I took a sharp right turn from a complete stop, and before exiting the turn the throttle lagged giving no response, and then suddenly surged.when the surge happened i was still in the turn and lost traction in the back tire which sent the bike sideways and to the ground.i previously had the lag and leap issue with this bike and had the fuel pump replaced by harley for this issue.the issue appeared to be resolved, however, right before the last 2 fill-ups (right before and after the low fuel light came on) i experienced a slight lag and leap issue.not as bad as before the fuel pump was replaced, but still present.dropped the bike off at the service department at a harley dealer today and they informed me that they would not be contacting anybody higher up at harley to inform them or inquire about the throttle response issue on this bike.
Tl-the contact owns a 2015 harley davidson xg750. The contact stated that while accelerating, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel injection throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that an electrical connector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 830. Djr updated 3/1815 updated 9/12/2017
I've been riding motorcycles for about 10 years now. Went for a ride on friday the 26 of june on the island i live on with a friend. I was on a 25 mile speed limit road approaching a down hill turn to the left. I entered the turn maintaining cover on brakes and clutch. As i started leaning the bike into the turn the motorcycle surged the fuel by cutting off and coming back on rapidly giving me too much torque. I tried braking and down shifting causing my rear wheel to lock up and sending me sideways into the guard rail. I pinned my leg in between the guard rail and the motorcycle causing the rest of my body and head to hit all of the guard rail as well before flipping off the bike and landing on my back. Luckily for me, my injuries were limited to muscle soreness and no broken bones. I just filled a complaint last week as well about the leap and lag surging issue this motorcycle is having. Harley-davidson needs to make a recall for this issue before someone gets severely injured!!
This vehicle will hesitate when accelerating from a full stop and then feel as if it is about to stall then surge. The pattern may repeat several times over several seconds before there is consistent full power. It happenes when there is about 85-90 miles driven on a full tank. I was almost rear-ended several times recently since the driver behind me reasonably expected that i would be able to maintain acceleration away from the stop. Furthermore, it is nearly impossible to maintain control of a turn from a stop when the bike is hesitating and surging throughout the turn. This is an extremely dangerous situation, especially since i am a relatively new rider. Hd appears to be specifically targeting new drivers with this bike, making it even more disturbing and likely to cause an accident. My husband, who is an experienced rider, drove the bike and had the exact same experience. Filling the gas tank resolved the problem. I am extremely nervous to drive this bike with the potential for this problem to return.(i believe this is similar to what is currently being investigated under nhtsa action number: pe15015).
At about 81 miles on the trip odometer from a full tank there was hesitation with acceleration in 1st gear turning right from a stop up a slight incline. By 91 miles on the tank, any hard acceleration was followed by hesitation then surge. This happened in any gear not just in 1st. By 98 miles on the tank there was so much hesitation and surge that it felt too dangerous to ride. This is the second complaint regarding this issue (prior complaint nhtsa id number: 10721410) in spite of the fuel pump already being replaced by harley davidson less than a month ago for the exact same problem. Replacing a defective part with another defective part is not an adequate solution to a potentially very dangerous problem.
I experienced a lag and leap issue.i was riding my bike with about 83 miles on the tank of gas and out of nowhere it would pretend to stall and then take off.would continually do this in the lower gears.added a new tank of gas and it went away.got to the same mileage and happened all over again.harley replaced my fuel pump but it was very scary and i am worried it may happen again.
When the fuel tank is not completely full the engine lurches or bucks. These movements are violent and unexpected and can cause you to crash or put you in danger because it is starved for fuel and will not get out of the way of normal traffic flow. This issue happens before the low fuel light is illuminated and usually still has 1/3 of the fuel remaining. I have contacted harley and made them aware but they do not have a fix as of now.
The motorcycle's engine keeps loosing power then regaining it suddenly when accelerating from a stop in 1st and 2nd gear, especially going uphill. This seems to be related to the fuel level as around that time the fuel light was lighting up intermittently.
We purchased a 2015 street 750. After two months of riding (about 100 miles), we discovered several safety issues that had become apparent only after through actual ride time on the bike.i first called hd in milwaukee, we spoke to customer service representative, david, explaining our concerns. I was given the reference number 2506596. We were subsequently told to take the bike to the hd dealer. The list of issues were as follows:1.front cylinder & fins are practically touching rider?s legs and are extremely hot & dangerous, emitting tremendous heat. This is a major concern as the extreme heat causes constant shifting and/or movement of the legs, thereby impacting control of the bike and causing a safety factor.2.the stock mirrors do not give the rider a clear field of vision directly behind him, again impacting driver safety. 3.the all-black bike has no running lights. The bike is practically invisible under low light conditions, i.e. Night time running, riding in rural locales, etc. Again a safety factor. At the hd dealership i asked if they had addressed the safety concerns. They stated the bike was "legal" and they refused to acknowledge any issues. I was also told the following: ?if we want safe lighting we would have to purchase extra lighting and pay to have it installed.?if we want not be burned because of heat from a cylinder head too close to a rider?s leg, we would have to pay for the luxury of such safety. ?if we want to have safe mirrors, we have to buy them.p.s. Extra lighting features & heat deflectors, & loner -stemmed mirrors, weren?t available for the 750 street at this writing. But even if they were, why would the consumer have to install items that should be an obvious required safety feature? why is it that peole have to die first before manufacturers take action?
While accelerating from a stoplight, the motorcycle engine lagged, surged, and then stalled completely. The motorcycle would not restart while straight and level. I was able to coast through a right turn to down a small decline where i was able to start the engine and carefully proceed to a nearby gas station (<1/4 mi.). The trip indicator showed ~144mi. The fuel tank took 2.87gal to fill. The stated capacity of the stock fuel tank is 3.5gal, leaving ~0.6gal in the tank at the time of incident or ~20mi worth of fuel before empty.in a separate incident on 5/3/2015 the motorcycle was stopped at a gas station next to an inoperative pump. The trip indicator showed ~134mi. When i attempted to move to another pump the motorcycle would not start. Eventually i pushed it to another pump where it took 2.47gal to fill indicating ~1gal was in the tank at the time of the incident.
