The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the driver side air bag deployed when the vehicle was shut off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra.while making a left turn at 5 mph, another vehicle driving 60 mph crashed into the front driver side of his vehicle.the air bags failed to deploy.a police report was filed.the bumper, radiator, engine, and transmission were damaged.the vehicle was destroyed and towed.there were no injuries.the current and failure mileages were 9,000.
Within 4 months of purchase, was driving at approx. 25 mph when transfer case shifted into 4 high on it's own. Shut off vehicle, restart and able to put back into 2 wheel drive. Happened on and off for a little more than a month when it went to 4 lo while driving at 30 mph through town. Unable to reset. Limped it the 2 miles to dealership for diagnosis. Cost me $1200 to have the transfer case rebuilt. Smoked the clutch pack, burned out 2 bushings and bent shift shaft. Had second issue of shifting on it's own, may 15th, 2014. This time it cost me $500 for the shift motor to be replaced. Second problem, speedometer reading incorrectly or not at all. Been going on for about 3 years sporadically (apparently the little drive "motor" on the back of the instrument cluster, $300 replacement or, found a company to rebuild with new "motors" for under $200). Passlock issues started in jan 2014, has left me stranded a couple times now. Can't get a good answer from dealer as to how to repair other than "bring it in and we'll hook it to our diagnostic system" (i.e. Pay us lots of money). Also having issue with check engine light on constantly. Intermittent engine miss on multiple cylinders. Rough idle, crappy mileage, but not down on power. Miss seams to go away off idle and not noticeable under load. New plugs, wires, etc, etc, etc.... Haven't figured this one out yet. Same answer from dealer (pay us more money please). Lastly, air bag light came on in dec of 2012. Never crashed or bumped but had to replace left front air bag sensor. Love the truck, currently has 154000 miles but i'm getting frustrated with all the little electrical "glitches" and the dealer won't help a bit without the normal answer, "bring it in and we'll hook it to our diagnostic system".it's dang near $200 (diagnostic charge) just to get my truck in and out without even getting anything repaired!
Power steering stops working on slow right hand turns. I sometimes need to back up in order to complete the turn. I also end up crossing into oncoming lanes if no traffic is comeing towards me. If there is traffic i need to stop in the middle of the turn until the traffic clears.the "check airbag" light came on at 85000 miles after the battery discharged from the vehicle sitting to long without beingdriven.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the air bag sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 128,000 and the current mileage was 138,000.
Dt:the contact was drivingon the highway when another vehicle ranhis vehicleoff the road, resulting in an accident. The contact's vehiclewent over an embankment . Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained injuries. Updated 11/29/05.
- the contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra hybrid truck. Two weeks ago while driving at 5 mph the vehicle's steering wheel and the brakes locked.the contact was able to drift to a stop.the vehicle also vibrated, and made a whistling sound.after several attempts the contact was able to restart the vehicle.the vehicle's lost power at red lights; however, it restarted.the dealer stated that they didnot have the parts to repair the vehicle, they were also waiting for a technician to diagnose the vehicle.the vehicle has been at the dealere for three weeks. The dealer also stated they didn't know where the parts were coming from, yet they've ordered the parts.the contact was currently renting a vehicle. There were no warning indicator lights present at the time of the incident.two weeks prior to the failure, the contact's vehicle overheated and the warning indicator light appeared.the dealer replaced the water pump.the contact also spoke to gm and was told they would investigate the dealer.the contact thought there was a failure with the battery, it was defective and serviced under the warranty.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the speedometer would illuminate incorrectly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was 60,000.updated 2/25/13updated 03/11/2013
The instrument cluster panel on my 2005 gmc sierra pick up constantly reads the wrong speed. At times it registers 0 mph when im actually driving or it reads 120mph when stopped.also the oil pressure gauge is pegged out.there sames to be alot of complaints for the same thing on the year and model, you need to make gm do a recall on this.
My speedometer quit working around 78,000 miles. Slowly but surely all my other gauges have quit working over time. The rpm gauge, speedometer, oil temp, and gas gauge. Only one works now. The rest either don't work or fluctuate back and forth. I would have reported this earlier if i knew about this site. It's not the first complaint so there is something up with these models. They should be recalled and fixed by the dealers. I won't ever buy another gmc vehicle. That's for sure.
Oil pressure gauge stopped working.entire instrument cluster had to be replaced.$650.00.ridiculous.
The driver seat heater randomly turns on by itself.it randomly switches from the seat to the back of the seat to both at the same time, in no particular order.when i turn it off it just comes right back on again.i had the module in the door replaced one time, but it still does it.i live in the south, so it's extremely unbearable during the summer months.i will go for weeks at a time when it doesn't do it, but then it just seems to start again.there really does not seem to be anything in particular that triggers it.i thought maybe it was getting wet when it rains, but since i live in the south we have high humidity 95% of the time, so we have moisture problems here all the time.i can go for weeks that it doesn't happen, then it just starts up again.i have searched the problem on google and found that other people complain about the same problem with this particular model, but i can not find a safety recall issued by gmc.
My vehicle was parked in my driveway.i was walking down the driveway and thought the car was being stolen as it was starting.there was no one in the car.the car did start several times on its own so i disconnected the battery cable and had it serviced immediately.how long it had been doing this i do not know.i do know it had not been doing this on the previous day as i walk be there every day at least 2 times.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the wiring harness to the lower resistor melted, began smoking which caused the blow motor to malfunction. The manufacturer stated that since there were no recalls they are not obligated to repair the vehicle. The contact feels the safety risk can potentially cause a fire without warning. The current and failure mileages were 100,000. Updated 9/17/09 updated 09/21/09.
