The air bag light stays on.it turns off sometimes for about 5 minutes or fewer minutes. No repair shop can determine how to repair this issue. When the air bag light is on the air bag would not operate that's what i have read.is there a recall on the air bag light? or is there a fix for this issue?

When applying the abs brakes in a sudden stop, the brake failed to stop the vehicle, causing an accident in which the driver's side air bag did not deploy.

Upon impact, during frontal crash, at approx. 45mph, no braking, 12:30 on front bumper, airbag failed to deploy.

During a frontal impact accident at 35 mph, the driver's side air bag did not deploy.

Was driving at 25mph when another vehicle ran stop sign and struck the consumer, causing him to hit another vehicle. Air bag failed to deploy, resulting in an injury, dealer nofitied.

1996 gmac sonoma air bag sensor rivet failure. Found drivers side sensor hanging from electrical lead, when i inspected the mounting area i found that the two rivets that secure the sensor were sheared off. I inspected the other sensor mounting and found that one of the two rivets was also sheared off. No front end impact had occurred and no indications were noted.

The vehicle would stall out in middle of road. Its an intermittent problem, and it happens only in cold weather. Speed does not come into it. The mechanic, at dealership, could not find cause of stalling.

My engine has been surging, slow start, rattling, rough idle, hard shifting, and i have had the trasmission replaced 3 times.my dealer told me after an inspection that there was nothing wrong, but it was under warranty at the time.go figure!i have proof of the new trasmissions.now the compressor is cracked, and it will not hold coolant, and i can hardly get the truck going after sitting all night.these repairs are costing alot of money, and i am still paying for this truck.it is not worth the cost of repairs.

Valve seals on original/new engine seated improperly causing excessive oil use and engine misfire.valve seals replaced by dealer per gmc notice socmp96c17.two months later in january, 1997, valve seals #4 and #6 again failed with same symptoms but were replaced by dealer since failure took place within a year of original gmc notice.in 1999 same symptoms again showed up but when i took it to the dealer in june, 1999, they would not replace the seals because gmc said they were no longer covered.gmc dealer had assured me in january, 1997, that seals would be covered as long as i owned the vehicle.

They did something to the truck but the ticking stop until 36,000 miles and then my warranty was gone.i have replaced the timing chain tensioner 7 times since i bought the truck. I have had nothing but problem with this truck ever since my warranty had expired,the tensioner broke one time when i was on the highway,bent two valves,and a head job later still having problems. To me it looks like i may have bought a lemon.this may not be on all trucks but it sure has happen to mine. Its like the timing system does not line up. The vehicle experienced the same problem as stated in recall # 96v035000, however the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall.

The head rest on the truck is not adjustable, consumer is concern that if hit from the rear that his head will hit the rear window glass.nlm

Abs anti-brake system has failed.light continuously stays on.analysis has determined that three of the four sensors are bad.vehicle has only 40,000 miles on it.also analysis has determined that the catalictic converter is defective, causing the service engine soon "light" to be on continuously.

The brake system leaked fluid which caused extended stopping distance, the master cylinder was replaced, however the problem recurred.

This is an update to a previously submitted report for abs failure on this vehicle.the incident date on this report is approximate.the two wires to the right front abs sensor were severed by interference with the upper control arm and the disk brake back plate/splash shield, to which the wiring is attached with riveted metal clips.it appears that the wires became trapped between the upper control arm stamping and the hub and/or disk brake back plate/splash shield, possibly during turns that cycled the front suspension.the wiring insulation is worn in several locations other than the break point, and the first metal clip has been torn off the pop rivet that holds it to the backplate/splash shield. This is the second time this wiring has failed due to this design or installation defect.the first failure was repaired under warranty.no repairs have been performed at this time as we have been waiting for recall information from gm, which arrived recently, but it addressed an abs programming problem that affected braking on surfaces that transitioned from wet to dry and back.

Consumer expperienced numerous problems with the vehicle brake system ; onthree occasions consumer was in an accident due to brake failure to stop vehicle. Vehcle been in/out of dealer shop, and was informed that the problem can not be duplicated.

Around every 400 miles the brake pedal goes to the floor when the brakes are applied, and this is without warning. After a short period of time, the brakes begin to work properly again.the problem has not been found.

In snowey or rainey weather, antilock brakes pulsate irradically at various speeds (including 5 mph) when brakes are applied, even when no skid or hard breaking is occuring.braking when this occurs, which is intermittently, is poor and uneven.dealer and gm corp. The contact owns a 1996 gmc sonoma.while applying the brakes at 55 mph, the brake pedal extended all the way to the floor.the emergency brake was applied to stop the vehicle.the contact was a mechanic and he replaced the front brake line for the passenger side wheel.the failure was corrected temporarily.however, twenty miles later, the failure recurred while driving 30 mph.the brake line for the front driver side was replaced.the road conditions were normal during both failures.the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa recall number 97v146001 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings).the current mileage was 105,000 and failure mileage was 104,980.

