The air bag deployment system on our 2004 honda civic hybrid has shut down. The mechanic at our dealership, open road honda in edison, nj, says it'll cost $825 to replace the computer sensor system which controls the bags. Our car is 5 years old and has about 101,000 miles on it. It has been well maintained, mostly by the dealership, and still runs more or less like new. The manual says the srs system is supposed to be maintenance-free. Naturally the car is past warranty. Is it normal and expected for air bag systems to break down for no apparent reason, at this point in the car's existence? is there something wrong with 2004 civics which might have caused this malfunction? has there been a recall we may not be aware of regarding this part? have other civic owners reported the same or similar problems. And of course do we have any rights to get the part repaired at no or at a lower cost than what we were quoted?

May 14, 2007, purchased from local dealership as "certified" w/ 150 point inspection to include srs airbags; however, a week after purchase; dashboard airbag icon illuminated; called service department and was told "airbag will not deploy. After leaving the service department june 23, airbag icon was back on within a week; at that point my investigation/research began regarding this vehicle; and discovered others had same exact experience with the vehicle.

Takata recall.i received the recall notice from honda for takata air bags. . the first time i got the notice i called and wasn't able to get an appointment for months. Now i get a second notice asking me to fix this problem and to call 1-844-758-9245. I have been calling this number for two weeks and all i get are busy signals. I try in the morning and afternoon. I have tried monday - thursday last week and nothing but busy.hmm looks like honda doesn't want to fix these cars.

When i stoped at a stop sign, my airbag deployed, knocking me unconscious. I proceeded to hit a tree going at an accelerated speed. I was airlifted by helicopter to a trama hospital. I had 3 fractured ribs, a broken sternum, and 4 broken bones in my lower back. I freceived a call back on the passenger side airbag. This accident was because of fraud from takata, and honda. My car should've been recalled.

My airbag/seat belt light stays on constantly

On july 12, 2014 my husband (driver) and myself (passenger) were involved in a head on crash with my 2004 honda civic.traveling at approx. 35 mph we hit a parked dodge ram truck head on.my husband suffered six fractured ribs.i had a black left eye, a severe concussion, a subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleed on the top of my brain), my top front teeth were embedded in my top lip and had a complicated vertical top lip laceration requiring stitches. Due to damage of my top lip i no longer have feeling at the location of the laceration or where my teeth were embedded in my top lip and was told i will not get it back.due to the laceration i have a vertical scar from above center of my lip that goes to the inside of my lip.a couple months after our accident the airbag recall came out. We looked at photos of the inside of my honda.up until this time we could not figure out where my head/facial injuries came from.looking at the photos you can see the airbag exploded.thus it cut my face and caused me to go into the dashboard after exploding causing the severe concussion and subarachnoid hemorrhage.had the airbag stay inflated as it should i would of not suffered the head/facial injuries.some of which will now have the rest of my life....updated 01/06/15

Informed by dealership on routine maintenance that our car is under a recall this was in early september of 2014 and of today's date(10/26/14) have not received any information and when contacting dealership they reply that they are waiting on honda. Can i drive my car safely. Who is criminally responsible.

Awhile back i got a recall notice for my 2004 honda civic vin# [xxx] and i took it to honda dealership in homosassa florida but i don't think they properly fixed the recall because the airbag light is still on. When i complained about it the lady told me that's my responsibility not theirs.i wonder if they ever actually fixed the airbag recall. I have no idea the exact date. May have been 2014 or 2015.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

They sent me a letter on the my name my mothers me which is i return the letter and say my mother is not the owner of my honda vivo 2004 when i call the honda dealer to make sure and go over and get fixed, they say they already fixed it in 2015 .so i want to know what happen with the new recall letter that you guys sent me under my mothers name .

I have received many recall notices from honda stating the air bag recall repair is free and a free rental car will provided for the day of the repair, however this is absolutely false!i have called the dealership in my area multiple times and am consistently told rental cars are not available and their ride shuttle is not available due to the pandemic.i called them before the pandemic and was told the same thing, that a rental car is not available for that service!they said i can sit in the waiting room for 4 hours (or more!) during the recall repair and that is it.i cannot miss work to resolve this, i have already done that in the past as this is not the first recall!i continue to receive notices in the mail telling me myself or my passengers could die if this problem isn't resolved, causing so much anxiety, and yet i cannot get the repair scheduled unless i take an entire day off work, lose an entire day of pay and sit in their waiting room for hours (during a pandemic)!ocean honda would not provide rental cars before the pandemic for this recall so i can't understand why i continue to receive these letters stating a free rental car is available for the day of the repair or longer - it is simply not the case!i have called and called and am met with rude call center agents telling me this is just the way it is, which makes the text in your letters outright lies.if i need to bring my car in for a recall and a free rental car is available as your letter states, please help me find a dealer who will honor the offer in the never ending recall notices that i receive or take me off of this mailing list so i do not have to continue to see these threats of serious injury or death to me or my passengers as they are causing too much stress and anxiety for me!

Takata recall. My airbag light came on and then i saw the recall. My model should be recalled as well. Also exterior lighting is very dull both of these have been previously recalled. I was in park, started my car and the airbag light came on. Scanner says it's the inflator

My side air bag light has been alternating between going off and on and staying on for long periods of time. I took it in to the dealer as it is still under warranty and initially they could not locate a problem. Finally, after my insistence, they pursued it a bit further(the computer read-outs showed no problems) and discovered there is some problem with a sensor located in a seat so all airbags are disabled until the part arrives. I am not happy about riding in our only vehicle until they get the part to fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v349000 (air bags). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

I was in an accident on nov 19th, 2004. Driver side airbag was not deployed at the time of accident. There was no passenger in my car, but passenger side airbag deployed. I called honda several times. They do not like to discuss this issue with me. Honda is asking for a statement from geico, insurance company. Geico is saying this is an issue of car manufacturer. Geico provided me photo showing passenger side airbag deployed. Honda does not want me to take the vehicle to the dealership where i leased it. I don't feel safe to drive this vehicle.today, jan 24th 2005, i spoke with mr. Armen yerzatian @ 800-999-1009 x118141. He is a supervisor @ customer service. He told me there is nothing he or honda can do if they don't receive a statement from insurance company, geico.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v370000 (air bags) and 15v320000 (air bags) from the manufacturer. While attempting to have the vehicle repaired for the recalls, the contact was notified by the dealer that the air bag repair may not be effective because the driver's seat belt srs control unit failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

We have had the takata airbags replaced by the honda dealer in bow, nh. However, our airbags are still not functioning as indicated by the airbag light still being on and the diagnositce later run (at our request) by the dealer.the dealer now ways that there is a defect in our seatbelt which is disabling the airbags.we thought the seatbelts were warrantied against defect but the dealer claims it is not.please assist.

Air bag deploy with out impact.

Srs (airbag) light remains on. Seat belt tensioner requires replacement. The srs airbag light controls not only airbag functionality, but also seat belt tensioners; the things that hold you in during a crash. Honda will not replace the seat belt tensioner.

My srs light had been coming on and off for months. I received a "recall letter" from honda 1/3/12, for an airbag issue. I called dealership service dept, was told that my car was not part of that recall. I was part of a mass dumping from honda for cars from 2000-2004.i then told them that my srs light was coming on and off, was advised to bring into service dept.i did. While being serviced, technicians scanned vehicle & checked for codes (which was $95) - no codes were found. They then ran a diagnostic troubleshoot, which indicated that srs control unit needed replaced and then recheck. Was told that would be $495, they did not have the part and would have to order it. Was also told, they were not evensure if that would be my solution. When i asked them what would have caused this control unit (for airbag safety feature), to need replaced. I was told that they "were unsure and maybe a short caused it.it is an electrical unit and many things could go wrong."when i asked what could cause a short, was told, 'not sure, could be wetness or an electrical malfunction." (wet inside my car, i know for a fact that is not the case.)i then stated, that this sounded like a manufactures defect to the unit. I was told otherwise. I asked about what happens when the srs light is on, told that the airbags will not be active and not deploy if in accident. Why is there no lifetime warranty on the airbag safety feature & system, (which is on all cars today), like there is for the seat belt mechanism & system?upon review of nhtsa, i see that there are numerous other complaints of this issue, of the srs light coming on and the control panel malfunctioning with suggested replacement.

2004 honda civic. Consumer concerned about the air bags in his vehicle. *taupdated 01/22/15

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving at a low speed the vehicle drove over a pot hole and the driver, and passenger side air bags deployed without warning. The driver received burns to his hands. The failure occurred when someone other than the contact was driving the vehicle. The manufacturer wasn't contacted. The vehicle wasn't repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

Takata recall. I have recieved mutiple letters concerning my air bag recall have had the care up there and have been told it's fixed, and i still get letters that it hasn't been fixed. Also the passenger air bag light has stayed on multiple times and they said they fixed but yet when i would go no more than 2 miles down the road it would come back on also the dealership i took it to did a multi point inspection and said my parking break was fine but little did they know my parking break doesn't work so how did it operate fine if i know good and well it doesn't. Will never do business with honda again

Took vehicle to honda dealer 11/14/2014 for airbag recall.they only replaced the passenger side airbag."inspected driver airbag.found is autoliv.airbag is okay".why would the driver's airbag not need replacing??this bothers me greatly.do you have a simple answer?(note:date above on item 2 is incorrect - could not fix)

2004 honda civic. Consumer states safety defect in air bag system *tgwthe consumer stated the air bag light illuminated.

I checked the site using my vin number and it keeps saying recall incomplete. I called the place i bought the car to see about a recall for the airbags and they never got back to me. I would like to know if my car is safe to drive and i don't understand what incomplete recall means. Another site said my car has 2 recalls, but i never received information on this. What do i have to do next to make sure my car is safe to drive?

"takata recall" we own 2 hondas involved in the recall. The airbags were replaced on both vehicles. The srs light is illuminated on both vehicles since the airbag was replaced. Rt. 23 honda, pompton plains, nj replaced the airbags. They want $300 for each vehicle to fix this problem that they say is not related to the airbag replacement. We feel this must be related to the replacement. Seems unlikely that 2 vehicles after replacement would have the same problem. I will submit a second form since there are 2 vin numbers involved. I last spoke to the dealer about this on 4/21/2016.

Driver air bag did not deploy in front end collision with serve damage to car including moving the engine, replacement of the radiator, fan housing, ft bumper and hood.speed approx. 35 mph.several complaints have been made to honda in regard to the air bag light.honda dealer even assured the owner one week prior to accident that air bag was functioning.

My son was driving my carnew years eve he was parked at a local donut shop and decided to move the vehicle to another spot . As he was backing out the rear window was not fully defrosted and he hit another parked car. He was doing less then 10 miles an hour and my air bags deployed. Causing my car to be totaled due to the cost. I'm having it repaired as i do love my car but it should not have deployed at this low a speed. 3000 for air bags that i should have gotten a recall on and fixed it just wrong. I am the original owner of this vehicle.

Car was inspected and determined to require a new passenger air bag on may 26th 2015.as of september 1st 2015 the dealer has made no contact and has said that they do not have the part.vehicle still has not been repaired as of sept 1 2015, over 3 months after it was brought in.

Srs light on for years.told it was nothing to worry about. Then honda says it is a serious safety issue, i have to pay hundreds of dollars for repair.transmission went out cost over $2500 so far, car still isn't working. Well known problem but honda is greedy and won't pay to fix their unsafe vehicles.car overheats when using the heater.driver seat feels like it is going to move while driving. I will never buy a honda ever again.

Air bags warning light came on dash board.

Airbag light remained "on" for almost 8 months.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v182000 (air bags). The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

My airbag light is on, i don't know why.

My 04 civic wiring almost set my car completely on fire. The whole electrical harnesses where melted the car without warning started blowing smoke out of the air vents, i pulled over and the car was thick with smoke. The wires under the hood and inside the car all the way to the trunk were all melted. I towed the car to the dealer and they had to replace all the eletrical and sensors in the whole car. It cost over $3100. To replace everything, the car somtimes wont start and the computer has to be reset to start also the air bag light is now on., the dealer said every electrical component on the car might need to be replaced, computer etc. But it will cost about $4000+ dollars and its possible that the air bag will not deploy in an accident., 2004 honda civics are unsafe to drive., driving honda civics are dangerous and no one should buy them.

Drivers air bag not working.

My honda civic had an air bag recall, which i took the car in for.about 2 months after the fix, my air bag light came on.i had it checked out at another shop and they reset my light.it come back on approximately every month.it seems to me that it is suspicious that i never had any such problem until the honda dealer replaced the air bag.they refuse to address the problem and insist it is not there responsibility.coincidence i don't think so. I would like to know if this is an ongoing issued with other honda owners who have undergone this procedure

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that the airbag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact then received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v501000 (air bags). The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the recall was serviced; however, the airbag warning light remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact notified the dealer of the failure and he was informed that the warning light was related to a failure that was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

My complaint is about a dealership handling my airbag recall for my 2004 honda civic. I took my car into the dealership willett honda south in morrow, ga.,to be "inspected," they claimed they did not have the airbags in stock even though my honda case manager said they did. The dealership went out of their way to find other things wrong with my car to get me to spend money there, they were also extremely flippant about my concern about continuing to drive this car even though nothing had been fixed on the car at all. The person handling my checkout experience basically said "well you have been driving this car for 10 1/2 years, what are the chances something will happen." i can't believe someone at the honda dealership would be this way about airbags that have killed people.

Good morning,we took our honda civic in for an airbag recall recently.last weekend the air bag light came on and we return to the dealer.they said they couldn't check it out unless we paid an initial $150.00 service fee and that it was probably the seat belt that broke and not the air bag but that its not covered since we now have gone over the 80,000 mile limit on their liability.

