Consumer 2002 gmc yukon air bags failed to deploy.***nar***
Events leading up to the failure: 2002 yukon 73,000 miles.no previous events leading up to the problem. Failure/consequences: 2002 yukon: i started my car and abs light stayed on.while driving, i could feel an abnormal vibration throughout my car.(with my two small children, we pulled off to the side of the road on the right of way.i cut off my car (removed key out of ignition) and the car sounded like it was still on. Correct the problem: i called my gmc dealer in austin texas where i had purchased the vehicle and the service manager told me that he has seen many incidents such as this.he indicated that if i left the abs motor running, that my battery would die and/or the motor would ruin. So, he instructed me to raise the hood and remove the 60amp abs fuse. By doing so, the vibration/motor stopped. He said to bring it into the garage for service. His initial guess was that it was the abs module orebcm needed to be replaced.because my vehicle was no longer in warranty, he estimated that it could cost anywhere between $1100.00-1900.00 dollars. I have done research on the internet and there are many 1999-2004 gm suvs and trucks which have experienced this problem. I am requesting that a recall be placed for these modules.
Dt: the consumer believes that there are electrical problems with the gmc. The water pump was out, the radio has quit working5 times, and has beenreplaced 4 times, the windows on the passengerquit, and the regulator wasreplaced 4 times. This has happened at35,000 miles.
Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 75 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.the vehicle restarted and the manufacturer was alerted.updated 11/9/2006 - the vehicle stalled three times in one day and another time about 16 months ago.the consumer was told by a service manager that the problem was with a computer ring in the key switch assembly.
2002 yukon xl has inherent design flaw.rear passenger doors may be slightly open and the driver panel is not alerted.
Electrical failure of the load leveling device.fuses consistantly fail when compresser activates when load is in or on vehicle.this occurs with or without a trailer hooked up.this has been a proble since the purchase of the vehicle in mid 2002.attempted to be fixed three times in the lase 30 days.dealer unable to isolate the problem. Independant mechanic says due to electrical problem high probably of fire or burn out of wiring.
I swerved to miss a deer and i hit a tree running 47 mph and my air bags didn't deploy and no one can tell me why. My husband and i were very lucky but why didn't the air bags deploy? my husband was out of work for 5 months due to torn ligaments in his shoulders and still has to have surgery.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted after eight attempts. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the crankshaft position sensor was faulty. There was a recall issued for the 2001 gmc yukon model under nhtsa campaign id number 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was currently being repaired. Themanufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 62,700.
Original problem: my 2002 yukon xl was running poorly when the weather turned cold - below 30 degrees. Problem diagnosed as faulty intake gaskets due to improper design. Second problem: it became hard to start, and a couple of days later, it would not start at all. Problem diagnosed as faulty fuel pump. Both problems are because they were designed for use with ethanol or unleaded gas. I only use unleaded (never have seen a station that sells ethanol). If your gm vehicle has a 5.3l v8 engine, and the vin has a z in the 8th position, be aware that this might happen to your vehicle. If not under warranty, it is very costly! the gaskets and the fuel pump alone cost over $630. Labor over $500.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl.the contact stated that the vehicle would not start.in addition, the vehicle would stall intermittently while driving at various speeds.the engine would completely shut off.occasionally, the vehicle would immediately restart, but other times, it would take a while.there were no warning indicators prior to the failure.the vehicle stalled the most during deceleration.the vehicle was towed once and the dealer made several attempts to correct the failure, but has been unsuccessful.the current mileage was 54,409 and failure mileage was 14,523. Updated 04/29/08.*ljthe consumer stated the crankshaft position sensor was replaced. The consumer stated there have been no further problems. Updated
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stopped accelerating and a battery indication light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle stalled and when it was restarted, the failure occurred again. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was informed that the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 116,000.
Broken exhaust manifold studs are causing environmental hazard and may lead to failed catalytic converter and other engine problems. This is a manufacturing defect that should be recalled, as it renders the vehicle either unusable or unable to pass environmental testing.
