Abs pulled when two of the tires on vehicle were not on the same type of road surface, causing vehicle to crash, during the accident, the airbags experienced no deployment, the service manager agreed that the abs was not functioning properly however the computer showed that none of the sensors failed.
While traveling at 65 mph the consumers vehicle was rear ended by another driver who was also traveling at 65.consumerstated that none of the vehicles air bags deployed.please provide any further information. *nlm
Our son was involved in a accident on 09/15/2013 where he was traveling north bound on soldiers home road in moraine ohio. His truck went of the right side of the road, when it did he accidentally hit the gas and not the brake. Truck then hit an electric pole as it picked up speed broke a tie rod in half. He then lost control as it flew across the street still increasing speed. At that time he hit 2 trees and a fire hydrant, then the truck spun and the rear wrapped around another tree. The airbags did not deploy either driver or passenger side. He was killed on impact and the passenger did survive.
Consumer was in an accident in which he hit a tree and the air bag experienced no deployment, consumer purchased vehicle due to it being equipped with the air bag and having a doctor's excuse not to wear a seat belt for physical reasons.
Vehicle was involved in frontal collision with a chevy full size pick-up at approximately 20-25 mph.both abs/air bags failed to operate/deploy. Vehicle left a skid mark of 20 feet or more.dealer/manufacturer were contacted.
I was involved in a rearend collision whith another car at 50-60 mph, the air bags failed to deploy. Difference in speed of vehicles was 15-20 mph.
Consumer was driving at approximately 40 mph when another vehicle suddenly pulled out in front , consumer hit vehicle with front end , and dual airbags did not deploy, causing injuries.there was no indication or warning of defective airbags system. Vehicle had $3,000-$5000 worth of damages ,and it was mostly likely totaled.
While driving at 35 mph another driver struck consumer head-on and none ofairbags deployed.
Front crash at 35 mph, neither airbag deployed, and$ 7800 damage to vehicle.
While driving at 35 mph another driver struck consumer head-on and none ofairbags deployed.
Consumerwas traveling 30mph, and uponmaking a turn onto a streetvehicle shut off without prior warning.he loststeering, and threwvehicle in park.vehicle stoppedabruptly. Consumer'shead went through the windshield. Driver's side airbag didn't deploy, anddriver side seatbelt didn't hold him at all.second incidentoccurred traveling about 65mph on highway, andvehicle shut down again. During both incidents abs braking light appeared ondashboard.dealershipwas aware of problem.
The trucks been handling fine and all of the sudden the oil pan blows out on the truck and i think it threw a rod. Which is not my fault a piece came apart or came out of the engine causing all that pressure to build up and mess it up. The vehicle was in motion not going over 60
Oil return lines fail prematurely causing oil to leak at the crimp sites on the hoses.ld return lines were replaced with new lines on 18 september 2004 with new lines general motors part numbers 15194578 and 15194579 purchased on 16 and 17 september 2004.
Consumer states in the winter time with a coat on, it is difficult to fasten the drivers seat belt, the steel end of the belt is bent too much toward the drivers hip, requiring the driver to push the belt toward the center of the vehicle so the other end of the belt can be inserted into the buckle, the local dealer refused to install a new belt because the replacement would be identical to the factory original.the consumer stated then engine oil drain plug was designed too small, it has a hexagon head. The socket or wrench slips on the plug head and damages the plug. The consumer had to drive to the dealer to have the plug removed. Updated
Consumer states the engine oil drain plug has a small hexagonal head, the socket or wrench slips on the plug head and damages the plug, consumer had the plug removed by the dealer and purchased a new plug and now consumer has to buy a 6 sided box end wrench, which is difficult to find, to assure it does not slip on the hexagonal head of the 15 mm plug.
External radiant heat source, replaced battery
While driving vehicle shutdown, there was no brakes or steering.consumer was on the higwayand could have caused an accident.
Consumer states oil cooler line went bad and engine has a rattle when it is cold, also the rocker arm makes a noise when it is hot.*ydthe rear differential pinion seal was bad. It was replaced, but there is still a bad growl coming from the rear end when the consumer accelerates. The left door rattled, the right upper door hinges bushings were bad, there was no grease on the front ball joints, the front actuator motor for the 4-wheel drive was replaced.
Grease type fluids leak out of front wheels.
The contact owns a 2000 gmc sonoma pickup. When the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the rear spare tire mounting cable broke without warning due to corrosion. An independent mechanic stated that the failure was a common issue with his model vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000 . The contact had significant concerns of a potential safety hazard.updated10/28/10 updated 11/01/10
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 30 mph on a country road with a boat trailer in tow, the spare tire mounting cable fractured which allowed the spare tire assembly to fall from under the vehicle and roll into the trailer without warning.the vehicle was pulled over without incident.the spare tire debris was collected and taken to the dealer for further inspection.the spare tire mounting was extremely corroded, but did not have a history of exposure to harsh winter weather or road salts.the dealer determined the corrosion caused the failure and a new mounting cable was needed.the manufacturer was alerted.updated 09/16/06.
Radio goes on and off, will turn on by itself, and sometimes could smell like a burningnot knowing where it is coming from. Also, headlights will blink on and off. Inside lights and radio flicker.the dealer diagnosed that there was suspension problem and the passenger sideheat source was inoperable.

