My srs (airbag) sensor light is on. Recently virginia passed a law for state inspections that this unit must work before passing inspections. The price went up from $400 to $1200 to fix in less than a year. Many honda owners are having the same problem. The airbag will not deploy if the light is on. Honda tells me it could be as simple as fixing a seat belt (which is under warranty). This jogged my memory. It was after my driver side seat belt sensor started intermittently working that the srs light came on. In other words, while driving down the road, i take off my seat belt then re-attached it, the sensor did not warn me that it was off. Or saythose rare occasions when i would get into the car, drive off and remember that i was not secure, there would be no light telling me so. Then sometimes it worked fine. When the seat belt issue first occurred so did the srs. Honda will be replacing the sensor for $1200, in order for me to pass virginia inspection. How is it that this is a problem in so many wide spread years and make of hondas? it covers recent years as well. I googled and found an entire of family of honda owners with this srs problem. This is the second honda i have owned. I have never had a safety issue like this before. I am hoping this fixes the problem and i really have an airbag, g-d forbid i should need it!disappointed in honda.

My problem is not with my vehicle, but with the car seat installation.i was in the child safety screen which prompted me to this complaint form.i have searched for information for 3 years on how to install my infant car seat correctly.i have 2 kids, so 2 car seats must be installed on both sides of the back seat.the shoulder seat belt is what must be used in these positions, but they are never secure.when i turn a sharp corner, the carseat shifts to a sideways position.i have tried a locking clip, but i can't get that to work either.also, i think infant car seats are designed unsafely.my infant's head always ends up at her feet when she falls asleep.i was told to put a stack of towels underneath the seat to help the angle of the seat.that does not work satisfactorily either.what would happen in a crash if my baby were sleeping and totally flopped over like that?i am not satisfied that my children are riding safely in their seats and i definitely need some answers.

I was able to pull over without power steering/brakesthe emergency flasher and turn signalalsodidn't work ihad no dash lights with the key on after several minutes the dash lights came on when i turned the key and everything worked againsince then it has lost power but only for a half second ---- just enough to cause a jerk my honda dealersays i need a new ignition switchthey aregriffith motors inthe dallesorpat donnelly

1993 honda accord trunk caught fire while driving on the ohio turnpike. The fire was extinguished by a passerby.the consumer was burned while trying to the put the fire out. Ohio traffic crash report # 10-0725-90

In several separate incidents, while driving at over 60mph on busy highway, the car engine suddenly cut out and went dead, and would not restart. The situations all required trying to coast to a safe place on the road shoulder, steering with no power assist, braking with no power assist, and signaling and manuevering to safely, threading our way through truck and car traffic to safety. Very harrowing. Engine would restart in 1-2 hrs after it cooled down. By then the car was in a garage (honda, in one instance - they claimed no knowledge of this type of problem and put us back on road when car was able to restart, and claimed this to be a mystery to them - yet, we have later learned that honda had in their files some internal warning letter - (tsb 95049, issued dec 95, 'title- distributor, updated unit) at the time of our serious safety problems (2012 - 2014). A mechanic told us confidentially that he was aware that there was probably something wrong on the distributor, and we should get it replaced. We went to honda dealer/garage and requested this replace, and they claimed it was not necessary. From their view and we had to pay for replacement. So we did, to save our lives!

The horn button is too small to find when needed. Dealer says they can do nothing.

Pressing the horn pad(button) the horn does not operate. The dealer is not aware of problem.

Poor location and size of the horn button. *tw

Vehicle experiencing ongoing problem with distributor failure.dealer notified, and informed consumer that extended warranty on the distributor at 73,000 miles expired, and nothing would be done unless costwentto consumer.feel free to provide any further issue on this matter.

Believe failure of distributor while vehicle in motion caused the oil pump to stop functioning and resulted in lack of oil pressure and resulting in engine camshaft (lack of oiling) breaking and destroying cylinder head and engine, resulting in total engine replacment.

The vehicle broke down due to distributor failure, rotor in the distributor melted due to extremely high temperatures.

Distributor problem, screeching, emission system indicator light, engine stall.not covered under recall because it has more that 75000 miles and six years.unethical behavior on the part of the company.recall must be extended.

Vehicle stalled while driving due toa faulty distributor. Prior to stalling consumer heard loud squealing noise, and then malfunction indicator lamp came on.

It seems that the ignition failiure is common on all 1990 to 1993 honda models. Such failiure is extremely dangerouse and can cause a major accident had it happened on the freeway, because once the ignition fails the car just dies.nhtsa should look into this matter and maybe force honda to issue a recall. Nhtsa should not wait for a high number of fatalities in order to open an investigation, prevention is better than cure.

