Dashboard cracked at passenger air bag. If deployed pieces of plastic will fly thru the passenger compartment and hurt or kill passengers or puncture ai bag rendering it useless

I bought my 2010 yukon denali used from a local used car dealership in birmingham, al.when i purchased the vehicle the dash looked to be fine.early in the summer i began to have cracking right above the instrument panel and quickly soon after noticed a lot of cracking around the airbags.this makes me very nervous if i were to be in an accident; what would happen with the dash pieces?they would become projectiles.after researching the internet it became apparent that this a known issue with several of the gmc family of suvs for about a 5 year period.gm has even changed the design of the replacements due to the cheap workmanship of the original product.this should be recalled as a safety hazard.

Discovered a crack in the dashboard at airbag.car is garaged and parked in covered parking at work.since may, 2 additional cracks have become apparent.

Takata recall:it has been one year since the vehicle was recalled and still gm has no remedy.

Takata recalli cant understand, why the delay? i own a 2010 model for almost eight years i have been driving a potential "car bomb" its either a recall or not

Cracks occurred near my airbags on dash board

The dash panels are cracking around the passenger side airbag and directly in front of the driver.the vehicle is 5 years old and has 86,000 miles and the cracks developed in the last month. Nothing has hit the dash to break it, it just cracked and the cracks are spreading.i am concerned about flying plastic shrapnel of the airbag were to deploy.

Cracked dash.started small and have ended up with a hole over the steering wheel.

My vehicles dashboard is cracked in 2 different locations. I am worried about how this will affect the air bag because it is cracked around the location of the airbag. I am concerned about the safety of myself and my children in the event if, god forbid, we are involved in an accident.

My plastic dash board is badly cracked in multiple spots, this is a safely concern of mine due to the fact that i always have passengers with me, my wife, children, family and friends. I worry that if an airbag deploys the plastic will fly off at a high speed and harm someone worse than the collision impact. Please take this complaint into consideration. Thank you [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*pm

The plastic dash board has cracked.it started out small coming from the passenger side airbag and stretching to the edge of that dash panel.now a second part of the dash has cracked by the driver side over the instrument gauge cluster.the portion of the dash that's cracked by the passenger airbag is my biggest concern as it could break off and cause sharp pieces to hit the passenger in the face of the airbag was deployed.my gmc dealer stated my extended warranty doesn't cover this "cosmetic" issue and therefore i will have to come out of pocket for a portion of the cost. This is unacceptable.i'm the original owner and he vehicle is garaged.there could be no long term damage to the dash other than what it's intended to do which is to be under the windshield.gmc - own this issue and correct the problem please.i'm not likely to be a repeat customer of you can't produce a superior and reliable product -or- be responsible and correct an issue that is clearly a manufacturers defect.

Takata recall"

Takata recall. Airbag(s) recalled in may and no "remedy" 5 months later. My husband died from a defective airbag and i am extremely anxious over continuing to ride in my vehicle for fear i may too die or have serious injury. I want this default fixed asap. It is a daily stress in my life.

Air bag light came on for no reason as stayed on.

Noticed cracks in dashboard. One over the inst. Panel on the drivers side. The other is on the passenger side right up to where the air bag is located.

2010 yukon denali has 87,000 well below the average and two cracks formed. One on the cluster side the other on the passenger side next to the air bag. This could potentially be a safety hazard in the event of a crash the air bag deploying and send parts of the dash out towards the occupants. My vehicle stays in the garage when not in use and also have the sun shade for it.

Takata recall. No parts to fix says gmc folsom, ca dealership..

