April 26, 1996 original equipment battery failed, was replaced at superior pontiac, san antonio texas with a ac delcopart1981590. On july 30,1997 the abs light on dash came on. Result of "acidfrom battery leaked onto speed sensor, shorting it out."had to have wiring and connectors, repairs to anti lock braking system, cables and paint replaced. I have all dealer paperwork that says all this in print. Was wittness to phone call at dealership about this samething ahppening on mini van. Service manager said that ac delco has a big problem with leaking batteries and they refuse to take responsibility for it.
Battery cable replaced due to vehicle not starting.
The battery is leaking onto the brake lines which could cause total brake failure.please give any further details.
Engine often stallsat random which almost caused an accident.tt
For the last three years going to the beach, aftertwo hours on the road the engine shuts down. Like you would just turn the ignition off!!!wait a couple of minutes and it starts right back up.i just found on thecomplaints database search the very sameproblem that i have. It is odi id:805983and yes i am concernedthat i'm going to get run over on the interstate!!!if gmc can't fix the problem, whenshould i have my lawyer file a suit? right away???thank you very much, mr. Computer is causing vehicle to change gears. The dealer has reprogrammed the computer once, but defect is still occurring.
Electronic control module problems.
Loose ground cable, causing starter to fail.
Harness/tcc solenoid replaced due to shorting out.
1994 gmc suburban. When brake light switch fails, the cruise control will not be shutoff by hitting brakes. If switch fails, hitting brakes will slow vechile, but cruise control will give it more gas. Date of initial accident is approximate since i do not have papers with me. Switch has failed twice since that and was failed after the accident.
Front wiper motor stalled during rainstorm, travelling 55mph on major highway.wiper and wiper fluid motor quit unexpectedly while in operation or while stopped.sometimes a buzzing sound occurs with the failure.i discovered that i can tap the wiper motor module and the wiper motor may begin again, but its work will be shortlived. Another problem i encountered with this vehicle was a meltdown and small fire under the driverside dash.the rocker switch that controls the dome light has an "auto" and an "off"position. While in "auto" for about 1 hour with the doors open, i noticed smoke coming from underneath the dash and the rocker switch had melted down due to excessive heat building up in the contact.i contacted the local dealer when i purchased a replacement switch who commented that these switches were a problem.
When putting on brakes the brake pedal goes down to the floor andhears a grinding noise, and the the truck will eventually stop.rear air conditioner control knobs will not stay attached to the control, dealer replaced the knob air conditioner does not blow cold at an idle.both front axle seals were leaking out fluid from the left front axle, dealer replaced both seals and right axle.oil pressure gauge dips down into the red at an idle.temperature gauges reads hot.
Consumerwas traveling 55mph on andvehicle started overheating without prior warning. Temperature gauge was still in normal stage, andvehicle just shut off. A tow driverwas calledout to jump start vehicle, and forfirst thirty minutes itwas okay.then, temperature gauges went up,andvehicle had to be towedto a shop. Mechanic toldconsumer thatcrankshaft broke.
The engine seems to run too hot lately. I've replaced the thermostat & flushed sys. W/ no improvement. Wipers stopped working w/o reason and washer motor doesn't dispense water properly.only 1 rear door window defrosts and only partially. I've cleaned contacts w/ no results. Rear drivers side window power doesn't work.used to work off and on, because of irregularity window it's left up at all times.

When applying the brakes there is no brake action, have hydraulic brakes . The only action that the dealer takes is bleeding brakes and master cylinder to remove air from the brake liines, however this does not remedy the problem, consumer has to pump brakes to get them to work.transmssion slow to engage, dealer found actuator feed limit valve sticking.rear blower on ac gave nothing, dealer repaired wire to blower motor.repaired wiring to faulty taillamp assembly.
Recievers have cracks on both sides where reciever bolts to frame.consumer has had cracks welded.

