Read complaints for GMC YUKON (2003)

On 9/16/14, i got into my car and started the engine. Upon starting the engine, both airbags blew up. There was no accident or impact, they just blew up. There was nobody in the passenger seat and that one blew up too. I reported this incident to gm and they investigated it and have denied paying to repair damages. They say there wascorrosion in the airbag sensor. Nowhere in the owners manual does it say that i am responsible for maintaining these connections. This is a life safety device that should be assembled with the highest level of care a precision. This is not the responsibility or the owner or operator, it is faulty equipment and should be the responsibility of gm. Now i have a car that i cannot drive, it has two blown airbags. It would appear that gm has had this problem ongoing, there are lots of complaints out there and it needs to be addressed. I find it hard to believe that corrosion could cause deployment of airbags at any moment. I could have been driving when this happened and could have caused a serious accident and or injury.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle was involved in a t-bone collision at 10mph and the airbags did not deploy.there was no pre-braking prior to impact.although the occupants were wearing seatbelts, minor injuries were sustained.the vehicle was totaled by the insurance agency.the police were on the scene and a report was taken.the vehicle was not seen by a dealer for inspection.

Takata recall

Dt*: the contact stated while driving there was a squealing noise that appeared to be coming from the brakes.during a normal maintenance service, the service dealer determined the squealing noise was normal.on april 4, an appointment was made with the dealerregarding the vehicle's brakes.the dealership determined the vent solenoid had failed internally and the vent solenoid and bracket parts had to be replaced.the contact was told by dealership that until work could be performed the car was driveable.on april 5th, the vehicle was in an accident.while driving 55 mph on wet roads, the brakes failed which caused the contact to loose control of the vehicle.while the contact attempted to manuver the vehicle to the side of the road, the vehicle hit a pole and slide into a ditch.during the accident the air bags did not deploy.all occupants were wearing seatbelts however injuries were sustained.the contacts had lower back injuries.an mri was performed showing a dislocated disk to the lower back.other injuries occurred to two other passangers ages 12 and 7; minor head injuries.a police report was filed and accident report was processed with the dealership. After theaccident, the vehicle was taken to a body shop for repairs. Additional repairs still need to be made to brakes and airbags.

While driving on a residential street consumer fell asleep behind the wheel and hit another vehicle on the front driver'sside.slight injuries were sustained by the passengers of the other vehicle. Consumer suffered rib contusions even though seat belts were worn.none of the air bags deployed.consumer was given a citation by the police that arrived on the scene.

Driver side air bag did not deploy in collision.the vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier on the highway.the air bag deployed after impact and did not explode outward, but fell out of it's encasement in the steering wheel. *sc

Consumer stated that the dashboard was peeling.took the vehicle todealer for repairs. In the process, the air bags were damaged. The repairs were done butproblem recurred. Air bags will not deploy.

While driving vehicle lost power. The acceleration pedal vibrated. Consumer was able to coast to the side of the road. Took the vehicle to the dealership, and dealer stated that it was caused by restriction in the fuel sender screen. Thishappened at least nine times on different occasions.

Speedometer randomly sticks, or accelerates to maximum. Oil pressure gauges max out as well.very dangerous to drive with no concept of speed, and also very illegal.when i stop the vehicle, i can turn off the engine.if i continue to turn the key 90% (but not enough to start the engine), and let off, the gauges will drop up to 5%.after 5 minutes of resetting the instruments, the gauges will reset. However, the next time i drive i might be going through a school zone at 40 instead of 25, but my speedometer says 80.clearly unsafe.

Losing power throughout my vehicle. Started with the overhead heating/cooling controls. Vehicle will lock itself without any keys when doors are shut. (it has locked me out on numerous occasions) worked its way back towards the rear losing overhead lights. Heater/ac does not work in the rear. Passenger side rear door window or seat belt does not work. Four wheel drive goes crazy. And now the main (front) heating and cooling controls are going ape [xxx] crazy. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact stated that the instrument cluster failed to function. The lights on the instrument cluster failed to illuminate and none of the gauges functioned. In addition, the digital display was not functioning due to the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure and the vehicle was to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

When the vehicle headlamps or park lamps were turned on, the electric trailer brakes would not respond when the vehicle brakes were applied. *ph the consumer felt that gm should cover the expenses. *scc. The dealer stated the brake wiring harness from the previous year was not compatible with the current year model because the electrical systems were different and a new wiring harness needed to be purchased.

Speedometer reads incorrectly it just sits at zero, even at highway speeds.very erratic needle movement.

Speedometer and other instruments are inaccurately reading.speedometer ranges from 25 - 70 mph overstated.fuel gauge remains well in excess of full until about 7 gallons are left in tank.oil pressure is registering well to the right of the highest reading.problem began during cold temperature (around 10 degrees) and improves with temperature increases but has not resolved itself.appears to be the same problem as gm special policy adjustment 07187a.the vin is within the category listed by the policy; however, the vehicle is older than 10 years but fits within the mileage restrictions since the vehicle has less than 64,500 miles.this appears to be a known defect which clearly impacts safety. The following link describes the known issue:http://www.gmspeedometerrecall.com/gmc-speedometer-settlementlocation of vehicle is kansas city, ks since i am currently in the process of relocation.

I own a 2003 gmc yukon, last year the instrument dash cluster started to fail along with a continuous loud dinging from the warning bell and the air conditioning would stop working along with the windows powering off, shortly after i received a letter from gmc describing this exact defect, recently i contacted gmc regarding this issue and was greeted by a call center in the philippines, the man told me to take the car to a gmc dealership and they would take care of the issue, after i got the car to the dealership and started diagnostics i called back to let them know and they then informed me that i would have to pay for the service. I was outraged that they had actually pulled a bait and switch on a repair???, after being left on hold for over an hour while the "customer service rep" tried to find a supervisor so they could figure out what to do, he finally got back on the phone and said i would have to keep holding, i then demanded to speak to a gmc representative in the states, while on hold for another half hour he returned and said i would be contacted in 24 hours by a usa rep. After three hours waiting for my car it was finally released to me free of charge, ( for the diagnostics) but still not fixed.i received a call from an american gmc rep, a few days later and while they danced around the issue and who should fix it, they kept calling me back to see if i found a dealership to get the issue diagnosed, i tried two dealerships and both indicated they did not want to help, i am now stuck with what is a dangerous defect on my $30,000 dollar family car!i bought this car for it's safety and comfort and now i'm afraid for my family to ride in it, can't trade it in, can't sell it and no one will fix this re-call issue.

2003 gmc yukon; speedometer and gas gauge do not work properly.

Dt: contact states while driving approximately 70 mph vehicle loses complete power.the service dealer states the vehicle has an electrical problem, and they will try to repair the problem.service dealer replaced the navigation system, thinking this was the remedy, but the problem recurred.vehicle is at the service dealer, andhas been their on numerous occasions.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact became aware that the speedometer failed when cited by a police officer for speeding. The police officer advised that the contact was traveling 55 mph but the speedometer displayed that the vehicle was traveling 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic and located the failure at the speedometer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but would not assist with the repair. The failure mileage was 119,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.

Speedometer in 2003 gmc yukon acting erratically. Inaccurate reporting of speed on speedomoter. Truck shows 50 mph when stopped. This is very unsafe and cant be trusted. I have read on the internet where there are numerous complaints. Gmc needs to issue a recall on this issue.

Left turn signal: when signaling left, the turn signal indicators (arrows) on the instrument panel display both arrows (left and right) as though the hazard button has been used. Took to the dealer and they indicated it was the turn signal switch. They replaced the turn signal switch at my expense (301.23 plus 42.50 to diagnose). Ten minutes down the road for a lane change to the left, i signaled and the same thing happened (both arrows flashing). I have no idea what the cars around me see in regards to my lights. I have notified the dealer.

