a car with a dead alternator from place to place - towing would have to be arranged and i wasn't paying for another tow job. $520 later and had to have the battery replaced too.

I would drive on the freeway and my temperature gauge would fluctuate and return to normal. I investigated the matter online and found other owners of the same car had the same problems with the thermostat needing to be replaced so i intended to buy a new one. Then when i would hit bumps in the road my electronics would malfunction. The radio (not cd) would turn off. I would have to turn in back on. Then on 10/23/2011 i merged onto the freeway traveling at approximately 45 mph and accelerating normally. There was traffic so i could not accelerate very fast. That is when my electrical components began to completely fail. The dash alarms would blink on and off, my check engine light never came on. The car jerked forward a few times. I felt clicking in the peddles and steering column. At once all the electrical and engine shut off. I had no gauges, no electrical, and no power of any kind. That's when i pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway. I noticed smoke rising from the hood. Then it grew into a fire. I immediately tried to escape the cabin of the car. I couldn't exit from the driver side because of traffic. I climbed over to the passenger side. At this time the fire had engulfed the engine area and was coming into the cabin. I exited the passenger side door and ran from the vehicle as it was burning. The entire car became engulfed with fire. Nothing was left of it when the fire department came. It was completely consumed by the fire. I'm really at a loss as to why it would do this? i took really good care of my car. I have papers that prove i just recently had the necessary maintenance on it. This never should have happened.

Fire in seat belt wiring under the passenger seat.the seat, floor and passenger door caught on fire.the fireman said it was electrical and american honda is taking no blame.stated there is no voltage in the wires unless the air bag is deployed.

09/29/07we were awaken last night by the fire department because our '05 honda civic's engine bay was on fire. We are trying to find out if this is a defect or not. The fire department told us it was not arson. We had not driven the vehicle for a few hours. The car is now totaled. We're waiting on our insurance company to contact us.

Replaced airbag less than a year ago on a recall. The airbag sensor light now remains on. If the airbags were replaced is there not a warranty that would cover the replacement airbag and the sensor that controls it?

It started over heating fixed water pump alternator battery almost everything still over heats then i drove it just fine parked it went back later to drive and it won't start

Vehicle blew a head gasket and over heated.problem became progressively worse, and i have been advised by rick marichetti auto that this problem is common with the honda civic ex 1.7 liter engine, and the source of the problem is a multilayer head gasket that honda uses.this vehicle should be recalled, and honda should be required to install new head gaskets that are not multilayer.in my case, the head gasket created a serious road hazard and it was difficult to find a place to pull over.and the problem happened with little notice at approximately 4300 feet, with snow and freezing cold weather.i had to pay almost $800 to have the vehicle fixed, with no guaranty the problem won't happen again.honda should have recalled the head gaskets a long time ago.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic sedan. The contact stated while driving 65 mph the vehicle stalled with the airbag warning light illuminated.the contact pulled off of the roadway and attempted to activate the hazzard light. The hazzard light was inoperable. The contact opened the hood and the hood latch fractured. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,500.

Yellow warning light on dash.diagnostic reports from autozone indicated misfire codes of 1, 3, 4, and random misfire.radiator fluid started to go down in engine without drawing radiator fluid from the reservoir following a routine changing of the engine belt in june 2020.mechanic failed to refill the radiator reservoir, but mechanic and honda dealership report this would not have caused a head gasket failure.a similar problem occurred when the car had 88,000 miles on it, and a mechanic in silicon valley failed to rehook up the radiator reservoir while working on the srs.after driving 699 miles to portland, or, the car overheated on a city street, was immediately stopped, and towed to a garage.the garage found radiator fluid to be low in the radiator, refilled it, let it idle for two hours, and the car was then driven to seattle, and immediately to the bay area after that.while crossing the california border in the mountains and snow, the head gasket completely failed, and the car was no longer driveable.state patrol gave me a ride to yreka where i purchased a gallon of radiator fluid from baxter auto parts, and limped back to the bay area to have a head gasket done at the college of alameda.the mechanic who did the srs reports the hose not being hooked up would not have caused this problem, and that this car was more prone to head gasket failure.the fact that both head gaskets failed with the reservoir not being hooked up or operable raises a number of questions.i have reported the problem to honda america, but honda says they have no further information, nor has a recall been filed.research suggest that honda civic engines from 2001-2005 have a much higher incidence of head gasket failures, and i am wondering why honda hasn't recalled the head gasket?

Overheating lead to cracked block and eventually complete engine failure. Starting 2006-? there has been a recall on these engines. After looking at many honda civics for sale this seems to be common problem spanningmore years. I believe the recall should be expanded.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving, smoke was seen from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact stopped the vehicle and discovered that the enginehad overheated. The failure was not diagnosed by a mechanic nor was the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The failure mileage was 107,387.

Original oem spark plug cracked and pieces fell into the cylinder.the car had a sever misfire, loss of power and i had to immediately pull off of the road.the honda dealership the car was towed to said the cylinder was damaged and the engine should be replaced.honda of america basically said that the car was out of warranty and that they did not warranty their engines past 3 years 36,000 miles.even though the spark plug was well under it's recommended replacement time, it failed and created a dangerous situation.

I was on my way to school , i had driven about 18 miles from home and heard a scrubbing sound then noticed smoke coming from front of my car. I immediately pulled off the road and turned engine off. A city policeman stopped and told me the name of a wrecker service nearby. The car was towed to a garage where it was put up on a lift . The mechanic noted a piece of metal bulging from the right side of the block looking from under the car and toward the front..there was oil splatters from that area also. The piece of metal came from between the block and the air conditioner. There had to have been a defect in the block for it to break a piece of the block offin this manner. The piece was about 2 inches wide by 4 inches long. We have pictures to show what was found. There were two mechanic witnesses plus a policeman that saw the damage.the car was not running hot nor low in oil. The block just a defect. If i had been on the interstate there could have been a severe accident due to the car coming to a sudden stop.

After driving about 20 miles in warm day from san mateo to san francisco via i-101 then i-280 with a/c on.the vehicle came to a traffic jam on highway exit in sf, the speed was at 30 mph or less and the engine temperature increasedto the highest level and the engine had water boiling sound and radiator fan did not came on after stopped on a city street.then 2nd incident happen on july 25 2015, again driving from san mateo i-101 > 92 > 238 > i-580 to dublin with weather temperature at 90+ with a/c on when the vehicle reach to slow speed at freeway ext ramp.the engine temperature increased to the highest level.once the car stopped at a city street the engine had boiling water sound and radiator fan did not came on. Coolant is full as well as the reserve reservoir .on aug 3 same thing happens after replacing engine thermostat and radiator fan switch.driven from mountain view via i-280 to san carlos with a/c on.the engine temperature raised to the highest level and water boiling sound came from engine.again, coolant is full as well as the reservoir.