Diesel k2500 suburban.injection pump suffered a problem with intermittent fuel cutout.solution was replacement of injection pump.repeated dealer attempts to diagnose exact problem was not successful.seat mount failed.this caused seat to tilt on base & torque remaining mounts.the wiper motor cut out at random.gm acknowledges this problem for other models, but not for mine.this would cause failure of motor functions (in my case, the wiper would not start if parked, but would start if pulled out of park position). Brakes are the most interesting problem.while there may indeed be a problem with pedal suddenly going to the floor i think the actual situation in most of those cases may actually be as follows.i had to brake fairly hard in unexpected traffic, and the antilock brake system fired.i was moving not faster than about 50 mph at the time, but it took (measured) 642 feet to stop the vehicle.at no time did i release the antilock system before the vehicle stopped.during this time, i was able to steer quite successfully around two stopped vehicles, and to run up on a grassy shoulder and back onto the pavement.i had the front brakes relined and trued, and the fluid flushed and replaced, at a local shop shortly after purchasing the vehicle used (with about 56,000 miles).apparently, gm knows that it is necessary to cycle the antilock motor so that all the pistons are at the right position before bleeding the brakes.if the brakes are bled with the motor not centered, the effect is that full modulation of the brakes does not occur, for some or all wheels, when the antilock system fires.however, the dump-valve function relieves all brake pressure while the motor is running.the result is that only partial brake application is effectively being made -- this might be almost any arbitrary percentage of a 'normal' full brake application --and this may greatly reduce the amount of deceleration seen in critical situations.
Carburetor rebuilt due to idling problems.
The fuel pumplocked up. Dealer has replaced the fuel pump.
Had failure of both rear brake lines and fuel delivery lines/sending unit due to heavily rusted/ruptured metal lines.fortunately, the failures were observed in my driveway, leaking brake fluid and gasoline.the vehicle required towing to the local mechanics garage.total cost of repair (all rusted lines and fuel sending unit) at local garage was $875.00.
While driving at various speeds diesel engine will stall intermittently due to defective electronic fuel injection pump.this causes loss of power steering and power brakes. Pump has been replaced 3 times with the same design pumpevery 2 1/2 years.
Intermittent stalling due to defective fuel injection system.

Vehicle downshifts drastically, locks in a low gear and will not shift, abs comes on prematurely, and the cruise control will not work.
Automatic transmission failure.
Dt a recallwasissued on automatic transmissioncooling unit and lines, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin although it had the same failure as mentioned in the recall. Contacted gm,and they confirmed that recall did not include this vehicle.
The vehicle was running in park.four year old son was climbing over the driver to get in, and accidentally knocked the gear shift lever into reverse.contacted manufacture.this has happened before.
Right front axle seal replaced due to fluid leak and pulling to the right when braking.

Tire tred stripped and bulging, causing damage to other components.
Bad noise developed and got worse in the 2 wheel drive/4 wheel drive transfer case, notice there was a recall on the transfer case.
Both front seat belts do not cinch occupants.belts are currently fully extended and lay limp over occupant shoulder.symptoms mimic seatbelt problem experienced with my 1984 camaro previously owned which was recalled for that condition.dealer contacted for replacement states gm's position on this is that vehicle is out of warranty and my financial responsibility.unknown at what mileage failure occured; vehicle purchased used from gmc dealership, questioned looseness & told at time of purchase condition normal, that belts sometimes do not cinch until jiggled, dealership refuses to replace.i am the 2nd owner of this well-maintained vehicle.

Drivers side seat stablizer has broken, causing seat to rock when driving. Dealer has been contacted.
The bolt that holds the seat in place on the seats left side snapped off. This made the seat back slip to the rear an inch while driving.this is possible safety hazzard . This could cause the driver to become startled causing a possible traffic accident.
I got into the suburbanto go to the store this morning, when i sat and reached to place the belt into the holder, the chair anchor snapped and i began having problems whenever stopping or accelerating.this problem leads me to believe that i may have a problem in the future whenever i need to brake fast or upon moving after being stopped as the seat rocks backwards. Now i have contacted the manufacture as to recall with no assist.i believe this to be a hazard in the seat itself.thank you. ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis***739541

