I brought the motorcycle to my dealer, north texas harley davidson, on march 13th to have a transmission oil leak fixed under the warranty which was set to expire on may 14th.the leak was repaired and i was charged the $50 deductible.i picked up the motorcycle at about 6:00 pm.i drove it the 4 - 5 miles from the dealer to my home and parked it in my garage.that evening, i began cleaning the motorcycle as the dealer did not clean it to my satisfaction.i found, to my complete astonishment, that a portion of the rear drive pulley was now apart and hanging from the rear axle.i was shocked by the fact that i could have been killed driving home by a manufacturing defect or damage caused while at the dealer.i certify to you that the motorcycle was not in that condition when i brought it into the dealer.the defective part marred the tire, scratched the aluminum portion of the rear axle, and damaged the belt.this type of component failure could have been life threatening as the hanging inside portion of the pulley rubbed against the sidewall of the tire and could have become lodged in the rear wheel spokes.at the time of this writing, neither the dealer or harley davidson was willing to do anything.harley davidson stated that it was not their problem but a dealer problem.the dealer stated that they were not responsible for parts that failed.