Speedometer stops working and goes below the o mph. This happens every day after around 15 miles or so of driving.
2005 gmc 2500 hd sierra 4x4 speedometer is stuck on 120mph and never reads below 70 head lights shut off for no reason while driving at night. Mileage odometer was moving 1 mile for ever 30 miles i drove now it went black all together auto seat adjustment is stuck and will not work right all dash lights are not working and everytime i unlock the truck the alarm goes off , i have to put the key in and turn it to stop the alarm.
2005 gmc sierra.consumer writes in regards to vehicle speedometer stopped working.
Speedometer and oil pressure gauge failure.... Speedometer stuck at 120 or o. Oil pressure gauge stuck to furthest possible level.
Speedometer is not working.it is sticking on 15 miles per hour or sometimes 60 miles per hour.cannot tell what speed i am going.
Speedometer does not work on my 2005 gmc sierra.
My speedometer recently malfunctioned at around 77,000 miles and i brought it to the attention of the dealership's service manager, jeff bevington, at rally gmc auto group in palmdale, ca (where i purchased the vehicle new in 2005). I was given service bulletin #07187c - special coverage adjustment instrument panel cluster gauge needle function (march 20, 2009), which indicates the following: this bulletin is being revised to include certain 2005 model year vehicles in the u.s. Additionally, for u.s. 2003-2005 model year vehicles, gm will provide the instrument panel cluster (ipc) only, at no charge to the customer for verified failures between 70,001 miles (110,001 km) and 80,000 miles (130,000 km). Any additional costs, including labor to replace the instrument panel cluster, will be the responsibility of the customer. Dealers will be responsible for the return of the customer's ipc back to the electronic service center. Please discard all copies of bulletin 01787b, issued september 2008.the vin breakouts of vehicles involved in the bulletin include 2005 gmc sierra between 51100001 and 51347001. However, jeff bevington told me that since my vehicle is older than 7 years and over 70,000 miles, it is not covered??? he suggested i call the gm toll free number (800) 222-1020 and ask if they can help. I called and spoke to dontes who told me that gm has no record of the service bulletin mentioned above???
Got into vehicle on 12/24/2011. When i started it, i noticed an odometer error. Still not working.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The speedometer displayedinaccurate readings.an authorized dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the malfunction.the failure mileage was 60,000.the current mileage was 90,000. The vehicle identification number was unavailable.
Speedometer does not return to zero when you stop if it goes down to 40 and you drive off doing 40 it reads 80.
When listening to the radio only in accessory mode for approx. 2-4 hours the battery is drained without warning to the point that the truck will not start, the onstar goes dead -we are unable to summon help if needed, and the radio goes completely dead. We have had the vehicle to the dealership and was given a bulliten from gm (document id# 1689523). General motors customer service is working with us, but the dealership claims that there is no way to fix the problem.the truck has approximately 3600 miles on the odometer, when purchased in june the truck had approximately 590 miles.
Heater /ac fan5 speed not working and wires to blower under pass side hotto the touch and plastic jacket on wires burning off also connector with same leads to blower melting to socket unable to unplug ( unable to use heat or fan without build of heat on wire) lots of burningsmell.
The blower motor would work and then not work and when it worked for a long period of time, smoke would come out from under the passenger dashboard. I removed the cardboard cover and saw smoke from the connection to the blower loter and the connection was hot to the touch so i pulled it off from the blower.
Crank vehicle turn corner , message engine power reduced, check engine light appeared, turn around return 200 feet to home, check all fluids connections turn off ignition, unable to start engine, let sit, unable to start engine, drive wife to work other vehicle, recheck all fluids connections, refill coolant, crank engine, coolant discharge on overflow line on cold engine, kill engine would not start,go to autozone get extra coolant and new gas cap.return coolant level ok. Install new gas cap, engine hard to crank like vapor lock or no fuel to engine.crank engine, let run, kill engine.unable to crank, return to work, return in 3 hours, reinstall old gas cap, check fluid levels, ok.crank engine let run for 5 minutes, check engine light still on,wait one hour, crank engine back to normal check engine light off, engine run ok, drive short test drive.unable to operate vehicle safely for 6-8 hour period, unsure if vapor lock, bad fuel, fuel filter, bad plugs, coil on plugs, loose plug wire, etc.never had any engine problems in the past.only instrument panel cluster failure, and steering click knock that was fixed by dealer.research problem on internet, it appears this is a throttle position sensor failure that gmc has identified as a safety problem and made a special extended coverage for 2008 to current year vehicles or ten years or 120000 miles. Fromresearch on computer, it appears tens of thousands of comments regarding this loss of power and engine stop.i am older man and reacted with caution and was near my home.had i been on a busy street or highway a crash or injury would most certainly occurred with this disabled vehicle the cause.i had never imagined this would happen to me nor had i heard of it from any media source or dealer memos.i am hesitant to drive any distance or on certain high traffic roads due to this problem recurring.
Truck was making a "knocking" noise upon start.took to dealership mechanic and informed, based on the noise and where it's coming from, it's most likely a cracked cylinder and informed this is "common."really??will cost thousands to repair ... Which i don't have.frustrating to say the least.it has low miles, serviced regularly.if this is "common" why won't gmc step up and take care of it??
Faulty castech heads are leaking coolant into engine oil. Gm is aware that the 5.3l v8 engines have faulty heads, and they refuse to place a recall to fix the problem. It is not right to not stand behind your product. The repair costs are in the $5000 range.