The drivers seat is a power seat and the seat just breaks off the bolts and the seat is not stable.ttconsumer states seats have been worked on/replaced on 5 occasions, however seat still fails.
Anti lock brake failure.
Brakes failed completely first occurance.partially failed, very hard stopping standing on brake pedal four subsequent occurances. I drive very carefully, braking long before i normally would since first occurance. This was a sizable investment. I would like at least the same braking confidence i experience in my 1940 la salle.please help. To date there has not been an accident.it is waiting to happen.thanks.
Although no accidents, i've had several close calls when anti-lock brakes activate on bumpy roads when coming to a stop.i've come within inches of hitting a car in front of me when braking on rough pavement.
The brakes failed on a wet rough surface.i did not have any brakes at all.this happened to my sonin 1994 and i took the vehicle back to the dealer for inspection, and they said the brakes were ok.this last time when i went back to the dealer i was advised that gmc knew there was a problem but gmc did not notify the dealer's how to fix the problem.i called gmc at 1-800-462-8782 and spoke to audrey pressley and kevin, file #99289962 to know satisfaction about repairing the brake system.this vehicle has been very well maintained by the local gmc dealer.when the brakes failed i was very lucky to avoid an accident.it seems that the brakes fail on a wet bumpy surface.the rest of the time they are ok.
The abs brake will disengage all brakes for a few seconds if breaking on any rough surface.this has caused near accidents.classic cheverolet checked the codes and break in february of this year.they found no codes and couln't get the brakes to fail.bp procare in richmond hts. Also couldn't find any problems.the brakes are fine a flat surfaces but on a surface which causes rapid bumps it will not stop the vehicle.as you apply the brakes with the bump the abs sounds like it is active but the vehicle does not stop or slow for a few seconds. Then they start to stop and work fairly well.i found this out on of the first days driving it.i came up to an intersection and the light changed so i should have stopped but couldn't and the vehicle went straight through without slowing.

Abs did not engage in emergency stopping.
Intermittent failure of abs to go on.no brakes when this happens.tt
Consumer had to make a panic stop, the brake pedal went to the floor of the vehicle, and the brakes resisted.the dealer has been notified.consumer states that the brake pedal was held all the way to the floor, and the vehicle gradually slowed, consumer states that the brake pedal was not pumped and the brakes did not make any noises.
Gm is recalling model years 1991-1996 suv and pick-ups for a problem with anti-lock brake systems. Apparently this recall does not include suburbans manufactured during the same years. However, i am without doubt that the same problem exists in these suburbans. On at least 5 occasions, my suburban's brakes have failed when the vehicle moved from a surface with good traction to one with poor traction then back to good traction. Each time, the stopping distance was greatly extended, resulting in my vehicle proceeding through intersections (stop signs). Fortunately, in no case was oncoming traffic present or an accident would have resulted. Repeated inspections of the brakes (but not the sensor switch, i presume) reveals no problems, but as an experienced driver i know the problem is very real. I highly recommend this recall be extended to suburbans. The conditions created by the antilock brake sensor switch are very dangerous. I plan to have this switch changed as soon as possible.
When driving on a bumpy road orhitting a bumpwhile braking atsame time, brakes would not respond. Consumer had rear endedanother vehicle because of this problem.
The truck has abs brakes. When road was wet the brakes would not stop at all. Tt brakes failed to stop.
When applying the abs brakes, the pedal went to the floor and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle, causing an accident.
Consumerwaiting at the intersection for light to change she appliedbrakes and the brakes didn't hold, and ran into the back of another vehicle. Dealer stated abs systemwasn't operable.
The anti lock brakes havefailed on more than 30 occasions since the gmc 1500 surburban was purchased new.ailures are sporatic.in several instances the vehical went through intersections due to the brakes not activating despite applying normal brake pressure. The dealer has inspected the brakes on several occasions since new and has not been able to discover the cause of the problem. Gmc haas been contacted several times but denys any issue with the brakes. The front drivers side and passenger side seat belts failed at with approximately 55,000 an 75,000 miles on the vehical respectivly.the spring /reel mechanismappeared to be broken in both instances causing the reel locking mechanism not to engage and allowing the seat belt to have slackduring any driving situation eg seat belts would not tension during stopping or at rest.
While accelerating from a stop light a vehicle traveling from the opposite direction turned in front of my vehicle.i applied the brakes in a panic stop, probably the first time since the vehicle was new.the brakes immediately released and i coasted into the intersection.i swerved to miss the oncoming vehicle and did just miss it.since this incident the brake warning light has been steady on.i have disconnected the electrical connection at the anti-lock brake module.a general motors mechanic has pulled the codes and says that the anti-lock brake system has completely failed.i plan to go to a gmc dealer this month and complain until i get some satisfaction.the first time i needed my anti-lock brakes to function they failed.this is totally unaceptable. I see from this web site that there have been numerour complaints about the brakes on suburbans and wonder why there has never been a recall.
Due to brake failure vehicle knocked child down and ran over his arm.tt
When brake pedal is applied there is a delayed response.brakes will grab/ release, and, grab again. Deaeler has been contacted.