While driving 65 mph and pulling a trailer vehicle stalled.prior to stalling there was some hesitation and jerking as if not getting fuel to engine.the dealer took vehicle to dealership in arizona, and fuel pump had to be replaced.this was the second occurrence for fuel pump problem.also, experienced steering problem.the steering would be sticking, andit would jam when making turns either left or right.the mechanic at dealership had to replace a seal in column shaft of steering wheel.the light clunk noise in the steering, low voltage, and insufficient fuel pressure on aceleration intermittently. *sc

I have had ongoing problems with my 2003 gmc yukon.it started in september of 2004 with my rear air not working, it was inoperable; and, a popping noise in my steering, the steering felt loose.the rear air was temporarily fixed in october of 2004 but continues to be a problem now in september of 2005, one year later.i've never really had rear air since i bought the vehicle, it works occasionally.i still have no rear air and vehicle has been in the shop more than 7 times for this problem.it took until january of 2005 to fix the steering problem.i've also had problems with my speedometer, which quit working in december of 2004 and the part was on back order and i had to take my vehicle in and leave for the dealership to send the speedometer to california for reprogramming, this problem was fixed in january of 2005.

I have heard of several accidents because of reduced engine power. It slows the vehicle down and people behind them rearended them because it is a sudden drop in speed and there is no time to slam on the brakes please get this fixed before a child is injured or killed thank you.

Speedometer on 2003 yukon fails. Gmc will not stand behind it even though there is a website www.speedometersettlement.com that gives vague details. Was told by gm that mileage too great. This is a known problem with their speedometers as evidenced by the web site.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, she noticed that the speedometer and tachometer displayed an erroneous reading of zero. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.updated 04/17/14 ma

I have a 2003 gmc yukon.after having a daytime running light burn out, i removed the lens and found significant charring of the light bulb socket.it was burnt so bad that it mostly crumbled as i tried to remove the old bulb.i took off the other side to check it, and the condition of the socket was the same.thus, both the left and right daytime running light sockets were burnt.the excessive heat from the bulb also distorted and ruined both of my lenses on the vehicle.i took the car to the dealer for repair and the service technician reported that these cars have lots of problems with heat on these light sockets.i'm shocked by this, and wonder how many car fires have resulted from this problem.

When the vehicle was started in the early morning all lightsappeared on the dashboard intermittently and would last about 30 minutes.the dealer inspected the vehicle several times, and replaced the switch sensor twice, but the problem recurred.*sc

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the speedometer increased to an abnormal reading of 80 mph but the vehicle did not increase in speed. The vehicle was not taken to dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that there were no recalls for the vehicle. No assistance was provided. The failure and the current mileage was 62,295.

Hello, when im driving down the road the reduced engine light comes on. This is very dangerous since it also happens on the highway. When i shut the car off and let it sit for 3 or 4 min and restart it will happen again about 2 miles down the road. Gmcsays they know about the issue but they do not have a fix for it. I have taken it toseveral shops and they say that gm says the same thing ( we know about the issue but do not have a fix for it). There should be a recall on these vehicles do to this happening and could cause a major accident. There are alot of other ppl having this same issue.thanks

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle experienced independent deceleration and the reduced engine power warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was previously taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump, spark plugs, transmission, and alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and transferred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Speedometer not working correctly, cluster is malfunctioning . Also, both heating and air conditioner boxes (front and back) are not working correctly. Vents are not opening and are clicking,so the defroster isn't working. Cd player is not working . All electrical problems.

Speedometer sometimes reads zero when do 70 mph and sometimes reads lower than actual speed.

Speedometer needle is erratic and at times stays on zero while traveling.often displays a speed far less than the vehicle is actually traveling.estimate to replace cluster is close to $1,000.00.i am finding out that this is a very widespread and well know problem.recall soon?

Speedometer was erratic then stopped working completely (reads 0 at any speed) on my '03 yukon.

Dash gauges inaccurate - especially speedometer - safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon.the speedometer on the vehicle shows speeds of over 100 mph and never less than 30 mph.as a result, the contact never knows the actual speed he is driving.the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times.the first time, the vehicle was still under warranty and the dealer could not duplicate the failure.the contact received a notice from gmc regarding the failure and stated that the vehicle had to have 70,000 miles or less in order to be repaired.he returned to the dealer and was informed that there were no previous failure reports.they advised the contact to bring the vehicle back when it began malfunctioning again.the failure has worsened and is unable to be repaired.the failure mileage was 25,000 and current mileage was 125,000.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon.the contact stated that the speedometer did not function correctly.occasionally, the speedometer would not work at all.the other instrument panel gauges have begun to malfunction and display inaccurate readings.when the contact placed fuel in the vehicle, the fuel gauge dial would stop a little below the full line; therefore, she never knew how much fuel was in the vehicle.the contact consulted gmc and they acknowledged the failure, but stated that there were no recalls.gmc wanted to charge her $450 for the repair.the failure mileage was 42,000.

I own a 2003 gmc yukon and it seems to have a problem with the instrument panel. Meaning the speedometer along with the battery gauge. The speedometer works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.my battery gauge works properly sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I went to my local dealer and without even checking into the problem he told me that i have to purchase a new instrument cluster panel. He said he has had to replace many other ones also. This problem started with the speedometer then it moved to my battery gauge. The problem has been getting worse. It has been going on now for about 8,000 miles. I have 47,273 miles on my yukon. It started just after my warranty expired.

My vehicle is a 2003 gmc yukon.the speedometer is not registering, and when (the gauge) is trying to operate, the vehicle hesitates while accelerating and the gauge does the same as well as the gas gauge. I know all my dashboard gauges need to be checked for malfunction. This began two weeks ago, i called doug henry of farmville to check my vehicle for recalls, only to find out it is not listed.my husband has a 2003 gmc yukon xl, he received a letter describing this problem and got information to get it fixed free of charge.i am not responsible for this problem and i believe there are other vehicles affected in this particular recall.

It started this fall maybe closer to winter.but all of a sudden the speedo stuck at about 70 miles an hour.at first i thought it was a glitch but when it happened more and more now i know that it is a problem.the safety issue is there are others out there having the same problem and when you think you are going a certian mph and your really not some might get frustrated with others even though they may be in the wrong.i can just see all the road rage happening because they think they are goind 70 and they are really going 80 or more.i have been watching my tachometer but i dont know what others are doing.this needs to be addressed.because i am being told that it will cost 600+ to fix.how many of those having this problem are going to spend that kind of money to fix a speedometer?

Speedometer unreliable, drops slowly from highway speed to 0 while still on highway going full speed.fuel gage also erratic.service 4wd pops up in display and once vehicle is cut off service message is gone, shows up once a month or so.steering box replaced once at my expense, continues to make noise and now feels erratic.

2003 gmc yukon.instrument panel faulty.gives incorrect speed, incorrect rpm, incorrect oil pressure.can be going freeway speeds and speedometer will register 0 mph at times.

The speedometer started slowly decreasing while on the interstate.it finally got to zero and quit working for the duration of the trip.it did this sporadically for about 2 weeks - sometimes it decreases, sometimes it increases. Now the speedometer, when it works, usually shows 70 mph or higher.it registers a speed whether the vehicle is moving or not.all the other gauges seem to be working correctly.we now monitor our speed by the tachometer.we have not gotten an estimate on repair hoping gm will issue a recall.

I have a 2003 gmc yukon with approx. 89,000 miles. All of a sudden the speedometer began acting erratic. Showing 60 mph when stopped.

Received recall notice for instrument panel cluster.recall would only be covered if instrument panel cluster failed or within 7 years or 70,000 miles.instrument panel cluster failed exactly as described in recall at approx. 167,000 miles.only reason we know it failed was a speeding ticket was issued for 58 mph in a 45 mph zone.car was being driven at 45 mph.certified gmc service center confirmed instrument cluster was faulty.cost to repair was $515.62 plus cost of speeding ticket.i feel gmc should cover cost of repair.

Speedometer just stopped working after not reflecting correct speeds on highway....have read very similar accounts on the web.

