2005 gmc yukon.consumer writes in regards to various electronic problems including service air bag indicator.the consumer stated he experienced chronic problems with speedometer, starting problems, wheel hub and traction control sensor. Also, the transfer case was replaced.
Dt*: the contact stated the air bag light on the dash illuminated on four separate occasions.each time, a repair was made that did not affect the air bag light.on the forth occurrence the vehicle was towed to the dealer who could not find the problem.
Instrument panel clustergauge needle -- speedometer gauge -- works intermittently. It sticks on 0mph, on a previous rate of speed regardless of increase or decrease, ordisplays rate of speed at 100+ mph. Very inconsistent. When the speedometer does decide to work it is about 10-15 mph off of accurate rate of speed.(compared to gps that displays current rate of speed) it was takento dealer and contact stated that it is same cluster panel gauge of 2003-04 year models currently in recall although has not extended to 2005-06 year models at this time.
My 2005 gmc yukon xl 1500 will spontaneously shift itself into 4lo. This doesn't only happen at low speeds. It occurs at all speeds when the vehicle is moving and in gear. When it happens, all of the lights on the push-button 4wd control module will light up or flash. No amount of button-pushing will disengage 4 wheel drive. I have also not come across any sort of manual fix, i.e. Turning off the ignition, taking the vehicle out of gear, backing up, etc.this has happened more than 5 times, and has only ceased to happen because i have removed the relay which controls the 4wd system. I am firmly convinced that it is only through sheer blind luck or divine intervention that no one has been injured while operating this vehicle. Let me restate: this issue occurs entirely at random, and not only when just starting off driving. It occurs at speed! when this happens, the vehicle literally can go from traveling at 35 mph to less than 5 mph. Keep in mind that since the brake is not depressed, following drivers have no warning of this rapid decline in speed. I believe that this is a fundamental defect in gm vehicles using this 4 wheel drive system. I think that the only reason the problem is not seen as more widespread is that the issue happens in differently-named makes and models. For instance, my problem may not be readily connected with the same issue in a chevrolet suburban, although the two are essentially the same vehicle. Further, i believe that gm is aware that this safety hazard is the result of a manufacturing defect and is unwilling to take responsibility for the problem. A simple internet search of "stuck in 4lo" without identifying a manufacturer, brings up almost exclusively gm-built fullsize trucks using the same push-button system. I don't believe that this is mere coincidence. Here is an opportunity for [xxx] to show that gm owns up to its errors.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The speedometer sticks .....the problem is a faulty stepper motor which essentially controls the movement of the speedometer needle. Aprox $600.00 to repair instrument cluster.
This vehicle has been in and out of the shop several times for the same reason, "reduced engine power".it puts me in a dangerous position sometimes because the vehicle will suddenly go into this "limp mode"i have spent several thousand dollars in repairs and fixes by qualified mechanics and yet this problem will not go away.after much research i find that i among many people with the same problem.it happened three times yesterday!

