My service bag light came on about 1 month ago. When i took it to the dealer to check it out. They said my year is not in the recall list. They also said none of the air bags will work until it gets fixed. I am living on a limited income and cannot afford to fix the air bags. Every year before and after of gmc terrain have been recalled. I don't understand why my 2012 has not been recalled. With this being a manufactured problem i believe gmc should pay to fix the air bags. I am afraid to take my grandchildren with me to the store.

I was traveling about 75mph when a deer ran infront of me, i wasn't able to stop completely and hit the deer on my right front side of my vehicle.. The smell of smoke came from my vehicle and my "service airbags" indicator came on.. No airbags deployed.. I had my 6 year old son in the car with me!! my car isn't drivable due to the signal being on even though the airbags didn't deploy.

We had begun to cross an intersection and, while our speed was from a dead stop, the other driver blew through a red light and hit us at what was probably the speed limit of 40mph.her car struck us in the right front passenger side and again on the rear passenger side.we, myself who was driving, and my wife, who was the passenger on the side hit, were both thrown hard to the right at impact, causing injuries to us both, most notably, my wife.she hit her head very hard on either the passenger door frame or the passenger window.no airbags deployed.no side airbags, no front airbags. No air bags deployed!

2012 gmc terrain. Consumer states the passenger seats air bag system and construction make the vehicle uncomfortable and initially unsafe for his wife *tgwa couple of days after purchasing the vehicle, the consumer's wife used a seat cushion to conform to the seat and the they soon discovered the air bag would not engage.

I experiencing problems with my gmc terrain. I have contacted my local dealer (doral gmc, in miami, fl) on multiple occasions with no response. I have submitted a written complaint to gmc on april 10th, 2012 and never received a reply. I've experienced continuous car problems since the purchase of my vehicle. Within the first 3 months of purchase my car had already been kept at the dealer for 30 days on 2 separate occasions. Vehicle problems were, for example; the airbag service light turned on, car turned off while driving on a highway, this issue was taken care of but returned several times to have it corrected as it kept happening. The vehicle also experienced transmission issues, the check engine light also kept turning on and service department couldn't figure anything out with my vehicle.this was my first gmc purchase and it has been my absolute worst experience with any american car company. The latest issue since december of 2017 has been the airbag service light once again and the stability track light. I took the vehicle in for service once again and i was charged for diagnostic service so that the issue could be found for each issue and was told i would have to pay $135.00 per issue. I only paid for the airbag issue since it seemed to be the most dangerous one and was told by service department that the module kit needed to be replaced. This new charge was $ 823.90 that i had to pay out of pocket. This issue seems to be a factory one and i would like to be reimbursed since this is a safety feature that should not have happened. I've never had an accident and have kept it serviced and well maintained at the dealer through out all the recalls and service problems. The reason i paid for this service was mainly for the safety of my family but once again, it's an inconvenience.

I inadvertently veered off side roadway, (va highway 220) colliding with a tree/roadside shrubs, etc (was knocked unconscious as forehead hit steering wheel on initial impact). Airbags did not deploy allowing me to sustain a head injury that knocked me unconscious... Forehead was gashed with significant bleeding.i was transported by ambulance in unconscious state.damage to vehicle is in excess of $8,000 so far as vehicle still in repair shop with massive front end damage that affects steering linkage, etc.the impact of vehicle against foliage, trees shrubs, should have forced air bags to deploy and i believe that i would not have sustained a head injury that rendered me unconscious with mild concussion and could not control vehicle leaving roadway.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, when two vehicles in front of him crashed. The contact stated he depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle failed to stop and rear ended the vehicle in front. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained a fractured sternum due to the seat belt and was taken to the hospital and stayed over night. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to impound lot. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired as of yet. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000. *dt

Vehicle was involved in a car accident and crashed into a bridge iron beam head-on.vehicle's air bags failed to deploy. Hood and front of car smashed as vehicle was wrapped around beam.only minor injuries to driver, as driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Veered off side of highway, struck something head-on and was rendered unconscious as head hit steering wheel.i was transported unconscious in ambulance from crash scene to local hospital, where i was an inpatient for two days. Extensive damage to front of vehicle indicated the severity of impact... Yet air bags did not deploy.i believe air bags should have deployed on impact and i would not have been rendered unconscious, and could have controlled vehicleto avoid striking tree, brush, etc. I contacted gmc corporate.. To advise my concerns forsafety... Received a follow up telephone call from gmc representative... (he) expressed no interest in my complaint... Refused to comment on my statement that air bag failed to deploy resulting in extensive damage to front of vehicle and sustaining a head injury as no bag deployed.no matter that i am leasing the vehicle and fear for my safety... I was advised that gmc had no further interest in this matter and would not evaluate my safety concerns.

Car crash at 45 mph. Front in damage and air bag did not deploy. Seatbelts did not lock up.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving 60 mph, the contact attempted to tap the brakes to slightly slow down the vehicle; however, the vehicle stopped abruptly. The failure recurred. The contact found that whenever he would lightly tap the brake pedal, the vehicle would abruptly stop. The contact found that the vehicle was equipped with a brake assist system and believed it was activating prematurely. The contact took the vehicle to the williamson cadillac dealer who stated that the system was performing normally. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: [xxx], which was now deemed a closed case. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000. The consumer stated at approximately 40-50 mph as the brakes were applied rapidly and lightly the brakes system engages causing a sudden stop. Updated 09/11/2017the consumer stated the vehicle was partially repaired. The consumer stated after the repair the system activated for 2 seconds, causing a jerk, then continued normally.*dtinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

While driving, there is a random ding. No idiot lights come on this has been going on for over a month. Today i happened to look up and the passenger airbag light was flashing. As if stating there was someone in the seat. The only way to stop it is to have the passenger seat belt buckled while driving. This only happens while driving. It is very disturbing because i am not sure if i am in an accident if my passenger will be safe.

Sudden unintended acceleration when vehicle shifted from park to drive, resulted in extreme high speed acceleration and no control of vehicle. This resulted in ahigh impact crash into garage side wall. Also air bag did not deploy. Assume throttle wide open causing sudden acceleration. Insurance report , and police report pending

On feb 10, 2020 i was involved in a side impact crash when a large truck failed to stop at a red light.i took the vehicle in for repairs as the front quarter panel and wheel were damaged.the collision shop called today and stated that all four of my impact sensors are "dead".he said i was very lucky because there is no way i would've known that my airbags wouldn't have deployed and i very likely would've been seriously injured or killed.there was no warning light on the dash, and no code.they found it by accident on a more intensive diagnostic.this is scary because how many other 2012 terrain owners won't know until one of their loved ones are injured or killed!?!?you need to do something about this.i got lucky but you have now 23 complaints about these bags not deploying.please do something!!!

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that he fell asleep while driving an unknown speed. The vehicle traveled to the right side of the road and went airborne approximately 20 feet, landing on all four tires. The vehicle then traveled approximately 200 feet and crashed into an embankment. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained a fractured back as a result. A police officer witnessed the incident and filed a report. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a collision center. The manufacturer was not notified of the faulty air bags. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.updated 10/16/12*lj

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while sitting at a traffic stop, a semi-truck crashed into the rear bumper of the contact's vehicle.the contact's vehicle was pushed forward, causing the contact to crash into a preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the hand, neck and back. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the air bag deployment failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.

During a bad storm the windshield wipers went past the windshield and the motor froze up motor started humming then locked up.

Takata recall my car has been throwing a engine power reduced and service stabil trak light. I have had it in the shop five times now, after replacing a coolant sensor which is a code it through, it has thrown three pedal sensors, after replacing it the first time the mechanic place told me the pedal was bad, sent it back replaced it again and the light came back on. This has been going on since the beginning of may and still not resolved. I have read several other people post about this on their terrains.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving 55 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated. Also, the vehicle would occasionally fail to start with the remote starter. The vehicle was taken to an auto part store and different failure codes appeared. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

I purchased my 2012 gmc terrain from clay cooley in irving, tx on 01/05/2015 with an extended service contract. I have had issues with this vehicle ever since. I took the vehicle in for service and was told the service contract would not cover my issue and that the issue was caused by lack of maintenance, which is not the case as i maintain the oil in this vehicle and even had to purchase a new battery for the vehicle recently. I am attaching a picture of the condition of the battery shortly after the vehicle was sold to me to where i contacted my sales agent and he advised me to check my service contract. This car's engine repeatedly stops, especially when approaching a red light or stop sign or at the moment of acceleration. I have had to avoid many accidents due to people driving up on me because i should have been accelerating at the time but my car turned off. The battery would die on this car on a weekly basis which caused me to purchase a battery and there is still no progress in the vehicle. There are electrical issues as well as the lighting in the car gets dim when we are in the dark but bright when the sun is out. Also, the seatbelt for the passenger's side constantly rings sending a notification that the seatbelt needs to be latched, even when no one else or nothing else is in that seat. I fear that one day i may need that air bag and it might not work because the seatbelt appears to be faulty. Also, another issue, which is not necessarily a safety issue, but an extreme nuisance and also maybe an electrical issue is the car radio and volume will freeze at any given moment and the car has to be stopped and idle for a period of time before the radio is active and able to turn channels again. The safety issues for this car is real and i am in fear that i will get hit from behind due to the faulty engine.

Vehicle shuts off when slowing to a stop and have to restart in order to accelerate. That was looked at and 'fixed' and now the vehicle shakes when slowing down and headlights dim as if it is trying not to shut off. Engine is very rough and rattles while starting to accelerate and accelerating. When brakes are pushed the car starts to turn off while in motion. When stopped, car shakes and there is a very hard knocking coming from the engine.

Won't start,get a "check power steering"light.

Took my 2012 terrain in for the excessive oil burn in may 2017.several times before the car would not start.i was told by dealer it was due to the oil being low due to burn within 1000 miles of change.about a month after getting it back it started randomly not starting.i first thought it was that i left the dome lights on.then it would happen when i used my back gate, then randomly after opening any door but the drivers when the car was not on.everything was working but the car wouldn't start. It was all random. Check engine light came on and it read gas cap, so i changed that as i was told that could cause the car not to start.it didn't help and it resumed not starting within days.so i have been starting car to open any other doors and reduced to no dome lights at night.last night, it wouldn't' start after simply backing my car into a different spot in my driveway.i had it jumped and then the cent console was completely blacked out.i could change the stations and change the heat but no lights.got back home after driving it to charge battery and the radio wouldn't shut off even after removing key and locking.i tried both fobs, and it wouldn't shut down.i shut the radio off, and then it seemed to have worked because the security light came on and i didn't see any lights inside.this morning the car was dead.more than usual, i couldn't even unlock it except with key.i tried to start, no click and then it locked my keys into the ignition.we jumped it and i drove it straight to the dealer.i have to drive for my job and right now i am scared something it going to stop working like the lights or engine and i will be hurt or killed or hurt someone else.very scary.

My 2012 gmc terrain has been stalling for a few days now the stabilltrack sensor was replaced this year the engine light comes on and off. And my radio sometimes cuts off on it's own but now my key keeps getting stuck in the ignition switch and the car keeps stalling but when i get a jump it starts with no problem but once it stalled when i was driving thank god i was a few blocks from home . Then when i try to start again it won't start. It's only 5yrs. Old i've read many complaints about this modle. I think i bought a lemon 😕

The defroster will not switch air flow to vent. This causes the entire car to fog up constantly especially the windshield during rain or humid weather. This obstructs view and creates a life threatening hazard. This happens while driving constantly on highway i side street.

Stationary sensor lights come on steering monitoring warning also reduced engine power then doesn't come on after turning off and it doesn't turn off like it should it is like the engine begins choking.

Gmc refuses to help. I am contacting because i own a 2012 gmc terrain and we just started having issues with out radio where it will turn on even with the car off. Our gmc dealer said that they have seen this issue alot and since my vehicle just came out of warranty in feb. It will cost us $150. What can we do since this is a fault in the radio flashing not something we have done. If the radio turns on while the car is off what else will start doing that.

I have had this car for less than a year, bought from a dealer, and i have checked the background to which there have not been any type of accident or damage from what was provided to me.it randomly started shaking uncontrollably and shutting off while i was driving.now mind you, as a pregnant woman driving on the highway, this is not safe.my engine light turned on. Though i could have gotten in an accident, by the grace of god people moved out the way and allowed me to get off and to the side.

Car die (stall) at idol after warmed up drive it 10 miles stop at stop sign it dierestart die again may do that 3-4 times before it will take gas and run does this intermeditlyrun fine for half a day stop run in store come out restart and it die (no chugging just die)auto parts store said it was a crankshaft sensor when they checked what had the check engine light on (note check engine light not come on each time it stalls)

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the air conditioning was not working and leaked inside the vehicle on both sides during the summer months. The contact also stated that the heater did not work in the winter. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who could not determine the nature of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 27,000.

Vehicle check engine light came on at 50,000 miles, would not pass inspection. Computer did not show what problem was. Car would cut off in drive in idle. Car would shake. Mechanics put in new parts and battery for more than $1200. Still was not fixed. Mechanic went to a dealership to inquire if they had seen this problem. At the dealership it was discovered that many of the parts that would cause the problem were on recall. Gm had not posted these recalls or notified me, the owner. After inspecting the car they said there was too much wrong to repair and the entire engine would need to be replaced. They said i would need to drive 2000 miles to check oil consumption. They never made us aware there may be problem with the oil consumption. I am 68 yrs old and walk with a walker. I am in the hospital often. The mechanics said they would drive the car as much as they thought necessary to determine oil consumption. While driving the vehicle in charlotte nc the car started smoking and caught fire. The driver forced his way out but had that been me, i probably would have died due to my handicap. I have now been without a vehicle for over a month. I have contacted gm but they are slow for any resolution. I asked for a loaner vehicle but was told they couldn't do that now.

Emission control has went out twice within 3 months of being fixed. Cam shaft both sides had to be replaced. 4 times with 6 months the fuel light has came on stating the cap needs repaired, even though it was replaced. Alternator, battery has been replaced october 2019, while in another sate.engine light has been on since i purchased it in feb. 2019.electrical shortage because of previous right side damage. Throttle has went out, while driving 65 on highways.stability control stopped working. Crankshaft was replaced. Exhaust leak. Body control short, jerking while driving, timing warning

While driving the vehicle, i experienced strong knocking vibrations and sounds seemingly coming through the floorboard.as i continued driving for about 5 miles trying to get home, the knocking became more pronounced and my steering was affected. I also began noticing an extremely strong odor necessitating lowering windows to breathe.i notified my dealership and took the vehicle in for diagnosis the very next morning without driving it after arriving to my garage. I was told the awd had completely deteriorated.my concern was that i never received any dashboard notification of the problem, not did my onstar diagnosis indicate a problem.i have been quite disturbed that the vehicle became disabled before i was aware of any problem.i have taken my vehicle in for regular maintenance at my gmc dealership and would like an explanation regarding the failure to identifythis problem through the regular maintenance checks.i am single senior woman who has no backup vehicle and am quite concerned about my safety on the highway and this issue has caused me to have serious safety concerns. I drove the car to the dealership to check on the problem on friday, february 16, 2018.i called the gmc complaint center to check on possible recalls or any remaining warranties that might apply and i was told the center was assigning a sr. Advisor to contact the local gmc dealership that still has my car and the advisor was told the dealership needed more time to diagnose and assess the cause of the problem.i have had to rent a vehicle since it may be another 2-3 days before i even get a response regarding the nature and cost of the repairs. I was originally told the entire awd system had to be replaced at a cost of $1500--$2000.i questioned the reason for the extreme malfunction without any warning notices appearing...main reason for my complaint and concern.