Speedometer is malfunctioning.reads speed incorrectly and "sticks" at 70 mph when stopped, moves above 120 mph when travel speed is only ~40 mph.

I received a letter on a re-call on the instrument panel gauge may stick, flutter, or become inoperative. This may cause inaccurate readings, including the speedometer and fuel gauge. Manufacturer will replace at no charge if your under the warranty 7 years or 70,000 miles which i fill is very cleaver for them.

The needles for my speedometer and engine temp. Both sit in the 6 o'clock position and are completely inoperative. Speedometer has been broke since december of 2005 and the engine temp gauge broke october 2007.

2003 yukon.tach stuck on 5000 - 6000 rpm.speedometer sticking and decreasing on highway.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon.the contact received a letter that stated she would experience failures with her vehicle's instrument panel gauges.the dial may stick, flutter, or become inoperable, which may result in inaccurate readings from the speedometer and fuel gauge.she called the dealer and was informed that her vehicle was over the 70,000 mile or seven year limit.the current and failure mileages were 89,437.updated 01-10-08. Updated 01/08/08

The instrument panel gauges are sticking the odometer is not working at all the oil gauge is pinned and the other gauges also stick. The odometer and oil gauge is all the time andnothing has been done to repair the problem gm has informed me that they will not help me get this very dangerous defect repaired. This is a defect in the panel cluster not wear and tear or anything we have done.

My speedometer on my '03 yukon does not work correctly.when i'm not even moving at times it tells me that i'm going 60 mph.

The speedometer will get stuck or go up and get stuck at a certain speed even when the vehicle is not in motion.when you turn off the engine it will remain at that speed and when you restart the vehicle and begin motion, the speedometer will increase thus resulting in inaccurate speed.

While driving my 2003 gmc yukon the speedometer began acting erratically. Travel at 55 - 60 mph shows 60 -120 mph it is now stuck at 70 mph while parked with the ignition off.

Driving down the freeway and my speedometer stuck at seventy, then went wouldn't drop when slowing down. Then when stopped it was at seventy. Then when i went to the store and was going about thirty, it registered i was going 105. When turned off it stays up at around 70 to 80.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon.the contact was pulled over by the police for driving 90 mph, however, the speedometer indicated 50 mph.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 60,000.

2003 gmc yukon - speedometer stopped working.this appears a common problem and is a safety concern as it is extremely difficult to monitor and maintain speed appropirately.

Complete loss of power on the highway while driving 65 mph.*phthe dealer diagnosed the problem as a fuse and faulty fuel pump but could not gaurantee that the problem would not recurr.

Wife driving truck to work " reduced engine power", message came on the dash, and also said traction control was disabled. Power was reduced gradually to ten miles per hour. She floored the gas, nothing. Turned it off, restarted it, nothing. Engine light and traction disabled lighted were illuminated. Also the rear mirror temperature display flickers all the time. Drl burn out almost daily. Gmcs have major electrical issues before people start dying. Imagine a car shutting down on you while on the highway. That an accident waiting to happen.the rear wiper works when it feels like working, there is also a message about fixing the ride control. For all the bail money gmc got, they should recall these mistakes they made.

My brakes would engage but they will not disengaged and my brakes are buringing and smelling like burnt rubber. Brakes are also sticking. The electrical system keeps blinking on and off. Replace fuse but still not working. Not displaying the correct speed on dash board i'm going slower than the speed say.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. While driving various speeds, the reduced engine power and stability system disabled indicators illumianted on the instrument panel. The vehicle suddenly experienced a loss in acceleration. The failure recurred for a span of three years. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

"traction system" on 2003 gmc yukon is faulty and causes vehicle to suddenly lose momentum in traffic.

2003 gmc yukon awd w/ stabilitrak. 40,000 mi.: when accelerating from a stop, the "traction active" dash display will very often come on, the powertrain disengages and i have to let up on gas until transmission re-engages.this has been occurring since september, numerous times a day.i have almost been rear-ended, since the drivers behind me presuppose i will continue accelerating.a gm dealer, after exam & diagnostics, could find no problem, even after being advised about possible "wheel corrosion."in the meantime of course, it continues.an entry in edmunds "car space" has referred me to "document id#1819672 202 gmc truck gmc k sierra 4wd; subject: product safety - front wheel speed sensor corrosion #05068b - (04/21/2006).this seems to be a dangerous, serious problem which should merit a recall.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact stated that the battery drained prematurely. The contact replaced the battery several times and the alternator was also replaced; however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection who located the failure at the engine electrical wires. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in the manufacturer battery drain replacement recall 02066. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Found a broken off exhaust manifold bolt on driveway 3 years ago. Found another broken one today. Both are from the same side. Now instead of 6 bolts i have 4 bolts. This is causing an exhaust leak, engine light and emissions problems that harm the environment.this is an ongoing problem per this article:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yg6wlbnzgi.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. While driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was coasted to the shoulder of the road. The engine restarted after several attempts, but the failure recurred. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

Car looses power and goes into reduced engine power. Unable to drive over 2mph. Happens at random times, in all modes of travel, uphill, downhill, from a stop and acceleration. The worst was when it happened going 55mph on a highway.two separate mechanics have been unable to pinpoint the problem even after $1,300 worth of work and new parts. It's been happening since mid october 2019

Vehicle loses power.

For the past few months my car stalls while driving i've replaced fuel pump. Knock sensors coils and plugs and it still does it and does not throw a trouble code.

The factory installed head gasket has been said to be a defective product and needs to be replaced.this apparently is a "common" problem.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon.while driving approximately 50 mph the vehicle began to lose power. He pulled to the side of the road and restarted the engine to resumenormal operation.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection.the technician was unable to duplicate the failure.no repairs were made.the failure mileage was 60,000.the current mileage was 85,000.

While driving overfifteen minutes consumerheard a noise coming from the engine, it sounded like dripping water.vehicle had been several times at the dealership, and dealership could not duplicate or correct the problem.

Reduced engine power. Truck goes into traction control while driving or turning stability control is off. Check engine lite goes on and off while driving mass flow sensor keeps coming on.

We came home from vacation to find our 2003 yukon's battery dead.my husband jumped it and took it for a ride.it wouldn't run over 20 mph.the "reduced engine power" light is on.he shut it off and it's running ok right now.i check out a couple of forums on this problem.i'm afraid to drive it because endless numbers of consumers report the same problem coming back even when they have had it serviced by the dealer.this problem seems to come without any notice to the driver and has almost cause accidents.several people have claim to be on the highway going the speed limit when their car suddenly drops to 20-30 mph.gmc does not seem to be overly concerned with this problem and has no recalls on it.

When starting the vehicle the consumerheard a ticking noise coming from the engine. The consumer will make contact with the dealership about this issue. Please provide any additional information.

As i was driving on 95n of college park, md, my vehicle power seem to shutdown on the highway and the "reduce power engine" message appeared in my instrumentation panel.fortunately i was close to the emergency pull off of the left lane to get out of traffic.i turned the truck off and back on, and the message went a way.i was able to continue to with my journey.however, just recently, it has done it again, this time my speed was around 35mph.once again, i turned it off, than on and the message went away and i had power in my acceleration again.this is very dangerous. I'm taking it back in to the mechanic to have them look at it.

The consumer indicated that gmc manufactured a large number of 5.3 liter engines with either under sized pistons or over sized combustion cylinders which resulted in piston slap.the noise is very loud when the engine is cold but after a period of 10-15 minutes the noise goes away.*la the consumer indicated that the manufacturer would issue an extended warranty to consumer's who contacted them about this problem.the consumer feels the manufacturer should either replace the engine or repair the problem.

While driving 40 mphvehicle stalled and lostpower.