While driving south o i-77 at about 10 pm, the headlights suddenly went off. Lights on this vehicle are automatic:ie, they go on when it gets dark.i was on a dark section of the interstate with no surronding traffic, which is probably a good thing because i had no idea where i was on the road.i was terrified but managed to come to a stop without running off the road. This is an extremely dangerous situation and could easily result in death or serious injury.i turned the lights back on manually, but the automatic system stayed off.the next day, the system seemed ok.i suspect a circuit breaker cut off, but the dealer said there was no way to check it and when i called gm consumer relations, they didn't seeminterested.i have since heard of the same problem on a one-week old chevy s-10, the same truck as the sonoma (different grill).how many more light system problems are out there?
While driving, headlights went out after being turned on. This causeddriver to have poor visibility. Been in contacted with dealership & failure could not be duplicated. The head lights go on outomatically at dusk and there is no way to turn it off. When the system failed, the lights suddenly went off while driving at 75 mph.possibly a circuit breaker kicked off killing all lights in vehicle.

The gas gauge does not work. It ia part of a fuel pump-gas gauge assembly located in the gas tank of my vehicle. The service advisor, at one of their shops in winston-salem, north carolina told me, in the fall of 2002, that there is no recall on this item so i need to get it replaced for two reasons.1) it needs to be repaired and2) the findings on previously vehicles with the same problem is that the wires connected to the gauges in the gas tank show excessive electrical scorching. Because the dealership would not repair it as 'covered under warranty'(truck had 39000 miles on it at the time of my first complaint) and because they wanted so much money($800) to fix it, i decided to take it elsewhere to see if the repair can be done at a more reasonable cost(to me).i have taken my truck to other repair shops since, and have been told the same story...the electric wires are overheating , burning excessively at the switch located in the gas tank.i have been advised several times to contact nhtsa and finally i have.my service advisor at firestone has told m that this fuel pump-gas gauge assembly fails on all gmc trucksthat they service for the stated reasons and that i should complain to you folk or continue to drive it using my 'trip meter' as m gas gauge.so here i am....thanks for helping me and /or trying to help me.a retired school teacher.tom.
Dt*:the consumer stated the fuel gauge suddenly stopped working in 2002.the dealership determined the fuel gauge and fuel pump need to be replaced. The manufacturer recommended the replacement of these components, based on other vehicles with the same problem; the wires could overheat and cause a fire in the gas tank.updated 02/07/06.
Dt:the consumer states that the fuel sending in the gas tank did not work properly, it does not show the proper level of gasoline in the gas tank.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and they confirmed that this was the problem with the vehicle.they said that the fuel sending unit and fuel systemneeded to be replaced.the manufacturer was contacted to see if they could do anything for the consumer since the mileage was out on the warranty and the manufacturer could not assist with the cost.this problem started on september 1, 2003.(11/17/05)the vehicle had run out of gas with the fuel gauge on 1/4 tank and on another occasion when the tank read 1/2 full.*sc
Fuel pump / sending unit stoped working. Unit was replaced by certified mechanic.the cost for the unit was $568.90 from bob maguire gm parts center.
