My car was stolen and someone removed all air bags.

I received a notice that my 2000 honda civic was included in the takata airbag recall, but honda has offered no remedy. What should i do?

Honda sent me a letter in the mail telling me my car's driver airbag may not be working correctly. They said they didn't have parts to repair it yet and that they would reach out when they had them. That was in march and now it's august. It's almost a half year now that i've been driving a car that might not even have a working air bag in it. I've called them multiple times asking about it and they just say they don't have them and they can't even give me a time frame for when they might. This is just not acceptable for a recall on the driver airbag. They won't even give me any options to stay safe other than don't drive the car.

American honda has failed to remedy the safety recall for my vehicle withina reasonable period of time. I received first notification in march 2020.

Takata recall air bags

My car has a recall on it that hasn't been fixed

Takata airbag recall.nothing has happened.i want the airbag replaced since there is a recall.

I was involved in a horrible car crash on march 15, 2008. An 18-wheeler swerved into my lane while driving on the highway. When the 18-wheeler swerved, the back of his load hit (the 1st) time on the passenger side. I was then sucked underneath the 18-wheeler, flipped several times while being drug for 100 yards still underneath the 18-wheeler the entire time. Once the vehicle stopped, i was upside down hanging from the 18-wheeler. The airbags in my 2000 honda civic never deployed from any side. I was hit with a major impact at every angle upside down and all around. The er medical had to do on-site procedures due to the damage to my head, arm, and leg. They were unable to take my seatbelt off, it had to be cut off. I had a problems in the past with my driver's side seatbelt getting stuck. On a normal day, i normally would have ro jerk the sealtbelt off of me. Please advise me on this situation. I am just now being able to report the airbag situation because i have been in the hospital due to the terrible accident.

I received recall notice in the mail from honda for nhtsa recall 20v-027 on march 18, 2020 that states that honda is unable to inspect/repair the vehicle at this time. I emailed them and asked if they would provide me with a free (safe) loaner vehicle until they could fix my unsafe vehicle.they called me on the phone today, march 24, 2020 (1-888-234-2138) and said that they would not provide a loaner vehicle, and that they were sorry, but the repair of my vehicle might take another year from today. I don't find this acceptable, that i have to drive a vehicle that might injure or kill me.....for another year.

I was involved in a single car, weather related accident.i was traveling approximately 35-40 miles per hour in heavy snow.i was wearing my seatbelt which came unlatched upon initial impact with a guard rail on the rear passenger side.my car then crossed the road and went into a ditch, striking some large boulders.that impact was on the front, driver side of the vehicle.the airbag did not deploy and the car was significantly damaged and declared a total loss.i was injured with a broken right arm, broken right leg, nine broken ribs and significant lacerations to my head and right ear from impacting the rear view mirror and front windshield.i spent 12 days in a critical care unit and 18 days in a rehabilitation center for physical therapy.i had to have plates and screws installed in my leg and arm to repair the broken bones.my husband inspected and tested the driver seatbelt and while it did appear to hold on some solid latches of the belt, was able to observe it fail and come unlatched after hearing a solid click/latch sound and then pulling with hand strength on the belt having it come unlatched.

I was in a head on collision going about 30 mph and andmy air bag did not go off upon impact.i was wearing my seatbelt so i sustained only minor injuries.

According to nhtsa recall number 20v-027, my vehicle is equipped with a defective airbag that, if deployed in an accident, could seriously injure or kill me. Honda states thatfree recall inspections and free repairs will not begin for one year, as alternative replacement parts are not yet available. What am i supposed to do until then? i travel around 200 miles weekly for work, and i cannot afford to buy another car. I feel like i'm risking my life every time i step in my car now. Would i be better off just removing the airbag myself?

Several weeks ago, my car was recalled.because of the car's history, the air bag inflator is more likely than average to kill me if it activates (explodes).the dealerships in my area (there are several) cannot obtain replacement parts...needed to fix the problem...for 18 to 24 months.this delay is due to manufacturing issues and the coronavirus pandemic.my car is not designed to allow the installation of an on/off switch for the air bags.therefore, i would like to have the exploder disabled until replacement parts are available.none of the dealerships in my area will do this, without written authorization from the nhtsa.i've been trying to fins a way to ask the nhtsa to send me a writtendeactivation authorization.also...the dealership would need instructions on how this (disabling the bomb in my steering wheel) can be done without affecting the normal operation of the car.i would need approved directions from the nhtsa to give to the dealership's mechanics.alternately, i can continue to drive my car on a daily basis, in the presence of an active, deadly, explosive device...for the next 18 to 24 months.

The cars safety belts have had trouble retracting for about 5 years. I was unaware of being able to report safety issues, or would have much sooner. Most recently the low beams went out. The srs light is also on. The cars horn is wired into the srs system. So you loose two major safety features at once. Very bad design. The drivers seat had been loose for years. The skid plate/floorboard cracked and allowed the bolts or hardware to corrode. I ran the vin and was surprised no recalls are available, as the problems my family is experiencing have been recalled on similar honda's.

Manual transmission jumps while driving also does not want to go into second gear. Makes wierd grinding sound while driving slow. Car shuttersand shakes violently while in 5th gear in excess of 70 mph. Car shuts off by its self( was told vin not in sequence for ignition recall). Right front springs sticks and some times makes a ( " boing" ) sound. Car keeps pulling to right even after alignment. When heater or defroster are on they make a loud chirping sound. On cold or rainy days steam will pour out of engine compartment smelling like radiator fluid. Was in 2 minor accidents one front end colision one rear end colission both about 30 mph and air bags did not deploy. Engine is becoming rusty and coroded. Drivers power window is slow to go up and front seat belts will not retract. Engine light comes on and car loses power and gas mielage. Goes offf when gas tank is filled. Car has been to dealer numerous times for honda scheduled service and also while it was under warranty. All the problems adressed above were told to dealer who said they could not find a problem..but they sure did when my warranty expired. Now they will not fix anyhting unless i pay for it.

The contact owns a 2000 honda civic.the contact stated that the drivers side seat belt was unable to retract and would popout of place, causing the srs light to illuminate.when the srs light was illuminated it deactivated the air bag system. The failure could potentially cause injury during a crash. The dealer advised the contact have the seat belt buckle replaced since there was a lifetime warranty. The seat belt buckle was repaired; however, the srs light continued to illuminate deactivating the air bag system.the manufacturer confirmed that there was a lifetime warranty on seat belts but not on the air bag system.the current and failure mileages were 155,000.

The contact owned a 2000 honda civic. The contact stated that a recall notification was received of nhtsa campaign number: 20v027000 (air bags) and the vehicle was taken for the repair at robertson's palmdale honda, 455 auto vista dr, palmdale, ca 93551, where the recall repair was completed. However, the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, and was veering off to the right side of the road, and when making a left turn, the contact tried to correct herself, the wheel turned to the left and crashed into a telephone pole and was wrapping around the pole. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained a fracture risk, a bruise chest, a head concoction split open that required medical attention. The contact stated that she was unconscious and was not aware if a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 265,000.

While sitting at an intersection consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle.upon impact, both frontal air bags deployed. The windshield was shattered and cracked. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicdetermined that the air bags were sensitive for the make/model and year. Air bags could not be deployed if non sensitive.this could not happen due to the computer sending out the signals for the deployment of the air bags . Driver sustained head injuries.