The airbag light is on and will not turn off even after i brought it in for repair. It was off for about a week after the repair but went on again. Honda says there is no air bag recall with this car...i do not believe that this airbag is safe because of this malfunction.

Vehicle was taken to dealership due to airbag recall. Customer was informed that passenger airbag requires replacement, part had to be ordered and would take up to 2 weeks. Dealership said it was dangerous to continue to operate the vehicle but offered no alternate transportation.

Srs light in my honda civic came on and stayed on. Dealer said it's the seatbelt tensioner which seems to be common in many hondas. Why no recall?

Owned a 2004 honda civic car. The airbag light has been on for several weeks. Heard about the honda air bag recall nov. 2014. Honda says there is no air bag recall with this car yet?! this is malfunction is definitely not safe at all. Someone has to be responsible for people' lives.

Air bag srs system malfunction

Takata recall --took my vehicle to the dealer big star honda in houston, for the recall to fix the air bags as per their appointment schedule on 11/21/20169:15am,(it took me 3 tries to schedule the appointment becauase the parts were not available).the promise was it will be ready by 3 hours -- but around 4.15 pm my car was ready to be picked up as i drove of the parking lot into the feeder road of the highway i 45 south i noticed the red airbag light and engine light come on --- i called the dealer on my cellphone right then as i was driving home tried 3 different numbers left messages called again this morning (11/22/2016) no response i opened up another case number with honda parent company case # 03744997. There is no visible sign on the airbag area to show if they did any work to exchange the inflator; the recall was for both passanger and driver side air bag.

Dealership showed no recall for this vin , when i entered it in their website.

Takata recall- i took my honda in for two safety recalls (airbags; 15v-320 and 15v-370) at holman honda. I received a phone call stating the the airbag light was on and the right airbag impact sensor needed to be replaced for $357.00. No lights were on when i dropped off the car... I'm concerned about this dealerships practices and charges for free safety recalls. My vehicle still feels unsafe!

Srs airbag light indicator went on suddenly on ignition and never turned off.brought to dealership who said the srs fuse box needed to be replaced as it wasn't under warranty anymore.other civic's also have multiple complaints of this. Front passenger window also moves up real slow almost to a halt sometimes using both driver and passenger power window switches.haven't taken this in as already past the warranty too.electrical stuff seems to be going kaputz after the warranty ended.

Takata recalls we have never received anything stating if our vehicle has been recalled or not. Everything i read says it has & we will receive notification. Well when will that happen, when an airbag explodes & hurts someone?

Takata recall-airbag light recently came on and stays on when ignition is in drive car moving or not. I was sent a notice through the post office that stated my car may have a problem with the airbags. Thank you.

I have made repeated calls to honda america at 1 800 999 1009 i cannot get an answer from anyone as to whether or not this car has a takatta airbag which is a potentially a small bomb mounted in front of the passenger and or driver.i've called two honda dealers in the seattle wa area and they will not directly answer the question, all they will say is there is no recall for this vehicle at this time!!!given the state of ethic s and honesty in this country today i am somehow a bit distrustful of corporate japan, corporate america....to say nothing of general motors and the problem of ignition switches purposely buried for years...executives should be jailed.

Recall has been corrected at the honda dealership in oxford, nc. There was no crash. I received a notice and took the car to the shop.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated when starting the vehicle; the air bag warning light was illuminated on the warning panel. The warning light indicated that the air bag was turned off.the dealer replaced the battery. Several hours following repairs, the air bag warning light was illuminated again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where he advised he was unsure what the exact failure was and would not be able to repair it.there were no further repairs to the vehicle and the failure persisted. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.

I have a 2004 honda civic ex sedan. The driver's side seatbelt sensor that connects with the larger srs safety system was triggered for no apparent reason. When this sensor indicates a failure, the srs light comes on and the airbags are taken offline and prevented from being deployed. Thus, it is a serious safety concern. I took it to the dealership honda of pasadena, where they reset the sensor, tested it, and declared that it was not faulty. So they would not replace it under warranty, nor give any discounted price for replacement. My concern is that the sensor triggered for no reason, so it is likely to trigger again for no reason, disabling airbag deployment in the case of a crash. I can't take this chance given that i and my family have a long road trip next week. So i need to pay $320 out of pocket to have the sensor replaced.online honda-specific forums make it clear that i'm not the only one dealing with a mysterious triggering of the driver's side seatbelt sensor. There are at least 6 other cases that i could find. I reported my case to honda corporate, and was informed that no recall or extended warranty existed as yet for that sensor. I hope that the nhtsa will keep a record of complaints about this sensor failure.

Srs light came on.vehicle taken to dealer as advised in manual.appointment offered for 2/21/12.diagnosis: driver's seatbelt buckle faulty. Part "on national backorder"--unknown when it will be available. Meanwhile, since this is the only car i have, i am forced to drive a vehicle with a useless/potentially useless seatbelt and no air bags!

On monday, march 11, 2019, the "airbag warning" (red colored) light that depicts a deployed airbag in front of a driver (passenger?) in a front seat, appeared as i was driving (and not at the time i started my car's engine) on a paved road, normal road conditions, driving around 40 mph; i was not braking or making sharp turns. My honda manual states that this symbol means that either the airbag(s) or the seatbelt mechanism is not working properly.with respect to the airbag, it states that upon a car accident, the air bag may not properly work; and therefore, i should have my airbag(s) inspected by a honda dealer as soon as possible. I alsohave side airbags in my car. My seatbelt seems to be working fine, so i'm not sure if/how this warning could apply to my seatbelt. I had the driver's side airbag replaced i believe in 2016 or 2017; my paperwork is in storage, howeverupon your request, i will locate the information.i heard and read today aboutthe takata bag recall on about 1.2 million honda cars from around 2002 to 2016.i entered my vin number into your system and it does not indicate another recallon the airbag i already had replaced; i seem to remember that the replacedairbag i received around 2017 was not a takata, was another brand. Perhaps this warning light is about the passenger's airbag?nevertheless, this airbag and seatbelt warning light does concern me. Thank you in advance for your help.

I took my vehicle to change the air bags per notification from honda. I took the car to val strough honda dealership in sand city, ca. They changed the passenger air bag per recall, and said they would call me later to schedule the driver's since they did not have parts available.a notification in the mail said that if after 60 days i have not been notified to change the second airbag to file a complaint. So here i am.thanks,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2004 honda civic coupe. While driving 35 mph, the passenger side air bag warning light illuminated. Called america honda on 11/12/14.asked if there was a recall on airbag and seat belt problem.warning light has been on for several weeks.honda said there was no recall on my car, after giving vin number.i ask why the airbag/seatbelt light remained on.honda said she was not allowed to speculate what was wrong with the car.one place on the internet said honda was going to do a recall starting nov.24 2014.what happens if my wife or myself gets hurt before the recall starts?

Takata recall: vehicle was in motion on highway. Accident occurred. Vehicle struck automobile in front of it. Air bags did not deploy. Vehicle flipped over. Driver was killed.## vin passed ## honda civic 2004 ##

The passenger airbag went off on its own really scared me very dangerous i was driving i was on the street driving about 15 20 miles an hour

I noticed my airbag or seatbelt light came on so i took it to a honda facility to have it fixed. They did repair work but a week later the light came back on and will not go off. I've also had my driver side window electric replaced but am still having issues with the window rolling up when it rains. That is the only time i have issues with the driver side window.

Had the local honda dealership replace the takata product. Was targeted by sales to puchase other "needs" they found and recommended for repair. The airbag was replaced.had to take an appointment and time from work

I took our honda into the honda dealer for an airbag recall.they changed the airbag on oct 20 2016.after a few days the airbag light came on. They did a scan and now they say the seat belt on the driver side needs to be replaced. About $700.00. I am seeing thru google searches that this seems to be an ongoing problem after the airbag is replaced. As this is a safety issue and seems to be an ongoing honda problem i am thinking they should rectify problem or install original airbag back to fix.as this was a car only driven 5 to 6 months a year and then stored for the rest now that we want to sell we need to get fixed

Received a recall notice on my 2004 civic stating the driver's airbag inflator needed to be replaced.took it to the closet dealership.after an inspection of the vehicle i was told they were unable to perform the recall due to airbag belongs to a different year civic and recall is not valid.when purchasing the used vehicle i was not informed of that the airbag had been replaced.after receiving another notice that i had not completed the safety recall i took it again to the dealership, along with the written safety recall notice.again i was told my vehicle did not have the original air bag installed.i have received a third notice about the recall from honda and do not understand why the dealership did not report this information on my vehicle.how do i know that the airbag in my vehicle is safe?

Received notification that there may be an air bag problem and that i should register my car.

Srs light came on dashboard. Brought to dealership and after diagnostic test informed part of recall. No charge. It has been one week waiting for replacement part to arrive and no communication from them yet. Since getting the automobile back, the light has not appeared. More concerned with the inconsistent experience as the light should still be on and its not.

Takata recallduring a january snowfall and freeze, i was traveling in the middle lane of the highway at approximately 50-60 miles per hour, with the speed of traffic.a car approximately 7-8 car lengths ahead of me began to break and i did too. I was breaking when my car began to fishtail and i was able to maintain control of the car for 2-3 seconds before hitting a patch of ice and spinning into the highway concrete median.my car did not hit any other vehicles before hitting the median on the driver side front and hood.i estimate that i was traveling over 40 miles an hour.the car then spun around and hit the back drivers side and then spun again to facing forward.my concern is that the airbags, which were replaced in the takata recall a few years ago did not go off. The car was considered totaled and was donated.

I was in an accident going 45mph. The entire front end was destroyed and none of the airbags deployed. Without my seatbelt i more than likely would've gone thru the windshield. There were no lights indicating any kind of problems prior to the accident. And in my opinion they just failed to deploy. As i stated earlier, the front of the car is all but gone. Based on the amount of airbags complaints there is a problem that needs to be addressed here.

Airbag did not deploy in collision on a road with wintry road conditions and an in-experienced driver.i was the only person in the car, the driver airbag did not deploy but the passenger airbag did.

This involved a 3 car crash on the highway.the civic was the last car to try to stop.the car did not have time to stop and since there was a concrete barrier on one side and traffic in other lanes, the car rear-ended the car in front of it.there was extensive damage to the front of the vehicle.the passenger side air bag deployed by the driver's side airbag did not.the driver experienced a great deal of chest pain.

Dt*: the contact stated, while driving at 35 mph., a police vehicle enter from a side road, causing a collision. The impact was on the right front side of the vehicle. Both front air bags failed to deploy, allowing the contact to impact the steering wheel resulting in minor head injuries. The passenger sustained whiplash injuries. Both occupants were wearing seat belts. A police report was filed and photographs were taken at the scene. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot.

Dt: thedrivers side air bag did not deploy when the consumer had a head on collision. The consumer was going 35 mph and was hit head on. This happened without warning. The driver had minor injuries. The dealer and manufacturer have not been contacted yet. A police report was filed.

While driving 65m ph in 3rd lane of a 4 lane highway. Tapped brakes to reduce speed slightly, both wheels on right side of car locked up, sending car into a fish tail through both lanes on either side of the car, spun and hit the center guard rail of the highway facing back up the direction i came from. Side and front air bags did not deploy on passengar side where the most serve impact occurred.the accident caused $13,000 of damage including severe frame damage.honda refused to inspect the brakes after the accident, instead claimed that the brake damage was caused by the accident, not the cause of the accident. Talking privately with a honda certified mechanic, i was able to get the error codes on the computer: inlet cylinoid failure (31.1 & 35.1) & passenger side front air bag censor failure (9.9.7).honda refused to do anything about this, and i sold the car as i felt unsafe driving it. The car was still on warranty.

Front end collision, significant damage to car, smoking and fire truck at scene. Driver taken out on backboard with neck brace in place by ems personnel and taken to the emergency room.no air-bags deployed. Report filed with honda. Currently, investigation taking place to see why air-bags didn't work.

Dashboard seatbelt restraint light came on 9 months into ownership of a used 2004 honda civic sedan - took in for state inspection but will not pass state inspection without repair.i was informed it is the driver seatbelt switch that needs repair, cost $260.

Honda civic 2004 drivers airbag failed to deploy, passengers side deployed, extensive damage to front drivers side of car.

Consumer was driving approximately 40 mph when a car suddenly pulled right in front of her out of a gas station. The consumer then applied brakes but the vehicle did not stop in time. The consumer rear ended the vehicle. The consumers air bags did not deploy at all. The cause of why it did not deploy was undetermined.

Vehicle was involved in a collision (at a speed of 35-40 mph) that resulted in the car being "totaled" due to the fact that the front end, front bumper, side panels were crushed and the frame of the car was bent.eventhough the air bag sensors in the front were "hit", no air bags were deployed.as a result, driver suffered severe whiplash and injured ankle.

The consumer was involved in an accident, the driver side air bag did not deploy, but the passenger air bag deployed and the seat broke from the base.

Dt: the consumer stated the airbag deployed while driving at about 5-7 mph. Consumer was attempting to park the vehicle andhad not hit anything, no curve or debris in the road or no potholes. Consumner went to turn into the parking space and theair bags deployed and the consumer crashed into a wall.driver sustained burns to the arm from the force of the air bag.was treated by the emergency crew on site of the accident. The vehicle sustained $10,000.00 worth of damage. Consumer having the vehicle repaired. There was a police report.