While consumer was driving at 40 mphvehicle died out. Towed to dealer. Dealer noticed that fuel pump needed to be replaced. This will be the third time.
Gmc 2000 sonoma sls1)the third door plastic handle actuator snaps off. (once in 5 years).....i have always been very careful not to force the handle because a mechanic told me four years ago that the handles were already breaking on many customers. I bought the part at a gm dealership for $30 and installed it myself...not too tough if you are a "project person" with many tools. Took about one hour. The initial rod adjustment must have been bad because my install is now better functioning than the original.2)the metal rod of the recliner handle snaps in half. (once in 5 years)......this happened when a technician was working in the back cab space replacing my back window. I thought they did it on purpose to generate some paperwork. The guy swore to me that those handles have broken on them many times, and my passenger side will do the same shortly. They replaced it for free, but it took two hours and they had to take the whole seat apart. 3)the tailgate cables corrode and suddenly break in half. (twice in 5 years)......the first time it just snapped for no reason. The dealership replaced it free. Just one year later the new cable broke when i was pushing off a load...i almost tumbled off under the dropping load. They want $48 for the cable alone, which is riveted to a bracket. I am now out of warranty and refuse to pay that much or the labor. I am going to rig up my own replacement. Meanwhile, the existing cable is strained and the upper cable body attachment rod is bent. The tailgate was dented was the cables snapped.i conducted much research on the web on these issues, and found they are a common problem. Most people won't take the time to report them, though....so you need to estimate this and also demand gm's warranty and parts records. What is sad is that all three of these issues involve gmc literally trying to save petty nickles and dimes on material quality in critical function parts.
2000 gmc sonoma, third door and handle. Since i purchased the vehicle (used) and warranty expired i've noticed that the third door has always been difficult to open, not being familiar with it i assumed it was normal until the handle broke and you could not open the door since there is only one handle for it. I went to a local gmc dealership and purchased another handle assembly, asked about any recalls, or bulletins and was told there was nothing in their system, or gmc's, i searched the internet and found that i was not the first to have this problem, i also found a bulletin in a sonoma website/group online, contacted gmc and finally got them to research the bulletin # and was told "yes" there is a bulletin, it must have been lost in the system, then i was told i would have to take it back to the dealership where they would have to analyze what caused the handle to break at my expense, as frustrated as i was i went home and fixed it the best i could by following the bulletin, bottom line the bulletin states that the lock rods are improperly adjusted causing to much pressure on the handle, which in turn breaks the handle at any given time when trying to open it. What i have a problem with is if there is a bulletin out than this is obviously a reoccuring problem with the same outcome, yet they feel they still have to analyze what causes each handle to break?
I purchased my 2000 gmc sonoma this year and have had it for 1mo. And the third door handle has broken. I have read the other complaints on this problem and wondering if something is going to be done about it. Or is all the gmc sonoma buys just at a lost for every time the handle breaks. Does the company care at all. Shouldn't there be a recall on this problem. A metal handle counld probably fix the problem or make the door release easier to unlock.