I purchased this vehicle less than a week ago, it also has less than 100 miles. The vehicle ran fine with no problems until it reached around 75-80 miles. At this point the vehicle would accelerate then decelerate and stall out after starting from a complete stop. This would happen in forward motion and also on turns. The problem occurred about 20(twenty) times leaving me (vehicle stalled out) in the middle of intersections and also in city traffic. The problem occurred in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. The vehicle lunges forward then bogs down then lunges forward again, most of the time stalling out. This problem creates an unsafe driving condition for myself, a passenger, and other motorist on the road. Vehicles had to swerve out of the way to not hit me. I will be taking the vehicle in to the dealer tomorrow.
When fuel is low (usually below 1 gallon), the motorcycle behaves dangerously when accelerating from a stop.vehicle will begin to move forward, suddenly lose power causing it to slow down, and suddenly regain power causing it to accelerate unexpectedly.most likely cause is fuel pump starvation.fuel pump is located at front of the tank, as vehicle moves forward the remaining gas is pushed to the rear of the tank, pump can't maintain fueling to fuel injectors, causing the bike to lose power and slow.the gas then moves forward, pump accesses the fuel and feeds the system causing a sudden and unexpected return of power and acceleration.at stoplights and stop signs this could easily result in the motorcycle being rear-ended, and in corners could easily cause the rear wheel to lose traction resulting in an accident.
"with roughly .9 gallons of fuel in tank, when leaving a full stop, vehicle pauses hard on acceleration. Probable cause is fuel starvation caused by fuel flowing back in the tank, away from the front-located fuel pump, starving efi system of gasoline. As fuel moves forward after a brief pause in forward momentum, the pump has access to the fuel and the bike suddenly lurches forward. This happens multiple times as the fuel in tank travels forward and aft. Extremely unsafe condition at low speeds, especially at intersections when this is most likely to occur." indident took place on my way home "8/5/15" from picking up the new bike. I called the dealer, and they said they never heard of this issue. They said they would return my call, but they never did.
When the low fuel light comes on there is .9 gallon gas left in tank. The low fuel light comes on when approximately 2.8 gallons of gas has been used.when the low fuel light comes on and the throttle is applied the engine stalls until the throttle is released. When the throttle is released the engine goes back to idle. When the throttle is reapplied the engine stalls until the throttle is released. If the throttle is gently applied the engine may pickup speed. This has happened on dozens of occasions in various scenarios: a.) the worst situations have been when passing another vehicle and the low fuel light comes on and the engine stalls in front of the vehicle being passed. B.) the second worst situation is when the low fuel light comes on and the engine stalls when crossing an intersection - especially a four-way stop. C.) the third worst situation is when the low fuel light light comes on when turning a corner. This causes the vehicle loose forward momentum and to fall over in the direction of the turn - or it surges and causes the vehicle to "high-side" over on the opposite side of the turn.i mentioned this to the hd dealer during the first dealer check up (1000 mile). They claimed they could not duplicate the problem.if you review your records i believe you will find several other same type complaints for this vehicle. In some cases the dealers have replaced fuel pump, sock... In other cases the dealer and manufacture denies this problem exist.there is a hd xg750/500 forum that has dozens of similar complaints.
On my very first tank of gas the bike died at around 120 miles on the trip odometer while accelerating away from a stop light.it was a die and lurch that i have recently read others have experienced. I was changing gears from 1st to 2nd and the bike did a wheelie just high enough for my child to slide off the seat and onto the rear fender. I checked the gas and there was plenty to slosh around and no low fuel light. Filling up the tank stopped the problem. I asked the dealer to fix the no low fuel light problem when they opened 3 days later but in that time i used another tank of fuel and the same die and lurch around 130 miles on the trip odometer. After around 4 weeks of waiting the h-d service technician tells me that he flashed the computer and the problem is fixed. I fill up the tank on the way home and reset the trip odometer. The next day (yesterday) i experience the same die and lurch around 130 miles. The low fuel light has never come on on this bike. Yes, it lights up on the self-diagnostic when i turn the key on but it has never come on for low fuel and i get the die and lurch around 120 to 130 miles every time. I believe that someone used to a smaller motorcycle would get hurt to easily with this lurch thing.

While driving my 2015 harley-davidson street 750 yesterday, and a couple times in the past, upon accelerating i felt my motorcycle quickly lose power and shortly after lunge forward quickly and unexpectedly. Each time this problem has occurred, i have had approximately 1 gallon of fuel left in my tank or slightly less. The first time this happened, i was nearly thrown backwards off my bike because of the rapid forward acceleration, to the point where my hands actually came off the grips for a split second. I shrugged it off and chalked it up to being a new rider but then when happening again i was concerned. I experienced the same problem again yesterday multiple times, and each time upon refueling, the problem was fixed.
The following event occurred previously at a lower mileage at least once, but i attributed it to my inexperience. I am a beginner at riding. On 6/13/15 when accelerating from a country road onto a state highway where quick acceleration is desired the bike bogged slightly and then propelled like a rocket ship again able to control this but it wasn't the desired acceleration for the turn i was making. I again thought operator error until i accelerated from the stop light a mile or so down the road. Again a slight bog and then a rocket ship throwing me back on the seat. Able to control the bike and get to my destination, which was to get fuel as the low fuel light was on, and put 2.64 gallons in the tank. The problem did not present after this addition. A quick internet search of this revealed that i am not the only one experiencing this issue as i found these complaints and a blog were the problem is being discussed. After reading these i also realized that the previous occurrence was on a state highway on a longer trip and the low fuel light came on. Went to the nearest gas station and fueled. Problem went away. To be fair took the bike to the dealer and they have said they replicated the problem with up to 1.5 gallons in the tank. Currently they are waiting on a part in order to attempt the repair of this issue. Placing my experience here as the owners manual has a section which states safety defects must be reported to the nhtsa and harley-davidson.