We have had the gmc terrain shut down twice while driving.both time the car center console goes completely black and you have no control over the vehicle.we brought it in for service but they could not find anything wrong, after the second time they still found nothing wrong but they decide to replace the cars internal computer.the issue was reported to corporate gm but not much was made if it.after all the news with other gm vehicle i'm concerned this that this may be happening with other gmc terrain vehicle.my wife who is the primary driver is very frighten to drive the car since this.if you have any further question please feel free to contact me.

The low beam h11 bulb is causing the (male/female plug in) for this component to overheat causing the plastic to become charred, partially melted and brittle in which the low beam light stops working due to this problem.the wiring is becoming soft at the plug in connection from this heat and allowing the protective wire insulation to be melted permitting the bare wire to be visible which could produce a fire hazard at this location.this has occurred on the right side twice and on the left side once.in all three cases, the bulbs with the female plug in and the male electrical connection has been replace.this vehicle has only 28755 miles on it. Just noticed the low beam light on right side not working again today. Replaced this side within the last 9 months.

On various occasions when slowing down or turning, the engine will die.front end accident going 55+ mph on a country road, hit a very large dip, airbags did not deploy, seat belts did lock up.

In may 2018 my rear camera and backup lights stopped working. When i went to the dealer, the dealer tol me that the rear camera was bad and it was tied to the back up lights. They would not fix it for free. I was charged $175 dollars to disconnect the camera. The camera should be linked to the backup lights when it malfunctions. I almost hit a person because the backup lights would not turn on this is a serious defect. Sunrise chevy should not have charged me for this problem.

The battery would die on this car on a weekly basis which caused me to purchase a battery and there is still no progress in the vehicle. The motor knocks badly upon startup, especially in the mornings. The engine is very weak after an independent diagnostic check. And just last week, as i was driving on the highway at normal speeds, the muffler shield broke, fell, and began scraping against the highway. There are electrical issues as well as the lighting in the car gets dim when we are in the dark but bright when the sun is out. Also, the seatbelt for the passenger'sside constantly rings sending a notification that the seatbelt needs to be latched, evenwhen no one else or nothing else is in that seat. My vehicle has excessive oil consumption including the need for frequent oil refilling, combined with audible rattle and knocking sound.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving at approximately 25 mph, the traction control and the stability trac warning lights illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

Over the past couple years i have become worried to even drive this vehicle. Well taken care of and maintenance completed regularly. This vehicle has been in the shop 7 times in the past couple years but no one can tell me exactly what is going on. Only 1 place has told me that i need extensive electrical work but couldn't tell me what exactly the problem was. Issue #1: when coming to a stop, and/or idle, the engine seems to give up and vehicle shuts off. Issue #2: when started engine sounds like a.high pitch raddle. Issue #3: occasionally, while driving on the interstate going around 60 - 65 mph the electrical inside the vehicle will flash and everything shuts off and the emergency brake is applied automatically. This has become dangerous - if i wasn't wearing a seatbelt i could have been thrown through the windshield. Issue #4: replace fuel cap sensor comes on even though it's been replaced. Issue #5: engine power reduced notification comes on even though it had a new battery and alternator. Issue #6: occasionally speakers sound blown and you can hear a buzzing as you accelerate. Issue #7: stabili track, abs, and tpms sensors all come on at once and go away at once atleast 4 times a week. Issue #7: rear cam doesn't always work, sometime either black or static looking. Issue #8: sometimes key sticks in ignitiin and will not turn on unless being jumped by another vehicle. Issue #9: often upon starting the whole dash goes black and will stay that way for several hours then comes back on. I've checked all fuses and multiple mechanics can't figure it out. As time goes by without repair i'm scared to even drive this vehicle. Why can't someone figure this out!!

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that after inserting the key into the ignition switch, the switch would not turn and the vehicle failed to start. Also, the contact indicated that the key became stuck in the ignition switch. After removing the key from the ignition switch the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician replaced the ignition key but within days of retrieving the vehicle the failure had recurred. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 41,000.

I own a 2012 terrain sle2 with approximately 20,000 miles. On friday, december 13, 2013, i joined the innumerable owners of gm products (found on the various owner forums on the internet) that have experienced the service stabilitrak light coming on with rough idling. Other owners have expressed the loss of power when this event occurs. Luckily, i was backing out of my garage and not traveling on the expressway so i cannot advise whether there was loss of power since i was going so slow. The light went off when i turned the vehicle off in order to come inside and call the dealer (woody buick gmc in naperville il). The dealer was able to find code po300 (random cylinder misfire) but they could find nothing wrong. I was told the vehicle fixed itself (which i find highly doubtful and very disturbing). I am a one vehicle family and now in a complete panic whenever i drive this vehicle. I fear for my life, my passengers? and others because loss of power can happen at any time and i am concerned about being rear ended since the driver behind me would have no clue, as i don?t, that my vehicle will lose power. Since this is a huge safety concern, i am shocked that gm has not addressed this failure of its products.

Several times in 3 years, the dealership can not duplicate the problem loss of power starts running slow, wont go over 20 mph, check stability light comes on, check engine light starts blinking, acts like misfire or no fuel in vehicle, starts anywhere at any time, very unsafe and scary. At least taken to a certified dealership 7 or 8 times and every time they do something differant , yet the problem persists! the vehicle can be stationary at red light and big or while driving going 45 or 65 and drop to 20 mph and not want to go, i push the gas paddle to floor and it does nothing. This has been intermediate and a problem since month 3 of buying my vehicle. This is not safe and the dealership has basically givin up on me and my vehicle.

I have had issues with this vehicle ever since its purchase 01/2015. I took the vehicle in for service and was told the service contract would not cover my issue and that the issue was caused by lack of maintenance, which is not the case as i maintain the oil in this vehicle and even had to purchase a new battery for the vehicle recently.this car's engine repeatedly stops, especially when approaching a red light or stop sign or at the moment of acceleration. I have had to avoid many accidents due to people driving up on me because i should have been accelerating at the time but my car turned off. The battery would die on this car on a weekly basis which caused me to purchase a battery and there is still no progress in the vehicle. I fear that one day i may need that air bag and it might not work because the seatbelt appears to be faulty. Also, anotherissue, which is not necessarily a safety issue, but an extreme nuisance and also maybe anelectrical issue is the car radio and volume will freeze atany given moment and the car has to be stopped and idle fora period of time before the radio is active and able to turnchannels again. The safety issues for this car are real and i am in fear that i will get hit from behind due to the faulty engine.

The vehicle has been in the shop for 10 to 12 times due to failure with the engine misfiring as well as traction control lights and stability trac as well as transmission not shifting right and loss of power while driving on major highways and brought into the dealership where they tell me they can find or make the problem reappear. But have shown the dealership service department video and have had 3 general motor techs that they hired from hp and been told the vehicle is safe and that there will be no more problems but have been in the vehicle while the problems have happened and have it on video to the point where i almost lost my life yesterday night. The vehicle is a death trap and many customers including myself on gmc terrain forum as well as online have had the same problem and have been told the same thing that it is nothing to worry about but it is. Please help have been told by gm to keep my mouth shut they would offer me 5,000 dollars for my troubles and that my kids are worth that much from a legal advisor at general motors legal. Have ask to be taking out of the vehicle for something safe and still i'm being told no......please help

My 2012 gmc terrain 2.4l is having an issue with excessive oil consumption. I am constantly having to check my oil and it gets to 1 qt or more low between my 5k oil changes. I've seen multiple complaints with this. Because of this i have a check engine light on indicating my catalytic converter may be bad. Ive had the car for about three years. It shouldn't need the catalytic converter already. My car is due for smog next month and i've akready had to repmace the intake and exhaust sensors on the engine because of the oil issue. This happens while car is in motion being driven. It is eating up oil.

Summary:i had to decide to brake or shoot through a yellow light, going about 35 mph, i braked! all of a sudden i heard a clunk and then alarm ding from the dash as well as message "service stabiltrak" then "reduced engine power". I was unable to go any faster than 25mph. I drove in this mode for about 2 miles taking the back streets to my destination. At destination shut vehicle off to see if this would reset something, it did! it was super scary.so now terrified to brake hard.

My check engine light came on about a month ago and was serviced for a problem with the camshaft. After getting my gmc terrain back i noticed that on occasion the rpm would shoot up while driving and then crash back down causing almost a jerking motion (it has happened in all types of scenarios i.e. While driving on the highway, back roads (all while at a steady speed) and then finally yesterday 3/5/2016 while breaking as i approached a stop sign.) now this morning (3/6/2016) i went out to start my car and immediately after it turned over the engine was making a very loud noise that i can only describe as the sound of an airplane engine with a light knocking sound.i stood there unsure of what to do and the car just turned off.i went inside, got my husband, started it again this time without the noise, but the dashboard was filled with lights on- check engine, traction control, and a warning service stabilitrack.i let it run for about 5 minutes, turned it off, and restarted it.the check engine light is now off, but the traction control and stabilitrak warning remained on.i decided to try to drive the car around the block to check it out as of course it's sunday and i can't get in touch with the service department and also because i am the primary driver of two children under 10.i backed out of the driveway, and went into drive and the car stalled again.i got it started and got halfway back up my driveway before it stalled again. Truthfully, i am scared to even try to drive it now, and if i am being honest i don't think that the car will make it to the dealership (1hr. Away by highway) without stalling.i've noticed others with similar complaints on gm/chevy all makes and models, and don't understand why this issue is not being resolved. What are they waiting for- a family of 4 driving on a highway causing an accident because their car stalled? death?

Excessive oil consumption at less than 65,000 miles, warning lights do not activate to indicate a problem.next the timing chain broke and was repaired, now the catalytic converter needs replacement.all result of oil consumption and is a widely known issue affecting thousands of 2010-2013 gmc terrains in the us but gmc will not help or take recall action.a class action lawsuit is underway, but it won't be approved until oct 2019 (state of fl), two others on a stay (il and ca) until fl is finalized.i purchased my vehicle used with a salvage title.the oil problem is in no way connected with the salvage title (rear end damage, and certified by state as safe).gmc mailed me a special coverage letter dated may 2017 but they won't honor it because i did not purchase from a gmc dealer or have my routine maintenance at gmc service.in fact when i received the letter i followed the instructions and contacted a local gmc service but they called me back telling me they are cancelling the appointment because when they looked up my vin and saw it is a salvage title.i told them i have the letter from gm dated may 2017 but they told me i should not have received the letter, that i don't qualify.the letter reads in part: "gmc is providing owners with additional protection for the condition, if this condition occurs within 7 years and 6 months or 120000 miles the condition will be repaired at no charge."please see testimonials here from affected consumers:terrrain-equinox oil consumption recall: https://www.facebook.com/groups/174877126561662/https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2019/gm-oil-consumption-lawsuit.shtmlhttps://www.classaction.org/blog/settlement-reached-in-class-action-over-chevy-equinox-gmc-terrain-oil-consumption-here-are-the-detailsthese are family vehicles and they are unsafe.please help.

All of these models have been prone to oil consumption issues, during the pandemic gmc of southern pines north carolina decided to charge us $500 for the repair because we were not able to make it on time. This is something that gmc has been avoiding and throwing its customers in a loop in order to fix. Oil consumption due to the fault of gmc can be found in our records of repair.

Just recently i took my gmc terrain on a recall . They told me that the timing chain had to be replaced. The car only has 111,441 miles, i don't think at 111 thousand miles a timing chain should be replaced.it must be a manufacture defect . We dealing with a chain, not a timing belt.

I was driving my sons to school at around 7:45 am, my vehicle cut-off in rush hour traffic. I had to quickly put on my hazards and flag the vehiclesin my lane and driving behind me to move ahead of me. I called gmc who told me to go the nearest dealership but my insurance said they would send me a tow truck to get me there. The car was towed to rockville center gmc which diagnosed the vehicle. They charged the battery and claimed a cable was loose but that didn't make any sense. Three years after the same thing happens again but this time the dashboard warning stated the engine needed checking. This time i took it backthe neaborhood's autozone which ran diagnostic tests and suggested i return to my dealership with those diagnosis codes/issues. The dealership took notes from autozone's printout, completed a scan test and stated that a camshaft actuators needed replacing to prevent stalling while driving. Whe nasked why this wasn't done when i took there for that very same issue 3 years ago hesaid that wasn't the issue but now i have to pay for the repairs because i'm 1 wk short of the warranty expiring.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was brought to the dealer for diagnostic testing, but the details could not be provided. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle began to jerk and hesitate and a loud abnormal knocking noise was heard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was in working condition. The contact stated that the engine failed shortly after, making the vehicle inoperable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 135,000.

Vehicle was obviously burning excessive oil. Took it to a gm dealership and was told it was a non issue. Now the vehicle is past the gm max mileage for their recall (they won't take responsibility)!and has developed a white white frothy residue on oil cap, dip stick. (piston rings and/or gasket failure). Will never buy a gm product again!

The rear main seal comprimised and caused the low oil pressure stip engine light to come on. My mechanic added oil and it poured out. He tried to get the part and he could only locate at dealersgip 200 miles awat. Apparebtly this has been occurring often with vehicles with this engine.

I parked my vehicle in the driveway. Upon exiting the vehicle i used the key fob to lock the vehicle, it beeped and began to walk away. As i was about 10 steps from the vehicle, it beeped again as if i hit the fob and restarted itself. It literally restarted itself.they keys were not in the ignition, they were in my hand.i was unable to unlock the vehicle using the key fob and had to manually open the door using the actual key in the door lock.i was unable to turn the vehicle off by reinserting the key in the ignition. I wiggled the shifter and the car turned off. This is the fourth the car has been running while the keys were not in the ignition and it is the second time the vehicle restarted itself without the key being in the ignition.this is clearly a manufacturing issue. What are you waiting for to add this vehicle to the recall list? property damage and personal injury will eventually occur and then i will sue gmc for damages. I am officially putting gmc on notice. Please recall this vehicle and fix this issue.

Pistons are bad and dealership at 16400 w colfax ave, golden co 80401 refuses to replace and oil consumption is to much. This problem has been going on for to long i was told by management after i paid for a high pressure fuel pump replacement if the problem was still there it would be fixed at no charge to me. Since then the manager quit and there is all differant staff and i have tried the corporate office still not resolved the only thing left is small claims court with a cap at $7000.i do not want to go to court if i really do not have to but if necessary i already have the paperwork to file.the dealership had my vehicle for over two weeks running diagnostics with no answer i asked them to check the pressure coming from the oil cap when you remove it.nothing they just replaced the high pressure fuel pump and the problem is still there this vehicle is not safe to drive and can cause a wreck if not fixed. Loses power and gas pedal hits the floor i had to pay for a rental car the whole time the dealership had my vehicle because they said they would get us a loner vehicle and that never happened this will be my last attempt to resolve this matter out of court.

Timing chain jumping off of sprockets and eating away at the chain guides and tensioners.

This vehicle continues to restart itself after i have exited and locked the vehicle.they keys are not in the ignition, the keys are in my hand. Please put this vehicle on the recall list and make things right.this is getting ridiculous.

Burning oil engine power reducedbuckingstalling

At low idle or when backing up and accelerating vehicle the engine stalls. This typically occurs after driving car for 10-15 minutes. Engine light appears. It will continue to stall unless holding down brake & accelerator at same time. Stops stalling when speed increases, but stalls on low speeds & backing up continually. Code indicates camshaft adjuster sensor. First sensor replaced. Problem occurred again immediately after leaving garage. Second sensor replaced. Problem occurred once again! mechanic thinksit could be ground wiring issue is burning up the camshaft sensors. The car is not safe to drive.

