Air conditioner began making loud noise with accelaration, than within a few moments began blowing hot air.the compressor and clutch were replaced and within 1 week the problem began again.i know 7 people with gm vehicles and they all are having the same problem with their ac's.it seems to only be a problem when there is high humidity.however when i went to return the faulty compressor and clutch i had purchased it seems they are on nation wide backorder. It seems to me there is a problem here.

Smoke from engine compartment, then noticed flames coming from engine compartment, due to electrical locks failed and car total loss

Dec 24 2004i returned to my parked car and started the engine, the front defrost blowers went to high speed and would not shut off.at my next stop i stopped and restarted the car several times but the fan kept running. Removing the keys opening the door did nothing. After removing the fuse to the front havc the fan stopped but started again when the fuse was re-installed. After returning home i disconnected the battery for a half hour the fan stayed off, the controls worked properly.dec 28thstopping for gas, i turned the car off but the fan cam on again at full speed.i checked on line and it seems several people are having the same problem but the dealers have not come up with a fix.at this time i have pulled the fuse to keep the fan from blowing but it's too cold to be driving with no heat or defrost in the car.when i get home where i have toolsi will again disconnect the battery.

I was driving the car and then icame to my stop when i notice my car was trying to start again while it was in parkand i notice that my car then started smoking while trying to start on it own after that happen my car has never started again please help

Blower motor for hvac system comes on whenever it wants-even with the vehicle turned off. Vehicle has been in the shop 11 times for this same problem.for complete details visit www.stevenrasbach.com/gmc

The rear door will not open and is locked in place. It was a very hot day and i could not get my luggage out of the back of the car because the door would not open and there was no manual switch to unlock the door from the inside.

I believe the design of the gmc yukon posses a great risk of costly repairs and the possiblity of a fatal accident.i took my truck into the dealer because while i was driving the radio went out.i assumed that maybe a fuse had went out.but when attempts were made to replace the blown fuse, those fuses blew also.after taking it to the dealer, i was informed that a shorting of the wiring occurred because soda was spilled in the rear cup holder.this caused the radio, speedometer, heat, etc... To go out on the front dash panel in addition to making somethings come on when they were in the off position.because of the spillage claim from the service department, this i was told was not covered under the bumper to bumper warranty.my problem is this, if a leakage from a cup-holder can cause so much damage, should those wires be so easily exposed?shouldn't there be some type of safety mechinism in place to prevent this from occurring.this vehicle is promoted as a family car, but it doesn't appear to be safe for a family.if the wires are so close to the surface unprotected that soda could go into it from a cup holder, what about a little child hand.i have a twenty month old daughter who rides in a car seat in the rear, she often drinks from a sip-it-cup while back there.sip-it-cup rarely leak, so how is it possible that an amount great enough to cause this much damage could occur? some sort of safety mechanism needs to be install to prevent contact with these wires.these wires cause quite a bit of systems to fail on the vehicle.what's next ? i hate to imagine that if this occurs again that maybe it won't be the radio that goes out maybe it will be a fire that starts or maybe the entire car might explode.a safety recall is definitely in order.

While driving at any speedvehicle had unsteady steering control, vehicle wandered back and forth across the road. Vehicle had been to the dealer on two separate occasions.dealer informed the consumer that they could not find anything wrong.

I was driving the car and then icame to my stop when i notice my car was trying to start again while it was in parkand i notice that my car then started smoking while trying to start on it own after that happen my car has never started again please help

When starting the vehicle, there is a very audible engine knock.it seems to go away after about 30 seconds or so.doesn't get beter nor does it get worse but it is very noticeable.

While driving 45 mphvehicle lostpower. Without warning.dealercould not duplicate the problem.

2002 yukon - brief engine knock when vehilce is started.also, has an exhaust noise/rattle at approximately 40-42 mph, 1000=1300 rpms.noises started at approximately 2000 miles.

While driving a loud knocking noise was heard from the front.consumerwas able to drive the vehicle to dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that a carbon build up on the pistoncaused the knocking.

Defective engine (pistons knocking in cylinders, as documented by dealer)on 2002 yukon slt; 19,500 miles

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated that a month ago the vehicle was completely turned off without the key in the ignition and the air conditioner came on full blast. The failure happened again, but instead of the air conditioner it was the heat. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic whostated that the failure was caused by corroded wires underneath the dashboard. The contact had the wires replaced after the first occurrence, but the failure recurred with the heat voluntarily coming on. The dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 183000. The current mileage was 184000.

Consumer requesting reimbursement for repair of excessive corrosion of braking system, front and rear on gmc 2002 yukon. ***no answer required***the a/c compressor was noisy on startup.sop compressor had internal piston failure in compressor..the sunroof would not close all the way.the dealer had to install a new sunroof frame.

The fog running light on the front left side has been out since 6 months after the purchase of our vehicle.ironically i have noticed that the same light is out on a great number of the tahoe's & yukon's that i see on the road.i believe that this is a potential safety flaw on this model yet it has not been recalled for replacement.we have attempted to replace the bulb but the light keeps going out.

