Airbags on my 2002 honda civic ex did not deploy after having 2 accidents going between 40 and 60 mph.

My seatbelt/srs light went came on and when i took it to the honda dealership i was told that there is an issue with the srs sensor but is not covered under any warranty. To me it seems like a safety issue that honda does not cover the srs sensor in the buckle. With this sensor going bad it could cause an issue with the airbag. My honda has had multiple recalls on the airbag but nothing on the sensor. I believer honda should cover this as a safety issue.

200 honda civic. Consumer went to dealership to have air bag inflator replaced. However, he was informed the parts were not available. *ta

The driver side air bag light came up. After taking to the dealer - i was recommended to replace the whole system since dealer did not have ability to identify the issue and the repairs will not be covered under any warranty.

The contact mentioned that the vehicle was recently repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v349000 (air bags). The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000. Updated 01/09/15*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. The airbag warning light was repaired and the clock spring was replaced on november 22, 2014. Updated 06/3/2015

Airbag light (srs) turns on, can be reset, airbag light will turn back on after one week passes.

On going problem with srs light on at 102,000 miles, honda replaced front shoulder belt/retractor tensioner at 103,375 miles. Srs light on at 107,948 miles failed driver side seat belt tensioner, replaced by honda. At 121,223 srs light on again this time not seatbelt tensioner.i was told this is an airbag problem and the starting cost is $800. I was told the seatbelt will hold in an accident, but the airbags will not deploy and this needs to be repaired.i can't afford the repair cost involved.i really don't want to drive around in a small vehicle without airbags, but no option.

I have a very common problem with my 2003 honda civic ex.the srs warning light comes on when i plug in my gps, or use a cell phone, or put a package on my passenger seat.this is ridiculous and honda refuses to give me an answer concerning this problem.whether the sensors are too sensitive or defective is not for me to judge, but it definitely annoying and potentially dangerous, since no one can answer if my airbag will fail.

Takata recallprevious complaint in feb. 2018, and no action taken, complaint # 11079970, air bag recall, resulting in no action taken from honda, head-on accident occurred, and air-bags should've deployed, but didn't. Injuries incurred. Honda has refused any partaking on matter. I was at a complete stop, in the turning lane, car appeared out of nowhere, and i hit her head-on to the drivers side front bumper, light, tire. This was a no-fault accident on the police report.

Srs error light repeatedly comes on, with code 7-2 "internal failure of srs unit", which apparently disables the airbag.other people report this in forums, so adding it to your database in case there's a trend of failing control units.

I am the original owner of a 2003 honda civic si that has approximately 58,000 miles.the car has always been garaged and has always been maintained by honda dealers.i have always met and in some cases exceeded the recommended maintenance intervals.in november of 2009, the srs light appeared on my dash after starting the vehicle one morning.this occurred about 2 weeks after a routine oil/filter service visit at my local honda dealer.i returned to the dealer and paid approximately $85 for the service department to evaluate why this srs indicator light was illuminated.i was told my vehicle had a "bad inflater" that "would not inflate the air bags during a [collision]" and that ineeded to order/purchase a new cable reel assembly.the estimated parts and labor charges would be $540.the service personnel told me that they weren't sure if the new cable reel assembly would resolve the srs issue but they believed that it was at least partly to blame for the srs light being illuminated on the dash.i am presently aware of the recall of a number of many 2003 honda civics but mine has not been included.the issue with my vehicle represents an unexplained failure of a critical safety system that is unacceptable given the age and usage of this vehicle.i am concerned that the current recall announced on february 9th does not reach far enough.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that the srs light had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the air bag inflator module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000. Updated 11/14/14the consumer stated the vehiicle was repaired. The consumer would like to be reimbursed for the repairs. Updated 8/12/2015

I hit ahorse ( about 1,200 pounds) in the highway at 65 mph, the airbag did not deploy.i was immediately hit head on by a car that was traveling 69 mph, again the airbag did not deploy. My vehicle was a 2003 honda civic sedan lx.the car was totalled.and honda manufacturer has refused to discuss it with me.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that while approaching a stop light the brakes failed. The contact stated that the vehicle did not slow down and the brake pedal kicked back up when depressed. As a result, the contact entered the intersection and another vehicle crashed into her vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries from the crash. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop, but the brakes had not been inspected. The failure and current mileages were 88,000.updated 9/21/12

Driver traveling in 2003 honda civic at about 40 mph; other driver (in a ford minivan) coming from opposite direction made illegal turn in front of civic causing collision; civic collided with front passenger wheel of the minivan, folding the wheel under; hit brakes on civic but considerable damage to both vehicles (approximately $6000 on the civic); air bag did not deploy on the civic.

We saw a news report about the air bag recalls for these vehicles in late summer last year. We called the dealership when our srs light came on to see if our vehicle was part of the takata-brand airbag recall. When we called, the dealership stated that our vehicle was not included in the recall. We reset the srs computer. We never received any paperwork stating there ever was such a recall. While out running errands on 01/31/2015 we heard a news report about a prior recall for the takata airbags did not work properly. Our srs light is back on after a couple of computer resets without a code ever pulling up on the vehicle. When we got home we decided to do a recall check by vin on honda's website. The vehicle has incomplete recall from 06/19/2014. The call number is 14v-351. This is a serious issue when it comes to safety: 1. For not being notified of a potentially dangerous recall, 2.for being lied to about the recall when calling the local dealership. We are going to try going to the dealership with a copy of the online search using their system on monday 02/02/2015. Hopefully we can get some answers, but our prior experience with this is unacceptable.

Srs warning light appeared in december 2011, made appointment with pohanka honda in fredericksburg, va. To have diagnostic performed. Dealer stated that seatbelt buckle has bad sensor and needs to be replaced. Seat components have a lifetime warranty as stated in users manual page 48, and in warranties manual page 31 stating: honda provides a lifetime warranty on seat belts. Honda will repair or replace any seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use.in warranty manual it states, honda will repair or replace, at its option, any honda seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use this includes all parts and labor charges. Pohankahonda failed to warranty part stating the buckle is not part of the seat belt it is part of the electrical system and therefore not warrantied.honda customer service stated that the buckle is not part of the seat belt and therefore not covered under warranty. Honda needs to warranty and stand behind this warranty. Not able to pass virginia state inspection with this light on and failure.

I am driving honda civic 2003 model past 14+ years. I am single owner. I had an accident on 10/24/2018.i applied the brake when i saw traffic stopped but the seat belt not tighten. Because of this reason, my chest hit the steering. Also air bag didn't open. Good news is no fracture but my chest hitted steering really bad.few years ago i went to the honda service station they changed the seat belt but not remember the which seat belt they changed.please do the inspection and do the needful help who ever still driving honda civic. Please feel free to call me at (xxxxx) if you have further questions.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle crashed into a curb and the air bags deployed. The air bag warning light illuminated ten to fifteen minutes after the incident. After experiencing the failure, it was discovered that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v37000 (air bags) and 15v320000 (air bags). The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the vehicle was included in the recalls. Due to the failure already being experienced, the vehicle was not repaired and the recall remedies were declined. A police report was not filed and no injuries were sustained. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000. The vin was not available.

I have a 2003 honda civic.the last part of last year (2009), i turned my car on, and the srs airbag light came on, and i took my car in to allen honda in college station, tx for service.the service tech asked if i had spilled any water on my steering wheel or had any fender benders recently, to which i answered no.i was then informed it might cost up to four hundred dollars to completely investigate and fix the problem. The technician said it could mean that there is something wrong with either my driver's or passenger's side airbag that will cause them not to deploy in the event of an accident. I was taken aback by this because it is not part of regular wear and tear, but a vehicle malfunction and i did nothing to cause the airbag light to come on.i have not yet gotten this issue fixed and the airbag warning light is still on.i do have some concerns about safety, and feel it should not be my responsibility to cover the cost of something that is not considered normal wear and tear and is not the result of any type of misuse or accident.i have since been contacted by honda and the representative alluded to the fact that the government handles any type of recalls.

Came in today to tampa honda for a scheduled appointment for the air bag recall and service advisor [xxx]advised me that the parts are not available even though the dealership sent me two emails confirming that the service would be performed today. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When driving down the road, the vehicles stopped . I applied my brakes and nothing happened. I then hit the vehicle in front of me. And my air bags on my vehicle did not deploy.

Takata recall

The vehicle's srs light started to come on.it would come on and off until it finally stayed on.we took it to the dealer and the dealer said it was the airbag control module.it would cost $700 to repair.based on a different defect, honda has extended the warranty on their srs if the error code comes up as 15-1, 15-2, 15-3 (opds sensor or control unit).this warranty did not cover the defect i have on the airbag.my error code was 7-2, the "control module.with the srs light on, the airbag (according to the dealer) is not active.i can not afford to pay $700 to fix this.this is a safety equipment issue resulting from a defect.airbag shouldn't "wear out".i did some research on the internet and there are many complaints about this from other owners.at $700, i'm sure there are many drivers driving around without airbags.honda civic hybrid, 200345,000 miles.

The airbag/ srs light went off and honda dealer said it was the seatbelts and required a $530 repair. I am not sure why this is not covered under a warranty for safety.

El carro prende la bolsa de aire. Un sensor de temperatura y el switch

Called the dealership for an appointment and was given one over 60 days beyond the days date. The recall is for airbags and is a clear safety risk to drivers. They will sell vehicles but will not repair their mistakes in a reasonable amount of time.

My airbag light is on,as is many other people that own honda civics. Was told it is the airbag computer.almost $1000.this is a safety issue and honda should recall an fix this issue. I work for toyotaand they had to recall all the gas pedal issues. That was a safety issue. I love my civic but if honda is not going to stand behind there product than i will never buya honda again. So i have a car with two airbags and they are useless.nice to know if i get in a wreck they will not work. So much for loving my civic. How many complaints does it take for something to get done???

Shortly after, the contact received a notice stating that the passenger side needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The technician stated that the parts needed were not available and that the passenger side air bag did not need to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted, who explained to the contact that the notification was sent in error and that the passenger side air bag did not need to be replaced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v700000 (air bag). The failure mileage was 60,000.updated 4/27/15updated10/9/15

I was going threw a intersection (alone) in my 2003 coupe honda civicand a red full sized ford truck hit the front driver side of my car at about 30 mph. The truck flipped and slid and my airbags never went off causing, memory loss, stage 3 concussion and other health problems.nothing was done to fix it theysaid my car was totaled per the insurance company. And i took many pictures of it and the damaged parts before the took it.

My vehicle is included in airbag recall 14v-349 dated july 21, 2014. I have not received a recall notice, the dealer cannot order parts because honda hasn't released a replacement part number, the dealer will not disconnect my airbags (toyota recommends this short-term procedure until parts are available), and american honda (1-800-999-1009, [xxx] @ [xxx]) will not return my calls. I am moving to florida nov 12, and do not have a car to drive. Is honda required to complete recalls within a designated period, or can they extend repairing vehicles indefinitely until they eventually rust away?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Takata recall

I bought this car 2 years ago when the car had about 96,000 miles.car now has 130,353 miles and the air bag light is now on.apparently honda does not have a recall for this problem.

2003 honda civic.consumer writes in regards to airbag recall replacement issues and not hearing from dealer as to when to bring the vehicle in for repairs.

The passenger side airbag inflator has been recalled.i can replace it free.but the replacement will be an act of futility because the srs light is on, the sensor is probably broken, and if there is an accident the air bag won't go off.(i have not scheduled the pointless act.)i spoke to someone in complaints.if the srs light is due to a sensor problem, replacement will cost another $1900. Dealers are privately owned and they charge what they charge.never mind the fact that honda makes the sensor and prices them high.that, in turn, forces dealers to charge a lot.

Srs light stays on, honda service department claims the air bag computer is bad and needs to be replaced, $700 + and it is not covered by any warranty.the car is a 2003 honda civic hybrid that has never been in any accident.i have replaced the hybrid battery (at 95,000 miles), and the car now has about 120,000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact received notifications for nhtsa campaign number: 14v351000 (air bags), nhtsa campaign number: 14v394000 (air bags) and nhtsa campaign number: 12v136000 (exterior lighting). The contact had not experienced a failure.

2003 honda civic. Consumer writes in regard to honda airbag recall 19v-182. *asthe consumer inquired about the airbag being inspected under recall, but not being replaced.

I own a honda civic lx 2003. I am the first owner of the car. All of sudden the car has been showing the srs indicator on all the time when the car is started. Which means air bags won't deploy in event of crash. Called honda dealer from where i purchased the car and they said it would cost $$$ to check/fix. This is not fair. All the life saving equipments / devices have life time warranty on it. Please take some action against manufacturer (honda) to fix this issue and have them fix it without charge.

The supplemental restraint system (srs) light came on, read the code and was a 7-2 code meaning that the air bag or srs module had an internal failure. This can be caused by a voltage deficiency problem so i had my charging system checked and everything was in specification range. Contacted honda as i have read that they extended the warranty on these modules to a 10 year/ 150,000 mile warranty because of so many failures. They of course said that was only on select models. I am now looking into having the module repaired or replaced as the airbags will fail to work in a collision due to this issue. This is a serious safety issue and there are numerous complaints that you can readily find online about these modules failing. Honda should have to be required to fix these irregardless of mileage or age.

"takata recall"..the airbag light in my car randomly comes on a lot, i worry that it will deploy while driving.2nd concern: suspension in my car is very bad, i had my mechanic check it and he said he had lots of complaints about this in lots of civics, he can't find problem.

My car needs airbag inflators

I had taken for a recall on my honda 2003 civic ex atmcdavid honda of irving. I recently had a oil changed at mcdavid honda of irving. After the oil change, there was a difference in my car's performance. Its takes a lot to throttle the car from start to run, if its on incline road. The gas mileage has gone down from 30mpg to 27 mpg. When asked to have a look at it, the service adviser said "$ 99 for diagnose." when i took the delivery after the recall was done, i noticed my air bag light has come-on. I asked the service adviser about the light, he said the light was on when i delivered the car to them. There has been no accident, and the light just came on by itself. They told me, i have to pay $99 to have honda to diagnose the problem. I talked to american honda, they said "as your warranty has finished, american honda is not responsible for any repair and services performed by any authorized honda dealership".

Front end collision in clearwater fl in which the seat belt did not restrain the driver and the air bag did not deploy. Driver's head hit windshield, he has significant head, neck and back injuries. The vehicle, a 2003 honda civic is a total loss. The car's srs light had come on approx. 1 month before the accident. A honda dealer replaced a part needed for that approx. 2 weeks before the accident.

Takata recall (15v-370), after bringing my vehicle into honda for the takata recall the srs light came on. Since it was not part of the recall i did not contact them figuring that it would not be covered. However, i have seen numerous complaints about the same thing happening to others online. It also happened to a friend of mine and honda covered it so i called and was told it would not be covered it must be a coincidence and certainly not from a defect or improper work. I find it very odd that the light came on right after the work on the recall. I had doubts about brining it in and should not have done it. They say it is probably related to a sensor, which i have gathered could have been from improper work.

Takata recall?i was in an accident with a major impact to my car and none of the airbags inflated.i was stopped on a freeway off-ramp and another vehicle rear-ended me with full speed pushing me to collide with another vehicle in front of me.

I just pulled out of parking lot onto road knowing that within the next 200 ft i was approaching stop light i was doing about 15-20 mph. I saw the car stopped for light and stepped on my brakes my car never attempted to slow down or stop until it impacted with rear of vehicle stopped at light. 2nd accident: as crossing intresection a car pulled over into my lane i applied brakes and car did not attempt to slow down or brakes work my car did not stop until it impacted with rear of vehicle in front of me.3rd accident: as pulling off from green light approaching traffic at next stop light cars started braking at which time i applied my brakes i was well within stopping distance if my brakes had worked. They went all the way to the floor and the car started sliding and it was as if the car picked up speed after hitting my brakes with both feet. My seat bealt did not work (i hit stearing wheel) nor did the air bag my car did not slow down or attempt to until impact with other vehicle rear bumper. Upon impact i hit the sterring wheel and my knee hit the dash.i have major damage to my vehicle the front bumper is tottally gone , the radiator blew up my car was smoking and the hood is bowed up. The car was not drivable . When the tow truck arrrived and actually saw the impact. He quickly stated " the breaks did not work in your car did they? " i was very surprised but he could actually tell my car did not stop or attempt to stop until impact with rear of other vehicle. And he stated he thought honda had a recall on these for the brakes and air bags. This car has many recalls and complaints. I'mscared to get in the vehicle again! i need help and advise on what to do next. I do not want another person to go through what i have been through and could greatly lead to fatality. Very concerned about safety of 2003 honda civic! i need to know what to do with this vehicle!

I was making a left hand turn and got hit at 45 mph on front drivers side. My passenger air bag deployed, but my drivers air bag did not deploy. My head struck the drivers side window and in result i had a forehead laceration that needed 24 stitches.

While driving at 25 mph consumer's vehicle hydroplaned and impacted another vehicle head on. Passenger's side seat belt didn't retract, andpassenger's air bag didn't deploy upon impact, only the driver'sside did.

Takata recall, recall?the original airbags have been replaced, approximately 18 months ago.now the airbag light has come on - and stays on.i came on 2 weeks ago for no apparent reason (no crash or other reason it would come on).it is on from the time i turn the car on until i turn the car off.

I was informed by american honda my vehicle needed to be serviced for airbags in oct. 2014. I took my honda on 10/29/14 to be serviced. When i showed up i was informed it was not there for service as they previously stated, but to be inspected. They informed me i needed a passenger side airbag & they would be in touch w/ me. It has been well over 60 days now & nothing from honda of ocala.

My srs light has been on for a few months.it was diagnosed that my srs unit is broken, which i find hard to believe that something can be broken if it is has never been used. Now my air bags will not deploy if i crash.i have to ask honda why this is not a safety warranty like a seat belt? this is threatening to any honda driver and quite frankly, scary.i have read beyond numerous complaints regarding the same issue.

I was in a head on collision on 03nov2007 in washington, dc. There were 4 vehicles involved in the accident, my vehicle a 2003 honda civic being the last automobile in the series. The crash rate of speed was from about a 55mph to 0mph. Neither my or my passengers airbag deployed resulting in ongoing injuries of the neck and spine. Mine requiring surgery and absenteeism from work. I would like to see some kind of investigation on why they did not deploy.

Takata recall: there have been numerous times where i have either called or went to a honda dealership to have the airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger side, fixed to avoid harm to myself or others. In almost three years, i have not once heard back about the dealership receiving parts to fix the issue. I have never received notice, nor was i told about the recall with the wiring harness terminal for the low beam headlights. Honda needs to fix this issue because it is a huge safety hazard that can get people killed or seriously injured.