While driving to work on the freeway, engine began making a knocking/rattling sound; checked dipstick the next morning and there was no oil on it.oil had just been changed 2,500 miles previously.vehicle is consuming oil at an abnormally high, about one quart per 500 miles, and has no warning light to alert the driver when the oil level is too low.we are at risk of experiencing engine failure at any time while driving.we have discovered this to be a common issue after our other vehicle of the same year, make and model suffered catastrophic engine failure linked to low oil pressure.vehicle has 93,400 miles and we have owned it since april 2020.this model year vehicle is known to be equipped with faulty piston ring assemblies which lead to excessive oil consumption.additionally, there is no oil pressure sensor to alert the driver to the low oil; consequently, this misleads the owner into operating the vehicle with inadequate oil levels and causing engine damage.complete engine failure can occur suddenly, creating an enormous safety hazard; we are lucky we were not driving at highway speeds or in heavy traffic at the time it occurred.gm issued a special coverage adjustment, but it was not nearly adequate to cover the extent of damage that can and does occur as a result of this defect, leaving many drivers stuck with unreliable, unsafe vehicles or astronomically expensive repairs.

Engine is using excessive oil one quart in five days. Every week.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 35 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine and the vehicle started to decelerate. The contact coasted into a parking lot and noticed an oil odor around the vehicle. The contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking oil all over the parking lot. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the pcv valve was frozen and was not circulating caused by excessive pressure leaking out oil. The intake manifold and cam cover needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 11,000. The consumer requested an update of the investigation concerning the vehicle's pcvvalve.

Vehicle was jerking at a red light with foot firmly on the brake. This happened at the base of a hill on a city street. I wasn't sure if the car would lurch into oncoming traffic. As it started driving again, it began to make a rattling and knocking noise. Car then dropped a huge amount of oil on concrete. It lost power in lower speed. Luckily i was able to limp home with the car. Had to have it towed to dealership as it wasn't drivable.

I just found out that this vehicle has a recall concerning oil consumption.i just found out about this issue. I want to know what could be done to have my vehicle repaired

Oil consumption issue: i realized about 3 months ago that my car engine would shake a bit on start up and during idle. I took it into the dealership for a diagnostic test and was told that there was very little oil in the car and that it was burnt. I was very surprised because i have never had an issue like this before. So we got an oil change and that was that. Engine still shook on idle and during startup. 5000 miles later i realize that it is time for an oil change and check the dip stick and find that nothing appears on it, indicating that it is short at least 1.25 quarts. I fill it up with 0.5 quarts and still nothing on the dip stick.i have looked online and seen that many others have had this issue of oil consumption with 2010-2013 terrains and that there is a bulletin on it (below):http://gm.oemdtc.com/1893/excessive-oil-consumption-2010-2013-buick-chevrolet-gmc#comment-1224i call the dealership and the gmc customer service line, check my vin and they say there are no recalls on my car. What am i to do? this is an ongoing issue that many others have complained about in bulletins and on the website above. I feel that this issue has done its damage on the engine and is going to cost me thousands to repair.

My daughter was driving a 2012 gmc terrain when the timing chain broke and caused the car to lose power and lock up immediately.she was driving straight on a two-lane state highway. It was determined the damage ruined the motor and required a complete motor replacement.the mileage on the vehicle was 99,035 at the time of the incident.i wasn't aware until today that i could file a complaint with the national highway traffic safety administration.when i called the closest dealer (30 miles away), they were not very helpful.

I also have a 2012 gmc terrain that has an oil consumption issue that has caused complete engine failure.approximately 2.5 weeks ago the car wouldnt start.engine would turn over but not start.i thought that it might be the fuel pump.had it towed to my mechanic since it has 87k miles and out of warranty.so i went to check the status of the car and the first thing i was told was there was no oil when they checked it.they added 4 quarts before trying to diagnose the problem.mind you the oil was changed 3k miles ago and oil life monitor said it had 54% life left. They ran the car for codes and the only code that came up was for the tire pressure system, also an issue with the terrain. No issue was found with fuel pump or sensors.spark plugs were replaced due to them being all fouled up.that didnt fix the issue so it was determined that it must be the timing chain jumped.at that point i had it towed again to the dealership i purchase it from.i was told it would be 125.00 to run a diagnostic.fine.so i get a call the next day that it was indeed the timing chain.i asked the service guy what would cause this and i was told poor lubrication or low oil pressure.thats when i started to explain that the first shop had to put 4qts of oil in bc it was bone dry.i asked about the vin specific letter i received last year,2017, about the oil consumption issue and isnt that why there was no oil and hence causing the timing belt to jump.he answered "no".then told that upon further inspection, the valves were bent so we were now looking at 3500 to fix or 6k to replace the engine with another problemed engine. So that is when i contacted the toll free customer service line about the situation. They told me to go back to dealership and speak to the customer experience manager.

Excessive oil burn with no warning of low oil until about one quart left in engine. Only check engine light came on. Yes the manual says check oil at every fill up but after owning many cars over 38 years without this problem it would seem the manual was written to protect gm. I would not have purchased the vehicle if i knew i had to put in a quart of oil every 1500 miles. Google this. Im not the only one.

The contact stated that the vehicle operated abnormally. The dealer diagnosed that the malfunction was due to excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,649.

2012 gms terrain 4 cylinder flex fuel- camshaft code, cam sensors replaced, spitting and sputtering, stalled x3 and shut off, fuel consumption noted, loss of power. Gmc dealership refused to perform diagnosis on my car due to my refusal to pay for ruling out the documented fuel leak recall/special coverage. My request was only to have fuel the issue looked at and ruled out, nothing further, to ensure this was not causing my problem. I reported my problems that are consistent with the noted fuel special coverage and turned away because i did not have $120 to pay if they found it was not the problem. Upon reading my issue correlates with numerous terrain andequinox owners. I want in this action to get something done for people like myself.

I bought my vehicle brand new and have records of every maintenance done in a timely manner. On03/31/2017, i drove 38 miles to a furniture store with my 11 month old baby and wife. When i returned to my car, it would not start. When i turn the car on, it clicks but no power goes to the engine. There was no engine light on and no indication that something was wrong with the vehicle. I ended up towing it to a gmc dealership. They did inspection and advised the timing chain broke and had a chain effect braking rods in the engine. They also mentioned something about the engine oil burning. I was advised by the gm dealers that the whole engine will need to be replaced and advised my warranty expired on 1/14/2017. I contacted gm customer service and have opened a case file but i am not sure if they will do anything to assist me. I did some research online and it appears multiple customers who have owned gmc terrain have had similar issues. If the timing chain broke while i was driving, it is quite possible there might have been a fatality and i or my family might not be alive today.

Complete motor failure, engine oil loose, complete loose of control.while driving down the highway, this vehicle had a sudden oil loose, no warning lights came on causing my spouse to loose all control of the vehicle nearly incurring a head on collision on a local highway at speed of 60mph. We had to have to vehicle towed to a local shop and is no longer drivable and the motor is ruined. The vehicle only has 83,000 miles and all evidence of motor failure appears to be on the manufactures behalf, as the motor over pressurized and lost all oil and didn't have a safety warning, this could have killed my spouse or others. I have attached photos for review

The vehicle has excessive oil consumption. I have to keep adding motor oil a couple weeks after doing oil change.

Using a lot of oil between oil changes. Added oil as needed but now appears to be using more. 3,000 miles 2 quarts down. About 112,000 miles owned since new

At 77,894 miles, & about 3,000 miles into previous oil change, the car shut off while my wife was driving with our children in the car and stopped in the middle of the road. Several attempts to re-start the engine were unsuccessful. Prior to this there was no warning signs of issues such as check engine light, odd noise, etc. The car did not allow time for the vehicle to drift off the main road and created a risk of potential collision with other vehicles. Luckily this occurred in a residential area and not on the highway a few minutes earlier. We had the vehicle towed to my certified mechanic and upon inspection identified there was no oil in the car. There is no sign of oil leakage, and the oil had been changed and topped off less than 3000 miles prior to this. Approx. 2 years prior, we receiving the bulletin & took the vehicle to the gmc dealer, coral springs auto mall to conduct a oil consumption test. The service advisor checked the dipstick upon my return as instructed 2000 miles later & advised it "appeared" that my car did not have the issue. Remembering this instance, 2 years later, while still within the special coverage warranty parameters, i had the car towed back to coral springs auto mall gmc for the repair. I am now being told by both the service manager and gmc customer care agent that since i did not bring the vehicle in sooner, they will not honor the coverage, however they do have record of the inspection on 06/06/17 but the advisor did not update the ticket with results. I am also told that based on loyalty with the dealer, they could honor the coverage, however since i do not service my car there, i have no loyalty in order for them to honor the claim and repair the vehicle. They quoted $5,800 to replace an engine they know to be faulty. Due to "lack of lubrication" caused by excessive oil consumption the engine has significant internal damage.

My vehicle has excessive oil consumption including the need for frequent oil refilling, combined with audible rattle and knocking sound.

The check engine lights continually comes one and off. At first, when my husband turned on the truck and saw the check engine light we took it in and the error was for 1 coil pack. It was fine for a month, then after starting the truck again the check engine light came on, and we replaced all of the coil packs. Now when we start the truck, the check engine light may be on or off. At least once a week, when we start the truck the check engine light will be on. This issue has been reoccurring and has been going on for close to a year. The last 5 or 6 times we had it put on the machine there have been no errors found and our mechanic's baffled. Especially since the truck may stutter or become sluggish or shut off like before whenever the check engine light comes back on. If something is wrong with our vehicle but no errors are found we have no clue if there is truly something occurring and if it's causing serious damage and harm to our family. Our vehicle was manufactured in canada and we aren't sure if there could be issues being reported in canada that we don't know about. In addition, there are recalls that we weren't notified of but nothing pertaining to this issue.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 2 mph in reverse, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the engine. The contact pulled over and found that the engine dipstick was dry. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the pistons and rings failed to clean the cylinder walls. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that it was not a known issue. The contact spoke to varney buick gmc mazda (260 hogan rd, bangor, me 04401) who advised the contact to continue adding oil to the vehicle until it could be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.

Getting a rattling/whining sound from my car, and when i come to stop it shakes an vibrates.just purchased this vehicle about 6 months ago from a dealership,i very a little worried about this vehicle.pleae advivse me on what to do.can notafford to fix any major problems. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Takata recall, i thought that i had excessive oil leakage because there was no oil, when i just had a oil change the day before, but it had to be a excessive engine oil consumption, on my way from work i heard a very loud noise from my engine, and and a pop, on my dashboard was signaling oil pressure is low - stop engine, throughout the hold ordeal there was smoke coming into the car, when i was able to get to car dealer ship, i was charged $3400.00 to have the car fix.then i receive a letter from gmc stating that they were doing a recall on 2012 terrain relating to the same issue that was listed in the letter that was sent to me.they reject my reimbursement due to the fact that they saying the oil had to burning on the engine, and not excessive oil leakage, when in fact there was burning oil on my engine, which i feel cause the smoke within my vehicle, also the manager at mike anderson also said gmc rejected my claim due to the part numbers then match up to part numbers they have listed on the recall, when i view the list, it did list different number but the parts was the same, the car was in motion i was on the highway 294 going east to merrillville indiana, which almost caused me to have a accident in which i happen to avoid.

The car is a 2012 gmc terrain 2.4 liter eco tech-i found where gmc put this issue as a recall in 2015 for 7 years or 120,000 miles to be fixed for free-i bought my car from frank's gmc/chevorlet in kosciusko, ms in november 2017 with 111,000 miles on it-the issue was not mentioned and i have the carfax on the vehicle which mention all the service dates and none of which are related to this recall- also i never recieved any information by mail about this recall and had to do some digging to find out that it's not just me with the problem but so many others!i went to frank's gmc where i purchased the car and they are supposed to give me a call back about this problem but the guy i talked to had no idea what i was even talking about yet! 3 days late they wont even answer my calls and when i went into the office said they would have to get a number to call me back again which has not happened yet!we have priced a new motor and to get it put in-price of motor- $3,200price to put it in- $1,000warranty- 3 year with unlimited mileage-orthe parts that have to be changed out are in link below if the motor wasnt replaced:https://gm.oemdtc.com/7458/special-coverage-adjustment-excessive-engine-oil-consumption-2012-chevrolet-equinox-gmc-terrain***that's not including the timing chain which is what the problem has caused due to oil consumption from faulty piston rings not seating correctly, i burn oil and loose oil pressure resulting in a failure in the timing chain system due to the tensioner working off of oil pressure!***i have also found that there is a class action law suit going on about this same issue at this time- please click the link below for more information regarding this:https://www.classaction.org/blog/chevy-equinox-class-action-update-settlement-talks-underway.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator was flashing and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the sensors needed to be checked due to excessive oil burning. The contact requested the diagnosis in writing. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

I received a recall letter from gmc about a knocking in the engine which just started happening in my vehicle. The recall does not show up when the dealer checked the vin number in the computer. But before i could take my car in to be checked my engine died when i arrive at work which is 25 miles from my home.i had it towed to a gmc dearlership and was informed that my timing chain jumped and threw valve timing off causing internal engine failure.. I then had to replace the engine in a 5 year old vehicle, my warranty expired 3/2017 so this was not covered. When i called gmc i was told they may be able to cover some of the cost but since i did not replace the engine with another gmc engine which would have cost more i had to pay out of my pockets for this.

Car started making rattling noise on startup. Got worse. Took to a few car places and thought it was the oil. But the oil was fine. Then the engine light came on and a second later the car shut off while i was diving down the road with my two babies!!very dangerous! ran into a friend who has the same make and model car as mine and said she had the exact same problems. Has 80k miles and has already changed the timing belt five times. Car just shuts off. Extremely dangerous! i will report this to everyone i know and warn them.

Rear main seal leak, pvc valve freezes from water condensation and low temperatures: causing crank case gases to become highly pressurized and blow out the rear main seal of the engine causing a massive oil leak on the road to the rear tires possibly causing loss of control to the rear wheels causing the possibility of a fatal loss of control vehicle accident. Other possibilities oil coating entire undercarriage of vehicle causing a vehicle fire, catistrophic engine damage causing loss of control, enviromental impact 5 quarts of oil on the highway.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and did not restart. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The following day, the vehicle was towed to stark chevrolet/buick in merrill, wisconsin where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Burns oil, which gm will cover to fix but will not cover the issues that happens when oil is burnt and what it caused. Had to replace exhaust manifold, o2 sensor, catalytic converter and cam shaft senors; these i had to pay for out of pocket. Not sure exactly when it happened but was middle of 2019. Went to gmc about how to get resolved on an issue that they caused that i had to pay for, which first resulted in a 1 yr engine warranty which they pulled with out my knowledge, then after a complaint to the bbb the best they could offer was a $1000 coupon for a new car. Gm should cover those other issues since its an issue they know and fixed.