I purchased a 2010 yukon denali and the dashboard started cracking. It started as a small crack that was barely noticed and is now a large crack across the dash between the air vents. I have since learned that several other consumers are dealing with the same defect in yukon models manufactured since 2010. This is potentially very dangerous if the airbags deploy and the dash comes off in several sharp pieces as shown in the takata recall issue.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 gmc yukon denali. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (gilchrist chevrolet buick gmc dealership tacoma, 6014 s tacoma way, tacoma, wa 98409,(253) 777-3085) where it was informed that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags) but the parts were not available for longer than 3 years. The contact was uncertain as to when the remedy and part may be provided so that the vehicle may be repaired. The manufacturer provided no further disclosure for the remedy and part. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

1. Cracked dashboard - cracked dashboard - dashboard is deteriorating. Numerous cracks. Vehicle is parked in the shade 90% of the time and after 30,000 miles on it. It has never been in any accident. There is a dashboard crack next to the airbag on the dashboard. My concern is with the takata inflators and potential shrapnel produced from the rotting dashboard becoming airborne during an accident. There is a website that shows the majority of these gm dashboards are defective and falling apart beyond cosmetic appearance. What kind of safety testing has been done in relation to cracked dashboards causing injuries? 2. Takata recall - there should be a solution to the takata inflator issue and a recall on gm cracked plastic dashboards. It is past august of 2017 and i have heard nothing regarding the airbag issue solution. (was told by the dealer - oursiman of alexandria, va ) that no soultion is availe for the airbag.i no longer feel safe driving this vehicle.3. Transmission cooler lines - lines have been leaking for years.specifically called out in the warranty coverage as not covered???it's a known issue with all yukon and other vechicles

Dashboard near airbag is cracked and spreading, danger if airbag deployed

As we are driving down the interstate our yukon loses all power, engine turns off, stability control message comes up, tire pressure sensor message comes up. We pulled over to the side of the road and try refiring the engine. It feels like the engine is about to jump out from under the hood. We turn it off and wait about 5 minutes. Start the engine back up after waiting and it drives ok, but engine light is on. This has happened to us twice in two days time.

On a snow and ice covered highway with heavy traffic while traveling at 65 mph, i suddenly got a "reducing engine power" message on the display followed by a "service stability control system" message. As my vehicle quickly lost power, to include power steering and power brakes, i was almost rear ended by another vehicle. After getting to the side of the road and turning the vehicle off then on again, i was able to drive another 2 miles; then this happened again and again a third time before getting to the dealer. I have read reports from other gmc yukon drivers as far back as 2001 who have reported this exact same problem. Unfortunately, gmc has done nothing to address this serious safety issue despite customer complaints. Unaddressed this safety issue is highly likely to cause personal injury or death as a result of a vehicle crash. A recall needs to be initiated immediately!

We have owned the car since sept. 2013. On more than 15 occasions it feels like the transmission does not engage the next gear. When it misses the next gear while driving the rpms shoot way up, nose of the car dips, we decelerate or coast, and occupants get jerked and thrusted forward triggering the seatbelt to harness you in place. This has happened on most of the occasions. At times when i am pulling out of a parking spot in reverse the transmission does not engage.normally when vehicles are put into gear you can feel the car it, not on these instances. I would shift the car in gear but not feel it actually get into gear, press the pedal and watch/feel the rpms increase, and the vehicle does nothing - stays in the same place. Accelerating on a green-light is another situation where the vehicle has missed the next gear.similar to the driving description above, only this is from a dead stop. The car will move forward then try to shift into 2nd gear and miss. Again the nose dives, rpm's shoot way up, we are jolted into our seatbelts. I guess that it's the transmission but i am not a car guy at all, supposedly the 2 dealerships (even longer story) that i took the vehicle to rebuilt it (twice) under warranty. The vehicle has been in the shop at least 4 times for long periods, weeks each time, due to whatever the issue is. Each time they say they have fixed the problem and that they are sorry that they didn't fix it the previous time. It had been a months since it happened last, until 2 weeks ago while on my way to work doing about 10mph exiting a round-a-bout. I only heard about this site today (3/19/15) on the news so i am reporting as soon as i heard. I did get video of some of the problems and showed it the dealers (unimpressed), only problem is they could not get the car to miss gears, jerk, jolt, or nose dive while in their possession to experience it happen.

Driving 40mph in traffic and the engineturned off by itself, no power steering or brakes at this point, i was able to stop the vehicle in traffic and put my hazards on while i tried to figure out what happened.the vehicle was acting as if it was still on and would not restart, i still had power to everything and the dashboard was displaying several error messages. Stabilitrack, traction control and engine reduced power and also the check engine light was on. Vehicle would not restart.after about 5 minutes the vehicle restarted and i was able to drive off, the check engine light stayed on for 2 days.this same exact occurrence has occurred again this time on 4/27. It also happened while parked on 3/1 with the engine running. I am having the vehicle serviced at a gmc dealership in carrollton texas today.