I paid $4,200 in a cashiers check 9/12/2018 for a car. Owner told me it had been tested and looked over by his mechanics and that if any problems with the engine or transmission occurred that it was under a guarantee. The following day, 9/13/2018, i heard strange sounds from engine and car frequently jerked forward. Took it to south tacoma honda to inspect vehicle for $143.13. Was told valves need to be adjusted and would cost nearly $500. Went to dealership and the manager named chocolate. Told me to take car to 161 garage to get fixed over weekend.that monday was told they couldn't complete job and to have honda complete job. Chocolate reluctantly agreed to get car to honda to have them adjust the valves and he would pay for it when it was finished. He did not show back up and both myself and the honda service reps had to call him for payment. Worked out payment in the morning if his dealership agreed. Honda rep called dealership asking repeatedly for an owner or manager and never got straight answer. When explaining my situation and inquiring authorization for payment from chocolate, person on phone from the dealership began bad mouthing their own employee saying he was a nobody and admitted they lied about the condition of the car telling the honda rep 'so what.' was able to take car but was told me to return if the payment was not made the next morning. That morning, 9/18/2018, my girlfriend agreed to drive me to work and go back in if honda called. But car died on the freeway nearly causing accident and was hard to brake. We were lucky we had been close to shoulder so i could veer away from cars and off the road. We had to get it off the freeway and have it towed to the honda in renton costing another $15. Then $148.50 inspection fee from honda renton after service reps found major engine issues with cylinder 3 causing the valves to come loose overnight.

K20a3 camshaft lobes have pits/galling on them. They make a loud ticking/tapping noise. Possible decrease in gas mileage, poor performance, and reliability issue.if left unintended could cause further damage to engine. Common problem with the k20a3 engines manufacture defect. Honda should address this.

Coolant keeps leaking. Went online and found numerous other owners reporting the same problem. My mechanic can't seem to fix the problem neither can any of the other owners online mechanics. Replaced the radiator and cap, water pump, head gasket, etc... But it still leaks. Can you please look into this. There are a lot of people online reporting the same problem but there's no bulletin number in your database for the 2005 honda civic cooling system.thank you for your time and have a nice day.

My transmission is slipping and barley shifting into 2nd gear to 3rd it has 95000 miles on it and the transmission is bad all 2000 to 2005 hondas have bad transmission problems but they never recalled it why????? now i had to replace the head gasket because it was blown at 75000 miles thats to early for that to be happening i spent 2000 grand on it already why didn't they recall this????

I have a cracked exhaust manifold, i understand several other people have had the same problem.need to have a recall.

Dt contact stated the indicator lights for the oil, engine, and battery came onthe dashboard. The vehicle had high idle.the vehicle wentinto auto stop in all gears. One could turn right or left and the vehicle will shut off.she contacted the dealer, they did some type of work to the vehicle. The contactwas having the same problem with the vehicle.she contacted the dealer again. The dealer stated vehicledidnot work properly due to driver'serror. Also, she stated the passenger's side air bag indicator light will come on and off. The dealer stated that the diagnostic test did not show that the indicator light cameon. The dealer offeredno assistance at this point.

2005 honda civic ex automatic choke comes on every time you start the car --even if you don't need it.after it comes on, you can't shut it off manually.not only does the choke needlessly come on, but it comes on at an rpm that is too high.it needlessly burns fuel, but also presents a safety problem and causes you to loose control of the car.honda is refusing to fix the problem.the solution is that the choke needs to be modified in three ways:1) manually choke shut off (with handle, accelerator pedal, or button),2) 5th gear doesn't drop rpm sufficiently and car doesn't get good gas mileage,3) vtech engine needs to be made into a vtech-e, so that the engine gets better fuel economy at the slower speeds and meet both the public's and federal mileage expectations.honda offers vtech-e, but they only provide this engine series to those who choose to buy the double overhead cam, such as that found in the civic si or in some accords.the seats in the 2005 honda civic ex are dangerously uncomfortable and poorly designed.honda gives you nothing more than a block of rubber to sit on, which causes skin irritation due to a lack of heat dissipation within 20 minutes of driving.in addition, the front seats are too far forward and someone over 5'9" is going to have difficulty controlling the car -- particularly with a manual transmission.the lack of springs in the front and rear seats potentially causes spinal injuries, due to road shocks not being absorbed, for people that drive the vehicle on a daily basis.a custom upholstery shop advises me they can't unbolt the seats because the airbags will go off because the airbags have distance sensing.not only is this ludicrous, but offers no consumer safety.a quick review of the 2001 honda civic ex with the 2005 honda civic ex se reveals that the 2001 is significantly safer to operate than the 2005 civic .the 2001 civic has four air bags in the front, including side airbags in both doors.

At only 4 years of age, my honda civic hybrid needs a new catalytic converter and in searching the internet, coming across hundreds and hundreds of posts on various web sites, it seems that a lot of people are replacing their honda civic catalytic converters before the car turns 5 years old.this is a very expensive part, over $1200 to replace, so why isn't there a recall on this part. If it is not replaced in cars, i am told that the car emits bad gases in the air. I live in a county where emissions is not part of the inspection, so i want it replaced, but can't afford it and don't have to replace it. With that many going bad, can't there be a recall so these cars do not emit bad gases in the air???

Air conditioner condenser is not protected and the dealer said even smallest pebble can puncture.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving, smoke was seen from under the hood of the vehicle. I have had my 2005 honda civic for less then 5 months and i have already had to replace my a/c condenser once in may 08 and i have to do it again 6/08. It cost me about 500 to 600 dollars to fix this because of a design flaw. This is not my fault i don't drive like a crazy person. This is a flaw in the design and honda should pay for it.

While traveling down the highway i hit a deer head on. The deer destroyed much of my front end but the motor was still going . I applied the brakes and after about 15 seconds the car started to accelerate and couldn't be stopped. Since it was a hybrid it felt like the electric motor kicked in for some strange reason and the car couldn't be stopped. In order to stop the car i put it in to park while it was moving. The car continued to try and accelerate but since it was in park it was just moving slowly to a stop. Although this wasn't deadly for me it could have been if i wasn't on the highway or if i was knocked out. I don't think a car should accelerate for no reason.

I was traveling on a major highway when i noticed the engine revving high.i looked at the shifter and noticed i was in s so i pushed the shifter into drive and the car died right in the fast lane of an extremely busy highway.i looked in the rearview mirror and saw cars just swerving, screeching ,etc.i did get clipped on the right rear, not only was i verylucky, but i was fortunate none of the other vehicles wrecked into each other.i have read both on this link and edmunds of people having problemswith these 2005 honda civic hybrids dying when put into drive.i still need to take it to honda, but i need to take it to the body shopas it isnot exactly drivable.

I was driving my 2005 honda civic home on a saturday nightwhen all of a sudden the car just went dead, i drifted to the shoulder of the road and sat for about 10 minutes, then i tried to start the car it started, about 4 miles down the road and the car went dead again, this happened 4 time in a matter of about 15 miles. I drove the car to the dealership. Monday morning they called and said they could not find anything wrong.

2005 honda civic hybrid: engine light came on and has been determined that the catalytic converter needs replacing along with the co2 sensors, cost $2000.00. What causes a cat conv to go bad?honda could not provide this information and refused to look into any service bulletins or recalls. This vehicle is only 6 years old, 83045 miles.we have had numerous issues with this vehicle, including the clutch, replacement of hybrid battery, seat belts and now this.

Replace cat converter on honda civic hybrid which is very expensive not covered by warranty.

After about 75,000 miles on my 2005 honda civic, i began to notice i got a headache and upset stomach while driving the car.the local honda dealer discovered a cracked exhaust manifold, and indicated the possibility of carbon monoxide entering the cabin during vehicle operation.i have not yet repaired the condition since the repair cost is very high, about $1000.i have since heard that this is a common problem with this vehicle, and not a result of age or abuse.