Engine ticking on startup, lasts for 5 minutes currently - longer on cold starts or after letting the car sit overnight. Progressively has gotten louder and longer in duration since reporting the failure last year to the dealership. This piston "slap" noise described appears to bemanufacturer defect in 5.3 liter engine where shipment of engines withcylinder heads that are oversized or pistons shipping as undersized is causing warping on piston head, hence the reason why the noise progressivly gets louder and longer lasting as time progresses. Original dealership has documented the report of the noise with no result or attempt to fix. Customer has purchased extended warranty prior to the evidence of this failure, at time of purchase. Several dealerships have directed customer to file a direct complaint with manufacturer as engine has been diagnosed that prolonged wear with the "slap" that is causing the ticking noise will cause serious damage to engine over time. Only suggested recourse is to replace engine with 5.3 that shipped after september 2002 and was not manufactured from one of three gm plants responsible for the manufacture of the defective engines.

While drivingat california freewayat 55mphandwith no warning vehicle shut off, causing consumer to pull off the road.

Engine shut down at 65 mph on expressway lose of steering, difficulty with brakes was nearly in an accident trying to get to side of expressway.

I have a 2003 gmc yukon suv with a 5300 engine.the idle is very rough.the dealer says "its the nature of the beast".i also have a 2003 gmc yukon xl, with the same engine and it does not do this.are they shirking their responsibilities?

I have a 2003 gmc yukon with approx. 89,000 miles. All of a sudden the speedometer began acting erratic. Showing 60 mph when stopped.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon.while stopped at a light, the front headlight caught fire.there were no warning indicators prior to the failure.gmc stated that they would have a dealer inspect the vehicle and repair it at the owner's expense.the vehicle has not yet been repaired.the failure and current mileages were 123,000.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's driver side day time running lights kept burning out.the contact expressed the socket part of the bulb overheated and malformed.the dealer was contacted but provided no solution.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection.the manufacturer was not contacted.

Consumer complained about aheadlight problem.theycame on and worked intermittently.but when vehicle was turning a corner headlightsflickered on and off. Dealership stated they coudn'tresolve the problem, butgmc was aware of the problem, but there was nothing they could do.

Fuel gauge on 2003 yukon will show empty then full randomly and after fuel is added randomly (yukon is on level ground). Gauge also sticks. January 3, 2008, i took the yukon to the dealer. They could not duplicate. It has happened again december 2, 2008.

Driving 60 mph on a 20 mile bridge, theengine failed (engine light and traction control light were on. No power steering or power brakes. Nothing appeared to be overheated. 2 hrs later it started, 5 minutes later it killed again. Towed to nearest dealership. They road tested it and car failed again. Found 1 broken wire inside wire insulation. Repaired. Picked up car and it failed 1 mile later, took it back to dealership on "reduced engine power". They found 2 more broken wires. Replaced harness. One week later it happened again. After brief wait it started and ran for another day until i could get it to the dealership purchased from. They could not find anything wrong. Two weeks later it failed again. Tow truck took it to another dearlership. They changed another part relative to the fuel system and said it "may" be fixed. I refuse to pick it up or drive it again; it's dangerous and undependable. Have asked gm for another car and i am waiting for their response.

The customer complaint and request for reimbursement for 2003 gmc yukon.***no answer required***. *mr (faulty sender was giving an inaccurate reading)the vehicle stalled at 80 mph.this may be a common problem in these vehicles.the vehicle registered 1/4 tank at the time of the incident.the fuel sending module was replaced. *sc

Gas gauge does not correctly reflect what is in the tank, have run out of gas or come close quite a few times due to incorrect readings, it will show 1/2 full and drop rapidly within minutes to empty.i've taken it in they said it was the gauge cluster in the dash so they replaced it, it happened again, took it back in and of course at that time it was out of warranty they said they have not heard of any problems at the dealership in regards to this problem and that they assume the sending unit is bad and would replace it if i paid for it, why this wasn't done the 1st time under warranty is beyond me, but i've noticed on the news that other vehicles are having similar problems and searching the web i see i'm not alone.they need to step up and fix the problem.

Complete loss of power on the highway while driving 65 mph.*phthe dealer diagnosed the problem as a fuse and faulty fuel pump but could not gaurantee that the problem would not recurr.

When filling the vehicle with fuel a leak has developed underneath.consumer has scheduled an appointment with the dealer.

The needles for my speedometer and engine temp. Both sit in the 6 o'clock position and are completely inoperative. Speedometer has been broke since december of 2005 and the engine temp gauge broke october 2007.

2003 gmc yukon denali xl engine stalled while driving. *mr the fuel pump failed. *sc

*sc

I have a 2003 gmc yukon. It now has 20,000 miles. Gm has had to replace the fuel pump twice so far and will have to every time i run low on gasoline.it seems that the pump is located in the gas tank and the pump depends on the tank having enough liquid to keep the electric pump cool. Otherwise it overheats and burns up. I can't believe such dumb engineering. I'm sure that i am not the only consumer who has had this trouble.the service people make no secret that you must keep at least a quarter tank at all times to keep the pump from burning up.

2003 gmc yukon won't start with a quarter tank of gas. Consumer states that dealer stated that they would bring the tank down and replace the fuel pump but they never did.

Dt:contact stated the speedometer and gas gauge failed. The needle on the speedometer moved, but it said 100 mph when going only 5 mph.he took the vehicle to the dealership, and they stated it wasa common problem and usually happened at 30,000 miles.they were able to diagnose the problem without looking at the vehicle.he has not contacted the manufacturer and the vehicle has not been repaired.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact stated that the tail gate would intermittently fail to open. The tail gate and the tail gate window were jammed shut and would not release from the interior or exterior latches. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The keyless remote also failed to open the tail gate. The contact was concerned since there was nomanual release on the tailgate in the event of a crash or any incident where passengers would have to exit the vehicle from the rear. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. The current mileage was 175,000.

While driving down the interstate at about 70 mph my hood flew up and crashed into my windshield. After investigating why... The rivets pulled out of the hood allowing it to release. Took it to the dealership and were no help at all. Turned it in to my insurance company for repairs. This is really hard to swallow when its not your fault and could have been worse. I almost crashed!

I have 2003 gmc yukon with only 43k that i bought brand new in '03.the problem is its premature wear of the emergency brake.i was told by a gm mechanic that my parking brake is about to fail due to worn shoes.how is that so?i haven't even had the chance to replace my brake pads just yet.how is that possible that my parking brake shoes wear out way before my brake pads do, that i used every time i drive?

Recently discovered, after being warned by brake shop employee, that the emergency brake was inoperative.he said this was a common failure of these vehicles, (gm's - yukon, tahoe, suburban, etc. Series).returned vehicle to gm dealer who repaired it and acknowledged it was a common problem.

I was driving down interstate 55 coming from sikeston mo headed to st louis with my family. As i was driving i heard a loud bang and the truck had begun to vibrate after pulling of i noticed that there was fluid leaking out. I had to have the truck towed back the mechanic assumed that the transfer case was gone out but upon removing the transfer case it was the transmission adapter had shatter i had many dealers look at the piece and they said they have never seen nothing like it. The metal gave away for no apparent reason nothing else was damaged except that transmission adapter. It was frightening for my family and myself i would like some answers on why this happened thank you so much

The vehicle had been placed in park with the engine running in which the consumer exited the vehicle.the consumer had gone to the back of the vehicle to the cargo door but the vehicle begun to move forward and crashed into the house. The transmission was in park the entire time.*sc

Vehicle keeps shifting to 4 low on its own.dealer replaced some parts, but consumer does not know which parts. 2003 gmc yukon shifting to four low on its own.problem started at 3,000 miles and has even occured after components were replaced.*mr

We purchased a2003 gmc yukon.before it had reached 3000 miles the neutral light came on on the 4x4 unit.from there it would shift itself into 4 low.we have had it into the dealer a total of 6 times now and they have replaced one of the components 3 times, two of the other components once.after the secon d replacement it started showing neutral again on the 4x4 unit.it seems as though the problems do not arise until after 1000 miles.the dealership service department told me that they have had a lot of problems with these units.we are trying to do a buy back but gm is dragging things out and giving us a hard time.

