No deployment of air bag caused client (meiselman) injures during a major frontal crash.nlm (attorney for consumer)

Had an accident 22-jul-99, and airbags didn't deploy.consumer has not contacted dealer and manufacture.had brake problemsand had them replaced 1000 miles under warranty.

Driving vehicle at speed of 55mph, frontal collision, impact 12:00 position, driver's side airbag did not deploy.

While the truck is running the engine will shut off and about once a week.when starting the truck, it will not start. The truck has been towed to the dealer 4 times in the last 6 weeks. The battery/starter and alternator have all been replaced, and the problem continues.consumer feels this is due to an electrical problem.

1996 gmc suburban, caught on fire.bfohio traffic crash report #10-0580-91 updated 05/03/10

Problem started in may with previous owner.battery leaking, alternator went.radio went inyo anti-theft. Battery has been replaced 5 times (battery leaking) & altenator 2 times since may.the radio had to be replaced.after anti-theft mode was fixed, only cd would work.car has just fied again.saw article in paper referring this problem but when checked with dealer (rt 22-bridgewater) they knew nothing about this.

The battery is leaking acid from the positive terminal, causingvehcile not to start. Engineer analysis# ea00013. Please give any further details.

Vehicle battery went bad. Dealer replaced battery with new gmc orignal and replaced alternator.new battery failed months later.positive terminal on battery leaked and destoryed connector.failed whlie driving car on interstate at 65mph.total electrical failure was able to pull over. Car statred back up. Failure was on and off and hard to detect.finally failed for good few days later.dealer wanted to charge $600 for new cables & battery. Battery destoryed all power cables. Had "coming to jesus" talk with dealer. Wasn't going to pay for damage that was done by their battery that they installed under warranty. Agreed painfully to pay for new battery ($79).installed interstate battery intead. No problems since.

Battery failed and leaked battery acid into engine compartment. Intermittent failure to start was subsequent to battery failure. No apparent damage to brake subsystem apparent yet, will investigate brakes further.

Batteryleaking acid caused the side post to crack and corrode. Cause unknown.please give any further details.

Battery failed.

Battery case cracked at entry of terminal causing acid to leak out.owner replaced battery and flushed area with water/baking soda solution to neutralize acid.possible further corrosion damage to a/c plumbing and other components/wiring in the vicintiy of the battery.vehicle was inoperative.

Battery failed.

On going electrial problems, replace battery, battery cable, alternater, due to battery acid leaking down cable and corroded cable.

Dt: the contact owns a 1996 gmc suburban. When he purchased the vehicle it had 26,000 miles on it. He was pulling a trailer, with the trailer and the truck it weighs from any where 10-15,000 pounds. There is a bolt that 3 quarters inch long .put the two cables together and bolted it into the side battery. The bolt became loose. Hadall the power necessary to steer or to stop the vehicle. While pulling this trailer it was extremely hard to control the vehicle. The insert in the battery, where the thread sectionwas put the bolt into.if tighten edit it puts a hole in the battery andstarts to leak battery acid. Every morning he tightens the bolt a little bit. Consumer spoken with gm ,and they ignored it. Also spoke with the dealership . They did not even believe him.one of the people at the dealershipreplaced one cable because it deteriorated. He has replacedfor four batteries since he purchased the vehicle .

Alternator failed.

1996 gmc suburban experiences a complete loss of all electrical power upon acceleration. Engine shuts down and will not recrank. At times, will not crank initially.have replaced battery (twice) and alternator.dealer says problem is battery.

Starter failed.

Electrical wires overheated.

Fuel pump failed, upon inspection of the unit mechanic found that the insulation was burned on the wiring inside of the tank.we have had this none functioning fuel system problem for over a year. This was the first time it completely quit and would not start.it would seem to me that amp draw enough to melt back wire insualtion insde the fuel tank should be fuse protected!last time the truck would not start the dealership we use in clinton mo ( raysick gmc, clinton mo) towed the truck in and once inside it started.but the truck has left us stranded numerous times before.

While the vehicle was parked and the igniton was off the switch on the drivers door for the side view mirrors suddenly ignited . The keys were not in the car and in fact the car had not been in use for over five hours. Luckily our son went out into the garage and reported back that the car was full of smoke. When i went out the flames were already coming up through the melted holes in the door trim panel.

I have two gmc vehicles with the same engine, a gas 5.7l v8, that required intake manifold gasket replacement within one month of each other. The first vehicle is a 1996 1500 suburban with 90,000 miles. The other is a 1998 k1500 pickup with 80,000 miles. Both leaks occurred at the rear of the bottom intake manifold. The mechanic performing the repair states this is a very common problem with his shop performing approximately 5-6 a month in a town of only 30,000. The dealer denies any generic problem. Inspection of the gasket implies a temperature related problem of the gasket body that undermines the seal ridge.

