In mid-april, my airbag service light/notification began coming on intermittently.i contacted the service department at **** auto group to determine if this was a common issue. They indicated this was not a common issue and were concerned an airbag would not properly deploy if i was involved in an accident. I brought the vehicle in for inspection on april 14th and they indicated there was an airbag connector issue under the passenger seat (paperwork indicates driver seat).the advisor said this was a simple repair and the technician fixed it that same day. Over that weekend the airbag service light came on more frequently and stayed on for longer periods of time.i brought the vehicle back to the service department on april 17th.the diagnosis this time was more in depth; the advisor indicated there was an airbag high resistance reading on the driver seat side airbag.he stated that i needed the following parts: wiring harness and driver's side impact airbag inflator, to fix the issue.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While driving 40 mph, the contact swerved to avoid a deer. As a result, she drove off the road into a tall grass area and struck a concealed cable box. The passenger side grill was damaged and there was a small dent on the hood. The air bags did not deploy although the air bag indicator was illuminated. There was a burning odor coming from the vehicle, the flashers activated on its own, and the interior lights failed to shut off. The contact sustained minor bruises on her wrist and soreness from the seat belt retracting. Medical attention was not received. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was able to be restarted and driven home. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was 96,423. *dtconsumer stated both seat belts were locked.

I had this car as a rental. My wife was in the passenger seat and uses a cushion to sit on, because of back problems. We noticed that air bag "on" light was not lit. When she took away the seat cushion the airbag "on" was lit.i don't know if this is a problem, but there was no warning msg anywhere about using a seat cushion. There was no override switch to force the airbag "on" light either and activate the system.

My air bag / seat belt keep light keeps coming on . Code b001b air bag passenger seat anchor pretension deployment loop. This is definitely a safety hazard that should have a recall.

On nov 03, 2017 around 7:45am, my son and i got in the car to drop him off to school when we barely left our house maybe 5 houses away when all sudden the noise service airbag light went on my dashboard. I took some pictures and turn the engine of.

The front passenger airbag activated but did not deploy during a front end crash. There was a puff of smoke and it smelled like the airbag deployed but it did not. The vehicle also showed ā€œservice air bagā€¯ on the information area of the dash display. The hazards came on and would not turn off as well.

The contact owned a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph and making a left turn, another vehicle crashed into the vehicle head on. The frontal air bags did not deploy. The police and fire department were present. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a collision lot. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 27,448.

I have had my vehicle since november of 2016. Shortly after i bought it the check airbag light came on. I took it to the deal since it was still under warranty. They replaced something.this 'fix' only lasted for a little while. The light comes on all the time now. When i took it back to have them look at it they are going to charge me a fee since it is past the warranty. If this would have been fixed correctly the first time. I also don't feel that this should be my responsibility to fix since it is a safety issue.

Menu screen in my 2014 gmc terrain go blank about 5 times now and i am starting to wonder what the issue is. There are other people experiencing the same problem and it is not due to the blutooth or gps redirecting. This also made my car completely shut off at a drive thru.

Key is locking in the ignition. When turning on the car the screen does not display, stays blank. Cannot turn the radio on or off or up. It's happening more and more. It continues while driving. The gear shifter sticks in park and is extremely hard at times to get it in reverse or drive.

My dashboard and radio flicker on and off and majority of the time stays off . My back camera is connected to the radio and my camera works when it feels like it . When im driving the radio and ll the light of the dashboard and radio will just cut off , when im backing up the camera shuts off .

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. Upon attempting to turn off the vehicle, the key became stuck in the ignition. The contact was unable to remove the key. The contact spoke to the dealer (gilland chevrolet gmc 3071 south us hwy 231, ozark, al 36360) where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch was likely at fault for the failure. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

My car completely shut down while turning a corner (powered off).i almost hit a tree because i was unable to turn the steering wheel.oncei applied the brake and put it into park, i was able to restart it with no apparent issue.

Was driving an car cut off an will not start was driving on a city sreet

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While in park, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that an animal chewed through the wiring harness, which was made of soy. The wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired on numerous occasions; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,000. Updated 10/26/16*lj

While driving truck with air conditioner on ignition key gets extremely hot. This does not happen if truck is idling. This has been reported to dealership.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain.the contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, the engine stalled as the reduced engine power and traction control warning lights illuminated.the contact merged to an emergency lane and restarted the vehicle.however, the vehicle failed to accelerate over 30 mph.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that abs system had malfunctioned and a solenoid had not been provided oxygen.the vehicle was then taken to a who stated that there was a cable that had separated from the motor, which needed to be tightened.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,484.

Car stalls when making a right turn. I started my car and tried to turn right and continuously stalled until my car was done turning.

I was driving home after work around 7pm going about 45-50 mph and all of a sudden my car began slowing down and i could not accelerate. This is when i realized that my car had shut off while driving. Also, my headlights turned off which i noticed immediately since it was dark outside, the computer system shut down, gas indicator went to e and the engine turned off. I was able to coast over to the right lane and as the car was slowing down my steering wheel began to lock up. Once i was fully pulled over from the traffic, i braked and put the car into park. I waited a few minutes to catch my breath on what had just happened because this could have caused a bad accident if it were more traffic. Since i was pulled over i thought i would try to restart my car. Before i restarted it, i noticed that my key ignition was still in the on position so i turned it back to take the key out and then immediately placed it back in and turned it to successfully restart the car. This is the first time that this has happened in this car. I've had it since dec. 2013 and have a little over 15k miles. I will be contacting the gmc dealership regarding this issue since i did not see any recalls addressing this issue.

When shifting car from drive to park key will not turn all the way and will not come out ignition. Have to disconnect battery for key to come out. If leave key in ignition dash board lights stays on and battery charge will go down.

Radio stsyem went out, wiped blade motor defective, cam shaft sensors went out due to oil consumption, sensor actuator went out due to oil consumption, car would die while driving because of oil consumption/cam shaft error, engine is consuming to much oil-per engine oil study done by my dealership.

Nothing works anymore. The sound that controls onstar, seatbelt, blinker, turning signal, chime, and other notifications.

My car makes a rubbing noise when and only when you stop. Also my forward collision alert comes on when nothing is in front of me. Sometimes it won't even come on when a car is in front of me.

I was out of town and had gone to the store and when i got back in my vehicle and it would not start. After, letting it sit for 4 hours it finally cranked up. The battery and fuses were fine. No lights came in on my dash as a warning that something was wrong. This has happened to me before. A diagnostic was run and it throwed out no codes.

While driving on a rural road the 'collision warning system' activated with no vehicles in sight either in front of me or in the opposing lane. It happened again approximately 3 miles later. I turned the system off. This has the potential of a disastrous out come if i would have been in heavy traffic.

Wife was driving her vehicle, all service engine lights displayed, car de-accelerated and was able to limp into a business on a 45 mph road.took car to dealership, all service engine lights were on display, service technician acknowledged this.cannot duplicate problem, no problem found in diagnostic testing.

The infotainment system (including back up camera, audio, navigation, temp display, etc.) freezes or the screen goes black. You can not use the audio controls at all. You can still adjust climate controls, but can not see the display. The back up camera has even been stuck on while no longer in reverse and driving forward. Has happened several different times, no indication to the cause.

As i was driving home after work the car just started making a noise and cut of and did not start had to tow to a gmc dealer that said it need a new engine i as driving on the city street

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While driving 30 mph, the horn failed to work. The dealer (penske cadillac of south bay,18600 south hawthorne blvd, torrance, ca 90504) diagnosed that the fuse was blown due to a short. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,885.

While driving my truck power reduce drastically without me braking. The dash shows stabilizer control reducing power.

I was driving my 2014 gmc terrain with approximately 85,000 miles when i normally pressed the brake pedaland the antilock brakes activated unexpectedly.my dashboard told me the stability track needed service. I brought the vehicle to get repaired and they found a speed sensor and it's contact on the hub were bad.cost to replace hub approx $350

My 2014 terrain 2.4 eco tech is using excessive oil consumption. I noticed there has been a recall and class action suit about this. This has also caused my timing chain to need replaced. I was driving to work a couple weeks ago and the engine entering low power modenotification came on. Along with the check engine light. And the stability control light came on.

