After driving in a rain storm on the highway my interment cluster has been cutting out my speedometer rpm gauge stops working low fuel light comes on and engine light comes on..very unsafe problem.

While leading a group of bikes, using the cb radio push to talk (ptt) control to communicate with group ride leaders, my grip on the throttle control slipped, causing a sudden & immediate deceleration of the motorcycle.this resulted in a near miss collision from the bike behind me in the group (there was no brake light indicating i was decelerating).this issue relates directly to the 2014 my vehicles.previous year harley-davidson vehicles had the cb radio pttcontrol located on the left handlebar controls and posed no danger to losing throttle control while operating the cb radio ptt control.for some unexplained reason, harley-davidson chose to move the cb radio ptt control from the left handlebar controls where it had been located since the cb radio option has been available, to the right handlebar controls for the 2014 models equipped with the cb radio option.cb radio ptt operation is more than a momentary activation, requiring the control to be depressed long enough to complete a communication transmission to other members of the group ride, many times while attempting to up-shift, downshift, or simply maintain consistent road speed.having the ptt control on the same side as the throttle control presents a safety concern in that it is extremely difficult to maintain positive throttle control while trying to communicate with others during a group ride where relaying road hazard or directions information is a vital function to safe group riding.

A push to talk button for the cb communication system on all harleys for well over 10 years has been on the left side of the handle bar button cluster for bikes with cb and radio.on the new 2014 the button was switched with the cruise control button (which was moved to the left side) and moved to the right hand side control cluster.because of this and the need to continually grab the throttle control, the button is not as easy to reach while riding.the on/off switch for the bike is directly next to the throttle grip.because of this the on/off switch is vulnerable to being hit and turning off the bike while in motion, causing a huge safety issue.this happened at least 3 time during a ride on the above date and created some scary moments.i had to reduce use of the cb and change positions with a fellow rider to lead the group as i felt it was no longer safe for me to be able to communicate with the other riders and rear road captain.my suggestion is to require harley davidson to acknowledge the problem and switch the wiring back to where it belongs.both the cruise control and push to talk are apparently the same type of button (my opinion) in the way they operate, so it would be a matter of switching the wires in the harness.can you do anything about this and force a recall?

After a brief ride of only 5 miles, i parked the above vehicle in my garage.while i was upstairs the smoke alarms went off at my residence and when i opened the door to the garage, the vehicle had caught on fire underneath the seat.

The front spark plug wire on 2014 harley davidson touring motorcycles is routed along the left side of the frame under the fuel tank. At the point where the front spark plug wire emerges from beneath the fuel tank, the spark plug wire touches and rubs against the fuel tank. There have been numerous reports from owners of these motorcycles of the insulation being damaged over time by the continuous rubbing on the tank creating the potential for an electrical short circuit and fire at the fuel tank.the potential for a fire is further supported by the fact that the motorcycle leans to the left when on the kick stand. This positioning causes any fuel spill during re-fueling to flow to the area of the potential short circuit increasing the chance for a fire when the motorcycle is started after the spill.

Front spark plug wire is wearing through rubbing on the fuel tank.gone unchecked could possibly arc directly to fuel tank or arc after fueling (could cause a fire) i have looked at several other bikes same model and condition exists. Wire needs to be insulated or rerouted. It is not easily noticed by casual inspection.

This is a brand new 2014 hd flhtk limited.new with this model year, harley-davidson introduced their new twin-cooled technology.the motorcycle has a coolant system, whereby the exhaust ports inside each of the two engine cylinder heads are cool with antifreeze.after riding the motorcycle for the first time, i parked it in my garage and shut down the engine.coolant liquid (antifreeze) began to pour out of the coolant reservoir bottle from the overflow tube and onto the garage floor.this was the first incident but it has since occurred three times for a total of four times.antifreeze liquid is very slippery.if the coolant system has defects that could cause coolant to overflow onto the ground while operating (riding) the motorcycle, the rear tire would come in contact with the antifreeze and get on the rear tire.should the rear tire be exposed to the slippery antifreeze coolant liquid, such a situation could result in a loss of traction of the motorcycle and cause serious injury or even death.*ln