Radiator failed.

On the gmc 6.5 the pmd, or pump mounted driver fails due to heat failure, also failing for no reason in 8 degree temperatures. When it fails there are no signs, warnings just stalling the power steering, power brakes gone. Now put yourself on a 2 mile hill of an insane descent, and yourself behind the steering wheel what would you do? this is insanity that the dealership will only help you if there is less than 100,000 miles on your car, and then all they do is replace the pump, when the pump isn't the problem its the pump mounted driver. I personally have spoken to and been to the manufacturers and they refuse to admit there is a problem, this is the manufacturer! but i don't understand how after 11 years nothing has been done about this problem, only a rip and replace, and if there's to many miles to bad for you. I have tried almost every after market solution out there and these manufacturers too are baffled about this situation. So why if there is no problem are there a dozen business making money off of trying to fix the manufacturers problem? if the manufacturer doesn't have to take the blame than who does? the family of 7 that wrote in? when they die is something going to be done , because its not a matter of if, its a matter of when, and i hope that day never happens. But i hope that more than the family has trouble sleeping because i feel better for trying to avoid this catastrophe. Thank you for you time.sincerely concerned, jon lamb

We have a 1996 6.5 turbo diesel gmc suburban. We had severe stalling problems. The dealer replaced the fuel pump at their cost and installed at our cost, new glow plugs, glow plug sensor, battery, and battery cables suspected to be the problem. It continued to stall. We returned to the dealer and they replaced the pump again at their cost, but we had to pay to drop the tank to check for contamination. There was a deteriorated screen we paid to replace. It still stalled. Only this time it stalled when i was going 50 mph and approaching curves along the river. I lost all power steering and brakes. Me and my five young kids almost ended up in the river. Had it been normal winter roads, we would have.all along we've done research and had it rediagnosed by a professional diesel mechanic, so we knew to tell our dealer (automall in brattleboro vermont) to replace the pump mounted driver (pmd) sometimes called a fuel solenoid driver (fsd). After problems where automall tried to rip us off for a fake $100 deductible, they will install it at no charge tomorrow (1/7/04). We have driven just over 1000 miles total.however, this does not fix the problem. From all the research we've done, weve discovered many people have reported the same dangerous accounts of stalling. Several report having almost had serious accidents like i had two days ago. According to research, pmd failures are the most common part to fail on gm 6.5 diesels.the pmd overheats because of placement near the engine. There is a simple, yet costly fix that consumers should not have to pay to be safe. A pump driver cooler (pdc) can mount on the firewall (not the engine) to move the pmd away from the heat. Please investigate and issue a recall to install pdc's on these engines so we can once again be safe in our vehicles. My family of 7 cant afford another stall, especially during these winter months, and new pdcs alone cant guarantee safety.thank you.

Vehicle will stall when coming to a stop, has also stalled once at 60 mph.

The engine cuts off while going at any speed/ an any occasion, and in any weather.reduced fuel consumption efficiency. Dealer can't duplicate problem, cause unknown.*ml

While driving the engine dies. When taken to a chevrolet dealership the fuel injection pump was found to be faulty. Gm dealers have not been able to diagnose what the problem is. The truck has been brought to the gm dealer 4times.

Upon appying the abs brakes in low speeds, the brakes failed 3three times to stop the vehicle. Once resulting in a crash/injuries. Also, replaced oxygen sensor.

Air conditioner lines leaking causing corrosion at evaporator fitting, hoses and lines replaced.

Air conditioner lines leaking causing corrosion at evaporator fitting, hoses and lines replaced.

Air conditioner failure.

Daytime running lights inoperative.

Consumer pulls a trailer with vehicle and if using hazard lights, all lights will blowout, including brake lights. Contacted gmc and truck customer relations who stated consumer could not use hazard lights while pulling a trailer. Consumer stated the hazard lights and brakes light on the trailer as well as the vehicle were no longer operative.

Put on emergency flasher switch and went to change tire. Upon returning to the driver's seat, noticed flashers failed.brought vehicle to dealer and checked the emergency flasher switch, noticed it was burned out.

It is a well known fact that there is a defect with the fuel injection pump on the gm 6.5l diesel engines.i have had a number of these pumps replaced by gm at their cost.however, the problem is not getting resolved.these vehicles die intermittently.when they die (stall), you loose your ability to control your vehicle with the loss of steering and braking (for the most part).there have been numerous times when i have almost been involved in an accident because of this issue.it is extremely dangerous when these vehicles die because of the pump problem.i am in hopes that this complaint could possibly turn into some sort of investigation within gm to have them fix the problem.they seem to keep replacing my bad fuel injection pumps with more soon-to-be bad fuel injection pumps....*la

While replacing the fuel pump to try to fix my problem, i found the power wire (gray), melted inside the fuel tank.maybe it grounded out somehow, but the whole wire harness is burnt, and the wire is brittled and burnt.