Defective distributor failed while driving. Yh

While driving during rush hour 06/01/2004 the engine of my honda accord lx 93 completely stalled. My car completely stopped ( i was on the left lane). Luckily another driver stopped to assist me to move my car to the emergency lane. Called aaa to get my car to the left. Had my car towed to the shop. The igniter was replaced and now appears to be running okay.

Intermittent stalling.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled suddenly without warning.the check engine did not illuminate.the vehicle was towed to a tire dealership where it was determined the entire distributor assembly failed.

Ignitor unit failed costing me $350 to repair.

Ignition igniter failure: i was just driving and all of a sudden the engine shut down. Almost caused an accident as i was trying to accelerate onto ramp at time. Called aaa service and vehicle towed to ed voyles honda, marietta, ga.30067. Mechanic determined ignition igniter failed and replaced. Had similar complaints according to honda dealer.

While driving on the freeway at normal highway speeds, the engine of my 1993 accord completely stalled (no power).after quick troubleshooting, the car repair facility, s&r service center in vista, ca , determined that the igniter had failed and replaced it.after replacement the car started and now appears to be running normally.

Driving at 70 mph on freeway, car engine turns off. Repair is at a cost of $460.

Failure causes car to stall.manufacture aware of problem however would only fix the problem if it broke.

Ignitor failed, causing vehicle to stall.

Driving vehicle & heard funny noises. Took to dealer. Mechanic noticed bearings & distributor had gone bad.mechanic thought there was a recall. Manufacturer is not acknowledging that vehicle is involved in arecall.

1993 honda accord died in traffic. Ignition failed.

Dt: the contact owned a 1993 honda accord. For a couple of years she has had problems with her ignition switch .car wouldnot start. Tookvehicle to dealerfive times, and spentseveral hundred dollars, butdealership was unable to fix the vehicle. To get out of the vehicle contacthad to keep it running because she wasafraid that it will not start up.she was uncertain of the incident date.

While driving 55 mph andwithout warning vehicle completely shutdown due to a malfunction within the ignition warning kit unit and switch.please give any further details.

Left tail light caused the fire during the driving.

Vehicle stalled. Vehicle had a new battery, but dash lights began to flicker, andvehicle once again stalled. The vehicle was in motion when this occurred. The same event also happened 1 week later. When it did the engine light came on. Vehicle was taken to the dealership, who said there was no problem.

Used engine keeps failingalso bad mechanics in the area including honda dealership over priced features for repairs. Always idling too high with no check engine light or proper emissions explaining oil light reasons?

Massive oil leak. Engine light came on.oil spill splattered all over inside ofengine. Had to change all belts, including the timing belt.balance shaft seal popped out of place!

While driving around 40mph, all the lights and indicators went off and the engine stalled.i could not restart it until 15 minutes after it stalled.10 minutes after restart, the engine went dead (again, while driving at 40 mph) one more time and i needed to wait another 10~15 minutes to restart.

Radiator's upper weld failed caused leakage. Yh

Consumer never notified of problem/recall concerning an oil leakage problem.*mr(nar)

Was driving vehicle when oil warning light came on. Stopped & checked vehicle & noticed nothing amiss. Drove vehicle home & checked again after putting oil in engine. Noticedoil leaking out because seal had popped off. Took vehicle to repair shop & mechanic knew what the problem was. Had the seal replaced & a retaining clip placed on it.

My 1993 honda accord will continuously hesitate to respond to gasoline around 60 mph or at 1500 or 2500 rpms, this is listed in technical service bulletin: 603961. This problem happens every day. The car will also stall out at slow speeds or idle. No mechanic has been able to successfully diagnose this problem. I took my car into the dealer to address this problem and they literally laughed at me when i asked if they could fix it for free. This is absurd since this problem affects my safety.

When driving at 35 mphbalancing shaft seal fell out fromengine block which caused excessive amount of oil to leak. Also,a recall due to same problem, this vehicle not included.the oil leak damaged the engine belts.

Oil pan plug hole is stripped, and causing oil to leak. This can lead to a fire if contacted to a ignition source. Dealer notified.

