Abs and air bag safety system failed at the same time on a 1996 honda accord w/ 90,000 miles.
On friday, feb. 10, 2006, at 10:12 am (pst) the santa maria fire dept. Responded to a traffic collision and after investigation, we found what appeared to be a partial deployment of the driver's and passenger's airbag.the steering wheel airbag cover split partially open as did the passenger's, but the airbag did not deploy.vehicle information:1996 honda accord 2-door.vin: 1hgej6225tlo36355our incident report number 2006-0000786.digital photos were taken and are on file if needed.
The abs modulator failed due to a brake fluid leak.the air bag light came on and stayed on.
Air bag light will continuously come on and stay on while consumer is driving. Contacted dealer, and dealer noted that there could be a problem with the air bag..
Srs dash board light had been intermittenly staying on after engine start up. Turning off and on engine would cause light to go off. Two days ago, light stayed on and will not go off, while ingnition is on. System was scanned and code indicates air bag passive restraint controller has failed. Air bag system is inoperable. The air bag in this vehicle has never been activated. This appears to be a system defect since control unit has never had to be actuated.honda should be asked to cover this item by recalling vehicle for this safety defect. Mr
1-there are no major events which lead up to the failure.2-the srs light has come on randomly3.nothing was done to correct this failure.i have noticed that many people are having problems with the srs light coming on in honda accords and mine is no exception.nothing has been done by honda to make sure this safety feature is corrected.that is very disappointing.
Srs light came on and will not go out.car was taken to dealer for diagnosis.dealer says srs unit has internal failure, (code 8-5)needs replacing.unit failure is not covered by manufacturer.there are several complaints similar to this one, why is honda not recalling this system?? research shows many problems with air bag systems on this 1996 model.
Air bag warning light remains illuminated, indicating a malfunction within the air bag system, cause unknown.dealer cannot identify the problem.please give any further details.
Brakes failed resulting in a vehicle collision, also no deployment of driver's air bag, causing injury.(qc-aw)

Air bag warning light remains illuminated, indicating a malfunction within the system, cause unknown.please give any further details.
The srs light illuminated.consumer took the vehicle to a personal mechanic who informed consumer that there was a computer glitch which needed to be dealt with by honda's service department.consumer took the vehicle to the service department and the glitch was corrected.the light illuminated again and consumer was informed by a honda rep. That they did not correct the problem, they only reset the computer.*jg *dt
Takata inflators & safety belt failed on impact in motion on the highway.
Two major safety related problems regarding to the supplemental restraint system. In july 2000 the srs system failed due to a faulty control unit.in july 2003 the system again failed and was diagnosed as a non-functioning passenger side air bag.
Airbag light came on, not to dealer yet.
1996 honda accord lx.purchased a new cigarette phone charger, plugged it into the lighter which blew the fuse that controls the lighter and radio.replaced fuse and verified power was restored to aforementioned electronics.consequently, additionally noted that the srs light was now also illuminated.took car to mechanic, who diagnosed problem to be a fried srs control unit.in addition was told that this shop has seen many of same era hondas with same problem...there is an issue with the unit not being grounded, allowing other simple fuse failures to back feed the unit and destroy it.honda does not have a recall on there 1996 airbag system; however the 1995 had a problem...the replacement part is an "updated" part with new features to prevent similar failures of re-occurrence.$750.00 for part and labor to install.this is clearly an manufacture defect.
The air bag light illuminated again after the vehicle was serviced.
Shouldn't safety equipment be repaired by manufacturer at no cost to consumer if consumer has done nothing to cause malfunction?my srs light and abs light is on(1996 honda accord ex).my honda dealer wants $1000+ to fix the srs light and $1500-$1700 to replace the abs modulator/accumulator.i had the car for 3 weeks when the first problem light came on and now i have two safety problems.can you help me out on this?
Airbag did not deploy during accident and the srs light stayed on.yh
Air bag sensor light remained on. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under manufacturer'srecall, and repairs would be at consumer's cost.

