My girlfriend was involvedin an accident where she rear ended a suv causing total front end damage to my vehicle. The problem i have is the airbags never deployed ,and my girlfriend had togo to the hospital for chest pain. The car is a 1999 honda civic lx 4dr.

I received a recall notice on my 1999 honda civic for the ignition switch in september 2002.i took the car to get a new switch installed.after that i did not see a positive change or faster start up of the car .in fact, it seemed to start slower and slower.when i would press the accelerator i felt a grinding sensation under my foot fromthe gas pedal, which soundedlike the car was struggling to speed up.also, when i would turn the key in the ignition the car would not start right away, it stalled for about (7) seven seconds or so.i believe this car is a lemon.when i bought it, the gears wouldn't change properly.i would press the accelerator to go up to spped on the highway and it would take a long time for the car to change gears, it sounded very loud because of this.i don't know why it did this,i am concerned and it became very annoying. I had an accident while driving this car on oct. 16, 2002.as i was driving i heard something crack under the car and the car started to spin to the other side of the road causing me to lose control of the car.i believe the car had a safety defect that caused the wheels to break, resulting in loss of control of the vehicle.the insurance adjuster told me these are some of the damages to the car:the bottom of the floor shifted, the axle broke, the tires and wheels broke, they declared the car a total loss.i believe the wheels/tires broke first, which is probably what the cracking sound was that i heard which caused the car swerve. My insurance companypaid the car off so fast which leads me to believe they are hiding something. Aslo, ithink the steering of the car was out of line, because sometimes the car would veer to the right when i would be driving straight it would be difficult to stay in the lanei would appreciate all the information you can give to help me find out what else is wrong with this car as i already said a recall for the ignition was issued more defects may be found.dt

While traveling through a parking lot, a lamp post was hit on the driver side quarer panel above the tire. The speed traveled was 5 mph and the airbags went off. There are numerous problems complaints of airbags not going off in frontal collisions, but a side impact at 5 mph caused the airbag to go off, which in turn also twisted the dash board and broke the front windshield. The actual crash itself caused less then $500 of damage, it is the airbag, windshield, and dash board that caused all of the damage.

I was traveling about 25 mph and was hit head-on by a driver in a ford taurs traveling about 40 mph in the wrong lane.both air bags in the tarus deployed and mine, in the 1999 honda civic did not deploy.the impact of the crash has caused injuries to my chest from the seatbeltwhich probably could be expected, and saved my life; and injuries to my neck and back from the forward thrust caused by the head -on impact. But, the air bags should have deployed in the honda.it is unreasonable to think they would not deploy based on the degree of the impact .the honda body shop manager said the other car hit the honda above the frame rails, which is why they did not deploy.if that is the case, the air bags will not deploy in most crashes that this vehicle is involved in. This is a vehicle design defect.i have digital pictures of the damaged honda .sincerely, [xxx], csp.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On 7/27/13, my son was driving and stopped at a traffic light.prior to driving everything seemed fine.when he pulled off from the traffic light and the car got to about 25 mph the engine line flashed and the car suddenly stopped.he was able to pull off to the side into a parking lot, popped the hood and take a quick look to see if anything was wrong.he couldn't see anything and of course he's not a mechanic.he tried starting the car and it started right up.the car worked fine for a week and then on 8/5/13 he left work to quickly get lunch and while waiting at a traffic light the car died after the engine light flashed on and off.he waited a few seconds and tried restarting the car and it started without any problems.he took the car to 2 different mechanics and autozone and they couldn't find any issues with the car because the computer didn't identify a problem/error. Then he took it to firestone and they told he and my husband it was an ignition switch problem ($350.00).he found out that this was a recall issue.i'm the 2nd owner of the car and i'm uncertain if this problem was ever fixed.how can i find out if this is reimbursable if it wasn't fixed in the recall.i notice a number of the more recent complaints on your site are cars with the same issue that were not included in the recall but clearly have this problem. What can be done about this???

Car stalls unexpectedly.this happened twice, luckily on local streets and at very slow speeds.both times car restarted easily. Honda had replaced the ignition switch on recall back in 2003 by the original owner--i'm the second owner-- but now with over 200,000 miles the problem seems to have returned.called american honda and they suggested i have the problem diagnosed at a honda service center at my expense. $110 cost. If the ignition switch is proven defective, they will reimburse all expenses but only after approval from american honda for a second replacement. Decided to have my own mechanic fix the problem and then send the bill to honda with documentation.to be continued...

Air condition unit stop working the smell of smoke.

My son was driving home and the car shut off all of the sudden? he noticed the rpm gauge just dropping and he gave it some gas be rpm's continued down, he pulled into a business, stopped and opened hood to see or smell for any rubber, burnt , possibly if the timing belt was busted. My car has been stalling and losing power without any warning while driving, most often on the freeway. After several tries it starts back up. This creates a potentially very dangerous driving situation. Somehow, as with many other drivers i have researched and read about, my vin was not included in the 2002 recall for the ignition switch (faulty electrical component) including honda civics from 1999. No other repairs so far have fixed the problem. If this is indeed the problem, (the ignition switch) we very strongly feel (like many others) that it is the responsibility of honda to take care of the replacement.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. The contact stated that he started having problems with the vehicle failing to start. The contact stated they had to wiggle the key in the ignition in order to get the vehicle to start. In addition, the vehicle would stall at any time without warning. Since 2011 this car has been cutting out while driving. The speed could be anywhere from 30 mph on a street or 70 mph on the highway.this complete "powering off" has caused me near misses and accidents many times.since purchasing this car in 2007, i have had the distributor replaced 3 times; as we thought that was the reason for the failures. It was not.very recently (in the month of january) the car cut out so many times while driving and it became such a safety issue i brought it my mechanic and told him i could not drive anymore until the root cause was determined. First, they thought it needed a tune up. I had all the spark plugs, wires, etc replaced. The car still powered off while driving. Then, i had the distributor replaced again. The car still cut out. The mechanic then removed the starter and put a new one in and it solved the problem. Since then i've read online this has been a continuous problem with this model and i am going to pursue getting my money back for all the work done to the car this month. I kept the starter and the key if needed for evidence.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the distributor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer for diagnosis who stated that the ignition switch assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages was 150,000.

