Air bag failed on crash

3 car collision - vehicle was hit from behind by a car going 60 mph and shoved into the back of another car that was at a complete stop. Driver seatbelt did not restrain and the airbags failed to deploy.

It should be written into lawthat all cars have at least front & side air bags.

Driver's side sun visor became loose and now stays in a down position and swings freely.was told to visit junk yard to find a functional visor (whole unit has to be replaced).this incident occurred 5 years ago.the windshield sun visor is a big issue since it obstructs my vision (especially at night) and since it is so annoying, i've removed it.now i have serious safety concerns when the sun is shining brightly directly in front of me when i'm driving.approximately 8 years ago the driver's side rear side window quit working. I had the motor replaced, but it did not resolve the problem - it won't go up the entire way.about 5 years ago the front driver's side - side window stopped going down all the way.again, i had the motor replaced, but it still won't go down without hesitation and stops at the halfway point. The engine warning light came on permanently approximately 7 years ago and i've had 3 repair shops tell me they cannot get it to turn off.now i don't know when i'm having an issue.currently, i keep smelling a burningrubber smell, but no issues w/radiator are present.not sure if the 'check engine light' would have alerted me to a problem, but i do count on my instrument panel warning lights to warn me of issues i wouldn't be aware of since i'm no mechanic.i purchased a honda due to their safety records and durability and counted on keeping my car as long as possible.i'm now having to reconsider purchasing a car in the next year and as much as i was able to depend on my honda, i'm strongly considering a different car make (not a honda).

My automatic seat belt on the drivers side stopped retracting, and now the seatbelt light flashes and warning bell keeps beeping. Even when i have the seat belt fastened. I called my local honda dealer. The service department told me it was not covered under the warranty, but i have the warranty and it says it is covered. When i told them that, i was told i could bring the car in and pay to determine if it is covered. But they say only the belt buckle is covered. My warranty states the whole system is covered. It was larry miller honda in boise idaho that i called.

The contact owns a 1991 honda accord. While driving approximately 20 mph, the seat belt light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that an electrical failure caused the seat belt light to turn on. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 123,382 and the current mileage was approximately 123,800. Updated 01/13/11updated 01/24/11

Seat belt retractor on driver-side only will not move from retracted position as if door is open at all times after sensor on dashboard malfunctioned temporarily.as a result, lap belt is only available resulting in lack of safety for driver. *nlm

My 'check engine' light comes on while i am driving and the car jerks, or if it happens while the car is idling the car stalls.it the light is on i have to shift before the rpm 's get to 3500 or the car shakes and looses power.when the light is off the car runs fine.i can only drive about 10 miles before the light comes on.the light comes on either when i start the car or shortly after everytime i drive the car.

The fire damaged wiring mainly on the driverside wheel well. Also burnt many electrical devices, the poweresteering resivour , cruise control dighfram, windowwasher bottle.i have heard of many stories of simmilar fires on at least six or seven vehicles. The driver's side door will not open from the inside or the outside.please describe.

Driver's door could not be opened from inside nor fromoutside of vehicle.door had to be repairedbecause consumer had to exit and enter vehicle through passenger'sdoor.

When attempting to exit fromvehicle driver's side door lock would not unlatch, causing the occupant to be locked inside the vehicle.consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer notedthat lock has disintegrated, causing the problem.the door latch malfunctionedspontaneously.

Why has north american honda not issued a recall of all honda door failures ? according to our mechanic, there has been thousands of the very same door lock failures across the united states. We spent over $600.00 dollars to get our door cut off, so tha it could have the internal parts replaced, so that we could open the door normally. What would have happend if it occured during an accident, and then we could not open the door to exit the vehicle, what if because of the failing we had died ? what then, would north american honda issue a recall then ? is that the price it takes to get somebody to notice the obvious and blatant disregard that honda has for it's customers and the safety of all americans who drive these death traps just waiting to happen? i demand a recall!, before someone dies, all because a greedy corporation was unwilling to rectifya fault clearly of their own making, and too callous to care about the lives and safty of american drivers.

Driver's door will not open even if pushing or pulling from either side. Dealer contacted and aware of problem. Problem still exists. Provide further informtion.