October 6, 2013, after riding 98 miles (odometer) on a newly purchased motorcycle, motorcycle coolant was noticed on the garage floors shortly after shutting down the motorcycle (30 min). Right lower faring cover was removed to inspect coolant reservoir with no apparent signs of coolant leakage. The coolant reservoir overflow tube appeared to be dry, however, the reservoir coolant was below the cold fluid level line.water pump cover was removed and showed accumulation of coolant, but i was not able to determine where leakage was coming from. Area was wiped clean to determine if coolant was leftover from factory. Motorcycle was taken into the dealer's service department on october 9, 2013. Upon, parking the motorcycle, more coolant was leaking from the water pump cover area. The service department notified me that the thermostat housing was leaking and parts to repair the motorcycle were not in stock at the dealership and must be ordered.waiting for parts and repair could be a week or more as harley davidson parts warehouse does not have this part in stock either. Apparently they seem to be on backorder.coolant leakage form the water pump/thermostat area will dump antifreeze in direct line of the rear tire as the vehicle is driven and unknown to the operator. This is a safety/health issue and potential design flaw that may result is accidents, injury, death or property damage.

Water pump failure, in motion on a 2 lane highway at speed.

Traveling at highway speed the check engine light and overheat light came on.i immediately pulled over and shut off the engine.after consulting with local hd dealer by phone was advised to have the bike towed to the dealer for repair (per hd memo).problem was determined to be a faulty water pump which caused the engine to overheat.dealer stated, and confirmed at other hd dealers, that they have not been able to keep these water pumps in stock due to the high failure rate.necessity to shut down the engine due to overheating caused an unsafe condition due to remaining alongside the highway until a tow vehicle could move bike.this is a known failure on 2014 hd motorcycles with "twin cooling" according to several dealers.once replaced, the new pump motors function properly.

On 04/24/14 driving at app. 45 mph and check engine light came on and lost power from rear cylinder. App. 30 to 45 secs. Later , light went off and power returned to rear cylinder. Went down road a few more miles and same thing occurred again. This time light stayed on and no power from rear cylinder. Checked code from engine and came up with po264 which is "rear injector high". Took to dealer next day. On 4/26/14 was driving at app. 65 mph same thing occurred 4 times. Took to dealer on 5/1/14. Got bike back same day from dealer. On 5/3/14 same thing occurred and had dealer pick up. On 5/5/14 picked bike from dealer and withing 3.5 miles from dealer traveling at app. 55 mph, same thing happened but this time i was in a lot of traffic and came within a foot of being struck by another vehicle due to the sudden power loss of the rear cylinder. Got bike home and trailered it to dealer on 5/6/14. Dealer contacted hd because they have checked everything they could. My concern is the safety factor from the loss of power and sudden reduction in speed in traffic.

Approximately 10,000 miles engine and thermostat lights came on.the sensor was changed.this lasted for 600 miles.different shop changed the sensor and water pump which lasted about 2000 miles.when returned to the shop, they retrieved the faulty code but could not get the engine to reproduce the error and would not look into issue.problem returned less than 100 miles later/at the present time, i ride the bike with the engine and temperature lights activated.

New engine overheating dumping coolant out of overflow tube underneath motorcycle and on to rear tire creating a safety risk.four overheating incidents within the first 400 miles of engine life.engine break in with malfunctioning cooling system creating excessive engine heat and risk of improper break in or engine damage.

Harley davidson model flthk motorcycle. Bought new motorcycle on 9-13-13 coolant leaking around the thermostat onto ground & on rear tire on 9-17-13 with 450 miles. Took todealer they replaced thermostat housing & had motorcycle until 9-26-13. Rode motorcycle & coolant bottle overflowed in parking lot at lowe's on 9-27-13. We took it back to dealer on 9-29-13 for the coolant leak & coolant getting on rear tire. Dealer cleaned bike & they topped off coolant & gave me a water bottle full of coolant to add to the level if i have any more problems and said they would contact harley on the issue. Next day 9-30-13 i topped off the coolant to the coolant line on the over flow bottle as instructed by the dealership. Rode that evening & same thing overflow bottle overflowing. I added more of the coolant they gave me & rode motorcycle home. Rode to dealership & pulled into the service bay & overfill bottle overfilled on their shop floor & on the rear tire. Dealer cleaned bike & they topped off coolant & refilled the water bottle full of coolant and told me to do the same thing they said to do before & add to the level if i have any more problems and said they would contact harley on the issue again. Couple days later i topped off the coolant overflow bottle again at home, hadn't rode too cold outside. 10-15-13 took motorcycle to dealership on the trailer wasn't going to ride any more do to coolant getting on rear tire & making it slippery on he road didn't want to take any chances. There are a lot of customers buying these motorcycles with coolant spewing out & getting on the rear tires. These motorcycles already have a recall on the hydraulic clutch & there is the safety hazard of coolant on the rear tires. Please help!

