Takata recall?on march 12, my wife and i were in a collision with another vehicle.we were on a city street in tulsa, oklahoma when we rearended another vehicle. It was a fairly minor accident at less than 40 mph, but my wife sustained severe injuries to her right eye and both arms.she broke the major bone in both of her arms right above the wrist area, and her right eye was lacerated and exploded from the socket.she has been through numerous surgeries for her eye and arms.she is currently blind in her right eye.her seatbelt did not restain her from coming forward, and we still do not know what hit her in the eye.all of the airbags in the car exploded, and we believe that this might have caused her eye injury, but we are unsure as to why her seatbelt would have not restrained her from what caused the injuries to her arms and eye.
While driving on 77 south in charlotte getting on the brookshire freeway.going with the flow of traffic.it was a left merge and the side air bags went off. There was no debris in the road and nothing was hit.
March 2014 we had a airbag warning light come on and a warning on the odometer screen as well so we took it in to gmc weatherford tx and reported it but they said it would be $125 to just check it. Well we didn't and don't have the $125 to check it and then maybe not be fixed and we don't have it now. After this last airbag recall i have to wonder if it should have included my 2011 gmc terrain. The light and alarm still goes off so it is very scary. Is there a way that this can be checked without cost?

I was on the interstate in cincinnati, ohio when a deer crossed over the jersey wall onto the roadway as i was just beginning to exit. I hit the deer at a minimum speed of 45-50mph. My airbag did not deploy. Although i was unharmed i am concerned about the failure of the airbag to deploy given my speed and front impact. My vehicle has also recently had an intermittent issue with sudden loss of power that has been attributed to the stability control system. Given the recent rash of incidents surrounding gmc vehicles and the lack of recalls on the terrain vehicle, i am reporting these incidents at this time as i am concerned that they may be indicative of broader problem with the terrain model of vehicle.
I had a airbag warning indication.i took the suv to gmc and they indicated the issue is in the seat, as the individual sit in the seat it flexes the cannon plug with cause the airbag system to disable , and send a warning.they indicated they could not correct the issue without deviating due to safety concerns and they asked me to contact ntsb to indicate the safety issue.
My 2011 gmc terrain hit a vehicle in front, causing major damage (the vehicle is totaled out) and no air bags deployed.my vehicle was traveling at approximately 55 mph northbound in the #3 lane of the 41 freeway, south of the shaw exit.impact was estimated to be between 20 to 30 mph.the driver, my 18 year grand-daughter hit her head on the steering wheel and her left wrist was injured holding on to the steering wheel.the 18 year old female right front seat passenger suffered an ankle injury.why did the air bags fail to deploy, with a straight on front end collision with the vehicle in front?! unacceptable!!!
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, he noticed that the air bag warning light was illuminated. A police report was filed and the driver suffered minor bruising. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem who performed an investigation and the investigators concluded that there was no problem with the air bags. The vin was not available and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 1,100.
I had purhased a 2011 gmc terrian and have gotten three letters saying don't bring in to dealer until the problems happen one side -impact circuit cause-airbag-readiness light illuminate and the service air bag message to display. Gmc extened the protection for 10 years or 120,000 miles. The second that was sent the steering same protection and the third letter for oil consumption which it is doing now. This not safe for my wife and me or the any other passengers. What is your addvismentfor me.
I was pulling into a parking spot on monday night and just brushed the curb with the front passenger tire. After i came to a stop, the side airbags deployed. The service stabilitrak light comes on and off as well as all other dash lights flickering as the radio turned off and the power steering goes out.
Aig bag warning indicator light comes on during humid conditions.