Engine has lose of engine coolant over time with no evidence of leaks found. We brought the truck to a gm dealer which told us this was a known defect issue. They provided us with bulletin # 06-06-01-019b document id 1986750 which clearly state this was defect in the casting of the castech heads. The cost with parts and labor is $3,100.00 dollars. Clearly, gm should cover this cost since this obviously is a known defect.searching the internet you can see a large number of people experiencing this issue with little or no help from gm.
Exhaust in passenger compartment. Service man informed me of broken bolts and that i must replace both manifolds before next inspection.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. While driving at approximately 60 mph, the engine suddenly increased in speed to approximately 10 mph. The contact stated that the display panel read "reduced power mode" and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred without warning. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where the throttle body wire harness, the throttle accelerator control module, and the accelerator pedal assembly were repaired. The repair failed to remedy the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 270,000.
Took vehicle in for new brakes and coolant leak.no complaint about brakes, but complaint about coolant leak.coolant leak issue is connected to gm tsb 06-06-01-019b and affects castech 706 cylinder heads. The coolant is leaking into the heads because of a known porosity issue. My engine will have to be replaced if the problem is not addressed because of glycol contamination.gm dealer said to just "keep an eye" on it. A second, independent mechanic, did confirm the coolant leak is not external and my engine will fail if the heads are not replaced. This appears to be a known issue with gm for manufacture years 2001-2006 on the vehicles with the 5.3l engine.
Dt:the engine has died, once while driving and once at a stop sign. The transmission was jumping and was put in neutral to steer to another lane. The other time there was no sign of a problem before engine stalled out. There has been many times this has been in the shop due to transmission problems. Have been with gm a few times and they came to the conclusion that they would send a representative to check out the truck. They never sent one, as of today, gm said that they didn't do that. Consumer wanted a buy back. Consumer talked to bbb today, they said that the consumer might be getting a call from gm.consumer had the vehicle in the shop 3 times, all due to transmission and engine related problems. Dealer has tried to fix problem 3 different times, but that is not working and has made condition worse than before.
05 duramax is running very warm and overheating while towing.four times we have towed and all four times the truck ran warm the last time the heads up display said engine over heating.this truck is rated to tow 16,000 + pounds and i'm towing around 15,500 and it can't do it without overheating the coolant and transmission.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated. The dealer stated that the failure was within the evaporation system and that the evaporation vent and filter needed to be changed. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000 and the current mileage was approximately 120,000.
Since we purchased the 2005 gmc sierra we have had problems with the radiator hose bursting within the first few months and having to have it towed.since then we have had several overheating problems.the dealer constantly says they can not find anything wrong.we insisted they change the thermostat on one of our times there = they replaced that and a hose.we came home and anti-freeze was leaking.we thought it may be they overfilled it.then it kept leaking and the truck overheated again 4th or 5th time.this was just driving home from about 10 miles.we had it towed in again and again were told they can find nothing wrong!!! we want answers to this problem.this truck is used for our business and in a year have had to have a new vehicle towed in 3-4 times and driven in.we want answers.we suggested they change the water pump after talking to another mechanic and they said they had problems with that in a different year truck, but have since fixed it.so instead they send you home and do nothing.
Extreme overheating of 3500 duramax while towing.loss of power and overheating of transmission and engine.numerous contacts with general motors and attorney general in michigan.gm acknowledges there is a problem but don't know what the problem is therefore no fix for the problem.are continuing to find a fix.we tow a 5th wheel in the colo. Mountains and this could lead to very serious problems if the engine should blow and we would have loss of steering and braking.
2005 gmc sierra slt vin [xxx] i drove the truck 237 miles home and noticed it was not operating properly.i called gmc to resolve the problems.the truck has binding in the front axles, brakes, or differential.this causes the truck to understeer heavily as the truck works to turn the front wheels over the road surface.this also makes the truck difficult to steer, u turns are especially a problem, the truck has sluggish acceleration and stays longer in the lower gears.the rear tires are prone to lose traction due to the increased rolling resistance from the front wheels, braking performance is compromised, the truck will sway back and forth at highway speeds as the rolling resistance of the front wheels varies from side to side.the truck tends to pull to the left, and the suspension is always preloaded from the additional stress.the engine labors to maintain speed on level ground with the vehicle unloaded.on occasion the front wheels will hop off the pavement as it is easier for them to compress the suspension/torsion bars than be turned over the road.it is difficult to maintain a straight line with the truck since the front wheels tend to follow the contours of the road.the front wheel assemblies make a low frequency sound when driving.the transmission, engine, and drivetrain components are always loaded and driving on snow or ice would be treacherous since the front wheels would stop turning on the low friction surface.driving in the rain is bad enough and the rear wheels tend to break loose.the transmission has behaved strangely, stuttering on occasion as it tried to find the proper gear, it has slipped or freewheeled as i went to accelerate from a stop.the wrong oil filter was installed, the air cleaner is loose and rattles in the engine compartment.the power steering provides little or no assist and requires more effort than i have ever experienced from a vehicle that is supposed to have power steering. Updated 07/17/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of
Vehicle has a very rough idle after warming up.when stopped for a light the vehicle stumbles so bad it causes the cab to shake.i took it to the dealership, they downloaded the computer and could find no defects.i was told that this was normal for this year group with the 5.3l engine.
Engine overheat, requiring pulling off to shoulder, no a/c for occupants of vehicle including two small children
Overheating of 2005 gmc duramax diesel engine while pulling small 5th wheel in mountains of colorado.this caused me to have to slow down to the point where i was a hazard to myself and others on the highways because of my vehicle causing a traffic obstruction.