Driver door is unable to open door from either side dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Consumer attempted to get out of driver door and the door would not open.she had to climb over the console and go out passenger side.when she went around to open the door from the outside she found the door would not open. She went to the honda dealer who told her this was a universal problem with this year and model and gave her a print out of how to fix the door, which is quite complex, but would save her $600.00 to do the work herself.she had 2 small children in the their car seats in the back and this could be a very deadly situation should she have an accident or fire and need to exit the car or get access to her children immediately.

Both driver/passenger side door locking systemhas failed, making doors inoperative.

Drivers side door suddenly locked closed, an internal component inside the door is broken. The door will not open from the interior or the exterior. Should there be a collision on the passenger side, the driver will be locked in.

Many complaints on the door latch/assem. Why hasn't it been recalled?

The door lock on passenger's side is jammed.the door will not open from the inside or outside, cannot open door with key. Dealer stated that the mechanism in the lock needs replacing.

Driver side door will not open from inside or outside. I had to exit car over the console on passenger side. Afraid to be trapped in car during accident or fire in car.

While riding along the highway passenger's door becomes shaky, owner feels that passenger's door may come open while door is being closed tightly and locked.

When i attempted to exit my vehicle through my driver side door, it was impossible to open from the inside or the outside. Until i had the $600 for the repair, i was forced to enter my vehicle through the passenger side. I am a full-time student, working a full-time job, living in a busy world. It was quiteembarassing, an inconvienience, and anincredible safety hazard. Before visiting this site, i thought this problem was a strange misfortune only i suffered. This is the most common defect listed; not to mention the most expensive repair. If this defect is not worthy of a recall, we need to re-think the "recall standards" and put realistic measures into the process. My car door should have been repaired and paid for by honda, especially because i am one in enough with the exact same defective car. When i purchased a big name computer and realized there was a defect in the system, it was repaired with no charge to me. The company i am employed by will take full financial responsibility for a defect in a product we have issued. If we ignored issues such as mine with my honda accord, we would not be the magnificent company that we are. When the driver's side door was permanently shut, i had no way of entry other than the door my passengers/clients used. Entering and exiting my vehicle was an obscenity as i would try my hardest to remain the professional female that i am.i was always in fear that a car would plow into the passenger side of the vehicle leaving me trapped in whatever emergency would arise. Please examine this defect and demand a recall to prevent future disasters and to assure the safety of honda accord drivers. *la

One day i went to get out of my car and the door just would not open. I had to crawl out of the passenger side. The door will not open with the key, and it cannot be opened from the inside or outside. The cost of replacing the latch is approximately $700. One would think that honda would recall this problem, considering it's such a safety hazard.all it would take is one crash to the passenger side and i would be trapped in my vehicle! *la

Drivers door failed to open from outside or inside.had to climb over stick shift to get out of vehicle.when checking with local honda dealership, they said they fix an average of two a week.while i was able to climb out, elderly or weight challenged would have a difficult time.honda has not considered this a recall situation.

Driver's-side door latch just failed and the door was jammed shut. This is the only case of a door latch just failing in any vehicle that i or any of my family/friends have ever owned.this cost over $700 to repair (since the door was jammed shut)and although honda has unofficial documents about the drilling (from the inside) procedure to release the jammed latch, they have no official document relating to this.when i contacted the local dealership, and subsequently the regional service manager, i was basically told "sorry, your car is past the warranty" - end of story. From the reports i have seen on this web site and in talking with a local honda mechanic, it turns out that there have been numerous failures of this type.this leads me to believe that the original door latch design is defective, since i have never owned any car (of any age) or even heard of a car (besides the accord reports i got from this web site and the local honda mechanic) where the door latch just failed.i believe that this represents a major safety hazard, since if the latch mechanism is prone to failure without any outside influence, then that mechanism will be much more likely to fail in the event of a crash, jamming the driver's side door shut and preventing easy exit from the vehicle.i believe that the honda corporation should be compelled to correct this deficiency by replacing the faulty door latch mechanisms, or at least offering to compensate those individuals who have had to spend what i believe to be an inordinate sum of money to repair a manufacturing defect.it has taken me nearly a year to get around to writing this, and i would be willing to bet that for each person who files a complaint with the nhtsa there are hundreds more who don't know about your agency or don't have the time to file a report. Thank you.