The contact owns a 2005 gmc yukon xl. While driving approximately 70 mph he noticed that most of the gauges on the instrument cluster were no longer working. He stated that the temperature gauge was working. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who performed a diagnostic test and statedthat the instrument cluster was defective.the vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure and current mileages were 60,000.
Speedometer will not work properly.will either stay at 0mph or is stuck at 60 mph regardless if the vehicle is moving or not.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc yukon xl. The contact stated that the speedometer malfunctioned and would not display the speed that she was driving. The dealer was contacted and stated that there was a related recall; however, her vehicle identification number was not included and refused to offer any assistance with the repair. The failure mileage was 60000 and the current mileage was 69500.
Vehicle's instrument panel fails to operate properly. Vehicle is out of warranty coverage. Speedometer registers ~40 mph when vehicle is standing still. Oil pressure gauge 'pegs out'. Gas gauge is unreliable. Vehicle is 2005 year, gmc has recalled instrument panels on 2003 and 2004 model years, but not 2005.with unreliable instrument panel, this is a safety hazard. Made a visit to dealer. Diagnosed as needing new instrument panel at cost exceeding $600. We feel that gmc should consider extending recall to encompass 2005 models as well.
Speedometer stopped working, at a dead stop sits at 60 mph then goes up.
Speedo starts at 35 mph not zero!
Went on a vacation this past summer to idaho and noticed that the speedometer quite working.it would be 60 mph while sitting still and over 120 when moving.of course we were pulled over for going over the speed limit.by the end of the day, the fuel gauge and temperature gauge also went.now all the gauges are not working.took it a gm dealer and had to pay close $690 to have repaired.after reading online this sounds like it has been quite an issue with several gm vehicles.i believe that this should be a recall.
Problems with speedometer not working all the time.
I have had my 2005 yukon in the service department of the dealership that i purchased it from on several occasions.the service 4wd light and stability sys disabled lights keep coming on.they have replaced the first transfer case module and when the problem persisted they replaced the second transfer case module.i asked them to check the stability sysbut they said they couldn't just check it without a recall. The lights continued to come on and more problems started occurring.the 4l and the service 4wd light and stability sys disabled lights would rotate flashing and i could not get the 2wd light to stay on and although it said it was in 4l it was still in 2wd and it tried to lock up a few times.then the neutral red light was on and both warning lights were flashing but was still driving in 2wd.next none of the 2wd, 4wd or neutral lights were on but both warnings were flashing and the (t/c) icon on the dash was displayed and i couldn't get that to go off but again was still driving in 2wd.finally, it was literally locked into 4l, was making awful grinding noises, both warnings were flashing and (t/c) icon were all on and i couldn't get it out of 4l no matter what i tried.i was stranded (it was dark and late).i had to have it towed to the dealership.now they have replaced the encoder motor but i am still very concerned there is still more damage and i am going to continue to have problems with it.if i had been going down the freeway or at a higher speed, i am confident that i could have been in an awful accident and been seriously injured or worse yet dead!i commute to work, have clients with me and always have children with me going to sporting events, field trip, etc.there has been ongoing problems with this vehicle since i purchased it in june 2005 and each time it gets more serious!i am very concerned for my safety and the safety of my passengers!!!could someone please call me regarding this serious issue-i am afraid to drive the vehicle now!!!thank you!
A bolt head for the exhaust manifold broke off and is causing emission problems.
At 70 mph on a freeway, reduced engine power message came on and vehicle lost power slowing to 20mph. Dangerous with all the traffic around.

While driving i hear a winding sound coming from wheel area while driving i smell fuel that comes and goes recently had full tune up now car starts to tick after a while of driving or even pressing on gas while in park it stops while driving car stalls and indicates coil is bad from check engine light being on i had changed coils and car still stalls
Getting gas and it keeps clicking,
The contact owns a 2005 gmc yukon xl. The contact stated that there was a flapping noise that came from the exhaust. There were exhaust fumes inside the cabin of the vehicle as well. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they determined that the manifold bolts were corroded fractured. The failure had also occurred in the past. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000. The current mileage was 69,000.
After getting full tune up my engine starts ticking when i start my my car after a while of driving the ticking stops car stalls while drivingand check engine blinks on and off . Already changed coils from instructed read still get stalling. Brake booster light is on and i have a fuel smell that comes and goes while driving
On several occasions between 2/05/11 and 3/8/11 while driving at night, with headlamps in auto mode, idling at a full stop, the headlights and dash lighting shut off completely and will not reset in auto mode. Gm repaired by replacing a ambient light sensor on 3/9/11. This did not fix the problem. Problem only occurs while stopped/idling at night (does not occur at normal driving speeds). Headlights/dash lighting work correctly in manual mode.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc yukon xl.since june 26, 2009, the fuel pump fails to pump gasoline, which prevents the vehicle from starting.the vehicle has not been inspected and the contact feels that this is a safety hazard.the failure mileage was 85,000.updated 08/21/09.*ljupdated 08/26/09.

