While the consumer was driving brakes failed, resulting in rear end collision in which airbags did not deploy.

Attorney is writing on behalf of clients, while driving 40mph in rainy and foggy weather, vehicle ran off the road hitting an embankment with the front of the vehicle and the air bags did not deploy.driver's face struck steering wheel sustaining facial injuries.inspection of vehicle found that a coil in the steering column was not connected which was the cause of the airbag not deploying. Photos attached.

While driving straight on the highway at about 70 miles/hr, both right and left side impact airbags deployed simultaneously and spontaneously.gmc yukon xl 2000.

Purchased used yukon xl on 10.17,02, on jan 6,2003 computer module had to be replaced, chevy dealer wanted to replace it for $800 plus labor, after negotiations the final price was $465, i have an extended warranty which of course doesn't cover the computer module....in two years the module needed replacement? the computer module is the major part, i don't like this truck, i was stuck and even received a ticket because it was on a sunday night and couldn't get it towed until monday morning.....i thought this would be a dependable car, was i mistaken or what......ts

The horn was inoperative. Every time the horn was used, it blew a fuse.

The contact owns a 2000 gmc yukon xl. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle made a sputtering noise and stalled. The contact then stated that the anti-lock brake and check engine indicators illuminated. The contact's boyfriend called smith buick gmc at 321-405-3488 (510 e nasa blvd, melbourne, fl 32901), but the call was disconnected. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

I was driving my yukon xl 2000when all of sudden the car lost power steering.i looked up the problem on web and found out that there was a odi nhtsa campaign id number 05v005000 that addressed this problem.when i called gm they indicated that the car vin was not in the range for the recall.when i took the car to gm to get it fixed they indicated that failure was exactly what was described in the report 05v005000.i was lucky that i was driving the car and not my wife.i had my 13 month son in the car and this failure could of caused an accident.i did hurt my neck when this problem occurred trying to control and steer the car.for the sake of other families driving 2000 yukons this recall 05v005000 should be broaden to include more yulon 2000 cars that were produced in that year before somebody else gets hurt.

Dt*:the contact stated while having recall work completed under recall 05v155000 concerning the fuel system, the evaporative emission hose was broken by the dealership.no repairs were made because the broken part is no longer being manufactured.however, the vehicle is now emitting fumes inside the contact's garage where the vehicle is being stored.the consumer stated the check engine light is on.updated 02/28/06.

My gmc yukon xl has braking and fuel system problems, i have had 1 accident because of the yukons brakesdeactivating while hitting a small bump on the street while trying to avoid the accident. I have contacted gmc and all they said is they would offer me a 1,000 rebate on the next purchase of another vehicle, although they advertised this defective product on ("cnn") along with the other defects. There has been other hidden recalls on this vehicle and the manufacturer did not properly tell or notify me.

Dt*:the contact stated the fuel gauge readings were inaccurate.the dealer replaced the fuel pump which corrected the problem.there is a nhtsa recall # 05v155000, concerning the fuel pump.the vin was not included in the recall. Updated 8/14/2006 -the fuel pump wiring melted inside the fuel tank.

I own a 2000 gmc yukon xl.over the past few months, i have had a problem with the vehicle continually blowing a fuse (ecm b fuse).upon my own research into the circuitry, i determined the likely problem was the fuel pump.i replaced the fuel pump and upon removing and inspecting the old component, i discovered the hot wire (gray wire) which operates the pump motor had been hot enough to melt the insulation off the wire.moreover, this hot wire had melted into one of the wires of the fuel level sending unit, which is a ground circuit.the problem i would like to bring to light here is that the fuel pump unit is inside the fuel tank.when this hot wire came into contact with the other wire, i assume there was a spark, or the potential for one.why didn't my vehicle explode?i know there are thousands of these vehicles on the road, but i have not heard of any such explosions.i do know of another gm vehicle that had the same problem of exposed wires in the fuel tank. Please advise me of the danger level should this happen again. Thank you.*nlm

Fuel pump is whistling and fuel leak is apparent when parked overnight in garage. Already replaced one pump at 96,000 miles. Already had service on the melted wires 2 years ago. Can gm provide the cost of the gm brand fuel pump so it can be replaced?