While drving the vehicle at 60mph at night time consume states has problem with interior light as well with head lights, causing to pull out of the road. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information thanks. Ts

Fuel tank/filler assembly causes vapors to backup into gas pumps equipped with vapor reclamation systems. This causes a gas pump so equipped to shutoff prematurily when refilling the vehicles fuel tanks from any percentage of capicity. There for, filling the tank becomes especially time consuming, frusturating and potentially hazardeous as one is constantly trying to override the systems automatic shutoff inorder to put any reasonable quantity of gallons into the vehicles fuel tank. It becomes difficult to know whether the gas pumps auto shutoff is being triggered by fuel backup due to tank design problems or the tank actually starting to overfill.this issue primarely occurs with the 38.5 gallon fuel tank.

While driving, vehicle stalled without warning.upon inspection, dealer discovered thatelectrical wires located inside of fuel pump were completely exposed causing them to melt.

Dt:consumer states: vehicle lost power going down highway at 70 mph, vehicle lost brakes, lights, gas.can't do anything. Tookvehicle to dealer, and dealer replaced fuel pump. Normally happens when it is warm outside.

38.5 gallon gas tank can only be filled to 2/3 to 3/4 level because the dual gas tank design does not allow gasoline vapors to evacuate, trapping the gas vapors in the tank where they could conceivably explode.although the design of this chassis is two years old, the dealer's service manager was unaware of the problem.the mechanic contacted gm, and they are aware of the problem, but would not disclose the extent of the problem, what they are doing to remedy it, or when customers can expect the design defect to be fixable.

Fuel sensor was not working. Consumer was unable to read the gauge to determine if fuel was needed. Themanufacturer stated there were no recalls for this defect.

Vehicle just stalls without warning. Engine shuts down with no codes on dash or in memory. Will restart after 4-5 minutes but will stall intermittently afterward.

Vehicle was taken to a garage for a routine inspection, and mechanic determinedthat the parkingbrake was inoperative. When depressing the parking brakeit failed to hold the vehicle while parked on an incline.driver contacted the dealer, and was informed that the parking brake needed to be replaced.

Couldn't get car inspected because of a worn out emergency brake that we neveruse.

(1) vehicle failed safety inspection(2) emergency brake is non-operable(3)rotors and brake shoes replaced at repair shop

The wear indicator on my right rear brake was signaling a problem with the brakes.i took it to my mechanic who informed me that the emergency brake had completely worn on one side and the shoes had to be replaced; it also caused damage to the brake rotor which also had to be replaced, due to the design of the attachment of the shoes (the opposite of how it is attached on the other side).

The parking brake on our 2002 yukon does not hold once the rear brakes have warmed up. When the vehicle is allowed to sit for a few hours and the brakes cool, the parking brake holds. Since new, the parking brake pedal has gone all the way to the floor, and the dealer told me this is normal. I've complained to the dealer about this problem in the past when i took it for state inspection, and i was told it was a minor adjustment problem and it had been fixed. Since the car was cold when i picked it up, the parking brake did work fine. I didn't realize until last summer that the parking brake doesn't hold once the rotor assembly is warmed up. Clearly, this is a dangerous situation if parked on a steep incline. The dealer has told me not to worry because they say the vehicle is safe when in park. I disagree.

When shifting the gears transmission down shifted on its on. Vehicle failed to move. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicdetermined that transmission needed to be replaced due to worn out parts.

Vehicle will not go into reverse. When taking to be serviced it was determined that transmission failed.

Transmission failed in 2004 and now again the exact same problem 2006.

Transmission fails to engage drive unless placed into reverse.when stuck in drive, pushing on the accelerating will cause car to move forward slowly, until their is a loud violent sound from the rear of the vehicle ar which point the vehicle will engage drive and proceed in a sluggish fashion.the vehicle has been at the dealer who had investigated and fixed the problem since november 2005 and the problem persists today (2-7-2006).the problem presented itself after the dealership flushed and changed the transmission fluid at approximately 53000 miles (the service dept recommended the service).the transmission has been faulty ever since.the vehicle is 2002 gmc yukon, 2 wd.

When the key is inserted into the ignition consumer is able to changegear from park without depressing brake pedal.however, when vehicle is running, not able to change gears without applying brakes.

When starting vehicle up, it lurches forward. Took vehicle to dealer, and cause unknown.consumer states that while the vehicle is in the park position it lurches forward.*yd

Dt:2002 gmc yukon. The consumer had to have abs sensors replaced.there was a recall but it did not effect the consumer'sstate, which was wisconsin.this could be replaced by dealership for the amount of $924. The consumerpaid to have sensors replaced.the consumer experienced the same problemas stated in therecalled vehicles .mechanic tested the sensors and stated this would not stop vehicle.the front hub and bearing were corroded along with the sensors. The left rear axle was worn which caused a fluid leak.