So this is not the first time this happened but i just thought it was user error and then i started paying more attention and it only happens when fuel is low. The most recent time was the worst i was on the freeway when the fiuel light turns on so i immediately got off to fuel up. And every time i would take off from a stop it work thrust and jerk me like power completely stopped and then it was rapidly added again and it was definitely not a pleasant feeling ecery time i fought the bike not to throw me or to fall over specially since one of the time it happened during a turn. I then started doing some research and i ran into this siie and for the looks of it i am not the only one experiencing this. Also like i mentioned this has happened since i purchased my bike at the beginning of april 2015

My husband and i were riding together, sitting still at a light, first to take off at green light with cars behind us.we took off, & my bike took off, sloshing fuel to back of tank, & i lost all power for a moment in the middle of a city interception.as the fuel sloshed back forward & backwards, it gave me some intermittent acceleration power to limp through the intersection.i immediately pulled into the middle turn lane section of the road so vehicles could pass me, i am lucky i was not hit.my low fuel light was not on yet, & my mileage on this tank was about 119.since i am familiar with this issue from reading feedback, i simply took off extra slow from every stop until we reached our destination, and then it happened again before we reached a gas station.we put in 2.7 gals, meaning i had .9 gal left, & my low fuel indicator had only began to fade on & off while riding.my dealership said the factory had no experience with this & the factory had no solutions & this wasn't a common problem.i rode the motorcycle to laughlin river run, keeping it fueled up before i hit 100 miles per tank, nervous because of the hills involved.fed up with thr downplay of a life threatening issue, i called customer service line from a gethuman site & the next day my dealership calls me saying they have the fuel assembly replacement which will be installed after my dyno tune is finished.i paid for custom paint, a seat, a luggage rack, a bag, vance & hines slip on muffler, a buckshot heat shield, a screaming eagle intake, and a dyno tune.plus i bought & had a windshield installed.i hate my bike being on the shop & don't like having issues downplayed after spending that kind of $ on a street 750!how about some baffles in the tank or other solution?a new rider like me is lucky that i read about this before i rode, most will not & could be killed or thrown from bike.
Intermittent lag-and-leap/surge-and-buck issues. Ifelt my motorcycle quickly lose power and shortly after lunge forward quickly and unexpectedly. Each time this problem has occurred, i have had approximately 1 gallon of fuel left in my tank or slightly less.
When coming to a complete stop and then accelerating motorcycle acts as if it is low on fuel and does a very violent judder/ jolt forwards. As this is seen as an entry level bike someone with less riding time will definitely run into some serious issues. Has happened multiple times, in my case also the fuel light comes on when these happens. I then fill up and it always takes 1.6 gallons when light comes on. So indicator light is coming on prematurely and there is still 1.9 gallons left in tank. This problem with fuel system is no joke when you have someone behind you which i almost got rammed from behind.if harley doesn't act on this there will definitely have some law suits to deal with in near future. This issue has made me think twice about riding at speeds over 35mph with this particular motorcycle. I have called harley service department and was told it might need some kind of adjustment made on float of fuel pump. But i refused to take bike on expressway and hate to pay for a toll truck when its a brand new 2015 bike.why should i pay for pick up fee? remember the customer is also right and i wouldn't spend my time writing this if this wasn't a concern. Don't wait till someone gets seriously hurt out there.
With roughly .9 gallons of fuel in tank, when leaving a full stop, vehicle pauses hard on acceleration. Extremely unsafe condition at low speeds, especially at intersections when this is most likely to occur.
Almost at exactly 90 miles, when there is still 1.5 gal of gas in the cycle it will stall out like someone hit the kill switch so it throws you forward on the bike.then it comes back on and practically throws you off backwards.it gets worse at the 100 mile mark as the "stall" will happen even in higher gears and at higher speeds.when i then put gas in it, the problem goes away for the next 90 miles.not safe and inexperienced riders could be thrown off the bike.
When the full tank gets low where the fuel light comes on. (normal for a motorcycle). You stop and when you go to start, the engine surges and stalls violently and unexpectedly. This could cause a crash. It seems the motor starves for fuel and stalls and when it stalls the fuel then feeds properly and causes a fierce acceleration, again, unexpectedly. There are reports all over the internet of this with this new model and the manufacturer has failed to acknowledge the safety concern and recall it.

Fuel tank capacity is 3.5 gallons. At approximately .9 gallons left in the tank, the fuel will cut out when accelerating from a stop, throwing the rider forward. After approximately 2 seconds, the fuel system recovers, throwing the rider backwards. The fuel in the tank is being forced to the rear of the tank when accelerating from a stop, causing the stall condition.
While driving at a steady 35 mph or so, the bike suddenly lost engine power (as if i closed the throttle) then without warning it opened right back up and lunged me forward as if i suddenly twisted the throttle open again. This has happened both times i got low on gas but before the gas light came on! there was still quite a bit of gas in the tank. And when i fill up, the problem disappears until i drive another 75 miles or so.
Upon reaching approximately 95-100 miles on a tank of gas i experience issues with fuel delivery and engine output. The motorcycle loses power and is non-responsive, then all of a sudden will shoot forward as it receives fuel again. This could cause loss of control or a multi-vehicle accident due to the unknown responsiveness. The problem gets progressively worse, and after about 10-15 miles of the symptoms the fuel light is then triggered. The issue does not happen when the gas tank is full, but only after using approximately 1.6 to 2.0 gallons of gas (or 95-100 miles of driving). I believe there is an issue with the fuel pump causing a loss of suction causing the bike to act erratically. I have spoke with many owners of the same bike and they have also had the same issue. Many have had their fuel pumps replaced but still experience the problem because of the faulty fuel pump design. I have set an appointment with my local dealer to have my bike repaired.

While pulling out of a parking spot my bike stalled and suddenly surged forward,i lost my balance and dropped it in the lot. I asked my dealer about people complaining about this problem and they habven't heard of it but i looked it up and apparently alot of people have the same problem.i am just glad it wasn't in traffic and i have crash bars. My low fuel light was not on and i had a half a tank of gas so my guess is something is flawed with the fuel pump. This is a very serious and dangerous problem!!! it needs to be recalled and they shouldn't sell anymore until they check this lag and leap issue.