Car stalls while traveling down highway, occurs at least once on each trip. Time of occurrence is between 3 and 30 miles. Several times it has stalled and would not restart while in motion, those time took several minutes to five minutes to get it restarted. Problem started six months ago and has proceeded getting worse. Has been serviced by dealership 5 times since first time. They have replaced several items that have not corrected the problem. We have had several near rear end crashes and scary moments when on the inside lane of an interstate pulling a 16 ft trailer.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl.on six separate occasions, while driving at any speed, the vehicle completely shut off and would not restart immediately.the vehicle would shut off while accelerating from a traffic light or stop sign, and would not restart immediately.the vehicle failed to start on a few occasions while in park.nhtsa campaign id number 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling) is identical to the failure the contact is experiencing.the current mileage was 76,000 and failure mileage was 70,000.updated 11/12/08.*ljupdated 11/14/08.

Engine shuts down while driving:i have a yukon xl 2002. Over the past 6 months the engine would suddenly shut down while the car is being driven. It has occurred at high speed and at low speed. I have taken it back to the dealer no less than 5 times and the problem persists.this represents a major danger as while on the highway, when the engine shuts down the car becomes difficult to maneuver and moving out of the highway traffic has been each time extremely dangerous to me and to other drivers.
My gmc yukon 2500 with the 8.1l stalls while driving.this is unexplainable and unrepeatable.this has occurred probably 6 or 7 times and is a real danger as you loose power steering and brakes.i believe it is the cam positioning sensor.what is my recourse to have fixed by manufacturer.
I realize this may not seem like a safety issue; but bear with me.we have a yukon xl gmc 2002 model.we have had the carpet replaced 3 times!! there is a defect in the carpet on this model.it sheds, not a little hand fulls.if you roll the window down "fuzz" from the carpet is flying everywhere.after discussion with anne marie executive for gmc, i learned that 2002, 2003, and soon to be 2004 carpet is like this. This will cause an accident count on it.you are so caught off guard at the flying carpet.please just look into this matter.i received an answer of that is just the way it is and we don't have to change it.
Promblems started at 16,471 steering started rattling, and felt loose, dealer looked at & lubricated intermediate shaft along with downshifting on its own ?? 12/05/02.at 20226 02/20/03 still having promblems with transmisson clunking between shifting points r/r and greased splines at transmission, along with harmonic noise comming from running boards, tighten up running boards, transmissinon was also slipping & they reset transmission adaptives,09/04/03 still having promblems with transmission clunking at shift points they reset shift adaptives & relearn shift points still same promblems when i left dealer.06/16/04 36987 last warranty work...same complaint as always about sterring noise and transmission, inspected and replaced intermediate steering shaft, drivers window stopped working they replaced window regulator, fluids leaking they replaced leaking trans gasket.now out of warranty,at 49,000 just replaced window regulator again, steering still a promblem but now steering box is shooting fluid out top seal on box, need to replace steering box at my cost.still very worried about steering ..i am so disappointed with my yukon,i will never but another cmc product again,no one seems to care but for $43,000 you would think they would.we use all chevy trucks in our fleet in my bussiness we are considering going foreign, not very proud of our american trucks.

Vehicle ran out of gas, fuel gauge read 1/4 tank
2000 gmc yukon xl.fuel leak in my garage after filling gas tank.leaked at least 6-8 gallons of fuel into garage.service facility diagnosed problem to be faulty plunger in fuel pump.very dangerous, since my garage contains gas hot water heater with pilot.hazardous material cleanup (required by fire department) cost $1600.*nlm
2002 gmc yukon xl fuel pump failure. Ecmb fuse was blown which runs the fuel pump. Fuel pressure was found at 24 psi. This engine requires 55-62 psi.current draw on the pump is at 9 amps. This is way toohigh. Truck was started after replacing fuse, but runs badly and stalls out. Truck is not under warranty, because the dealership filled out wrong paperwork at the time of purchase. The contract was denied because of this error. Cost for replacing fuel pump is $950.00. Truck is still not fixed.jb

Vehicle would not start.fuel pump was defective.had fuel pump replaced.
Dt*:the contact stated when the fuel tank has less than a quarter of a tank of gasoline, the vehicle would not start unless more gasoline was added to the tank.the vehicle was seen by a dealer and the fuel pump was replaced.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v155000, regarding the fuel system.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.updated 05/10/06.