I attempted to open my third door and the handle broke.
Gmc sonoma 2000third door latch broke so that door won't openback of drivers seat handle to adjust seat broke off so that the seat is in a tilt position and will not adjust.almost to a position of 50% back.
Tailgate cable (right side) snapped at point where cable bends. Appears to be rusted under plastic cover.
2000 gmc sonoma pickup. Tailgate was down while unloading groceries. Both cables holding tailgate up broke at same time allowing tailgate to drop on bumper.
The tailgate on my sonoma truck was in the open position, a piece of wood (so small it didn't even leave a dent) fell on the gate. The two cables which support the tailgate both snapped at the same time allowing the gate to fall straight down. After finding the info regarding the sierra trucks having this problem, you need to know it is the small trucks as well. The exact same replacement parts from gmc cost me approx $96.00, and i have to install them myself! very hazardous.
2000 gmc sonoma was being used to move into an apartment.the tailgate latch did not engage and the tailgate came open.the tailgate cable failed on one side.the tailgate dropped to the road and was dragged by the vehicle.the vehicle was stopped on noticing the sparks from metal on the concrete road surface and hearing the noise.the tailgate was damaged on the drivers side with metal and paint worn away.the tailgate was touch up painted to prevent rust.a gmc dealer was contacted but due the cost(over $100) the cable was not replaced and the truck has seen limited use for cargo.the cable is still installed on the truck and it is completed corroded at the point of failure and i do not trust the condition of the remaining cable.
Tailgate support cables 2000 gmc sonoma why not on reall with other gm trucks.mine broke within 5 days off each other.no weight at all.
I was sitting with my son on the tailgate of my gmc sonoma and both tailgate cables broke causing us to fall to the ground.i bruised my back but did not seek medical attention. After several calls to gmc, i was told that there was a recall but they have never contacted me since the date of the incident.
Dealer replaced twice the emergency brake while under warranty. However, problem still occurred and dealer refused to fix it.
While acceleratingtransmission will not stay in gear, it will slam on it.according to consumer, vehicle is not reliable enough to bedriven. Vehicle had not been replaced.
Consumerhad taken vehicle to dealer for check upand found out that transmission bolt had came apart fromtransmission support, and had to be repaired.
Transmission sometimes will accelerate without a prior warning, and sometimes will notwork while stepping onfuel pedal.the cause for the transmission malfunctioning was found to be the main bolt that holds transmission down which was loose.
Lower trans cooler line & trans fitting broke.
Car is unsafe - will pop out of gear or at times will idle and not move forward.
Passenger and driver seats in my 2000 gmc sonoma have seat positioning controls and locking mechanisims that do not always lock properly and/or get jammed up and have broken. A friend was sitting in the passenger seat and it failed to lock into place to keep it from sliding forward. I adjusted the bolts that fasten the seat to the floor of the vehicle to help 'realign' the seat frame so that the mechanism that keeps the seat from siding front and back would keep the seat locked into position once the seating distance is set. Also, the reclining handle on the passenger side broke off, not allowing for seat back support angle adjustment on the passenger side. The driver's side seat back support adjustment lever often 'sticks' or 'locks' into position....not allowing for seat back rest adjustment.rear differential sometimes locks up and or slips and shakes and makes noise...especially when sideways force is applied...such as when turning in a curve or circular fashion with the vehicle in motion. Both tailgate support cables broke on the truck. Front driver's side bearing had excess wear and had to be replaced at 65 000 km. Driver's side wiper arm got dislodged from the shaft that turns it and was knocked out of position on 2 occasions. Power steering fails for short intermittent periods when the vehicle is first started from a 'cold' and 'warm' state and the steering becomes stiffer and less responsive. Most noticable at slower vehicle speeds.

Passenger's side seat will not lock in place when stepping onaccelerator.seat will move. Consumer was concernedbecausethere wasno way to holdseat down.consumer never got work orders.
The front passenger seat will not stay locked in place, at any given time, the seat unlatches and slides back and forth, dealer has attempted to fix this problem several times, however can not remedy the problem.
While consumer was driving at 40 mphvehicle died out. Towed to dealer. Dealer noticed that fuel pump needed to be replaced. This will be the third time.
The passenger seat does not lock in place at all. Seat frame, and seat tracks replaced several times without any luck. I bought this truck as a certified gmc truck with 17k miles. The passenger seat would not lock from day 1. Dealer has no idea how to fix the problem. Afraid of possible injuries/fatalities to a passenger if involved in a collision. The seat slides all the way forward, and all the way back freely, and will not lock. When repairs have been attempted, the seat stays locked for an hour or so, or until it is adjusted any amount forward or reverse. In the 11 months of ownership, it has lost $6000 in blue book value, and so i owe more than it is worth. So i am stuck with a defective truck. My next vehicle is not going to be a gmc. This is not the only complaint for this problem to nhtsa, and the dealer admits there is a problem. Need a recall badly! help!
Windshield wiper delay is defective. Big oak pontiac/gmc in bartow, fl tried to repair and claims to have replaced the necessary component, but the repair was never effective. The problem is that the delay sometimes works, sometimes doesn't work at all and sometimes works but with erratic time intervals between wipes. The problem with the seat is the passenger seat does not lock in place after the seat has been tilted forward. ***** dimsiiivoq entry posted after 12/12/03 cut-over to artemis*****750084.
Driver and passenger seats do not lock into place. It slides freely back, and forward ontracks. Dealer has changed rails once, but problem was not solved.