The need to replace 2 catalytic converter due to an engine light error veh code p2000 cat efficiency.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle makes noise upon cold starts while accelerating.the noise discontinues after the vehicle warms up in the morning.the noise first appeared in november 2005.the vehicle was taken to a dealer twice concerning the problem where the heating shield, w-converter; flexible gasket, pre-chamber converter and catalytic converter were replaced.the vehicle is being returned to the service dealer for a third time concerning the ongoing problem today. Updatd 02/28/06

New 2005 honda civic xl special addition 4-door sedan purchased from honda of fort myers 7-21-05.almost immediately after purchase malfunction light on the dash indicating a problem with the emission control system began to light up.it was on all the time.the manual stated that you should go to the dealer immediately and have it checked if this happens as continued operation may cause serious damage to the vehicle.we had the car in the shop on 4 different occasions 8-20-05, 8-30-05, 12-22-06, 5-9-07.the light would go out for 2-3 days after being worked on in the shop and come back on.this has been an extreme source of frustration and concern.the car has developed an additional symptom of stumbling and losing power when trying to blend into traffic.we have just lived with this thinking "well, what can we do".but i'm convinced that someone, somewhere knows what to do to fix this.i am going to make it my project to work toward that end.thanks for any assistance you may be able to offer.if we could get a factory representative to show up at the dealer to get them to fix it, that would be great.

Unwanted and unintended acceleration occurred while driving honda civic hybrid car on the buckhorn mountain road west of fort collins colorado.the car was only stopped by applying brute force with all my weight to the brakes.fortunately i was able to get the car stopped on one of the few straight stretches on this narrow, gravel road. The engine raced at its highest speed.i was able to get it into park and turned off, before it caught fire. It would not return to normal idle speed, even after i restarted the engine a couple of time. We ended up leaving the car on the road and it was eventually returned to town. The shop was not able to duplicate the situation, but i am worried after reading about the toyota problems which sound similar.the shop has replaced the accelerator cable and floor mats, thinking it might be a similar situation.no one is allowed to drive the car out of town into the mountains.i am concerned because the problem suddenly occurred and could have caused a fatal accident just a few miles further on this road.i currently own and drive a 2005 prius, so i am familiar with driving a hybrid car. The honda is a government car driven by a number of drivers each day.i am not sure of the year, but i can check that out.

A/c stopped working on my 2005 honda civic.brought it to dealership and they said a rock hit condenser and caused the freon to leak.$900 to fix and it is not covered under my extended warranty.

My mom just bought me a 2005 honda civic about 6 weeks. My a/c was not blowing out cold air so it was taken to the honda dealer ship and i found out that a pebble had hit the a/c condenser causing a leak. And its not covered under warranty. It is going to cost me about 700 dollars. Its a design flaw. Iwas researching on line about this happening to anyone else and there are alot. Honda should cover the costof a new a/c condenser because of there design flaw.

The air conditioning(a/c) in the 2005 honda civic vp stopped working. When i went to the honda dealership i was told that the a/c condenser in the car had a pin hole caused by a rock.i was also informed that although the part was covered by warranty itwas voided by the rock.the dealership has quoted the repairs at $813.00. The car was only 2 years old.

The consumer was not satisfied with the service provided by the dealer when he purchased his 2005 honda civic. The dealer was supposed to install a remote start alarm. *sc

The owners manual of the consumer's 2005 honda civic provided incorrect instruction on how to use the vehicle's high beams.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic ex. The contact stated that the low beam headlights would not illuminate. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer and they advised that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

Tag and rear running lights failed 11/28/2012. Rick case honda dealer said the entire rear tail light harness was brittle due to age and required replacement at a cost of $ 228 labor and $186 for the parts. In my mind this main harness is poorly designed for the life time of the vehicle and should have connectors that allow repair for less cost to consumer since tail lights are safety issue and i observe a number of honda civics on the highway with failed or failing tail lights. I think the wiring harness should be higher grade wire due to safety concerns or have connectors added to insure repairs are easy to conduct for the do it yourself repairs or improve the design so failures due not occur with age of the vehicle.

New vehicles turn signals are red in color and seem to have become more difficult to determine the drivers intentions during inclement weather situations.what ever allowed this change from the amber/yellow color of the turn signal to the current red color on newer model vehicles is a wrong decision, in my opinion, on the part of a drivers saftey while operating a motor vehicle.

2005 honda civic lx has problems with fuel efficiency causing vehicle's idle to be low.***no answer required*** . *mr the consumer stated when she was stopped on an incline the vehicle would roll backwards as soon as she let foot off of the brake.the dealer told the consumer that was the way the vehicle was designed.

2005 honda civic hybrid had recall repair done to the fuel injector. After repairs vehicle significantly lowered in gas mileage. The consumer received notification from honda that through a mistake in manufacturing, the vehicle's computer had been programmed with a fuel injector fuel flow rate that caused it to run too lean.after the repairs were made the consumer noticed a 10-15% drop in fuel economy.

Gas cap cover release cable -quit working.had to remove cable at the gas cap cover by way of the trunk.now the cover stays open and won't shut.honda dealership wants $225.00 to fix.there should be a secondary way to open and close the cover that bypasses the cable.the cable should not be the only way to open and close the cover for the gas cap.

Filled fuel tank on my way to work, after driving to work on the freeway could smell fuel, thought it could just be residual on my hands since i just filled up. Went to lunch and smelled fuel again only stronger now, when i backed out of the parking space to return to work i noticed a large wet spot under my car, got out and looked under my car, could see bottom of fuel tank was wet. Drove to work, removed my rear seat to access top of tank, noticed fuel was leaking out of top of fuel pump when the key is turned on, went to honda dealer near my work and purchased a pump, parts associate mentioned they fail regularly, seems to me there should be some sort of recall for a fuel leak that happens regularly.

This car has a defective transmission. Unknown to me, it came that way from the dealer. A couple honda dealerships acknowledged the problem. It first started slipping around 40,000 miles. I had the transmission fluid changed ahead of schedule and the problem went away. This was when they told me of the class action law suit and the recommended fixes. The transmission initially failed at 54,300 miles. Stevens creek honda cleaned the transmission with a special detergent and replaced the fluid. They said if the problem came up again before 109,000 miles they would have to ?burnish? the transmission. What i didn't realize is that the detergent cleaning was a ?band-aid? fix so that the dealership could avoid the more costly fixes they were obligated to perform under the terms of the lawsuit. The car performed normally again. I would have the fluid replaced more that normal during service visits. The transmission failed again at 154,600 miles. Now they don?t want to cover the cost because it is now longer under warranty, or covered by the terms of the class action lawsuit. This is essentially fraud. They did a cheap ineffective cleaning in order to avoid and expensive repair they were supposed to do.i will never buy a honda again??

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact noticed strong fuel fumes in and around the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 07v512000 (fuel system). The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 150,000.

Noticeable gas smell, especially when engine turned off. Diagnosed by independent mechanic. 2" crack on plastic cover of fuel pump module. Repair cost over $400. He indicated that he has had 3 hondas w/ this issue in 2 weeks.this would seem a significant safety issue, especially w/ the placement of this unit under the rear seat. Fortunately no smokers in this car.the smell had been slightly noticeable for about 3-4 weeks but became stronger after a trip w/ longer drive times than daily usage. A 6-10 mpg decrease became obvious at this time as well.

I have a cracked exhaust manifold, i understand several other people have had the same problem.need to have a recall.