I ran into the back of a honda civic at about 20 mph. My air bags did not come out. I had a bit of chest pain after the crash. I think that honda should check and fix this problem for free. If i was on a highway going 70 mph this accident could have been much worse.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. While driving downhill at 55 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when the brakes were engaged. The driver crashed into the rear of another vehicle. I was driving my 2003 honda civic-ex on a main road, speed limit 40 mph. At an intersection, i stopped in the left lane and waited for oncoming traffic to clear, so i could turn left. Suddenly, my car was struck from behind by a mack truck. The impact sent my car across the intersection, over a curb, and into a tree trunk.air bags failed to deploy. My passenger and i were wearing seat belts, but our injuries were serious. We were taken by ambulance to hospital emergency room.

Hello, the vehicle passing through culvert and hit the crossbar with the road, and the airbag automatically opened, the blow was slightly below and nothing drastic, the car has never been nor ever collided head back. I think the airbags are faulty, what should i do.

While driving at 50 mphconsumer's vehicle was involved in a frontal collision in which it crashed into a pole.upon impact, air bags failed to deploy. Driver sustained a bump on her head.

Takata recall - this is crazy...i first had to have the driver's side airbag recall done on my vehicle. Now years later i need to bring the car back in for the passenger side recall. Next it will be some other part. If something happens to my car with these airbags, i am not only going after honda and takata, but the regulators. You all need to be making sure people are safe. Too many people are impacted by this. You all need to have the manufacturer do a complete inspection on anything pertaining to the airbags!

Air bag light came on.several recalls for my car.honda refuses to fix saying i'm not affected.

There was a massive recall on airbags and my car is involved in it. I'm filing a complaint because i don't know how to get the airbags replaced since i am not the original owner.

My daughter was driving our honda civic 2003 and rear-ended a vehicle.the air bag did not deploy.the air bags had been serviced by a honda dealership in 2014 due to the takata recall. This is an issue and i don't know why the air bag did not deploy.i can provide photo evidence, if requested. My daughter did have slight neck injury as a result. Updated 09/15/15*lj updated 12/08\17

Takata recall. Honda came to my house to replace air bags and now the srs light is on and honda wants to charge me 982.00 because they said it is a computer problem.

2003 honda civic.consumer writes in regards to airbag recall replacement part problems.the dealer informed the consumer, the passenger side air bag replacement parts were on back order and they would contact him when the parts arrived. The consumer stated that was back in january 2015 and as of july 11, 2015 the parts are still not available.

Electronic sensor in seatbelt has been sporadically faulty since purchase of car. Finally, after warranty was up, dealership repair shop said it had to be replaced to tune of $380. Seatbelt sensor caused airbag indicator to go on, which also prevents airbag from opening. Had their been an accident, airbag would not have deployed.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact received anotice for nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v320000 (air bags), nhtsa campaign number: 12v136000 (exterior lighting), and nhtsa campaign number: 15v370000 (air bags) and felt that they exceeded a reasonable amount of time for repair. The dealer and manufacturer stated that the parts needed were not available. The dealer also stated that they would contact the contact back to schedule an appointment. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Srs light comes on constantly.code reads seat belt buckle, changed multiple times under seat belt warranty.now tech line advises replacing wire harness into seat belt...dealer wants over $900.honda will cover under warranty anything seat belt related but they do not care about air bags...and won't cover it.please cover this under warranty honda...it's not even guaranteed this will clear the code.theory is air bags are disabled if srs light is on...why have the harness anyway...service has used electrical contact cleaner, re-wired the end of the harness, but only satisfies for a few months and code continues to eliminate srs light which disables airbags.why cover seatbelts but not airbag/srs system?

I own a 2003 honda civic sedan.in 2007 i was in a front end collision with over $5,000 damage to my vehicle.neither airbags deployed.i wasn't seriously injured but if the impact had been head on maybe i could have been.

Srs light is always on. I have reset it a number of times but it will go on again after a few days or weeks. The air bags will not deploy when the light is on. I am surprised that this is not a very serious safety issue. From reviewing the complaints, the dealers answers or guesses as to what's wrong are too numerous to list here and the cost just to investigate is just too high. There is something obviously wrong with this system and honda needs to seriously address this issue.

My son was driving a 2003 honda civic si recently. He hit a telephone pole which totaled the vehicle. There was severe front end damage. The vehicle is equipped with air bags but they did not deploy. He and his passenger were restrained by the seatbelts and had only minor bruising from the accident.

I accident on 7/23/2020 only right passenger air bag deployed. The car was hit on the drivers side and car was totaled. The air bags were replacedby honda mechanic for recall for airbags on 8/31/19.

The contact took the vehicle to huntington honda (1055 jericho turnpike, huntington, ny 11743, phone number: (631) 423-6000) to be repaired for an unknown air bag recall. While driving from the dealer, the contact noticed that the air bag was sticking out of the steering wheel and the horn failed to function. While driving 25 mph, the gear shifter failed to shift out of park, the radio failed, and the steering wheel seized. The vehicle stalled without warning. While making a left turn, the contact crashed into a high curb, which pushed the engine back. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained a broken foot that required medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to nardy honda smithtown (559 middle country rd, st james, ny 11780, phone number: (855) 738-2920). The vehicle was destroyed. This defective part is in my vehicle.i checked with american honda. This defect has caused deaths and serious injuries to drivers when air bag is deployed.honda cannot replace it at this time and it can cause me serious injury and accidents.please have honda change this immediately or remove air bag and replace with a new one immediately.

So, i received the honda safety recall notice for the airbags and brought my 2003 civic to be serviced.after it was compete, i noticed that the airbag light was still illuminated on my dash.i went back to speak with the dealership and the woman said that light is not part of the recall! how absurd is that?! there's a diagnostic charge for figuring out what the problem is.why isn't this part of the recall, honda?!?!

Nothing has happened yet, but i am worried something will. The problems with the airbags on my car are beyond ridiculous at this point and something needs to be done. I am worried about my safety when driving my only car. The vehicle has already been recalled twice now and it seems that the airbag problems have still not been resolved. Honda is unable to fix the current issue until they have the parts, which could be a long time. I am either forced to get a new car or drive in a car that might have airbags that won't deploy in an accident. Is something going to be done about all the cars on the road with these problems.

Took car in for airbag failure recall and was told the srs unit in the airbag system had an internal failure.however, this was not covered under any type of warranty or recall.this is an integral part of a safety system that should not fail under normal wear an tear.the part was on back order and required a deposit of $800 to order.we left the dealership not knowing if our airbags would work or not.

Takata recall the air bags came out prematurelywhile in motion

I don't know if this is right form but i have a complaint with honda. I have a recall on my car and they do not have the parts manufactured to remedy the recall. They will not provide any other solution. I called the honda recall department and my case manager never got back to me; they had told me it was going to be 24-48 hours until they got back to me and she never has gotten back to me. I want a loaner vehicle until my car can be fixed. They did not authorize this. I told [xxx] on the phone that i was going to start recording the conversation to make sure i had everything correct and she said "you do not have my permission to record this call" and hung up. If the remedy is not available for my car, i want a car in the interim until my vehicle can be fixed and safe to drive.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Dt:the contact stated the airbag warning light came on.the dealership said the entire srs needed to beto be replaced. Updated 2/13/2006 -

Srs (air bag) light came one.honda service dept could not find a problem and reset light.light came back on 1/2 hour after leaving shop.service dept said control unit requires replacement.please see following link for dozens of similar complaints:http://www.autofan.com/forum_reply.asp?message=7364&replyid=34100&level=13&all=.

My 2003 civic hybrid was t-boned on the drivers side by a nissan altima traveling 30-35mph.the majority of the impact was on the left rear door and midpost between the left front and left rear door.the left front door was crinkled leaving window and door unable to function.left rear door completely smashed and left rear window broken out.the side air bags did not deploy.i inquired with honda (local and national) inquiring if the side air bag should have deployed.both local and national honda said the deployment of the side air bag depends on the angle of impact, etc.i told them i was concerned if the airbags would function if i had another wreck.they said if side air bags were not functioning, a warning light would be active on the dash.no parts were replaced, etc.when the car was being repaird and was torn down in body shop, i went to the shop and looked at the sensors and their location.they were located at the base (floor level) of the car, midway between the front and rear door.the car is a compact, and naturally sits low anyway.most car bumpers on impact will hit 1/3 or 1/2 way up the door, especially trucks/suvs.it seems to me the sensors are too low.also, i received a laceration on my head.as the car shifted strongly to the right at impact, my head slammed into the support handle that is positioned above the driver's window in the interior.in my call to honda's national office, i suggested they check the side air bag sensors engineering, and that they remove the interior handle above the driver's window (i've noticed other brands of vehicles don't have them there).second injury was my wife's neck being sore after the wreck from whiplash.summary: two concerns 1) are side air bag sensors working and/or engineered properly, and 2) the support handle that is head- high on the driver's side should be removed.

2003 honda civic experiencing problems with the srs light illuminating on the dashboard.*mrthe srs light went on, indicating the disengagement of the passenger air bag. Own 2003 honda civic ex bought new in november 2002 from dch honda of oxnard, ca. Three weeks ago took car there for srs indicator being lit constantly while vehicle was in operation. At time of service, light had been lit constantly for one week- never cleared. At subject dealership, was told after vehicle brought into service area, light not lit.found "no codes stored at this time." don't know srs circuitry design-unsure if srs indicator latches upon failure and can only be cleared by some process.if latches, feel it reasonable assumption that it could have been cleared by service tech's. Presume no detailed diagnostics performed, as was not chargedtypical $95 for that service, per other dealership inquiry. Will not return to dch honda as received substandard customer service and dch auto group not answered inquiries concerning nhtsa action number pe05043 (or other action) applicability for no-cost fix. Read on internet several honda/acura owners have had light come on and some have been subject to cascading repair costs (easter-egg troubleshooting) if no codes uncovered. Have heard that battery drain might be culprit, although have no problem cranking vehicle and have less than 40k miles. Appreciate knowing if nhtsa action exists to have fixed w/o cascading repair approach. Noticed yellow modular connectors under front seats (presume p/o srs system) exposed and subject to contact w/sliding/rolling floorboard items.possibly intermittent, no fault code-related light latches or is constant due to intermittent circuit discontinuity from stress to exposed connectors/cabling. Problem still present and need to get it repaired pronto, but can't afford dealership experiments with my only car. Have not had a front-end collision, nor tampering, nor maintenance lapses (have adhered to all preventive service requirements plus more). Appreciate any help you can provide.

The car was not in an incident it has a lot of recalls i would like fixed

The transmissionsuddenly fails every 30-40k miles creating a traffic hazard that will result in a crash without warning. Also, the ima battery does not hold a sufficient charge creating a loss in power and a possible accident.

I have a 2003 honda hybrid with 65,000 miles. The ima warning light went on a few days ago and they have determined the hybrid battery needs to be replaced. I am concerned that the honda batteries are not living up to expectations and could lead to failure in other areas (faulty steering during turns, etc.) which could pose a safety hazard.when i bought the vehicle, i was under the understanding that the battery life would outlive the vehicle life, and finding it to be untrue. I am having the battery replaced today on warranty, but they have not been able to tell me if it is a better battery or higher developed battery than what was originally installed.since i am most concerned about safety, i wanted to report this to you.sincerely, roger soucy

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid. The contact stated that the vehicle would not immediately start up. On several occasions, while driving, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 164,000.

Horn has stopped working.

My 03 honda civic hybrids electric (hybrid) motor needed replacing.

The air bags in my vehicle did not deploy in a front end collision that i was involved in.it caused me to fly forward and injure myself, almost hitting the front windshield.in addition to this problem, i have discovered that the cigarette lighter plug-in does not work in my vehicle.i have found that the transmission in my vehicle had a defective part that a car repair man fixed.

Suddenly lost power when driving, stalled-started again, all lights came on dashboard when driving, engine light stayed on. Repairs @ gardena, told it waselectrical, honda-control module engine replaced, o2 sensor, w-bulb (12v 21w) drove car less than 2 hours same problems occurred (day car was picked up).

The problem is intermittent, ongoing for the past 2 years.the failure is that the transmission will not come out of park, there are no brake lights, there is no brake regeneration in the hybrid system, and the auto stop function does not work.over the last 24 days there the car has been started 75 times with 24 times failure of the brake system to work.i've kept a log since the last dealer visit.the last time in shop they tested/replaced ignition switch and brake light switch (second brake light switch in 2 years).the dealer " cannot duplicate the problem, even when it is acting up when i take it in.there seems to be a correlation between failure and lower temperatures and high humidity/rain.the problem is driving without stop lights and never knowing while driving if everything is working.at some point i'm going to be rear end, hopefully the kids will not be in the car.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that she was unable to insert the key into the ignition or start the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The door will not lock using the key. The key either gets jammed in the door or wont go in. When it does go in, it wont come back out. Frustrated because i cant lock/unlock my car without a break-in kit.

Dt: 2003 honda civic isstalling on the highway or on public streets. The vehicle ishesitating/stalling when the clutch is engaged or between shifting gears. The speeds are 0-70 when the vehicle is hesitating. There is no warning before the car dies. The vehicle has shown the code once and the code shown cylinder #1 misfired. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership 4 times for this problem. The vehicle is also having problems starting. The vehicle has not started twice, and both times it had to be rolled and started by the owner. The vehicle is having electrical problems; the owner thinks that the wiring harness is bad. The dealership told the consumer that the wiring harness is different. The vehicle has power surges. The owner is in the process of having the vehicle turned back in to honda, using the reference to the lemon law. The owner has parked the vehicle. The owner feels like the vehicle is unsafe to drive. The vehicle is 11 months old and was purchased used.

My ignition key is stuck. The key does not release from the ignition.

2003 honda civic concerns regarding the change in the cars performance.***no answer required***.*mrever since theecm update was performed on the consumers vehicle, the gas mileage has droppedto 41 mpg, then to 38 mpg ad now 37 mpg. In addition, the vehicle now labors and lags terribly.

I was driving my car and had parked at a friends house waiting for him to come outside at 10:30pm when he entered the car i was tryin to make a u-turn and my car was turning on and off all by itself, and my wheel was turning to the off position as i was turning. I was able to drive home with no pronblem. That same week i was driving to virginia to see a family member and as im driving down i-95 the car just shuts off and turns on again for by itself for no reason, and i was driving at a steady 65 miles an hour. I then called my honda dealer and sceduled an appoinment and they had it for 3days and could not find anything. They said that to bring it to my alarm shop that installed and aftermarket alarm system on my car, because they thought i had an auto-start feature on my alarm. I told them i didnt but i would take it anyway just to make sure nothing was done wrong on their part. They had it for 1day and they too came up with nothing.they said it could not be the alarm that they took it out and put it back in and nothing was done wrong.

At all times turn signals began to work intermediately. Had fuses and relays checked (not the problem). Soon after driver side low beam headlight went out. Had bulb changed, worked for approximately 2 days then both low beam headlights went out along with both high beam headlights and emergency flashers. Have took vehicle in for diagnostic in which the turn lever was replaced and still didnt repair anything. No one can seem to find the problem. All symptoms seem to fall into category with recall #:12v136000 but when entering my vin recall isnt shown. Please help! i am taking a huge risk driving in the day and its impossible to drive at night

I got a recall notice (nov. 2012) about 2003 honda civic's headlights failing. About a week later in the early morning as i was going to work, my car headlights failed as i left my driveway. I left the car at home and took another. On return from work i found both headlights out, no blown fuses, heater fan not working, both abs and brake panel lights on. I scheduled repair at o'hare honda, des plaines, il. I arrived at the service dept. With recall notice and also to have additional maintenance services. I left the car for them to work on it. Repair work done on invoice #410741 dated nov.19, 2012. The service writer called me the next day and told me the brake light repair required the master cylinder to be replaced. I ok'dmajor work. Service writer called back to say the abs module needed to be replaced too. I ok'd that repair at large cost also. When i picked up my car the service writer told me they "put in a free alternator as that too was bad". The headlight repair cost $1,877.77 ($1,326.17 for parts + $551.60 labor). I have been thinking about this repair and have come to the conclusion that the voltage regulator on the alternator failed and put a large surge on the electrical system of the car. This surge "fried" the electrics on the two brake parts and burned out the headlights. The "free" alternator should have been the clue to the cause of the problem.i don't understand why some device can not be installed into the electrical wiring system of the car to prevent this expensive and potentially dangerous failure. The final problem with this repair was that i had to immediately return to the dealer to have them install new headlight bulbs as they must not have checked them and they were still burned out. So much for quality control.

My honda civic hybrid 2003. The accelerator sometime increases by itself.you can actually see and feel the pedal leave your right foot by itself. My car went as high as 90mi. The only solution is to step on the brake and shift to low gear. So the car will slow down.

My windows sporadically get stuck open, very difficult driving when the elements of the weather or not good. I've had to drive with the rain driving through my window. Trying to hold a plastic bag in place so i did not get wet.

The contact owned a 2003 honda civic. My vehicle has been in the brown's honda city service department 3 times in the last 6 weeks due to an electrical problem.the vehicle loses all charge, and the only way to restart it is by a jumpstart.the dealership told me twice that it was fixed, and the problem repeated itself.this time, the dealership told me there is nothing they can do, and they cannot fix the vehicle.i purchased an extended warranty on the vehicle when i bought the vehicle.it is not right that honda sold a car to me that they cannot fix.

I have a 2003 honda civic ex with the same problem listed in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v086000 my car was not included in the recall.

Fuel gauge registering empty and fuel light on after i just added 5 gallons.

The ignition switch has gone out.

The combination light switch connector in my car is experiencing problems with heat in the low beam wiring. It is the same problem as listed under other civics from the model year range, but mine is not included in the recall. It may cause the low beams to go out and cause visibility issues when the wire becomes too hot.

On 3 occasions over past 3 years we have had key/ lock/ ignition switch problems. Result: 1. Inabilityto start engine; 2. Unable to unlock driver side door; 3. Unable to open trunk. Latest repair on 3-28-06 consisted of replacing trunk lock tumbler and driver side door lock tumbler. Repair advisor verbally stated trunk lock tumblers were badly worn; door lock tumblers needed lubrication. We consider consequences of failure could be serious given circumstances at time of failure.

Window switch meltdown happens in earlier honda civics.i recently read that honda was recalling cars for a window master switch that melted when it got moisture in it like when it rains with the window down.this problem has persisted for years.my 2003 civic melted and could have caused a fire three years ago after a little moisture.where was the recall back then if we were really concerned about this problem?