Dt: there is a an ongoing investigation on the issue consumer was experiencing ,nhtsa investigationpe05020.while driving at low speeds under 5 mphabs engaged when applying brakes.the wheel speed sensor improperly respondedwith pedal depressed and a loss of brakes.took vehicle to the dealer for repairs and the left front wheel hub bearing assembly was replaced along with the wheel speed sensor.since this repairs the problem has been corrected. Consumer did contact gm, who noted no recallin the us.

Dt*:the contact stated while attempting to turn at 15 mph, the rear driveline differential broke followed by a banging noise as though it was dragging.the vehicle was seen by a dealer for inspection.while the mechanic test drove the vehicle, the driveline differential unit completely separated.the vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting repairs.updated 05/04/06.

Consumer states that vehicle will not go into reverse and could cause an accident. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

When we purchased our vehicle we noticed the head liner plugs were missing they told us to bring the car back and they will put them in.they attemepted to install the plugs and noticed there were no clips installed in this vehicle. Never inspected ,also on 2-1-02 we were driving in the vehicle were my daughters were in the back seat with there seat belts on and my husband stepped on his brakes my 10 yr. Old fell forward and hit her head on the seat in front of her and she said my seat belt came out we turned and saw that the bolt of the seat belt was all the way out.we think this car has never been properly inspected.

(1) securing child in rear middle seat(2) belt would not maintain tension, slipping(3) car taken to dealer for replacement/repair.

The passenger seat belt did not allow the passenger to lean forward, the seat belt locked into place.

The passenger had no flexibility, when the seat belt was fastened. *ph

Third row middle passenger seat belt will not pull out, vehicle has not been examined by dealer. Ts

There were problems with the vehicle's rear passenger seatbelt. *mr the retracting lock did not work properly when it was used to restrain a shild safety seat. *scc

There is nolatch system inside of vehicle for infant to seat. Dealership is aware of problem.

2002 gmc yukon suffered multiple brakeline failures due to corrosion. Rear brake lines running along the axle were originally replaced upon visual inspection. The rear main line from the abs modulator failed shortly after from a corrosion induced leak where the line passes over the fuel tank.the front lines were scheduled for replacement as a precaution but failed prior to repair where the line passes over the radiator brace.all brake lines and fuel lines show significant corrosion damage.

Brake pedal went to the floor when applied at 30 mph. All lines and hoses were severely corroded, not merely surface rusted. Brake hose nuts rusted to calipers, could not be removed, requiring 2 calipers to be replaced.

While coming towards an intersection, the car in front of me hit her brakes suddenly. I reacted by hitting me brakes and while i was slowing down my brake petal suddenly went all the way down to the floor.i was traveling approx 5-10 mph when i hit the vehicle in front of me.after moving our vehicles from the road, i discovered brake fluid dripping from under my engine.i inspected the brake fluid reservoir and the master cylinder... Both looked normal.i got under the front of my truck and i could see brake fluid had been sprayed all over the lower front of the engine and front bumper.i could see that the brake lines were very rusty.before the accident there wasn't any indication that i was having problems with my brakes.i seems as though the brake line just failed.i was traveling on a local road in a straight line approx 30-35 mph when the accident occurred.

I noticed some fluid under the middle of vehicle and thought it was water but as i was heading to church sunday night my brake peddle went all the way to the floor, was very disturbing and scary to me but was able to stop and get home safely.next day in the daylight i check out my fluid and the brake fluid box was completely empty!took to dealership and was informed that brake lines rusted and leaking per say $1500 job to fix.also, informed that i needed a new water pump too.i just replaced the power steering pump 2 weeks before this occurred.gmc needs to make this a recall immediately before someone gets killed.

I have just submitted a first complaint # 10552595 for defective gmc yukon brake lines. I am now submitting second complaint for a subsequent incident with the same vehicle. On oct. 5, 2013 i was driving alone to the supermarket in pennsylvania. As i was stopping for an upcoming stop sign, my brakes failed to operate, again! the brake pedal again went completely to the floor. As there was almost no stopping power left, i again pulled the emergency brake and downshifted to low, and partially slowed, and stopped just after the intersection. I was within sight of my auto shop, and i very slowly proceeded through one additional intersection to the shop.when i pulled into his parking lot, i could see the hydraulic brake fluid was running out of the rear brake line onto the pavement!my mechanic now told me that the rear brake lines were rusted to the point of causing a major brake fluid loss. He replaced the rear brake lines with stainless steel tubing and fittings. I had to pay $509.45 to make this additional brake line repair. Based upon the nhtsa is investigating these dangerous and defective gmc brake lines in the 'rust states' including my home in pennsylvania, the us govt must now force gmc to recall these inferior corrosive brake lines to avoid the chance for fatal accidents. Gmc should reimburse me for my costs, now totaling $ 994.80. This is now the secondnhtsa incident complaint i have filed in 2013 for the total failure of my corroded and burst gmc yukon brake lines. (please note the mileage of my vehicle on 4/19/13 was 132,593 and then on 10/5/13 it was 137,813.) -[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Complete brake failure caused by rusted brake lines. When applying brake to shift into drive the pedal went to the floor. Was taken to a near by garage and shown 4 separate leaks in the lines. Estimate to repair was $1800-2000. Im lucky no-one was injured or killed. After asking friends and family who have similar gm fullsize trucks and suvs around the same year 5 of them reported the same issue which is quite disturbing. One of which was involved in an accident as a result.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph and towing a boat, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was able to come to a stop. Upon inspection, it was discovered that brake fluid had leaked from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was caused by rusted brake lines. The brake lines were replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000.