Dt: the contact stated when making turns there was a screeching noise coming from the rear of the vehicle.in snowy conditions when the four wheel drive was engaged therewas difficulty driving followed by another screeching noise when shifting from automaticto four wheel drive.the vehicle has been to the dealer for inspection.the dealer overhauled the four wheel drive, but noted all four tires were off balance and varied in size.this could possibly be the culprit of the screeching noise when turning.the tires have not been replaced.

Front passenger seat belt would not lock up.the belt locked upprior to the vehicle moving or being taken out of park.at times the consumer was unable to reach temperature knobs because to belts would lock.

2003 yukon drivers seat screws and frame continues to come apart. Seat frame seems to be defected or screws will not stay in seat frame!

There was exposed metal on the driver's side of the seats.when theowner reached down to pick up her cell phone, she received a deep cut on her finger and thumb.*scc

My complaint is regarding the driver's side heated leather seat.i first noticed it was getting unusually hot, then i began to smell wire burning, and it eventually quit working altogether.i am giving an estimated date as to when it burned out altogether.

While approaching an intersection i applied the brakes the pedal went to the floor abs light came on and the was total brake failure. Guided the vehicle off the road and had it towed to the shop. They found rusted brakelines at the abs valve along with a rusted backing plate for the valve. In order to improve vehicle safety the lines will all be replaced with stainless steel so this doesn't happen again. This is a very poor design since a single failure should not cause total failure of a supposed dual breaking system.

There is a recall #05068 that describes exactly what happens while driving my car.it occurs every time i drive my car, every time i accelerate and brake.(2003 gmc yukon xl). However, gmc claims my car "isn't effected" and they refuse to fix it.my issues are 1. Getting dangerous,as the car bogs and won't accelerate without a period of hesitation and then it gives too much acceleration which can be bad if i'm on a slippery surface.also, there is a common problem on these vehicles which is another problem i am experiencing:2. My abs kicks in randomly, even if the pavement is totally dry and clear.apparently, this is caused by a corroded mounting surface for the front wheel speed sensors. The corrosion builds up causing excessive gap between mounting surface and wheel speed sensor which causes a loss of wheel speed sensor signal. When the abs module sees the loss of signal it thinks the vehicle is sliding out of control so it will activate the traction control or abs. Description from recall #05068:certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles may experience unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. This condition is more likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas. This recall will be launched in the "salt belt" states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maryland, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont...hazard:this can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash.

My brakes would engage but they will not disengaged and my brakes are buringing and smelling like burnt rubber. Brakes are also sticking. The electrical system keeps blinking on and off. Replace fuse but still not working. Not displaying the correct speed on dash board i'm going slower than the speed say.

I was backing out of the driveway and the rear steel brake line blew out. I know the car is 10 years old, but i live in southern virginia where we very rarely get snow and they never salt the roads.

I was driving on a 2 lane highway coming to an intersection to make a left turn. The left hand traffic signal arrow was green as i approach the light, approx 300 feet away the arrow light turn yellow, i took my foot off the accelerator to hit the breaks and they went to the floor, on coming traffic was still stopped when i realized i was not stopping and had to go through the red arrow light. I tried to use my emergency brake after making the turn on red, that brake also went to the floor but seem to slow me down enough so i could pull into a mall parking lot and hit the curb side to stop the vehicle completely.

Was backing up into parking space and applied brakes to stop.brake pedal went all the way to the floor with nobraking capability.had vehicle towed to service facility and they reported that the front brake lines had rusted through causing fluid to be pushed out.i thought that these vehicles had a dual brake cylinder so that there would be braking capability on the rear brakes but that did not happen.fortunately was going slow and applied emergency brake to stop.paid repair facility to replace front brake lines.second incident occurred on november, 2013 where i applied brakes prior to moving transmission from park to drive while on a hill.when i applied brakes the pedal went all the way to the floor with no braking capability.i determined that the left rear brake line is spewing fluid.again, no braking capability in the front brake system.had vehicle towed to a repair facility.i assume that the rear brake lines have also rusted through.i have read numerous incidents on internet about gmc brake lines rusting.this is a serious problem as there is no braking ability at all except for the emergency brake if one of the brake lines rusts.first, these lines should be made of materials that do not rust.i have multiple 60's and 70's vehicles where the brake lines are not rusted.second, there is a problem in the dual master cylinder of these vehicles where they fail to work when either the front or the rear lines fail.

Coming to a stop to make a left hand turn, light coating of snow on the road made it slippery, abs braking cycled i held brake pedal down as the manuals say to do with abs system, truck slowedabs cycled again and then pedal went to the floor. My vehicle ended up sideways in road and thirty feet from my turn and nearly in a ditch, i then backed up to make my turn and brakes went to the floor again as i stopped to enter my road , fortunately my home was only about 500 yards from this spot. I had almost no brakes at all as i entered my driveway and parked.i then inspected fluid level in master cylinder which appeared full , from there i followed line down to the abs module to the braided brake line and still saw no leaks, then followed the braidedbrake line to the brake line tubing to the frame behind the wheel well where the line closest to the wheel well was leaking fluid and it had sprayed all over theline and under carriage and frame and wheel housing shroud. The line is rusted out and burst the truck has less than 80000 miles on it and is well maintained and i bought this truck new with 8 miles on it and paid $43000 for it. This is horrendous and incredibly dangerous there was no stopping power at all, had this happened on the highway or at a busy intersection there would have been a collision.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact stated that the abs warning indicator illuminated as the anti lock brakes failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the pump and the modulator had to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the problem. However, the part was not available to do the repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 113,389. Updated 09/02/14*ljupdated 09/17/2014

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. Without warning, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and brake fluid was leaking. A mechanic replaced the rear brake lines; however, 1,000 miles later, the front brake lines also fractured. The mechanic replaced the front brake lines and indicated that there was extensive rust and corrosion. All of the brake lines needed to be replaced or the failure could recur. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v045000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

While driving through town; brakes just completely gave out.i had to use the emergency brake to get to the shop.

Brake line failure - st. Louis mo. Brakes failed while attempting to slow from 60mph speed on christmas day. Narrowly escaped accident/collision. 2 brake lines were found ruptured/splitdue from rust/corrosion then repaired. Other brake lines are showing corrosion & will need attention soon. Vehicle is 2003 gmc yukon with 101,300 miles.

Lost all braking when attempting to stop for traffic signal. Pedal went to floor- no warning .brake line from front to back rusted thru.

I stopped to fill the yukon up with gas.when i turned the truck back on and pulled out of the gas station i had no brakes.they went completely to the floor.unfortunately a log truck was coming down the road and i rolled out in front of him. Thank goodness he was able to swerve around me.he left me a few hand signs to let me know he was not happy with me.while there was no accident caused, i could've been killed due to this!i am not happy to get on line and read this has been an existing problem with the 2003 gmc's.there needs to be a recall in regards to this.my yukon has always been serviced, inspected and well kept.there was no indication this was going to happen.i literally just had no brakes.

Brake line going to rear brakes was rusted out.situation luckily happened while my wife was backing out of the driveway.no harm or injury occurred.disabled vehicle.further inspection shows that all brake lines are suspect and will need to be replaced.

I was leaving my driveway when the brake pedal on my gmc yukon blew out. The line had rusted thorough.this occurred in 2012.since thenas a gm technician i have seen and heard ofcustomers, friends and neighbors with gm trucks have their brake lines blow out from rust. Gm has a real issue which should be investigated.the brakes lines on their truck models tend to rust out. Gmhas not issued a recall but offered a new brake line kit.my question to you is why? i have not seen this issue on the same model year gm cars.as far as i know no one has died as a result but there has to have been injuries.is it not your job to investigate this issue?once again why?

Total brake failure while stationary and engaging drive mode in driveway.brake pedal went to floor.parking brake also soft and ineffective but restored normal condition shortly thereafter..no brake or abs system service alerts or fault warnings prior to failure. 'service brake system' alert present after failure. No obds codes present.suspect brake line corrosion.approximately 170,000 miles. Recent tire/brake/alignment inspection revealed no issues.this is a very clean,"new to me" used vehicle with an excellent record of service.had just completed a trouble free 2400 mile interstate road trip.