The consumer used the valet key (extra) to start the vehicle and the entire electrical system shut down.the consumer attempted to use the electronic key to start the vehicle.the dealer can not explain what the problem could be that caused the keys to bend or why the electrical system to shut down. *mr

This car fails to start. Had been reported to dealer and was told every thing was ok. On 27 aug 2005 this cars engine stopped while driving down hill. When it was towed to dealer . I was told the main battery was dead.

When coming to a slow stop, with brake lightly applied, the vehicle is designed to turn off the engine and disengage the transmission while the vehicle is still moving.due to use of the engine as a generator to charge the propulsion battery at this point, the friction is substantial and contributes greatly to braking.when the engine shuts off and the transmission disengages simultaneously, the sudden decrease in friction will cause the vehicle to suddenly stop slowing down unless more brake pressure is immediately applied.this can cause a low-speed rear end crash with a stopped vehicle ahead.there is no warning that i could find in the owner's manual regarding this.

The car flipped.

Dt: when the consumer's vehicle was parked she came outside and the vehicle had rolled down the hill into the woods. There weren't any car keys in the ignitionor the vehicle, the vehicle was in drive, and it was off...consumer was able to slide the key out of ignition while vehicle is in drive.*sb

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. When the key was placed into the ignition he notice that it would not turn. He experienced the failure several times but eventually the key turned. On august 31, 2010 the ignition failed; yet, the key no longer turned. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer will be contacted. The failure and the current mileages were 76,000.

My 2003 honda civic vin #[xxx]purchased new in 2003., now have 79,449 odometer reading.sincei got it, sometimes when i insert the ignition key to start the car the key would not turn to starting positiion it just stucked in the keyhole. I remove the key and try to shake and turn the steering wheel and/or step on the gas pedal, then reinsert the key to start the car. Somtimes itstart , at times it takes 2-4times then the key turns to startthe car. This happens ocassionally but lately more frequently about 80% every time . I read in the october 2010 consumer reports magazine that there is a recall of 2003-04 honda accord, civic and element with the problem that the interlock lever of the ignition switch might deform interfering with the automatic transmission. I called dick hannah honda where i bought mycar and asked them about this recall. They informedme that they do not have the list of recalled 2003 civics at this time. I would like to file this safety problemto your office that my vehicle have this "ignition switch" problem.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic . The contact stated that the keys would come out of the ignitionwhen the vehicle was not shifted in the park position. The failure also occurred when the vehicle was shifted in drive. The dealer was contacted and advisedher that her vehicle was not associated with any recalls. The failure was not diagnosed and no repairs were made. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 180000.

- the contact stated while driving the2003 honda civic hibrid ( at 50 mph andmerging onto the interstate the vehicle began to lose power.it regained power by accelerating, but the vehicle jerked back and forward. The vehicle had to be driven slowly until it got up to proper speed.the mechanic stated that the egr valve, the starter gear and the flywheelfailed.the vehicle wasstill not working properly.

Driver side headlight stopped working on dim only.changed bulb, but this bulb also did not work on dim.verified the bulb was good by trying it on the passenger side.the next day, the driver side headlight just started working again.3 weeks later it went out again.this time i traced the wiring back inside the car to the "inside" fuse box.the wiring that goes out to that headlight comes from a plug that plugs into this fuse box.after "wiggling" this plug, the headlight came back on.however i can "wiggle" it and make it go off also.just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

The airbag does not work at all..and ive always had a problem with the headlights fogging all the time....

The failure is a software defect, which causes the engine to stop running at random, unpredictable times, under unpredictable conditions.it has occurred four times with my vehicle, and luckily, not in dangerous circumstances.the only way to restart the engine is to bring the vehicle to a complete stop, put it in park, turn off the key completely, wait a minute, then turn the ignition to start.if it were to occur in traffic, as on the interstate, this would be a very dangerous situation.i have taken the car to the dealer for this problem, who says he cannot address it because he cannot observe it occurring,he also says that the problem is the responsibility of honda corp, since it is a design issue.

To verify my defective actuator claims.. All of my repair history is located at boch honda,279 providence highway, norwood ma. 02062 781-619-6776i purchased new a 2003 honda civic ex (7/2003) . Since i purchased it, i have had numerous documented issues with drivers side door lock . I had the door actuator replaced twice first 7/20/13 my milage being 44,129 and again now 8/19/19 with only 71,718 miles. On 1/25/14 i was unable to open drivers side door and i had to have tumblers replace and lock cylinder replaced. The past 3 years i have commented and had them check the drivers side door several times because of lock noise and alignment. I have all my repairs done at the dealership where i purchased the car so they can provide my complete vehicle repair history if needed. My car is in a garage so it is less exposed to the elements and i never wait to have any concerned checked and take great care to keep my car safe.my car has always been stationary when the problem arose in park or when i am opening and closing the door. I have a recorded video of the actual noise the lock made from 8/19/19 before the repair was made. I had my vehicle in 4 times in the last month for a airbag recall and a routine maintenance and a gas door issues that had been previously repaired am mented each time the noise of the lock was getting louder.

Vehicle steering wheel violently jerks back and forth when shifting automatically resulting in no control of vehicle.vehicle does not lock doors.dealership failed to complete or inform me of any kinds of hazards as i overlooked these major problems when purchased used car. I paid over 3400 dollars for junk.

I rear ended a vehicle that came to a sudden complete stop, i was going approximately 30 mph, (the roadway was 45 but i had started to slow as i slammed on my brakes). The collision was full frontal impact and my airbags did not deploy. I hit my head on the steering wheel despite having a seat belt on. I am having a mechanic investigate why my airbags did not deploy, but it concerns me as i was injured in the crash. I went to the emergency room and i have whip lash, muscle spasms and muscle tension in my neck and back. I feel that these injuries could have been avoided if the air bags had deployed. My lawyer advised me to file a complaint here as well as with honda about this incident.

On halloween night 10/31/2015, after getting home from taking kids trick-or-treating i was leaving to go to store. While i was backing out of the drive-way i realized i forgot my wallet inside. So i opened the door & went to step out, then noticed i was sticking out in the street a little bit. So i left my left leg out & door open because i was only going to pull forward a couple feet. When i put the car in drive & barely pushed the gas pedal, the gas pedal forced itself to the floor & the car accelerated very quickly. I had no control of the car & tried everything i could to stop it! but it was too late.... The car shot us through the garage door where my leg & foot hit the rock siding entrance going into garage. It also twisted my leg all around & was pinned in between car and garage wall. The car came to a stop when it took my brand new motorcycle i had only owned for 3 weeks & smashed it into the wall!!! it completely totaled my motorcycle. But i was so badly messed up & hurt i couldn't even hardly walk or put any weight on my left leg. After months of physical therapy & lots of doctor bills i am healed, for the most part. I contacted honda & they did an inspection of the vehicle but didn't find anything wrong with it & released it as a safe driveable vehicle. So i was left with about $15,000 worth of damage including my brand new motorcycle. My full coverage insurance only paid about 3/4 of what i paid for the bike. This was one of the most traumatic crazy things to ever happen to us! im just so lucky & glad that one of the kids wasn't in the garage playing or anyone else got hurt! this could've been sooo much worse than it already was!!!

My honda civic suddenly went dead with no indication of failure. The transmission went dead and the repair shop said that it was a incorrect gearbox ratio. It is a known problem with transmission failure and i feel that i shouldn't have to pay for something that is a known problem.

I was driving south bound on the 215 shortly before the exit, mills, there was a cone laying on its side in the middle of the road that i was not able to see from a distance because the color of the cone was facing forward . By the time i was able to realize what it was, i could not avoid it and go to another lane because i was in the middle of two cars, which probably would have caused much more damage then there is if i attempted to do so. As a result the cone cracked my front bumper on the right hand side in the shape of a v, there was a little steam coming from my engine and there seems to be some kind of leak now, as well as some black rubber type thing that looks like its supposed to be over the tire was dragging.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. While driving 45 mph, smoke started to emit from the engine compartment. As a result, the vehicle was merged to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the timing belt and transmission cooler line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 178,000.

My vehicle has been going hot since november 2013. I have replaced the water pump, radiator, fan switches, head gasket, valve gasket seal/cover, engine. When i'm sitting idle in traffic for a while it will run hot or at least appear to run hot because the temperature gauge will go all the way to hot. I have read a few blogs and spoken to a honda specialist and he confirmed what i read about civics ranging from 2001 to 2004 are notorious for running hot. I was told that you have to replace everything like the water pump or radiator as well as the head gasket at the same time to stop this from reoccurring. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to repair this issue. I just want honda to be take accountability because it is not an isolated incident. This matter needs to be looked into and a recall should be created.these are some of the blogs i have read. - contact stated that on the evening of april 9, 2007 while driving at 35 to 40 mph in light highway traffic, the contact heard a loud noise from under the 2003 honda civic hybrid. The check engine light turned on, and transmission gear shifted from drive to neutral.the contact noticed that the rpms went up to 4000, but the vehicle was not accelerating. The vehicle lost power, and would only drive at about 15 to 20 mph. The contact was waiting for honda to inspect the vehicle.the current and failure mileage were 83,000.

My 03 honda civic hybrids electric (hybrid) motor needed replacing.

Consumer states that when the vehicle is cold the vehicle will not idle. Dealer notified.

Transmission hesitates.manufacturer changes the transmission fluid, but does not repair.manufacturer will not solve the problem only bandaids this recurring problem.vehicle hesitates and shutters during acceleration which can be dangerous in intersections and in general traffic.this is occurring on several years of this vehicle according to websites i have read.the vehicle has also gone through two replacement of the catalytic converter.

2003 civic, highway miles of 49,800.car overheated very quickly on the highway, pulled over, got hotter and hotter with steam everywhere.dealership towed it to their garage and gave us loaner car.dealership extended 36000/3year warranty to 50000 by the way.techs said they had never seen such a mess. Radiator literally *melted into the engine*, they said.i read about head gasket problems on some online honda owner groups, so i asked if that is what happened, and they said it was definitely blown, but can't determine if that happened first or the radiator failed.it took them four days to determine that *maybe* a rock hit the radiator on the highway causing a slow leak.my insurance guy looked at the car and will not pay because honda cannot prove any kind of highway *accident* happened.they can't even get it to leak or find a hole, but with pressure they can see a *wet spot* on the radiator.and... They will not honor the 50000 extended warranty because i did not get every oil change and recommended service at the dealership.this car is not even 2 years old.we bought a honda because it can take the high highway mileage.we even just bought a honda van last month because of honda's longevity and reputation.this car should not be blowing an engine at this age.this has to be some kind of defect.

Catalytic converter and o2 sensors continually need replacement.

In august of 2006 my vehicle overheated for the first time.i promptly took it in and they fixed an "air hose leak".after that my car overheated every few weeks without warning and after coolant had been found leaked into the engine a new thermostat was installed.it overheated a month later and the whole engine needed to be replaced.

Air conditioning condenser is too low to the ground and fully exposed to stones, sand and road debris that kicks up from the highway.my condenser originally had black paint on it but it now is dented, leaks and looks sandblasted and is blocked full of road salt causing the defrost function and the air conditioning to fail and freon 134a to be exhausted into the atmosphere causing environmental damage because of this poor unprotected design.recommend the manufacturer be compelled to make available some form of protective measure to prevent this premature failure of the windshield defrost function and air conditioning system.

The air conditioner on my 2003 honda civic si stopped working suddenly after a loud breaking sound came out of the car.i took it to the honda dealership and the diagnosis is that the compressor exploded and caused metal shaving to go into the entire air conditioner system.the dealership has told me that the air conditioner system will need to be totally replaced.the estimate for the work is $2600.00.

New years day,i got off the freeway and my steering wheel locked and my clutch stiffened. Seconds later they resumed their normal feel but my battery and temp light came on and smoke/steam came out of my hood. I pulled over and opened the hood...coolant resevoir was almost completely empty and coolant had exploded all over the engine.i had the car towed to the dealership for warranty review.they called and said no coverage, they believe that a rock had punctured the radiator and hence it was not a parts problem.since, i have reviewed numerous complaints about rocks puncturing car internal parts, specifically honda's.this is a poor design and in other circumstances this could have been a very dangerous situation.it should not take a death to call attention to a company who is selling cars which are not properly designed for highway driving conditions.since i had just gotten off the freeway, i was able to pull over right away and cease any further damage.parts and labor will cost me 1000.00 for a 3 year old car that was bought with an extended warranty (which cost a couple thousand dollars at time of purchase).i am outraged and disappointed with honda.

Gear shift failed to shift into first gear.there was also a loud ticking coming from the engine.ph

The peeling metal plating on the interior door handles causes cuts to fingers and hands.they range from severe paper cuts to deep finger cuts.the chrome plating on the interior door handles peel and create sharp edges that cut and draw blood.this occurs when the door is opened.our whole family had cuts especially my daughter.

The door will not lock using the key. The key either gets jammed in the door or wont go in. When it does go in, it wont come back out. Frustrated because i cant lock/unlock my car without a break-in kit.

My vehicle (2003 honda civic si) caught on fire on sept 13th night around 9:45pm.while i was driving to home from a movie theater, somebody from another vehicle spotted the fire and stopped me.i got out of the vehicle, looked under the car, there was a fire between two front tires.i called 911, police and fire responded and put off the fire from inside the passenger compartment.my insurance company investigated and blamed on jiffy lube, who changed the oil on the same day evening around 6:30. Jiffy lube went with some independent investigation and concluded that changing the oil didn't cause the fire and blamed on manufacturer problem. Both investigation conclusions are similar. Conclusion from insurance party ( mde engineers inc)origin of fire was at the exhaust pipe near the flange. Cause of fire was the air conditioner (a/c) drain tube from the ventilation box contacting the exhaust pipe. Conclusion from jiffy lube party (schaefer enginerring)cause of fire was an a/c condensate drain hose coming in contact with the vehicle exhaust pipe. Hose was probably not properly mounted during the manufacturing and allowed the hose to move and contact the exhaust pipe.*la

A/c condenser leaked due to design flaw that allows road debris to hit condenser directly and cause damage, leak, and failure for cold a/c flow.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The air conditioner unit does not blow cold air. In may 2006, the dealer replaced the condenser.in may 2007, the condenser failed again.the dealer will repair the vehicle at the owners expense. The air conditioner still does not operate normally. The current mileage is 65000 and the original failure mileage was 45000.updated 01/11/08.*ljthe consumer stated there is lack of protection offered behind the vents at the bottom of the front bumper to protect the ac condenser from being damaged by road debris. I had to repair a known headlight issue for 2003 civics.the lights stopped working on dim, and the wires had completely melted as described in the recall information for affected civics.my vin is not listed as part of the recall.also, my gear selector can be accidentally placed into neutral without pressing a brake or button on the knob.for example, my daughter reached to change the radio station, and accidentally hit the gear selector.the car shifted to neutral (automatic transmission) without pressing of break or button.we were in motion, and at first, i thought something was wrong with the car, and i looked down to realize it had been placed into neutral.this has happened several times on accident.i purchased this vehicle in 2003 brand new from a honda dealership, and i am the only owner.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that while traveling 30 mph, the headlights failed and the vehicle crashed into a yield sign.there were no injuries and the police were contacted.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the vin qualified for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number:12v136000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 133,000.

The contact received notifications for nhtsa campaign number: 14v351000 (air bags), nhtsa campaign number: 14v394000 (air bags) and nhtsa campaign number: 12v136000 (exterior lighting). However, the parts needed were unavailable to repair the vehicle. The dealer was unable to inform when the parts would become available. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, with the headlights activated the driver's side low beam headlight failed to illuminate. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer which made the repairs under a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number12v136000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch). The contact stated less than twenty four hours after the repair was performed the air bag warning indicator began to illuminate continuously and the driver's side low beam headlight malfunction continued to occur. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who informed the owner would be responsible for the repair expense; even though the recall remedy failed to correct the problem.the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Called the dealership for an appointment and was given one over 60 days beyond the days date. The recall is for airbags and is a clear safety risk to drivers. They will sell vehicles but will not repair their mistakes in a reasonable amount of time.

2003 civic hybrid- 80k miles. Bought in 2006 with 60k miles.the vehicle hesitates when accelerating from a stop.there is about a 5-8 second delay in pressing the gas and the car going, which has caused me to almost be rear ended a few times.the vehicle also slows down extremely rapidly when the foot is removed from the gas pedal.even with no pressure applied to the break pedal.to ordinary (not hybrid) cars, it seems like i am pressing my brake, they just see me slowing down, but there are no lights to warn them, i have almost been in two really bad car accidents that were avoided by mere inches when:on the highway i have taken my foot off the accelerator to slow my vehicle, but i did not need the breaks since the car slowed down so fast on it's own.i threw on my emergency lights and tapped the brake to signal to cars behind me who were moving much faster still.i think that honda should put in smaller lights or a different safety light when you remove your foot from the accelerator on the civic hybrids, to avoid rear-ending accidents due to rapid decrease in speed with no usage of the braking system. History of problem:during test drive vehicle made slight shudder noise and hesitation before starting to accelerate.the dealer told me that it was a normal noise for hybrids.i foolishly believed him.a few months later the shuddering was worse and i knew that it wasn't a normal noise for any transmission to be making at 60,000 miles! over the last 2 years i have taken the car to the dealership many times to "fix" this problem, which is only patched up and the shuddering comes back a few thousand miles later.honda knows about this problem and has a service bulletin for it, yet their dealerships try to put off fixing the problem until someone's warranty is almost over, or over. Honda needs to be held responsible for this faulty vehicle.a recall should be done at the very least, to fix the cars driving around with bad transmissions.

The airbag does not work at all..and ive always had a problem with the headlights fogging all the time....

Driving vehicle, (2003 honda civic), during predawn hours on unlit portion of town road.proceeding around a bend in the road, vehicle suddenly lost both low beam headlights.fortunately, was able to safely pull vehicle to a stop without going off the road.this needs to be investigated!!!vehicle high beams work and all other lighting appears to be fine.

2003 honda civic ex over 125k miles low beams will turn off by themselves while driving at night any speed.high beams and interior lights are not affected.this is not the first time this happened, but i do not drive in the evening very often.on july 10, 2010 my lights shut off 4 times in a 210 mile trip at speeds ranging from 40 - 70 mph.the first time i experienced this was in january 2009.updated 01/04/2012 *ln

One or more headlights often do not light when turned on. Plug on headlight is not loose, fuses and relays have been replaced.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that the low beams were inoperable and had to utilize the high beam light for illumination. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. . the failure and current mileage was 140,000. Updated 10/12/11*ljupdated 02/24/12 ...updated 03/30/12

I have a 2003 honda civic ex with the same problem listed in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v086000 my car was not included in the recall.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that the headlight failed while leaving a parking area and caused the contact to crash into a proceeding vehicle. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic whom located the failure at the headlight wiring system. The headlight assembly was replaced. The contact mentioned that recall nhtsa campaign id number: 12v136000 (exterior lighting: headlights: switch) was received after the failure occurred. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000 and the current mileage was 130,222.

