I got into a accident. At the intersection of washington st and 2nd st in reno nv. I impacted another car as they went across the intersection. I had the right of way, i impacted the passenger rear end of the other persons vehicle.the main point of impact on my yukon was the passenger side front corner. The accident was not very bad, no one required medical attention at the scene. When iimpacted iwas traveling less than 35 m p h.and according to the drivewise device. The vehicle impacted after applying the break at approx 16 mph- at which point the airbags deployed.when further looking at the vehicle and replacing the airbags we found that the sensor did not need to be replaced because the wires between the airbags and the sensors were crimped in the little bit on body damage that happened in the accident, deflating the airbags unnecessarily and hince a small accident that hardly damaged any of the vehicle rendered it as salvage- because the airbags deployed during a low impact accident.

Afterbeing involved in a head on collisionair bags did not deploy.

My wife was driving down the highway and the truck just lost all power and cut off. She managed to make it to the side of the road and put it in park. It didn't start right away but i a couple of minutes it started back up and we made it home. It has subsequently done this several times now.

Wipers operate in an intermitent manner. They slow down and sometimes stop totally, and then start operating again. They may operate fine for a time and the start to slow down and then stop again. Have read some earlier year blazer and trucks had the same identical problem. Turned out to be a cracked circuit board that caused the problem.

The head gasket leaked water, due to a faulty intake manifold. The vehicle also had problem with a wet floor, the consumer believed it was coming from the air conditioner. Dealer not notified yet. The intake manifold gasket leak under pressure which rusted and pitted the right cylinder head.the improperly torqued gaskets leaked at 10 psi required by the manual.the rear clogged up forcing condensation to build up and escaped into the rear compartment of the vehicle which soaked the padding. *sc

The contact owns a 1998 gmc yukon. The contact stated thevehicle was parked in the driveway and ignited into heavy flameswithout warning. The vehicle parked next to the burning vehiclesustained damages to the front passenger door. The firedepartment extinguished the fire and informed that there was astrong odor of fuel coming from the vehicle. The vehicle wascompletely destroyed. The contact was advised by the insurancecompany there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number06e043000 (fuel system, gasoline). The cause of failure had notbeen determined at the time of the complaint. The failure mileagewas approximately 200,000.

Consumerhad to replace the fuel pump six times in the last two years. When being replaced the cause could not be determined.

Fuel pump failed.

Fuel tank leaks from top of tank after fill-up, all fittings appear to be ok. This only occurs after topping off, but loses about 1 gallon from top mid-section of tank. Also fuel gauge has been acting up since this started going from full to empty while driving.

Complete transmission failure with out notice.purchased extened service plan, 2,700 past warrenty and will not honor. Only 98000 miles.yukon was never used off road or to haul anything heavy.

The automatic transmission failed.*scc

Transmission failed without warning.no 2nd gear or reverse.truck has never been taken off road or pulled a trailer.gm is reviewing the case as it is out of the original 36 mo./ 36,000 mi. Warranty.

1998 gmc yukon needs transmission replaced, which is becoming a problem with this and other suv's from gm.

Dt: the contact stated about three -four weeks agothe abs kicked in at low speeds, and he has no stopping power. The dealer toldthe contactthe bearing hubs needed to be replaced. About two weeks ago he noticed a grinding noise coming from the transmission area. The dealer told him the transfer case needed to be removed and likely replaced.

Driver side seat (left front connection) broke while getting into car. The welded connection broke through the metal frame on the seat. A rear end collision would have allowed the seat to break into the back seat passenger area if not the rear of the vehicle.

Bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour, brakes went to the floor causing about a 10 mph impact into pickup in front of us. Glad we weren't up to speed when the brakes went. Upon further inspection, i have rusted brake lines, and the front crossover line leaking profusely due to corrosion of metal.