Janurary 7th 2018 my 2012 gmc terrain ran out of oil even though it was already fixed 6 months prior for special adjustment coverage 16118 which had pistons, piston rings, timing chain etc. Fixed to repair the oil consumption issue (see adjustments 14882 and 16118. Coverage 14882 is a result of failure to correctly fix the 16118 and is a direct result of 14882 and gmc states they will cover me if this happens. Gmc customer service says my vin # is not covered under this coverage. If its the same exact issue for (model/engine) why would vin # matter? on top of that i took my vehicle to another dealer (dealership b) as i brought my vehicle to lets call it dealership a so many times before with the same issue. Dealership b filled it with oil and sent me on my way. I told them to make sure the issue was fixed. They said they test drove it and everything is fine and they didnt do anything but put oil in it and test. On the way home jan. 7th the same day the car starting dying on me, stalling and making popping noises and jerking wildly which is why i brought it in the first place. Dealership b knowing dealership a "fixed" this issue 6 months before so they said they would not fix it even though they know for sure this issue was caused by coverage 14882. I told dealership a this and they said they are only going with what gmc says which is that my vin # is not covered but they were willing to split the cost with me (roughly $850, admitting partial fault, lol) i said no and then pleaded with them that i shouldnt pay anything cause im covered. They ended the conversation with the vehicle is not coveredbecause coverage 16882 is not related in any way to 14882 but even gmc and dealership b says they are directly related. Who is lying here? i pay $450 a month for a giant suv that sits in my garage. Gmc is knowingly breaking the law, how can they do this to so many people?

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that he was informed that there was no oil inside the vehicle upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic for the first oil change. No warning lights appeared on the instrument panel prior to the discovery. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was given a voucher to have the vehicle inspected. The contact was informed that the failure was due to defective piston rings that were too expensive to be replaced. As a result, the engine became inoperable. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. Prior to the engine failure, the contact also stated that the vehicle revved and accelerated independently without warning, while driving at various speeds. The contact noted that prior to the engine failure, both windshield wipers were defective due to the windshield wiper transmission. Both windshield wipers were replaced on three separate occasions. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Vehicle began to use excessive amount of oil and idel up and down and sometimes even shuts down. After about 3 months while driving on the interstate it began to shut down while in motion. I called for someone to check the vehicle out and he arrived called someone to check the vehicle and he actually told me it seems to be the motor gone bad but he asked would i drive it back home if he followed behind. It literally scared me and my 4 children to death when it shut down while in motion with that kind of speed so i don't trust putting my children in it now. I don't think its safe at all. The vehicle i once thought was perfect for my family is turning out to be a nightmare.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While idling, the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off. While driving at various speeds, the dashboard lights suddenly began to dim and the speed reduced to 15 mph. The "engine power reduced" message appeared. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions and the electronic control module was replaced and the throttle body was cleaned, but the failures continued. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 32,000.

When i have my eco light at stopping or sitting it will cause the vehicle to shake or like it stall or wants to cut off cut off. When the eco is turned i don't have that problem. The engine is notown what is this problem? this happens on street not the highway on when sitting at a stop.

Engine blew in vehicle due to excessive oil consumption from piston ring damage.car had only 95k miles. Vehicle was being driven at 20mph, bucked and turned off completely. We notified gm dealership at every oilchange of excessive consumption. We put in a quart of oil every 1000 miles .a consumption test was never recommended . Wethen could not do one as the engine blew. Also damaged exhaust manifold , o2 sensors and cat converter . We have also replaced the manifold and sensors and have the cat converter repair this week. All told over 5000$ in damagesthat we have paid out of pocket. There was no recall for the piston rings. Some vehicles have since been issued a letter indicating that emissions issues due to excessive oil consumption would be repaired at no cost. Our car apparently did not meet that criteria . A lawsuit against gm has been litigated and won for the excessive consumption . We are part of the class action however have already been denied once for unknown reason. We resubmitted 3 months ago and have heard nothing. It is criminal that these vehicles have not been completely recalled .

Car is misfiring and shutting off while driving. I was driving and car stooped in the middle of the street. I turned on my car and pulled off and car cut off.

The vehicle has excessive oil consumption.i have to add 3 qts between every oil change to bring it back to the correct level.i know when it needs this because the valve train gets very loud as it is starved for lubrication. It also will have irregular rpm levels from time to time as well as hard starts.vehicle has 40k miles on it. I have been having to do this for the last 10-12k miles until i heard of this bulletin.

Stationary sensor lights come on steering monitoring warning also reduced engine power then doesn't come on after turning off and it doesn't turn off like it should it is like the engine begins choking.

Oil consumption is out of control! when i bought the suv used at 63k i could hear within 65k i need oil just from the sound of the engine. I bought a 5 qt at wal-mart because there was less than a quart on the stick. I got and oil change prior on 8-13-19 mechanic showed i was low already at 66k and wasn't due for another till 72,780 i'm at 72k and engine needs oil! hope the class action lawsuit abides to my complaint.

2.4 ecotec engines excessive oil consumption affects thousands of gmc/chevy consumers vehicles 2011-2013.although in final stages of class action, gmc continues to deny the serious nature of the problem.oil indicator does not illuminate, engines blown, failed catalytic converters, rear main seals, timing chains and more.not only a huge financial impact for owners but also a serious safety issue.gmc suggests a piston ring failure but only offers resolution to very few owners.please consider a recall on these vehicles.you will find more information here: https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/consumer-products/auto-news/857897-gm-class-action-says-chevrolet-equinox-suvs-burn-oil-alarming-rate/ and here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/174877126561662/and so much more online.please consider a recall.the class action is not for the benefit of the consumers.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact purchased the vehicle used. Both the dealer and the manufacturer did not inform the contact that there was a special recall on the vehicle regarding excessive oil consumption caused by an oil ring malfunction. The malfunction caused the engine to seize. The vehicle was taken to carbone buick gmc of utica (5700 hoatio st, utica, ny 13502, (888) 471-8416) who stated that the vehicle had 2,000 miles over the 100,000 mile limit to be covered under the special recall. The dealer, after checking with the manufacturer, offered to pay for one third of the cost to replace the engine. The repair would cost $4,000. The vehicle remained at the dealer and had not been repaired. The contact was referred by his state's attorney general's office to nhtsa. The failure mileage was 122,000.

Car jerks and stalls when idling and foot on the brake. Have to put the car in neutral when at a stop light or sign.if not, the car jerks and stalls. This started happening last month. Reduced power notification light came on today along with the engine light.

My husband started the terrain, backed out of garage & it died.it started again then.he was driving it 10 miles from our home & when driving on highway in the country, the car would not accelerate over 20 mph even as he pressed down the accelerator.when he reached his destination. He shut off the car & tried to restart it to move it & it started.couple days later, it started to move in garage however when wanting to remove it from garage, the car would not start.hasn't since.i was ckg oil periodically & when needed so there was still oil in it.towed it to dealer & told us the timing chain was bad.same as what gmc & chevy 2011 & 2012 cars are dealing with.bad oil consumption.gmc nor our dealership who sold us this car 2 years ago will back their product.they shouldn't have sold is this car in the first place since there was already a law suit against chevrolet & gmc for this problem.i still owe money on this car &no one will help with this dilemma.

Code-p0014-camshaft positionb timing over-advanced or system.code-p0300 random/muitiple cylinder misfire.computerized engine analysis.recalls#50490-50491

Pcv system froze...air cleaner has water in it// rear main seal pushed out due to excessive crankcase pressure. #14882 special coverage adjustment covers exact issue however my vin is not included. Requesting my vin be added to #14882 special adjustment as it applies to my exact make/model/year and issue.

My car jerks and stalls when idling and my foot is on the brake. I have to put the car in neutral or shut it off and restart altogether when at a stop light or when i will be doing any stopping. If not, the car jerks and stalls. This happened in downtown nashville, tn! very dangerous! reduced power notification light came on as well. I have had it in the shop multiple times and they all say it is from excess oil consumption. Have already had the timing chain replaced due to said oil issue. Driving this car with my kids is extremely dangerous. Why is there not a recall on this? this has been an ongoing issue with my car since late 2015.

My car oil consumption is excessive. I have repetitive codes:p0089, p0300, p0366, p228d, p0014 and the check engine light being on. Car is jerking back and forth when at a stop light. Tapping noise made also. Every 1000-1500 my car is always needing oil (at least 2 quarts) and i also have to put more than the usual amount of gas in it then when i first purchased.

Vehicle was started after sitting in a parking lot for 8 hours while i was at work. Season was winter. Vehicle noted to be running rough, barely driveable, check engine light on.

Timing belt stretched and jumped. Cylinder head broken. Timing belt jumped while driving, began making a very loud rattling noise.

Says powertrain control module failure. Also oxygen sensor on the my gmc app. It keeps cutting off in the middle of road.

I was driving about 2 months ago when the low oil pressure light went on on my dashboard and it said stop engine now with a very loud alarm.i pulled into a gas station to check the oil and i did have to add about 3 quarts of oil. So i assumed this would fix the issue but when i started driving about 1 minute after i started driving again the low oil pressure light and alarm came and it again said stop engine now. I finally got it home and i turned the car off and then tried to restart the car and it did not start.i had it looked at by a few mechanics and they said the engine was gone that it failed the compression test 3 time and the vavles were bent .i had just got a oil change about 1 month prior to this .

Engine stalls when at low idle while reducing speed i.e., at stop light.will immediately restart and stall when placed into drive or reverse.hade camshaft position sensor intake replaced.stalling resumed within two weeks and now check engine light is on.

I have owned my 2012 gmc terrain for almost two years. In that time have had to have several repairs done. My check engine light comes on and every time it does the dealership finds a new issue. I was advised by the dealership that there was a recall for my engine. However, will not take care of the issue with out an oil consumption test and charging me each time they put in oil. The vehicle runs hard and makes a lot of noise. I have already put in several thousands in repairs since i purchased the vehicle and would just like the vehicle to run correctly.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated while her husband was driving 70 mph, the vehicle started making an abnormal sound before stalling. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an extreme amount of engine oil. The vehicle was taken to nimnicht buick gmc (11503 philips hwy, jacksonville, fl 32256, (904) 733-1616) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

I turned the ignition off, exited the vehicle, walked 10-20 steps from the vehicle and the vehicle restarted itself. This is a known issue with this year, make and model.please add this particular vehicle to the recall list.

My car consumes oil in between oil changes, catalytic converter has gone bad which should not be happening in a 2012, and rear passenger door electrical failure. They have been recalled in other areas for the oil consumption and catalytic converter but not for my specific vin number. Gmc needs to recall the terrains to fix the oil consumption, catalytic converter issue, and the rear passenger doors. The oil consumption and catalytic converter are two major issues that should be fixed immediately by gmc since they know it is an issue with that year.

While backing out of driveway, the engine stopped without warning and vehicle would not restart.after being towed for service, we learned there was almost no oil left, causing the timing chains to fail and the engine was damaged beyond repair.we had driven the vehicle less than 12 hours prior and there were no warning lights such as low oil, check engine, etc.the vehicle has just under 78,000 miles on it and should have been 1,200 miles and 2 months from needing an oil change.this model year vehicle is known to be equipped with faulty piston ring assemblies which lead to excessive oil consumption.additionally, there is no oil pressure sensor to alert the driver to the low oil; consequently, this misleads the owner into operating the vehicle with inadequate oil levels and causing engine damage.complete engine failure can occur suddenly, creating an enormous safety hazard; we are lucky we were not driving at highway speeds or in heavy traffic at the time it occurred.gm issued a special coverage adjustment, but it was not nearly adequate to cover the extent of damage that can and does occur as a result of this defect, leaving many drivers stuck with unreliable, unsafe vehicles or astronomically expensive repairs.

Car is burning excessive amount of oil. Now the engine has seized up

I received an oil change at the dealership, within less than a thousand miles i checked my oil and it was completly dry,no oil on the dipstick at all. I added 2 quarts of oil during that weekend and then went to dealership the next day. When i went to dealership they told me my oil was about .5 quart overfilled after having an oil change 1000 miles prior, adding 2 quarts of oil additionally and only returning to have them check it a day later. So leaving the dealership i was told to drive 1000 miles then return to have them check it. After 1000 miles unreturned again and they told me my oil was too low. They then told me to drive another 1000 miles and return once again for another check at which time they again filled my oil to the recommended amount. I'm only st about 500 miles into the 2nd check after driving 1000 miles and i checked my oil at home this weekend and it's already low. Very frustrated because if i wasnt checking it, and i was doing what inwas supposed to by getting oil changes then it seems like in less than 500 i'd be low and likely blow my engine if i continue driving not worrying about checking cause i should have plenty of oil given i had recently had an oil change and was well within the limits before needing to return for my next service. During the first waiting period to drive 1000 miles my car started knocking in the engine, was just dieing when i would take my foot off break to accelerate and overall was running very rough. Recently was told some of the codes that were coming up when i had it hooked up for the check engine light being on, that the codes could be related to the oil consumption and problems it was causing for rest of car.

Excessive engine oil consumption.timing chain failure. Pistons, rings, exhaust manifold, muffler, door regulator, wiper motor, transmission failure. Vehicle cannot be driven

I have a gmc 2012 slt 1 with 2.4 cylinder car that i bought in 2011. It has 75k miles now.recently got to know from my dealer that there is a issue with the engine oil consumption and piston needs to be replaced and was referred to a special coverage information for 2011 vehicle with similar issue but not for a 2012 vehicle - http://gm.oemdtc.com/3953/15285-excessive-engine-oil-consumption-2011-chevrolet-equinox-gmc-terrainif my 2012 car bought in 2011 is also giving the same problem as confirmed by certified gmc service dealer, then why is it not covered under gm's special coverage. Vin: [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My pcv valve clogged and caused the rear main seal to blow out. This is a common known problem with this vehicle and gm has recalled certain vins with the same issue and the same engine. Now my car is at the dealership having $1200 worth of work done that could have been prevented with a $12 part. I just had my vehicle at a gm certified shop 7 months ago for warranty work and was not notified of this possible problem.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact noticed that there was oil leaking onto the ground. The contact inspected under the hood and saw that there was no oil on the dipstick. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the engine was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The contact stated that after two oil changes, the oil was extremely black on the dipstick. The contact stated that the engine had consumed over 2 quarts of oil after 2,500 miles. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that an oil consumption test was necessary to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,000.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle restarted, but stalled again and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the camshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Advantage chevrolet of bolingbrook (located at 115 s west frontage rd, bolingbrook, il 60440, (630) 243-4460) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

I was traveling on the toll way and went to pass a vehicle going below the speed limit. Upon acceleration (approx 53 mph), i heard a muffled pop in the engine compartment and white smoke trailed the vehicle.no warning lights went off prior and i do not recall seeing any after the "pop".i stopped the vehicle and turned off the engine, opened the hood to find flames under the engine in vicinity of the oil pan. I was unable to put out the flames and the fire consumed the vehicle.i vehicle was well maintainedand have no idea what the origin of the fire was.

Rear main seal blown due to condensation freezing in such cold temperatures. This happened on my 10 minute drive home from work. Engine was shut off and hasn't been restarted. Mechanic stated there were at least 4 other vehicles this week with the same issue, within two shops. A recall on certain vehicles was issued, but not mine. I would like this to at least be investigated to possibly expand this recall. Car will not get fixed until at least tuesday, as they are short on the bolt kit due to high demand. Thank you.

As i was driving home from work on 2/1/18 on i94 at 72 mph, my car starting sputtering and smoking. It then started making a very loud noise and my warning light came on saying to shut off my engine. The engine shut off and i had to coast to the shoulder of the interstate. I called roadside assistance who sent a tow truck and towed me to my mechanic's garage. The mechanic looked at it the next morning and advised there was a hole in the engine block and all the oil leaked out of the hole, leaving oil all over the undercarriage of my vehicle. I filed an insurance claim, the insurance adjustor looked at it monday and deemed it to be mechanical failure. I have 110,000 miles on the vehicle.