Engine coolant leaking from coolant pump casing. Inspected coolant reservoir which was pressured up and full(no air gap).after engine cooled, then coolant level below cold full level.dealer stated they could not reproduce episode.at 30 to 33 mph, there is a wobble/shimmy in the handle bars/front end.more so on deceleration, but have felt when turning.first time dealer stated they could not reproduce. Problem has continued.dealer stated they can reproduce.they rode other bikes of this model and all bikes handle this way, so they call this normal.the dealer gm told me if i brought it back for the same problem, he would claim they already investigated and write it off as normal.hd corporate office was no help and also said this is normal.

After delivery, i discovered while parked there was a cooling system leak near the front of the engine (~90 miles); if it were not addressed, such a leak has potential to deposit coolant on the rear tire and could contribute to a crash and ensuing injury.the dealer repaired the leak, it has subsequently returned and become more serious (discovered at 975 miles).the selling dealer advised me not to operate the motorcycle and retrieved it by trailer from my home.unfortunately, the technician servicing my bike had a crash on a test ride after service; it's apparent the sequence of events leading to the crash resulted from the other driver's actions, but at this point it's unknown if the coolant leak was a contributing factor in the technician's inability to avoid the accident.

The motorcycle leaks coolant from multiple locations, the coolant filler neck which was a service upgrade and should of been a recall, the thermostat is the next problem area, its made of plastic and it is prone to leak at the elbow into it, have also been told they leak from the coolant pump and hoses, most common is the thermostat.it gets on the ground and on the tires of the motorcycle, it is a known problem with the new twin cooled harley davidsons they are having a problem getting them fixed at the dealerships. Mine now leaks from the thermostat and the dealers do not have an updated part so the replacements parts can leak and this becomes a danger because you put your feet down and there is coolant under the bike it could slip out from under your feet , the bike weights 860 lbs !!!also if coolant gets on the tires whenyour riding you could crash and get hurt badly. If someone wants to contact me and take pictures of the leak on my bike that will be ok. Also if you research this you will find that i'm telling the truth about the problem. I contacted harley davidson customer service and was told there was not currently a fix and a supposed running change in the part number of thermostat or possible running change in manufacturing process. I cant chance something like this, its makes for a danger to me and the people around me, it makes the motorcycle unreliable and not safe. I need your help on this.

The coolant system leaks when in motion which spills the coolant in front of the rear tire. It also leaks while sitting parked. It has also overflowed and spilled all of the coolant onto the ground immediately after shutting off the engine. The dealership has tried to correct the problem four previous times and has been unsuccessful. The bike is currently at a harley davidson dealership service center again. I have owned the motorcycle three months and i have been unable to ride it for approximately one month due to being in the repair shop because of the leaks.

2014 harley davidson ultra limited.consumer writes in regards to engine vibration, throttle issues, clutch compensator and possible eitms failure.the consumer stated he noticed a vibration from the engine which was more than he expected, and an intermittent knock from the engine. The hd personnel said it was normal.the consumer stated he liked the power and ride as speed. However, when the throttle was rolled off, the bike lugged and surged and at idle there was significant vibration. Also, at idle there was a heavy. Loud intermittent clunking sound much like a pre-ignition knock. The consumer received different opinions of what the problem was. However, the consumer believed the twin overhead cam engine was an issue for the manufacturer.

I experienced coolant leakage after coming to a stop. The dealership spent a few days testing and making the repair. At approx.. 300 miles it did it again. Coolant is very slippery, if coolant gets on a motorcycles tires it would be all bad. From what i have been hearing, harley is having issues with coolant leaks on selected new bikes. This is a whole new design for harley davidson, used on 3 2014 harley davidson models. I really think the issue should be investigated.

The contact owns a 2014 h-d flhtk motorcycle. While attempting to park the vehicle, the radiator exploded. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the radiator hose was warped. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also mentioned that the cap on the coolant system detached twice and the fluid spilled when driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.

The contact owns a 2014 harley-davidson flhtk. The vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 15v427000 (equipment) at the illinois harley davidson dealer located at 9950 joliet rd, countryside, il 60525, (708) 387-8750). Shortly after the repair, the saddle bag disconnected with the pin loosening while the motorcycle was being driven at 35 mph. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact informed them that the recall remedy did not prevent the failure from occurring. The failure mileage was not available. Updated 10/17/17*lj

When applying the front brakes, under lightbraking situations, brake light does not turn on.i brought the motorcycle to the dealer with my concern and the dealer could not find a problem. Since i first noticed the brake light not coming on when the front brake was applied, i have been able to reproduce the event with consistent results.i have a strong concern that while holding the brake at a full stop and with no brake light active, that i am susceptible to a rear end collision.