Several instances of vehical stalling, not starting or runniong properly due to fuel pump
Theconsumer had difficulty filling the gas tank.the consumernoticed the tank had to be filled slowly.when reaching about 3/4 full, fuel leaked out. Consumer contacted gm they claimed there was a bulletin out regarding the problem and the dealership never fixed the vehicle. Consumer felt gm should issue a recall on the defective vehicle.
Fuel tank leaks when filled beyond 2/3-3/4 full. Gas tank leaked gas on garage floor damaging coated/sealed floor. Fortunately leakage was discovered before it was able to ignite.vehicle was taken to dealer and i was advised that in fact the problem was a faulty gas tank.i was also advised initially that a replacement tank would not be available until january, 2004.as it turns out, they obviously have had a significant number of these complaints and i suspect that they have had to redesign and produce a safer replacement tank.my dealer has replaced "several" of these tanks.why was there not a notice sent out to the owners of these vehicles when they are aware of the significance of the problem.are we going to have to wait until the leakage of fuel in our garages is ignited with a water heater coming on while we are sleeping?this problem must be addressed immediately. I purchased another identical yukon xl with my daughter from this same dealer. This vehicle is currently out of service at the dealers location waiting for a replacement gas tank.*la
I have a 2002 gmc yukon xl and it does not have the latch system. I learned from the local sheriff's office that all vehicles manufactured in the year 2002 and after should have the latch system.
2002 yukon xl has inherent design flaw.rear passenger doors may be slightly open and the driver panel is not alerted.
I have a 2002 gmc yukon. It has 70,000 miles on it. I recently tried to get it inspected. It failed because of the parking brake. I was told that there have been several gm products that have this same problem. I took my vehicle back to the dealer. The told me that there has been several problems with the parking brake and it has been re-designed. They also said that it was not re-called beause it is not a safety isue.(although i could not get a safety inspection because of it). I agreed with the dealer to pay 50% of the cost to fix it. When the vehicle was repaired i noticed on the receipt, and the cashier acknowleded it, that it was covered under warranty. The next day the dealer called wanting to collect $150.00 for the repairs. I feel this should be a recall. I would like for someone to look into this matter and e-mail me the results.
During 2004 state vehicle emissions and safety inspection it was determined that the parking brake did not work.as a result vehicle failed inspection and will not pass until issue resolved.gmc customer assistance notified 12/21 and diagnosis and repair to begin 12/22.when parking brake is pressed, the pedal easily reaches the floor and does not hold vehicle.
In may 2005 my vehicle failed state inspection due to parking brake could not hold vehicle.prior to having the repairs donei contacted the dealership where i had purchased it and was told there was no recall at this time.i then had the place where the inspection was done repair the vehicle.in april of 2006 i noticed my brakes were squeaking when i was in reverse.i took it in for repair and was told the back pads that were replaced last year needed to be replaced again. I contacted gm and was told there was nothing to be done because there is no recall on my vehicle.this is a 2002 gmc yukon i bought new in 2001.it has 56000 miles on it.i do not feel i should be having this many problems.the gm rep was not helpful at all.i will never buy another gm vehicle again.
2002 gmc yukon xl.
The parking brake did not engage when depressed all the way to the floor.the owner has contacted the manufacturer and the dealership and they stated there was nothing wrong.the owner received a second opinion and was told that the positioning of the parking brake was defective. Provide further details.
Dt*:the contact stated the parking brake failed to pass inspection.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the parking brake was replaced.
During 2004 state vehicle emissions and safety inspection it was determined that the parking brake did not work. As a result vehicle failed inspection and will not pass until issue resolved. When parking brake is pressed, the pedal easily reaches the floor and does not hold vehicle.gmc customer assistance notified 01/25/05. Not sure on resolution.dealer wants to replace entire rear brake assembly, quote high cost for work, not covered under extended warranty, dealer blaming on normal wear and tear.inspection place commented on similar issues with all other gmc yukon 2002 model.
Parking brake failure. Parking brake no longer holds vehicle in place. Dealer claims linings wore prematurely. Parts were not in stock, so waiting for repair. Very similar to parking brake recall on 2001 gmc sierra pickup recall #05v161000.