Recently i've been smelling gas fumes from under my car every time i have the door open and it seems like it's coming from under the car.but i noticed a few days ago that it's getting worse because i could smell it inside the cabin of my car.last night i have the windows closed and as i opened my door today september the 11th 2020, the odor was so strong fumes of fuel.can't this be one of the reason for a car to get a recall?exposed fuel inside the cabin is dangerous, isn't it?luckily, my air conditioning is not working right now or else i would have my windows rolled up and if i smoke a cigarette, the car might blow up.it seems like it happens to honda a lot because most honda between 2001 to 2005 version seem to be affected by this.especially watching youtube, there's a lot of complaints and they are showing how common this is for honda civic.what does it take for this to be a part being recalled?my concern is that this is dangerous! is this just part of maintenance even it's a dangerous situation?or isn't it a flaw of the parts being use?i'm not mechanically inclined and i don't have the money to fork 300 to 500 dollars to pay the mechanic to repair this, even though i really feel that this should be recalled because i know that it's dangerous.one spark can blow up my car and i happen to be driving with passengers or even just myself.

2005 honda civic dx manual transmission:my car start having a rattling noise from transmission when i release the clutch.i took the car to get it fixed and they told me is the transmission's input shaft bearing(common problem for this model)and it will cost me $1000 to get it fixed.i heard this a honda recall issue.

There was a rattling noise coming from transmission, took to honda certified mechanic and was told it was the throwout bearing and to replace the clutch as preventative maintenance, get a call when they have clutch off and told me its the bearings in the transmission. This is a common problem in this make and model, there are numerous complaints, and videos on youtube of the same problem on honda civics around the same mileage.

They said if the problem came up again before 109,000 miles they would have to 'burnish' the transmission. What i didn't realize is that the detergent cleaning was a 'band-aid' fix so that the dealership could avoid the more costly fixes they were obligated to perform under the terms of the lawsuit. The car performed normally again. I would have the fluid replaced more that normal during service visits. The transmission failed again at 124,700 miles. Now they don't want to cover the cost because it is now longer under warranty, or covered by the terms of the class action lawsuit. This is essentially fraud. They did a cheap ineffective cleaning in order to avoid and expensive repair they were supposed to do.also, when the transmission fails, i have almost gotten in a serious accident on the freeway. This is a very dangerous problem.i will never buy a honda again

Horrible noise coming from my '05 civic lx's manual transmission. Noise has been getting worse; started at 115k miles. I have spoke with a few mechanics and they told me most hondas have a recall for this problem. I called honda customer service at 1800 999 1009 and they didn't wanted to fix it free of charge.

When accelerating quickly from a stop, the car makes a huge grinding noise--heard mostly in the front end.when accelerating slowly, no noise is heard.the car also slips horribly on wet or slippery pavement when accelerating from a stop. I have had the dealer say "this is a normal sound" when it failed when they tested it (i have recorded this in my files at the dealer when it was under warranty) and also when i brought it to an independent garage.they found nothing wrong with any of the front end parts and diagnosed it as an internal problem that they couldn't find or fix.

The car has begun making a loud noise, when in gear, this is a manual transmission car, but whenever i am in drive it makes this loud grinding noise. If i am in neutral no noise at all. And sometimes even in drive is intermittent.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact was driving approximately 70 mph when the vehicle exhibited an abnormally loud noise. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised the contact that the failure was caused by the input shaft bearing, which would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired for the input shaft bearing. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. The vin was unavailable.

Cruise control drops out unexpectedly when traveling at highway speed.

This is a 2005 civic hybrid.a few times the transmission has allowed the engine to increase its rpm's to a "redline" level, then engages and surges forward.this has only happened at highway speed thus far, but could be very dangerous on surface streets.also, i have issue with the wafer thin windshield.i have 3 cracks in it from 18 months of driving from road pebbles.i have 6 other vehicles, they all get driven the same freeways, and get hit by pebbles, but none get the damage as this honda has.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic hybrid.while driving 40 mph, the transmission failed.the contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and remains there to date.the dealer stated that due to the mileage they would not cover the cost of the repair.the contact would be responsible for the cost of the new transmission.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 48,000.updated 06/02/08 the consumer stated the manufacturer refused to take any responsibility for the transmission replacement and even though edmunds.com had a running blog apparently similar transmission failures. Honda recall for judder in cvt on 2005 hybrid.repaired (i believe by burnishing the clutch?); however, condition is recurring, gradually getting worse.i have heard many other complaints of the same problem in other cvts.my sons recently had the same repair done to his.

Our new 2005 honda civic had both front wheels lock while my wife was going to work, driving down the freeway in fort worth tx. The car was totaled, crashing into a guard rail, blowing the air bags, spinning around, starting a fire at the left front wheel and starting my wife's coat on fire as she was getting out. We have an eye witness who has a degree in engineering, photos, a police report and the car itself. The car started to pull to the right by itself and my wife was not able to correct it since the front wheels were in a complete skid. The car had 2113 miles on it and even the police commented that in her twelve years on the force she had never seen anything so strange as this. There are two solid black lines that show where the skid started in the center of the lane ending at the guardrail. Both tires are torn up and melted in one spot. The roads were dry, no traffic, nothing in the road. The transmission just locked up solid, causing a near fatal accident. I contacted the honda corporation @ 800-999-1009 and the dealer bankston honda of lewisville tx @ 866-507-6355. Honda said it was an insurance problem, bankston referred me back to honda. Finally honda said they would come out and take pictures "only" car would not be moved. The day they were to come out and take picture they said "due to safety reasons the car needed to be taken to bankston honda to take pictures, breaking our agreement. We hid the car and are seeking legal means as our insurance is having to payout due to a defect. I have a case at honda #[xxx]. The police report is filed in fort worth tx, loc.05148069and our witness said she would gladly testify what happened. The vehicle vin# is [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I have a 2005 honda civic hybrid. It usually seems to happen at 40 mph and above. The transmission slips (like when you're coming out of the tolls). I had the burnish procedure done last in the fall/winter of last year. Within the last month, the transmission has slipped a better part of 10 times. I took it to the dealership to get it under warranty. They said they can not duplicate the incident. Just this past weekend, between 40 and 60 mph, it slipped 3 times in a row. The next day, at about 68 mph, the rpms stayed at 3000. It's normally around 25-2600 rpm. Again, the mechanic could not duplicate the problem. They told me if i bring the car back again, i will be charged $87 per hour, even though it is under warranty. The transmission slippage has been occurring about 3-5 times a week. Never when i am at the honda dealer. They told me they can only do something if they can see what is happening and told me to bring it back when it is happening consistently.

Ltr fm (tx) re his wife new honda which was totaled in a near fatal accident, the transmission locked up, honda won't assist them or release the title, car was paid for.the vehicle crashed into a guardrail when the transmission locked up and caught on fire.

2005 honda civic hybrid cvt automatic transmission failure at 42,000 miles.car will not shift in any gear.contact honda american representative, and honda will not covered this incident under warranty under any circumstances. $4,500 ~ $5,200 replacement job at local honda dealer. Most horrible car i'd ever own!!!very disappoint with honda. Buyers beware with honda hybrid model.

My 2005 honda civic hybrid started to exhibit transmission judder when i would accelerate from a stop and slippage whenever i accelerated while moving with approximately 65,000 on the odometer (my car was still under warranty at this time). I took it into the dealer i bought the car from and they changed the transmission fluid and performed no additional work to the transmission. I started to have the same issues at 90,000 miles and did not have time to take the car back to the dealer but made them aware of my car's problem. My warranty has expired since then but i have learned there is a service bulletin issued for my model and year car. Honda offered an extended warranty for this problem up to 105,000 miles. Problem is that i now have 114,000 miles on my car and they will not fix it. I feel the problem should have been corrected when it first started exhibiting signs of transmission problems at 65,000 miles. The dealer has told me they can change the transmission fluid but they said the problem is likely to occur again. I have a problem with a car company that knows their product is defective and has even issued a service bulletin addressing this problem but will not fix my car, especially when it started having problems and was still under warranty at 65,000 miles.