After owning this car for over 4 years we are just now finding out that general motors has issued what they call special bulletins on the excessive oil consumption problem we have been having.we first started noticing the problem in february of 2018 when the car started vibrating, shaking, and stalling while driving.i took the car to firestone to have the oil checked and the car was shaking so bad that they refused to even look at it for fear of being held liable for damages.come to find out that my car only had about 1.5 quarts of oil in it and after the oil was changed it began riding smooth again.however we noticed after about 6 weeks it was low on oil again.basically we ended up having to get a oil change every 6-7 weeks or at least add a quart of oil to the car ever 3 weeks.now we've come to find out that special bulletins(bulletin #16118 or 14882) have been issued on this problem with my terrain.my problem is no letter or contact was ever sent to notify me of this issue.my car has been to the local gmc dealer on multiple occasions and iwould like to know why i was never notified about this problem or these bulletins.the problem i have now is after reading the bulletin we've come to find out that my car may be out of the warranty phase.i currently have 132,000 miles on it and the tsp says 7 1/2 years or 120,000 miles.if we had been made aware of the tsp we would have surely taken it to the dealership to have it check.better yet, when my car was at the dealership for a fuel line problem or repair of the moon roof we would have expected to be notified of any tsp's then.i strongly feel that this excessive oil consumption issue with my car should be fixed, as it had less than 120,000 miles on it when the problem first started occurring over a year and 1/2 ago and we were never notified in a timely fashion.

"fuel sensor" issue. I took my car to gmc dealership to get the battery replaced after only 4 years and while they had it the fuel sensor went out and i could not tell how much gas i had in the car.they would not repair it because they claimed it went out on its on.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving 50 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. Cavender buick gmc west in san antonio, texas was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 8-4147028398. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

I was driving my 2012 gmc terrain and as soon as i slowed down or stopped my car would shut off and i would have to try to restart it. Fortunately, i made it home without having to stop. As i was turning in my driveway it shut off again. Onstar suggests it may be a timing issue. Help! i took it to the dealership to get a new battery and when i got my car back the fuel sensor was not working. It was working before they got it and gmc collierville refused to fix it.i can't afford all these major repairs and will not by another if gmc does not resolve the consumer's issues.

On the 2.4l ecotec engine, the pcv orifice in the intake manifold becomes clogged which causes oil to be pulled into the engine combustion chamber and burned. This causes an excess build up of carbon inside the engine and on the spark plugs which in turn causes the vehicle to idle roughly and stall out while sitting idle, such as at a stop light. Gm has issued a special coverage service bulletin (#: 14882) but only for specific vin's. It has become known that there are many other vehicles that fall under the year groups stated by gm in their service bulletin, even if it's a vin that they deem is safe from the problem, but they refuse to recall the vehicles even if they are affected by the known problem. This is a safety issue that causes the vehicle to die while trying to leave from a stationary position once the engine has warmed up, for example passing through an intersection after a red light.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. When the vehicle was started, the engine began to rumble and quiver. While in drive, the rumbling in the engine persisted and the vehicle shut off while stopped. The contact was able to restart the vehicle once it shut off. The vehicle was taken to schepel buick gmc (3209 w lincoln hwy, merrillville, in 46410, (219) 488-9836) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain actuators failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

I have had nothing but problems with my oil consumption on my vehicle, when i first got the vehicle, it started making some noises and i didn't know what it was , until i took it in to have it looked at, it was low on oil, so i had to pay for the oil change and the fee to have it looked at, for oil consumption test,i have only had the vehicle for 1 1/2 years and the oil consumption is astronomical, seems like i have to have an oil change every 2 months and i have to add oil seems live every 1000 miles, this is a major problem, with the 2011 gmc terrain and i think they need to recall these vehicles or fix the problem, i just go an oil change 11/2017 and was low on oil 12/2017, so i had to add oil again, until it is time to have my oil change. Now my car is leaking oil and so i have to take it in again, i have had to have my camshafts fixed 2 times, this is a problem. I am not rich, but i have to incur the charge. I still have 5 years left to pay this car off.i just wanted to voice my concern with this vehicle.

I put the vehicle in park, turned the ignition off, removed the key from the ignition and exited the vehicle. I got some items from my trunk and went about my business. I returned to my vehicle a few minutes later only to notice the lights were on and it was running.i was unable to unlock the vehicle using the key fob and had to manually unlock the door.i put the key in the ignition to turn the vehicle off again and it would not turn off.i wiggled the gear shift and it finally turned off.this is the third time this has happened. Please add my vehicle to the recall list before someone gets injured or before there is property damage.

Excessive engine oil consumption 2 quarters per every 3000 miles. Vehicle is now 71k miles i changed the oil 3 weeks ago and it was missing 2.5 quarters of oil i have driven the car around 800 miles after the oil change and is half way on the deep stick am afraid if i keep driving it for 3 to 4k miles it will be very low on oil again and i purchased this car 7 months ago fro the dealership and it had 55k miles at the time i always noticed to be low of motor oil and i thought it was normal but it's getting worse by the time going by. I think is too soon to be burning motor oil at those low miles.

Me and my wife own a 2012 gmc terrain 2.4l engine. Oil consumption is 1 quart every 500 miles the dealership located at 16400 w colfax ave golden co had are vehicle for two weeks running diagnostics tests and using a on board computer hooked up to the vehicle with no answer for why the vehicle was losing power and gas pedal going to the floor with no codes pulling up as they mimicked the problem with a on board computer hooked up to the vehicle while a gm tech test drove the terrain this is a major problem for driving on the highway its like going 45 mph on the highway and slamming on you'r brakes then the vehicle kicks back into gear.my wife is a nurse and needs her vehicle to get to and from work especially with covid-19 if she cant make it to work people could die covid is nothing to play around with and nurses are not allowed to call in while covid is going on this problem with this terrain needs to be investigated if a gm certified tech does not know what is going on with this vehicle who would.

The camshaft position actuator solenoid on my vehicle failed as i was crossing an intersection, almost causing an accident.from my research, this is a very, very common occurence in these engines that gm has known about since 2010.it is the result of a defective part and oil consumption issues.gm issued a voluntary recall for the same exact part in the 2011 terrain models, yet did not issue any recalls for the 2012 models, even though it is the exact same part and the exact same motor.this is a serious safety issue that causes the engine to lose power at a critical time - when the driver attempts to accelerate.i have no doubt that this issue has caused accidents based on my experience when the failure occured.

09/08/18 i put the vehicle in park, turned the ignition off, removed the key from the ignition and exited the vehicle. I got some items from my trunk and went about my business. About 45 minutes later, i returned to my vehicle only to notice the lights were on and it was running.i was unable to unlock the vehicle using the key fob and had to manually unlock the door.i put the key in the ignition to turn the vehicle off again and it would not turn off.i wiggled the gear shift and it finally turned off.this is the second time this has happened. Please add my vehicle to the recall list as this is the exact issue that the other gmc terrain 2012 are having.

Within two days' time, my 2012 gmc terrain stalled four different times, all at low speeds.the first time was backing out of the driveway; the other three happened the following day starting up from city street intersections.my concern is being rear-ended in those situations, or beginning to make a left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic thinking you have enough time and then having the car stall.another concern is having the stalling issue occur at higher speeds, although that never happened to me.i took the car into the dealership on that second day, and they replaced the intake camshaft position actuator solenoid valve.the problem has not repeated itself since.thank you.

During a bad storm the windshield wipers went past the windshield and the motor froze up motor started humming then locked up.

2012 gmc terrain makes a clicking noise when pressing acceleration pedal. I habe changed oil, plugs and belts but still can't find source of tapping. Also my tires are new, less then a year and constantly show low pressure. I have checked for nails but none found.

Excessive oil consumption, ecotec2.4 engine

Timing chain broke at 63,000 miles probably distroying the engine. It was on a highway and in motion.

I parked, turned the vehicle off and exited the vehicle.the vehicle was parked for approximately an hour and a half before i re-entered the vehicle to retrieve some items from the passenger side. As i closed the door and used the key fob to lock the vehicle, it restarted itself.this has happened multiple times and the dealership tells me that it is not their issue and that it is a manufacturing issue.please add this particular vehicle to the recall call list for this issue prior to personal injury or damages occurring.

Just purchased this vehicle 5 months ago and have a major oil leak which is going to cost over $1000, mechanic told me there is a recall 14882 called gmc customer service and was told my vin is not covered. How do you have a recall for the same year make modelbut not all are included but all having the same issue? this is a serious issue and the vehicle needs to be recalled before someone get seriously hurt, especially when the vehicle is just cutting off in traffic

The oil in my car seems to disappear. I get my oil changed and after about 500 miles the oil is gone. There is no warning light. The menu says i had 50 percent life left on the oil.check the oil and it is ike a rust color. Y engine had stopped. It will not crank. Now i have a car that's needs anew engine. I've looked online about this issue. Find out that people that have the same car has had the same problem. Something needs to b gone about this issue. I have no warrinity left on the car. It all has to b out of pocket.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving, an abnormal noise was heard between the engine and transmission. Also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000.

Have a serious oil consumption problem have to have oil changed every 500 miles, it starts to shake when start up it turns off keep getting camshaft codes also got misfire code

This engine burns through oil at an accelerated rate. My car has 48,000 miles on it and the engine is almost dead. The car stalls or shuts off when stopped at a red light, stop sign etc.

Purchased 2012 gmc terrain. Started running poorly and eventually check engine light came on. Was unable to get an inspection sticker so i took it to gm dealer. I was told that i needed timing chain replaced. $1800. I then asked if it could have anything to do with the recal letter l recieived that specified excessive oil consumption. The dealer advised me it had nothing to do with timing chain. I refused to pay and took it to my own mechanic. He found lack of oil and sludge in my engine. After flushing it out and putting new oil in the check engine light went off. I then took it back to gm and requested oil consumption test. The dealer determined that my vehicle burned 1 quart of oil at 1000 miles. The vehicle failed the consumption test. They now have advised me that they are replacing pistons, rings and timing chain. Very frustrated that i was lied to about this issue and have spent alot of money out of pocket that was totally not needed to be spent.

On jan 1st it was 3f out my wife wormed up her terrain we drove it approximately 12 miles when we started to smell something burning. Next came the engine knocking really bad. We stopped the terrain and had it towed to the dealership found out the rear main seal blew with such force that the oil covered the muffler. This happened from the pcv being plugged and/or frozen from the cold weather. I recently found a service bulletin for that year make and model that indicates that will happen and there is a special coverage for that.(14882: special coverage adjustment) i also received a letter from gmc about high oil consumption warranty. The terrain may exhibit engine oil consumption. That is also a part of that 14882:adjustment now to the point i was told that this issue my wife's terrain would be covered under the 100k/5year power train warranty our terrain only has 71k miles on it. But the 5year are up. So gm is not taking responsibility for this issue according to both special coverage the 14882: they adjusted to 10 years or 120k miles but they are claiming even though its for that year make and model and engine and that everything that's listed is what happened to our gmc its not for our terrain. I told them i also had a letter that they sent to us stating the oil consumption that has a adjustment of 7years 6months/120k warranty witch was part of that 14882: special coverage they still will not take responsibility for fixing. I believe we are getting taken advantage of in this situation.they are making us pay for all repairs it may need a new engine in result of the rear seal blowing because it lost all the oil. But we would not know till the repairs start orafter all repairs are made and the engine seizes.i also was told from the dealer that if we fix it and drive it down the road there is no guaranty that it will not happen again.

In june 9, 2019 my engine light came on in park in my driveway. June 10, 2019 i took my terrain in for service and to have the engine light looked at cavender west in san antonio, tx. Where i purchased the vehicle in december 31,2018. Cavender called to inform us that the timing chain was bad. I did some research because avehicle with 60,000 miles on it shouldn't have a bad timing chain, i wouldn't think. I have called both cavender and gm with no help. I have read numerous complaints for the same issue. I had filed a case with gm about this know problem that still continues. Gm is very well aware of the problem.i think this timing chain nightmare should be recalled.

My terrain recently started having ā€œexcessiveā€¯ engine oil use.during the last two oil changes the dipstick has not registered any oil.i took it to a gmc dealership, but they only checked oil consumption after 1000 miles and the vehicle is at 121,000 miles currently.i donā€™t believe it is fair for them to allow an issue of this magnitude to continue, because it wasnā€™t using 1 qt of oil in 1000 miles, prior to the vehicle reaching 150,000 miles.i have to keep watching the oil levels in order to not damage my engine due to a known issues with the 2012 gmc terrain.i also have to miss work & drive 30 miles to a dealership in order to have issues documented.i feel like they are just hoping i run out of time & mileage, since the recall is for a certain amount of time.

Gm used faulty piston rings resulting in excessive oil consumption. This resulted in blown engines. This vehicle also does not have a oil gauge or low oil light to warn the consumer of the know oil consumption issue. I was driving home and the engine started to ping as i got to the driveway. I turned off the engine, and it would not start again. I took it to gm and they said the engine was blown. See #16118-01: special coverage-excessive engine oil consumption- (jan 28,2020) gm was sued, but are denying most claims. See terrain-equinox oil consumption recall group on facebook. The engine blew due to the oil leaking out of the pistons.

Excessive oil consumption 3k miles 2 quarters of oil consumption

My terrain is stalling really bad some days and sometimes no problems at all. It does it more when going into reverse, i have to keep giving gas to get backed up. It has also died on me when i slow to a stop like at a light. This is really frustrating!!

I was driving down the highway when mt timing chain snapped gm has been no help with this situation

As i was driving down the road at 55 mph hour my suv began to shake extremely and was throttling at very high rpm's and the suv thrash to sudden halt and continued to shake and idle very high and loud. I tried to hit the gas to get myself off the road as i was on a 2 lane highway with my 4 year old son in the car, and the engine revved and the rpm's spiked but i went not more than 15 mph, at the same time the following errors appeared on my screen: 1) service stabaili trak2) engine power is reduced slowly i was able to safely get the car up to 35 mph and get us home safe. I did some research and seems that this is a very well known issue with gmc so i contacted gmc and was basically given the runaround. I took the car to a gmc dear today and was told it was the fuel pump that needed replaced.....

I've had this vehicle for 3+ years and right from the beginning everytime i changed the oil was told it was low and asked where it was going. My mechanic told me it was a crankshaft sensor code and just change the oil and so i did and the check engine light would go off . Then one day 800 miles before i'm due to change the oil it starts jerking while stopped and check engine light came on display stated engine power reduced then it kept stalling out then when i saw an autozone store they checked the code which was the camshaft sensor again limped home and did nothing later when i started the vehicle to go to work it made an awful clanging noise and shut it off immediately had it towed to the dealership where they said it blew a rear seal and would need an 8400 dollar new engine the special warranty coverage is well known by the dealerships and to gm so why was the consumer not been notified that this could be a problem if i was told about this i would not have bought this vehicle and i guess that's what they wanted a sale.now i have a vehicle that i still have monthly payments and they want to charge me for a new engine on top of it ludricas i say

While driving on highway the message came on losing oil pressure, shut engine off. By the time i was able to pull off the highway to the side the engine ceased up. Oil gasket blew off.

We received a notice in the mail regarding our vehicle with our vin #. And it mentioned our particular size engine had a recall for potential emissions part condition of degraded catalytic converter and/or oxygen sensors caused by excessive engine oil consumption affecting some vehicle from our year, make, and model. We were surprised to receive this notice because we always park in reverse and we had noticed how it was turning the curb side black coming from the tail pipe. We did receive one other notice before and took it to the dealership to have it maintenance but my honest opinion i do believe they did anything to our vehicle because it was running the same and also took it to midas after taking it to the dealership because it ran the same. Anyhow i hope upon receiving this other notice we can actually maybe get reimbursed and actually get it fixed finally.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While the vehicle was at a stop light, it stalled. The vehicle was restarted and functioned normally. The contact also mentioned that the oil consumption was high. Every 1,800 miles, oil needed to be added to the vehicle and an abnormal noise was detected. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the timing chain was failing and a motor flush was performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,000.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. The contact also stated that while at a stop the engine stalled. The failure occurred on two different occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer both the times where it was diagnosed that the entire engine and the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact stated that only the engine was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,122.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 80 mph, the vehicle suddenly sputtered, the check engine indicator illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to barkly cadillac (3575 sky land blvd, tuscaloosa, al) where it was diagnosed that the engine valve spring fractured and destroyed the engine. The engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 118,000.