Driving between 40-45mgh and stabilitrak failure service and abs failure light comes on. At every bump the service lights goes on and off.then on a smooth service the stabilitrak lights comes on until i get home. With the collision warning turned on the car also and almost frequently tends to brake on its own while driving. But here's the real problem this 2014 gmc terrain denali car is not on the 'recall' list - why?seems it's from the same car manufacturer with same issues, shouldn't it be on the same recall list.

Vehicle stops running while driving

Stopped at a light and car just stalled without warning.put the car on park and put my blinkers on. Looked at dashboard and no check engine light on. Turned car off and on then it started to drive but stalled 4 more times after i came to a full stop at a light. Used the fixd app and it detected 1 problem code p0011 intake camshaft position sensor and the test turned the check engine light on and explained that variable valve/camshaft timing in the internal combustion engine control the intake and exhaust gases in and out of the gas combustion chamber.sensor should last as long as your car but can become damaged due to wear and tear but my car only has 93000 hwy miles and is only 4 yrs old.

I was on my way to work.all of a sudden my car stopped abruptly, with no warning lights or signals. Immediately after the car shut off, the engine light came on.the car was towed to gmc.i was contacted on saturday, august 30th, by the service tech for an update.apparently, the spark plug moved out of place, and the piston pushed it into the engine.the technician mentioned that he had never seen any like this before. The vehicle is only 6 years old.there should be no way that somethinglike this could take place and i lose everything and have to purchase an entire new engine.moreover, had ibeen on the interstate when this happened, icould have been killed along with other people as well.in a world of technology, there is no way that this should have happened without any warnings or safety mechanisms in place to prevent the spark plug from moving into the engine.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, oil pressure warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the shoulder of the road, got out the vehicle and discovered the oil flowing out the engine. Aaa was contacted and towed the vehicle to the dealer reichard chevrolet: 575 arlington rd, brookville, oh 45309(937) 833-4011 where it was diagnosed that the engine main seal fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure informed the contact that the extended warranties expired but they would offer $100 certification for repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

Drove my 2014 6 cylinder gmc terrain with engine oil level filled for 4 cylinder before discovery of the dangerous oil level.gmc in detroit was notified in certified letter and local dealer was notified.neither responded in writing as i requested.

The car at 80k had its engine repaired under warranty for a bad deal which then ruined pistons and etc. At 155k it did the same and powered down on the side of the road with engine issues. I was driving on the road when this happened leaving me on a curve and the engine fuming and oil pouring out under neath

Car is experiencing oil consumption at a high rate. I looked into his and i guess is very common. And i guess gm won't do anything about it. What do i do now? do i junk it and take a loss as the motor is now making noise . There has got to be something to do.

Vehicle with only 75,00 miles, runs rough and stalls, went to dealer and they say due to low oil at some point the timing chain has stretched and needs replaced along with sensors and actuators. Timing chain and associated parts replaced to the tune of $1715.00.i check the oil and the dealership has been changing it.this looks to be a factory defect. I have sent a letter to gm for resolution as well.

On line it said that this vehicle was having problems with the timing chain which could break when driving causing damage to motor or worse yet loss of control.i had it to garage and they said the ticking noise is the timing chain.is gmc recalling the vehicles for this?

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, a rattling sound was present coming from the engine. Additionally, the engine oil pressure low warning light was illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware of an oil leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear main engine seal was blown and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer axelrod buick/gmc (6603 broke park rd, palmer oh) and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

My car is burning oil rapidly. It is causing issues to our cars engine. Just had my oil changed 1500 miles ago and had to do it again. Engine is very loud and mechanic says motor needs work done to it at a price of $1500.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine and low oil pressure warning light illuminated. Additionally, there was a message flashing on the instrument panel with a message to turn off the vehicle. The driver pulled over and turned of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rear main seal was blown due to excessive crankcase pressure. There was also a minimal amount of oil in the engine. The mechanic informed the contact of tsb: 14882 and 19na021. Robert brogden buick gmc (1500 e. Santa fe st., olathe, ks 66061 (913)782-1500) was contacted and stated the vin was not under recall. The contact was informed to tow the vehicle to be diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired at an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,298.

Excessive oil consumption- 2014 gmc terrain with 78,000 miles is 'consuming' approximately 1.5-2 quarts of oil with 1500 miles remaining before next oil change is due. This has occurred over the past 3 oil changes and seems to be tied into a 'technical service bulletin' issued to the gm dealerships by general motors.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact stated that oil had to be added between oil changes. The emissions warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to twin city buick gmc (3046 alcoa hwy, alcoa, tn 37701(865) 970-2977) and the camshaft sensor was replaced however, the failure recurred. Additionally, the timing belt malfunction and the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic. The timing belt and camshaft were replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,000.

For the past two months there has been a steady increase in carbon monoxide leak in the cabin of my vehicle. Initially i thought it was something that will go away but for some months now the leak has been growing. I have to drive with my windows down just to be able to breathe in my vehicle. This vehicle have not had an accident or damage. I have kept a clean maintenance record of this vehicle. I am a disabled veteran with tbi and ptsd and the fumes from the carbon monoxide in my vehicle is causing my migraines to intensify. Please help me resolve this issue as soon as possible before i die behind the wheel one day driving in my vehicle. As soon as i turn the vehicle on, the carbon monoxide fills the cabin up.

Timing chain actuators diagnosed problem by dealer . Car hesitating, stalling out while driving.

The engine is burning oil. Losing oil quickly and no leak.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shutoff without warning. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle multiple times before the vehicle would resume normal operation. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer were notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning and the abs indicator remained illuminated. Lance buick gmc in mansfield, massachusetts was made aware of the failure and scheduled a diagnostic appointment. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 16,900.

While driving on the interstate in below freezing weather the low oil pressure light illuminated directing me to stop the vehicle immediately.after waiting 2 hours in freezing temperatures i was able to get vehicle towed to a mechanic and the rear main oil seal had blow out due to a blocked pcv valve.this is a know issue up to 2013 gmc terrains and mine is 2014.pictures from the special coverage bulletin 14882 looks like identical part still used in the 2014.

Driving one day on a beginning winter morning cr had ran perfectly fine and up-to-date on oil changes previously of six months of buying it then car started to automatically shut itself off every two minutes when driving down the road not knowing that the fuel fumes admitted from the engine do not have a large enough outlet causing my main oil seal to burst and blow my intake and there is no guarantee that this will not be fixed after getting repaired due to not being able to modify the original design.

My 2014 terrain stalled out at a stop sign. I restarted the truck and was it made a noise as though something was wrong with a belt. I went around the block and it stalled out 3 more times. I backed it into my driveway and noticed all of the oil on the ground. I had the truck put on a flatbed and towed to the dealer. According to the service department, the rear master seal blew. Somehow, as explained to me, water gets into the engine and freezes. This causes pressure and that is the cause of the damage. My terrain turned 5 yrs old on 11/21/19 with only 50,249 miles. I am very disappointed. I have always owned a gm vehicle and have never had a problem until now. The warranty does not cover since it is 5 yrs old and i am out $3,000 for repairs. I don't even have the truck paid off yet. There has not been a recall or policy/warranty waiver.

My car completely shut down while turning a corner (powered off).i almost hit a tree because i was unable to turn the steering wheel.oncei applied the brake and put it into park, i was able to restart it with no apparent issue.

Was driving on a state highway. Upon taking off from a stoplight, a harsh noise came from the engine, followed by a loss of power and oil. Car was towed to a shop, was told metal shavings are in the pan anf the engine would need replacing

I have a 2014 gmc terrain with 102000 approximately.i received notice that i needed to change my oil.i went about 50 miles and started making a bubbly sound.when i went to get my oil changed, the mechanic said it was so long they couldn't get some on the dip stick.i left the mechanic with 100% of oil and just drove to san antonio and it is down to 98 %. I have a 2008 chevy trailblazer and have never had this problem.

I bought it in june 2020. Used excessive oil. I kept adding oil.i thoughtit was an oil leak and took it in to firestone to get fix. As i was almostthere the engine light came on and was making a loud noise under thehood.first warning of anything was wrong,no other lights showedon dash indicating a problem. I was driving when this happened. Firestonesaid really bad oil leak that damaged timing chain and lower engine. They said i need to replace the engine.why didn't i get any warning lights indicating there was a problem before my engine was damageddue to excessive oil usage. I see this same issue has happened to other owners with this vehicle.i was driving on the highway and couldhave been in an accident.

Engine stalls/ hesitates especially when at a stop, idle for a period such as at a stop light, also when in reverse and does not have a check engine light. This did happen before anda check engine light did appear. I pulled the codes p0010 and p0011.