2003 civic hybrid throw p1491 code for clogged egr.honda has issued a warranty extension for the same code for the odyssey, but won't acknowledge the same problem with the hybrid.i can't find the dealer service bulletin details for the root cause of the problem with the odyssey.

Catalytic converter failure73,860 miles my car needed the first catalytic converter replaced, covered under warranty93,807 miles my car needed the second catalytic converter replaced, honda helped with cost113654 miles, my cars check engine light came on with the same diagnostic code p1420, dealer did software update and said everything was fine.118,000 miles, my car is back in the shop needing a new catalytic converterall this work performed at dealersomething must be wrong, causing catalytic converter failure.

We purchased a 2003 honda chc in 2006 with approximately 34,000 miles.as of january 2010, the car has 155,010 miles.from the date of purchase, there has been a shudder when decelerating from 40+ mph.we have only taken the car to our local honda dealership for repair and maintenance and have been repeatedly told that there is nothing wrong with the car and that shudder is from an "overload".taking the service department at their word, we have never had any repair work done to remove the shudder or taken the car to another dealer.over time the shudder has gotten worse.we have also experienced a hesitation when accelerating and then the car will suddenly lurch forward when it hits gear.again, we were told that there wasn't anything wrong with the car and that we should expect hesitation when the car is switching from battery power to engine power.about 4 months ago, the check engine light came on and we were told that the catalytic converter was in need of replacement.we were given two options-immediate repair or drive until the catalytic converter completely fails.recently the ima light came on and we took the car for diagnosis.the response was that the battery pack needed to be replaced.in addition, we were told that the transmission is beginning to fail.to replace the cvt transmission, battery pack and catalytic converter will cost approximately $7,500.as i have read the other complaints not only from this site, but also other sites on the internet, i now suspect that we have been experiencing transmission problems all along.we have had several other honda vehicles.we purchased this vehicle because of the reliability we have come to expect from honda.$7,500 or more in repairs is unreasonable for any car under 8 years old, especially a honda.

Our 2003 honda civic's gas tank cable that locks the filler snapped making it unable to unlock or re-fuel the vehicle.happened as we were on highway and needed gas and went to gas station, unable to put any gasoline in the vehicle and we were running out of fuel.went to open road honda who had to order cable and install it.waited 5 hrs for them to get the part as it was not in their stockroom.they installed new cable and we were then able to re-fuel.

I have had horrible health issues the passed years. It came down to long term chemical exposure. My honda civic 2003 was leaking gas fumes from the fuel pump under the backseat. I took it to dealership and they confirmed the fuel pump leak. It was cracked on top of the fuel pump, its exactly the same recall issue of the 2011 fuel pump from the honda civic 2011. I have high levels of gas on a blood test of ethylbenzene and m,p, xylene, - gasoline chemicals. I think all honda civic owners need to be aware of the cracking of the fuel pumps, that can start a fire or like myself cause health issues from breathing it in for a long time. If it is already an issue on the 2011 models, i'm living proof its a health issue and danger for the 2003. This should be looked into and a possible recalled. Thank you,

Fuel door on my 2003 honda civic doesnt have a emergency relase mechonism or way to open the fuel door in an emergency.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic.the contact pushed the release button for the fuel door on his vehicle, but it would not open.after several attempts, she was still unable to open the fuel door.the dealer stated that the cause of the failure was the fuel door release cable.the vehicle was out of warranty; therefore, the contact would have to pay $190.03 for the repairs.the current mileage was 33,813 and failure mileage was 33,800.

My 2003 honda civic hybrid has a faulty seat belt. The belt locks up as the passenger tries to bring it forward. This condition also occurred in my other 4 honda cars. The seat belts also tend to ratchet up after being connected and cause discomfort to the passenger as they become excessively tight. The dealer claims that (1) the ratcheting of the seat belts is associated with child safety protection and (2) the ratcheting should only occur when the belt is extended far out for attaching to a child safety seat. I have duplicated the problem in the presence of the service mgr. The dealer alleges to have replaced the front passenger seat belt; however the problem continues. I have had other experiences with american honda allegedly replacing a part (reference complaint # 10008215, ignition switch recall) only to find that hondas statements and claims are highly questionable. I now ask myself whether honda might be engaging in deceptive and fraudulent practices to protect its profit line in disregard of the safety of its customers. Honda has failed to respond to my concerns about the advertised fuel economy of the hybrid. After meeting with a customer service representative, eric catherine, from american honda on 3/24/03, the representative made certain commitments to address my concerns and promised to get back with me in a couples of days. one of the commitments was to perform a fuel consumption test on my hybrid. As of 6/12/03, neither the representative nor anyone from american honda has lived up to their commitments. According to the fuel economy guide posted on the vehicle, the hybrid is supposed to get 48 mpg/city and 47 mpg/highway. Even the fine print states that the actual mileage should range between 40 56 in the city and 39-55 on the highway. I have been tracking/documenting my actual mpg. My mpg has never exceeded 35. Since fuel economy is the primary reason for purchasing the hybrid, potential customers should be extremely skeptical of the claims.

Consumer stated a smell of gas was penetrating throughout the vehicle. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer on 4 separate occasions. However, the problem recurred.dealer indicated that the gas used from texaco had too much sulfur , thus burning out the sensor. Dealer drained the fuel , cleaned the line, removed the sending unit, and filled the vehicle with new gasoline. However problem recurred.

I purchased a honda civic hybrid thinking i was going to get good gas milage since i drive 38 miles one way to work. When i was only getting about 35 -26 mph i contacted the dealer and was told this is a new car and the mileage will improve. So after 35000 miles and many trips to the dealer i still only get 36 mphand they can not explain why, i would like to know how they can say that this car was to get 48 mpgh. Also after two months of having the car i was hearing a loud grinding sound coming from the front end and it turned out the shocks were bad, and the dealer replaced them but failed to aline my car and wore out the front tires. Also i can not take this car on long trips since i can not climb long hills with out the highvoltage battery that assists the engine running out of juice and stops working and stalls.

Cvt transmission problems, egr valve problems, oxygen sensor and catalytic converter problems, all items had to be replaced over the last 2 years-most recent catalytic converter.

Gas leak because of faulty fuil filter that sits on top of tank under back seat. So many honda civic have had this problem should be a recall

The car was not in an incident it has a lot of recalls i would like fixed

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. While driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked back and forth. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the fuel system failed. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to check the vin on the nhtsa website. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Regarding 2003 honda civic ex manual trans at times without any warning the car will act as though it has no fuel and once it starts will drive fine then after stopping for example at a intersection when ready to accelerate once again the car will act as if it is going to stall in 1st but seem to get burst of fuel and propel very suddenly drive normal for a few seconds and then do same scenario of being out of gas if gas is depressed somewhat as though im attempting to race it will start to resolve and it hapeens so quick im not even ready to go to 2nd gear once i do it acts slightly the same way but not as bad maybe 25% less i then make it to third and then 4th with no problems. And also let me assure you the car is never at anything lower than 1/2 tank to full fuel wise. Along with these symptoms described twice for 3 days it has just not started again as thoug h it were empty and then im ready to have it towed after checkimg it every day and both times on the 3rd day it starts as though there was no prob with it.

The fuel pump module plastic top developed small stress cracks on it and sprayed fuel onto the exhaust pipe causing a potential fire hazard. I drove this defect for about two months and did not know where the fuel odor was coming from until the leak got worse and leaked onto the ground from the top of the fuel tank. The dealer refused to submit my repair claim for warranty or safety repair consideration nor forward this safety defect investigation request to the factory.i replaced the entire fuel punp module at my expense to remedy the large fuel leak.

The top of the fuel pump housing, where it protrudes from the fuel tank, is made of plastic and has developed cracks from which gasoline is oozing. The amount of gasoline leaking is substantial, and it collects in the depression around the housing.this is an apparent fire hazard, as well as a source of gasoline evaporation air pollution.while looking for a replacement part online, it became apparent that this is a very common problem in honda civic's. Because this is a common problem that may not be readily observable by the owner, it is likely to go undetected and therefore unrepaired for an extended period, thus creating a longterm potential fire hazard and air pollution risk.

My wife and i have owned our 2003 honda civic since it was new.anyhow, a couple of weeks ago my wife noticed a very strong odor of gasoline from both in and around the vehicle.after a few days of looking under the car and not able to detect the problem, i removed the rear seat andnoticed a large amount of gasoline under the seat.i removed the hatch to the fuel pump and noticed that the fuel pumpassembly had numerous hair line cracks on the top area and when the car was in the on position, fuel was pouring out and going under the rear seat bottom.i have since ordered a replacement fuel pump assembly unit.anyhow, this avery dangerous situation and could have had deadly effects as the electronics that charge the fuel pump are right where the gas was leaking. Additionally, if the driver of the car was a smoker, who knows what may have taken place.this issue is clearly a design flaw and i'm sure additional years of this model civic have this same fuel pump assembly unit. The part number is:17045-s5a-a31 (kautex.

On may 31, 2011 i nearly died while traveling on interstate 95 because all electric/battery power in my honda civic hybrid ceased.the car went from traveling at 70 mph to 0 mhp, with scant time for me to safely retreat to an emergency highway shoulder. This situation was extremely life threatening for me and all persons traveling near me on interstate 95.to avoid a highway collision maryland state troopers assisted with flares and lights to warn and redirect traffic.i have never been in an accident and my 2003(2004?) honda civic hybrid is in otherwise good condition.a diagnostic test performed at o?donnell honda service center in catonsville maryland (o?donnell honda) revealed the following fault codes: 1435-charge/discharge balance and 1570- battery module individual voltage input.to repair my civic hybrid, o?donnell honda service center completely replaced the integrated motor assist battery assembly and motor control module.a substantial number of civic hybrid owners have complained to american honda motor corporation about ima battery pack replacements, mcm replacements and exorbitant replacement costs with a trend of replacements becoming necessary after reaching 100,000 miles traveled on the car.(see http://corporate.honda.com/press/article.aspx?id=2003112038200, http://www.hybridcars.com/forums/2003-hch-battery-t1155.html , http://www.hybridcars.com/forums/2003-hch-battery-t1155.html , http://www.hybridcars.com/forums/civic-hybrid-battery-ima-problems.html,http://www.amid.com/werd/hybrid-woe-ima-battery/ ).the bottom line is that my honda civic hybrid was either manufactured or designed with dangerous defects in the integrated motor assist (ima) battery assembly and motor control module (mcm)and. These cars should not be driven on the highway without mass consumer and highway safety awareness of this condition.i have incurred over 1k in replacement costs for the defective parts. I am terrified that battery failure will occur again.

The key will not go into the door lock cylinder, or if it goes in, it will not turn.honda has a service bulletin about this problem - 03-068 but does not fix them for free unless you are under warranty.cars need to be recalled and door fixed for free.

Several interior controls, such as door handles and the parking brake, are metalized plastics.as the car ages, the metal plating starts to peal off.as it comes off in pieces, it presents a sharp edge that can cut the user.we have had three different instances of hand cuts that could have led to accidents as the driver attempts to keep blood from the cut from getting on clothing, car interior, etc.the dealer replaced a door handle, at my cost, on the first instance.subsequently we have tried to remove the rest of the plating from the effected parts.unfortunately, the remaining fragments still adhere well to the parts for now and degrade slowly.i fully expect to sustain similar injuries in the future as the deterioration continues.

The key lock on my 2003 honda civic no longer works.it seems as if a different key is needed to open door and quite often the key will not go into the lock.when it does go in, the lock is stiff or frozen and will not turn.i originally thought this was a random issue but have encountered 3 other civic owners with the same problem.

Can not lock/unlock driver side door using key.other honda owner is complaining as well. Honda dealer want to charge to replace actuator when they are faculty and need to be recalled and replaced.

Complaints with 2003 honda civic alarm system. *mr the alarm would not shut when using the valet key, the door did not lock properly.the remote was replaced and the problem remained the same.the vehicle did not possess and open door indicator.the consumer seeked a request for arbitration and reimbursement. *sc

The transmission went from drive to neutral while driving.

Driving on highway and suddenly transmission shifted down into 1st gear and stuck. I called honda care (2003 honda civic hybrid) and asked them to pay for these repairs because of a long history of problems with this transmission.they have issued an extended warranty (7yrs/100,000miles) for this transmission to avoid a recall, but will not let me use it because the car carries a salvage title...which has nothing to do with the transmission that has been a problem for this vehicle from the beginning.if there had been a recall on this transmission, they would be required to replace it.they are somehow getting around a recall by saying it isn't a safety issue.but, i disagree.if i had been driving this highway at normal traffic hours, i would have been rear-ended at 60+mph.that is a safety issue, and thousands of people are having the same experience.they should be forced to do a recall.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. While attempting to accelerate, the vehicle jerked and failed to accelerate. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the cvt transmission needed to be drained and burnished. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 300,000.

When driving the car at highway speeds, if i let off the accelerator and coast, the manual transmission pops out of 5th into neutral.

Transmission wouldn't respond lost control hit tree

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that when driving the vehicle while the engine was cold, the vehicle would exhibit difficulty in shifting from second to third gear. The contact stated that the problem did not occur when the engine reached optimal operating temperature. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. The failure mileage was 76,900 and the current mileage was 88,400.

My honda civic suddenly went dead with no indication of failure. The transmission went dead and the repair shop said that it was a incorrect gearbox ratio. It is a known problem with transmission failure and i feel that i shouldn't have to pay for something that is a known problem.

The contact owned a 2003 honda civic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

Transmission failed and car died while driving on highway at 55 mph with no warning.was in slow lane and able to get onto shoulder without getting hit.transmission had to be replaced.

While my vehicle was still under warranty, i took my car to the dealer with a slipping/shuddering problem.they changed the transmission fluid and the problem seemed to go away.the problem re-curred and i took it back again.again they changed the fluid.by the third time i took the vehicle back a third time, for the same problem, the vehicle was out of warranty.now i am finding out, only after researching the issue myself, that the belt is the problem and that the issue is consistent with 2003 to 2005 models.the problem is becoming worse and now my car is bucking when i try to start out from a stop.i am afraid to drive because of the fear or the car stalling at inopportune times and i am distracted by the issue.

Transmission slip for 20 min when i first start the car then it shift hard after that .seat belt light always on.

While attempting to enter an intersection my 2003 honda civic hybrid was unable to accelerate due to a slipping transmission. I was almost hit by another vehicle who was able to avoid me.

For several years now my car has been vibrating and jolting when i accelerate from a stop. Especially when going uphill. I took it in to a honda dealer for repairs and was told the only solution was to "burnish" it and it should help, although only temporarily. The burnishing helped only slightly, and before long my car was back to vibrating and jolting just as badly as before. I was told this was not a hazardous condition, so i have just lived with it for awhile now, but it would be nice to fix! it seems this is something that honda should address if it is in fact such a common condition and has been addressed overseas. Please help convince honda to address this problem!

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid.while driving, the contact stated that the vehicle would hesitate when shifting into gear.the dealer replaced the battery and clutch fluid in an attempt to repair the defect, but the failure recurred.the manufacturer was not contacted.the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 139,000. The vin was unavailable.

Went to leave walmart around 7 pm.car wouldn't move...cvt trans, hybrid..

Honda civic hybrids with the cvt transmission develop what hondarefers to as a judder. What is actually happening is the "startclutch" in the transmission slips during take off from a stop andcauses the car to judder or shake. When this happens in any conditionother than perfectly dry roads you can temporarily lose control of the vehicle because the vehicle is front wheel drive and the frontwheels can lose traction and spin. I have even had this happen when the front tires are sitting on the painted white line found at most intersections. Honda is very aware of the problem. There are thousands of complaints documented online, yet honda has been very reluctant to properly address the situation.honda claims this is not a safety issue, but i have temporarily lost control of my car on wet roads several times. I can't imagine trying to drive one in the snow. Here are a couple of links that will take you to discussiongroups about this problem. Http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/ view/.f0b3259/262http://www.cngchat.com/forum/showthread.php? 266-2001-2005-cvt-transmission-warranty-extension-for-slip-judderhonda has extended the warranty period for this problem. In my specific case they kept ignoring my request to rebuild the transmission until i was beyond the extended warranty. In my case i filed a complaint with honda american and negotiated to split the cost with them. There are a lot of people out there who have not been so lucky and have had to pay in full for the repairs.

Since the purchase of my 2003 honda civic hybrid the car has stuttered when taking off from a stop. My wife took it back to the dealer and they told her it was "normal" for a hybrid. I have since researched this and found this is not normal and would like honda to replace the transmission.

There is a known problem with honda civic hybrid cvt transmission:"a shudder or judder up to 15 mph requires honda to drain and burnishthe 2003-2005 honda hybrid cvt clutch.honda will check the egr valveduring this service too. Honda tech article# ats06070"my 2003 civic is having this problem, which is unsafe because the transmission stutters to engage when starting out from a stop, which can be dangerous if you need to get going quickly to get out of the way.

My 2003 honda civic hybrid has a shudders on start-up from a stop.was told that changing the cvt fluid twice fixes the problem and that honda has posted a technical bulletin about this issue.other hch owners have stated that changing the cvt fluid is only a temporary fix and that it is really a faulty clutch problem.why isn't honda being held accountable to recall and fix this problem?

The air bags in my vehicle did not deploy in a front end collision that i was involved in.it caused me to fly forward and injure myself, almost hitting the front windshield.in addition to this problem, i have discovered that the cigarette lighter plug-in does not work in my vehicle.i have found that the transmission in my vehicle had a defective part that a car repair man fixed.

After numerous problems with our 2003 honda civic hybrid, the cvt transmission is slipping so badly the car can barely take off from a stop and peters out when going up a hill. This latest problem occurred soon after the transmission judder problem was corrected under warranty. Now american honda is having the dealership replace the entire transmission on warranty. Although this is a known issue with the 2003 cvt transmission, american honda continues to refuse to issue a full recall, claiming it is not a safety issue. We have a recording on our answering machine from the assistant service manager at our honda dealership saying that the car is not safe to drive. There are many more 2003 honda civic hybrids on the road with this serious issue. Fortunately, we have not been involved in a crash with this unsafe vehicle. I understand that the japanese government mandated a recall for this generation of honda cvt transmissions in japan and parts of southeast asia. Hopefully, the nhtsa will see to it that this faulty vehicle?s problems are addressed in our great country as well.