My 4 year old grandson reached down to recline the passenger seat back and the handle sheared off in his hand.
I attempted to recline the drivers seat and the handle sheared off in my hand.

I had a near death accidents (twice)due to catastrophic brake line failure from severely rusted brake lines the front left and the intermediate line from front to rear section on top of frame rail.first incident was at speed of45 mph on highway with hard stop required to avoidstopped traffic ahead.second failure was more insidious with progressive brake linerust through/ leak spot to rear brake lines with fin through and failure. This is not complicated...simply substandard materials for one of the most critical components in a vehicle.it should not matter what conditions are (ie salt, cold, etc;design and materials should be mandated for brake lines not to rust through.there are materials which could be used to accomplish this, particularly for northern regions with salt on roads.the entire brke line system ison this vehilcle (and others) is an unnecessary and avoidable public safety hazard.surely there have been deaths resulting from failure, i was lucky and had tomaneuver stright through between 2 stopped vehicles as i had no other option with no brakes.also, all vehicles should be required to have handle operated parking/emergency brake levers , as the foot operated one in this vehicle was useless, but a pull type, hand operated brake handle would have been readily accessible and likely prevented near death incident.
Brake line failure on three different dates 2/12/2012. 9/18/2013. 3/6/14 still driving the truck should i be worried. Updated 3/18/2015
On 19 june 2013 i applied the brakes on a damp/wet road. Before coming to a complete stop i experienced a sort of hopping of the front end while going over a rough section of roadway. This sensation has occurred numerous times before and i was told it had something to do with the anti-locking brake system but nothing specific.
For the third time my brake line broke and lost all brakes in motion luck for me and my wife we were able to pull off the roadgoing to have it towed to a shop for repair again what is going on with gmc quality and safety.
While driving and without warning the brakes failed and caused an accident.*nlm
Abs system malfunction.code c0265.internet research indicates that this model year(2000) and other similar models and surrounding years have this failure.grounding failure to abs computer module resulting in the necessity to replace module.
Shortly after i purchased my 2000 gmc sonoma [xxx] i had a "low speed activation" of the abs. Some time later the brake warning light was activated. I took the truck to a gmc dealer and was told i had no problems, but they did replace the brake shoes. Ever since then the low speed activation would happen periodically. Recently, the problem has evolved to every day. And i believe this root problem is behind a lot of other brake problems i've had with this vehicle. Updated 07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
When applying brakes abs system activates too quickly, causing a collision to occur.please give any further details.
While consumer was driving at 40 mphvehicle died out. Towed to dealer. Dealer noticed that fuel pump needed to be replaced. This will be the third time.
Brake pedal almost goes to the floor causing extended stopping distance. Dealer has replaced master cyclinder which did not correct problem. Please provide further details.