I started taking my 2011 gmc terrain into the dealership where i bought it from when my airbag warning light started randomly coming on and off as i was driving. It was under warranty at that time and they would get it to go off for a day... But then it would come back on. One time i took it in, and the lady looked and said that it was nothing and to continue to drive it until they could get to it in a few weeks because they were backed up. When i took it in...my mileage was 100 miles till my warranty was out...they again... Stated that it was something that i was doing and released it back to me. It now remains on constantly... And all of these recalls are happening with airbags going off or not going off! i am scared to death to drive my car, but i have no other choice. I am still making payments on this vehicle that is a potential hazard to myself and my family! the dealership said that they can see if they can get a code from scanning it for $100 plus whatever is wrong with it. This problem has been going on way too long for me to have to be out of pocket any money! they should be paying me for all of this mess! please help me!!!
The contact owned a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, a second vehicle crashed into the front drivers side of the vehicle. Moments later flames were present coming from under the hood and the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The doors were locked and would not unlock. The rear driver side door was kick open and the front passenger door pulled opened which allowed the occupants to exit. Also during the incident the side air bags did not properly deflate after deployment. The driver sustained neck, back and shoulder injuries. The front passenger sustained injuries to the lumbar spine and hip and the rear seat passenger sustained a bruised sternum. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. A police report was taken at the scene. The manufacturer and local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.
I was going to a 930 am doctor appt@the cancer clinic, with my husband & father as passengers. I was in the left turn lane northbound attempting to turninto the hospital. It was 910 am. There was a lg. Delivery truck opposite me in the southbound left turn lane. As i pulled in the southbound lane, easing forward to ensure clearance the other car behind the delivery truck pulled out and around the truck and sped up to go through the intersection to make the lightthat was amber at this point. My father said that her head was down and she didn't look up until just before impact. There were no skid marks & the impact was high on the pass. Side of my vehicle rocking us up onto 2 wheels on the drivers side & then back down on all 4. My vehicle was t-boned on the front passenger side.the lady came out from behind the delivery truck at the last second, changed lanes & proceeded into the intersection at the same time i was trying to turn left. At this point the light was yellow. I have, i do believe 8 air bags, with 8 sensors in the terrain's. Also i have a full subscription to onstar which also has crash sensors in my car. **not one air bag went off nor did any sensors**. Onstar did not call me after the crash to tell me that they would be sending help, ambulance, police etc.my injuries were:contusion to left side of head above ear.scalp wound above right ear, with permanent indentation to right side of my head,2 small cuts right side of forehead. Black eyes. Pain in neck & stiffness.right eye socket @ eye brow swollen.husband: seatbelt bruising, neck pain/stiffness. My father, neck pain, stiffness, scraped skin on instep of right foot.this formal complaint is with general motors, gmc terrain, & onstar for not 1 airbag having not gone off/deployed, nor did onstar make any effort to contact me. I contacted both gm & onstar & they did nothing to compensate me.
I started my vehicle and it went through its customary systems check.while i was operating the vehicle a warning message appeared.it stated, service airbag.in addition, the symbol on the instrument panel display appeared indicating a airbag problem.obviously this is a serious safety concern because the air bag may unexpectedly inflate or may not work at all in a crash.i purchased this vehicle in december 2010, and it only has 42000 miles on it with regular routine maintenance.i believe that such a serious manufacturer's defect should not be occurring in the limited time this vehicle has been operating.due to the unsafe and serious nature of this defect, i would like to see gmc corporation stand behind their product and show concern about their customers safety by recalling and repairing this vehicle and any other gmc vehicle experiencing this problem.
The airbag readiness light is illuminated and "service air bag" message is displayed. There have been recalls for this on 2011 gmc terrains but when i looked it up it says my vehicle isn't covered in the recall. I'm pretty sure that this,in combination with the takata air bag recall, has affected more gmcs than the company cares to admit. This recall should be extended to all 2011 gmc terrains.the service air bag light and air bag warning bell constantly come on while i'm driving my car. It comes on when i start the car and continues to go on and off the entire time i'm driving.
After dealing with the repairs on excessive oil consumption issues, my warranty is now up and i am dealing with my car completely dying at a moments notice. This is not the battery as we've had both aaa and our mechanic test the battery several times - the issue, according to our mechanic, is "computer failure." essentially, i spent $400 four weeks ago for my mechanic to tell me that nothing was wrong except the computer stopped communicating to the car to "work" , and my car has still died twice since...with the keys stuck in the ignition.tonight is the third time my vehicle has died and it has not started up again. My car was parked in the driveway and i was unable to unlock it before the power completely dying.now i am unable to start or lock the vehicle again.and the keys are stuck in the ignition.i am still paying this car off and it is at 89,000 miles.i am beginning to come to terms with the fact that this is a complete loss, since no one can help diagnose the issue or solve the problem.we cannot afford to make monthly payments on a vehicle that stalls out every few weeks. I drive two small children around and i am just at a loss for how to proceed.
Burns to much oil and i can't keep up with the speed limit it's in and the shop got to put a new timing belt on
My truck experienced it's first problem in august of 2011.i had only had my truck for six months.the truck was entering onto the expressway and as i was pressing the gas the truck begin to stall.the reduced engine light came on and the truck decelerates and cut off.we were blessed that we were able to get to right shoulder of the road.we waited about ten minutes, the truck finally started and the engine light remained on.i contacted the dealer and took the truck in as soon as i could get an appointment.was told the truck was fixed and since i have been in five times for the same problem.the fact that the truck decelerates while driving on the expressway is enough that i don't want to drive the truck.i have been using other peoples cars and trucks because i don't want to put mine on the expressway out of own.it is a death trap waiting to happen and anyone driving a terrain should be made aware of the problem.the service department did everything possible and had to contact manufacturer about the problem and they could not narrow down the problem.they have replaced so many parts at this point i have lost track of things that have been replaced.this truck is not safe and the problem is not been resolved.the car still idles and shakes and no one plans to find out why as long as the engine light is not on.no one wants to take responsibility for this issue and it is really disappointing that the manufacturer would rather not deal with this problem and wait for a fatality to occur before looking into.you would think they would learn from toyota and take customers lives seriously.would they put there families in this truck ?i just want them to take the truck back because i don't want to use my life as an example for a defective truck.
Since i bought my truck i have been having multiple problems with the engine and transmission i've tried multiple times to contact the dealership to get my car looked at and they do not respond back to me i feel like they act as if i did no business with them on purchasing my car
The engine will randomly stall and shut off. There are several complaints of you google the problem. This is a serious safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain.the contact stated while driving 40 mph the vehicle stalled.the contact had to drive the vehicle to a safe place, turn it off and restart it.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer stated if the vehicle stalled again she should bring the vehicle back. The contact stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive.the failure mileage was 4,100.updated 09/14/11*lj updated 2/23/12
Our vehicle has experienced the rough idle and hard/stalled shifting since we bought it in 2011. It has been reviewed by the dealership and we were told a recent recall would fix the issue. It did not and these issues have continued. Recently, this issue happened again, followed by the check engine light turning on, followed by (a few hours later) the engine going into "reduced engine mode" and the entire vehicle shaking uncontrollably with thumping noises coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and restarted and within a few miles, this same issue happened again, which was very difficult to handle and very unsafe for travel in the city. We had to get a tow to the dealership and the service department at the dealership we bought this from says the throttle positions sensor is defective and needs replaced as well as there is a misfire in the injectors due to carbon buildup in the fuel line. None of these repairs are covered under the power train warranty, and this vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it currently. Upon research of these part, symptoms of this part going out are stalled shifting or hard shifting, as well as rough idling. Please research this case as i feel this is a more universal problem that has yet to be addressed properly.
When parking after driving , the key will not be released . You may have to turn the key on and off several times until it releases. There is also a problem with starting the car where you turn the key and the car will not start. On occasion (not every time) you need to turn the key on and off several times until it starts.this is an ongoing problem- still happening. Two different dealers have not been able to duplicate even though it happens multiple times daily.
Current key is 10+ years old. Steering locks up sometimes and cannot start car. It is hell to unlock steering. I ordered a new key bob about 5 weeks ago. Gmc parts says gm has not snet new key bob yet!!! so, steering may lock up and with no new key bob cannot drive car. So, i'm suppose to push car???
Transmission failure with no warning, torque converter replacement $3,500 around 120k miles. Check engine light unable to be diagnosed or repaired succesfully since 100k miles. Code p0420 with no catalytic converter issues. Every o2 sensor replaced, code will not clear. Stalls without any warning, low rpm, rough idles, engine just shuts down. No dash indicator lights illuminate when failure occurs.restarts. Oil must be changed early as it seems to consume too much. Undiagnosable. Have been told by every mechanic it could be computer related, timing chain related, regardless this 4cyl gmc has too many complaints for yheae issues not to have a recall. It is incredibly dangerous when random engine failure occurs and i have had more close calls fearing for my life in this vehiclethan i can recall at this point. I have spent almost the value of this vehicle in major repairs in the year i have owned it.
The car is only 5 years old and now the compressor and condenser are broken and need to be replaced.seem like gm products aren't holding up very well.i had to have freion added last year because the ac wouldn't work and again this year.
My terrain shut off the first time days after oil change while parked in a parking lot and running for 5 minutes. Days later while turning left at busy intersection to enter expressway it stalled and i barely rolled to side of road and was almost rear ended. Then a few days later while at a bus stop and ready to accelerate it stalled again. I had to restart.dealership would not take any responsibility. Had to get over $3000 in work on engine.
The automatic lift gate will open, reach the top and then automatically go down. It will go half way , pop back open to the top then fully shut. It does not read that something is stopping it from closing. The enclave, traverse, acadia and outlook are currently under recall with the same issue but not the terrain.
Replaced timing chain-51000 miles, now at 59000 miles and check engine light on: code; p00013xx cam position sensors (both) are coding as well as solenoids. This code comes before engine starts. Interior lighting often not working including shift indicator, wipers and defroster. Both at start and while driving.called local gmc- "not recalled and out of warranty.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. On several occasions, while attempting to drive, the key was locked in the ignition. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the tumblers may need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to gem city motors (406-433-3120, 701 s central ave, sidney, mt 59270) where no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The contact was advised to call nhtsa. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000. The vin was unavailable.
Engine randomly stalls while driving and refuses to start back up. No codes are being presented when it does stall.
Car randomly shuts off while driving it doesn't matter if i am on the highway or driving through the city, also engine power reduced mode. Throws random codes even after codes have been serviced. We have been dealing with this issue for close to 2 years with no resolve. After further investigation we have found there are multiple complaints of this exact issue.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the terminal cable ends and battery needed to be replaced due to corrosion. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure was 80,000.
Ignition completely turned off, i push button to turn on radio and i hear several tap, tap, tap, tap behind mid-dashradio-cd, a.c, heat control unit. I'm sure the tap, tap, tap, tap noise is door to air recirculation/no recirculation door that somehow activates unit actuator just by turning on radio! unbelievable! also, when i need to defrost windshield i turn temp knob to cold and the tap, tap, tap, tap noise happens! i do not turn on a/c compressor. Again, unbelievable!! this is a design defect for sure. I'm sure that to diagnose and repair the steering wheel, dash must be removed so tech,. Can gat to mis-designed parts. No customer should have to pay for this kind of design defect. I want gmcto oay to solve their design defect!!!this defect happens every time i turn on radio of do a cold defrost. Problem happens at any speed or when no key in ignition.
The 4 phone system developed static either bluetooth connection or using the onstar phone system. Over several months i changed phones at least 4 times. The static gets progessively worse as speed of the vehicle increase. At 70 miles per hour when a call is made from the vehicle the person on the other end can barely make out wha the person in the vehicle is saying. The vehicle has been in two separate dealerships. Vcim and microphone have been replaced twice. Gm customer service tells me that it is a technology issue and they are not responsible for it. Gm did work on it right up to the 36,000mile bumper to bumper. It was then their "field engineer" declared the system operated fine and there was no problem. Since then gm refuses to work on it. Their "engineer" made 1 phone call from the car for less than 4 minutes but put 86 miles on it and left it out of gas. Sitting still the system is static free. Moving it is almost useless. This is the safety aspect that bothers me is we purchased vehicle ($31,000.00) for bluetooth handsfree and onstar both of which are nearly useless at speed and gm refuses to do anything about it. This has been ongoing for 1.5 years. I have spent countelss hundreds of dollars on different phones and my time trying to get this issue fixed. Gm customer service is useless at any speed. If they advertise "handsfreeand bluetooth" it should work. Safety wise this is an issue because my wife has to resort to holding her phone while driving if she wants to be heard. I am afraid there is a more serious issue that will disable the onstar in an emergency. The public has been sold "technology" by all of the automakers. They tout it on tv but when it comes to it they won't fix it when it breaks.
My car shut off once while i was in idle at a red light and second time when i was backing up into a parking spot some one who was driving opposite me could have hit me when the car abruptly stopped. Luckily they were going very slow and stopped when my car stopped. The engine shuts off as well as the lights on the dash but when you put it in park and start it up again the engine starts back up and no check engine lights appear. Can you please look into this?
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power while driving at low speeds. The tpms warning indicator illuminated.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who checked the alternator and stated that the battery was low and the vehicle needed an oil change. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,790.
I was driving on i-75 when all of a sudden my 2011 gmc terrain slowed down tremendously. Also, the check engine light came on and the gage read engine power decreasing, service stabilitrak.i could have been killed and it was difficult for me to pull over to the shoulder. General motors need to recall and fix this before someone gets killed.come on general motors. I just recently paid nearly $5,000 for a new transmission because the vehicle wouldn't move while in drive and had the catalytic converter replaced. Lots of problems with this vehicle.
The engine or fuel system show a severe malfunction. When at a stop light, the rpm's drop so much that it shuts down sometimes, some others, it barely stays on. I called the dealership and told me that it was not a warranty covered repair and that i had to pay for the diagnostic plus whatever was wrong to repair (parts and/or labor). All of the sudden, now the "stability trac" check light goes on an off without apparent cause. I feel like i'm driving a vehicle from the 1950's. It's a great looking comfortable suv, but very disappointed with performance and fuel consumption.
Car has been a nightmare since we purchased it. Constantly breaking down and having to result in expensive repairs. 3 catalytic converters, engine used to shut off due to overheating. Engine reduce sign, stabilitrak problems. This has been the worst car to ever be created in the history of vehicles. I'd rather take the [xxx] busparts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
While driving message read reduced engine power lost all power could not control the steering wheel! then the car shut down and continued to roll down the highway .almost got hit by other cars from behind. Very frightening for me i almost got a panic attack. I managed to stop the car on the shoulder of the road with half of the car still blocking other cars .car will not start. The battery is new .i have done research on social media and there's thousands of gm customers who have or are facing the same issues. Is this another cover up by gm that's continuously ignoring this problem and the consumers are paying thousands of dollars in this repair. I was told i need repairs that will cost $4000 dollars on a 2011 gmc terrain car i got a year ago. This is ridiculous. Who is fighting for the consumers?
The same issue happened 3 times. November 2013, 28 january 2014, 16 february 2014. Each time the vehicle was in and idling situation red light, in a fast food drive thru, heavy traffic, or if i forgot something, left the car running, and went into the house to get what i was looking for, especially if it took me 4-5 minutes to find what i was looking for and return to the car. Additionally, i've experienced this moving at speeds of 8mph or less in thick traffic. (1) car would for no reason start rough idling. (2) the yellow check engine light would come on. (3) the engine reduced power message would appear. (4) the stabilitrak warning message light would then appear. (5) then i pressed the accelerator to cross an intersection and move out of the way of traffic, and the vehicle moves at a snail's pace (5-10 mph). (6) i let it sit for 10-30 minutes (or overnight if i was fortunate enough to be at home), restart it, and it runs like it normally does as if nothing ever happened. (7) the "yellow check engine light" simply disappears after a few hours. (8) sometimes there's a faint burning smell like a plastic garbage bag on fire, burning rubber, or overheated electronics. I'm taking it to my local gmc dealership today before i end up stranded somewhere or worse be the cause of a major serious accident! it's like it has a malicious code in the engine's computer system, and it selects the time and place when idling to inject itself! it may go several weeks or even months before it happens, but you can be confident it's going to happen! other than this annoying safety issue, the terrain in my opinion is a pretty good vehicle for its class. Makes me wish i had chosen the 6 cylinder instead of the 4 cylinder. I don't think the 6 cylinder is having this issue.gm/gmc should address this, and make this right asap!
I was driving on the highway and the car cut off as soon as i slowed down getting off the exit. I started the car back up and it said that the stabilitrack was off and that iwas losing engine power. I got to safety, checked my fluids and i had no oil in the car. But i changed the oil recently and had 3,000 more miles till my next oil change. I towed the car to my mechanic and described what happened. He told me that their was an internal engine failure that caused the timing belt to break. I called my insurance and they had a field adjuster look at the vehicle and he nor the mechanic could figure out why or how this happened on such a well maintained vehicle. They both stated that there is no way that i should have had 2 major system failures (i just replaced the transmission) with the current vehicle mileage. I called gmc and they will not so anything to help me. Their only solution is for me to tow it to a gmc dealership and they will look at it. I could've died in this car, i still owe on this car and they won't help me.
Almost a month after my oil change my engine started making noise and cutting off. When i took it to get checked, they said that my oil was gone and my engine is failing. Now my car is just sitting at the dealership, because the price is gonna be to high. Is their a recall for my 2011 g.m.c terrain
I bought this terrain used with 21000 miles on it.i have had 2 issues with the stabilitrac system needing serviced since then.both issues took place as i was starting the engine.i have many other complains of this vehicle.certainly wish i had my 2009 acadia with 165000 miles back.i agree gm needs to do something.
I purchased my car used in september two weeks later i started experiencing stalling and erratic jerking while driving. I took the car to the dealer where i purchased the car (while it was under warranty) and was told not to worry it's just the o2 sensors. The car was loosing oil like crazy.december the car became worse and stalled and would not start. The dealership informed me i need a new engine, i am no longer covered under warranty and still paying for this car. No one will help me so now i'm stuck with a payment and an inoperable car.. Oh did i mention i got a car fax once the car broke down to see the vehicle history the title is branded manufactor buy back/lemon..i have seen on several forums and google that many people have complained and gm will not do a recall this issue is totally unsafe and can cause serious injury.
During a normal commute on route on 2/15 received about 3 miles into the drive received a warning error - loss of engine power and the car would not accelerate. The car started shaking violently and received a stabilititrak error. The car was pulled to the side of the road and placed in neutral. The shaking became worse and the car was shut off. After two minutes the car was started again, with no issues and was driven 6 more miles without issue. After 6 miles of driving the same engine power warning and stabilitrack error came back. The car was violently shaking and the driver shut it off. It was towed to the dealership. The dealership received one code for the throttle sensor positioner. The code was reset and a loose connection was diagnosed as the fault and returned to owner. Five days later the car was started in the garage. Upon startup it started again to shake violently. The car was put in reverse and began to shake violently and the driver received a stabilitrak warning light. The car was shut off and was again towed to the dealership. The dealership found two codes crank position sensor and misfire. The car was driven five miles with no issues. The dealership cannot locate the root cause of the problem. This undiagnosed issue posses a severe safety risk to the owner of the car and family if it were to occur again while driving in congested traffic or on a highway.
I was driving on the highway at 60 mph and all of a sudden lost power.the reduced power and check stabilitrak messages appeared on the screen.i pulled over to the side of the road and turned the engine off.i immediately tried starting the vehicle again and it did, so went on my way.got down the road about three miles and the same thing, so pulled to the side of the road and turned the engine off.i tried to start the vehicle, but there was no response, everything was dead.i waited several minutes and tried again and it started.i continued on my way and didn't have anymore trouble getting to my destination.a couple of days later, the same thing happened except when i tried to turn the vehicle off, it continued to run very roughly and then finally shut off.it did start again and had the engine light on.i've had the vehicle to the local gmc dealer when the first incident happened, however when they tried to read the codes, there were no codes to read even though the engine light was on.i was told everything checked out fine.i was down the to dealer again today with the engine light on again, but before they could check it out, the engine light had gone out.to me this is a very serious problem as it can very easily cause an accident.so far i've been lucky that i haven't lost the power steering or brakes.
Vehicle stability control service light came on. Service engine light came on.vehicle engine power cut by 50%.safety issue - i was riding on the high way and the vehicle speed was cut from 70 to 30 - could have been killed.
While drive down the interstate my car said service stability track then said engine power reduced, speed dropped dramatically then shut off completely. Engine would not turn back over. Had it towed to the shop only to find out the engine locked up due to no oil. Dealer said it was due to a very common problem with gm with excessive oil consumption! i had my oil changed and a full tune up 2 weeks ago! called to check recalls only to find out that in fact there was an recall for excessive oil consumption but my vin wasn't involved. Dealer says in fact it should be! this could have caused a accident and caused my children and i to be seriously injured!
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving various speeds, the stabilitrak and loss of engine power indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.
Abs light is on even after fixing the supposed problem. System stabilitrak constantly on. Excessive use of oil. 2 to 3 quartz every 2 weeks. Reduced engine power comes up on dash and no matter how fast i am going (15 mph or 80 mph on a highway) it doesnt matter my car will slow down or just shut off. Also happens when i have to hit braked hard, slow down or accelerate from a stopped position. I am also using a lot of gas.
I had oil changed that morning. That night, while driving, "engine power reduced" and "service stabilitrac" lights came on and vehicle would not accelerate over 15 mph. I had to pull to the side of the freeway and turn off the vehicle, wait a few minutes and try again. It was fine until the next day when the same thing happened again. It has been one week and has happened multiple times everyday since. I read many complaints on-line addressing this same issue and stating that it is the throttle body. I took it to the dealer and the diagnostic said the throttle body needs replaced. This is a safety issue! imagine traveling 70 mph down the highway, and you lose power to your engine! this is an accident waiting to happen!
Well it appears that there are several complaints on here about the 2011 terrain stalling.it's been happening to me off and on the past several months.i would be in traffic and it would stall, i would be at a stop light and it would stall, i would go to back out of my driveway and it would stall.i took it in and they can't find anything wrong.well last night it finally died.great!!i heard noise when i started the vehicle that sounded like plastic water bottles rubbing together.i had a bag in my front seat so assumed it was nothing.it bucked forward as i put it into drive and stalled.well...the stalling i'd become accustomed to so i re-started.it seemed fine until i went to accelerate onto the main road...it bucked, started shuttering, and wouldn't go above 5 mph.i barely got it into a parking lot before it died.i counted no less than 5 similar reports on here.i live in the metro detroit area...had this happened on a highway or during rush hour, i could've been killed.someone needs to do something before gmc has yet another scandal on their hands or how many people have to be hurt, maimed, or killed before nhtsa gets involved??
While driving the vehicle stalled from 35-40 mph to 5 mph. A message came on the screen " engine power reduced". Had i been on highway that would be ended in accident. Contacted gm and everyone i have been talking to them seems to be reading a script to me.
I have been having an issue with the stability track/reduced engine power coming on. I will be driving and then the reduced engine power with an exclamation mark pops up, my car speed drops and then the car cuts off. The car would crank back up after sitting for a while. After researching this, i found that several other gmc, chevy and cadillacs had this same issue and were given the run around by gmc when trying to have it fixed. There was a recall for those vehicles but not the terrain.i have had the throttle body cleaned like suggested and that did not solve the problem.the problem occurs no matter if i am on the highway or regular streets. Being a single parent of 3 and legal guardian of 1 grandchild, i don't have money to keep trying to repair this issue. I had my transmission looked at and that was not the issue. How can i get them to correct the stability track/reduced engine power issue? i have been without my car for a week now. This is making it hard to get back and forth to work. I am actually calling the gmc headquarters to report this issue and then the better business bureau.
I have a 2011 gmc terrain about 62390 miles. When i am accelerating the car jerks. I took it to the dealer they state they could not find nothing wrong. I just got the fuel pump replaced due to a recall. And now a light came on that read ac off due to high engine temp but the temperature gauge showed cold and it never went to normal after being on for 20 mins and to this day is goes to the notch right before normal. Also when the fuel is low the light does not come on. I called the dealership and they stated they have to duplicate the problem to fix it but i cant bring it in until 12/16/2016 because they are booked
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the oil consumption was very high on the vehicle ever since it was purchased. The vehicle was taken to gateway buick gmc (11438 lyndon b johnson fwy, dallas, tx 75238), but they declined to repair the vehicle per tsb number: pip51630 (oil consumption), nhtsa id number: 10144451 because the vehicle was above the stipulated mileage. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 122,000.
Purchased a 2011 gmc terrain in may with 94k miles.w?hen change oiil light came on, took to a gmc dealer to have it serviced.drove it home about 50 miles, parked in garage and 4 days later started it.engine made a weird noise so i turned it off.would not start again and had it towed to a local garage who tells me the timing chain broke and bent all the valve stems and damaged the heads. The vehicle is financed so i'm making payments on a worthless suv that now needs a new engine at a cost of about 7500.00.
Excessive oil consumption. Have to put 1 to 2 quarts every 300-500 miles. Even after just having an oil change and tune up.car also gets jerky when driving and it is switching between gears - i have an automatic. Can happen when at a stop and then going or happen in the middle of driving while accelerating.
I had pressed on the brake to yield before entering a round a bout and without warning my terrain shut off. I was able to put it in park and restart it. However not even a mile down the road turning into a parking lot it shut off again with out warning. I was able to coast out of the way thankfully and put the car in park and then restart it. Then again this afternoon turning in my driveway it shut off again with out warning. Other than today the car has shut off with out warning 3 other times. I can't make it 3000 miles before i need another oil change as well. I have the timing belt break on me, the actuators have been replaced multiple times. I've lost count on how many times my car has been in shop over the last year. I'm very afraid that the engine is going to shut off again without warning and cause and accident with my kids in the car.
I was traveling down the road with my family in the vehicle when all of a sudden the vehicle decelerated and starting vibrating and operating roughly.the stabilitrak/reduced engine power trouble light was displayed.this certainly became an immediate safety concern because the vehicle could only accelerate to 15 to 30 mph.i was able to manage the problem long enough to return home, which was only a few miles away from the onset.i have always had performed the required scheduled maintenance on this vehicle.however, since purchasing this vehicle new in 2011 and experiencing multiple recalls and a air bag safety issue and now this, i have become concerned about the reliability and safety of this vehicle.the vehicle has only 61,000 miles on it and should not be experiencing this type of problem.i believe gmc corporation should make a concerted effort to recall any of their vehicles with this problem.
My terrain has 104,000 miles i was driving it when the timing belt broke and destroyed the engine. The mechanic says it was due to lack of oil changes but that is a lie because i went to the dealership every time and i had on star active so the could remind me too i brought it to barker gmc in you ma la they have a record of my service.i was driving my car on the highway when it started shaking and it just quit working went completely out i had to have it tow away.i even called gm motor with no results now it wil cost over 7000.00 for a new motor i just finished paying for my car i can't afford this please. Help
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while attempting to drive the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vvt solenoid was replaced. The contact stated that while driving, and making a slight right turn, the vehicle hesitated but continued driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that there was a communication failure. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to an authorized gmc dealer. The vehicle was later taken to coggin buick gmc in jacksonville (7245 blanding blvd, jacksonville, fl 32244) where the contact was informed that the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. Additionally, without the check engine warning light being illuminated, the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The failure recurred twice. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
My car has cut off on me approximately 12 times in the last week. Almost cause a wreck one time because it happened while i was pulling out onto the highway.luckily i was able to coast out of traffic in time.usually happens when when i'm at a low speed or sitting idle.
Diagnosed with oil consumption problem, p0014 code for check engine light, showing 10 degrees on scanner, recommended timing chain alignment, my car shut off while driving it, gmc has class action lawsuit, told me my vin was eligible for it, but will not let me submit a claim, i have owned this car for a year, constant oil changes about every 2 months.
I have a 2011 gmc terrain with 59000 miles on it and the catalic convertor is rotting away and i was wondering if there was any other problems or if it will be covered
Proven oil consumption problem on my car as well as many others leading to a class act which has failed just about everyone. Car is completely unsafe and these cars require a new engine among other fixes in order to avoid the engine blowing. My engine blew on the highway with no warning despite regular oil changes and maintenance. The oil consumption problem has been documented by gm and they are still negligent to the issue. The car was in motion on the highway going around 70 mph when the engine blew. There is supposed to be an oil light signifying low oil which did not go off as well as doing 3 oil consumption tests mandated by gm in order for them to do any repairs. All were failed tests and gm still pushed for more tests that required me to keep driving it. Despite the failed tests they still fought it and the engine blew over this time.
While i was driving 35-45 miles per hour the truck turned off on its own so i parked truck on the side of the road. I waited a few minutes and tried to turn vehicle on again, it turned on again and i continued driving 20-30 per hour. Then after being stopped at a red light when it turned green i stepped on the gas and there was a loud sound plus we felt like it hadjumped.
My car has been wasting to much engine oil for no reason
Car rattles on start up and seems to be noisier than it should be.drivers seat heater utilizes high heat no matter what settings it is on. If heater is left on i get a burning smell. Poor fuel economy, at best i get 22 mph.engine runs rough in eco mode especially at an idle. I have had an occasional issue with hard downshifts when i decelerate then accelerate. I do mostly city driving.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that her vehicle would fail to start up after multiple attempts with an unknown engine warning light illuminated on the dashboard. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure but stated that the failure was likely caused by a defect inside the engine. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,497.
We were driving towards a stop sign and all of a sudden the car started shaking and slowed down on its own, the dashboard read stabilitrak off, engine power reduced, and the engine light came on. We could barely drive the car, so parked and turned it back on and the problem stopped, but the engine light stayed on. If this had happened on the highway it would have caused an accident. I took it to the shop to run the computer and it reports the throttle body needs replacing. This is a known issue with chevy and gmc cars (many reports on chevy and gmc forums and other websites, and my mechanic said it was common as well) and needs to be recalled before people seriously get injured.
After a 2 hour highway drive i noticed the vehicle began running loud, a rattling noise coming from the engine as i was getting off the highway. After parking and shutting the vehicle down and letting it rest, i went to restart it. Again it was still loud but quickly shut itself off and would not start back up. Upon inspection, the timing chain went out causing, to quote the service manager, "catastrophic engine damage" that was well beyond able to be repaired.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 1-5 mph, the abs and traction control warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle showed excessive oil consumption. The contact stated that one quart of oil needed to be added every three days. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Gusweiler gm center (located at 1132 state rte 41, washington court house, oh 43160, (877) 643-0142) was notified of the failure via phone. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
Timing chain broke and ruined engine. 4100 dollars to fix.65500 miles
This car stalls for no reason while driving.i have fixed it multiple times but no fix works.it stalled on me while exiting the freeway yesterday, very scary situation.i am worried i will be in a wreck.i press the gas and the car will not accelerate.very dangerous in certain situations.especially when it stalls while making a turn in a intersection.almost got t-boned the other day when it stalled while a car was oncoming.since gm is not willing to acknowledge the problem and have not fix in place i will be getting rid of the car at my loss.
On a highway way home and says reduced engine power like 3 days after getting transmission replaced had to get it towed i had my kids with me and mechanic told me it's the engine it had no oil in it when it did have oil before that happened it didn't show leaking or nothing now i'm out of my money under 86,000 miles yet 2011 terrain
Third engine in vehicle. Needs 2 quarts of oil in between oil change. Oil light never comes on.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that there was internal oil consumption failure concerning the engine, which affected other components in the vehicle. The independent facility who sold the vehicle to the contact was to have their mechanic provide an oil consumption test; however, they indicated that the manufacturer had a special coverage campaign to provide a remedy. The dealer (mandal buick gmc in d'lberville, ms 39540, (228) 392-1515) was contacted and indicated that the vehicle was out of warranty by two months. The dealer was to provide an oil consumption test as well; however, the contact had not approved the dealer to provide the testing due to the vehicle being excluded from a warranty campaign. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but provided no specific testing recommendation. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
The contact owns 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle there was a knocking and clicking sound coming from the engine. The contact coasted into a parking lot and added two quarts of oil. Fifteen to twenty minutes later, the failure recurred with the noise louder. The contact stated that the vehicle started to shake, lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was shifted into neutral and restarted. Additionally, while making a right turn going downhill, the vehicle lost motive power. The brake was depressed but failed to stop the vehicle adequately. The brake pedal was depressed numerous times for the vehicle to come to a stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was later towed to stockton gmc dealer, (address unknown, (814) 238-4905) and was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000. The vin was not available.
Almost a month after my oil change my engine started making noise and cutting off. When i took it to get checked, they said that my oil was gone and my engine is failing. Now my car is just sitting at the dealership, because the price is gonna be to high. Is their a recall for my 2011 g.m.c terrain
While driving the vehicle stalled from 35-40 mph to 5 mph. A message came on the screen " engine power reduced". Had i been on highway that would be ended in accident. Contacted gm and everyone i have been talking to them seems to be reading a script to me.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that at start up and while driving the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that damage oil rings caused severe oil consumption which in turn destroyed the engine and catalytic converter. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Engine had to be replaced at 84,000 miles . States on docs at time of replacement timing chain and cam worn due to low oil .has warranty but for replacing due to 'oil consumption ' but service manager refuses to write that although he has stated it.gm refuses to help
Multiple times my gmc stalls while in movement. Does it when i am making turns driving slow speeds or backing up. Multiple times it has resulted in my vehicle almost being hit. Big problem i am having as well is that oil seems to burn fast. I get my oil changes regularly but have to go back into shop between oil changes for them to put more oil in as its burning out so quickly. I am not leaking oil at all!! these two things have been a constant problem being a mom i am scared to have m uh kids in the car that it may malfunction while they are in it and result in an accident. Recalls should be in place to fix these problems as they are serious problems.
Driving on expressway car began to smoke from under hood. Pulled over and placed car in park. Briefly caught fire under hood due to oil coming out. After inspection of cause, rod went through cylinder block causing oil leakage and blown engine. Recall unknown however i was informed that this was a common issue and there is a service bulletin out for it.
We purchased a 2011 gmc terrain may 29th 2018 used with 70000 miles from the hazleton nissan from the hazleton auto mall here in pa. It now has 78000. Had two oil changes done already. There is definitely a excessive oil consumption problem with this vehicle as i just got a oil change hut the 50 percent oil life and having issues again. We have contacted hazleton nissan found out they were closing after signing a " set for life" contract which had a powertrain warranty. Now i cannot use my warranty.anywayi was driving home tonight from work on interstate 81 when the car without warning just cut off and lost all power. He got it to the side of the highway and had to put it in neutral and restart it. After it started he brought it to a gas station where it had stalled again. Got it almost home and stalled again. God forbid my children were in this car when this car decided to cut off and he had no brakes no steering nothing. Nissan in hazleton was aware of this and i can't even use my warranty that they signed and i signed. I was promised something that i cannot use. Gmc had a call from us around 73000 miles and i told them it was clicking and stalling. They wouldn't touch it bc nissan is the one who sold it to me and the contract was with them, but they are no longer open so what do i do now? i cannot afford a huge fix hence why i got this car bc the warranty and i wouldn't have to pay for anything if it fell under the powertrain which it is. If i needed a new motor i would get one for free see what i am saying? someone could seriously get hurt or even die and this is our only vehicle can someone please help me? kept up with all oil changes also. This is very dangerous and should be fixed. I fear for my wife and children as they always are using this car.
My gmc terrain has stalled out while driving at highway speeds 65-70mph (i wasn't turning, stopping, or switching lanes). Completely shut off, no power steering or power brakes. I was able to coast over 3 lanes of traffic, in rush hour, and come to a stop on the shoulder. The truck would not restart. Previous times it stalled, and i was able to put it in neutral and turn it back on. Today (january 6th, 2016) however, it would not turn on. It would crank, but that's it. I called a tow truck and have it at the dealership now.
"excessive oil consumption" after having the oil consumption tests performed on my truck it was discovered that my vehicle needed the rings and pistons replaced, therefore, on january 18th, 2016 my truck went into rogers chevrolet (now known as michael bates) to have this done, under the special warranty known as excessive oil consumption. I received my truck back on january 25th, 2016 after being told it was fixed. Once my free oil changes were up in march of 2016, i either took my truck for oil changes or my uncle, grandfather or myself conducted the oil changes (you will see the receipts on this). After some time i started to use oil again, more than normal. When i inquired with rogers chevrolet i was told that my truck should be fine because they already replaced the pistons and rings and that my engine is just going to burn oil because the way gm built the motor and to keep extra oil on hand. Well on01/30/2019 i was on the highway doing around 75mph when my engine failed. I almost was in an accident on the 3 lane highway! i was advised to have it towed to a nearby dealer in which i did. I was informed that the pistons blew through the bottom of the motor, and then i was advised to provide receipts in which i did, and now i am being told the special warranty is expired in which it is not i am only at 109,000 miles and it was last serviced for this special warranty in 2016, therefore, it should be covered until the 120,000 miles like indicated on the warranty bulletin. This issue is very dangerous and fatalities are going to happen if this doesn't get addressed and fixed properly. The maintenance on my truck is excellent, i took very good care of it, and i have the receipts to prove it, however, i did some research after this happened to me and i was informed that there must be a problem with the block/heads in the motor for it to do this and gm has to know this!
Vehicle needs a transfer case seal replaced . Also it has a stabilitrac warning which shuts the car down caused by excessive oil usage.gmc has warranty on some of the models depending on which plant made them.the dealership informed me of the transfer case issue during a routine oil change.the stabilitrac issue was on the highway
My gmc terrain 2011 is having trouble accelerating, and i hear a noise from the engine. When i am at a stop light and i try to accelerate, it pulls and doesn't go forward. It's stalking my terrain. I did some research, and i found that this vehicle has a recall #12313d- special coverage adjustment- engine balance chain and fuel pump. I looked up, and it seems this vehicle has 0 unclaimed recalls. So, i'm concern because this vehicle is stalling and not working as it should be. The recall does say, 'if left untreated, could cause the chain to break, leading to engine damaged.
Odb code p0014/p0017 is a gmc recall and i would very much like to bring it and let you guys fix it because it is becoming a problem!
Takata recall : sucking up oil, rattling sound, car jerking forward- diagnosis from gmc dealership- replace pistons, timing rings, and actuators, vehicle had 1 quart of oil and vehicle had regular oil checks and was in shop less than a year prior. This was a known recall by the dealership. 59k mileage on vehicle . We have letter and all documents
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while driving approximately 65 mph. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power train belt failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
I was driving the car through a tunnel with my young daughter. The engine stopped. The check engine light had just gone on earlier that day, as we were driving first the "engine power reduced" warning went on then the engine died.
Takata recall when at a complete stop and starting to go the suv will stall right where it is at. No warning light. Just dies!
I have a 2011 gmc terrain that has around 73,000 miles on it, and the timing jumped, causing the car to die in the middle of the road, and would not restart at all.when i called gmc customer care, they were slightly helpful, until they found i purchased the car used..i believe at the low mileage of my vehicle, that it should not have jumped time.i am really upset that gmc basically told me "too bad" when they found out i purchased used.
Vehicleconsumes 2 quarts of all every 1500 miles only had the truck fora year and a half. Also it has this terrible rattling noise.
I bought a used 2011 gmc terrain with a clean carfax and 35000 miles on it.i have had nothing but problems.the car burn at least a quart of oil every 2 weeks.the constantly just cuts off when driving.gmc needs to do sometime about this before peolpe are killed.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the tail pipe overheated while driving 50 mph, causing the rear cargo carrier basket to catch on fire. The fire spread to the bumper and the contact was able to extinguish the fire but the fire department was also present. The vehicle was taken to a local body shop for repair. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 25,232.
Due to a faulty pcv design my vehicle experienced a rear main seal failure. It was externally cold. The same as in bulletin 14882. Gmc states that my vehicle is not covered.
The contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled with the reduced engine power and serviced stability track warning lights illuminated. The contact removed the ecm and replaced the module prior to restarting the vehicle however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to joe mahan for (211 memorial dr, paris, tn 38242, (731) 642-4711) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and schedule a vehicle inspection. The contact was informed that the exhaust cylinder and high pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 141,000. The vin was not available.
Service stabilitrak pops up, engine goes into reduced power mode. Third time happening and dealership has done nothing to fix it besides charge me money.car has 96k miles at this point and iā€™ve spent more money to fix it than itā€™s worth.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. After an independent mechanic performed an oil change, the vehicle sputtered and stalled. In addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to freeman buick grapevine (501 tx-114, grapevine, tx 76051, (817) 264-7746) where it was diagnosed that a new camshaft actuator valve needed to be installed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,011.
Excessive oil use. 1 qt of oil every 300 to 500 miles. I have 104,600 miles on car.also had timing chain failure at 95,212 miles while driving. I believe this is a serious safety hazard and the car needs to be recalled. My engine is a 2.4 eco
The engine will randomly stall and shut off. There are several complaints of you google the problem. This is a serious safety hazard.
Car completely shuts down and loses all power/activity after starting it up, putting gear into drive, and trying to accelerate.wheel gets stiff and car stops moving.this first happened within a year of buying the vehicle and has happened a second time mid ownership.during these times, the car just would not start for about 30 mins to an hour.lately and several times a week now since mid-october, the car will start but completely shut down to the point where the car is shutting down at red lights, stop signs and anywhere i have to stop.it may take 3-5 times to repeat the process of starting the car and putting it back into drive before it drives without shutting down and me making to my destination.
Driving on the highway and engine stalled on me and wouldnt go. So i rolled over to the side of the highway to pull over. When i stop the car, i see smoke coming from under dash board and under hood. So i get out real fast and open hood. I look down in front of the engine and the engine is on fire. I poured some water on it but did not put it out. Called 911. And backed away. Fire put its self out before 911 got there. Had it towed to firestone. In examination.they said engine piston blew a hole on the side of the engine. I just bought the car used and had it for 4 months when this happened. Now i am stuck paying for a car that is sitting in my driveway because it is in operable. I cannot afford $10000.00 for another motor to be installed, which was what i was quoted.
The vehicle is out of the window on the oil consumption lawsuit; however it has been burning oil since i have had it and i kept taking it in and they didn't mention anything about a problem said it was normal. By the time i found out about the lawsuit i was out of that period. Can i get the vehicle repaired, i am putting oil in constantly
"takata recall"my vehicle is burning 2-3 quarts of oil between scheduled oil changes.i have returned it to the dealership 3 different times, only to be told nothing was wrong with the vehicle.i have researched this thoroughly, and there are hundreds of similar complaints regarding extreme oil consumption.the vehicle is only driven in the city.i very rarely take it on an interstate or highway. There are no signs of leakage on my driveway, parking spot at work, or on the underneath side of the vehicle.