As i was driving home after work the car just started making a noise and cut of and did not start had to tow to a gmc dealer that said it need a new engine i as driving on the city street

2014 gmc terrain. Consumer writes in regards to engine failure. *ldthe consumer stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil. The consumer was advised the timing chain was not repaired to gm's standard regulations. The manufacturer was notified.

My 2014 gmc terrain has stalled on me 11 times.i cannot make any rhyme or reason out of it. It will stall after a 10 mile drive, it will stall after a 2 miles drive. The stalls seem to happen when i am coming from a stop, like when i stop to put my car in reverse to back into my garage. Or when i stop at a light or stop sign. Each time the car starts again, but rides really roughly. At stop signs and stop lights i feel the car start to tremor, so i put the car in neutral and cross my fingers. I need to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running.this is just unsafe to drive a car like this.this started about 6 weeks ago, and now it happened 3 times this past weekend.

Car is burning oil excessively and the timing chain is loose putting the vehicle is reduced power mode.the timing chain was replaced at 40,000 miles and now it needs to be replaced again and the car only has 87,000 miles.i bought it with 70,000 miles on it. Someone needs to do a recall on these engines

Engine will not hold oil. Causing engine to stall at any given moment while in motion. Vehicle has been diagnosed by dealer and third party auto mechanic. Both have determined piston + piston rings need replaced but a full engine replacement is the preferred repair. Vehicle has less than 119,000 miles. Vehicles notification lights include: check engine light, service stability track and reduced engine power.

Radio stsyem went out, wiped blade motor defective, cam shaft sensors went out due to oil consumption, sensor actuator went out due to oil consumption, car would die while driving because of oil consumption/cam shaft error, engine is consuming to much oil-per engine oil study done by my dealership.

I been changing my oil every 2000 miles however engine oil stays low; several sensor malfunctioned stating that the throttle position sensor, camshaft sensor, and crankshaft sensor was bad but in fact it was the engine. While at the repair shop to replace the camshaft sensor because the vehicle wouldn't start i learned that the engine locked and had to be replaced the engine due to low to no oil in the engine but in fact i got the oil change 2-3 months ago

The engine is burning oil. Losing oil quickly and no leak. Wiper motor shot. 90k miles on vehicle

Left my house on a very cold morning (below 10 degrees) and while i was driving and my engine started making a very loud clattering noise. Low power message displayed on the dash and several lights displayed. Nothing prior to the noise. Immediately pulled in and parked my vehicle. I had the codes ran, checked the oil and it had none! the vehicle was checked out and the pcv valve failed/froze causing combustion in the engine and blew out the rear main seal.according to service bulletin 14882 this was an issue on the 2010-2013 gmc terrains and 2010-2014 chevrolet equinox (which is basically the same thing) a recall was issued. My vehicle is a 2014 (who's to say when the engine was not built in 2013?) and it doesn't appear the issue was fixed on the 2014s which is going to cost me approximately $3000 to fix. When the rear main seal blew (or started leaking) it coated the whole underside of my vehicle which could have cause me to wreck or catch fire. I had to have my vehicle towed since i was several miles from home.

Vehicle will sputter and die when slowing down or stopping. Has happened on freeway and normal driving. Took vehicle in and they let me know the timing chains, phaser and sensors are needed to resolve the issue. The problem is due to the engine burning too much oil. Vehicle will also not pass emissions testing.

Driver had stopped at stop sign on the exit ramp and as she began to accelerate to crossover to appropriate lane the car stalled in the middle of the road, reduced engine light came on, and check stability light lit.this was in a very dangerous location as the side road the driver was located was at the bottom of a hill, so oncoming traffic would not have been able to stop and it would have been a t-bone hit for the driver and head on for the oncoming vehicle.the car slowly (very, very slowly) moved forward enough to finally get across street and to a safe place.although no accidents or injuries occurred, it was by the grace of god that no traffic was coming over the hill.this had the potential and has the potential of being a deadly problem if it occurs again or if another vehicle has the same issue.immediately had tow truck pick up car and take to gmc dealership.i am awaiting the results from the dealership.my work requires a lot of travel and now i do not feel safe in this car with this issue (which after research today seems to happen a lot in gmc vehicles. )

My car engine light comes on and the car keeps cutting off when i stop or when i get ready to drive. I took my car to the mechanic and he is telling me is the camshaft that these cars have alot of complaints for this. My car has less than 52k miles. I don't drive my car a lot. This is horrible that this is happening so soon.

My engine light came on as i was driving on the highway. Felt like there was slight exhaust smell leaking in the cabin because had a headache driving home and driving to dealership.also, noticed black oil or wet soot inside my tailpipe after i parked it and checked it.stanley chevrolet told me that it was a bad timing chain beating against engine causing a gas smell and quoted me over 2 grand to repair.

Plugged pvc orifice in intake manifold. Pvc orifice was plugged due to cold weather and was filled with ice and other sludge. This caused pressure to build and blow the rear crankshaft main bearing seal. This caused the vehicle to lose all oil and subsequently stall. Engine stall occurred while vehicle was being driven and without any warning.

For the last 6 months my vehicle has excessive oil consumption 1/4 to 1/2 quart of oil every week. When it starts up it sounds like a diesel engine. In 2019 it did the same using about a 1/2 quart every 3 weeks. We have kept an eye on it ever since as over time it has increased oil consumption and just recently found out this is a problem for many others as well. We have always kept the oil changed when due per mileage sticker and vehicle oil life indicator.

This car burns 3 quarts of oil between 5000 mile oil change intervals. It has done it since it was new. I just found out it is because of a faulty pcv system.01

Vehicle has 85000 miles and needs new timing chain due to burning oil.quoted $2200-$2800 for repair. Rough riding, wants to stall at lower speeds, slow downs and stops.still owe on this vehicle, bought from dealership not even two years ago.

My gmc terrain makes a clunking noise under the hood when i accelerate and go into a lower gear. Does it mostly going up hills but also even on flat road.

While driving on highway at approximately 70 mph, on low temperature day (~10*f), smoke began emitting from bottom of vehicle with pungent smell. The vehicle was immediately pulled over and shut off. There was oil covering the entire undercarriage. The oil was present substantially on the exhaust system, allowing for potential of fire if vehicle continued driving. The rear main seal was leaking and required to be towed home then to dealer at later date for repair. The repair and associated remedies followed tsb 19-na-021 but were not warrantied as the vehicle's vin did not fall under the associated bulletin's guidelines. All repairs and remedies were identical to previous reported failures of above listed bulletin.

I've took it to car shop and they said it's burning oil. I have to get oil changes every 2500 miles, and it's low after 2 weeks. I've constantly adding oil and check it between oil changes. This is my first gmc and i'm not too happy about this issue i'm having. 104561 mileage and engine light just came on this week. I'm very scare and i can't afford another engine. It's ticking loud and makes noise when i accelerate. I only work less than 5 miles from home and this is just crazy.

2014 gmc terrain with 66,000 miles stalling out when slowing/stopping, low acceleration, loud engine.dealer says oil is low when it was just replaced 2 months (2,700 miles) ago.cannot determine why vehicle is consuming more oil than what gm allows.

Camshaft actuator malfunction causing vechile to shut down -very unsafe. Have been told by dealer this happens to all gmc terrains and once fixed it will happen again - should not have to pay for something that is your problem.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mphand approaching a stop light, the vehicle revved up to 10,000 rpm's as the engine stalled without warning. Theinstrument panel and exterior lights failed. The failure recurred two times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000. Updated 5/19/15

Around 90,000 miles the engine began burning oil. I had to add oil every 2,000 miles. At 101,000 miles radiator failed. At 123,000 miles the engine completely failed. The mechanics at gm dealership could not explain it. They said it appeared that the engine was burning oil. I had to spend $7,000 to replace engine and additional parts that were damaged due to the engine failure. I have seen many reports about the engines for this model and year burning oil with no action or recall from gm. Once more owners hit 100,000 miles, i believe that there will be more reports of this engine issue. Hopefully gm will then respond and issue a recall.

Wife was driving her vehicle, all service engine lights displayed, car de-accelerated and was able to limp into a business on a 45 mph road.took car to dealership, all service engine lights were on display, service technician acknowledged this.cannot duplicate problem, no problem found in diagnostic testing.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, when she started to hear an abnormal noise. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact also stated that while stationary at a traffic light, the vehicle began to stall. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was informed the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired as of yet. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. The vin was not available.

