2004 gmc yukon xl.gas gauge often reads incorrectly, many times pointing way past full or straight down.the volt meter has begun reading incorrectly, showing in excess of 20 volts when driving and in excess of 16 volts when stopped with the engine off (key on).the speedometer has started to read incorrectly often reading 0-10 mph when traveling at 30-40 mph (gauged by traffic).gm did look at fuel gauge issue 2 years ago, but didn't fix the problem.
We too have had the speedometer acting up.usually around 100km. Some days it works but lately most days it does not work.going to get a new cable for it to see if it will change the problem.
Blower motor resistor failed in the truck..when the car is off motor will run and eventually kill the battery... Made several attempts to fix it but the company no longer make this resistor because of the malfunction... So not years later still can't fix it..can't find the resistor and now i have no air no heat for 3 years now.
Speedometer failure on 2004 yukon xl. Works fine until sudden failure. Some sporadic attempts to work after but speedometer can easily be off by 30-40 mph. This is a very common problem with these gm vehicles and is known by gm. Apparently the stepper motors moving the needles are failing. The speedometer is usually first (like mine) followed by the other gauges in the instrument panel as they are all driven by similar stepper motors. A reasonable expectation is to have the speedometer and other gauges last the life of the vehicle. A failure here and there is understandable but when you have failures at this frequency going on it is obvious that it was under designed. Gm offering to stand behind only if it fails under 70k...most fail shortly thereafter.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc yukon xl 1500.the contact stated that the gauges on the instrument panel displayed inaccurate readings.the dials in the gauges do not move when the vehicle is being driven at any speed.the gmc manufacturer stated that all of the instrument panels in the 2004 models experienced the same failure, and they would not repair the vehicle for free.the dealer stated that the instrument panel failed and would be the contact's responsibility to repair.the failure mileage was 75,000.
Driving when entire instrument panel went black. Off/on at random. Knocking sound started about the same time. Took car in to be checked out. Wastold brake lines were completely rusted, and needed a new transmission. We paid for repair of the instrument panel. Talked to our dealership, holman in cincinnati oh,about breaks. No recall listed. They have never told us the brake lines were rusted. Offered us $150 brake kit to do ourselves (cant do) or they can do it for $1500-2000. Can't afford. It sits in our driveway, epic fail gmc. We bought a honda.
Speedometer gets stuck between 50-60 mph when car is off - fluctuates and can't determine rate of speed when driving.
Our yukon on numerous occasions will just display reduced engine power and speed will decrease rapidly. I have pulled off the road and turned vehicle off removed key waited a few minutes then started the truck and it may run fine or may just continue to have reduced engine power. Between the tow bills and shop fees i have spent more than the truck is worth. We have taken to the shop and spent over 5k for them to state the can not find an issue. They say there are no codes. Then it may or may not run normal for a short period and there is no pattern. It has on numerous occasions just completely shut down and therefore loss of power steering and brakes occurs. Making this very dangerous. The last time it happened i was on the highway traveling at 80 mph. The result could have been deadly. I am not sure why gmc has done nothing to fix this issue. I saw several other blogs with the same issue. I am the original and only owner of this truck and it has been well taken care of. I loved my truck up until these issues started, previous to this the truck had a parasitic draw that after 3 years my brother figured out not gm or any other mechanic. That was the temperature control module for those that may be experiencing this issue. Is there a way to encourage gm to do a recall? i now have a useless truck sitting in my driveway. It is not safe to drive.
Speedometer failed to function, gave inconsistent, incorrect speed.gm dealer reports this as common and acknowledged by gm in this year/model, such that gm extended warranty to 72,000 miles.since this was noticed past 72,000, gm offers to fix, for a substantial fee.not knowing speed, or being misled by the speedometer, is a safety hazard.
The speedometer failed on my 2004 yukon xl. The needle dropped to zero while driving approximately 75 miles per hour.
The speedometer on my 2004 yukon xl has failed.sometimes the dial stays at 0mph no matter my speed, sometimes it reads 120mph no matter the speed, and sometimes it reads 20mph above and below the actual speed limit.gm has identified is as a problem but has not agreed to cover all 2004 models for this repair.this be should be identified for a system wide recall and gm should be required to pay to rectify this safety issue.
Speedometer on 2004 yukon xl shows erratic speeds
Speedometer on 2004 gmc yukon xl froze at 60 mph.at next use speeds registered up to 120 mph.currently still stuck at 60 mph when parked with engine off.
No incident resulting in crashes or injuries. However, failure to information cluster including the speedometer has failed to provide vital information in order to operate the vehicle safely.
Speedometer reads incorrectly and/or erratically. Safety concern due to inability to interpret correct speed.
Speedometer sticks on my 2004 gmc yukon xl, it continues to happen on a daily basis. I have "reset" the speedometer numerous times by turning the ignition key almost to the start position but after @ 10 miles, it will be stuck again.
2004 gmc yukon xl - speedometer does not work.will stay on zero on one day, then peg to 140+ on another.i can maintain speed via tach, but my wife is not familiar with this method.vehicle has 54,000 miles.
I started having problems with the speedometer becoming erratic on my 2004 gmc yukon xl about 2 weeks ago.nothing seems to fix it and it is really a safety issue.as a member of the us military and a firefighter i feel i put my life on the line enough.i have found several web-sites with literally thousands of people with the same problems on many different gm vehicles (mostly trucks and suv's).this should be a recalled item before someone gets hurt and sues gm or is that what it takes for a billion dollar company to get the point.i had this part quoted to me at $480 and don't feel it is my responsibility to pay for defective parts considering all these other peoples problems.updated 10/10/07
The contact owns a 2004 gmc yukon xl 1500. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle began to shake. The engine stalled and lost power. The stability system disabled and reduced engine power warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the engine, waited, and then restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who was unable to duplicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
Gmc yukon xl denali -traction stability problem registers on dash and car bogs down and will not accelerate if you let up on the accelerator it will seem toimprove - took car to mechanic and had wheel sensor replaced did not improve tillrust build up was removed from on the splined hub it has since returned - went on line and other people have expressed similar problems but did not find any answers of dealers being able to correct - could be a potential problem which could cause rear end collisions if someone is following to close in the rear since the vehicle nearly comes to a stop.
When driving whether highway or city streets, the car will without notice slow down to about 15mph.a code of "reduced engine power" is displayed on the dash. The car will not go any faster than 15mph, even with you foot on the gas petal. I have had the car in the shop more times than i can count.they keep replacing different parts thinking that it would fix the problem.almost within a week after being in the shop the same thing happens again without notice.i have noticed that other people are having the same problem.i treasure my kids and i do not want this to happen whenever i am on the freeway going 60 or 70 mph and a semi truck runs into the back of me whenever this happens without any notice. Apparently gmc does not know how to fix this problem.there needs to be a recall on this particular gmc model. Is it gong to take the loss of someone's life before the nhtsa takes a stand on this isssue.i have spent over $2000.00 in repair bills and have the same issue just this past week.i believe that gmc should isssue a recall on this problem and they repair at the their cost.