The wiring in the fuel tank for the fuel pump got hot and melted shorting out the fuel pump.nlm

Consumer states when driving vehicle stalls. Dealer states fuel injector is clogged.

Fuel injection pump malfunctioned, causing loss of power steering and brakes which nearly caused a collision. The injection pump computer has been failing continuously for 3 years, gmc is aware of the problem, and is attempting to repair it. .et.

Vehicle shuts off while driveing gm knows of problem and has replaced injection pump and pump mounted driver 3 times so far gm special policy c00064for 11yrs or 120000 miles.the same problems still exsist i have a 9 passenger in order to take my kids and friends to sporting events on one such occastion.the truck shut off without warning a tractor trailer was behind us thank god he was paying attention and no one was hurt.this is a serious safety problem that is nation wide for 6.5 turbo diesel owner.dt

While driving vehicle dies and would not restart. Replaced battery, but it did not solve problem.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds on the highway, the engine stalled without warning.after stalling, the vehicle was not easily restarted.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the fuel injector pump needed to be replaced.after the initial replacement, the problem persisted.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the fuel pump needed to be replaced again.the manufacturer was alerted.updated 12/18/2006 - the injector pump which was replaced under recall failed again.the consumer also wanted to recall fixed, however the dealer refused to honor the recall.recall numbers 96v057000 and 03v159000. Updated 03/21/07.

Pressure regulator/ fuel injectors/ front differential seal failure.

Fuel injectors failed.

Arcing connector inside fuel tank causes fuel pump to fail and loss of engine power. Gm technican reported that he performs at least 2 replacement senders + fuel pumps/week- indicating that " the sender/fuel pump connector is always fried when the pump goes". As an engineer, i believe there is an eminent danger of a fuel tank explosion provided proper air/fuel ratio is achevied. Vehicle has 42 gallon tank. Model years 1999 onward have this assembly encased in fiberglass cylinder which would prevent fire/explosion.

Locks for various doors have stuck four times, preventing entry or exit fromvehicle. Dealership has examined vehicle, and performed repair work. Consumer was also having problems with the windshield wipers which failed intermittently, consumer was informed that there was a recall however it did not apply to consumers vehicle due to the vin.

Series of email correspondence with gm regarding the transmission replacement in my 1996 gmc suburban which failed after only 75,000 miles - 25,000 miles before the gm recommended service.gm has chosen not to offer any assistance.i have found this to be a common occurrence with gm transmissions.12/31/2003 08:37 ammichelle, i had the local dealer install a new transmission last week.i asked the service technician why the transmission had failed.he noted that it had overheated and trash and debris were found in the fluid.he also noted that they, the gm dealer, recommend servicing the transmission every 50,000 miles.i follow the short-trip service schedule even though my truck is driven on the highway and not used excessively to avoid problems like this.according to the gm owners manual, the transmission should not have required servicing for another 25,000 miles.i follow and exceed your service recommendations.i now have a failure that could have been avoided more frequent service.please help me understand.-----original message-----from: [email protected]: 12/23/03 10:08:53 amto: [email protected]: re: 1-172307605i had a very good conversation with joe.unfortunately, with his best efforts, he was not able to secure any assistance.i understand the transmission is out of warranty.i understand that there have been no recalls.what i do not understand - after speaking with multiple automotive professionals including several gm service and parts associates - is why this appears to be a common issue with gm trucks.i can also speak from my sister's personal transmission replacement in her 2002 z71tahoe.if the truck had been used for business purposes, had not been serviced regularly, or had over 150,000 miles - i could understand the transmission failing.again, this truck has less than 75,000 highway miles and has been used for family travel.

We have replaced our automatic transmission twice since owning our 96 gmc suburban.we have owned the truck since 1998.

Transmission failed twice.

Defective control module causing transmission to fail, resulting in potential safety hazard. A technical service bulletin has been issued.*ml

Transmission failed.

Vehicle was put into neutral from park without vehicle running and without brakes pushed on causing vehicle to roll backwards with drivers side door open into a pole causing door to be damaged.

Transmission failed twice.

Transfer case snap ring failed second time in 89,000 miles. Makes grinding sound from stop as gears clash. Can avoid major damage if accelerate very slowly.snap ring is a $2 part. Labor is about $150 to replace snap ring.$700 to repair transfer case if internal damage.

Consumer has noticed leaking of bearings and all 8 seals. Also when driving of gravel surfacesand applying brakes, the vehicle exceeds the normal stopping distance.