It began i think in february 2012 going down the highway. My 1999 honda civic turned off then back on which jerked the car. It did not do it again until weeks later. Then it would begin to actually turn off while driver without warning. But then again it would only do it a time or 2.... Then not for several weeks later (which by then i had forgotten about it). It did this on and off for the rest of 2012.... But would always start right back up.... Even putting it in neutral while moving and starting it..... Then putting it back in gear without hardly slowing down. But the last few months, especially in july (2013).... It began cutting off more often and would be harder to start. So i decided to have it checked and it was the ignition switch. I had it repaired because it was definitely becoming a hazard to myself and others. My car was not part of the recall in 2002 for the ignition switch (nhtsa # 02v120000). I see online there are many more instances of this part failing and would like to see my car added to the recall list and possibly reimbursed for the cost of repair.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed and the vehicle would not start. The dealer was notified and stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. Ignition switch is cuting off while drive the car, almost caused a accident looked up vin said not in the recall list for the honda civic ignition recall

I came to a stop at a light and the engine quit.when i tried to start it again, it lurched a little and quit again.when i tried to restart it,the engine would turn over but not start. The car was towed to a repair place. After a few days the mechanic got it running and i drove it home.when i tried to start it sometime later, it would not start, just like at the traffic light.it would rev up and then die.it did this a couple of timesand then started.when i turned it off and tried to start it again it would turn over but not start.it was towed to a different repair place where the mechanic diagnosed it as a bad ignition switch and told me there was a recall on this make and model honda. A check with the honda dealer revealed that there was no applicable recall on this vehicle; ie., a vehicle with the above vin.why not?? apparently, for some reason my 1999 honda civic lx was "missed" because the problem i am having has all the characteristics ofwhat is described in the recall.why was there a recall, my vehicle was omitted, and now some years later the problem rears its head and i have to pay to have it corrected.it fails to start randomly and if it quits while i am driving and i can't start it again, it is a safety situation since i lose my power brakes and power steering.

1999 honda civics should also be recalled for problems with the ignition keys.it is possible to remove the ignition key while the car is in the drive position.if a car is started with the ignition key it can then be removed and driven.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. In addition, the brake pedal required a longer stopping distance when depressed. The failure recurred intermittently.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic wherethe failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 02v120000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

While driving car shuts off. Able to restart, but after awhile. Somehow when i drive at night it doesn't shut off. When starting car i need to hold key in start position. If i let go it returns and dies out.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic.while driving various speeds, the vehicle would stall.occasionally, it would take at least four to five attempts to restart the vehicle.the vehicle loses complete power when the failure occurs.the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 02v120000 (electrical system:ignition:switch).the failure mileage was 73,929.

I was driving my 1999 honda civic lx and out of no where it stalled coming up to a stop sign. No warning lights on the dash came on. It also gave a little shake while holding onto the steering wheel.it took a few ignition turns before it started back up. This was the start of many to come stalling out or several attempts at starting the vehicle. This happens intermittently. It will start...it won't start...it stalled...it did not stall. The car had a mind of it's own. Now, we took it to repair shop and they couldn't get it to not start. It started everytime while at the shop. In order to do a diagnostic test on the vehicle it would need to not start. It is dangerous to drive this vehicle as a result of stalling out without any warning and at any speed where a crash is inevitable. I researched this vehicle afterwards to find any recalls on it. Sure enough there was. It had a faulty ignition switch which causes the above symptoms.....stalling out and trouble starting. I never got a letter or mail of any kind stating there is a recall on this car's ignition switch. Why? there also is one other recall on this car, a fuel tank thermal insulator. No notice on that recall. What do i need to do to get these faulty recalls done? before there is a crash as a result of this manufacturer faulty equipment..

Car shuts off while driving

The car ignition turned off suddenly while driving. I was able to come to a stop and restart the engine. My car already had the ignition switch replaced per the national recall. It looks like the replacements are not an improvement.

The car just shuts off at random times while at highway speeds and will immediately restart once stopped.the ignition switch was replaced under another recall in 2005 for this same issue.dealership refuses to repair again and wants to charge for diagnostics.the ignition switch is intermittent just as stated in the recall, same issues have not been repaired.

When driving @ various speeds in motion on major and minor roads it will just cut off and can be restarted . I took it too honda dealership and they said that my vin # wasn't in the recall . The rep told me that it did happen to other civics (ignitions in the same model year )but not mine . I told him if it is doing the same thing as the recall and my civic is within the recall dates . This is a safety issue and quite possible the recall should be broadened . This

About 3 weeks ago, i was driving home from work and made a right turn at a stop light and all of the sudden the car stopped. I nearly got hit, and i was able to coast to the side of the road. The car would not start again. I had it towed to the station across the street from where it died. They replaced the distributor cap and coil in it. This all cost me $710.then 4 days ago i was driving home on a local road by home and the car just quit on me again. I have someone looking at it and they thought it was the tps but that's not it. They can't figure out what's going on. I had the ignition switch replaced when the recall came out for that a few years ago.maybe that's the problem again?

Failed ignition switch caused car to stall(engine shut off).had to pull to side of road and attempt to restart vehicle.engine started after 3 attempts.for the next 3 weeks engine would randomly stall and all dash lights/cluster would lose power.**note: ignition switch recall was already completed for this vehicle in 2002.

A total ignition cutoff has been occurring on my 1999 honda civic ex. The car has 151k miles.it has cutoff on the fwy at 65mph.this is very dangerous i could have been rear ended, etc. Canada honda has a recall for 97 thru 2001 accords, civics, crvs to replace faulty electrical switch on the keylock.:usa honda is not doing this recall, why not? i would think that honda should replace those that experience this dangerous occurence. I visited a local honda dealer w this problem, the service writer stated that my vin was not on the recall list. All civics are built in canada and they all have the same type os electrical assy attached to the key assy. I would think that all these assys should be replaced .the assy costs about 48.00 and dealer wants 150.00 labor. This is a major safety issue, internet search of this problem has surfaced many customer complaints of this ignition cutoff due to bad electrical contacts in the switch.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle stalled without any warnings. The contact mentioned that she had to hold the key in the ignition switch in order to prevent the vehicle from stalling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 02v120000 (electrical system:ignition:switch). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 160,000 and the current mileage was 205,000.

Engine will stall without warning at idle, slow speeds, even high speeds on the highway, just checked my vin with honda.com and it was affected by the 1997-99 ignition switch recall.