After closing driver's door it locked. Consumer was unable to unlock door with key.

The vehicle doors jammed and the door handles broke.the dealer has been contacted. *nlm

The driver's side seat belt does not retract. Also the driver side door lock will not release, have to go in the passenger's side to enter the vehicle.

Speedometer is not working properly. While driving vehicle speedometer drops to zero. Driver can not tell speed when driving. Please describe details.tt

I was not told at the time of purchase this vehicle had a salvaged title. Therefore leading to many many problems with it. There was a defected part put on that was old and rusted, and should have never been there, thus leading to near fatal accidents. I would like to warn everyone who in the future is purchasing an automobile (used) please check out the carfax report on it first since car dealers won't tell you first. This was my last mistake i'll make in buying a used car. I don't think its fair or legal that they get away with this.thank you.

Driver's side automatic seat belt failure at 16k miles.tt

Consumer was involved ina 30 mph collision in which the motorized shoulder belt did not lockupon impact, resulting in an injury.

The automatic seat belt on the passenger side fails to retract therefore causing unsafe driving conditions. Due to this defect it also causes a dash seat belt warning light to blink and constant alarm to sound. Another part of this situation is that honda has a lifetime seat belt warranty that states: "honda will repair or replace, at its option, any honda seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use. This warranty includes parts and labor charges." yet when i asked to have my problem fixed they said that the "seat belt motor" is not a "seat belt component" and it is an "electrical component". However, when the part is searched for on all dealers sites it is listed under seat belt components and in the seat belt parts diagram as #12, part #81831-sm4-a03.

Seat belt recall repair delayed because dealer does not have parts.

For the past 8 years, both the driver's and front passenger's shoulder seatbelts simultaneously behave erratically.several times a year, the front shoulder belts have done all of the following, then hours or days later returned to normal. -----(a) failed to disengage when car stopped and door opened, and remain permanently engaged for several hours or several days. -----(b) failed to engage when i entered and started the car, then remaining permanently unengaged for several hours or days. -----(c). Disengaged while i drove the car, sending the shoulder belt over my arm. ----- when the seat belt remains disengaged,i must either push the shoulder belt behind the steering wheel or disconnected it.after a few years of this, the mechanism ceased beeping, and the dummy light ceased lighting for this problem. -----honda told me these seat belt problems are not covered by warranty.three years later, i was told the seat belt control unit was the problem and would cost $730.numerous other people have seen the same problem, and because of the high $700cost discuss how to disable various parts of the seat belt system, http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-accord/toe3qolcur8bqtb4p.

The automatic seat belt on my driver side is stuck in the forward position. The passenger side belt works just fine, just not the driver side. This happened after i had my distributor replaced and when i started my car up, it wouldn't work.

Vehicle was at complete stop impact 6:00 position lap/shoulder belt over retract trapping the driver in the seat.tt

The contact owns a 1991 honda accord. The contact stated that the driver side seat belt failed to retract and expand. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shoulder restraint failed and the seat belt retractor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case on the contact's behalf. The approximate failure mileage was 229,000.

Seatbelt warning light and chime suddenly started to activate even when the seatbelts are connected.this occurs every time the car is in use. I don't know how to fix this problem or what parts to replace.

The contact owns a 1991 honda accord lx. The contact stated that when the brakes were depressed, the rear seat belt restraint failed to operate. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 216,000.

The front passenger side automatic seat belt on my 1991 honda accord lx suddenly stopped working.i talked to a service mechanic at the honda dealership and he said that the lifetime warranty on seat belts dd not cover automatic seat belts.it is my understanding that a lapbelt alone is not enough to protect a passenger in the event of a collision.currently i can not afford the cost that they quoted for repair and i am driving the car without a functional seat belt.

The driver side automatic retractable seat belt restraint is currently stuck in the forward position by the window and will not retract. We have taken the car for a diagnostic check to verify that it needs replaced. The part is supposed to be covered under the lifetime seatbelt warranty but we are having continued issues getting something done. They have told us they can't locate a part, that they aren't "sure" if it's covered, and have basically brushed us off.