Brakes failed as i tried to stop. All brake lines had to be replaced due to corrosion. The vehicle was purchased new and is always kept in a dry garage.

Driving on rt 22 in nj at 55mph when traffic light changed to red and stepped on brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor.the car only slowed slightly and ended up in the middle of the intersection before it stopped.lucky that it was in the mid afternoon and the traffic was light because the distance to stop was about 5 times the normal distance and had to use emergency brake to stop the car.there was a sudden failure of the brake line due to corrosion, i had the car inspected by a mechanic, causing the pressure to drop in the system.after the incident i went online and found that this is a problem for years with this make and model.i am a surgeon and find it worrisome that this agency has not recalled this defect and that gmc has not notified consumers of the possibility so they can have the brake lines changed.

After a morning of driving around town doing errands i returned home with groceries.while there i decided to swap out my reverse light bulbs before driving my son to baseball practice. While making this maintenance repair the brakes on my truck failed completely.the brakes sank all the way to the floor. Fortunately i was able to keep the truck from backing into the cars parked across the street behind me..and that i had not gone right out to drive my son to baseball. When i got out to inspect the brake lines had completely imploded and brake fluid was leaking everywhere. After having it towed to a repair shop i was told my brakes had completely rusted out.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the brakes failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

On several occasions when applying brakes to stop the yukon it fails to stop and then abs kicks in causing brake pedal to vibrate and loss of pressure in brake pedal then truck does not stop it slides. I have replaced master cylinder did not help, truck needs all new brake lines due to rust. I have quickly move around cars to prevent a accident, due to this brake failure.since i am in south florida gm won't fix this known manufacture defect because sf is not a "salt belt" state, but i live on the beach and the salt water has started to have a major impactjust like the northern states on these faulty brake lines. The break lines are covered in rust and this is a major safety concern and gm should fix all vehicles with this known defect not just some. This 2002 yukon is sle with a 5.3l vin z.

Brakes went. Bought a ct car in sc. Luckily driving 5pmh when they went. Waiting at the shop now to get fixed. Spent the night in my car as i was moving to ct

The first occurance was a year ago when driving to play golf.when i was about one mile from the course, the brake pedal went to the floor when depressed.i was able to make to the course and called a tow truck.the repair was made by the local dealer.he asked me if i lived at the coast due to the corrosion found on the brake line.i do not live near the coast and the vehicle is garage kept with only 102,000 miles on it.most recently while driving in town, i depressed the brake pedal and the same thing happened.it went to the floor and was very slow to stop.in my estimation, this is very poor workmanship on behalf of general motors!i hope that no person has been killed due to this defect.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact had to depress the brake pedal repeatedly in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 246,000.

The rear main brake line broke right half into when i had to apply a very hard stop on interstate 64 i was traveling at 65 mph when a small car abruptly changed lanes there wasn't efficient enough space for the car to move in as he moved over i had to hit my brake rather hard to give this idiot enough room to merge inthe abs kicked in and the tires squealed i came very very close to rear ending this guybut i had just enough brake to slow my car up without incident after that my brakes went to the floor when i exited the interstate somehow it did stop lucky me. Soon as i saw a store i stopped and purchased 4 cans of brake fluidrefilled the reservoir and made it home with that. I jacked my yukon upand saw avery rusty steel line broke off at the fitting it didn't pull out of the fitting it actually broke into and of course fluid was everywhere. This incident could have been a bad disaster there was a lot of traffic on the interstate right at the peak of theday when everyone was leaving work trying to get home. I am thanking my lucky stars i made it home safe. Now i have to figure out the repair part of this whole thing.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would experience increased stopping distant when depressing the brake pedal. The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent and occurred on both wet and dry pavements. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the abs failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The failure mileage was 145,000.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. While driving 5 mph, the abs engaged without warning when the brake pedal was depressed. The issue made it difficult to stop the vehicle for at least five car lengths. The brake pedal became stiff and the vehicle was difficult to maneuver. The vehicle came to a stop only after the brake pedal was depressed several times. The hydraulic pump malfunctioned and caused the contact to have a difficult time parallel parking without the vehicle rolling away. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated that while engaging the brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to stop. The contact mentioned that after the vehicle slowed down and he shifted into park he noticed brake fluid leaking from the front and rear brakes. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake lines were completely corroded. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included on any recalls. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.

Without warning we experienced a total brake failure due to loss of brake fluid.pedal went completely to the floor and it caused our vehicle to lose total speed control.