While pulling into a parking space, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and lurchedinto the air, resulting in a collision.the consumer's foot was on the brake pedal whenthe acceleration occurred.the dealership was not providing any assistance to determine what caused the failure.also the driver's side seat belt failed to retract, it was loose.this resulted in the consumer impacting the steering wheel.prior to this incident the seat belt recallrepairs were performed 3 times.the air bag did not deploy as well. *sc

My 17 year old daughter went through a red light on dec. 12, 2000.she sideswiped a 1993 volvo. She hit so hard that our 2000 honda civic did a 180 degree spin then re-hitting the volvos rear with the passenger side of the 2000 civic. This then pushed the volvo into a stopped jeep at the red light.our honda civic initially hit the volvo straight on at about 40+ miles per hour.the honda's front end was completely destroyed.the problem is that neither airbag in the honda deployed.this was not an offset crash.the front end directly hit the driver side of the volvo.no braking was involved and the volvos front air bags did deploy.my daughters legs were very bruised as well as her side and neck.she was wearing her seatbelt as this is the only thing that saved her life.the 200 honda civic has been classified as totaled by american family insurance.i bought this newer model car for the airbag safety features especially for such a young driver.why at an impact of 40+ miles per hour with a direct frontal hit would the airbags not deploy in a 2000 model honda civic???yet a 93 volvo when hit from the side recognized enough impact to deploy its front air bags.

My 17 year old son was in a one car accident monday morning.he was driving a 2000 honda civic lx.he was traveling east bound on i-30.time of the accident was around 7 am.the car was on cruise control at 70 mph.he apparently dozed off and woke up in the median.scared to death.he came back up on the interstate.he thought he was putting the brakes on but said he was probably really giving it gas.he spun around a couple of times on the interstate and crashed head on into a guard rail.fortunately he is ok.he said he had to be going 40-50 mph when he hit the guard rail.my question is.when scott hit the guard rail he went forward.the seat belt did not tighten up.he hit the steering wheel and came back when the seat belt finally tightened up.there was no deployment of the air bag since it was a front impact crash at over 40 mph, should the airbags have went off.the place where the car is thinks that it is totaled.geico looked at it, who is my insurance agent and said it would cost around $4300to fix it.thanks for your help in this matter.

After i replaced a failed battery in our 2000 honda civic, the car ran rough after getting warm and stalled twice in traffic.while no one suffered more than rattled nerves in this case, it is possible that someone could be injured or killed in such circumstances.i subsequently found from the dealer at a cost of $162 that the car loses track of its idle setting when the battery is replaced and it has to be re-entered.this information is not in the owners manual.this is both a stupid and unsafe design, let alone expensive.changing a battery is a common and ordinarily simple procedure practiced by millions of people.i think honda should have to send warning car owners of this "feature" of their car and how to reset the code them selves or with instruction to take it to a dealer who will reset it at no cost.alternatively, honda should be required to retrofit the cars with non volatile memory so the car does not require such service.i don't know when this feature was added to honda designs, but it does not happen on our earlier model.our experience may be just the tip of a coming iceberg.

While driving at both city and highway conditions car will lose all power and shut down and coast to a stop..will start up again after 5 to10 efforts to start.this is interrmittent problem.you cannot predict when it will happen or how often it will occur.

The contact owns a 2000 honda civic. The contact stated that the key was difficult to remove from the ignition. The contact had to maneuver the key numerous times in order to remove it from the ignition switch. Also, the vehicle stalled several times and the contact had to wait a brief moment in order to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to more than two independent mechanics and they were not able to diagnose the failure. The contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 02v120000 (electrical system). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the ignition switch. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000. Passenger side window was stuck in the open position.mechanic (aaa-listed) diagnosed master window switch, installed new oem master window switch.this week, sept. 2014, less than a year after the repair, the same window is stuck in the closed position.i am reporting b/c 5 hours researching this issue online indicates the problem to be pervasive, ongoing and difficult to diagnose.repairs can be very expensive, causing some owners to just leave the window closed.i can find no recalls from honda.obviously, an open window is dangerous b/c anyone can access the car or the driver.a closed window is dangerous if escape is necessary.i feel honda should issue a recall and repair the problem.thank you.

Car is sluggish up hills and is now stalling around turns with power steering going off. Car is a 5speed and when put on gas it restarts.mechanic replaced spark plugs and crank sensor but problem got worse. Wondering if ignition switch could be issue as i see it was an issue on other civic models. Mechanic both at honda and our personal could not figure out what's wrong and problem keeps coming up despite supposed fixing.we've spent over $1,000 already trying to fix it.

The problems i recently faced with my 2000 honda civic vp model:1. Transmission spontaneously skip gears and causes my car to jerk and loose control for a period of time. 2. When the car downshifts/slows down the transmission also skips or do not downshift smoothly, thus causing the car to jerk. Causes minor strains to the passenger's and the driver's neck.3. Whenever i or my family get out of the vehicle we get static shock. This is extremely dangerous for a family who have a baby or children. 4. Car dies when i put the car in neutral and i loose power steering and other primary car functions. This uncertain event can cause potential fatality or serious car accidents.

Car stalls out after higher speed driving, usually coming to a hard stop, requiring me to restart.once it happened while i was driving on the freeway, so it was a bit scary, a safety concern. Usually while coming to a stop is when it occurs exiting freeways. I would like honda to fix, but they tell me my vin is not affected but my make model and year are, nhtsa campaign number 02v120000, and my car has the symptoms of an ignition problem. Also the ignition switch is rough and sometimes the key jams.note that it could be that its past 15 years since the recall notice went out, but i never received the notice.i feel they are liable for this repair, i never got.i should not have to foot the bill and hope for a reimbursement as was suggested by their customer service rep. Anything you can do to compel them to fix it, i would greatly appreciate.the most recent occurrence was on 02/25/18 exiting the freeway and coming to a stop.

During the day the inside of my car had a burning plastic smell.later that night, my headlight low beams would not work.i had to drive home with the passing beams wedged on.today i took the headlight/turn signal switch off of the steering column.the assembly had started to melt and the harness connector that was attached to it is singed!apparently i am not the first to have this problem in a honda vehicle.please let me know what can be done.

The contact owns a 2000 honda civic. While driving 30 mph and other various speeds and at a traffic light, the engine stalled. The failure occurred intermittently. The oil and battery warning lights were illuminated when the vehicle stalled. The dealer was called and stated that his vin was not covered under recall nhtsa#02v120000; electrical system: ignition: switch. He will be responsible for the repairs. The manufacturer was called andstated that his vin was not covered under the recall and offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 98,250.

Car completely shuts down while going down the road- i see there was/is a recall by honda of a defective ignition switch

The contact owns a 2000 honda civic. While driving 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was informed of recall 02v120000 (electrical system: ignition: switch). The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the vehicle was included but due to an aftermarket switch and alarm installation, they could not repair the problem. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

When the brakes were applied, the vehicle would shut down until it coasted to a stop.the dealer found no defects nor did they duplicate the problem.the manufacturer told the consumer to reproduce the problem.the ignition died and the vehicle was stuck in gear, but the vehicle continued on gaining momentum. *sc

I have had quite a few problems with this poorly made vehicle.one, the ignition switch problem.i have called for help with no success. Thank you by the way honda!the key gets stuck in the ignition and needs to be started a couple of times to get it out.next problem, the car's transmission is terrible.very jumpy on highway, engine is quite clumsy on regular road driving.now the main problem why i have come here because i feel i was wronged considering i bought practically a new vehicle. (i was less than 2 years old when i had first purchased it).this being my first newer vehicle, i guess i can say i owned older cars that held together much better.the car for the past month has been very jumpy on the highway.it feels like it wants to stall when driving, which makes me feel very endangered when driving.i recently found out by my own exploration that there is an ignition switch recall.according to the honda.com website that i registered with, there is no safety recalls, (where they fail to mention all other recalls).nothing is posted on this.i have been to numerous mechanics and finally may have found that the ignitor is bad.funny enough i know 2 other people with hondas who have replaced their's at their own expense.now, i contacted the local honda with no help!they to call american honda (which i did) and apparently honda decided to recall "some" of the cars with these ignitor's in them.i will be making plenty of calls to get heard. I thought that honda was a stable name.apparently not since there is plenty of complaints in the air (which would be expected, because things do go wrong). Anyway,i am glad i got to complain here.hopefully i will be heard.let it also be said, i am a struggling college student who was looking to only buy a stable car, and instead got a world of headaches!