The contact owns a 1998 gmc yukon. The contact stated that when he attempted to brake at low speeds, the abs brake module activated and the vehicle would not stop. The contact disconnected the fuse for the abs braking system to temporarily remedy the failure. As a result, the vehicle no longer had abs braking ability. The failure occurred numerous times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall addressing the failure, but the vehicle was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 156,000.

The contact owns a 1998 gmc yukon. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking brake fluid abnormally. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the brake lines were severely rusted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the entire brake line system from front to rear was replaced. The failure and current mileage was 88,000. The abs sensors failed three times. Updated 03/03/11

Dt:the contact stated therewas a recall for this make and model, but his vehicle was not included in the recall.the abs activated while applying the brakes at low speeds.there was vibration in the brake pedal, and extended stopping distance when the brakes were applied.the abs light didnot illuminate, indicating a problem with the brakes.the problem became progressively worse over the past year.the service dealer stated that they duplicated the problem, and it was the same problem as indicated on the recall.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 5mph and below, the abs engaged.as a result, the stopping distance was increased.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, concerning the abs.the vehicle has the same problems as in the recall; however is not included in the recall because of the vin.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who recommended cleaning the wheel speed sensor however, the contact declined.

Dt*:the contact stated intermittently, while stopping the brakes would grab.this occurred at various speeds.the contact cleaned the sensors and there is no longer a problem.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes.the vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.updated 2/20/2007 - rust had built up under the front abs sensor which caused sensor errors.

Anti-lock brakes engage at slow speeds and increase stopping distance.

Anilock brake system failure since purchase, causing vehicle to violently pull to the side when suddenly applying brakes, almost resulted in an accident. Several repairs, however problem continues. Aw

I have a 1998 gmc yukon and for the past 3 years i've been dealing with the gm antilock brake problem outlined in the 1999 thru 2002 recall. There have been many close calls over the last 3 years and when the antilock brakes kick in for no apparent reason at low speeds it is both very un-nerving and scary. Is there any chance of the recall also covering 1998 year vehicles?

I just bought a 1998 yukon and during inspection asked about my brake issues. I was told that there was a recall for the abs. I looked it up and it is doing exactly what the recall states (gm re-call #05068). During low-speed braking, it has an increased stopping distance, which could result in a crash. The recall is only for 1999-2002 vehicles. I'm wondering why the 1998's weren't included in this re-call as it is apparent that they have the same issue. What should i do about this?

Abs brake problems; 3 0r 4 times a day when applying the brakes, under normal braking situations, regualr road condtions, the pedal goes down to the floor broad and the abs does not kick in,resulting in extended stopping distance.vehicle has been to the dealer (6) times for brake problems. Dealer admitted there was a problem with the abs, but could not rectify. On 5/12/98, driver was involved in a crash due to brake problems.

When applying the brakessuddenly and then releasing the brake pedal, there is a jerk to the vehicle. Dealer has seenvehicle and said itwasnormal. This problem occurrs sporadically.

This vehicle has historically been bad for wear on discs and pads. I had just replaced the discs and pads once again, and was in an accident. I really think the problem was with the abs system and not the disc or pads.

While stopping at slow speed, my anti-lock brakes activated on my 1998 gmc yukon causing me to narrowly miss an accident. The system would do this at least once a day with no warning. I had the vehicle repaired - the corrosion was removed from under the brake sensors. Months later i saw gm issue a recall on this issue but vehicle years were from 1999-2003 not including 1998. I called gm and they refused to cover my 1998 under the recall even though the parts are identical in the braking system between a 1998 and 1999.

Nar 05/28/2003*mr the consumer brakes locked in a major traffic jam due to sensor failure and the cost of repairs were approx $455.00.

Brake pedal reached the floor when depressed and brakes keep on squeaking even after repair. Yh

Brake system on the yukon is a weak link on an otherwise great vehicle. We have complained about the brakes to the dealership numerous times and was told that it is normal. The problem with it is that the pedal goes almost to the floor everytime it is used and you tend to wonder if the truck will stop in time. I read in the paper this week that the yukon's brakes on the 1999 and later trucks were recalled and would bet that the problem is the same. Either way i want a complaint listed about these lousy brakes on the 98 model yukon and maybe gmc will design a fix for this lousy system.