Consumer states that air bag system failed and had to be replaced.air bag has never deployed. Mr
Takata recall.i was in a accident on sycamore street in baton rouge louisiana on 1/3/18 and a piece of metal shardpunctured my legand fracture my tibia. I was treated for contusions of chest wall also at ochsner on o'neal lane . I'm currently on bedrest and have to remain of my leg and can't return to work until i have a follow-up on 1/9/18. I really would like to attend to this matter as soon as possible , thank you and have a blessed day
Shouldn't safety equipment be repaired by manufacturer at no cost to consumer if consumer has done nothing to cause malfunction? my srs light and abs light is on(1996 honda accord ex). My honda dealer wants $1000+ to fix the srs light and $1500-$1700 to replace the abs modulator/accumulator. I had the car for 3 weeks when the first problem light came on and now i have two safety problems. Can you help me out on this?
I own a 1996 honda accord lx which has a faulty driver side seat belt.i don't have the money to fix the problem and is quite expensive.this happened 4 or five months ago and is, of course, a serious safety concern.now, as of this date, the srs light has come on which apparently is another safety concern due to the fact that the airbags will not deploy.
Thisis the second contact on this car. The srs light has been since approximately since 01/05/2010.i have never been contacted about a recall..
Started up car and the srs light was on. Still remains on after running and driving n for over 60 miles .. Car has not had anyaccidents, hasn't been driven much because it is a second car .. Updated 01/20/11
I had a 1996 honda accord v6 2.7 liters with srs light stays on. I took the vehicle to the honda dealership and i was told that the srs control module unit has a failure and need to be replaced. The unit price is over $700 dollar without installation labor. I talked to american honda motor and they refused to assist fixing this safety concern. Honda suppose to lower the prices for parts on older cars to match the current value of the car.
In 1996 v6 honda accord, the srs light come on and several trials were done to erase the fault. The dealer told me that the srs control module need to be replaced at $800 cost. Dealer told that the airbag will not be deployed in case of an accidents.
Air bag sensor light(srs) remains on. There is no apparent reason for this defect.
Horn works occasionally, srs light won't go off, speedometer stop working.
1996 honda accord ex-l.consumer writes in regards to airbags in vehicle did not deploy after accident. *as
Srs system light on after car is running, approx. Cost to repair 900.00 .is there a recall on this problem , seems there is a lot of people experiencing same as myself .
The vehicle is experiencing problems with the srs control unit, the 1995 model vehicle was recalled, (96v-217) consumer does not understand why his vehicles year was not recalled.nlm
Consumer states that air bag system failed and had to be replaced.air bags have never deployed.mr
Takata recall notice was sent to me on 10/31/2017.i key in my vin and it meets the airbag recall or replace requirement.i then following the online instruction and call a local honda authrized dealer.they answered my call and check the vin to see if my 1996 honda 2 door hatchback accord meets the airbag replacement.they told me that my vehicle does not meet the airbag replace/recall service.i am filing this complaint to bring the attention to the nhtsa regarding this safety issue.
I bought the car on oct 22nd, and on the second day it stalled because of wrong fuse being placed in the car. During that check up i found out that the car has had extensive body damage and none of this is shown up in carfax report and also the dealer told me that the car was never involved in any accident. So i want to return the car under consumer fraud.
During collision there was no deployment of air bags.
My dashboard light showing a problem with the airbag system went on.i took the car to a dealer for a diagnosis.they charged me $55.20. For the diagnosis and told me that the air bag on the passenger side had increased pressure and the system shut down. Neither airbag would deploy if i was in an accident.the charge to fix it was $1200 and it was not still under warrantee.i spoke with their customer service rep in chicago and he offred me $300 toward the repair and i then spoke to their customer service manager who uped the offer to half - $600.everyone acknowledges that the system is a static system and there has been no wear and tear on the system.all involved say they have not seen it happen before, but they will not fix it under warrantee.the customer service manager told me it was because airbags are not a mandated safety item.this car has not been in an accident.the air bags have never deployed.there is no reason for the system to stop working, but it did.one other note is that the mileage reading on this car is 47147, however, the true mileage is approximately 62,000.the speedometer with the odometer had to be replaced at 16,000 miles because it malfunctioned.
The srs light for the airbag illuminated and wouldn't go off.the vehicle was taken to the mechanic and they reset the srs light, then the light came back on. *ph the 1995 honda accords had a recall issue and the consumer believed the problem may have affected the 1996 models. *scc
Srs light comes on at start up and stays on.abs light comes on and costs over a $1000.00 to replace modulator.this is ridiculous!!!
While sitting at an intersection waiting for the traffic light to change another vehicle hit consumer's vehicle from behind anddriver's airbag didn't deploy.dealer is aware of the problem. Ts.
Air bag light comes on, won't go off. This has been going on since april 2016. Light comes on when car is started, and stays on while driving till car is turned off. I read this is an ongoing thing. Why isn't there a recall on this problem? the cost to have this fixed is half the value of what the car is worth.
Takata recall. I have a 10 year old honda accord that is well within the danger zone for recall for airbag failure. Todays washington post says takata admits the problem and says it will recall 40 million affected vehicles. I should be high on the priority list can you help me assure this?.
Air bag doesn't work srs red light is on on dashboard
Engine seal went bad and leaked out oil. Srs airbag light came on and mechanic told srs control unit went bad with a repair of $600. Contacted honda and there was no recall for either part.
Consumer states the airbag light started to blink on and off, then it stayed on. Took to dealer and stated the srs system needed to be replaced.nlm
Srs light came on while driving. Took to dealer they could not find anything wrong, reset the system. While still at dealer start the car, and the srs light stays on. They tell me it's a possible cable reel problem, when they take a look at it there isn't anything wrong. They reset the system, and made multiple test drives without the light coming on. Next time i start the car the light comes on. They have no idea what is wrong, but i can pay to have the airbag replaced, and the internal computer of the car replaced. I have yet to take it back since they don't know what is wrong.
Airbag warning light comes on, indicating a malfunction in srs. This would possibly leave a passenger in vehicle without airbag protection in case ofa crash. Dealer replaced airbag system.
The srs light remains on.
The air bag light illuminated on the dash board and stayed on.
The vehicle was involved in an accident, and the air bags did not deploy.
Both the abs and the srs indicator lights came on. Had dealer check and was told i need a new abs accumulator and modulator, in addition to a new srs controlunit, ( air bag system). These are both cost prohibitive, were very expensive optional saftey features offered at the time of sale. I have looked on line and this appears to be a wide spread problem with the accord 1994-1999 and the odyssey, both of which use the same abs modulator/accumulator. Upon diagnosis, the dealer assured me that this was "normal wear and tear."
Srs light is on (air bag). Just noticed it come on while driving. Too expensive to fix, will cost half what car is worth. Why is their no recall? seams to be a common problem. It's been like this for long time.
Without warning the air bag and the abs light illuminated and stayed on the entire time the vehicle was in motion.
Takata recall1996 honda accord lxvin # [xxx]my vehicle is a 1996 honda accord lx and is not among those recalled.it does have a takata airbag:passenger side.takata part #06780-sv1-a82zb.i believe the car may also have a takata airbag on the driver's side, but have not been able to obtain that info conclusively.i have read the expert report about the cause(s) of the takata airbag malfunctions. Http://wpdown1.com/doc/pdf/download/www__safercar__gov--rs--takata--pdfs--expert_report-hrblomquist.pdfit is extremely frustrating to be unable to determine why my vehicle is not part of the recall.nhtsa representatives (888-327-4236) have not been able to provide any information.neither has honda.honda's main customer service # 800-999-1009 representatives looked up my vin # and found nothing thereabout airbag manufacturer.they claim no takata airbags were installed by honda prior to year 2000. Other honda dealer representatively records demonstrate otherwise and provided the part # for the passenger side airbag (listed above).(also various web pages indicate that honda began using takata airbags in the early 1990's.)my vehicle is in top condition, has fewer than 50,000 miles, new paint, new other things so i am reluctant to stop driving it - at least until i can determine 1.whether my vehicle has one or two takata airbags.(honda reps are contradictory and confused about this.)2.why my vehicle (with at least one takata airbag) is not part of the recall.3.what my options are.(i would hope that since 1996 vehicles are apparently not required by law to have airbags, one option available to me would be to just have the airbags removed.)if you could answer any or all of the above questions, particularly questions 1 and 2 - or direct meto someone who can, i would very much appreciate it.thank you. Srs light came on for 1996 honda accord v6 ex without any incident. Dealer diagnosed and could not understand the error code and suggested replacement of srs control unit. Not changing the srs control unit might cause airbags not inflate when required. The cost of repair is $800 and not necessary it would fix the issue. I searched online and found this is very common problem with accords. Such safety related problems should be recalled by honda.

