Dt: the contact owned a 2002 harley davidson softail fxsts. The contact was complaining about afuel system problem.he purchasedthe motorcyclebrand new andin the winter the gas tankrustedin less than three years. . harley davidson put a liner inside the gas tank to prevent it from rusting and it did not work. The actually liner was peeling and comingoffinside the tank. If it gotthrough the fuel filter intothe carburetor it would cause the motorcycleto stall. The dealership would have to replace the fuel tank. Consumer contacted harley davidsoncustomer service.several times. They suggested that consumerkeep more gas in the gas tankin the winter. Consumer maintained thathe kept the motorcycle inliving room in the winter andthere was no reason for this problem. Also, costumer servicesuggested that consumer change the fuel tank, and callinsurance company to get them to purchasea new fuel tank. He has only spoken to one person at customer service and they would not let him speak to anyone else. He first started noticing the rust inside the tank in march of 2005. The motorcycle stalledthree times. He had the motorcycle towed to the dealer, and they cleanedthe carburetor, and they told him this would happen again. Every 2500 miles consumer took the motorcycle todealerfor a tune up.

When accelerating the motorcycle will not move.when consumer opens the throttle completely, motorcyclethen lurches forward, posing a safety hazard to the rider and other vehicles/pedestrians.
