I am the second owner of the 1992 honda accord.i have experienced automatic transmission failure on this vehicle that will generally require overhaul or replacement of the transmission. After several on-line researches on honda accords 1990 to date, i find numerous problems, i.e., acceleration failure. When engine gets hot, the car has acceleration failure. Even further research reveals ?certified transmission mechanics revealed that this known premature automatic transmission failure is due to an engineering design flaw.in addition, ?this design flaw consists of the honda accord automatic transmission not having outside access to the metal screen internal transmission filter which becomes clogged with gunk and metal shavings, thus starving the transmission, which causes overheating, and further deterioration and premature automatic transmission failure.?there is no way to gain access to the metal automatic transmission filter because there is no transmission pan to unbolt and allow access. Complete disassemble of the transmission is required.this serious transmission problem will be reported to the u.s. Government national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) declaring the transmission problem is a major safety hazard.
Abs lite came on,i would like to know if there is any warranty on this.
The car is got some electrical shorts in the wire my maintenance said, and now it has a problem shifting into all the gears, it stalls when you go to take off, it don't seem like it has any power behind it. It happens every time you go to take off it stalls.

A faulty transmission control unit, caused the vehicle to at random shift in to an improper gear or into neutral at or during take off from stop.this resulted in loss of power when trying to join traffic, or once already in traffic.tcu would also fail to lock or unlock t/c when it was designed to.on one occasion the tcu locked the t/c at a stop light, stalling the engine in traffic.tcu failed to alert the driver of a problem through the d4 or check engine lamps, and produced non existent codes when put into diagnostic mode.
Horn is designed poorly which has caused several close calls because i was unable to honk my horn at a crucial time. Instead of being able to press the center of the steering wheel to honk the horn, there are two small buttons at the 9 and 3 position that appear to be positioned to press with your thumb- if your handsare at the 9 & 3 position. In an emergent situation, the first inclination is to hit the middle of the steering wheel to activate the horn, not to search for either of the two little horn buttons. In the latest incident, i had the right of way on a left turn arrow, a car going straight went through the red light and nearly broadsided me. I was pounding all over the steering wheel because i couldn't find the horn.

Distributor housing should last at least 150,000-300,000 miles.unable to afford repair and stuck at home. Can't even pick up needed medications. I took vehicle to dealer when i received the extended warrenty in 1996, wouldn't replace dist housing because appeared normal. Now is bad and won't fix because warrenties are too restrictive.please help. Should be a recall.

Distributor bearing failure caused very erratic engine problems, sometimes mis-diagnosed as dirty fuel, or injectors dirty, etc. Honda refuses to go good for rembursement of any amount! rebuild unit runs approx. $230.00 plus labor.
Cleaning out my glove compartment, after this incident occurred,i found a honda warrenty extension for distributor assembly. My first failure occured3/17 98at 73,000 miles and my second failurehappened on 11/09/99 at 97,622.this is a very dangerous situation, especially the second time.my wife and i are on a heavy travelled street, the car engine stops while driving on a hill with a blind curve right behind us,andangel helped us get the car to start to get to safety. I will be contacting honda right after i am done here,to see if i can getrefunded the moneyi spendfor the repairs since i forgot about the warrenty.i did not take it tomy dealer,i took it to my mehcanic who i have happily had for the last 10 years. Vehicle was parked and was unable to turn key in ignition.
Engine will not start (even turn over) when the temperature in the interior of the car gets too hot. This occurs on all hot days. I currently have to leave all the windows completely down, the sunroof cracked (hot air rises), and my silver sunshade on the outside of my windshield so that no sun can even penetrate the windshield glass. If i don't do this, i will be stuck where ever i'm parked until sun down. If car won't start, i have to open all doors including hatchback and wait for interior cabin temperature to cool down.

1992 honda accord ex with 149380 miles. Traveling along highway at 60 mpg at 0545 in the morning car then dies in traffic. Able to coast to the right and stopped until wrecker showed up.weather was 16 degrees and car was running great until then. At the dealer, notice the hood was burnt. Service person stated it was a bad wire in the coil and/or ignition. Replaced wires, coil, ignition,breather tube. I was lucky. I noticed several other people had the same issue so i'll voice my concern about the 92 coil/ignition fires on-line. Used parts were burned. 92 honda is a great car except with this issue.

I used to own a firebird, but i had to trade it in for a bigger car cause my 2 year old was getting to big for the back seat.i found this car place and went in and met with the owner, told him i didn't want a piece of crap car because i have a daughter to look out for, since i have had the car it has been nothing but money and problems.the car i traded in for had no problems.he had told me that the car was in great shape, it had new tires, and brakes, and it runs great.since then i have had to replace the muffler, new tires, new brakes, defroster does not work, need a radiator, i'm a single parent with low income i can't afford to fix the car everytime something goes wrong.

The oil seal failed without warning while traveling.all of the oil in car drained out.i had the car towed to a service station where i had the oil seal replaced, as well as the timing belt as a result of oil saturation on the belt.i contacted, honda on september 21, 2000 , because a recall was issued for 93-95 accords as a result of an oil seal problem. Honda's customer service representative informed me that the recall did not apply to my model year.i understand that tsb 9610001b relates to this problem on 1992 honda accords and wish to report this failure and honda's inaction in response to nhtsa.

The oil gasket/seals failed and there was an oil leak that resulted in the replacement of the timing belt, air conditioning belt, and the power steering belt.

