Dear safety officer, this is to bring to your attention that i wish to pursue legal action against gmc. My life was at risk in an accident. As it is accidents are un-welcomed, to add to it the safety feature (airbags) from my gmc vehicle chasis no [xxx],origin canada, register in uae did not function at all. A deploy sign appeared on the display, but none of the airbags functioned as required. The vehicle was purchased brand new less than a year ago under warranty with complete service history. The damage was so much to the vehicle that my insurance company declared it as total loss and are settling with me for the amount they had insured the vehicle for (or a suitable sum). Despite the extent of the damage, the airbags did not function, putting my life at risk.a gmc reply which puts serious questions on the rear impact test practiced in design .a airbag system integrated with seat belt and warning sign, upon crash fully extended but did not roll back to factory setting is clear sign for visual evidence.a edr(evident data recorder)will not be accessed by the customer due to rights held by the manufacturer for warranty.as safety is the norms for us vehicles,a complete failure of multiple collision raises the doubt of gmc complying with safety during design and test execution.what would be the malfunction of safety system could be investigated in order to minimize the fatality in the design features.a thorough investigation is needed after the finding of edr recordings.i will be relieved if the future design improvement will save many lives from similar crashes.it would be mercy of god not because of airbags two lives have been saved .[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Takata recall.we were in an accident on 05/12/2017 where someone hit us head on at 50 mph.we were taken to the hospital, and later discovered the takata air bag failed to deploy. The vehicle was a total loss, with the front end crashed in, frame was bent, and the battery was split in half from the speed of the impact.i was at a stop light started to make a left turn after the light turned green, driving at approximately 10 miles per hour.
It started saying service airbags
Front end collision, second driver was going 60mph. Dashboard on the terrain indicated that the airbags were deployed, but they failed to deploy.
Was driving down highway us19 and collided with another vehicle at at least 40mph and airbags did not deploy
The contact owned a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving 10 mph, the vehicle reversed on its own and crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a body shop. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
The airbag light will not go off..the biggest problem is the acceleration issues..when i give the gas to increase speed it hesitate..and sometimes the engine races for no reason..and when i put the car in drive it will not go..it gets stuck..i have to put it in park for a minute the put it back into drive then it will go.
Vehicle was involved in a severe accident where the other driver ran a stop sign and hit terrain causing severe front end and engine damage. Air bags failed to deploy. Injures included were neck and back. Damage was severe enough to cause airbags to deploy but never did . Having an indept inspection conducted as to why they never deployed.
Was in an accident, hit from behind and the dash stated the air bags were deployed, they were not.the smell of gun powder made it seem like they were triggered but did not deploy. I was at a full stop and was hit on a 2 lane road the driver hit me at approx. 45 mph
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. When the brake pedal was depressed at an unknown speed, the vehicle failed to respond and the brake pedal traveled to the floor without warning. As a result, another vehicle crashed into the passenger side of the contact's vehicle. The curtain side air bags deployed, however the driver and passenger side air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained minor injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,396.
After purchasing this vehicle two weeks later i developed a very serious skin rash on my face and neck and severe health issues causing me to have cardiac arrest symptoms in and out of the hospital for the past 11 months my daughter has been in the hospital and my dog is also dying from the same symptoms. My situation is life or death at this moment and my condition is unknown and i'm not sure if i will survive
We bought my daughter a brand new gmc terrain.her old gmc had over 200,000 miles on it.she had a blown out tire prior to this incident.she was not driving fast and there was not reason for the tire to blow out.she is on her way home from a friends house and goes over a railroad track, not speeding.another tire blows out. Has to get car towed.the tow car to gmn dealership.days in shop airbag issues, tire had to be replaced.takes over 4 days to be repaired has to go back.over $1700.00 bill.this is second time this has happened.
The airbags light keeps showing up on my board.
I was rear ended while attempting to come to a stop.the impact pushed me into the car in front of me.my seat belts locked and the air bag light deployed.but the air bag did not deploy (just the light).
States that air bag need serviced.
While traveling approximately 45-50 miles per hour on a two-lane country road, a deer struck my vehicle.the front grille, radiator, and fiberglass were damaged.a strong burning smell became apparent and a 'service airbag' warning message appeared, but the airbag did not deploy.
Out of no where my car is telling me to service airbag.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. When the ignition was turned to the on position, the backup camera screen failed to operate. My car since day one steering wheels locks up constantly, the brakes do not stop you the worst is the engines battery which is located under the seat constantly says i have no power it will turn on several codes and the start idling the rpms go up like your press g the gas but you not then you stall you can be going 70 or 20 mph and it will just stall with no warning. The steering wheel will and i lose traction in regular roads in perfect weather. I can't seem to locate my airbags i have had my vehicle services a million times they always say nothing is wrong also when the rpms or going up.and down i lose all headlights and dash lights. This has happened to me at night so many times. This vehicle has almost killed me so many times i lost count i take it to service there is never an issue. I'm probably going to end up in a severe accident soon the brake pedal sticks and i can't press it down i had to pull into grass one time to avoid a car.

After being parked for 30 minutes. The vehicle caught on fire at the driver side taillight. The cause of the fire determined by the police and fire department was faulty electrical wiring.
I have called gm on numerous occasions regarding my engine failing while driving. Stalling in the middle of busy intersections. They opened at least 7 cases involving this same situation and knowing my fear of getting killed when this vehicle just shuts off while driving or just turning a corner or waiting at a stop light!! my heater did not work, my radio will freeze up and is non functioning sometimes..i'm afraid to drive with my grandchildren.as i write this my engine light came on again after a $1,000 repair of the timing chain. This happened while i was driving home from work at 1:30 in the morning on a country road and a sheriff deputy happened to be patrolling snd helped me by calling a towing service because my suv would not start.. The deputy even got my manual out to see if he could figure out the problem.. When i called gm i was treated sooo disrespectfully by a girl that was assigned to my cases.. I do have receipts and the cases numbers and dates wrote down when i talked to gm.. I need a safe vehicle and i owe $19,000 still and now it's only worth $6,000... I'm a widow and only making ends meet.. This has been a scary struggle... Please help!! thank you and god bless.🙏🏼

Intermittent electrical problems while driving or stopped1.when the car is running radio controls do not work.cannot turn off, adjust volume or change station.2.if the radio is turned off when you start the car, sometimes you cannot turn it on.3.control panel below radio is not illuminated at times.4.seat heaterlight on control panel did not turn on when button was pressed. Couldn't turn seat heater off4.tire pressure diagram is incorrect.shows the wrong underinflated tire.5.lights on odometer/radio panel will sometimes change to very bright or very dim.the knob to control the brightness does not work when this happens.6.a few times the a/c kicked on when driving and we weren't using the automatic climate control feature.7.after the car has been parked in the garage for hours, the control panel will spontaneously light up for no reason.8 everything points to control panel but since problems are intermittant dealer wont replace. And your form stupidly allows only 1 date when there were 20 incidents over a year in time.

Showed stability track. I was driving on the highway when it showed service stability trak then engine power reduced. It took my speed from a 65 to 35 in an instant causing me to almost crash. Then the car started to jerk as i tried to drive to find somewhere safe.
The abs light is on and service engine soon light has been on since my wife has bought her car in sept 2018 when she had a warenty the dealer sold her a car made her sign paper work before she could even test drive vehicle know we have a vehicle that doesnt work properly traction control is off stabilitrack is on dash notification also timing chain is bad and crankshaft needs to be replaced acording to diagnostic code dealership in alexandria mn lakes area auto sales eric gardener is the owner which refuses to fix or give us diferent car my family has 5 disabled people that we need to transport and know cant because of the dealership selling us a car thats not reliable
Crash control keeps braking for a crash when there is nothing in front of.had the brakes replaced so i know it is not that
The stability track gave an error and the engine now slow. The error doesn't let the vehicle to accelerate. The check engine light also went on.
This is the second time in a year that the service stabilititrak light has come on and a message to do that has come up on the information screen on the dash.when this happens the engine power is immediately reduced.then you cannot turn this off as it locks the controls for this feature which can normally be turned on and off.i took the car in the first time and there we're relay and sensor issues which they fixed.i am waiting for the call as to what is going on this time.is this a safety issue for not just this vehicle but any vehicle to have a feature that you can turn on and off to immediately cause power loss?should you not be able to turn this feature off to avoid causing an accident and possibly causing someone to be injured or killed?especially since this is a feature you can turn on and off anytime you want when it is working correctly.i have read on different web sites that others have had this same issue.
Engine power reduced light came on and there is rattling noise under the hood.we pulled out of a drive thru into oncoming traffic when this all started.
On a cold 12 degree day on 1/19/2020 i was driving my 2013 gmc terrain on a busy state highway doing the speed limit of 55 mph. Out of no where i began to smell the odor of burning oil and seen white smoke coming from the rear of my vehicle. As soon as i noticed it my car's gauges started coming on. The check engine light, a warning to for "service stabilitrak", then the warning for "engine power reduced". At the moment my car all the sudden shut off while driving down a major highway! there was no power steering and it was very hard for me steer my car into the parking lot of walmart and safely off the road. Once in the parking lot i got out of the car and checked my oil. Smoke is rolling out of the dipstick shaft. I check my oil weekly due to gm's oil consumption issues with the 2013 gmc terrains and on 1/15/2020 the oil was at full, was of normal color and consistency when i fueled and checked it that day. So i was shocked to see that there was no oil on my dipstick and instead a milky brownish sludge on it. I sent my fiance to buy me 2 quarts of oil just to get it to the walmart service department so they could look at it since i was in the walmart parking lot. I added the oil drove it 100 yards to the service dept of walmart. The service man pulled it into the garage and then informed me a few minutes later that the rear main seal blew and oil was flowing out of it. It was not driveable so i had to have it towed to a gm dealer. The gm dealer called me this morning 1/21/2020 to inform me that the rear main seal blew due to moisture in the intake and a froze the pcv module and caused to much pressure to build up and blew the seal. The dealer quoted the repairs to be $2065.69 and informed me that the repairs are not covered under the gm service bulletin #14882 because my vin number is not included in the service bulletin.

The car has oil consumption issues which is causing it to stall. My car stalled while driving in traffic which could very easily cause a bad accident gm is aware of the issue but won't fix it. I am already on my second engine do to this excessive oil consumption.
"takata recall"2018 december 22 i noticed my engine had a deep growl when i went to accelerate, after a while it would quiet down. I checked the oil and there was none noticeable on the dip stick, nor was there a warning on my console to add oil.i added oil.i scheduled an oil change on 12/27 ( first time one was available ) .i mentioned the growl and lack of oil to the technician.he stated that the 2013 terrianwas known to have oil consumption issues and to contact the dealer asap. So i did.at the deal zimbrick - sun prairie, withey looked up my vin and stated there were not issues related to my vin number. My only option was to replace engine parts as needed which would be approx $3000 expense for me or keep oil on hand and monitor closely.i asked if there was a way to escalate this issue and they suggested i look up the gmc customer service phone number online, and call them so i did . I called gmc customer service and started claim # 9-49-45955696,on 12/27/2018 . I was told there was a 2 day wait for a follow up call.i was contacted by login from gmcon 12/31/0218, he left a message and i tried to call back but we were unable to connect until 1/3/2019 werewe discussed the issue and he connected me with zimbrick gmc east madison. Login did inform me there was a gmc warranty for this issue that was in affect until 12/31/2018, so i am glad i called in my claim on 12/27/2018. With the fact that i had just had a new oil change i was asked to put on 2000 miles and then come in to start an oil consumption test.so this is where i stand.i sure hope with all i have been seeing online aboutother people with oil consumption issues that gmc stands behind this error and fixes it at their expense.
Oil was pouring out from the bottom of our 2013 gmc terrain, "low oil pressure shut off engine" signal came on the dashboard. Terrain had to be towed to a local shop where they ran a diagnostic test. Diagnostic test came back with #19-na-021. We were informed about sb-10057977-8108, a recall from gm involving an oil leak from rear part of engine.we have also been informed that our vin is ineligible and cannot be protected through the special coverage, but are requesting an investigation into the matter.
Excessive oil consumption.this is a known problem with this car...you all know it is and gm should issue a recall.
I had just purchased the 2013 gmc terrain denali and noticed that it has a bogging sensation in the steering at idle when turning.it feels like the steering is going to cut out - almost like not fully engaging the clutch on a manual transmission when the engine is about to die.very noisy and annoying in the tight parking garage when you have to turn the steering at a standstill during idle.there is a ticking noise coming from under the dash that sounds like a construction worker jackhammering about 1 block away with the windows up.it can also be described as a helicopter hovering overhead at around 200-300 feet.you can only hear it from inside the cab.i should have noticed this during the test drive, except that the radio was on and there were no tight steering situations.i was told that both of these items are normal by the gmc dealer.be sure to test out these two scenarios when test driving.too late for me, and unfortunately i have to live with it but would rather not.
Vehicle sputters on the highway sometimes shuts off at highway speed, when i turn my key off the car continues to run for 3-5 seconds. When i turn a corner vehicle sputters and tries to die sometimes does. When stopped at a stop sign vehicle will die. High pressure fuel pumps are known to do this and i have excess fuel in my oil.