When vehicle is in hot humid climates. Approx 80-100f. It idles weird. It will continuity fight itself. Drops down to 700 rpm then back up to close 100 and repeats. Even worse with eco mode turned on. Bad programming it seems. Sometimes it seems like it almost stalls.

Own 2014 gmc terrain with 56k miles on it, have had the car two years and have had multiple issues. First incident, was driving on highway in rain wipers just shift off. Almost wrecked trying pull off side of the road. Cost $300 for new motor. 2nd issue had to have a sensor replaced because car burned excessive oil in between oil changes, with no indication of low oil. Fried the sensor. 3rd issue, a repeat of the 2nd car would not pick up speed on highway, stabiltrak light came on, engine light came on, speedometer stopped immediately, i checked oil. Wasn't bone dry. Drove it straight home and was in even worse condition reversing into driveway. The oil exploded all over driveway, had it towed to private mechanic. Now i have to put a whole new engine in because gm is negligent with issuing recalls. Oil was leaking from rings all the way out to the exhaust. Faulty oil system and no warning fried my engine. Still owe 15,000$ in the car. This shouldn't ever happen on a car with so low miles and proper upkeep. Glad i'm stuck with 15k on a loan and a car that isn't reliable. Very disappointed.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer ettleson buick gmc (6201 south la grange road, hodgkins, il 60525, (708) 529-5871) where it was diagnosed with needing the pvc valve to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000. *ln

Around 76k miles the vehicle started to stall, the engine completely stopped while in drive. The vehicle was burning oil and had terrible gas milage prior to stalling incidents. The first time it stalled was at an intersection with a traffic light, when we went to slow down the engine completely shut down. My infant daughter was in the car with me and it was terrifying. We would have been hit had the light not been turning red. After that we recognized that it typically stalled after starting the car and attempting to accelerate. At times it happened when pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy street and i would loose engine power. This was extremely scary due to not being able to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. I had to put my flashers on and roll to the side of the road where i could restart the car. The engine ran really loud and rough when the issue first started and even after repairs the engine is still loud when first starting from cold. After time the issue persisted and i noticed that after the first start and stall if i revved the engined hard it did not stall a second or third time. Prior to that there were times the vehicle stalled 2-3 times after first start. The first time i took it to a garage (79k) there was a check engine light on and they diagnosed a sensor that needed to be changed. The problem persisted after the sensor was changed.i contacted another local garage who said there are known engine issues with this make and model and they wouldn't touch it and suggested taking it to the dealer. The dealer said they are familiar with this issue and the engine needed to be rebuilt for $4500. This was quite a shock given the car only had 88k miles on it at the time we contacted the dealer. After the dealer repairs the engine no longer stalls. Recalls on this model only go through 2013. The date on my radio resets to october 13, 2013 when the battery is disconnected so it seems this issue is persisting in models not included in the lawsuit.

3 years old now and still getting around 10mpg and from the first day i got it in 2014 the drive shaft is rusted and was told by the dealer that nothing is wrong with the car.i also notice that when driving at night that the head lights are not made to see street name signs i have to use the high beams to see if i have the right street when looking for the place i have to go.

I just hit 105k on my vehicle and the intake camshaft position timing is causing my suv to shut off while stopped. I was pulled halfway into a major highway when the light turned green i went to take off and the engine died. I tried to see if there was maybe a recall but i did not find one for my vin number. Anyone else's check engine light coming on and throwing this code?

Was driving an car cut off an will not start was driving on a city sreet

I have only had the vehicle since 11/2019.it twice has had the check engine light to come on.the first time it was in 12/2019. The check engine light was on for about a week.the auto start was not working, and the only issue i seen was that if it sat running for a while like for instances, warming up,it flooded and the engine would continue to run a few seconds after ignition key was taken out of the ignition.engine would stop after bubbling to a stop.then the check light went out and everything worked properly. But,on 2/1/2020, my check engine light came on again.my auto start is not working again.as long the check engine light is on, the vehicle will not auto start.the car is again flooding out after engine shut down.after ignition key is taken out of ignition.the engine will run for a few seconds and then bubble to a engine stop. Wonder if other customers has had problems like this too?but, that is not normal for a vehicle to have a check engine like to come on and it interferes with the auto start and cause the vehicle to flood out like it does.

The pcv system there's plugged up dumping oil into the intake and to the throttle body oils in the intake manifold crankcase too much pressure

The contact called on behalf of his daughter who owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving 60 mph, without warning, the rear main seal fractured causing oil to leak from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact, a certified mechanic, inspected the vehicle and noticed the oil leaking from the rear main seal. Tom davis chevrolet buick (2831 n 16th st, parsons, ks 67357, (620) 860-0751) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vin was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

The timing chain broke while i was driving.

Vehicle had stalled one morning in very cold weather, restarted and operated fine without issues for a couple of weeks. A week ago the engine light came on. Didn't drive anywhere that day. Next day tried to take it to my preferred shop but could only travel a short distance to a local shop.diagnostics showed issues with intake camshaft position, fuel pressure performance, idle speed low and fuel pressure regulator.had it towed to the dealer where it was purchased, further inspection showed several broken rocker arms, basically engine damage due to timing chain issue and/or oil consumption issue.vehicle has 147,000 miles and had variable valve timing solenoid replaced at 99,000 miles.had every scheduled oil change never exceeding manufacturer's recommendation of 7,500 miles between oil changes.car is basically dead with little value at this point. General motors refused to assist with this.

During cold temperatures (14 degrees) my pcv valve failed to work while sitting at a read light while i was driving home from work on a city street resulting in my rear main seal blowing.this was an issue on the 2010-2013 gmc terrains and other gm vehicles as noted in the service bulletin 14882.my car is a 2014 and clearly the issue has not been resolved which has cost me nearly $3000 in repairs.luckily i was close to home but this issue could've left me stranded in below freezing temperatures.this issue also caused oil to leak everywhere and could've resulted in a fire.my car was smoking and smelled as though something was burning.

I was driving my terrain yesterday, and went to adjust my heater vent and when i bumped my ignition key, it went into the accessory position, shutting off the engine and power steering

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator. The service engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to several independent mechanics and was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The contact then took the vehicle to the dealer and it was confirmed that the catalytic converter was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that soon after receiving an oil change, the oil warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the pcv valve was clogged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

I am having an issue with the oil is burning and it is causing other components to go bad on my car like the catalytic converter . And it is burning out and i have to continue to put oil in the car... I have research and i see that all these models is having issues with the burning of the oil.

. In october 2019 my car needed to have extensive work done on its timing chains, variable valve timing solenoids, intake variable engine variable timing solenoid, variable valve timing sprocket, heated oxygen sensor, timing cover gasket set, valve cover gasket set, iridium spark plugs, water pump, engine oil filters, synthetic dexos motor oil, coolant. Then in july 2020 the timing chains collapsed on me while i was on my way home from work. The entire engine had to be replaced. My car was completely totaled after the engine collapsed and i was stuck owing 12000 dollars on a useless car.

Driving from work car was working fine. Came to a stop. Car started sounding like a diesel truck. Next stop car stopped all of a sudden. Towed it home then to the shop. Mechanic asked me when i did the last oil change. Oil change was done at dealership 8 weeks ago. Oil had burned completely and caused the engine to fail. I now need to replace completely. $5k on a 6 year old car with 84k miles.

Oil consumption testing began 6/12 a week later check engine light came out. Brought my terrain back to gmc for them to tell me that the timing chain needs to be replaced due to the oil consumption problems. Having several problems since such as jerking, and stalling that i did express to gmc over the past couple weeks, which is due to the excessive oil consumption. Still waiting to hear from the gmc to get my suv fixed almost 40 plus days later

First incident-august 28,2014 accelerating onto highway from store lot, sharp right accelerated and engine died. No power, battery ok. Message "reduced engine power" and "stability track" .towed to garage which replace engine module.forty miles from garage, accelerating on right turn same problem. Engine died (we nearly got hit) and message same , "reduced..." and "stability.." . Towed to garage and waiting for results.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 40 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped operating. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the windshield wiper transmission assembly. Also, while starting the vehicle, a loud noise was present coming from the exhaust. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the exhaust manifold was cracked. The exhaust manifold was replaced and the failure was remedied. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 70,000.