While driving 30 mph both frontal air bags inadvertently deployed. This caused the driver to sustain minor injuries , and was transported to ahospital. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. The cause had not been determined at this time.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic.while driving 55 mph, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle.the entire front end of the contact's vehicle was damaged, but the most damage was done to the driver side.the driver side air bag failed to deploy.the road conditions were slick at the time of the crash.she sustained a fractured sternum and a mild concussion and was transported to the hospital.a police report was filed and pictures are available.the current and failure mileages were 53,379.

While driving at 20 mph and crossing a stop light the consumer was t-boned on the drivers side by another vehicle.the side air bags did not deploy.the consumer suffered back injuries.*mr

I own a honda civic sedan automatic 4 wheel drive purchased brand new 2004 model.first of all, yesterday i noticed the light on my console that meant the passenger side airbag was turned off.when i called the dealership to ask why it went on they said it was because my purse was on the seat and it thinks a child under 60 pounds is sitting there so it automatically turns off the air bag.they said it will go away when i take everything off the passenger seat.the light did not go away and when my sister who is 130 pounds sat on the seat and drove with me the light never went off, meaning that if i had gotten into a car accident her airbag would not have deployed.second, today when i was driving on the 101 freeway going between 65 and 70, the gas pedal became loose and my car continued to accelerate very quickly even though i was not even touching the gas pedal.when i tried to brake the car began to shake violently, traffic was building so i kept trying to brake and the car shook so badly that i started losing control of the vehicle.luckily i thought of using the neutral drive to stop the acceleration of my vehicle.the car continued to make the noise like i was hitting the gas but the car slowed down enough and i was able to get off the freeway and park.had it not been for me thinking of using the neutral shift, i would have hit a car in front of me.i got my car towed to the honda dealership but i have not heard since then.

2004 honda civic hybrid. Consumer states issues with seat belt light *tgwthe consumer stated the dealer had supposedly fixed the problem in the past. However, the consumer had to return to the dealer for the same problem. The dealer then said the seat belt light illuminating was due to another issue and that the part would have to be ordered. When the consumer went back to the dealer for her 90,000 mile maintenance, she had to remind them to replace the part.when the other repairs were completed, the service manager informed the consumer the cost to fix the problem would be $750.00 and that it was not under warranty. He explained that the srs control unit was bad and if she did not get it fixed, the air bags would be useless.

While driving 40 mph speed control engaged.the consumermade attempt to disengage the system and the vehicle accelerated. This caused the driver to lose control and run into a ditch.upon impact, the front air bags deployed, but not the side air bags.the consumer sustained a brokenankle, fractured hip joint, fractured pelvis and a collapsed left lung.

For the past few weeks, car wouldn't start when turning key.lights on panel light up but no sound and doesn't turn.after trying up to 10 times or as few as 3 times, the car would start and drive normally.then at other times, it would start with no problem.took into honda dealer on november 3, 2011.car started with no problems so could not detect actual problem.drove car home and drove fine.last night my daughter drove the car in a residential area at night, so wasn't going too fastthen didn't notice anything until she started braking.then realized the brakes didn't work and the steering froze, the car just stalled. They panicked and drove uphill and let it roll back several times trying to stop it then came to a stop and parked it.someone came to assist, jiggled the wheel and it was fine and the car restarted with no problems after.drove the car home.we are afraid to drive it again in case it locks up again especially at a higher speed and with no brakes or steering control.researched it on internet and found that there was some recalls on ignition switch where the electrical contacts within the ignition switch gets worn prematurely causing the switch to malfunction.this could be very serious and dangerous and thought it should be reported. Would appreciate any information you may provide us and recommendations.i checked my vin and there was no recalls but it sure sounds like the same problem with other recalls.thank you so much and looking forward to hearing from you.

On this particular day, i twice had difficulty getting the key into the ignition. The first time it took about 30 seconds to succeed in inserting the key. The second time it took a full 5 minutes. I had never had this problem before. I am now leaving the key in the ignition until i can get it repaired.this sounds like a symptom of the problem covered by the 2003 civic recall, but honda america refuses to cover it. They did say i'm welcome to send them the diagnostics when i go to get it repaired to see if they'll consider covering it. The report i filed with them is #[xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The door lock actuators on both the passenger and driver door of my 04 honda civic coupe failed, on separate occasions and honda replaced them. Honda claims it was an internal failure and failed to give me more details as i had requested. For the period when the actuators were inoperable i was unable to unlock the door with the power locks and had to open the doors manually by either the key or pulling the lock up from the interior. The failures both occurred on a day when the outside temp reached 90 degrees fahrenheit, and were resolved on cold nights, however, resumed during the hot daytime hours. *

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he attempted to unlock the front driver's door manually. The contact stated that he experienced difficulty inserting the key and once the key was inserted, he experienced difficulty turning the key. The failure progressed until the key would not turn when inserted in the door lock. The failure also occurred on the front passenger door. In addition, the same failure occurred with the trunk and ignition switch. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on various occasions to have the door lock cylinders replaced. The ignition key cylinder was also replaced. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 25,000.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic.the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine and battery warning lights.the vehicle was restarted after the contact received a jump start.this failure recurred over twenty times within a year. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 11v106000(electrical system), however, the contact's particular year was not included.the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure.the manufacturer was notified of the defect.the approximate failure mileage was 168,878.

My 2004 honda civic hybrid that i purchased new has an ima battery problem that started in september by causing a check engine and ima lights to activate. The code says the ima battery has deteriorated and this is very dangerous because when i pull onto the interstate i have to give it full throttle just to merge in with traffic because the battery can't provide full assist like it used to. Sometimes it can't get up to highway speed fast enough as cars come flying up on my bumper or they whip out into the other lane and fly past me. I called the hendrick honda dealership that i purchased it from and they said it only has an 8 year 80000 mile warranty but the honda insight has a 157000 mile warranty. This seems to be a common problem for the 2004 honda civic hybrids just like the honda insight. Please investigate this complaint for me and the thousands of other honda owners with this same problem.

Honda civic hybrid, 20041) at service checkup was told that battery (normal battery, not hybrid cells) was a little low in charge and should be replaced soon. I decided to wait and get a battery in the next few months. While driving about 3 weeks later there was a sudden electrical malfunction affecting all car functions. Lights on dash would go out and intermittently work or flash all lights simultaneously (along with radio, heater, etc), power steering suddenly went out making it difficult to steer, then would come on for a second or two, causing the car to swerve. Brakes worked intermittently. While not working i pushed the brake as hard as i could with only minimal slowing - it felt like the anti-lock mechanism was engaged. All of this happened while driving 30 mph 2 miles from the dealership, so i was able to get to the dealership. Once i understood what was happening i was able to control the car at 20 mph for the 2 miles.2) one time when battery ran out of charge.3) i got to the dealer - they replaced the battery and everything immediately worked as normal. The dealer was skeptical that the problem was serious and i was not able to see where to file a complaint with honda. When i have asked about this the service department says that something else must have caused it and diagnostics would be required. But over the past year it has never happened again, and 70,000 mile checkup did not show any problems.it appears that the battery is somehow linked with the hybrid battery system, such that loosing battery power does not just keep the car from starting, but shorts out all electrical systems, then perhaps comes back on as a small amount of charge is replaced to the battery?i added an aftermarket stereo, all rest of electrical is honda. If no other complaints exist perhaps this is the cause, though it doesn't seem likely.

Speedometer fails by getting stuck at a speed at a speed and not decreasing once the car is slowed down, then that speed is the new starting speed and the speedometer increases with the cars speed.the speedometer eventually reaches past the maximum and is pegged at the bottom. Sometimes the needle will re-adjust towards 0, but only about 2mph when the car is turned off.

My wife was driving my honda civic lx, 2004 . We have been using this car since last 6 year without any problem. On nov. 1st we were driving this car to go to work; car was running perfect smooth with no indication of any problem. During evening hours when she was driving back to home after work. Car started fine as usual but she drove about 5 miles and as soon as she reached on the walt whitman bridge (nj) smoke started to come out from the engine compartment, she pulled over car in the shoulder lane and got out of the car.she called the police for help, as soon as police officer arrived on the scene, car busted in the flames. Police called the fire department for help and soon whole car engulfed in flames and started to burn with high flames. By the time fire truck showed up whole car was destroyed by the fire. It was very unusual that the running car with no problem for 6 years and fine running car all of sudden caught in fire. It seems to me that there is some faulty electrical problem and may be due to manufacture defect. I am very fortunate that there was no injury or death in this incidence. However my car was completely burn down and destroyed. I will appreciate if you can help me with this. Did anyone before reported this kind of problem in this model of car which may suggest manufacture defect?

I own a 2004 honda civic hybrid, with a defective ima (hybrid) battery. I had noticed difficulty accelerating effectively onto freeway ramps and just sluggish performance in general.honda diagnostics state the battery has failed.the car only had 85k miles on it at that time. The poor performance of the vehicle makes it frightening to get on and off the freeway where i live.replacement cost is $3500, which i cannot afford.many websites such as hybridcars.com and edmonds.com have 100's of posts by frustrated consumers.unofficial estimates of later model vehicles, with even lower miles, state at least 5% of the cars have defective battery life.honda could extend the warranty or lower cost for replacement but is stallingas there are class action suits in the process of being filed.please, please, help honda civic hybrid consumers, many of whom were counting on honda's good name and hybrid fuel economy precisely because they could not afford to spend $$ repairing a car or guzzling gas.i am a medical student, and single mother who was counting on this car making it another 5 years.i have cared for it well and cannot afford this expensive repair.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic hybrid. While parked, the contact noticed that the check engine light and the integrated motor assist light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics, where the technician stated that the integrated motor assist battery would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000. Contacted honda of america they are replacing my battery pack with brand new one from the factory. I am paying only partial cost they are paying the rest of the cost. [xxx] updated 10/12/2011 *lninformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Driver side sear belt does not retract.it has been replaced before by the dealer.front mud flaps are to low andare damages and need replacing.electric plug socket does not work(lighter and cell phone)

Alternator and battery failed simultaneously - while driving car to garage for repair, engine cut out completely and i was unable to use hazard flashers to signal danger (and could not open electric windows to use hand signals).i don't think this is specific to the honda civic but this seems like a real safety hazard.emergency battery backup for hazard flashers might be a good idea for future designs.

My key will not go into the ignition, leaving me stranded in an area where i do not want to be stranded.

I bought a new honda civic hybrid in 2004 with an extended 7 yr 100k warranty.at 91k miles, i took the car in complaining that the ima battery indicator was low.i was charged over $150 for a new regular battery, told the ima battery was fine, and sent home.i visited my dealer on several occasions with similar complaints about the ima gauge being low and the engine light being on.just after my warranty expired, i was told that the ima battery was deteriorating and that it would need to be replaced, at a cost of over $6700.i have seen similar complaints online from other honda hybrid owners.i feel certain that the ima battery was "deteriorating" the first time i brought it in and was put off until the warranty expired.

My key would come out of the ignition while not in park, the vehicle sometimes does not fully go into park unless forcefully pulled back into park so sometimes the vehicle wouldn't be in park all night or while in public parking lots. My honda made key had to go into the ignition facing perfectly one way to start the car then the ignition completely refused the key and wouldn't turn once it accepted it. While i was trying to get my key to turn the ignition the car, in a public gas station parking lot, was not even in park even though i was completely able to turn the car off and take the key out of the ignition. My ignition no longer turns at all, i've already checked that the chip in my key is still functioning properly. Police officers tried to help me correct the issue without any success. The electrical system is now also acting up since this incident the radio flashes instead of staying on, i am now unable to change the time on the radio clock and my interior lights had to be removed because they refused to shut off.

3 months ago i bought a honda civic hybrid from a dealership in alexandria,va. The car door wouldn't open nor start on sept 4th and so i had the car towed to the honda dealership to find out the problem. The honda dealership diagnosed a 2nd class alarm in the vehicle and a bad battery, so they fixed iton sept 8th the car died again while i was at work so i had to hitch a ride home. So on sept 10th i called the sales manager in va and told him the car was giving me problems. On saturday september 11th i was going to make a trip to see the sales manager in person when my car quit working when i was trying to make a turn into the bp gas station in md. My mother had to pick me, we then went to the va dealership and they sent a tow truck to get the car on their account. Now after 4 days of waiting to hear about the status of the car, the general manager from the va dealership told me it was all my fault, basically insulted me as a woman saying that i should be more experienced, that i should've gotten a warranty on the vehicle which i had until their financial accountant told me 3weeks after i bought the car that the bank couldn't finance the car for the whole amount financed. So isaid i just bought that car and i have only made 3 car payments. So i found out later through my mechanic friend that the ima battery was on it's last leg and they probably put a band-aid on a gash which was the lithium battery which is the life-force of the car.the cost is 3450 he tells me. So i asked the general manager if you weren't going to do anything with the vehicle why did you tow my car from oxon hill,md to alexandria,va. He had no response and went on to say if i wanted the car fixed it would come of my own pocket and that was that. I have just paid 550 for a used ima hybrid battery pack and my mechanic friend if going to install for me. The old ima battery was worn out, rusted, the length of time this occurred was every day since incident date, still not fixed yet.

I am unable to give a vin number since my civic is currently at the dealership ([xxx]) where it was purchasedmy speedometer or mph rarely works.occasionally when i hit a bump it will work temporarily.i've discovered when researching the internet that i'm not the only one with a speedometer problem for that year honda civic.for safety reasons, why hasn't there been a recall?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While parked, the vehicle's trunk caught fire without warning.it was later determined that the batteries electrical wiring and cables arc causing the fire.

