I have a 2004 gmc sierra and all of a sudden my airbag light and abs light came on took it in to have it looked and the airbags are not communicating with the sensor and they would have to go more in depth on the abs but to go more in depth they charge $80.00 an hour just to be able to figure it out.i have seen similar responses on the airbag light for this vehicle please help.
Dt: the contact owned a 2004 gmc sierra 1500.he stated that vehiclewas involvedin an accident while traveling 40 mph.upon impact, air bags did not deploy. According to the traffic officer contact's vehiclehe hit a treeand a branch fell down and hit the top of vehicle cab. The contactwas wearingseat belt, andwas the only person in the vehicle.the contact sustained a neck injury.
While drivingat 50 mph a head on collision occurred. Upon impact, air bag did not deploy. There were some injuries.
Head on mid speed collision with tree- no airbag deployment with injury to driver-sole occupant.
A 1200 lb elk jumped in front of the vehicle causing me to swerve and roll the vehicle end over end.the airbag(s) never deployed in either the driver or passenger sides of the vehicle.
The heating and ac controls were replaced 2 times in 2007.and are still not working properly today i was driving home with the ac on because it's 99 degrees in los angeles county and like it has been doing for years it started blowing hot air on its own. I havesee other gm vehicles with the same issue. So i believe gm is responsible for correcting this issue.
While driving our 2004 gmc sierra, the speedometer, keep acting up and then it just quit. Before the manufactures warranty went out. So i took it to the local dealer and said it would cost me about 1000.00 dollars .i think this problem should be fixed by the manufacture.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer would either display an inaccurate speed reading or become completely inoperable. The contact indicated that the defect was diagnosed by the dealer and the contact was informed that a new instrument panel cluster needed to be installed to remedy the defect. No repairs were performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83000.
Gm mailed a notice that the instrument panel in 2004 sieera trucks is subject to failure including fuel gauge, speedometer, etc. These can be very serious safety concerns depending on driving conditions. Gm has offer to extend the warranty to 70,000 miles or 7 years. This totally unacceptable from a safety standpoint.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the instrument panel failed and all of the gauges stopped working. The dealer informed the contact that the entire instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage and current mileages were 83,000.
Rusted out/ corroded brake lines burst while stopping for a deer running out onthe road. Was warned of this problem upon purchase of the vehicle in 2010 and personally coated all brake lines b4 winter every year...never saw worse lines! i own classic cars that are twice as old with shiney original brake lines. The fuel lines also rotted out spilling fuel over the top of the fuel tank and on the ground while filling up. All fuel lines and fuel pump connections were severely rotted. Worst i have seen. Dash consistently changes languages rendering odometer non functional. Speedometer is inaccurate some times not even working especially on cold days.hmmmm rotted brakes+no speedometer+leaky fuel lines=crash, bang boom!..and i have a car seat in my vehicle! luckly i perform preventative maintenance and drive safely. The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra.the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.the vehicle was ble to be restarted after the contact shifted into neutral.the failurewas recurring over a period of two years.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not duplicate the failure.the manufacturer was not notified.the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, all of the instrument panel lights failed. The contact mentioned that the failure would recur intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.
2004 sierra caught on fire due to a malfunction in the truck.
In most 2002-2006 chevy and gmc trucks thecluster will start going out gm had a recall onthe cluster but never sent out a report on it.
Ignition will not turn over. Battery is fine, everything works except turning over. When you turn the key nothing happens everything goes dead. I have a video.
2004 gmc sierra 2500hd, instrument panel started showing the rpm's to be in the red zone, then the speedometer would quite working, then the gas gage would quite working, then the temperature gauges quite working, to begin with it would happen periodically till it quite working completely.took it to repair shop and had fixed.i know two other people that this has happened to also with the same vehicles only a year or two apart.all of which happened between 80,000 and 110,000 miles. Feel it is a safety concern, when i was doing 75mph on the highway and saw my rpm's pegged in the red and was in a hurry to pull off to the side of the road to prevent my engine from blowing up. Same with the temp gauges.
The speedometer on my 2004 gmc pu failed on a recent trip from me to fl. As i pulled onto thema trpk, i noticed that the speedometer was reading 85 mph. At the time, i was probably going 60 - 65. It then read higher and higher on the trip and the needle was buried at times. When i stopped, the needle would drop a little. A few days after the trip was concluded, the needle returned to zero when stopped and currently records accurately. Obviously, it is a safety hazard when your speedometer fails, especially in the middle of a long trip.i recently asked a local dealer if there has been a problem, and was told that they have had to replace "lots" of speedometers ($350). I then asked if the replacements failed and was told "not yet". Gm has not offered to fix this problem (i was just out of warranty) and should be forced to do soand recall all faulty units. There has been a lot of discussion on the internet. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
The speedometer, oil pressure gauge, alt meter, fuel gauge have all failed over the last several years. None of them read correctly.
On november 29 while driving my 2004 gmc sierra pickup my speedometer malfunctioned. This continued to happen off and on for 2 or 3 weeks then stopped working. After checking with the dealership i was advised this would cost 500 dollars to repair. The local sheriff's department has 10 2003 chevy tahoe's that have experienced the same problem. I would like some research on this device malfunction. Thank you.
Instrument panel cluster failures.
I have a 2004 gmc sierra that has an electrical issue with the abs or brake system.the brake light, abs light and service brake system light goes off at random times.might have something to do with the air conditioning because the a/c draws power from the battery and i can see that a certain level the indicators go off.most of the time the lights chime and blink when i apply the brake but it also has happened when just turned the truck on.i've replaced the rotors and pads to still have the problem.i'm not sure if it's a ground or sensor that is failing.i've found tsb for regrounding, failing sensors, or ecbm.still haven't found the correct diagnosis.i just hope the abs functions when i need it.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 30 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and noticed increased stopping distance. The brake pedal depressed very easily when the pressure was applied. The failureoccurred whenever the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal so he replaced the brakes himself. The failure continued so he notified an authorized dealer and was informed his vehicle was not included in the recalls associated with nhtsa campaign id numbers 05v043000, service brakes, hydraulic or 04v045000, service brakes, hydraulic. The vehicle was not repaired. He also stated that his speedometer and oil gauge on the instrument panel displayed incorrect improper readings. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000 and the current mileage was approximately 48,000.