After numerous transmission problems with my 2003 honda civic hybrid, the transmission failed completely while i was driving on us 11 in berwick pa.fortunately did not cause a crash.honda dealer says the car needs an entire transmission.

While parked in a parking garage, i was backing my car out of a space. When about 90% out of the space, the car suddenly shifted into drive (without my help) and slammed into the wall in front of which i had been parked. The airbags went off, and the front of the car is really banged up.

Car is sluggish when taking off and driving.have read that this is a common problem with the transmission (cvt).

My 2003 honda civic hybrid worked fine until ~50000 miles (~3 years of ownership.)at that time, the transmission began to cause the car to lurch forward when driving at speeds from 5-15 mph.after a few months, the problem was severe enough that i no longer felt safe driving the car to work in traffic whose speed would cause the car to lurch forward repeatedly instead of maintain a smooth speed.i took the vehicle to the dealership twice to get them to fix the problem, but although they could duplicate the problem - they claimed the car had no fixable problems.reading from other civic hybrid owners has shown that this problem is very common and expensive to fix.

2003 honda civic hybrid with numerous problems with car shuddering when slowing down and then taking off again. This has been occurring regularly since july 2, 2007 at 74,000 miles. It has been in the dealer 6 times for this cvt slippage. The very first documented problem however was april 20, 2003 at 9783 miles with the transmission slipping when placed into reverse and then suddenly catching. The slippage is worst in hot weather. Been brought in and misdiagnosed or delaying tactics to circumvent the extended warranty by the honda dealer each time. This isdespite a safety recall for this very same problem in japan, india, and indonesia, honda notified nhsta in a letter to associate administrator mr. Kenneth weinstein of the office of safety assurance of this recall in those countries.. Since than american honda extended the warranty on the cvt to 100,000 miles but according to all the complaint sites i have been able to monitor honda instead uses delaying tactics until the extended warranty runs out. This is a safety issue, as can be seen by the numerous near miss testimonials onyour nhtsa filed complaint narratives. I am a ems battalion captain for a major metropolitan fire/rescue department and respond to deaths and serious injuries on a daily basis. I am also a respected public safety advocate and the initiator of senate bill 486. I believe this issue warrants serious investigation. I believe deaths and serious injuries have probably already occurred from this safety hazard but were never reported nor recognized as to the cause.please investigate.

I purchased the car used in 2006 with 21,000 miles.the transmission failed at 56,000 miles (1/27/08). Told needed transmission overhaul.the transmission also failed again at 89,000 (2/4/09) miles, requiring another transmission overhaul. 6 months later experiencing similar symptoms (shuddering/shake/vibration between 30-50 mph) as before took it to aamco to get an outside opinion and i am told the torque converter is failing and if not replaced will cause transmission failure once again. The car currently has 124,000 miles on it. So much for honda reliability.

Have an 03 civic hybrid with cvt transmission. I got it certified used at about 36,000 miles and it was supposed to have fresh trans fluid and i believe it did. The powertrain is warranted to 100,000 miles since it was certified used. I am at 74,000 now. At about 66,000, when it should have been due for it's transmission fluid change, it was making a slipping/grinding sound when starting off, especially on a hill. It had previously been very smooth and quiet. It gradually became a problem. It was not all of a sudden. It was hard to know for sure that it was not my imagination, except for it being real obvious on an incline and it was getting worse. The dealer's mechanic heard the sound, too, and said let's start with the fluid change it was due for. The change made it great again, but only for a few thousand miles. When i went back they said they had learned about a process called burnishing the transmission band. I believe they put their foot on the brake while putting on the gas, almost to the point of stalling (i think) to clean up the band. Mine would be the 2nd car they would do it on. It also requires a change of fluid after because it is supposed to take the crud from the parts and put it into the fluid. They did it for free since i had already asked them to work on this problem, and i had paid for the fluid change to fix the same problem. Again, after their work it was nice and quiet and smooth, but about 3,000 miles later it is coming back again. I don't know if their process did anything, or if it was just the fresh fluid that helped like it did the first time. I am concerned repetitions of the process might decrease the life of the transmission. The best outcome for me would probably be a complete transmission failure at 99,000 miles because then i can get a new one. Anybody having similar problems?

I have a honda civic hybrid 2003.i bought it used at 63,000 miles.for the first 10,000 miles, i had no problems.then a slight shudder started to happen each time i moved the car from a stop, especially when on an inclined hill.i took it to the dealership, where they flushed the transmission, which they said was completely black.a few months later, the problem returned.this time they did a transmission flush and a "burnishing' process.the problem returned again in a few months, and i had the process repeated.finally i read online that many others were having similar problems.i got honda to partially pay for a replacement starter clutch.the problem went away for a few months, then returned.now i am paying for a second starter clutch because the shudder is worse than ever.

The power steering motor and pulley failed and had to be replaced while the car is not even 5 years old.

2003 civic hybrid with cvt has transmission issues.upon accelerating from a stop (even slight acceleration), the whole car will shudder and harsh slipping feel will start until the car gets moving a bit.far worse when starting on an incline from a stop.honda replaced my transmission while under warranty at about 40k miles, but it quickly began having the same issue at around 70k miles and has been having the issue ever since.getting a transmission fluid change helped a bit, but it is costly to continue changing that fluid at earlier than the manual recommended 30k mile intervals.

2003 honda civic hybrid began slight shuddering noise upon acceleration, which eventually got worse, taken in for repair and was toldtransmission fluid was flushed out 6 times in order to fully clean it out. Not even 3000 miles later shudder came back. Unfortunately, at the time was unable to afford another repair bill since car was still drivable. Now shudder is accompanied by tapping noise only when in gear, slight in reverse but loud when in drive.

My 2003 honda civic hybrid has a history of the transmission/car shuddering and slipping during acceleration. This has been occurring regularly since july 26, 2005 at 40,440 miles.on one occasion after having the clutch replaced, transmission fluid sprayed all over the engine and manifold while traveling down the interstate which would have caused the fatality or serious injury of my son driving the car had it ignited.the spokesman at the honda dealer in portland oregon said my son was very lucky not to be engulfed in flames. Since this occurrence, the shuddering issue has continued requiring regular trips to the honda dealer. Each honda service representative i have complained to have said there is nothing they can do because honda of america has not authorized a fix to the defect other then to burnish the start cluth and change the transmission fluid.this has only been a band aid fix which hasn't worked for some time now, but originally used to work for about 2-3 thousand miles at which point the problem re-occurred. This is clearly a defective product and honda is using a band aid approach to mask this serious defect until the warranty has expired, at which point, they quickly say the transmission needs to be replaced with a new one at the owners expense (approx $3,400 to $4,000 dollars). Honda of america claims to have fixed the problem in their new transmissions but they have not been willing to use this fix on existing cars like mine until the warranty expires.i have actually been told this by honda representatives. All this is despite a safety recall for this very same problem in japan, india, and indonesia.please investigate why honda of america has not been held accountable for this serious defect in their honda civic hybrid 2003 cvt transmissions.

Cvt transmission problems, egr valve problems, oxygen sensor and catalytic converter problems, all items had to be replaced over the last 2 years-most recent catalytic converter.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic-hybrid.while driving 60 mph with the cruise control engaged, the engine suddenly revved, but the vehicle began to decelerate.the tachometer escalated and the contact pulled the vehicle onto the shoulder.after a few minutes, he attempted to drive back into traffic and the vehicle moved very slowly.the vehicle could only be driven 5 mph; however, the engine was still revving.after the contact shut off the engine for several minutes and restarted it, the vehicle worked perfectly fine for approximately 30 miles.when he attempted to exit the highway, the vehicle began losing speed again while the engine was still revving.he managed to drive the vehicle home and left it parked for a few days.he did not start the engine during that time.a few days later, he drove the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that a new transmission was needed.the vehicle has not yet been repaired and is still at the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 116,000. Updated 02-18-09updated 02/18/09.

2003 honda civic hybrid- starter clutch has failed at 57,000 miles. Car surges unexpectedly. Must have it replaced or will adversely affect safe driving of the vehicle.

Transmission slipping.lose of power on acceleration, especially quick acceleration like making a turn.this is second occurrence.in 2007 dealer "burnished" transmission.now, says can burnish for $200 (which may resolve it temporarily) or can take care of problem, for $1200, to replace starter clutch assembly.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic-hybrid.at 72,000 miles, the contact noticed that the transmission is beginning to vibrate upon acceleration.the failure occurs during speeds of 0-15 mph.the dealer and the manufacturer have not been notified.however, the contact went to the dealer to get honda's brand of transmission fluid in hopes that it would resolve the failure.the current mileage was 72,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid.while accelerating from a stop light or stop sign, the vehicle vibrates and makes noises.the vehicle slows and then surges forward intermittently.the current mileage was 61,000 and failure mileage was 36,000.

Car stopped while driving on beltway.no warning.car was towed to honda dealership.has been there for six days so far, we were first told it was a cvt belt, or so they thought.now they state the transmission can not be repaired but needs to be replaced.the car is five years old and we have not had one problem prior to it stopping.

I have a 2003 honda hybrid with 146k on it...the car started making slipping and grinding noises when coming out of a full stop. I noticed that a lot of other people are having the same exact issue at various intervals and are getting the run around from honda dealerships-replacing transmission fluids, brandishing, etc. Only for the problem to return. At this point i have a vehicle that costs enormous amounts of money to fix-$1300 catalytic converter, $4000 ima battery pack reset/purchase, $750 transmission fluid change. This is really a big problem. It seems like people have been absolutely fooled into buying the car with no support from the manufacturer. This is not an isolated incident and many hybrid owners have found this to be an expensive and frustrating repair-not to mention the other costs. People feel like they're driving lemons around. My repairs that i recently found out about because the car did not pass emissions will cost me more than what the car is worth. The issue of the slipping and grinding when coming from a full stop needs to be addressed by the manufacturer and recalled to be repaired at no cost to the owners. This particular slipping started approximately 2 years ago. I had a transmission fluid replacement at that time and it seemed to take care of the problem only to have it return about 10k later. This is an ongoing cycle. I feel like i'm being gauged by the dealerships and the manufacturer who is refusing to address this issue-among many other ones.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid. While driving 40mph, the engine the vehicle would lose power which caused the vehicle to slow down to 3-5 mph.the dealer inspected the vehicle on two occasions however they were unable to diagnose the failure.they advised him that if it occurred again he would have to shut the engine off and restart it again to be able to have the vehicle run well enough to get to the destination. They changed some of the fluids and some electronic boards.the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage is 83,000.the vin was unavailable.

Drive belt in my 2003 honda civic hybrid broke all of sudden with no warning while driving. Could have been very dangerous if i was traveling at a high speed. Luckily was traveling at very low speed. Vehicle has always been serviced at honda dealership and is up to date, they have no explanation how this occurred and honda is not willing to help fix the issue, i have been told new cvt transmission is needed. They had extended the warranty because so many complaints received, but mine expired 11 months ago. Honda should have done a recall with this issue! it is a safety hazard and they are sweeping it under the rug and wont correct their faulty cvt transmissions.

Transmission failure while driving vehicle, engine raced, resulted in loss of acceleration, transmission replaced nov 03, second transmission has same problems, in to be replaced march 03, currently in for replacement at dealership.

Dt: when traveling at a slow speed the car bucks.onefeels likein a mix master. It doesn't run smoothly. Took it ito dealer, and they said it was bad oil, had the oil changed, drove fine for 1 month and started up again.

On the expressway the car would not go out of 1st gear then would not shift gears at all, it was less than 2 years old. It had to be towed and the transmission replaced. It was a honda civic ex 2003 from rick rousche honda.

The transmission in my honda civic hybrid 2003 slips when the car is going slow or on an incline.

I have an intermittent problem with a 2003 honda civic hybrid cvt transmission. It occasionally bucks when accelerating or decelerating. I have taken it to my dealer and had the transmission fluid changed and gears "burnished". I am afraid that the problem will get worse. My brother's 2003 civic hybrid also experiences the same problem. When i asked about the problem in july my dealer will only tell me that a recall has not been issued.

The transmission for my honda civic hybrid is failing. It's now at about 170,000 but the problems i've been experiencing have been occurring since i bought the car. The problems have to do with bucking on acceleration, juddering on acceleration, and the car moving in reverse when the gear is in drive and now a noise is coming from inside the transmission. I purchased this care new in 2003 and have been taking it in for service every 10k mi. This is my first car so i thought the "bucking", juddering and "reversing while in drive" was by design, but it wasn't until years later that i googled my car and noticed other people had similar problems. Just google "civic hybrid transmission". I'm now faced with paying almost 4000 to replace my transmission. Interestingly, there have been transmission complaints for other honda products of the same year (acura tl, honda accord). I really think there's a flaw in transmission components of at least some honda models from the 2002-2006 production year.

Transmission on 2003 honda civic stopped working on the highway in the middle of the night (about 11:30pm on a friday night). This is a safety issue, because what if i was rear-ended by someone on the highway & i and a friend (girls) were alone in the car at night & if i had been unable to get home, we would have been susceptible to attack by late-night miscreants - we were on our way home from a church youth meeting - since we were in the middle on the highway in queens, ny. I was able to feel something was wrong & maneuver the car over where we collided with the curb and managed to get the car off the road, but it died with the corner of the rear, driver's side bumper sticking out onto the highway where it could have potentially been hit by another car.

2003 honda civic hybrid transmission problem:pulling into traffic, sometimes the transmission seems to go to neutral then slam into gear. Also has a strong vibration intermittently, yet happening now almost daily. So far, honda dealership is following a service bulletin to correct the problem, with no luck and out of pocket expenses building while they experiment. Found over 128 similar problems posted online.

Iown a 2003 honda civic hybrid with a faulty transmission. It jerked into gear and had many problems. I bought the car from carmax, and they assured me it was fixed. Theypatched it up at aamco. Now thewarranty expired and i need to buy a new transmission.

Every time i accelerate from a complete stop, my vehicle makes a juddering/vibrating noise. A service bulletin was issued by honda in 2008 for this very concern, which turned out to be the start clutch. Honda burnished my clutch twice and the problem was resolved, until the same problem came up about 15,000 miles later. I am no longer under warranty for it. I had my clutch burnished again today (cost me $150), but that did not resolve the issue. I was told that i will need to replace the start clutch, which will cost about $1500 with labor. If this does not get repaired, my transmission could fail completely, and at any time. Long story short, it is quite obvious that the start clutches in 2003 honda civic hybrids are defective.

Transmission failure.there is a vibration and forward jolt during take off from a stop.honda extended the warranty but i pass it by one year.they recalled the transmissions in japan but fail to accept responsibility in the us.they suggested performing "burnishing" and it should last another 20k miles.i had this done two days ago at the dealership and can still feel the vibration and jolt.honda used this transmission for the 03 and 04 civic hybrids and fail to accept responsibility for their error and now thousands of owners, including myself, will be forced to purchase another vehicle because the repair cost in $4500 and there is a 6-week waiting period.this is irresponsible of honda to place this burden on their customers, especially in this recession, because they put out a faulty product.it is said that you have to have lives taken, such as the toyota recall, for a us company to admit and correct a mistake they made in their design.

Continued problems with me 2003 honda civic hybrid and the constant velocity transmission.slipping or surging when accelerating and bucking or shimmy when decelerating.honda has only flushed the transmission fluid.it does improve the situation, only to return within a few thousand miles.this will only push my vehicle to the end of it's warranty period with no annotated issues in my vehicles records.honda needs to fix this ongoing issue as it pertains to hundreds, perhaps thousands of owners.

1. )i bought my used 2003 honda civic lx almost a year ago and about 3 months later, the transmission started to have issues.i hear it is a very common problem with this model for the torque converter to fail.every time my car is about to shift, the rpms jump very high, and then pulls back hard when the transmission shifts.this occurs every single time a drive and has gotten worse over time.i travel 2 hours every week to visit my girlfriend and i am afraid the transmission will fail while i am driving 70mph leaving me in the dust...or worse.honda has recalled vehicles with similar problems at or around the year of my vehicle, but for whatever reason (money) they did not recall mine.the failure has yet to be fixed as i can't afford to fix the issue.

I own a honda civic hybrid 2003.several months ago the vehicle started to jerk (judder') upon acceleration at low speeds.i took my vehicle in to be serviced, and they 'burnished' the transmission and said to come back if the problem persisted.the performance was fine for a few thousand miles, when the judder returned.once again, i went back and they performed a second burnishing.the problem has since returned.

When accelerating on the freeway the transmission started slipping. The car lurched , and the transmission wouldn't catch. Luckily, we brought the car to a safe stop on the side of the freeway.then, the transmission was stuck in first gear and would not shift. We limped off the freeway in first gear.

Hesitation of cvt transmission in honda civic hybrid 2003 model . The transmission hesitates as you apply gas on the pedal. This hesitation is dangerous when you need to move quickly in certain traffic situations.

When the vehicle was parked on a slight incline it had a tendency to roll backward or forward.while the consumer was making a left turn a loud pop was heard.vehicle stalled, and was unable to move in either direction.then, vehicle was towed to a dealer, who informed the consumer that a new transmission was needed.honda reported no parts or transmissions.(hybrid transmission) *sc

Honda civic hybrid 2003 transmission slippage at 60,000 and 90,000 miles.dealer changes fluid and 'burnishes the starter clutch', but it does not solve the problem of a faulty transmission.now they say that it is a faulty egr to deflect the heat from the faulty transmission.there are many posts that refer to other owners with this same problem.honda needs to face the problem and deal fairly with it.

This was also filed under the general header powertrain, but since i saw more complaints here i thought i should file it here instead as there seems to be more strengths in numbers and this problem is dangerous and needs to be addressed. My car has been shuddering/bucking/slipping.it started before the car was out of warranty.with all of the stories i have read it has become clear to me that honda was aware of the problem and that the transmission fluid change was a way of stalling the consumer until the warranty had run out. I took my car in, had the fluid flushed and it temporarily fixed the problem.this was done a second time and after the warranty had run out a third time.each time there was only a temporary fix.now the problem has become dangerous.the car hesitates, races and bucks.i am afraid to drive it as i don't know if it will quit on me while making a left turn and i am afraid that the car will stall in front of oncoming traffic.this is especially dangerous in congested city driving where quick turns are frequently necessary.i am not a risk taker and i am still hesitant to make turns even when there is plenty of room for a highly conservative person such as myself.