Pressure regulator/ fuel injectors/ front differential seal failure.

Consumer has noticed leaking of bearings and all 8 seals. Also when driving of gravel surfacesand applying brakes, the vehicle exceeds the normal stopping distance.

Differential internal case failed.

Worst problem is in differential - it makes a sound like airplane ready to take off - can't believe that a 4 yr. Old car can have this happen - have spent well over $5,000 since i bought it - really upset !

While driving at 35 mph, defective clips that hold the driveshaftnear the rear pinion fell apart, causing the drive shaft to fall out which almost cause an accident.

While driving down the highway in a heavy rainstormwindshield wipers worked intermittently.contacted dealer. Dealersaid that consumer needed to replace motor and circuit board.also, when pulling away from a stop light driver's seat slid forward or backward.seat wobbled in the tracks. Dealer replaceddriver's side seat track.

Owner noted popping noise at floorboard; dealer detected cracks in l/f power seat adjuster at floor mount; dealer r/r'd entire assembly.

When we first test drove this vehicle we noticed that the brakes were "grabbing" veryabnormally and we commented that the brakes had a bad problem to the salesman that was with us, also we had noticed that the windshield wiper did not work properly on the passenger's side. We were told that the brakes would be fixed and that the windshield wiper would be fixed. The dealer said that they had turned the rotors on both front and back brakes and had repaired the wiper. After we had purchased the vehicle the brakes were better but they were not fixed.when you would apply the brakes at any time it would shimmy, buck and jump. If you had to make a sudden stop it would jump many times before it would come to a complete stop. I don't mean that the foot pedal would jump, i mean that the vehicle itself would shimmy and jump. I have taken this vehicle to another gmc dealer - gwatney gmc- to have them work on the brakes and they at first thought that the rotors needed turning again. After they turned them the vehicle still responded in the same manner. They now say that the anti-lock sensor is bad on the right side, (a $500.00 component). I don't understand why the anti-lock brake indicator on the dash never gave me a warning that something was wrong. I would like to know if you have had any reports similar to this problem for the gmc braking system, malfunctioning of indicators on the dashboard or if there is a recall for this make and model for any of these problems. My daughter-in-law has told me that she thought that there is a recall for the anti-lock brakes on gmc light trucks for the years 1993 thru 1997. I know someone in a 1996 gmc jimmy that was in a serious accident where her airbags did not deploy and her brakes did not function properly in this accident. It'sa miracle that she was able to keep her leg which was mangled, broken in several places and cut up from this accident.the windshield wipers work about 96% of the time.

Traveling at approx. 20 mph, driver tried to stop and brake pedal went completely and smoothly to the floor.driver kept foot and pedal, pushing harder and the abs kicked in and stopped vehicle.

Anti-lock brakes lock up.

The abs on this vehicle produces poor stopping distances particularly on wet or loose (gravel or dirt) surfaces.this has resulted in several near misses and one accident involving 3 vehicles.the brakes were replaced at 42000 mi. This produced no improvement. There seems to be a large delay before the brakes actually produce any deceleration.

When applying the abs brakes, the vehicle pulls to the right.cause unknown.please provide details.

Brake pads had to be replaced on four occasions on front wheels within every 13,000 miles of wear. Notified dealer and informed consumer to contact manufacturer who, in turnadvised consumer to contact nhtsa. Can nhtsa help or provide additional information on this matter.

Brake pedal is spongy, and there is extended braking distance. Dealer has replaced frontpads and front discs. But,did not remedy problem.

No summary listed for this vehicle.

Poor abs brake performance, during normal stopping, onwet pavement, the brakes lock up and will not release quickly.

Lock up/braking failure during panic stop, vehicle pulls quickly to the left.

Abs brakes failed, resulting in extended stopping distance.

Antilock brakes failed.

When slamming on brakes toavod hitting another vehicle, brakes locked up, and vehicle slid about 15 feet before stopping. Consumer stated that ground was not wet.

Noted car stopped at red light, started braking at around 300 feet, 35 mph, full abs, wet road, impacted rear at perhaps 10 mph.just traded a ford van without abs and am certain it would have stopped in that distance. Further note: the suburban's tire pressure was 40 psi all four.

Consumer has noticed leaking of bearings and all 8 seals. Also when driving of gravel surfacesand applying brakes, the vehicle exceeds the normal stopping distance.

A truck in front of me stopped when the traffic light turned yellow. I tried to stop and had plenty of time to stop. The brakes locked up (there was a slight noise of the brakes locking up) and i was surprised i was not going to be able to stop. I released the brakes to try braking again. I applied the brakes and they locked up again. To avoid rear ending the truck, i had to swerve between it and the car in the left turn lane. My passenger side rear view mirror made contact with the backside of the truck. My brakes finally caught when my suburban was ahead of his truck. The pavement was wet but it was not raining.