Several occurrences with vehicle's transmission. Nar 07/28/2003*mrdealer notified.
During acceleration, transmission lurch and slip occurred causing engine to over-rev resulting in the loss of third gear, forth gear, and reverse.cause was a mechanical failure inside transmission @ only 46k miles.transmission re-build was necessary.
Knocking noise is heard coming from the front of the vehicle and is felt as a "clunk" through the steering wheel. Happens when parallel parking....tight, slow turns in reverse.feels like gears in the differential are sticking and lurching.it has been happening on and off for a long time.
Four wheel drive makes grinding noise during turns.manufacturer advised me that this is normal.
Gmc 2002, yukon: the reaction sunshell broken inside of transmission.only 64,000 miles.1) no event leading to failure: called gmc peterson in gurnee illinois, gmc knows of this problem and in fact changed the design of the sunshell yet will not recover my cost.i now live in minnesota and gmc here is doing the transmission fix.2)failure and consequences: could be extremely serious if driving on a busy highway.loss of power and acceleration could cause an accident.3)correct failure: gmc is doing nothing to correct this failure that i know of.customers are being told that this is a rare occurrence.however, after talking with gurnee peterson gmc illinois and valley gmc from waconia minnesota, this repair is not uncommon and is occurring every couple of months.i feel this warrants a corrective action.
While driving my 2002 yukon xl, there is yellow light appeared on the i/p cluster message center. "service 4wd" and when gently apply/pressing on the brake pedal, the is some kind of loud mechanism noise in the front wheel driver side, and prevent the brake pedal from coming down. Three times that i almost rear end other vehicles.took the vehicle to the dealership to get itfixed, the cost was $2212.93 for fixing brake system failure includinganti brake system and 4wheel drive. Dealer recommended to a report to nhtsa.
(1) none (2) pulled out on hwy at normal speed, loud wining, and loud pop.transmission failed, left with only 2nd and 3rd gear.(3) called transmission shop and they described in detail the flaw that caused failure. They informed me that this was quite common in this model. I feel that this should be reported as a recall, to correct this defect.
On 11/23/04 left for vacation noticed that fluid was leaking about two hours into our trip.stopped at dealership in barstow, where we were told transfer case was heating up and expanding and that it had tiny cracks that the fluid was leaking out of.needed a new transfer case ordered on 11/24 and authorized overnight shipping.called from 11/29 to 12/3 when i was finaly told that part was on nationwide backorder and would not be shipped.my car was not ready until 12/15.i have concerns that this is a wide spread problem since the part was on backorder and that gmc will not reimburse parts and labor or rental car fees.i was also very disappointed in the customer service department.contacted them and was told what info. To send.sent it did not hear from for approximately three weeks then was told that they did not receive all info.left at least 15 messages and never received phone call back called and asked to speak to supervisor and first was told no then finally found a representative that gave me supervisor.i resent paperwork that was supossedly missing and was told about a week and a half later that they would give me credit toward a new purchase or oil changes for the equivelant of 1 year.
The antilock brake sensors are malfunctioning and causing extended stopping distances that could lead to an accident.the original recall was completed in 2006, according to gmc they only cleaned the parts and did not replace them.as a result there is severe corrosion on the antilock brake sensor causing increased stopping distances that could cause an accident.
Stepped on brake pedal and brakes failed to stop vehicle. Inspected vehicle and noticed rusted brake lines failed.i am the original owner of this vehicle.
Two years ago i had a sever accident that cause me to hit another car and spin around. The gmc dealer said the cause was rusted out brake lines. Today it happened, but i was luck enough to be just pulling into my parking spot when it happened. The brake line must have rusted out again because i pumped the brake and noticed it coming out of the left rear line. This is very dangerous because it will likely only happen when you are in an emergency situation. There is no pre warning. It will just happen. Perhaps they are making the brake lines out of thinner material because we have many vehicles much older, and never had this problem.