The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine oil pressure was low and the timing chain had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 124,000.
Stalling issues - i have an issue with my vehicle stalling - the vehicle will stall out after staring the ignition and putting it in reverse or drive.once you give it the gas it will just shut down - loses all power.it's happened when backing out of a parking space, it's happened at a stop sign before pulling onto a roadway, it's happened leaving my driveway - i have researched an have seen that this is a common issue with this make and model and don't understand why there has not been a recall.this is putting people's life in danger, i am looking to get rear ended or knocked out of the road by a truck or something.the code is coming up as an oxygen sensor -
Our terrain started knocking right before it's due for an oil change.we checked it and it had no oil.the dealership has brushed it away and stated that it's not leaking but could be burning the oil.it wasn't until we talked to a mechanic that we were told that certain gmc vehicles burning oil and that it is recommended we spend more money on more oil replacing 1 quart every 1000 miles.we also found that our radio stopped working but because the dealership failed to inform us that the warranty we got didn't cover the radio.they told us we could get it repaired but we would have to pay out of pocket.this will be the last time we buy a gmc or a chevy suv due to the issues with getting the repairs done and the fact that we want a reliable vehicle.
The engine kept losing oil but the mechanics could never find the oil leak. I was driving on the expressway when the engine went out completely and my car locked up on the eway. My car only has 102k miles. Gm has a bulletin out showing that 2013 gm car engine have an over oil consumption problem. They claim that my car vin wasn't included however that is the only reason why my engine could of locked up without an oil leak. Https://gm.oemdtc.com/1893/excessive-oil-consumption-2010-2013-buick-chevrolet-gmc
This vehicle is consuming oil at an excessive rate. This has caused other issues such as solenoids needing replacement as well as a timing chain.this seems to be a common issue among this year make and model.it is extremely dangerous to drive.i have to add oil in between oil changes and if the timing chain goes due to this, it can cause a major accident.
Gmc terrain consuming excessive oil every 1-2k miles. No bulletins, or recalls present, multiple vehicles suffering issue.
I have a leaking rear main seal. This should be covered under gm bulletin 14882.i had a gm technician inspect the vehicle at glockners chevrolet and gmc dealer in portsmouth, ohio. He said the deal is leaking do to a clogged pcv valve. This is the very thing covered in the bulletin but they refuse to fix it because the vin does not match. This is happening on numerous gm vehicles with this engine it should be covered under warranty. The temperature has been below freezing her for the last couple days. I drove the vehicle approximately 10 miles from work to the dealership.
Since the purchase of the 2013 gmc terrain on 9/6/18 at 93,100 there have been 2 oil changes and two 2qt top offs with an average of 1qt added every 1,000 miles. The second top off showed a white substance indicating a possible issue related to piston ring wear. On 12/5/18 repairs were assessed by a licensed mechanic who found no oil leak. Before oil top offs no oil can light illumination was present and car showed over 50% oil life. Mechanic stated that repairs would need to be made in order to fix the massive oil consumption issue.
I have had my 2013 gmc terrain for 3 years and it has problems with the oil consumption, starting, traction light comes on by itself and truck cuts off without warning. This started several weeks ago. Oil, it consumes large amounts of oil between the oil changes. I check the digital oil displays, that show how much oil remains, and it can go from 80% remains to 70% remains in a matter of days. Icutting off, this happens at random times. When i drive, it looses power and cuts off in the middle of the street. No warning at all. This is very scary especially with my children in the car. It will loose power and not accelerate and i have had drift to the shoulder of the road. I am scared it will do this on the highway when driving at high speeds.starting,my suv can start with no problem and i can drive to the store 5 minutes away and it will not start when i return. I try starting it 5 times and it will finally start. This has happened several times.it will start in the morning when i go to work or take kids to sports practice or their games and when i leave work will not start after 8 hours. After a 1-2 hour game, same thing occurs, it will not start. I have taken it for diagnosis, received code and had it repaired. After a few days, same thing happens.my mechanic can not figure out why this is happening. My traction light has also come on by itself, for no reason. There is no recall for these problems but it should be before innocent people, and families are injured or killed.