Dt: the contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. The truck had a transmission leak.after five times trying to correct the problem he let the vehicle go back, and lost money on the truck when he traded it in. Hehad the receipts available. They replaced seals on the rear shaft and the rear shaft housing. He called gmc customer service they had a kit so they had to replace a bunch of seals in it. Three weeks later the vehicle was leaking again. The vehicle has been in the shop4 times for the same problem since the date of purchase whichwas november 15, 2004. Also, had problems with the cd player.they corrected theproblem by replacing the entire cd player.
The consumer found the direction in the owners manual on how to change the tire vague .while changing a flat tire using the jack which came as standard equipment on the vehicle, the jack slipped off the bracket and fell sideways.the consumer and his brother was injured in the process.the consumer believed the jack needed to be replaced with a larger based hydraulic jack.

I own a 2003 2500 hd 4x4, a wonderful vehicle it would be even more wonderful if i could find a dealer that would stand behind his product. My next car probably will not be gmc or chevy. I have owned the car since june of 2003. Due to the nature of my business i already have 98,000 miles. During that time i have complained about fuel mileage. The reports lie. Nobody will do anything about the fuel mileage. Because it can't get any better because they lied. I have lost a vaccume pump, and a left front wheel hub which had to be completely replaced. What prompted my complaint is that i have started developing a vibration at 77-83 mph. Dealer rep says you shouldn't be doing 80 mph. Therefore since our mechanics can't speed in your vehicle ( completely understandable) you don't have a vibration. Despite the fact that the vibration occours at 80mph i still have a vibration and just because it is against the law, ( 75 is about the norm on our highways), doesn't mean i don't have a vibration. My guess is that it is either another wheel hub, or something in the installationof the new vaccume pump. Because after they replaced that it ran good for awhile. The vibration is getting worse and i am at 97-98,000 miles. Vehicle is also starting to surge, but not all the time. From what i have read about the other complaints it could be the ac acting up. But since it wasn't surging this time, well if your a consumer reading this you know the story. I have told you all the bad. Now for some good.... The brake system on this car is beautiful i am still less than half all the way around. The brake system is perfectly tuned from front to back. I have hauled cars and trailors from time to time and the engine transmission and brakes all work together beautifully. Its the service i am complaining about.
Dt:2005 gmc sierra.the vehicle sprayed fuel out of it's gas tank. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership but there was no solution for the problem.the fuel did not stop pumping from the rear tank tot he front tank.the consumer was told not to put fuel in the rear tank, but the gauges did not work on the vehicle, and he did not know when the front tankwas full.this has always happened with the vehicle.he called the dealership 3 hours after purchasing it and told them of the problem.he has also called general motors and they know it was a problem, but they did not have asolutionfor it.while driving the vehicle sprayed diesel fuel all over a motorcyclist, soaking him in fuel.when the vehicle was takento dealer, they reach in and bend the flow out of the way, but it didnot fix it.
2005 gmc sierra z71.i am the original owner.this vehicle has 18k miles, yes 18 thousand original miles.this truck does not get beat on at all, no off road etc, and it has been well taken care of since new.there is a rust issue with these trucks.on 5-19-2014, on my way to thecar wash my brakes started to feel very soft and the truck was not stopping.i changed routes to my mechanics shop, and while en route lost the rear brakes.i thankfully arrived (driving very slowly) to the front of his shop.i got out and saw a puddle of brake fluid leaking out of the rear end brake lines rear lines were completely rusted.he inspected the vehicle, and as if this wasn't enough, informed that the transmissionlines were also leaking (rusted). Mechanic added that i should be prepared for the fuel lines to rust through next.this line replacement job will cost me about 2k.not to mention the issue with the lower rockers and cab corners rusting.that estimated is for another 2k.i purchased this truck to last me, and apparently gm does not build a quality product anymore.there a numerous complaints about this issue, and gm refuses to acknowledge the problem.very unhappy!

Issues with emissions switch. Check engine light will not go off. Also 3 and 4th gear are completely gone out. I do not tow or have had anything even remotely heavy in this truck. It's a 2005 gmc sierra with only 78,480 miles on it. I am not the only one having issues with this 4 speed transmission. It is not heavy duty enough for this size truck. Gm needs to recall all of these transmissions. When it first started slipping i lost all power going down the road at about 55mph. The vehicle that was behind me slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting me. This problem with the transmission is going to kill someone.
Front driver side and passenger side wheel bearings and abs sensors went bad. I have spoke to other owners of similar vehicles and they also had trouble.

Transmission makes a noise all the time. Brought in to the dealer 5 times in the past 7 months for the same problem.
Gmc sierra 1500 crew cab; hile driving at interstate speed, the driveshaftfell off the vehicle and shattered.there was substantial damage to the underside of the vehicle including muffler, yoke, heat shield & driveshaft.these parts were replaced with new manufacturer provided parts.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The contact stated. The shift lever position indicator located in the instrument panel cluster would not illuminate. The contact was able to locate a recall for the failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 05v055000- power train: manual transmission: shift pattern indicator) however, the dealer advised that the contact's vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 175,000. Updated 10/26/10. *ljupdated 10/26/10
Dt*:the contact stated the passenger's side seat belt tightens up very tight on the chest.the dealer and manufacturer were alerted about the problem.