On three separate occasions, my dash cluster in my 2004 gmc sierra 1500 has gone out. The 1st time was only for about an hour, but the second time, it was out for over 2 weeks, i contacted a dealer, and they told me to check the fuses, which i did, but they were fine, after it came back on, i received a letter from gm stating that there was a problem with the clusters, but they were only covering them if the vehicle was still in warranty, well by this time, my vehicle was 800 miles out of warranty(but if i had known when it was out, i was still in warranty at that time), anyway, now the cluster is out for the third time, and gm refuses to fix the problem. I have spoke to them several times, and since i am out of warranty, they refuse to do anything, even after making me take it to a dealer to have it diagnosed, when they knew it was out of warranty. My owner's manual even states it is a safety issue to run the vehicle without a working cluster, and i would like gm to fix something that they know is bad, on multiple year vehicles.
My 2004 sierra's speedometer doesnt register speed properly. Sometimes it sticks at one speed like 60 or 70 regardless of speed, or will rest at a number when the vehicle is motionless and proceed upward as the vehicle increases speed. This is very unsafe. Sometimes it works for a while if i can get it to fall back to zero, but that doesnt last long. It eventually quits functioning properly.
Gauges went out, should be a replace recall.
My 2004 gmc sierra speedometer started acting up. Showing more than 20 mph over actual rate of speed and stuck at higher than zero when not driving.i feel it is ridiculous that i have to pay for replacement of this defective part when i have only 20,000 miles on my vehicle.yes only 20k!i drive it infrequently but i am out of my 3yr warranty.this is a known problem that gm needs to address!
04 gmc serria speeometer erratic and work.
The speedometer on my 04 gmc sierra sticks. Sometimes it reads 120 sitting still and mine is not the only one.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra.the gauges on the instrument panel failed.the dealer stated that the instrument cluster failed.no repairs were made because the dealer stated that the mileage exceeded 70,000.the failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 144,000. Speedometer failed. It readsslow.updated 01-11-08.
My speedometer went from working normally to 0 mph being 75 mph now i am not sure how fast i am going. It just started this evening after i picked up my son. Before that everything was working fine. After researching to see if any others were having the same problem i found that many gm customers are experiencing the same problem with their speedometer. Some of them actually paying thousands of dollars while others are paying 4-7 hundred and still having the same problem hours later after paying to have it fixed. I would like to request a recall of the speedometer equipment on 2004 gm trucks and suv's.
The speedometer began to display the wrong speed. (i.e. Sometimes 30mph at 50 or 60 or 120 at 45. The speedometer then stopped working completely.this all occurred over the period of 2 or 3 months.
Bought the truck from a dealership in august 2006. In november, the speedometer and tachometer stopped working. I bought an extended "bumper-to-bumper" warranty and they have told me that it is not covered. They want to charge me ninety dollars to inspect the failure, plus charge me for the repair. After some investigation, i find that this is a common problem with this year make and model.
The speedometer of my 2004 gmc sierra will often not show the correct speed. Sometimes it goes way up, sometimes way down - even to zero. I have contacted my local dealer who says it will cost at least $600 to repair and i have contacted gmc who says there is nothing they can do - they report no recall. My wife's 2004 chevy monte carlo had the same problems soon after we bought it new - it was repaired under warranty. From my research online, this speedometer problem seems to be very widespread with gm products. I believea faulty speedometer is a very serious safety issue that should be addressed by gm.
Speedometer and oil gauge failure.
Warranty extension on instrument cluster on 2005 sierra 2500hd doesn't cover either truck i own because mileage is over the 70k limit.this problem has been around for years but service extension is no help now.
The 2004 gmc sierra speedometer started acting up: stuck on mph when not driving then while driving it acted as if mph started on 0 but recorded as for example: 90mph...(it stuck on 30mph then when driving it recorded going 90mph when actually traveling 60mph)we took the truck in a few different times to be checked and the final conclusion was that the instrument cluster was bad and needed to be replaced.i have since learned that a large volume of trucks this year, make and model have had the same problem.i feel there should be some sort of recall on this and that gm needs to have this problem taken care of.
The speedometer on my 2004 gmc sierra has been sporadically working. I have been researching it and have realized that it's not only my problem but a problem with gmc's and chevy's and i think that something needs to be done about it. I don't know what speed i'm going when i'm traveling down the road. It says 20 but i could be doing 80 for all i know. How many complaints does it take for you to make a recall?
Speedometer failure.speedometer would bounce around, then quit working, started working, failed to work, went over to 125+ mph when vehicle not moving.speedometer has worked itself back around to 0 and no longer functions.
The windshield is leaking water down into the electrical system. The wiring is shorting out. Also, the linkage has fallen out. You can smell burnt wiring and smoke. The consumer has contacted the dealer several times. The dealer continuously told the consumer that the gentleman was not there that she needed to see. Consumer had someone elselook at the vehicle. And was told the vibration from driving had jarred the the pin loose. The blower, heat, and the transmission failed.
I had purchased my sierra 1500 from chesrown dealership of delaware ohio.i had the truck for less than 60 days.i loved the truck very much but was very upset when an electrical fire started in under my hood.this happened the day after thanksgiving and since i had the factory stereo system i had no explanation for the start of the fire.it took the fire department a couple of minutes to get there and by that time the fire had spread from the engine throughout the wires down the firewall and into my trucks entirer.all that i could do was watch in horror as my truck was engulfed in flames from a far.i attempted to stop the fire from spreading inside and my hand was burnt.when the police used the the fire extinguisher from their cruiser it seemed to give it oxygen and spread it faster.i was devastated.
Speedometer is stuck at 65 mph & goes up from there so it is impossible to know how fast the vehicle is moving. This is very dangerous. I called gmc about recalls & they said there are none.