Good afternoon,i have a 1999 honda civic lx, when i'm driving at the speed limit or idling at a stop sign, the engine just dies for no reason. You lose all power steering control and power brakes, etc. This too me is a major safety issue and could quite possibly get me (or my teens who drive it) rear ended or cause you to lose control, crash and be killed. I have confirmed (from honda) that my electrical ignition system is faulty and it is shutting off by itself due to a defective switch, cause; honda) there is too much power going through the switch. (i can actually remove my key while i'm driving.) there is a recall by honda on this switch which was posted in may 2002 for all honda civics from 1997 to 2001. All civics were built in canada at that time.1,000,000 were recalled. However, my car is not included in the recall( my vin # not in the recall, in canada it was all cars recalled). Honda repstell me they don't know why my car is not in the recall. I have the same exact symptoms as in the recall. In canada, they recalled and repaired every single car in that country. Why not my car? because it was sent into the usa?i'm filing a major safety complaint against honda usa and i want my car fixed by them. The cost is $ 153.00 for the switch and 195.00 for labor. I'm ready to elevate this complaint if necessary, news organizations, etc if you direct me to do this. I hope you can help me and all the people in the usa who own a honda civic for those years, have a bad switch but, their vin # isn't included in the recall.i hope nobody dies before this safety problem its fixed. Thanks in advance for your help!! you guys at the nhtsa are awesome!!have a great week!!

My 1999 honda civic dx kept shutting off several times while driving without warning. Died on the interstate, and subsequently, i was rearended. Was diagnosed with a faulty ignition switch which was recalled for my year, make and model but my batch supposedly wasn't one that was affected. They want $700 to repair the $80 recalled part and refuse to honor the already existing recall.

Vehicle stalls without notice, can't accelerate anymore when it happens, have to throw hazard lights on and pull over into emergency lane.if not in motion, car will just stall, and cars behind will rear end my vehicle if not paying attention.this is a huge safety concern, it can cause an accident.i brought this up to american honda, but, my vin does not qualify for the recall they had on the electrical ignition switch.they directed me to have nhtsa add my vin to the recall so that i may then qualify.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed by aaa to wrench on wheels of kent, washington where the vehicle was inspected. It was determined that the ignition switch overheated at random, which caused the relay to become faulty. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

Back in november 2014, i changed out my headlights.they seemed to be working fine until recent.last week my srs and my battery light would flicker on and off.my headlights then blew out. I replaced the bulbs and checked the fuses.less than one day later, my lights blew out again.i changed my battery and the alternator out within the last year.i am thinking that there must be a short in the wires somewhere, but not sure. I am sure this problem is going to cost several hundreds of dollars. There have been other issues in the past such as the radio having to be reset even though the battery was never disconnected.power locks are erratic as sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. The last couple of points are further examples of potential wiring issues. This writing is as of 02/16/2015.

Bad ignition switch will stall on highway and just starting where the key is 1,2,3 is start between 2 and 3well on 2it will notlight up the dash lights no power so i turn into a little bit from 2 to 3 and make contact then start and sometimes keeps running others stalls random for the past year or 2 now just does it all the time

Original ignition switch failure.vehicle stalls often while driving on highways and local roads.

Vehicle dies in traffic for no apparent reason. Starts right up. Went online to see what the problem could be and ran across information concerning a recall for 97 to 99 honda's. My car is exhibiting the same exact problem described in this recall. However when i enter the vin it comes across as not having this problem with the key switch. When the car dies in traffic it is not only the engine but all the electrical power as well. Could my vin just be an oversight and should be included in this recall?i bought this car new and it has been a great car but this issue is becoming a real safety issue.the car just recently started to do this and it does it at any speed and city or highway driving.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact pulled to the road side and was able to restart the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle took multiple attempts to start. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 02v120000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.updated 05/03/16*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle was repaired at a local mechanic.

Vehicle is stalling while driving without any warning or indication. It may start again or may not. May not restart for twenty times or more, or less. The one variable that remains the same is that it will stall at some point when driving this vehicle. A crash is very likely. There was a recall on this car for faulty ignition switch that could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. May 16, 2002 campaign number: 02v120000 . Honda would not honor recall because it was a closed recall, but will open ifvin # shows it is one of the cars that was recalled. The car shows up with the recall with many complaints on ignition switch. More on the stalling, it would stall on any road, street, or highway in motion. Every stall was in motion. If starting the vehicle up from a stopped position it may or may not start the first time or twenty times later. Started in 2014. Honda wouldn't fix it. Next two years sat in parking space. 2017 started to drive it after new battery, new radiator+thermostat. Car still stalls in motion. 03/30/2017 took car to honda for recall. Said car vin # did not show recall on it that the recall was closed on the ignition switch. I need to know what my options are. I only drive on roads that have 30mph limits and i don't let my kids drive it. I don't want to cause a death or injury to anyone who may crash into my car.

1999 honda civic.consumer writes in regards to ignition recall repair issues.the consumer stated the vehicle stalled in the midst of driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. However, they stated vin was not i included in the recall.

The car engine stalls while driving soon after starting. It will happen typically while the car starts hot, either if the weather is hot or if the car was already warm from driving. The engine will also fail to stay started unless i turn the starter engine over a few times extra. I believe this is a result of the faulty ignition switch which was recalled for similar vehicle models.

Vehicle stopped running on four occasions while driving. The car suddenly stalled and would restart after pulling over. Acts like a failed ignition switch which is recalled for this year and model but does not cover my particular vin. I believe the recall should be expanded.

Car shuts off while driving. Can happen at anytime, while stationary or in motion. Issue is a faulty ignition switch. Has to stop to restart and loss of power steering. Same issue as nhtsa campaign number: 02v120000, but many vin's not included. Filing complaint for expanding issue beyond original scope under 02v120000.

Vehicle has stalled once while idling and twice while driving - once on a city street and once at highway speed. On the highway, the car initially hesitated and then i felt a 'thunk' in the drivetrain {as if the engine restarted with a surge}, all of the dash lights flashed at least 3 times accompanied by a relay clicking with each on / off cycle. The speedometer gyrated about my actual speed ~5 mph below and then above before the engine completely died and i coasted to a stop. After turning the ignition off, the car restarted immediately as if nothing had happened, and i was able to resume driving normally. Although the ignition recall has been completed for this car, i am suspecting the problem could be the same issue the recall was supposed to prevent. The ignition coil, distributor and rotor, and wires were all recently replaced and a tune-up performed at the honda dealer. No check-engine faults were captured during any of the stalling events that would have caused the check-engine light to come on.

The car is still stalling out.the latest today, when pulling into parking space at home, it stalled. No warning, no lights, no sounds....just stalled. What do you think would happen if it happened on the interstate at fast speeds or in high traffic areas where you might ram into the back of my car, without warning, just stopped in front of you with no warning. Maybe even in a turning lane, cars coming at me, right/left/front/behind. I am scared to death my luck is going to run out and someone or some people are going to get hurt and lose their lives because honda can't fix this problem with the ignition switch. They can, but won't!!! they, honda, isrisking lives in order to save some money, not lives, money. It could be you behind me the next time it happens and it will happen again. Please help get this fix. I wanna save lives not end lives!!!!!!!!!! this has been a problem for about 2months now.