While accelerating moderately, often while trying to pass another vehicle on the freeway or even while trying to maintain speed up a hill, our 2005 honda civic hybrid would slip out of gear and the engine would suddenly rev up to redline rpm (it is an automatic transmission).the service technician could not reproduce this event.after a few months, this started happening quite often -- every day in predictable locations on our driving route. In addition, a judder developed when starting from a stop.this latter issue was identified by honda and a technical bulletin was put out.the judder made the car nearly undrivable, so we again took the car in.the transmission fluid was replaced and the clutch plates were burnished.the tranmission slippage and engine revving disappeared.now, 5 months later, the transmission slip with engine revving has returned as well as the judder starting again.we purchased an extended warranty, so the cost has not been an issue so far, however our warranty expires in june 2010.we are mainly concerned with the repeated appearance of the problems, especially that the transmission slip/engine revving can be a safety issue when trying to accelerate on an on-ramp or pass a car on a two-lane road.if the engine slips out of gear while passing a car, it may have tragic results.

Automatic transmission had deficienciestransmission replaced.

While i was driving on the street, the axle/spindle to the right front wheel/tire of my vehicle broke.therefore i lost control of the vehicle and i hit two packed vehicles.

My daughter was driving her standard new honda civic 2005 home from the dealer on may 9th.she had 60 miles on the car and was cruising in 4th speed at 45 miles an hour on i5 south in the seattle area when the car came instantly to almost a complete halt causing an intense jerking of the car.she was able to shift to neutral and coast to the shoulder with what minimum momentum she had left.as there was no impact the air bags did not deploy which most likely intensified the nature of her injury.currently her radiology report states she has a fracture of the t-11 vertebrae and to date she is unable to sit, therefore drive, work, or finish her college program.honda has diagnosed the clutch as destroyed and says that she must have intentionally downshifted from 5th to 1st gear while traveling at 45 mph and destroyed the clutch herself.therefore they are taking no responsibility for the vehicle.my husband and i are currently trying to decide whether to have the clutch replaced or just have the transmission put back in and either way tow to car to my daughter's condo and wait out our next move.honda is charging us $500.00 just to put the car back together and the tow will be over $200.00 but if we leave it at the dealer it is $50.00 per day.our service engineer has the destroyed clutch stored in evidence.these 2 young people will never drive the car again even if the car is repaired.she didn't shift at all at the time of the incident and could have easily been impacted and injured even more.so we have a new car no one will drive and so far 2 attorney's have refused to take the case.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic.in an attempt to drive the vehicle, the contact placed his key into the ignition and started the vehicle, but it would not shift into gear.the vehicle was towed to a dealer and they stated that the clutch and sink rolls failed.the clutch and the sink rolls were replaced.approximately one month later, while driving 60 mph in fifth gear, the vehicle slipped into neutral four times.the dealer then replaced the manual transmission.the current mileage was 85,560 and failure mileage was 83,813.

My transmission locked while i was driving. I'm not sure what exactly happened. I was in the middle of the street. The transmission/engine was running but the car wouldn't move. When i tried to move the gear to park it made an awful whining noise. It wouldn't allow me to. Had to call the police, who stood by moving traffic until a tow truck came.

Since buying my vehicle on numerous occasions when putting the vehicle into neutral the car will stall. When putting the car back into gear it won't start up again until i put the car back into neutral take my foot off the clutch and then put it back into gear again.since the 3rd day of owning the car this has happened . The dealership checked the battery terminals but it continued. Does this whether it's raining or not. After several trips to the dealer the mechanic put my car on the diagnostic machine and called the code numbers in to the company who told them what else to do but it started doing this again not too long after.usually, the dealer tells me they're not able to get the car to do it for them so they don't know what else to do.

Reverse in a honda civic manual transmission.the problem is engaging reverse in a manual transmission.when i need to reverse i move the transmission into reverse and release the clutch.a grinding noise occurs and the grinding noise gets louder if i give it more gas while the clutch is not engaged.it takes me a while to try and get reverse engaged and it is very annoying and dangerous.i am having problems everyday with this and i just had it in for a service and asked the dealer to take a look at it.the dealer looked into the problem and said that this is common in every honda civic transmission.reverse does not have a synchronized gear and i will have to live with it.there is nothing they can do about it.even if they replaced my entire transmission, the problem will still exist.i even got a service tech to drive my car and he experienced the same problem.he said he had a civic and it does the same thing.the dealer said when the problem occurs (for me just about everytime i need reverse) i need to put the shifter into first or second gear and then try reverse.if it doesn't work, then i have to try it again.sometimes i find myself in tight situations and am not able to get the transmission into reverse for 30 seconds or more.this can be very dangerous and annoying.honda needs to take a look at this if every honda civic transmission is like this.this is not acceptable and can be very dangerous.if i knew honda civics were like this, i would have never bought one.

I have noticed that when shifting my car from 1st to 2nd gear, it grinds going into gear.this usually occurs when the rpms of the engine are above 4k.i haven't taken the car into the dealer because of it yet, but plan to soon.

The car giving weird sound and well as sometimes it's showing the airbag indicator even after recall so please help

Seatbelt washer was incorrectly installed.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. Updated 06/17/14 ma updated 8/23/2017

"takata recall" reports and vehicle safety test reports are un-satisfactory with the 2005 honda civic. I have requested fucco honda to resolve an airbag warning light on my dashboard, and fucco honda has failed to repair my vehicle after service appointments and safety inspections.

My mother's 2005 honda civic airbag warning light came on and stayed on,she took it to a mechanic she trust and he said that it was probably the seatbelt tensioner but to be sure he hooked the car to the computer and sure enough it was. He said that he sees a lot of hondas with problems with the seatbelt that cause the warning light to come on and was wonder why there wasn't a recall on this problem. The fix cost my mom about $600.00 between the computer dignostic , labor and parts. He car only has 27000 miles on it and hasn't been in any accidents. She is 84 years old. I went online to look up this problem and there are a number of people that have this problem in fact the lady i work with has this problem with her honda crv that's about the same year as my mother's civic..just wonder if anything is being done?thank you for your time.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic.the contact stated that the driver's side seat belt indicator remains illuminated, even when the seat belt is locked in place.the failure occurs frequently.the current and failure mileages were 104,000.

The driver's seat of my 2005 honda civic hatchback moved forward and rocked within 1 year of buying it new. The dealer kept saying the movement was normal. Eventually, the bushings were replaced and the fittings tightened and this reduced some of the movement. The back of the seat still moves forward when coming to a gentle stop.

The front seats in my 2005 honda civic lx coupe rock constantly.the driver's seat fails more often than the passenger seat.they both rock diagonally - back left to front right.about every 10,000 - 15,000 miles, i need to take my car to the dealership to have them "fix" this problem.they usually replace some bushings in the seat base, which helps for about 10-15,000 miles, and then they start rocking again.nothing out of the ordinary is done to cause this problem.i drive my car normally, don't flop down in the seat, and don't do anything that should cause this problem.i included the date that this incident first occurred.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. While driving approximately 30 mph the drivers side seat rolled backwards and the contact could not reach the brake pedal. The contact stated that the sliding mechanism on the right side of the drivers seat does not lock in place. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

I use to have to push the button in on the gear shift to get it to go into gear.now you can just freely push it back and forth.