Drivers side upper ball joint failed while driving.truck pulled immediately to the left, no oncoming vehicles.upon further inspection, by two seperate facilities, all ball joints (upper/lower/drivers side/passengers side) were found to be defective.these parts are lubercated (greased) 3-4 times a year, typically every other oil change.

Ball joints broke twice while driving.

Tires need to be balanced every 5,000 miles or they cup.

- the contact called concerning a service bulletinregarding windshield wiper washer motor.the bulletin has a product recall.the contact has been told by gmc that thecarwas not a part of the recall\ due to the vin.the contact stated that the windshield wipers work intermittently.the contact stated that the windshield wipers will either stay up in the air, won't work at all, or shut off by themselves.the last incident was on december 26, 2006.the contact stated that the problem with the windshield wipers began in july 2006.the contact called the dealer, and they gave her a service request no. 71-463971283,and then the dealer denied it.

Wipers will just stop working going down the road. The same problem as desrcibed in a gmc recall on same models. My truck was made the next month after the recall was stopped. I think the recall should have gone on further than it did compared to the number of people having the same exact problem as the recalled trucks.

Consumer stated vehicle is experiencingthe same problem with the windshield wipers as indicated in recall 98-v-15-001;but this vehicle not included in recall due to vin.

In cold weather the windshield wipers do not conform to windshield contour.driver's side approximately 40 % to 60% is ineffective, whereas on the passenger's side as much as 80 % is ineffective.ad to get off highway 3 times due to poor visibility.

Wiper motor circuit board malfunction.

Windshield wipers would work intermittenly after being turned on. Would stop with any warning. Also,humming noiseswould be coming fromwiper motor. Contacted both manufacturer & dealership. Indicated the circuit board needed to be replaced.

My windshield module went out and i was told that gmc had problems with their modules, i went on line and found out that the recall was stopped the prior year to my vehicle being built.i took it to my mechanic and the told me that even though the recall ended gmc still had severe problems with later model vehicle with the same wiper module defect. I called gmc and they could supply no explanation as to why the recall stopped even though the problems continued.thanksjohn miller.

The dealer said that my vehicle was not covered because my vin did not cover dates of manufacture. However my problem is exactly the one described in the recall notice. Gmc also said my vin was not covered under the recall.

Windshield wiper comes on and off intermittently while traveling in inclement weather.

Windshield wipers will function intermittently and sometimes not at all. Saw recall notice # 98v150001 on this web site but had never received a notice. Called gmc customer assistance and was told the recall did not apply to my vin.

Uponusing windshield wiperswhile it was raining they operated intermittently. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.

I called gmc and told them about the wiper motor problem, they said that my trucks' vin number was not part of the recall that had been done on other 1996 gmc sonomas of the same year.my truck has the same exact problem as the other 1.2 million recalled s10 & s15 trucks but gmc corp. Says that it is not related. ( nhtsa recall #98v150001)i feel that the recall needs to be expanded to cover trucks of the same year that have the same problem. The gmc recall is for trucks build from 8-94 to 5-96.the recall needs to be expanded because several vehicles have been left out.

Windshield wipers stop working intermittently due to a bad circut board. There is a recall for this problem, but this vehicle does not fall under the recall.

While driving andusingwindshield wipers they will quit without a warning. Some times wipers will never operte at all.

Windshield wiper motor works intermittently, electrical problem related to positioning of motor(electric). I was told by an autoparts dealer that they have had a lot of complaints of bad motors.i know of two friends with similar vehicels (chevy blazer and chevy s-10 truck) who have the exact same problem. Wipers will work fine sometimes and then just stop in mid-stroke. I was driving in rainy conditions when first occurred. I moved wiring and the wipers would cut on and off, i found that it is the wiper motor housing and not the wires. Wedged a stick between wiper motor and housing and they worked for a while.this is a common problem specifically to this style of vehicle and potentially a very hazardous one too. If all of the auto parts dealers are acknowledging this is true maybe something should be done about it before people are killed because of windshield wiper failure!

My vehicle is not covered by multiple recalls because it is not in the gmc list of vehicles per its vin number.this is, inspite of the fact that the exact same problem has been noted other sonoma recalls.this same problem has also been involved with the 1995-96 gmc jimmys of which the sonoma is virtually the same in the engine compartment.gmc as well as the dealer have refused to acknowledge that there is a problem with the windshield wiper system of this vehicle, even though information from this site was presented to both the gmc. Dealer and the gmc customer assistance center.i was told by the assistance center that i should have it fixed as if there is an accident now they are on record as stating that they recommended having it repaired.but they refused to include this vehicle in the general recall.

Windshield wiper motor sometimes fails to operate or continue to operate when switch is engaged.

Wheel lug nuts crossthreaded badly.