The contact stated that the passenger's side front window, rear passenger's side window, and rear driver's side window seized in the open and closed positions on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the passenger's side front window regulator needed to be replaced however, the cause of the failure on the rear windows was inconclusive. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Had to get a boost off and a couple hours later the ignition switch completely stopped working.

I bought my 2004 civic lx 2 door, thinking that i would not have the problems of a used car i was certainly wrong. The first problem was that i never received a copy of or signed the pre delivery inspection check list.i had my car up to the dealership at just over 3,000 miles for its first alignment.then, i had problems with the carnot starting.sometimes it would start and sometimes it wouldn't.it didn't depend on the temperature outside or the amount of gas in the car.sometimes when it would start, it would crank out as if i was letting out the clutch too fast. But on many attempts to restart the vehicle it would crank, but would never turn over or fire.had the car up to the dealership once again for the starting problem , but they said since there weren't any error codes, there was nothing that they could do the car seemed fine.my latest problem; at just over 9,000 miles, i just had my front left wheel bearing replaced.! once again my alignment was done.everything has been covered under warranty. But what is going to go wrong next???i certainly wouldn't recommend a honda to anyone i know.

While driving between 35-40 mph consumer was driving and the vehicle failed. It was decelerating.consumer called the dealer, and they towed the vehicle, and arranged for the consumer to get a rental car.meanwhile, dealer was not able to duplicate the problem, and insisted that consumer keep the vehicle. Consumer was very dissatisfied.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated the steering wheel locked without warning while entering the drive way and the steering wheel could not be turned. A private mechanic inspected the vehicle and located the failure inthe ignition switch. The mechanic was able to place the vehicle in neutral gear into neutral in order to move the vehicle to a safe area. The contact also stated the drivers seat belt retracting system failed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 158,000.

Honda civic hybrid 2004 model car stopped briefly for passenger pickup, or for putting gas in a gas station, does not start for over 10 minutes and then starts up. It has happened 3 or 4 times in the past 2 months.

2004 honda civic si - car caught on fire. Fire started in engine compartment while driving. Car engulfed in flames. Car declared a total loss by insurance company.

When i took vehicleto regular fluid exchange for 80k mileage, honda service experts said, compliance bush for the front wheel has been cracked. They also said it is pretty serious to drive and need to be replaced soon. The local mechanic shop are not aware of these repairs. None other vehicles has this kind of defects and it isnever mentioned in honda manual.simple search in the internet resulted numerous complaint about this. Considering the pretty seriousness of this issue, consider safety fact on honda vehicles based on this issue.

Manual transmission honda civic lx 2004 reaches rattling/grinding noise when reached 2000 rpm or so. The noise is loud and downshifting becomes very rough. The car slows down when not pressing accelerator. Even when in neutral the car sounds with a rattle. Only when the clutch is pressed does the sound minimize. Car feels vulnerable when driven like this. It's mainly due to the noise, and feeling of the car. The input shaft bearing is the problem. Many reports were blogged and diagnosed. The car still runs. Unfortunately it's not clear for how long.

At 74,515 miles the transmission is out of my 2004 civic,..the car is in excellent condition even the original floor mats are in place and look great because of my care of the car,...i want honda to pay for the cost of a new transmission for choosing to install a cheep one and knowing it wouldn't last. I was driving home from work and was just about ran over by traffic when my car began to slow and make noise putting me in a very stressful situation.

The hood rod contacted the battery terminal and appears to have started a fire during highway driving.

The vehicle is growling and rumbling in low gears, shifting from first to second. I took the car in and they want to rebuild transmission. I find at 77000 miles the vehicle transmission should not be failing. Researching has amounted to numerous vehicles that have the same problem. One mechanic has personally seen 4 vehicles in past few months with the same problem.i believe the manufacture should take responsibility for this matter!

This is the second 04 honda civic i've owned. The first one was a hybrid and the transmission blew while driving on the highway. The civic i own now only has 85k and was previously owned by an old lady since it was new. But low and behold the transmission blew while driving again. How many people need to get injured or killed in order for this to be recalled?????

Srs light on for years.told it was nothing to worry about. Then honda says it is a serious safety issue, i have to pay hundreds of dollars for repair.transmission went out cost over $2500 so far, car still isn't working. Well known problem but honda is greedy and won't pay to fix their unsafe vehicles.car overheats when using the heater.driver seat feels like it is going to move while driving. I will never buy a honda ever again.

I was stopped at a light with my r foot on the break. Suddenly the car went into an uncontrolled acceleration. I could hear the engine revving. In a few seconds, it hit the car directly in front of me and stopped upon impact but if that car hadn't been there i would have been propelled into a busy intersection with crossways traffic. It was like a nightmare. This was at a very busy city street intersection at a busy time of day (3 pm), on the access rd to a major interstate hwy in a large metro area. The other driver and valet guys from a hotel across the street witnessed i was extremely shaken up but alert and in my right mind, etc.

Today, i was driving my wife s 2004 honda civic in the highway at about 60 miles per hr when all of the sudden the car started accelerating as if it was in cruise control.. I took my foot off the gas pedal and pressed the brake with little results.the brakes felt so hard as if they were locked.then i decided to change gears to d2 and together with the emergency brake i was able to slow down the car a bit.after that, i pulled over the brake down lane at about 10 miles per hour but i still could not stop the car.with the help of the emergency brake i was able to stop the car however, the engine was still running as if it was accelerating.this is when i decided to put it on neutral and follow by a loud noise the engine finally stop running....thank god no one was hurt....

Hot air was not blowing. Noticed little bit of green coolant on the garage floor. There was enough coolant in the reservoir. Took it to the honda dealer. Pressure test was performed. Service told me that head gasket blown and need to be fixed immediately otherwise car may become stalled anytime. 5 months ago same dealer performed timing belt, water pump maintenance. Mileage is very low for head gasket related issues.

Vehicle purchased new nov 2004 - three occurrences of engine stalling while in gear and car in motion- dealer says diagnostics do not show a problem - extreme safetey hazard - car is unsafe - dealer has not corrected problem.

Input shaft bearing failure ...thought it was originally the clutch, release bearing and fork paid and replaced and problem still persisted...this is a common problem with this model and year and is a constant progression of noise and inhibits acceleration and smooth driving ...i feel as if the car is ready to completely fail and i've driven manual transmissions all my life so user error is not the cause... I've always stood by honda and there products all my life and hope there customer service and loyalty is still of highest value and the right actions on their part are done to rectify this recurring issue in there product.i drive over 100 miles a day and hope one day i am not stranded or worse in an accident due to my car suddenly halting due to misaligned gears on the freeway...

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic.the contact was driving 45 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning.the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was inspected.the dealer informed the contact that where the timing belt tensioner was located, a spring was fractured and caused the timing belt to fail.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, did not offer any assistance.no repairs were performed.the current and the failure mileages were 117,695.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic-hybrid.the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and they found no failures; however, they reset the sensor.the contact stated that if the engine failed, he would be unaware because the indicator is constantly illuminated.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 147,000.

I drive a 2004 honda civic while coming out from work was at a stop light and when the light turned green push on the gas and notice my car had shut down, almost got into an accident just bought a used car in jan this happened in the begin of march. This was not the only thing that happen my car would have this late crank when you start it. It happens occasionly took it to honda dealer ship and they ran a test on it and the guy said that he could not duplicate what had happen .

2004 honda civic lx sedan 60,300 miles, used certified vehicle bought from howard cooper dealership in ann arbor mi.engine did overheat at idle, 1/2 quart of coolant spilled on the floor of my garage. Coolant levels were topped after event, at radiator and bottle with 1/'2 qt of coolant.vehicle was inspected at dealership, cylinder head gasket damaged, perhaps head damaged as well.dealership was unable to tell me what was the cause of this event.sufficient coolant was present at failure.cause of overheat unknown.was it the thermostat, the water pump, the cooling fan..?no service light or dummy overheat light ever came on.no bcm history codes appear to exist related to overheating according to the dealership.it is strange that a car can cook itself just like that, with coolant in it.i have done extensive web research and i find several complaints of similar related cooling system mishaps, on honda civics.my personal opinion is that this deserves some investigation.i find it odd thatno definite answers are offered by the dealer on what went wrong.no history codes?is there adiagnostic fault signal from the temperature sensor, fan motor, water pump etc to the bcm?will (should) such signals set a code? very strange.iwas being charged $1400 for the repair, but there is a chance that the warranty might pick up the cost.i don't know this for sure yet since analysis of parts is been done at the dealership.i am sorry, excuse me but i smell a rat here.it was like pulling teeth to get the dealer to look deeper into this matter.i had to write a letter to the general manager of this dealership to get some real attention on this.come on, there is something wrong here. Updated 02/01/10.

1. No prior warning, other than a slight lurch while accelerating while merging onto the freeway earlier the same day. 2.&3. Transmission failure/ p0370 incorrect gear ratio resulting in a pulling lurching sensation while attempting to accelerate. Was unable to accelerate past 10mph without avoiding the lurching, had to pull off the road and be towed to the nearest residential area then get it towed in the morning to a mechanic within 3-4 miles of where i was parked.the check engine light was indeed on and was turned off once the error code was retrieved by the triple a mechanic, who recorded it as a p0370 incorrect gear ratio issue. As it is a transmission problem, honda's policy is to replace the transmission entirely. At this point, i had the vehicle towed to the nearest honda dealership, because it was a far more serious problem than i had anticipated. However, since the check engine light is off now and with it, the error code, honda's service center has stated that nothing can be done by them until the check engine light reappears and the lurching occurs again. I was told that whether that happened on a side street or freeway, it was of no concern to them and that the situation was out of their hands. The situation i have with my car mirrors the experience of the many 2001 honda civic owners, hence my concern and frustration with the airport marina honda dealership. My major concern is that i will have to force a lurching, jerking car safely off the freeway before honda wishes to deal with my vehicle again.

I drive a 2004 manual honda civic. I was driving down the freeway with cruise control set at about 70 mph. Suddenly, i felt my car speed up substantially and when i look at the speedometer i was traveling over 85 mph. I immediately canceled cruise control but my car continued to gain speed. I hit my brakes which caused my car to shudder violently. When my foot wasn't on the brakes, my car continued to quickly gain speed. I attempted to move the car into neutral and coast to a stop, but when i put the clutch in my rpm's rose to about 8,000 and didn't go down even when the car was in neutral. The car also continued to increase in speed even when it was in neutral. I moved back into 5th gear and continued down the highway going between 85-95 mph. I was able to maintain that speed only with my foot on the brakes. I placed a call to 911 and informed them that i couldn't stop my car. The 911 dispatcher contacted highway patrol who set out to catch me. Once a highway patrolman was behind me, i was instructed to shift into neutral, even though the rpm's would shoot up, and coast to a stop. The car shook almost uncontrollably while i was slowing down and even at a complete stop in neutral on the side of the road the rpm's were at about 8,000. We had the car towed to the honda dealership where they turned the car on and witnessed the rpm's immediately shoot up to 8,000 again. After looking under the hood they could not determine a cause for the incident. When they turned the car on again it started and ran normally. No significant damage to the car was done, and luckily the freeway was uncrowded so an accident was avoided.

Problems with main rear crank shaft seal on 2004 honda civic. *mr *sc

Engine head get so hot that it melts the spark plug to the head, even melting the hex nut on the spark plug.

I recently had a problem with my honda pilot. We took it to auto zone and had them hook it up to their diagnostics machine. The code "p1399" resulted. However, we were told that we had to contact honda to find out what the code meant because it was a generic code that honda puts out. I contacted the dealer and asked what the code meant, and i was told that i had to bring my vehicle down to them to put it on their machine: for $95.00. Honda has created their codes so that auto zone and other reasonably priced places can not assist honda owners. We are forced to pay this outrageous amount because only honda can tell us what is wrong with our vehicles. I did many hours of research on the internet and have found that this "p1399" code is quite common, as well as this kind of problem with the vehicle. The honda pilot has an ongoing problem with the engine light and vtm light coming on around 30-40 thousand miles. The engine misfires, and the vehicle feels like it is "chugging". It seems the timing of this problem is consistent with the warranty expiring. I have read that many people have had this same problem, and that honda is aware of the problem, yet have failed to address it. If you look at www.honda.org you will see the many complaints about this mechanic failure.i would like this problem to be investigated, and have honda be accountable for the faulty parts.

The advertised mpg of my honda hybrid for city driving is 48 mpg.i have never gotten better than 38 mpg.honda says there's nothing they can do about it and just advertising that it will get 48 mpg doesn't mean it will get that actual mileage.i believe it should at least be close, not 20% less than advertised. I paid extra to buy a hybrid automobile that is supposed to perform much better than it does.false or misleading advertising for any consumer puchase should not be permitted, especially when it is a major purchase for an average consumer to make.

Timing belt failure at 26,450 miles on engine startup.

I recently bought a 2004 honda civic lx in california.the night i drove home and pulled over, i heard a noise coming from the front of the car.i opened the hood and realized the noise has been coming from the belts.i took my car back to the dealer where i bought the car and they turned me away and said the parts are probably too new and they need some time to 'break in'.the mileage on my car just over 1000 miles and i am very concerned of that noise if it will cause any major consequences.please advise.

Consumer's 2004 civic pulled left. Accelerator would not engage when depressed and the vehicle would make a sudden jump.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the were unable to determine the cause of the problem.the consumer also experienced problems with the vehicle's stereo and gear system.the dealer repair the loose wire but the stereo's sound is affected when the vehicle hits bumps in the road.the consumer was told that the gear shift was replaced.the rubber seal on the windshield popped up.the paint on the back fender started to flake.the brake began to make noise even after the vehicle was parked.