2005 honda civic hybrid: about once a day during my commute, i hit a bump or pothole while braking, and the brakes get very weak for a second until i apply more pedal pressure. This is a problem probably very similar to the recent toyota prius braking problem. The generator stops providing braking force when the vehicle hits a pothole.

Momentary loss of braking capability while traveling over an uneven road surface, pot hole or bump.*tw

1)since i bought the car in 2005 (new), periodically the anti-lock brake system kicks in for no apparent reason (while i am braking, of course). 2)under the above situation, as well as at other times when the antilock brakes kick in, i cannot get the abs to disengage no matter what i do, until the car has reached a complete stop. 3)intermittently, the antilock brake system, when it kicks in, the car will take an exceedingly long, very very exceedingly long time to stop.very exceeding long.at almost all these times, i was already going very slowly toward a stop sign, stoplight or approaching an intersection to turn.it seems that the wheels lock up and the car just slides.as a result of #3, i have run innumerable stop signs, a few stop lights, the other night i almost hit a car head on, missed the turnoff to my street by almost 200 feet, missed my driveway by about 100 feet.this was on snowy, wet slushy roads.but, i will tell you when approaching the intersections and turns, i could not have been going slower without being at almost a dead standstill.it is very fortunate that in each case there was no accident.but, the dealership tells me that is the way the abs system works, there is nothing wrong with it and nevertheless they cannot reproduce the problem.has anyone else reported this problem?i have contacted honda corporation, checked for bulletins, etc. And i find nothing.i do not believe antilock brakes are supposed to work like this.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 honda civic hybrid. The contact stated as he is coming to a stop and step onhis brakes or hit a bump he loses his brakes it felt as if there is no brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and contact was told this is normal. Last august 2009, i experienced brake failure 3 times while driving my 2005 honda civic.the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and there was no braking.i had the vehicle towed to honda dealer where i bought it from and they adjusted the brakes and documented it was repaired.the brakes failed again two days later and this time, they could not find the problem.the advised me in writing to continue driving it until it happened again and to bring it back.the car is still under warranty and i hassled with them and the national american honda corporation customer service and got no satisfaction, no repair.in the dealer's service department documentation they tried to claim that my brake shoes were worn out, but that was not true as they had been installed just one month before and subsequently when independent mechanics looked at them, they told me the brake shoes and rotors were fine.independent mechanics advised me to get the master brake cylinder changed.for 3 months i did not drive the car, i documented the problem in detail and tried to persuade honda to fix it.their flat out refusal by denying there was a problem (i had the car towed 3 times to the dealer after each episode of brake failure) was extremely frustrating.finally, in october 2009, i had the car towed to another garage and they replaced the master cylinder.the brakes have not failed since, but while stopped at a light the other day, it seemed that the pedal was once again slowly creeping toward the floor.this is how the problem had started so i'm wondering if it truly has been fixed.i have much documentation of the above events.the news of the recall that just occurred with honda vehicles having "soft brakes" matched exactly the description of my problem with subsequent brake failure, so that grabbed my attention.i did not know your website existed until i read the news reports about that recall and so i am very interested in reporting my problem.thanks so much!

2005 honda civic hybrid, when braking tires squeal like they are skidding.this has happened 3 or 4 times, usually after driving for more than afew hours. I try to apply the brakes on a regular stopping event, just even gently application to the pedal, and the front wheels make an audible skidding sound.

2005 honda civic. Consumer states problem with brake master cylinder *tgwthe consumer was informed it was common with his model vehicle.

2005 honda civic several failures.the consumer stated the master cylinder failed suddenly and the front suspension collapsed.he stated the ball bearing cage could not be lubricated. Without lubrication, the ball bearings can grind themselves into dust. The aluminum knuckles fractured because the wheels were not supported.

Vehicle surged forward without depressing the accelerator. The consumer took vehicle to the dealer for an inspection . The dealer found that the brake and accelerator pedals were too close together.

2005 honda civic with hard to control on a steep hill.consumer states that when the vehicle was taken to the dealer for this problem no problem was found.the consumer stated when going down a stiff hill, he tapped the brake and the vehicle went left to right.

Car stopped steering well; high pitched continuous whine; mechanic diagnosed power steering pump failure; pump needed replacement.

Honda is refusing to fix the clear coat issue on the 05 civics.it starts off as a light area usually on the roof of the car and then spreads.the clear coat is now gone from almost half of the roof and has started on the trunk lid and doors of the car.customer service told me that after 10 years they expect all cars should be repainted and that it was my job to have that done.since this problem started 3-4 years ago and i have tried all i could to stop it and correct the issue i'm pretty sure the fault lies with honda and the paint/clear they used.after being told that they only expect their paint to last 10 years they have lost a customer.

Clear coat is peeling off my 2005 honda civic at an accelerated rate since last year. The resulting pattern is distracting (and embarrassing) to myself and other drivers.

Water is leaking into front driver's side of car (onto floor, carpet).wolchase honda did not find problem but told me it was windshield.i purchased a new windshield at auto glass place but still had water from rain running into my car.the glass technician actually found leak after returning, roof of car not welded to body of car correctly leaving hold where water is running directly into car on left driver's side from roof. There is strip of rubber on each side of top of car (under that water runs directly down in car from hole inmetal on top of roof on left side not sealed or welded). Tech. Did water & air test, not windshield. Wolfchase honda had me wasting money on new windshield when that was not the problem. Dealer refused to even look at car even after i told them the problem was found how water was getting into car.service mgr. Do not want to deal with issue because he says older car & out of warranty. Trunk also leaks rain (rust in trunk & other places on car.

Rain beginning 2/1/14 for 4 days (1 day 3 inches of rain) rain ran into car on left driver's side floor board soaking carpet & mats.went to several repair shops but they did not handle water leaks, went to wolfchase honda where i purchased car sept 2005 supposedly new vehicle on wed 2/5/14.after 2 days saidit was front windshield & it needed to be resealed .i purchased new windshield 2/17/14 after current one cracked when trying to reseal after removing at auto windshield co.rain still ran into car after freezing ice, rain, sleet & snow several days & nights 2/22/14 to 2/25/14.took car back to wolfchase honda but service mgr. The air bagwhite has been on for so long and i didn't know there was a recall i sideswiped a car it was not my fault the other night and the airbag didn't deploy and i bumped my head

The hood latch has broken through normal use.the bottom piece that secures to the frame of the car broke at the screws that secure it.is this something that is covered through a safety issue or warranty?i can't attach a picture or documentation, because currently my hood is being held down by straps on the inside.i had noticed the hood lifting up while driving and discovered the problem after opening the hood.

Trunk lid latch malfunction.lid does not close all the way causing it to open when seats & windows are down driving on the highway.the nylon inside the latch has worked it's way out causing the latch to bind and not close properly, thus making the trunk not actually locked.is a security risk and also a safety hazard to others on the road.if you had a lot of belongings in the trunk they would be scattered all over the highway.

The clear coat is peeling all over the body of the vehicle.it started about 2 years and a half ago.i know this vehicle had a recall for this in the 2006 model and think it should be extended.

I've been noticing that the paint on my car is slowly peeling off of my hood, roof and trunk. The hood is the worst. Is there any way that this can be fixed? this is not normal wear and tear.

I was sitting in stopped construction traffic on 52 north at the martin luther king jr. Exit when the concreat was slung over the divider wall where the construction was being done and it splattered on my car hitting the hood, wind shield, top of car and the sides.