Similar experience found in internet re: honda crv car dies/stalls for no apparent reason; no other indication that something else is wrong.when clutch is pushed in and/or car placed in neutral; engine just dies. Dt

When i start my car, sometimes it will start hard. There have been a couple of times where it wouldn't turn over unitl the 3 or 4th times i tried to start it. Also, after i drive a little while my clutch will make a clicking noise and in first gear when i take off my car makes a cluncking noise. Both noises are un usually loud. You can definately hear them outside my car too.

After returing to my parked car, i put the key in and turned the key, no dashboard lights went on and the engine did not crank.i turned it back to the off position, turned off the vent blower and tried again.then it started just fine.another time i waited 30 seconds and it started after failing the first time.honda says (9/30/2002) my car isn't included in the ignition switch recall.it wouldn't fail for the dealer.right now, i'm guessing that i don't need to do anything with with the blower switch, just retrying the ignition seems like it will work.we'll see when it occurs again. There are many more problems with this car. This is my first car i have ever bought new and i am so upset that honda is doing very little to help me. No safety defect mentione din summary.

Consumer states that while trying to start vehicle would be hard to start. Dealer notified.

I bought a used 2000 honda civic dx that would sputter very quickly sporadically.it became more frequent as i drove it more.now it will just shut down and have to sit before it will start again.this is very, very dangerous to me and my daughter as we work the night shift and have had this happen to us on the freeway.we could have been killed, or killed others if they would have hit us in the middle of the freeway!as i'm finding out, there is some kind of unofficial recall on the honda's ignition switches.is this true?we need to get to the bottom of this, as i have had it put on a diagnostic machine and it doesn't read any codes being defective.....it won't unless it's doing it at the time.what can i do?

When the car was 2 weeks old, we returned from a drive and found the car would not shut off, even with the ignition in the "off" position and the key removed.the engine sounded as though it was trying to start itself, even though it was still running.i put the key back in and turned it to the "on" position, at which point the unusual noise disappeared, and the car seemed to idle normally.i turned it off again, and the noise returned as the car kept running.i turned the key on and off a few times before the engine finally stopped.as i got out of the car, i noticed smoke rising from under the hood.i opened the hood and saw that a fire was burning on the starter and the nearby rubber hoses.i unsuccessfully tried to blow out the flames, which we put out using a fire extinguisher from our apartment building, which we were parked in front of.all damaged parts were replaced by the dealership service department, although there is still a burnt smell evident after driving the car.i informed honda of the problem through their "new owner survey" and a letter to their customer relations zone office.

Purchased honda civic sedan lx in 8/2000.to date, the car has continuously stalled or not started.brought to dealers attention twice without any action by dealer.noticed the recall notice, but was never notified by dealer or honda. On 4/18/2004, brought car to dealer again for recourse.

I was driving home from work on friday evening, september 16, 2005, at approximately 5:30 pm est in my 2000 honda civic lx 4dr sedan.i came to a complete stop at a stop street, and was about to accelerate and make a right turn.i started moving and then my car went completely dead and stalled.i was able to get the car to the side of the road, put it in park, and then restart it.however, from that point forward, i found as i would be coming to a stop and idling, that the car would want to go completely dead and stall on me.i took my car to our dealership, autosport honda, in bridgewater, nj, and had them take a look at the problem.they told me that the ignition switch was in need of a tune up, and that the wires leading from the ignition to the engine were deteriorating.i decided to look my vin number up to see if there were any recalls.i found, based on the honda civic lx 4dr sedans, that there was a recall may 16, 2002 (campaign number 02v120000) for the electrical system component, more specifically, the ignition switch.the recall states "electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started."the recall further states that "worn contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash."i brought this to my dealerships attention, and he told me he already ran my vin number [xxx], and that it was not registered under the recall.i asked him if this was the same type of component problem as in the recall and he said yes.he said it is more common in stick-shift hondas then automatics.i am bringing this to your attention because the issue i am having with my vehicle is the same issue that was recalled in may 2002, except under different vin numbers.i believe this is a serious issue, and attention should be given to it. American honda motor corp. Has refused to honor recall of the ignition switch on my 2000 civic, despite that the symptoms are exactly as described in their recall and model and year are consistent .they tell me my vin number is not in the designated sequence.the car stalls for no reason when stopped at lights, etc.this is dangerous, as acknowledged by honda in their recall description.

I got into a car one afternoon and heard a rattling sound, i turned off the a/c to make sure it wasnt the engine. As soon as i turned it off, the sound stopped.i turned it back on and drove down the road and heard something fly out from underneath my car and suddenly the air was blowing hot out of the a/c. I took it to a shop to get it looked at and was told that it was the clutch from the a/c that had broken off and it now needs to be replaced. In replacing the clutch, i was also told that the compressor and drier also needed to be replaced which would cost me a total of $950.00. Before i had taken it in, i was told that if it was still blowing air than it wasn't the compressor, so why would it need to be replaced? of course, honda wont stand behind it and pay for the a/c unit being fixed. I bought it brand new in 2000 and havent even had it 3 years yet.

Vehicle's main motor seal is leaking oil, which can cause motor to blowout. Please provide more details. Ph...

While driving i smelled then saw smoke coming out of the gear shift area. I pulled over, turned off and exited my car. I opened the hood and within minutes my car was engulfed in flames. The fire department had to come put it out.

My engine needed more oil and the oil light did not come on in my car and the engine ended up getting burned out. The check engine light also did not come on.

While drving the vehicle, the engine just quits.it happened 3 times today. It is very dangerous.

"black death syndrome"--where the compressor starts seizing up and shredding the a/c cluth into metal shaving into the a/c system. A very known issue to honda technicians and can even get it fixed out of warranty out of goodwill. The a/c will just give out one day there and they will actually have to open up the compressor to see if this is the cause. Any year and model! *ph

While driving engine overheated and consumer lost control of vehicle without a warning.

I was at a stop light and had the a/c running it was working fine and blowing cold.while accelerating the light i heard a loud metal noise and thump and the air conditioner started blowing hot.i took the car to a dealer and they informed me that part of the air conditioner fell off, the fan clutch????, i am not a mechanic but i have never had problems with the air conditioner an i know parts of a car should not fall off while driving down the road. The air conditioner has never been worked on and the car is serviced regular, the car only has 87,000 miles. I am being told it will be about 1,400.00 dollars to have this repaired.

Failure of 2 air conditioning systems in a 2000 honda civic, presently on a new 3rd system.vehicle mileage is 35,000.honda states that it is not responsible for the current failure.

Extremely disappointed.how can a 2 months old radiator be so fragile?honda denied it was a defect by manufacturer which i have to end up paying $511.65 for the replacement of radiator.i feel like being cheated and robbed.