While turning into a mall parking lot from a main street, applied brakes to slow down into the parking lot for a vehicle to pass in front of me. Without any prior warning the breakpeddle went to the floor and i was unable to stop even from a slow speed. Luckly i was able to drive around the vehicle in front of me because the breaks seemed to fail about 95%. I pumped the breaks a few time and got into the closest parking space. The vehiclewas not safe to drive do to sudden break failure. The repair garage certified mechanic said the break line had rusted thru and the break fluid was rapidly leaking. I had the garage replace all the entire rusted break lines ($646.00) to be able to drive safely and avoid another sudden break failure due to rusted break lines. Otherwise the car has been well taken care for and in excellent running condition. My mechanic said they had repaired several gmc vehicles with this identical problem. I believe gmc has sold a car with defective safety parts which have worn prematurely.
As vehicle comes to a slow stop the brakes feel as if the release and still roll also when pulling into a driveway or parking spot this has happed often.
During low speed the abs kicks in on no slip conditions causing it to take longer to stop the vehicle. This started occurring in june 2014.i see a recall on 2002 yukon xl vehicles for this problem but it does not show up on the vin report.
I drove approx.30 miles to my destination without any trouble. I spent about 2 hours there then started my 2002 yukon xl to head back home. Upon moving the vehicle i realized i had very limited breaking power. The brake pedal went right to the floor. I dread thinking about what could have happened if i was on the interstate heading home. My mechanic said the brake line failed causingthe rear brakes to lose all stopping power. He said he has seen several cases of this same problem on early 2000's gmc trucks and suv's. I researched this issue and found many of the same complaints online. Gmc should stand behind this and pay to repair this obviously defective part replacement.this will be an $800 repair for me and a big disappointment in gmc if they don't stand behind their vehicles.
We purchased the 2002 yukon from mcguire dealership in nj its been cared for taken to the dealership faithfully driven by my 50 year old father, when first driving he noticed the pedal vibrating rapidly during normal brake applications. The abs control valve was the culprit along with a rusty wheel sensor. It was replaced at the dealer and after 5 years the frame of the truck is rusting and rotting along with suspension parts and most of all the brakes. We came close to crashing one day when the pedal went straight to the floor, we take it to the local firestone and they tell us all the brake lines are rusted out along with the master cylinder. We replaced the lines and master cylinder with a hefty price tag. We get the car back 3 days later pedal goes to the floor again, back at the mechanic both rear calipers are rusted and leaking. We replaced all 4 calipers and the problem stopped but now the frame is rusting and the abs is still vibrating badly. Long story short gm needs to be held accountable for selling such cheap crappy trucks, we came close a few times to crashing, and i feel sorry for the people that have lost their lives due to the negligence of the employees of gm.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl. The contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle jumped and hesitated without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wheel speed sensor was corroded and needed to be replaced. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided case number 8-3140697651. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
On 8-26-07 while driving home the abs light came on. Checked vehicle manual. After turning off the vehicle we could hear what sounded like a motor or fan noise running. Thinking it was probably the ac fan we went in the house for the evening. The next morning we could still hear the noise and found out my battery was dead. Jump started vehicle and took it in to mechanic to do a diagnostic search and was told we needed to replace abs control module. After researching on the internet found out there had been several recalls for this, but not with my vin #. Have called gm corp to report this and am currently waiting to hear back.
I have a 2002 gmc yukon xl.i bought the vehicle brand new in june of 2002.at 376 miles my brake system locked up.i have continued to have this problem ever since.as your driving the brakes apply and you loose control of your steering.this problem does not occur all the time, but does happen.they have replaced my master cylinder, power booster, and all 4 rotors.this problem is still not fixed and because the dealership can not get it to duplicate the problem while they are driving it, they say there is nothing else they can do.i am filing this complaint because i fear for my safety.the last time it happened on 9/11/03 it was towed to the nearest dealership, they have informed me there is nothing they can do.i have left the vehicle there because i fear driving it. Last thing i heard was they were shipping it to the dealership where i bought it because it was there problem.please if you know anything i can do please let me know.i would like to add that there has been evidence of defect because the rotors have shown damage due to defect.