Speedometer and gauge cluster have worked intermittently for the past few weeks and have now completely failed. I have talked to several other gm truck owners and apparently this an extremely common occurrence. Some of them were lucky enough to have gotten it covered. I see from the complaint search that there are a number of complaints here as well. Gm charges an outrageous amount to fix this issue as it requires complete replacement of the cluster. If a total failure of a cluster including the speedometer isn't a safety hazard, i don't know what is.
Exhaust manifold bolts breaking off causing exhaust leak where manifold bolts onto head. Due to exhaust leak now vehicle is throwing codes for catalytic threshold low. Which leads to a magnitude of problems to lack of power, poor fuel mileage and not being able to pass emission test in some states. Problem results in upward of thousand dollars in repair for faulty bolts, after researching said problem it is a common problem with gm v8 of this year older and newer as well. This is a major defect and flaw in gm's design and needs to be addressed aspa!!! this is a prob that is affecting epa laws and needs action taken againstgm to fix this problem before it gets worse. Gm needs to be held responsible for their vehicles and poor design and or products that go into them that causes laws or safety to be broken or effected!
Multiple exhaust manifold bolts are broken on each side.
At the above listed date my vehicle began blowing excessive blue smoke through the exhaust. I discovered at that time there had been a recall on the fuel injectors several years before. I attempted to remedy this with gm at that time and was told i was too late past the date to get service on the recall. I was not notified of a recall and would have taken care of it at that time. It continues to blow excessive smoke but only at idle. I wish to have the problem corrected as it is hurting the environment. I was given a price at the local dealership to repair this issue. I don't feel i should have to pay to have it corrected as there was a recall on the problem.
Drove from my home to coworkers (20mins) left truck in coworkers driveway ,and went to work.one hour later coworker rec'd call from next door that my truck was on fire.
I smelled exhaust fumes in the cab of the pickup truck and heard a shrieking sound under the hood. I had to put the window down to relieve my dizziness from the fumes. Upon investigation i found 3 of the 6 bolts broken that fasten the exhaust manifold to the engine. Exhaust fumes are leaking from the burned out gasket.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving his vehicle the check engine light illuminated and the message reduce engine power appeared causing the vehicle to reduce speed. The contact stated that the failure happened several times without warning and it was a safety hazard while driving on the highway. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they were not able to help until the vehicle was inspected. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 55,000. Updated 04/12/11*ljupdated 09/19/11
The injectors on my 2004 gmc sierra went out at 26,000 miles.the incident caused me to lose my truck for 4 days.the dealership replaced all 8 injectors.
2004 sierra caught on fire due to a malfunction in the truck.
2004 gmc 2500hd duramax - purchased march 2004. Severe, abrupt 'clacking/chatter' coupled with brief, complete loss of power and billows of smoke. Has occurred 4 times: 3/28 1660 miles @ 67mph, 5/5 2167 miles @ 70 mph, 5/8 2316 miles @ 60-65 mph, 5/8 2325 miles @ 60-65 mph.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. He was attempted to take the spare tire off of the undercarriage but was unable to remove it.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the spare tire was cut off.the mechanism that holds the spare tire appeared to be covered with rust.the failure and current mileages were 46,000. Updated 11/22/10updated 11/23/10
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the mechanism to lower the spare tire on the vehicle was inoperable. The cable would lower but the tire would not. The contact stated that because of the safety mechanism, there was no way to remove the spare tire from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the mechanic had to use a torch and cut the spare tire loose. The contact stated that the spare tire looked as if it was never removed from vehicle and believed that rust and corrosion caused the tire to become stuck. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The failure and current mileage was 49,000. Updated evoq 10/13/10

2004 gmc 3500 pickup, park lights goes out on it's own. The consumer discovered the parking lights were hooked to a battery saving device that automatically turned off the lights that were left on after a period of 10 minutes.
I own a 2004 gmc sierra pickup with 6,700 miles. I am experienceing a imtermintent problem with the turn signal/hazard lights. When i activate the left turn signal the hazard lights begin to flash. I have taken the truck to the dealership for repairs, after waiting two months for the problem to occur at a time i was near the dealer. They replaced the multi function switch and two days later the problem is still there. I continue to work with gmc directly and the dealership to seek resolution but am being told that unless they can see the problem happening they cannot do anything. I am very concerned that this is a definite safety issue. If i am attempting to make a left turn and the signals are not operating as they should i could end up in a collision with on coming or approaching from the rear traffic. I believe this should be addressed immediately and repaired. Please help.

The dealership was unable to install a relay switch because of a wiring change from the 2000 models.the low and high beam came on separately. When it snowed and the high beam was on, snow build up on the low beam.when this occurred it created a layer of snow, and consumer was unable to change back to low beam.the mechanics reported that there was and incompatibility's of the previously used relay.gmc would not correct the problem. *sc

Dt*: the contact stated the fuel gauge is inoperative.the fuel gauge shows empty at all times.the dealership replaced the fuel sender assembly, however the problem still exists.the manufacturer has been alerted.updated 7/21/2006 - the consumer's vehicle has exhibited the problem since the vehicle was new. Many comoponents were replaced to correct the problem but noneof them worked to permanently repair the problem.
All fuel and brakes like rotted.the brakes failed for the second time. One brake line was previously replaced approx. 1 year ago.both times vehicle needed to be towed for repair.total cost for most recent replacement/repair was $1202.13.
While driving at 75 mph in cruise control modevehicle stalled.consumer proceeded to pull off the road. This failure occurred 4 times, simultaneously while in route to the dealership. The dealership indicated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced.the fuel pump was replaced, but the failure recurred.
I was leaving my driveway and completely lost all brakes and could not stop. I had to slam on the parking brake to stop. A brake line blew. All the brake lines and fuel lines are completely rotted.this vehicle isn't even 10 years old yet. The fuel line and brake lines are a major safety issue. This truck is a 2500 and i use it for towing trailers if that brake line went while towing it would have been a major accident. The entire underneath of this truck is so rusted the frame brake line and fuel lines are terrible. Someone is going to get killed from gm's cheap steel.