Vehicle was involved in frontal collision with a chevy full size pick-up at approximately 20-25 mph.both abs/air bags failed to operate/deploy. Vehicle left a skid mark of 20 feet or more.dealer/manufacturer were contacted.
When traveling at highway speeds abs light comes on, andbrake light ondash blinks although brakes are not being applied.brake light will stop blinking if vehicle is slowed down, but the abs light will stay on untilkey is taken fromignition.dealer has seen vehicle 3-4 times, and can not fix it.
Maumee ohio accident report #004028.brake failure.extremely cold weather, ten degrees fahrenheit.bumper-to-bumper traffic rolling downhill to a light.both clutch and brake pedals were depressed with strong, steady foot pressure at 15-20 mph.abs pulsing activated. Vehicle gradually slowed to 10-15 mph.but, other vehicles came to a complete stop in the same distance.so, a rear-end collision occurred at 10-15 mph.it is reasonable to speculate thatthe road surface was frozen.but, no ice was observed by either driver or by law enforcement.and all of the other (heavy) traffic stopped without incident.this vehicle also exhibits degradation of braking performance on rough pavement;the abs kicks in with light brake pedal pressure at 15 mph even on dry pavement, so long as it is somewhat bumpy.
When driving at high speedabswarning light illuminates, indicating a malfunction within the system. Cause unknown.please give any further details.
Anti-lock system defective in strategy of operations.seems designed for icy roads and activates under the lightest of braking applicationson front wheels with 1-2 second recovery time (without brakes) with only slight pedal & slight wheel bounce. This happens with 1-2 passengers & about 75-100 pounds in truck ped (bed cover) on dry streets approaching intersection with ripples or potholes on one side with very light slow (grandpa style driving) light braking- front wheel senses the slightest lockup & deactivates brakes (1-2 second recovery time) & then reapplies.this has resulted in multiple times of leaving me in intersection with vehicles skidding to stop to keep from t-boning my vehicle. Have complained to dealership management, gm district field rep who tell me this stratedgy is normal. This stratedgy will get people killed if it hasn't already.they told me there is nothing they can do. This report is being made to hopefully force something to be done.i could do better job of preventing brake lock up using ancient mode of stab breaking if necessary but wouldn't need to under descibed scenario.
While traveling 35 mph and approaching a stop light tried to slow downand brakes did not respond . Vehicle did hit another vehicle, driver was only person in vehicle driver was wearing seatbelt. Accident did occur with injuries.
While driving 2 mph applied brakes, and pedal vibrated and went to the floor, no braking action. Vehicle hitgarage wall. No injuries. Please add further details.

Abs & emergency dash lightswill turn on/off intermittenly;no pattern as to when/how often.had gm dealer check it.my ebcm had ashort, if lights were on,had no abs, just hydraulic if lights were off.i have abs. Abs brakes failed to operate properly.
After depressingbrake pedal to make a stop brake pedal pulsated. This resulted inextended stopping distance.
When driving at freeway speed(70-75mph)/abs & regular brake system warning light comes on/i ask to fix it to my dealer management and gm customer assistance center many times but they said "we can,t".
Anti lock brakes are inoperable. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide furthr details.
My 2000 gmc sonoma pick up abs brakes activate on a daily base. Under 20 mph and on dry pavement. When they activate they pull to the left that the right. Did they use the wrong tires?
While trying to stop at slower speedspedal will go allway tofloor. Once pedal reachesfloor there is no brake function left. No accident or injuries have occurred.
Abs pulled when two of the tires on vehicle were not on the same type of road surface, causing vehicle to crash, during the accident, the airbags experienced no deployment, the service manager agreed that the abs was not functioning properly however the computer showed that none of the sensors failed.
While driving and applyingbrake pedal brake pedal nearly goes to the floorboard, causing extended stopping distance. Consumer has contacteddealer, dealer has replacedbrake master cylinder. But, problem still occurs. Please provide any further details.
My abs light began to come on while driving. I could hear the abs pump running but the module was not functioning.i pulled the fuse so it would stop running and i could get home.after taking it into auto service they determined it needs a electronic brake control module and has a kelsey & hayes anti-lock system.the work was quoted at over $700.they said it would be safe to drive but i have limited any driving with the truck since it valid.
Dealer stated that wheel was at risk of falling off, faulty driver and passenger wheel hubs caused brakes to fail, consumer has had to replace brake sensors and driver and passenger side wheel hub assemblies.