My alternator is not charging my battery.my wire harness is having a faulty and i can't figure it out
I was driving my 96 accord at 45 mph on a spring day and it shut off as though i had turned the key off. It would restart for as long as the key was held in the "start" position, but as soon as the key was released (to normal operating position) it would die. The cause was a faulty ignition switch which i had replaced by a repair technician. While i fortunately suffered no harm, had it happened traveling uphill or through an intersection the results could have been disastrous.
Faulty ignition switch...recurrent intermittent problem.fails to start.this has been occurring off and on for years.sometimes the key sensor senses a key in the ignition when a key isn't inserted, thus a beeping sound when the door is opened even if the key is not in the ignition. Car has shut off while driving several times over the years.
This latest electrical system failure has yet to be dianosed by a mechanic; i am guessing the cause is the same as the 2 previous failures. Whether my guess is correct, the bike's electrical system failed completely, causing loss of power with no warning, while i was riding in the middle (third) lane of the freeway at 65mph. A honda technician who replaced a defective regulator on this bike before told me the units tended to fail because they were intended for touring and didn't perform well in commuter conditions. Have you heard this before?
Honda accord1996, windows automatically open when the vehicle is not occupied, but is parked and locked.upon return, honda accord windows are open to half way.this creates a danger for the owner of the vehicle as if parked when there is no daylight, someone could enter the vehicle unknown to the driver, or carjacking could occur due to easy entry to vehicle as well as car theft to interior of vehicle and trunk of vehicle.this has been reported to honda and stated answer is - when key is clicked more then once, this will cause windows to open, even when owner is indoors and accidentally hits the key.this is a potentially life threatening problem.

1996 honda accord.driving on freeway on the third line. Suddenly car lights on the front panel turn on. Engine stopped. I have a 1996 honda accord which was suddenly stalling with all the power down for few minutes. After few tests my mechanic said the problem is with ignition key switch. After spending $600 plus the problem stopped. After researching i found out there was a recall for the same problem but for model year 1997 onwards for the same car. After further research i found that there were lot of people on the model year 1996 who complained about the same problem but whose car were not recalled and fixed by honda. So i think honda should all include the model year 1996 for recall or reimburse people like myself who had the same problem and whose car were not recalled and who ended up spending hundreds of dollars. Honda should have included model year 1996 along with other year for recall.
1996 honda accord, automatic transmission, having trouble removing the key from the ignition, seems like the systemdoesn't realize that the transmission is inpark.the problem occursevery other timeso far, seems like something is worn outor on the vergeof adefect.please advise asap, i don't want to get stuck someplace.is this problemon a recall basis ???
The contact owns a 1996 honda accord. While stationary and driving various speeds, the engine indicator illuminated and remained lit over a period of time. The contact stated that the speedometer would not record the proper speed/mileage. In addition, the contact stated that the battery was drained on numerous occasions and the battery life of the vehicle lasted six months or less. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 185,736.
I own a 1996 honda accord and it has been a reliable car until recently.it has been regularly mainted.i was driving to work when the car kept acting like it was going to stall when i hit the gas.it finally stalled while i was driving to work at 55 miles per hour.after taking it to the honda dealer and spending $300 for repairs which included replacement of spark plugs, fuel induction service and throttle body cleaning, the car was still not repaired. After the car would not start, imyself replaced the distributor cap, rotor and ignition coil. It is now sitting at a local mechanic who figured out the problem was the distributor assembly.so $1,000.00 later my car is fixed but i still feel very unsafe driving it and will never trust it again.

While driving at normal freeway speed, engine suddenly quit, tachometer dropped to zero, fan, radio still worked.a few seconds later while the vehiclewas still coasting, engine started again. This happened several times, quite scary, and dangerous with two kids in the car on a busy freeway.
It began a couple of months ago intermittently. The car would stop running for no reason. It would start up again with no problem. Now, the car will only run while holding the key between the run and start position. As when it began happening, it does not matter if the car is in gear or not, sitting idle or driving down the highway.
The contact owns a 1996 honda accord.the vehicle has an ignition switch issue.once the key is released from the ignition, the vehicle stalls.the failure occurred at a store once and the vehicle could not be started.the mechanic initially thought there was a loose connection on the battery, but he later discovered that it was a switch issue.the ignition switch was replaced.the contact stated that the 1997 accords are under recall for this same failure, but not the 1996 accords.the current and failure mileages were 185,000. Updated 6/8/09 updated 06/11/09.

As i prepared to slow to a stop in a relatives circular driveway, the engine began to rev up with a high pitched whine.i turned the wheel to avoid hitting a parked car in hopes of stopping the car but it continued to gain speed and ended up hitting a pickup in the same circular driveway.the brakes did not seem to function as the car picked up speed.

I have had my car for 10 months with repeated trips to the dealer and numerous calls to the point of purchase, with no results, i have been given the run-a-round to many times to count. I have a 1996 honda accord and it has a head gasket problem and the engine is having to be rebuilt. The head gasket and engine are badly water damaged and warped, and it is costing me in excess of $2,400.00 to get it repaired. I was told that repairs were made to my car but never received a work order proving that said work was actually done. I am trying to seek protection under the lemon law so any help you can give me in that effort would be greatly appreciated!

While driving, the oil light started flashing.i checked the oil level and found that it took almost 4 quarts of oil to fill it back up.i then started the car to see why and where the oil was coming from and it was gushing out of the timing belt cover.i had the car towed to my dealer and they told me it was a blown balancer shaft seal.after everything was added up, it cost $653.80 to repair.we complained about it to the dealer when the car was being repaired, but were told it was a wearable part that we were unlucky enough to have go.my father recently told me he read in a local newspaper automotive column that a woman had the same problem.i looked up the nhtsa website to see if there were any others who may have had the same complaint, and was very surprised to find out there were quite a few.had my wife been driving the car on the highway with my 15 month old son, and the engine failed due to loss of oil, it could have been a very dangerous situation.if enough people complain of this problem hopefully honda will issue a recall; however, we are still out $653.80.