There is a recall out right now for my ignition switch but when i call honda, they said there is no recalls for my vehicle. I am currently experiencing the symptoms of the recall but they refused to help me or dont believe me. I am not comfortable driving this vehicle right now because it shuts off while driving and i have no steering at all. This is my daily commuter. Please help.

The vehicle stalled intermittently while driving, regardless of speed (the engine, power steering, and dash lights would cut out unexpectedly). I indicated to honda that i believed it could be an ignition switch failure that was covered under a 2002 safety bulletin. They indicated that my vehicle was not covered. My local mechanic fixed the issue that was in fact a faulty ignition switch. Honda refused to issue reimbursement for the failed part.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. After restarting, the vehicle resumed normally. The failure recurred numerous times and became progressively worse. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic discovered there was a recall however, the vin was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 02v120000 (electrical system). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage and vin were not available.

My 1999 honda civic caught on fire november 11it was 11:45 pmmy car was parked within 6 feet of my housemy dog alerted me by barking and going crazyi was asleepso got up and went to the bathroom, and noticed a bright flickering light went outside to see what was causing this and saw my car on fire: drivers side. It looked to me the fire was right above the tire, and also the fire dept. Confirmed that don't know if it was the tire, or electrical systemi owned the car for approximately 6 monthsi had no insurance so was out $4,000.

I notice the passenger right front window was not functioning properly.the window would go up and down slowly.the honda mechanic diagnosis reported the window regulator needed replacing. Two months later the driver left front window would go up and down slowly.last week the window would not go up on its own and i had someone help pull the window up.i know its the regulator.i want to know if any car owners who own a 1999 4 sedan honda civic are experiencing the same problem.i've own two cars previously and never experience the regulator shortning out after 4 years.i don't know if anything can be done at this stage since the car is no longer under warranty but i want a record of this particular problem i've experienced with my car.

I also have problems with my window regulator on my 1999 honda civic ex sedan.my car was only 4 years old when the driver side window went out while rolling it down and stuck halfway. After taking the door panel off and looking at it, the plastic holding the wires in it had split and the wires were rubbing causing them to fray.my husband switched that regulator over to the passenger side door and the passenger over to the driver so that i could at least use my driver side window.about a year later that window did the same thing.now i am stuck with two front windows that will not roll down.i called the dealer to see how much it would cost to fix them and they said you have to replace the motor and everything even though there is nothing wrong with the motor.it will cost $265 to replace when you include labor.

The horn is not convenient in an emergency.

-the contact stated that her 1999 honda civic dx electrical ignition switch loses power at least twice a day while driving.she returned to the dealer to have the vehicle repaired.she has returned several times for several issues including the ignition switch and now they will not repair it. The vehicle was not working properly when purchased.

My car simply shuts off.it sometimes cranks right back up and other times it remains off.the car turns off as if the key was turned off.no crash occurred.i had the car looked at by a honda dealer.they informed me that it was an ignition switch issue.i found a recall related to the issue for 1999 honda civics.however honda refused to replace mine.

The dealer was contacted, but not repair the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the failure mileage was 76,500 and the current mileage was 79,100.

At 3:30 p.m. On 1/19/99 my daughter stopped at a friends house and parked the 99 honda civic ex just outside her friend's garage. She left the sunroof open slightly and removed the ignition keys.at 4:15 p.m when she came out to get into the car to leave, she noticed smoke coming out of the sunroof and could not see inside the windows.her friend called 911. However the car was totally engulfed in flames by the time the fire truck arrived. The car was a total loss and property damage included the vinyl siding that melted & buckled on the side of the garage. It's a sheer miracle that no one was hurt and no more damage was done.had it occurred in the middle of the night when the car was parked in the garage, the house would have caught on fire.my husband contacted the piedmont honda dealership 1/19/99 around 9:30 a.m. However they were not interested in the fact that our honda caught on fire for what has to be an electrical defect of some sort.

Failure of electrical system to alert of engine problems, so no oil or engine light went off.the engine wasn't getting any oil to it,and of course this also involves a malfunctionof the "oil pump".

1999 honda civic ex with intermittent stalling.the car will just cut off while you are driving.it does this everyday and will cut off while stopped at a traffic light, backing up or driving.there is no rhyme or reason to why it is doing.there was a recall on a faulty ignition switch but i have been told it did not include this vin #.there are actually two recalls....on is tsb#02-031 and 9910.the last one my husband found on the internet and it only said honda civic 1999 and did not give a specific model.i really need help with this.

When i drive the car the check engine light comes on. And requires maintence to the vehicle. Just wanted to know if my car is under recalls at all. Thanks sometimes my transmissions slips.

Engine periodically stalls without warning while driving. After a few minutes, engine re-starts, but may then stall again. It has happened all times of day [morning, afternoon, etc] and at various speeds [ under 20 mph, at 60mph] . This is now happening with increasing frequency. Was initially once every few months, and is now every few days.

While i was driving the vehicle, the engine just quits. There is no stuttering.it suddenly just quits. The radio, heater fan, brake lights were still working. When the key is turned to 'start', the engine starts but as soon as you released the key to spring back to the 'run' position, the engine would quit.i just got this vehicle from my friend and i am the 3rd owner.she told me the car was not in a good condition but didn't give me a detail.the symptom has been there and i changed several parts but never been solved.

The car engine stalls while driving soon after starting. It will happen typically while the car starts hot, either if the weather is hot or if the car was already warm from driving. The engine will also fail to stay started unless i turn the starter engine over a few times extra. I believe this is a result of the faulty ignition switch which was recalled for similar vehicle models.

Air condition unit stop working the smell of smoke.

When it is cold out my 1999 honda civic jitters when it idles. It's like it was going to stall. That can be dangerous in traffic

The engine randomly stalls when i'm driving on the street. It stalls when it's cruising, or when it's on idle and takes at least minimum of 5 minutes to restart.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. While driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle as it resumed normal operation. The failure recurred sporadically on several occasions while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but he was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact replaced the alternator and battery himself but the failure continued to recur intermittently. The dealer advised there was not a recall on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 170,000.