Truck started making metal on metal sound.engine block was cracked and anti-freeze was bleeding into oil.mechanic and dealership agreed new engine was needed.cost - $8,000.truck had 103,000 miles - warranty expired at 100,000.we had been experiencing oil problems since nov. 2014 when we were still under warranty- oil was gunky despite being changed each time. Dealership called gmc and gmc refused to budge on the warranty.i called gm 5 times - initially spoke to someone who said "they would work with me" and kicked it up t o a senior advisor named [xxx] who never returned any of my calls despite other gmc employees sending her "urgent" emails to call me.we eventually decided not to do the repair and purchased an audi q7 because we needed a vehicle and couldn't wait for [xxx].we had purchased 4 gmc vehicles (corvette, 2 suburbans, and the yukon).will never buy another gmc product again based upon their complete disregard for us.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2010 gmc yukon denali. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the valve lifters were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 142,743.

Noticed 2 hairline cracks/fracture directly in front of steering wheel on the dashboard. Dash now rattles. Steering wheel issue was resolved under warranty, but not these dashboard cracks. Google search seems to have identified saftey recalls with other models that have these types of cracks on the dashboard, but not with this vin. Unsure whether or not this could be a safety issues or not and dealer was not willing to fix the issue even though it looks to clearly be a defective issue. As of today, i am unable to determine whether this is a potential safety issue or not.

Discovered a crack in the dashboard at airbag.car is garaged and parked in covered parking at work.since may, 2 additional cracks have become apparent.

Front dashboard cracked from passenger left corner of airbag to defrosting vent- about 2.5" long.

I bought a 2010 yukon denali and the dash started cracking all the way to the airbag. It started as one small crack and is now all the way across the dash at the instrument panel. Upon investigating it i found that several thousand others are dealing with the same dangerous defect in yukon and tahoe vehicles dated 2007-2014 models. Gm refuses to acknowledge this or recall this. This could be potentially very dangerous if the airbag is deployed and the dash comes off in several sharp pieces. Also, my door handles are all coming off and the inside door handles chrome is peeling off and cutting my hand. This should be a recall but gm will not help all of us who have this issue. A lawyer is working to make a lawsuit against them but most are afraid that nothing will happen going up against gm who has the time and money to just ignore this until someone is severely hurt. A newly designed dash needs to be made. Others who have got new dashes have had their new dashes crack as well because the same defective dash as the first was re-installed and had the same outcome as the first.

Noticed cracks in dashboard. One over the inst. Panel on the drivers side. The other is on the passenger side right up to where the air bag is located.

Crack appeared near the passenger side airbag dashboard area. Similar tocomplaints by so many other drivers.

Dashboard cracking

I am concerned about my interior dash on my 2010 gmc yukon denali that started a crack at approximately 60,000 miles.it has since cracked in other parts of the dash not connected to the first crack.that initial crack has significantly grown since it originated.my concern is that this crack, now almost a hole, from two crack being next to each other will impede or cause a "missile" hazard should the passenger airbag ever be deployed.if pictures are needed i would be more than happy to provide them.i have read online that this is a common occurrence with gmc cars, or specifiaclly this type of car.

The contact owns a 2010 gmc yukon denali. The contact stated that the dashbord abruptly fractured. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise and noticed that the dashboard fractured on the driver side near the steering wheel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

The vehicle has a cracked dashboard which can be a safety feature for the air bags etc. Gmc knows they have an issue but won't recall it.

Dashboard near airbag is cracked and spreading, danger if airbag deployed

The contact owns a 2010 gmc yukon denali. The contact engaged the automatic trunk mechanism and suddenly the trunk lid closed on his hand which resulted in a minor injury to the hand during the immediate closure. The contact stated there was not an alert safety feature equipped on the vehicle for the trunk closure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

Dashboard cracked. There is a crack all of a sudden on the dash panel above the odometer. Vehicle is garage kept and not exposed to direct sun or extreme cold much at all.