I was driving to the local supermarket and applied my brakes.suddenly they went all the way to the floor.i could not stop and had to swerve out of the way of a vehicle in front of me to avoid a collision.i eventually stopped by applying the emergency brake.

While braking from a speed of 45 mph to stop for a traffic signal, the brakes failed.i was able to engage the parking brake to stop the vehicle several feet past the stop line.fortunately, no accident resulted from this incident.the vehicle was taken to a local shop where they discovered that the brake line had failed at a 90 degree bend due to corrosion.upon research, the shop said that a service bulletin had been issued stating that the entire brake line would need to be replaced because it is subject to corrosion at every point where there is a mounting bracket attaching it to the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. While driving approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to decelerate. The contact stated that the driver had to pump the brake in order for the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired by the driver, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

Hit brakes to stop pedal went to floor truck did stop but took alt longer than usualwent to garage rusted brake linesone had broke this is second time this has happenedtwo years ago had one line repaired same problem.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph attempting to engage the brakes, the abs would erroneously activate causing the braking distance to be extended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,000.updated 12/22/14*lj updated 05/26/2015

On october 9th, 2012 i entered my yukon at approximately 9pm in a parking lot in downtown cincinnati, ohio.i put my foot on the brake pedal and start my vehicle.i shifted into reverse and began backup when i pressed on the brake pedal it went all the way to the floor and never regained any brake pressure.i did manage to get my wife and i home safely.i understand that nhtsa already has an open investigation per following: "in 2010, after receiving owner complaints, the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) initiated a preliminary evaluation of brake failure trends among six million general motors vehicles build between 1999-2003, including the chevy avalanche and silverado, the gmc sierra and some of the automaker's heavy duty trucks.initially, about 100 owners reported failure of corroded brake lines, resulting in either lengthy stopping distances or crashes.""the problem has escalated, with more owners reporting brake line failure, and so far gm has not kicked-in repair dollars. In early 2011, nhtsa upgraded the preliminary investigation to an engineering analysis."from about.com.while my wife and i did return home safely it was rather terrifying to drive 25 miles with virtually no brakes.why didn't gm initiate a recall to fix this problem if nhtsa is already aware of the problem.i would like to file a complaint against general motor as we feel they could have put our lives in danger if this had happened in a way that i wasn't aware and had to brake for an emergency.from a cost perspective gmc dealership is charging $2000 replace the corroded brake lines.

Abs and brake light dashboard indicator light activates after any rain or underside of car becoming wet due to road moisture.water, salt, and other environmental contaminants cause various components of the abs to failtriggering the abs and/or brake failure light on dashboard to turn on.various gm dealer recommend replacement of the electronic brake control module and brake pressure valve in addition to associated connection hardware.estimated cost of parts is in excess of $2k and labor is $500.no assurances are giventhis will fix problem.previous recalls by gm, vehicle owner complaints, internet websites, and internet forums address ongoing abs and brake light system problems due to exposure to water, moisture, and other environmental elements; indicates the life cycle of gm abs and brake systems are severely reduced in comparison to all other makes and model cars/trucks with abs systems.the number one nhtsa complaint issue remains the abs brake system on gmc yukons produced from 2000 to 2006.there have been various nhtsa/gmc recall notices that address partial fixes to the abs but none requiring the recall of the complete abs system itself. Failure of the abs will result in brake lockup at any speed.the failure of the abs system to function properly because gm did not design the system for it's operating environment has created a dangerous expensive problem for gmc yukon owner/operators.

I completely lost the brakes.after further inspection, discovered that the brake lines are completely rusted.

Brake lines severely rusted.while driving home from town, brakes went from working great---to brake pedal hitting the floor, stopped and found large amount of brake fluid leaking onto ground.was able to make it home with brake peddle hitting floor and brake line failure light and audio warning.approx. One month earlier, parking brake line, rusted through and broke.upon searching forbrake line leak,i was frightened on how rusted outall the brakes lines are,.

Brake fluid leaking - brakes went out. Found a premature leak in a brake line about 12 inches below the master cylinder. All lines are severely corroded and must be replaced.

When braking at a slow rate of speed it feels like my abs is trying to engage.pulsations in brake pedal and slow to stop.this occurs in any type of weather.i read that there was a recall for this exact problem.when i contacted the recall help line i was told that my vehicle vinwas not included.odd.all the symptoms are there and it started right at the time my vehicle turn 65,000 miles.someone please help me.i'm afraid to drive my vehicle and i have called aroundtogmc dealers and they will not attempt to assist me with this matter.

Today my wife took our very good condition well maintained garage kept 2002 gmc yukon to dunkin donuts to get coffee.she was stopped in the drive thru line when she heard an air sound as her foot on the brake went to the floor, she was able to limp home, about a mile, by pumping the brakes and it was early so nobody was on the road.indeed the brake line above the fuel tank was broken, i know because i dropped the fuel tank.we were lucky she didn't get in an accident and we weren't on vacation far away.i also flush out the brake lines with new fluid every time i change the brake pads.i know a lot of people with cars much older than ours and no brake line issues.we also had brake line issues with a 2003 gmc yukon xl. Something needs to be done about this since this is not normal.and this happened when she was stopped in line, not after a hard emergency braking.