2011 gmc terrian, current mileage 60,179 purchased used from northwest motorsports valley ave. Puyallup, car started pinking and i spoke to the salesman car was purchased from.i was told to take vehicle to gmc harnish river road.i was told by gmc harnish there was an oil consumption recall with my vehicle and my vehicle was placed on a oil consumption worksheet. Once documented piston and rings would be replaced free of charge. Vehicle was brought in to monitor the oil consumption which it did use oil and oil had to be added. At the end of the oil work sheet i brought my car in for repair under gmc harnish request. Gmc harnish then refused to honor piston and ring repair. Northwest motorsports will not pay to have mechanical problem repaired.
Exhaust manifold cracked, allowing fumes into car
My vehicle had been having to common oil consumption meaning i checked the oil every time i got fuel. This last time i went to check the oil level the dipstick was under so much pressure it shot twenty feet into the air when the hood opened. I then drove the vehicle from the gas station back home and this time took the oil fill cap off and when i turned the cap a quarter turn it blew off into the air followed by burning hot oil droplets and steam. When i run the vehicle for any amount of time the oil drain back system builds more pressure then the cooling system eventually causing the vehicle to stall under load such as when taking off from a stop. When the vehicle does stall it will take from 2-10 minuets to restart.
2011 gmc terrain with cracked exhaust manifold found during safety inspection.
The car was taken into steven lust automotive and we were told that a transfer seal needed to be replaced and that gmc was aware of the issue but would only warranty the issue if the car was produced in a certain factory.same year same model all having same issue but produced in a different plant.now the stabililtrac warning comes on and from research on the web this is a common issue that they are aware of also but refuse to fix.this car only has 66000 miles on it. We also contacted gmc and they told us that they are aware of the problem but will not warranty it unless is was produced at a certain factory.when the stabilitrac warning was noted i was driving down the highway and the engine just shut down.i do believe this issue is due to the excessive oil leak coming from the seal.this is the second time that i have placed this complaint.when i called to confirm that i placed the complaint no one could find it.
"takata recall"when starting the vehicle the engine sounds like a diesel engine, then evens out and sound like the gas engine that it is. What can cause this.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving, the transmission was shifting into a lower gear and the vehicle could not exceed 2 mph. The vehicle was pulled over and towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine seized. The contact researched and learned that the failure was due to the engines of the 2011 gm models. Denooyer chevrolet (127 wolf rd, albany, ny 12205, (518) 458-7700) stated that there was no recall for the failure and admitted that there was no way the contact could have known the engine would seize. The manufacturer agreed with the dealer and informed the contact that they had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer and pay for labor costs. The manufacturer stated that they may consider paying 10% of the total repair cost. The vehicle was currently at the independent mechanic and had not been repaired. The manufacturer called back and stated that they might help pay off the vehicle loan as long as the contact purchased another gm vehicle. The failure mileage was 81,000.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the stability track control warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked and hesitated. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road and the vehicle stalled. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle 2-3 times before being able to proceed driving. The contact stated that while stopped at the next traffic light, the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle was restarted however, while driving the vehicle failed to exceed 40 mph. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who stated that the spark plug and coil needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The contact took the vehicle to another certified mechanic who diagnosed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced because sensors within the vehicle, due to the excessive oil consumption, were clogging up the pistons. The vehicle was repaired however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The contact was referred to the dealer for assistance and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
I use 1 qt.of oil every 450 miles and there is a loud clattering noise on initial start up
My car has been wasting to much engine oil.has had two oil changes in the last three months.at start up and while driving the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated.while driving the vehicle there is a knocking and clicking sound coming from the engine at low speeds andespecially when you first start the car until i get to higher speeds.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while exiting the freeway at 30 mph, the vehicle seized without warning. The contact attempted to turn the vehicle on 3 to 4 times and it resumed back to normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer mastria buick gmc (1525 new state hwy, raynham, ma 02767 (800)-821-1998) where it was diagnosed with excessive engine oil consumption and the piston ring needed to be replaced. The oil was replaced in the vehicle but no further repairs were completed. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 158,396.
Yet again, another costly engine repair. Car would not accelerate properly, engine seemed to be back firing. Then check engine light came on (code p0016). Gmc dealer said the timing chains needs to be replaced. $2300. Yet, they will create a recall for a seat. But not an unsafe engine. Hope lives won't be lost, like with the ignition fiscal. Smh.
I was driving on a city streetand the stabilitrac words came up on my dash.then it said powering down.then my vehicle started running rough and i pulled over and shut it off.i waited a minute and shut off traction control button. Then started again and a few minutes later the words came on again and it started running rough.i shut it off again and waited and got it home slowly about 3 miles.
2.4 l 4 cylinder engine , rear main seal leak, leaking a lot of oil ,gmc bulletin number 14882 , they have hour some of their 2.4 engine vehicle, i have the same problem based on mechanic diagnosis, poring oil out from main seal between engine and transmission .leak continues and this oil leak goes all the way of back of vehicle, it causing abs sensor read wrong, at rear and also smokes under car because leaks goes to exhaust unit.please i need this issue looking in to to recall , this rules applies 120 k miles, 10 years, i wanted to get this recalled because they are hiding info, so they wound t fix more affected vehicle, i have been nail down by vin, however leak does not get check out byvin , leaks will be check by tech, mechanic or service department. So i have been given run around, i have seen so many post at social media, that they have been denied by vin. Problem is still exist out there millions affected with those engine main seal issues.
Now i did not have an incident. Im writing you because i very recenrly bought a used 2011 gmc terrain sle . And like everything else i do my research. And the one thing ive noticed is a whole lot of people have had the same very serious problem with there car. The stability control light comes on and the reduce speed light as well. And immediately slows the vehicle to a speed of 10 mphs. As well as locking the steering wheel. Unbelievably dangerous. Ive personally read almost 100 cases of the same thing all across the country. All with this same vehicle. Its a miracle nobody was killed. Now for my point. What are you and gmc doing waiting to fix this problem. Are you waiting for somwone to lose there life. As a parent myself this is very troubleing.if me or my family is to be harmed because of somwone elses neglegence would be a terrible tragedy. Someone needs to fix this problem. Ive read the reports i have read these peoples pleas. And nothing is being done. How do you sleep at night
I was in the drive thru line with the engine running. When it was time to move forward, i put the truck in drive and as soon as my foot hit the gas pedal it stalled. I started the engine back up and tried to drive forward and the engine stalled again. This has occurred about 10 times since i have owned the vehicle (in cold and mild weather). I took it back to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated while her husband was driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle towed to an independent mechanic, who informed that contact that the balance chain needed to be replaced.the contact called local dealer woody buick gmc located at 1585 w ogden ave, naperville, il 60540, (888) 461-9066, and informed the dealer of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
Enginehas burned 2qt. Of oil between oil change which i didn't know. Engine seized up. It just stopped. Had it tow to dealer they want 9000.00 dollars to fix. Still have suv but dose not run. Do buy gmc terrain .
While driving along with ongoing traffic the vehicle stops and almost caused me an several accidents.
Engine randomly stalls while driving and refuses to start back up. No codes are being presented when it does stall.
Significant exhaust fumes accumulating inside passenger cabin during idle/stop.volume of gases smell less while in motion but still evident.significant reduction in engine power noticable; as well as erratic noise from the engine and extemely hesitant acceleration response.
I purchased the vehicle in march 2018. From the date of purchase, the service engine and/or change oil lights would turn on. Every time i took the vehicle to my mechanic, it needed oil. In january 2020, i got a notice from gmc about the settlement of a lawsuit regarding vehicle oil consumption. I took the vehicle to my local gmc and the manager read the "notice of approval of class action settlement and claim form" that was sent to me. The lawsuit requires gmc to pay for repairs or reimburse customers for the repairs. My vehicle had not had the necessary repairs done to it, so the manager instructed me to approve the necessary repairs and pay for them out of pocket because gmc would reimburse me. The repairs were completed on february 7, 2020.i followed all the guidelines provided to me by gmc in order to get the reimbursement. I mailed documents to them a week after the repairs were completed, months before the deadline of may 16, 2020. After waiting over a month and not getting reimbursed, i called gmc customer services (1-866-790-5600) on april 11, 2020. I was informed by gmc customer service to expect a reimbursement check for repairs and rental car fees within two weeks. After not receiving the reimbursement, i called again in june and july 2020 and given the same information-wait. This continued throughout the summer. The delay was blamed on covid-19. I called again in late september 2020, and they instructed me to email all the documents and that the check would arrive in two weeks. On september 30, 2020, i emailed all the documents to gmc. After waiting another two weeks, i called them and they again said it would come in two weeks. On november 10, 2020,i sent another email asking for the reimbursement check. A week later, i got a letter stating i did not qualify for reimbursement because the time had passed/expired.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving thevehicle, a loud abnormal noise was heard. The contact took the vehicle to dick norris buick gmc (30777 us hwy 19, north palm harbor, fl, 34684 (727) 787-8663) where it was diagnosed that the engine oil was consumed prematurely and the engine piston ring failed.the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-516-964-0426. The manufacturer stated that the engine replacement warranty expired on january 20, 2019. The manufacturer also stated that the warranty did not cover vehicles with over 120,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 68,500.
2011 gmc terrain.consumer writes in regards to engine problems and several other issues with vehicle.the consumer stated the district manager of gm refused to allow the dealer to check the ecm/ecu and other appropriate systems, to make sure all the engine settings were as they should be, since he experienced several strange events, such as the shifter hanging in d sometimes as he tried to move to park, very low mpg for several days 24-25 mpg, when he usually got 28-33 mpg. The oil percent meter used to be at 95%. The engine would rev to 7k-8k rpm when the first started and held 2-3 seconds. Sometimes the engine revved to 1600-1800 rpm and the vehicle would almost stall, and sometimes the malfunction indicator light would illuminate on the instrument panel. Soon after, the fan belt began to squeal. The squealing began, when the vehicle was started or when driving at various speeds with the ac on, and going up some slopped highways, roads and streets. The dealer replaced the belt. In the summer of 2011, when the vehicle was started the engine would make a chattering-tapping metal-to-metal sound, as it there were no oil in the engine. The problem would occur with a cold or hot engine. The problem stopped after p0011 error solenoid was replaced.
Car stalled after stopping for a light.pulled over in a turn lane put the car in park and back in drive and it was fine. Dealer could not find a problem.now car has a rattle making it sound like a diesel engine.again dealer not finding a problem.
We bought it used in 2013 and shortly after it started have serious issues . It started with the traction control light coming on and it power down. Then it would stay running spitting and sputtering after we turned the key off . So then we received a letter stating there is a recall and take it to the dealership to have it fixed . So they fixed it or at least they said it was , so we continued to drive it and the engine light came on and stayed on so i took it back and they said it was the throttle body and catalytic convert . Then we changed those parts and it still has the engine light on and spitting and sputtering after we turn the key off.
I bought the car used three weeks ago. The check engine light came on the other day and i had the code read. It said my intake camshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The light turned off a day later, but i called the dealership anyways and they said sometimes it will just red codes wrongand not too worry about it right now. A few days after that i was at a stop light and went to accelerate and my care shut off. This then happened the next day after i was pulling out of a parking spot and later the same day when i went to park my car on the street. It seems to happen when the car is in low idle.i have read numerous complaints by other gmc terrain owners who have the same issue. I don't need to be stuck in traffic stalled with the possibility of being hit.
While driving on the highway at 45 mph, the vehicle remained running but abruptly stopped. I could have been hit from behind with serious consequences. It left me stranded on a 2 lane road unable to move out of the lane. This is a serious problem with this vehicle. Gm needs to address this problem.
I have taken my terrain to the dealership a countless number of times for various repairs. The latest issue is the "engine power is reduced!" notification. While i was at a complete stop, i heard an extremely loud rattling noise come from under the hood of my car. I turned the ignition off to see if the noise would stop. To my surprise the car did not immediately restart. After turning the key several times the car started but with an even louder rattling noise. I tried to later take the car to the mechanic only to find that the car would not crank again. After repeatedly trying to crank the car, it finally started. I was not able to drive faster than 15 miles per hour. I later found out that i needed much more than a catalytic converter (gmc dealership advised that this may be the issue), instead i needed a new engine that may not be covered although i was still within my factory warranty.this car is horrible stay far, far away...
Excessive oil consumption piston ring wear
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 20 mph and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact pulled over and had to restart the vehicle six times. The vehicle was taken to vestal buick gmc (900 nc-66, kernersville, nc 27284, (336) 996-5780) and the camshaft position actuator was replaced. The manufacturer was notified.the failure mileage was 71,297.
About a month after purchasing this brand new vehicle, there were several times that after starting the car & putting it into gear, it stalled. There has also been times that after driving it for a while & coming to a stop sign, then getting ready to pull out into traffic, it either stalls or hesitates. There were a few close calls where there could have been a major accident. Taking this to the dealer did nothing. They said they have heard of this before, but unless it did it at their dealership, they couldn't fix the problem. Another issue i have had is that many times the transmission doesn't shift properly & it revs up more than it should before actually shifting & when it does, there is a major clunk. I have owned many cars in my lifetime, this car always on startup, makes a terrible noise at first which to me sounds like it's not getting any oil or that the bearings have a problem. That noise goes away after a few seconds.another issue i have, as do all other terrain owners, is that the sticker on the window from gm when buying this car, stated that this car would get 23 mpg city, & 32 mpg highway. Most all my miles are highway miles, & the most i ever get is 22 mpg. This was the main reason for buying this car in the first place. I think gm should be held accountable for this grossly mis-representation of what i would be getting for gas mileage. I am not that wealthy where i can just go out & buy a new car every year, but am fearful that with the car stalling out whenever it feels like, that i may have an accident. I am also not thrilled with the noise it make when i start it, & wonder how long before it doesn't run.i now have 36,000 miles on it with these issues, my last vehicle that i traded in for this had 250,000 trouble free miles. Gm needs to buy this back, or lifetime warranty on motor along with free gas to make up for the 10 mpg i'm not getting.
Excessive engine oil consumption about a quaker of oil every 2000 miles.this vehicle was bought from a non gmc as used certified with 145450 miles date 01/18/2019. By then then vehicles was classified as recall. With especial coverage warranty from gmc please see bulletin number 15285a. I reach out to gm customer engagement center of ca, but they refused to pay for diagnoses fees and repairs , quote the vehicle is over 120000. I had also made a complain to the better business bureau. I would like gmc pay for diagnoses and repairs to a certified local gmc dealership.thank you for you helprespectfully, customer
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same failure as listed in the manufacturer special coverage adjustment (plugged pcv orifice in intake manifold sb-10057977-8108, bulletin no. 14882). Bob brown buick gmc (1405 se oralabor rd, ankeny, ia 50021, (515) 344-3574) diagnosed that the rear main seal failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired since it was excluded from the manufacturer service campaign. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000. Consumer stated design is flawed and not repaired.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that there was an oil leak and the vehicle shifted erratically. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times where it was confirmed that there was an oil leak and the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the transmission was eventually replaced but both failures recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 26,000.
I purchased a 2011 terrain not knowing there was an issue with the excessive oil consumption.i have called gmc for a fix and have been told that nhsa is the one who decides what vin # get a letter to get the motor fixed.i disagree with this since fir the other vin# are having the same issue why would you not include all models experiencing this issue? my question is how can i get this resolved to get gmc to send me the letter that others have received regarding this issue?
Fuel pump failure allowing gasoline into crankcase in large volumes. Rough idle, constant stalling, misfiring, fuel smell recirculating into cabin.exact issue addressed by gm recall for my exact terrain and equivalent chevy equinox with 2.4 ecotec.was told mine was not covered as it wasn't in correct vin range though same make, model, year, motor, highly dangerous combustible issue matched.dealer charged me $700+ for replacement/repair of fuel pump, both o2 sensors, fuel line, oil change to rid gas diluted oil.2 days, 50 miles later, o2 code engine light comes on, erratic idling begins, power loss then stalls. Removed oil cap to smell and find gasoline mixed back into oil. Between 1/8 - 1/4 quart gasoline in the crankcase after 50 miles of driving! this after "repair" at "certified" chevy dealership; a dangerous manufacturing flaw gm acknowledged was a problem but i was told, " not on yours though, wrong vin". Thank you for placing my loved ones in danger gm, refusing to fix your own recall, charging me over$700 to worsen the issue and place my family in greater danger.
As i read through all the complaints i do not understand why there are not more recalls on this vehicle.i love the car itself but after only having the car for 15 months the motor completely failed with no warning.our terrain has the 3.0 engine but there is an extension of warranty on the 2.4 engine.however the complaints on the 2.4 motor mirrors what happened to us.we had fuel injectors replaced a few months ago and oil changed at that time.the night the engine died it had made some strange noises but no hesitation and no warning lights.not even a check engine light.my husband checked the oil and it was low.there is no way it could have been low.he added some because that is what we are conditioned to do but it never would register on the dipstick.we drove 1/2 mile and the without warning; no noises or warning lights the car died at a busy intersection.thankfully my husband was able to push me in the car to safety but the car never restarted.we had it towed to the dealer we purchased it from and they said the motor seized up but are unable to tell us why unless we pay for them to take the motor apart.they are unable to find any error codes.they are telling us we need a new motor costing $7400 to purchase and put in.the car is out of warranty.we only bought the vehicle 15 months ago so we haven't had it long; we bought it used.makes no sense but does sound like the stories on the 2.4 motors.when is someone going to take notice that there is a problem with these gmc motors whether it is the 2.4 or the 3.0 engines.does it take someone to get killed before gmc admits there is a problem??????
My car will stop while im driving and i didnt get the proper dignostics of why it was doing that, they just told me to switch my gas to premium. & then my check engine light came on . But now my engine power is in reduced and i dont unerdstand why either. I havent had this truck for a year and its been giving me problems since i got it.
The vehicle going through oil like made and stalling in the middle of intersections or pulling onto a road. This has caused other people to almost hit me or go off the road to avoid an accident. I will start out into an intersection get in the middle and it dies. Turning onto a different road this happens also in motion going at normal speeds for the road.
I was at a busy intersection with my 19 month old son at 5:00pm on friday, march 27, 2015 when my car just died on me. After having it towed to a non gmc service station, they informed me that i had no oil in my car.i was taken back by this because it had not even been 1500 miles since my last oil change and i had no warning at all, my oil light or check engine light never came on in my car before it died.i have been more than up to date on every oil change since i have owned the car in september of 2013.due to no oil in my car, there was extensive damage to the engine resulting in me having to replace the engine in my car. Gmc informed me that this is not a recall and it should be!!! this is completely dangerous and gmc will not reimburse me for the engine that i have to put in my car even though this was not caused by me.
Motor started knocking louder and louder at 85,000 miles. Brought vehicle to a gm dealer where they replaced; timing chain, balance chain, tensioner, and valves. Gm only claims responsibility for the timing chain, though that part breaking caused far more damage to the motor. Gm has knowingly put and kept out their bad 4-cylinder ecotech motors from 2010-2013. Their class action lawsuit stipulationsdisqualify most vehicles that areaffected. My vehicle is currently broken down due to the same issue, i can't rely on the motor to get me where i'm going without dying at a stop sign or running completelyout of oil 2,000 miles after having an oil change. While breaking on a highway my motor will rev up, as if it's trying to accelerate while i'm trying to slow down.
I was drivingand my vehicle totally shut down.i had stopped to make a right hand turn. As soon as my turn was complete; it shut down.and would not restart i had to have it towed home.previosly to this it would stall, and i would have to put it in nuetral to restart it.then next day i had it towed to be seviced thinking it was the fuel pump. Got the call from mechanic telling me the problem is the timing chain broke and has caused serious engine damage...... Piston and valves torn all up.....obviously a huge problem with this vehicle model. I have read so many complaints about this issue in regards to this model. My terrain only has a little over 100,000 miles on it. I have to pay $5,000. To have a rebuilt motor put in it...... Shame on gmc for puttingso many of us customers in danger of being seriously injured. And causing us to pay for this problem; that this vehicle obviously has. I'm sure the mechanic shops love seeing us towing our junk terrains come rolling in. They aremaking some serious money on rebuilding motors that should never be having these problems.... Come on with recalls please... I can't afford this extra expense.
My terrain has used so much oil since it was purchased and we keep the oil changed every time it's needed now the timing chain is messing up and is going to be expensive to fix i have read online where the 2011s have the same issue, the repairs are too expensive my fianc got laid off due to covid-19 i'm the only one working i need help and don't know where to turn to, the truck stoped going in the middle of me turning into a gas station i was almost rear ended.
I purchased the vehicle it ran great. Within a couple of weeks, it started stalling when i go to take off in the middle of intersections or pulling out onto a road. It will run fine i stop it idles ok and when i touch the gas pedal it will start out into the road and then just die. It goes though oil like mad.
The vehicle is consuming up to 2 qts of oil every 1000 miles. The low oil level light does not illuminate, even when the oil level falls below 2 qts low.
Engine is burning out oil and causes engine to stall in highways.it may lead to accidents and fatalities.engine is also losing power completely.
Vehicle caught on fire after pulling off the highway onto a busy city road.the cause was oil spilling onto the hot exhaust after catastrophic engine failure when the piston rods went through the side of the block.a bystander had a fire extinguisher and was able to put the fire out in the engine bay, after i was able to safely get out of the vehicle. The vehicle was a total loss according to our insurance company, but we have a claim on our record with insurance going up since gm would not cover the claim because the mileage was over 100,000 miles even though this oil consumption issue was present well before 100,000 miles.sometime prior to this the dealer performed a piston rebuild for excessive oil consumption.after the repair the vehicle made a knocking noise on start up.the dealer passed this off and we were told not to worry about it.we pressed the issue a couple of times and the answer was the same, don't worry about it, it will go away. This is just unacceptable and dangerous to the owners of this engine.
Timing chain broke while reversing out of driveway into road causing engine to stop.
Vehicle has been burning up to 3 quarts of oil every 1,500 miles. This has been an ongoing issue for years. In 2020 a gm dealer serviced/repaired the vehicle to correct the issue; the vehicle only had approximately 60,000 miles at the time. The issue returned around 20,000 miles after the repair. Neither an instrument panel light nor a obdii code appears when the oil is low. When the oil is low the vehicle stalls when making a turn and also jitters and jerks while idling. I am put in a dangerous situation when the vehicle stalls (especially on the freeway service roads).
Vehicle transmission overheats in less than 40 minutes on a 70 mph highway. Speed deteriorates and can no longer go faster than 55 mph. Vehicle must be put in stationary in order to cool transmission. Incident has repeated in twice in a month.
Several times over the last week my car is stalling. It happens if i am at a stoplight, don't get up to speed fast enough, etc. The m as malfunction indicator lamp keeps going on and off. There are several complaints of similar issues and this should be handled by gmc.
The original engine blew a piston rod and cracked my engine in the middle of the freeway , had to have vehicle towed to a shop and whole engine replaced with a new one. This could have caused a huge accident or even caught fire. I had no previous issue or light on the engine prior to this happening. Oil had been changer regularly , tune ups, and any additional required maintenance, the manufacturer has not wanted to take any responsibility or assist in compensating any of the cost . I have been fighting this for well over 2 years
My truck experienced it's first problem in august of 2011.i had only had my truck for six months.the truck was entering onto the expressway and as i was pressing the gas the truck begin to stall.the reduced engine light came on and the truck decelerates and cut off.we were blessed that we were able to get to right shoulder of the road.we waited about ten minutes, the truck finally started and the engine light remained on.i contacted the dealer and took the truck in as soon as i could get an appointment.was told the truck was fixed and since i have been in five times for the same problem.the fact that the truck decelerates while driving on the expressway is enough that i don't want to drive the truck.i have been using other peoples cars and trucks because i don't want to put mine on the expressway out of own.it is a death trap waiting to happen and anyone driving a terrain should be made aware of the problem.the service department did everything possible and had to contact manufacturer about the problem and they could not narrow down the problem.they have replaced so many parts at this point i have lost track of things that have been replaced.this truck is not safe and the problem is not been resolved.the car still idles and shakes and no one plans to find out why as long as the engine light is not on.no one wants to take responsibility for this issue and it is really disappointing that the manufacturer would rather not deal with this problem and wait for a fatality to occur before looking into.you would think they would learn from toyota and take customers lives seriously.would they put there families in this truck ?i just want them to take the truck back because i don't want to use my life as an example for a defective truck.
Hesitation and lag on acceleration after hard or quick brake application. Feels like engine momentarily stalling or trans mission not engaging for one or two seconds.. Happens when vehicle is in motion, happens in stop and go traffic, happens coming out of turns, also in straight line motion. Poses a safety risk such as when entering an intersection and not being able to accelerate through the intersection to avoid collision with other vehicles crossing that intersection.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the traction control system and reduced engine power warning lights illuminated. The contact experienced a sudden loss of engine power. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 44,000.updated 08/11/14*ljupdated 8/13/2014
Since i bought my truck i have been having multiple problems with the engine and transmission i've tried multiple times to contact the dealership to get my car looked at and they do not respond back to me i feel like they act as if i did no business with them on purchasing my car
Vehicle experienced catastrophic engine failure that was not covered by gmc under any warranty. Engine blew up and all the oil leaked out due to the hole that was formed in the.
Timing chain either broke or jumped track while driving and car shut off while vehicle was in motion. Had to have it towed home and will not start ever since. I hear alot of complaint with this type of motor with oil use and timing with results of destroying engine completely and not having money to fix after paying alot of money for this vehicle. Gm needs to take responsibility for their faulty 2.4l ecotec motor and issue a recall to those affected by this faulty engine. I was driving a busy street in my home town when the car just shut off while in motion. Lost all power to the vehicle and could have crashed or been hit or worse been seriously injured or fatally injured. Please take responsibility and fix the problems created by faulty equipment! i had purchased from used lot and broke down same month i bought it and has been sitting outside my house ever since over a year
Engine problem
Purchased this vehicle in november 2020 and 7 months later was coming home from a trip, there was a ticking noise got louder and faster and then a pop.took vehicle to a mechanic spun bearings and rods and crankcase was completely drythere were no leaks or evidence of oilthese vehicles are known to have excessive oil consumption. I believe that the blown engine was a direct result of oil consumption
While driving various speeds, the stabilitrak and loss of engine power indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.
It has a loud knocking sound which gets louder with the a c on.
'excessive oil consumption' gmc will not honor their recall. I received a letter in august of 2015 saying to bring my vehicle in if my car was effected as long as it was in the 7 years 6 months and less than 120k miles.in august 2016 i started to smell oil burning in my car and black oil leaking out of the engine. After my research this was the beginning stages of this recall. I called, gmc james rivard and mentioned this recall asking them to fix it.there was only at 98k miles and it had been less than 7 years. They later said they had to replace a cap that wore out, but charged me 129. I realized they had took advantage of me by charging me simply for cleaning up the oil and putting more in. Nothing on the reciept mentions a replacement cap. Through the years my husband and i started to noticed more issues, stabiltrak warnings, low acceleration, oil changes not lasting more then 2.5 to 3 months. We called in august 2018 and was told i could bring it in, but would have to pay the 125 if they decided it was not the recall. This was the issue previously! since we've paid off the car in september 2018, we have experienced the car stopping in while in drive when pressing the break, 'low engine power' warnings, along with the stabiltrak warnings, and frequently wants to stop when making hard left or right turns on streets.we took to a local mechanic last week and was informed the cars oil was completely (gone for the 3rd time, the oil life in my car was at 27%). With several others, they informed this could be due to piston rings being worn out. I immediately recalled the incident in 2016 and called the gmc recall center. They refused to make the dealer honor this recall, since it expired in september 2018... Coincidentally when i paid off my car. I wish they would have taken care of this issue when i asked! i have totally lost trust in the gmc brand.
Oil smells like gas. Head linear fell downvery poor gas mileageengine runs ruff has poor acceleration.
Burns to much oil and i can't keep up with the speed limit it's in and the shop got to put a new timing belt on
Airbag light came on at 125k miles. Known problem on this year/make/model is airbag sensor on passenger side. 90k miles timing chain replaced. 154k miles timing chain broke3 qrts of oil needed every 2k miles154k miles transmission leaking fluid100k miles catalytic converter needed replaced125k miles downstream air sensor needed replaced150k miles upstream air sensor needed replacedsolenoids need replaced every 50k miles
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving 45-50 mph, the check engine warning light and traction control warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the throttle body modular cable needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,158. Updated 04/04/16*lj
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving 45 mph, the contact noticed an odor of burning oil emitting from the vehicle. The contact pulled over and discovered smoke underneath the vehicle. The contact then observed oil pouring from underneath the vehicle. There was no police or fire report. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear main engine seal failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to a second independent mechanic where it was also diagnosed that the rear main engine seal failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle shut down and the reduced engine power indicator illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
It started last month when i noticed anything major issues it would happen while i was driving my car would bog down so i would have to press the gas to floor to get it moving, then it did it again this past tuesday on my way to work it bog down almost causing an accident, i got to work and parked the car then on my way home i stopped at a store and checked my oil level and the dip stick was bone dry so i put 2 quarts of oil in to get me home ran fine all the way home until i pulled in to drive way and my car completely shut off the next morning inoticed a got amount of oil under my car. Then i checked my oil again and the dip stick was bone dry again.
Excessive oil consumption.i purchased a 2011 terrain not knowing there was an issue with the excessive oil consumption. There is no warning light just started tapping in the engine. Noticed a knocking/rattling in engine while accelerating at slow speeds,on board computer stated remaining oil live was over 51%, however no oil registered on dipstick. Add oil and noise stopped. I only discovered because i started to hear a stranger noise when i was stopped with the car running.
The engine locked up while driving on the interstate rendering it inoperable and undrivable.there were no warning signs (ie. Leaks, noises, overheating, etc.). The vehicle now needs an entirely new or used engine and is unrepairable.
On 08/05/2020 i was sold this vehicle with a cracked manifold. Upon replacement of the manifold it was discovered that two manifold bolts were seared on the engine block side. After consulting my mechanic and another, i was advised that 1) to repair the engine has to be lifted as the space between the firewall and the engine is too small to make repairs without lifting the engine ( manufacture defect) . Further, it was advised to me that completely sealing the manifold could lead to a fire in the catalytic converter because ' these engines run hot'. As i expressed that this vehicles 'antifreeze' level is not stable as i have experienced with other vehicles. In other words this vehicle burns up antifreeze quicker than i've seen occur in other vehicles. After researching the topic it was discovered by consumer reports that these vehicles have major defective engines with repairs to manifold being notorious. And to have to have the engine lifted each time is unreasonably costly. And i no longer feel safe driving this vehicle if a defective engine runs hot and there's a risk of fire. This is exacerbated by the fact of the tiny space between the engine and firewall within the vehicle.
While ontrip home from jacksonville my car ran hot at 62,000 miles while driving.no previous warning of any kind. After a lot of towing expenses and uncessary replacements of other parts to try and fix it , i finally had to again have it towed to dealer. There i was told that it was a faulty chain that comes from engine that drives the water pump to work correctly. Well, gmc knew of the problem . As i found out ,they had put an extended warranty on that part . No recall, no notification to owners that this could become an issue. I was on interstate 10 and had the car stalled in traffic i would probably not be here today. They are fixing the chain but now all of a sudden they are finding all kind of other problems while in the motor. I am trying to at least get my towing reimbursed . This is another example of gmc trying to cut corners instead of issuing recall to correct the faulty part. I am furious.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While the vehicle was at a stop sign, it lost power. The vehicle was able to restart after one attempt. The vehicle was taken to the allen samuels chevrolet buick gmc dealer where it was diagnosed that the camshaft position actuator solenoid intake bank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,783. The vin was not available.
We purchased the gmc terrain with the 4cylinder engine for the gas mileage of 32 mpg, after getting only 26 mpg we called gmc and took the terrain in for service. Also filed complaint with gmc.was told their was nothing they could do. The engine makes noises and runs rough and stalls at times mostly in the mornings.after service now we get only 25 mpg.
3 problems with my 2011 gmc terrain awd, 2.4 liter1. Poor gas mileage - averaging 18.8 miles for a vehicle rated 20 city, 29 hwy. I drive 42 miles daily, 4 city, 38 hwy. Dealer checked, no codes and states "operating as per deigned intent"2. Jerky transmission shifts and severe hesitation on startup and slow speeds in eco mode. Dealer checked, no codes and states "operating as per deigned intent" 3. Engine "knock" on startup that last from 3 to 10 seconds, normally on "cold" startup. Dealer checked and could not duplicate complaint, checked cam phaser screens per service bulletin and states no debris is present. Dealer states no codes are present and nothing they can do.oil and oil filter were changed at my request.engine knock and poor gas mileage still exist, transmission issue seems to have changed to normal and slightly hard shifting now after dealer visit.
Soon after buying my 2011 gmc terrain, 4 cyl, a rattle developed in engine on start up.after months of returning to dealer, they said a tech bulletin now existed and fixed problem.problem was solved,a month or so later, problem returned. I returned to dealer and they said nothing they could do. At the same time i was complaining about gas mileage, 20 mpg on highway, 17 city.i called gm customer satisfaction detroit, and had many discussions with them.finally told me don't bother us any more about two problems, and to this point no resolution to either problem.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the engine warning lamp illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized as well. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the cam actuator was defective and needed to be replaced. The remedy failed to repair the problem. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 12,000.
While the car is idling, and moving at crawling speeds it stalled out 3 times, both in drive, and reverse.
I was driving my new 2011 terrain i just brought in may 2011, when it started to idle roughly, the engine light came on and it cut off while at a stop light. I restarted the car and it begins to stall out and hesitate. It also started to make a rattling/ knocking sound when starting the car. It sounds like a diesel truck. I took it right to the dealer to find that there was a recall coming out 8/12 mileage 5274. I then called general motors to report this problem which shouldn't have happened to brand new car. I didn't drive the car cause i was afraid of what might happen. I took it back to the service department who reset it on 8/15, which did not fix the problem. They fixed the recall parts, didn't fix the problem, took it back on 8/24 mileage 5675, 9/2 mileage 6353 for the same problems. I had to have it towed on 9/14 mileage 7341 for the same issues that were never fixed. They continued to say the system is not reading any code and there is nothing they can do, they cant duplicate the problems,i had onstar run diagnostics and gave them the codes. To this day the problems have not been fixed and continue to exist. Gm still does not want to own up to the fact that they have mad a bad product, and don't realize that this is a safety problem that can cause a serious accident with this car hesitating and stalling out while your driving it. The rattling and knocking noise when starting the car who knows what that is? when you call gm to get then to fix this problem and if they cant fix the car, replace the car, or just buy it back, they try to offer you an inconvenience fee instead of owning up to the problem, which is their way of shutting you up. This is beyond the lemon law. Gm needs to take this serious and stop brushing this problem under the carpet. Report them to bbb and the attorneys generals office in your state they should not be allowed to get away with this.
This vehicle boggs down when giving it gas and will often cut off after stopping for no reason.there is a noise when you start the vehicle (like a clicking noise).the vehicle do not get the 32 mpg as what is stated, i get about 20 mpg highway.the gas needle does not work properly.i will fill up and still show 1/4 short.the leather seats are buckling and dealer says its normal but know others with leather seats & not happening to them.recently took in for "service engine" light and malfunction light.this is new car & none of these issues should be happening this soon.i feel like it's a "lemon" and dealer is no help and these problems will compound as car gets older and warranty is over i will be out of luck.unhappy customer.
Actually, this is my second terrain, because they bought the 1st one back from me and gave me a brand new for the same reasons that i'm having with this one. On start up, the car makes an unusual grrrrrrrrr noise for about 3 seconds. It doesn't make this noise all the time, but the majority of the time it does. I have heard several excuses from the dealer. "we can't duplicate what you are hearing, that's normal, it suppose to make that noise". It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that noise is not normal. And even if it was normal, it would happen every single time i started the car, but it doesn't. It's embarrassing to start my car up around people, cause i don't want them to see me driving this beautiful brand new car with a dumb noise when i start it up. I can't believe gmc would approve to even sell a car that makes that type of noise. Is there something we can do about this? help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had two occurrences now - the first happened a couple of times between 15k and 20k miles, with the car stalling when setting a traffic light.i also got a check engine light.i took it to the local gmc dealer who said the check engine light went out but they didn't know why and were not able to find the source.just this past weekend at around 25k miles, my fiance and i were setting at a traffic light and the car stalled out.after the cars behind me were laying on their horns, i got the car started again and was able to continue traveling.i scheduled an appointment again at the local dealer, but after reading similar issues from other owners, i am starting to doubt they will correct it.
There was a recall for my vehicle to replace the high pressure fuel pump. This was replaced and 1 week later the check engine light came on. Taken to dealer. Diagnosed as catalytic converter. The catalytic converter is under a public service extended warranty (10 years, 120,000 miles whichever comes first). Of course i now have 138,000 mile on the vehicle.gmc will not cover repair costs. This should be a recall not an extended service warranty. The vehicle was moving when the light came on. I first called about replacing the catalytic converter when notified by mail of the extended service warranty, and because the mileage was over 120,000 miles and the light was not on, i was told there was no reason to have it repaired.depending on what is causing the catalytic converter diagnostic to indicate it has a problem, this could be a serious safety problem. Clearly, gmc issued an extended service warranty to avoid repairing affected vehicles. The 120,000 mile limitation excludes vehicles randomly. This issue could occur at anytime.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact turned the ignition to start the vehicle and heard a loud bang coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated there was also a vibration felt from inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer yet the technician stated that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 2,500.updated 5/24/11 the consumer stated the vehicle has been reparied. 06/06/11
I own a gmc 2011 terrain. It has 3600 miles on it. Ever since i bought it there is a hesitation and it doesn't seem to know when to shift gears!.it also jerks all over the place i brought it to the dealer because one day it almost completely stalled on me. The dealer said that there were no codes that came up on it and everything is fine. The kicker is that the serviceman who took care of me took it home and said that it is doing what i said and that they can't do anything about it until it shows a code on the computer. I called gm and they told me the same thing. Meanwhile i get in my car today, start it up and it makes this horrible like grinding noise for like 3 seconds and then went away. Very irritated with the whole situation. If i could return this car i would . I cant stand it . I pay good money on a monthly basis and this is what i get. So until gggggggmc gets with the program and admits that there is a major issue with this vehicles engine i think were all in for alot of headaches. And from what i've read there's a few people who are having the same problem.oh wait don't let me forget the lovely vibration my car makes between 2 and 3000 rpms! good times!
I have a 2.5 month old 2011 gmc terrain.at 4984 miles it is in the shop for stalling, for a horrible rattle upon start up, and for it jerking between first and second gear.when i took it in this morning it had stalled six times within the past 2 days.it stalls after start-up in forward and reverse and it stalled three times while in idle in a fast food drive-thru.there is also the rattling which happens on cold and warm starts, whether the a/c or eco mode are on.it sounds like metal rattling and like it is harming the engine.the least of my worries, is the fact that between 25-35 miles an hour the transmission shifts very hard and kicks myself and passengers forward.apparently there is a tech bulletin that has been out for the rattle for several months. Why not fix them before they sell them?also, there is a recall #11195 for "rough idle, poor driveability" that doesn't show up on the nhtsa site or anywhere else but the gmc dealer's computer.additionally, despite the claims, i have never gotten better than 21 mpg while driving this car including an all highway trip from michigan to indiana. I think it is false advertising and the fuel economy in eco or not is not what they claim when the y sold the vehicle to me.
The issue is only happening on 2011 i-4 2.4l engines. Many people with this engine (terrain and equinoxs for a couple) have the same issue.the vehicle makes a rattling noise when starting up..its intermittent. Also i have had (as others have) had the car stall and give an check engine light with code p0011. The car makes the rattling when car is cold or hot..i have it happen at least once a day. Gm had a tech. Bulletin out on it in feb.2011. The fix did not take care of it. In june 2011 gm put out another tb saying 'they are aware of the issue, have no fix yet'.. Again this is happening on alot of these vehicles..as of right now, gm is not helping me with this..just that they are aware and will let me know..in the meantime, im driving a new car that makes a horrible noise, i don't know what internal damage its causing, and imafraid its going to stall again, in traffic and i will have an accident...
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact mentioned that the catalytic converters were eroded and had to be replaced in this vehicle and another terrain vehicle she owned. The manufacturer acknowledged the failure, but would not cover the repair costs. Hiley buick gmc of fort worth (3535 w loop 820 s, fort worth, tx 76116, (682) 503-2821) was contacted and also would not cover the repair costs. The manufacturer also stated that the contact would not be reimbursed if the vehicle were repaired by a non-gmc dealer. The repairs were completed by an independent mechanic. The failure mileage was 89,585.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the engine compartment. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact also stated that there was a fuel odor coming through the vents from the exhaust manifold. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the exhaust manifold detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,707.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the driver was attempting to change a flat tire when the weight of the vehicle crushed the jack that was holding the vehicle up. The contact expressed concern because the jack that came with the vehicle was not adequate for the vehicle's weight. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain.while attempting to refuel the vehicle, gasoline fuel spilled out of the fuel tank.the dealer made six attempts to duplicate the failure by straightening the fuel hose, replacing the fuel tank and the filter however, none of the repairs corrected the failure.the dealer has had offered any further assistance since they informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as designed.the manufacturer had not been notified of the failure.the current mileage was 7,200 and the failure mileage was 2,400.
Vehicle is not delivering the epa fuel economy performance rated.the gmc terrian fwd 4cyl is rated 22 city, 32 hwy, and 26 overall.i drive 30% of my miles in the city and 70% hwy.my vehicle has 5000 miles and i am experiencing 17 city, 22 hwy, and 20 overall.all well below the expected range.i am a very conservative driver, no jack rabbitt starts at stop lights, use cruise control.i have complained twice to gmc and was told it takes apx 5000 miles to "break in" the vehicle.i now have 5000 miles and am now being told to use high octane fuel. Fuel performance is so poor i suspect a gas leak or some faulty component that may be potentially dangerous due to the excess consumption of fuel well beyond the controlled epa estimates.
I purchased this terrain as the 99 gmc pickup that i purchased from sheehan had 3 total brake failures and a power steering cooler fail all due to corrosion.i was afraid to drive the 99 after the 3rd total brake failure.this is when i purchased this vehicle in november 2011.since then due to corrosion they replaced all the wheels on the vehicle and the other day i started smelling gasoline.i took the vehicle to sheehan.they found a fuel line under the vehicle leaking as it had rusted through.i asked the service person what they did to correct this problem.i was told they replace the fuel line with the same type that had just rusted through.i asked them why they did not use stainless steel.i was told they do not do that.i now do not feel comfortable of driving this vehicle.the vehicle has not even been paid off yet and only has approximately 7000 miles on it.i have begun shopping for a non-general motors vehicle as i do not feel save driving this one.
While traveling on interstate 376 west out of down town pittsburgh, pa during rush hour the service stabilitrack warning message appeared and then the reduced engine power warning came on. At the time we were traveling about 45 mph and the engine would not go any faster than 20 mph when we got the messages, we had to try to get over to the side of the road....we turned off the vehicle and waited 10 minutes and it reset itself... It happened 3 more times on monday 12/22 and the last time i could barely turn the steering wheel..it turned out to be the throttle body needing replaced.
My 2011 gmc terrain has a 2.4l 4 cylinder front wheel drive. It is rated at 32 mpg highway. Since day 1 i have not even gotten close to this. I drive 100 miles a day and maybe 5 miles of it is considered city driving. I am getting20 to 22 mpg. I contacted gmc and they had me take it in to be checked out. The dealership hooked it up to there computer and said that everything is the way it should be. They then told gmc that it is winter now and fuel mileage will drop due to cold weather. I agree with that but not 10 miles to the gallon. Maybe 2 or 3 at the most. I cant get them to do anything about it, i am tired of having to pay out extra money for gas when this vehicle is not performing to its expectations.