Our gas gauge on our 2000 gmc yukon completely quit working.took it in thinking it was an electrical problem and found out the fuel pump was broken.the problem that cost us a lot of money was that the fuel pump is located inside the gas tank and they had to replace the whole gas tank to fix the problem.first, why would this happen on a car this new with only around 50,000 miles and second, why put the fuel pump inside the gas tank so that it is so expensive to fix?

The vehicle stalled. Thedealer diagnosed the problem as bad bare wires inside of fuel pump.the wires shorted which caused vehicle to stall.

Dt*:the contact stated the engine stalls at various speeds without warning.the vehicle has not been inspected by a mechanic.a nhtsa recall, #05v155000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the fuel pump however, the recall did not remedy the problem. The dealership would not offer a second repair without charge under the recall.

Noticed on several occasions that vehicle seemed to be leaking fuel when parked and turned off.most recent case occurred shortly after refueling.dealer diagnosed as a "cracked fuel sending unit".apparently this allows fuel to be spewed out of the tank when parked.dealer indicated that it wasn't covered by warranty due to mileage.co-worker discussed almost identical problem with his yukon xl (except his spewed more fuel into his garage and need to be cleaned-up by hazmat team).this appears to be more than a random occurrence of a problem that has significant safety and environmental implications.i believe further investigation (by the nhtsa and general motors) is warranted. *nlm

The vehicle would stall without warning.typically, the stall would occur while the vehicle was cold, or during turns at intersections-going from one roadway to another.dealers response has been a "dirty throttle body,"code j5485

My youkon would not start intermittently.i had it towed to courtesy chevrolet and they gave me an estimate for $1500 to replace the fuel tank and pump module.i could not believe a truck only 4 years old already needed a new fuel tank.so i searched the nhtsa database for similar complaints, and found that other people are having the same issue except it is being caused by shorted pump wires in the gas tank.i was able to drive the truck home and removed the gas tank myself so i could get to the bottom of this.when i removed the pump module from the tank it was just like everyone else had said.the wires were completely melted together.therefore the intermittent issue with the truck not starting was being caused by the wires shorting from time to time inside the gas tank.what is amazing to me is that i am still alive today and my wife and two kids (6 & 8) did not get injured.i believe there is an effort of gm to cover this problem up due to my dealings with gm customer support (or their lack of).reporting this to the nhtsa is just my first step.i will further elevate this to the necessary level to get this problem fixed in all the affected vehicles.i have fully documented this and have taken digital pictures of the pump module shorted wires.if anyone wants to see them email me at [email protected].

All doors unlock when going over railroad tracks, bumpy road or potholes.

Parking brake doesn't work.parking brake pedal goes to the floor with no resistance. *la

Parking brake failure.poor manufacturer design causes expensive repairs to pass inspection and manufacturer will not cover expenses.service bulletins issued regarding poor design and new kits made to replace substandard parts.

Emergency brakes do not engage.i do not normally use the emergency brake, and only noticed this problem after the warranty expired.*nlm

My 2000 yukon xl parking brake wore out pre-maturely, i think this should be a recall item. It is a safety concern for the owner and the public.

Problems with 2001 yukon xl's abs equipment.*mrthe dealer was notified several times about defective emergency brakes, however they fell to fix the problem. The repairs were very expensive.please help in compensating the consumer for defective vehicle. The abs light illuminated, the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and was advised the electronic brake module needed to be replaced

Dt*: the contact stated while driving the vehicle going 65mph a loud racing noise could be heard in the transmission, the gears sounded like they were grinding, the vehicle lost all power. The vehicle was pulled off to the side of the road and was then towed to an independent transmission shop.the transmission was replaced; the vehicle was driven for a period of time when the noises started again.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop once again to have the transmission inspected.upon inspection the transmission was found to be defective.no repairs made at this time.the manufacturer has been alerted.