2014 gmc terrain. Low beam lights only lights up what's right in front of her. Consumer scared to drive at night the consumer was unable to see the road, while driving at night. She stated the high beams, were not quite as noticeable.

When using low headlights a dark black shadow impairs vision in the middle of the windshield.

When using low beam head lights, over half of the windshield ( top down) is blacked out, causing a restricted vision.there is a slight increase in vision when vehicle is being driven on an up hill grade.vehicle was taken to thegmc dealership for correction.service manager drove the vehicle home and experienced the reported problem.solution to correct the restricted vision, was to adjust/raise the low beam headlights so they would shine higher to the maximum allowable by state law.this adjustment raised the black out level by a very limited level. Problem still exists.this adjustment now is causing on coming traffic and traffic we are following to think that we are using our high beam lights. Called gmc, their reply was that nothingcould be done to correct the restricted vision. The problem is experienced at all speeds.head light adjustment was not covered under warranty.we now have a restricted use of the vehicle for day time driving only.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While driving at night, the low beam headlamps failed to project far or wide enough ahead to drive safely. The vehicle was taken to shelor motor mile (2257 roanoke st, christiansburg, va 24073, (540) 381-8417) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the headlamps performed as intended. The headlamp bulbs were replaced with brighter bulbs; however, the replacement failed to remedy the issue. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 42,678.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain.the contact stated that while with low beams activated, the upper half of the windshield was totally black. Oil is releasing or leaking somewhere is back flashing while driving andbattery charging system shut down. Underbelly issaturated with oil. I was driving on maryland interstate highway 95 from harford county to baltimore city, marylandwhen i left the interstate onto the 6300 block of eastern avenue where i had to pull over as the vehicle shut down.i had to have the vehicle towed to days auto body at baltimorestreet andcentral avenue in baltimore city, maryland for diagnostic tests and repairs.vehicle was placed on friday,october23, 2020

I'm having issues with my gmc terrain when i start it. It always starts but it's like it keeps trying to start or is having issues getting enough fuel to get it to idle normal. Sometimes it only lasts a second or two and other times i have to push the gas pedal to get it to idle normally.

Earlier this month while driving, our gmc terrain began shuddering while in line at a drive-through.a few days later while driving, it died at a stoplight, and when restarted, immediately displayed a warning that there was reduced power due to an oil issue.we were not due for an oil change.we had the vehicle towed to a body shop who informed us that it was leaking oil drastically and had a leak in the rear main seal.we were told it was due to the cold weather and that we were the third gmc terrain he had seen in 24 hours with the same issue.we had to take it to a larger shop for the repair work, which totalled $2,407.33 to repair.the shop said the pcv system froze and caused the rear main seal to blow out.they also told us there were multiple other gmc terrains with the same issue.i later learned that gmc had to issue a special coverage adjustment for the exact same issue for terrains from 2010-2013.this was the exact same issue.the special coverage notes that "gmc terrain vehicle may experience a frozen pcv system during cold weather operation.this may increase crankcase pressure leading to a rear seal oil leak." the part number they required to be replaced was the same part number we had replaced.

From the first day i got my gmc all i get is 10 mpg and it feels like the dealer is giving me the run a roumd.(getting no help).

The fuel pump nozzle doesn't stay connected to the vehicle during refueling. Fuel spills on the ground or on your person and risk of spark when the pump nozzle hits the ground in a puddle of gas.

Periodically auto will surge forward (without the benefit of gas pedal being depressed.)i managed to stop before there was a crash.dealer states that no problems like this have been reported.i am certain this is a dangerous situation.the dealer has stated that there is no problem with this car.i have to trust that they did something to stop the surging (computer adjustment??)

"takata recall"when refueling the vehicle the pump gas nozzle will not stay in the gas filler hole. It falls out every time either spilling gas on the ground or on me if i stand next to it. I am forced to hold the nozzle in the filler hole at all times to avoid this issue.

"service side detection system" warning upon startup and sporadically when driving at normal speeds.the blind spot monitor lights in the side mirrors do not function anymore.upon starting the vehicle, both sides used to illuminate while running thru systems check.now only the driver's side lights up.to confirm, the blind spot monitoring does not work for either side of the vehicle now.the sensor is underneath the rear bumper cover, exposed to the elements.there are several forums mentioning this on the gmc terrain denali model along with cadillac and chevrolet models that have the sensor in the same physical location of the car.the sensor is exposed to rain, snow, dirt, dust, mud.i have checked recalls on this but it doesn't appear to have any out there despite forum complaints.there seems to have been "service bulletins" sent out for cadillac and chevrolet models due to customers complaining about this same issue.those have been replaced at no cost to the consumer from what i understand.after doing some research, typical cost for this piece direct from online sellers is $250+.to have the dealer replace, it's looking at a cost upwards of $750+.the number of terrain denali (the only terrain trim with the side blind zone alert) are relatively low compared with the quantity of the cadillac and chevrolet models with this issue.i'm wondering if this is possibly why there were no "service bulletins" on the terrain.the terrain has a horrible blind spot and i utilized this feature all the time when it was working properly.i feel like safety is compromised for myself and my family with this now not working.i appreciate any and all assistance.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the doors automatically unlocked whenever the door handles were pulled. The contact mentioned that on two occasions while driving and the child lock activated, the failure recurred.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 1,500.

Takata recall when driving my vehicle said oil pressure was low and just shut off. Lost all oil. Mechanic said it was an issue with the pcv valve. This happened when driving and happened fast with no warning.

Vehicle violently shifts in low speed gear shifting out of first and second gears.this occurs in both warm and cold temperatures.always when shifting at lower speeds under 20 mph.this has been a repeated issue with the vehicle.

I am having an issue with the oil is burning and it is causing other components to go bad on my car like the catalytic converter . And it is burning out and i have to continue to put oil in the car... I have research and i see that all these models is having issues with the burning of the oil.

We bought our terrain brand new in 2014, i have replaced the linkage once about 2 months ago and now the wipers do not work again. Our transmission is going and we just got out of 5 year warranty. So disappointed and frustrated with this vehicle

Engine stalls/ hesitates especially when at a stop, idle for a period such as at a stop light, also when in reverse and does not have a check engine light. This did happen before anda check engine light did appear. I pulled the codes p0010 and p0011.

2014 gmc terrain with 66,000 miles stalling out when slowing/stopping, low acceleration, loud engine.dealer says oil is low when it was just replaced 2 months (2,700 miles) ago.cannot determine why vehicle is consuming more oil than what gm allows.

Tl *the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain.while driving various speeds, the vehicle veered to the right and stalled.the contact noticed that the key was bent when it was removed from the ignition.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was not notified.the failure mileage was 50.

On line it said that this vehicle was having problems with the timing chain which could break when driving causing damage to motor or worse yet loss of control.i had it to garage and they said the ticking noise is the timing chain.is gmc recalling the vehicles for this?

Driver had stopped at stop sign on the exit ramp and as she began to accelerate to crossover to appropriate lane the car stalled in the middle of the road, reduced engine light came on, and check stability light lit.this was in a very dangerous location as the side road the driver was located was at the bottom of a hill, so oncoming traffic would not have been able to stop and it would have been a t-bone hit for the driver and head on for the oncoming vehicle.the car slowly (very, very slowly) moved forward enough to finally get across street and to a safe place.although no accidents or injuries occurred, it was by the grace of god that no traffic was coming over the hill.this had the potential and has the potential of being a deadly problem if it occurs again or if another vehicle has the same issue.immediately had tow truck pick up car and take to gmc dealership.i am awaiting the results from the dealership.my work requires a lot of travel and now i do not feel safe in this car with this issue (which after research today seems to happen a lot in gmc vehicles. )

In october 2015, i was driving on the interstate in a rural area, and accelerated to pass another vehicle. My passing speed was approximately 80 mph. I merged back into the right lane after passing, and let my foot off the gas. Cruise control was not engaged. The car continued at the passing speed, and started to increase in speed. I waited a few seconds to see what would happen before taking evasive action; as there were no other cars on the highway at this point. For 4-5 seconds this continued. I tapped the brake and no change was detected. I then tapped the accelerator pedal; and the speed disengaged. Vehicle was taken to dealer; diagnostic was run and they could not detect a problem. Dealer was of the opinion that this event had something to do with the drive train, they drove the car but were unable to duplicate the problem. This all seemed to indicate that cruise control was on; however i am sure it was not.