Engine block - had previous old leaks from oil pan gasket, tooken to dealer 4 times for repairs and on the fourth time they discovered a cracked block.they advised me it was my responsibility and i should be lucky i have a extended warranty to pay for the repair.also i was told my honda world where the car was repaired somewhat and my american honda that they have known about this problem and it is caused by a manufacturing defect (porous engine block).dealer and manufacturer takes no responsiblity both has stated i bought the car and know it is my problem. On the window regulators they have a bulletin and know they go out prematurely but they state it can be fixed at my expense.again the manufacture knows they have problems but still believe the consumer should pay for their short doings.please help them understand the consumer should not have to pay for there errors in manufacturing.

The front balancer shaft seal blew and oil gushed out of the engine in less than ten minutes.my wiife and i had just made it off the interstate when we noticed the smell of oil.upon parking, we saw oil pouring out of engine.no warning lights were on and no smoke came from the engine. I was told by mechanic that the seal is defective but honda doesn't have a full recall and will only fix the seal when it blows which could cause permanent engine damage if the engine is not stopped immediately.i've done research on this problem and others have this same problem in the us. It seems the seal is definetly deffective, but honda won't repair it until the problem happens.of course, i was not notified of the problem until the seal blew.i was informed by honda america that i just missed their reimbursement deadline (january 1, 2003) because my seal blew on january 24, 2003.i think honda should continue to pay for this faulty seal repair since it is a defect they allowed in their vehicles.

Was traveling 70mph when suddenly engine seized up, vehicle had stopped, lost all power, andoil was shooting out every where.had vehicle towed to garage. Mechanic indicated that engine had blewn up, and thatwas reason for oil leaking.would replaceblown engine with a used engine. Received a product recall letter in mail regarding engine recall. Do not have old engine.
A few minutes after leaving a retail business, the businessman called me on my cell phone to advise me there was a large amount of fresh oil where i had parked. I immediately pulled over on the freeway only to find oil gushing out of my engine. I immediately exited the freeway and went to the 7-11 at the top of the exit ramp. I added 4 quarts of oil and drove straight to the honda dealership approximately 5 miles away. By the time i arrived at the dealership all the oil had gushed out again. The dealership said the seal on the front balancer shaft had become dislodged. They said it would cost $750 to repair. The timing belt was full of oil so it too had to be replaced. If it wasn't for the alert businessman and the fluke that i had given him my phone number, i never would have been aware of the problem until either the engine seized up and/or caught on fire. The dealership and the manufacturer seemed unfazed by the potential disaster that i narrowly averted simply by a fluke of chance. This problem should result in a recall to prevent others from getting killed if the car catches on fire and seizes up while driving at highway speeds!!
While driving about 50 mph oil light came on, engine started losing power.consumer pulled toside whereengine check light came on.vehicle had to be towed. Then, technician told consumer about a recall concerningblowen engine.

Frontbalancer shaft seal blow ,oil gushed out of engine in less then 10 mins est.was told by dealer that happens to a lot of this model that the seal is defective but honda does'nt have a full recall, will only fix when seal blows which causes permanent engine damage if vechicle is running.after i got my car back the engine light stays on and the dealer says i have to pay to find out why, should'nt honda of america pay since the light never came on before this problem and start immediatly after they repaired the bad seals.i've done research on your site and others and this seems to be a comman problem in cold regions in the united statesit seems the seal is most definetly defective but honda wont repair until the problem happens. While traveling at approximately 40 mph, my oil light came on.thankfully i was just reaching my destination.i got out of the car and saw that oil was pouring out of it!had i driven this way, according to my mechanic, my engine would have been destroyed.i had to replace all of the oil-soaked belts, etc due to this part failure.i have seen spoken to several people who have had the same problem (one of whose car's engine did "blow up").the local honda dealership told me that this was a commonly known defect in the seal.this particular seal is generally changed at around 90,000 miles when the timing belt is replaced.unfortunately, the dealership says, many seals break 15-20 thousand miles prematurely causing major damage to the vehicle.i have been told this particular part may be recalled in the near future; i feel this would be an appropriate action for this situation.

While stopped at a traffice light, the oil pressure light started flashing.i immediately pulled into the nearest business i thought would have a mechanic, which was a quick oil change type place.oil was pouring from my engine.seals and belts had to be replaced, including the timing belt so the repair was over $500.however, my car was still leaking oil (which it had never done before). Soon after i received honda's balancer shaft seal recall info in the mail.the problem described seemed to be precisely what happened to me.i took my car to an authorized honda dealer to have the repair inspected and to have the oil leak checked out.i left with another $250 bill and the mechanic felt that my problem had not been the balancer shaft seal because the mechanic at the quick change place incorrectly listed a part replaced as an oil seal on the invoice.the mechanic who did the original repair told me that it was definitely the bal shaft seal that he had replaced and offered to consult with the honda tech.honda tech was unresponsive and uninterested in hearing from the mechanic.after i sent in all the documentation and request for reimbursement i recently received more info from honda, which instructed me to again have my repair inspected by a honda dealer.again i left with a $450 bill in another attempt to fix the persistent oil leak.i have submitted all the info and invoices to honda and am waiting on reimbursement.

My mother passed away and gave the car to her grandson. He was driving to work when the engine light began to blink. He proceeded to pull off the road when the engine stopped. The speed at engine stop was approximately 35 mph. He had to push the car off the road. There is a service bulletin 961001b, nhtsa id #sb049981, issued 1096, listed in the nhtsa database on the balance shaft seal which appears to have failed. The car is now at jack ellena honda in lawrence, ks (785) 843-0550 with a blown engine. American honda doest not believe that they should cover the burden of a new replacement engine, though they have agreed to a 50% replacement cost of a remanufactured engine. The car is just 2000 miles over the warranty period.

While driving, oil light indicator suddenly started flashing.pulled off highway and proceeded to nearest gas station.i told the gas station mechanic that my oil light indicator had suddenly started flashing.gas station mechanic opened up the hood and checked the oil.dipstick came up dry.all oil had been lost.gas station mechanic proceeded to put two quarts of oil in vehicle.while doing this gas station mechanic noticed that there was a major oil leak.he informed me that there had been reports of a defective oil seal in 1996 honda accords and he advised me to take the vehicle to the nearest honda dealership.at that time, i contacted my insurance company who provided towing services.vehicle was towed to ed morse honda on us1 in fort lauderdale, florida.i advised mark greene, service attendant at ed morse, of what had happened.i also told him that the gas station mechanic had mentioned a defective oil seal.i left vehicle at dealership and they promised to call with an estimate.when mr. Green called back with the estimate, he informed me that the oil seal would not be covered by honda.the cost to fix the oil seal was $510.mr. Greene also recommended replacing timing belt and water pump for an additional $170.
Engine overheats and has made noise since ownership, overheats even when gauge does not indicate. (attorney for consumer).
Driving down street and oil light came on..proceeded to store and put oil in car, drove approximately 10 miles and oil light came on again. Then i determined that all the oil had drained out. Oil is pouring out of my car faster than i can put it in.searching on the internet i've found that other honda accord owners of the 1996 model had the same problems. I even noticed that one had a recall for the damaged part. I have no recall and have lived in the same location..just 5 minutes from the honda dealer where the car was purchased. My car is soaked in oil from the front to the back..tires included. I'm surprised it didn't catch fire. People need to be aware of these defects and shouldn't have to pay.