Starting with a full tank of gas i drove for approximately 100 miles and the bike began to surge and buck.problem getting worse the more i drove.after 20 miles the low fuel light came on .i filled tank with fuel and the problem went away until i again drove approximately 100 miles.bucking surging began again and got continually worse until the low fuel light came on 20 miles later.filled with gas and problem cleared up.dealer has had bike three times to repair.this last time i told them the fuel pump is losing suction possibly because of problem with fuel pickup tube. I will pickup at dealer again.dealer recommended i not let fuel level get low. Hopefully it is fixed but not letting the fuel level get too low is an unacceptable fix.
**this is my second complaint about this**the issue happened the first time at 86 miles on the motorcycle.it was fixed at about 500 miles.now at 996 miles it's back.the issue happens when taking off from a stop.the motorcycle almost dies because it isn't getting fuel, then it gets fuel and lurches forward.there is still over a gallon of fuel in the tank and the low fuel light was not on at the time.i almost crashed and could have been hurt or killed by the traffic coming up behind me.the first time they replaced the fuel pump and i was told that it's a faulty design and the pickup comes off causing it to not pickup fuel properly.it appears the replacement came apart also.is harley going to be pushed to redesign this before or after someone is hurt or killed?...updated 09/22/15 updated 11/08/2017
Vehicle was lurching and bucking while driving from apparent fuel starvation.the low fuel light had just come on and there should have been more than enough fuel to continue on for a several miles.
Ok so first time i had an issue was in january when i noticed a major surge to the point of stalling out reguardless of fuel level in the tank. Took it to harley once and they could not replecate the issue. Second time within the same month same issue the fixed it by replacing the fuel pump stating it was faulty. Had no problems for months till recently in may i started noticing i was on the highway when my fuel was low and the light came on i pulled of at an exit to get gas and it started to surge again like it did before. Tank was almost empty so i filled her up. No problems the rest of the day. Next month of june i notice my light started coming on when i was leaving my work and when in first or second gear it surges really quick from power to no power to quick power all of a sudden. So i went and filled up the tank and yet again no problems. Seems to be happening around 100 miles per tank. And when at half tank taking right hand turns it looses power too. Very easily could through an inexperinced rider off if they dont know how to maintain throttle and clutch control. Also noticed she has issues with starting in the morning when cold if the bike sits out in the lot, have to give her gas to warm up. Liqued cooled and fuel injected motors should not have that issue especially with only 2000 miles on the motor bike is not safe at this time probably due to the amount of foreign parts on an american machine.
This is the second complaint as i have received no response from nhtsa on my first complaint # 10715309; and even though the dealer/manufacture attempted to repair the problem, the problem just happened again.as described by in in my first complaint and 53 other owners of this vehicle registering complaints - the vehicle has a dangerous throttle control issue due to a [known] faulty fuel pick-up tube/pump.as soon as the low fuel light comes on the motor will stall when the throttle is applied and then rapidly accelerate at a nearly uncontrollable rate.this happens when starting out from a stop, cruising down the road, passing another vehicle, turning a corner...this saturday 1 aug 2015 the problem happened while turning a corner with my wife on the back. The unexpected acceleration nearly through her off the back of the motorcycle and caused me to run off the road to keep from flipping/high-siding the bike.
I purchased my harley davidson xg750 on july 23rd and picked it up on july 24 with zero miles on the odometer. On sunday july 26 the fuel light came on with approximately 98 miles on the odometer. The next day july 27 while riding the xg750 it began to surge forward and stall while accelerating from a stop in first gear. Itgot progressively worse 2 more times when accelerating from a stop. I drove to a gas station and filled the tank up with shell 87 octane fuel. It took 1.819 gallons. Odometer reading was 102 miles. On july 30 with 166 miles on the odometer the fuel light came on while in route to work. After work on my way to a harley davidson service center. The gx750 began to stall and accelerate from a stop in first gear. I checked the fuel tank and it was almost full. The gx750 continued to stall and accelerate with out using the throttle. It started to progressively get worse and shut off at least 10 times. I was in heavy traffic and would stall in the middle of the intersections forcing cars to swerve around me. I made it to the harley service center with 206 miles on the odometer.
This is the same issue as found in investigationpe15015.this is the first time i have experienced engine stumble (stall), commonly referred to as lag and leap. This occurred when i had a low fuel level in my tank, (tank was filled 10 miles later with 3.1 gallons into a 3.5 gallon tank). When accelerating from a stop into a right hand turn i experienced a near-stalling of my engine. I did not adjust throttle and very quickly after that stall a surge in engine rpm occurred with brisk acceleration, followed by another near-stalling and another surge. A third less noticeable episode occurred after that. I did not adjust throttle position throughout the episode. The timespan over which this took place was probably 2-3 seconds. I am familiar with the complaints which have been around this issue and so was confident that i would be able to get through the episode without losing control of the bike. Several minutes later and after another stop with very slow acceleration from it, during which the stall and surge did not occur, i decided to test whether it would happen in 2nd gear on a straight trajectory. At about 20 mph i accelerated in 2nd gear and again 3 cycles of stall and surge or lag-and-leap did occur, with the 2nd one being most noticeable and the third being very minimal. I was happy i was able to make a left turn across two lanes of road to get into the gas station, without it occurring again. I drove another 40 miles after filling my gas tank without it happening again. I had previously filled my tank with 3.4 gallons during a ride when my motorcycle had 1000 miles on it, without this phenomenon occurring.
My xg750 was low on fuel. When leaving from a stop, at a stop & go light it felt as though it had no power causing me to turn the accelerator more. Then it got fuel catching me off guard and leaped out into traffic.no one was hurt but i feel this is a potentially dangerous situation. It has happened several times now always when the fuel is low.