I pulled a boat with the vehicle (2000 gmc yukon xl 2500) about 275 miles to a lake and put it in the water.took the boat out of the water and started backing it into a space when i heard a strange "pop".then realized that all power assisted braking and steering was gone.had to leave the boat where it was, and was happy the problem didn't occur while on the highway with my family.tested the vehicle to make sure i could steer and stop it under careful circumstances, then drove it directly, slowly, and carefully to the dealer about 50 miles.my own investigation found a recall id number 05v005000:"hydraulic pump driveshaft that can fracture, resulting in immediate loss of hydraulic power steering assist. On certain vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, the same condition can result in loss of power assist for braking after the reserve pressure is depleted."the dealer confirmed this was exactly the problem with my vehicle, but the recall did not cover my vin - [xxx].seemed strange to me that 98000+ other vehicles of the same type from the same year are covered, but mine wasn't.now i see that there are at least two other complaints here with the same circumstances as mine.i think the recall needs to be widened.though i got no initial help from the dealership, i called the gmc recall 800 number and they directed me back to the dealers general manager and said i should have him speak to the gm representative about compensation in my case.i did that, and at least they did cover the cost of the part (about $500), but not the labor of $193 to replace the pump.i asked to keep the old pump and was told that i could, but was not given the pump or an explanation when the vehicle was picked up.the receipt from the dealer seems to indicate a "core return" under parts, so i guess i would have had to pay to keep the old part and not return it.since the repair, the power steering and braking have worked properly, even in towing.updated 07/19/2012 information redacted pursuant t

I have concerns over the drivers seat back in my 2000 gm yukon xl. Every time i slow or stop the seat tips forward. The seat belt is attached to the seat back. I have investigated the source of the problem and have found it to be the gear box driven by the electric seat back motor has play in between the gears. When checking into replacement parts there was a note on the gm computer that replacing this part would correct seat back movement when vehicle stops. I am concerned that it will break loose in the event of a collision forcing me into the steering column or causing loss of control of the vehicle.

Applied pressure to brake pedal and it went to the floor.took the car to a midas muffler garage as it was closest for diagnosis and found that the brake line had rusted away.it had rusted out at the point where it goes over the top of the gas tank.theytold me that they have seen this many times on these cars.

My mechanic advised me that the brake lines are rusted and would cost @ $3000 to replace. Yukon will not pass pa inspection and is dangerous to drive.

While driving vehicle and towing boat depressed brake pedal and it went to the floor.there was no prior warning that brakes were about to fail.used emergency brake to stop vehicle.after getting vehicle to secure location, observed steady stream of brake fluid running onto ground from under drivers side door.apparently rotten brake lines that run from front of vehicle to rear failed.

Multiple brake line rupture/ failure on different occasions.

Driving on two lane road at 35 mph.weather was clear, roads dry, temp 86f.approaching a hill with intersection at bottom of hill, applied brakes and brake pedal had no resistance, nearly to floor with very little braking.brake warning light came on when brakes applied(not before). Used parking brake to stop truck at intersection, barely missing colliding with crossing traffic.was able to get truck to trusted mechanic, who determined every inch of brake line from abs booster to all four wheels badly corroded, like paper.line was perforated over rear axle causing loss of brake fluid, all hydraulic pressure and no braking ability.mechanic is certified master mechanic with over 20 years experience, said has never seen this before even in antique or abandoned vehicles.

The first time the abs ebcu failed we had only owned the car a few years. We figured out something was wrong by the continuous growling buzz under the vehicle. We had to full the fuse to disconnect the unit to prevent it from running down the battery while we tried to learn exactly what was wrong. -----------on the good side, the car runs fine without it. On the bad side, ebcu replacement is a ridiculously expensive repair. Gm charges $1400 for the stupid part, the total was just under $2000 by the time all was done.-----------it would be one thing if the ebcu was some great invention that really improved the human condition. It is not. Not only does it never help, it is actually dangerous.---------- any time you try to stop on bumpy roads the ebcu fights you. Many times i thought i was going to drive into an accident at an intersection because there was a bump and then the stupid abs unit would not let me brake. It forces the brake pedal up and lets the car roll forward when i am frantically trying to stop the car.---------- how many times i have wished i didn't have power brakes at all! ----------the reason i found this website is because now at 130782 the stupid thing has failed again. Now without a warranty, but with the internet, i learned how many other people have experienced the failure of this unit. There are many pages about it among gm car enthusiast groups, and even ebay auctions offering to fix the things! ----------the ebcu is in a tight spot you can only get to with one hand while lying under the vehicle, and a quart of brake fluid drips out on you as you sequentially undo the 5 brake lines that lead to the unit.----------my general opinion about auto design is that whoever approves the final design of some part should have to change one of them at home with tools commonly available to an average citizen!