The gas fill tube tends to allow the gas nozzle to pop out when filling.have never seen this on other vehicles.i have to hold the nozzle to make sure it does not pop out.
I bought my 2011 awd 4 cyl. Terrain in july, 2011. I traded my gmc acadia in on this vehicle. I down sized to get better gas mileage. It stated that it should get 20 city & 30 hwy. I have never came close. I took it to the dealer and they said it is running fine. Mpg at 22. I don't know what we all have to do to get gm to do something about this but something needs to be done.they have pretty much lied to all of us and anyone that is thinking about buying one. We need to get the word out about this vehicle. Don't buy it for the gas mileage because it don't get what it states!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think gm should do something about this or reimburse us for the difference that we would get with the correct gas mileage. Maybe this will get a recall on these vehicles.
Was sold a vehicle with multiple mechanical problems with it within the first week of purchase as well as an open recall on this vehicle.
Gas station pump will not stay on when refueling
Significant exhaust fumes accumulating inside passenger cabin during idle/stop.volume of gases smell less while in motion but still evident.significant reduction in engine power noticable; as well as erratic noise from the engine and extemely hesitant acceleration response.
Purchased my certified 2011 gmc terrain 7/12/2016. After driving a few days noticed car was stalling while accelerating or in stop and go traffic. (1st service) took it in 7/28/2016 to be serviced, was told it was the catalytic converter-vehicle was better, but still hesitates on take off(2nd service) took it in 11/10/2016 received the recall notice about the fuel pump. Finally it seems to be driving better'for a couple of weeks(3rd service) took in 1/16/2017 to be serviced- car completely shut off on busy highway several times during morning rush hour (stop and go traffic), this time engine light came on. Was told something to do with electrical programming communicating with the fuel pump?!as of today car is starting to stall and hesitate again. My certified warranty is up in 3/2017, my fear is next few incidents will not be covered. Keep in mind i have not had this vehicle a year yet. I have a certified lemon. I deserve a refund/upgrade.
The vehicle just stops while driving, this is very dangerous and can cause a major accident.dealer said the fuel pump was leaking!..for an almost brand new car this was unacceptable!..now it just happened again..the vehicle stops/the engine shuts down while driving!..im taking the vehicle again to the dealership to see what they say...
Exhaust fumes are entering the vehicle through the air vents, gets worse when idling. Seatbelt does not buckle.
The vehicle is consuming up to 2 qts of oil every 1000 miles. The low oil level light does not illuminate, even when the oil level falls below 2 qts low.
Fuel pump problems. Misfiring and shutting off.
Going to visit son, daughter in law and grandaughter in virginia from michigan. Got reduced power message with stability control light. First time was without warning on the curvy hilly pennsylvania turnpike in traffic at appx 70 mph.. Lost power on hill had no acceleration, vehicle decelerated in front of traffic. Put on hazards and worked our way over to shoulder across 2 lanes of traffic. Thank god this didn't cause a pileup of holiday travelers. Stopped vehicle, engine was misfiring, there was no throttle response. Shut off engine and restarted, power was back but check engine light is on. Continued trip, 2nd incident was about 1 hour later also without warning. Had about 5 incidents this trip.
I purchased the vehicle it ran great. Within a couple of weeks, it started stalling when i go to take off in the middle of intersections or pulling out onto a road. It will run fine i stop it idles ok and when i touch the gas pedal it will start out into the road and then just die. It goes though oil like mad.
While driving the vehicle stalled from 35-40 mph to 5 mph. A message came on the screen " engine power reduced". Had i been on highway that would be ended in accident. Contacted gm and everyone i have been talking to them seems to be reading a script to me.
When inserting the gasoline pump's nozzle to refuel the vehicle, the nozzle does not lock into place during the pumping of gasoline.vehicle owner has to manually hold the fuel dispenser's handle to refuel their vehicle during the entire 16 gallon operation.there appears to be a part missing that would control the safe automatic refueling of this vehicle, but that part is not on my vehicle.
When refueling vehicle at a gas station, at a full stop, with the engine turned off, the gasoline pump will not stay on while inserted into the fuel tank of my 2011 gmc terrain, no matter which fuel vendor i buy a fill up from.i have had this car for several years, and it has never worked properly.i decided to reach out to see if this is a normal issue for this vehicle.if it is not, then could this be a recall event? thanks for your helpfulness.
The engine will randomly stall and shut off. There are several complaints of you google the problem. This is a serious safety hazard.
I purchased the vehicle it ran great. Within a couple of weeks, it started stalling when i go to take off in the middle of intersections or pulling out onto a road. It will run fine i stop it idles ok and when i touch the gas pedal it will start out into the road and then just die.
While driving down a busy two lane road i pulled out into an intersection in an attempt to make a left hand turn when the car stalled in the middle of traffic. I turned the car off and turned it back on again and it worked. However, later that day it stalled again while it was sitting at an intersection. I brought it to the dealership for repair and they said it was not covered under warranty even though i still had one. They said there was a fuel leak at the fuel composition sensor. They replaced the sensor. Gm extended special coverage # 17097 in may 1, 2017 for 2011-2013 chevy equinox and gmc terrains that are equipped with flex fuel due to a fuel leak at the fuel composition sensor but they did not include my 2011 model terrain that is not equipped with flex fuel but it should have been. This issue was out of my control as it was a manufacturing defect in the fact that they placed the composition sensor below the frame exposing it to damage from road debris.
I bought a used 2011 gmc terrain with a clean carfax and 35000 miles on it.i have had nothing but problems.the car burn at least a quart of oil every 2 weeks.the constantly just cuts off when driving.gmc needs to do sometime about this before peolpe are killed.
Upon entering garage, smelled odor of gas by car...looked underneath,,small puddle of fuel,,closer examination found pinhole in rust patch on fuel line..other rust areas noticed, but this was only leak.corrosion is to be expected.but not to the point of failure after only 4 and one half years..car was bought new and well maintained ,also always garage kept.being out of warranty (of course!), i had to negoitiate with the dealer for a decent cost of the repair..i believe inferior quality is to blame and believe this can and will happen to others, hopefully without serious consequences...
The contact stated the locks on all four doors locked and unlocked independently. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the failure could not be replicated and the contact was advisedto bring the vehicle back when the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 25,000.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the door locks were too low in the door panel to reach and pull up if the automatic motor failed. The contact stated that she notified the manufacturer of the problem and they advised her to call nhtsa to see if there were any other complaints similar to hers. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had not experienced a failure.
I purchased my car brand new in april of 2011. I didn't even have it a year and i had to take it in 3 different times for stalling. The engine light never came on therefore they couldn't pull a code to know what exactly was wrong but because it was under warranty, they just started replacing parts. The very first time it stalled they told me to watch what kind of gas i was putting it. They told me to try only going to mobil, bp or shell. I shook my head the whole time they were saying this but to rule it out for them, that's what i did. Obviously that wasn't the problem. Then, upon a cold start, the engine was very loud and made a rattling noise. Again, no engine light. The whole time i've had the vehicle it hesitates when pulling into traffic sometimes. Sometimes the kick back it gives off is so big that it actually jerks your body forward. I've had the car for 6 years and have over 10 receipts from dealerships for taking it in over the yrs.they have "replaced/fixed" cam auctor solonoids, actuator, tensioner, timing chain, catalytic converter, gasket, manifold and piston..to name a few.the other day i noticed a slight grinding noise when turning right.i went straight home and was going to have my friend listen to it so we could figure out where it was possibly coming from.within 2 hrs just sitting in the driveway the grinding became 20x worse and extremely loud! i couldn't even back it out of my driveway without it sounding like my whole entire engine was going to fall out.we were thinking it was the transfer case/transmission.i had to have it towed to the dealership where they called me a few hrs later only to confirm it was the transfer case and it will be $2,400 bc it's no long under warranty.i have numerous receipts showing ongoing issues with this and other things.i'm furious and disappointed.i bought a new car to feel safer in and i haven't felt that once!
Since i first purchased the car, it has given nothing but issues, the ac went out while still under warranty, it was fixed so i thought, it broke down again and because i was unable to describe word by word, i was told it would not be covered since it was not the same issue and i no longer had the warranty. A mechanic told me that gmc installed really cheap ac compresors/unit and he has had a lot of customers with same issue. It is a shame that we pay so much money in the purchase of a vehicle and in return we get a piece of junk. I need help.
Oil smells like gas. Head linear fell downvery poor gas mileageengine runs ruff has poor acceleration.
While driving on the highway at 45 mph, the vehicle remained running but abruptly stopped. I could have been hit from behind with serious consequences. It left me stranded on a 2 lane road unable to move out of the lane. This is a serious problem with this vehicle. Gm needs to address this problem.
Vehicle transmission will suddenly drop into 2nd gear while driving and refuse to shift further. This caused vehicle to suddenly drop speed on highway from 65mph to 40 mph with no prior warning. Vehicle will also suddenly drop out of manual transmission mode, also without warning or indication.
My car has cut off on me approximately 12 times in the last week. Almost cause a wreck one time because it happened while i was pulling out onto the highway.luckily i was able to coast out of traffic in time.usually happens when when i'm at a low speed or sitting idle.
Vehicle continues to be checked with dealer for awfully jerky, hard hitting transmission when changing mostly in low range gears. Service department continues to say transmission operating normal?vehicle has over 17,000 miles on it and continues to be plagued with jerky transmission periodically. Hard to believe there has not been a service bulletin on this problem?