I have a 1991 honda accord and the automatic seat belt light flashes with the alarm beeping. When i open either door the sound and blinking will stop, but continue again when i close the doors and begin driving.

I have a 1991 honda accord ex and my seat belt reactors never works like its supposed to! i went to the honda place here in cartersville and they told me that seat belts for my car isn't covered and i know seat belts are apart of a lifetime warranty. Im not gonna pay $110 jus for them to look at it and tell me why its not working, just fix the [xxx] thing!! this is a safety issue for alot of hondas that's in the 90's.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Automatic seatbelt stopped working on 91 honda accord. Took it to honda & was told the lifetime warranty on electrical part of the seat belt is not applicable. That makes no sense because without that i have no seat belt making the car unsafe to drive & i don't have $400 dollars to replace it. Honda should have specified this when making these cars because this is not living up to there responsibility to make safe automobiles.

The front seat belts in my car are the automatic shoulder belts.the seat belt alert light on the dashboard and the seat belt alarm began going off, even though the seat belt appeared to be working properly.after several weeks of this happening off and on, the driver's side seat belt would not move into the "on" position when the car was started and the warning light and buzzer are always on.

The contact owns a 1991 honda accord.the contact stated that the automatic seat belt on the driver's side failed.the seat belt will not retract back to secure him in the seat once the vehicle's door is shut.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but has not been inspected because the contact refuses to pay $90 for a diagnostic without the repair being included.the manufacturer stated that because the part was not covered under the warranty, no compensation would be provided.the failure mileage was 138,000 and current mileage was 145,000.updated 07/01/09updated 07/10/09. *updated 07/20/09

The seat belt shoulder restraint is locked in a retracted position.honda america says that only the buckle is warranteed for life and not any other portion of the system.my owners manual states that the seat belt is warranteed for the usable life of the automobile.

The motorized seat belts have malfunctioned occasionally since the purchase of the car.there is no pattern to the malfunction.the seat belts either fail to disengage when the car is stopped, or they fail to engage when the car is started.it seems to happen more frequently when there is a passenger, but not all the time.

The automatic seatbelt has gone forward and will not retract obstructing the steering wheel, and is just generally unsafe... This is supposed to be covered by a lifetime honda warranty but they refuse to honor it.

The approximate failure mileage was 202,000.

Seat belt warning light and warning buzzer sound continuously.passenger side shoulder seat belt remains locked in rear position and will not travel.honda refused to honor lifetime warranty on seat belt operation stating that these problems are "electronic" and not seat belt warranty issues.parts and labor to cure these problems estimated at in excess of $1,000.due expense, only solution is to disconnect seat belt warning system and disable passenger side shoulder belt.

The seat belt control module failed, the driver's side sliding seat belt is stuck in the forward position. The lifetime seat belt warranty covers the seat belt control module as it is a seat belt component.

The driver and passenger automatic shoulder beltswere stuck in the forward position.this caused the driver and passenger not to be restrained while driving.the cause of the problem had not been determined.

For no reason while driving, i checked to see if my seat belt was working.it wasn't.i then tried the passenger side where my 13 year old grandchild was, and it wasn't working either.(would not catch to hold a person in)went on the internet, and found others having the same problems.of course there were suggestions on bad fuses, or wiring.i called my dealer, and they said seat belts were checked with a jerk.yes, i asked if they were ever on recall, and he said only the back ones.i do have an appointment with the dealer to check them out, but if it is to expensive, there is no way.we purchased this vehicle new.when i find others on the internet are asking the same question, something is very wrong.i trust the service men who work at the dealers as far as i can throw them- - they get a commission for each item that is sold or worked on.

The problem i have with my accord, is that the motorized seat belts, will not tighten, when i would suddenly and quickly pull on it.it seems that this would be a major probelm, because, ifdo not use the supplemental seatbelts (the waist ones), then essentailly i would be driving without a seatbelt, or one that does not work.please look into this, and notify me if there is such a recall on this part of the car. Thank you!