The vehicle experienced a severe engine oil leak and the vehicle was taken to the mechanic for repairs, the manufacturer had sent a product update campaign stating there was a design problem with the balance seal oil shaft, the consumer requests reimbursement.nlm
Same exact incident happened to another car i owned, honda accord lx 97, at the same mileage range (59k-60k). Only with accord 1996, i was fortunate enough to stop on time, and was able to save the engine. Whereas, in the accord 97 situation, i was too late, all of the oil came out, and engine was irreparably damaged. The cost of repairs for accord 97 was $2,000, it required a whole new engine + oil pump, change of seals and belts. According to the honda accord manuals, maintenance (change of timing belts, etc.) on the car should be done at around 90k miles, excluding the regular oil changes. Therefore, both incidents were not related to a delayed maintenance, but to an irregular failure of the oil pump and the oil seal. Both cases are identical on similar cars and deserve to be investigated.

I had to have the balancer shaft seals replaced on my 96 accord after their complete failure at a cost of $700.in october i received word that the car was being recalled for he problem and that i could submit for reimbursement.was told to expect payment in 8 weeks.that was 8 months ago.honda is not processing these reimbursements in even a remotely timely manner.they clai they underestimated the time involed, but even if they process 5 a day they should be mailing out checks.they are stonewalling, and refuse to communicate with the consumer over the mater.
While driving oil indicator light came on -lost all oil in engine. Balance shaft seal popped out along with cam shaft sealresulted in loss of all oilno prior warning. Cost 483.22 repaired at dealership. All belts required to be changed. Manufacturer refuses to accept resp for cost. Dealership did not inform of service bulliten notification dtd 10/96. Clip needed to be installed to avoid re-ocurrance.nhtsa should be made aware that these clips are being installed on cars when belts are changed for masintenance at 90,000. But what of the owners where their engines are destroyed because honda refuses to make the necessary repair before problem occurrs. They refuse to supply me with complete copy of service bulletin. I have notpaid the bill and will not because this is a defective part and manufacturer has been aware of thiseven on 1995 models. I hope that you consider posting this entire message for other owners.
Timing belt, drive belts and water pump replaced.yh
There is a rattle from the exhaust system at 2000 rpm's, which appears to cause a delay inacceleration.the service tech informed me honda is aware of the problems but feels that it doesn't warrant repair at their cost.

When accelerating, the exhaust system makes a loud vibrating noise, which honda service attributes to a problem with "torque". Service rep. Claims it happens over time, and honda makes a "buzz kit" for the problem. If it is already a known problem by the manufacturer, then replacement or repair should be at no cost to the owner.
When accelerating vehicle hesitates and appears not to gain any power.also, a loud unusal noise occurs.brakes squeled, dealer replaced front brake pads and machined rotors.dealer found b-pipe gaskets leaking which was causing noise upon acceleration.
Whenever usingair conditioning and if the weather is 100 degree outside, the air conditioner will blow out hot air for about five minutes and thenblow out cold/warm and hot airalso, thereis a loud noise coming from the compartment.
I took it to the honda place 3 times to be repaired. After they dye tested it was found that there is a leak in the evaporator. I was told that this often happens with this year vehicle
Consumer was driving and noticed smoke coming from the vents the consumer cut the air conditioner off, and there was cold air coming out of the vents.
Electrical cable for the air conditioner failed, consumer unable to receive repair work due to lack of parts as a result the vehicle caught fire while driving due to cable failure.

My complaint is not with my car, but with halogen headlights in general. I am very alarmed at the blinding light they put out and believe it is very dangerous to drivers of oncoming cars. Please respond about safety tests that were done to allow them to be used. Thank you.
Headlights failed.
Poor gas mileage, avg. 17 mpg for city and highway combined.dealer says this is to be expected of this car.i thought this 4 cyl. Would do better. Very disappointed.

Was driving about 30 to 35 mph when the consumer lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle pulled to the left resulting in an accident. Consumer has contacted the dealer.the cause of the problem was gas tank which locked up.
This problem has exsisted since my purchase of the vehicle. I have read and even been informed by my dealer that this failure is common to my make model and year vehicle. I have also been told this is at my cost to fix, and i feel that honda should be responsible for the faulty part(s) not me. I am hoping that enough people will file complaints so that honda is asked to perform a recall to fix this problem. This failure causes a false fuel reading which could leave me stranded on the side of the road because i might think i have enough fuel to go some where and end up not having enough. This failure should be honda's cost to fix not mine, and maybe by filing this complaint all of us with this problem will get our vehicles recalled to be fixed.
Consumer states because she has been unable to satisfy her recall notice , all of her oil leaked out of her auto, and her engine seizedup.it stopped on the highway, and she had it towed to the nearest honda dealer.no injuries. The auto was able to roll off to the side of the highway. Consumer states she has been to more that 2 places and has been told that the part is on back order. Ts

One day just like that i was driving home from work and i came to a red light so after coming to a complete stop the light turned green my car was on in drive and i accelerated and the car just wouldn't move. Got it towed and i got check engine light codes and it was p0401 and p0108 so i cleaned the egr valve and bought a new map sensor and installed it. The car had a new battery, the transmission oil was full and with no visible black color or smell, the car started but would not get into gear and just wouldn't move. Called a specialist mechanic and he brought his tool to check the whole computer part of the car wich is the next best thing to towing it to a transmission shop, the result came back inconclusive with almost certain transmission failure. After corona a lost of vehicle and job i am judt about to sell it as is cut my losses and maybe buy a bicycle for now. I just need to leave about one hour before work and buy a good axe body shower spray and attach life ones again.
Transmission had developed a grinding noise. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they saidcould not find where the noise was coming from.dealerstated that ithad been a manufacturer's defect. Dealership stated transmission needed to be replaced, however honda is not willing to cover any of the cost to replace it, vehicle has low mileage to be experiencing transmission problems.
Vehicle was taken to dealer because the automatic transmission was making a whining noise.mechanic determined that transmission must be replaced.