Have had problems with brakes. They do not stop properly, you never know when they are going to work or not.my wife has on different occasions on the freeway applied the brakes quickly and the pedal went down to the floor, thank god there was an emergency lane where she swerved out to. It has also happened to me.we are told that you do not pump the brakes on an abs braking system, well my wife came home and told me by pumping the pedal the brakes seem to stop a little better.now what do you think that is telling you???i have been in the automotive business for over 40 years, and have never had a problem like this. They have yet to fix the problem because they say there is nothing wrong, and since the vehicle did not come in on a hook and or was not in a accident they would not do anything.we have been complaining about the brakes since we purchased the vehicle.at this point i will never purchase another gmc again, and i am letting everyone know this.hope you can help or have some suggestions. Thank you for your time in this matter.manny.
The brakes on my car are not working properly.it is happening more and more every day.i almost ran into my garage.when i am pulling up. About to make a stop. The brakes go out.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl. The contact stated that while approaching an intersection, the abs warning light illuminated and the vehicle vibrated as the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle did not stop when the brakes were applied and was in the intersection before it finally stopped. The braking issues persisted as the vehicle was continuously driven. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the electronic brake control module had failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current and failure mileage was 156,000.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) because her vehicle is experiencing the same issues.the abs indicator illuminates and makes a loud noise when driving and when the vehicle is stopped.the abs activation also makes stopping the vehicle very difficult.the dealer advised the contact to defuse the fuse where the abs indicator is located in order to stop the noise while the engine is running.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the repair would cost $1,100.the contact called the manufacturer and they instructed the dealer to repair the vehicle at 50% of the cost; however, the dealer refused.the failure mileage was 80,000.
Abs problem on a 2002 gmc yukon xl.low speed abs coming on every time brake pedal is used under 15 mph.gmc recalled problem but only in eastern states, i live in utah which is not covered in recall.

Consumer's vehicle followed a school bus, no children were onthe bus.around 7:50 am the bus stopped for red light.speed was approximately 20-25 mph.as the brake pedal was pushed down the vehicle began to slow down, but it did not slow as quickly as normal.the abs engaged, but the vehicle continued to proceed forward.there was plenty of room and time that the vehicle should have stoppedbut it did not.the vehicle bumped the rear of the bus, pushing in the bumper of vehicle.this incident followed the pattern set forth innhtsa recall 05v379000 onaugust 29 2005.however, on november 18, 2005 thelocal dealer performed the procedure that gmc recommended to correct this problem, but i feel that the vehicle still failed in this incident.
2002 yukon w/abs light on and some kind of motor running even if my vehicle is off. The next morning my battery was dead. I took it to a dealership who told me that i needed a new abs module/pump and it would cost between $950 to $1,200 to fix. They disconnected the motor to keep from running and draining my battery. I have not had any problems with my brakes, they are fine. Brakes were inspected and passed inspection. Called gmc recall line and was told there was no recall for 2002 yukons in texas.
Abs light came on; drove a few days after that.while driving at approximately 7 miles per hour, i tried to stop for a light and nearly hit car in front of me.brakes rumbled to a halt, fortunately.took car to brake check, had to have bolts on hub bearing replaced.contacted gmc to help share in cost of repair, as there has been a recall (2002 gmc yukon recall id from nhtsa: 05v379000 ) in certain "salt belt states", due to corrosion.they refused any assistancebecause 1) car is out of warranty (i have 82,000 miles on it),2)i didn't take it to a gm dealer, and 3)there hasn't been a recall issued specifically for my car!
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl.while driving 5 mph or less, the abs engaged without warning and caused the vehicle to jerk.the road conditions were clear.the abs was repaired under recall number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock), however, the failure continued to occur.the dealer stated that they would be unable to repair the vehicle as part of the recall because it only covered cleaning the sensors.the current mileage was 104,807 and failure mileage was 77,000.updated11/27/07.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc yukon xl.when the brake pedal was depressed, the contact experienced unwanted antilock brake activation.as a result, the vehicle lunges forward before coming to a complete stop.the dealer replaced the antilock speed sensor and the front hub assembly at the cost of $600.the failure mileage was 62,500 and current mileage was 63,630.updated 11/14/08. *ljupdated 11/18/08.