This vehicle has historically been bad for wear on discs and pads. I had just replaced the discs and pads once again, and was in an accident. I really think the problem was with the abs system and not the disc or pads.

Front rotors and pads warped and worn out.

While applying the brakes, the pedal went to the floor.the driver noticed the brakes lack of braking power in order to stop the distance.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection.the mechanic informed the consumer that the rotor needed to be replaced due to the rotors being warped.please fill in additional information.

While driving, the vehicle ride started to be choppy no longer smooth and when i applied the brakes the vehicle felt like it was bucking, then when we proceeded down the roadwe heard a loud bang of metal ,then it felt like the brake pad had broken or caliper had fallen and it was grindingthe noise lessened with a little pressure on brake pedal. Service station found center of rotor had separated on front passengers side and driver's side was ready to go. I called gmc and was told there have been no recalls on 1998 yukon's for rotors and becausei had 102731 miles it was not their problem. Both rotors were replaced with new pads, i told gmc that i kept the original rotors from service station. Updated 01/27/06.

Consumer complained about a steering problem.there was a lost of motion in the steering wheel and it was loose. The vehicle was very unstable when drivingat high speeds.the vehicle would veer into oncoming lanes and or in traffic with no warning. *sc

Consumer stated thatfor six monthswhile driving and making left turnssteering became loose.

The steering over compensates at speeds of 20+. Please refer to ea99-011, as it is consistent with that document.*la

Vehicle has the same problemas stated in nhtsa recall nhtsa 97v142000. Vehicle description:light duty extended-cab pickup trucks and 4-door utility trucks. The lower steering shaft to steering gear pinch bolt is "finger loose" or missing allowing the bolt to loosen and fall out.the steering shaft yoke can wear, causing an off center steering wheel.

Power steering pump lost "power", luckily, at low speed and close to home.the pulley shaft broke off at the impeller.i replaced the pump, with a reman from autozone.the "new" pump lasted about 25 miles before it's shaft broke.i'm installing a replacement reman this evening.

The power steering goes into "full mode" at speeds above about 25 mph, making a one inch movement of the steering wheel into the equivalent of a one quarter turn of the wheel. It is especially dangerous on the freeway, although on city streets it makes the vehicle jerk around in the lane. This has already been reported and has resulted in one death and about 8-10 accidents. My wife and children will not drive the vehicle due to this condition, and i have had several "close calls" due to this faulty gmc part, which has a technical service bulletin already published about it.

Noise in steering wheel when turning. Dealer was notified.consumer was informed by dealer, that the problem was a sir coil in the steering column.

I have a 1998 gmc yukon that has a problem with the steering box and i have cotacted gmc customer service about recall #97v142000 and they said they knew of no recall at all for 98 yukons and i know that it is by vin #s but my vehical is having the same problems described in the recall on other yukons. I am loosing my steering!

A noticeable pull to the left when going around a curve that goes to the left, it will startle you at first. Possibly the steering box or related steering column. Has happened to many times to remember.freinds of mine also experienced the same problem with 98 tahoe, i thought it was just my vehicle, then i did some researchand there is a recall on this problem, which gmc says there is a potential for only like 45oo vehicles involved ,but i believe there is a lot more.please help .

On right turns steering wheel/ gear feels it is sliping on occasions, it feels as if the front wheels are sliding on ice for a second .gmc garage in el paso replaced steering pump, did not solve the problem.