Transmission failed, replaced and started to failed in 1999 again. Yh
Five times the comsumer has put the car into reverse, the gear jumped out of reverse into drive and the consumer could not get it into reverse.please describe in detail.

There is a loud noise coming from transmission due totranmission blowing out.consumer has to reduce the speed in order for the noise to stop.
While engaging into reverse gear the automatic transmission lunged forward causing a collision.
My transmission went out at 35,000 miles they replaced it at no charge.now at 46,000 miles the engine check light keeps coming on and ive taken it to the dealerships about 4 times they cant find anything wrong with itbut i know its the transmission again because the car idles all the time like its going to die out on meand it has died out on me it runs crappy this is my first car and i paid alot for it hondas are supposed to be reliable and this one sure aint!they canged a computer part of the emissions control they said thats why the light comes on but i took it home and a week later it came back on.so monday they are going to take the transmission out and check if its burnt out or something like that and if it is they are going to replace it again!!
Defective balancer shaft seal broke loose, causing an engine replacement because of immediate oil loss w/no warning indicators. Just had oil change and transmission oil flush a month ago. Honda needs to reimburse costs of total repair due to defective item. Never received recall notice either.
96 honda accord lx 2.2l transmission failure at 79,758 miles. A rebuilt transmission was installed on 11/28/08 due to transmission constantly slipping and actually leaving my 23 yr old son, away at school stranded in the middle of the expressway. I have read online that many honda accord owners have had transmission problems as well. I would also like to note that american honda never contacted us ref to the emissions warranty being extended to 14 years or 150,000 miles [bulletin 98-081 http://www.epa.gov/otaq/cert/recall/fr33394.htm ]. We found out ourselves while on the internet last month doing research on honda transmissions. The rebuilt transmission replaced 11/28/08 failed us again when our son was returning to orlando. We had to go and tow the car back to miami for additional transmission repairs. This time it was due to a torque converter failure.
Occasionally when vehicle is put into reverse gear the vehicle will go forward.
Starting in sept. Of 2001 my vehicle would not change from 3rd to 4th gear.the engine light came on, took it to a local mechanic.after checking it with his computer he found no problem, reset the check engine light.he researched the vehicle and told me that honda was having problems with transmissions when it was humid!?!?!so i thought that i would see if it continued to do this when it cooled off.it has and it has gotten to the point that every morning it will not change gears until i have driven approximately 1/2 mile, stop and go again.even then sometimes it doesn't change.

While driving on the nj turnpike, automatic transmission unexpectedly slipped into neutral(slipped from d4 to neutral).engine revved to red line before i pulled over. Just narrowly missed getting into an accident.
Second failure of seal.see prev. Questionnaire filed . Ref. #827854, 14 sep 1998.
Reporting oil seal came loose and caused loss of oil/ leakage while driving at 65 mph. Dealer notified, and unwilling to assist in this matter. Please provide any further details on this matter.

Consumer states that while driven the vehicle had buckle the seat belt and was able to pull the bckle out with out releasing the lock.dealer was contacted.
The seat belt retainer latch (that receives the tip of the seat belt) does not retain the seat belt.the seat belt looks as though it is properly installed but it can be pulled loose with moderate effort.it is quite possible for someone to think that the seat belt is working ok when its not.it may be that this condition is common enough for you to be keeping a file on it.if you want more information i will send it to you.i am a retired engineer with automotice experience so you can get accurate information from me if you want it.the dealer has offered to replace the seat belt latch at no cost.honda has a lifetime guarantee.i can suppose that many failures of this type could occur in accidents but be attributed to impropper seat belt use.this could hide a condition that could have killed many people.you might want to check the national accident files.i can delay having the belt fixed for a few days if you want to confirm that it is indeed defective.
Passenger's side lap/shoulder belt overtightened, to loosenthe seat belt needed to unbuckle,in for repair, replaced the lap/shoulder belt, continues to fail.
Driver's seat belt didnot latch properly into the buckle.the dealer could not find the cause of theproblem.
Front seat belt buckles will intermmitenly fail to engage.seemingly when it's cold, the buckle will "click" as if it is locked, but after a short pull for verification, it comes undone. Requires 5-10 additional attempts before it will lock. Driver's buckle started failing in oct-98; front passenger's started dec-98.

Seat belt failed to retract during an accident, also no deployment of driver's air bag upon impact, resulting in an injury.
Driver'sseat belt will not retract.
Upon starting the vehicle the passenger's side seat belts locked up,making it impossible to move.

Abs system failed at 67,548 miles. Abs light came on. Honda service departmentreplaced accumulator and rebuilt modulator for $590. 14 months later during state inspection same honda service department said abs system failed again later at 84,300 miles. Abs light did not come on this time. Estimated cost to replace modulator is $1,270. Car cannot pass inspection without that replaced.
Abs needs to bee replaced aft 3 years and 43,000 miles
When car was turned on you heard a weed eater noise for about a minute and then noise wnet away and the abs light came on. Took it to dealership and had to have the abs modulator and accumultor replaced. Dealer thought it was odd for a dar with not that many miles on it. Then looked on internet and saw many reports of the same thing. I think the abs should be recalled in 1996 accords.
The abs light illuminates constantly.consumer states when the abs light illuminates and the brakes are applied in an emergency the vehicles brakes lock up.please provide any further information. Ts
Brake rotors failed.
Rotors warped prematurely.
Anti-lock brake system modulator failure. Leaking fluid in close proximity to exhaust manafold. Fire hazard. Dealer repair price quoted at $1400 - $1600. This abs modulator appears to have a much higher failure rate than expected, based on the number of complaints i've seen on the internet.based on the excessive repair price many people will chose to ignore the problem, or continue to add fluid, which will only increase the fire hazard. Others have chose to bypass the abs, which defeats the purpose of having the abs safety enhancement in the first place
1996 honda accord brake lines under car rusted thru to failure where plastic clamps hold them in place.brakes failedcannot see corrosion with out removing plastic cover.fuel line also severly rusted in same location where clamped.
While driving the abs warning light illuminated on the dashboard intermittently.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the problem was fixed. *phthe dealer replaced the abs accumulator and modulator.
Abs unit failure as stated in the service bulletin, owner would like abs to be repaired without costs due to defect in design.*mjs
Anti-lock brakes. Electrical-headlights, power windows-driver side failed.
I bought my 1996 honda accord ex about a year ago and the dealer told me that the abs light came on, but that it was nothing to worry about that it had been checked out and nothing was wrong. I did some searching on the internet and found out that i wasn't the only one who had an abs light problem. I talked to my honda dealer and they told me that the worst case scenario was an abs modulator that would cost 1,200+. When i start my car it makes a funny noise for about 30 seconds and then my abs light comes on and the noise stops. I wasn't concerned at first , but i found out that i could contact nhtsa and some action could be taken. If myabs system does not work and i slam on my brakes and they lock up and i hit someone then i am at fault , but i could not help hitting them if my brakes are locked up and i am still going. This could cause serious injury or maybe even death. I do not have 1,200+ to fix this. The honda co. Shouldn't have used faulty parts. Could you please look into this and let me know something. A good place to go to find out information on abs modualtors is yahoo.com. I havebeen told that this is done case-by-case.here is a case number that i attained off of the internet. : (301).990.2000. I hope this helps. Thank you for listening to my complaint.