I feel a big jerk when decelerate my car from 70miles/hour with my foot off the gas pedal. There has been no accident but i feel that if the car breaks down as a result of this jerk or if the jerk is strong enough, then i may run into some accident.the problem is intermittent. I took the care to honda dealer, but the problem didn't happen during test drive. A lot of people are having the same issue with this model. It looks like a manufacturing defect.car detail: honda civic hybrid 2003.it's an ongoing problem.

Ongoing transmission problems. Have replaced transmission 4 times and still having problems.

The cvt transmission in my 2003 honda civic hybrid totally gave out. This followed months of jerking and repeated treatments of transmission fluid replacement and "reprogramming.," which started before 30,000 miles. Each treatment seemed to work temporarily, only to have the jerking return, each time soonerthan before. The evening it gave out entirely i was crossing a bridge, then turned left onto a main street. As i turned the car jerked, then acted as though it was permanently in neutral. The dealer told me i must have been spinning my wheels on snow or ice, but this was not the case.

My 2003 honda civic hybrid with cvt transmission suddenly lost all the power while i was driving and the car behind me almost crashed into my car. Soon i found out it's a common problem with the transmission slippage problem with the cvt transmission. I called two dealerships but they said since it's a 8 year old car the extended warranty has expired and they will not fix it for free. I believe it is a driving hazard as an accident almost happened to me, and honda is liable to recall theiir cvt transmission on honda civic hybrid.

Honda civic hybrid 2003 with cvt transmission, it shudders and vibrates entire car when accelerating slowly. Also in neutral it hesitates going in reverse. I am requesting a recall as i see many having this problem on the web.honda claims the car has no problems and that is the engine lurking forward.

Vehicle is losing power on acceleration at random moments.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid.while attempting to accelerate from idle at a stop light the vehicle began to vibrate and then shut off.the check engine light illuminated intermittently prior to this failure.the dealer replaced the catalytic converter.presently, the vehicle will start, but was not drivable.the vehicle was towed to a honda dealer, and diagnosed as needing a new transmission.the dealer found a salvaged transmission.the current and failure mileage were 158,000.

Transmission will slip causing the car to shudder / shake, acceleration will not occur when needed. Problem is especially bad starting from 0 mph up a hill, or when 2 or more passengers are in the car. Dealer will not offer the recall, although the same problem has been addressed in japan, as they have sent out a recall for the same issue overseas.

Vehicle has had a constant "juddering" (vibration) issue when accelerating from a stop. The car was taken to be serviced several times with no defects found by the dealer. The "juddering" has finally resulted in a complete transmission failure with a required replacement.i have read of several problems of the same nature with this particular year, make , and model.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic-hybrid.the contact stated that the vehicle shutters and jerks when shifting gears.the failure occurs at all gears, with the greatest difficulty shifting out of second gear.the dealer replaced the catalytic converter, starter clutch, and flushed the transmission, however, the failure still persists.the dealer stated that some jerking was normal.the speed was unknown.the current mileage was 71,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.

My 2003 honda civic hybrid (hch) with its cvt transmission (52,500 miles) exhibits severe bucking, hesitation and lurching.during low speed maneuvering in a parking lot or turning a corner, less than 20 mph, the car will lurch and buck.it will become so pronounced and violent that the car will lurch forward and your head will hit the headrest.i took the car to honda of tyson?s corner in virginia in early august 2007 and their solution was to replace the cvt fluid.this did not solve the problem. Now in september 2007 the issue is becoming worse and a lurching or slippage is noticed at speed up to 50 mph.i took the car to an independent garage and they confirmed a major transmission issue but due to lack of technical information they were not equipped to repair the cvt.they also reported that no engine trouble codes were detected.searching the internet it appears other hch owners are experiencing the same problem.the only fix seems to be replacing the cvt fluid progressing to rebuilding or replacing the cvt without correcting the core problem.you just end up with a transmission with the same technology doomed to failure again.i am afraid that honda is not helping the dealers fix the defect and instead just taking a band aid approach.

The transmissionsuddenly fails every 30-40k miles creating a traffic hazard that will result in a crash without warning. Also, the ima battery does not hold a sufficient charge creating a loss in power and a possible accident.

Dt*: the contact stated while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle bucked slightly.there was also a hesitation in the transmission, which caused the engine to sound like it was revving too high, however the tachometer needle did not move higher than normal.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer where the dealer was unable to determine the specific problem, but stated that it was most likely an internal transmission issue.

2003 honda civic hybrid has a vibration from the transmission.dealers said they didn't feel it, then replaced trans fluid. Nothing helped . Out of warranty and its not their problem now. It is dangerous at speed. Honda is covering up a problem and they are at fault by corporate decision to risk american lives.have gone round and round with honda use and they still say there is no problem with any of the hybrids. Liars.

Ongoing problem with my 2003 honda civic hybrid cvt transmission. After putting in a ongoing chronic complaint to the manufacture honda assigned me a case manager who decided to replace the problem transmission and torque converter with a remanufactured one. It was then fine for 7500 miles and now has started over the same exact problem of shudder and slippage as before. The dealer is trying to say it is an egr valve and putting me through the process of running out of the warranty again as they extended the transmission warranty to 100,000 miles and i now have 97,250. Again, as i mentioned before this transmission shudder and slippage is a safety issue (check your previous complaints) and i am a public safety advocate and public safety professional.

I bought my 2003 honda civic hybrid with 70,000 miles on it.in less than a year, i had to have the catalytic converter, egr valve, fly wheel, and transmission replaced.the transmission was replaced 7 months ago and the same exact problem is happening again: the transmission slips every time i press on the gas or take my foot off the gas, and when i'm coasting the transmission chugs.

When starting my car, i could not get the auto shift selector to go into drive. I had to use the key to unlock the shift lock...it is in the honda shop at this time.

Vehicle won't back-up when set in reverse.when tow truck driver arrived and started the car, it backed up.also, vehicle was stopped at a stop sign then car wouldn't move forward even though it was in drive. *la this occurred twiceand a truck collided with the vehicle and totaled it.*ph

2003 honda civic hybrid purchased at 66,000 miles at 90,359 miles slight shutter/judder when moving from a complete stop.honda diagnosed (04/08)cvt for judder. Added one start clutch burnishing procedure/add two start clutch burnishing as a recall service. Now same problem again. Now at 120,000 miles experiencing same problem vehicle slips, shudders on take off from full stop. Repair will be $1200 to replace start clutch.when starting from a dead stop i hope the vehicle will move. I have to really press down on the gas petal to get the vehicle going and i do think this is a safety hazard with my vehicle.had the egr valve changed at $400 repair(0708).

My 2003 honda hybrid has vibrations when movement first begins and when climbing hills and after reading some of the statements of others on this blog it seems my problems are the same as theirs. Service manager informed me my problem is starter clutch, same problems the other folks complained of on this blog. Others seemed to get temporary satisfaction with burnishing clutch and a change of transmission fluid both of which i plan to do because that is much cheaper than the price of repairs i was quoted by service tech.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid. The contact stated when attempting to accelerate from a complete stop, the vehicle would sporadically lunge forward. The dealer burnished the clutch and the failure was resolved. Approximately one year later, the failure recurred. The dealer made the exact same repair to the vehicle. The failure recurred and the dealer then advised replacing the clutch. The manufacturer advised they would take the liability for a percentage of the repair costs but the contact declined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000 and the current mileage was approximately 75,000.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid. The contact stated the vehicle was exhibiting transmission failures. The dealer was unable to duplicate or locate any failures within the transmission and advised the contact the vehicle was operable. The vehicle continued exhibiting signs of transmission slippage and was taken back to the dealer. The dealer advised the clutch was defective and causing the failure of the transmission. The clutch was replaced. The failure recurred within two years. The vehicle was not further repaired. The vin was not accepted. The failure mileage was 83,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

Drivers side seat rocks back and forth, first gear lunges out to neutral, shifting gears is not smooth and has rough grinding feel, clutch doesnt engage and disc engage properly.

Manual transmission clutch depressed all the way to the floor but shifting is not smooth and lots of times even "grind" into 2nd gear at low speed(disengage at about 3000rpm then shift into 2nd). Feels like the shifter tires to push back to neutral. Also clutch pedal does not release so smooth after a long period of driving, making noise when pushing down and "clicks" when engaging.

After a few months of driving my brand new 2003 honda civic si. I started to experience a very "notchy"and rough feeling in my manual transmission. Occasionally it will also grind gears, and i am more than definite that i am shifting properly. It gets worse in the winter because the car will hesitate a lot when trying to go in any gear. I brought my vehicle into honda north of danvers, ma for them to inspect the problem, yet they found nothing to be wrong. Therefore, no attempts to were made to repair the problem. This isn't a problem in which they can try to simulate after 5 minutes of driving. I feel that if this problem remains, it will be increasingly difficult to drive and is decreasing the chances of driving safely. The car's second winter is coming and i do not feel safe driving my car with this particular problem.i am a member of www.ephatch.com, a online forum community of 2002-2005 honda civic si owners, and many of the members have had similar problems, yet the dealer they went to could never help them. Only a rare few have had there transmission problem fixed, but only through a lot of arguing and persuading.

Consistently grinds transmission when going into 2nd gear (manual transmission).dealership says its ok and normal, but i know it is damaging my transmission.even with perfect shifting at a high rpm shift, it will grind every time.

Grinding when shifting into 3rd gear upshift or downshift esp when rpms when going into 3rd gear are over 3,000 rpm car now has 47k miles has been doing this for over 15k miles is getting progressively worse.

Transmission failure. *nlm

Gear shift failed to shift into first gear.there was also a loud ticking coming from the engine.ph

Drivers side seat rocks back and forth, first gear lunges out to neutral, shifting gears is not smooth and has rough grinding feel, clutch doesnt engage and disc engage properly.

The engine shut of when the vehicle stopped or slowed down at 10 mph.engine will not restart unless clutch is depressed all the way to the floor.

1) purchased the car2) within the one year that i have owned the car, i have experienced gears grinding when shifting from 1st to 2nd with the manual transmission on numerous occasions. I do not think it is a problem with my technique as i have owned manual transmission cars for approximately 18 years and and never previously had a similar problem.3) nothing done as of yet to correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that the srs air bags warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised her that the driver side seatbelt buckle assembly needed to be replaced.the dealer stated that if the component was not replaced, not the airbags would not deploy in the event of a crash. The vehicle was repaired for the drivers side seat belt buckle assembly. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were unknown.

Honda has a lifetime seatbelt warranty that states "honda will repair or replace any seat belt component thatfails to function properly during normal use."seatbelt sensor is not working and honda now says it's an electrical not a seat belt component and not covered.my understanding is the sensor on/off state affects air bag deployment.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the srs warning light would illuminate on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised him that he would need to replace the driver and passenger seat belts.the vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where he was advised that the sensors in the seats would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

While driving my 2003 honda civic my airbag senor light came on and stays on ,i was told it was the driver side seat belt buckle and it would need to be repaired at a cost of $500 dollar should this be a problem for honda

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that the front passenger side seat beltwould not connect to the anchor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where the contact was advised that the latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. The vin was unavailable.

Airbag light is on and stayed on

Yesterday, while driving, i noticed that my airbag warning light, on the dash, was illuminated.approximately, 3 - 4 weeks ago, i had my airbags replaced at my local dealer, due to a recall notice i received in the mail.today, i took my car to the same dealer that replaced my airbags and they told me that the issue was probably be the replacement of the seatbelt, of which, she had seen costs for this to be between $200 & $450.i showed her that i had another warning light, alerting me to any seatbelt issue, but, she told me that warning light alerts drivers to 'put on their seatbelt', and that the warning light that i was seeing illuminated on my dash is for the entire supplemental restraint system, (i.e. Airbags, seatbelts, etc.).she told me that she thought my issue was tied to the driver's seatbelt, because it gets the most use.shouldn't all components, dealing with occupant restraint, be considered warranted for the life of the vehicle?

Transmission slip for 20 min when i first start the car then it shift hard after that .seat belt light always on.

The airbag/ srs light went off and honda dealer said it was the seatbelts and required a $530 repair. I am not sure why this is not covered under a warranty for safety.

My srs light has been on for a couple of years, no one could find the problem.now, my seat belt, driver side will not latch when i put the strap in.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic.the contact stated that the passenger side seat belt has locked twice.the release button failed to release the seat belt.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they had to cut the seat belt to free the passenger.the dealer stated that the seat belt was childproof and was not functioning properly.the dealer ordered a new seat belt and will replace the current one.the current and failure mileages were 60,000.

While driving at 25 mph consumer's vehicle hydroplaned and impacted another vehicle head on. Passenger's side seat belt didn't retract, andpassenger's air bag didn't deploy upon impact, only the driver'sside did.

I purchased a honda civic hybrid vehicle in march of the current year with the intention of saving gas and being kind to the environment. The customary brief test drive before puchasing the car led me to believe this would be a good car for my high mileage lifestyle. Within a month i started having aches and stiffness in my neck and lower back.at ten weeks i was in so much pain that i called a chiropractor, crying with pain, on a sunday morning to beg for help. (i had not required chiropractic help for the previous 5 years). The chiropractor treated my back with heat and massage for over an hour and then went with me to my new car to check out the seats.she immediately pointed out thatthe design of the seat gave no back support and was too short in the seat to support the legs while driving. With the doctor's help and advice as to cushions i could purchase i was able to leave on the trip but could only drive an hour at a time.my cousin did most of the driving from bakersfield, california to portland, oregon (approximately 900 miles) while i sat in the passenger seat on special cushions with my feet up on the dashboard to relieve the pain.when i got back home i went back tot he chiropractor immediately, and have been treated twice a week for the past two weeks. I'm doing physical therapy and using a wide variety of support cushions.relax the back stores have become my new best friend.but the civic is still impossible to be comfortable in.extra cushions are making the driving experience almost bearable but i could never do a long drive.fortunately my high mileage life is split up into 1/2 to 11/2 hour trips. But it doesn't seem fair that i can't drive long than 90 minutes in my $23,000 car.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic.while attempting to decelerate at an unknown speed, the contact depressed the brake pedal and it became stuck to the floorboard.the failure caused the contact to crash into the rear of another vehicle.the seat belts failed to restrain the contact and the front air bag failed to deploy.as a result, the contact sustained injuries to the head, neck and back.the second driver also sustained injuries.the contact received medical attention and a police report was filed.the vehicle was destroyed.the manufacturer was notified.the failure mileage was 82,000.

Front drivers seat comes loose where it is attached to the car. Had fixed once. Going in to get fixed again. *nlm

Defective front seat tracks.front seats rock back and forth on track when latched in place.concern is that seat might break loose in a crash.my car is a 2003 civic le.i was told by the dealer that some 2006 cars (about 25% of a random sample he took on lot) have the same issue.my 2003 civic hybrid does not have the issue.amount of seat rocking is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch vertical motion measured at the front edge of the seat bottom as the seat is rocked by pushing/pulling on the seat back when the seat is not occupied.driver's seat is worst, but passenger seat exhibits about 50% of the motion.the car currently as about 30k miles, but the problem has been noticeable for at least the last 10k miles.

Purchased 2003 civic lx in july of 2006. Had 30,000 miles on it. The driver seat had a small rocking motion as if it was not bolted to the floor. Has gotten progressively worse in 6 months and 9000 miles of driving. Mechanic during oil change told me he had seen that a lot on this model of car, but had no idea what it was. Have an appointment to be checked, but feel honda is responsible.

Headrest restricts the view of the driver. Dealer notified.

As i drive aggresively often, i sit with the driver's side seat at a 90 degree angle. During the accident the seat jammed in a completely reclined position. After retrieving my belongings from the vehicle, the seat was not able to be adjusted to my usual 90 degree angle position.(3) nothing done, car was totalled.

I have a 2003 honda civic that just failed new jersey state inspection for a loose seat condition. It appearedthat thiswas a common failure since the new jersey motor vehicle department has failed 256 hondas for loose seats in the last 24 months.i looked if there were any recalls ,but there were none on record. I believed that thiswas problemthat should be covered by honda under defective parts or workmanship. The seat anchor bolts were secure.itwas the chair rail system that failed somehow andwas loose. The dealer wanted over $500.00to repair what looks like poor work manship or defective parts on the part of honda.

I live on a main road, so i was thankful that there was no heavy traffic at the time, that it luckily was minor, and no one was injured, however, this has the potential to cause fatality.as i was driving out of my driveway and turning right out onto the road, the steering wheel stuck in the turning right position and both steering and brakes failed to work causing me to crash into a parked car. I am not sure why the steering and brakes both failed like this? strangely, my car was driving fine after the incident as the police officer pulled it to the side of the road. It is smashed up and needs body work and possibly mechanical work. I did have it towed to the dealership, as i did not trust driving it after this happened, and i am not sure i will ever feel safe in this car. Currently, my insurance is taking care of it, but this was a malfunction on honda's part and should be dealt with by honda on all fronts, cosmetically, mechanically, financially, and most importantly so that this doesn't happen to someone else or me again. Otherwise, there is no justice or protection for the consumer! this could have potentially been and could be life threatening.

When driving down the road, the vehicles stopped . I applied my brakes and nothing happened. I then hit the vehicle in front of me. And my air bags on my vehicle did not deploy.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. While driving downhill at 55 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when the brakes were engaged. The driver crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The driver side frontal air bags failed to deploy. The driver's head struck the windshield, which created a cut on his head and brain swelling. The driver received medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v353000 (air bags) after the crash occurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 173,000.

I was driving on 695 west high way baltimore, maryland on june 1st in the afternoon as usual, all of sudden my car was out of control.i was trying to slow down the speed a bit, however my break was hardly to push down. I felt like somethinggot stuck there. At the meantime, the accelerator seems not stop while i was pushing down the break, on the opposite it was increasing the speed... In general, the speed was slowing down but it was super slow. I could tell my car was in a super bad situation. I was very lucky that there weren't lot of cars near to me, i immediately turned on the emergency light and turned my car to the emergency lane.i finally made car reducing the speed to 20 mph while my car was in the emergency lane, but it was still moving that i had to make a emergency break and turned my car off. It was a horrible driving experience i never ever had. I sent my to the repair store, the result is the main problem of my car is the accelerator got stuck that effected the break couldn't slow down the speed, also my break had some issues too. I spent $1,699.00 to get my car fixed in the end. I think this problem shouldn't happen to any cars, its very dangerous and it will be a big possible to cause the car accident.i think honda has to take a big responsibility of this incident, and to make sure all of honda cars won't have this terrible issue.