The truck burns oil incredibly fast. Due to this ongoing issue, it caused the timing chain to break and we had to spend nearly $800 for engine repairs. Even after having it in the shop numerous times for the same issue, the truck still eats through oil incredibly fast and it seems to only be getting worse. I received a letter in the mail saying that there was a recall regarding this but that they would send me info through the mail on how to go about fixing this issue, but i never received anything else about the recall.

?on april 16th our son was driving on fairview rd. And traveling through a green light when a car that ran a red light hit him. ?his car ? a gmc 2012 terrain was hit multiple times ? driver's front end, front end and spun around from the force and hit on the passenger side. No airbags deployed?[xxx] was immediately contacted by on star, they called police, his car was totaled?on 4/21 i emailed gmc and asked what department i would contact to file a complaint about the front and side airbags not deployingcall from gmc 866-790-5700ext. 22745 said on voice mail ? the airbag did not deploy as it should have?he made a case number [xxx]gmc has since declared this was a low threshold event - no need for airbag deployment - yet the car was totaled and our son has whiplash and contusionsinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

High oil consumption. No leaks under car. I've to add 3 quarter of oil every week.

Engine failure due to oil consumption no check oil light came on. Happens with no warning.

Tl * the contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact was driving 5 mph when the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 3,600.

The headlight system on this vehicle leaves a lot to be desired.the headlights are veiled somehow so that there is no illumination above the headlights with low beam.when driving in hilly areas, the forward projection of the headlights is very limited when traveling down hill.the hi beams illuminate well, but when driving in the country with oncoming traffic and low beams in hilly areas, the view of the side of the road ahead is very restricted.if i had driven this vehicle at night before i bought it, i doubt that i would have bought it, it's that bad.

My 2012 terrain is getting water in the rear left tail light. I was told that it was a vented tail light and the vent was blocked by dirt and debris and they would have to replace the taillight and replace both seals. When i lift the hatchback up waterdrains out from the interior side of the hatch back into the vehicle. Gmc of watertown connecticut says that this is not covered under my extended warranty. I called gmc corporation and they said that thiswas a defect but is normal with these vehicles. Gmc case number 8'3054294483.i have the better business bureau auto lineinvestigating the problem and that case number is pgm1719802.gmc told me the water in the tail light can short out my electrical systems and this defect has beenby known gmc from 2011.since i purchased this car new in 2013 i have had multipleproblems such as having the back camera replaced twice, front navigation screen going black, stabilizer malfunction which was also a problem with this vehicle when it came off the assembly line, having the computerupdated every year because they say of all the computer chip modules that are installed in this vehicle, just to name a few which are all documented with gmc.i am submitting this to make the federal government aware that this defect is potentially a hazard to the electrical system and has been known to gmc for a long time and they have not corrected the situation.their solution is replacing the tail light at a cost of $254 without tax.i believe this is a serious defect and if you require more information i will comply to any requests that you have.also all conversations with gmc corporation and bbb auto line were recorded if needed.thank you for your time.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the contact drove over a piece of a tire in the road. The tire struck the fuel line and caused the fuel line to become detached. As a result, gasoline fuel began to spill over the highway.the vehicle was stopped and towed to a dealer for diagnosis and the fuel line was replaced. The dealer informed the contact that there was nothing to protect the fuel line from subsequent contact with road debris. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 18,000.

I started out driving on highway road at approximately 5:45pm traffic was moderate, my speed was about 30-35 mph.all of a sudden i heard a clunk and then alarm ding from the dash as well as message "service stabiltrak" then "reduced engine power".i was unable to go any faster than 25mph.i drove in this mode for about 2 miles in traffic, when reaching open highway (no traffic) the vehicle would not shift by itself.i had to accelerate then let off the gas, tap pedal then the vehicle would shift.i was able to do this multiple times until reaching about 45mph.i pulled off into a neighborhood, shut vehicle off to see if this would reset something, it did not.the vehicle was in this state when i arrived at the dealership service department at approximately 6:05pm.dealership logged following on service request:5043 found code p228c ran diag could not duplicate problem fuel psi at spec raises to spec test drove on highway did not duplicate condition found no bull on condition test drive numerous time, could not duplicate concern.miles out 5067.

My vehicle has excessive oil consumption including the need for frequent oil refilling, combined with audible rattle and knocking sound.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that he was driving approximately 60-70 mph when he heard a loud noise as the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull off the road. After inspecting the vehicle, he found that the fuel line was fractured and all of the gasoline spilled out from the vehicle and onto the highway.the police were contacted and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis where the contact was advised that the fuel line needed to be replaced. The fuel line was replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 12,000.

After stopping at mailbox the low fuel illuminated, the fuel gauge indicated empty.the tank was half full prior to the 12 mile trip home from town. Not sure when the problem occurred, because it might have taken a few minutes to pump out 8 or 9 gallons of gas, however it was on this12 mile trip home.6 miles of highway at 55 mph and 5 miles of paved county road at 30 mph and 1 mile of gravel road at 20 mph.after the low fuel indication the engine was stopped, fuel was added from a container, and when the engine was started the fuel streamed out on the ground.the vehicle was towed to a local repair facility, because it was closer than the dealer.gas line and clamp were replaced. The mechanic indicated the plastic gas line and plastic clamp were hanginglow, and no protective cove over it.

Car is burning excessive amount of oil. Now the engine has seized up

My daughter was driving to a friends house.she lost all power, and the vehicle would not start back up.there was 3/4 tank of gas in it.we had it towed to a nearby shop to have it looked at.upon the vehicle leaving it had a lot of gas on the gravel road.when it made it to the shop there was obvious fuel line issues.this vehicle has not been fixed yet, still waiting on a replacement line from a dealership.this is something that gm should have had recalled and fixed immediately.this might have been an issue that would have been fixed due to it still under a manufacturers warranty, but i do not have access to that.the shop where the work is going to get fixed at said this was covered up to 150,000 miles.if this was an issue to that mileage, it should be extended to the life of the vehicle.

While driving a short distance on a city street i heard a thud followed by a grinding noise and lack of power. Vehicle was towed to a trusted mechanic that i have known and used for years. Diagnosed with a crack in the transfer case. Mechanic had difficulty finding a part and was informed by someone at the gmc dealer that this part was on back order because of an issue known by gmc but a recall had not been issued. New part would not be available for over a month and repairs were needed since it is my primary vehicle. A used part with a warranty was found and was installed for a total of $1500. Vehicle power train warranty was expired. Less than 3 months after transfer case was replaced with a used part - the replacement part cracked in the same exact spot as the original. Luckily, the part was still covered by a warranty but local mechanic recommended diagnosis by dealer to determine if there is an issue with the transmission. Contacted gmc to see if they were aware of the issue and they said they were not.

Have a serious oil consumption problem have to have oil changed every 500 miles, it starts to shake when start up it turns off keep getting camshaft codes also got misfire code

Vehicle was started after sitting in a parking lot for 8 hours while i was at work. Season was winter. Vehicle noted to be running rough, barely driveable, check engine light on.

Transfer case went at 67k just bought it used at 63k. I had no warranty only 60 day from used dealer i bought it from. Ruined my passenger side axel also when transfer case went $1137was the bill. 500 for used case 16k 170 for axel 30 for fluid rest in labor. Should be a recall car sounded awful back up and in drive loss a bit of power when driving. Also.

Vehicle's transmission slips and does not respond to an acceleration after a rapid deceleration of at least 40 mph. The vehicle will jerk in response to your attempt to accelerate and then will respond. This can lead to adangerous situation if you are attempting to avoid a collision by accelerating to get out of the way.

Says powertrain control module failure. Also oxygen sensor on the my gmc app. It keeps cutting off in the middle of road.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving various low speeds, the vehicle stalled and shut off without warning. After the vehicle was restarted, the vehicle jerked and then resumed normal operation. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

Timing chain jumping off of sprockets and eating away at the chain guides and tensioners.

I am having trouble with these things now. The powertrain especially i have not had accident yet but it keeps going dead on me in the middle of driving down road. Causing me to have to put in neutral and restart. At this time the steering goes out. This needs to be repaired before an accident does happen. The drivers seat does not move forward or backwards. The tire pressure warning does not warn until it is at 20 psi.

Timing belt stretched and jumped. Cylinder head broken. Timing belt jumped while driving, began making a very loud rattling noise.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the seat belt did not retract. The contact called dondelinger chevrolet buick gmc cadillac at 877-211-6240 (located at 2310 paul bunyan dr nw, bemidji, mn 56601) and was informed that the seat belt needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

Front seat belts won"t retract and get caught in door when closed and the plastic cover on the seat breaks and then it will not latch.this causes the seat belt to be inoperable.it then cannot restrain the occupant thus it causes a safety concern as well as violation in not wearing a seat belt.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated while driving about 35 mph, the vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. The driver's air bag busted open, smoked and emitted debris but did not deploy. The service air bag light illuminated. The contact and a nine-year old child in a booster seat, in the back seat of the vehicle sustained injury that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was damaged and was driven to the contact's residence. The contact also stated that the driver's seat belt did not retract. The contact called the stan mcnabb chrysler dodge jeep ram dealer, located at 200 n. Jackson st, tullahoma, tn 37388 and was told that the information would be entered in the contact's file. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

Seat re-tractors don't retract and seat belt gets caught in door when closed.door cracks plastic cover on seat belt cover which leaves a sharp edge that cuts your fingers when you try to buckle your seat belt.

Seat belt retractors fail to retract and belt clip gets stuck in closed door. Dealer fixed once but refuses to fix at their cost. I believe this is a serious gm defect and a safety hazard because a half open jammed door will not open.

On various occasions when slowing down or turning, the engine will die.front end accident going 55+ mph on a country road, hit a very large dip, airbags did not deploy, seat belts did lock up.

The failure mileage was approximately 136,000. *dt

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal to ensure the vehicle made a complete stop. The dealer (hardy chevrolet, 2115 browns bridge rd, gainesville, ga 30501, (770) 532-4389) diagnosed that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The manufacturer issued 20 tsbs on the brake system, but had not issued a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Won't start,get a "check power steering"light.

Purchased 2012 gmc terrain in june 2012.shortly after purchase i noticed the steering is very stiff and makes grinding sound when turning steering wheel.had to dealer since and they said it was due to the tires pressure.they said they put in correct tire pressure and said it should correct problem.it didn't so i took back to dealer and they test drove it and said they noticed also how stiff the steering is.was told that other models same year and mode steering were stiff.did nothing at that time and told to keep driving and see if it corrects itself.it hasn't.what can i do to get those problems resolved?

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While operating the vehicle and making a right turn, the steering wheel cover suddenly loosened and separated from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to phillips buick (hwy 441-27, fruitland park, fl) who indicated that the metal ring used to secure the cover was loose and the entire steering wheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,600.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving 65 mph, the steering wheel locked without warning. The contact mentioned that excessive force was required to control the steering wheel. The failure recurred numerous times. The dealer was unable to locate a failure code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,000.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the power steering fault message displayed on the instrument panel and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer beck chevrolet located at 3750 w carleton rd, hillsdale, mi 49242 was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

Steering wheel locks and hard to steer while driving. System light comes on stating check power steering.also stabilizer light comes as well.

The data i entered for "failure mileage" and "speed at time of incident" should not be used as concrete data because for the most part from rolling up very slow driving would be more accurate (without giving gas).i am 47, and driving since 18.i am a mechanic, worked telephone, data, presently a nurse.i have driven many cars. I have owned, or co-owned a least 15 cars.i am always on the road in all conditions.all my past professions required plenty driving.i have driven the above mentioned vehicle for little over 2 months.there is a significant blind spot to the front right- where the front mirror join the front right door structure.to turn right from a stop sign, or a stop light, is dangerous.the vertical shaft (right side edge of the wind-shield viewed from drivers seat) coupled with the large mirror make for a significant blind spot. I have had two occasions of near misses (i making a right turn from standing / pedestrian on sidewalk to my right attempting to cross street / pedestrian crossing drivers right to left).finally it happened;she was 71 yrs old.i have tested my theory over and over.i am changing the car. It blocks too much mass.i can block-out the entire front tire of a city bus if it is to my right at a red light or stop sign; that is significant. As the driver scans from left to right before a right turn, and as the pedestrian moves to cross, the pedestrian can disappear out of view- now that is dangerous (meanwhile the pedestrian is thinking that the driver sees him/her and expects the driver to eventually stop). But, at the same time driver never sees pedestrian due to that front blind spot.now,as driver lifts off brakes and rolls forward, the danger comes as both driver and pedestrian arch to perpendicular to each other.the blind spot travels with driver.

On 8/2/12 i purchased my gmc terrain brand newin ashland city, tn. I moved to west palm beach in october 2012.the current miles on the vehicle are 44,039. I got an oil change, filter and multi-point inspection on 10/24/13 by the local gmc dealer. On 10/23/13 i took my vehicle in to have a recall repaired at schumacher buick/gmc. The recall # is 12312.a month later the vehicle would lunge sharplyforwardwhile driving and a heavy shaking vibration (both while driving and at a stop) below my feet in the vehicle (floor board). I took the vehicle to schumacher buick/gmc 3031 okeechobee blvd, on 11/11/13 and it remained until 11/15/14 and the problem was not identified. I returned the vehicle for the same problem on 12/21/13 (same dealer) and it was picked up on 12/31/13. The first service advisor was rob deal he told me that the vehicle shifts its drivability to the driver and nothing was wrong.i took my vehicle back a second time for the same problem this time (it was getting worst) my rep was "[xxx]". He said it was the "eco" button in the car, if pushed makes the car run rough." on march 7, 2014, i contacted gmc corporate office and spoke to sherry and requested a full analysis of my car. This time i went to another gmc dealer locally (lake park schumacher) and my service tech was [xxx]. Per [xxx]it is a transmission issue -left on my voicemail and saved" specifically he said it was the "control pressure valve causing it to lunge forward and it was improper." he said it was "uncommon to see this issue." the reason i took the vehicle in is thati almost rear ended two people while driving due to the vehicles lungesand have my body jolted into the glass the force was so strong with the lunge.i fear for my safety and that of my 12 year old daughter in this car. I was contacted on 3/13/14 that the vehicle was ready for pick-up and it had been fixed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that rain entered the vehicle and soaked the driver and passenger side floor. The vehicle was taken to penske buick gmc of cerritos (18400 studebaker rd, cerritos, ca 90703), but they were unable to diagnose where the rain was entering. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 86,644.

To whom it may concern:please note that i have observed my vehicle a profound amount of water entering the vehicle somewhere within, at, or in vicinity of the front passenger side of the vehicle and driver's side (front).this occurs during rain-fall.my vehicle began displaying an odor and showing white-yellowish colored matter in the carpet area.the water is now developed into a puddle on the passenger - side and carpet soaked on the driver's side (the lost of footing on the driver's side, makes it sometimes difficult when driving, and shifting my foot from the accelerator to (and) braking (to steer, and performing turning maneuvers).i have researched and noted several consumer chat pages, in whichconsumers have discussions experiencing the problem of water leaking into their gmc terrain, and other gmc vehicles.