Gmc replaced all 8 fuel injectors under warranty at 95,000 miles.same problem again at 135,000 and will not cover them.estimated $5,500 to replace by consumer with only a 12 month warranty.creates poor fuel economy, excessive smoke at idle and will not pass smog if not corrected.
#104 sierra 4x4 returned to dealer after 2 weeks (9/18/04) with 1523 miles for hard shifting.clutch was not installed correctly from factory.engage and disengage point in clutch pedal travel is at full depression into the firewall.#2 passenger door hard to close fully.driver side door closes as expected with little effort.passenger door will not close completely without undue force being applied or a window cracked.#3 returned truck to a different dealership on 9/15/05 with 8,190and again 12/15/05 with 10,282 miles. For a knocking noise during turning, clutch not engaging and disengaging correctly, passenger door not closing completely, and a new rattling noise from the transmission along with a whine noise from the gears.the dealership fixed the knocking noise from a service bulletin concerning a steering bushing.this dealership also stated they found nothing wrong with the clutch or the transmission or the passenger door.none of the problems were fixed #5i immediately took the truck to an independent transmission specialistafter picking it up from the dealership for a 3rd opinion on 12/20/05 with 10,284 miles.his opinion was flatly stated that the truck has major problems with the clutch and the transmission.his evaluation was the clutch was not installed correctly from the factory and depression into the firewall was not correct.the transmission has synchronizer and possible bushings and bearings that were failing.he stated the noises alone were definite indicators that the transmission has problems and that anyone would know that a clutch is not required to be depressed into the firewall for proper operation which in time will lead to premature clutch failure.this evaluation cost me $30 and 3 hour lost from work.
The emergency brake was defective.the consumer contacted the dealership and they tried to remedy the situation, however, the consumer wasdisturbed that the dealership would sell a vehicle without it being inspected.*sc
I notice the parking brake losing is capacity to brake properly. I was minor at first the one day it just quite working properly.i wasn't aware of a recall on it at the time.i took it into a dick keffer in charlotte.they say there is nothing wrong with the parking break.i've also talked to gmc about this.gmc says there is a recall on my truck but wouldn't fix it because the dealer says there's nothing wrong.i do know there is something wrong.my truck is a 2004 gmc sierra crew cab long box.
Will not go into park.
Problems with shifting on 2004 gmc sierra. *mr the consumer noticed some shifting problems and noises.the consumer was advised that the transmission must be taken out.the consumer found that the vehicle should have been not sold until repaired.recall# 04019. *sc
The manual shift on the fly system (msof) with new venture gears automatic transfer case is defectively designed. A metal anti-rattle clip works it way through the case housing, causing all fluid to leak outof the transfer case. The clutches then burn out rendering the transfer case useless.the result is no 4 wheel drive (no power to front wheels) when shift on the fly is pressed, leaving driver sliding on snow or ice--which happened to me in a near wreck. I recovered from the slide and got the vehicle home and then to a repair shop (once the snow melted) for a new transfer case (repair ongoing).drivers may rely on the 4wd in inclement weather to certain conditions and be injured when the 4wd does not engage due to the defective transfer case.this condition is so common in the gmc sierra/chevy silverado that there are now parts to prevent the clip from eating through the housing: the merchant automotive upgrade provides the solution that should be done to all 4wd models with the defective transfer cases:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj5zs8womnk&feature=relatedthe condition would not impact 2wd models, however. It should be remedied by general motors.
1st broken flywheel replaced; now 05/31/05 back in for 2nd fly wheel replacement.
Truck vibrates and makes noise between 40 and 50.sounds like binding.happens as truck is shifting in and out of overdrive.dealer has tried but cannot duplicate condition.
The transmission has intermittent shifting problems, it hesitates and big noise happens. Dealer hasn't found anything.also truck vibrates at 40-50 miles an hr. Very annoying. The dealer says on going problem with no solution. Thinking of buying a ford moving ahead.
Transmission makes a clunking sound when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Also, intermittnet slipping of transmission when starting to move from a full stop. Vehicle hesitates before it begins to move. This occured within the 1st 500 miles and contines to occur today.
Transmission will slip every so often, also it will make a loud noise when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. This happens alot but not every time. The four wheel drive makes a grinding noise as you start moving and continues for a good distance (4 high)
Consumer and his wife were cleaning the vehicle. Husband was outside washing the vehicle, while the wife was inside the vehicle, cleaning. The wife had the key in the ignition, turned to accessories while listening to the radio, and accidentally pushing the shifter down with car being off and vehicle moved backward, hitting the husband andinjuring his knees.the consumer entered a file # of 1-281746845.*tc
Our son-in-law owns a 2004 gmc 4-door pickup.it has automatic transmission.our two-year old grandson was in the truck while his father was cleaning it.the key was in the accessory position so they could listen to the radio. The child pulled the shift lever out of park and the truck ran away down an incline.both driver's side doors were separated from the vehicle by a tree and the truck continued until rear-ending another tree.the child stayed in the vehicle and was unhurt.in checking this truck, our 2003 tahoe, and our 2003 chevrolet pickup we find that all of them:1.the shift lever is locked when the key is in the locked position2.the shift lever is locked when in the "run" or ignition position and requires the brake to be depressed prior to shifting.3.but in the "accessory" position the shift is completely unlocked and requires only a very slight pressure to move it out of park and result in a runaway.i feel there is no reason for the shift lever not to be locked in all positions and, in fact, the fact it is locked in two positions but not the accessory position results in confusion and a false sense of security.this was not a component failure, but is a design failure that apparently involves all gm trucks and suvs of this model.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 90,000....updated 10/19/12 updated 10/25/12
Dt*:the contact stated while driving in normal conditions, the transmission locked up.the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for inspection.the dealer replaced the transmission; however, the new transmission has the same problem.