While applying brakes at very low speed the abs system activates resulting in an increased stopping distance. No warning light goes on. This occurs on a dry surface with no wheel slip. 29,000 miles on vehicle.

My abs brakes activate at low speed and increase the stopping distance.i have not hit anything yet but have had several close calls in parking lots and in traffic.

Dt;when you apply brake pressure do not know if you will stop or not.you heard this was a problem with the sensor.brakes have been replaced along with sensors and you still have the problem.

This relates to the recently announced investingation into the anti-lock brakes on gm light trucks and suvs. Nhtsa action number pe05020i own a 2000 yukon xl.when the vehicle was about 2 1/2 years old, it developed theslow-speed abs activation problem described in your above-described action, resulting in occasional inability to stop properly at stop signs and parking spaces.the frequency of incident increased, until in early 2004, we had an incident where we bumped another vehicle, although with no damage or injuries.we then took it to a local gmc dealership, who repaired it by disassembly, cleaning and reassembly, at our expense, since the warranty period had lapsed.as of now, the problem has not yet reoccurred, however, we believe that since the problem was caused by corrosion, it will reoccur.we would like a permanent fix, as well as perhaps gm to take financial responsibility for the repair already performed.

1. During a family vacation to florida, my braking system started to fail at slow speeds normally between 5 and 10mph. The brake pedal would become stiff and the system would make noise like the abs was being activated. 2. Being a family vehicle, i had the repair done immediately, the technicians in florida were not familiar with my symptom. At first they replaced the master cylinder but this did not solve the problem.3. The crew took two additional days to figure out finally that the front wheel sensors for the abs were corroded (because i live in maine) and they finally replaced the sensors and this alleviated the problem.

Dt:the brake's abs system is malfunctioning. The brakes are not engaging properly at low and high speeds. The brakes have to be pumped a couple of times before you can come to a complete stop. The consumer has had the brakes replaced once. The dealer was the one to replace the brakes. The speeds are between 20-30, high 40-50 when you have to start pumping them. If you hit a bump at low speeds the brakes will push back up instead of down. The consumer has had this problem for 5 years. The dealer was informed that there was a problem on the vehicle. The consumer was in a minor accident because of the brake failure.

I filed a complaint with the nhtsa in 2005 for my anti lock brakes activating every time i slow down to stop. Gmc sent me a recall notice in 2005 and i brought my yukon xl in to fix it . They fixed it ,but now it is doing it again .

Antilock brakes slip at low speads and fail to stop vehicle. Both my wife and i have had incidences in recent weeks where we needed to release the pedal and reset stopping just barely in time before a collision. We plan on bring the car into gmc this week. No indicator is illuminated. Our complaint sounds very much like nhtsa action number pe05020 opened on 4-28-05.

On my 2000 gmc yukon xl, a computer module for the antilock brake system is defective and goes out causing a small electric motor to stay on running the battery down. The fuse for the anti-lock braking system must be removed, thus disabling the anti-lock braking system to keep the battery from dying. This has already happened twice on my vehicle and also to many others with 1999-2002 yukons. Gmc knows of the problem but refuses to correct it.

Contact states:abs on vehicle were coming on while being on dry pavement.this occurred alsoon slippery roads, resulting inextended stopping distance.paid for repairs out of pocket, a new brake sensor was replaced on the vehicle.afterwards no problems with the car.

Abs system fires at low speeds for no reason (dry pavement).vehicle stopping distance appears increased.gm has recall # 04094 for this issue but it is localized to certain areas in canada only.

My anti lock brakes activate at about 5 mph continually . I hit a fence and decided to pull out the anti lock fuse which also disabled my cruise control.