My granddaughter and i were parked outside a grocery store. We came out with several bags and my granddaughter opened the back lift gate. It went up and then came back down again. It didn't stay up. I tried to open it again with my key and it did the same thing. Went up, hesitated and came back down again. I stopped opening the gate and put bags inside. I took her home then drove home myself. I showed my husband what the back gate was doing. I called the ford dealer i bought my terrain from last year (february 2017) and got appointment for service today. The ford service called the chevrolet service and referred me to them for service. I took the car to the chevrolet dealer who checked if my car was on any recall, she said the vin was not included in any recalls, but we bought an extended warranty which may cover the costs. However, i have to pay the first $200 of any service repairs. I don't believe the back gate should stop working when the rest of my car works fine. Is there anything i can do to get help to repair my car's back gate?

We had begun to cross an intersection and, while our speed was from a dead stop, the other driver blew through a red light and hit us at what was probably the speed limit of 40mph.her car struck us in the right front passenger side and again on the rear passenger side.we, myself who was driving, and my wife, who was the passenger on the side hit, were both thrown hard to the right at impact, causing injuries to us both, most notably, my wife.she hit her head very hard on either the passenger door frame or the passenger window.no airbags deployed.no side airbags, no front airbags. No air bags deployed!

When trying to open the rear liftgate the door will open completely then quickly close halfway, open completely again, then quickly close shut making it impossible to safely put anything into or remove from the trunk of the car. There is a recall for this issue on the acadia's already.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that there was severe corrosion on the rear driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed the door was incorrectly sealed and needed to be replaced. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the liftgate failed to function properly. The contact stated that the trunk failed to remain open and closed independently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,325.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the liftgate failed to function properly and would lower very quickly when activated. Norman gale buick gmc (973-267-1100, 1247 nj-10, cedar knolls, nj 07927) was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 66,867.

Exploding sunroof.:driving down the freeway and the sunroof just broke out with a big hole in it.

I recently received a letter from gmc informing me that vehicles were built incorrectly, that the fuel composition sensor may be mounted below the frame, exposing the sensor and fuel lines to road debris, which may result in the fuel line emitting fuel odor, weeping, or leaking. In addition, the vehicle may experience engine stumble, loss of power and stall while driving. It did not provide a picture of the fuel composition sensor, nor did it provide information as to where it is located. I was told by the customer assistance center this was intentional. I am now fearful every time i drive the car, but this is my only means of transportation. I am highly concerned regarding not only the failure of the fuel composition sensor and fuel lines, but road debris, or an accident may puncture the fuel composition sensor and/or fuel lines, causing a possible fuel leak and potential fire. Add in the concern that the vehicle may unexpectedly lose power and/or stall, (my vehicle lost power on 12-13-13). I do not understand why an issue this dangerous did not result in gmc initiating a recall or field inspection of some sort to inspect all vehicles at no cost to the owners and make any necessary repairs in order to eliminate any risk of accident or injuries to the public. I have been advised by the customer assistance center that if i bring my vehicle to the dealer, the service department needs to perform a diagnosis.once determined that the codes match the special coverage, the diagnosis will be waived and all repairs related to it will be free of charge.there will be an out of pocket expense for the diagnosis unless the condition described is met. Why does the vehicle need to be hooked up to a computer to find engine or other electrical issue codes? the letter states this is a part that may be mounted below the frame rail, so wouldn't this just require a visual inspection?

Car burns oil quickly. I have to get frequent oil changes. Two weeks ago oil had leekaed into my car.

I turned off the ignition to my 2012 gmc terrain, removed the key and opened the trunk/hatch to retrieve some items. As i attempted to lock the vehicle i realized it was still running.i was unable to use the key fob to unlock the doors and had to open them manually.it took two attempts at inserting the key in to the ignition and turning it "off" before the vehicle actually turned off.this is an issue with this vehicle yet according to the dealership "not with my specific vehicle" and they won't even look at it with.please include my specific vehicle in this recall that was made on 07/05/2016 stating "general motors llc (gm) is recalling certain model year...as the electronic park lock lever may allow the ignition key to be removed without the transmission being in park. Also, certain...2011-2013 gmc terrain vehicles may have been serviced with similar defective replacement electronic park lock levers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 114 "theft protection and rollaway prevention." please amend this recall to include my vehicle.

When i first purchased this suv, it was fine. Then two years into having this vehicle i had to keep putting oil into it. It turns out that this year car has an oil comsuption recall. However, i had to go in for a test, i almost ran out of oil within a week my car would stall on the highway, i was also rear ended because it would out of oil when it wasn't suppose to. In dec 2017 i took the car in and got the car recall done which was no charge to me. However, two days after the recall was done my check engine light came on again. I took it back to the dealership which is cappellino buick gmc in williamsville and they charged me the 119 to dianogsis the car and tell me that it was the catalytic converter. He told me that the catalytic converter was not covered enough though he states that they know that the engine consumption recall made the catalytic converter get clogged. I have changed my o2 sensor twice and i will probably have to change it again because once the catalytic converter goes, typically the o2 sensors go as well.if your car is consuming a lot of oil, blowing black smoke and it is a gmc terrain (no matter the year), get it checked, honestly, i am not being overdramatic, it could be life or death. If you have kids and you have the car, go for a oil consumption test asap. My car stalled out on the highway, stop lights and stop signs, even when not completely stopped or performing a "rolling stop".

The back gate comes down on your head when you are trying to put things in back or take things out, almost immediately. It has hit my head several times causing immense pain and a migraine. It started in july of 2019 and was slow at first. Now it happens almost immediately.. It has hit my head several times and my son. I saw there were problems with this model with this issue. Gmc tells me it is not covered.

The left front tire pressure sensor no longer works. My husband bought a newer chevy and the same sensor no longer works.friends have the same exact problem with the same sensor on their gmc/chevy vehicles. Sensor light warns of the sensor not working for the left front tire pressure. Lighted sign on dashboard says "service tire monitor system". When you enter menu and select tire pressure it says left front tire 0. Manufacturer defect?

Time changing actuators.

When i have my eco light at stopping or sitting it will cause the vehicle to shake or like it stall or wants to cut off cut off. When the eco is turned i don't have that problem. The engine is notown what is this problem? this happens on street not the highway on when sitting at a stop.

My complaint is in regards to tires. Specifically michelin latitude tour. My terrain is 5 years old with 27k miles on it, not exactly a lot of use. However i just found out that the tires on the vehicle, not the original tires are falling apart. The tread is separating from the tire body. And the tires are dry rotted. If you measure the tread depth, these are almost new tires. I am aghast that an expensive tire like these should just fall apart. Michelin has given me a run around. The tire tech at costco told me this was a common problem with this model tire. How in good conscience can a company like michelin continue to sell a defective design?can anything be done to make the public safe?

Stabilitrak flash's and everything electric in the vehicle starts flickering

Car crash at 45 mph. Front in damage and air bag did not deploy. Seatbelts did not lock up.

While driving during heavy rain at 50 mph my windshield wipers stalled right in front of my view. The motor was obviously still functioning because i could hear it but wipers were not moving. Had to pull over to keep from being involved in accident due to obstructed view and rain on windshield...this needs to recalled!! safety issue and a hazard to both driver and other vehicles on road. Called both dealership and gmc directly whick both stated due to no set recall it would have to be on me to replace and pay out of pocket for diagnosis of vehicle and then reacement if needed! this 2012 terrain only has 65,900 miles. They need to get it together before they end up sued for causing accidents or deaths!

When i come complete stop or waiting for the light to change. The truck shakes or act it wants cut only with eco button is push on. This does not happen while driving only when i come your complete stop. If the is cut off do not have problem runs fine. Dealer was in form he said nothing they can until the engine light comes on..

The vehicle has excessive oil consumption. I have to keep adding motor oil a couple weeks after doing oil change.

I was putting a package in the rear compartment, when the hatch started to close, it hit my head and didnot stop, i had to grap the hatch, and hold it up..there is something terribly wrong with it.

Check engine light keeps coming on and the code coming up is for the camshaft pistion. I had it replaces and when i run my ac for more than an hour in park, the check engine light will come on and the truck will die, or the truck will die and the check engine light will not come on. The truck is also making a loud rumbling nose.

Several times in 3 years, the dealership can not duplicate the problem loss of power starts running slow, wont go over 20 mph, check stability light comes on, check engine light starts blinking, acts like misfire or no fuel in vehicle, starts anywhere at any time, very unsafe and scary. This has been intermediate and a problem since month 3 of buying my vehicle. This is not safe and the dealership has basically givin up on me and my vehicle.

Upon starting and driving the vehicle, the speedometer failed to function. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,115. The vin was not available.

My terrain is stalling really bad some days and sometimes no problems at all. It does it more when going into reverse, i have to keep giving gas to get backed up. It has also died on me when i slow to a stop like at a light. This is really frustrating!!

The contact stated that it was difficult to see through the windshield at night time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection who decided to lift the headlight higher. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and they filed a complaint. The failure mileage was 4. Updated 11/14/12*lj

While on the highway and while it was raining outside the windshield wipers stopped working. The wipers no longer work on the vehicle and the car cannot be driven in the rain. My wife was able to pull the car over safely. Windshield wipers will not work after restarting the car.

While driving in the rain, my wipers suddenly stopped in the up position and wouldn't move.the motor was still working because you could hear it cycling, but the wipers wouldn't move.fortunately the rain wasn't very heavy,i was driving on city streets able to get home safely despite the impaired visibility. Had this happened on the highway in some of the recent rain we have experienced this would have been a very dangerous situation.

The front windshield wipers stopped working while we were driving on the interstate during a torrential downpour. We were in the middle of three lanes of traffic but were eventually able to move over and pull off the highway safely. This equipment failure could have had a tragic ending for us and the other motorists around us. We understand there were recalls for 2013 models for this failure. Not sure why a recall hasn't been done on 2012 models.

My windshield wipers quite working in the middle of a downpour while on the interstate. I took it to the dealership and there charging me a $200 deductible to repair this issue that has affected millions of vehicles. My husband almost crashed into another car while trying to pull over on the shoulder. We were left sitting in a storm for over 2 hours waiting for the weather to clear up.this is a huge safety risk.

The linkage arms keeps disengaging from the motor. It happened while it was raining and i was driving on the highway. I was able to reattach it on a later day but it keeps happening when the wipers are on a higher speed

While driving 70 mph on an interstate highway in the rain the wipers stopped working. The wiper motor works but it is no longer attached to the blades.

Driving in the pouring rain with my family (my husband, my 10 daughter and 3 year old son) at 58 miles per hour when we hit a downpour of rain. I turned my wipers from low to high. They made about 3 or 4 swipes then stuck in the vertical position. I lost all visual of the road, slowed down, found a place to safely turn off. My husband checked the wipers from outside the car but couldn't regain any function. Luckily we were about 3 miles from home, headed on a day trip approximately 100 miles away. We turned back and traded for my husband's truck for the trip. We tested the wipers again at home, you can hear the motor running, then a thunk sound and nothing.i haven't taken the vehicle for repair yet, as this just happened about an hour ago.

Windshield wiper are not working, i was driving home in a storm and i could have killed someone and or myself. It all happened with out warning. I had to wait until the storm let up some and drive.

I used my windshield wipers on the highest/fastest setting the other day for the 1st time ever.i usually only use the low or medium setting.the windshield wipers worked for about 1 minute and then they stopped working completely.they froze in place and my dealer is recommending a replacement of the wiper motor and connections.i am reading online and it looks like gm recalled the 2013 terrains for this exact issue and that your company was looking into whether they should recall 2010-2012 terrains as well.i would like any information you have about the possibility of that recall because i think its ridiculous that gmc has not recalled this item when it was clearly an issue for the 2013 model using the same parts.this is extremely dangerous when the wipers fail when they are going the fastest.that is when the wipers are needed the most because it means it is raining excessively.gm should have to pay for my repairs considering this is a known issue and i'm hoping your company can help get them to finish recalling all years models.thanks.

Wipers in "on" position, wiper motor audibly running, neither wiper blade would move across windshield, both remain stationary.can manually move both blades freely, no binding, in unison validating linkage between the two blade arms were still connected.suspected motor shaft/spline connecting to the "blade transmission" was disconnected, stripped, or fell off.to ensure not an electrical issue, removed 25 amp fuse (no. 29) from engine compartment fuse buss and inspected fuse.fuse intact and in like new condition.reinstalled the fuse resuming motor function.drove the vehicle tovalentine gmc buick, fairborn, ohio and asked service mgr if a tsb referencing this safety issue had been reported.the service mgr did not comment; instead he showed me an illustrated parts breakdown of the area in question pointing to the blade transmission.to confirm my diagnosis, he had one of their mechanics inspect the area in question pending the removal of a panel.service mgr followed by stating i "might" not have to pay, depending on the problem.the inspection proved it was indeed the wiper blade transmission p/n 25948436, gm at fault.the service mgr also stated parts on-hand followed by a $250.00 quote to replace.with the area in question apart, i concurred with the work which was done in a few minutes.after examining the bill, i crossed this part number on-line and found countless genuine gm sources charging far less; $95.16, to be exact (less shipping and includes 1 yr warranty).i brought it up to their attention and was told their list price is $199.95 with the same 1 year warranty, and the labor cost was discounted down to $85.00 per hour.regardless of costs, the fact remains; low or no visibility could result in a crash causing injury or death unless addressed.recommend researching other vehicles carrying this part for potential failure.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 50 mph during a thunderstorm and hail, the windshield wiper motor failed. The contact pulled the vehicle over and noticed that the windshield wipers were completely inoperative. The contact waited for the storm to stop and then drove to an independent mechanic who determined that the windshield wiper motor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was temporarily repaired until the wiper motor was officially replaced. A dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The wipers stopped functioning while driving.wipers swept to the left (drivers side) and broke free from the linkage allowing the driver wiper to hang off of the windshield.the wipers can be manually moved back to a resting position, but will not move on their own.

I was getting on the interstate when a really bad rain storm came up. I turned my windshield wipers on and they got stuck in the upright position. I tried many times to get the wipers to work, but they would not move. I had no visibility and i was on an elevated ramp getting on the interstate. I could not see anything so i had to roll my window down, drive 5 miles an hour and use the white line on the road as a guide. I got soaking wet as did my car. I had to drive about a mile before i could safely stop the car. There was no warning and i am reading now there is an issue with this on terrains. This was an extremely dangerous, i could have severely hurt myself or someone else. I am getting really tired of all the recalls on the terrain. So far there have been six (6) for my car and a few more that don't seem to apply yet!!

During a bad storm the windshield wipers went past the windshield and the motor froze up motor started humming then locked up.

I was driving to work in extremely heavy rain this past thursday morning during rush hour. I was traveling on i 96 in detroit and was probably going 60 mph which is 10 mph below the speed limit. Withoutany warning, my windshield wipers which were on high due to the very heavy rain, ceased to work leaving me in an extreamly dangerous position. I was unable to see and was in heavy traffic. I slowed my speed, turned on hazard lights and moved to the right shoulder safely, thankfully. I called road service to get a tow and had my car serviced at a local gas station. The mechanic said i needed a new wiper module which cost me $260.i found a recall for the exact same problem for 2013 gmc terrains, nhtsa recall no. 16v-582, manufacturer recall no:25302. I feel they should look into including earlier models.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the windshield wiper transmission on the driver side was corroded and failed to work. It was difficult to drive the vehicle safely. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that it was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v582000 (visibility). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

I was driving in the rain on the highway and my windshield wipers just stopped working. The motor still runs but the wipers will not move

While driving in the rain at 55 mph on a highway on my way to school i turned on my windshield wiper, it came on and stopped moving after 10 minutes. I had to put on my blinkers and slowly drive across lanes to move it to the shoulder of the road. I waited for assistance from my husband to guide me back home (which was closer for me) because i couldn't continue like this for another 45 minutes. Before we left, we waited about 20-25 minutes more on the roadside and headed back home when it was safe to do so. My husband did try getting it to work at least twice as well but we could hear was the motor grinding but no motion. We took it the next day to neighborhood's pep boys since that was closer to me than the nearest gmc dealership to have it diagnosed and i was told that the transmission had gone bad at 47851 miles.