From a complete stop, i accelerated slowly down my gravel driveway toward the public street.as i accelerated and leaned left slightly to follow the path of the driveway, the motorcycle stalled momentarily and then immediately accelerated rapidly.i grabbed the front brake and pressed down on the rear brake simultaneously and the bike slid and laid down.after recovering and assessing the situation, i rode cautiously on the public street to the nearest gas station and topped up the tank.after riding several miles and upon coming to a complete stop at a stop light, i attempted to accelerate at the intersection and the bike again stalled momentarily and then accelerated rapidly.the same stalling occurred multiple times at the same and multiple successive intersections.at no time did the low fuel indicator appear lit on the bike.at last failure, the bike had roughly one-half tank of fuel.at 88 miles on the odometer, my husband rode the bike to the dealer on 5/23/2015 to have it inspected.there were 95 miles on the odometer when he delivered the bike to the dealer.the service manager at the dealer implied there was simply a lack of fuel in the tank.after having the bike for several days, the service manager confirmed they were able to duplicate the problem while riding the bike.they've had the bike for nearly 4 weeks; 2 weeks longer than i had the bike.the service personnel have since indicated they won't have parts to resolve the issue until at least the third week of july, 2015; other dealers assert august.the bike was purchased on may 9th, 2015 and had been ridden twice by me before it was returned for warranty repair.initially, the dealer service personnel asserted the repairs weren't likely to be covered under warranty.they've not yet confirmed that position.my husband's identical motorcycle has the same issue.the bike is unsafe.
When accelerating away from a traffic light, the bike hesitated, then dumped all its power into the action, resulting in a "lag-leap" effect.it's done it 2-3 times since the initial instance.
If the vehicle's fuel tank level is approx. Half or lower, the vehicle may abruptly stall and surge forward. The lower the fuel level is, the more often and abruptly the stall and surge is, and can happen during normal driving conditions, especially up an incline. This happens before the low fuel indicator illuminates. This behaviour can easily cause an accident or fatality.
Starting with a full tank of gas my wife drove her brand new xg750 for approximately 100 miles.the first issue occured when she was taking off from an intersection, the bike stalled out, in the middle of the intersection.with her being a new rider, she attributed it to her doing something wrong.at the very next intersection the issue happened again, except the bike lunged forward after the stall this time.she then promptly honked her horn to let me know there was an issue.we pulled over, i got on the xg750 to see what the deal was.as i took off, the bike stuttered but did not stall.i rode it down one block and then turned around. As i started the turn the bike stuttered again and almost stalled.the idle of the bike was very erratic, stuttering up and down.the problem seemed to be getting worse the more the bike was driven.my wife got back on the xg750 and we decided to head back to the house, as there was something wrong with her xg750.we made it about 5 more miles when her xg750 stalled out on the highway.she coasted to the shoulder and tried to start the bike 2 or 3 times until i arrived.mind you, the "low fuel" light was not on, nor did it ever come one.the motorcycle has since been taken back to the dealer.for a bike that is marketed as a "beginner" bike, this is a malfunction that has the potential for causing fatalities, as the issue happens on curves, or under situations where the rider needs to accelerate, but cant due to the fuel system malfunctioning.i will be exploring the option of returning the bike to the dealer, as i don't want my wife riding a "beginner" motorcycle that has the potential to cause her to crash or worse, kill her.
Intermittent lag-and-leap/surge-and-buck issues.while making a right turn onto a major thoroughfare, lost power to the engine, and upon giving a small amount of additional throttle, power came back full force, and front tire lost contact with the ground briefly.having attributed the issue to being a new rider, practice was engaged the same evening.extreme issues followed, including stalling three times while attempting to cross an intersection, and an extremely unsafe ride home followed, luckily without major incident.motorcycle was towed into the shop the following day at 90 miles, and the fuel pump was replaced.issues have not raised themselves again since the repair, however, as some have stated they came back, and hd otherwise has not issued a recall, i add my complaint to the list in the hopes that others will not be put into danger by this potentially very unsafe condition.
The motorcycle's engine keeps loosing power then regaining it suddenly when accelerating from a stop in 1st and 2nd gear, especially going uphill. This seems to be related to the fuel level as around that time the fuel light was lighting up intermittently.
When launching from a complete stop the bike failed to accelerate.this happened on more then one occasion that day and then the low fuel light went on. I thought okay i am out of gas and that's what caused the motorcycle to lurch and then launch this is a very unsafe practice when i took it to the gas station to fill up what i thought was an empty tank i noticed the tank was half filled with gas. I filled it anyway and the problem went away, i believe the tank is either not pressurized correctly or the fuel valve is located at the wrong part of the tank. I have owned many of motorcycles and have never had this issue. I would like to see an investigation as to what the problem is i know i am not the only one with this issue based on the forums that i have read.
When the bike has less than 2 gallons in the tank, the bike would lag every time i started from a stop, then lurch forward, then lag & lurch.the bike has stalled several times in the middle of intersections.luckily i'm an experienced rider and didn't crash on these incidents.the bike will literally lag, then leap (small wheelie) then repeat. Very dangerous!about 4-5 miles later my low-fuel indicator came on.after refueling the problem went away, it took less than 2 gallons to fill up even though my tank is 3.5 gallons.at 120 miles, i was going around 30 mph in a right hand curve and the bike started to stall.again, this is before a low-fuel indicator.i filled up with exactly 2 gallons, meaning i had 1.5 gallons in the tank.this kind of lag/leap problem will get someone killed and must be addressed.my dealer told me it's a problem with the low-fuel indicator.that is not the problem. Please recall these bikes before someone gets killed.
The motorcycle lags and leaps when taking off from a stop or when accelerating quickly. It has happened to me several times and i have only had the bike a few weeks. I bought it brand new. Luckily there were no cars around when it happened to me but if this happens to anyone while they are in traffic they will get seriously injured. Very scary.
The motorcycle ,stalls from a stop and then accelerates very fast ,this happens when the bikes is low on fuel , but low fuel warning light is on. It is vey dangerous. It starts out from a dead stop ok , then stalls real fast , and after the stall it accelerates rapidly with no input from me the rider on the throttle control.