Automatic transmission would intermittently hesitate before catching in gear while driving. Vehicle has been to the dealer on two separated occasions and they were unable to duplicate the problem. Consumer was concerned that this vehicle maybe rear ended. The truck was on an incline in overdrive with my foot on the brake, let off the brake and gave it gas to merge into traffics and the truck wouldn't accelerate. It hesitated until felt like a gear caught and then into traffic instead of going when it needed to go.the second time was almost the same way.
The center hub of the wheels constantly falls off.the plastic screws that hold the hub on the wheel are not securing the hub properly.the consumer has lost six of these hubs since owning the vehicle.the vehicle would buck when putinto 4low and shifting into park or neutral from reverse or drive.the vehicle made a thumping noise when making left turns and the consumer could feel it in the steering wheel.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra . The column shifter could change gears without brake application. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership. The current and failure mileages were 114743.

While driving 40 mph in heavy fog the consumer lost control of the vehicle and went down an embankment and crashed into a tree. The driver side seat belt broke. As a result, the consumer sustained neck injuries and bruises. Please provide additional information.
Passenger front seat belt locks where passenger is not able to move at all.the other seat belts do not do this.due to law with using seat belts at all times this is a problem is an accident happens.plus, passenger is uncomfortable when traveling long distances being stuck in on position and not being able to move at all.
The personnel setting system that you can program your seat position and other functions in has failed on numerous occasions. This causes the seat to shove you into the daschboard or all the way back to the furthest position. I asked gm to fix this and i was given by the service manager at o'connor gmc augusta, maine the print out of a bulletin that states that it is a software problem and there is "no fix available at this time" and it states the technician should do nothing to try to fix this. It is bulletin #04-08-50-016 dated 8/19/04.
Traveling south, ny rt. 12.attempted to slow for a right turn.signal on, towing an empty trailer approx weight 2000 lbs.applied the service brake for the turn, pedal went to floor, no brakes.luckily no incident.examined the underneath and found that the steel brake lines were routed over the frame on the driver side (underneath body under the driver door.)when brake line(s) failed, there were no sign of any braking ability.both the front and rear brake systems were inoperable. The lines had rusted through from apparently road salt or (?),creating a very dangerous situation.since the incident i have spoke with several other drivers who have experienced the same failure.
While driving, needed to slow down for traffic light and the brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to still drive it, as the brakes would stop the truck eventually. Cause was the rusted rear brake line that ruptured. Cost to fix was $400.00in addition, on 12.27.13, i had the front wheel bearing replaced at a cost of $525.00. The truck only has 66,600 miles on it.
Had to stop suddenly at about 20 mph. Brake lines burst due to corrosion. All lines had to be replaced. Cost $756.87 for replacement.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the brake lines and fuel pump was corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician verified the failure and replaced both the brake lines and fuel pump. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
I was i 91 south heading in to hartford ct, traffic was heavy and as a result i was traveling appx 20 mph as i entered the ramp exit lane.i stepped on brake pedal and the pedal went to the floor, fortunately i was able to veer into the breakdown lane and avoid hitting other cars.i slowly made it to my place of employment and later had the truck towed home. As it turns out i discovered the all brake lines had corroded and had to be replaced.i contacted gm as i thought it very unusual for all brakes lines to be so severely corroded. They attributed the severe corrosion to the fact that the truck was 10 years old and refused to cover the expense and considered the case closed.by doing a simple internet search i found that this same problem is quite common and my mechanic also informed that gm ( possibly as a result of this being a common issue) has made a available abrake line replacement kit.
Brake line failure as an emergency stopping procedure was in place.vehicle eventually stopped, but rear ended the forward vehicle.brake line corrosion in hard piping was diagnosed as the problem as the hard brake line ruptured.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while reversing into her residential garage, the brakes failed. The contact mentioned that after inspecting the vehicle, she noticed that one of the brake lines had fractured and all the rest of the brake lines were completely corroded. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 78,000.
I was backing out of the driveway and the brakes went to the floor. The brake lines were severely rusted. They look like the are 50 years old.
The brake line ruptured on my 2004 gmc sierra 1500 pick up truck - inspected by a certified mechanic, all remaining lines need to be change due to corrosion.
I was taking my 4 yr old to school this morning with his 1 yr old sister when the brakes completely failed. Upon approaching a red stoplight at 30 miles per hour with three cars stopped ahead of me i pressed the brake pedal and it went completely to the floor. I pulled gearshift to the low position and swerved into the vacant left hand turning lane to avoid the cars stopped at the light. Then turned hard right as to not enter the busy intersection in front of me with no avail. Somehow we were not hit by another vehicle. At that timei pulled vehicle over to the shoulder of the road which ended abruptly and turned into a grassy area of a baseball field where the vehicle finally came to a stop.gm states that if there is a brake line failure the vehicle still has braking ability. I can tell you first hand that is a totally falsestatement. My vehicle dash did not display any problem prior to this incident. When vehicle was tow to my home i put key in the ignition to check my mileage and now a brake failure message is displayed.i am very angry with gm for not notifying me of this problem and never had any idea there was an on going issue until today. Myself and my two children could have been killed today because of this neglect. Please do something to rectify this problem because many more gm vehicle will have this problem and innocent people and their families will be hurt or even die.
Burst steel brake line due to corrosion. Was towing a trailer at the time. All brake lines had to be replaced due to severe corrosion. Still have malfunctioning front abs due to corrosion affecting the wheel sensors.
Driving on the freeway, i stepped on the brakes to slow down as traffic was heavy in a area that is slow in the morning. The brakes started to slow me down, then without warning the pedal went to the floor and i could not slow the truck. I took action and moved onto the next lane to avoid a crash. I continued to apply the brakes which only worked a little bit until i came to a stop. I had the truck towed to my house. Upon inspection, one of the four brake lines that run along the outside of the frame under the drivers seat had burst due to extensive rust. In fact all four of the brake lines in this location had extensive rust. I had to have all for replaced.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the brake lines were completely rusted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage 200,000.