My daughter was driving her son, our grandson, home from school in my yukon. As she was leaving the city limits just starting to get up to legal 55 mph and the brake system completely failed without warning. She fortunately saw a body shop and managed to maneuver the vehicle in there and down shifted to stop. She was fortunate to find this location. As you leave town there is a large hill we are thankful the brakes did not fail as she was going down it. I just am upset there was no warning, and we find out the whole brake line failed.it is hard to imagine what could have happened.

While traveling home this morning from a ball game on nc back roads with our two children, my wife [xxx] said the brakes failed and the warning light came on and the buzzer sounded.unable to stop, they rolled through a stop sign and pulled into a church parking lot. Upon inspection, brake fluid was dripping from a rusted brake line just inside the left rear wheel. I purchased the vehicle new and it has been in the charlotte, nc area most of its service life. Annual trips to northern michigan with proper post trip washings should not have created this amount of rust and corrosion on key components such as the brake lines. This known problem must relate to the inferior quality of metal of gm allowed the supplier to use.the numerous failures i've read about have not been limited to the northern climates and consequently will result in numerous deaths as these vehicles age further.answering the problem last fall with pre made replacement brake lines for customers to buy and have installed falls short of meeting gm's obligation to deliver safe and reliable vehicles.the affected vehicles should be inspected and repaired proactively by gm asap. Several years ago subaru promptly recalled their corroded brake lines; why has gm been given a pass?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The right front drivers side hubs was about to come off and my entire braking system went out while driving on the highway.

Brake line failure from abs to master cylinder due to corrosion.upon inspection both lines needed replacement with corrosion present on the other lines, too.

I noticed brake fluid on driveway. Further inspection shows" heavy" rust on metal brake fluid lines along frame. Ifound leak in metalline on lt rear linemaster cyl level was low . Leak appears to have started within the last few days. . vehicle was purchased new and is in very good condition . I work with another yukon owner [ 2000 yukon xl] . He had exact same problem . Luckily i found it before any accident occurred.

I had a braking problem march 2015, corrosion of the brake lines. I have a 2003 yukon 2500 quadrasteer. I was driving my truck when the brakes went. There was no warning light!!!!! i pushed the brake pedal practically to the floor, i was able to roll into a parking lot. When i got out there was brake fluid pouring out from the brake lines towards the rear of the vehicle. Why gm runs the lines right along the front of the vehicle undercarriage is a mystery to me. It is just going to be exposed to salt! i live in michigan and we use a lot of salt in the winter months. Yes things do rust, but i always wash the undercarriage of my truck!it's a case of poor engineering and it leads to premature corrosion. I am a mother of 3 young children and thank god they were not in the vehicle at the time this happened.

All automobiles in north-americashould have stainless steel brake lines and fuel lines to prevent corrosion, it only makes sense and its not the end of the world as far as cost; brake failure is probably the most dangerous thing that can happen that can be life threatening. I am aware that auto manufacturers want us to replace components and make money down the line, but brake components such as brake lines have to be excluded from this.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and it traveled all the way down to the floorboard. The contact had to gear down in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake fluid line needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

I was towing a 17' boat and came to a stop sign. I pressed the brake pedal and it went to the floor. The yukon did not slow at all. Fortunately, no one was coming and i rolled through the stop sign, made a right turn, and went down a steeper hill. Pumping the brakes as i went had no effect. The dash showed a 'service brake' message. I applied the parking brake and down-shifted, which slowed it enough that i was able to swing wide into the opposing traffic lane and barely make the turn at the bottom of the hill. I pulled off to the side of the road with the right-wheels on a soft shoulder before the vehicle slowly came to a stop.i refilled the brake reservoir and had my wife press the brake pedal. It went to the floor as brake fluid shot onto the hot exhaust manifold, leaking from a rusted joint where the steel brake line joined a flexible, braided line under the hood.the brake lines were horribly rusted, unlike anything i had ever seen in my 35+ years of driving and owning vehicles (including 20 cars and light trucks). This yukon has spent its entire life registered in virginia and has less than 80k miles on it. I can't imagine what they are like in northern states.looking online, i discovered that this was a known problem that the nhtsa had investigated. Why was i not warned? i could have been injured or killed, as could have another motorist or pedestrian! when i called my local gmc dealer (ourisman of alexandria, va), the service advisor claimed to be unaware of the problem, the gm service bulletins that had been issued on it, and the availability of the pre-bent lines as a discounted kit from gm.he estimated a four-figure labor bill to do the work, so i am doing as much of it as i can myself using nickel-copper brake line and a flaring tool.people are going to die from this if the nhtsa does not force gm to do a recall.

Rear brake line opened up causing the rear brakes to fail and empty master cylinder. Front brakes barely work. Estimated cost from local firestone dealer to be about 600.00.

Brake lines corrosion caused total brake system failure.fortunately, no one was injured or killed.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. In addition, the contact stated that the was a leak coming from under the vehicle. The contact discovered that the brake lines were entirely rusted out and fractured. The vehicle was not able to be driven and was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v045000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.

I own a 2003 youkon xl went to stop hard truck took to long to stop. Went to smithtown chev says brake lines rusty and there is seepage at all fittings. Truck laid up.

While traveling at a speed of 45 mph on route 47 north of yorkville, illinois, i applied the brakes at a yellow light at the intersection of cannonball road.the pedal went all the way to the floor and i passed right through the intersection on red!the only way i could stop was to veer off of the road into the grass. The brake line that feeds the front wheelsrusted through and one broke.i thought that a split system the rear would still work?

Lost all braking , took truck to repair shop and the brake lines had corroded and had several holes in them. I had to replace all the metal lines on the vehicle. Brakes were fine hooked up utility trailer and pulled out of my driveway. Going down hill, applied brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor.

My brake lines are rusted out as describe in the article below. Costing me over 650.00 to repair. Less than 115k on my car! never had to replace brake lines before... I lost my brake un-expectantly during a rain storm in cohasset, ma on 1/10/2017. Luckily i was on a side road coming to a stop sign and no accident occurred nor were my 3 kids in the vehicle.i saw this article below and decided to write you.https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/consumers-complain-of-corroded-brake-lines-in-older-gm-trucks-013014.html

While stopping from low speeds the abs system activates on dry surfaces. This causes increased stopping distances.

Was driving down my street @ 20mph, started to brake about 150 feet before the stop sign. The brake pedal went to about 1/2 to 3/4 inches above the floorboard before i came to a stop...about 5-6 inches of pedal play. I immediately traveled to my auto repair business doing a lot of downshifting and slow speed travel so as not to cause further damage or an accident. My abs has been disconnected due to corrosion and the prohibitive cost of repairing/replacing it(approx.$1600!!). I just drive cautiously just like when abs didn't exist.the technician inspected, he found 2 failed leaking steel brake lines...the rest of the brake lines were severely rusted. The tech re-constructed the brake lines from scratch using a corrosion-resistant alloy tubing. This tubing should not need replacing again. Tech also labored and extracted brake bleed valves from calipers. These were tiny rusted nubs. Tech re-assembled, filled and bled the entire brake system, re-tested for leaks and proper operation.all replacement lines were custom-bent from bulk tubing. The bleeding process took over 2 hours because the abs unit was in-operative. 10 1/2 hrs of tech's time was used. The actual brakes and components at the4 wheels remain unchanged.the entire bill came out at close to $1100 but was discounted by $200 due to customer loyalty, thanks!!!there are close to 900 complaints already concerning this problem with these full-sized gm products. Yes i do live in the so=called rust-belt( cleveland ohio area). But i do know that this incident could have resulted in an accident had it occurred at a different time and location.