Since i got this vehicle on 9/26/00 i have had nothing but problems. When driving sometimes the security light would come on and flash, causing me to think it may shut down on the thruway leaving me terrified. Atleast 40 times i would get into this vehicle and it vehicle and it would not start, if left sit alone for 10-15 min. It would start no problem. Well i dont have 10 min to wait every time i need to go somewhere. The doors on the drivers side keep falling out of alignment, causing an untrue seal and allowing for water to leak in to the truck. This leak has caused the vehicle to reak of mildew on the inside , well this is a serious problem that nobody seems to want to deal with. I have chronic asthma and bad allergies which trigger attacks, the last time i picked it back up from supposedly being free from smell , it still reaked of mildew and i did not even get home from dealer before i started to weeze from asthma attack symptons. I called the 800 number for gmc 3 times and was told that the smell will go away after time and i would have to deal with it, i was also told this at the dealer. This was the 5th time i took in for the smell and miscelanous things, and i was told that the smell was never fixed because it was not noted on the bill the first 4 times, again not my problem. I could go on forever , but i will save it for the phone. I will tell you that in the last 3 weeks i have had my truck for 5 days, and it is going back to the dealer on 7/26 to fix the smell and repaint the door rocker that was scratched by the dealer when alignment of the door took place. Thank you for your attention and urgency , i am at my end with the dealership and need an allye?
After hearing of the dodge durango ball joint issue (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/10/27/eveningnews/main580233.shtml) i decided to write.i havea 2000 gmc sonoma.i have approximately 72,000 miles on the vehicle. My concern is with the front-end steering components.i have had to replace the idler arm three times already. Two of these times were in the last six months.also, i have had to replace portions of the tie-rods twice, as well as both front wheel hubs.i find this is to be a safety concern that needs to be addressed.i have talked to my dealer about the situation and they told me, "it's just the way to front-ends were designed."fortunately i have an extended warranty on the vehicle for parts and labor.unfortunately i do not have an extended warranty in terms of safety.i travel quite a bit with this vehicle, as one can see by the mileage.i wonder if other sonoma owners have experienced the same thing. I also wonder if gmc is aware of the problem.

While driving about 35mph, the spare tire fell from below my 2000 gmc sonoma. After stopping and safely getting out of the truck, i discovered that the cable holding the tire in place had broken allowing the spare tire to fall from the truck. Luckily, there was no one behind me at the time as the tire and wheel assembly bounced around and ended up in another lane. I returned the truck to a gm dealer and was told it was not a known safety issue. The repair was to replace the hoist at a cost of $287. It needs to be investigated.

Tailgate cables on 2000 gmc sonoma pickup truck have broken. Gmc/chevrolet has a recall on full-size trucks for broken defective cables. (my 2003 silverado was recalled and cables replaced n/c). While sitting on the tailgate of truck, both tailgate support cables broke.my tailgate has big dents where it came down on the bumper.
My 2000 gmc sonoma had the tailgate straps brake. When i took it in for repair i was told that although many other gmc trucks were recalled for this same problem that my truck was not included.
I seldom use the bed of my truck but while climbing up onto the tailgate of the pickup, both support cables broke causing damage to the exterior of the tailgate. I fortunately was not injured. Both cables appear to have rusted through at the center of the cable where the bend is. I removed the ends that clip onto the gate, but the other ends are still attached to it. I have not replaced the cables.
I was unloading dirt from back of my 2000 gmc sonoma pick-up truck when both of the tailgate cables broke, causing me to fall and scratch my leg and damaging the tailgate finish and hinge.as of now no repairs have been made.

While stepping onto the tailgate both support cables broke and cause the tailgate to drop completely. This condition causes the consumer to twist his right ankle when the tailgate drops unexpectedly.both support cables show sign of corrosion. The manufacturer was notified.
While climbing up into the bed of my 2000 gmc sonoma both of the tailgate cables on my truck failed sending me tumbling to the ground. I was not injured but there was damage to my tailgate. There is now a dent that runs the length of my tailgate where it came to rest on my rear bumper. Nothing has been done to correct the problem yet as i am trying to find out if the tailgate cable is covered by the 2004 recall of the same cables that are used in other gmc truck models.
While resting a power washer on the tailgate of my 2000 sonoma pickup to get a better grip both tailgate cables snapped causing the power washer to roll backwards, before we could react we only had time to soften the blow of the power washer hitting the ground causing minor damage to the handle. No visible damage to the tailgate and thank god no one was hurt, it's not easy trying to catch a 175 lb piece of machinery unexpectedly. It's quite evident that both of the tailgate cables failed due to corrosion as they both broke apart just about in the middle of the rubber coated cable.
My buddy and i lowered my tailgate on my 2000 gmc sonoma, after about a minute, both cables snapped in the exact same spot.it was obvious that the cables were rusted from the inside out.there were not any injuries, but now i can't use my tailgate for anything.i am also scared that it may be stolen, since the time it would take to steal it is now shortened.
Both of the support cables broke while lowering the tailgate. The dealer was not notified.