With roughly .9 gallons of fuel in tank, when leaving a full stop, vehicle pauses hard on acceleration. Extremely unsafe condition at low speeds, especially at intersections when this is most likely to occur. I have to be excessively cautious to make sure there is over a half a tank of gas to keep this from occuring. The last time it occured, the low-fuel light had not even come on yet, (light is said to come on at .8 gallon left). This is extremly unsafe.
At the dealer, itest tried the x500. At the first stop sign, i accelerated and the motorcycle stalled. When i decelerated, the gas in the gas tank moved and the bike ran again. I went back to the dealer immediately and reported the problem, explaining what had just happened. They told me that it must have been the governor. I asked for the x750, everything went perfect and i bought it. The first incident occurred at a traffic light. I accelerated and the bike stalled. Once i decelerated and gas in the tank moved again. I immediately went to gas station and filled the gas tank with 2.134 gallons at only 99 miles. The second 2nd incident, same accelerate in a light turning right cars behind me, stalls and get gas when i shift to second, same immediately gas station, this time fill the gas tankwith 2.469 gallons only 190miles.capacities say, i know you have it: fuel tank 3.5 gallons, low fuel indicator 0.8 gallon.i will fill the tank each 100 miles until they change my gas tank with compartments inside so the gas doesn't go all the way back and the gas pump can suck it. Is really danger with vehicles pushing behind my back. I'm an expert rider, hope the rookies don't suffer an accident. Another recall to make: with the rear mirror's you are not able to see the vehicles behind you, my body blocks complete the rear view.
As i entered an intersection in 1st gear, the motorcycle failed to accelerate and then surged forward.i had just gotten my motorcycle endorsement and had very little riding experience. Fortunately, i was able to maintain control of the motorcycle. Another incident happened soon after as i was taking a right hand curve.i was in second gear and slowed as i approached the right hand curve. I attempted to accelerate through the curve and the motorcycle lagged and then suddenly leaped forward, causing me to fishtail and almost run off of the road. Fortunately, i was able to maintain control and prevent a crash. On 1/7/2015, the vehicle was driven to the dealer with approximately 120 miles on it for an inspection of the problem. The dealer told me that they were able to reproduce the problem; however, i was merely low on fuel. I told the dealer that the low fuel light indicator never activated. They filled the tank with gas and the problem did not reoccur.they were also able to get the low fuel light indicator to activate at approximately 0.8 of a gallon. They also put the vehicle on the dyno and were not able to reproduce the problem when fuel was present. The dealer told me to keep a gallon of gas in the tank at all times to keep the fuel pump wet. On 4/19/2015, the vehicle exhibited lag and leap in first through fourth gears and the engine died multiple times on a major thoroughfare. I was under the impression that i was low on fuel, so i tried to make a u-turn at an intersection into a gas station. I was unable to get the vehicle to safely engage in 1st gear without surging and/or dying, so i pushed the bike to the nearby fuel pump. I was shocked to see that i had sufficient fuel and added 1.2 gallons to the 3.5 gallon tank. After fueling, the vehicle was sputtering while idling. I drove home at less than 30 mph lagging and leaping the whole way with no crash.
From a complete stop at an intersection, i attempted to accelerate while turning right at the intersection after stop light changed.the bike seemed to stall momentarily and then recover, then stall again and recover again.this has since become a regularly observable pattern when the gas tank is partially full but no low fuel indicator light displays.topping up the tank resolves the issue again temporarily until the tank is slightly less than half full.problem is most pronounced when travelling uphill or leaning through a turn.
I was riding my bike home from work on 6/1/2015 and have continued to notice rough throttle response which is something ive experienced since i purchased it. The issue did seem to be a little worse than usual though when leaving the parking lot at work. I think the tripmeter was at about 85 miles or so when i left. As im riding home, the low fuel light never came on and was ridding great while in 3rd gear and up. Starting from a stop light was jumpy though but again, something ive continued to experience since bringing the bike home and not sure if it was normal or not. When close to my house, which is at the top of a hill, i was riding up the hill in first gear which i always have to do since its pretty steep. About half way up the hill the bike felt like it was going to stall which made me lean forward a bit due to losing some momentum. Then the bike surged forward which almost made me do a wheelie. I really had to work the clutch to keep the bike from getting away from me. During this time though, the low fuel light came on. The bike continued to lose power and surge until i finally made it to the top of the hill where my house is. The tripmeter then read 103.6 miles with the odometer showing 292 total miles.the bike has been to the dealership for over a week and the last update i received was that the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with it and that the factory said to fill it up with gas and if it happens again, to bring it back for repair. I said that i'm not comfortable riding the bike until it's fixed. I also said that if the bike is low on gas, it will be easy to recreate the issue. Unfortunately, i had to put gas in it to ride it to the dealership. He said he will have the mechanic take another look.
I complained about the performance of the bike and the dealer told me that i had to just break it in. I had other persons ride it and told me that perhaps it was the throttle and or fuel injector. I called and complained again and they said that i needed to just ride it more and get use to it. I said it was losing power and maybe the injector was clogged. I took it to a local mechanic who then said that because it's under a warranty and the fuel injector is computerized that the bike should be looked at by the dealer. I called the dealer again and explained to the tech what i was told. He said we will make some adjustments and see what happens. He said i can have a trailer pick it up at my cost of $50 or so each way. Unfortunately, work got in the way and could not take it. The next season in 2017 i had the same issue expect this time it caused my accident. This propelling of fuel all at once to my bike almost killed me and injured me severely. The fuel gauge went on as i was rolling to a stop and continued through in first or second gear and then suddenly the bike bogged down and accelerated almost on it's with such intensity i lost control. Hit front and back break but back failed to engage enough to keep me straight ended up lifting back tire and flying over handle bars.
Motorcycle lurches and chokes when in 1st and 2nd gear leaving a stop light. Tank was a little more than half full. Filled up tank and it stopped the issue. Gas tank is not empty enough to cause low gas indicator to come on so unaware when the lurching will happen. I have not notified harley yet because it is sunday and i will have to wait til tuesday to contact the dealer.
From 0mph, under moderate acceleration bike lost all power for a moment then quickly accelerated, happened over the course of about a second. Very dangerous, less experienced riders could become injured or could cause an accident on public roads with moderate traffic.