Driver seat heater turns on by itself creating an extremely unsafe driving condition in the summertime in high density traffic with sun glare a problem and an inability to effectively turn the seat heater off.this problem has been reviewed both by the local chevrolet and gmc dealers with the ultimate corrective action being to disconnect the seat heating elements.while this addresses safety for me it falls short of providing me with a functioning seat heater as purchased.also the corrective action does not give consideration to a potentially general existing problem---which is the more important reason that i make this report.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the brakes failed. The contact applied the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by the contact, who was a certified mechanic and the failure was diagnosed as a fractured brake line. The manufacturer was notified and informed him that there were no recalls for the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 117,000.
Another gm rusty brake line failure while attempting to stop on a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. I don't expect things to last forever, but brake lines are essential to the safety of a vehicle and they should not be rusting to failure at this point. I don't care what the climate is. At this point my truck is in the shop getting fixed on my dime (gm refuses to repair it). But they need to look into this. I have worked on/driven many much older cars in the same condition, and i have never seen brake lines rust to this extent in 10 years. My last car was a 20 year old monte carlo that still had original brake lines. In my opinion this has the potential to turn into bigger safety issue at some time. In my opinion, it is only a matter of time.
I was approaching a stop light and applied pressure to the brake pedal.my foot went to the floor and the truck did not stop.i was able to activate the parking brake and safely stop the truck.on inspection, it was discovered that the factory installed steel brake lines failed due to corrosion.the vehicle is well cared for and has no signs of body rust but the brake lines are almost completely rusted away front to back.
Vehicle was driven on a driveway and the brake pedal lost complete resistance and went flat to the floor. Total brake failure occurred without any warning indicators.inspection of the metal brake lines positioned near the left front wheel revealed that all four lines showed severe signs of corrosion and one of the lines had produced a hole therefore leaking brake fluid.
The vehicle was purchased new and has been regularly maintained.the brake lines and frame are heavily corroded.while pulling out of a parking spot on 10/26/14 brakes were applied abruptly which caused a rupture of the corroded brake lines.all brake lines will need to be replaced in order to safely return the vehicle to service.other family members have 2004 chevy yukon and 1994 gmc 2500, both vehicles had brake lines fail due to corrosion and required complete replacement in order to safely return the vehicles to service.this is a serious safety concern and these brake line failures are not normal wear and tear.i have had several vehicles much older than this vehicle which still have stock brake lines with no corrosion.
All brake lines badly rusted. Line above fuel tank rusted through and leaked while driving. Pedal went to floor. To avoid colliding with vehicle in front of me went off road. No damage to my truck.
I was traveling at 35 mph and approached a stop light. The brakes failed and i went through the red light. I nearly was hit by oncoming traffic. The brake line has a sever leak at a rusted area in the line.
I took my truck into fitzgerald auto mall, with whom i've had a great relationship, for some power steering issues.i was told that the brake system piping itself was rusting and would need to be replaced to the tune of $1600.00.i researched this and found that this is a common issue with gm trucks and there hasn't been anything done about it.gm has reduced the cost of the repair "kit" to $500, but who is going to install it?i have had many vehicles and lived in many states where salt is used on the road.i've never seen a vehicle that had so much damage because of it, especially a critical system like brakes.this should have been a recall years ago.i don't think the owners of these affected vehicles should have to pay to fix an engineering mistake.gm should be liable and fix it for free.thank you.
I was stopped at a traffic light with my foot on the brake pedal when suddenly the pedal went almost completely to the floor.after getting safely off the roadway, i inspected the truck and saw a lot of fluid leaking from beneath the rear of the cargo bed. I then discovered that a rear brake line had ruptured, apparently from corrosion. I checked the brake reservoir and found that it was almost empty.once i got the truck to a repair shop i saw that all the tubular brake lines were severely corroded and all needed to be replaced.i had stainless steel lines installed and repair costs exceeded $1.200.00. I've owned this truck since it was brand new and have always kept it very well maintained.
Brake failure do to rusted out lines.a ongoing problem that gm will not take responsibility for the poor quality of these lines putting people's lives at risk.
I drove into lumber yard hit the brakes and they were gone.as my speed was low due to parking lot, i was able to stop without incident.brake lines were completely rusted and all the brake fluid drained into parking lot.i had the brake lines repaired at considerable cost as they were all rusted.they needed to be custom bent by the shop.luckily no one was hurt or killed.this should not have happened.i had rust in all lines and the grouping of lines over the drivers side frame rail next to front tire was the culprit area with all lines rusted thru.i had no stopping power.i had to use parking brake to stop.
I was driving on a highway getting ready to make a left hand turn off the highway when all of a sudden my brake pedal went to the instead of continuing the turn i pulled onto the center median so i would not hit the on coming traffic. I ruptured a brake line and had to have my truck towed to a repair shop.after reading on line i understand this is a persistent problem with the sierra and silverado. I also have read that gm is aware of the problem but refuses to issue a recall because they feel it is not a safety issue. We'll if i had not pulled the wheel back to the right and went into the median i would have been involved in a head on crash,i would call that a safety issue.
Went to stop at stop sign, brakes felt spongy. Stopped up the road about 2 miles at my moms house to get my kids, looked under the truck and saw brake fluid dripping down on the left side of the frame behind the left front wheel.i have to replace all of my brake lines now due to rust.