Less than a month ago, while driving on interstate 95 in the left lane during rush hour the engine blew on a 2 year old gmc terrain. How this is at all possible i have no clue, but luckily enough i was able to safely coast over to the right shoulder and await for a tow truck. Below is the background information, as well as the headache i have had to undergo since this happened.-1 month prior to the engine being blown i had taken the car in for a 5,000 mile check-up -night before the incident there was a fluttering noise heard from the engine, so planned on taking to sheehan the next morningat approximately 9:30 am on 3/17/2015 was driving on interstate 95 in the left lane during rush hour and the rpms dropped to zero-witness something that looked like oil leaking from the enginewas told to sheehan buick gmc where they looked at it and the next day reported that the engine blew, a rod to the piston snapped and tore a hole through the side of the engine-was told by service manager that when the engine went it "grenade" inside and resulted in longer to fix and replacing more parts like a manifold.-since it was fixed i had no other choice but to take the car backi left the shop and got on interstate 95 for about 10 miles when i noticed the check-engine light onimmediately returned to sheehan and took the loaner back -was told now had to replace the fuel injectors-2 weeks after that week repaid engine light on again for a wire harness.
Vehicle burned a significant amount of oil.parts were replaced under a lawsuit, but nothing was done to fix the problem.it is only a matter of time before it starts happening again.
The rear main seal on the engine blew out while driving due to the pcv system being faulty. My car died in the middle of a busy intersection without warning in 10 degree weather with negative 10 degree windchill, leaving my family and stranded without the ability to even get heat into the car.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle swerved uncontrollably. The contact adjusted the steering wheel and regained control of the vehicle. The contact stated that the stabili-trac, check engine warning light, and brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to autonation buick gmc laurel located at 400 washington blvd, laurel, md 20707, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that an unknown part needed to be repaired however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal noise. He checked the oil and realized it was three quarts low. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they added oil to the vehicle and also replaced the timing belt. Shortly after, the contact discovered that the vehicle still consumed a large amount of oil. The dealer (arnie bauer buick gmc cadillac, 5525 miller cir dr, matteson, il 60443) stated that the contact could bring in the vehicle for an oil consumption test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 114,000.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving, the engine power reduced indicator illuminated and the speed drastically reduced. Taylor chevrolet (734-287-2600, located at 13801 s telegraph rd, taylor, mi 48180) inspected the vehicle and stated that further diagnostic testing was required. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was not available.
I purchased my 2013 gmc terrain on nov 2, 2018.i had the oil changed less than 2 weeks later.on dec 9, 2018, after leaving church, my husband & i stopped at the store.when we got ready to leave, i started my car & it made a loud noise so i turned it off.i tried to crank it again & it would just spin.my husband got out to check the oil & found no oil on the dipstick.it was 2 qrts low.no warning or anything.after having it towed, twice, we are being told it has jumped time.not only would we need to replacing the timing change, but possibly the valves as well.my husband contacted a local dealership & was told, due to complaints, the dealership can replace the motor & gmc will pay them back.however, my car is 1,000 miles over the motor warranty or whatever.they are recommending me get another engine to put it.so, with the engine, plus labor, i am looking at $4.000 i don't have to spend.my 2nd payment just came out of my account for a car i can't drive, nor have the money to fix.the oil level is most likely the cause of the timing chain breaking.obviously gmc knows there's a problem & this needs to be addressed.my car was sold as is, no additional warranty.love the car & would rather have it fixed, but may be letting to go back & go against my credit, because of this.very disappointed gmc.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving low speeds, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was pulled over and was unable to restart. The vehicle was towed to mcdonald gmc cadillac (5155 state st, saginaw, mi 48603, (989) 319-4136), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and was not able to assist. The failure mileage was 62,000.
Using oil in excessive amounts , about 1quart every 1500 miles , car is not telling me when oil is low and then the motor starts to rattle. This has been bad for a long time but now getting worse.
My 2013 gmc terrain died while i was driving down the road, it was found to have excessive oil consumption, none of the warning lights in the car came on not even the oil light to indicate low oil. The car had bad piston rings which was part of the cause. Gm knew about this issue but didn't properly notify everyone involved. I knew nothing about this issue until it happened to me & later received a letter stating my car was inadvertently left out of the initial sca. The fact that these cars die while driving without any warning is extremelydangerous. I have children that were in the car when this happened we are lucky we didn't hit anyone and no one hit us. Gm has been unwilling to help with any of this
The engine stalled out and died. Upon getting new engine the vehicle stalls out intermittently. Changes of solenoid's but problem persists. This can happen when vehicle is stationary or while driving in motion.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the front collision alert sensor illuminated and the vehicle decreased in speed. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who stated that the vehicle was working properly. The failure recurred on several occasions.the failure mileage was 500 and the current mileage was 8,033. Updated 8/22/14
There are several issues with this vehicle which makes me think this car was a lemon, unreported by original owner, or in a flood; 1st, the rear hatch struts were totally rusted out and inoperable (reinforcing my flood thought.) 2nd, the vehicles mpg is nowhere near the advertised 22/32 - i mentioned my concern several times to the service dept, the sales man, and the certified sale manager; their solution - they reset the gauge on the dashboard!3rd, within days of my purchase, i noticed a knock under my car that sounded like an axle was going to bust through my floorboard it was knocking so hard! after numerous service repair attempts & visits back to the dealer, one visit lasting approximately 7 days, they think they've fixed the problem.secondary fuel tank fuel pump module - (contributing to fuel consumption issue?) 4th, the windshield wipers stopped working while i was driving to work, in the fast lane, @ 6am one dark, rainy morning, during a torrential down pour almost causing a major pile up! 5th, check engine light, stumbles and misfires on acceleration, shuts off when stopped at a stop sign or traffic light. Repaired/several hundred dollars later. 6th, the continuing issues have been, but not limited to reduced engine power, rough idle, engine sputters, hesitates, poor gas mileage, & excessive oil consumption. 7th, another check engine light, now fuel-injectors need replaced(another contributor to fuel consumption issue?) . After further review of the vehicle's cpo paperwork, this is not the certified vehicle being referred to on the paperwork. There are items checked off on the report that do not apply to this vehicle.i would have never overpaid for a cpo vehicle had i know their "rigorous standards" meant absolutely nothing! i have bought many cars in my life, both new and used cars and never had any of the issues i am having with this vehicle!
Local mechanic changes oil and realizes no oil leaks and excessive oil consumption. Tells me about the bulletin and sends me to gmc. Call to make appointment since they agree it's under the special coverage. First visit was to change the oil and start the test 9/28/18 100k miles. Second reading was good 10/27/18 101k miles. Next reading it failed at 102k miles on 12/1/18. They gave me description of what was wrong that fit the bulletin and this astronomical price. I informed them i knew about the bulletin and it should be covered. They then looked my vin up and said unfortunately my vin isn't covered even though the year, make, model and motor is the exact as the bulletin. I called gm customer service when my local mechanic told me to on my next oil change with him. 2/28/18 they tell me that the dealership was correct i'm not covered on the special coverage and they aren't sure why. There was nothing else they could do for me. So my motor is noticeably struggling at only 100k miles and there is nothing you can do.
My terrain ran out of oil and had no leaking anywhere.found out from the dealer that these vehicles have a huge problem where they are burning oil internally and need their pistons and rings replaced.had to go in every 500 miles and have them check the oil.it was down every time i went in and they would have to add oil.i thought i was still under warranty and come to find out after finishing the oil consumption testing that i was not.the bill would have been over $5000 of which i am a single mother with a car payment for a car that is now junk.my car eventually died due to the oil problem and other common issues known to gmc.it is not fair
My terrain is using motor oil excessively. After an oil change, i can drive 1000 miles then i start hearing a knocking noise on startup. I have to add motor oil at every fuel fill till my next oil change sometimes one quart and sometimes two or more. I have no leaks. The engine compartment is clean and dry and nothing is wet under the car ever.
The vehicle has a high oil consumption. Every 1k miles it consumes about 1qt. I have to add oil every month. I see a lot of the same complaint over the internet regarding the gmc terrain 2010-2013 with the same problem from factory. Gm released a bulletin but there is no recall. I have to pay fir a factory problem.#13-06-01-003h: excessive oil consumption ' perform oil consumption test and/or install piston and piston ring kit ' (feb 9, 2016)https://gm.oemdtc.com/1893/excessive-oil-consumption-2010-2013-buick-chevrolet-gmc
2013 gmc terrain with 119,000 miles has excessive oil consumption.this was a known issue with gmc, chev and buicks.there was a tsb issued 13-06-01-003f.in 2014, gm was fixing all vehicles under warranty, unfortunately mine did not occure until the warranty expired.i had changed my oil every 5,000 to 7,000 miles using the synthetic blend recommended by the manufacturer.when trying to start my vehicle, all check engine, lights, etc came on and the vehicle went into power shut down mode, which luckily my vehicle wasn't moving.http://gm.oemdtc.com/1893/excessive-oil-consumption-2010-2013-buick-chevrolet-gmc/2
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil and five quarts had to be replaced constantly. The contact spoke with hennessy buick gmc 1 (7261 jonesboro rd, morrow, ga 30260, (844) 240-2177) and was informed that there was no recall on the vehicle. The contact then went to an independent mechanic and had the engine replaced with an engine from another gmc vehicle at the cost of $3,300. The engine failure continued after the replacement. The contact believed that there was a defect with the engine, which was causing an overconsumption of oil. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 130,000.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving 60 mph, the engine stalled and the low oil pressure and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to christenson chevrolet (9700 indianapolis blvd, highland, in 46322, (219) 924-3344) where the timing chain, rear main seal, gasket kit, and thermostat were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,809.
My wife came home from grocery shopping , as we were emptying out the car we noticed a puddle of oil under the car. There was at least a quart of oil on the floor , i looked under the car and could see that it was the rear main seal on the engine. Then i went on the internet and found out that this is a problem on this particular engine of gm , and on most of the cars this happened to gm does not cover it. It ended up costing us $1142.44 to have it fixed. Since then i have twice taken off the intake , pcv tube and cleaned it out and found excessive moisture in them. This engine also has excessive oil consumption , there was a lawsuit against gm about this and our car is getting new rings installed. I'm hoping this will also solve the rear seal problem. This is a 2013 gmc terrain , 2.4 liter engine.
Pcv valve orifice clogged/frozen over.caused pressure in the crankcase while driving on highway, car died at a stoplight.removed engine oil dipstick, released pressure to get vehicle to a shop.mechanic cleaned orifice, drilled orifice to a wider diameter, and cleaned all related engine parts.gm refuses to reimburse even though same engines with different vin are covered under tsb 14882.bill for service attached.
Plugged pcv orifice in intake manifold causing rear main oil seal failure while driving
I was driving when my car started making a noise and vibration. I drove it 3 miles as the vibration and noise was getting worse to the dealership.according to the dealership the engine pcv valve became clogged with sledge or ice and pushed the oil out the rear seal of the engine causing failure. In addition the ecm failed to display a low engine oil warning or a check engine warning. After talking to the mechanic at the dealership and researching on the internet, this is a design flaw for the 2.4 ecotc engine that gm has failed to address and is causingpeople thousands of dollars. My repair will cost $3000.00. Recall 14882
Complaints for my 2013 gmc terrain flex fuel when i was at a stop light with a 4 lane intersection.whenever the light changed the vehicle sputter out or quit when i took my foot off the brake to press the gas pedal.the vehicle behind me almost rear ended the back of my suv.also, having to hold brake and gas pedal at the same time during stops to keep the vehicle from going dead.the first repair was a month ago due to code p0013 and p0014 which my mechanic repaired the camshaft sensor and accelerator sensors. Those were repaired and the check engine light was still on and i returned it back to my mechanic who repaired the sensors again because the parts had a warranty.once again after leaving my mechanics shop the check engine light came right back on after driving 8 miles.also, let me say i do trust my mechanic, as he has worked on my past and current vehicles with no problems.anyway, my mechanic could not get a problem code on the terrain so the next day the vehicle was promptly taken to my local gmc dealership to see if they could diagnose the problem.the mechanic at the gmc dealership stated the vehicle needed a timing chain and gears, which was going to run $1100-$1500 to fix.i don't have that kind of money and vehicle is not covered by a warranty due to the year and mileage.after doing some research on the internet, it seems several consumers are experiencing this same safety issues with the gmc terrains.i have only had my suv for a few months and my dream vehicle has turned into a nightmare.i had three local mechanics within the last month say 'those vehicles are bad to give trouble' and my mechanic stated there has been numerous recalls on the terrains over the years. This is not safe and something needs to be done by the gmc manufacturing company.the check engine light is still on. Thank you
My vehicle currently has approx. 54k miles and i began experiencing serious, dangerous defects with the vehicle on 9/12/2018 when i was backing out a parking stall my car just completely shut off with no warning. I was able to place it in park then restart it and drive about a mile before it shut off again as i was approaching a stop light. I had to coast the car onto a nearby street out of traffic for my and my son's safety. I waited a few moments and was able to restart the engine once more and drove about 2 blocks before it shut off again in the middle of an intersection. I pulled over and called the gm dealer where i purchased it to determine if there had been any recalls or a warranty. I was told i would have to cover towing and diagnostic fees and was not entitled to any type of warranty coverage. I had a test of the battery performed which came back that the battery was not good. I purchased a new battery and had it installed that night. Although, i had a new battery i had another episode of the car shutting off with no warning after trying to back out a parking stall. It will also periodically jerk and hesitate to accelerate at low speeds or when trying to accelerate after coming to a complete stop. On 10/22/18 as i was entering the on ramp to get on the highway in rush hour traffic, the car engine shut off with no warning nor light indicators.i put it in park and was able to restart it so that i can move it to a safe location. The car again would feel jerky at low idle speeds and when i tried to accelerate after coming to a complete stop as i was in bumper to bumper traffic. This has been a dangerous ordeal as a pregnant woman with kids in the car, while on a freeway or road i can easily be hit from behind. My car is only 6 years old with 54k miles on it and should not have such severe defects.
This (normally-garaged, 1-owner, religiously-serviced at dealership) vehicle had sat outside for 38 hours without being started. Vehicle was started in +4 degree f temperature, allowed to warm up, driven 15 minutes on a 2-lane road before stopping at a stop sign. Engine began chugging heavily as it left the stop, attempting to cross 2 lanes of a divided 4-lane highway before turning left in the other 2 lanes of that highway. With engine losing power, driver managed the left turn and pulled off on right shoulder just as engine suddenly died. Just as it died, driver noticed a briefly-lit dashboard indicator signifying something about oil. Vehicle was 3 months past 6-year warranty. It was hauled some 200 miles to the original gm dealer, offloaded in parking lot on sunday eve. Dealer was informed next morning, and later responded that it would need a new engine. Owner visited dealer, noticed vehicle had not been moved since dropping it off, but dealer somehow knew engine status. Manager was surprisingly understanding. Rear seal was blown, likely pcv orifice issue (as in gm tsb 14882). Dealer said gm would pay 45%, tsb 14882 would cover $400+, dealership would pay half the rest. Owner respects/appreciates dealership's cooperation, but remains concerned about potential danger of sudden loss of power while crossing 4 lanes of high-speed traffic. Owner learned about tsb 14882 only after this incident, only via google, prior to visiting dealer. Owner still doesn't know if vin is on the tsb 14882 list, which, if it is, should have led to a preventive fix prior to this incident.