I was driving on the interstate with my hands at the 3 and 9 position when i reached out with my extended index finger to activate the left side turn signal for a lane change. When i flicked the turn signal lever down the force was sufficient to turn off the rotary light control switch on the end of the stalk. This has happened at least six times. It was at night each time and i realized what had happened when the instrument lights suddenly went to full daytime brightness. The rotary control needs more resistance.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that the passenger side head light failed. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the wires had short circuited. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 88,000.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that the headlights failed on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was told the combination switch wiring harness needed to be replaced. The dealer stated there was nhtsa recall campaign id number: 12v136000 (exterior lighting: headlights: switch), but the 2004 model year was not included. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 67,000.

Driving at highway speed, moving from twilight to night, i suddenly noticed the headlights were not operating on either side. We pulled over to check the bulbs, fuses, and relays which all appeared in good condition. The parking lights still worked and we discovered the high beam lights still worked. We were in a rural area so there was no place to stop before our destination to either get repairs or wait for daylight, so we had to continue on with high beams. I called our honda dealer today (9/25/12) to report the problem, knowing that the headlight recall had recently been expanded to 2003 model year, but they were not helpful. They offered to charge me for repair but did not suggest how to report the defect to nhtsa or otherwise resolve the problem.

Honda headlights fog up inside the lens when raining or humid outside.this fogging of their headlights diminish the lighting output to non-existent. I almost crashed while driving at night because i couldn't see the road. I made honda aware and they do not want to address the issue. When calling honda customer service they say any honda dealer can fix the headlights under warranty. When i went to various honda dealers they said they have nothing to do with honda headlights because they are not manufacturers.

Honda civic lx 2004 4-dr sedan. Left turn signal not click back in subzero temperatures 20* and below. Honda service determined an internal failure of combination switch. Repair cost 185 plus tax. I declined repair as i consider it a factory issue. American honda motor company declined to pay for this repair, citing expired warranty and age of car; i disagree with them on both and hold them to pay for this repair. What lawyer would take this case? also at issue is a front compliance bushings cracked: $560 plus tax, and bgi--throttle body service $140 plus tax.again, ahmc considered bushings a maintenance issue & i disagree. I want this on record against ahmc for failure to pay for the bushing & turn signal repairs.it is unfortunate that no federal agency has the authority to order ahmc to pay for these repairs.

Headlights go off sometimes on their own. I think this is the same problem that caused a recall on the 2002-2003 civics. Apparently 2004's are having problems with this also. I have seen several complaints online.

Takata recall. My airbag light came on and then i saw the recall. My model should be recalled as well. Also exterior lighting is very dull both of these have been previously recalled. I was in park, started my car and the airbag light came on. Scanner says it's the inflator

The headlights on my car get a film over them that reduces visibility and cannot be removed by commercial products. I have to take my car to an auto body shop about every six months and have them use a power brush to remove the film. I see this condition on other cars and am wondering why there is no recall or other movement from manufacturers and/or the government to correct this potentially serious safety issue.

Low beam headlights stopped working, while driving vehicle.had to switch to high beams.dealer says it is an electronics problem

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. While driving at various speeds, the headlights became dim and hindered the contact's visibility. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the reflector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 224,000.

2004 honda civic. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle repairs *tgwthe left turn signal did not click back to its original position. The dealer found an internal failure in the combination switch.

The fuel gauge goes crazy for lack of a better term.one minute you're driving and the gauge shows you have a half tank of fuel.a few miles later your fuel light comes on and implies your out of gas.then when you fill-up, the car only needs a half tank of gas. As someone who does highway driving everyday, this can be unnerving.someone else who had the problem said a dealer said to fix the gas gauge would be comparable to brain surgery.to go into fix it would probably cause some other problem.

I have 2004 civic and i have a problem that is similar to one about the gas tank indicator. It started after my 30k service at the local honda dealership. But, i did not complain to them, as i really do not trust these people. (they had quoted me for a full service, and then called me at work to say they had to replace the cabin filter, so added another $80... Total to well over $500.) i knew if i went in with a problem they would take me for a ride again.anyway the problem went away after i added stp fuel cleaner a couple of times into a full tank. Wall mart has these for about $2.50 for three small bottles, each work a single clean.i love my honda. Nothing much wrong with the vehicle. It is just a good natured car, other than when trying to break gently at very low speed, as it has a tendency to jump.at low speeds, i now give my self space and i break with regular pressure.first, all cars will have some problems. Nothing mechanical can be perfect. So be aware of this when servicing a car.secondly, the problem is mainly with dealers. Honda ought to crack down on these crooks by having set rules posted on doors of dealerships over pricing, what ought to be in a service, when the regular service is, etc.even after the fuel affair was done with, i now watch how many miles i drive and fill it every 250 miles or so. That way it can never run out of gas. A few days ago i filled it up after 246 miles. It only needed 6.5 gallons to top it up! yes, that is over 39 mph on the highway mostly @ 65 mph.we as consumer should complain. We need honda to be more aggressive with standards. If honest people sell cars for honda, the image is that much better.honda ought to watch out. I have driven cars from the competition that is better and better. They are a major engine away from catching up, but in the area of customer service they are passing honda.

Whenever im driving my 04 pilot there is a loud and disturbing thumping sound coming from under the car..after speaking to honda and taking the car in 3 times i was told this is a normal characteristic of the car and there is nothing anyone can do.after researching this issue i see that there are many owners withthe same problem but yet no recall is even in sight.the reason for the fuel sloashing noise is due to the long narrow shape of the inside gas tank..

I have a 2004 honda civic sedani took my car to scott robinson honda in torrance california for a smog check without any mechanical problems my car passed the smog check without any problems. I left the facility one day later my car had the check engine light on. Went back to the dealerand they came up with a code that they said it needed a new catalytic converter . Ibecame skeptical about this recommendationso i started looking through the owner's manual and read that an engine light on could be possibly a loose gas cap. So i decided to buy a new original fuel cap i went to the dealers parts department and purchaseda new fuel pressure cap i noticed that the replacement cap did not look like the original but the part department person said that it would work just fine i then replaced the original fuel pressure cap. After a few days the check engine light turned offuntil a few dayslaterthe light came back onthen i check the fuel pressure cap and it is loose i tighten it and in another day the check engine light is off. And it keeps doing this until now sometimes on sometimes off i also see that my fuel level gauge erratic it has been like this sincei bought my car but i just did not think that this could be a problemi hope that something gets done about this thank you for your help.

Needed to replace fuel door cable.this seems to be a common occurrence.

First the check engine light comes on. Then the car started running poorly like it was starving for gas. Then it died. Seemed like the fuel pump was bad. I had it towed to honda to get it fix. When the service lady called she treated me like a child. She told me i was just low on gas like i am some kind of moron. I explained what had happened to her and she just shrugged me off and said there was nothing wrong.($80.00) next day check engine light comes on againand had another mechanic look at it. Checked the code and replaced the o2 sensor.(300.00) next day check engine light lights again and i take it back to the mechanic. Finally they listen to me and check the fuel pump. From what i learned there is a faulty plastic clip on the fuel pump that holds the pressure regulator to the pump. It unclipped itself and the connection separated. The mechanic talked to honda and the honda man said it was a pretty common occurrence lately. The fix, replace the fuel pump. ($330.00) so after 710.00 and an 80.00 tow the car is finally fixed.

First incident was when my gas gage marked 1/2 full, drove to work approximately 10 miles and the gage showed empty and the gas light came on.i knew i didn't use that much gas.the same day, the gage showed back at 1/2 full.several incidents followed where i would fill my gas tank and the gage would not move until later that day to show that i would put gas in my car.i would inform the people at the honda dealership where i get all my work done but there is only one time that was annotated on my records that they checked this at 15,000 miles.i have a couple of friends, husband and family members that know about this happening to my car because i always mentioned this to them and how the dealership never found nothing wrong with my car.it was very frustrating and i would never have my car below 1/2 a tank because i never knew if it was marking right or not.the last time i took it to the honda dealer to check it out because it was not working correctly, they told me it needed a battery, they did not mention anything about a fuel pump being wrong or bad, so i replaced the battery that cost me $149.00.i have all my work done at the honda dealer and have all the maintenance done there as well because i felt honda's were reliable cars.i was going to buy another honda civic but after this, i will never buy another honda car again and will inform the public about this incident so they can be aware of this.people that own honda's may not be aware of this little incident and may just ignore it which may cost them money later on.think of the thousands of dollars honda can make off of these people.i see so many hondas out there.if i had been aware of this, i would made sure my records were properly annotated.being a female, sometimes we're taken advantaged of.i do not feel i should have to pay for the fuel pump that needs replacing since i have done all the maintenance on my honda.

My 04 honda civic, fuel door latch would not open due to the latchnot working.this is the second time this happened. It cost me 160.00 to fix it and i believe its a defect in the car.

I stopped to get gas and i pushed the lever to access the gas cap.when i went outside it was not open.i tried multiple times to push the lever but nothing was happening.i went to a honda dealership (different from where i bought my car) and the technician was able to open it but now i can't close it until i replace the cable.the technician stated that this is a common problem on honda civics.i do not understand why there would not be a recall for this if honda is aware of this issue arising on multiple occasions.

On july 13, 2006 on my way home from a trip, i needed to refill my gas tank. I pulled the floor lever to release the flap that covers my gas cap and the lever did not work. Therefore, i was stranded 100 miles from home because it would not open. There is no manual release in the trunk. I had to be towed home as the aaa responder could not determine how to disengage the cable thereby releasing the flap. My car is less than 2 years old. When i spoke to the honda mechanic he implied that this is a defect with this dual release lever and that they have been seeing this problem regularly.it took the mechanic just a minute to disengage the cable so that i could access the gas cap while they ordered a new lever cable. I asked if i could have a key release flap and my request was denied. So now i could face this problem again in the future. Seems like honda should be required to either recall these cables or put a manual release in the trunk or send out a notice to all honda owners and towing companies like aaa advising them as to how they can disengage the cable and avoid being stranded.

My 2004 honda civic has approximately 38,000 miles on it.one day while driving home the check engine light comes on and tells me the oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1 heater sensor circuit is bad.the error code is p0135.make a long story short numerous people have ran into this problem which occurs right outside of warranty. Brought it into honda dealer and got charged $602.34 for a twenty minute job.i couldn't pass inspection with the check engine light on so i was forced to do it.i did not notice and decrease in fuel economy at all.

While driving on the highway, gas pedal linkage suddenly disengages causing rapid deceleration. This has happened for the third time. After two previous repairs, the honda dealer assured me this would not happen again.this is dangerous as i was in the fast lane when the car stops moving. I had to quickly engage the cruise control and maneuver off the highway using the accelerate and decelerate buttons.

This model car has a documented issue with the start clutch performance. This issue creates a safety hazard due to the unpredictable acceleration it causes. Despite re-surfacing procedures, the issue will return.this is not simply a wear issue, the part(s) and/or design are faulty. This is common knowledge among honda mechanics who are familiar with this model. Please let me know if you need more info or details.

Takata recall: top of fuel pump under back seat cracked on top with no other visible damage causing fuel to spray in tothe compartment under the seat resulting in strong fuel fumes and gas leaking under the car around the exhaust system which can result in a fire or health issues associated with gas fumes.

The ignition key cylinder was also replaced. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 25,000.

A metal component on the gas tank door cable rusted and i was unable to get the little door open to fill with gas.had to tear into the latch assembly and manually open the door by holding the cable in place while pushing on the latch.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The front passenger door handle broke in july 2009. In november 2009, the front driver door handle and the rear driver side door handle broke internally. He contacted the manufacturer who took note of the call but stated that they could not assist him since it was not a wide spread issue. The contact will have the vehicle inspected by a dealer. The current mileage was approximately 42,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Front passenger inner door handle is chrome plated.chrome plating has begun to peel off and has created sharp edges with the only remedy being replacement of the part.sharp edges have given "paper" cuts, drawing blood, to a passenger opening the vehicle door from the inside.vehicle is 2 years old, but over mileage for warranty coverage.due to safety issue, we believe honda should pay for repair as this also is not a "wear item".appeals to honda customer service have gone unanswered and honda care extended warranty refuses to cover.

Dt*:the contact stated the doors would not unlock from the inside.when the button was pushed the latch would move up and down but the door would not open.the unlock button on the key fob was pushed multiple times and the doors eventually opened.this is an intermittent problem and the vehicle has not been seen by the dealership.updated 4/19/2006 -

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic ex sedan. The contact stated that the trunk would not remain latched and would open independently while driving at various speeds. The failure had been ongoing since purchase. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred shortly after and while attempting to close the trunk, the latch fractured from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. He called the manufacturer but received no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 78,000.

Was driving down the street, came to a stop light then the vehicle would not go. When i hit the gas all it did was rev up. I shut the car off and restarted it was able to start moving then the car would not shift into second gear. I had the car towed and was informed the transmission was gone.

The car transmission is slipping. Sometimes it works and sometimes the engine is fine, but when i accelerate the car does not move forward right away. Engine light stays on. It has plenty of fluid, but the transmission does not engage.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic.while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle vibrated excessively and hesitated when the accelerator pedal was depressed.the failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection twice and the transmission fluid was changed both times.the technician speculated that the failures could be contributed to the starter clutch and valve.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 71,716 and current mileage was 110,000.

I have had on going problems with the transmission, started as a judder when accelerating but after the dealership burnished the transmission a few times and changed some parts as per service bulletin because this year car is know to have problems with transmission. The judder has now become a hesitation when trying to accelerate and sometimes will do it multiple times causing the car not to accelerate properly.now that the only thing left to do is change the transmission honda says they cannot do anything because they cannot duplicate the problem.i agree that it happens only occasionally but it is still dangerous because when you expect the car to accelerate and it does not it can be dangerous.especially since it is a know problem with this year model but honda will not do a recall, i guess so many people have to get into an accident before something is done.