On december 28, 2014 i was driving my 2004 gmc pick-up truck and suffered total loss of brakes. This happened as i was approaching an intersection and i narrowly avoided an accident. There was no warning prior to the brake failure - no warning light was on, and no gradual decrease in braking ability. After the failure, i determined that there was a sudden and massive leak of brake fluid from a rusted brake line. Previously, in april of 2014 i had my pick-up truck serviced at an authorized gmc service center. At that time, the service ticket referenced condition of brakes to be in yellowrequiring future attention. It was my understanding that the issue at that time was brake rotors would need to be replaced at the next service interval. There was no mention of any potential danger from brake line rusting/failure. Upon researching vehicle issues on the web i have discovered that there seems to be an inordinate number of brake line failures for vehicles of my type. It appears gmc has refused to issue a recall. I had my vehicle towed to the gmc dealer and had them replace rusting brake lines ($801.64). The replacement gmc brake lines installed are of a different (improved) design - they have a painted/protective coating on them, which appears to be an attempt to address past premature brake line failure issues.
I was driving in a 40 mph street when i noticed the traffic signal was about to turn red when i applied the brakes the pedal when down to the floor i lost all brakes i slowed down by down shifting the transmission and applying the emergency brake. When i pulled over there was brake fluid leaking all over under drivers side door. Upon inspection i noticed the brake lines rusted out and lost all fluid. I could have been killedthere was no warning. I needed to have my brake lines replaced i believe this is a start of something bad if gm doesn't act on this problem.
Lost brakes at stop light . Found all break lines rusted.
I experienced a brake line failure on my 2004 gmc sierra crew cab pickup truck.i was traveling at a slow rate of speed and coming up to a traffic light and the brake pedal pushed all the way to the floor board.the rear emergency brake was used to stop the vehicle.i found the area around the brake module, in the frame area under the driver's area, soaked with brake fluid and corroded brake lines.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the brake pedal became stuck to the floor board. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who inspected the vehicle and found that the rear brake line was leaking due to corrosion. The rear brake line was replaced. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 97,047 and the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.updated 11-04-13updated 11/8/2013
When coming to a red light i tried to stop my truck. Upon pressing the brake peddle the first time i started to slow down. Upon pressing the brake peddle the second time, the peddle when to the floor and did not slow me down. I had to run the red light and us my e brake to slow down and finally stop at a gas station. While waiting for aaa to pick me up noticed brake fluid coming out from under drivers side. Truck was towed to my son's house. After looking under the truck he told me the brake lines from the front of the truck had broken. He suggested we replace all the brake lines, which we did. All the original lines were rotting away. When we removed the brake lines they all broke into pieces . We replaced all the original lines with stainless steel lines at cost of $400.00 plus i found a front and a rear calipers frozen, so i replaced all the brakes and calipers. There is no way the brake lines on a 8 year old truck should be found in this shape. The original lines looked like aluminum coated steel.
After exiting onto the highway and attempting to brake to make a right turn i experienced catastrophic brake failure. When the brake pedal was applied there was no pressure, and the pedal went straight to the floor. No warning lights or sensors were activated before the total brake failure. The vehicle was towed to a local gmc dealership. The dealership advised me that the brake line "blew out" from the front left caliper because of rust. I researched such problems and found that similar complaints were numerous and that the nhtsa had initiated aninquiry/investigations into excessive rust on brake components of gmc vehicles causing this type of total brake failure.
My mother borrowed my truck to run an errand on her way home she called to tell me that the "service brake system" message had appeared in the dic. Moments later the vehicle lost all stopping ability. Thankfully due to the combonation of an empty road good driving no collision ocured. This morning i go to invegistate to find complete rust through on two of the steel hydraulic lines located just behind the drivers front wheel. All steel lines in this truck brake, fuel, and, transmission cooler have similar extensive rust damage. This is extremely dangerious and will be expensive to repair as to ensure safety all metal lines will need changing. I came to find out that not only is this a very common issue with these trucks but that gm is doing nothing to help owners nor do they offer correct quality oe style replacement lines. I was qouted over $1000 by two seperate dealers in my area. My truck is well taken care of and is driven much less than the national average this failure has truly upset me i dont see buying another gm product in the future.
Brake lines completed rusted out. Purchased from a gmc/chevy dealer with no notice of this issue. They knew about the issue and this should have been fixed. Still no recall. I guess not enough people have died yet.
Driving on west stone drive kingsport, tn, a vehicle cut me off trying to get thru a traffic light, i locked my brakes down hard as i could, i could feel the abs system working, i was able to stop about 12 inches from the other vehicle.when i pulled out after the light changed to green, i was traveling down a slight grade, depressing my brake pedal lightly, the pedal went all way to the floor board..i took the truck to a local shop to have it checked, one of the brake lines behind left front wheel had ruptured.when the mechanic started the repairs, he called said all lines on this truck were extremely rusty, (he asked what i wanted to do) i said fix it right.in making the repairs all lines were replaced..i have pictures of all lines that can be sent. I also have all of the brake lines that can be looked at and or analyzed.
I had not driven my truck in a few months due to other problems with the ventilation controls. While beginning to prepare the truck to tow a 3500 pound boat i needed to reposition the truck in my driveway. The driveway slopes down to the street.while moving the truck, on my driveway, the brake pedal went completely to the floor. Pumping the brakes was not able to stop the truck that was traveling at idle speed. All braking wasgone and the truck rolled down the driveway and into traffic on my street. By turning off the engine and coasting to a stop (in gear) just avoided an accident.after getting the truck back in my driveway i found two distinct puddles of brake fluid under the truck. Inspecting the brake lines showed that there were at least two differentfailure points in the brake lines. One closer to the master cylinder and another a few feet further back. I believe one failure occurred in the front brake circuit and the other was in the rear brake circuit which led to the *complete* loss of braking. This is contrary to gm claims that this failure can not lead to total brake loss.i have pictures and video of the failure points that i can forward if needed.