The problem is a totally rusted-out set of steel brake lines throughout the gmc truck.the burst brake line is in the engine compartment.it is the line that runs from the antilock brake distribution point (attached to the frame beneath the driver seat).it runs along the frame, above the frame rail and past the steering box, and then makes a right turn beneath the radiator to the passenger side of the truck, where it exits into the wheel well and connects to the flexible brake hose on the passenger side.the steel line burst in the area adjacent to the steering box, so that it sprays brake fluid all over the steering box whenever the brake pedal is depressed.this quickly emptied the reservoir on the master cylinderleaving almost no brakes at all.there is very minimal braking available with the pedal fully depressed the floor.i initially examined the system to see if there is any chance of a do-it-yourself repair but quickly abandoned that idea.all of the brake lines are badly corroded and covered with scale, so there is no chance of cutting out the bad segment, double flaring the ends, and splicing-in a short segment to replace the rusted-out portion of the brake line.all of the brake lines throughout the truck are badly rusted and likely will fail again if left in place (according to the gmc service manager).the brake line that failedburst in a part of the engine compartment that would seem to not even be exposed to road salt, since it is inside the engine compartment and relatively shielded from salt spray and road grime by the body, wheel well and frame rail.the dealer service manager in murphy, nc estimates that it will take one of his mechanics almost a full day to remove all of the bad brake lines and fabricate replacements (these lines are not available in prefabricated form from gmc.
Without any warning, my brake lines failed and i could not stop my truck. I live in the northeast and it would seem reasonable for brake lines to rust out. However, my truck is only 10 years old and i have spent thousands of dollars keeping it washed, including the undercarriage. I have never had a brake line fail on another car and i have driven some really old vehicles. I have also never heard of anyone i know having a problem with their vehicles. This is because it is a specific problem with gmc sierra and chevy silverado.
I went out to move the truck and noticed there was fluid on the driveway.i examined the rear driver side and there was a brake line that had rusted through.i contacted the local dealership and they stated they were unaware of this being an issue with those trucks.i had researched and found that there have been multiple complaints to gm about this issue.fortunately, this occurred when the vehicle was parked and did not fail while driving my family in the vehicle.what i have read is that the brake lines were manufactured with poor quality materials and that they fail.the article referenced is:http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/07/08/automobiles/gm-resists-recalling-trucks-over-brake-line-problem.html?referrer=&_r=1.
When trying to exit highway offramp brakes completely failed due to brake lines rusting through. Vehicle was brought to a stop with parking brake.
Was traveling on baldwin rd., clermont county, ohio. I applied the brakes to slow for a corner andthe brake pedal went to the floor board.i finally got the vehicle stopped and i realized what had happened.i had a discussion with a mechanic at my dealership while my truck was still under warranty about the condition of the brake lines in the engine compartment, and was told that the rust was just discoloration and nothing to worry about.when i called the dealership on 3/7/2014, i was told by the service manager that he was not aware of anyinvestigation.
Around the middle of december 2014 the "service brake system" message appeared on my 2005 gmc 1500 sierra sle.i checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was nearly empty.i could not find where the fluid had leaked from so i serviced the reservoir with 12 ounces brake fluid to the full mark.from about december 15, 2014 until 28 december 2014, i lost about 7 ounces of brake fluid.no trace of brake fluid can be found on the driveway.i crawled under the truck and had my wife press the brakes while i looked for a leak.i found the leak near the left rear wheel area on a very corroded bracket.it appears to be a very small hole because the fluid comes out as a fine mist and not a stream.the rigid brake line connects to a flexible brake line at the bracket and there is a lot of rust at the connection as well as the brake line.i have found rust forming on other brake lines as well.
Began to back out of parking space when the brake pedal fell flat to the floor. Lost all braking power and was unable to stop. Brake fluid leaking from rusted line.
Vehicle was stopped.brake peddle went to the floorboard.not able to pump up any pressure.investigation showed brake fluid coming from perforated brake line at left front wheel.no braking action available!appears to be some type of corrosive reaction between the brake line and the clamps used to fasten the line to the chassis. Note:this vehicle has never been operated in snow or road salt to my knowledge.
On 11-30-2015 i lost the brake system while driving on a city street.upon inspection i found a ruptured brake line from the primary side of the master cylinder.the brake line had failed due to corrosion.inspecting other brake lines, i found others that had corrosion where plastic clips were used to locate lines.i have owned this truck since new and have cared for it meticulously.the truck has 66,00 miles on it.i have never owned any vehicle that had it brake lines rust through like this.a major catastrophe to me and my family was averted by pulling over at the first sign of failure.gm should be held liable for every vehicle it manufactured with poor quality materials that can cause failure to the single most important part of an automobile, the brakes.as you can see from the attached photos, this truck is not rusted anywhere else.
A vehicle approaching from my left side was speeding and ran the stop light in front of me at approximately 40mph.i slammed on my brakes to avoid the collision and my brakes wet to the floor. I missed hitting the car by about 1 foot. At aninspection at a dealership it appears the brake lines had rusted through under the drivers side of the truck. Apparently form road salt corrosion,
Brake lines heavily rusted. Looks like they will soon fail.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, she applied the brakes and the vehicle slid a small distance. The contact then pumped the brakes and the brakes functioned normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the flex hoses lines from the master cylinder and the abs pump to the rear calipers would all need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 70,000.
Helped friend with plumbing problem, as i backed out his drive way brakes seemed a little soft. At first stop sign brake pedal went down about 1/4 more on travel than normal. At next stop sign a car was already stopped, i applied my brakes, pedal to floor, no brakes at all. Dropped transmission into first gear, slowed some. The car at stop sign luckily proceeded on thru. I was not able to make a complete stop, and rolled thru the stop sign. Just about hit another car. I was able to nurse truck home. I have a garage at home with a car lift in it. I like working on old cars, and motorcycles. Worked on cars and trucks since i was 16, am 61 now, and by no means a novice working on, or racing cars!!! after checking trucks braking system. Left front steel brake line was rusted badly and had ruptured. As i continued checking the brake system, all brake lines extremely rusted. I have a 1952 styleline deluxe that the original brake lines look better. Truck my have seen snow 3 to 4 times in its life, pretty sad. I am lucky to not have killed some one or myself. Have pictures of brake lines and truck is still on lift. Extremely poor quality brake lines. Gmc should recall. With out a doubt sure some has been killed or injured, there will be more if not addressed now!!!!!!!!!