This vehical has intermittent left and right pulling, reduced braking performance, premature pad wear and replacment, and expensive system upgrades.

Ea95026, poor brake performance: when applying the brakes in an emergency situation, pedal travels to the floorboard and the truck would not stop.this condition caused a rear end crash. This happens on any type of road surface and no inclement weather.dealer was not able to duplicate this problem. Please provide any further information.

Abs brake failure causes whells to lock up under normal braking.

Was driving vehicle, went to apply abs brakes, brake pedal went to the floor. Vehicle pulled to right & then to the left whenever braking; sometimes just before brakes would catch there is a hesitation.

I purchased my vehicle brand new.within the first 18 months of ownership, my brakes were replaced three times with numerous other parts changed.the vehicle was pulling to the right when brakes were applied.although i have not had any trouble within the last year, the truck still does not stop like it should under normal braking conditions.gm gave me an extended warranty to cover the cost of any extra repairs, should the need arise.i would like to know the results of the brake evaluations on the gmc trucks.thank you.

Vehicle was exhibiting no problems.upon approaching a red traffic light the brake pedal was depressed, and the pedal went to the floor, as if the abs system was kicking in, but the vehicle did not slow down.i replaced the master cylinder and bled all brake lines, and the condition still exists.i performed diagnostics on the vehicle according to seveal service manuals and determined that the abs modulator valve has failed in such a manner as to allow brake fluid to bleed into the abs accumulator, without getting an abs diagnostic failure light.i had to drive the vehicle home for over 20 miles with severely limited breaking power and was very fortunate to have avoided an accident.i would rather not have abs breaks on the vehicle than have a break system that can fail in this manner.pumping the brake pedal was ineffective in building brake pressure, as is normally the case when a master cylinder fails.

Truck pulls when braking.tbs fix implemented with little to no improvement.last time at dealer, dealer said gmc has problem with 3/4ton suburban brakes but doesn't have fix.nothing he can do.truck has had combination valve replaced, rear shoes replaced, front pads replaced (5x total), calipers replaced, rotors replaced, tie rods replaced, idle arm replaced, steering box and pitman arm replaced, front brake hoses replaced, control arm bushings replaced, and aligned several times with no fix to the problem.braking at highway speeds it is very dangerous.you don't know which way the vehicle will go and how hard it will try to get there.as an engine designer i find it amazing that gm has a handling/safety issue of this magnitude.this is a big truck to have such a controlability problem.please help.a shaull

When the brakes were appliedin a panic stop pedal went to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.

When appyling the abs brakes extended stopping distance occurs, especially underfreezing temperatures and on rainy days..et.

Vehicle failed to stop and brake pedal was completely to the floor on 3 occasions.

Brakes deployed at will...fail at will....sometimes fail to release, causing vehicle to become immobilized....strong burning odor...scary noises and thumping

When applying the abs brakes on dry pavementpedal goes to the floor, causing extended stopping distance. Please give any further details.

Brakes would go all theway to floor before stopping.

While braking vehicle will pull to the left severely which may cause loss of vehicle control.dealer replaced rear brakes and front brake pads, but the problem is still occurring. Gm says that there is nothing they can do. *ml

I have been having ongoing problems with the brake system ranging from mild to severe vibration felt on braking.the discs and rotors and drums have been replaced 3 times in under 40000 miles.a numberof other trips to the dealership have been unsucessful in correcting the problem.

Upon appying the abs brakes in low speeds, the brakes failed 3three times to stop the vehicle. Once resulting in a crash/injuries. Also, replaced oxygen sensor.

After 9000 miles had to replace front brakes,10000 miles afterwards had to replace them again. This defect seems to occur every 10000 mile. ,dealer said it is gm design fault.

When applying the brakes go almost to the floor.vehicle did not stop, and hit another vehicle. Dealer said brakes needed to be replaced.

Vehicle lost all abs braking power on (5) occasions, dealership could not duplicate or find problem.

When the brakes are applied the vehicle experiences extended stopping distance.the dealer has replaced the brake pads and the rotors on the vehicle.

Brakes became very difficult to depress.fortunately i was able to stop the vehicle in time to avoid a collision with stopped traffic.power assist was replaced and brakes are operating fine.learned through auto parts supplier and dealership that this failure on the suburban has been very common.

The abs would fade when brakes wereapplied. Also, after brakes were applied, vehicle surged. Had applied pressure on brakes & vehicle failed to stop/ extended stoppping distance.

When applying the abs brakes pedal goes to the floor, causing extended stoppng distance.please give any further details.

When applying the brakes in any type of weather or speed, the vehicle pulls from right to left. Cause unknown.