My 7 year old son was opening the tailgate on my sonoma when he dropped it. Both tailgate cables broke at the same time. Luckily he was not injured, but could have easily been. These cables appear to be in perfect condition except for the point at which they bend when the tailgate is shut. The coating had flaked off and the exposed steel cables had rusted through. The use of a better coating or stainless steel cables would have prevented this from happening.
While sitting on the tailgate both tailgate cables broke.there were no injuries.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that the tailgate cables needed to be replaced.*sc

While cleaning the bed of my 2000 sonoma out the left side tailgate strap failed midway on the cable.upon inspection of the right hand side i found apparent corrosion in the same location and the potential for failure.if both had failed it could have causedinjury, ordamage or loss of the tailgate.appears this is similar to failures and recalls of larger gm pickups recently.
Tailgate cables broke while i was sitting on the tailgate. Rusted through where the protective covering cracked from bending. Replaced with nos cables at my own expense as the dealer said the recall only included full sized trucks...?!!
Vehicle is 5 yrs old, not used for work, 2 nd tailgate cable/strap failure due to rusting of cable.no injury due to other side having been replaced 6 mos prior.new cable purchased and installed at owner expense.all parts saved and available because seems to be a material defect.

On 19 june 2013 i applied the brakes on a damp/wet road. Before coming to a complete stop i experienced a sort of hopping of the front end while going over a rough section of roadway. Vehicle had been taken twice for alignment to repair problem, but had not been corrected.

After several calls to gmc, i was told that there was a recall but they have never contacted me since the date of the incident.
The spare tire fell off my gmc sonoma while i was driving it.the cable in the spare tire hoist rusted into.
Twice in three years the accelarator cable broke, leaving us sitting in traffic.the first time was approx 3-4 weeks after we purchased the car from the dealer. The dealer claims that they have not had this problem before and will not cover/honor their own repairs from three years ago.we are having to pay for the cable repair and now feel that for a car with only 30k miles-this problem is dangerous and should be investigated.thank you.
The accelerator cable popped off of the accelerator pedal while driving in traffic, the engine immediately went to idle and the vehicle slowed to five miles an hour.people started blowing their horn at me as i attempted to find a spot to pull out of the traffic flow. This did occur at a relatively slow 20-25 miles per hour, if this were to happen on the highway or on an access ramp the resulting slowdown would most likely cause an accident. This is the fourth time this has occurred and i will not pay the dealer or general motors to fix what is obviously a design flaw.
On three separate occasions the accelerator cable that is connected to the gas pedal has come off the pedal. Each time this has happened i was in traffic and it is scary when the vehicle slows to 10 miles per hour as the engine drops to idle. The first time this happened it was daytime and i was able to get to a garage where the mechanic fixed it right away, he said this happens enough that he knew how to fix it easily. The second time it happened was at night and five miles from home, i was able to idle my way home (flatland) and fixed it myself in the morning.this time it was in the morning at the end of my street and i again was able to idle home and fix it. If this should occur on the interstate it could be very dangerous.
There is no non heatedfresh air that can come intovehicle while consumer is driving no matter whatconsumer does. Consumer had an accident in whichvehicle rear ended another vehicle at about 5 mph. Contacted dealer, anddealer really did not have a remedy forproblem. Air ventilator malfunctioned.
The ventilation system in the vehicle works at start up but about 20 min. Later the forced air flow stops, the motor still makes the sound as if it is still in operation but there is no air flow, fog build up on the windshield can not be cleared causing poor visibility.nlm