Again. My truck had complete brake failure again due to corrosion on the steel lines. This is an otherwise nice truck with brake lines that look like they've been in the ocean their entire lives. Gm dealer quoted over $1,700 to fix. Gm owned warranty company refuses to cover repair. Gm customer service tells me to pound sand.
I left my house for work and approx. 3 blocks from my house i attempted to slow down to make a right hand turn.i pressed on the brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor.i had no brakes.at this time and this was the first time, the brake light on the dash came on.i was driving at 30 mph with no brakes, i coasted into a parking lot and used the parking brake to stop the truck.outside and under the drivers door of the 2004 sierra extended cab there was brake fluid leaking.the 8 year old truck had rusted brake lines that failed.my concern is that i lost all brakes without warning.after a little research i noticed many of these trucks have the same problem.they are 5000 pound torpedos on the road and without warning.will something be done before a serious accident occurs?i tried contacting gmc via their website e-mail but an error message occurred.try a complaint on their site.....it don't work!!!
Started out when brake fluid started leaking from the truck. Brake pedal went to the floor. Luckily did not happen when was driving. Found out the brake lines were rusted and was leaking and the repair cost would be over $1200. Looking on the internet this looks to be a known for certain gmc/chevy year trucks.
Rusted brake line
Brake lines had rusted out and burst so the brakes failed to stop the truck. Truck was on a down hill incline and went through a stop light (fortunately it was late at night and there was no crossing traffic.) had to replace all the brake lines.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra denali. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal was able to be fully depressed but did stop the vehicle. The vehicle was downshifted and the parking brake was applied when the brake warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was left to be towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.
Vehicle in front of me stopped suddenly. My brakes failed as my foot/pedal hit the floor. All i heard was buzzing. I hit the vehicle in front of me. Mechanic showed me the rusted out brake line that failed. Advised me that the abs pump just plan emptied my mc to make up pressure loss. My complaint isn't so much the fact that my brake line rusted out as it is a 10 year old truck, (although stainless lines with steel connectors would be a huge improvement). But my complaint is that the abs systems in these trucks, and maybe other vehicles are flawed. Back before abs came out, if a line was damaged or failed for whatever reason the separated reservoirs in mc's would at least give you front or rear brakes to stop. That was the best single design improvement manufacturers made to brakes, and i've been driving when mc's only had one reservoir. To have a complete mc drained for a line failure is ludicrous.
All fuel and brakes like rotted.the brakes failed for the second time. One brake line was previously replaced approx. 1 year ago.both times vehicle needed to be towed for repair.total cost for most recent replacement/repair was $1202.13.
Brake lines rusted and failed causing the brake pedal to go to the floor.
I had just had the truck inspected. Was driving home and two blocks from the inspection station when i came to a red light. When i stepped on the brakes the pedal went to the floor. Fortunately i reacted quickly enough touse the parking brake to stop the truck and keep from rear ending the car that was already stopped. After pulling into parking lot and inspecting the brakes i noticed a puddle under the front left of the truck. Looking closer i found the brake line had rusted through. I returned to the shop where i had the inspection done. He repaired the one line that had burst. I was informed that the other lines looked rusted and ready to burst at anytime.
Upon applying brakes to shift into reverse, pedal went to floor and all warning lights came on. Had truck towed to garage, and upon inspection a metal brake line had rusted out. After replacing brake line garage was bleeding brakes and another line failed. Was told by mechanic that i should have all the metal lines replaced because of sever rusting of the metal. This seems to be more prevalent in general motors than any other brand. I was told that the use of salt brine solution in our area for winter freezing is the reason behind this. I was told that the mechanic is seeing at least one vehicle a week with this problem.
Brake fluid all leaked and i barely stopped the truck on my home driveway. Dealer says i need to replace all four metal brake lines.
After having a gm dealer perform oil change, perhaps 1/4 mile down the street from their facility encountered traffic stopped at an intersection in front of me. Applied the brakes to find that they felt mushy, and before completely stopping went to the floor. I used the parking brake to bring the vehicle to a stop without crashing into the cars in front of me. When the light turned green i nursed the vehicle into a parking lot using the parking brake and looked under the hood and could find no issue, the weather was very wet and sloppy, and light snow so i could not see the tell tale fluid leakage from a brake line. Because i had lost all braking i assumed that the master cylinder had failed. I had changed all calipers, rotors and pads several months before, and at 140,000 thought that the master cylinder failing would be unusual, but the only thing that would cause complete failure. After replacing the master i attempted to bleed the system only to find that the problem remained. Now that the under hood area was completely dry it was clear that the failure was rust through at a point the line to the left front wheel was in contact with the frame rail below the master cylinder. The oil change had probably caused movement of the line resulting in the failure. Moving some of the other lines made it apparent that all of the hard lines were shot. The slightest movement caused them to fracture. Worse than that, they were all encased in a "shell" of rust from one end to the other, concealing how fragile and dangerous they really were. Repair estimates were anywhere from $800 (local mechanics) to $3,400 (gm dealer). Lovely.i had a 1994 s10 blazer that i sold a couple of years ago with 290,000 miles on it, original brake lines and all. Changed the lines myself in a weekend for $120.00, the gm parts guy new exactly what i needed and had the "kit" in stock, what a surprise.
All brake lines arerusted about into... One busted,i had been on interstate for two hours and luckily i pulled into mydriveway and lost all brakes. Brake lines should not be in such a rusted state for this truck, gm should be made to recall for this problem ... This islife threatening under such conditions! and should be addressed as soon as possible.
Still wonder how these issues got swept under the rug.
Brake pedal had no pressure and went to the floor. Truck wouldn't stop. Later i noticed a brake fluid leak. There was no leak before the incident and brakes worked perfectly earlier in the day. If i hadn't been in a parking lot and out on the road, there would certainly have been an accident.