While driving in a residential neighborhood at 30 mph and attempting to slow down the right rear wheel brake cylinder blew out causing a complete loss of brake fluid and concomitant loss of brakes.i had to coast to a stop using the hand brake to come to a final stop.fortunately there were no cars in front of me.the car had to be towed to the dealer.the dealer indicated that in addition to the blown brake cylinder the right rear feed brake line was rusted and needed to be replaced.had i been traveling in heavy traffic a collision would have occurred possibly resulting in serious bodily injury.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, she tried to apply the brakes but the brake pedal erroneously traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle did not respond to braking attempts and as a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle.the air bags did not deploy and the vehicle was destroyed. The contact sustained no injuries. A police report filed of the incident. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who advised that because the vehicle was destroyed, they could not determine the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

Takata inflators, while driving or sitting still, engine light comes on & stays on,brakes faulty while driving loud noise, and i have to press down hard on the brakes for it to slow down, driving/stabilized low visibility due to lights, it's very hard to tell if the lights are on our not inside & outside the vehicle, while driving noticed the brakes are unstable. Air bag sensor is always on, open door indicators don't work, drove car and door wasn't fully closed although i knew i closed the door fully, driving on the highway, and driver side door opened unexpectedly. Trunk door opens unexpectedly, trouble keeping it closed, gas door doesn't open/close properly. Loud noise in motion, trouble picking up speed

Just had the brakes and a barring replaced in september 2014 and now i'm having the same problem with the brakes again but worse they are sticking and it's hard to get up to speed and the alignment keeps going out as well.

Braking while on a bumpy road occasionally results in a delay of the braking action. We thought this was part of the abs system, but there was no abs "feel" in the brake pedal. With the toyota problem description, we now feel it may be a similar problem. Only occurs while braking on rough pavement.

A sound of metal rubbing together emitted from the vehicle while braking.the cause was unknown. Please describe further information.*nlm

I've encountered a problem with honda hybrid braking systems on two models (the 2000 insight and the 2003 hch - both manual transmissions). Recently, ambivalence cost me dearly. Driving on the interstate, a truck cut me off. I hit the brakes but found myself accelerating towards the truck instead of stopping. At the last minute, i swerved to avoid the truck and ended up skidding, rolling, and finally crashing to a stop. On a positive note, i walked away from the accident with some minor scratches and no one else was hurt. My car has sustained serious damage and i am waiting to receive final word on its status from my insurance company.

While driving, the steering wheel locked.the consumer had come to an intersection, had her foot on the brake, suddenly the steering locked, aimed the vehicle to the right, went off the road, over the curb and almost rear ended by a tractor trailer.the rear of the vehicle was still in the driving lane.the consumer was on the way to the dealer to have the brakes checked out along with the remote starter which allowed the vehicle to be driven without keys.the vehicle was returned to the dealerfor a brake defect. *scc

Dt: contact stated there was complete brake failure which caused an accident.the service dealer transferred the vehicle to a body shop to determine why the brakes failed.immediately following the accidentcontactspokewith the manufacturer.

Dt*: the consumer stated the check maintenance light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealership to determine the problem. The dealership discovered the battery needed to be replaced.after the battery replacement, the check maintenance light went off. The vehicle was driven for a few days and the check maintenance light illuminated once again. Later, the consumer was involved in a rear end collision while traveling at 35 mph on a wet road. The brakes were applied, but the vehicle failed to stop before striking another vehicle in the rear end. The seat belts were in use and no injuries were sustained. The air bags did not deploy.the vehicle was inspected and diagnostics were performed to determine why the air bags did not deploy. The codes showed faulty sensors in the air bags.the dealer determined further testing would be required before a final decision could be made on the air bag failure.update 2/24/2006 -

This problem has been happening since the car was brand new, and continues to this day.while slowing down, and if the car goes over a bump or rough patch in the road, the electrical braking by the hybrid system turns off.this causes there to be no braking at all on the car for a brief period of time.the regular braking system will engage but it requires more force and time than normal to slow and stop the car.the stopping distance is definitely increased and could lead to an accident.it occurs often, and can be recreated over the same rough patch in the road.the amount of roughness required to cause this is low and there is no way to predict by looking at the road.it is actually quite shocking how little it takes and how different the braking is after it happens.i complained to the dealer but they said there was nothing they could do, thatis just the way it is.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid. While driving 75 mph on the interstatewhen the accelerator pedal extended to the floor without the contact applying pressure to it, then the rpms increased. He then firmly pressed on the brake pedal and the vehicle started to slow down. The contact was able to continue driving. The failure has occurred approximately 7 to 8 times. Honda was contacted and stated that they were not going to repair the vehicle since the failure was related to the cruise control. They also advised the contact to have the vehicle diagnosed by the dealer. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 130,000. The current mileage was 207,496.the consumer also stated the brakes did not work well on a rough road when going down a hill.updated 05/13/10.

When coming to a stop pressure was applied to the brake pedal andvehicle accelerated. Driver did not touch the accelerator pedal at all.driver was able to avoid a collision. Vehicle has been taken to the dealer several times but the problem could not be resolved.

Vehicleexperienced abrake failure while applying the brakes at approximately 30-40 mph.brakepedal went to the floor while coming into oncoming traffic. Consumer was able to pull off onto the shoulder of the road on which the vehicle continued on for a few feet before stopping. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed consumer that they could not find anything wrong.

Frequently, braking will actually cause an acceleration.if i'm going down a hill and am pressing slowly on the brake to slow down, and then hit a bump in the road, the car accelerates and there's a bump, bump, bump until finally the brakes engage.i have taken it in for service and was told this is just the way abs works.however, i have driven other cars with abs (including hondas) and have never had this problem.this has happened over 30 times since i bought the car several months ago.one time i nearly collided with the car in front of me.

Abs failed during drive to work. Roads were yet unplowed from the previous evening snowstorm. Abs failed at 6:30am, turned east on 147th street from north on sailview. Descending slight grade abs indicator illuminated when applying brakes. Brake system locked during decent, very scary, luckily no other cars on road. Took to dealer, unable to find fault. What good is a brake safety system if it fails during hazardous road conditions?

Excessive brake fluid is leaking from the vehicle. The master cylinder has to be refilled approximately every two months. Dealer was notified, and had not determined the location.

After refueling and pulling away from a gas station, brakes went almost to floor and car felt like it would not stop.repeated pumping of brakes restored some braking power.however, after stopping, brakes went almost to floor again.dealer could not detect problem on first test drive; however brakes failed on second test drive.invoice for repair says "brake master cylinder leaking (into brake booster).replaced brake master cylinder and flushed brake fluid".old master cylinder available.

While driving around a bend, the entire steering wheel locked up. It required that i stop, turn off my vehicle and turn it back on to correct. This happened a second time a month later and the key is now stuck in the on position in the ignition and will not turn on or turn off.

Without any warning of impending malfunction the ignition fob was unable to turn into a pos to start the engine while pressing down on the clutch all troubleshooting ideas were done and ultimately a very expensiveonly certain model hard to come by and really different from other years in cost and availability part ignition lock cylinder tumbler was purchased and car drove fine without any further problems until 07/2015 when the same exact thing happened again needing the same exact part as prior costing again an exhuberant amount and hard to find at a reasonable price . We do not do all the things that may have cause it we do not have large heavy amounts of keys hanging off of key ring only alarm plus fob it has not been exposed to any moist or wet i have read it a recall on the automatic i am hoping it will be added to recall list for alsothe manual 2003 honda civic ex.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

While making a turn at < 5 mph in my honda 2003 4dr-sedan, to take it out of the parking lot, there was a popping sound, followed by the steering wheel becoming free. Turning the steering had no affect on the wheels.the dealership did their 1st inspection after 7 hours of the vehicle being to towed to their facility, found it to be a first-of-its kind failure. They confirmed that a bolt had broken in half in the power steering column pinion bracket.

2003 honda civic with steering problems. Consumer states that dealer looked at it and told her to contact the insurance company for body and suspension damage. She states that the steering wheel will not retract after making turns.the consumer was involved in an accident previously, however it was not clear, if the steering was defective from manufacturing or if the steering problem was a result of the accident.

My car and many other's have a serious steering rack defect that can potentially cause a serious crash or mishap. It is a 2003 honda civic si. My own car personally has a creaking rack which i complained to various honda dealers about since i have owned my car. It now has 31,000 miles on it and the problem is growing worse. Here are some link's to our specific problem's.http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60800http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70195.

Power steering fluid leaks inside the car underneath the steering wheel, and the container for the fluid runs very low.the vehicle will need a power steering rack which is a front end part. I was told it is safe to drive.i feel uncertain. To assure that no other part will go bad, it is neccessary to have the problem dealt and the part fix.especially knowing that i transport my son and nephew to and from school.it is possible that anything can transpire, eventhough i am told it is safe.i am uncomfortable with driving , but it is my vehicle and i need to get to work, school and drop my son and nephew to thier school, etc. In addition, when acelerating from 1st to 2nd the vehicle is harsh, when warm.

The clear coating paint all over the roof and the trunk becomes chipped. The problem grows every day.

On the bottom side of the hood, there are three rusted bolts.directly above one of the rusted bolts, the hood is rusting...as this rusted area is in very close proximity to the windshield washing nozzle mechanism which delivers the windshield washing liquid to the windshield, at some future date, there will be a catastrophic failure.please review and implement an action recall plan to address this potential safety issue.thanks in advance.

Carpet under passenger side mat becomes completely sodden during and after every rain. Having blower only operate on "recirculate" as a honda bulletin suggested does not help the problem. (also, in winter, operating during wet cold weather on recirculate does not allow windshield to properly de-fog.) door seals appear to be in good shape, with no apparent wear, and are in proper position. Because mat is not wet, appears that water is getting in car structure from below, not from door, for example. I fear this will cause floor of car to rust and rot, and carpet is becoming stained by mold growing under the mat. Difficult to keep this dry when one lives in a rainy climate. Think this has been happening for quite a while, but i was unaware because the mat on top was dry.r

Clear coat failure. Noticeable clear coat failure started about 5 years ago. I contacted honda and they refused to do anything about it. They claim it is only an issue on 2005 and later civics, which obviously isn't true. Clear coat failure on roof, trunk, and above the doors.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that she was unable to open the front driver's side door from the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 126,000.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to buckeye honda (2615 n memorial dr, lancaster, oh 43130). The contact was informed that the radiator was leaking and there was also an oil leak. Additionally, the horn, fog light switch, and cruise control failed to operate as designed. The contact was also informed that the steering column cover was cut. In addition to the failures, the driver's and passenger's front doors were unable to be opened with the key. The contact was only able to unlock the trunk with the key. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer for an ignition switch repair where the keys were replaced however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage approximately 190,000.

I drive a 2003 honda civic ex.igot off work at 5:30 p.m. And got on the interstate and had the incident about 5:55.on 4 lanes of traffic, i was in the 3rd from the right.this is rush hour in indianapolis.no warning at all, the hood on my honda flew up and smashed my windshield to pieces and put a large dent in the top of the honda where it meets the top of the windshield.the hood stayed up, completely taking away any vision in front.i immediately slammed on my breaks and thanfully didn't hit anyone in front of me.thankfully nobody was tailgating me.i managed not to swerve the car and stay in my lane.i could see a vehicle on each side of me as i slamed on the brakes.i then proceeded to steer my way to the left, crossing 2 lanes and then getting my car over to the shoulder.i used my side mirrors for this.when i got my car over on the shoulder, my hood came down.incredibly lucky to not hit anyone and not get hit.the insurance company called me on the 25th. Their claims adjuster said that the hood latch had a decent amount of wiggle room! this should not be.there should be no wiggle room on a hood release.i just turned 100,000 miles a week earlier.my hood hadn't been up for months.my last oil change was around valentines day.one of those fluke things i hope.i would hate for somebody else to have this happen to them.i am so lucky that there was no damage form another vehicle.car seemed fine mechanically.i got on the shoulder and was pretty shaken up. But okay.

While my vehicle being stationary, i can't lock or unlock both passenger and driver doors from the outside using my key. It happens every 2 years.

The clear sealant on the paint suddenly started to erode. Now large sections of the roof, hood, and rear trunk area look like the car has some kind of skin disease. It's an unsightly mess that has lowered the car's value and makes it look like a junk heap instead of the well-maintained and running car that it actually is. I would like honda to pay to fix it like they do for any other issue that they are negligent about.

My blue 2003 honda civic lx's clear coat is fading. There is white blotches on 50 percent of my roof, 20 percent of my trunk and is spreading to my hood. An independent paint shop said to make it look like a factory paint job it would cost around $3,000.i then took it to the dealership and the service manager set up a meeting with a "representative" for me. The rep looked at my car and told me that her "rule is to look for factory defects only." she said that the coat is fading because of weather and has faded faster because the dark blue absorbs heat. I informed her that i have seen atleast five other blue civics of the same year with the same exact problem with the paint. This makes me think that there is a defect either with the clear coat or the application. It seems unlikely that a 5 or 6 year old car's paint should be fading even after regular maintenance and care to the exterior.

The door will not lock using the key. The key either gets jammed in the door or wont go in. When it does go in, it wont come back out. Frustrated because i cant lock/unlock my car without a break-in kit.

2003 blue honda civic clearcoat and paint are delaminating on large areas of the roof and portions of the trunk and hood.the paint is not exhibiting normal oxidation fading, the clearcoat is actually peeling away.

The clear coat on the paint job began cracking and peeling on the bumpers and hood.

The paint has been fading and peeling since about january of 2014. Car has been taken care of and washed cleaned regularly (but not excessively) its whole life and the paint should not have any issues. This is a common problem for honda's made around this time and honda should issue a recall and pay to have it painted. It is not fair to car owners who do not have the resale value the car is worth because of a simple cosmetic issue like this.

About 2 months ago i noticed the paint deteriorating from the exterior roof of my vehicle. I immediately contacted the dealership where i purchased the vehicle. They scheduled an appointment about 6 weeks later for me to come to the dealership and have the manufacturer representative view the vehicle paint issue.the paint is currently only deteriorating from the roof. The dealership declined to correct the issue stating the vehicle was 1) out of warranty 2) environmental factors contributing to the paint problem 3) care of the carwhile at the dealership, there was another customer who had an accord with the same issue. I have also seen other civics and accords with the same issue. The service manager nor manufacturer representative did not provide information as to why the paint located at the area of deterioration was happening. The service manager directed me only to warranty expiration and environmental concerns pointing to the rubber strips at the exterior side windows where water spots were located.

I noticed a few weeks ago that the hood had started to bounce somewhat while car was in operation, upon investigating i foundthe support that the hood latch assembly is attached ( bulkhead / cross member)had a hairline crack appearing. Within a matter of a few weeks the entire latch assembly had broken loose. Once this happens even the secondary latch is useless, at this point the only thing keeping the hood from flying open duringthe course of driving which involves air turbulence is a very thin gauge steel cable connected to the inside hood release latch which isn't meant to restrain hood from flying open.i've also found one documented case of a hood flying open while car is traveling downinterstate in ohio, this was a 2004 honda civic and the traffic crash report number is 10-119-89.i've contacted american honda corporation and expressed my concerns regarding this safety issue onjanuary 19, 2016 . So far i've only received a case file number (04405315) and a lot of run around.i've been told in different conversation my car is 13 years old and out of warranty. I know that. The car was also out of warranty when both airbags produced by takata corporation had to be replaced. I feel this hood latch problem is just as dangerous if not more so, if ones hood comes unlatched going down a highway or worse a interstate this could very easily result in a major pile up putting numerous individuals at risk for loss of life and property damage. I've taken the car to a local honda dealership, bryan honda located here in fayetteville, nc.a service advisor and fixed operations director by the name of todd kuther has inspected the car, took photos and forwarded to american honda using the case file# (04405315)

This car was totaled in a crash many, many years ago ! i have filled out and mailed in two recall notices to this affect and i am still getting recall notices for this car. For the third time, this car is long gone, update your records and do not sent another notice.

Front air spoiler on our 2003 honda civic hybrid will detach from vehicle while driving.spoiler, at best, loosely connects to car.further, the design of the spoiler is so low that it will scrape curb stops and ordinary driveways further exacerbating the problem.

I was struck on my front bumper by a driver directly in front of me. He was making a 3-point turn and didn't know that i was behind him. He accelerated into me and even though my car sustained minimal damage, my neck received all of the crash energy. I have hard-copy evidence of my neck from mris and cat scans taken 1 year before the accident; i had a healthy neck. I now have 3 disintergrating discs and constant pain. The treatments will be open-ended, i am told.through my research, i found that honda changed their head-restraint design on the civic hybrid 2003 (my car). Before that year, the regular civic had excellent ratings. This model had a 'minimal passing' rating. I feel that the lack of neck support was the reason that my body sustained such injuries.

Purchased a honda civic 4dr lx on sept. 20, 2003 and took it to the car wash on 10/04/2003 only to have water on both front driver and passenger doors (bottom of doors). On 10/06/2003, i took it for a 48 hour raincheck i had received, and again water had come in. When i got home i dried it up and again pour a gallon of water on both driver and passenger doors. Sure enough water was at the bottom of the doors. After inspectingboth doors water was evident between the door panels. In the process of doing the inpection. I also notice that the gaps between the driver back andpassenger door were different. The passengers back door gap measures 1/4 in. While the drivers back door measures 3/16 in.*la

2003 honda civic.during wind, door blown full back and breaking hinge.door and side of car needed full replacement. *la

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle swayed from left to right without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the camber unit was not installed in the rear or front of the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000. The vin was unavailable.

Noise in front suspension while turning at low speeds.popping noise in front end while maneuvering at parking lot speeds.

There is a loud popping or knocking sound coming from the right rear side of the car when i go over an incline while turning in either direction.the dealer heard the problem and tried to fix it twice but i am still hearing it.

"takata recall"..the airbag light in my car randomly comes on a lot, i worry that it will deploy while driving.2nd concern: suspension in my car is very bad, i had my mechanic check it and he said he had lots of complaints about this in lots of civics, he can't find problem.

Whenever we aregoing up a the hillthe car loss speed and alotofpotency.

Vehicleexperienced an ongoing problem of wandering across the road while driving at 20 mph or more.vehicle was taken to dealer on several occasions, but dealer was unable to find the cause of the problem.

Vehicle's steering locked up resulting in consumer hitting an embankment. *mr the steering wheel spun to the left and locked in the left position.the vehicle did not have brakes.it felt as if the vehicle shut off.the vehicle was declared a total loss.the two front tires were bald.the sway bar was broken and could have contributed to the spin out. *sc

My 2003 honda civic hybrid front left suspension mount is making creaking noises, the dealer said it needs replacing.

Creaking noise from front of car never resolved by keeler honda albany, ny.