2005 gmc yukon xl gear shifts can be moved when the ignition is turned to the accessory position. *mr when in any position, the brake must be applied.gm suggested that this was normal operation. *sc

Middle row passenger seat does not click into place with out shoving it back several times until it "latches" (after allowing children in the back seat then trying to put seat back into place).if not clicked in the seat slides back and forth.
I have a brake problem, the dynamic electronic brake system turns on at times during running and the rim heats up and a strong smell of brakes comes out, on two occasions the rear tires exploded and i caused an accident on the highway.when the vehicle was new in 2005, the dealer changed the brakes, abs and other components, but they were not responsible for the problem, then in 2010 again, i changed all the components related to the brakes but it remains the same. Sometimes the dynamic brake is activated and the rings and rear rubbers are heated. I do not use the vehicle for long roads for safety. I bought it in 2005 and it now has 73,100 miles. I am looking for if any dealer or owner in the usa has or had the same problem. Thank you..
Driving home, leaving our current locality the brakes failed to work.were able to press brake to the floor without having the vehicle stop. Investigated the next day (after having to borrow a vehicle) and brake lines are flaking and leaking fluid. Took to repair shop after putting on "temporary" break line (which we found out will not work on our vehicle).having it replaced but shop called and can not do it and we have to take it to the dealer to fix since the body has to be taken off and brake lines replaced.

Step on brake went to floor no brakes. Brake line and ac line rusted drivers side. Replaced brake line still have no air.$60,000 truck and they can't use s/s lines? ya! am pissed, won't buy gm again.
At low speeds 3-5 mph the anti-lock brakes engage - which cause the vehicle to travel longer distances to stop.this has caused several near misses.i have since removed the abs fuse after reading the detroit news about similar problems in canada and a national recall to solve the problem.gm has yet to recall this safety problem in the us...where most of the vehicle are not submitted to salt corrosion like we are in detroit.
Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 15 mph, the vehicle's brakes failed and the contact had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.the service dealer replaced the master cylinder, but this had not corrected the issue.the brakes had failed on two other occasions, but the dealer could not find the problem.
We bought this vehicle in may of 05.since this time we have brought it to the dealer on three separate occasions due to brake failure.while traveling at a low rate of speed the brakes on occasion fail to engage and we end up sliding forward a few feet.each time the dealer says that they can not find a problem with the brakes and that they must experience the problem in order to repair the vehicle. The last time this happened we almost hit another vehicle.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc yukon xl.while making either a left or right turn at 10 mph, the contact could hear a loud popping or clicking sound.she took the vehicle to a local dealer and they adjusted the straps, lubed the front, and tightened the cross member bolts.the failure was also present in the rear of the vehicle and the dealer performed the same repairs as were made to the front end.the vehicle was returned to the dealer at 11,600 miles for the same failure and repairs.at 14,100 miles, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they repaired the radiator support.at 18,962 miles, the vehicle was returned to the dealer for the popping and clicking sounds.the steering intermediate shaft was replaced.on july 7, 2006, the dealer repaired the front suspension cross member bolts again.at 35,661 miles, the steering shaft was replaced due to the same failure.at 42,092 miles, the steering shaft had to be replaced again.at 67,762 miles, the dealer stated that the drive shaft needed to be replaced.the steering wheel made a squealing noise when it was turned.no repairs have yet been made for the most recent failure.the failure mileage was 3,998 and current mileage was 67,762.
Yukon xl has a constant vibration, knocking/rattling noise, that is felt in the steering column/shaft. Gmc is and has been aware of faulty steering shafts and will not pay for replacement if your vehicle is out of warranty. Gmc has even sued the manufacturer of the steering shaft, yet will not recall this item.
I have a 2005 gmc yukon xl and was almost hit because i could not turn effectively. When turning right at low speed the vehicle loses power steering capability. When i took it in to be looked at the repair shop said there is a repair note that the car will do this and to put on a larger steering/hydraulic part to try to stop the loss of power but that it still might happen due to a design problem. I had my grandson in the car and 15yr and all could have been killed. The problem is still happening whenever you try to turn right.
- the contactheard a beeping noise at the rear of the2005 gmc yukon when she sloweddown to make a turnwhile driving at 15 mph. She heard this noise for about 5 seconds. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they lubricated the column boot. The contact stated this did not fix the problem. The vehicle currently had 18000 miles.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc yukon xl 1500. The contact stated the rear lift hatch would not open. The dealer advised that the latch mechanism often would become stuck and could not be opened from the exterior of the vehicle with the keys. The dealer advised the failure could be repaired at the contacts expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 77,000.updated 09/29/10. *lj