The low fuel warning light illuminated few minutes before the incident. The incident happened at a red light on a 55 mph road. I was first in line in my lane. I attempted to proceed through the intersection when the light turned green. I rolled maybe a few inches and the bike lost all power, followed by an immediate surge of power. This happened 3 times while trying to cross the intersection. My passenger and i were almost thrown from the bike. It felt as if every time the fuel sloshed back and forth the surge and stall would happen.
When i took off from a light in traffic, taking off in first gear, after i let the clutch out fully, it hesitated as if it were out of fuel.i was lunged forward from the sudden loss of power.after that, before i could reduce the throttle position, the bike lunged forward almost throwing me off the back.this cycle continued a few times like a bucking bronco.the people around must have thought i was an experienced rider, however this is not the case, i have ridden for many years.it was as if it was starving for fuel when i took off, then suddenly the fuel flow was returned.my low fuel light was not on, and my trip meter since my initial fill-up was at 90 miles.i immediately went to fill it up with fuel.once it was full, the problem went away.however, the week my trip meter hit 90 miles again.the same thing happened as before.this is the second time i have been nearly thrown off of the bike.each time a trip to the station to get about 2.6 gallons of fuel fills it up, and it is fine for another 90 miles.i'm not sure why there is a low fuel light, i could never ride it until that comes on.and, i would expect to be able to range more than 90 miles with 3.5 gallons of fuel.this seems to be a design problem that i feel is dangerous, especially for inexperienced riders.

This happens multiple times as the fuel in tank travels forward and aft. Extremely unsafe condition at low speeds, especially at intersections when this is most likely to occur."also causes the bike to not start up right. Many times it take 3 or 4 times to get the bike started when its under half a tank of gas.
Fuel pump on the motorcycle is not in good working order when the fuel level emptys to a certain point in the tank not knowing when because their is also no gas odometer on the motorcycle the model begins to lag and leap at any time and as many times it wants to react as am twisting the throttle whether am switching gears or just in crusie it will do this cause me to lose control and may lose control at the wrong time like bad weather, up and go traffic, turning into streets, i have already took a fall on the motorcycle trying to making it inside the fuel island at a gas station and the timing when i was in my turn of a right going in the island it lag and leap at that time and took off on me causing me to fall and also the motorcycle i walked away unharmed just my motorcycle had road scratches going along the muffler and heat sheild and right side handle bar grip chipped..i took it to get service at the dealer for its first 1000 mile and while it was their they replace the fuel pump but it still does the same thing and only got worst. The next problem is the gear shift between 1st gear and 2nd gear most of the time is not completely in gear when switching between the two.
At low fuel (approx .9 gallons left in tank), while accelerating from a stop, motorcycle will lose fuel pressure, unexpectedly throwing the rider forward. A second later, the fuel delivery resumes, throwing the rider backwards. Filling the tank with fuel fixes the problem until a low fuel condition is once again reached. This happened to me several times. Most recently when this occurred, i stopped to fill the tank. I put 2.6 gallons of gas in the 3.5 gallon capacity tank, and this solved the "lag and leap" problem. I have called h-d factory 3 times regarding this issue, they always refer me to my dealer, where the bike has already been in for this issue 3 times. I believe at low fuel condition, the remaining fuel in the tank is being forced away from the pickup during acceleration, and returning shortly thereafter, causing this very unsafe condition.
The bike surges when shifting gears, due to fuel pump not operating properly. It will start a lower speeds, then begin to happen at higher speeds. 2 fuel pumps have been put into the bike and the issue still happens.
At about 70 miles on a full tank of gas, my xg750, when stopping and going it felt as though it had no power and then surged.this happened everytime i stopped and would go. The fuel light would flicker on and off but would go out once it stopped surging.i stopped and filled up the gas tank.once full the surging stopped. After that i was afraid to ride over 50 miles without getting more gas.this past sunday i was just pulling out of my driveway when it occured again.i was just at 60 miles and was going to get gas.this time it surge while i was making a left turn. The surge caused the bike to jump and i started to lose control.i got the bike stopped but because of the angle of the bike it fell on its left side and i went down on my knee.the bike suffered what appeares to be minor damage.bent clutch, scuffed handle and foot peg.the gear selector also bent and now will only start in neutral.this is definately a fuel delivery related problem based on the amount of gas in the tank.this could have been a lot worse if i was in traffic or even going at speed.now i have a damaged bike and what i feel is not a safe bike to ride.
This is my second complaint, original complaint # 10721274. After filing the complaint, i took the vehicle to the dealer to be fixed 5/25/15 (miles in 106). I was notified by the dealer that they spoke to harley-tech support and the dealer was advised to replace the fuel pump (ref#248840 rep:john). I received notification the bike was ready to be picked up on 6/4/2015 ( all issues fixed- fuel pump [lag and leap condition] and a neutral switch for the indicator to work properly), i was not able to pick the bike up until today 6/7/2015. The vehicle out mileage was 126, then i drove for a short trip maybe 2 miles stopped / parked the vehicle for 2 hrs. I then started driving again, with in a couple of minutes i felt the bike stumble after starting from a red light (1st gear) and then again in 2nd gear. I continued to drive a little further and then from another stop the vehicle constantly surged/lurch and leap condition constantly through 1st and 2nd gear and finally stalled out ,also no low fuel indicator light on. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership with a mileage of 131 miles. So, within 5 miles and probably 15 minutes of driving the vehicle, it has failed again. I understand there is an investigation in place and that harley-davidson has knowledge of this issue, problem is their recommended fix is not working
My street 750 has 11,800 miles. While riding at 65 mph, sudden loss of drive. Pulled over to notice the motorcycle's belt missing and debris on the belt guide and the back wheel. The bolt holding the front sprocket was out of place and made a hole in the cover. The front sprocket was out of place. I was able to walk back my path and found the belt shredded.