Yesterday (04/03/16), i was traveling through northern va (on route #66), on my way home. Trying to take an exit to gas up, i wasn't able to shift at all. So i'm trying to pull over (very worried i might be hit by an another commuter in a very busy highway / 1st safety issue), to check the bike, i couldn't use my left floor board (affecting my balance / 2nd safety issue), because the shifter and shifter shaft were out of their position and laying on my floor board (these parts could have just flew away and hit another vehicle on the road / 3rd safety issue). Finally, i stopped the motorcycle, checked the bike, put it on 3rd gear, using linkage and made it to local hd dealership. After this scary experience a gentlemen at the dealership (just a customer with a similar motorcycle rushmore touring), told me that he had the same exact issue as well; thanks!

While i was riding my 2014 harley davidson flhtk motorcycle on a 35 mph two lane city street, the shifter shaft lever became stripped. I was unable to shift the motorcycle out of first gear after a stop and traffic was backing up behind and passing me creating somewhat of a hazard. Fortunately for me i was in an area where i was able to safely exit the roadway. Had this incident occurred on a roadway with limited access/sight lines and higher speeds an injury could have resulted.

The coolant system leaks when in motion which spills the coolant in front of the rear tire. It also leaks while sitting parked. It has also overflowed and spilled all of the coolant onto the ground immediately after shutting off the engine. Harley davidson had a voluntary recall on clutch failures in 2013 and supposedly they resolved this issue. I bought my bike brand new an at 1200 miles the clutch failed and i was unable to stop the bike. Luckily i was pulling in my driveway. The dealer fixed the clutch the next day. 600 miles later on june 7 i was on my way home on a rainy and wet road and the clutch failed again at a very busy intersection. Luck again was on my side as no traffic so i just kept going as i knew once past this intersection i was on backroads rest of the way home. If it were not for me being a skilled rider i would had to lay this bike down in order to stop on a wet road. This needs to be addressed immediately the local dealership reported to me with my bike they now have 4 bikes in the shop with same clutch failures. Someone is going to get hurt or killed if this is not fixed.... You can not merely stop a bike easily while rolling by hitting the kill switch and if there is a passenger aboard this then has the bike top heavy and most people can not hold a bike that weighs over 900 lbs and the passenger up by abruptly killing the engine to stop.

This 2014 hd flhtk had the hydraulic clutch serviced in october 2013 under the massive hd clutch recall program. However, i inspected the bike and informed the dealer that the clutch fluid low. It was below the sight glass on the master cylinder (acutely at the bottom of the sight glass). I was informed that the cylinder was full and cannot be filled to the sightline because of the design.on november 15, 2013 driving 40 miles from home at 45 mph when i approached a traffic light and started to down shift. Shifting became harder and had trouble getting into lower gears. I turned around and headed for home cutting my trip short. Within a few more miles, i lost all ability to shift gears and almost hit the back of a truck stopped at a traffic light. Luckily i was able to turn into an abandoned parking lot and stall the engine to stop the motorcycle. A phone call to the dealer was made by cell phone and they could not get out to pick up the bike for several hours. The air temperature 41 degrees and out in the open. I took a chance and kept pulling/pumping the clutch handle to build enough fluid pressure to be able to shift gears and drive the bike along side the road to make it back to the dealer. Dealer/service stated they rode the bike five mile and had no shifting issues. I explained if you pump the lever you can feel the pressure build and the clutch works. Dealer agreed as they pumped the lever and felt the same thing and that was strange. I reiterated my concerns about the fluid level. If the bike parked on a slop and on it's jeffy stand, the low fluid level could lead to problems as the clutch wore and fluid level drops. Hd's clutch serious problem needs to be investigated.

I received a letter of recall for this motorcycle. In the letter it states that the front wheel may lock up. Harley will not provide transportation of this motorcycle to the nearest harley davidson dealer. I am expected to ride this dangerous motorcycle to the dealer for repairs or cover the cost of a wrecker service.