On dec. 4, 2012 heading north on the nj tpke toward the gw bridge and got cut off.hit the brake and the dash board lit up, the brakes were failing, pedal went to the floor.i had no breaks.able to steer clear of traffic. Slowed the car by lowering gear and pumping brake and entered the toll for gw in a cash lane in order to get help.able to stop car without incident but only because it was very late (9pm) and traffic was light.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. While driving approximately 40 mph, the brakes failed to work. While attempting to slow down, the brake pedal went to the floor when it was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. The abs indicator illuminated. The contact slowly drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the hydraulic unit needed to be replaced. The technician referred the contact to a local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not provided. The failure mileage was 142,000.

I lost all braking ability while traveling the interstate highway.i was able to stop the vehicle and found brake fluid flowing from the main brake line feeding the anti-lock controller.

Brake line failure due to corrosion.

Rear brake line burst without warning and brake pedal went to the floor. Upon inspection the brake line is completely rusted out.

While driving down a hill in orillia ontario canada, i had a sudden loss of brakes. I was able to swerve through 3 lanes of traffic and after nearly hitting another car in a service station parking lot i brought the vehicle to a stop. My brother checked the vehicle and found that all brake fluid had leaked out of a ruptured corroded brake line next to the abs sensor under the driver side of the vehicle.please add my name to the list of over 110 other complaints regarding brake lines which are corroded.

The brake lines have corroded and rotted out.the first failure was located in the lines under the driverside firewall.i am informed that this is a common problem and that the lines are difficult to replace due to their location.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon.the contact stated that the brakes failed while approaching a stop sign.after 20 feet, the vehicle stopped.she pulled over to the shoulder, and waited approximately ten minutes.the dealer performed a diagnostic, but no failure could be identified.this was the second occurrence of this failure.on the first occasion, midas checked the brakes, but also could not identify a failure.there is a recall related to the failure she is experiencing.the failure mileage was 59,000 and current mileage was 59,100.updated 07/29/08.*lj the right front window would not roll down at times. The dealer replaced the regulator and the motor. Updated07/29/08

After driving for about 100 miles, stopped for lunch.after stopping for lunch, drove 2003 gmc yukon with only 54,000 miles on it for another 20 miles on country highway at 55mph.stepped on brakes to slow-down for slower traffic, the pedal went to the floor and the brake light came on.the yukon was able to slow down before hitting the slower traffic.drove about another 50 miles to nearest chevrolet/gmc dealer, needing to use full brake pedal travel to slow-down the vehicle.the service brake light came on everytime the brakes were applied.the dealership investigated the failure.the rear brake line had rusted through and burst.the fuel tank needed to be removed to replace rear brake lines on the truck.the truck had to be left overnight at a dealership 100 miles from final destination to have the lines replaced.the dealership was very helpful in completing the repairs.estimated cost from the dealer for the repairs was $400 - $800.the brake line failed with no warning.

2003 gmc yukon.consumer writes in regards to intermittent anti-lock braking system.the consumer stated while driving down the road, warning bells started to sound and the check brake system light, illuminated.the consumer checked the brake fluid, and found it was ok. The next day, he took the vehicle to the repair shop, where they replaced the pads and checked the system. They ran a diagnostic check, which verified the abs had come on, but reset when the engine was re-stared.the brake shop recommended the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer. However, in their opinion the abs module and abs pump needed to be replaced. They explained to the consumer, when the warning light was on, the abs was inoperative.the dealer informed the consumer, it would cost $125, just to run the diagnostic and if the module and pump needed to be replaced, it would cost $ 2,200. The abs light stayed out for weeks. However, in march 2014, the light illuminated again.

No brake pedal all brake lines are rusted out replaced all brake lines.

I have a 2003 gmc yukon and the electronic brake control module (ecbm) has failed.the ecbm is the feature that controls the anti-lock brake system (abs) on cars and trucks.without the ecbm working, a car/truck will not have abs braking, which is a safety hazard for stopping and braking, especially since all new cars have this feature and most people do not know how to drive otherwise.i did some internet research and this appears to be a very common problem with gmc and all general motors trucks from 2000 to 2003 and other model years. There are thousands of people out there who have had this ebcm fail on them.i took my truck to the dealership and they informed me that there are no recalls for this part and further that the replacement part is $1,000, excluding labor.this exorbitant charge is cost prohibitive to most people and is dangerous because it is a critical safety feature.i feel like this part should be recalled at no cost to consumers.this is a critical safety issue and it seems like it is a common problem, which makes me believe it is a factory defect.

Vehicle spins out of control on ice rear wheel freezes when brake applied

As a was approaching an intersection i applied my brakes only to feel them drop to the floor. After pulling off to the side of the road and inspecting my engine compartment i found that there was brake fluid all over. I managed to limp the vehicle to a repair facility which notified me that my brake lines all were rust and badly needed to be replaced. They stated that a vehicle of this age it is not common for this to happen.

While traveling on i-75 north at the i-4 exit i brake to slow down for stopped traffic ahead and the brake pedal worked for a brief moment before quickly loosing all pressure and going to the floor.all braking power was lost immediately and i barely avoided an accident by swerving off the road to avoid the stopped traffic in my lane.upon initial inspection it became obvious that the brake line had ruptured behind the front driver side wheel.the lines are all heavily corroded and rusted, thereby becoming brittle and failing under pressure.

I have heard of several accidents because of reduced engine power. It slows the vehicle down and people behind them rearended them because it is a sudden drop in speed and there is no time to slam on the brakes please get this fixed before a child is injured or killed thank you.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph and the brake pedal depressed to the floor when engaged. There were numerous attempts at braking, but the vehicle continued to accelerate. In order to come to a complete stop the gear selector was shifted into neutral. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for inspection. The mechanic stated that the brake lines were completely rusted. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer for a second opinion. The vehicle exceeded the service warranty mileage and had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact planned to have the vehicle repaired at some point. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

2003 gmc yukon. Bothrear rotors and front wheel hub and bearing assembly units were replaced. The rear rotors were completely deteriorated. *mcthe consumer stated a national recall should be mandated and not limited to just 14 states regarding the abs.

Abs failure at low speed.

No crash.vehicle had not been driven for approximately 6 weeks prior tojuly 15, 2006.vehicle was used for a short trip about 2 miles total. When brakes were applied the pedal went to the floor and longer than normal distance was required to stop.brakes were very spongy.fluid level checked found to be within normal range, normal color and no apparent leaks.vehicle had approximately 27,000 miles at the time.vehicle taken to dealership for repair of brakes (while there had 30,000 mile service done as well).dealer advised that the master cylinder was bad (interior failure) new part was ordered and placed on the vehicle.upon vehicle being returned the vehicle appeared to still have a very spongy pedal and the pedal traveled excessive distance (approximately 4") before feeling some pressure.travel distance appears to still be longer than before problem was discovered.tried driving the vehicle a few miles maybe 100 to see if anything changed with brakes. Brakes remained the same.returned the vehicle to the dealership service manager agreed with me after testing that the brakes appeared spongy.attempt to fix by the dealership advised they "found air in the lines, bled brake system seems to be working in proper order".i picked up the vehicle and the brakes still feel the same, spongy pedal travels approximately 4" before any noticeable braking function, stopping distance still appears to be a little excessive.contacted gmc service online and advised of the problem and that i am in the process of contacting a different dealer to attempt service repairs. They gave me the name of another dealership to try. At this point problem is not resolved.

Dealer reported that the rotors were full of corrosion and would have to be replaced instead of cut, however brakes were still good but because of rotor problems brakes would have to be replaced also. Rotors have now been replaced along with brakes but not by dealer, did on own to save money.

The consumer stated that the steering shaft had a poor fit. It was loose which made the steering difficult at times. The consumer stated there was a noise within the shaft.please provide any further information. Also, provide vehicle identification number.the consumer stated that the shaft was defective. Steering shakes and gives a bad sense of feel to the road.*tc

Problems with steering knuckle/column since purchase. Dealer well aware of issues with this problem. Steering part was replaced which only solved problem with looseness and noise temporarily. Second repair "exercised" the steering knuckle which was not effective. Steering feels loose and noise, knocking when turning steering wheel or going over bumpy terrain.