Hit brakes, started to slow then peddle dropped, no warning light . Peddle sank to floor ,pumped peddle to stop, hit lightpole after which brake warning light came on . On inspection ,brake line between abs box and rear axle badly rusted , failed at point above crossmember ,in front of gas tank.have had about 16 cars ,never saw line rust this bad on a car less then 20 years old.

On april 19, 2013 i was driving with my daughter in wilmington de to the amtrak station. Approximately 3 blocks away from arriving, my brakes failed as i attempted to stop at a traffic light. The brake pedal went completely to the floor. As there was almost no stopping power left, i pulled the emergency brake and downshifted to low, and partially slowed, stopped in the last section of the intersection. I pulled to the side of the road and had the car towed to my auto shop. My mechanic told me the front brake lines were rusted to the point of causing a major brake fluid loss. He replaced the brake lines with stainless steel tubing and fittings. I had to pay $485.35 to make this repair. I now know nhtsa is investigating these dangerous and defective gmc brake lines in the 'rust states' including my home in pennsylvania. The us govt should force gmc to recall these inferior corrosive brake lines to avoid the chance for fatal accidents, and gmc should reimburse me for my costs. I will now file a second nhtsa incident report for a second "rear"brake line failure in oct 2013. -[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated after he drove the vehicle at a very low speed, the vehicle unexpectedly experienced unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. The contact stated he was forced to drive at a higher speed in order to avoid this issue. The contact notified the dealer, cable dahmer buick gmc of kansas city address: 907 w 104th st, kansas city, mo 64114) however the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware and offered little assistance. The failure mileage was 128,000. The contact referenced the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vin was previously repaired under this recall however the failure recurred.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the abs and the brake warning lights illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the hub assemblies needed to be replaced. The driver side hub assembly was replaced but the passenger side was not replaced. The vin was not included nhtsa campaign number: 07e106000 (wheels). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 240,000.

There is a recall (05v379000) and i bought my vehicle in to be taken care of in 2007, now the same thing is happening two years later and they wont cover it.i have contacted gmc to see what they can do for me.

I have a 2002 gmc yukon 4wd and have had recurring problems with my abs activating at slow speeds. The vehicle has been repaired by the local gmc dealer 3-5 times but keeps recurring 10-15k miles later. The problem occurs at slow speeds, such as coming to a stop or in heavy commuter traffic. The abs activates and the yukon is difficult to stop. The dealer claims they are unaware of any problems along this line, but i have paid several times to get it repaired and nobody seems to know why it keeps failing. The failure to stop has resulted in two small collisions but no damage was done to my vehicle or the others. The problem is occurring again, but the $500/pair of sensors is proving to be a burden to keep fixing. I believe the speed sensor was adjusted the other times the abs was faulty, but the details are difficult to determine. Any and all help is appreciated! i realize my vehicle is 8 years old with 80k miles on it, but this problem has been repaired under warranty several times and the problem remains, expensively, after the warranty has expired.

Abs activates during slow stops, increases stopping distance. Dealer performed recall 05v37900 and problem persists. Dealer replaced both front speed sensors and problem persists. I believe problem is corrosion in front wheel hubs on tone ring. Recall does not address that part.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon.the contact stated that his vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:anti lock).one month later, he noticed increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications.in addition, the abs activates unexpectedly.the vehicle has not been repaired properly.the failure mileage was 32,582 and current mileage was 44,000.

A major failure of the abs system on my gmc yukon 2002, i have contacted gm but they denied any previous issues with this.i found a nhtsa campaign #05v379000 in relation with this.please advise.

Gmc 2002 yukon sle, 193,000 miles, experienced a total brake failure, loss of brake fluid, without prior warning lights regarding brake line pressure, function or abs. The loss was attributed to extensively corroded brake lines resulting in a $3000 repair.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon. The contact stated that the brakes failed to engage when the brake pedal was depressed. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the brake fluid was leaking. The dealer diagnosed that the brake lines were corroded and fractured due to defective metal. As a result, the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. Updated 01/15/15*ljthe brake lines rotted out and caused fluid to leak, which in turn caused the brakes to fail. Updated 03/03/15

My 2002 gmc yukon has the problem that when stopping at slow speeds the abs brakes activate causing the car to lurch forward before coming to a complete stop.this is the third time i have experienced this with this vehicle.the first time was just before the recall for this problem in 2005, the second time was in the summer of 2007 when it was fixed under the recall, and just recently when i had to again pay for the repair.each time it was repaired by removing and cleaning or replacing the sensors.obviously the repair done as a result of the recall is temporary at best and the safety issue of the car lurching forward returns.in my case it appears to return in about 2 years.