On this vehicle the engine balance shaft oil seal dislodges, potently causing an underhood fire or the engine to seize.on a manual transmission vehicle this could results in a loss of control while driving.this failure is catastrophic, without any warning, resulting in a complete loss of engine oil into the environment.complete oil loss occurs in approximately about 3 minutes.again, the possible safety problems are engine fire and seizure. Minor complications are the requirement of new or remanufactured engine. This problem is also documented in a service bulletin: service bulletin number:961001b / bulletin sequence no.:46 / nhtsa item no.: sb049981

Came to a stop & vehicle was vibrating. Took vehicle to a dealership & problem could not be solved. Took to another dealership & mechanic noticed rear motor mount was broken. Mechanic replaced the rear motor mount & not the front ones.replacement part same as original, same problem could reoccur. *ml

On two occasions, my honda accord developed an oil leak without any warning from a defective oil seal. My car became inoperable and was towed for repairs. I called saccucci honda to see if the work was covered by warranty and was told that it wan't. I also own a 1994 honda accord and that car is being recalled for the same problem.

No safety defect listed in summary, and no component given. Consumer states that the balance shaft seal is failing, causing loss of all engine oil, after repair found out about recall repair only for the 1994-1997 models.

The engine oil light came on and there was smoke in the engine compartment. I pulled over to a garage, and found out that the the engine oil had completely leaked because of a defective main oil seal. Contacted the american honda motor who stated that they have recalled the 1994 and onward models because of the defective oil seal problem but have not yet recalled the 1993 model. The engine can suddenly seize because of the defective engine balance shaft oil seal and there is a potential for a fire in the engine compartment.

Believe failure of distributor while vehicle in motion caused the oil pump to stop functioning and resulted in lack of oil pressure and resulting in engine camshaft (lack of oiling) breaking and destroying cylinder head and engine, resulting in total engine replacment.

I left my home and drove past about 8 othe houses when my oil light started flashing.i immediately returned home and parked in the garage.a trail of oil was in my driveway and a puddle of oil formed in the garage.i had my car towed to baierl honda who told me i needed new engine seals.i have since learned that honda has a "product campaign" telling some owners of honda accords about this very problem (balancer shaft oil seal)and telling them to get it repaired at a dealer or if they already had the problem, to get reimbursement from honda.my friend got this letter.his is a 94 honda, mine a 93.baierl tells me my year is not covered, however, i noticed in your technical bulletin data base thatnhtsa item number sbo49981 was issued on this problem for both 1993 and 1994 hondas.i also noticed in your complaint data base on 1993 hondas, that there are other complaints with this exact problem.i was fortunate in that i got home before the oil completely ran out.others who have filed complaints with you were not so fortunate, incurring serious engine damage.this seems to be a long known problem wit hondas and i feel honda should reimburse me just as they are those with 94s and higher. I have the exact same problem.it is a serious engineering defect that clearly started before 1994.it cost me $521.68 to repair this.now i have a quarter size leak of oil every morning that never exisited prior to this incident and the dealer claims there is nothing wrong.the dealer also says that 1993 hondas did not have this problem, but since there is a technical bulletin, he is clearly in the dark if not lying.i have tried to contact honda america but each time i do, i am told the call volume is high and to call back later and then i am cut off.i asked baierl honda to contact honda on my behalf and they told me they could not.i would appreciate anything you can do to assist me in recovering my money for this problem which is clearly known by honda.

Warped oil cooler causes oil to leak around oil filter. *dsh

The contact owns a 1993 honda accord.while driving 60 mph, the engine stalled in the middle of the highway.the dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for repair.he has not yet taken the vehicle to the dealer.a different mechanic diagnosed the cause of failure as the igniter.the current mileage is 99,000 and failure mileage was 80,000.

1993 accord began to lose power while driving.stopped car. Oil check found no oil on the dipstick. Garage stated that balance shaft seal had blown out. Learned that there was a recall for this beginning with 1994 models. A retaining ring was available to prevent this, but no notification of it was provided.

I had called premier honda in albuquerque, new mexico and asked one of their parts and service department. The gentleman to whom i spoke to stated that a recall had not been madeas of yet. He also stated that he had worked on several honda accords "1993" with the same problems. He advised me to save any receipts for future reference.

Recall was issued for this same problem for 1994 and newer accords with this same engine.my vehicle is a 1993 model.the recall does not apply.i am out 600 bucks.is honda going to reimburse me?no safety defect mentioned.

This happened to both of the 1993 honda accord lx cars we own.both cars were and are driven by different drivers.please see#702495 for information on the other car.both cars are 5 speed.

Catastrophic oil leak caused by known failure of balancer shaft seal. Engine replacement will cost $3500- i was going to sell the car two days from now.last month, another known failure of the igniter left me stranded.

Dealer did not reveal all defects with the vehicle upon purchase. No safety defect listed.

Balance shaft seal leaking caused damage on timing and all other belts. Yh

Believe failure of distributor while vehicle in motion caused the oil pump to stop functioning and resulted in lack of oil pressure and resulting in engine camshaft (lack of oiling) breaking and destroying cylinder head and engine, resulting in total engine replacment.