Severe engine vibration, steering wheel and dashboard shake, very distracting, and concerned that damage could result to some components from this shaking.just had 90000 mile service done.asked if the shaking had gone away.mechanic said that the engine is ok, however, the shaking is common on this year accord (1992).when asked how it could be fixed, he said it was likely a motor mount problem, possibly the one with fluid in it. He said this can develop as the engine "settles" or something like that.i said that this is strange since my 1986 accord never developed this problem.might this be a manufacturing defect?thank you.

The locking mechanism in the driver's side door on my 92 honda accord is broken and will not allow the door to open from the inside or the outside.i consider this to be a safety concern.in order to get out of my car, i have to crawl/climb to the passenger side of the car and exit the car that way.if i needed to exit my car in an emergency, say a fire in my car, it would take me more time to get into the passenger seat and then exit the car than if i could just open my driver's side door.please look into this matter and consider this as a recall.i have done some research on the internet and have seen several other people that have had this same issue.i contacted honda about getting this repaired and it would cost $250+ for the part and then labor would be $72 per hour and it would take 2.5 hours to fix it.that does not include my local taxes.this may not seem like it is too much to get it fixed but for a guy with a family of 5 and only one income, it is allot of money.thank you for your time.

I do not remember the exact date or mileage but am fairly close.i was told by sims that this was a common problem with '92 accords--the door latch refuses to open and has to be drilled costing $520.i was carrying a 5 gal can of gas that i heard tip in the trunk.i was at a stop light and went to hop out fast to check but could not get out.i called honda again and asked if there was a recall.again they said i would have to pay and it was a common problem.i have injured my knees and disc trying to get in and out.i cannot afford to pay for this and it is dangerous.if it weren't a common problem, i would not say anything, but if it is common, something should have been done about it, don't you think?

D4 light comes on and stays on for 10 minutes. Transmission hunts for gears at cruising speeds without warning, often landing no gear, causing a scary scenario.a web search revealed thousands of complaints by 1989 to 1993 owners of that model honda accord who are having the same problem. It is supposedly a failure of the transmission computer. Honda dealers have no safety or maintenance recall/bulletin on this issue. They offer to replace the tcm (guess that is the computer) for $570.00 plus labor!several hundreds of thousands of these years' models were sold and are on the road. If a computer failure puts the driver and the traffic at danger because the car chooses a different gear or no gear, the manufacturer should fix the damaged computer component or whatever the failed component. Since such sheer numbers are involved the nhtsa should investigate the matter independently.

I used to own a firebird, but i had to trade it in for a bigger car cause my 2 year old was getting to big for the back seat.i found this car place and went in and met with the owner, told him i didn't want a piece of crap car because i have a daughter to look out for, since i have had the car it has been nothing but money and problems.the car i traded in for had no problems.he had told me that the car was in great shape, it had new tires, and brakes, and it runs great.since then i have had to replace the muffler, new tires, new brakes, defroster does not work, need a radiator, i'm a single parent with low income i can't afford to fix the car everytime something goes wrong.

In an emergent situation, the first inclination is to hit the middle of the steering wheel to activate the horn, not to search for either of the two little horn buttons. In the latest incident, i had the right of way on a left turn arrow, a car going straight went through the red light and nearly broadsided me. I was pounding all over the steering wheel because i couldn't find the horn.

My husband and i purchased tires from ntb in march 2000 and in june 2000, two tires were replaced because they were defective.now, we are faced with defective tires again (the tread is separating from the steel belts).my husband returned to ntb today to be told that it would cost him $100 to replace the defective tires (i.e., the cost of the tires, balancing, stem, labor, etc., minus a credit for tire wear.these tires have a 35,000 mile warranty and we apparently have used them for 23,000 miles.this is ntb's standard operating procedure).these are not firestone tires, but formula gt tires (we are attempting to determine the manufacturer of the tire).we are disgusted with ntb.they show a complete disregard for consumer safety.this is amazing in light of the current situation with firestone.the first time this happened we fought with them in order to get the tires replaced without cost.of course, we still had to pay for the alignment.today they were absurd.my husband tried to contact sears while he was in ntb, but their customer service department merely placed him back in touch with the store manager who maintained his position.most business' would recognize the problem and take care of the customer without question.from a business standpoint, it is more cost effective to keep an existing customer than to attract a new one.i'm sure the marketing department spends a lot more than $100.00 to attract customers to its stores.my husband is in the process of trying to reach the office of the president and the manufacturer of the tire.we are not asking for anything unreasonable.we simply want the defective tires removed from the car and new tires of equal to or better quality placed on the car without further cost to ourselves.we are tired of dealing with these people and their poor customer service and complete disregard for our personal safety while driving on a product they sell.we thought that you would be interested to know that.

Front passenger side window runs slowly; inspite of being lubed ---- rear passenger lock actuators moved slowly or not at all and both had to be replaced ---- car stalled out on the highway at about 50mph 3 times one day b/f i could get it to the dealership; once it had stalled out, it was very hard to start; dealer replaced the ignition switch ---- car wouldn't start in hot humid weather; main relay was replaced ---- while sitting on flat terrain and not moving, i would watch the needle on thefuel guage fluctuate by up to 3/4 of a tank; dealer replaced the fuel sending unit; the unit was replaced twice total, the second time it was still under warranty