On 4/12/06 at 153,000 miles my check engine light came on while i was driving.my husband took my vehicle to an automotive shop and was told that the o2 sensor had gone out.my husband paid $300+ to have the o2 sensor replaced. Upon further review, the mechanic informed us that there was a crack in the manifold and that it would cost about $1000 to correct the problem.the mechanic stated that this is a recurring problem they see will hondas.the mechanic stated that when he called a local honda dealership to get a price on the parts required to fix the problem and the lady who answered the phone finished his sentence.apparently they have had other customers bring their vehicles in for the repair of this same problem.this appears to be a defect in the vehicle and should be corrected by honda as $1000 is a lot to pay for something that honda should fix.

Vehicle exhibits a noticeable knocking noise when first started until it sufficiently warms up.usually about 5 minutes.

The engine mount was broke.

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and with no warningvehicle will shut off causing consumer to pull over, and it will be hard to get the vehicle back started.dealer notified.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic lx. While driving 70 mph or making a turn, the vehicle suddenly stalled. Sometimes it would restart right away and other times, it would take a minute or two before it would restart. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who could not determine the cause of failure. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that there were no related recalls and to take her vehicle back to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.upatded 3/9/11 updated 06/24/11

Engine is making a loud knocking sound. Took to dealer to dealer 10 times, cannot remedy situation.

Car stalls whenever i slow down to stop at interections, stoplights, stopsigns.it will restart immediately, but at the next stop, will fail again.

While driving could hear a knocking noise on engine, especially when warming up.consumer had taken vehicle to dealer, but no improvements ofproblem.the engine knockgoes away in about 5 minutes after start up.the consumer feels that the engine was defective.

The vehicle vibrates when idling.

Engine knock while engine is cold, honda confirms this is normal operation of a gas engine( per honda news letter. Car has been maintained to schedule maintance, oil changes etc. I feel this is a defect in the motor , which if i had knew before hand i would have never purchased this vechile due to this under rated problem .

The service engine light spontaneously came on while the consumer was driving and speed dropped to idling and would not respond to the accelerator pedal and there was an odd odor.the vehicle became normal right after the consumer turned off the engine and restarted it.

My check engine light came on.the next month during an oil change i had my mechanic look at it.they ran diagnostics and inspected my exhaust and informed me that there is a defect in this model that causes the oxygen sensor to be triggered.since the oxygen sensor is part of the same assembly as the catalytic converter, the component was very expensive. They informed me that there was a recall on similar honda vehicles of similar years and that i should contact honda to get it fixed.after many calls with honda, they refused stating that my year and model was excluded, despite having identical issues.

Consumer has exhaust concerns.there was a small crack at the catalytic convertor.there was also some rattling noises heard.an a-pipe heat shield was replaced.*jg

Exhaust manifold/calalytic converter assembly cracks on 1996-2000 honda civic except ex models causing an exhaust leak creating danger of carbon monoxide poisoning and effecting emissions controls.dt

Vehicle was sluggish and consuming more gas; a rattling noise at acceleration after being idle for awhile; accelerated with reduced power.i took it into the shop and was told the exhaust manafold was cracked.the car is no longer making the noise and is running as it should, but the cost to me was $620 (mostly in the honda part).

The check engine light came on; it turned out that the o2 sensor had blown.we were about to have it replaced when our mechanic suggested that he had seen a bunch of honda civics with the same problem and as it turned out, the exhaused manifold had cracked causing the o2 sensor to go.when our civic was check, this was exactly the case.it is ~$1000 for parts alone.we believe honda knows this problem exsists and will not recall due to the cost.

While driving engin check light came on, and consumer's noticed a 50% drop in gas mileage.vehicle checked by dealer, who determined oxygen sensor had failed.vehicle will not pass state emissions requirements.

The honda civic 1999 will not passstate emissions test not because of the catalytic converter (which from what i understand is covered no matter what), but because of the oxygen sensor.honda claims even after the warranty is up any problems associated with failing emissions test are covered no questions asked.my question is why hasn't there been a recall on this piece.many who have this model are complaining about the exact problem.i have put a lot of money into this car and it seems more problems occur.i was told until i get the sensor replaced, i should put a higher level of gas(89/93) in the car, which means more money out of my pocket. Also, the car vibrates uncontrollably at high speeds and while stopped, it feels as if it is going to stall.i was never informed of the recall on the ignition piece.hopefully, honda will fix that problem.the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced by honda.

Oxygen sensor broke and petrol consumpton increased 2-3 times.nlm

- themanifold of a 1999 honda civic was cracked, and therewas no warranty on the vehicle.the failure wassimilar to the onein themodel years: 1996 to 1998.the manifold's crackwasnear the oxygen sensor.the contact called honda corporation ,who stated that the warrantyexpired and they would not speak with her.she should call america honda customer relations. She was informed that the warranty and the problems that she was having was vin specific and the recall didnot apply to this vehicle.this failure started in 2005, and shereplaced the cracked manifold. Now,the catalytic converter malfunctioned.

My check engine light has been coming on periodically for a few months. I was informed when i took it to honda that my catalytic converter needed to be replaced. I wanted to check on a second opinion just to be safe. When doing soi have been to 3 different independent automotive repair shops that specialize in honda's. Each states that there have been a number of requests forcatalytic converters over the past 8-9 months for my same model. I found that to be very disturbing. I would strongly suggest that this be looked further into.

While driving in an intersection during rush hour traffic, the vehicle's engine check light came on, the vehicle started to idle near zero causing the vehicle to stall.vehicle was taken to dealer and i was told it was the catalytic converter.manufacture was notified and they stated it will take 3-6 months to repair because honda manufacture has to develop a part in japan because the part is not available.will notify the epa office.

The problem started with a defective cvt type transmission. Complained to american honda and they agreed to replace the transmission if i paid $504 in labor costs. One year later the transmission died again, i now believe they only flushed out the old transmissioni doubt they replaced the transmission. I complained again and had it replaced. Now the problem is the check engine light. It cost $80 just for them check the computer which has been done twice. I was told that the car's computer was malfunctioning and that there was nothing seriously was wrong with the car. Had the computer replaced after splitting the cost with american honda so it cost me $396. Two weeks later the check engine light is back on, i went to advanced auto parts and had the computer codes read for free they said it was a malfunctioning o2 sensor, now the dealership wants another $260 each sensor plus labor to change both sensors.

1999 honda civiclx, developed engine noise, diagnosed as "something loose", not to worry, get it fixed at next major service interval.check light came on at 82,000 miles, due to a failed o2 sensor. Discovered noise was due to a cracked manifold. Probably what caused the sensor to fail.appears to be a known manufacturing defect. Dealer and honda usa say this is only warrentied to 80,000 miles, estimate about $700 to repair.