I feel that my abs take a very long distance to stop my vehicle even at 25 mph, at which speed i had to swerved to avoid the vehicle in front of me. I e-mailed to gmc who told me that they where sorry about my problem and to bring my truck to a dealership to have it checked.i brought my vehicle to two different dealerships and their response was that my abs are working, i know that there was a recall on some other vehicle from gmc that describe exactely what i am feeling with my suburban.do you have any complaint from other owners of suburban? i talked to a few of them in my area and their response was that none of them like the way their abs work.
On two(2) separate occassions, emergency application of the brakes at approximately 45 mph, failed to slow vehicle. In both cases, the pedal did go "hard"but the vehicle continued to travel as if the brakes had not been applied. In the first instance that occurred in 1997, i was able to steer around a car that had stopped suddenly in the lane in front of me and avoided a collison. Following the incident, i was unable to duplicate the failure after repeated tries. The second occasion occured in feb. 1999 when my wife travelling at 45 mph was unable to stop for a vehicle that turned in front of her at an innersection striking the crossing vehicle in the passenger side. Although the other driver was cited for the accident, my wife reported to me the same conditions that i had experienced previously and had not told her about. She refused to drive the vehicle for several months and only after i had taken the vehicle to the dealer and was told there was nothing wrong with it. I have been a licensed driver for over 35 years and have owned and driven many vehicles with and without antilock brakes. There is a problem with the brakes on this vehicle that has been experienced by other owners of similar vehicles i have spoken to over the years.
On wet pavement when brakes are applied the vehicle slides and the brakes resist. On numerous occasions the vehicle has been to the dealer for repairs.

Anti-lock brake failures, causing brakes to fade.*skd
Brakes fail continually resulting in lock up.
Non-repeatable, intermittent failure of abs reduces braking performance significantly to the point of loss of control
Abs pump replace due to leaking/brake failures. *sd
While braking on slick roads, vehicle starts to skid, loses all power to brakes. Starts to skip, power does not come back until all pressure is off brakes. Dealer said that is how it suppose to work.
The abs brakes locked up, vehicle often pulled to the right, almost causinga near accident. Also, replacedbrake pads/calipers.ea95-026.

Driving along when i noticed that abs brakes had failed without prior warning.tt
Original problem braking caused me to go into a cemetery (luckily to my knowledge the only thing that i hit was a curb which i went over on a diagonal)thru ongoing traffic luckily no one was injured but this may have caused the 2 wheels by centerline to fracture which later became apparent at different times. It is also possible that the 2 wheels were simply defective to start and decided to let go at different times. I surley would like to know if the wheels were defective from the get go.
I have reported this recurring abs failure before. While i see that a recall has been issued for many chevrolet and gm trucks,, i do not see my vehicle listed. Why?

I drove a gm product for over 20 years, before owning this machine, that weighed the same as this one, had the same size tires and type(factory reccommended) as my suburban and i never freewheeled through any red lights or hit anyone! it is very scary driving this machine.if the anti-lock brakes are so good then why are they automatically disconnected when in 4 wheel drive?i thought off road conditions and snow and ice(where 4 wheel drive is necessary) is where you would want the superior brakes?

The antilock brakes on my 1994 gmc suburban perform very poorly on wet pavement. The stopping distance is increased greatly and has led to one accident. Several other times increased stopping distances has led to near accidents. This has caused us to operate the vehicle very cautiously in wet weather. The accident was on wet pavement. When the brakes were applied the pedal began to pulsate and then went clear to the floor, yet the vehicle acted as though the brakes had released. Braking action was almost gone causing us to slide into the rear of another unit. There was sufficient distance to stop had the brakes not release the braking action.