Ea95026, while braking, the brake pedal seems "soft," and causes extended stopping distance, which mayresult ina crash.please provide further information.

Brakes on vehicle require excessive force to stop. Cause unknown.

When applyingabs brakes pedal becomes extremely soft and nearly goes to floor, causing extended stopping distance.also, brake pads and rotors have been replaced.but has not corrected the problem.please give any further details.

When applying the abs brakes the pedal traveled to the floor, causing extended stopping distance.please give any further details.

Limited recall limits my safety!i had a recent close call in my 1996 gmc suburban. The brakes began to anti-lock on dry pavement when anti-lock assistance was not required, thus greatly increasing my stopping distance. The brakes were not pressed hard; the anti-lock should not have engaged. It was a close call between my truck and the vehicle in front of me. Currently my suburban is not covered under gm's recent limited recall. However, attention needs to be given to this situation; my truck needs to be covered. My concern is not a trivial, my safety and the safety of others is at hand. Gm should be more than happy to take care of a safety issue. I recently read an article in the detroit news about gm's recall of 1.4 million 99-02 full size trucks and suv's in 20 states. The recall concerns the anti-lock brake wheel hub sensor getting inaccurate readings. The article brought the severity and critical importance of this recall and my problem to my attention. Proper recall procedures need to cover all vehicles affected, not limited by mileage, age, or location. Safety needs to be the main concern, not a political or financial agenda of automakers. Thank you for your prompt attention to my concerns...updated 07/01/14

Dt: 1996 chevrolet suburban.amanufacturer's recall05068concerningabs brakes on the 1999 through 2002 models. Was issued.this vehicle was not included in the recall although the consumerexperienced the same problem as mentioned in the recall. The consumer had not taken vehicle to the dealer yet, but the consumerknewthat there was no recall on thismake an model, and year for the abs.the abs activated between 3-10 mph, causingextendedstopping distance.this started happening about six months ago, not every time. Now,it happens every time whiledriving the vehicle under any road conditions. There have been no accidents because of this, but it is just a matter of time.couldnot count the number of times the abs failed.

On normal road conditions the abs brakes lock up intermittently and when they release after they lock up, the vehicle moves forward. Once vehicle was pushed out into an intersection and once vehicle almost hit another vehicle.

Repeated problems with brake failure following vehicle being parked in wet weather.sometimes there is near total loss of braking capability, sometimes severe vehicle "bucking" while trying to stop.symptoms diminish after several blocks of driving, re-appear after vehicle is parked for a few hours.dealer examined shortly after we purchased vehicle (used) and found no problem.have talked to other owners of suburbans and gmc/chevy light trucks of similar vintage and have found similar complaints.recent episode involved inability to stop and vehicle continued clear through intersection.i suspect rear brake linings/drums rust and tend to lock/release which seems to confuse the abs system until linings wear clean again.vehicle is a hazard to operate for first few blocks in wet weather.

No summary listed for abov evehicle.

The defective abs braking system malfunctioned, causing the spongey feeling brake pedal and having the vehicle to pull to left, and causing extending stopping distance.replaced the brake master cylinder.dealer cannot determine problem.

Hydraulic booster failed, together with constant poor braking performance for 3 yrs. Replacement part is almost impossible to find and over $800! gm contacted but would offer no assistance, even though they have had several complaints.

Poor abs brake performance during panic stops or at any speed. The pedal sinks to the floor and extended stopping distance is experienced.

When applying the brakes the pedal goes to the floor and there is no braking ability. Has been serviced 3 times.

Per the decision of the better business bureau auto line, an independent technician has found the anti lock braking system defective and the car unsafe to drive.we have rejected the bbb auto line option of having the manufacturer repair this defect as they have failed completely to repair the vehicle in 6 previous visits, therefore we are not comfortable signing away all legal rights to have them try to repair the brakes when gmc has not been able to repair the vehicle in the past.

Had faulty trailer outlet repaced in norwich,ny,while enroute to nj. While traveling down route 206 in nj my brakes for the treailer would not work.this was on a steep downhill. Was able to stop by pulling into an elks club parking lot.my trailer plug came out of the socket and was shredded do to dragging.an erlk member let me borrow his cable. The borrowed cable also came out twice. The replacement cable also would not stay in the outlet unless i tapped it. I repoted the problem to the dealer, olivers campers, norwich ny. The response that i recived was i did not know what i was doing.that i should tie the plug in with wire. I was not asking for anything other than to have the outlet looked into. I feel that this is a real safety road hazzard. It may be the only defective one but if not how many deffective outlets are there? i do have other trailers and they seem to lock okay. It may be that it is only certain plugs.but i feel that it needs to be addressed.

Hydraulic pump failed causing loss of power steering and brakes.

Front and back brake failures.