2004 gmc yukon xl: while driving at normal speeds this vehicle will have a warning light come on that says "reduced engine speed" then it shuts down to 30 mph instantly. There is no time for reaction. This problem occurs intermittently. It has happened over 50 times! a few of the times almost resulted in fatal consequences in high traffic.took the vehicle to the dealer. They said it was the throttle body. Replaced throttle body and the next day had the same issue. Took it back to the dealer, they said it was now the accelerator pedal assembly. Replaced the assembly and two days later had the same problem.contacted gmc by phone and was basically told that there was nothing they could do because my vehicle wasn't on the safety recall list.i really need some advice or help before it costs my wife and four children their lives!
Engine turn it self off while moving, doors lock it self, turn signals will not return after turning, then bright lights come on when selecting turn signals, loud rattling noise underneath the car; not sure what it could be.

At 71,200 miles the speedometer on my yukon xl went out.i called the local gmc dealer regarding issue.i wasadvised that if i had serviced my vehicle with them they could have possibly made an exception.i was given the 1800# to call.after calling the 1800#, i was told they would investigate the matter.in two weeks i was notified that gmc would be unable to help me with this matter because they had already helped me enough with the shaft that had been lubricated several times at no cost to me.i reminded them that this was due to their faulty equipment that had taken time from me taking my vehicle every 3 to 6 months to get oiled. Last week i took my yukon to get an oil change and ask that they oil the shaft again.i was informed they no longer do this because they came up with the part to replace it last year 2007.but because i'm out of warranty they can't do this anymore unless i pay.you would think i would have been notified or it would have been replaced when i took it in in november 2007 for an oil change and get that shaft lubricated. That was another gmc dealer.
Was driving on i-75 when vehicle kept stalling happened 3 times with no warning called gmc and they said there is no reason for it and they could not help. Lost control of vehicle because it totally shut down had no steering and had to jam foot hard on brake pedal to stop vehicle.
When filling gas tank, gas pump keeps clicking off as if the tank is full.although, the filling process has just started.this is the second time the vehicle has received repairs for this issue..

Brake hose in engine compartment developed pinhole leak due to heavy rust. Brake pedal went to the floor. Brake bleeder screws rusted solid- can't bleed lines after repairs.it appears that inferior quality metal brake lines were used that rust easily.this is a very low mileage vehicle.this is a very common problem with these trucks and gm needs to held accountable, and a recall should be issued as very serious crashes may occur.

I was traveling on saturday morning, in my dads 2004 yukon luckily it was early enough not much traffic at the time, it was raining and i was not driving very fast normal speed on the highway is 40 miles per hour on us11because of congestion and traffic lights, i was traveling between 30 and 35 mph because of rain, anyways a light changed and i had time to stop, but the vehicle did not stop the pedal went almost to the floor and the light came on stating brake failure, from that point i slowed down as slow as i could and tried to test the brakes, it would stop, but needed plenty of distance, so i slowed for a turn off, and when i got home, started to brake before entering the driveway so that i would not hit the garage or anything else, in fact i stopped the vehicle at the end of the driveway near the road.
Driver side brake lines were completely rusted through and had to be replaced.gmc dealer charged me $925.33 and had my truck for 4 days.this truck only has 52,000 miles on it.please make this a recall.
Shaft internal to power steering pump broke causing sudden and complete loss of power steering and power brakes.other similar failures were found doing an internet search.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc yukon xl 1500. The contact stated that there was extensive rust and corrosion near the front windshield area and the rear window. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not recommend a solution. The failure mileage was not available.

Vehicle is a 2004 gmc yukon xl1500.while accelerating from a full stop and while driving at low speeds, the abs system engages unexpectedly, and the digital display warning "traction active" is given.the problem was initially random, however it occurs almost every time now.the problem presents a safety concern when other vehicles are around, as the sudden slowing of the vehicle, due to the abs engagement, followed by a lurch forward after the abs releases could cause vehicle collisions.

My speedometer starting going from 0 to 100. Then it was stuck on 40 for a while and now it has been stuck all the way over to the right for over two weeks. There are about 95,000 miles on it so it is not covered under warranty.
I have 4 michelin tires purchased from costco late 2013, type: lt265/75r16, dot m34n 00cx.less than 30k miles on all 4.all 4 tires are heavily cracked all around the sidewalls.i called michelin and they stated there is no recall but i've never had or seen any tires do this before and i'm concerned they could potentially cause me to have an accident, explode, or shred while on the highway.