Driving from tampa to orlando in my 2002 gmc yukon with trailer in tow.brakes went to floor while had to use emergency brake. I was tow home by aaano fluid in reservoir filled it up.saw fluid leaking under drivers door look with flashlight and saw cluster of lines corroded leaking from a round device and running down the rail toward back. About two ft. Long.i think they are the metal brake lines and their failure seems like a defect in material as i think they should be made of a harder or more lasting stainless steel or something as brakes are the most important device on a vehicle.i now feel for the safety of my family gmc said improper maintenance.i think gmc should take care of their faulty defective brake lines before someone is killed or maybe they have already.

Unlike many others my chevrolet mechanic warned me of the corrosion problems they found on my brake lines on my gmc 2002 yukon, and the need to replace them.this $1,700 repair is excessive, but i could not consider risking failure.we travel on highways close to 1,000 miles per month and occasionally tow a 5,000 pound boat/trailer.i typically buy new cars, maintain them with the dealer and run them as long as i can.i have never seen or heard of such a comprehensive failure.having only briefly researched this on line and easily finding hundreds of reported failures, i cannot believe that gmc has not been held accountable.a friend has reported to us that both their sierra and yukon experienced on road failures.i maintain my cars as responsibly as i can, at a cost, but not wanting any highway failures.i hate to think about the aging gmc/chevy truck population that is now driving next to me.why has gmc not been held accountable.

While driving 10 mph, the driver appliedthe brake pedal and it went to the floor. The brakes did not work.the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.there would be a howling noise as if something was wrong with the power booster and the brake pedal would vibrate.the problem only occurred around 10 mph. *sc

2002 yukon had very reduced braking under normal speeds and road conditions.the brake pedal was pushed nearly to the floor with only about 30% of normal brake capacity.as if the front brakes were not helping.the big issue is that the recall service by gm recall # 05068 has been performed on this truck less than 6 months ago on 8-23-2006.the recall procedure does not correct the defect.someone is going to get killed by this problem that gm is not correctly addressing.

I started vehicle, depressed the brake pedal, i then placed the shifter into reverse and proceeded to drive when i realized the vehicle wasn't stopping as usual. I then put the shifter into drive and parked it . I got out of the vehicle and noticed alot of fluid (on the drivers side) all over the ground. I called a tow truck to have it moved to a mechanics location for further inspection. The main (corroded) brake line burst causing fluid to leak everywhere and creating a potentially serious life threatening driving hazard (brake failure) had i not parked the vehicle it would have been a different ending....this needs to investigated immediately.

Intermittently while drivingat very slow speed. And applying the brakes pedal went to the floor, and there were no brakes. This resulted in extended stopping distance.

Dt*:the contact stated after having the recall #05v379000 regarding the abs performed on the vehicle the brakes began to pulsate at speeds below 10 mph.the vehicle worked properly before the repairs.the vehicle was immediately taken back to the dealership, where it was determined the abs hubs need to be replaced.updated 3/17/2006 -

2002 gmc yukon brakes pulsate during normal and slow speed stops. Vehicle makes a crunching or clunking noise and brake pedal goes to far down toward the floorboard.when the consumer took the vehicle to a repair shop, the consumer was told the rotors were corroded.the consumer was told his vehicle was not included in the recall, because his vehicle was purchased in georgia.

2002 gmc yukon front wheel assembly had to be replaced.after the recall for the wheel speed sensor was complete the dealer claimed they also had to replace the left hub assembly due to corrosion.the replacement of the hub was not going to be cover under warranty because it had expired.

Dt: anit-lock brake modules on the 2002 and 2003 gmc yukon burn out and get stuck, and won't operate.the anti-lock brake will come on with engine off, and only way to stop is to disassemble the brakes.it almost caused a fire, but consumer caught it in time.

Dt:2002 gmc yukon, the vehicle's front wheel speed sensor corroded.when the brakes were applied, while the vehicle was traveling at speeds greater than 3.7 mph, but less than 10 mph, thecorrosioncaused the abs to activation. If this were to occur where stopping distance is limited a crash may occur. Vehicles have a condition permitting corrosion to occur between the front hub-barring assemble in the wheel speed sensor. This is the exact problem that the consumer is experiencing with his vehicle. It is also, the same information that is include in a manufactures recall in the nation of canada. Recall date jan. 25, 2005 product safety recall i.d. 04094 and the document i.d. 1587153. Consumer had taken the vehicle to dealer they said that they would not repair the vehicle unless the he paid for the repair out of pocket. They dealer also told the consumer about the recall in canada. The consumer had contacted the manufacture, which told him that they would not do anything about it because the recall is in canada. The consumer had taken it to the following three dealerships:denooyer cheverolet 518-458-7700, depaula cheverolet 518-489-5551, goldstein gmc 518-869-2291, all three are located in albany, new york.consumer also, found a nhtsa action no. Pe05020 that is very similar to his complaint.

Dtthe abs engaged although the vehicle was not on a slippery road.the consumer had the brakes checked and was told that everything was fine.on another occasion while driving slowly out of his driveway the brakes did not engage when applied.the vehicle was taken tot he dealer who agreed to repair the brakes but at the consumer's expense.