When the brakes are applied the vehicle experiences extended stopping distance.the dealer has replaced the brake pads and the rotors on the vehicle.

I have been having ongoing problems with the brake system ranging from mild to severe vibration felt on braking.the discs and rotors and drums have been replaced 3 times in under 40000 miles.a numberof other trips to the dealership have been unsucessful in correcting the problem.

This vehical has intermittent left and right pulling, reduced braking performance, premature pad wear and replacment, and expensive system upgrades.

When applyingabs brakes pedal becomes extremely soft and nearly goes to floor, causing extended stopping distance.also, brake pads and rotors have been replaced.but has not corrected the problem.please give any further details.

Brake pedal is spongy, and there is extended braking distance. Dealer has replaced frontpads and front discs. But,did not remedy problem.

Brake pads had to be replaced on four occasions on front wheels within every 13,000 miles of wear. Notified dealer and informed consumer to contact manufacturer who, in turnadvised consumer to contact nhtsa. Can nhtsa help or provide additional information on this matter.

Rotors warped, need to be turned every 5,000 - 7,000 miles.

Master cylinder failed resulting in brake loss.

Master cylinder broke, resulting in loss of brakes.

The brake's master cylinder cracked away from the power booster causing loss of braking power.vehicle was stopped with the use of the emergency brake.

While driving about 45 mph going around acurve, driver lost control of the suburban because it would not correct from the steering attempt. The steering wheel would rotated at 360 degrees, but would not correct the direction of the vehicle.gmc would not respond to complaint.

While driving at highway speeds, steering wheel "oversteers" which may cause a loss of vehicle control.dealer cannot determine the cause.

Steering column failure.

While driving at 45mph the steering wheel came loose and was able to be turned360 degrees, resulting in the vehicle hitting a wall due toa loose bolt insteering column.

Consumer had his steering shaft replaced because the car was driving funny.manufacturer said that it was not under warranty.

I've owned my gmc suburban less than two years and have had two sets of brake pads put on the vehicle.the brakes still do not act properly.the last set of rear brakespads was due to the rear axle seal leaking fluid all over them.last week the front brakes started vibrating upon stopping and they were replaced.i have owned several vehicles and i've never had this much trouble out of brakes.

Right rear axle seal failed.

The first tire failure involved the tread coming completely off the vehicle.this cause significant body damage to the suburban (about $3000).we were towing a 30' trailer with both instance.the tire pressure were checked prior to departure.the second incident involved a bubble forming on the tire tread.these were the original tires that came with the vehicle.( dot number: )

The tires that i am reporting are not currently on the list of recalled tires.the problem on these tires are the same as in the recalled tires. The tires are coming apart at the tread line at the sidewall. You can see cracks and bumps at the sidewall/ tread line, and protruding steel belts. I have already filed a complaint with firestone, but have not had any return contact. It has been a month since i first contacted them. I took the tires to a dealer and was told that they were defective but the only thing that they could do was to prorate them. I told them that this was unacceptable since they were doing the same thing as the recalled tires. These tires are still in my posession if you need proof that there are more problems out there than just the tires on recall. Thank you , regards, joel walton( dot number: tire size: p245/75/16 )

Tire began making flapping noise at highway speeds, pressures checked and ok.tire appears out of round, and unsafe.car has only been driven about 50-75 miles.live in rural area and closest dealer is 84 miles one way, since other dealer closed.awaiting outcome of nhtsa investigation but will need to replace these tires. Accident is in litigation; two experts have examined the tire and determined that separation caused by a manufacturing defect. Bridgestone/firestone has i.d. The tire as manufactured 7th week of 1996 in decateur factory; the is no issue of under or over inflation. The goodyear tracker tires (p245/75r16) experienced severe vibration, 3 of the tires were replaced because of the vibration and signs of tread separation, another tire experienced tread separation while the consumer was driving and caused the vehicle to sustain damage, the consumer is requesting reimbursement.

Tread separated from rest of tire without warning. Tread damaged vehicle by slapping body, wheelwell, and heater hoses. Fortunately there were no injuries, but vehicle swerved uncontrollably off of the pavement, frightening my wife and i. I shipped the defective tire to firestone bfts in nashville and they paid me for the tire and repairs to the vehicle. I also had tread separation occur on my truck also equipped with firestone steeltex radials, and i hereby request that ntsb require firestone to recall all firestone steeltex radial tires. Pe00 020; consumerwas traveling about 60mph onhighway and heard a banging noise, right rear tire treadseparated. Tire exploded, and rubber was flying all over road. Firestone bridgestone #at.there was no injuries, andconsumer will call firestone.