Have head gasket leak, my mechanic says that this has to be a manufacturing defect because he can see nothing else that would cause this. *la

The contact owns a 2000 honda civic.the contact stated that the vehicle vibrates while driving 30 mph.the tires grip the pavement and the brake pedal appears to be elevated, creating difficulty when they are depressed.the rpms run high when idling and the vehicle begins decelerate while in motion.the contact pulled off the road and shut off the vehicle.the vehicle restarted, but the failure recurred soon after.the contact believes the failure may be caused by the fuel pump system or the accelerator may be stuck.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure.the vin and engine size were unknown.the current mileage is 80,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.

The vehicles malfunction indicator light came on indicating a problem after running 2,255 miles within seven months. The engine ran very roughly and hesitated on acceleration, making it very difficult to control. The service depatment stated they tried to diagnosis and fix the problem but did not know what was wrong. Later they said the valves were to tight and consequently adjust them. After the vehicle was returned, the next day it would not start. Eventually the vehicle started very roughly and shook violently; the malfunction indicator lamp came back on. The service department found the fuel injectors leaking and replaced all four-fuel injectors.after these malfunctions and repairs, i noticed a change in the performance of the vehicles acceleration power, and the idling was noisier. The gas mileage seemed less and the vehicle has stalled on a few occasions.this complaint to the nhtsa concerns a defective and nonconforming vehicle that was likely to caused severe bodily injury or death if driven. The vehicle was sold with defects that not only jeopardized the safety of the consumer but the public was also at risk.. That risk of fuel leaking from injectors and engine malfunction (valves) could have caused a fire, pollution, and collision hazard. Such defects and nonconformities breach the implied and expressed warrantees and violate various federal laws intended to protect the consumer and the public. The expectation of a new vehicle to perform in a safe and reliable manner should not be compromised by defective manufacturing, and inadequate service. I am requesting an investigation of this problem. It would be a life saving service to the public who is unsuspecting that a new, well maintained vehicle would run for less than 2,300 miles and have dangerous defects appear. The pattern of neglect that begun with the manufacture, persisted with the sale and the service of the vehicle by the dealer. This lack of due care could get somebody killed.

I have never had an issue with my 2000 honda civic si because i had the recommended maintenance performed , oil changes every 3000-4000 miles and on may 17th,2000 honda civic si with only 60,000 miles-blown head gasket...the car is at honda west pending-a goodwill concession from honda.

At 50mph and with no warning transmission will automatically switch to lower gear. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.the transmission would not disengage out of gear when the consumer stops pushing the gas pedal. The engine makes a knocking noise while warming.

5 speed - engine stalls while in fifth gear.have to pull car over and restart.car taken repeatedly to repair and no problems could be found.finally looked up recalls on insurance company's web site and saw recall for engine switch.took car to dealer to repair and egnition switch replaced.stall happened again.called honda customer service and was informed there were no recalls on cars in my vin sequence.said i would have to take car to dealer again for repair.no one can seem to tell me why the car keeps stalling.it only happens when i'm driving in 5th gear at 50+ speeds.situation is scary because of the speeding traffic around me.not sure what else i can do.dt

Intermittently when braking, transmission will shift down on a slight to moderate incline.dealer has been notified.half of the time the transmission shifts without warning at up to 55 mph under light to moderate braking.this could cause a serious accident. Consumer also states that there is a metallic clacking or knocking noise when the engine is warmed. *jg

Consumer states intermittently while driving on a slight downhhill between 35 to 55 mph and applying very light to moderate braking, the transmission will shift gears from overdrive to third gear.when this happens the tachometer andspeedometer will jump up one inch even though vehicle is slowing down.there is a metallic clacking or knocking noise when the engine is warmed up in gear at idle with the brake on.

Consumer states that after turning vehicle off, he hears a ticking noise, dealer informed consumer that the noise is not a problem and should happen more on colder days.

The car could not start four times since december 2000. The quality of the car is really bad, and it should be recalled.

While driving, car will jerk violently, feels like several cylinders are not firing, then start back up again.after a few seconds of this kind of sputtering, the engine will throttle down and then die.while it is having the problem there is a drastic loss of acceleration.if the gas pedal is pushed nothing happens and it bogs down more.after the car has died it cannot be restarted for several minutes.this car has been to the dealership 11 times since i bought it, owning it a total of 16 months. Twice it had to be towed to the dealer, and once they were able to start it immediately after it was delivered. It has been in service for a total of 29 days.the first time i took it in, i had driven 4,000 miles and only owned the car less than 3 months.problem is sporadic, many times when i have taken it in for service they have not found anything wrong with it, then it will die on me on the way home.the catalytic converter has been replaced 3 times, spark plugs twice, and oxygen sensor once, and it still has the same problem i took it in for the first time.*nlm

After starting the vehicle consumersmelled gas fumes. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Car has been running fine since i had purchased it as a secondhand vehicle. At 130,xxx miles, the check engine light came on, upon using a obd2 scanner, it was discovered that the primary oxygen sensor heater has malfunctioned. When the heat shield to the exhaust manifold was removed, a huge crack about 2 inches was found in the center of the manifold above the oxygen sensor.

Took my car in for regular service, immediately after picking it up, car kept rattling & sputtering.came back in and they stated "suddenly" the manifold was cracked & the bolt for the heat shield was broken off.looked online & saw that there are many many issues with cracked manifolds with civics, so much that a handful of model years (but not mine) was recalled. Mine is just considered out of warranty, & is now a safety (fumes can cause sickness) & environmental issue.given how i babied this car, the only reason this would have cracked is either a major design flaw/weakness (or the mechanics really messed up my car). Since it's such a major reported (ignored) issue, it's clearly a design flaw.

2000 honda civic dx-vp o2 sensor failed at 125,000 miles due to a cracked exhaust manifold at the sensor - no information as to how much earlier the crack might have occurred before the sensor was damaged.the sensor failure generates an error code and causes the check engine light to come on, and creates rough idling and stalling in traffic, creating serious safety issues.the vehicle will not pass the state emissions inspection in that condition.the only way to correct the issue is to replace the cracked exhaust manifold and catalytic converter assembly along with the o2 sensor.honda was contacted and denies knowledge of any significant issues with cracked manifolds and sensor failures on 2000 honda civics and refuses to provide any assistance with repairs.it is well documented that the cracked manifold is a significant problem on civics on all model years from 1996 to 2003.honda issued extended warranties on many of these model years that fails to provide any assistance to most owners, since the defect commonly appears outside of the extended warranty period.honda and it's dealers are also being allowed to generate additional revenues from the sale of replacement manifolds and installation to correct the very defect that it created.this defect has not yet been corrected on my vehicle due to the expense involved ($1000) and the vehicle inspection not expiring until august.this is clearly a well documented defect for which honda should be held accountable.honda should be required to make the repairs or provide some type of assistance or compensation to the owners for the repairs, which are necessary in order to pass state vehicle inspection and keep the vehicle operating legally, and to prevent serious safety issues from the stalls in traffic.

I had a check engine light indicating a bad catalytic converter on my 2000 honda civic.the cat was replaced under warranty by the dealer in march '08 only to have the exact same scenario repeated in july '08.now i'm facing the same situation again.so in summary, the catalytic converter has now been replaced 3 times in a 20 month period.from all my research this is very rare.my suspicions are that the electronic control module (ecm) is defective and truly the root of the problem.however, i believe that the dealer has purposely avoided revealing the ecm as possible cause as it would be a costly repair for them as the ecm falls under epa emissions warranty..

When gettingin or out of vehicle or when rockingvehicle could hear a squeaky noise. Dealer told consumer that problem was with exhaust donut which had been replaced five times.

Exhaust manifold is cracked for 2nd time; also have 2 other honda civics (99 and 97) with same problem - obvious manufacturers defect. Honda will not cover repairs.