Check engine light came on; initial review o2 sensor ($200) part + labor; further review indicated exhaust manifold was cracked, not warrantied; cost to rplcmanifold $500 + labor; and still had to rplc o2 sensor.crack appears to be a stress crack / possible design flaw.

The check engine light came on.my husband took the car to a local automotive shop and was told that the o2 sensor had gone out. Upon further review, the mechanic found that there was a crack in the manifold and that i would cost about $1000 to repair.my husband paid $190 to have the o2 sensor replaces but was told that the o2 sensor may fail again due to the crack.the mechanic states that when he phoned a local honda dealership to obtain a price quote on the parts the lady who answered the phone finished his sentence.the mechanic also said to me that this is a recurring problem that they have seen in honda vehicles.this appears to be a defect in the vehicle as the same problem is happening at dealerships as well as other mechanic shops. This problem should be corrected at honda's expense.

My o2 sensor failed 1/9/2004 with 80,500 mi on my honda civic lx 1999. I replaced the o2 sensor.after hearing about the defective manifold, i had my manifold checked and sure enough, it was cracked.i haven't replace the manifold because of financial reasons.the honda service stated that it will eventually give and will need replacing.

I have had to replace my manifold on my car 3 times!i am told that this is a common problem in the 1999 honda civics. They crack!

I feel it is the responsibilty of the manufactorer to replace a faulty componant at their cost. No safety defect mentioned.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. While driving at approximately 50 mph, the contact heard a loud screeching noise from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the air conditioning unit was replaced. Five years later, the failure recurred. The vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 68,157. The current mileage was approximately 107,000.

Air conditioner compressor clutch burned out. Dealer has repairedvehicle. Please provide further information.

Air conditioner drain was clogged, causing large amount of water to accumulate in the air duct which resulted in a leak into the passenger compartment which molded the carpet. Growing mold has created a strong odor within passenger compartment causing the occupants of the vehicle to become very sick. Consumer has contacted the dealer. Please provide any further details.

Possible design flaw with the front running lights / tail lights are non-functioning while the headlights and dash lights are "on" whichresult in poor visibility and may be possible injuries if collision occured due to failure.

Headlights failed, didnt know till on the road and didnt see my headlights high beams function but neither low beam work.

My family and i were recently stranded with our 1999 honda civic gx.it is a natural gas vehicle and would not start.after having it towed to a honda dealer we were really worried because of the diagnosis.they said it was a short in the emergency shut off valve inside the natural gas tank.a short is caused by electricity traveling through a route that is not designed by the part and usually results in a spark.my family feels very fortunate that this did not result in a catastrophe at the natural gas station.it happened right after we filled up.we found out that the part is non-serviceable and that the service manager said there was nothing that could have been done to prevent the problem.i also found that it is an irreplaceable part and that the entire tank has to be changed which is quite expensive.we already contacted honda directly without any resolve.my family and i wish to do all that we can to prevent this problem and possible damage or death to any other parties owning this vehicle.

My 1999 honda passport has a faulty fuel gauge system. It reads low all the time.

Takata air bag recalls.

My son was driving home and the car shut off all of the sudden? he noticed the rpm gauge just dropping and he gave it some gas be rpm's continued down, he pulled into a business, stopped and opened hood to see or smell for any rubber, burnt , possibly if the timing belt was busted. He called me and we talked about what was going on, so after a couple of minutes he tried to start the car and it started right up. A few times i started the car and as i drove car just died. At times you try to start the car and it may take a few times ,it would want to start up then turn off, and just a few days agoi started the car , waited a few minutes reversed it and car died than when i was starting to leave then car would turn off.

When opening both driver's side and passenger's side doors whilebeing parked on a very slightincline, both doors closed. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer stated normal operation. Please provide any further details.

The contact owns a 1999 honda civic. The contact stated that the latch for the hood would not release when its cable was pulled. The contact also stated that in october 2009, the hood cable release was repaired with an improved product; however, in july 2011 the component failed again. The manufacturer was aware of the failure. No repairs were performed. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 127,513.

Hood blew open while driving 60 mph and hitfront windshield. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.

While driving to work on 1/14/05, southbound on highway i-75, my hood latch opened. My hood started to lift; before i could safely pull to the shoulder of the highway the hood latch safety failed. The hood instantly lifted and slammed against my windshield - completely obscuring my vision. Luckily no vehicle was in the lane to my immediate right. I was able to safely steer the vehicle to the road shoulder. The impact of the hood against the frame of the windshield warped the hood hinges, crumpled portions of the hood and broke molding around the windshield. Fortunately, i was able to partially close the hood and secure it with bungee cords. I was able to return home, driving at a slow speed, without further incident. I currently have an insurance claim being processed and will take the vehicle to the collision shop on 1/17/05 for inspection. I am shocked that the safety latch on the hood could fail under normal driving conditions. If the highway traffic would've been more dense, i'm sure this problem would've resulted in an accident. My vehicle is a 1999 honda cr-v.

Honda civic was parked in car port with parking brake up and in first gear.after driver was out of car for a short period of time the car rolled down driveway into another car.second car was totaled.neither the parking brake or the car being in gear stopped the car from rolling.

Vehicle was parked on shallow slope (neutral gear), parking brake disengaged and car rolled into tree. Estimated speed at impact around 20mph. No occupants in vehicle during collision.

While driving down the highway doing 60mph, my check engine light came on so i pulled into a local parts store had them look up what had made my check engine light to come on and the code that showed up was p0740 (torque converter clutch circuit malfunction). Now my car is having hard times shifting up and down in all speed ranges. I have been researching this problem and have found several complaints but no action taken.

Automatic transmission on my 1999 honda accord v-6 coupe began slipping and shifting roughly at approximately 75,000 miles.aamco diagnosed a lubrication problem causing excessive gear wear, and recommended rebuilding the tranny.honda dealership concurred with this diagnosis, and replaced the entire transmission.the 2001-2003 v-6 accords have already been recalled for this exact problem.i believe a transmission design failure existed as far back as the 1998 accord models.a quick search on the internet revealed over 200 complaints regarding 1999 accord v-6 transmission failures.there is the potential for a serious safety problem if someone's transmission fails while they are driving.note:the website does not offer accord as a vehicle model option, so i selected crx, the only option, instead.

Vehicle makes a loud roaring sound, accompanied by shaking that is strong enough to vibrate the steering wheel and rearview mirror when accelerating from a stop.

While driving uphill, stopped at a light.got ready to pull off, and vehicle popped out of drive into reverse.contacted dealer.