Iā€™ve been having a issue with my oil consumption and display messages about servicing the stabilitrak and traction control. I could be driving and suddenly my engine power is reduced asking with these two messages. I received a letter from gmc about the excessive oil consumption due to degraded catalytic converter and/or oxygen sensor. The one oxygen sensor was replaced beforei received the letter. The letter states i should get the oil consumption diagnosed. Iā€™ve went 4 times now and the oil dipstick smells like gas but the dealership is saying the special coverage has expired. My letter says otherwise. Why send a letter about a possible issue and then not help to fix it?
Iin early 2020 i reached out to 2 different gmc dealerships in regard to the recalls that existed on my vehicle's engine and oil consumption.the vehicle was overconsuming oil (i would track the oil levels) and needed excessive oil changes.the first dealership said that my vehicle didn't qualify for the recall due to mileage when i just received the recall notice.second dealership wouldn't even look at vehicle.a few months later the engine blew, spilling oil everywhere.the engine now needs a total engine replacement.had the dealerships agreed to look at the oil consumption issues the vehicle was having and had knowledge of the gmc recalls on the vehicle, i wouldn't have an inoperable vehicle and needed to purchase a new vehicle due to the engine issues not being covered that were common knowledge on these make/model/year vehicles.i have tried to work with dealerships as well as my the financer of the vehicle, gmc needs to acknowledge this issue and contact me.since the warranty ended on the vehicle the 1st year i owned it, i have put nearly $10,000 into faulty parts and replacements on the vehicle that weren't "covered".i would like this situation investigated due to the safety issues the engine caused that were refused to be looked at and now the negative financial aspect it has caused me.
We bought a 2013 gmc terrain in april 2018 with 129k miles for approximately $15k after tax and title. We had it for about 8 months and were bringing it to a local chevrolet dealership for routine oil changes every 5,000 miles. About 1000 miles before our next oil change in december 2018, we noticed the engine knocking. The dash illuminated the check engine symbol. We connected an obdii reader to the pcm at a nearby part store. The reader displayed the code p0014; which is relative to "camshaft position 'b' timing over-advanced or system performance bank 1". We discovered the code was associated with low engine oil. We checked the oil level and there was no oil on the dip stick. We needed to poor 3 1/4 quarts of oil into the engine. We needed to add approximately 1 quart of oil every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks thereafter. About a month went by, and in january 2019, the dash displayed an engine power loss message and the engine sounded like that of a diesel engine. When the engine was shut off, we noticed the oil had leaked all over the ground. The vehicle was brought to a mechanic who diagnosed it as having a rear main oil seal failure, piston rings were bad, and the timing chain was bad.we called the dealer where it was purchased. They noted the vehicle was no longer under warranty because it has over 135k miles on it and they were unable to compensate for the damage. We called the gm customer service headquarters directly, and they informed us the vehicle was not listed as having any issues or recalls according to the vin.$3500 estimate to fix by private mechanic.vehicle is currently being serviced.
The engine in my 2013 gmc terrain burns excessive amounts of oil.i'm constantly adding oil the the engine.apparently the 'new' engine that was used in this vehicleis not working correctly.i don't have warrant left and i'm going to be stuckwith a blown engine that is clearly the manufacturers error.i will never or will my family ever purchase another gmc vehicle.pure junk!!!!
2013 terrain was in motion and stopped on an il highway in very cold february weather, check engine light came on. Towed to dealership, who states pvc crankcase issue. I investigated and found this issue is listed under bulletin 14882.dealership and gm corporate line claim that the bulletin number does not apply to my vehicle and thus no special coverage available to cover repairs. Repairs are thousands of dollars for a new engine. Many other car owners have had this issue for years per google. The bulletin recognizes the safety risk, yet there appears to be no full on recall for inclusion of additional affected vehicles. Please help. This is unfair to consumers and hazardous to all wintery drivers. Gmc should not be able to claim the bulletin is "vin specific" when the issue arises due to cold weather--which we all know can occur in many places at any time. Thanks,
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, it stalled and was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the timing chain caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
Started my car in the morning before work and it immediately began to shake and knock.message stating reduced engine power noted on control center.vehicle would only go 25 mph.felt like oil was low so attempted to drive to get oil checked and while on the way there the car quit working and i had to coast into a local business parking lot.the engine would not turn over but i still had battery power.had to have my vehicle towed to mechanic who just notified me that my engine was burned up and they had to put 4 quarts of oil in for it to just register on the dipstick.my car was running perfectly fine up until that morning.i get my oil changed as i should.initially thought it was just a blown gasket but it was much worse. I have less than 100,000 miles on this vehicle.
Large consumption of oil and the check engine light stays on have to add oil every week.
During the polar vortex (jan 2019) my main oil seal blew on my 2013 gmc terrain.this was caused by a plugged orifice within the pcv system.this appears to be a design flaw on gm's part that they have recognized and extended special coverage as a result.despite this special coverage existing they state my vin number isn't included.my problem and vehicle meet the requirements for the special coverage exactly and nobody can explain why i'm not included.if you search online there are lots of other gm owners experiencing the same thing.this blown oil seal can result in damage to the engine and loss of power. Had i been on the interstate a serious accident could have occurred.the fact gm knows about the problem and is refusing to address is my issue.special coverage 14882https://gm.oemdtc.com/1899/special-coverage-adjustment-plugged-pcv-orifice-in-intake-manifold-2010-2014-buick-chevrolet-gmci drive a 2013 gmc terrain with 4 cylinder engine.
Excessive oil consumption, my crank shaft broke in half due to my car constantly burning oil & now i need a new engine & it only has 103,000 miles on it
My vehicle began by stalling out when i was in reverse, while driving and would stall out when stopped at a traffic light or stop sign.
Extremely disappointed with my 2013 gmc terrain. It has a 2.4 cylinder engine that consumes too much oil between oil changes. A technical service bulletin was issued by gm for the problem but they have not done a full recall yet. Vehicle was stalling due to low oil issues. Intake solenoid had to be replaced because of low oil levels. Transmission fluid leaked from trans torque converter seal, left rear wheel hub had to be replaced due to bearings going bad all with just 52k miles. The engine specifically in my vehicle is a safety hazard/concern for anyone with a family. My wife is a nanny and does not drive the vehicle aggressively. I had driven this vehicle not very many miles on a new fresh oil change and the next time i went to check my oil the dipstick had no oil on it!! i was furious because there was not a light that indicator that came on in my vehicle to tell me i had low oil or anything!!also have a problem with the loud noise of tires when going down highway .. I did like this vehicle when i first got it but ever since then i have been disappointed in what is going on ..
The oil consumption is horrible.i believe within 2000 miles from 5qt to 2qt.we were on the road and the car kept jerking.
The car consumes oil so much you will stall out due to sensors pressure defect with the exhaust. I have spent so much money trying to fix, keep oil in it. It's not safe. It takes a full quart now every 500 to 700 milesand my car has 116k. It's been doing this for the 2 years i bought it. The stalling out with check engine indicates camshaft sensor but your just low on oil
I left the house and the engine started making loud jack hammer noises, the warning light flashed engine power reduced . The temperature outside was below zerothat day , however, i had no other warning lights on my dash before the engine power reduced light . The engine suddenly became very very loud and stopped functioning.i called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to a local mechanic,i was told that the rear manifold failed and "blew" out of the vehicle . Upon review of the website carcomplainta.com i discovered that for my year, make and model this is a common issue that i was unaware of . There is a gm service bulletin 14882 that covers this issue and that i needed to file a complaint with you . I was told that the entire engine would need to be replaced immediately.i have no way to afford this and if gm is aware of this situation they need to make the needed repairs
My car starting sputtering yesterday morning.by lunch, i was a quart low on oil.i added a quart of oil and made it approximately 20 miles when my car started sputtering again, a dashboard light came on saying engine was slowing down and then it died.when i restarted it, the low oil light was on and it said stop engine now. I called tow truck and had it towed to thompson sales in springfield mo - the official gmc dealer.i was called today and told it was the pcv valve that froze up, causing a back up in pressure, causing the rear main seal to blow.i have been doing research on this today, only to find that apparantly there are many gmc terrains in the 2010-2013 years that have been having the exact same problems.why is there not a recall on this?when i research it myself, i find numerous complaints of the exact same problem.apparantly, gmc issued a service bulletin on this exact problem, but there has been no recall.now, i am looking at having to have a whole new engine put into a car that is only 5 years old.
The car started to "buck" and making a tap tap tap noise like a lifter tapping while driving to work. When i got out of the vehicle, something smelled hot. Checked under the hood and there was nothing wet or steaming. No check lights ever came on. Later at lunch, i left and the tapping noise was louder and the heat gauge increased fast. I stopped at a repair shop. While i waited i checked the oil. There wasn"t any!!! at all. The dipstick was milkey. The oil fill cap was wet inside and milkey. Underneath my car was covered in fresh oil. It was determined to bea busted rear main seal. 4 qts of oil added so i could get home. My mechanic confirmed the diagnosis. He was shocked. He found gm bulletin 14882 online. What is described in that video is exactly what happened. We had a sudden hard freeze x 3 days. The pvs connection at the intake was full of water. When that froze, it blew out the seal. My car has 88,000 miles on it. There are videos after videos online of the same engine doing this exact same thing. I called gm. The best they could do is tell me to report to you.
I have been having oil consumption problems for the 11 months before the engine quit working as soon as i pulled out of a shopping center.i contacted gm to see if anything could be done. I had the car towed to a certified dealer to have them look at it and gm knew i had 124,000 mi on the engine. They still wanted me to bring it to them, for them to let me know they weren't going to help or pick up anything. I owe 9,000 on the car and thats what they want to charge me for a new engine. Tried going to another dealership to try to trade car in and they want me to pay almost 600 a month compared to my 225 now! no help where ever i go...before,i went to dealer and gmi tried to fix it by changing out alternator, spark plugs, new battery and q new timing chain. When, we took top of engine off we found the fourth of july under the hood with roller bearing and rockers exploded everywhere along with the chain guard was wedged between gear and chain.
I was driving my vehicle, heading home on a cold night when the engine light went on, the display said "power reduced to engine", i stopped and the car just shut off. I tried to restart it and it wouldn't turn over. I called for a tow truck and they looked it over the next day and told me that i had dropped all of my oil, with the exception of 1/2 quart, the mechanic then told me that the pcv pipe was plugged and forced a leak and blew causing my car to lose all of it's oil. He is not a gmc dealer so he called the nearest one, mcgrath (formerly bird chevrolet) in dubuque, iowa and they said that that has happened and there was a recall on them and that the car should be towed there for repair. Once the mechanic at mcgrath, (randy) had taken a look at the car and ran my vin # he stated that my car would not be covered, even though this same thing is part of a recall for the same make /model/year of my vehicle. He said that i would have to pay out of pocket for the malfunctioning of this part. So far i have had to pay for emergency towing, towing to the dealer, and diagnostic testing, totaling $350.00 and there's been nothing done yet to my vehicle.
My engine has had severe oil consumption issues. Within 2000 miles it will burn through roughly 4.5 quarts of oil. This has happened on multiple occasions, and i have taken it to the dealership multiple times for this issue.
Driving home from work last night in my car and when i got to my neighborhood, i rolled down the window a tad for some fresh air, and then noticed a weird cranking sound coming from under the hood. I continued home cautiously, noticing at this point that when i would accelerate the car would shake some and the lights would flicker some. I had not noticed anything on the 25 mile drive to work that morning and most of the drive home until slowing down from highway to neighborhood road. When i got to my carport i parked my car and got out, noticing the smell of burning oil. I quickly looked underneath and saw oil spilling, and looked behind my car to see a huge line of oil from where i had come through the neighborhood to the carport. Faint blue smoke was also visible, at this point i shut my car off. There was never a single indication light of any sort at any point in time. I have full service records i have always maintained my car every 5000 miles or less, last time being barely 2 months before this incident, $150 service and full checkup.30 minutes later i came back out to inspect and everywhere on the underside of my car was dripping oil on the ground, a good 7x3 foot area with drips everywhere and main pool near the front. After doing some research i have seen many many claims describing this exact problem with the same year and model as me, as little as 8 days ago posting about it. I have never had any recalls or notices of this problem but i see class action law suites over this oil consumption problem online, however i see also see articles saying how over 41,000 vins were excluded and people are having extreme problems with this situation. Non-personal info as a young man with this being my first major purchase, having maintained my car as required and having paid $10980 i am extremely upset being out of transportation due to mechanical flaw on piston design
All the oil leaked out rear of engine, whilst parked at workplace.crankcase pressure, moisture build up, and/or sludge build up. According to bulletin pip5093a caused by cold temperature, it got down to about17 degrees here in texas. Mechanic says it will cost $1,800.00to repair. Gmc dealer says it's not a recall and is not covered.apparently, a lot of the 2.4l engines in several models have had this same problem happen. Auto has 90,000 miles on it, and i only drive about 10 miles daily.according to gm bulletins this is known to them, as it has occurred numerous times.i believe that gm needs to address this problem and reimburse the owners of these vehicles for these expensive repairs.
Gmc bulletin 14882 special coverage adjustment ' plugged pcv orifice in intake manifoldthis bulletin needs to be extended on my 2013 gmc terrain. My wife was driving home from work in -11 temps and all of a sudden her car started sputtering and making a whining noise. About a mile up the road her car dash reads " critical oil pressure" and the vehicle turns off. My wife was stuck in the freezing cold for over 40 minutes before a tow truck arrived. The vehicle had less than 58,000 miles on it. I had purchased an extended warranty when i purchased the vehicle. My mechanic found that the main seal and pcv system froze up. He mentioned that the same issue that gmc released under bulletin 14882 had happened to my vehicle. I called gm and they told me that it would not be warrantied as it was out of warranty 1 day prior, they also mentioned the bulletin did not apply to my vehicle because my vin did not match the product recall. They recommended that i take the vehicle to a gm dealer to inspect (in which they said i would pay for the diagnostic fee). I told gm (customer care) that the vehicle would need a tow as it wont start and unsafe to run. I ended up paying for a tow to a gm dealership and they looked at the vehicle and verified that cost would be $2200 to make the repairs and verified that the issue is the same as bulletin 14882. I have opened up a case with gm customer care but have gotten nowhere with them on why my vehicle is not added to the 14882 bulletin when their mechanics are saying its the same problem. I have gotten a run around from gm customer care team and an unreturned call from management asking to further discuss the specifics on what meets the bulletin 14882 and why vehicle isn't part of the recall. The gm dealership i took my vehicle too even stated they have worked on 4-5 of the same pcv valve freeze in the last couple weeks. Someone plz help!