Had problems with the transmission slipping for a couple of months.then while accelerating into traffic it decided to stop working completely and leave me stranded across the middle of a 4 lane highway with oncoming traffic.i have since replaced the transmission and within 2 weeks the new transmission is doing the same thing.

The car makes noise when car is parked on neutral, the car manual it also makes the noise louder on first gear like at 2500 rpm. Sounds like the input shaft bearing.

Started hearing noises coming from the transmission when i shifted into 1st and 2nd gear.sounds like a bad bearing possibly, i'll find out when i take it in to the shop for sure.after doing some research it is apparent that at my mileage it is more than common for honda's transmissions to start failing.disheartening to find out honda doesn't help with goodwill repairs for this well documented trend of transmission problems.thinking that buying another honda recently may have been a bad idea.

When i purchased this vehicle, i changed the ownership information with american honda. I later checked if there were any open notices or recalls. Honda told me there was none. However, this vehicle had a notice alerting owners to cvt belt slippage. Honda sent this notice to the previous owner. When the owner changed, honda should have considered this notice open again. Sending a notice to a previous owner does not inform the owner and the purpose of this kind of notice is to ensure the owner has the information.this failure resulted in my vehicle's transmission failing in operation. Had i received the notice, i would have known the slight shudder was a serious transmission problem and the vehicle could have been repaired safely, rather than failing catastrophically on the road.honda needs to fix their notification system to consider all notices (unless the problem is repaired) re-opened on change of ownership. Otherwise, the purpose of the notification system is defeated, possibly leading to catastrophic failure in the failed (as it did in my case) or worse.i discussed this issue with honda and they maintained that once a notice was sent on an issue, the notice was closed with respect to that vehicle. This makes no sense. The purpose of a notice is to alert the owner, not the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving, the transmission and check engine warning lights illuminated and the vehicle started to shake and independently decelerate. Additionally, while accelerating the vehicle was skipping gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the transmission failure was due to a faulty cvt skipping or an egr valve and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Transmission slipping on 2004 honda civic hybrid.i have been having issues with my transmission slipping on civic hybrid since about 30k miles.i now have 86k miles.the 1st time i brought it into my honda dealer in south charleston wv the mechanics said honda said to flush the transmission fluid twice to fix the issue.they did and everything seemed to be ok.then at about 60k the same thing happened and the honda dealers mechanic said honda said they knew about the problem and came up with a "new transmission formula" to fix this.i live off a major road which is 45mph and on a blind peak of a hill.when i step on the gas i need the car to move and not slip like it has in order to avoid on coming traffic.i noticed the same thing happening at 85k miles and brought it back in.this time they said they couldn't get the thing to register any faults.now at 86k my transmission light went on and i have been noticing the slipping getting worse.i have the extended warranty good up to 100k miles but feel this to be a major safety hazard and cover up by honda to avoid paying to replace all these defective transmissions.i will be bringing my car back into the dealer over the next few days.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. While driving uphill at 30 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle did not accelerate. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The input shaft bearing or throw bearing in vehicle is making a loud clicking/rattling noise through all gears. I'm leaning more towards the input shaft bearing being gone or shot. A lot of talk on the web about these going in the earlier civics. More noticeable in 1st-3rd. I've found through other websites that they is a recall on vin specific honda civic up to the year 2004.

Problems with transmission and tie rod bolts were loose.*mrthe consumer took the vehicle to the dealer because there was a noise in the passenger front wheel and the gears were grinding when moving form second to third gear.the technician told the consumer that the vehicle's tires were bald therefore she was racing the car.he went on to say that he would not check the transmission unless she agreed to pay for it.the consumer appealed the decision of the dealer and contacted the manufacturer.the struts were loose on the right side.the tie rod bolts were loose which was probably the cause of the bald tires.the manufacturer refused to honor the warranty for the transmission although the vehicle was only six months old.

At 6x,000 miles my honda should not be making this noise! the noise is a terrible clicking noise when the clutch is up and gets extremely bad when accelerating. I'm embarrassed to let anyone drive in my car. I bought this car to save money not to spend it! if i wanted to waste money repairing cars i would have bought european! i guess i'm not taking any girls out on dates. Thanks honda!!

The transmission dash light came on then the car jumped hard out of 2nd gear and into third. Then the car was jerking like someone was pumping the brakes hard so i tried shifting to 4th and the jerking got worse with a grinding noise causing the car to be extremely hard to control and keep on the road almost causing me to hit a telephone pole at about 40 mph it all just happened with out warning or any indication very unsafe and extremely frightening.

My car started making a growling noise when accelerating. I came to find out from research that it was the transmission input shaft bearing. I have seen and heard many other honda civic owners with the same problem.

I have a 2004 honda civic ex. Driving to glendale (1 hour from where i live) in the city i started noticing the transmission was jerking. Shortly after the engine light came on. Going up a hill my transmission wasn't working anymore and was revving without going into gear. I was in motion on a hill on a very tight road where only 1 car can pass at a time. And cars were parked on the side of the street. I almost crashed into the parked cars because i could't control the jerking of the car and the transmission slipping. I had cars coming towards me and had the car stalled on the road and had to block the traffic for 30 min before my friends could come and help me move the car. There was little amount of space and parking and had to push the car for a while before finding a parking spot. The car has only 123,000 miles, the transmission fluid is fresh and clean and never had any transmission problems. Within 15 min the whole transmission blew up! i really hope honda can take care of this problem because i see that there are multiple complaints about honda's transmission failing in these honda civics between 2000 and 2004.

My transmission in my 2004 honda civic 5 speed manual ex model is making a grinding noise and causing the car to decelerate faster than normal , it almost caused a lady to hit me in the read end. It is causing a jerking , lurching of the car while driving. I took it to a local shop and they said it was something in the transmission and it was also causing the drive axes to wobble causing the rotors to shimmy the tires.took the car to honda dealer this morning and they said from the sound and a test drive it was the transmission input shaft bearing bad. Honda customer service said they had recalls but not on my vin number.this can cause the transmission to lock up while driving and is very unsafe. I was told not to drive the car and have parked it. Honda won't acknowledge the problem but online forums are loaded with 200-2005 civic transmission failures.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic hybrid. The contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle started to jerk violently and hesitated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the starting clutch was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 108,000.

My 2004 honda civic hybrid started making a whirring noise. I took in to honda and they ran a ($110.00) diagnostic and told me i need a new transmission that would cost me $4300.00. I did some research and found out that they knew there was a problem with this transmission. The dealer revised the price to $3200.00 and told me honda would only pay for half. I told them i want them to replace the transmission since they knew they sold me a defective one and have done nothing about it. They tell me the transmission could go out at any time. They also claim it is not dangerous to me since if i drive it i would have time to pull to the side of the road when it goes out. I believe that is outrageous. I want to resolve this before there is any injuries or collisions as a result of this defective transmission.

Faulty cvt transmission, slipping and judder beginning and during acceleration.sometimes engine stalls while braking to a stop. Recall only fix problem temporary, this info. Can be obtain in honda cvt forum with other customers with similar cvt issues.

I parked my honda civic in my drive way; put the car in park and engaged the emergency break. 30 minutes later my son cam e home and discovered the car resting on a very large decorative boulder at the end of the drive way with the front bashed in - it rolled appx. 10 feet while in park with the break on. A tow truck was called, and when the driver went to secure the car on the trailer, it rolled again (in park with the break on). The honda dealer, russell of sherwood - said that it was impossible and that it couldn't have happened - and still indicate that it didn't happen - which it did. The entire front of the car (bumper area) has to be replaced. We have contacted honda corp., and the complaint is being filed in arbitration with our insurance company. My next step is to contact the attorney generals office here in arkansas.

We have had both the battery and the transmission fail.the battery failed at 82k miles, just past the 80k mile warranty.now, at 91k miles, the transmission needs to be replaced.in reviewing our records, it seems that transmission problems began at 51k miles, as a "surging" when we were on the interstate such that the engine would rev while we were coasting.the dealer couldn't duplicate the issue and the stopped (for whatever reason).transmission problems began again at 71k miles as the shuddering.dealer burnished, and then we got the recall notices at 74k miles.it began as "surging" when we were on the interstate, the engine revving even when we weren't accelerating at 51k miles.then the shuddering started at 71k miles.we received the recall notices at 74k miles.shuddering started again at 91k miles & we are being told it needs a new transmission.the dealer said that honda america will pay for the recall if the car is under 100k miles, but only once.if this problem reoccurs, isn't it obvious that it's by fault of honda?and that these transmission problems occur every 20k miles?this is a common problem that seems to demand a recall on the part of honda america.

I had a crack through my transmission gear from the inside diameter all of the way out and 75% fractured from one side of that cog cylinder to the other.i replaced part # 23451-pdm-a00 and 23531-p24-j00 at a cost of $2241.75 at the shop and another $261.93 in car rental fees.the failure was first checked in at the shop on 9/14/2010 at 60,715 miles but it was cracked and making the noise since approximately 55,000 miles.shop manager told me he had not seen a gear crack like mine had in 15 years and especially at 60,000 miles and that there was no question it had been a manufactures defect.

Failure of honda america to fix a faulty transmission. Charging for diagnostics of faulty transmission, transmission slips, judders, and seems to be failing.transmission is worst after they said it was repaired.this is not an isolated case and apparently a manufacturing defect that american honda should be required to fix regardless of mileage knowing that it is a problem which they are avoiding to fix.maybe you should verify that the problem is fixed in there newer cvt's otherwise deaths may or will occur.the vehicle is a 2004 honda civic hybrid, searching on the internet there is thousands of complaints about the cvt transmission problems.if the refuse to fix or fail to fix, they should be held accountable and be forced to repair or replace the transmissions.

Erratic transmission shifting. Possible lock-up concern. Also, while driving i heard a pop while shifting(automatic transmission). Left front squeaking, clunking sound.suspension?strut?bushing? was taken to honda dealer in maryland and left for a couple of days on two ocassions and sound was duplicated with a technician on board, but when i went to pick up the vehicle i was told that since it could not be duplicated again in the shop, nothing was done.

Purchased new 2004 honda civic ex 2dr coupe - surges forward and jolts you at low speed (while slowing down).happens mostly when descending down hills.very extreme if under the load of the ac.the jolt is very distracting and scary. Dealership claims it is normal and part of the grade logic.

The cvt's honda is using in its 2004 civic hybrid is defective. We are going to have to replace the transmission after only 70k miles (just out of warranty). Numerous other cici hybrid owners complaining of same problem (shuddering and sudden rpm changes).

Transmission slips whenever you take off it has been doing this for 2 years after you change the trans. Fluid it stops for a few thousand miles then starts again. I don't think you should have to change the fluid more than the engine oil it is getting expensive!!!!

I was driving in the morning commute as usual, left lane, stop and go traffic. After, some slow down i accelerated but the car did not respond tried to shift to the lower gear did not work ether.i had to cut through two lanes of traffic (barely missed a car) to get to the shoulder.the transmission is out and doesn't respond to any gear (r, d, s, l).the engine revs when put on any gear, but the car won't move.the 2004 honda civic hybrid has around 20,000 miles. I have been browsing chat rooms and have feeling that the dealer would charge the full price for repair, unless there is a recall.according to the information that i gather, there is a large number of complaints about honda hybrid cvt.

2004 honda civic hybrid cvt transmission shudder at 110,000. Had shaft burnished and fluid replaced.

Transmission delays applying power, shudders, then engages from stop.

Sudden acceleration from start.happens randomly.car goes out of control.tapping on accelerator or brake brings it under control.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic hybrid. While driving at speeds of 10 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not increase in speed and began jerking. The dealer advised the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 127,000 and current mileage was 148,000.

Continuous transmission slippage and related issues with my honda civic hybrid.

Transmission seems to be slipping quite a bit.

I have a 2004 honda hybrid that i bought new from an atlanta, ga dealership. It has 106000 miles. It has had 1 transmission replaced, motor mounts, clutch and the same problems still exist. It slips, shakes like it is going to explode even though i take off gently and slowly. I was at a redlight 12-24-09 when i attempted to turn onto i75 and it "slipped" so badly it wouldn't even go. The car behind me barely missed slamming into me. Before this daily it is slipping on hills, revving unexplainable and creaking as if it is going to fall apart. I have had it regularly maintained at the cleveland tn dealership where i live. Now i am out of warranty and cannot afford to take it in. Itjust had the clutch and motor mounts replaced 2 weeks ago!.. I am a hospice rn and drive my car many miles. I am afraid i am going to kill someone because of the danger of the slipping, ect.

Slippage of transmission when starting on an incline driving a 2004 civic hybrid.

My 2004 transmission went out in a turn through a non stop light controlled intersection. I was almost broadsided by an upcoming car, that would have missed me if the transmission didn't fail. I found a safety recall for the same model year that was put out while my car was in the dealer's possession. I am being told that it is my problem, and unless i cough up $8,000 to replace it with a new transmission i am screwed. For a rebuilt transmission the cost would be $2,000, but it is only guaranteed for 1 year. On top of all this honda won't release the patents so that you can buy the parts needed to fix it on your own. Sounds a lot like fraud to me! why wont nhtsa force honda to do the right thing and recall these vehicles? does someone really have to be killed, maimed or injured to make companies repair faulty vehicles?