I took delivery of my 2003 gmc yukon slt on 22 december 2003. It has chassis problems since it had 500 miles on the odometer. I have taken it to the dealership service department for the following chassis related complaints multiple times: front end vibration and highway speeds (50+ mph), steering wheel pull at all speeds, and sudden loss of power steering. In the past, gm service has aligned the front end, balanced wheels, replaced tires, replaced the power steering pump, and replaced the steering gear. Vehicle service history is available. The most recent loss of power steering occurred on 29 july 2005 at approximately 10:00 p.m. I was pulling out of a tubby's restaurant parking lot in clinton township, mi in an attempt to turn right onto garfield st. My attempted right turn failed as my vehicle steering locked mid way into my turn, causing my vehicle to go into oncoming traffic. I slammed on the brakes, put the vehicle in reverse to remove my vehicle from traffic, and wrestled with the steering wheel to turn right to get on the right side of the road. I had a near miss as there was traffic coming from both directions on a road with a posted speed limit of 45 mph. After the near miss, i realized that the vehicle had lost power steering, only to the right.i carefully drove the vehicle home. I took the vehicle to rinke pontiac gmc service on 1 august 2005 for service. The serve department said that i would have the pay for it since the warranty has expired.

Knocking noise in steering column; steering very loose; sometimes feels like i loose control of the car when turning while going over bumps in road.

Dt*:the contact stated the steering shaft was replaced under recall january 2005.while driving at various speeds and when the steering wheel is turned there is a popping and grinding nose.there is also an extreme amount of play in the steering wheel.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the shaft was greased.this did not repair the problem.the shaft will need to be replaced to fix the problem.the nhtsa recall information is not available.

Gmc yukon 2003 looseness in front suspension. There was a rattle and or looseness in the front end.the problem had grown progressively worse with time.the dealer inspected the vehicle and suggested that the intermediate steering column should be replaced.the problem returned and had not been remedied.recently the problem turned to creaks and groans when stopping, when accelerating from a stop there was a metal on metal sound. *sc

*sc

Excessive "play" in steering column of 2003 gmc yukon, after 26,000 miles and 8 months of driving was repaired under warranty or maintenance service agreement. Dealer indicated that repair involved a lube kit for "interim steering shaft". Dealer advised that gmc issued a maintenance circular regarding this problem, which was caused by a defect or mistake by factory. Owner contacted gmc consumer affairs. A representative from detroit stated that no government recall issued on this specific vehicle/vin#, but that perhaps gmc had issued a "special policy" to address this problem. Gmc policy on "special policy" problems is to wait for maintenance problem to manifest itself and be idenrtified by owner, instead of informing owner and/or taking preventative maintenance.

While driving and attempting to make a left or right turn steering column locked in place. Consumer hadthe vehicle serviced by a technician, and hedetermined the steering column shaft as the cause. Steering column shaft needed replacement.

2003 gmc yukon with a recall for tacks on the dashboard. Consumer states that the dealer said they would not cover the repair because the vehicle had to many miles on it.

Consumer stated that the dashboard was peeling.took the vehicle todealer for repairs. In the process, the air bags were damaged. The repairs were done butproblem recurred. Air bags will not deploy.

The back glass left side hinge separated from the glass and broke while driving down the interstate. The glass could have come off from suction and hurt someone. There is a recall out for other gmc sport utility vehicles but not for this vin.

Was driving and another car hit me from the side and hit the front driver side and ruined my side fender and.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. While driving 55 mph, a loud bang was heard as the contact noticed that the rear tailgate glass shattered. Upon starting the vehicle, the contact remembered that the rear defogger was turned on; however, she was unsure if it was on at the time the glass shattered. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the rear tailgate glass was replaced. The cause of the failure was unknown. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was informed that there were no recalls. The approximate failure mileage was 225,000.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc yukon. The contact stated that the right front fender of the vehicle was rusted. The contact also stated that the paint on that fender was bubbling. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,832.

I have a 2003 gmc yukon. Several days ago i was going to put some items in the back end. After raising the rear hatch glass, i heard a popping noise. I couldn't tell where it came from at first, but when i tried to shut the rear glass, the right side of the glass just popped up. After looking at it closely i could see that the glass was separated from the right hinge.i had to pull the glass down by hand and align it while trying to shut the glass.my vehicle is a 2003 model with 55,000 miles.it is a second vehicle and stays garaged most of the time.i have a 1996 tahoe i use for hauling and odd jobs.i have probably opened the rear glass on the 2003 yukon no more than a dozen times in the years that i have had it i usually open the entire hatch.gm states that this problem is not a defect and is not covered under any warranty.upon checking on line apparently hundreds of people have had the same problem. Gm refuses to do anything about it.the repair costs approximately $1000.00.if this glass blows out or falls off while driving in traffic, someone could be seriously injured not only from the weight of the glass but from flying glass and debris./this is definitely a manufacturing defect that again gm is ignoring until someone is injured and they are sued.

The right hinge of the rear lift glass on 2003 gmc yukon failed causing a dangerous condition whereby the rear glass could blow out, or otherwise fall off the car.i am told the entire rear lift glass must be replaced.

All meters on the dash board is not working correctly.meters such as the speedometer, gas meter, rpm meter, etc are not functioning properly.when driving on small roads, highways, and freeways, it does not indicate the speed accurately.the gas meter does not indicate how much gas is in the gas tank when the car is stopped or when its driving.rpm meter also is not functioning while we're driving.

Consumer states that while driving withoutwarning the vehicle will accelerate and it will be hard for the consumer to get control of the vehicle to decelerate. Dealer notified.mr

While driving intermittently the engine light comes on, vehicle vibrates and speed will decrease to 30 mph all atthe same time. The dealership can not locate problem, but thinks it has to do with the throttle body. Please provide more details.

Speedometer isn't registering correct speed while driving.stopped and it registered 55 mph while standing still.has trouble returning to zero.problem started at 200 miles.

While driving or idling, the "check engine light" is displayed. Engine goes into "reduced power mode". Dealer replaced accelerator control module. This did not correct the problem. They now think it is the throttle body. Time will tell, mean while i am without my $45,000.00 truck.

The vehicle had been placed in park with the engine running in which the consumer exited the vehicle.the consumer had gone to the back of the vehicle to the cargo door but the vehicle begun to move forward and crashed into the house. The transmission was in park the entire time.*sc

My brakes would engage but they will not disengaged and my brakes are buringing and smelling like burnt rubber. Brakes are also sticking. The electrical system keeps blinking on and off. Replace fuse but still not working. Not displaying the correct speed on dash board i'm going slower than the speed say.

Details: speedometer reads incorrectly it just sits at zero, even at highway speeds. Very erratic needle movement.

I have heard of several accidents because of reduced engine power. It slows the vehicle down and people behind them rearended them because it is a sudden drop in speed and there is no time to slam on the brakes please get this fixed before a child is injured or killed thank you.

The speedometer does not work, and the part is on back order for several more weeks.

Odometer reading and hour meter reading displaying alternately every 5 seconds while vehicle was garage parked and off, no key in the ignition, no other lights on.dealer could not find problem, but re-secured ground connection.

Odometer reading and hour meter reading displaying alternately every 5 seconds while vehicle was garage parked and off, no key in the ignition, no other lights on.dealer could not find problem, but re-secured ground connection. Rear heater not working. On july 25, 2006, the dealer replaced:" compressor assembly-replace sensor, inside air temperature-replace, case, auxiliary heater one piece-replace" at 38,371 miles. Today, i returned to the dealer. Rear a/c is working but no heat through the rear heater. They replaced the actuator, but that did not solve the problem. They put the original actuator back and stated a rear control module would need to be ordered. Now the console lights on the rear hvac dials do not illuminate. I am awaiting the part.

When driving in inclement weather the defroster will not send air to the left side of the windshield, which leaves a void, and does not defrost the left side. However, it will send air to the middle of the windshield. Contacted the dealer. However, the problem recurred.