While at highway speed, 65mph, front belt pulley bolt broke causing pulley to dislodge. Causes belt to wrap around shaft and jam locking rear wheel.luckily the pulley did not fall off belt guard and hit myself or any other vehicles. This has not been adjusted due to not needing new belt, and was at same specs from factory. Upon research, found multiple owners same year having same failures. So far no one has wrecked or caused injury, however had i been inexperienced i likely would have.upon contacting my local dealer where purchased i was told that humidity could weaken the bolt and cause failure.this was feb 27 @ 1330. Was told i would have to pay for diagnostics and repair. I'm surprised that humidity could be blamed for failure, and then have to pay for repair. I opted to remove broken bolt on own with basic tools previously . Did not want to assist in working with main manufacturer or investigate the multiple failures.
Bolt on the front drive pulley (made of soft metal) breaks while driving and drive pulley comes loose from the engine drive shaft and destroys the shield and drive belt, causing the motorcycle to loose all momentum and likely rear tire lockups.can happen at any time while motorcycle in being driven...at any speed....this is extremely dangerous! http://www.hdstreetforums.com/forum/harley-davidson-street-general-discussion/11921-list-issues-your-street-2.htmlthis link will show you an example of this problem, hasn't happened to mine, but it could any time and could cause serious injury or death!
2015 harley davidson xg 750. Problem with neutral light flashing. While in neutral. Dealer replaced neutral switch. Now the light is inoperative. Other harley dealers informed me that they have seen the light flash while in drive gears. Also my transmission has developed a chatter while shifting when fully warmed up. Has been at dealer for 2 weeks.

Rear brake master cylinder failure. Bike has only 1935 miles.pads are within specifications and brake system properly adjusted and bled but unable to lock rear brake even at 10 mph.should be recalled !
I recently bought a 2015 harley davidson xg750 from a dealership.i've ridden the bike for about 6 months and the rear brakes went out.the maintenance was current through the harley davidson dealership, but after a 30 min ride, the rear brakes went from soggy to nil.

The harley-davidson street 750 has brake failures.the failures are systemic to the rear brake cylinder causing. I have actually have the linkage brake off because of no thread lock but the rear brake just slides over the rotor and never stop the bike on it own.hd solution is to install the same defective part.bike needs a recall.below is independent test documenting the failures.http://lanesplitter.jalopnik.com/harley-davidson-street-750s-brakes-completely-fail-in-m-1729350316the only think that will make hd fix this defect is a gov recall or deaths and lawsuits.i have included a document of an email i sent to cowboy hd of austin. Describing all the problems i had with the bike.
On june 24, 2016 tried to press rear brake pedal all the way down while slowing to avoid stopped car in front of me. Could not do it in normal riding position. Had to use all front brake. I was on a city street during forty miles an hour.
Motorcycle lagged and leaped accelerating from a stop while low on fuel - this problem was said to be remedied after bringing it up with a dealer and they installed a new fuel pump... However the problem seems to have returned. Acceleration seems to stutter then return at full force in a split second, causing loss of traction and steering. Cannot stress enough how dangerous this is driving in an urban environment.
While riding at low speed on city streets, the steering felt unusually tight.upon arriving home, i lifted the front wheel off of the ground and confirmed that something was binding in the steering head, causing increased steering effort and a "notchy" feeling.i deemed the motorcycle unsafe to ride.several days later, i disassembled the steering head assembly to inspect the bearings and found evidence of water intrusion.i found the upper bearing slightly rusted and the lower bearing substantially rusted, and determined the rusted bearings to be the cause of the binding. While disassembling the motorcycle, i discovered that one front wheel bearing felt rough.upon removing and disassembling the defective wheel bearing, i found it to be rusted internally.this motorcycle is three years old and has only 2,356 miles on the odometer, and it requires new steering head bearings and front wheel bearings.
When accelerating away from a traffic light, the bike hesitated, then dumped all its power into the action, resulting in a "lag-leap" effect.it's done it 2-3 times since the initial instance.
Very dangerous short stem mirrors, cant see behind you!fuel pump/ pickup tube sucks air and bike stalls then lunges.gear selection is difficult and hangs.very weak front brakes.timing shaft woodruff key breaks!
With roughly .9 gallons of fuel in tank, when leaving a full stop, vehicle pauses hard on acceleration. Extremely unsafe condition at low speeds, especially at intersections when this is most likely to occur.

The contact owns a 2015 harley-davidson xg750. While driving at 5 mph, the motorcycle performed as if it would stall. The vehicle unexpectedly accelerated and caused the contact to lose control and crash into a cement median. A police report was not filed. The contact sustained injuries to the left forearm and left leg, a contusion to the right shin and knuckle, and left wrist dislocation that required medical attention. The motorcycle was towed to the dealer after the crash. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 826.
While riding on the freeway i tried to accelerate, i was lower on gas (approximately, 1 - 1.25 gallon left). The bike only has a 3.5 gallon tank, as i attempted to accelerate while passing a vehicle in traffic, the bike lagged, no response for a quarter to half second, and then suddenly it leaped forward and then lagged again. It continued to do this for a second or two until i released the throttle and accelerated very slowly. This was a very dangerous situation as i was sharing a lane to pass (as allowed in california), and this happen leaving me stuck between two vehicles. This has happened many times before, but only when i low gas (gas light is on).
From 0mph, under moderate acceleration bike lost all power for a moment then quickly accelerated, happened over the course of about a second. Very dangerous, less experienced riders could become injured or could cause an accident on public roads with moderate traffic.
After about 100 miles on tank of gas the bike started to buck from take off and until second gear was applied. This has happened on several occasions around the same amount of mileage and fuel light was not on either time. When fill up with gas it only takes 2 gallons at most meaning still had 1.5 gallons left.
I believe that there may be poor vibrational design or quality control for the left foot shifter linkage that connects to the transmission. I was going uphill and noticed the bike lose speed when shifting to 4th and 5th gear. After a couple of hills, as i was going downhill the shifter would not downshift. I pulled over and saw that the bolt was almost out of the shifter linkage and that the fasteners were nowhere to be found. Possibly poorly torqued or not enough vibrational protection. Happened around 70 miles on bike. Bike is being transported to shop tomorrow