When applying the brakes on my 2000 gmc yukon xl i have experienced engagement of the anti-lock brakes and subsequent increased distance required to stop the vehicle. I have not had any accidents related to this problem. The described problem usually occurs at lower speeds, 25-40mph, and good road conditions (dry pavement). I have recently had maintance work preformed on this vehicle at the gmc dealership wheire i purchased the car.i reported the braking problem to the service managerand asked that the brake and anti-lock brake system be inspected. Prior to visual inspection of the brake system a test drive was completedin an attempt to duplicate the braking problem.i was informed that the "vibration: was due to a problem in the steering column andit did not pose anysafety threat. I explained again that the "vibration" was not felt in the steering wheel but in the brake shoe while applyingthe brakes. The brakes were inspected and reported to have 80% wear on the front brake pads.the rear brake pads had been replaced about 9 months ago and still looked good. There was no reported problem with the anti-lock brakes. I requested tohave the front brake pads replaced at that time.all maintance service with the exception of oil and filter changeshas been done at the dealership where the vehicle was purchased.

Anti-lock brakes start activating at slow speeds.reported to dealer who told me it is a known problem and is expensive to fix.has not caused a crash or injury yet.

Abs sensor went bad in front passenger side wheel bearing assembly.abs would go off on dry roads just before vehicle stopped.sometimes this caused our vehicle to take longer to stop.we had the whole wheel bearing assembly replaced by a non dealer garage to the tune of $382.47.now one year later the problem is back.i think gm has a big problem here and should recall all these.our 2000 gmc yukon xl only has 50,000 miles on it.

Abs sensor falure please push for recall!!!!!!!when braking to a stop ,the vehicle continues to move forward farther than what is normally expected with a vibrating in the brake pedal. Nearly caused a horrible accident!pulled abs fuse untill i can get more info on how to resolve the problem.

While the consumer was driving brakes failed, resulting in rear end collision in which airbags did not deploy.

This porblem is identical to your recall 03v527000. No component stated.

I have your campaign id#05v005000 recall date: 1/5/2005i have 2000 gmc yukon xl, [xxx],[xxx], [xxx],[xxx], [xxx], my power steering cut out on my on 1/19/05 i saw this recall on your website, called gm, they can see this, and since the recalls aren't going out for at least another week or so and my vin# isn't linked to it they can't authorized repair.i drove for a few days without the power steering and then rented a car, i can no longer afford the rental and need my truck fixed.it is presently today(1/25/05) at mcguire pontiac in little falls nj (973-785-2220) and i just gave the go ahead to fix it.i don't really have this $800.00 to do this and gm is doing an escalation report to see if they can speed up things but that will take a few days.i can't wait this long.i don't see why if a 2000 gmc yukon xl is one of the vehicles affected why it is taking so long to approve.i understand i will be due a refund but it is aggravating that i have to put out this money to begin with. Why post this for public viewing if they are honoring it until it is official.should someone be able to attend to this today and contact mcguire that my vehicle is covered under this recall it would be wonderful and a miracle.i don't understand why this is such a problem.[xxx]. *updated 07/24/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The power steering pump failed while driving in the mountains. Fortunately not while on the curvy, side of the mountain roads. The vehicle required towing down the mountain to the nearest gmc dealer. The dealer replaced the pump and charged $200. Much inconveience was incurred, we had to be retrived from the mountains(65 miles), taken to the dealer by others to retrive vehicle, etc. There's a recall(id 05v005000) of 98,221 of this exact model and year for the exact same failure. Gmc claims my vehicle is not covered by this recall and will not reimburse me the $200, which does not include the shuttle cost from the mountains to home and other incidentals.

I spoke with a larry at the nhtsa back in february of this year.faxed him a copy of the bill i had for the power steering in my yukon xl says there was going to be more investigating and this recall for the power steering may be expanded to my truck..the 1500 series but i haven't heard anything.just a funny thing that this is exactly what happened to me the power steering cut out in the middle of a turn, but it doesn't concern the 1500.

I discovered two gaps in the rear seals on the lift gate of my 2000 gmc yukon xl.the gaps are at the bottom corners of the lift gate (right and left sides) and are approximately 1 to 3 inches long and about 1/16" wide.these gaps will allow exhaust gasses to come into the vehicle, or water in the event of a heavy rainstorm. We plan to take the vehicle to the nearest dealer very soon, as we have 35,990 miles on it and we want it fixed under warranty.the seals appear to be inadequate, i.e. Insufficient in size or thickness to adequately seal the bottom corners of the lift gate.this problem was found by inspection by myself, as i was inspecting the vehicle prior to allowing the warranty to expire.fortunately, i was able to see light coming through each corner, before anyone has a problem with the gap in the seals.