Front driver side and passenger side wheel bearings and abs sensors went bad. I have spoke to other owners of similar vehicles and they also had trouble.
I have a 2005 gmc sierra. While driving on dry roads and braking at low speeds the abs abnormally activates with out warrant.this only happens at low speeds and has almost caused me to have several accidents.i called the gm dealer to see if there is a recall on this and they told me there was not and i could bring it in to have it looked at and repaired at my expense.i see there are other complaints here at the nhtsa for the same thing.searching the internet i found there are alot of people with the same problem and that gm has done a recall on 1999-2002 vehicles.i also found that gm knows they still have a problem with there abs because they have put out a tsb # 03-05-25-007d on it, and the nhtsa has it listed on there bulletin section.it is nhtsa bulletin #10004310.
Dt*: the contact stated that there were problems with the break pads, rotors, shoes, and drums.at only30,000 miles, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs on 5 occassion to grind down the brakes and rotors. None of the repairs fixed the problem. The first time the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the problem was at 20,000 miles. The contact expressed concerns that the vehicleshould not need this many repairs at this mileage . There were no incidents prior to this problem that caused the brakes to go bad.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 2500hd. The contact stated that when attempting to brake at low speeds, the front end would shake and the braking distance would increase. The contact also stated that the vehicle would pull toward the right when the failure occurred. An authorized dealer stated that this was a known failure, but this year, make and model was not recalled. The failure and current mileages were 72,000.updated 02/09/12*ljthe front wheel bearing assembly and sensor were replaced. Updated 02/13/12
While driving at approximately 8-10 mph on dry roads, the abs abnormally activated without warrant. The contact stated the failure would only occur when traveling at low speeds under 10 mph. The dealer advised a diagnostic and repairs if necessary at the owners expense. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure became progressively worse. The failure mileage was 107,000 and the current mileage was 112,000.
Dt: the contact owns a2005 gmc sierra. While driving, the vehicle would pull to the left or right under light and severe braking..talked to the dealership, and they said that this was normal.the contactdid not feel that this was normal, it was asafety hazard. Updated 11/16/05.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra.during brake applicationbetween 10-12 mph the abs activated without warrant.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection.the driver-side wheel speed sensor was cleaned, because of corrosion . The technician speculated that the driver side wheel speed sensor would require replacement in the future. After the repair the failure resurfaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired for the malfunction.the failuremileage was 43,433.the current mileage was 43,453.
Purchased 2005 new gmc sierra crew cab, 349 miles, on 19 july 2005 from ranz motor co., inc., chanute, ks, vin [xxx].on 8/21/05 the vehicle began to shake violently, the front brakes locked up, there was a distinct odor emitting from the vehicle, and smoke was rolling out from under the right front side of the truck.ranz motorsreplaced a bad brake booster in accordance with bulletin epit3685 and checked operation.on 9/1/05 the vehicle displayed the same defect as described above.this time car was taken to coast to a slow speed before exiting the highway by my husband, a 27 year retired police lt, when the brakes were applied, the steering shook so violently, the steering wheel was jerked from both hands, the vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic narrowly avoiding a head-on accident.slowly drove the vehicle back to ranz motors (approximately 50 miles round trip).the vehicle was not repaired at that time, but the next day a service tech drove the vehicle only .21 miles before the vehicle again exhibited the same defect.the tech pulled up on the brake pedal and vibration stopped (ref: [xxx]).another booster was installed, vehicle was road tested 295 miles without any duplication of previous problem.i have lost all confidence in the vehicle, it's use is not only as a family vehicle, but is also used to pull a 4 horse trailer.no old parts where shown to either myself or my husband either time.i've discussed with ranz motors trading the vehicle back in on something else and steve ranz "wasn't comfortable selling that vehicle to someone else with it's history of problems".other dealers have depreciated the vehicle substantially based on it's repair history.i proceeded with the gmc buy back program where i was offered $794.00 and an extended warranty, and told if it happens again we will consider buying it back.i don't like playing russian roulette with my life or that of my family.updated 07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informat
For the past 6 months i have noticed that my steering wheel shakes when i slow down at stop signs. I also have noticed a clicking/knocking noise when i make turns and i can feel it through the steering wheel.i will be scheduling an appt. For this immediately.
Truck with a full-size camper was parked for less than 5 min. Before it blew up and burned up.north american technical & forensic services examined the truck and determined that the cause was a powersteering fluid leak in the left front engine compartment at the powersteering fluid line or line connections.after the fire, i contacted gm regarding the incident and asked if they had any record of this type of fire and they said no.however, in checking the recalls, there was a recall for powersteering leakage.gm then filed bankruptcy.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 2500.while driving approximately 65 mph, the contact experienced difficulty with the steering.he drove the vehicle to a local repair shop and had the tires re-balanced.the mechanic stated that the tires were fine; however, they were wearing on the outside.a front end alignment was recommended.he took the vehicle to another repair shop and the mechanic stated that they would be unable to repair the front end alignment due to defective inner tie rod ends.the vehicle was repaired nonetheless.the dealer stated that they were not responsible for reimbursement.the manufacturer was not notified.the current mileage was 82,054 and failure mileage was 70,547.