Noticed cracks in dashboard. One over the inst. Panel on the drivers side. The other is on the passenger side right up to where the air bag is located.

Dashboard is cracked badly on drivers side and passenger side.if air bag deploysthe plastic will be shattered and blown across the cab. It will eventually fall apart altogether and make any sudden movement of he car a risky proposition with the dashboard falling into the drivers lap and distracting him from driving. It is a support problem that has allowed normal vibrations due to driving to crack the plastic through fatigue stress.

Vehicle was parked, mild fall weather.found that dashboard just above driver's instrument panel is severely cracked, excessive vibration and noise when operated and potential harm to operator if air bags deploy.

After 3 years i had my dashboard replace due to a crack & rattle which was covered under an extended warranty but still cost me $500.2 years later the replacement dash has cracked and i have yet to replace it due to cost.

The dash board is cracked. This started off as a small crack on the top left corner of the air bag on the dash, it has spread all the way across the dash to the area over my instrument panel and has now sunk in the middle of the dash as if there is absolutely no supports under the middle of the dash to hold it up. I see that there are no recalls on this, but i am worried that if something were to happen and the air bags deployed that pieces of the dash would go everywhere and cut us up even worse than an accident. I also see that there are several complaints on this matter with no avail. I wish that someone could something about this. I do not want to pay for a new dash just to have it do the exact same thing again. Also, the chrome covering on the interior door handles are sticking up and flaking off and have cut my husbands, children and my hands several times. I just found out about this website due to looking to see if there was a possible recall or i sure would've reported this sooner. Is there anything that can be done to help the masses having the same issue with these problems before someone gets seriously hurt?

Got in my vehicle today and cranked it and heard a noise, didn't hear it again, so i backed up and put it in drive and started out of the parking lot, and heard this rattling noise and looked up and my dashboard had cracked and the entire middle section was moving up and down as the vehicle moved.i took it straight to the gmc dealership for them to check, and yes he said it had cracked and it would need to be replaced, cost approximately $800.i have not heard of a dashboard on a car cracking in many years.i thought technologywas to a point that this didn't happen any more.then i see on line there is a problem with the yukon denali's and other gm products that are having the same problem.sounds like a material defect to me.this can cause an accident as it is distracting, you are trying to drive and you hear this squeaking noise and the dash is moving up and down right in front of your eyes.accident waiting to happen.

The dashboard is cracking in several places.this defect started a couple of years ago and keeps getting progressively worse.

Dashboard has cracked & is now starting to break into pieces, causes rattling

Dashboard cracks around instrument cluster and around passenger air bag cover.the cracks appeared after we owned the vehicle for a few years and were not the result of a wreck or abuse of any kind.

Dash board cracked overnight in two places.fine one day, broken the next.right by the airbag area.

The vehicle has a cracked dashboard which can be a safety feature for the air bags etc. Gmc knows they have an issue but won't recall it.

Driving back from a local ski area to home, the dash cracked right in front of my eyes.the temperature was a low of 30 degrees that day and we turned the defroster on to about 69, not liking the car hot.it goes right into the passenger airbag storage which makes me wonder if the dash will explode if the airbag deploys or it could pop the airbag before or during it's use.

Dash cracked over the instrument panel and the passenger side airbag in about five different places

1. Cracked dashboard - cracked dashboard - dashboard is deteriorating. Numerous cracks. Vehicle is parked in the shade 90% of the time and after 30,000 miles on it. It has never been in any accident. Cracked dash, i believe it's a safety issue.if i were involved in an accident i feel it would cause shrapnel to be fly everywhere. Very sharp plastic would fly as any passenger especially if the faulty air bags went off.

Dashboard cracking

Dash has 2 cracks.took it to an upholsterer last year to try to stop the crack and it worked until now.the crack is at the instrument panel.the second crack is at the air bag inset.

Cracked dash.started small and have ended up with a hole over the steering wheel.

The contact owns a 2010 gmc yukon denali. The contact observed that all four rims were peeling. As a result, the rims detached from the wheels and caused air to be released. The contact had to place air in the tires everyday. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