Tread completely separated from rest of tire causing damage to right rear of vehicle.tire has been sent to firestone for "inspection" & they determined there were no defects.i would like to have another opinion as to what the cause of the tire failure was.i would also like to know more details on pe 00040 on these specific tires.i notice that the pe was closed april 2002 but i have not found any details on the investigation of these tires.

Vehicle has a broken trailer hitch and attachments.two dot investigators shipped it to washingtonto examine it.consumerdid notremember investigators' names.

Vehicle's windshield wipers only work on high speed.*mr the mechanic replaced wiper module assembly.*ph

I have taken my vehicle to anaheim hills gmc under factory warranty and told them about my wipers working intermitently or not working at all.the wipers only failed to operate once for me at this time. The dealership said that the wipers were working fine that day they tested and theres nothing they can do, especially since my vin wasn't listed on therecall.it's been almost a year now and the problem has increased in severity and frequency.i can't see out of my windshield many times and have to pull over to clean it manually.sometimes the wipers don't stop working even in the off position so my wiper blades are getting tore up on a dry windshield.the washer feature only works 10% of the time. I am having the exact same problem that the campaign recall covers.i am told by gmc customer service that they can't do anything because of the recall not including my vin #.bologna, nhtsa has better sources of tracking this and they say that approx. 1,557,583 vehicles are affected. Gmc tells me about 100,000 vin's are affected.these #'s aren't even remotely close.this is a major safety issue and should be addressed immediately.injuries or deaths are possible from poor vision in a rain or snow condition.let's not have another firestone situation on our hands. Gmc must step up to claim responsibility and take care of the consumer in this safety issue.

Nhtsa recall# 98 v 150 001/ manufacturers recall 98043 concerning windsheild wiper wiring, windshield wipers worked intermittently. Dealer / manufacturer were notified, and both informed consumer that this vehicle was not covered under recall due to vin.

Windshield wipers not working properly, windshield wipers will intermittently shut off. Contacted dealer and dealer stated that this vehicle was not part of recall due to vin.

Winshield wiper failed, causing poor visibility.

Windshield wiper failure.windshield wipers use to work at different times, but just this past june, they stopped and would not work at all. Concerning a safety recall #98v150001.the windshield wipers work periodically.(not when consumer needs them)consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the recall didn't pertain to this vehicle.*scc

Intermittentlywindshield wipers quit working in the middle of operation, and sometimes the windshieldwipers will not come on at all.the problem was reported to the dealership. The problem has not been corrected.please provide any further details.

Repair is not covered under mfg campaign #98043. Vehicle mfg date is 7/96.

Windshield wipers function intermittently.wipers work for several minutes and then stop for varying periods of time.some days they don't work at all.local dealer was unaware of any recalls regarding the wipers. Gmc home office stated that my vehicle was not covered under campaign id number 98v150000, since my vehicle was assembled at a different plant than the affected vehicles in the recall notice.the wipers don't work reliably enough to travel in inclement weather.sudden rainstorms can cause loss of forward visibility for extended periods of time.major accidents have been averted so far, but it is a major concern for my family's safety.thanks.

98 v 150 00/windshield wiper wiring: wipers to work intermittently, can result in inoperative wipers , reducing a driver's visibility and increasingrisk of a vehicle crash. Dealer/mfr's was notified and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered underrecall due to vin.provide any further information.

Intermittently windshield wipers will become inoperable, obstructing the view of the driver.a recall has been issued on the vehicle's make and model; however, this vehicle is not included due to the vin.dealer has repairedwindshield wipers at the owner's expense.

Intermittentlywindshield wipers become inoperable.a recall has been issued on various makes and models ; however, this vehicle was not included. The dealer has been notified. * ak

This vehicle was having the same problem withwindshield wiper wiringas mentioned in recall # 98-v-150-001.but this vehicle was not included in recall due to vin.

Windshield wipers work intermittently due to cracks withinsolder joint. Vehicle not included in recall 98v150001 due to vin.consumer states there is a buzzing noise when turned on.

When traveling in bad weather condition and when windshield wipers are needed, the wipers will stop working and start up on their own, resulting in poor visiblity. Please provide any further details.

Recall component wiper motor circuit board pulse module failed, consumer unable to receive recall work and had to purchase part.

Windshield wipers will quit working during operation, causing poor visibility due to circuit board failure.

Windshield wipers failed while passing a semi in a rainstorm. We nearly crashed. Cars were going everywhere to get out of my way because i couldn't see. Upon return home i checked nhtsa's web site and found that there had been a recall on suburban wipers 3 years ago. I was never notified and i'm the original owner. My wife bought a used 1996 blazer and was notified about the wipers on that vehicle. I never connected the two until we nearly crashed. It's happened once since. I'm calling my dealer today for an appointment. It upsets me that my wife and grandchildren flirted with injury or death because we weren't notified of this problem.