Intermediate steering shaft has been rattling for a few weeks now, and my truck only has 38,000 miles. I'm told that lubricating it will only stop it short term.
I have issues with my alignment, dealership can not fix the problem it has been in service 9 times for the alignment. I also have knocking noise and a steering shaft problem again dealership has not resolved the issue.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra.the contact stated that the steering shaft does not have enough grease and causes the steering to stiffen up while driving.the vehicle was taken to the dealer at least five times for the steering shaft to be re-greased, but that has not remedied the issue.the contact feels this is a safety issue because the steering stiffens and makes it very difficult to drive, which could lead to a crash.the current mileage was 49,000 and failure mileage was 15,000.
Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle looses power steering at less than 5mph or while stopped and applying the brakes. The vehicle was taken to multiple dealerships at least six times.during those occasions, the dealerships replaced the gear box, shaft sector, power assist hose, pump and the pressure valve.the power steering problem still exist.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the spare tire cable would not release the tire after numerous attempts. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the spare tire housing unit was removed in order to cut the cable harness which allowed the tire to detach. The contact was in the process of replacing the spare tire housing unit. The failure mileage was 79,000. The vin was unavailable.
Under carriage of truck is completely rusted. Frame, brake lines, leaf springs, basically everything. Fuel tank looks as if might break off and fall to ground at any moment and leaf spring shackles look as if might break and split truck in half. All dangerous and should be recalled.
2005 gmc sierra experiencing problems with the doors.*mrthe consumer has to use excessive force toget the front doors to close.the rear doors close properly.

The rear upper frame mount for the shock absorber failed due to corrosion.the non-paint rubberized coating placed on the entire frame of this vehicle is flaking off and exposing the bare steel to the elements.the frame of this vehicle has more rust than should be expected on a 50 year-old truck but it is less than eight years old.the truck is well taken care of and the body shows no signs of rust.the failure of the non-paint rubberized frame coating has rendered this 2005 sierra un-drivable.
2005 sierra 1500 4x4 i bought this truck new 01/ 2005, the rear spring shackles failed on 02/20/2014 due to rust, i took it to the dealer and they said the rear 3ft of frame is badly rusted making it not roadworthy. Gms position is that this is somehow neglect on my part and will not do anything. The body of the truck is not rusted and still looks good. I find it unreasonable that a 9yr old truck with no body rust should have the frame so rusted as to make it unsafe to drive.
Front driver side and passenger side wheel bearings and abs sensors went bad. I have spoke to other owners of similar vehicles and they also had trouble.

I have issues with my alignment, dealership can not fix the problem it has been in service 9 times for the alignment. I also have knocking noise and a steering shaft problem again dealership has not resolved the issue.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. While driving 45 mph the left front driver side tire had begun to wobble. Moments later, thetire had suddenly locked, which caused the vehicle to come to a complete stop.a mechanic stated that the wheel bearing needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 60000.
Noise started from the rear end one month after purchase. There is a loud noise that comes from driveshaft or rear end when the truck shifts down or up in low gears and is twice as bad after turning . The dealer has checked the truck 3 times and told they could pace grease in something in the rear, but it would stop the noise a short time and there is nothing they could do as it was factory defect. It is now one year old and is getting worse every week. The truck has only 10,300 miles on it.
Tow hitch on truck cracked had i not seen that the hitch was bending the trailer i was hauling would have broken loose while i was driving down the road.
Defect discovered this date, but known by manufacturer. Exhaust manifold bolts are breaking, leading to exhaust gases leaking under hood which will lead to emission problems. Learned that this is a common problem with gm 8 cylinder trucks made from 1999 to 2007, which involves about 12 million vehicles. The repair cost is $800 to $1000, and gm has not recalled or offered to extend warranty to cover the repair. This is clearly a manufacturing defect and gm should be held accountable.
At any rate of speedtruck willgo into reduced engine power must pull over out of traffic and kill engine wait a couple of minutes and then restart sometimes you can go 1 mile till happens again sometimes 50 miles very dangerous situation in heavy traffic.

I hada crash, the engines gets acceleratedla inicion se quedo acelerada cuando le di a la palanca de "drive"
Dt:when the consumer presses the accelerator all the way down it does not speed up quickly.it is a few moments before the vehicle will speed up.this problem has been occurring since purchase.the problem is with the passing gear and the resume on the cruise control.the problem occurs whether or not the cruise control is on.when the consumer contacted the manufacturer, they told him that it was how the vehicle was designed.
This model gmc sierra truckhas a known propensity for failure of the windshield washer mechanism. Whereas this has not caused me to have an accident it has resulted in an unsafe condition as when vision obscured by dust or mud. The washer reservoir is located in a very tight space between the inside of the engine compartment and the battery. My washer started to leak after i had the battery replaced. Even though iwas topping up the fluid i kept getting a low washer fluid warning light. Eventually i noticed that when refilling all of the washer fluid leaks out onto the ground beneath the truck. I note that when replacing the battery it would be very easy to strike the washer mechanism. This can crack the reservoir, dislodge a hose, or cause a gasket in the device to fail. I have not been able to diagnose theproblem with certainty as gmc refuses to diagnose this safety concern free of charge. I believe that the windshield washer is a critical safety feature of the vehicle and should be addressed by the manufacturer even if the vehicle is out of warranty. I believe that the windshield washer mechanism is of flimsy construction and, by virtue of its location,is prone to damage when replacing the battery.
The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra. While parked with the ignition turned off, the contact noticed that the blower motor would not shut off. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact stated there was a manufacturer's recall for the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.