Both front tires failed in about 10000 miles after installation.the tires both lost their integrity and bulged enough to produce a severe shimmy making the car hard to steer.no blowout or tread seperation occurred, but the tires were replaced without hesitation by a bridgestone dealer.is there a problem with these tires?( dot number: 691q tire size: lt245/75r1 )
Pe00 020; consumer noticed that all four tires had cracks and white lines going though the tires.he has contacted firestone.firestone steel tex, r 4s 16 inches, no injuries.
Even though i purchased the vehicle used, it only had 245 miles on it at the time & was purchased from a gm dealer. Of the 4 original tires on the ground, i've had to replace two because of irregular wear & the inability to balance or eliminate vibrations from the tires. Such wear patterns are usually indicative of separated or broken belts. When i complained to the dealer they offered no adjustment. Now the last two of the original 4 tires that came with the vehicle are exhibiting the same types of wear patterns. One of the failed tires was turned into the dealer a year or so ago when i purchased a new tire. I'm still using one of the failed tires as a spare, so i have 3 of the original 4 tires. We were traveling home from st. Louis on father day, june 25, 1999, when we had a blow out on the left rear tire.the tire blew off and back perhaps hitting the trailer tires causing them to break friction with the road.the whole shebang started sliding sideways down the road and we ended up in the ditch headed south when we had been headed north.when the trailer tipped over it took the gmc with it.we were not injured.at that time we did not contact cooper tires.but when we went to pickup the gmc in springfield and return home stopping in mclean, we had another blowout this time on the rear passenger tire.we were going somewhat slower (fear slowed us to 45 or 50mph).this time the tire didnt come all the way off but damaged the just repaired fender and bumper and underneath of the gmc. Thats when we called cooper tires.they paid for the last repairs and replaced the 2 tires and rims.our insurance company chose not to pursue subregation against the tire company for the 1st accident. Just thought that what is going on with the firestone tires is just too similar to what happened to us.we have heard of others who have had similar problems with tires.if you need anyother information please contact us.harry & cynthia zillion.( dot number: tire size: l245/75r16 )

Paint flaking. I showed it to service dept, they said gm would not repair

Right rear window shattered because they were deep tint with solar ray.
Wiper motor woule stop randomly at any speed, temperature, weather condition, but less likely in extreme cold.wiper would stop during a rain storm , on a narrow freeway, late at night.replace motor to no avail, after considerable dissasemble and re-building attempts;found it to be a ground problem, a seperate ground from the motor housing to the vehicle body.the rubber mounting to reduce the noise and vibration to the passenger interfered with the ground.it was random and depended upon the motion of the motor rocking on the rubber feet to open or close the circuit.solution to move positive way to ensure the ground is always established, regardless of the motion of the motor.

Thier is a recall on the 94 suburban (#98043) that describes the exact problem that i am having. Gmc states that my vin # is not part of the recall, but they also cannot tell me the month of manufacturing.i find this alfullly convient for a company to have a recall, you as a consumer put your lives in danger every time it rains andwindshield wipers quit, being unable to get it fixed because they seem to work at the shop, and the car company stating that i know that your car was made in the same year as the recall/ that you are having the same trobles as in the recall/ but because we didn't include your vin# in the recall, you are not part of it. My 1994 gmc was said to be coverd under recall 98v15001, then the dealer said it was not (according to his computer).some 94 vehicles are covered, and mine was not--this is the exact same part causing the problem for the recall, and i had to pay $104.00 to replace an admittedly defective part.i could understand if the car was a year older, but cars in the same model year, made in the same plant, are not covered under the same recall.also, the computer for the recall information is different at gmc headquarters then at the dealer!they also were different on another recall (radiator cap).gm should accept responsibility for the defect and cover these costs.i have documentation of the part number involved and the costs and ask the nhtsa to intercede to correct this defect--my wipers failed while i was on a highway in a storm, just as the recall said they would and they should be covered.thanks, mike waters.
My vehicle has the exact same problem as the nhtsa recalls #98v150001 & #98v150000. I contacted gm and they told me my vehicle was not included in the recall.the existing nhsta recalls need to be expanded to included additional dates of vehicle manufacture or additional wiper circut boards.

Consumer feels lucky there were no cars coming. Took vehicle to dealer, and they daid it was the wheels.
While driving 40 mphand without warningleft rear wheel fell off due to bolts breaking off the wheel.