At approximately 80,000 miles, the transmission weight plates disintegrated, fouling the controlling modules.the transmission needs to be entirely rebuilt or replaced.first scheduled transmission service for this vehicle is at 100,000 miles.this occurred during normal highway driving, stranding us.
Vehicle has been in dealers service on several occasions complaining about the jerky transmission in first/second change. When changing in the low range transmission hits real hard and jerky particularly if pulling away from a stop at a moderate speed. Service department told me it would smooth out after break in period.dealer claims transmission is operating normal and due to it being a 6 speed causes this. Hard to believe gm cannot fix to have a smooth operation. Vehicle now has over 10,000 miles and still has the same jerky transmission at low speed.
Vehicle(automatic) will stall while driving, has happened multiple times on freeway. Mechanics are not discovering any issues, vehicle has regular maintenance. There has been times where the vehicle would not go into reverse and would jerk then shut off, it seems there is an issue with gears/transmission. Have researched online and there are many similar complaints of stalling vehicles while driving.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 35 mph, the transmission began to hesitate and jerked. In addition, the transmission slipped gears intermittently with a rapid loss of engine oil. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to locate the failure. The transmission fluid was flushed however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
Smh.
Was exiting off a highway ramp when my car wouldn't get any power to go. Come to find out the tcm went out in the transmission
Started car and shifted from park to reverse.car did not change into gear.car was in neutral. Shifted to drive and still no gear change.shifted to manual drive mode and still did not shift.turned car off and back on, then gear changes were made. Second time this occurred in about three months.
The car did not change gears at the ?proper? time, and then when the brakes were applied or acceleration was ended the car would hard shift to the next gear. It is almost as if the gear was locked into place by the acceleration. Because of this shifting issue, it feels like the car is bucking, which can be a potential safety issue for myself and my family. Issue mainly occurs on slope like conditions in the 25 to 35 mile per hour range, our car is up to date on all recalls per dealer, they were unable to replicate the issue, but replaced the shift stick, this also prevents the car from shifting gears by accident i.e. Without the button pushed, this repair has corrected the manual shifting issue. The automatic shift issue still remainsthe car has less then 50k miles.the issue was 1st discovered in the mountains of pa on the 80 hwy the stickiness was between all gears but mostly 1st/2nd and 3nd/4nd since we are back in the city we can only deal with 1/2 gear on the hwy and this problem persists. When doing basic research on this issue i noticed that others experienced a similar problem in 2011 shortly after the cars release, but a flash to the emc "fixed" the problem. Our dealer says that all recalls and software are up to date. Last occurrence 7/26/16 we dont drive the car much since then.
While the car is idling, and moving at crawling speeds it stalled out 3 times, both in drive, and reverse.
I was having problems with my brakes making noise so i took the car in for service, i was told the brakes was fine; however the noise continued and a month late i took it back and was told i needed pads, rotors and that the left cv axle was rusted and needed to be replaced. 2 days later i was told my car was ready and that the cv axle was replaced. I left and within 30 minutes as i was about to get on the highway, i heard a pop and lose all control of the terrain, my the only way i could stop the vehicle was by placing the emergency brakes, the car was making a loud noise. I put it in parked and it continue to roll until i turned it off. Even the tow truck driver stated that the car was rolling in the park position. I'm thankful that i and my kids were not killed because i literally had no control of the car. Now that the car has been towed back to the dealership, i was told the new cv axle was malfunctioned. Honestly, i'm still paying for this vehicle and do not feel safe driving it.
Airbag light came on at 125k miles. Known problem on this year/make/model is airbag sensor on passenger side. 90k miles timing chain replaced. 154k miles timing chain broke3 qrts of oil needed every 2k miles154k miles transmission leaking fluid100k miles catalytic converter needed replaced125k miles downstream air sensor needed replaced150k miles upstream air sensor needed replacedsolenoids need replaced every 50k miles
Transmission will not engage in any gear, has gone completely nonfunctional. I have researched the problem and notice that every complaint is the same regrading the transmission. Same mileage as others and this problem occurs, there needs to be a recall on this matter.
Only 87000 miles and the transmission went out, car started to surge while driving, after parking it wouldn't go into reverse. Then when trying to see if it would still drive forward, wouldn't go faster than 20 miles an hour, just started revving wouldn't engage in a gear.
My 2011 gmc terrain while driving 45 miles down road the lose of power light came on and the car immediately slowed down causing me to almost have a accident.the car would run but shake real badly.i stopped the car and turned off for 5min and restarted and was able to make it home but had to do this at least 3 times getting there.i don't know what is going on, but i do know i almost lost my life in the process.my car seems to burn aiot of oil too here lately, like its drinking water.
Transmission not functional, will not engage into any gear, and went out while driving. I've seen multiple complaints online with sane problem. Recall needs to be done.
Burns to much oil and i can't keep up with the speed limit it's in and the shop got to put a new timing belt on
Exhaust manifold cracked between cylinders 2 and 3 upstream oxygen sensor from hot exhaust gases from the leak passing on the wires and heater element within the oxygen sensor and exhaust manifold top heat shield. Carbon monoxide leaking through floor board
We bought this and had it three months when the transmission went out at less that 80000 miles. It lost power and also had lost oil after just having the oil changed. Supposedly it was "dry" and also no transmission fluid. It had just been serviced and have the proof of servicing.it took us three months to find a transmission to put in it, since we were still making payments on it!! had to get a rental car for three months. It was a nightmare. We both believe that gm knows this vehicle make and model transmissions are faulty. We were very disappointed. We had owned a jimmy with 300000 miles on it. Very disappointed in this vehicle.
We have a 2011 gmc terrain that is 91,000miles.this morning on the way to work, underneath the car just making a huge clicking sound.when the car slow and stop, it makes huge wheezing sound and unable to shift when trying to accelerate.we brought to the gmc dealer right away (thank god, we were close to the dealer), and they said we need to replace transmission and it costs $5,000!!!!they say the fuel line has all kind of metals particle in it, so there is no way of knowing what exactly the problem is, it's better off to replace transmission.this car is under 91,000 miles and we have to replace transmission!!! i then do more research online just to find out there are many similar complaints about gmc terrain's transmission problems.it all went down without any warnings and the car can't even make to 100k miles.i believe gm aware of this but choose to not fixing this, leaving the consumer to deal with the problem, since it happens shortly after the warranty expired.transmission is most important part in a car, if my car can't even make to 100k without replacing transmission, what about other parts in the car?? how am i going to put my trust in gm car in the future?we love american car and support american products, but if gm couldn't stand up and fix the problem, then we'll be forcing to get different car other than gm.
Engine problem
While i was driving 35-45 miles per hour the truck turned off on its own so i parked truck on the side of the road. I waited a few minutes and tried to turn vehicle on again, it turned on again and i continued driving 20-30 per hour. Then after being stopped at a red light when it turned green i stepped on the gas and there was a loud sound plus we felt like it hadjumped.
Rear main seal blew.i was told that my rear main seal had blown b/c moisture can get in and freeze and since it was so cold the pressure caused the seal to blow.i started the car ahead of time b/c it was in the single digits. When i went outside to leave i noticed some smoke coming from the engine area.i immediately drove to the dealership.as i was driving i noticed some hesitation upon acceleration. Thankfully i did not have to drive the highway to get to the dealership. As soon as i got it to the service department they told me that there was oil leaking under my car to the point that they had to add 3.5 quarts of oil before they could move it to a service bay. After a short examination of the car i was told that the rear main seal had blown.i also found out that 10 other cars had the same issue at the same dealership that same day and 4 the next day.i checked for recalls and found gm service bulletin 14882 but was told that b/c my car vin number was not the on their list and was manufactured at a different plant that mine would not fall under the recall.it should not matter where the car was manufactured it is obviously a defective part or design.if it a defective part or design it should be fixed on all cars and not just some as i was informed the same parts were used at the different plants.i was fortunate that this did not cause a major accident when the car hesitated to accelerate.
Odb code p0014/p0017 is a gmc recall and i would very much like to bring it and let you guys fix it because it is becoming a problem!
Since i bought my truck i have been having multiple problems with the engine and transmission i've tried multiple times to contact the dealership to get my car looked at and they do not respond back to me i feel like they act as if i did no business with them on purchasing my car
Stalls when slowing down or letting off acceleration... Loses all power steering, abs braking. Difficult and dangerous as it happens at any speed. Highway, city street, turning, etc.
I own a 2011 gmc terrain. Put the vehicle in reverse and backed out of the driveway, then i put the vehicle in drive and it wouldn't go forward.therefore, i put in reverse and backed back into the driveway i took it to the dealership and was told that the torque converter went bad on the transmission.
I was driving back home from the store friday night and my wheels start squeaking and increasingly became hard to then the wheel whenever i turned. When i got home tried to park the wheels locked up and i couldn't turn the wheels anymore. Diver the car again monday it was fine until i was my way home again the wheels locked up, car wouldn't accelerate part 2nd gear, then i wasn't able to reverse and my engineer light came on. I just bought the car 5 months ago from a dealership. No i don't have a warranty and there is 86927 miles on it. No accidents whatsoever. I recently found out that this vehicle is known to have transmission failure.
Almost a month after my oil change my engine started making noise and cutting off. When i took it to get checked, they said that my oil was gone and my engine is failing. Now my car is just sitting at the dealership, because the price is gonna be to high. Is their a recall for my 2011 g.m.c terrain
Engine randomly stalls while driving and refuses to start back up. No codes are being presented when it does stall.
The contact owns 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while ascending an incline or turning at 25 to 40 mph, the vehicle downshifted and lost power. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure where it was found that the transmission's third gear had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,800 and the current mileage was 26,902.
Vehicle was financial 18 months ago, on thursday, july 26 approximately 11p.m. I heard racing of the motor and when i approached the traffic light at a main highway, the car stopped moving just racing of the motor when pressing the gas petal in gearthen l moved the gear in rear with no movement then moved the gear back to drive with no movement. The car diagnosis codes are po700 and po796 i am very disappointed after only having the terrain 1.5 years with an ongoing payment. This was my dream car.
While driving 50 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning. Upon starting the vehicle, the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. Updated 09/06/17*lj
The vehicle is consuming up to 2 qts of oil every 1000 miles. The low oil level light does not illuminate, even when the oil level falls below 2 qts low.
The gmc jerks forward and it almost hit person in front. Then when it shift from 2nd to 1st it jerks down into a stall. Someone could rear end me.because of the suddenness of the stop.
I purchased the vehicle it ran great. Within a couple of weeks, it started stalling when i go to take off in the middle of intersections or pulling out onto a road. It will run fine i stop it idles ok and when i touch the gas pedal it will start out into the road and then just die. It goes though oil like mad.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the vehicle would jerk violently and sputter when accelerating. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer four times and was told that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and it was performing as designed. The contact was concerned because the vehicle had also stalled on a few occasions without warning. In addition, the vehicle would jerk when driving 16-18 mph. The failure mileage was 6,000 and the current mileage was 9,000.