[xxx];1999 honda accord v6, vehicle experienced a problem with the transmission. Vehicle hesitiates when put into gear. Does not go up to 4th. It makes noise. Also leaks fluid.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

When vehicle is in drive, gear jumps into reverse, resulting in a minor collision.

I have a 1999 4 cylinder honda accord with 85,000 miles on it. When accelerating the transmission hesitates sometimes. Also when it shifts from 1st to 2nd it slips, causing the rpms to over-rev badly. I am a first time car buyer and bought a honda because i figured they were reliable and i wouldnt have to shell out the cash for a new transmission 6 months after my purchase.

While driving the transmission made a loud noise and shuddered.the vehicle was taken to shop and both technicians indicted that the vehicle needed a rebuilt, used or new transmission.the consumer contacted the manufacturer but they refused any assistance.

Vehicle gets stuck in reverse, and also grinds in 3rd and 5th gear. Dealer said it was owner's fault.

I own a 1999 honda civic hx. I purchased the car last year and it had 29,000 miles. I took it for a tune up recently and the mechanic told me that there was something wrong with the transmission. My car was shifting from 1 to 3rd gear and missing 2nd gear. He consulted with a mechanic that has a transmission shop next door and he told me that no one will touch the transmission that i had to take it to the dealership. I took my car to the dealership to get a diagnostic. I was told that the whole transmission needs to be replaced and the cost would be around $7,000.00. It doesn't make sense for me to spend that kind of money on a car that is worth slightly over that price. The worst part is that the transmission has been the same since i bought it. So the problem was there beforehand and now my car is not under warranty. I'm very upset about this whole ordeal. I'm not the only one dealing with this situation. I've gone on different websites and other honda owners are having similar problems with their transmissions. I really hope your agency investigates this situation nd look into this problem. If honda produced defective transmissions they should do a recall. Why should the consumers have to pay for a defective item?

While driving in low speed vehicle popped out of gear, and consumer applied the brakes, and the brakeswent straight to the floorboard. Dealer can't determine problem.

Transmission would disengage and/or freeze into first gear.this would happen at speeds anywhere from 1mph to 25mph.the first time that it happened the dealership confirmed the problem but after being hooked to computer the problem diappeared and could not be repeated.the vehicle was returned to us and on the repair form it said that customer will drive and monitor.3 months later the same thing.my wife had he son in the car and luckey enough they were on a side street and not pulling out into traffic.

While sitting at a red ligh and trying to pull out, the vehicle jumped out of gear and went into neutral, lost control, and almost hit another vehicle.

When putting vehicle into drive vehicle idles high. Also, when backing out vehicle. The transmission does not shift into 3rd gear until the speed reaches 40 mph.

When driving at any speed and applying the brakes, the brakes go straight to the floorboard.also, vehicle is popping out of gear.

Once putting 1999 honda civic ex 4dr, in park i am unable to remove the car keys from the ignition.this has now happened twice in one week.the only way i have been able to remove the keys are by, pushing a screwdriver down the slot on the side of the trasmission shfter, the slot that is used to release the gear lever when one wants to tow the vehicle, so says wilde sun honda, in sarasota,fl.

For almost 3 years and 38,000 miles after the defect was obvious, transmission has been shuddering, slipping, and grinding. When starting or breaking on a wet surface and the transmission slips, the car loses control.

Wife had stopped at redlight.she began to proceed in drive when car suddenlypops into reverse.she almost hit a car behind her.hard to get car out of park at times.

Transmission has failed several times. Consumer has had vehicle at dealer, but dealer could not find the cause. Customer states that the transmission has a flutter/shudder sound when coming to a stop and engine knocks on acceleration.dealer flushed transmission three times.replaced transmission.but problem still exist.manufacturer extended warranty on automatic transmission.

I have a 99 honda accord v6 coupe. My transmission started holding out going into second gear, and had a small jerk. When come to a complete stop, it would downshift hard back into 1st gear.the transmission finally gave up on the highway on my way to work. The trany wouldnt shift out of second gear, and when it did, it would quickly shift back down, and cause the engine to rev at a high rpm.i called honda and they said they couldnt help me. I had my car put in the shop, and my trany rebuilt. Cost me $1200. I was reading a chat forum, and have discovered a ton of people who are haveing trouble with their transmissions in their hondas'!!

On 1 feb 05, i took my 99 honda accord, [xxx], to a honda dealer here in fort walton beach florida due to sluggish acceleration.they told me that the transmission system needs to be replaced for approximately $3,700.i asked them why the transmission would breakdown at 47,000 miles only.they said it is no longer covered by warranty but they will check with honda hqs.later on the day, they called and said honda will pay for the parts but i have to pay the labor cost ($504) to replace the transmission.my question is:why do i have pay for the labor if they agree to provide the parts.i read that there is a lot of problem on honda transmission so i presumed it is a factory defect.is there anyway you can help?updated 07/24/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The handle that is the "shifter" for putting the automatic transmission into gear broke off! completely came off the stick and all the pieces inside the hand held piece fell out, leaving the metal rod exposed which, thank goodness, i could push in and still get the car in gear.it is a 1999 honda accord that also has the problem of a previous recall where the car will roll even w/the key taken out.i love my honda but having the gear handle come off is a serious safety hazard and i have no idea if i drive it if it will continue to allow me to shift it.i will have to take it to a dealer? i wanted to report it.

Consumer called complaining about having problems with transmission. Also stated that the transmission is fliping and it rolls back when standing at the same time he is experincing hard shifting. Ts

199 honda accord - the weld on the right bracket on the driver's side seat failed causing the seat to recline backwards unexpectedly.i am only 195 pounds and have never had a seat fail in any vehicle i've ever owned.this should be considered a recall item.the seat failure resulted in me jerking the steering wheel and temporarily loosing control of my vehicle.though i wasn't hurt it could have been worse had there been another vehicle in the lane i veered into.this is something that should be fixed at not cost to the owners of these vehicles.

Drivers power seat reclines on it's own every time i turn off the car. It is not because i hit it with my leg. It does not do it until i turn off the car, exit the car, and close the door. Then i can watch the seat recline. This is very dangerous as my daughter was in a child seat beind the driver, and the rec lining seat crushed her leg causing severe bruising and much pain. Honda claims they never heard of this, but i find references to it on www.

I think there is a problem with the brakes on my 1999 honda civic. Under heavey braking the rear wheels lock up while the front does not.this has happened about 5 times since i bought the car new. When it happens the rear end of the car fishtails wildly and does cause the car to into an uncontrolable spin. I had mentioned this to the dealer who had said it is normal because of weight transfer to the front under heavy braking. ( the preportioningvalve is there to balance the brake line pressure between the bakes so they are equalize pressure as needed?) this also happens on ice cover roads or slipery road under normal braking, the back wheels lock up before the front causing the backen to fishtail. I have not had a reportable accident because of it, but it could cause an accident if this continues.