Dt*: the contact stated in november when the vehicle was taken to the dealership for routine service, the dealership noticed the rear rotors were hitting the inside of the backing plates inside the hub. Also, the rotors were rusted.the front end was also observed to be shaking. The dealership determined the shaking was normal 4x4 characteristics; however the dealership installed a lube kit that goes on the steering column underneath the hood.the shaking returned and the dealership informed the contact the lube kit was no longer a remedy for this shaking problem. There was notanother remedy offered.
The brake line (a metal rod, nothose) broke off, on an ice mountain road on december 23, 2002. The car was brand new with 9800 miles on it and there my three children ages 3, 3, and 5 were in the car.we were towed down the mountain for 60 miles.general motors fixed the brake line and took over two months to get back to mewith a $55.00 reimbursement for the car rental.this could have been catastrophic for my family.the car could not stop at all.*nlm
Purchased a new 2002 gmc yukon xl, at about 6800 miles the steering developed a rattle, dealer under warranty regreased the steering shaft, this helped for a about a year and it started again. Dealer re-greased with what they said was a new grease that should solve the rattle problem.it has started the rattle again and only has 38000 miles. I understand there is a redesigned steering shaft that solves this rattle problem.here is the bulletin to solve the poor shaft design, should be a recall but looks like gm is only replacing on a case by case issue waiting for your warranty to be out, at which time they charge you for the poor design steering shaft.gmc tech bulletin 00-02-35-003m (latest revision)subject: clunking noise under hood and can be felt in steering wheel and/or steering column (replace upper intermediate steering shaft (i-shaft) assembly) #00-02-35-003m - (01/31/2007) models: 2002-2006 cadillac escalade models 1999-2007 chevrolet silverado models (classic) 2000-2006 chevrolet suburban, tahoe models 2002-2006 chevrolet avalanche 1999-2007 gmc sierra models (classic) 2000-2006 gmc yukon, yukon xl models 2003-2006 hummer h2 .

The service dealer stated there was a tow out problem with the vehicle.the tires wore out every 5,000 miles.please provide details.
On 07/14/03 at 22602 miles, we took our 2002 yukon xl (regency edition) to suss pontiac in denver, colorado, to investigate a clunking/knocking sound coming from the suspension when turning which caused the steering wheel to vibrate. On occasion, the steering wheel had excessive play in the wheel and would hesitate when turning.suss pontiac verified the complaint and found the "intermediate steering shaft" dry and clunking.the shaft was then lubed as per bulletin #ii-00-02-35-003b and we were told at the time that the problem should not reoccur.the problem recurred during the fall of 2005 while vacationing in texas.after discussing the incident over the phone we were told that it was not a safety concern, more of an irritation to those inside the vehicle and we should have no problem getting home.we made it back to denver without incident, but very annoying.on 10/25/05, the vehicle was taken to a different dealership (len lyall of aurora, co) only to learn that a new bulletin (# unkwn) had been issued requiring that the "intermediate steering shaft" be replaced.len lyall then pulled a vehicle service inquiry listing all services performed on the vehicle.however, it was noted in the summary that the shaft had been replaced, but my copy of the invoice referred to the shaft being lubed.i am now troubled by the fact that gmc found it necessary to replace the shaft and still telling me that it is not a safety concern.i would think that anything having to do with the essential component (brakes, steering, tires, etc) is a life safety issue.does it take someone to be seriously injured or die toinstitute a mandatory recall?

We are now replacing the bushing in the steering column for the second time with less than 42,000 miles. This component was replaced originally at 28,000 miles and has failed again. With this failure has caused left wheel bearing to go out. At 58,000 mile the right wheel bearing is now in need of repair, should have gotten the extended warranty, none of this is covered after 36,000 miles. Also, the rear air will either blow cold until the thermastat is change to the red setting completely. When taken in with the initial failure of the steering column, i was told that the setting worked fine but would be noted incase of later failure so it might be covered under warranty.
While backing out of the driveway power steeringfailed. Driver was unable to turn the steering wheel left/right without excessive force. Owner contacted the dealer and the manufacturer, and was informed that the vehicle was 5,000 miles passed the warranty. However, the driver was given an owner's loyalty certificate, which could be used for future purchases.

Owner complained about a steering shaft problem. The power steering becamevery difficult when driving. Owner took the vehicle to a service shop prior to receivinga recallnotice for this defect.