The garage where i had the car repaired said they had repaired other 1993 honda cars with the same problem.i would not have bothered to report this, but also happened to the other 1993 h0nda accord that we own.i believe this is a serious safety defect, which could result in serios injuries or death if the engine runs out of oil on an interstate and the engine seizes up.my son was smart enough to push the ctutch pedal in and turn the engine off.

In extreme hot weather conditions, the vehicle experiences a no start situation. Consumer afraid problem may occur when driving vehicle.consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer unable to determine the cause of the problem.

All oil drained from engine in seconds.balance/counter shaft front oil seal blew out.dt

This failure has occured twice,a seal around the crank case popped out allowing the oil to run out onto all the belts.this happened both times while the vehicle was being driven.please describe details.

Balance shaft recall in place for 1994-1997 honda accords my vehicle 1993 honda accord. Letter being mailed to american honda p.o. Box 2964, torrance ca 90509. Was informed by dawn at corporatehonda did not recall 1993 because not enough incidents were filed for this failure.was directly advised by courtney honda to have vehicle serviced at acura and take up the problem with corporate.one 12/04/02 starting vehicle in drive way, all fluid emptied out of vehicle.no warning lights every went on when system emptied.was advised by courtney to tow vehicle in. Aaa towed vehicle 12/04/02 to acura(affaliated with honda) was told if under extended recall warranty they would get vehicle to courtney. Was iformed by honda recall for this problem covers only 1994-1997 honda accords, i would have to reuest a good will consideration from corporate. I was advised to have the vehicle serviced where it was and address corporate. I lost everything, water pump, timing belts, internal vehicle soaked with oil. I have done every maintence on this vehicle and beyond. I had the 90,000 mile done on oct 14, at courtney and was told it was in excellent condition it would last double the mileage because i care for it so well. If this had happened while driving we could have gotten killed or hurt. We feel honda 1993 accord should be included in the recall on record.note again please there was no warning what so ever the vehicle was to empty out. The service was done at acura of milford 203 877 4333 scott pala note on invoice: find balance shaft seal to have fallen out, need to replace balance shaft seal, install retainer kit and replace timing belt, water pump, balancer belt and drive beltsmay be covered under honda warranty (which is not as stated) they also replaced the oil filter housing gasket. Records avail from dealer. I thank you for any assistance you can give us in getting this added to the present recall. Patricia a.and philip novak 10 woodridge road, west haven, ct.dt

Balance shaft seal failed.seal retainer not applied at time of timing belt replacement by gentile in 1999.this is gross incompetence.

1 i don't know exactly want it is but my timing are always wearing out.so i just want to know want i can do to fix it. 2 engine idle is unstableengine is racing when the gas is not been touched . Took off timing belt cover to find that the belt is worn, replaced timing belt twice.

-the contact was driving on a snowy day at 20 mph and the oil light started to blink rapidly on the dashboard of her 1993 honda accord. She pulled off the road and found that there was no oil in the vehicle. The contact put in four quarts of oil and notice a leak.about an hour after the incident she check the oil again and found that it was empty again. She poured another quart of oil in the vehicle and drove it to a mechanic shop half a block away and they told her it was the balance shaft seal needed to be replaced that this was a common problem on hondas manufactured during the same period. The repair cost $750.00.honda stated that this failure was not a under recall. The contact believes that if the failure is a known manufacturingdefect and the manufacturer should be responsible.

The muffler is rusted through, the paint on the bumper by the taillights is rusted and chipping off.i was never rearender.my driver window won't go down, because the switch went out.the other windows stick but are ok for now.the trunk leaks constantly when it rains, i have tried to seal it but it didn't work.my master cylinder just went out and my brakes were not working properly.

Air conditioner condenser failures.

I was in an accident on saturday 1/13/2001 there was major damage to the front of my honda accord that the radiator was moved the hood was smashed toward window, butdriver's air bag didnt come out should it have popped out?and when i plug something into my cigarette lighter it makes a flicker like wires are not connected right should i be concerned?????

-the contact has a 1993 honda accord with an odometer reading of 175000 miles who's rear passenger side seat belt doesn't retract, and the headlights have low visibility. The contact stated that when he pulled the seat belt around his child seat the webbing would not retract. The contact stated that the seat belt has not retracted since and the dealer would not cover the seat belt repair cost. The contact also stated that he has changed all the bulbs in his headlights but he still has very low visibly and is experiencing the same problems as in recall (06e023000). The contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer, but they would not cover the repairs under the recall.