The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While the contact's wife was driving 70 mph, the vehicle seized without warning. The contact's wife managed to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle would not restart and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed by state farm to bale chevrolet (13101 chenal pkwy, little rock, ar 72211, (501) 550-4465) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shut-off without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who informed her that the variable valve timing (vvt) solenoid needed to be replaced. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
I bought the vechile in feb. 2016 ran fine. In june of 2016. The vechile started acting like it had water in the gas hesitateing stalling and the radio and touch screen don't work took it to a dealer and he said had ater in fuel put i a new senors. But still doing the same thing stalling when coming to stop signs hesitates not going into to gear took it to gm dealer in new richmond and they hook up to a computer said nothing wrong when vechile dose it again bring it in don't turn it off thats hard to do because you have to start it up again to drive it their know today the radio is off and touchscreen don't come on i am just scared because we take our son to rochester three days a week for therpy help
The car started making a loud noise wouldnt go foward got it towed to the gmc dealer they stated that the car transfer case was damaged. Need a transfer case cost under $3000 the car only has 79,500 miles i bought it 2 years ago , had multiple issues like i had to do oil consuption test , had to replace water pump too many issues.
My car is consuming oil faster than normal.my car was rattling and i took it to my mechanic, he said the gmc terrains and chevy equinox is consuming more oil than normal. My oil indicator said the oil was fine, but he said the oil was very low. He told me to check the oil every three to four weeks. He also gave me two extra quarts of oil. I have noticed that my car needs an oil change quite often. When i was driving my car, the car was rattling and was lurching foward at a stop light,i thought it was the transmission, but it is the oil being consumed at a higher rate than normal.
The vehicle dies while riding down the road it consumed 3 quarts of oil in 1 week. There is also a class action lawsuit in affect right now. And i tried to go through warranty but they will not cover it.
While in motion the car is randomly shutting off the engine while in motion on a city street but will immediately start back up once turning the ignition back on. This issue also caused my check engine light to come on and after doing a dianostics it turns out that the intake valve solenoid that went bad. After reaching out to several mechanics and gmc dealers they've told me that this is a common issue with my car type. Another issue they mentioned is that if you replace one and not the other, more than likely the issue will occur again.
1. Engine burning oil, had to be replaced at 100,000 miles. In repair shop again, oil coming out of exhaust??2. Car would stall out while driving, try to accelerate at a red light, almost crashed a few times. Back window has been covered in oil from exhaust. Couldn't see. 3. Only used white plains buick/gmc for repairs. Car is there now. 4. Nys dmv is currently investigating5. Check engine light just recently came on
In august, 2019 i had the oil changed and when i wen to leave the parking lot and put the car in reverse the car sputtered and the engine stalled. This happened several times. I then brought it to a dealership. They replaced the timing chains and actuators ($1,416.60). Two days ago there was a ticking sound and then while i was in gear(drive) waiting for the garage to open, the car started trying to "buck" forward while i had my foot on the brake. I called the dealership and was told that this model with lots of miles (under 70,000) tend to burn oil. I added a significant amount of oil (none on dip stick) and now the vehicle is running fine. Why is this car burning so much oil? i have never had a car burn oil and to be told by a dealership after it was supposedly fixed that burning oil is normal is disturbing as is the unreliability of the car. Will it buck again or die again?
The engine is consuming oil at an excessive rate.
In january 2018 i had noticed at drive thrus that i could hear a knocking sound coming from my 2013 gmc terrian.one day i was driving home on the highway and when i got to the stop light i noticed the sound got very loud and once the light turned green the car would not go. After shutting it off an turning it back on, i was able to get it to a gas station, where oil was leaking everywhere. It was towed to a gmc dealer and they told me the timing chain had broke and i had to buy a brand new engine for a car that was 5 years old and had 106,000 miles.there was a recall that took over a year for me to be declined for which was the piston ring and now there is another one for the catalytic converter that poage is telling me i am denied for.how can there be 2 different recalls that effect the engine, but i do not qualify for either one of them.to spend $5307.00 on an engine for what is obviously a defect is insane.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving 40-50 mph, the vehicle decelerated and stopped in the middle of the street. The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The contact placed the vehicle into neutral, restarted the vehicle, and drove safely; however, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was driven to heritage buick (930 east interstate hwy 30, rockwall, tx 75087, (972) 807-0165) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 148,000.
Cracked exhaust manifold which damaged oxygen sensor. Replaced by midas @ 132,863 miles 11/14/2017 total cost $664.39
Consuming too much oil between oil changes and no indication light comes on to inform me of low oil levels
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 55 mph, a sound was heard from the engine compartment and the engine shut down. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and towed to bees chevrolet (2100 old us 27, st. Johns, mi, 48879, 989-224-2345) where it was diagnosed that the pvc froze and caused the rear crankshaft seal to blow. The technician recommended and replaced the engine. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was 90,000.
I began driving my 2013 gmc terrain down the street and my car began to feel as if it was going to stall. Then the check engine light came on & a few minutes later, the engine blew with 126,000 miles on the car. Prior to this day, the car had been operating without any issues and no warning lights had come on. The mechanic said that the timing chain had broken & there was no oil in the engine. I bought this car new & was the only owner & religiously changed my oil every 5,000 miles & was not yet due for an oil change. Since this has happened, i discovered that there have been several complaints about this vehicle in regard to oil consumption issues & there has not been a recall issued. This poses a serious safety concern especially considering an oil warning light never came on nor, did any warning lights until immediately prior to the engine blowing.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced excessive oil consumption. During an oil change, the technician diagnosed that the oil was a quart and a half low. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a technician performed an oil consumption test. The technician stated that it was within normal operating range. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,155.
While exiting off a highway, the car stalled, it was only 2* fahrenheit. It started again, but the engine ran rough. Upon getting to the destination, there was oil under the vehicle. It was towed to a mechanic, and he determined that the rear main seal failed. He investigated possible causes, and came up with a gm service bulletin # 14882. The pvc system froze, causing the seal to fail. I've called gm numerous times and on all occasions i was told "your vin number isn't covered by that service bulletin"
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving 30 mph, the engine made an abnormal noise and smoke emitted from the exhaust without warning. The engine began to stall and the contact pulled over and attempted to place oil in the vehicle; however, the oil leaked out. The vehicle was towed to steven lust automotive (1314 6th ave sw, aberdeen, sd 57401, (605) 277-4261) where it was diagnosed that the pcv valve was faulty. The contact stated that there was an unknown manufacturer recall that was placed on her year, make, and model vehicle; however, the vin was excluded. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the mechanic that the contact's vin was not included in the manufacturer recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 61,067.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to tawes brothers buick gmc (4090 crisfield hwy, crisfield, md 21817 410-968-0606) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the sound coming from the engine was due to oil consumption. The vehicle received an oil change however, a week later the rattling sound returned. The contact was informed to monitor the oil level to prevent engine damage from low oil level. The vehicle was repaired previously. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 172,000.consumer stated vehicle cuts off continously at a red light or stop sign.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While the vehicle was at a fuel station, a rattling noise was heard from the engine compartment. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who determined that there was a timing chain failure and recommended taking the vehicle to a dealer. The vehicle was taken to perrysburg auto mall (26875 n dixie highway, perrysburg, oh 43551) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain, piston rings, cams, and water pump failed and neededreplacement. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
I took vehicle in for a known oil consumption issue. The dealer check my oil and confirmed no active leaks. The next day a large oil leak appeared. The proximity of the two were purely coincidence. The dealer, after further review, uncovered a rear main seal failure due to a frozen pcv. This issue is documented in tsb 14882 however my vehicle's vin is specifically excluded. Again my vehicle meets all of the requirements of tsb 14882. I am specifically looking to have the tsb expanded to include my vehicle and other similar vehicles.
The vehicle consumes oil at a rate much higher than "normal".between manufactures recommended oil change interval the vehicle will consume 40-50% of the engines oil capacity.this is determined to not be out of specification in regards to issued service bulletins for the vehicle, but is not "normal" or stated as operating as designed by the gmc operation manual/documentation.there have been other performance and reliability issues with the vehicle related to ignition and timing whereas the vehicle will not run/start/or stalls(camshaft position sensor issues).service bulletins on the same vehicle indicated excessive wear on timing chain assemblies(which can lead to timing issues) as a result of the excessive oil consumption.upon taking the vehicle to the dealer and undergoing multiple oil consumption tests which revealed oil usage at a rate of .4 - .5 quarts per 1,500 miles, it was determined the vehicle does not qualify for coverage under the issued service bulletin.
Excessive oil consumption noted after oil change.class action lawsuit recieved earlier this year proves that there is an issue with vehicle.
Uses a minimum of 3 quarts of oil every 3000 milesbrought it in to see if there was a bulletin or warranty and was told by gm dealer they had no notice of this happening on this vehicle
Out of nowhere my car just died when i got to work, and then again twice on my way home.i took it to get tested the next day and was told it was the timing chain.i drove it 3 blocks to a dealership, and on the way the engine light came on and heard a loud noise.prior to this, no indicator lights of any kind came on, no strange noises, no warning whatsoever.diagnosis was that i needed a new engine.with only 92,000 miles on vehicle, my engine is now ruined (with no warning at all), and i have to come up with thousands of dollars to fix it. How has this not been a recall situation at this point given all of the complaints for the same thing - sudden engine issues resulting in engine replacement with less than 100,000 miles.gm please do something to make this right.
The contact owned a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated while attempting to park in a parking lot at 5 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated. As a result, the vehicle ran into a pole. The air bags did deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained some bruising and swelling on her face and left arm and the passenger sustained a bruised knee. No medical attention was required. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. An unknown dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not under any recall. The contact was relating the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000.
Car excessively burns oil, oil warning light does not work or come on, engine will stall while driving & my engine blew because i had no idea it was burning oil till it was too late
4 cylinder engine - oil consumption per 1000 miles driven 2.7 quarts.
The vehicle has symptoms of #13-06-01-003h: excessive oil consumption ' perform oil consumption test and/or install piston and piston ring kit ' (feb 9, 2016)the test states the following:if the oil consumption test indicates that the rate of consumption is greater than 1 quart (0.946 l) of oil every 2,000 miles (3,200 km), note the oil consumption rate, the date that the ecm was reprogrammed and any repairs/diagnosis that you have performed.the last time i checked, i was down almost 2 quarts from 5 around 5000 milesthis may not qualify, but is certainly not correct.
11/9/2020 the engine light came on and the car randomly died so i had to have it towed to the dealership. They replaced both intake and cam sol valves , replaced the exhaust manifold, both ho2 sensors, heat shield, cat converter and high pressure fuel pump. This was all done at 121617 miles. Had no issues until 125,400 on 2/3/2021 the car randomly died while driving but i made it to work. On the way to get it checked out it made a loud noise and died resulting in being pulled out of the street and to the shop. They informed me that the timing chain came apart and the engine now needs to be replaced. It's 400 miles out of the extended warranty and the repairs in november totaled $3023.17 of which i had to pay $1,100 and now the car is inoperable and they want $7000 to install a new engine. I have found since this happened that this is a common problem that gm is aware of with the 4 cylinder engine. I kept up with oil changes and used synthetic oil
While driving home i stopped at a traffic light and noticed a knocking sound in low rpm range. I continued the remaining 1 mile home. When i got home and out of the vehicle i could smell burning oil. I looked under the vehicle and there was a puddle of oil on the ground as well as lots of oil dripping from the vehicle. After having a gm technician diagnose the issue, it was determined that the pcv value had clogged/frozen causing increased pressure in the crankcase and blowing out the rear main oil seal. This is the same problem that was stated in a service bulletin (sb-10057977-8108) that gm has out. My vin number is not covered with this bulletin for some reason, but this is a common problem with this drivetrain. The service bulletin (sb-10057977-8108) should be expanded to cover all vehicles with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. My vehicle is just 2 months out of warranty and gm is only offering to cover 30% of the repair cost. This is a common problem and needs to be resolved.
My vehicle is using oil. I am adding 4-6 quarts between oil changes. It is not leaking out anywhere. I have taken it to the shop multiple times and they cannot find a leak. Sometimes the engine feels like it shakes when i crank the vehicle or when i shut the engine if. There seems to also be less power.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated while stopped on an incline and pressure was released from the brake, the vehicle rolled backward and the engine stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who could not diagnose the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 14,945.
My vehicle eats up oil. I just recently found out about the excessive oil consumption investigation. My check engine light has been coming on. Sometimes when i fill it with gas it goes off. A week ago it came on and then as i was driving down a busy street my traction control light came on, then a message on the display saying service stabilitrack and engine power is reduced. I couldn't go over 35mph.i took it to oreily the following morning and the code p0175 showed 'fuel system too rich'. I found a recall of an o2 sensor. I couldn't get into a gm shop for another week. Today they fixed the recall but told me the special coverage adjustment for the oil consumption was expired in 7/2020 for my vehicle. I chatted with gm online and they didn't answer all my questions. Even though i found the info on this here website about the investigation and the time limit and mileage on when i could get this problem fixed, gm would not explain in detail to clarify this info. It said 7 years and 6mos or 120k miles from when the vehicle was placed in service. They said third party sites like these aren't reliable. The shop mentioned i should just keep oil in it and that getting the pistons fixed would be $5k. My extended warranty does not cover and i was never notified about the investigation otherwise i would've never gotten the vehicle or at least got it fixed in said time limit.
I bought my 2013 gmc terrain new in december of 2012.noticed the engine making noise 10/20/18, mileage: 74,052needed an emergency oil change, no oil.again on 1/18/19, mileage: 78,759 engine making noise, checked oil and again no oil.got an oil change.5/2/19, mileage: 83,055 engine making noise, checked oil and again no oil.got an oil change.on 6/16/19, mileage: 84,577the check engine light came on.checked oil, again no oil. Went to the dealership.was told (***for the first time) "that the gmc terrains are known for burning oil."i asked if there was a recall, was told no.service manager told me it's a $3500 job to replace the pistons and the seals because they are deep in the engine.he had a mechanic add 2 quarts of oil.i asked if the check engine light had to be reset or if it would go off and was told it probably would go off.then he sent me on my way.got a second opinion from another mechanic and was told to diligently check the oil and keep oil in it and it will run fine.three days later my check engine light is still on.the oil is very dirty and it shouldn't be., something is wrong!!!this issue really needs to be addressed with gm.something needs to be done about this problem as i'm not the only one having it!
I took my vechile for a recall, and they found it also had a cracked exhaust manifold. After researching on the internet i found that this is a very common problem with the gm 2.4 engine. Why hasn't a recall been issued for this problem, i would call this a serious safety issue as exhaust gasses can enter the vechile from the crack.
Driving on a city street when the vehicle oil light came on, then it proceeded to tell me to turn off the vehicle, which i did and turn it back on.the engine revved up and started to spurt until i made it home.later found out that the issue i was having was part of recall 14882, but my vin is not included on the list to be repaired.
I had complete engine failure because of the timing chain breaking twice for this issue. It has stranded me and hundreds of others on the side of the road while driving. There is a facebook page for it and hundreds of people say the same thing and how dangerous this is.theres no warning, just dies on the road.
While driving the crash light and signal came on and the truck slowed down this happen about 6 times since i bough the truck in july 2013.