It has a loud knocking sound which gets louder with the a c on.
Timing chain broke while reversing out of driveway into road causing engine to stop.
The transmission shifting is erratic and creates a problem when in heavy down town traffic where there is stop and go traffic. Car will hesitate before it goes into proper gear.this is the 4 cylinder model i am driving.very had shift from 1st to 2nd gear at all times.i do not allow any of my family to drive this car because it has become a safety issue in my opinion.
The transmission shifts hard and jerks at times, dealer states it shifted fine when they drove it.it happens mostly in slow rush hour traffic.i will see if it contiuues and drive it with the dealer on the next visit.is has only 8000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 15 mph and shifting from first to second gear the vehicle jerked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice and the technician performed updates to the electrical system. The vehicle continued to lunge after the updates. The approximate failure mileage was 800.
Transmission slipping/jerking on my gmc terrain suv-sle model. I have taken it to the dealer 2times for the same problem. They say there's nothing wrong, but it's still jerking, it's happen when the gear shifting (it's an automatic) the change over is not smooth. The mechanic says it's doesn't happen when they drive it of course, but this does negate the fact that it is happening. Please have someone check into this problem. Because i'm sure it's happening to other terrain owners.
I was pulling into a parking spot on monday night and just brushed the curb with the front passenger tire. After i came to a stop, the side airbags deployed. The service stabilitrak light comes on and off as well as all other dash lights flickering as the radio turned off and the power steering goes out.

The contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v623000 (seatbelts). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,500.
Belt side buckle plastic housing fractures causing spring mechanism to fall out.mechanism now binds up allowing excess slack in seat belt while driving.event occured during routine buckling of seat belt.
The belt needed to fasten in my grandsons carseat in the middle of the back seat did not hold while making a sharp left or right turn. The seat slid over side ways. There is no upper stablizing device to keep the seat from tilting to the right or left. I live in ladylake and sometimes people pull out in front of you and while this happened to me and i had to vear to the right my grandson slid sideways carseat and all, scared my grandbaby.
Exhaust fumes are entering the vehicle through the air vents, gets worse when idling. Seatbelt does not buckle.

Shoulder bolt that controls height adjustment on power driver's seat. I have asked on two different occasions and always no parts available. Do not allow wife to drive vehicle as there is significant difference in our heights.
On 11-21-10 my five year old son bumped his head on a hard surface that was not safely designed or padded properly.this happens when the brakes are applied strongly. Nothing was done by gm to correct this issue.
Got into car one day and the drivers side seat had dropped to it's lowest position.saw that a bolt that aids the seat riser mechanism had fallen out.very dangerous if happened while driving.i was able to manually screw it back in.

I was in traffic on an icy day and had to brake quickly to avoid striking the car ahead of me.since that day, the abs light and the skidding vehicle light remains on all the time.when starting the vehicle the dashboard message shows service stabilitrak.i don't know if the abs system is working properly.i had it to the dealership in town and they told me they may need to keep it several days and that i would have to pay for them to find the problem because allegedly they had no idea what the problem was.that could run into thousands of dollars.i took it to an auto parts store and another garage and they hooked up the code reader at both places and it didn't show any code.i checked on the internet if other people were having similar issues and there are quite a few that showed up.some stated how they had spent several thousand dollars to have it fixed and when they got it back it did the same thing.i have contacted gm and although they have "assured" me it would be taken care of, i haven't heard any further from them.some people on the internet have said how they were charged large amounts of money to replace the module only to have the problem return.i would like the problem fixed but more importantly i would like to know that the abs is working properly if needed.
The contact owns 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle there was a knocking and clicking sound coming from the engine.
I purchased the vehicle (car) in feb. 2011. Attempted to start the car the other day and the yellow "engine" displayed in the speedo area. Waited one day tried again and the car started but i received a message in the red area of the dash indicating the power steering need service. Thinking i could add fluid i checked the owners manual and learned the car had electric power steering. Car started yesterday 11 oct., drove the car to walmart and returned home. No problems. Attempted to start this am 12 oct. Same thing happened as before. Called the local gmc deealer in fort walton beach, and was told the this power steering is not coverend by the warranty since i have had it for over the 3 year period even thoungh i only have 37,800 miles. I will attempt to start the car agin in a little while. If it will not start i will call aaa to tow the car to a local garage i have used before and trust. I am pretty sure the electric power steering is the culprit.
A rubbing sound and vibration as you turn the steering wheel.
We are experiencing a shudder, steering vibration felt through the steering wheel and vehicle structure, combined with a moan type noise. This condition is noticed in during low speed maneuvers or when car is stationary and the wheel is turned.
There is a rubbing/vibration sound/feel when the steering wheel is turned either left or right most of the time. The sound/feel ismore pronounced at times than other times and there when moving or parked. My dealer has attempted to fix the problem without success. Gm says (verbal only) they know of no fix but their engineers are working to find a fix.this (no fix but working on it) has been going on now for nearly 30 days.since the issue is related to the steering i am concerned that my ability to control the car may be lost at some point.my last communication with gm was aug 31, 2011. This has been reported to the bbb iaw gm procedures.
Power steering makes binding noise when turning steering wheel.dealer has replaced power steering pump, greased strut shafts, replaced power steering hoses, replaced steering gear and bled lines. This has involved three trips to the dealer and leaving the vehicle. Dealer has been very helpful with a loaner car.but gm continues to ignore problem and sandbags, hoping i'll give up. I'm afraid steering could fail at speed and cause serious accident, my wife is hesitant to drive the vehicle.i'm considering enacting the florida lemon law, however we like the car would make this the last recourse if nhtsa can not help.
Steering groans at low speeds and when stationary. There is also sporadic vibration in the steering wheel.