The drive shaft is all rusted. I told the dealer about it and they say that it is made out of steel and not to worry. I am still scared of driving it.

1) brakes have always rubbed & grabbed really hard when applied.almost like they are defective rotors.hard to stop fast.i notice they recalled a lot of their brakes, but not mine.2). The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While driving up a hill, the vehicle rolled backwards. The contact had to slightly depress the accelerator pedal and the brake to keep the vehicle from rolling backwards. The dealer stated that the vehicle was designed to roll backwards. The contact stated that the clutch was not designed to hold. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 15,900.updated 07/13/16*lj

My air bag / seat belt keep light keeps coming on . Code b001b air bag passenger seat anchor pretension deployment loop. This is definitely a safety hazard that should have a recall.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the front passenger seat would not move forward or backwards. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the front passenger seat track was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000.

My car makes a rubbing noise when and only when you stop. Also my forward collision alert comes on when nothing is in front of me. Sometimes it won't even come on when a car is in front of me.

Have not driven vehicle for a month or more because of pressure when braking. Required more pressure when holding brake at red light or in traffic. Felt as if my foot would slip off brake.

When driving at very low speed there is a creaking sound which seems to be coming from the front side on the bottom. Gmc has a service bulletin #pi1314:creak/poptype noise from right front of vehicle during low speed maneuvers-(sept.17,2014). The fix involves ripping up carpet and cutting a hole approx. 1 ft. Square in front wall of interior. The seat has to be removed . The blower motor has to be removed. The right side front console trim plate and body hinge trim panel, then cutting a huge hole in the wall.i had a 2011 terrain, which i purchased new and i never experienced this problem. The noise is unacceptable for a brand new vehicle.

The contact owned a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph and making a right turn, the steering wheel seized. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle that was a stop sign. It was unknown if a police report was filed and there were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,248.

My car completely shut down while turning a corner (powered off).i almost hit a tree because i was unable to turn the steering wheel.oncei applied the brake and put it into park, i was able to restart it with no apparent issue.

Car stalls when making a right turn. I started my car and tried to turn right and continuously stalled until my car was done turning.

Purchased a 2014 gmc terrain certified from a dealer and it had visible rust on drivers side rear passenger door hem. It was taken to abra auto body shop and worked on 3 times with the rust coming right back through only after 7 days. It was seamed and sealed for a final time and the auto body shop even admitted it will not stop the rust and recommends a new door shell. How can a car only 2 yrs 10 months old have this bad of rust? other 3 doors have very light spots and front end fender panels as well. Husband also purchased a 2013 terrain and it has same issues.

The powered lift gate raised all the way up (as requested), then dropped unexpectedly on my wife's back and head then raised again then dropped and latched. The powered lift gate repeats this upon every request to open and will not remain open, making the rear cargo area basically useless. The lift gate is very heavy and could possibly injure someone when dropping down unexpectedly. The vehicle was parked in our garage upon the first time and the vehicle has been parked each time the lift gate was requested to open.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. When the tailgate was ajar, it independently closed. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the liftgate struts failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000. Updated 12/21/16*ljthe consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 12/22/16.

I have a 2014 gmc terrain slt that when the lift gate is opened it goes all the way open, drops closed about 1/4 of the way and then opens fully again, then with power closes-slams shut.the first time it happened 3 days ago, it hit me in the head and knocked me to the ground.i called dealer where i purchased it from and the teck there said there were no noted problems or recalls for the "terrain" models and i should come in and just have both the left side actuator and the right side gas strut replaced. This initially happened in my driveway with the car in park and engine off.has also happened with the car in my driveway with engine running.

This vehicle does not have vents to circulate heat/ac in the back seat. Main issue is in the summer. My toddler son is usually sweating and in distress because he is so hot. Despite having the a/c on lowest temp, and blowing at the highest speed, it still does not circulate very well throughout the vehicle. So, i'm freezing while my son is burning up. Makes traveling difficult with an upset child. Come on, gm, smarten up. You're better than this.

Car cut off when gear in drive & brake was let go. Would cut right back on but same issue continued. Once car was able to go it shook if driven over 20mph.

Key is locking in the ignition. When turning on the car the screen does not display, stays blank. Cannot turn the radio on or off or up. It's happening more and more. It continues while driving. The gear shifter sticks in park and is extremely hard at times to get it in reverse or drive.

Have water or coolant leaking from an unknown location. Causing mold build up on the carpet from the front all the way to the rear passenger seats. Thought it could've been the ac drain tube, but pull the tube off and cleaned, still same issue. Car smells so bad of mold my pregnant wife is unable to drive that vehicle.

When driving the vehicle sporadically jerks. I've taken it to get fixed at williams chevrolet 3 times (1) in feb 2018, i was told the vehicle needed to be flushed, both the flush and 2 days later the truck jerked again, took it back again in feb 2018 the mechanic rode with me in the vehicle and he felt the jerk, this time i was told to use high octane gas well i do use high octane gas, left and the car jerked took it back a 3rd time p, mar. 2018 and was then told the vehicle had a sensor update, they claimed the update was done and i would have no more issues. It's now december 2018 and the vehicle is still jerking sporadically.this vehicle here local driving on the streets and when traffic is slow on the highway with stop and go traffic it jers as well sporadically.

My wife was driving down the road in a rainstorm on june 13, 2019 and both wipers suddenly stopped working. The vehicle was taken to the dealership on friday, june 14 and we were charged $350 to replace the wiper transmission and the dealer told us that the vehicle was not part of a recall .i could hear the motor working but the wipers were not moving.

Takata recall when driving my vehicle said oil pressure was low and just shut off. Lost all oil. Mechanic said it was an issue with the pcv valve. This happened when driving and happened fast with no warning.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain.the contact stated that while with low beams activated, the upper half of the windshield was totally black. While driving vehicle in heavy rain wipers stopped working. Since rain was so heavy it was not safe to drive without the wipers. After pulling over to side of road the vehicle was towed to nearest dealer where the wiper module was replaced due to failure.

I was diving down gratiot street in saginaw michigan, it was raining heavily and my windshield wiper decided to stop working completely.i lost all visibility and had pulled over immediately to avoid causing an accident.while sitting in my car waiting for the rain to stop i realize that my windshield wiper motor was still working, because i could hear it moving back and forth.but my wipers were not.i have read that there is a problem with some of the hard wear and a lot of prior years have been recalled. I've already had to replace the engine in this car, now only to find out that this car with it faulty equipment can potentially cause me my life... I will not recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Driving and there was a thump and the right windshield wiper arm came to a stop in the middle of my windshield and would no longer work during a downpour.

I was driving on the highway i75 yesterday october 29th 2020 during heavy rain the wipers were on and working, as soon as i turn the wiper speed to a faster rotation all of the sudden the wipers just stopped working and was hard to see anything. The next morning i checked all fuses and motor, when i turn the wiper on the motor still made noise. I took the wiper assembly apart and got into the wiper linkage and saw it had came apart, i put it back on and turn on the wiper and it came right off, looks like the link and bushing is rusted and needs replaced. I did some research and it looks like it's a pretty common with the terrains and equinox. This is an dangerous issue that gm needs to address and get it fix for its customers.

Windshield wipers quit while driving 55 mph on expressway during heavy rainstorm.very limited visibility to get off the road and wait for rain to stop.after getting to a service shop i was told the windshield wiper transmission had failed.one of the transmission joints had popped open

While driving in a rainstorm, the wipers stopped working. This caused my visibilityto suddenly become extremely compromised. A tractor trailer was in front of me and spraying water from the tires due to heavy rain as well. I had to pull over, under an over pass, and wait out the rain. This is extremely dangerous in of itself to be on the side of a major highway. I have since investigated and found the ball joint connection to the wiper arm corroded and broke off. The wiper motor still runs. This is identical to the 2013 gmc terrain issue.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While the contact was driving in a rain storm, the front windshield wipers suddenly stopped working, which created a visibility hazard for the driver. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the wiper blades failed, but the wiper motor was still operable. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (bruce lowery, 711 southwest rt. 820, fort worth, tx) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 78,000.

I was driving when the storm hit, my windshield wipers were working and just stopped.they haven't worked since.i can hear the motor run when i turn them on, but no movement of the wipers at all.

While driving home from work on the highway during a thunderstorm, the windshield wipers stopped working which forced me to pull over because of no viability! i had to wiatbfor the rain to stop in order to make it home. Have replaced fuse and they are still not working! was told that the motor may have failed and would cost around 300 to 400 dollars to repair. Have seen multiple reports of others having the same issue. Wipers are still not working as i am unable to afford repair cost.