Abs is failing due to fluid leak and lack of pressure.this car is relatively young and should not be experiencing this type of defect.the number of related postings for this problem would indicate a situation deserving further investigation.loss of abs can result in loss of control and considerable injury.

The car is only 5 years old and abs modulator leaks.dealer suggested to reseal it, and dealer said they've seen the same problems before but cannot provide information what causes the leak.
Abs light on 1996 honda comes on after 1-2 miles after starting vehicle.pump makes noise after starting vehicle.slight leak.a honda specialty shop has already replaced the resevoir and torqued the o-rings, but the light continues to come on.the honda dealer says that the modulator needs to be replacee at a cost of $1100.after researching the internet this is obviously a big problem for 94-96 honda accords, expecially those manufactured in ohio with the vin# beginning with 1hg, which my car is one of those vechicles from ohio. There is obviously a defect with this unit and this should be investigated by your office for a possible recall.honda should take care of this problem for their comsumers. Please advise on any actions.
Needs to be a recall- this problem is very common. No safety defect listed.
Abs pump and assembly failed and had to be replaced.
The abs light goes on and off, and i took it to a honda repair place and they told me that the abs modulator/pump is leaking. They informed me that the part alone was $1,200.00, and with labor it would be $1,400.00 to replace. That too me sounds absurd. I contacted the honda dealer, and they informed me that this was a rebuilt part, and honda did not supply new parts to replace this faulty abs modulator. At this point i'm very disappointed with honda of america, and i have found numerous individuals on the web that have this same problem with their abs modulators leaking.... To me this is just another opportunity for honda to make an extra buck on its loyal customers.

I own a 1996 accord exl. One morning recently my car started humming when i turned it on and when the humming stopped my abs light came on. The dealer diagnosed it as abs pump running excessively and leaking modulator. The cost of the repair totalled $1,920.00. The dealer told me to contact honda as they thought that the abs should not fail this early. When i contacted american honda i was told that it was outside their assistance as i had over 36,000 miles on my car. In addition, this was a normal wear and tear part like brake pads. I was also told by the dealer that the faulty abs part which primarily affects 94, 95 and 96 models has been modified.i also own a 1994 honda accord ex and a 1995 civic ex.now i'm worried about those abs parts failing too.

Upon further research into the matter, i discovered a honda service bulletin had been released to dealers prior to my complaint that acknowledges a problem with "leaking abs modulators" honda service bulletin # 960-50 june 30,1998. It states that the plugs in the abs modulator may not be properly tightened, and goes on to describe a simple inexpensive fix for this symptom. When i again contacted the dealer and made them aware of this, they again said they would fix it by replacing the unit for $1500-$1600-no warranty-no exceptions. I inquired about the regional warranty representative, got his phone number, and called him.again i described the problem,my concerns, and the honda issued service bulletin. He said that while the bulletin does describe one possible fix for the problem, the honda dealers were not bound to follow that recommended avenue of repair.in other words,"spend 1/2 hr. Fixing something for $100, or spend 1/2 hr fixing it for $1500".i would like to stress that, since i work in a consumer related field, at no time did i present myself unprofessionally,or fail to show respect to the person to whom i was speaking,as i believed that ultimately,"reason" would win out.
The anti-lock module no longer worked on the vehicle.

Tires wear excessively.
Bought car used in july. Tires looked fine and should have lasted a long time. Owner said tires were only 6 months old. Two firestone tires on front, two goodyear tires on back.firestone tires two months newer than goodyear. Tires looked fine when parked, but when steering wheel turned, there was no tread on the inside and the steel belts were showing all the way around the inside of both front tires. My husband refused to let me drive car unless tires were replaced. By the time i drove my car to the tire dealer (approx 10 miles), the left front tire was completely flat. I called firestone while i was having new tires put on, and they would not discuss it because these were not the tires involved in the recall.i am not so much interested in reimbursement as in getting additional tires recalled by firestone that there are other tires that firestone has not recalled that are as dangerous as the ones they did recall. The two goodyear tires on the back were still okay, even though they were two months older than the firestone. I went ahead and replaced all four tires.( dot number: tire size: 205/60/r15 )
Side wall blowout of passenger front tire.inspection showed tread separation and bulge on passenger rear in same location as failure on front tire. Both tires replaced and discarded.( dot number: y7j6 tire size: p185/70r14 )

I have had two firestone tires to blow out.the first one caused an accident.i would like to get back the money i spent having the other person's car repaired, and also get own repaired.the second blow out left me stranded on the freeway.i submitted a claim to firestone and they are refusing to honor my claim.thank you in advance for your consideration.
This is the second tire in the set of four to develop a bubble in the sidewall.(dot # mmv9mahr0100)this would indicate a 50% failure rate on this batch of tires!
Bubbles on side of michelin tires twice.
Original vehicle owner.purchased these to replace worn factory tires. Number includes use of full size spare.over a period of 30,000 miles, 7 out of 10 tires have had sidewall failures including stationary and moving blowouts.manufacturer tells me that they have had no reported failures from others.in my lifetime i have owned over 200 tires and have never before experienced a single failure, less 1 lost to a nail 10 years ago and normal wear.. (tiresize: p195/60r15)( dot number:tire size: p195/60r15 )
This tire's sidewall completely failed, the tread coming off the car intact. The dealer says it is normal due to tire pressure, although the tire pressure seemed fine. Tire was prorated at 50%.( dot number: tire size: 185/65r15 )