2004 honda civic hybrid bucks and jolts at low speeds.at its 30k mile service, was told it is a second gear transmission problem that honda would fix 'at no cost to me one time in good faith'the free fix happened b/c the service rep (at a honda service center) said he sees a lot of these transmission issues and he called honda (i assume honda corporate) and they offered the (free to me) fix.

When accelerating transmission shutters was fixed by dealer about 12 mo ago and has started again. They replaced clutch plate. Also no permanent fix for catalytic converter. Now after changing the components for the cruise control it still cuts off with no warning.each of these items have started around 70,000 miles except for cruise control which started within the past 3-4 mo.

Transmission slippage sound, requires transmission changes every 3,000 miles and this still doesn't completely eliminate the sound.honda won't do anything to actually fix the problem for good.

Transmission slips in 2004 honda civic hybrid and honda refuses to repair the issue. Documentation of a foreign recall was found for the vehicle. Transmission failure will lead to a stranded situation which could lead to dangerous situations.

2004 honda civic hybrid, the transmission is shot. I've already replaced the starter kit, the cv and some other stuff. Now, at 113,000 the transmission is whining and juttering. This car is a lemon. I hear that honda had a recall on the hybrid transmission in japan, so they should have one here, too.*ln

2004 honda civic rolls back in park.

Since i bought this car all i have had were problems.the 1st problem was that the odometer was going more miles than i was driving. Sometimes it was even right on the dot.i tested it against my 00 civic and 3 other cars. My civic was consistently off on trips over 20 miles.the first dealer could not duplicate it just driving around the block. I took it there 4 times within the first couple of months.i also had to get an oil change every 3.5 weeks because i had gone 5000 miles supposedly.the last time it was at that dealer there was a new service manager who's excuse for what was wrong with it was that i had somehow switched it from mi to km and that i needed to get out the manual and figure out how to fix it. During this time i had written honda customer service and they had all kinds of different ideas what was wrong with it and how it was my fault, not an actual problem.the next week i took it to another dealer who right away found there was a problem. When they called honda to figure out what to do since they had never seen this they were told not to do anything. They advised i come back and meet with the honda rep.i did and they tried running tests, checking tire pressure and everything came up ok. Someone had mentioned it could be an electrical problem. As time went on other things stopped working right in the car.the interior lights buzzed when they were on. The car has had trouble starting, temperature did not affect it. Turning the heat and a/c knob will change the station on the radio. The cigarette lighter will stop working for 5 minutes then come back on.more recently i've been having transmission problems(auto).the car won't shift, revs high, the jolts and w/cruise set it just accelerates for no reason. I will not buy another honda.

My 2004 honda civic hybrid has 65k plus miles.the problem began with a slight hesitation upon accelerating from a stop. I chalked it up to minor wear.the hesitation has gotten progressively worse. Now it shudders (or 'judders' as i've heard it called) on a regular basis;the severity andduration have increased. It has gotten to the point where i don't feel safe pulling out into traffic without more room between cars than i've typically needed.

My 2004 honda civichas the same acceleration problem as toyota. Braking for a light or stop sign, the engine rpm is about 2000 and car is almost unstoppable. This is a random phenomenon, and is unpredictable. Contacted honda but they claimed they never heard of this problem. This resulted in bumper damage twice.

Transmission input shaft bearing failure. No significant event lead up to the failure. I have not had it repaired. The mechanic said it is $3500 to rebuild. Is a daily problem. Never goes away. A mechanic at honda told me it is the input shaft bearing and i need a new transmission. He said this is common with hondas from mid 1990's to 2004. He said it was bound to happen regardless of maintenance & good driving. Harsh grinding noise when driving car or car is idling. Noise stops when clutch is engaged. Difficult at times to put into gear. I have to ease it into gear at times.i fear for my life for when the bearing completely fails and the transmissions falls apart. If i am driving with other cars behind me, i may be ran into when my car comes to a stop. I am afraid to leave town in my car. I get anxiety every time i drive it.

On my honda civic ex model with the manual drivetrain, the drivetrain will make a grinding noise, while shifting into 3rd gear at 4000 rpm's or higher. I brought my car back to the dealer and it was fixed, now 8,000 miles later, i'm having a reacurring problem.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that when shifting into reverse, the transmission made a grinding noise. Transmission failure increased the risk of a vehicle crash. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a technician replaced various components in the transmission; however, after the failure resurfaced. The failure mileage was 12000 and the current mileage was 71000.

My airbag/seat belt light stays on constantly

Safety restraint system (srs) warning light came on.read online searches and saw that owners of the 7th generation honda civics from 2001-2004 have similar issues.

Srs (airbag) light remains on. Seat belt tensioner requires replacement. The srs airbag light controls not only airbag functionality, but also seat belt tensioners; the things that hold you in during a crash. Honda will not replace the seat belt tensioner.

Vehicle driver side seat belt does not retract. After airbag light came on seat belt will not retract into the seat belt retainer. I feel very dangerous and honda will not address the issue. Stating it is not under warranty.

When i get in my vehicle to drive i am not being protected properly by my seat belt equipment.there is no fail safe design to prevent injury or death when the vehicle begins to move in the event of human error.design directly allows human error to disable the entire seat belt device.even in the event of a primary design failure there is no back up.the risk of injury and death is exponential based on population and demographic.this is a serious flaw in safety design for a product that is used by the public and is quite contrary to the methods employed by a theme park as one example which contain other forms of transportation available to the public. Events:1. I enter my vehicle2. I turn on ignition.3. I place vehicle in drive.4. I operate the vehicle to my destination.failure occurs 20% of the time if i do not notice the seat belt alarm or if i forget to fasten my seat belt.failure of seat belt device to protect me in the event i forget results in possible risk of injury or death while operating vehicle. For whatever reason i sometimes do not notice the seat belt alarm.for whatever reason i sometimes forget to fasten my seat belt.for whatever reason my vehicle design allows me to operate the vehicle unsafely putting me and others at risk.corrective action.writing this complaint.

Dashboard seatbelt restraint light came on 9 months into ownership of a used 2004 honda civic sedan - took in for state inspection but will not pass state inspection without repair.i was informed it is the driver seatbelt switch that needs repair, cost $260.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The supplemental restraint system light remained illuminated. The manufacturer stated that the vin wasn't included in the honda voluntary service warranty extension 06-009 for the supplemental restrain system trigger;therefore, they would not assist with the repair. The vehicle wasn't repaired. The failure and current mileages were 91,500.

Driver side sear belt does not retract.it has been replaced before by the dealer.front mud flaps are to low andare damages and need replacing.electric plug socket does not work(lighter and cell phone)

Srs light in my honda civic came on and stayed on. Dealer said it's the seatbelt tensioner which seems to be common in many hondas. Why no recall?

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated the steering wheel locked without warning while entering the drive way and the steering wheel could not be turned. A private mechanic inspected the vehicle and located the failure inthe ignition switch. The mechanic was able to place the vehicle in neutral gear into neutral in order to move the vehicle to a safe area. The contact also stated the drivers seat belt retracting system failed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 158,000.

The rear passenger seat belt unlatched by it self automatically. While driving the consumer could hear a noise.the seat belts would not stay latched. *sc

The consumer was involved in an accident, the driver side air bag did not deploy, but the passenger air bag deployed and the seat broke from the base.

I noticed metal bars sticking out of the headrests of my 2004 honda civic.these are the bars that give the headrest its structure, but there is supposed to be cushioning that protects the bar from coming in contact with the driver's or passengers' skull.whatever cheap cushioning once existed has worn away and the bars are even visibly protruding from the headrests.i filed a complaint with honda but no action was taken.i am terrified to think of the possible consequences that might befall a person who is unaware of the cheap lack of cushioning in their headrests.one can only imagine what would happen in a collision of accident, or any other occurrence in which a person's head would slam into metal bars instead of safe cushioning.death and serious injury are certainly in the ballparks of this negligence.

The head rest of our 2004 honda civic lx has the metal frame exposed through the foam.the metal frame is exposed in both head rests of front seats.we are in the process of checking to see if a recall has been made.the concern is if a wreck occurs, the metal frame would cause severe head trauma or even death.

My fiance has been involved in two rear-end collisions, both in honda civics, over the last year (the last accident happened on 11/12/04), and in both cases, the driver's seat back broke so that she was thrown back at a greater angle than one would have expected. The first accident required her to have a painful back operation, with various vertebrates being fused. This cannot be a coincident that her seat back broke on both occasions.

My husband got into a car accident on september 24th 2004 in our 2004 honda civic dx, he was rear ended and his seat broke and turned 30 degrees towards the passengers seat and now he has extensive injurues to his back, and is undergoing extensive medical treatment and therapy.

Driver's seat began to move while driving the vehicle. Took car to dealer who reported seat bushing are worn already. Car has only been driven 10k km ( 6k miles). Parts are back ordered so seat is still loose. A potential problem if invovled in collision before seat is repaired. Honda issued sb624365 back in july 2001 for a similiar complaint, as yet no sb for 2004 model year issued.

While driving 2004 honda accord-not a hybrid, smelled odor of something burning, car seat warmer was set low, turned off warmer, smell disappeared, but seat continued warm. On 2/22 & 2/23 while seat warmer switch off car seat heated. 2/23 brought car to honda had warmer disconnected. Co-workers know of similar incidents different car makes that have caused burns to occupants or electical fires, is there a defect in these devices or trend of similar reports.

I was slowingdown to 15-20 mph to be ready for a red light. When the distance between me and the front car was about 20 feet, i hit my brake pedal to make a complete stop, all the sudden, my car was speeding up and hit the car in front. And bounced back stopped. I was wondering, "why was the car speeding up when i hit the brake, ?" thought i mistakenly hit the gas pedal, to test if my brake was good, i hit the brake one more time, the exact same thing happened again, my car was speeding up and hit the front car very hard again and damaged both cars. If this had happened on highway, i would have been killed.i just changed my brakes at honda dealer about half years ago.i bought this car new in end of 2003. This is the first time for the brake trouble.the damage will cost me at least $4000. Repair , value decrease and insurance . I would like to know a place i can get compensation from the manufacture.

Same braking issue reported with the prius.when braking, if you go over a pothole, railroad tracks, etc., it feels like the brakes aren't stopping the vehicle.it happens every time you stop while going over an imperfection in the roadway.there are no consequences if you quickly take your foot off the brake and reapply.this has happened since i purchased the vehicle and i thought it was a standard side effect of driving a hybrid.also, in rain or slick conditions, the electric motor kicks in provides additional power at the wrong time.again, careful driving keeps this from being a serious issue.if you quickly take your foot off the accelerator and then reapply, the issue resolves itself.this has also been happening since i purchased the vehicle new.

Brake pedal travels several inches prior to brakes engaing.car was delivered like this from dealer who said there was nothing wrong with the brakes.

2004 honda civic customer states that her car was totaled due to brake failure**ccthe consumer stated that the car suddenly accelerated and did not cease to stop when the brakes applied, therefore crashing into a metal barrier at alarming speed.

While driving 30 mph, the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably.the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the brakes needed to be replaced due to worn parts.please provide any additional information.

While driving in snowdriver noticed on more than one occasion that when applying the brakespedal went to the floor. Vehicle slid on its own, then stopped.finally, the vehicle started, slowing down and coming to a complete stop. Driver took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, but mechanic could not duplicatethe problem.

When driving at low speeds vehicle surged forward. The vehicle suddenly accelerated , brakes failed and vehicle hit brick wall head on. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. *tc

The steering wheel would shimmy when braking from 40-60 mph. The dealer was notified. Dealer informed that they were aware of the problem concerning the front rotors. Please provide any further information.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph the steering wheel locked causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a ditch landing on its side. There were no injuries. The police were not notified. The vehicle was towed to her residence and will be driven to the dealer at a later date. The dealer and manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was unknown. Updated 03/29/11*lj updated 05/26/11updated 05/31/11 updated 1/4/11

Purchased 2004 civic vp new (this is my 4th honda civic). From day 1, there has been a noticeable vibration/shimmy in steering wheel and front end. Upon visit to dealer, i was told that the vibration/shimmy could not be duplicated, but oem tires (dunlop sp20) could be separating. During a subsequent visit, vibration/shimmy was acknowledged. Dunlop dealer said that the tires are okay, but 2 front wheels were bent. Honda dealer replaced 2 front wheels and remounted/rebalanced the original tires. All tires were rebalanced and rotated. Vibration/shimmy persists and continues to be noticeable at all speeds. Steering wheel vibration/shimmy is observable and felt when turning the wheel, regardless of vehicle speed. Dealer suggested test drive of identical 2004 civic vp; i, and the dealer service manager, noticed the same issues with this civic. Problem remains unresolved.

The first time during the 1st week of august 08, my wheel locked. I was in the process of turning into a parking lot and there was no oncoming traffic. Aaa tow truck guy found loose nut on power steering pump (right next to belt) right away and tightened it for me. It was a temp fix so i could drive to get service instead of tow. Unfortunately, i don't think my honda service people didn't check it like i requested cause it came loose again (1 wk later)...locking my wheel. I thank god i wasn't on a freeway or making a sharp turn around other vehicles. Honda mechanics don't understand why this nut is coming loose. They claim they re-tightened ("torqued") it but i'm scared. It could come loose again!!!! still in process of having problem corrected.

Passenger sliced finger open on chrome plating which appears to have began delamination.chrome plating is on exit handle inside of the vehicle.very similar to case 10526049.

I took my vehicle into a honda dealership to get my left fender repaired.when the fender was removed, mechanics noticed that the bumper reinforcement was not on the vehicle.the vehicle is a certified used vehicle and was to be in no accidents.i had to pay for the parts out of my pocket to have the car up to honda standards.