We have a 2013 terrain that was repaired for excessive oil consumption (n192291100). Since that time, the vehicle has been experiencing catalytic converter/o2 sensor issues (n192287100), however gm says our vehicle doesnā€™t qualify for the converter/o2 special coverage adjustment because itā€™s not an affected vin.i donā€™t understand how it would have undergone the initial sca repairs, but then the new sca doesnā€™t apply to it? the new one is a direct result of the first. The customer service reps i spoke with at gm couldnā€™t answer this question or provide me a way to go up the chain to get an answer. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.
2013 terrain started shaking while my 16 year old daughter was driving it on the highway. She brought it home and parked it. Then it started leaking oil. On 2/15/21, we hadthe terrain towed to the local gm dealership. Service manager, fred, said the rearmain seal blew out caused from too much pressure due to frozen/plugged pcv. Gm service bulletin 14882 describes this issue. On 2/19/21 at 3:15pm, fredstated on a recorded call with me and gm customer service that the terrain's 'problems are exactly as described in the bulletin' but gm refuses to cover the cost to repair my 2013 terrain with 99,500 miles. Gm first agreed to pay $500 toward the cost of the repair, but has since reduced the amount to $200. This is a gm design flaw that causes engine damage. Gm customers should not be responsible for paying for a repair caused by the negligence of the manufacturer.
08/17 check engine light came on, took vehicle to a mechanic, he plugged in the computer to assess the code which was p420 after assessing my terrain he decide that there was not an issue with the converter and reset the computer, told me if the check engine light came on again to bring it back. For the past year i have noticed that i had to add 1 to 2 quarts of oil in between oil changes. I made a right turn and went to excelerate up a small incline and my dash went completely black and my vehicle shut off and started rolling backwards. I applied the break, turned the key off and attempted to restart my terrain and it would not start. I had to have the vehicle towed home. The next day our mechanic came by our home to look over my vehicle, when the computer was plugged in numerous codes were listed. At that time our mechanic informed us that the motor needed to be replaced. I started to do research and found that this issue is known by gm. I contact gm customer service and was told that my vehicle is outside of the parameters that gm is willing to cover. After additional research found that there is a class action lawsuit for this exact issue with equinoxes and terrains. Called the dealership where we purchased our terrain and was referred back to gm customer service, so i called gm customer service again, the representive was very rude and again informed me that i would have to pay out of pocket to repair my vehicle or i could file a complaint with the nhtsa.i have contacted gm customer service 2 additional times as well as the dealership with no luck of a resolution and gm acknowledging that my vehicle would have been included in the "special warranty" however i am outside the 120,000 miles, per the gm representative i have to pay out ofpocket to repair or replace my vehicle as they are not responsible due to my current mileage.
Rear main seal failed due to clogged pcv valve.one day the car seamed fine, no visable oil leaks, the next day, daughter backed out of driveway and there was a large puddle of oil under her vehicle. She didn't see the puddle, all the oil leaked out of the vehicle, no engine light came on, had to have it towed to shop, $1200 estimate to repair.this is a known issue with gm.
Car has started excessively using oil and ringing sound from engine. Roaring sound when it starts. I purchased car sept '17, with 125k miles.received a letter today may 8, 2020 saying this is an issue. Called gm says this service warranty has expired, but i just received letter today. Says previous owner probably received letter but that doesn't help current owner. I had previously visited a gm dealer 3 times and this was never mentioned to me. I want my repairs covered because someone dropped the ball and it wasn't me.it is not fair that i wasn't notified sooner i would have brought it in to be checked.
I was driving the vehicle under normal circumstances when i tried to accelerate i felt the engine hesitate and then completely shut down.message on my display said "engine power reduced" and i basically had a few seconds to merge over to the right lane and get out of traffic.had the vehicle towed to local gmc dealer.
2013 gmc terrain is burning excessive oil right after oil change while driving.
Potential oil consumption issues.in may 2018 noticed a knocking/rattling in engine while accelerating at slow speeds.noise grew louder and more consistent over the next few weeks.on board computer stated remaining oil live was over 30%, however no oil registered on dipstick.add oil and noise stopped.i scheduled an appointment (june) with the dealer to have the issue investigated.they told me if it occurs again, not to add oil, rather bring it in for a consumption test.they did not tell me how low my oil level was.november 2018 the noise returned.immediately took vehicle to dealer for recommended oil consumption test.inform by dealer that vehicle was no, longer covered by any warranty, they could not do the test.oil changed (even though on board computer stated 48% oil life remaining).reading other reports regarding this potential issue, wanted to add one more.
Gmc 2013 terrain. Faulty engine make. Causing excessive oil consumption. Never alerted by any warning lights. Safety concern of engine possibly dying at any moment. Gmc not willing to cover repair costs, even though there was a settlement reached, and they admitted over 40,000 customers not notified of engine issue. Please help!
It using oil majorly.fear of engine going bad while driving.
Showed stability track. I was driving on the highway when it showed service stability trak then engine power reduced. It took my speed from a 65 to 35 in an instant causing me to almost crash. Then the car started to jerk as i tried to drive to find somewhere safe.
My family and i were driving back home from montgomery al and our gmc terrain sle 2013 suddenly just turned off. We had to have it towed home and after our mechanic looked over the car he came to the conclusion that it was the timing chain and do to the type of engine it would have damaged values and possibly the heads and that it would be better to replace the whole engine. After doing my own research i found out that this is a known issue with the gmc terrain 2.4l 4cly engine timing chain breaking. My family could have been in a serious accident driving down 167 to enterprise al, we could have lost our lives being rear-ended by a semi. I can't believe gm would make a vehicle with this defect and not put out a recall for the timing chain, is completely unacceptable and disrespectful to the consumer. Not only did i buy this vehicle because it was a gm product 'being a true gm fan believing in a quality product' but now losing faith in gm for making such a poor quality suv.
I bought the car used in may 6 months ago and it has excessive oil consumption more than one quart in 1000 miles. There is no warning light just started tapping in the engine. Gmc knows about this it needs to be addressed. I can't afford to replace or rebuild the engine right after i bought the car. Because of a known issue.
My year make and model with the same 2.4l engine was subject to a recall/ service bulletin #14882 which pertained to a plugged pcv orifice in the intake manifold which resulted in blowing out the rear main crankshaft seal which could result in engine failure and a warning that the spaying oil can result in loss of vehicle control.a mechanic confirmed that this was the problem i have, yet gm will not cover the repairs as they said my specific vin was not covered.the vehicle has low mileage and i think it is outrageous that gm will not stand behind their product.the repairs will be very expensive.
I have a 2013 gmc terrain. I bought it used in 2014. It had one previous owner. When i bought this car, i didn't notice the abnormal noise it makes. While the car is either in driver or reverse, it makes a weird ticking noise coming from under the front hood. The noise goes away in park. However, the noise can only be heard when the car idols at a certain rpm. The car makes a rattle like sound when the rpms are low, like between 500 to 1500. For example: when i'm cruising down town at speeds of about 25-45mph, i can here the rattle sound. When i back into my garage, the noise can be heard even louder because the garage amplifies the sound. When i use cruise control to accelerate, it does not make this noise. Only when i put my foot on the gas pedal. When i take my food off the gas, or speed up, the sound goes away. It's not a low oil tick sound. It's a little different, like something is loose and rattling. This noise has always been there but it took me a while to realize it.
I have to check and add oil to my 2013 gmc terrain every single time i get gas. This is a huge hazard, because when it is low, the oil light does not illuminate. I am worried for mine and my daughters safety that i will get stranded on the road.
Started having a noise both cold and hot, had it inspected to find out the exchaust manifold is cracked broken in several areas and exchaust flex pipe is bad. Car has just over 100000 miles on it. These are around the area of the catalytic converts. Gm says not under warranty i have been told this is a common problem with all 2.4 4 cylinder
My 2.4 engine has an excessive oil consumption issue. I have to add oil to keep it from blowing the engine. I am the original owner of this vehicle.
We have the 2.4l exotec engine, pcv freezes up, blows out rear main seal, burns excessive oil, bought new, 9/2013?called my local gmc dealer, sells only gmc's since 1954, service dept. Said, they had never heard of the problem, liars!we went to a 2nd gmc dealer, service manager said, vin is not in recall?he wanted $3100. To do a band aid fix?the best solution for an owner of these pos, is to trade it in, while it's still running, let the gm dealer, take the hit!it's there own fault!won't be buying american next time!sad !!!
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they stated that they were aware of the failure. The technician stated that the positive crankcase ventilation hole in the intake manifold was too smalland needed to be replaced. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and that there was no recall. The contact was informed to call nhtsa. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,700.consumer stated managed to restart the motor and pulled into parking lot. I checked the car over and found oil om the ground under the car and a trail of oil coming into the parking lot. Consumer was told by a mechanic these vehicles have this problem.'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
Car makes terrible engine noise when starting/as it idles. This is almost always due to low oil.this car burns through oil faster than anything ive ever seen. Even with full synthetic oil i have to add at least quart every 700 miles for so. Keeping the oil level up helps obv, however this problem was going on for some time before i figured out the car was consuming oil at a super fast rate. So who knows what damage may be inside the engine at this point. It has been reported that there is an issue with the timing chain on the i4 engines and they burn oil because the timing is off. However gm's only fix thus far is to run an oil study which takes up a lot of time.this is also huge pain when dealing with any dealer, because only a gm dealer can run the test, and even if it is found that your car is burning oil they will determine it as "normal" if it's not a specific rate. There's no way full synthetic should be burning up this quickly. Gm needs to do a recall for this issue but will not because once they truly fix the issue it will open up a can of worms that would cost them thousands. So instead the cost is passed on to the owner. If they do offer a fix after the oil study it's only for a piston ring kit which does not actually fix the problem of the bad timing chain. So far the only relief i have found is to turn the eco mode off. This gives a little relief to the constant filling of oil. Other than that if the car is low on oil you will feel a chugging/ jerking of the car, particularly at a stop or low idle. I love the look of gmc's however i don't think i can ever buy one again after dealing with an issue like this and having gm not recall a widely know issue.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While the vehicle was stopped in the drive gear, it shut off and then restarted without warning. In addition, when the key was released from the ignition, the vehicle moved. Furthermore, the check engine indicator illuminated and the transmission control module and torque converter warning messages were displayed. The vehicle was taken to williams buick gmc (8201 south blvd, charlotte, nc 28273, (704) 697-1600), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 136,059.
2.4 ecotec engine burning oil. Had oil change done within less a month, have 2,000 mile to go before next oil change and vehicle was saying 51% oil life left. The vehicle start knocking, took it tomechanic to have look at and it was 3quarts down and i just had an oil change done 5weeks ago from this date 09/09/19.mechanic said i was lucky that i caught when i did or the engine when have gone.
Rear engine seal blew according to bulletin 14882 march 2015 caused by a frozen pcv valve. Purchased the vehicle used from a gm dealership as a good used suv. When reporting the problem, they said there was no bulletin, changed their mind, but said vin disqualified it for repairs and said i had bad luck vehicle is unusable as it blows oil thru the seal when in operation
Car is not reading the correct amount of oil in suv. Suv started to run badly then timing went out. Now i need a new engine and im still paying a car note. No one is willing to fix this issue.
Driving my 2013 gmc terrein (2.4l) it was about 20 degrees out, a warning light came on that oil pressure is low "stop engine immediately. I pulled over at a gas station and as got out of the car i could see a oil spilling from below the engine. I had it towed to my mechanic and he said it had a a rear crankshaft seal oil leak. I had received an extended warranty bulletin 14882 which gmc recognize the issue. This special coverage covers the condition (2010-2013 gmc terrain vehicles equipped with a 2.4l engine (laf, lea or luk) that have experienced high oil consumption may also experience a frozen and/or plugged pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) system during cold weather operation. This condition may increase crankcase pressure leading to a rear crankshaft seal oil leak) for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. My car is a 2013 gmc terrain with 119,000 mile and should qualify for the extended warranty. I called the gmc customer service and i was told that my vin doesn't qualify and the dealer is asking for $3500 for repairs. My mechanic did the repairs for $1500 but gmc will not reimburse.
2013 gmc terrain with 72k miles (about 5.5 years old at the time).in frigid temperatures (-15 degrees fahrenheit), the vehicle rpms started fluctuating wildly while in idle, and would shut off entirely.the pcv port froze and lead to blowing out the rear main seal.dealership told me it was not under warranty (despite the existing power train warranty and service bulletin 14882).also the exhaust manifold was cracked (which should have been covered by the emissions warranty).total repair was $2,800.
While driving on the highway, in the rear view mirror, i noticed a cloud of smoke. The vehicle then proceeded to lose acceleration, so i pulled over.let me note that there was no previous warning light and that the oil was just changed at the end of dec. 2019 (receipt available). Upon pulling over, the car flashed "oil pressure low - stop engine". The temperature outside was 13 andmy two children where in the car;4 and 2.not ideal conditions for the car to stop!!!.the car was towed to my home, by my insurance company.upon examination, it was discovered that a rod went through the engine block.there was oil everywhere!! it was all over my driveway, (another note - this is the first time i have ever seen oil on my driveway from this vehicle), all over the back of my vehicle, and all over the underneath of the car.the next 24 hours we worked on finding a new engine. However, when i arrived home, there was a letter in the mail . Claim number 1900010 - berman et al v. Gm. The claim stated that gm was to cover all expenses for repairs with a 2.4l engine, exhibiting engine oil consumption, due to piston ring wear. So the vehicle was then taken to a gm dealer; because the issue with the rod was determined by a jammed piston/lack of oil. After review, the dealer stated that the piston ring did not cause the rod to break. That the rear main seal went out. In one minute, no warning, the car that i have only had for three years and still owe on, blew! according to my research, there was a gm service bulletin 14482 in march 2015 for the exact same issue.i purchased my vehicle in feb of 2017, clearly no idea.i think this is absolute bs that gm is not held accountable to repair all know issues in these vehicles! people spend their hard earned money and put their families in them with the expectations that they are purchasing a solid, safe vehicle!
Purchased car used from gmc dealer 88,706 miles. 1 previous owner thta purchased from gm dealer new,i purchased extra 100,000 warranty in addition.i drive about 10 miles total a day about 3 days a week to work, so i have not put many miles on it.30 days after purchase when driving home from work got to driveway, car dumped large quantities of oil on driveway.no warning lights ever came on to indicate a problem.diagnostics should have indicated pressure build-up.car had hesitated a bit at the last stoplight before my house on the way home but not bad and only one time.oil all over underside of vehicle.towed to dealer, gm knows of the issue but my vin is not on "the list" for the "service adjustment" not a recall but it should be..nobody can say why.will cover part but not all of the damage despite this being the result of a really poor engine design that is a "high oil consumption" vehicle.is this the 70s?that should not even be a thing in 2019. The oil sludge in engine caused the pcv to freeze up in the cold temps and it blew out the rear main seal for the engine.they want $1300 from me to fix and gm is covering part of the cost.but if it is a design flaw and they knew about it, they should have fixed it before they sold it.extended warranty will not cover this because they do not include the pcv.likely will not ever cover anything with the engine since it is a design flaw and those are by definition pre-existing and high oil consumption that is not coming out on the ground is fouling up something.so my first payment is not even due yet and i already owe money to someone else and it is significant money that will not be easy to pay.if this had happened on the highway, i would have lost use of the vehicle at high speed and would likely have caused a crash.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving 35 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle began to hesitate and the contact smelled a burning odor coming from the engine. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. When the contact pulled over, turned off, and restarted the vehicle, it resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to phillips chevrolet of lansing (located at 17730 torrence ave, lansing, il 60438, (708) 474-0000) where it was diagnosed that 75% of the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 70,488.'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
Pcv valve froze causing rear crankshaft seal to fail.engine needed to ne replaced.gm won't honor sb 14882.car started to run sluggish in cold weather.stalled and restarted. Parked in driveway overnight in 6 degree weather.would not start.oil qall over driveway.
The stability track gave an error and the engine now slow. The error doesn't let the vehicle to accelerate. The check engine light also went on.