Dt: the steering is having a knocking sound whenturning, and it is difficult to even turn the steering wheel. This has been a problem for 6 months. Owner tookcar to the dealership, and was informed a technical bulletin #000235003gstated that steering shaft needed to be replaced. However, owner's vehicle was not included in the repair from gm. This has been such a broad problem that there was a waiting list to get the part. Consumer thought that there should be a recall. The carcould not be driven , and the car has been parked due to the fear of safety issues for the owner and her children. The owner talked to gm, and they said that there was no help for consumer, and she did not qualify for assistance unless there was a recall. Owner took car to her mechanic for a temporary fix. General motorsissued temporary fix kit soconsumerscould continue to drive the vehicle until they could get theparts manufactured to fix the problem because there was a waiting list.

Back window hinge, passenger side, 02 yukon xl, separated from window/broke. No rough use, just snapped when i opened it.
2002 gmc yukon xl rear tailgate glass failed/broken hinge due to poor design. This results in the rear glass held on by one hinge instead of two. Rear glass does not close properly and is at risk to detach from vehicle.many owners of this vehicle (and sister vehicles tahoe and suburban) have experienced this defect.gm fails to acknowledge or assume responsibility.

After owning my 2002 gmc yukon xl, i noticed uneven tired tread wear at about the 5000 mile mark.when my vehicle was taken into the carriage motors company service department for my vehicle's 7500 service, i mentioned my concern for manner in which my tires were wearing.both the front and back tires had the same tire wear since they had been rotated at 5000 miles.the tread wears unevenly on the inside of both the front tires, causing excessive tire noise from inside the cabin and more importantly, the vehicle pulls from side to side.most noteably right after the tires are rotated.i have since complained on numerous occassions to carriage motors and each time was given the response that it is normal tire wear for a gmc yukon.second opinions were sought from different tire dealerships in the temecula area, with all stating that it is not normal.my concern is for my wife and three children, as my spouse is the primary driver of this vehicle.the vehilce handles very poorly on the freeway and most recently, having received some rain in our local area, i was alarmed at how poorly the vehilcle handled on the wet roads.a local tire company in my area stated that my tires on not contacting properly with the road, which results in poor handling.in addition, the carriage motor company stated the reason for the manner in which the tires wear for "yukons" was the design by gmc in an attempt to make a smoother ride for this vehicle.i am seeking the nhtsaassistance in this matter as i have exhausted all efforts with the carriage motors and gmc customer assistance.if your agency is unable to assist me please direct me to the appropriate agency that will provide assistance in this matter.dt
Spare tire carrier winch cable failed on 2002 gmc yukon xl at highway speed.the spare tire collided with the auto following me causing extensive damage.
My 2002 gmc yukon xl does not have an alarm for *open* driver/passenger door (it only has a rear "cargo door open" indicator).you can actually drive with the driver/passenger slightly ajar (you hear wind) or opened, *without* any notification or alarm.gmc customer service (800 #) & fremont gmc position that this is by design.i believe it is a safety flaw that requires government intervention to correct.a safety recall is warranted. *nlm

Front heater only operates at full temperature setting 82 degrees.otherwise, the heater is blowing cold air, about the outside air temperature. The only way to regulate inside temperature is to set at 82 degrees, then turn system off until the cabin is cold, then turn heater back on, etc.this needs to be done every few minutes, causing constant driver distraction. Dealer is advising gm tech center is stating the system is operating as designed.dt

I am the original owner of a 2002 yukon xl truck.i purchased the truck two years ago from a gmc dealer in macon ga.i noticed the steering column felt loose and made unusual noise when going over bumps and when turning.i took the truck into a local dealer under a warranty call.the service department repaired/adjusted the steering system and the vehicle drove fine for approximately 6 months.however the same noise came back and the trucks anti lock brake light and traction assistance lights came on.i took the truck to a repair shop to have it looked.the shops owner discovered one of the front hub assemblies had failed and needed to be replaced.the owner told me the hubs bearings had completely failed and there was a strong possibility the wheel could have separated from the vehicle.this truck is 2 years old and only has 50,000 miles on it.