The vehicle's rear oxygen sensor failed. The front sensor was replaced as well.the consumer requested reimbursement. *sc

The check engine light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the repair shop where it was determined that the oxygen sensor was inoperative and had to be replaced.please provide any additional information.

Honda civic 2000 model. Car only had 15600 miles when the problem started.une 25, 2003 - malfunction indicator light was on. Honda adjusted the valves.june 28, 2003 - malfunction indicator light was on. Honda replaced oxygen sensor.july 3, 2003 - malfunction indicator light was on. Honda changed pressure regulator.july 21, 2003 - car stalled and engine died. Honda replaced fuel filter, fuel pump set, ignition coil, ignition control module.aug 25, 2003 - car stalled, engine running but no acceleration (does not move), car makes clacking noise. Honda said they will change the fuel tank and fuel pump. Car is still at honda. My car has been to the dealers for the 5th time in less than 2 months. The down time is more than normal.

Honda civic exhaust manifold; after owning a 2000 honda civic for two years, i have had to replace the entire exhaust, oxygen sensors and now the exhaust manifold. I became upset after this series of burdens on me, so, i decided to conduct research on-line. Thus, i found numerous reports and similar complaints from fellow honda civic owners. It appears civcis created between 1992-2000 have had deffective exhaust manifolds causing many consumers to have to fight to get a resolution through honda, the manufacturer. Honda is reviewing each vehicle on an individual basis, rather than admitting that their product, widespread, is deffective.

Request for reimbursement for defective part replacement on 2000 honda civic.*mr (nar)

On monday morning, august 29th, i started my 2000 honda civic cx hatchback and the check engine light came on.this is the first time it had ever happened; the car has 82,000 miles on it.i called cush honda escondido and brought it in for service the same day.they later called me to tell me that their computer showed that the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced and the manifold on the catalytic converter was cracked and the entire unit needed to be replaced.the total cost was $1026.i consider needing a catalytic converter replaced at 82,000 miles to be unacceptable.i am aware of other honda owners who have had the same thing happen.i like having this item wear out to having a transmission or some other major component wear out.it has also been brought to my attention that the catalytic converter has an 80,000 warranty.how convenient!

Every timeengine is turned off very loud clanging and banging noises come from under the vehicle on the front driver's side.vehicle was taken to the dealership. Dealer stated that the noises came from the catalytic converter cooling down and contracting, which was a characteristic of the vehicle.please provide any further information.

While starting the vehicle, the check engine light came on and remained on while driving. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop, and the mechanic determinedthat the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced.

Exhaust manifold cracked for a 2nd time!had replaced at 74,000 miles, now at 129,000.dealer said the second was only covered under a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty.

Exhaust manifold crack leading to carbon monoxide being sucked through the ventilation system and inhaled by the occupants.this lead to headache and vomiting.

The contact owns a 2000 honda civic.the contact smelled fumes whenever the vehicle was driven.speed was not a factor.approximately three months later, the oxygen sensor failed and the contact discovered a crack in the exhaust manifold.the current mileage was 114,000 and failure mileage was 70,000. Updated 09/10/08updated 09/17/08.

In february 2004, i noticed a smell of exhaust fumes in the interior of the car.brought it to a mechanic 3 times.he said he didn't smell it, and could find nothing wrong with the car.i recently brought the car in to a new mechanic for servicing, and he informed me that the "exhaust manifold is cracked."i've been suffering some unexplained health problems, such as headaches, light headiness, and fatigue, and now wonder if the symptoms are related to long term exposure to the exhaust fumes.the mechanic suggested i contact the honda dealer to request that they fix the problem at no cost.however, the dealer informed me that the part(s) is only covered up to 80,000 mi.my vehicle currently has 82,000 mi. On it.as it is an expensive repair, it has not yet been fixed.

Intake manifold cracked and fumes came into the vehicle. Contacted honda. Itstated there were no problems with the vehicle. ....alsi replaced spark plugs, and replaced a cracked exhaust manifold.

Exhaust manifold cracks, causing hot exhaust gases and possible unburned fuel to leak.

Exhaust manifold cracked leaking.

Main problem is with the engine light coming on periodically and suspension noise in front and back.i have repeatedly taken the care into honda and they go through a multiple step process of denial and attempts to run out my warranty.

The antenna does not slide down into the vehicle as stated at the honda dealership, due to this problem the antenna broke off during car washing.

I have had a total of 5 cd players in stalled, still no working radio!i have also been shocked several times and my car was pulling to the right 2 days after purchase when taken back to the dealer they said it was just a light weight car!

The lcd display in the cd radio is unreadable under most all lighting conditions, button labels are so small they can't be read.this creates a signifigant potentential hazard in operating it.since it is a part of the vehicle, it seems it is an issue for your organization vs a consumer electronics issue, but it is somewhat both.factory oem radios have much better display, but are they required to, but aftermarket seem to have no standards and i think they should. Do they.the unit i have is a clarion model rdb365d.

The contact owns a 2000 honda civic. The contact stated that the low beam headlights were malfunctioning. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised that the switch and coupler were defective as a result of heat damage and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 165,000.

The passenger side low beams on the car do not work even though the high beams will work. It seems somewhat similar to what happens to the 2001 & 2002 honda civics. The fueses in the car seem to work fine and even when a new bulb is installed the low beams only work for a couple of days before the low beams stop working.

Uneven headlights at nighttime, the right shines out farther than left, it becomes totally dark on the drivers side at the double yellow line on a single lane highway, when you turn on the bright lights there is four shades of bright light when traffic is coming the opposite way. The car is still under warranty, why does the hagerstown honda refuse to replace entire assembly. What are my rights to getting this fixed????

Consumer received nhtsarecall 04v086000concerning low beam lighting.consumer contacted the dealer to schedule an appointment for a saturdaybut the dealer informed the consumer that recall repairs were not performed on saturdays.the consumer finally had the repair made on that saturday.

While driving the car on the evening of feb 11, 2005, we (wife and i) smelled a burning smell, we thought it was coming from outside the vehicle,so we started closing the sunroof and windows when i noticed smoke coming from the steering column.i looked in the hole where the stick for the headlights/turn signal was and saw flames.we quickly pulled into a convienence store and while i tried blowing it out (i had nothing else available to do and it was still small enough i thought it was possible), my wife ran in and got a fire extinguisher which put out the fire.we had the car towed home where i dismantled the steering column and dash.the headlight assembly had burned and melted.i've already cleaned out the extinguisher residue and replaced the part but the original part is still available if needed.honda wanted me to bring them the car at my expense (it wasn't drivable) and wanted my insurance to pay for a rental/repairs, which i thought was really poor handling of the situation expecially since there were flames involved.this car was also completely unmodified and even has the original radio still installed.

The car is either difficult to start or starts and dies when the level in the fuel tank is near or below the 1/4 tank mark. This problem is prevalent in the 1999 and 2000 civics, and honda is aware of it. They claim to have a service bulletin on the problem, but i could not find it on your website. Honda refuses to fix it.this is a security issue for me. I purchased this car for my daughter, so that she would have reliable transportation. She is in law school, and has to spend a great deal of time in the library, late at night. She parks in the parking decks and by the time she leaves, hers is one of the few cars left. It concerns me that she might be pursued by someone, reach her car ahead of him, and then the car fails. With the population of civics out there with young people driving, it is possible that this has already happened to someone. We have a right to expect that our kids are safe when we go to the expense of buying them a new car. I believe that many parents pay the extra money required to buy a honda, because of the supposed quality of the vehicles. We shouldn't have to worry that their cars won't start when they are in danger.