I would like to take a moment of your time to let you know about an accident that almost occurred yesterday, 09/04/00, with my 31 year old wife, tonya, and my 2 1/2 year old son, jacob.they traveled 300 miles to spend the labor day weekend with my wife's parents.on the return trip tonya got approximately seven miles from home.she noticed that the car was not driving smoothly and suddenly there was a noticeable shake to the front of the car.she immediately pulled to the side of the road and tried to observe any damage to the vehicle that would cause it to drive so poorly.she could not find anything and she limped the car the remaining seven miles to the house.when tonya arrived she told me about the problem with the car.i looked at it and could not locate the source of the problem.i drove the car approximately 30 feet at a very low speed.i could tell that the car was not operating normally.i again looked the car over and noticed that the front passenger side tire's steel belt had separated.the tire, still holding air pressure and bulging, was the obvious problem.i also noted at this time that the brand was firestone, firehawk ss10.(further info on tires p195/60r15 87s m+sdot vdv9 jbb 226).after doing some investigating about the firestone recall tires i have learned that the separated tire on my 1996 honda accord was made at the decantur plant.today i took my car to the les schwab tire center, p.o.
Came to a red light then tried to drive and the while still on would not move, it was if like in didn't engage the gear, when i put on gas the only thing it would do is the rpm would go up but the speedometer wouldn't.

Re-submit//statereported incorrectly. While driving oil light indicator came on/lost all oil in engine. No prior warning. Able to make it to dealertold that balance shaft seal popped out and also cam shaft seal popped out at same time. Required to replace both seals and all fluids/all belts replaced -cost - $483.22. Dealer claimed no knowledge of prior notification from manufacturer of problem oroffer to contact manufacturer for payment and cost responsibility. Able to obtain information from this site that service bulletins issued on both 1995/1996 honda accords with this problem. Dislodged seal on the front balancer shaft. Dated 10/96. Bill not paid. Contacted manufacturer at first acknowledged defect and remedy but refuses to confirm in writing. Clip is needed to be installed on vehicle which will enable problem from occurring again. Clips are being installed now as part of maintenance when belts are changed at 90,000 and above but manufactuer will not install clips on cars without customer taking financial responsibility. One dealer whom i contacted indicated that i should have been aware of the problem and brought car in before warranty expired. This problem exists on both 1995 and 1996 accords but the manufacturer refuses to supply me with complete service bulletin and has told me that they are unaware ofsuch a bulletin in existence. I hope that this information in able to be posted in it's entirety so that others who have been or will experience this problem know of the condition and the manfacturer's position.i

While drivingengine check light came on, and the vehicle stopped running due to the engine overheating. Mechanic said it had no oil . Dealer had just changed oil.

My car (1996, honda accord ex) was parked in my driveway after the last time it was driven prior to the incident.the next we noticed was the car was rolled off the driveway (in reverse) and had climbed the curb (both rear and front wheels) and ended up on the lawn of the house across the street from our house.additionally the cars gear was not in park (my son who drove the car back to our driveway from the lawn failed to notice in his haste and excitement what the gear was in).additionally now the cars gear can be switched without the foot on the brake.also, the ignition key can be turned and the car started without the foot on the brake.fortunately nobody was hurt in the incident.
Oil from my 1996 honda accord poured out of the front balancer seal while warming up in my driveway. Luckily i noticed it before i had engine trouble. I had it towed to my mechanic's shop and had it repaired for about $500. My mechanic said that the balancer seal had worked itself out and sitting on the crankshaft. I have only 68900 miles on it.
Whenyou step on the gas to accelerate from a stop, the car bogs down, goes very slowly - like it is working very hard to accelerate.the check engine light comes on and the square around the d4 gear flashes.the car eventually gets up to speed and will continue without a problem until you stop again. This is an intermittent problem.i have brought it to the dealer at least 7 times for this. I have never been charged for the repairs but i would like to have the problem resolved.i am afraid i am going to get hit by another car if i pull ouy and suddenly havepower.
Instrument panel squeaking badly while driving.
Vehicle overheated, causing the ignitor to burn out and the vehicle was smoking. Also, when drivingthe engine check light will come on.
While driving-oil indicator light flashing. Indication of loss of all oil. Able to make it to dealership where they had no knowledge of why this would happen. Discovered that balance shaft seal & cam shaft had popped out. Resulting in loss of all oil in engine>this is front balance shaft.all belts and fluids needed to be replaced at a cost of $483.22.which has not been paid.questioned the service manager regarding this as a factory problem.told no.even though service bulletins have been issued regarding this problem for the past 5 years.a clip in needed to be placed on these shaft seals to prevent the problem from continuing to occurr again.unfortunately when reviewing the work order there is no indication that the clip was applied.contacted manufacturer said they knew a problem exists but would not accept responsibility for cost and possible permanent damage to engine vehicle.they refused to supply me with the complete bulletin regarding the problem.one service mgr at anotherdealership said this problem is been going on for years and honda will not acknowledge factory defect.

My car would not stop when i attempted to park it. As a result, the car drove over a sidewalk and through the front window of a business establishment causing serious damage to both the store and my vehicle. Someome could have been seriously injured. The car has been fixed, but i am very afraid to drive it. This has been very costly for me in terms of my deductable and the increase in my insurance this will cause. I was not cited for the accident as the police did not feel i was driving carelessly.

I have had a recurring problem with the power window on the drivers side door of my accord ex coupe.the first incident ocurred on july 27, 1997 at an odometer reading of 21536.the problem was fixed for no cost.the next failure ocurred on october 20, 1998 when the odometer reading was 43050.this was also fixed without charge under a goodwill warranty.the last failure ocurred on 9/28/99 when the odometer read approximately 61442.the dealer (woodland hills honda) indicated the car was well past warranty and they would do a one time only warranty repair for 50% of the repair cost.i was required to pay the balance of $182.09.i told the service department that this was a recurring problem and thought honda should cover the entire repair.i was told the district service manager denied the request.do i have recourse?please advise at the indicated telephone.