The passive (motorized) seat belt in my car will not retract/operate. According to the honda vehicle warranty manual, it is covered under a lifetime warranty. Honda refuses to repair/replace my seat belt assembly. The exact statement from the warranty manual:"this warranty continues for the useful life of the car.""honda will repair or replace, at it's option, any honda seat belt assembly that fails to function properly during normal use. This includes all parts and labor charges."my local honda dealership service department told me that the door latch switch (a switch in the door that signals the computer that the door is closed, then retracts the shoulder belt) was bad and is not covered under warranty, only the belt and buckle were. I showed them this lifetime warranty that states that honda will repair/replace a seat belt assembly (could be anything that pertains to this type of seat belt design, warranty manual is not specific) that fails to function (it doesn't retract over occupant's shoulder when door is closed). Neither honda nor the dealership could show something in writing what the exact parts of a seat belt "assembly" are in this type of restraint system. This vehicle cannot be safely or legally driven until it is repaired.

Front and rear seat belts completely released.they failed to tighten when in use.

The driver's side seat belt does not retract. Also the driver side door lock will not release, have to go in the passenger's side to enter the vehicle.

Back seat belts do not lock.i have 2 small children who require a carseat and a booster seat.problem is not matter what kind of booster seat i purchase it does not work with these seatbelts in my 1991 honda accord.the law states i must put my 5 year old in a booster seat, and for his safety i want him in one, but it is unsafe for him to be in one because the seat belts never lock.i can pull on them and they don't immediately lock. This is seriously unsafe!i emergency retractable seatbelts are not safe. Please look into this matter.my five year old still uses his carseat since i can't use a booster seat in my car.(he is too big for the carseat now, so what do i do risk his life because of these faulty seatbelts.no, honda needs to replace these seat belts with locking seatbelts so my child can be safe!!*nlm

In cold weather the steering is hard to turn, once engine heats up problem subsides.

For no apparent reason the driver's side door jammed and would not open.driver had to enter vehicle on the passenger's side. The door was repaired in may of 97.

Drivers side latch failed and door cannot be opened from inside or outside of car.the onle entrance or exit is through the opposite side of car which is difficult; it would be impossible if injured.

Inside handle of the driver's side door is off, and the handle onpassenger's side is about to fall off also. Consumer says that plastic cracked, causing the handle to fall off.this could be a safety concern if consumer had to get out of the car immediately.

Door locks are automatically operating properly except that you can not open the door on driver side.obviously, the power lock on this side is also operating fine. I believe that the hook at the door lock was not able to release. This will cause safety problem seriously.

Metal above the right rear wheel wells is rusting and paint is coming off( dot number: tire size: hr7014r )

On the drivers side of the vehicle, a large rust spot is continuing to form directly above the rear wheel well. This spot has been increasing in size for several years. Excessive tire wear.

I bought 4 tires for my honda accord around summer 97, they had about 35,000 miles on them at this moment.due to the hot weather in ok and tx; last friday, i waited until 800pm for the heat to come down to drive from oklahoma city to dallas. About 60 miles north of dallas, my rear right tire blew up as seen on tv news reports on the recall tires; the outer ply(s) peeled off.the dot on my tires are: vdrvaib496 made from the same decatur illinois plan.would like to know if the nhtsa is investigating all firestone's tires beside the recall ones.just wondered, there is a workmanship problem at the decatur, illinois plan?please email me any finding or information on firestone's other tires problems. .....thank you!( dot number: vdrv tire size: p185/70r14 )

This is the second failure of my tigerpaw sidewalls, after 30,000 miles on 80,000 tire.(tiresize: p175/13)

Honda's are sold with "donut" spare tires which are of reduced size and durability and increased pressure.in my first use, the tire failed in less than 30 miles driven at under 50 mph.inmy view this is an inherently unsafe arrangement.although the dealer services this car since new according to mfr specs, i don't ever recall checking the tire myself (unlike tires that get rotated regularly).it quickly failed in curcumstances that could have been quite dangerous.

Got a flat tire, went to change tire and tire didn't fit .

Two yokohama tires were mounted on the front wheels.after 27,000 miles, steel belts in the right front tire failed.ten miles later, the left front tire failed the same way.both failures nearly caused very bad accident in heavy interstate highway traffic. While parking vehicle in a parking lot engine suddenly acelerated, causing vehicle to run into a concrete wall before stopping. Driver sustained minor injuries.dealer notified.