I bought my 2000 honda civic used from a dealer in april of 2003. After about 2 months of having the car, i have noticed that when the gas tank is about a 1/4 (quarter) of a tank and/or below the car stalls (hard to start) when trying to start the engine.this happens during all seasons. This is my first car and i am not sure of what to do. I have an appointment with the dealer to inspect the car and i am hoping that something can be done about this problem. I am a young woman, and it's often scary at times when i am getting into my car at night and it does this.

While driving at both city and highway conditions car will lose all power and shut down and coast to a stop..will start up again after 5 to10 efforts to start.this is interrmittent problem.you cannot predict when it will happen or how often it will occur.

Iam a unsuspecting consumer that bought a vehicle that was for sale without disclosure of the true condition including brand history.i purchase an unsafe car for my daughterand the second day the brake fail and the steering wheel stiffness.my daughter took it for a oil change my mechanic said it have a lot of problems oil leak, axle damage, suspension noise.i took it to have the muffler check my mechanic said the muffler had a rotten pipe and two donut gasket that need to replaced which i did.the code present p1259 - vtec solenoid and oxygen sensor.i requested the car fax and it said that it had three minor accidents, three owners, mileage inconsistency.my daughter said while driving the car the speed odometer only goes to sixty miles when speed up and it will not go any further. I never saw a title, sign a transfer form, or go down with him to the court house to get the sticker and transfer paper work. My daughter had to jump out of the car while parking the car.it started smoking like it was on fire.i informed [xxx]that the car was a junk and i wanted my money back.it has been thirteen days since i purchase the car and i have not got my money back.he made sure that the address where he is located was written wrong, the name of his business was incorrect, the vin no. Was written incorrect, the odometer at the time of purchase was not documented on the buyers owner invoice.i purchase this car at a exxon gas station.i sent him a demand letter and i have not gotten any response. The car is parked infront of my home and my daughter cannot drive the car. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Cracking of the exhaust manifold at less than 140,000 miles

Recently i was in a near head-on collision with my 2000 honda civic ex and i have a concern with how the civic reacted during the collision. I would first like you provide the circumstances of the accident. I was struck by an oncoming truck as i began a left-hand turn. I had completely stopped before i was hit. The driver stated he was doing 45mph, and he was driving a 1997 toyota tacoma. The damage to the civic was completely to the front engine compartment, and both airbags did deploy. My safety concern is that the latched back seat section behind the driver seat (the back seat folds down, in 2 sections, to create more room with the trunk) became unlatched when the car was hit and fell completely forward. Isnt this where infants and children are to be put? how would this have affected an infant or child if they had been in the car?

The rear passenger side door will not unlock manually or with the keyless remote.the local mechanic replaced the door latch and the actuator assembly.after the repairs were done, therear driver's side door failed to unlock.the vehicle will be taken back to the local mechanic for repairs.when the electrical components failed, the doors could not be manually unlocked. *scc

-the contact stated that the door locks for the 2000 honda civic couldbe opened byusing any key. The dealership informed contact the door locks on the vehicle were no longer being used, and the new lock system that was being used couldnot be installed on thisvehicle. The police dept informed the contact the locks on thedoors could be openedby using any key. The contact stated the dealership has not inspected the vehicle. The vehicle currently had 55000 miles.

Torque converter clutch circuit/open.

While driving i smelled then saw smoke coming out of the gear shift area. I pulled over, turned off and exited my car. I opened the hood and within minutes my car was engulfed in flames. The fire department had to come put it out.

There are many more problems with this car. This is my first car i have ever bought new and i am so upset that honda is doing very little to help me. No safety defect mentione din summary.

The car would no accelerate when the gas pedal was depressed. Dealer claimed normal wear and tear and manufacturer had no prior complaints. An expensive pcv valve was replaced.

While driving vehicle lauches into neutral or stalls out. Took vehicle to dealership, they informedconsumer that transmission had gone bad.

Consumer stated when vehicle is in reverse, there is aloud howling noise, vehicle was taken into dealership, and consumer was informed that when in reverse vehicle is abnormally noisy, but will not fix it because it is not broken.*jg

When the vehicle stopped at a light or stop sign and then took off there was severe hesitation, andvehicle shuddered.after this happened several timesconsumer took the vehicle to the dealer.transmission was flushed three times, and vehicle was given back to the consumer.this vehiclehad three transmissions replaced, and two transmissions overhauled.

2000 honda civic lx automatic transmission failure.the transmission started to shift hard on my 2000 honda civic lx which has 73,000 miles on it.then the gears started slipping and delaying, so i took it in to have it looked at (local transmission shop).the transmission is failing and has to be replaced.we just had the transmission replaced in our other honda (1997 honda accord with 150,000 miles) last week, and this problem was a huge shock to us.we are replacing two honda transmissions within a two week period!!!i think that it is ridiculous that a 2000 honda civic with less than 73,500 miles on it has to be replaced.transmission failure is a serious safety hazard.our other honda transmission went out while we were on the interstate, and we were almost hit by another car because our car slowed down so rapidly.for now, the 2000 honda civic lx will be sitting in the driveway until we have saved up for another transmission replacement.

Vehicle stalls out or launches into neutralwhile driving due to transmission operating poorly.

I have a 2000 honda civic dx. My transmission gave me no warning it was about to go out. I bought it brand new with only 10 miles on it. It now has 116,000 miles on it. I kept up with the maintenance. While i was driving on top of a bridge the check engine light came on. Then about 5 miles down the road i stopped at a red light. When it turned green my transmission started slipping. I coasted to the entrance of a gas station. I was blocking traffic. I turned the car off. I waited 2 minutes turned the car back on. It went for about a mile then it started slipping again. I had it towed home. It's been parked ever since. I been having to find a ride to work and to do errands. I been told that it is out of warranty. That the costs would be over $2500.

Hesitating before transmission goes into gear while stopping and going. Also, transmission loses power while driving at ighhawy speed and catches itself intermittently. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on three occasions. Informed that nothing couldbe found.please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Vehicle launch into neutral or stalls out when driving due to transmission going badly.

Transmission shifts hard and at incorrect times.

While driving vehicle will launch into neutral or stall out. Took vehicle to dealership, who informed him transmission had gone bad.

At 50mph and with no warning transmission will automatically switch to lower gear. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.the transmission would not disengage out of gear when the consumer stops pushing the gas pedal. The engine makes a knocking noise while warming.

Vehicle either stalls out or launches into neutral due to transmission going badly.

My 2000 honda civic was recently repaired due to a minor fender bender with a curb. The transmission was replaced as part of these repairs with a transmission from a salvage yard. While driving this vehicle, the check engine light came on and after a diagnostics test, the code p0240 continued to show up after being reset numerous times. This light turns on about three miles of driving after being reset. After researching this code and the handful of causes of it to appear, it is possible that some vehicles will not even be running due to it. The transmission is not shifting correctly around 50-60mph with just a delayed shift. The research i have done shows this code may be removed by changing the tcc solenoid, transmission and oil filter, but in most cases; replacing the transmission.

While driving vehicle stalls out or launches into neutral due to transmission going badly.

*jg

While driving vehicle will stall out or go into neutral due to transmission going bad.

Honda civic 2000 with 58,000 miles with transmission failure. Honda refuses to fix because my daughter bought the car used - not original owner. Daughter bought the car on sunday night - rush job. Daughter told salesman during test drive something wrong. Salemans said they would take care of it - wrong. Anyway - defective transmission on honda car at 58,000 miles. Why?