Turned the headlights on.the headlights went out while traveling down the road in complete darkness.they came on for a short time and went out, again.they stayed out.luckily i was only traveling at 25 mph and wasn't too far from the house.i feel this is a serious failure.

The car gives repeated starting problems, particularly if it is parked under the sun.after several attempts at fixing, finally i went to a mechanic who says he has several customers with similar problems with honda accords, and he suspects it is a vapor lock problem in the fuel line and advised me not to spend more money on it.his suggestion to open the gas cap helps most of the time when this happens.but sometimes, this lets some gas out through the top as soon as the gas cap is removed.

Distributor problems.

Used engine keeps failingalso bad mechanics in the area including honda dealership over priced features for repairs. Always idling too high with no check engine light or proper emissions explaining oil light reasons?

We have a 93 honda accord ex.recently the locking mechanism in the driver's front door stopped working.apparently a lot of people have had this problem and spent hundreds of dollars for the repair.the car was not in an accident nor has it ever sustained any damage to that door.now you cannot open the driver's door from the inside or the outside.this is a severe safety hazard.until this happened, we have never heard of anything like this happening to any vehicle regardless of its age.i do think that it is a defect in the locking mechanism.the details on how it stopped working follows - one snowy day we opened the door to get in.no problem.we then proceeded to start the car and opened the door once again to scrape the exterior windows.the door was shut properly (not slammed).after scraping the windows, we went to open the driver's door and it would not work.please take whatever steps to make this a recall retroactive back for those who already paid to have it fixed.*nlm

Failure on the passenger side door, door will not open from the outside or the inside of the vehicle.

The latch housing of the doors developed a crack. As a result, the doors were difficult to open because they did not unlock fully.both front doors housing were replaced. The dealership indicated that this was a common problem with these vehicles and a consumer service representative stated that since this was anexpensive part to replace they feltit was inconvenient to replace it.10 other accord owners that experienced the same failure on one or more door handles and plates on the interior.(4 door latch/plate were cracked and replaced twice) *sc

When trying to open the passenger's side front door, sometimes the door will not release from door latch. Please describe.

Driver's door locks are inoperativ.door cannot be opened from the inside or outside. Please provide further information.

Rear seat lock inoperative will not lock or unlock.

Front driver's and front pasenger's doors do not open withkey. Dealer has been notified.

I have a 1993 honda accord wgn. My drivers door will not open from the inside nor the outside. The locks are working fine it appears to be a defective door latch!! i consider this a safety issue, because if i was in an accident i would not be able to get out very easily. The least honda should do is put out a bulletin requiring how to fix or remedy the problem. Maybe even have the dealer do the repair??thank youwilliam d darby

Everytime when its raining the doors isn't lock/unlock with the keys normally after the heating of engine (maybe 15 minutes) the second speed not work normally (mine it's manually) it's scratch my hearing.

I am the owner of a bodyshop that repaired a 1993 honda accord with some light front end damage. During the course of the repair , we noticed that the striker of the existing hood was loose. The striker is what the latch hooks on to to keep the hood closed. The hood with the loose striker was not damaged in the current crash, but was replaced some time before. It turns out that the hood was an aftermarket hood not made by honda. I replaced the hood for the customer with a factory honda hood at no charge to the customer. Would you be interested in inspecting the aftermarket hood? i realize this is a hot topic after the state farm vertict several months ago. I can see no signs of stress in the metal where the striker pulled out. It was never crimped down at the factory. This hood probably would have blown up on the highway someday causing the driver to become blinded because the hood is over the windsheild. This is a prime example of what concerns the bodyshop industry concerning aftermarket parts. Please let me know what you think. Thank you for your time! jim champion.

Transmissionlock up .tt

Was told by dealer that car was out of warranty and would have to pay for a new transmission.the cost for the new transmission is $3,000.00.we only had 80,000 miles on our accord when the transmission went bad.we really expected the transmission would last longer than 80,000.

Driver side interior door handles fail continuously.

Dear sir:over the course of several months both rear windows developed a clicking noise.when a mechanic investigated, he reported that the takeup reels in the cable assemblies were defective.upon contacting the dealer, he was quoted a price for the part in excess of $250.00 per unit.this seems quite excessive considering we do not have small children who might play with the windows. In fact, these two windows received only nominal use during the time we have owned this vehicle. According to the machenic who normally inspects our car, there is a requirement in pa that rear windows, where so equiped, must function during the yearly inspection.if so, then this seems like some sort of design flaw since the rear window movement in our vehicle has not been excessive.

Was my vehicle in a police operation in the past and giving back in return?