Water leakage in passenger cabin in the front, left passenger side footwell area. When i bought the car 4 years ago, it was hard to confirm that there was a leak as it could have been melted snow/ice trudged in from outside (winter) or water transferred in by shoes (summer). When it rained there was always a damp area on the carpet, but only recently when we were experiencing heavy rainfalls which confirmed there was a leak. The local dealer has traced the leak to the area of the left fender/firewall area where the seams have come apart. I have brought the car in to the dealers bodyshop to address the problem. They said that they have corrected the problem; however it remains to be confirmed. Mileage: 7,937 miles.

The head rest of our 2004 honda civic lx has the metal frame exposed through the foam.the metal frame is exposed in both head rests of front seats.we are in the process of checking to see if a recall has been made.the concern is if a wreck occurs, the metal frame would cause severe head trauma or even death.

Blue 2004 honda civic paint is peeling and blistering off the top of car. I have seen many other blue honda's with this same problem. I have been calling honda for months trying to get info and i was just told there is no recall on it. My area dealer told me they would give me a credit for $600 to paint the areas but i still have to pay $1000 out of my pocket.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated that the driver's side door could not be opened from the interior or the exterior of the vehicle. The passenger's side door also could not be opened when using the key. The contact would have to enter and exit the vehicle through the trunk. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but due to the mileage, she was referred to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 215,000.

I and a relative have a 04,03 honda civic and we seem to have the same problem.the hoods of our cars are rusting.i live in san antonio, tx, and she lives in atlanta, ga.did we get bad paint jobs.

Paint and clear coat peeling down to the metal.read there is a class action lawsuit against honda due to paint and clear coat on some models that include my civic.

I was driving in the left lane to go straight at an intersection. A gentleman who was in the right lane attempted to move into the left lane and subsequently hit the front passenger side of my vehicle damaging the passenger side door, front fender and hood.

The clearcoat has entirely burned away from the roof, hood and trunk and is spreading to the side panels resulting in a milky, splotchy appearance. I'm not sure how much damage this will do or if it will shorten the life of the vehicle but i do know it's unacceptable and it looks very damaged.

Exterior paint is flaking off and is down past its clear coat.the most concentrated area this is occurring/has occurred is on the outside of the truck lid in addition to the outside roof of the car. I'm not sure if this is only occurring in certain colors or with certain paint honda used but, fiji blue pearl is the color of my civic and this has been an ongoing issue since around 2011 and now rust in beginning to appear in areas.please advise.

Chrome plating on drivers door handle lever peeling off.daughter cut her finger onsharp plating while opening door.

Paint started to fade in 2011 and this year it had progressed rapidly. The whole back half of the roof has faded to the metal and it's starting to on the trunk. Also the clear coat is flaking off on the rear bumper. I've investigated this matter multiple times and the local honda dealership does nothing. So i did some research online and come to find put i'm not the only one. Hundreds of thousands of honda owners have had the same exact problem. I just would like to get the paint corrected the way it was supposed to be done when i bought the car brand new 10 years ago. I thought hondas were supposed to last a "lifetime" right? not six years.

Paint began peeling from sides of rear window, then from side windows on the rear. Now the roof paint is bubbling.

2004 honda civic.consumer writes in regards to vehicle squealing noises repair and unsatisfactory customer service at dealership. The dealer informed the consumer the wheel bearing needed to be replaced and in order to fix the problem, the tires needed to be rotated and the transmission needed to be flushed.the consumer returned to the dealer, because the noise was still present.the dealer informed the consumer, she needed to drive the vehicle more.the consumer returned to the dealer several more times.the dealer then claimed the noise was due to a loose wheel bearing and it was tightened. However, the noise was still present.the consumer returned to the dealer six times, with the same problem.

I wish nhtsa had the authority to order honda to repair for free the left turn signal arm and control arm bushings on my civic; the warranty expired before the problem developed on the left turn signal and honda considers the control arm bushings as maintenance items not covered under warranty; they are hard rubber and wear out after a few years--i was never told this at the time i bought this car! i will try to send paperwork to nhtsa in support of my complaint against honda. I was also stuck with a $1400 repair bill after the gas cap lock stuck and wouldn't open (again, after the warranty expired!), needing an emergency service because i could not gas up the car! again, nhtsa should fine honda for each incident and order them to reimburse me in full for these uncalled-for repair bills! my maintenance and repair costs for this civic are far more than the book value for this car.

From the day that consumer bought the vehicle there has been an annoying vibration in the steering wheel.vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that the vibration was normal.

Problems with an opaque film that developed on the windows while driving. *mr (inside of the windows)the problem was suggested to be the result of polymer vaporsout gassing from the plastics used for the vehicles interior.this film would obstruct the consumer vision almost completely blinding the consumer at night or during sunlight.honda suggested that this was normal and there is nothing they could do to remedy this problem.there was also a clunking noise when the brakes were applied while going over bumps. *sc

2004 honda civic drifts to the side while driving.all of the uneven, worn out tires were replaced as well as the rims.*mreven though the tires and rims were replaced, it still did not correct the problem.

Right lower control arm failed after 79,000 miles.car suddenly stopped on city street after making a right hand turn from a stop at a stop light. Civic immovable after unexpected failure.traffic was light and slow due to stop light and midmorning travel.what happens at highway speed with this failure?three weeks prior to failure, car was serviced at honda dealership where car was purchased.oil was changed and tires checked.no abnormal tire wear was noted.the car handled properly with no indication of misalignment.car has been routinely serviced.after failure lower control arm was replaced.it failed three inches from one end.it broke through completely.it did not fail at a connection/wear point.there is no other obvious sign of damage to the part.due to the failure, the control arm, sway bar, axle, strut, knuckle, bearing, and hub were replaced by a honda dealership for $2500.all parts except axle are in possession of owner.honda claims no obvious sign of factory defect and out of warranty.service department knew of no test for existing control arms to assure safety.car is driven on paved roads of reasonable condition to work in baltimore or on highway.tires have only been replaced due to normal wear.

The front struts of my vehicle are leaking due to premature failure, which makes the vehicle difficult to control when a bump or slight ding in the road is traveled over.will get the struts replaced, so that my vehicle doesn't fall apart, but it's going to be very .*la

There is a recurring popping noise coming from the front of the vehicle, which is causing the steering to feel loose. Took vehicle to dealer for check up and repair of the struts for the third time.

Ball bearings on both front wheels failed.caused noise when driven, when vehicle was taken to the dealership they said this normally should not happen, it was just a part that happened to fail.paid $722.20 to have parts replaced.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 65 mph on normal road conditions a staggering motion was observed in the rear axle.on another day during rain, the vehicle hydroplaned.it was taken to the dealership who determined the vehicle was out of alignment however after alignment procedure was performed the problem persisted.upon further inspection, a problem was discovered in the rear axle torsion bar, which was corrected installing a wedge.after the vehicle was taken to a tire dealer for new tires and alignment, it became out of alignment again.the dealership determined the alignment performed at the tire dealer was done incorrectly and they performed another alignment.

Turned the car on this morning and the air bag light turned on and has not shut off seat belts work just fine and no accidents with the auto not sure of the air bags in the car at this time

Had the local honda dealership replace the takata product. Was targeted by sales to puchase other "needs" they found and recommended for repair. The airbag was replaced.had to take an appointment and time from work

Takata recallthe airbag light on dashboard came on a month ago; it never goes off. I had one airbag replaced per honda dealer's advice a couple years ago. Should i take it in again??

2004 honda civic.consumer writes in regards to dealership customer service and lack of parts.

I no longer own this vehicle please stop sending me info on this car it was totaled and no longer on the streets.

Drivers side door will not lock with either key that goes to it.will not allow to manually lock without key either.

The hood rod contacted the battery terminal and appears to have started a fire during highway driving.

Driver side sear belt does not retract.it has been replaced before by the dealer.front mud flaps are to low andare damages and need replacing.electric plug socket does not work(lighter and cell phone)

While driving, loud non-stop transmission bearing noise began. In every gear. Pops out of gear at times. Difficult to get into gear at times. I have to press the gear in slowly to get it into gear at times. This has caused me difficulties in traffic & when gearing down to turn or stop. Almost rear ended at times due this. A transmission mechanic told me he has had so many 2004 civics in for the transmission bearings. He warned me that when it goes out the car may come to a stop. Also, the car jerks at times when i am accelerating. This has caused me to almost get hit when making a left turn while pulling out of parking lots. I fear for the failure when on the free way or in heavy traffic.

My car accelerated while in parking lot and went inside a building. I was not hurt. My car was damaged and the building and another car i hit sustained a significant damage.

The speedometer locked at 40 mph, it will not move to let the consumer know what speed she was going.the manufacturer offered no assistance at this time.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact was attempting to park when the vehicle exhibited an loud roar, then the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact applied the brakes repeatedly but to no avail. The contact was headed toward a tree and abruptly turned the steering wheel to avoid a crash. The vehicle then came to a complete stop. There was minor body damage to the vehicle. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where they were unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that after the failure occurred, the vehicle would exhibit a loud thumping noise whenever in operation. The contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and had concerns of the unintended acceleration defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 32,139.

My car honda hybrid 2004 was lurching a little bit on inclines, then the steering was acting weird. Anyway, i took it into the shop for my 5,000 mile check up and the guy there at honda dealer said everything was fine. Well, i was driving up the ca i 5, stopped over and pulled in, in front of a 7/11 and the car slowed down and i pulled up to the cement stop, with foot on brake. All of a sudden the car lurched at a high speed three times, and i was trying to brake it to make it quit and it wouldn't quit or brake. My car bashed in the window of the 7/11 and my foot was not on the gas.....it was a horrible experience. However, honda dealer is saying they cannot find anything wrong with it. I was just on the forum and there are lurching problems. I am sick over this whole thing.

2004 honda civic. Consumer states that the vehicle suddenly accelerated up to 80 mph in 10 seconds the brakes failed. *mc

Run a way honda 2004 hybrid cvt. *mrwhile the vehicle's engine was in economy mode the consumer took his foot of the brake to maneuver a turn when the vehicle suddenly accelerated.as a result the, the consumer slid on a sandy parking lotwhich knocked off one of the rear view mirrors and caused damage to the front end of the vehicle. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.on some occasions, when the vehicle was in motion, the engine would die, there would be no rpm, the consumers foot would be on the brakes, the engine would start up and the rpm would read 1200. *sc

While driving my 2004 honda civic just off from work at 8:30 pm, it started to accelerate without reducing the rpm's. I removed my foot from the pedal and continue to accelerate. Got on the freeway, and kept accelerating without control, at 50 mph, i tried to brake with no response, so i shut down the key and pulled over. I parked in p position. I turned on the car again very quick and rpm's where very high. Shut it down again. Called my insurance, they towed my car to the honda dealer, and the towing mechanic noticed that the spring/cap was up from the throttle box. He just touched it and went back to decelerating position. We turned on the car, and found no issues. Next day the honda dealer drove the car with no issues. I appeared that there was no root cause for this problem according with them. Ifor my own safety i asked them to replace the part, but it will be under my budget thinking that may happen again. The worst part of it is that the design on this part has not changed according with the repair man, why? am i the first one? are there any other cases with the same problem? do i have to pay for a safety issue? i was lucky that happened with no traffic in a good weather condition. I cannot imagine this happened to my wife with the kids under heavy traffic condition. I was able to react and think properly as i always do when i drive. I need help and answers. Thanks,

I was driving in a parking lot at a low speed, stopped to turn in parking space with foot on brake, car started to accelerate, pushed on brakes they would not work and car jumped curb, and hit post office building. Car died immediately, but when turned car back on everything seemed normal.

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. While driving approximately 20 mph the power steering and the brake pedal locked simultaneously. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle and crashed into the rear end of the vehicle directly in front of her. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was towed to the towing facility. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

When driving at low speeds vehicle surged forward. The vehicle suddenly accelerated , brakes failed and vehicle hit brick wall head on. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. *tc

The contact owns a 2004 honda civic. The contact stated he was attempting to park the vehicle at speeds of 5 mph, applying minimal pressure to the accelerator pedal. The vehicle abnormally accelerated over a curb and into a nearby field. The dealer advised the contact that the failure was due to driver error and the accelerator pedal was controlled by a cable and not electronic. The contact was concerned with the recurrence of the failure and the possibility of a crash. The failure mileage was 69,000 and the current was unknown.

While driving accelerator pedal became stuck, and vehicle smashed into a fence afterplacingitpark.the air bag struck consumer in the face.as the consumer looked down at the instrument panel, all of the dials were at zero.(no gas, no speed, no hot/cold indicator)the consumer parked the vehicle, restarted it and everything was back to normal.the consumer said that she was making a left hand turn, then all of a sudden, she was on a sidewalk, pulled into the road and was across in the next intersection heading for the drainage basin.the consumer was unable to stop the vehicle. *sc

The driver's side front power window in my 2004 honda civic will not immediately close when i pull up on the toggle switch to close the window.i either pull the switch many times, over and over, until the window closes, or i have to leave the window open.

At approximatly 3pm, sunday afternoon, i washed my honda civic hybrid. When the cold water hit the front windshield the windshield cracked from top to bottom. The honda dealer examined the crack the following week and did not find any stone damage.but, the factory rep indicates that since there is 33,000 miles on teh car and it is more than one year old, honda will not pay for any replacement. I feel that this is a design flaw and not he result of prior damage.

Stress crack on windshield beginning at very bottom of window on passengers side and running the full length of window. This crack occurred 6 months after buying the car new. The exactsame crack occurred againin oct., 2005. The exact same crack has occurred nov. 2006