The 2014 harley-davidson service manual touring models (99483-14) contains a procedure for brake fluid replacement which does not require taking the vehicle to the dealer unless air is introduced into the brake system.subsequent to the publication of this manual, some 2008-2011 harley-davidson motorcycle models were involved in an nhtsa recall for abs brake issues.after the recall was issued, harley-davidson now requires that all year model motorcycles with abs have the brake fluid replacement performed using the digital technician ii (hd-48650), which is not available to owners.the digital technician ii activates the abs module during a brake fluid replacement to ensure all contimanated brake fluid is flushed from the abs module and brake lines.as i stated, the 2014 service manual does not require this step.harley-davidson allows owners to purchase service manuals in order for owners to perform their own service and repairs to their harley-davidson motorcycles without having to take the motorcycles to the dealer for service and repairs.therefore, owners would have no way of knowing that a critical brake service procedure has been changed which, if done as outlined in the older service manual, could end up causing serious injury or death to the the rider and/or passenger.i feel it is negligent of harley-davidson to substantially change this procedure without notifying owners.

The front brake lever hydraulic pressure switch, which activates the brake light and disables the cruise control, fails to activate before significant pressure is applied. The brakes begin to function long before the brake light comes on or the cruise disconnects. This causes a problem when stopped, as the brake light doesn't come on when using the front brake alone, unless serious pressure is applied to the lever, far more than normally required to hold the bike stopped against a slope. Also, cruise fails to disengage if only the front lever is gently pulled; the bike begins to slow considerably before the cruise disengages.brake stopping action is normal. Rear brake foot pedal works properly and the brake light comes on normally, that is with light pressure, about the same time as braking action begins. The dealer (shop manager [xxx] , marietta ga) compared my brake action to several other 2014 bikes and he said they all are like that. But it's not normal and it causes me distress that it doesn't work properly. I want my brake light to come on when i pull the lever. I worry that i'll get hit by a car which doesn't think i'm stopped. I want my cruise to disengage when i pull the lever. This switch is a common part with all 2014 touring model h-d motorcycles, and maybe earlier models.

Faulty abs system. Myself and many of my friends are very concerned about the abs systems on our harleys. The recall covers from 2008-2011. We are not quite sure of why you would let harley continue to manufacture motorcycles with a faulty system that would allow brakes to lock up instead of the system most everyone else uses where the abs is just disabled but still have normal brake functions except for the abs. I was a mechanic for many years and was around when the first abs systems came about. I never had this problem before something has to be done before more people are hurt.

Hitachi cable indiana has been producing brake hose parts for harley davidson motorcycles that do not pass "whip" test per fmvss for several years and has been providing false data for test results.

The front brakes make a terrible noise when applied. Not all the time, but very often. While brake stopping is currently normal, i have never heard this kind of noise on any of the dozens of motorcycles i have owned over the last 40+ years. I have had the bike at the dealer numerous times and they say they are unable to recreate the noise. Yet it happens almost every time i ride it. I even provided them and h-d factory with video of it happening over and over. The dealer (hellbender h-d, marietta ga) said they will not correct the problem. H-d factory customer service blamed me for the problem, saying it was because i was not using the rear brake. This is ridiculous, as i have use coordinated braking all my life, and besides, no brake system should make this noise under any circumstances. I am concerned that there is a materials problem with the rotors or calipers, or that a manufacturing error has caused a defect that will prevent the motorcycle from stopping. The dealer has refused to replace any parts (except brake pads) and refused to swap a wheel assembly for diagnostic purposes. They simply do not want to spend a penny, even if it makes the bike safe for me to ride.

Make turns and general operation of motorcycle becomes a problem when trying to use cb control button and maneuver the motorcycle and us cb-squelch. Possibly dropping motorcycle and causing and accident. Should be on left handle bar control not right. Cruise should be on right side with throttle. Accidents are going to be caused because of this issue.

The contact owns a 2014 harley-davidson electra glide ultra (flhtk). While driving 15 mph and making a left turn, the saddle bag fell off the vehicle. The contact was able to retrieve the saddle bag and drove home. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no remedy for the failure. The motorcycle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 34,000.

With cruise control set at highway speeds, as i approached slower moving vehicles i tapped the front brake like i have done so many times before; but this time the cruise did not cancel.i tapped the front brake several more times and hard enough to make the front end dive. But the bike kept accelerating.i took quick action to shut the cruise off.after getting clear of other traffic i tried to duplicate the problem.i was able to cancel cruise with the rear brake but not the front.24 hrs later i went for a ride and this time everything worked normally.i was able to cancel cruise control but just tapping the front brake lever at least 6 times.