Consumer states that while parking vehicle the gear shift broke apart in hand while placing car in park.the screws came out from the base of the gear shift assembly. Ts

I have a 2000 civic value package with and automatic transmission.recently the gear shifter became very hard to use.it was very hard to get the vehicle into and out of park.the rest of gear ranges worked normally.one time i had to use two hands to get the car out of park.took the car to the dealership and was advised that the shift cable was worn out and needed to be replaced.the cable was replaced and it now works normally.total cost about $250 labor and $50 for parts.

Vehicle was driven and parked on sloped driveway in 1st gear with parking brake engaged fully and engine off. Driver walked into house came back 5-10 minutes later.vehicle had rolled down hill and hit transformer. When vehicle was opened parking brake was fully engaged but was not in 1st gear but neutral. We tried to recreate this event. There was no way driver could have left the vehicle if brake was not fully engaged due to steepness of the driveway. If brake was not fully engaged, vehicle would roll very fast down driveway.note same failure reported on a 1999 civic at your oid id #720978.

While vehicle was parked with engine running and emergency brake appliedvehicle unexpectedly jumed out of park and went into drive, cause unknown.*et

While driving could try to shift from first gear to second gear andtransmission won't shift.consumer will step onclutch a couple timess or pumpclutch.

Noise from transmission area. Noise when gas pedal is released, in gears 5,4,3, and maybe 2 &1 but rpm's too high to hear. Happens only in gear and only when the clutch is engaged. Local dealer, stevens creek honda have replaced throw-out bearing & gear bearings with no relief.

The vehicle was involved in a frontal collision, the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to restrain the consumer.

Seat belt will sometimes release on its own driver side.

I have a 2000 honda civic ex and the driver's side seat belt sometimes releases on its own. This happens unpredictably and i have noticed it multiple times in the last few years. Once it releases i push it back in harder and it seems to work. I noticed a similar complaint and so i brought it to your attention.

The contact owns a 2000 honda civic. The contact stated that the driver side seat belt failed to retract and the srs warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the seat belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the vin not being able to be recognized. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that due to the vehicle being manufactured in canada, they were not obligated to repair the vehicle. The canadian manufacturer stated that due to the vehicle being registered in the u.s., they were not obligated to repair the vehicle. The failure mileage was 146,022.

Consumer was driving 35 mph when vehicle slid on ice, andhit a tree. Seat belt did not work, consumer hit her head on dash, sustaining head injury.damage to vehiclewas $7000.

Front seat belts are difficult to fasten and do not fasten securely when inserted, resulting in the seat belt popping out with movement.this happens with every use.

*sc

Driver's seat belt retractor does not work. Seatbelt was replaced once under warranty, at this time seatbelt will not retract.

Lumps formed inthe cushion of driver's seat.mrthe consumer had to use a pad when driving.

One month after the vehicle was purchased, there was a lump in the middle of the driver's seat. . consumer discovered there was a wire bar in the seat.

Brakes need replacing approximately every year after 12000 to 15000 miles.

Brake failure on a honda civic 2000 with under 11, 000 miles causing car to hit several other cars in a parking lot. Cause of the brake failure was determned to be failure of the seal surrounding piston on the master brake cylinder.

Dt*: the contact stated brake fluid leaked causing the brakes to fail, and nearly causing an accident.the non service dealer determined the brake cylinder needed to be replaced to resolve the issue.

Dt: front brakes started grinding at about 70,000 miles. The consumerpurchased new brake parts for front and rear brakes, assuming that if the front brakes were worn out it would make sense to replace the rear at the same time. The front brake pads were completely worn out to the metal backing. Upon removing the rear brake shoes and comparing them to the newly purchased shoes there was no noticeable wear. In effect, the car was only using the front brakes. Owned this vehicle since it was new and have been involved in two front end collisions where the front brakes locked, making it harder to maneuver and causingit to crashinto the vehicle ahead, even when trying to steer around to avoid a collision. Updated 7/13/2006 - the consumer was told that the brake wear was normal.

When the consumer put his foot on the brake to put the gear in drive or reverse the brake did not hold effectively, consumer discovered the brake had to be pumped several times in order to get normal braking power, the master cylinder was replaced, however the problem still existed.

While driving about 55 mph and applyingbrakes to reduce speed, rear ended another vehicle.but, none of the air bags deployed.

16 year old daughter hit a bridge with the front driver side, totalled car, airbags did not deploy and brakes failed.photos available.

From the first day i drove the civic home there has always been a severe vibration coming from the abs everytime i hit a bump or pothole-i usually feel these vibration at low speeds as when i am driving out of my bumping driveway, the vibration is really severe when i am apply the brakes to not hit a bump or pothole too hard. I really didnt give it much thought (figured i was just needing to get used to new technology) until while driving at slow speed (25 or less) on an icy city of tulsa , ok, evertime i applied the brakes gently to come to a stop at a stop light the front brakes vibrated violently & locked up preventing me from coming to a safe stop. Once the brakes locked the civic immediately went into a slide & only stopped when it's momentum slowed down. The brakes were absolutely useless in stopping the vehicle by gently slowing it down as has been normal with every other vehicle i have ever owned. I was so afraid of the brakes that i tested them on the bumping gravel road just before i got home that afternoon and sure enough they locked up again under more pressure than needed under normal braking conditions. I discussed this problem with don carlton honda's service supervisor today (02/16/01) when i took the car in for it's oil change. I was told that this is the way honda's abs operates and the brakes are designed for dry weather & smooth road conditions and if the brakes ever sense slipping or rough conditions they will "always" lock up because of their design and that there is nothing to be fixed or that can be done by honda to correct the problem. I find this explanation "absurd" and "ridiculous" -how could brakes this dangerous be considered normal. The only reason i didn't plow into someone that icy day is because luckily for anyone else & me there was no car or person in front of me when i tried to stop on the icy city street. Please help me if you can-i am now scared to drive this car.

While driving 65mphapplied brakes to slow down, releasedbrakes, and applied brakes again. But,had no brakes, and rear ended anothervehicle in front. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy. No injuries.

Abs light came on. Taken to dealer. Currently, abs light on again, and a rubber like smell in vehicle. Please add additional information.

I have a 2000 honda civic ex.from the first day of ownership, the car's antiskid brakes sometimes kick in when not needed.for example, riding over bumps such as a railroad sometimes sets the antiskid off and it continues for some time after the railroad has passed, thus unnecessarily increasing stopping distance.sometimes just on plain road it does the same.it seems to occur more in cold weather.we have a 2000 accord and it doesn't act this way.i have driven many other honda's and none ever acted this way.i am afraid this major safety defect may someday lead to a very serious accident.i have complained long and hard to honda corporation, but they insist the described problem is impossible to occur.they maintain that the brakes are a 'black box', and either work perfect or not, all the time.they have looked at the car, and said since they claim they cannot duplicate the problem and since it can't possibly occur anyway in their opinion, i am out of luck.surely my honda is not the only car this ever occurred in.it is almost like something is loose, like a sensor or a right front suspension component(s). Please help before honda corporation kills someone.i have told honda that i personally hold them accountable for any accident.thanks.j ricky simmons

Customer states brake pedal goes to the floor in the morning when cold, after sitting for a long time and when going into reverse or drive.dealer checked multiple times and verified slight drop in pedal master cylinder bypassing internally.replaced brake master cylinder and bled system. However, the problem still exists.