Mouse infestation of '99 honda covic. Purchased car in july 1999, found mouse evidence within two months, caught mouse with trap. Found more evidence summer 2003, set traps and caught 10-12 mice. Took car into dealer for 30,000 maintenance and to fix heater (which was plugged with something). Dealer shop removed three more mice from air intake/heater motor area. With hantivirus from mice droppings a real threat in the pacific northwest, safety is an issue. The car was never left open when parked. Dealer claimed to have found glass in car and suspected us of breaking glass and leaving car exposed to outside critters.not true, the mice are entering by some entrance "not located by honda dealer". Repairman told wife that he had seen "lot's of mice infestations", but changed his story when his boss corrected him and gave him a dirty look. We suspect that the problem may be more widespread than honda will admit.

After driving the vehicle for an extended time (greater than 30 minutes) in high ambient temperatures (100 degrees fahrenheit or greater) the vehicle emits a strong and strange smell, which appears to be coming from the left hand side of the engine compartment. The smell generally does not penetrate into the vehicle's interior, but it is strong enough that the vehicle cannot be parked in a covered garage because the smell will overwhelm the enclosed garage when the garage door is down. Occasionally the smell can penetrate both the interior of the vehicle and the house. The smell can be intense enough to cause headaches, and it is a possible health hazard. The smell does not affect the vehicle's performance.this smell is not a rotten sulphur smell from the catalytic converter, nor the sweet odor of ethylene glycol from the coolant. It also is not that of burning oil or overheated brakes. No visible emissions are emitted from the exhaust pipe. Perhaps the smell is emitted from the vehicle's emission controls (gasoline vapor recovery system?). The smell is strong and sharp with a "chemical" odor (perhaps benzene?).

Tag # [xxx] , a green honda civic with a male driver was driving down north lake drive in lexington, sc today at approximately 1:30 pm. I was behind that car while he stayed in the left lane proceeding slowly. I remained at about three car-lengths behind this person while he began slamming on his brakes. There was no one in front of him. I tapped the horn as he lost some control over the wheel due to his abrupt stop and attempting to cause an accident. He proceeding to "flip the bird out his window towards me." he continued this behavior for at least two or more miles continually stopping every few moments. He would nearly come to a complete stop each time, then pick back up pace after regaining control. I finally passed him and rolled down my window to let him know i was reporting his tag number. The person directly behind me was now behind this civic dealing with that same behavior as it appeared in my rear view mirror. This obscene behavior needs to be dealt with and not tolerated on our roads.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Beginning in april 2016 and continuing to today, my car will suddenly stall without warning. The engine just stops, and the power steering and power brakes are nonfunctional. This has occurred under varied conditions: high speeds, low speeds, highways, city streets, parking lots, hot days, cool days, with the ac on, with the ac off, with a full tank, a half full tank, a quarter full tank of gas. After the stall, the car does not restart immediately. I've counted, and it takes between 6 and 20 tries to restart the engine. Twice the car would not start immediately when i was leaving work at the end of the day. Again, it took multiple tries before the car started. The engine turns over fine, seems to be weakly starting, but just stops. The mechanic was not able to find the problem; there are no codes that he can read. 129,000miles on the car; i have had full and regular maintenance; and i did have the ignition switch replaced under the recall many years ago.

Fogging problem

The drivers side window failed to go up and down.

While driving down the interstate window on the driver's side door exploded and shattered into millions of pieces of glass.some of the glass cut my husband's (he was driving) face and arms.the temperature does not seem to have been a factor, as it was only 80f.since purchasing the vehicle, the front windows have always had a problem with their seals.we have always experienced a whistling sound coming from the windows when we travel on the interstate.we think the poor seal construction may have been a factor.

There appears to be a defect in the temperlite glass on four of the windows described.it is inside the two panes of glass with no apparant cracks in glass or molding.the inside of the glass, or the adhesive material used in between the glass is bubbling which causes poor vision.the vehicle is currently inoperable because of fear of poor visibility.i have notified honda and am providing them with a letter of liability and informing them that i will be contacting several consumer safety administrations and commissions since they refuse to correct the problem under my extended warranty purchased for the vehicle.this is a severe problem which seems to be possibly caused by some type of contamination or vapors present when the glass was constructed, stored, or installed in the vehicle.

Vehicle experiencing a creaking / groaning noise from the driver's side wheel well / driver's side window when driving at high speeds / the front headliner area. However, on five different occasions dealer to be fix, problem still exist, possible design flaw.

While rolling driver's side window up with automatic button, window stopped approx 1/3 of the way from the top and wouldn't go farther; appeared jammed into the rubber around the window. Upon examination, found to be the window regulator.

My drivers side window slowed then came to a complete stop one rainy day while going through a toll booth. I was trying to close the window. It stopped halfway open or shut depending on your point of view. I brought it to my mechanic and took a peak while he repaired it. The clamps attached to the motorized track, that hold the window in place while moving up and down, had loosened up. The slack had cause the clamp to shift position during movement and the window in turn slid out of alignment. This caused the window to jam against the door frame. The last time this happened it was also during rainy weather.

Rear view mirror is improperly located and is non-adjustable creating a very large forward looking blind spot for people 5'10" and taller. A possible remedy would be to move the mirror up 1"however the mirror is currently not adjustable.i'm concerned that the large blind spot could contribute to future acciddents and pose safety risk to other motorists, pedestrians, etc.

Windshield developed a crack which starts at the base of the window below the plastic molding and is continuing to grow larger.dealer claims there is no defect with the window, and the probable cause is a pebble striking the windshield.when the crack was initially noticed it was about 3 in. In length.it has grown close to 6 in..the windshield of a 2+ month old car cannot develop a 6 in crack from a little pebble without there being a stress fracture of some kind with in the original glass.furthermore the crack starts at the base of the windshield further suggesting a defect.intend to contact the manufacturer in the near future.

Wiper blade failed.

When i drive the car the check engine light comes on. And requires maintence to the vehicle. Just wanted to know if my car is under recalls at all. Thanks sometimes my transmissions slips.

I was driving 40-42 mph and the steering wheel moved to the left.i tried to correct it and my car spun out of control hitting a telephone pole, a sign and 2 curbs.afterwards my right rear axel and noticed it looked as if it had buckled as such.