On 7/30/21 was driving on freeway going about 60mph in a heavy rainstorm when wiper blades suddenly stopped working in the middle of my windshield. Nearly crashed the car due to extremely poor visibility. This was a horrifying and dangerous safety issue. Had to pull over to side of the road out of traffic and wait for the rain to stop. I was in the middle of an 8 hour road trip and still had 4 hours of driving to go. Upon investigation when turning the blades on you can hear the motor working but no movement of the blades. Thankfully no one got hurt in this event. This happened shortly after hitting 100k miles.

Driving home on the highway this past week during a rain storm, my wiper blades suddenly slipped off the side of the windshield and would no longer move.they became stuck leaning over the driver's side window.i tried to push them back but they would not move.i could hear the motor but they were in a set position.i had to go to an automotive repair shop and had the wiper transmission replaced.u

The engine is burning oil. Losing oil quickly and no leak. Wiper motor shot. 90k miles on vehicle

As many other complaints filed here my wiper transmission/linkage has failed also but just week for the second time after having replaced it just last year with new replacement one. I was driving home from work and it was snowing partial city street and highway driving. Last year when it failed it was raining on my way home on highway. Needless to say i would like an explanation as to why this has failed for a second time and no manufacturing design upgrade has been done by gm to rectify this continual failure.

I was driving to work during a rain storm. I drove for about 25 minutes until i reached the highway. I merged onto the highway behind a tractor trailer. There was enough spray that i needed to put the wipers on high speed. After driving for a few minutes the wipers came down and stopped halfway. I was able to pull over on the shoulder and tried to determine what happen. I turned wipers off and on and could hear the wiper motor whirring. Motor worked but wipers did not engage. I got out of the vehicle and pushed the wipers down and they moved freely telling me they are not connected to the motor. This was very dangerous and scary! i am now in need of repairing this issue.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving in the rain, the windshield wipers failed to function. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiper unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

While driving in the rain, my windshield wipers just stopped working while in an upright position on the windshield. Not only could i not see due to the rain, the wipers were actually blocking my view as well. They now will not turn on at all.

I was driving home in the rain/sleet when my wipers just stopped working. Was very scary as i was on a highway and couldn't see out of the front windshield. I never had a problem before this and wipers just quit working.

On an extremely rainy day, the windshield wipers stopped working.my son was driving the car, and his safety was extremely compromised.he could not see out the windshield at all, and he was lucky that he was in a position to get to the side of the road without incident. If he were on a highway, it would have been extremely dangerous.this occurred on july 8th, 2021. There were no warnings that precipitated the problem.the wipers were working fine. We went to our mechanic who had to replace the entire windshield wiper mechanism due to corroded joints. We paid approximately $260. The mechanic said this is a very common problem with gm wipers. We did not keep the damaged part...we did not know that this was a safety issue with other model gmc terrains until today.clearly, it is a widespread problem, and there should be a recall, as this is extremely dangerous

Literally almost died with my son in this vehicle, as we we're driving back home on the interstate traffic was heavy for sunday evening due to the amount of rain that was falling. In the middle of this drive the wipers stopped working, they stopped in the upward positions. Which added to the difficulty of visibility as i put my hazards and play that we wouldn't get hit or that i wouldn't hit anything. I was finally able to pull over and fiddled with the wipers to try to get them to work-againand didn't happen we had to stay on the side of the road until the rain subsided a bit to make it home it was horrifying. As being in florida it rains a lot and heavywe still had a long trip ahead of us to get home. I did reach out to several repair shops and they're telling this common with these vehicle surprised it's not a recall. Adding insult to injury the repair is definitely costly as a single parent this is beyond difficult during these covid times with not having work. If gmc is aware of this problem why haven't they done anything about it ??? for every gmc terrain owner be careful check your wipersespecially if you children because this is the kind of scare that you don't want to have. All i can hope for is sharing this experience will help others because it's what is sincerely horrifying.

Driving in residential area while heavy rain was present wipers stopped working suddenly and stopped up on windshield. I was unable to see and had to pull over until rain cleared up.

I received a document dated dec 2019 regarding a condition where a link ball socket in the wiper transmission may separate causing a complete loss of wiper function. It is not being handled as a recall which i think it should be. Only vehicles which experience this failure will be repaired. This appears to be more of a safety issue than an advisory and should be considered a recall or be done for free at the owners request. I contacted patriot gmc in boyertown and asked that the repair be done under the advisory notice as a courtesy but have not heard back.

Windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of a rainstorm in an upright position.making visibility very low. Had to pull the car over and wait until the rain stopped.motor is still making noises but case seems to be similar or the same as the recall on the 2013 gmc terrains.possible corrosion of the linkage.accident was almost caused because of this incident.

28 dec 2018 my wife was driving home during rain storm on rt 80 west boundapx exit 12 nj drivers side wiper assembly / linkagefell apart . Visibility was zero, was able to pull off of highway. Local repair station verified linkage failed, was unable to repair due to lack of parts. Wecontacted dealer and have scheduled repair for 31 dec. Have requested the dealer review failure and submit report of failure to gmc and nhtsa. Situation was extremely dangerous, had no prior indication of pending failure, research after the failure has indicated reported increased issues of this type with this my as well as others my's.

As several other people with this vehicle have reported recently, wipers stopped working while in a rainstorm. I tried changing the fuse since but no change. I can hear the motor running when switching to the on position but no response at all from either wipe.

My 2014 gmc terrian wipers stopped working. I can hear the wiper motor running, butwipers not moving. This was very dangerous as i had to make an emergency stop during heavy rain with limited visibilaty.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph in a rain storm, the front windshield wipers suddenly became inoperable causing a visibility hazard to the driver. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the windshield wiper module had failed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but, no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,000.*dt

While driving on i-75 s in kentucky during a torrential downpour my windshield wipers stopped in filed goal position making it impossible for me to see. I had to carefully pull over to the side of the highway. I tried replacing the fuse, to no avail. I attempted to use rainex to improve visibility but that didn't help much. The dealership wants to charge $125 to look at my vehicle. I could've been killed on the highway .this should be a recall due to this recurring issue with this make and model

I was driving at approximately 25mph while using the windshield wipers and they stopped when straight up and down (12 o'clock). The wipers are very easy to move by hand.

It happened again, in a snow storm my wipers suddenly quit working. Last time it was the bushing or whatever had popped out, i assume it's the same this time. I was on my way to work in blizzard like conditions, poor his ability and dangerous road conditions.

While driving home on 1/19/2019 in rain my wipers quit working..could hear wiper motor still running but wiper blades not moving.luckly i was close to home or i could have had a serious problem.i am assuming something broke as i have not gotten them repaired yet.planning on getting with dealer to get them fixed...

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 45 mph in heavy rain, the windshield wipers stopped operating. The contact had to pull over to the side of the road and wait until the rain stopped. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiper/washer transmission arm was fractured and needed replacement. The contact drove the vehicle to an unknown local chevrolet/gmc dealer located in thelma, texas, but it was not diagnosed because the vin was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.

While driving 70 mph on the interstate in the middle of the pouring rain with the windshield wipers operating, both front wipers completely stopped working out of nowhere. Luckily it was 5:45 am on my way to work with not many cars around. I threw on my hazards and pulled over until the rain cleared. I checked the fuse and it was fine, restarted my car to see if they would work, but no luck. Come to find out there is a recall that was just issued but only for 2013 gmc terrains. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be recalled for other years of the terrain as well.

When you turn on the wipers above the first click they detach from the wiper arm and quit working. Everything has to be torn apart to reassemble. It's happened in motion and stationary. It's happened multiple times. Can't drive it when it rains.

Wipers for my gmc terrain 2014 stop working in middle of heavy rain in highway. Managed to pull over and wait for rain to stop. You can hear motor running. There was a recall for other years but 2014 was not included.

We were driving on the highway at 70 mph in a heavy rain.the windshield wipers stopped working.we had to pull over quickly but do to very low visibility this was difficult.we waited until the rain stopped and drove home.upon inspection we determined that the linkage of the windshield wiper motor mechanism had broken.