Gmc yukon 2000 and above models. Tail gate window installation. Window is attached to vehicle with plastic fasteners which tend to break and cause the window to come separated from the window frame. The window is then attached to the vehicle primarily by the window lock.to my knowledge this has happened to my 2000 yukon xl, to my daughter's 2001 yukon xl and when i took the vehicle to the dealership shop for repair i was told by the shop personnel that they had fixed several like vehicle with the same problem.the replacement window is completely redesigned indicating that the factory has become aware of the problem, but has no called for a recall.this has been appearing for several years. The only way i have to date was to place the incident date as today's date.

The rear passenger side tire blew out while traveling, the consumer wants all firestone tires on the vehicle to be replaced at the manufacturer's cost (wilderness le p265/70r16 iiis).

Multiple brake line rupture/ failure on different occasions.

While traveling on the highway with the cruise control set at 72mph, which had been on and in place for about 20 minutes, i looked down and saw that the car was now going 85 - even though i had not touched the accelerator.i decided that i would hit the brake a little to deactivate the cruise and reset it.after touching the brake, but before i put my foot on the accelerator the car was back up to 80 - 85.i played around with the cruise control switch, hoping to stop the problem.nothing worked in that regard, so i thought i would just get off the highway, turn the car off (which would reset everything), and start over.while traveling to the exit, which was about two miles, i had to keep significant pressure on the brakes to keep the car at an acceptable highway speed.once i pulled off onto the exit ramp, i realized that the car would not stop.i was standing on the brake with both feet to get it slowed down to make the turn off the ramp.since the car would not stop, i tried putting the car into neutral to get the pull off the wheels, at which time the rpms red-lined.i tried all the different gears, which had the same result.i braced myself for the jolt and threw the car into park, no jolt - the rpms went to red-line.at this point i was headed for a gas station and i turned the car off.upon shutting the car off, a huge puff of black smoke came out from under the hood, and everything smelled like burning rubber.a tow truck towed us back to the dealership, where they have been of no help what so ever.

We are affected by the recent recall concerning the wiring harness for the fuel sending unit and are waiting for the new harness parts to arrive.however, about the same time we began having trouble with that, we also began to have problems with a sticking accelerator.after starting and placing the vehicle in gear, the throttle sticks and is obviously a mechanical problem rather than a lubrication issue.once the vehicle begins to roll, the problem goes away.we ahev lived with this for some time and have recently driven two other gmc products (2001 gmc 1500 yukon xl and a 2001 chevy 1500 pickup), they too had the same problem.i am quite certain this is going to become a recall event due to the fact that with the sticking of the accelerator, the vehicle often lurches forward after enough pressure has been exerted.please let me know what the status of this problem is.thank you,don titus817-705-1064

Accelerator throttle sticks and requires excessive force to require the vehicle to move and each time causes vehicle surge.

Approx 6 months ago rear passenger side power window stopped working, recently front passenger side power window does not work....unknown how this happened...i replaced door switch, but it did not correct problem.i also checked fuses.i removed rear door panel and checked wiring,ok/ i tapped window motor and it began to work.shortly after it quit working again.

Power windows in driver and passenger side failed. The motor, regulator, cable, and pulley break down and gets tangled inside and jams up. The entire system needed to be replaced, the driver side went the end of the summer of 2004 and the passenger side went the middle of april. The window does not move

Passenger door window regulator,2000 gmc yukon xl.want to know if there is a problem with this since it seems there is a shortage of this part.and that info comes straight from gm.i have been waiting since april 6th for this part and am told that it will be mid-may sometime when i may actually get it.they said the demand for this part has been great they ran out.i would like an investigation into this matter, why would there be a shortage of this window regulator and a high demand for this if there wasn't a problem.

Weather stripping between driver's front door and rear passenger's door allows water to seep into vehicle. Please provide additional inormation.

First passenger window stopped working, found out it was the window regulator. Have been waiting for the part for months. I have been told by both gm and my auto part store there is a shortage and the auto part store says alot of gm owners have been requesting that part.still waiting and driver window is starting to go.there must be a problem. Please check into.