Our 98 gmc yukon should have 2 recalls, one for the wiper motor that everything the year upto ours was made had one & ours had the same problem alll the other recalls did & we had nothing recalled on ours, the 2nd is the steering gear box owners were notified of the problem but ours the same year but not out vin # fell in the catagory of recalls but its the same problem the others had that needed repaired

A bad odor was cominginto the vehicle through the vents which caused the occupants to feel ill.the driver and passenger side floormats were wet and covered by corrosion. The vehicle was towed to the dealership for analysis and the mechanic found green mold located underneath the floor mats.water was leaking inside of the wheels well and drained inside of the vehicle.please provide details.*nlm

Due toimproperly designed roof and wheel well weldsa water leak occurred, causing water to enter into the electrical system, resulting in no electrical power andstalling, and will not restart.dealer fixed the welds, but problem is reoccurring.dealer said theremight more defective welds in the vehicle.also problem when t a stop, vehicle will accelerate.dealer cannot determine the problem.please provide further information and vin#.

The trunk area has a leak insidewhich causes a bad smell and growth of mold. Manufacturer has been notified.

My concerns are a health issue. I've owned a 1996 yukon and i now own a 1998 yukon. And both have water leak problems in the rear end of the vehicle, the problem with the leak is that they go unnoticed by the consumer because of the location.when you drive your suv in wet weather, watercomes in the vehicle somewhere. The whole back of the truck gets wet, how wet depends on how bad the weather is. Hard to detect because, you don't sit in the back of your truck for one, and the carpet mat that covers the back area for two, and the fact that it dries up. My concerns are the mold, and mildew, and spores that are growing, and going untreated. What happens to the small children traveling in these vehicles, and the people with severe allergies to mold and mildew. I've made two case files with them on this issue and they bought my 1996 yukon back from me because they could not find the leak nor fix it. I am now trying to get them to take care of these problems with my 1998.my sister in-law also bought a 1996 yukon with the same problem, and she then bought a 1999 tahoe, again the same problem in the same place. She would have never know to look under the mat if i didn't bring it to her attention.

Mine problem is similar to this one (odi id: 741897 ) that i found posted on your web site. My mechanic said he wasn't sure what the problem is but we could start by replacing the steering box and going from there. Have spoken with 2 other yukon owners and they said they've had the same problem but that gmc basically felt they were feeling something that didn't exist.

The speed sensor in the power steering system causes the steering to change from very stiff (i.e., difficult to turn the steering wheel) to very loose (i.e., very easy to turn the steering wheel). This problem also caused the driver to nearly loose contol of the vehicle while driving on the interstate.

Vehicle experiencing rough idle.

Electric door lock mechanism and dual electric exterior driver side mirror have failed twice.

About 3 hours into a long-distance trip, during heavy rain, the windshield wipers on my car quit working. I was pulling a camp trailer and had 4 children in the car with me. It was a very frighening experience and caused us all great distress and anxiety with the dangerous situation. There was no pull-out available so i was forced to stop the vehicle while it stuck out in the roadway. I turned off the engine and opened the hood of the car. I lightly hit the wiper motor with a rock.the wipers started working again. I continued driving with caution not knowing when the wipers might quit working again. Since that time i have used a lubricant to help repell water from my windshield and try to limit the use of my wipers unless absolutely necessary. I cannot depend on my wipers to give me visability. I contacted the gmc assistance center in detroit and filed a complaint with them. They did not write me back. My gmc mechanic has also tried to get gmc to replace this known defect in their washer assembly, also without success.please put pressure on gmc to include 1998 yukons in their recall

The windshield wiper motor on my 1988 gmc yukon occassionally fails in wet weather. (as described in your file #30v159000) the recall associated with this, 03023 , does not cover my vehicle.

On several occasions my 1998 gmc yukon windshield wipers stopped working.the first time i was on the interstate towing a 23 ft. Boat!i know gm has recalled many vehicles for this problem but they did not include 1998 models! please make them fix the whole problem before a lot of people die! i almost took out threevehicles before i could get over on the shoulder!i've fixed my yukon already because it was to dangerous to drive but gm is still dropping the ball!

While driving in rainy weather front windshield wipers failed.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Windshield wipers stopped functioning due to the wires disconnecting, causing poor visibility during inclement weather.