I attempted to use my cruise control, and the car began accelerating on its own.i tried to press the brake and to manually turn off the cruise control, but the car would not slow down.pressing the brake as hard as possible would stop the acceleration, but would not decelerate.i called aaa who called the state police.they recommended pulling the emergency brake.after pulling that and keeping my foot as hard as possible on the brake, i got the car down to ~30mph and took the keys out of the iginition.subsequently the dealer states that they cannot reproduce the problem, but they have found significant damage to the rear brakes, the emergency brake, and to the wheels.i have spoken to the dealer and honda customer service and have been told that it will not be covered under warranty since they canot reproduce the problem.i do not feel that the car is safe to drive if this problem has not been identified and fixed.i am desperately looking for help in dealing with this issue.thank you!!

The rack and pinion developed a leak which caused a loud noise when turning the wheel, the vehicle has been at the dealer for 27 days but has not been repaired because the part is on back order, the consumer is requesting reimbursement.nlm

Back bumper it is loose and afraid of bumper faling out anytime.dealer was notified.ak

I bought a honda civic 2000 and the vehicle has a major flaw in its car seats. It produces high electricity shocks when you touch the doors (metal). I think this is a major defect and a potential lawsuit for honda if someone gets seriously injured in an explosion. This is an everyday issue and my family is even afraid to get in the car.

Power locks worked intermittently. As long as the key was in the ignition the doorsweren't supposed to lock. They flickered from unlocked to locked.consumer had to roll the windows down to get out ofvehicle.dealer said driver's side locking unit need to be replaced.problem still present after replacement. *ml

Trunk lid wouldfall intermittently, causing injury to consumer's head. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that they could not adjust it any more.please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

The rear sub-frame on my 2000 honda civic si has ripped on both sides.this is not just a problem i am having.i know of several other people having this very same problem.i do not race the car and all of the driving is done on road.aside from an aftermarket clutch the vehicle is stock, no suspension work at all.the car comes with a 13mm rear sway bar as stock equipment.when i began hearing about people having problems with the sub frame ripping i purchased reinforcement plates and installed them in an effort to reduce the stress placed on the sub-frame.this is a major problem!this is structural failure!as soon as i noticed the problem i took the car to a frame shop and had it repaired at a cost of $500.the technican who fixed the vehicle told me he hoped this wouldn't happen again but without a stronger sub frame he saw no reason that this wouldn't happen again.this obviously presents a serious safety issue.

Upon it's 90,000 service at the honda dealer, it was found thatthe front subframe is almost completely rusted through on the passenger side.the driver's side is also rusted but it's not as significant.photos are available.

To ask me what i would do if they told me it was a characteristic of the civic's since another new car on the lot drove the same way.i responded stating i saw nothing in the purchase contracts that warned me of a "steering characteristic" that i would have to put up with, nor did i know honda made their cars without the ability to have the caster or camber adjustments corrected.if i knew this car was going to handle as poorly on the freeway as it does, i wouldn't have purchased it.the specifications in the owners manual cannot possibly be met due to the lack of foresight by honda.i have a copy of the alignment settings before the first alignment was initiated as well as the results of the first alignment, which are unacceptable based on the unstable, unpredictable steering and handling characteristics exhibited by this "new" car.if honda can not fix this car correctly so as not to shorten the life of the tires or put undue stress on the front suspension, rear suspension, and related wheel bearings, then they can just take this car back and reimburse me for my purchase.i have already wasted 3 hours buying this car and over 5 hours in the service department dealing with the current problem. *

Two weeks after purchase of car, i noticed that the left front tire had developed a bubble.firestone dealer replaced tire at no charge and told me that the tread had separated.i am now reporting this in light of the other firestone recalls and problems, though i do not know if they are related. We had four aquatred iii tires placed on the vehicle on march 28th.my wife and i couldnt pick up the car on the 28th, so we drove to mueller tire & brake store on the morning of march 29th.the phone number of the westlake store is: [xxx].the address is 25409 detroit road, westlake, oh, 44145.after picking up the car at 9:17:54 a.m. (on the invoice), i was driving to work.i drove about 5 miles on i-90 eastbound towards downtown cleveland.i was driving about 60 to 65 miles per hour.i had just turned on my radio when i noticed that the tire noise seemed to be increasing.i turned off the radio, and started moving towards the right hand land.the tire noise continued to increase.i was hoping it was a precautionary measure, but i decided to get ready to pull off on the west 117th exit (exit number 166).my hopes of precaution disappeared when i started smelling burning rubber.i then looked in my drivers side rearview mirror and noticed that my left rear tire was belching smoke.the rear of the car started to shake.i pulled off a little ways onto the exit ramp.i then got out to see if i could possibly drive the car to a service station, but the tire was completely destroyed.the tread was ok, but the inner and outer sidewalls were completely shredded.im not quite sure how i was able to get the car off the highway. 1 sidewall blowout, 1tread blowout within 3 weeks. (dot number: w27jmnbtiresize: p185/65r14)

Tire blew with tremendous force while driving on freeway, causing the cv boot to break, firestone dealer examined the tire and stated it was due to road hazard, consumer stated there us a tiny hole that could be a nail hole, but is doubtful that is what caused the tire blow out,(firestone tires- tire size p185/r14.

Just after merging onto the highway and reaching full speed, ahumming noise was heard without any noticeable vibration.within a few seconds, while slowing to allow traffic to clear, the driver's side rear tire failed.i heard a loud exposion and saw rubber fragments over my left shoulder.luckily, i was able to control the vehicle and quickly pull off the highway.upon inspection, only the outer edge of the tire remained on the rim.the entire tread portion of the tire was gone.all four tires had adequate pressure, were rotated at 7500 miles by henrick honda, and were original equipment when the vehicle was purchased new late last year.i immediately contacted firestone and following their instructions to file a claim.recently, i received a letter from firestone denying my request for compensation, siting insufficient air pressure evidenced by the tattered sidewalls and melted inner liner.as i stated previously, these tires were not low on pressure and were kept in excellent condition.the severity of this failure coupled with firestone's unwillingness to provide any compensation is the reason i'm filing this complaint.i truly believe that if one of the front tires had failed, i would have suffered a serious or fatal injury. Speedometer will intermittently stop working and freeze at 20 mph. This could cause the driver to drive at excessive and unsafe speeds without being aware. Based on an internet search this appears to be a common problem, due to poor circuit board soldering, in civics over the years with same circuit board.

There are many more problems with this car. This is my first car i have ever bought new and i am so upset that honda is doing very little to help me. No safety defect mentione din summary.

Cracking of the exhaust manifold at less than 140,000 miles

Windshield wiper motor failed.i replace it and the mechancic told me there was a service bulletin out on this cause a lot of wipers were failing.if it had happened when it was raining, i could have been in an accident.the motor always made a clicking sound and the new one makes the same sound.i've been told these particular motors all make this sound but i don't know if that's related to the motor failure.

2000 honda civic exlug nuts and key get very hot after driving 10 miles or less. The consumer wasn't experiencing any problems until after she had some brake work done.the dealer told the consumer it was normal.

After an expensive repair to the front driver's side power window (replaced both channel/runner and regulator/motor), i now realize that this is a fairly common problem with newer hondas.i have checked the nhtsa website and have located several similar complaints.in addition, i know of several other honda owners who experienced the same problem and were forced to pay for the exact same repairs.i think that honda should reduce the cost of their parts for this repair and investigate the problem with their front driver-side power windows.

Driver's side window of 2000 honda civic vp windows regulator broken.window has been very difficult to wind up and down for 2 years.while searching for information on this i've discovered that it has been reported by several other people and also it's listed in the service bulletins.since i'm no longer under warranty, i felt obligated to at least log a complaint so others may see that there's an issue here.

There are many more problems with this car. This is my first car i have ever bought new and i am so upset that honda is doing very little to help me. No safety defect mentione din summary.