Honda civic paint is peeling, fading, coming off to bare metal. Two body shops have told me not enough clearcoat on initial painting of vehicle.

I was heading home on 4/30/2017 approx 2 mins away when my car was cut off from another suv cut infront of me.she misjudged the distance and my car immediately crashed into her car. I was going about 45 mph maybe a little more. After the crash my car had completely stopped and the driver side air bag did not deflate all the way.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact stated that water was leaking onto the driver's side floorboard area. Also, the contact mentioned that water was leaking into the trunk. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure but stated that the water could have been seeping in through the windshield. The windshield was replaced but failed to correct the failure.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 166,000 and the current mileage was 169,000.

Paint is peeling from the body of the car at the doors and paint clear coat is disappearing.

Paint is peeling from the roof...honda american said no help cause of the age....but only 38k and garage kept it should never peel no matter what age and excellent conditon of the vehicle

Paint is peeling away on the car for no apparent reason.i have seen multiple honda's with same issue.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact stated that the rear passengers side door failed to open from outside and inside. In addition, the rear drivers side door later failed to open from the interiors and exterior. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 50 mph, i noticed a medium sized puddle ahead - in my exit lane.i slowed down to approximately 30 mph, but had no choice other than to go through the puddle.upon doing so, the front portion of the plastic cover that goes across the bottom underside of the car became unhooked and began dragging on the ground.i took the car to the nearest dealer.they placed the car up on the rack and showed me the underside of the car - the plastic piece had cracked and broken away from the clips that hold it into place.the dealer refused to issue a warranty repair on this part, stating that it was due to my negligence.when i asked them what i had done that was negligent they pointed me to the scrapes and scratches on the plastic and said that i had obviously driven over things (curbs/speed bumps/etc) that were too tall for my vehicle to clear.this is not the case - it seems to me more like a case of cheap plastic not being able to withstand driving through a puddle!when i explained to them that the scratches came from driving from the puddle to the dealership, they had no reply other than to tell me that i could order a part and pay for service/labor.i declined, and currently have the bottom rigged on with industrial zip ties, as i pay enough for the car to begin with.

My honda civic began to shake while driving at any speed higher than 35mph, the rear tires are bald. The mechanic i took it to said the wheels could not hold the alignment and suggested adding a part to hold the tires in alignment and to allow for tightening of the alignment.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, he heard a loud noise from the front driver side wheel. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was informed that water in the wheel bearing caused the wheel to break. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

I was driving to taco bell to get some late night food. Well i get through the light that leads into the parking lot...(i've had some squeaking coming from my front end early in the am and once its really warmed up b.t.w.). So, i get through and going about 15 mph a squeak then a kind of pop and next thing i know im pulled into the curb, hop it, and take out a bush. I was so mad! my car has 4600 miles on it! so i back it off the curb and pull it over. There was bad curb damage on the wheel and my wheel is very. Looked like very positive camber. Not to mention the nice scratches and green marks the bush gave to my bumper. Ugh!!! i love my brand new car so much! i wash it twice a week and wax once every 2-3 weeks. Always checking fluids, always taking good care of it. I just don't understand....well i had it towed to the dealership, figuring this would all be taken care of considering this vehicle is under warrant and not even due for the first oil change yet. Well, i get the call back from them telling me they do not know what caused the parts to break or come loose. They didn't know if it was from me hitting the curb after or not. To me, since they didn't know, this should be replaced. My concern on top of the $1,500 this is costing me out of pocket to fix, is what if this happened on the freeway??? going 65 mph, that would have sent me into the median and possibly caused death. I am a full time student in college working 2 jobs so i can pay for this not even four month old $20,000 car. I am outraged that honda did not take care of me with this. Is this wrong? i am seeking all of the assistance i can get and possible legal action. Thank you, ~[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Paint is peeling on the top, doors, hood, and trunk. Also, large areas of the clear coat are degrading. The paint peels down to the primer. I don't see any rust, but it is only a matter of time before it starts without paint to protect it.

It started over heating fixed water pump alternator battery almost everything still over heats then i drove it just fine parked it went back later to drive and it won't start

Driving the light on d start flashing the car wouldnt move so i put it in 2 it barely move i took it to the mechanic now they are telling me i need a shift sutherline a and nobofy in jamaica has it now im out of a car

Key does not work in driver's side door lock.i have researched this problem, and it showed many complaints about this same problem.the car was stationary, parked.

I have been trying to get my airbags replaced many times at different honda dealerships but everyone keeps telling me that they don't have the parts or they will call me back whenever they can help me. I can't even use my car with my family because everyone is scared to ride in the front seat. I can only drive it alone. This has become a real hassle.

Accelerator sticking problem - like to say the first 6 months after buying a new 2005 honda civic the exact same thing happened numerous times. Problem then seemed to resolve itself. Applying the brake had no effect. The consumer managed to guide the vehicle into the spot, avoiding both a redwood tree to the left and a rock pond to the right, as the vehicle continued to accelerate beyond the end parking spot, by landing on top of a boulder and running into a chain link fence, in which the vehicle slowed down and the wheels were spinning.the front end of the vehicle was lifted off the ground by the boulder. In light of the current issues with toyota, i thought i should report to you a similar problem i was having with my 2005 honda civic hybrid (i no longer have the vehicle).i reported this to the dealer when i took it in for repairs, but did not receive a satisfactory response to my complaint.this was not just one event, it happened often.date given below is just a random date from the time i owned the vehicle.whenever i approached a stopping point, be it a stop light, stop sign, or parking spot, while having the brakes applied, if i hit a bump in the road, such as a pothole or low traffic light sensor, the car would suddenly get a burst of acceleration.it would respond to my added brake pressure, but always left me with an eerie feeling.the dealerships response was that it was the abs taking control.nothing was done about it.since i no longer have the vehicle, i do not readily have the vin #.if it becomes essential, i sure it is probably in the files i have in storage and can dig it up for you.

Unintended acceleration has occured 3 times. Put foot on brake to slow down and car accelerator starts racing. Move gear shift to neutral. Accelerator then disengages back to normal.2005 honda civic lx with approx 5000 miles.no correction to date

I was driving on the freeway approaching some traffic, slowing from about 60mph to a stop. As i was slowing down, i noticed that my engine rpm was staying relatively constant (vehicle was not downshifting), i could hear the engine revving, and the brakes seemed less effective at slowing my vehicle. It essentially felt as though i had cruise control on, but it wasn't cancelled by applying the brakes. I was able to slow down enough to not hit traffic stopped in front of me, but had to quickly switch to neutral to stop completely. When i shifted into neutral, the engine rpms jumped up before dropping back down after a few seconds. I put it back into drive to move off to the shoulder of the road and the car seemed to operate normally. After shutting my car off, checking the foot well for obvious issues with the brake/accelerator pedals, and waiting a few minutes, i put it back into drive. Everything seemed to function as usual, so i reentered the freeway cautiously. About a quarter mile later, after getting up to the speed of traffic (about 50 mph), i noticed the same issue: the car maintained a constant speed even when my foot was off of the accelerator. I pressed the brake to slow back down and get to the shoulder, but the engine kept trying to accelerate. I put it into neutral, the rpm spiked before slowing back down to idle. The car idles fine, and the issue isn't very apparent at lower speeds.i know for a fact that my floor mats were not on top of the accelerator pedal, there were no other items in the foot well which may have interfered with either pedal, and my foot was not hitting both pedals while trying to brake.