Driving on the interstate in so. Idaho, during a heavy rainstorm, in moderate traffic, my windshield wiper suddenly stopped working. I could not see anything in front of me (through the windshield) and had to guide my car to the shoulder of the road using the side window for visability. I repeatedly turned the wiper switches but could not get them to work. I sat by the side of the interstate for over 20 minutes with my engine running while trying to get the wipers to start working again. They did not. I had to abandon my vehicle and flag down a passing vehicle to assist me in getting help. When i returned to the vehicle with a mechanic, and started my yukon up, the wipers worked fine. I immediately took the vehicle to a gmc dealer where i first learned that the wiper motor was defective, i learned that gmc knew it was defective and also learned that gmc was not going to fix the problem.

Dt: a recall was issued on the windshield wiper motor, however, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin even though it has beenat the dealer for the same failure that was mentioned in the recall.the windshield wipers worked intermittently.this started on december 2, 2004 and continued to do this two or three times a week.the vehicle was in motion when the wipers went out.*sc

For the past year, my wipers have been stopping intermittently.especially when it is raining, they do not start.i try when the weather is dryer, and they seem to work at that time, however, still intermittenly.

The windshield wipers on my 1998 yukon never seem to want to work when it rains.other times they seem to be ok about 50% of the time, but the failure in the rain is about 75%.

Intermittentlywindshield wipersdo not function.

While driving in the rain the windshield wipers stopped for no apparent reason.i had to change lanes through traffic and stop on the shoulder because i had no visibility.this same event has happened a couple of times previous to this incident.my husband own a different gmc vechile that was recalled due to the same problem.it seems that the 1998 yukon was not included in the most recent recall related to this problem and i believe this is a serious issue that gm should address.this defect is putting alot of people in danger and it is very clear that gm is aware of it.

While driving on the interstate during a wet snow-storm, in heavy traffic that contributed to the slush on our windshield, the windshield wipers quit working. It is only by the grace of god that i was able to cross lanes and reach the side of the road. I turned off my engine and waited for approx. 10 minutes for the wiper motor to cool down. My gmc mechanic told me that there has been a recall on this exact motor but that gmc has not included the 1998 year yukons included. This is the third time my wipers have stopped working - always during long-term driving and during heavy use of the wipers. I have written to gmc about the problem and requested their help. They were not interested in helping me nor were they concerned about the safety of myself, my family and other drivers on the road that are severely at risk with this problem.

While driving with the windshield wipers on they will suddenly quit working. Consumer has to exist the truck and play with the wiper for them to restart.this results in poor visibility and almost causes accidents. There's a recall 03v159000 for this issue but the model and year is outside the remedy scope.

Recently, my daughter, tracye, a special education teacher for the dawson county georgia school system, called me for help with her 1998 yukon.at days end, she proceededto her vehicle to go home.it was raining heavily at the time.her windshied wipers would not start.she called me, and i had her check the fuse which was ok.i then left my home to drive the 80 miles to her school.while i was enroute, she called and said the rain was reducing, and she then drove the 20 miles to her home without wipers.i continued on to her home, some 90 miles from my home.the next morning, it was not raining, so i told her to drive my vehicle to school, and i would drive her vehicle for repair.i went to napa auto parts with the problem.napa was very familiar with the problem; stating that gm cars had a well known problem with the solder connections breaking on the electronic board that controls the wipers.unfortunately, he had to order the board which was going to be delivered the next morning.i left napa and went to the chevrolet dealer.he was familiar with the problem, but said the repair covered by gm went from 94 through 97 models. The next morning, i got the part from napa and went to a napa repair shop.they were very familiar with this recurring problem on gm cars.since i was waiting, they repaired the vehicle immediately.the circuit board was the problem.i dropped my daughter's vehicle at her school and returned home.i feel that this well-known problem is a safety item in that occurrence while driving in heavy rain likely would cause an accident.this problem should be a recall by gm and the cost of the board and the labor should be borne by gm.owners should be covered also for repairs/parts completed at other shops.

Windshield wipers fail.