I have had the passenger side headlight replaced by the dealer two times.it has been shorting out and come to find out the plug that the bulb connects to has been broken and no one fixed the issue. Also i had my front axle'shaving issues.

The engine is consuming oil at an excessive rate.
We live in california and the carb fuel pump nozzles are cumbersome beasts. But the nozzle pops out of the fuel filler when placed on auto-fill at 4 out of 5 gas stations. It's dangerous when it pops out and falls on the ground sometimes pumping gas all over. I took the terrain to the dealer and of cource they can't find anything wrong with it. What gives and what's the fix?
My car began making odd knocking sounds and since it was due for an oil change, i made an appointment. The day of the appointment, as i was driving down a busy street and the car locked up and quit. I pulled into a driveway and called aaa. I tried turning the vehicle on a couple of times and it made a significantly loud noise that was concerning. After a mechanic assessed what was wrong, it was determined that the timing chain needed to be replaced and the car was nearly out of oil, even though it had not been 3,000 miles since the last oil change. The repair cost over $2,000.
Engine power reduced light came on and there is rattling noise under the hood.we pulled out of a drive thru into oncoming traffic when this all started.
The rear main seal on the engine blew out while driving due to the pcv system being faulty. My car died in the middle of a busy intersection without warning in 10 degree weather with negative 10 degree windchill, leaving my family and stranded without the ability to even get heat into the car.
When the gmc terrain is first started in the mornings the vehicle "misses" for about 5 seconds.it sounds like there is condensation in the fuel line. After about 5 seconds the vehicle smoothes out and runs normal.this happens almost each andevery morning.it does not happen any other time.
I was about to switch lanes on highway from on ramp travelling aprpox 60 mph and accelerating when my vehicle suddeling stopped accelerating & someone pulled up on my side to inform me i was leaking fuel everywhere.i lost nearly a full tank of gas on the highway.one of the men who stopped had worked on gm vehicles in the past and was able to clip something together to slow the leak.i drove to the dealership and they were no help and didn't seem to care about the issue or how serious this was for a 2 year old car with 37k miles.i was told i was out of warranty and they would not do anything for me and were going to charge me a $200 diagnostic fee.disappointed by the poor service i received i took the car to my local mechanic who works on our other vehicle.they were shocked to see a fuel line on a 2013 vehicle break.they ordered the replacement fuel line from gm and i got my car back on 5 days later.the next day i took my car out to run errands and when returning to the vehicle i noticed a strong smell of gas, upon looking under the car i noticed that the fuel line was still leaking and from the same place!we brought the vehicle back to the shop and they immediately go in touch with gm who sent out another replacement part and also recommended also replacing the metal line as they had been seeing some issues with this line.under the recommendation of gm the shop replaced both lines and i got my car back 3 days later. The problems i have experienced are unacceptable and could be very dangerous.fortunately no one was hurt but had i been in the high speed lane and traveling at full speed limit when this happen i or someone else could have been seriously injured by this issue.given the age of the car and low mileage this is not a wear and tear issue, this is 100% a defective part or mfg problem that i expect gm to reimburse $670 for repair.
Road dirt, snow, mud accumulates at inside bottoms of doors all the way up to bottom of speaker areas. I can see where it is pulling down the bottom panels. Called dealer and asked for gm info on this and nothing back from dealer. Also 2 weeks ago engine lite came on, took to local dealer for replacement of gasoline sensor? at 10,000 miles? asked if i used corn gas? no, i use plus or premium. Does this happen every 10,000 miles? also i am concerned i will have rust on my doors very soon.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 30 mph, the contact noticed a fuel odor. The contact also noticed that the fuel gauge was lowering. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed a puddle underneath. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.updated 09/27/16*lj
The engine is consuming oil at an excessive rate.
I notice my car was jerking a little so i took it to the dealer to see what the problem was, the service guy told me i need my air induction clean (cost will be over $200), this cleaning has something to do with my transmission. I have only had my vehicle for a year and the transmission needs cleaning, really. Should this be covered on warranty. A couple of days later, i received a letter in the mail stating a recall on vehicle with e85 fuel system, so call the nearest dealer and see if my vehicle is cover. My question is: does the e85 have anything to do theair induction system.
Gm has been unwilling to help with any of this
My vehicle is consuming too much oil.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle lost power steering and stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the moran chevrolet clinton twp located at (35500 s gratiot ave, clinton township, mi 48035) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not subjected to a recall or to tsb-14882. The rear main seal was replaced and the pcv valve cleaned. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving 35 mph, the gear shifted from drive to neutral without warning. The key was unable to be removed from the ignition because it failed to register when the gear was shifted to park. The vehicle was taken to victory chevrolet (717 rhyne rd, charlotte, nc 28214(704) 790-7800), but was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fees. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v502000 (electrical system, power train). The failure mileage was 93,685.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact's wife heard a grinding noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who stated that there was a large hole in the transfer case and the transmission failed. The certified mechanic stated that the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
My vehicle began by stalling out when i was in reverse, while driving and would stall out when stopped at a traffic light or stop sign.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle's power seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. A local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000. The vin was not available.
The car has oil consumption issues which is causing it to stall. My car stalled while driving in traffic which could very easily cause a bad accident gm is aware of the issue but won't fix it. I am already on my second engine do to this excessive oil consumption.
Gmc terrain hesitates in shifting between gears. Tachometer shows engine speeds up between shifts, causing a stall/ learch forward between shiftinghappens more when warm then when cold. Happens consistently after transmission is warmed up.
I have to check and add oil to my 2013 gmc terrain every single time i get gas. This is a huge hazard, because when it is low, the oil light does not illuminate. I am worried for mine and my daughters safety that i will get stranded on the road.
While moderately accelerating from a stop or while in motion, the transmission slams into a forward gear with a loud noise and jerk. This is an all wheel drive vehicle.
While driving 55 mph, there was an abnormal loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The noise was so loud that the contact could not continue to drive the vehicle and had it towed. The dealer diagnosed that there was a hole in the transfer case. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 103,000.
I was rear ended while attempting to come to a stop.the impact pushed me into the car in front of me.my seat belts locked and the air bag light deployed.but the air bag did not deploy (just the light).
I remote started my car and when i got near my car i could smell something burning and i opened the door and saw smoke coming up through the drivers seat.burned a hole about the size of a dime.
My driver's seat fell to its lowest position while i was driving.when i got a chance too pull over and inspect i found that the bolt had fallen out.
My front passenger manual seat is stuck in the last position it was in. The front driver's manual seat moves very smoothly. Am having the car checked wednesday, 9-26, but thought i'd check on possible recalls prior to getting it looked at. The car was stationary when i first discovered it.
Crash control keeps braking for a crash when there is nothing in front of.had the brakes replaced so i know it is not that
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain.
When i went to apply brakes at stop sign i found that the brake pedal was very badly placed so my foot missed the brake and i went thru the stop sign into oncoming traffic. (fortunately,i was able to swerve out of the oncoming lane)over the following week, my foot had to relearn the position of the pedal.this is a serious safety hazard.this was a rental car.
Purchased 2013 gmc terrain denali brand new; vehicle had approx 5000 miles when this incident took place.while out to mountains and just starting to heading down a steep grade on a dirt/gravel road (just started moving and was traveling less than 5mph), abs kicked in and wouldn't stop, preventing the break from being pressed.this continued for about a half mile down this steep grade road with a cliff on one side and a mountain face on the other.the vehicle continued to move down the mountain picking up speed the entire time.i tried everything i could think of to get the abs to release the breaks so that i could use them again.i tried to pump the breaks, shifted from m1 to drive, then to neutral, then to reverse, all to no avail.i also tried to just not do anything, not touch the breaks, and see if the breaks would release and i still continued down the mountain without the ability to stop.after traveling approx 1/2 mile down the mountain i hit the emergency breaks which did stop the vehicle.only after the vehicle came to a complete stop did the breaks become functional again.the vehicle was damaged during the rapid decent down the mountain side.my family and icame very close to death that day and all could've been killed due to this defect. Buyers should be aware of this issue.
The contact rented a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the brakes failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.
While driving on the highway and bearing slight left, my vehicle lost power steering. I the message screen read, " service power steering", and the center console interactive screen went completely black. This lasted no more than 3-5sec. Everything returned to normal and i was able to proceed without incident. No sign of anything leaking from under my vehicle as i inspected in later in the evening.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, he accelerated to pass a vehicle on the left when the vehicle abruptly pulled to the left. The contact stated that he regained control of the vehicle and attempted to pass another vehicle on the right but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they advised the contact that the vehicle was equipped with a hydraulic steering, which was designed to perform in the manner in which it did. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 60.
When driving the power steering will fail and lock up with out warning.you can turn the vehicle off.the computer resets and everything is normal only to fail immediately.this has happened at under 60,000 miles.previous model years this was a recall.i believe i have a faulty part from the previous recall years.not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving 3 mph, the steering wheel seized and the service power steering warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to penske buick gmc of cerritos (18400 studebaker rd, cerritos, ca 90703, (877) 886-6265) where the contact was informed that the steering gear needed to be replaced and the computer needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred twice. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 74,328.
Was driving towards a on ramp to a highway when the power steering failed. Service light came (service power steeling). Could still steer, but very difficult. Drove home and had it towed to dealer. They examined it the next day and found nothing wrong. Steering was now fine! two weeks later the same incidence happened while driving at 40 mph on a 4 lane city road. Vehicle is to be taken in this week for more testing of electronic ecm board. Even though vehicle is still drivable, it startles the driver and is very unsafe. Do not feel safe letting other family members drive vehicle or safe for trips.
The contact owns a 2013 gmc terrain. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to penske buick gmc of cerritos (18400 studebaker rd, cerritos, ca 90703, (866) 365-2940) twice, but the cause of the failure was undetermined. On the third occurrence, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where an unknown failure diagnosis was determined and unknown parts were replaced in the steering column. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.
When steering wheel turned hard to either side, 'service power steering' light comes on. My repair shop tried twice (first in april, then again in september) to reprogram computer. Took to gmc dealer. I had asked if there was secret warranty or bulletin on problem and they said yes, but i needed to pay $150 for diagnostic. They tried unsuccessfully to perform 'special coverage 14232a' but as stated on invoice ' problem still exists',. They do cover 2010-2012 models but i have the 2013. I called gmc and they acknowledge the problem exists (since 2015) but will not cover my year car. The repair is $2000 for the complete steering gear.i have had many cars, all well maintained but none everneeded a steering rack replaced. My 2013 gmc terrain sle has only 67745 miles.i am upset they choose to cover only some years when they know the problem exists for other years. It is not a safety issue so i will not have it repaired. I now have to be careful where i park and drive so as not to have to make sharp turns-ridiculous! i told them this was my first, and probably last, gmc product. I had a lens assembly replaced with genuine gmc oem parts and the same leaks occur. Seems their quality control is lacking. Plus their issue with heavy engine oil consumption. And air bags??? maybe nhtsa needs to step in and really see what's going on at gmc.thank you for any assistance you can provide.