While driving to niagara with my son on the mass pike, my wipers just stopped working . It was raining heavily for the last 2 hours of the trip and it was harrowing , stressful and unsafe . We could not find an open garage to fix the problem . The guy at rest stop tried to replace the fuse but that didn't work . It needed a new motor and transmission which cost me $562.42, including car loan for $29.95 so i could go to work . I have read similar complaints for the 2014 terrain .

While driving on hwy 121 in a heavy rainstorm my wipers froze! the right wiper arms stopped at 12 o clock position right in front of my view while the left arm stopped off to my far left at approx 9 oclock position sticking out past my driver side mirror!!!i had to pull over to shoulder and manually place arms in flat (off) position. I called aaa to tow me to safety. I checked fuses, they were fine and wiper motor also running but arms will not move for front wipers at all. Rear wiper still functioning.

I live in ohio where we get a lot of snow so i was driving on the highway and the weather was not so great a lot of snow on the road and coming down a car drove by me and threw snow and slush on my window and the windshield wiper worked but it didn't help cause i need the wiper fluid didn't work and could see out the window cause it had that white stuff where i couldn't see out the front windshield i ohmust went off the road so i had to pull over on the highway that was very bad with all the snow on the road where i should of been was in my car but i have to put water on my windshield that i had in my car to clean the window that is a safety hazard and cause a wreak i did a google search and found a lot of other people had this problem not just me and should be a recall and if i remember that had a recall on that system before so its a known problem need to check this out asap.

While driving in a heavy downpour on i-71 in cleveland, ohio, my wipers stopped suddenly.i had to pull over on the side of the freeway for several hours until the rain stopped in order to continue on.this could have resulted in an accident and serious injuries or even death especially due to the location, rush hour traffic and speed (60mph).up to this point, i have had zero issues and indications that something was wrong.i was shook to the core and now have to pay to see what exactly was the cause but wanted to report it immediately due to other complaints.thank you.

While driving in a snow storm my wipers suddenly stopped working. They are moveable by hand, but do not engage at all when turned on. It sounds like motor engages, but wipers do not move.

I was driving on the highway in the rain using my wipers when they stopped. They no longer work. They don't move at all.

I was driving to physical therapy when a heavy downpour started. I had the wipers going full speed and still could barely see the road, when all of a sudden both wipers just stopped in the middle of the windshield and would not work. I could hear the motor still running and spinning, but the wipers wouldnā€™t move. I had it looked at and the wiper linkage arm had popped off and the ball joints and sockets are all worn out.

I was driving 70mph on highway during rain storm. The windshield wipers all of a sudden stopped working. I was nearly in an accident due to no visibility and made it to the berm of the highway. I had to sit there for over an hour until the storm passed. Took to dealership next day and they said the wiper linkage transmission failed. I did research and gm is aware of this issue however only issued recall on 2013 models in the us. Gm canada has issued recall on model years through 2016. Gm is aware of this issue and are putting lives at risk. It makes no sense why they issue a recall in one country and not the other. Something needs to be done asap.

The windshield wipers quit working while driving down the highway in a rain storm.wiper transmission failed.vehicle had to be abandoned overnight due to not being able to drive in the rain.

The contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 55 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers stopped working without warning. The contact called rick hendrick chevrolet buick gmc at (804)-793-9305 (located at 12050 w broad st, richmond, va 23233) and was informed that the windshieldwiper linkage was fractured and needed to be replaced. Themanufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

While driving on the highway yesterday in heavy rain, my windshield wipers completely stopped working.i was in the passing lane, beside a semi, and suddenly i had almost zero visibility!!!i managed to get to the side of the road and stopped, but not without almost causing a wreck that would have involved several vehicles.while sitting there waiting for it to quit raining, i began to research what the issue could be.i was beyond upset to find out that this exact issue has already been reported to your agency more than 20 times!further, these defective wiper assemblies have already been recalled in canada because they pose a serious safety issue!!!it is absolutely ridiculous and negligent to not issue a recall for this issue to be corrected.i demand an explanation as to why it's apparently going to take someone actually getting killed because of this nonsense before any action is taken!?!?!?!

Wipers stopped working in the middle of functioning properly on the expressway in the middle of a rain storm. Checked fuse & relay - all have power. Regulator broken.

Radio stsyem went out, wiped blade motor defective, cam shaft sensors went out due to oil consumption, sensor actuator went out due to oil consumption, car would die while driving because of oil consumption/cam shaft error, engine is consuming to much oil-per engine oil study done by my dealership.

I was driving our vehicle on 8/28/2019 and the windshield wipers stopped working during a downpour.luckily we had gotten off of the highway, were close to home, and were able to slowly make it home, but had the failure happened on the highway the results could have been catastrophic.took the car to our martys buick/gmc in kingston, ma and they informed us that the wiper module and transmission assembly had failed and we have to vehicle repaired for roughly $400.this issue has been well documented and recalls issued in canada from this make, year, and model vehicle.no so in the us.this is absolutely unacceptable and needs to be rectified.

We bought our terrain brand new in 2014, i have replaced the linkage once about 2 months ago and now the wipers do not work again. Our transmission is going and we just got out of 5 year warranty. So disappointed and frustrated with this vehicle

When i left work yesterday evening it was dark and raining outside, and naturally, i turned on my front windshield wipers.about five minutes into my drive home, while on the highway, my front windshield wipers stopped operating.i could not see anything ahead of me, because it was raining pretty hard at that point and it was extremely dark on the highway.the vehicles behind me were approaching pretty fast. I put my hazard lights on, and crossed three lanes to get to the side of the road.i waited, approximately 15 minutes on the side of the road, for the rain to stop, but it never did.i was about 1/2 mile away from my exit, so i inched my way there, while driving on the side of the road. I made it to a nearby gas station and waited an hour for the rain to die down. I drove behind other vehicles, using their rear lights as my visual guide in order to make it home. My front windshield wipers never turned back on.it was a horrible experience.luckily there were no fatalities as a result of my windshield wipers malfunctioning.

2014 gmc terrian front windshield wipers stopped working. Can hear windshield wiper motor running but both the passenger and driver side blade arms will not move. This occurred while driving the car.

While driving in heavy rain on city streets my wipers suddenlystopped working. I was able to stop without having a wreck and was close to a gmc dealership. I drove very slow with great difficulty to the dealer and had to leave the vehicle there. Thisis a saturday and will not hear from them until monday as to the repair.

I was driving on the highway in the rain and wipers stopped working. They were stuck in the upright position. I got off the road and moved them physically down out of my view. They then would not turn on. I can hear the motor turning but the wipers do not move.

Driving out of state on a highway in a rain storm my wipers quit working. I was in the passing lane doing 70mph, had to pull off to the side of the highway ,when the rain let up i got the car to the dealership where they fixed it and charged me 450.00. They had said there was not a recalland i had a partial extended warranty .so when i got back from my trip i looked into the recall info and certian cars were recalled (not mine) for the same issue, canada recalled all years for this issue and my car was mfd by gm of canada. They told me my miles (67000) made it out of warranty this is not a serviceable part and i did not have my wipers on for 67000 miles! myself or my young son could of been seriously hurt or even killed and gm is giving me a run around about refunding me the 450.00 , i think i am being reasonable for my request? the part number for the part replaced is 84241847 wiper transmission module

While driving on the interstate this morning during a storm, my windshield wipers quit working. I couldn't see anything and was worried i was going to cause an accident because of this. I was finally able to make it off to the nearest exit to check my wipers. The wipers wouldn't work but i could hear the motor working. When i finally made it back to my house, i checked on this and found that older terrains were recalled because of this issue with wiper blades being faulty.

Wiper transmission ball socket failure. Driving in heavy rain and it almost caused me to wreck. This has been recalled in canada but not in the usa. It is the same part and the terrains are all made in canada....ridiculous!!!1

I was driving on i-85 south at about 55 mph headed to work on april 19, 2019 during a heavy rain storm. I was driving in the hov peach lane when all of a sudden, my wiper blades stopped completely in an upright position causing complete blindness.i could not see any of the cars in front of me at all.since i was driving in the hov peach lane (left lane), i had no shoulder to pull over.my car was still partially on the interstate causing a traffic jam and people had to stop to go around me.i had to call the hero unit to help me get to the right side of the interstate.the rain was so heavy, i could not drive the vehicle.i had to get towed to my house.i never made it to work.i now find out this is an ongoingproblem with the wiper unit and my safety is now compromised when there are heavy rains.this wiper unit should have been recalled years ago.at the very least, please recall before someone is killed or hurt.