2005 honda civic - unexpected acceleration on at least four occasions during the 8 or 9 months that i owned it. Mileage was only 40,000 miles. Dealer said i was stepping on the accelerator instead of the brake but, in 60 years of driving, this has never happened before. I sold it back to the dealer (at a substantial loss) because i didn't want to risk my family. My replacement car, chevrolet hhr, does not have this problem. The district manager for honda has informed my st. Louis dealer that this is not a problem but, according to the internet, it was through 2004.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic. While entering a parking area, the vehicle unintendly accelerated with the brake pedal depressed. The contact crashed into a parked, unoccupied vehicle. The contact did not suffer any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where a failure code was located at the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 27,000.

I purchased a 2005 honda civic on 5-31-05.i have experienced 3 incidences of sudden acceleration from july 2nd through aug 29.each time, i was driving on the road and all of a sudden the vehicle accelerated.i was not able to stop it by applying the brakes.i had to turn off the engine.i took it to the dealer, but they cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle.consequently, i do not feel safe driving this car.

Immediately after i purchased my 2005 civic hybrid, i noticed that my car would speed up suddenly whenever i drove over an unsmooth surface, such as over a manhole cover. At first i dismissed it thinking it was a fluke, but it has occurred regularly since then. I have told my honda dealer's services team numerous times and they have looked into it but not able to replicate it (i notice it occuring 1-2x/mo). The most they could conjecture is that the computer located in the wheel miscalculates when one of the tires moves over an uneven surface and then recalculates it when both tires are on the same surface again. I do not know if this is true, but i have been able to always re-apply the brakes immediately in order to prevent an accident from happening (i have come close several times). I actually wrote to honda many years ago about this problem, asking them to address it because it is a safety hazard. I am thankful that the nhtsa may be investigating this now because it appears i am not the only one with this issue. I bought a new honda civic ex at/2d on 1/31/05.up to today it has only 22k.in june 07, the battery died. (with less than 15k miles).in janurary 08, the wheel bearing failed.the dealer replaced it.in february 08, the brake started making noise.i had to take the car to the dealer one time after another.the third time was in april 08:the dealer had to replace the brake pad --- with about 21k miles, they did not expect the pad wore out.all i hoped is honda can offer me an extended warranty, in case something else happened as the car gets to 25k miles.but they would not do it.they gave me a case number, saying i can refer to it if the same problems happen again.i wish i can have at least an extended warranty from honda: since obviously this car is with a poor quality.

The speedometer was registering at 120 mph, when the consumer was actually driving slower.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic hybrid. While driving at approximate speeds of 25 mph on icy road conditions, the contact depressed the brake pedal and attempted to make a turn into a driveway. The vehicle did not decrease in speed and suddenly began to accelerate without warning. The contact decided to continue driving forward with her foot depressing the brake pedal.later, the contact shifted into neutral gear and was able to bring the vehicle to a stop. The rpms continued to increase and she began tapping the pedal until the rpms decreased. The dealer confirmed that there were no failures within the throttle system. The failure has not recurred. The failure mileage was 5,662 and the current mileage is 30,000. Updated 5/24/10 updated 07/07/10.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle suddenly lurched forward and the engine revved.in order to keep the vehicle under control, it was placed in park.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the dealer could not duplicate the problem.

2005 honda civic hybrid accelerates when brake is suddenly engaged.

First of all i am from canada...i said i was from washington state because that is the closest state to where i'm from...while driving my car on a very busy city street my 2005 honda civic suddenly began accelerating with out cause...when i applied the brakes they did not work...in fact, the car seemed to accelerate even more...i the put the car into neutral at which point the brakes did take somewhat...the car then continued to roll down a very busy city street people on foot were crossing the street about 1/2 a block in front of my car and it is only by the grace of god that i did not hit them...then i put the car in park and it came to a stop....i had my daughter in the car with me and i am grateful that no one was killed...my feeling is that i don't want to ever get back in that car again.....

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic.while stopped behind another vehicle, the contacts vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into the preceding vehicle.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure.the dealer stated that it was normal for the vehicle to perform in that manner.the contacts insurance company did not investigate the failure, but they repaired the front bumper.the contact suffered back injuries.he was surprised when he received a recall letter in january of 2008 for the replacement of the clutch judder.a second recall letter was received for the transmission causing the vehicle to lunge forward.the manufacturer stated that the crash in 2006 was not related to the recalls, and was the contacts fault.the powertrain, speed, and recall numbers were unknown.the current mileage was 37,000 and failure mileage was 17,946.updated 4/2/08 updated 04/02/08

Defective sun visors on 2005 honda civic.replaced 3 visors, but each continues to break and dangle dangerously in front of driver's face.

I was driving down the interstate (approx. 70 mph) when i heard what sounded like an explosion.my immediate reaction was to duck.i looked over my right shoulder and saw my backseat window crumbling...then it began circulating through the interior of the car.the entire window was destroyed.once i pulled over, i called the police.he examined the car and did not find evidence of a gunshot, rock or any other projectile.

The contact owns a 2005 honda civic.while driving, the sun visors would fall down sporadically and obstruct the contact's visibility.a professional mechanic stated that the plastic and screws in the sun visors were defective.the components were not replaced because the parts were on back order.the contact tightened the screws as a temporary repair.several months later, while driving 35 mph, the sun visors dropped down again without warning and caused the contact to rear end another vehicle.a police report was filed.the manufacturer has not been notified.the failure mileage was 33,000 and current mileage was 34,000. Dt*: the contact stated that when engaging the defrost; the a/c system turns on causing a condensation on the winshield which obscurs visility.

The hvac (air conditioning / heating system / defroster) immediately started spewing toxic mold / mildew spors on a new vehicle test drive at the dealer.it occurs while driving, after running the air conditioning for a few minutes, turning the air conditioning off (while leaving the fan running) and waiting a few minutes.it then stinks for a few minutes and then disappears.this occurs every time this cycle is used with the air conditioning and defroster.this occurred in two almost identical vehicles (honda civic with different trim levels) with less than 80 miles on them.when i asked the salesman and service advisor about it, they said that they never heard of such a thing.they said it was probably the new car smell.i had a friend concur that it was definitely a toxic mildew odor and that it would need to be treated probably every few weeks for the life of the vehicle.this is not acceptable as it may cause serious health problems and is not considered safe to drive and dangerous if it can adversely affect the health of the occupants.this problem also affects the acura rsx which uses similar components.this problem does not occur while test driving and renting many other cars for many weeks (e.g. - 2005 toyota corolla for 2 days, 2005 subaru outback for 6 days, 2005 ford mustang for 2 days, etc).

Dt*: the contact stated there is a reflection coming from the rear window of the vehicle that obstructs the driver's view.the dealership and the manufacturer inspected the vehicle and determined there was not a defect.

Dt: the contact owns a 2005 honda civic. The windshield was not sealed at the time that the contact purchased the vehicle. The vehicle was purchased new from a honda dealership. He waswaitingfor a call back from the manufacturer about the problem. First noticed that thewindshield was not sealed on july 12, 2005. He could hear wind blowing through the car , and on the service invoice from a local dealership , it stated that the windshield was not sealed.

My honda civic began to shake while driving at any speed higher than 35mph, the rear tires are bald. The mechanic i took it to said the wheels could not hold the alignment and suggested adding a part to hold the tires in alignment and to allow for tightening of the alignment.

While i was driving on the street, the axle/spindle to the right front wheel/tire of my vehicle broke.therefore i lost control of the vehicle and i hit two packed vehicles.

2 of the 4 driver side front wheel studs snapped off.car shakes and feels like you are going to loose control