I noticed my 2003 honda civic ex fp with 9,388 miles on it leaning towards the front left. Measured the distance between tires and wheel well rim and found there was a 1 to 1/12 inch difference between that rim and the remaining 3 tire rims.brought the car in to the dealer and was advised that there was a "coil spring problem" the part has been discontinued and it is unknown when the vehicle will be repaired.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 35 mph there was a wobbling noise that came from the front driver side tire.the vehicle has been towed to the dealership three times for inspections and repairs. They replaced the front wheel bearings each time, however the problem still exists.the manufacturer has not been alerted.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic.the contact noticed that the front passenger side tire lost complete tire pressure.several weeks later, the rear passenger side tire lost pressure because the valve stem cracked.he identified the location of the failure as being between the rubber and the steel rim.the contact called national tire and battery (where the tires were purchased) and was informed that they could not assume any responsibility unless they received authorization from the corporate office.the contact never received notification of a recall that would enable him to take preventive measures in avoiding potential failures.he had to assume financial responsibility for the replacement of the tires.the serial number and part number of the valve stems were unknown.the failure and current mileages were 79,107.updated 11/10/08updated 11/13/08.

With the use of a gaussmeter, an instrument used to measure electro magnetic fields, the consumer found that vehicle had a high electromagnetic field. Manufacturer and the dealer was notified the consumer stated the highest level occurred when the engine draws power from the battery via the integrated motor assist or when the battery was charging.

Stereo audio quality integrity: when volume is turned on high on the factory installed stereo, the sound quality diminishes. The speakers (sound) pop and crack. My question is this... Why wouldn't the factory installed stereo speakers be designed to accomodate the high and low frequencies of the factory installed stereo? should it be expected to?

I was ready to leave for work and my car was parked out in front of my driveway. When i went to go start it up, it made a loud noise and didn't want to engage in "reverse." after five minutes of trying i tried putting it back in "park" but again the same loud noise and it still didn't engage. It only stayed in "neutral" so i left it there and didn't drive it because it was out! really honda?? this needs to be resolved because it's costing a lot of hard working americans a lot of money when it wasn't their fault! shame on you honda!

On november 15, 2012, i took my civic to don jacobs honda in lexington, ky. They sent me to the body shop where [xxx] took pictures and documented the problem with a body shop estimate. I received an email with all of the pictures and estimate of over $4,000 to repaint the car and was told somebody would get back to me once they had talked to the district rep about the problem. January 15, 2013 i sent this email:hello all, this estimate was given to me two months ago. Since then, i have requested an update on the status of this issue: once december 4, and again on december 27. I received no communication in response to either of my requests. I realize there were multiple holidays in the past two months, but my car is only looking worse as time goes on. I look forward to hearing from at least one of the three of you before the end of the week.two weeks later, when i still received no response, i sent another email january 29:it has been another two weeks, and i still have not heard an update on where we are with this issue. I have attached an updated picture of the hood of my car. As you can see, and i'm sure you know, the paint is rapidly deteriorating other areas are continuing to deteriorate as well. I feel i have been very patient for the last two and a half months, but i really need some answers before my entire vehicle is covered in this mess.i got this reply from [xxx]:i am so sorry that still haven't heard back. I left lance a voice mail as well to contact you today. February 1, 39 second voicemail: basically saying honda wasn't going to help me so i called honda in ca, expressed my frustration and tried to explain to them the horrible customer service i received. The customer service rep told me if the regional rep said they couldn't assist me with my car, then that was the decision honda made. I can't take that for an answer. My civic looks awful!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Problems with 2003 honda civic lx remote/alarm system.*mrthe consumer had a remote/alarm system installed in the vehicle.the car alarm sounds off a disturbing piercing sound each time the doors open and close.when the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer to have the sound turned off the entire system failed and the doors would not lock properly.the vehicle was returned to the dealer and the sound was turned back on.while driving the consumer became aware that the vehicle is not equipped with a door ajar indicator.

My car needs airbag inflators

Went to the store, car started with no problem.only in the store 20 minutes.when returned i was not able to start the ignition.the ignition is locked.had to call a tow truck to have the car towed.

I was in accident yesterday because my car accelerated instead of breaking and i rear ended the car in front of me in the drive up lane of walgreens pharmacy. Thankfully, no one was hurt to my knowledge. But why did this happen.

Honda recall ignition switch random failure. No problems until one day itstopped working completely. Key goes in but will not turn.

I haven't had this car in over 4 years please remove from your list

2003 honda civic hybrid on a snowy road, coming over a small rise while going around a moderate curve under 40 mph, the battery charging function, activated by driver taking foot off the gas before cresting the hill, produced progressively stronger engine braking effect on the front wheels, equivalent to an unwanted down shift and causing fishtailing and poor response to corrective steering, so that the car slid across the road and into a snow bank and concrete abutment.$6000 damage.if oncoming traffic, could have been serious injuries or fatality.due to the strong and variable [hard to predict or control] braking action of the hybrid's charging system, this car should have a skid sensor activating some kind of traction control, including interruption of the charging function as soon as a skid is detected.i think this should be ordered to be retrofitted to all the hybrids.

A chemical smell that can become so strong that it makes me light headed and nauseated comes from my air vents.i have brought it in twice and the dealer claims they can't smell anything. After they are through and i or my husband get in the car we can smell it.i feel like the dealer is lying about being able to smell it because the car is still under warranty and they don't want to fix it for free.. I have to ride with the windows down or freeze when it is cold because i cant turn on the vents w/o resulting in this horrible smell.it happens all the time.

Nothing is wrong

Takata recall - just bought car 3 mtha ago, i pulled over because my son wasnt feeling good from the heat.tried to put key in ignition swith and didnt go in or turn on switch. On.single mother, no family, or friends. Just moved from nevada. No money at the time. My son overheatedand my son got dehydrated. No faith in honda civics anymore. My son almost died for itbto an expired recall. Now i have to take from their fiod money to fix the car. How disappointed.

The vehicle experienced sudden acceleration, when the brakes were applied.the was no way to engage the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal at the same time, and was traveling at a low speed when the brake was engaged.the engine had gone up to over 3k rpm's.the dealer couldn't duplicate.scc

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic lx. The contact was driving 55 mph when the vehicle accelerated abnormally. The contact was trying to slow the vehicle down when the rpms increased to 2000. The contact applied the brakes and repeatedly shifting between d3 to d1 gears until the vehicle began to decrease in speed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 140,000.

When coming to a stop pressure was applied to the brake pedal andvehicle accelerated. Driver did not touch the accelerator pedal at all.driver was able to avoid a collision. Vehicle has been taken to the dealer several times but the problem could not be resolved.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that while reversing at approximately 2 mph, the engine rpms increased excessively and the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The contact crashed into a tree, and the trunk was split in half. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where the failure was not able to be replicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure and current mileage was 5,858.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic hybrid. While parking the rpm's began to increase rapidly and the vehicle lunged forward. The contact was forced to shift gears into park to avoid crashing into another vehicle. The contact confirmed that the pedal was not stuck when the vehicle accelerated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and stated that there were no failures. The dealer concluded that the floor mat pushed the accelerator pedal down causing the rpm's to increase; however they trimmed the floor mats around the pedal. The failure mileage was 47,531.the consumer stated she put the vehicle in reverse while attempting to parallel park, the vehicle lurched backwards on a flat steer after her foot was off the accelerator. She quickly braked to avoid hitting the parked car that was behind her. The vehicle did stop, but simultaneously the engine accelerated greatly to an rpm far greater than flooring the accelerator. She quickly out the gear shift in park and turned the ignition off, which stopped everything. The consumer stated the sudden acceleration, occurred three separate times.all three incidents happened, at very low speeds. The consumer has since sold the vehicle. Updated 12/02/14

Cruise control was stuck in accelerate and could not turn it off on the interstate. I could have been killed.neutral and full pressure to the brakes wouldn't stop it. Taking my foot off the brakes would only accelerate it more.i went 8 miles with full brakes in neutral till i was able to stop it. None of the off switches mmade any difference, i'm lucky to be alive and that i didn't hurt anyone. It started when i was on the entrance ramp to the interstate in osseo wi.i slowed down to merge, then cruise control accelerated unstoppable.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. The contact stated that while attempting to decelerate, the engine continued to rev and suddenly accelerated. The contact indicated that the failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

2003 honda civic ex with 5 speed standard transmission and with cruise control.when using cruise control, if i shift gears, after i disengage the transmission and before i re-engage the desired gear (i.e., switching gears from 4th to 5th or 4th to third or a similar operation) , cruise control does not disengage, engine revs up to redline, and i must manually kill cruise control by tapping brakes, or i can leave cruise control on, and shift into desired gear.the point is, the car is either suppose to kill the cruise control operation automatically, or at the least, not rev the engine up in an uncontrolled method.this has been happening since i purchased the car brand new (with 0 miles on it, right off the delivery truck).i thought nothing of it until i read that the toyota computer system may be the source of unintentional acceleration.

After being stopped for a few minutes at a stop lightthe car suddenly lurched forward.whereas, i might believe my foot lifted off the brake a little that should have caused the vehicle to roll forward and not suddenly accelerate.as a result, i did rear end the car in front of me.

Dt*:the contact stated while parking the vehicle, with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably.the vehicle was initially traveling less than 3 mph.the vehicle went over the concrete barrier and hit a wall.there was a police report taken at the scene.although the seat belt was worn, the contact sustained minor injuries.the vehicle was towed to the dealership, but has not yet been inspected.

Within the 8 days we owned this car, it hadaccelerated twice while my teenaged daughter was driving.these incidents happened when she was accelerating after having stopped at a stop sign.being an inexperienced driver she did not realize the problem, only commented the car felt like it was driving funny.when the incident on 08/08/03 happened, i was driving with my younger daughter in the car.we were pulling into a parking space in front of a restaurant at a very slow rate of speed, when the car suddenly accelerated, causing us to jump up onto the sidewalk and run into a cement picnic table, denting the front bumper.i had to slam on the brakes to stop the car from driving through the front window of the restaurant and possibily injuring or killing the people inside.we took the car back to the dealership, where their diagnostic technicians were unable to duplicate the problem.we were told there is nothing wrong with the car and to come and pick it up as there was nothing further they could do for us.we found on this nhtsa website that there were six other similar incidents of this model of car having sudden acceleration during slow speed or stopping situations.we provided this information to the dealership, but they are stillunwilling to help us.

On ~5/2/2009, saturday morning, i was driving my 2003 honda civic, cross 141th street from north community to south community after yard sale, at ~15mph speed. When i cross the street, i found a suv pass from west to east, then i try to stop my car, however i can not stop it. Then i have to turn left (east), then my car right front crashed with the suv left side. I remembered i push the brake gear, however it can not stop, i also used my right hand to move the gear to the n, and push my the brake so hard, then my car stopped about 300 feet away from where the car crashed. I just don't understand why at that time it takes me so long time and so far away distance to stop a car at a speed ~15mph (happened only this time). Another thing about this car: when i set up cruise control for this car, it will automatically accelerate higher than what i set up. Suppose i try to set up 65mph on highway, the car will automatically accelerate to more than 70mph. Now i can not use the cruise control system in this car.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated independently without the contact applying pressure to the accelerator pedal. The contact applied pressure to the brake pedal but the vehicle would not respond and accelerated farther. After shifting into neutral, the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate mileage was 123,000.updated 01/02/2013*ljthe consumer stated a mechanic cleaned the throttle body. The vehicle began perfoming as it should. Updated 1/7/2013

I have a 2003 honda civic.i had pulled out of my small road onto a rural highway heading into town to take my 14 year-old son to school. I had accelerated to about 45 mph and needed to slow for a car in front of me. I took my foot off of the pedal and the car continued to accelerate. It didn't just stay stuck at the speed i was going it took off like i had it floored. I had my son look down and check the mat and he even pulled on the pedal but it made no difference.i controlled the speed somewhat by pushing on the brakes with both feet very hard and was able to keep from overtaking other cars. Luckily, the intersection i crossed did not require me to stop and i was able to push on the brakes hard enough to be able to pull over and turn the car off in the parking lot of a local mechanic.the brakes were smoking badly.the mechanic saw how frightened i was and came out and started the car and it was still revving at full throttle. He shut it off and said they would push it in later. When they did look at it later, it wasn't doing it anymore.they drove it and it didn't do it again. I called the local dealership(ike's honda in marion il) and they brushed me off. I then called the honda company. They called me the next day and offered to do diagnostics for free if i brought it to the dealer. They wouldn't commit to fixing it. I had it towed there(on my insurance because they rep. Never called me back even though i left 2 messages) because i was afraid to drive it. That was fri., february 26,2010 and i have not heard from them yet. What happens if they don't find anything? i am afraid to drive the car again.i was very lucky the first time. What happens if they say the found something? are they really going to let me drive off in it if i can't afford to fix it?

As i was leaving the parking lot of a shopping center, and about to get on the roadway, i came to a complete stop.when the opportunity came to proceed, i stepped on the gas pedal (throttle) and it got stuck to the floor for approximately 10 seconds.i immediately stepped on the brake pedal as hard as i could, to prevent the car from moving forward at a high rate of speed, however the car kept creeping forward.i managed to engage the emergency brake, which seemed to have helped.as an attempt to loosen the throttle, i shifted the shift lever from "drive" to "park," back and forth a couple of times, to no avail.as i was about to attempt to turn the ignition key to the off position, the throttle became unstuck.during the incident, the engine was running at high rpms.i took the car to the dealership and explained to them what i had experienced.the master mechanic took the car for a test-drive and confirmed that the throttle was getting stuck.during the actual inspection, the mechanic(s) found out that the throttle body and cable needed to be replaced.the repair was done and i had not had another such incident since then.

The contact owns a 2003 honda civic. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated independently without depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle would not decelerate. When the contact removed her foot from the brake pedal the speed increased. The contact merged onto a grassy area and shut the engine off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage 130,000.

While driving at approximately 10 mph throttle cable broke.owner was able to coast into a parking lot and call a tow truck to have the vehicle transported to a local dealer. The dealer replaced the throttle cable. Vehiclewas under warranty.

When disengaging the cruise control it disengaged on the panel but kept going. Repeated attempts to disengage met with failure. The speed accelerated up to 70+ mph. Shifted into neutral, it red lined out to 7,000 rpm, shut it down. Restarted, cruise control locked in. Shut down, restarted and it finally disengaged. Have not used since that date.

While driving my 2003 civic hybrid using cruise control, the accel/decel feature on the steering wheel malfunctions. I am driving on the highway, engage the cruise control, using the steering wheel buttons, and then press the accel button and the cars begins to decelerate. I have paid extra careful attention to be sure that i am not pressing the incorrect button in error, and i am in fact pressing the accel button, yet the car continues to decelerate. At three different times, i have tested this failure and it is an intermittent problem. This could be a serious safety hazard as the first time i discovered this malfunction, i was getting onto the highway attempting to accelerate to merge into traffic and the car began decelerating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Consumer stated upon entering the driveway of her home, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and could not be stopped by applying the brakes, the vehicle hit the rear wall of the garage causing damage to both the automobile and her home.

The front windshield on my 2003 honda civic hybrid has many fine and larger scratches running every which way which produces a lot of glare, especially at night from the lights of oncoming cars.

Issue 1)driver-side sun visor broke off while repositioning to block out obstructive glare; caused driver to pull off road as glare prevented safe driving; sun visor was replaced at consumers expense in 2012.issue 2)during 2012, driver-side door lock became more difficult to unlock, initially intermittent issue.honda dealership said not a problem.june 2013 the key would get stuck/unable to unlock or lock door consistently; therefore lock was replaced at consumers expense.

Premature and complete failure of climate control panel operating heat, air, and defroster in vehicle.

When the heat control was set to maximum, even if the radio was playing low, one could not hear any outside noise, such as horn blowing or other warning devices.

Premature and complete failure of climate control panel operating heat, air, and defroster in vehicle.

The rear window is not able to be fully cleaned.the bottom 1/4 is not able to reached causing poor visibility out of window. Window appears to be foggy and is worse in hot weather.

Honda civic hybrid: when outside temperature is very low and car is cold, the drivers side electric window does not roll back up after it has been rolled down. Once the car has warmed the window will roll up but this can take several minutes. January is very cold to be driving with the window down. I have taken the car in for service on another occasion that this occured but the honda dealer stated that there was no defect found and, subsequently, made no adjustment.

I was driving my car at normal speed when the passenger side mirror popped out.i did not hit anything and it didn't show any collision related damages. The service center informed us that someone hit the vehicle although there are no signs of it.

While driving 55 mph the sun roof blew out without warning allowing rain to enter the vehicle.

I bought my honda civic ex in 2003 from lute riley honda of richardson. Not long after buying it, maybe 6 months, a small crack in the windshield on the driver's side was noticed incidentally, although no debris hitting the windshield was noted. The crack extends all the way from the bottom edge of the windshield, and since i haven't attended to the crack due to job schedule, it now extends up more than half the length of the glass. No point of impact crater has ever been noticed anywhere on the windshield. Multiple incidents have been cited here on this nhtsa complaints as to their similar windshield crack experience. I was prompted to look into this nhtsa website complaints list when i noticed that many friends/relatives who purchased honda civics over the last 4-5 years were having a windshield crack develop in the same location as mine. I am quite willing to have a honda dealer verify the lack of point of impact so that they cannot explain away this incidence as some ficititous debris hitting the windshield, especially in the face of similar complaints here.

For the last two days, after having my oil changed for the first time on my new honda civic hybrid, i was unable to get the windshield washer solvent to spray onto my windshield.(january 27/28, 2004)this presented a serious hazard since the inclement weather made it necessary for road crews to lay a geat deal of salt and sand on the highways to combat the freezing rain .i took the car to the dealer on the morning of the 28th to complain about the problem.the service rep said i should go across the the street to cherrydale auto parts and purchase the yellow solution that was good to sub freezing temperatures which i did.after putting the new solvent in the reservoir the problem was solved.i would like to know, however, why it is that dealerships are allowed to use substandard products in their service which may potentially harm their customers and their customer's families.is it a policy of honda u.s. To produce excellent cars and then have the occupants killed so their dealerships can save pennies on the windshiiel washer solvent they use in their scheduled service maintenance.there is a good reason that the wipers and the delivery of solvent to the windshield is part of a vehicles safety inspection.brown's arlington honda used substandard solvent that could have resulted in my death.i was told that many had complained of the same problem.they then sent me across the street to solve the problem myself.truly this is pennywise and pounds foolish.

Left rear tire exploded at highway speed which caused a sever accident including thecar rolling over 3 times leaving me upside down trapped in the vehicle. The tires on the vehicle were purchased new 6 months prior to the accident.had very few miles on the tires.