I just bought this vehicle. I have owned it less than three months and it has less than 5,000 miles and needs the rack and pinion replaced. Luckily i heard an unfamiliar noise while turning to the left mostly and mentioned it during service. The technician says that the problem was that "it made a noise."if the only problem is that it made a noise, why does the rack and pinion need to be replaced, and why is it not considered a safety issue?

The select the parts wont let me enter the description.when my vehicle is in cruise control the switch can be accidentally slightly touched and will shut off the cruise control causing the vehicle to immediately slow down without any warning to the vehicle behind me since the brake lights do not come on. I really feel that this is a safety related issue.gmc has a new cruise control switch for 2012 which is a push on and push off switch which alleviates this problem.i have contacted gmc and they informed that there is no plan to retrofit the 2011 terrain with the new 2012 switch.please advise!gmc knows that the toggle switch was faulty and replaced it with a push on push off switch.i just want my vehicle to be safe.

Engine problem
I was having the struts and shocks looked at in my car.while the worker finished the job, he put the car down and took it for a test drive to make sure it was good to go. One that test drive, he said something did not seem correct.after he got it back to the shop and back on the rack, the frame was cracked and rusted through. This was not the case when my car was previously worked on by getting a new ball joint back in the fall of 2019.

Rear tailgate door goes up fully, then comes down half way, backup fully, then closes all the way down. This happens with keyless remote, switch inside vehicle and vehicle started or not started.
Was sold a vehicle with multiple mechanical problems with it within the first week of purchase as well as an open recall on this vehicle.

Opened remote lift gate it went up very fast then came down on top of my head leaving me with a very bad head ache.continues to do the same thing was checking to see if there was a recall on this problem
I bought my car used in 2014. There was no mention of the car burning so much oil! i put 3 qts in my car every 3 weeks! it burns oil like crazy!
Exhaust manifold cracked between cylinders 2 and 3 upstream oxygen sensor from hot exhaust gases from the leak passing on the wires and heater element within the oxygen sensor and exhaust manifold top heat shield. Carbon monoxide leaking through floor board
Driving home from work and making a right hand turn the car started making a horrible grinding noise. I thought my wheel was coming detached from the car. Had the car towed and have been told that my front differential "exploded". Not a happy camper, bought 2nd hand, has 77,000 miles now costing me 2500.00 to 5000.00 to repair.sad thing is, is we never use the 4 wheel drive.
My wife was driving the vehicle and went over a bump and heard a bang come from the rear driver side of the vehicle . When i looked you could see the were the rear suspension bolts to the sub-frame was all rusted away, so i inspected the passenger side of the vehicle and it was almost like the drivers side. If the bushings were not tight that arm would have fallen down and it would have ripped the whole rear of the car out causing and accident were people would have been injured or killed.
Fuel pump problems. Misfiring and shutting off.
Terrain was recalled for oil consumption and would stall about 500-700 miles after oil change because oil was at least 1 quart low. The dealership fixed it with the oil consumption recall parts and put less than 15 miles after the fix,the terrain flat out died in an intersection when attempting to go at the green light.i almost got t-boned and rear ended because i was at the end of a green light with a car behind me and i couldn't get it started before the cross traffic's light turned green.dangerous! i called the dealership and they said to bring it back.i'm just worried because i'm reading about several people with terrains and equinoxes having this same issue with no end in sight and the dealerships not wanting to fix this serious issue. I checked the oil when i got it off the street but the oil was not low. It has never stalled when it was good on oil....this is a brand new, dangerous problem!
I smelled fumes. The check engine light did not go on.i brought to my mechanic who said it had a cracked exhaust manifold.co is leaking into my car. I will pay $1000 to have this fixed. No accidents.just a faint smell of gas.i have 2 kids and routinely bring other peoples' kids into my car.unacceptable gmc.
My car has been wasting to much engine oil for no reason
Catalytic converter recall. I have had an issue my 2011 gmc terrain for about a 7 months now. Back in november of 2017, so i have had a problem with my car for about a month and a half at that time, i took my terrain in for a regularly sechedualedoil change. While getting my oil changed i asked if they could look at my car to see what the problem was. They said i had a leak in my exhaust and that my catalytic converter was broken. I was looking up prices to get the catalytic converter changed and saw there was a recall for it and called my local chevy dealership to find out more. I am now at 123000 miles, so the dealership told me that i was over the allowed miles of 120,000. I switched p.o. Boxes and never received a letter letting me know about the recall. I do have the paper saying that the catalytic converter is broken and at the time i had 119,856 miles which is just under the 120,000 mile mark, and that was after about a month and a half of issue with my terrain. I wanted to know if you would honor the recall since i have the document stating i wasn't at 120,000 miles and that the catalytic converter was broken, the document is included in the picture below.
Liftgate not working.access to the back compartment is compromised as the liftgate does not work either using the wireless keys or pressing on the button to manually open the liftgate.the door continuously latches and makes it nearly impossible to open.i have to trick the timing and attempt to pull (using great force) before the liftgate will latch again.lots of force has to be used as compressed air makes it very difficult to lift and close the back liftgate.although gm has had nearly 900,000 vehicles recalls with the same problem, i was told my vehicle does not fall in this recall.please consider my 2011 gmc terrain as part of this recall, so i can get it repaired.thank you!
The automatic lift gate will open, reach the top and then automatically go down. It will go half way , pop back open to the top then fully shut. It does not read that something is stopping it from closing. The enclave, traverse, acadia and outlook are currently under recall with the same issue but not the terrain.
The liftgate on my 2011 gmc terrain failed on 8/31/2021.it lifted to the 3/4 setting and then fell, hitting me in the head, and then it lifted back up and then closed.i have tried to operate the liftgate several times following this incident and it continues to do the same thing.i currently have the liftgate in the off position so that it does not cause bodily injury to anyone else.please confirm that there will be a recall associated with this incident since bodily injuries were incurred.
I have a 2011 gmc terrain with 59000 miles on it and the catalic convertor is rotting away and i was wondering if there was any other problems or if it will be covered
Vehicle keeps shutting off when driving. I was at stop sign vehicle just shut off i started it back and try to go park it back home it shut off 4 times before it gotin my driveway. The truck recently did the sosamething two weeks ago and i took it to the dealership and was told they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I just recently got the fuel pump changed, this is when the issue started right after having the fuel pump changed. We went back to the same dealership and had them check the fuel pump but i was told that it was on properly. There are no indicators that pop up, no check engine light. This is very dangerous if on busy highways/interstates.
Noticed "check engine" light came on when i turned on the engine. Since, i just bought the car the day before, i thought may be it need an oil change. So, i drove it but it stalled when i get to the stop sign in the parking lot. I turned the engine back on, drove about 15 miles and when i got to the traffic light, i slowed down to make a right (light was green), the car stalled and locked the steering wheel! i am thankful there was no car behind me. I just do not feel safe driving that car.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000. The vin was not available.
I bought a used 2011 gmc terrain with a clean carfax and 35000 miles on it.i have had nothing but problems.the car burn at least a quart of oil every 2 weeks.the constantly just cuts off when driving.gmc needs to do sometime about this before peolpe are killed.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently to 30 mph. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
2011 gmc terrain.consumer writes in regards to engine and vehicle acceleration issues.the consumer stated when he accelerated from 25 to 35 mph, he experienced a sudden loss of power to 5 mph.the dealer replaced the throttle body.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated to approximately 30 mph and did not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the total control module failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the same independent mechanic who stated that the vehicle had a very high oil consumption and needed a new engine. The mechanic stated that the repair was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was notified. The dealer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,715.

Driving at night is very hard because there is a visibility problem.more than half of the windshield is blacked out.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated the windshield was difficult to see out of when driving at night. Was on the interstate with the windshield wipers on because of the very heavy rain. Then out of no where the windshield wipers quit working and were completely stuck straight up and down causing very unsafe driving conditions as i was not able to hardly see at all and had no where to safely pull off to the side at.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. The contact stated that the windshield wiper blades had to be replaced after two years. The contact felt that the blades were wearing prematurely. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 12,400.
While driving home on the highway, it began to rain heavily.i went to turn on my windsheild wipers and they would not engage. I was terrified and could not see a thing. Because the traffic was heavy, i was not going fast, but slowed down even more to afford myself some visibility. I did some research on this problem and found recalls for the 2013 model. I also found websites where other model year owners have detailed the same terrifying default.i called gmc and was told my vin was not under recall. A mechanic has advised that it sounds like the motor needs replacing because he hears the gears grinding, but this was not an official diagnostic. I did not purchase the extended warranty when i bought the car in december 2016. I cannot believe i have to fork over $$$ to fix an known gmc issue. I have read complaints on the link below from 2010 owners as well. I hope gmc will either making this model year part of the recall, or reimbursing the owners expenses to fix it.thanks for the platform to be heard.
During a driving rain, going 65 mph on the highway, when i put my wipers on high, they stopped working altogether.i had been in the passing lane, had to avoid crashing, and get over 2 lanes and get myself to the nearest exit.a white knuckle experience, to say the least.we had to replace the entire wiper motor at our expense and inconvenience.
While driving wipers stopped working, was told i needed and new wiper transmission.this was extremely hazardous because it was raining heavily.the mileage on the vehicle was approximately 94000.
Driving on a busy highway during a rainstorm and the windshield wipers stopped in the up position. I had to slow down quickly and find my way onto the shoulder since visibility went to zero and there was traffic all around me.you could still hear the wiper motor turning but the wipers wouldn't move from the up position.i had to wait over an hour and a half for the rain to stop before i was able to drive home.due to traffic on the highway and the rain on the pavement, i was only able to drive at a speed of 25-30 mph, since traffic was lifting the rain off of the pavement and onto my windshield.this could have been a terrible situation where a severe accident almost occurred due to the windshield wiper motor and linkage system failed.i have called my local dealership and found that a recall hasn't been issued for this problem but that there have been thousands of reports to this faulty issue.i have also found that there is a recall for this issue in canada but not in the united states, which is concerning.
The windshield wipers quit while exiting an interstate highway ramp (i-94) in port huron, mi.we were in the middle of a torrential rain storm with very low visibility and the loss of wipers created a serious safety hazard.upon inspection, it was determined that the wiper linkage had disengaged and fallen off.the wiper linkage/transmission required for repair is acdelco part# del 84241847.we purchased it at a cost of $66.69 and it was installed by a family member.
I was on my way home on the interstate driving 55 in the pouring rain when my windshield wipers stopped working!! my boyfriend got my vehicle home and determined what the problem is. Easy fix. But that is not the point! i was put in an extremely hazardous situation. From the research i have done this happens all the time! i called gm and they said "well at least no one was injured" which, yes i am thankful no one was injured.. However, this is an ongoing issue that they care nothing about! it needs to be handled...
On june 20, 2019 aprx 3:20 pm i was traveling the nj turnpike in a heavy downpourthe wipers just stopped working in the middle of the storm.heavy heavy rain and traffic on the turnpike made for a very dangerous situation.i was forced to find my way to the shoulder of the road and almost caused an accident in doing so because i could not see properly.i had to stay put until the rain stopped so i could proceed home.gmc knows about the problem with the wipers yet has not recalled my vehicle. The recalled the 2013 models yet most modesl from 2010 and up have the same defective part (ball joints in the wipers transmission / motor are defective.
On wednesday, may 19th at approximately 8:30pmi was driving east on i-10 leaving baton rouge during a torrential rain storm with family members in my car. As we were driving with the wiper blades on, without warning the driver side wiper blade completely! stopped! it went off to the left and rested on the driverā€™s rearview mirror. It was such a horrifying shock, i had to lean over to the front passenger side to see out of the window with the help of my sister.i tried to slow down to see if we could get off the interstate or whether or not there was an overpass we could stop under and try to fix the wiper. When we stopped under the first available overpass, i tried to adjust the wiper and played with the on off switch to see if i could get the driver side wiper to work again. It never has workedsince yesterday. I decided to stay at a safe distance behind an 18 wheeler using its red lights and trailer width to exit at the nearest offramp where we waited out the rain. When we started out again, we encountered rain again on the bonnie carr spillway which was extraordinarily dangerous. Iā€™ve never been so frightened driving in my life as the life. No mechanic, police or insurance have looked at the car. I found that gmc has/had a recall for the 2013 gmc terrains(in canada?) but no other year. In a forum i found many other gmc owners who have experienced the same thing but havenā€™t received any recall information to get the problem fixed. I cannot imagine a more dangerous situation than having your windshield wipers go out doing a major storm in louisiana. As we are heading into hurricane season this is a crucial issue for me. It is my sincere hope that gmc will contact me and allow me to go somewhere to get these wiper blades fixed or replaced. If i get the wiper blades fixed myself, i would like gmc to confirm in writing that they will reimburse me for the cost. Also, iā€™m concerned that i could be putting more defect gmc wiper products on my car. Please help.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving 65 mph, the windshield wipers stopped working during a rainstorm. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,550. Updated 05/19/17*lj*as
The car is only 5 years old and now the compressor and condenser are broken and need to be replaced.seem like gm products aren't holding up very well.i had to have freion added last year because the ac wouldn't work and again this year.
As i was driving home from work this evening on a highway at approximately 6:15pm it started to pour down rain. Due to the rain i was going about 45 mph. I turned my wipers on the highest speed possible. After about 5 minutes they instantly stopped working and were stuck in the vertical position. The wipers would not move in my attempts to cut them on and off again. It was truly terrifying. Between the rain, thunder, lightning and not being able to see i was really in a dangerous situation. I was able to pull off the road without injuring myself or someone else fortunately. I had to sit there and wait for it to stop raining before i could go home. After doing some research online it appears that this is a problem that you are aware of. This is a serious problem that gmc, in my opinion, is responsible for. I'm shocked that when i searched online regarding this issue that i saw numerous complaints. I can not stress enough how dangerous this issue is. I truly feel that all terrain owners need to be made aware of this. I also feel that this is serious enough that your department needs to conduct a thorough investigation and there needs to be a recall initiated since there is apparently a recall on these same vehicles in canada. Thank you in advance for your time regarding this dangerous issue.
The contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. While driving approximately 50 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers stopped operating without warning. The contact exited the freeway, pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road, and waited for the rain to stop. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 117,100.
Sudden downpours, when i activated the wipers there was a mechanical noise and both wipers stopped working, while in motion on freeway. Forced to drive with near zero visibility until next safe stopping point with my kids in the car. Stopped, checked fuse which was ok, checked wipers and found the transmission must have failed at the motor or drive as both wipes were connected to each other but otherwise free to move by hand.
Was driving about 35 mph on back roads in pouring rain with wipers on high, when the wipers stopped in the up position. No other cars where on the roads, and was only about 2 miles from my house, so made it home, but very slowly. Can hear wiper motor working, but wiper blade arms do not move, like they have become unattached from wiper motor.
Driving down i5 during a downpour when the drivers side windshield wiper went off the side of the windshield. Skirted trafficto bring the car to the side of the road and moved the wiper back onto the windshield. Wipers would no longer work. Towed off interstate to the nearest dealership where they stated the wiper transmission was "broken" and they replaced it.
During heavy rain storm wipers stopped working while driving on hwy. We were unable to see the road. Dealership is saying the wiper module failed.
While driving in the pouring rain on a busy new york highway both windshield wipers stopped working. They were stopped in the middle of the windshield. Nothing would make them move. I had to quickly pull over and have the car towed. It was unsafe to continue driving in the rain when it was impossible to see. When i took it to the mechanic he said the ball joints in the windshield wiper module corroded resulting inboth of the windshield wipers becoming inoperative. This issue was recalled with the 2013 model recall number 16v582000 recall date 08/04/2016 component visibility:windshield wiper/washer:motor. Gm's number for this recall is 25302 but has not been recalled as of yet in the 2011 model and it should be!

Last summer (july 2019) our wipers stopped in the up position during a heavy thunderstorm on the highway while we traveling over 60 mph.it was very scary and we are lucky we did not crash. We replaced the wiper blade transmission. Now during an ice storm the blades quit again. I find that there are several complaints regarding issues with the wiper blades and that canada has a recall on them due to the safety issue. Why do we not have recall for this in the us?

No one was injured, but it could have been disastrous for us and others.