While driving down the highway at about 65 mph in a bad thunderstorm, the wipers stopped working, stopping about halfway up. After pulling over to the side of the road, we discovered we could hear the motor clicking but the wipers wouldn't move. We had to dangerously drive several miles with very little visibility until we could find a safe place to pull over to try to access the situation further. We were 4 hours from home going on a weekend trip, about an hour from our destination. We had to get rain-x (suggested from the auto zone we were able to find) and apply it to make it to our destination. We couldn't find any dealerships who could help us on the weekend, so we had to hope for the best driving back home. It was very dangerous driving in the rain with no wipers, but we had no choice since we were hours away from home and could not find any place to help us. Upon getting home, i took the terrain to our dealership and had to get it fixed. I was told this is very common in terrain's and my husband's 2013 was recalled for the exact same problem. I do not understand how only one year can be recalled when it is clearly a problem with all years. It set us back $302.74 for the repair and that was after the dealership gave us a small discount.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to function. The vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed by an independent mechanic or dealer. Monument chevrolet (3940 pasadena fwy, pasadena, tx 77503, (713) 473-7601) was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recall campaigns to replace the part. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

Driving on i-85 @ 65 mph in morning rush hour traffic when extremely heavy downpours began. I turned on wipers to full speed they swiped 3 times then stopped working. The driver side blade went beyond the window edge and stopped, with both blades in a vertical position. I immediately lost all visibility. I was able to pull off to the shoulder of the hwy, waited 30 minutes for the rain to stop. Drove to a aaa car care center where they diagnosed a blown wiper transmission (motor). Cost $501 to repair. The 2013 has a recall for the wipers in the u.s., canada has a recall for 2010-2017 for the wipers. Gmc claims my vehicle is not part of the recall because it was not made in the same factory with the same parts as the vehicles part of the recall (even though there are stickers on the inside door touting its canadian lineage). They also claim that because i had it fixed by an independent mechanic, there is no way to say for sure the failure was due to a defect...i guess they expected me to take my chances and try to beat the rain to a gmc dealer rather than the closest shop. The aaa mechanic himself said this was extremely rare to have a wiper motor failure unless i lived up north and frequently cleared the weight of snow and ice off my windshield with the wipers. I have found multiple complaints online in the u.s. For wiper malfunctions on the 2012 gmc terrain. I could have been involved in a serious accident on a major hwy during rush hour traffic in the pouring rain. This is an extremely dangerous defect that needs to be recalled in the u.s. And those who have already had repairs need to be reimbursed.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to operate without warning. The vehicle was taken to ed koehn chevrolet (616-866-9511, located at 4650 14 mile rd ne # m-57, rockford, mi 49341) where it was diagnosed that the wiper motor and transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the contact would be called back by a representative. The contact was not called back. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Windshield wiper failure to continue to operate while car in use.wipers came out of socket repair shop said that sometimes the ball joints corrode and the windshield wipers become inoperable.after investigation it sounds like this is a common complaint with the 2013 and on wondering if this is also a complaint with the 2012?this has now happened to us twice.both times we were driving in the rain the second time i had just started out and ended up going home the first time it was en route and was incredibly difficult to pull over we almost caused an accident because it was raining hard and i couldn't see the wipers stopped in the upright position and were also in my way when they stopped in my visual field.i had to roll my driver side down in order to see.this was horribly scarry and the 2012 models need to be investigated for the same defects that the 2013 are being recalled for.

My windshield wipers stopped functioning while driving in a rain storm. I had to pull over until the rain subsided enough for me to have partial but impaired visibility. I had the garage where i get my oil changed look and it and they said a bushing was worn and i need a new wiper assembly. There is a recall #25302 with same complaint for 2013 gmc terrains. I called gmc and was told this repair would be my responsibility.

Driving in a rain storm and the bushing came off to release the transmission arm could not see to drive , had to drive 3 hours from home without wipers in the rain

I was driving on i-95 on 3/29/2020 when it started raining i turn on my wipers and it started okay at first all of a sudden they stop working i almost had an accident i pulled over to the service road and waited until the rain stopped i could have been killed. What do i do now i don't have the money to get it fixed and i won't drive it in the rain.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While drivingapproximately 65 mph the contact opened the rear driver and passenger side windows and noticed the sunroof began to vibrate violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated nothing could be done because the vehicle was designed that way; therefore, there are unable to repair the vibration. When the contact opened the front and rear driver and passenger windows the vibration did not occur. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 5,700.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. Whether stationary or driving the vehicle various speeds, the windshield developed a black film that reflected a glare into the contact's eyes. The issue obstructed the contact's view of the road. Greater lowell gmc in lowell, massachusetts was made aware of the failure and initially stated that it was the tint of the vehicle that caused the glare and that it was normal. Upon further inspection, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. Without warning, an internal ball joint rod fractured and caused the driver side windshield wiper to fail while driving during inclement weather. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road to make adjustments. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiper transmission rod prematurely fractured. The part was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. Updated 10/19/16*ljupdated 10/24/16.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the windshield wiper on the driver's side failed to function. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired yet. The contact mentioned that she was unable to drive the vehicle while it was raining. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving 60 mph, the windshield wipers seized without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

On 11/13/2018 on a highway in heavy rain the windshield wipers just stopped. Investigation revealed a failure of the windshield wiper transmission linkage which i discovered to be a common problem. This is being repaired at the dealership today 11/15/2018. Fortunately there were no injuries or collision as my trip was nearly complete and traffic was low. This is being repaired and all documents will be retained and available on request

I was driving in a heavy rain storm across a long three lane bridge when my wiper system failed. Due to the amount of wind, rain and traffic road spray, i could not see the road or vehicles in front of me. I had zero visibility. Miraculously, i made it safely across the bridge and off the shoulder into a grassy area. The dealership that made the repair told me that gm covered the replacement of the wiper assembly because they are aware of this defect, but haven't issued a public recall. This is a serious safety issue and should not be ignored. It has caused me to have continued anxiety issues when driving in the rain and across long bridges. Please make this a public recall. Thank you

While driving straight in the rain, the windshield wipers quit working. Diagnosis revealed that the windshield wiper transmission had come apart and needed to be replaced. This was the second occurrence of this issue on the same vehicle. The first occurrence was in june 2016

Was driving in the middle of a torrential downpour and had my wipers on high when all of a sudden they just stopped working almost causing me to crash and die.thought maybe it was a fuse problem but came to find out that there was a recall on a plastic piece that breaks off on the 2013 gmc terrain what is not recalled on my vehicle so i had to pay to have this fixed and it was not cheap.checking online numerous people have had the same exact thing happened to them for the 2012 model terrain and i do not understand why such a safety issue is not addressed immediately so as to not cause anybody to crash and die.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 40 mph in the rain, the windshield wiper on the driver side failed. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver side wiper failed and needed to be replaced. The windshield wiper transmission linkage was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v582000 (visibility). The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving 60 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers failed to function. The vehicle was taken to mcgovern buick gmc (located at 2806, 150 turnpike rd, westborough, ma 01581, (508) 439-4362) where the windshield wiper motor was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 95301890184. The approximate failure mileage was 64,848.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. During a heavy storm, the windshield wipers stopped working without warning. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that the bushing detached from the wiper blade. The dealer diagnosed that the entire wiper blade would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.

Windshield wipers stopped working while driving (on highway) in the rain resulting in compromised visibility. I tried turning the wipers off while driving and eventually restarted the car to see if that would help. The wipers remained stuck in a vertical position despite these efforts. Eventually, i manually slid the wipers into the down position.

On saturday, 5/11/19, at about 10 pm, while driving on i-264, at about 60 mph, in a bad thunderstorm, the wipers stopped working, stopping all the way up.the rain was so heavy i could not see out the front window and slowed down and gradually pulled off to the side with my passenger looking out for the guardrail.when the rain let up a little, i realized i was partially blocking an on ramp and pulled farther forward.this was a very dangerous situation as a car in the travel lane could have hit me (when slowing down) or i could have been hit while blocking the on ramp during this period of heavy rain.when the rain slowed more, we drove 2 miles to the next exit and pulled off in a store parking lot.i replaced the wiper fuse, but later discovered we could hear the motor clicking but the wipers wouldn't move.we had to dangerously drive 40+ miles home hoping the rain would stay at a drizzle and pulling to the side any time the rain came down hard enough to cause very limited visibility. It took us well over two hours to make the 40 mile trip home.it was very dangerous driving in the rain with no wipers, but we had little choice since we since there are no repair shops open at that hour.upon getting home, we took the terrain to our local auto repair shop to get it fixed. I was told this is very common in terrains as there is a plastic gear in the wiper motor that routinely breaks when the motor is on high.the mechanic said the problem is so common that the dealers' keep the wiper motor in stock and he could get the motor (part) immediately without having to order it.if this is true, i'd recommend a recall of the wiper motor and that replacement motor contain a metal (or stronger) gear that is less likely to break when the motor is on high speed.because you cannot just buy/replace the gear, the whole motor had to be replaced which cost us $278.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 60 mph in a rain storm, the front windshield wipers suddenly became inoperable. The failure caused a visibility hazard to the driver. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,885.

Front windshield wipers immediately stopped operation while in use on february 20, 2019.i took the car on february 21, 2019 to our local mechanic's shop which recommended total replacement of the wiper transmission assembly even though only a bushing was damaged.i agreed and had the wiper transmission replaced.i attach a copy of that invoice.total paid was $376.75

Wiper system failed, without notice or warning, while in use during travel on the highway, severely limiting visibility and creating significant safety event. No accident was reported as other vehicle passengers were able to assist the driver in safely maneuvering the vehicle to a safe stopping location.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to function properly. The part was replaced by an independent mechanic; but, the failure continued with the driver's side wiper failing to function and impacted the contact's visibility. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer issued 26 tsbs for the visibility and was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,465.

Winds shield wipers stop working.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph in inclement weather, the windshield wipers became inoperable. The contact pulled off of the roadway, turned off and restarted the vehicle however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure on april 1st, 2020 case number [xxx[. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

Windshield wipers failed during a heavy downpour while traveling 60mph on the highway. Without warning wipers stopped in the middle of my windshield i was completely blinded and had to abruptly pull onto the shoulder and wait for the rain to stop before i could drive again. This is a serious safety hazard and clearly a common problem for gmc since they recalled wipers on the 2013 terrain. They should be responsible for the 2012 models as well. It's only a matter of time before this problem kills someone if it hasn't already.

My family and me were traveling in a down poor in a large city.suddenly my windshield wipers went went past the window while in motion and stopped working. This was very unsafe and we were blinded from the rain and could not see the traffic in front of us.i slowed down and somehow found my way to the side of the interstate without hitting or being hit by anyone.this issue could have killed us.this is very dangerous.i found that this is a common issue in this model and the 2013 actually has a recall for the same issue.

While driving in the rain in atlanta out of town our windshield wiper blades stopped working. I am referring to our front windshield wiper blades stopped working in a storm while we were out of town. We bought rainx and made it home safely, thank god. We took it to the dealership the next day and they charged me to replace the wiper motor .

Linkage arm broken from motor. Windshield wiper motor sounded, but would not move. The recall for 2013 should apply to 2012 as well.

While driving to work this morning in the pouring rain the wipers just stopped. No issue or warnings prior to not working anymore. You can hear the motor trying to move the wipers but the wipers just sit there.

Wiper transmission need to be replaced due to water and debris entered the wiper assembly ball joints and caused excessive wear, allowing the ball joints to detach and causing the wipers to stop working

The windshield wipers stopped working while i was driving on the freeway in the rain on the night of 5/21/2017. I had to pull over to wait for a break in the weather because i had no visibility. I waited for hours before it was clear enough to see. Iwas told by the mechanic the transmission in the wipers went out. The dealership told me there is a recall for this on the make model and year of my vehicle but i have to file a report to get added to the recall because my vin is not currently apart of the open recall. I still do not currently have operational wipers

While traveling under severe rain front wipers stopped working

On october 31, 2019 my windshield wipers failed on my vehicle while driving in a downpour of rain doing 45 mph, there were vehicles around me but thankfully not behind me and i was able to stop without being hit. I was able to avoid an accident due to the fact that i am an experienced driver. Luckily i was only about 2 blocks from the dealership and parked my vehicle there while the owner gave me a ride home. I spent $318 on the windshield wiper motor transmission. Canada recalled this exact same vehicle so why hasn't the u. S. I also reported this to gmc.

Driving at 35 miles an hour on a double lane highway in very heavy rain at about 6:00 p.m.. The windshield wipers were on high to clear the water from the windshield. Wipers stopped working during the middle of the storm. I was able to safely navigate my car to a parking lot and wait for the rain to stop. Later upon inspection the ball joint became separated from the socket which rendered the windshield wipers useless. See attachments.this has been reported to gm and is a known problem in canada. "25300-03: safety recall - front wiper transmission corrosion failure (canada only) - 2010-2017 chevrolet equinox & gmc terrain". I notified gm about this and they stated they will notify me if they issue a recall for my vin.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc terrain. While driving 50 mph, the windshield wipers failed during a heavy rainstorm. While driving straight on a highway in the rain, the windshield wipers stopped working. Investigation revealed that the wiper transmission had come apart and needed to be replaced. Turned wipers on to the low setting. The wiper blade arms moved to the up position and stopped. I turn the switch to off, waited a few seconds and turned them back on. Wipers blade arms did not move, but i could hear the motor run like it would if i were to turn them on.it's almost like the arms became dislocated from the joint the should be connected too! i was parked in my lot at work, pouring down rain. I got out and tried giving the arms a little push to maybe get them to move . Nothing. I was able to manually movethem to down position and waited for the rain to stop so i could drive home.i've already had this car to the dealership a few times and is currently under the oil consumtion recall. Replaced the timing chain, new pistons and rings.

Although i could not see, luckily i was able to pull over each times the occurrence happened.i was so scared because i went from visibility to non in seconds and to pull over in an area unfamiliar to me the first time.i have been to hennessy gmc service twice, an on both occasions; i was told about recall and that parts has to come from canada since car origin is from canada. I also was told the wipers are temporarily repaired. No wipers are not.the first time i did not have to sign papers but the 2nd time i did when i went back to the dealership bothin anger and nervousness.

I was driving up a slushy hill and had to stop midway up the hill. Once i proceeded up the hill my car just spun tire,so i put the car in reverse and backed back down the hill. I then drove to work and parked my car. When i started my car to leave work the service awd alert came on. This is the second time since dec. 2013 that the awd has gone out in my vehicle. I live in an area where snow is prevalent and purposely bought an awd vehicle for peace of mind and now for the second time it is out!

2012 gmc terrain makes a clicking noise when pressing acceleration pedal. I habe changed oil, plugs and belts but still can't find source of tapping. Also my tires are new, less then a year and constantly show low pressure. I have checked for nails but none found.