The back hatch of my 2013 gmc terrain has perforating corrosion and the dealership (white's mountain, casper, wy) won't repair it and neither will general motors despite it still being under warranty
Started right after i purchased the vehicle in jan 2013 and continues every winter.when outside temperature falls below 40 degree's the vehicle windshield makes a cracking sound.i like to refer to it as making "popcorn" same sound. Continues while driving until i heat up car.i have brought it to dealer attention even had it in service department but they are unable to duplicate sound.i have video and sent to gmc.
Tailgate does not stay open. Slowly closes. Started happening 3/1/2017. Happens whenever i open rear tailgate for access.
Snow, mud and all road dirt accumulates inside the bottom of all doors, up to the inside interior panel of the doors.am concerned about rust in the future and if it's due to an improper seal on doors.
The back hatch does not have a feature to reverse closing if something (say, a child) is in between the vehicle and the closing door.you have to pull up on it very hard to get it to stop closing on a child and open back up.if a parent isn't there to stop it, it will definitely injure (possible severely) a child's head.

While decelerating from about 35 or 40 mph when you apply the brakes then come to complete stop the vehicle on the rear end will start to loudly thump, it starts out slowly thumping and begins to speed up and when you start to release the brake it begins to slow down and stop once one begins to accelerate. We have had the issue ongoing for about 3 months now, it started about 2 or 3 weeks after we got the vehicle and it has been in the shop about 6 times. The vehicle had about 2200 miles on it and the dealer said it was a 'like new' loaner vehicle. The mechanics said they thought it was a exhaust, something with the rear brakes, or maybe a panel in the back of the vehicle, they have tightened, and replaced almost the entire rear of the vehicle and the problem still persists. They cannot figure out the problem and i am afraid it might become a safety hazard. The dealer has called gmc and the dealer said gmc will not do anything for us.

The hatch back door that lefts up by a touch of a button came crashing down on my head while putting in the groceries. The next time it came down on my fingers. Also came down on my daughters back. All the time without warning. It lefts up just fine but it comes crashing down at any time. I took it to gmc dealership and they reported that the oil was liking from the left side terrain lift gate tailgate hatch-actuator 23432304. Part number 23432304 for 2013 gmc terrain. This could seriously hurt someone. I have turn mine to off and have to lift it manually. No fun. It's heavy.
"takata recall" my crash detection come on when iam driving and there is no car in front of me.my terrain starts breaking automatically.i have taken it in to gmc service and they can not find anything wrong but it has done this on numerous occasions
Takata recallhi i just recently purchased a 2013 gmc terrain at a dealership since november 15. They were taking care of some body damage it had. And when it was done they said i cant take the terrain home because it has a recall and they cant get any rplates for it. Honestly i havnt even test drive it. I dont think its fair to purchase a car and cant take it home untill god knows when. Still today theres no remedy. Is tjere anpther way i can drive this car home and bring it back when remedy is available like everyone with that same problem.
Extremely cold day driving home and car started to buck a little, then a few minutes later it started ticking.next thing my car shuts off and engine light comes on while driving down the freeway. The car blew it's rear main seal out and after reading it sounds like many other have had this problem.i had checked the oil two days prior and it was full.the car had no oil in it. I basically spent 16,000 and 3 years later the car is junk.

The contact stated developed a skin rash and a burning sensation in her lungs. The contact then noticed that even when the air condition unit was not activated, white particles emitted from the air vents located by the windshield. The contact went to a doctor where erosion in her lungs, pneumonia, and an infection on her face were discovered. The contact also stated that her daughter had recently started to cough up black and red mucus. She had not taken the child to a doctor to be treated.the contact had an air quality test performed inside the vehicle. The results came back positive but was yet to receive the actual results as to the cause of the positive results. The contact had not spoken to the dealer regarding the matter. The manufacturer had been notified of the matter and a complaint was filed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 60,660.
I can not roll down a back window driving above 25 mph without an ear-piercing noise created in the cabin. It has always happened every time the back window is opened while driving. I have to close the windows every time. It hurts our ears and is very distracting. I have six cars and no other make that i have does this.
When i use heat in my car for some reason it cuts its self back on .i can turn the heat off and its does cut off when i press off.the problem is when i turn off my car and turb it back on later in the day ,the heats cuts its self back on but the system in the car shows that the heat is off ,so there is no way for me to turn the heat off if the system indicates that its is already off , the only way i can actually can get the heat to tun off is to turn on the air for about 30 seconds and then turn it off
Our terrain started knocking right before it's due for an oil change.we checked it and it had no oil.the dealership has brushed it away and stated that it's not leaking but could be burning the oil.it wasn't until we talked to a mechanic that we were told that certain gmc vehicles burning oil and that it is recommended we spend more money on more oil replacing 1 quart every 1000 miles.we also found that our radio stopped working but because the dealership failed to inform us that the warranty we got didn't cover the radio.they told us we could get it repaired but we would have to pay out of pocket.this will be the last time we buy a gmc or a chevy suv due to the issues with getting the repairs done and the fact that we want a reliable vehicle.
Power lift gate falling - only stays open for about 5 seconds
My car began making odd knocking sounds and since it was due for an oil change, i made an appointment. The day of the appointment, as i was driving down a busy street and the car locked up and quit. I pulled into a driveway and called aaa. I tried turning the vehicle on a couple of times and it made a significantly loud noise that was concerning. After a mechanic assessed what was wrong, it was determined that the timing chain needed to be replaced and the car was nearly out of oil, even though it had not been 3,000 miles since the last oil change. The repair cost over $2,000.

Takata recall - as i was driving to work on a local road it started to rain one morning. I flipped the switch to turn on my wind shield wipers and they would not move. The next day i went to the dealership and they said it might be an electrical problem and that it would cost a ton of money because they would have to take parts off in order to get to the wipers to see what was causing the wipers to not work. They just did not move at all. I received a recall letter in september of 2016 for the wipers saying that there was a defect. I took my terrain back to the dealership and told them there was a recall. They looked it up and saw that it was indeed a recall but that gmc had not figured out how to fix it. They said i needed to wait for another letter. I have been checking the website every month to see if the recall has been updated and it has not. Now its february 2nd of 2017 and there is still not a second letter explaining how to fix the defect or the parts to fix it with.when you flip the switch to turn on the front wipers they do not move, but you can hear the motor for it going. The wipers in the back works, just not the front.
My wife was driving 65 miles an hour on the interstate in the pouring rain, and her windshield wipers suddenly stoppped working, causing an immediate and total loss of vision. Luckily, she did not wreck, but this was a very dangerous situation that could have ended very badly. I removed the trim covering the wiper motor, and found that the transmission linkage arm that connects the wipers to the motor had become disconnected. The nylon bushing that holds it in place was very badly worn. There is no direct replacement bushing available, so i replaced it with a bushing that sort-of fit. As you can imagine, this repair only lasted about 2 months. The same thing happened again to my wife two days ago. She was on her way to work (in the pouring rain, no less) when the linkage arm again disconnected. She was on a narrow bridge across a river that was undergoing roadwork at the time it happened. Again, she was badly frightened and shaken up by the ordeal. Luckily, she was not involved in a wreck. This time, i ordered a new wiper transmission for her car. It came at a cost of $175, with a one week wait for it to be delivered. In the meantime, my wife is without a reliable car. I have seen this complaint enough that i believe gmc should issue a recall and reimburse repair costs.

On 12/15/18 while driving on highway in maryland on a heavy raining night windshield wipers stop working and froze in place. Had to pull off and acquire a ride home, and retrieve vehicle the next day.
This is a life threatening situation.at night the top 3/4 of my windshield goes dark.i cannot see oncoming cars, road lanes, or side lines.this is like driving through overly tinted windows....when turning on unlit roads cannot see a thing.i cannot drive this car after dark..prisoner of the clock.my dealer tells me this is his fifth complaint re this matter. Help!!!!
Last week i was driving home while it was raining and both my front windshield wipers stopped while i was driving. I nearly had an accident and i had to abruptly pull over. I took my car to the dealership two separate times, after this occurred, and they informed me that gmc has no remedy to fix this problem. I contacted gmc directly and they told me there was nothing they could do either because they haven't identified how to fix it. I received a recall letter also.
Windshield wiper recallgeneral motors is stalling recalled windshield wiper repair causing safety concern for my granddaughter.
I was driving in the rain and my front windshield wipers went out.i had to pull over and stop to avoid having an accident. I could hear the motor running but they would not move. I parked my car, got a ride home and went back and picked it up when it stopped raining. The next day i took it to the shop and dropped it off for repair.i was told that it was the transmission that was inoperable, but the warranty would not cover this.i paid $285.21 to have this repaired on 9/9/16. The following day in the mail i received a recall notice from gmc stating that their was a recall on my windshield wipers.i called gmc and explained that i had just paid to have them repaired.i spoke to jaylen and she stated that the dealership was aware of the recall and should have called gmc first and she would check with them.she called back in about 3 days stating gmc didn't event have the parts to repair the wiper and they would let me know if i would be reimbursed by them once they received the parts.that was 2 months ago and i have yet to hear from anyone.my vehicle was dropped off on 9/2/16 and not returned to me until 9/9/16.i was given a rental car that was covered under my warranty due to the length of time it took to repair.

While driving on a busy highway during torrential downpours, my 2013 gmc terrain's windshield wipers became immediately inoperable with no warning. The wipers went off the side of the car & immediately put myself & children in danger.i was in the left passing lane & immediately put my hazards on & opened the window trying to look out because it's was evening traffic commute time. I was able to pull over in a very unsafe location putting myself & children at risk, but had no choice due to the high traffic volume & concrete construction barriers on both sides. I came home & googled what the issue can be, only to find there is a recall but there is no remedy for this at the present time.the recall is 2013 visibility: windshield/wiper washer:motor.nhtsa campaign # 16v582000 (summary: general motors llc (gm) is recalling certain model year 2013 chevrolet equinox and gmc terrain vehicles. An interim notice was sent to owners on september 8, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or gmc customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Gm's number for this recall is 25302. 7/18/16 while driving in a downpour today on a busy road, the wiper linkage ball joint which attaches the linkage to the motor failed.this made the wipers stop and immediately all forward visibility was obscured.it made it very difficult to find a place to pull off while slowing down in traffic. I was very lucky to not hit someone or something.the parts stores sell an entire new linkage assembly for around $150. The nylon linkage assembly hangs upside down whichis a very dangerous flaw in the gmc design and should be looked into to prevent tragedy.respectfully, lucky guy
1 year ago i was driving in torrential rain and my wipers stopped giving me zero visibility doing 60 in the fast lane of a major highway causing me to swerve off the road and land in a ditch.luckily no one was hurt. I complained to gmc but nothing was done. I took to dealer and had wiper ball joint replaced and wipers. Yesterday, 1 year and 2 months almost to the day- my wipers gave out again while driving in rain and hail.i do not feel safe in this vehicle and am disgusted with gmc's response to this deadly misfunction.

Windshield wipers stopped working, cannot drive in the rain. Received a letter about a recall.(campaign id 16v582) called gmc's home office as well as two dealerships and am being told because there is no remedy for the problem yet, i have to pay out of pocket for the repairs to be done and then wait to be reimbursed by the dealer when the recall has been remedied, which one dealer said could take years. I am a single guy living on my own and my income is very tight from month to month, and i don't feel that i should have to pay for this repair due to faulty craftsmanship by gmc. Also, i'm being lied to by these dealers for the repair cost. The gmc rep told me that a temporary fix would cost $70-$140, every dealer is quoting me $400+ and i simply cannot afford that, i feel that this is absurd and needs to be repaired with no cost out of my pocket.

The window wipers have stopped working while i was driving on the highway in the rain with my family. I had a mechanic look at it and put the ball joint back in the socket. The fix worked for a couple of weeks till it happened again. I have contacted the service center at the dealer and was told there was no permanent fix for this recall. My concern is that this may lead to an accident if driving during a heavy storm.
Took my car for a gmc recall and after waiting for 5 hours they didn't fix my car
I was driving to work on highway rt. 3 going approximately 52 miles per hour. It was raining very hard and my windshield wipers just stop working. I called them and they stated that it is not a complete recall and they are not responsible for getting it fixed. I have to pay out of pocket, if i want my vehicle repaired.

1. On august 17, 2014 my virtually new 2013 gmc terrain with less than only a few thousand miles of use crashed due to the general motors corporation [gmc] gmc terrain defect in design and manufacturing of this vehicle as confirmed by an official gmc dealer as recorded herein. The details of this incident are recorded below and represent only a small fraction of my many attempts by usps mail, email and telephone to contact gmc and to register my complaint. Gmc has not made any meaningful response to my contacts and, in point of fact and in truth, gmc has acted to intimidate, terrorize and bully me! 2. During the morning of august 17, 2014 in my 2013 gmc terrain while traveling south on i-95 in the right lane in virginia, near chester, virginia, the left front wheel suddenly separated and detached from this vehicle causing the steering of the vehicle to become disordered and deviate to the left and to crash into the concrete barrier separating the north bound lane of i 95 from the south bound lane. My damaged vehicle was eventually towed, after several hours, to a gmc dealership in chester, virginia and then to second gmc dealership in chester, virginia where temporary repairs were made after many delays and lack of availability of parts and other gmc glitches. After the temporary repairs were effected six days later, at 5:55 pm, my vehicle was returned to me. A copy of the repair facility of the gmc dealer: strosnider chevrolet, inc., attesting to these facts, is reprinted below wherein it is recorded: 'the left front wheel, while driving, began to come loose causing the steering to be distorted resulting in the vehicle striking the concrete center divider and the wheel completely cast out from the vehicle and the ensuing body damage' for your information and for inclusion in my file.
Showed stability track. I was driving on the highway when it showed service stability trak then engine power reduced. It took my speed from a 65 to 35 in an instant causing me to almost crash. Then the car started to jerk as i tried to drive to find somewhere safe.
Tires constantly lose air, sometimes very suddenly and normally while the vehicle is in motion. Three of the tires have been affected.