While driving and with no warning brakes went out, causing brake pedal to go to the floor, and vehicle will have extended stopping distance. Dealer notified.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon which was purchased brand new in 2002. He stated that the anti-lock braking system was activating inappropriately at low speeds of 8 mph and under. The failure would cause the pedal to pulse and would not stop in a normal fashion. The vehicle would brake on and off and caused him to feel as if he was losing control of the vehicle. Although there was a recall campaign regarding the same failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000) his vin was not included in the recall. The manufacturer would take no liability for repairs in the vehicle. No repairs were made. The current and failure mileages were under 87,944. Updated 12/22/09 updated 12/22/09.

Failure of antilock brakes sensor at low speeds. Resulting in multiple near misses with structures and vehicles. Happened about a dozen times in the last week.i brought my car to my texaco which diagnosed this and stated that there was a texaco bulletin on the issue. I googled and found that the problem is known by gm and caused a recall in canada. Reference detroit news article "agency checks brake sensors on 1.3 million gm trucks, road salt buildup in colder states may have led to an antilock system malfunction." (http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0505/03/c01-169774.htm). I phoned my local gm which offered to "take a look" but that "they were not aware of any situation with these vehicles." texaco replaced the front sensors at a cost of $520.40.

Consumer complaint regarding 2002 gmc not being included in recall. The vehicle would skid and grind when the brake pedal was applied.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to be serviced for recall 05v379000.the dealer informed the consumer that his vehicle was not included in the recall therefore they would not repair it.the same day the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where they replaced the left front unitized bearing and front wheel drive hub assembly.

I am writing to talk to you about my recurring issues with my steering column in my 2002 yukon xl.in short, it rattles.on the road, it rattles at a low thud, thud, thud sound.turning corners, it rattles with the same sound.initially, when i took it to berglund chevrolet, in roanoke, va, they attempted to remedy the problem with a lube kit. When the problem surfaced again, i brought it back and the intermediate steering column was replaced.20,000 miles later, i face the problem for the 3rd time. I drive on the road, never off road.i have owned a number of vehicles, and always hold on to them until they exceed 150,000 miles.never have i had to replace one steering column, in any vehicle, and i obviously have never heard of a vehicle requiring more than one. I have learned from gmc that there was a first generation fix and a second-generation fix.i really don't know which generation i got, but i do know it was not a fix.after some arguing, the first repair was covered.the second was covered, as well, but only after arguing once more.it seems perfectly clear to me that this should be repaired again, at no cost to me, because i have never received a satisfactory remedy to this problem '' a problem acknowledged by gmc as needing to be remedied.it is obvious that my vehicle has not got the steering column solution that works.i have safety concerns.no one should expect to replace a steering column on a vehicle every 20,000 miles.it is not a filter or fluid that needs changing at intervals, and i refuse to have this treated as if it were regular maintenance.i am worried about the safety of a unit that wears out so quickly, and am very disturbed by the complacency of gmc about subjecting me to continuous repairs, and apparently hiding behind policies rather than doing the right thing with a customer.

When traveling at 55mph or higher andgoing over a little bump/ hillvehicle feels like it's floating. Driver feels that it's hard to steer.cause is unknown. Please provide any further information.

Wandering on road excessive noise from tires wearing on inside. Cupping of tires caused by worn idler and pitman arms at 42000 miles.

While making a tight left turn, the power steering failed completely. The yukon only had 72000 miles on it. When i had it repaired at the dealer, gmc denied warranty service due to mileage. I complained that a power steering pump should never fail in such a catastrophic way. The service advisor said that the new power steering pump was of a different design so we should not have to worry about another failure. He said it was not uncommon for this failure to happen. The shaft broke inside the pump. The pulley was still intact. Had my wife been driving, she would have had a very difficult time controlling the car.

My vehicle is being tampered with, intentionallyrepairs improperly preformedsteeringwheels enginenorthstar all. Affected.

Got home around 11:30pm. At 2:30am was awaken by a honk, to find out my gmc yukon was engulfed in flames around the hood. The vechicle was parked on our drive way doing nothing on just sitting there.

When the accelerator was applied, the engine revved, and the vehicle suddenly shot foward.

When consumer depressed the accelerator pedal,it became stuck, thevehicle then accelerated in full throttle, which resulted in an accident. The driver was seriouslyinjured. Please provide more details.

When starting vehicle up, it lurches forward. Took vehicle to dealer, and cause unknown.consumer states that while the vehicle is in the park position it lurches forward.*yd

Tread separated from cooper tire discovery h/t and then blew out as the vehicle was traveling at 65 mph on the florida turnpike.luckily, there was no auto accident, but the brake lines were severed.

Abs activates during slow stops, increases stopping distance. Dealer performed recall 05v37900 and problem persists. Dealer replaced both front speed sensors and problem persists. I believe problem is corrosion in front wheel hubs on tone ring. Recall does not address that part.