I was coming down a hill near my home & tapped on the brakes to slow down.suddenly alarm bells started dinging, the engine warning light came on & "service brakes immediately" popped up on the message center.the brake pedal was slightly softer than normal but i made it home ok.the following day i took the truck to my mechanic to have him check out the problem.much the same as many others have complained about, all four brake lines between the master cylinder & the abs controller were badly rusted out while one had failed completely (causing the alert/alarm).the lines from the abs controller to the individual wheels are also completely rusted but as of now haven't failed.he replaced the one ruptured line & suggested that i have the others done as soon as possible as they all look very bad.looking at the undercarriage of the vehicle there was very little overall rust on any other components or the frame, just on the brake lines.estimated cost for replacing all the lines as needed - $800.
Brake lines rusted through at left side just below drivers door, which resulted in a loss of brakes!!!!!after further inspection all brakes lines are severely rusted and must be replaced.this is only a 2004 truck!!!!!!!!
My vehicle has 76,800 miles and all of the brake lines are rusted and need to be replaced. I understand that there may be a recall for this problem. Please forward any information related to this issue.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving less than 10 mph, the abs engaged independently. The vehicle was not taken for inspection or repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). In addition, the contact lso stated that the passenger's side tailgate became fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40000.
Entire brake line failure do to rusted brake lines.
2004 gmc sierra z71 off road vehicle brakes. (nar) *mrwhen applying the brakes the consumer feels that the stopping distance is not commensurate with the brake pedal pressure.once the vehicle is stopped the brake pedal moves towards the floorboard to within one half inch.the consumer request a detailed response explaining the reasons for the truck's brake pedal over travel and "mushy" brake pedal.
2004 gmc sierra poor brake response.
When attempting to stop on dry pavement, the abs activates at a very low speed, approx 5mph, the truck will not stop as expected. Almost caused my wife and kids to hit vehicle in front.mechanics have stated this is a common problem with gm trucks and the hub with speed sensor will need replaced or repaired at owner expense.
I experience brake pedal pulsation (low speed abs activation) when rolling to a stop.my gmc onstar report says there is nothing wrong with my abs braking system yet i have this problem.the problem seems to be rusted and/or froze up wheel speed sensors as verified by two different mechanics.i understand they were recalls by gmc of other trucks experiencing this same problem.i really hate to pay $750 for new front wheel bearing assemblies.i want my truck recalled for this problem.there is a gmc technical bulletin 03-05-25-007d.i am not sure the abs will function properly when really needed??
All brake lines on my 2004 gmc sierra pickup are rotted and need to be replaced, the truck has 48,014 miles on it. General motors needs to step up and assume responsibility for this before someone is seriously hurt or killed, if no one has been already.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated when he accelerated and attempted to shift gears, the brakes were applied and the brake pedal extended completely to the floor board.the vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed that the brake line was defective and would need to be repaired. The vehiclewas repaired.the manufacturer was notified, but did not assist with the failure.the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
2004 gmc sierra brakes fail when there is snow on the ground.the brakes would grab and grind while braking which caused extended stopping distance.the brakes work properly on dry surfaces.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra.the contact stated that while braking for an approaching traffic stop, the brakes traveled to the floorboard abnormally. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred.the failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 86,000.
While at our town dump on the 2nd of november of 2011, i proceeded from 1 drop off location to the next (as usual), when as i slightly depressed my brake pedal to slow, the pedal went right to the floor. I almost ran into another vehicle had i not depressed my emergency brake. There was nowhere to turn to as vehicles were everywhere, "wow"! not knowing what was wrong, i continued to the next drop off point with virtually no brakes. I used the e-brake again to stop. I told the dump attendant what just happened and he said, "that's probably why you're spewing what looks like brake fluid from your left rear. Sure enough, upon inspection the line blew. I got the vehicle to the local gmc dealer. Long story short, they wanted $360 to fix the brake line. [xxx] the service manager said it looks like the rest of the lines don't have much time left either. "not good!" i got the vehicle home, called my son who is a mechanic for a local jeep dealer and he fixed the last foot or so of the brake line where it blew. He said "dad come here". He showed me under the hood where the visiblebrake lines are virtually rotted and probably ready to go.i am partially disabled and out of work. I couldn't afford to have the dealer replace the whole brake line let alone now having to replace all the lines!i saw on the internet that this is an ongoing problem. Why is there no recall on this? if i were somewhere else going even faster, this could have been bad. Why are the car companies not required to use higher quality/more corrosive resistant lines? yes i understand that would raise the sticker price, but for a life? this is brakes on something that rolls at very high speeds we're talking about here and nothing is being done about it as far as i can see? plus my truck is less than 7 years old as well as all these other vehicles and i had only 84,375 miles on it when it happened. Recall?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Crash: 1) traveling on interstate at 55-60 mph2) poor braking ability to stop vehicle during panic stop.
Whiledriving 5 mph consumer lost power steering and braking control. Consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Consumer stateshe stepped onto the brake pedal and heard a loud explosion under the hood. The consumer immediately lost brakes and steering and smoke also poured from under the vehicle.once he vehicle was stopped the consumer exited the vehicle and saw fluid pouring from the vehicle onto the ground.the hood was opened and the consumer saw the vehicle was taken to two different dealer but the found nothing wrong.the dealer replaced the hydrobooster assembly accumulator which had come apart.
Rigid brake lines from the master cylinder to the abs module rusted through causing a catastrophic failure of the hydraulic brake system.
Dt: contact states the brakeshave a very soft pedal.it doesn't seem that the anti- lock brake system is working.to make the vehicle stop the pedal has to be pressed all the way to the floor.the service dealer states this is a characteristic of the vehicle.the weather conditions have no influence on the braking capability of the vehicle.the consumer has contacted the manufacturer.
Dt:the contact stated while applying the brakes it was difficult to stop the vehicle.the vehicle slid before it came to a complete stop.there was extended stopping distances when trying to stop the vehicle.the dealer could not duplicate the problem with the brakes.
Dt:while driving and approaching a stop sign, consumer hit the brakesand the abs activated as if there were no brakes.consumer had to let off again and push brakes again to stop.by that time vehicle had rolled out in the road past the stop sign.this was the second time something like this had happened.no repair work performed.probably was under 10 mph when abs activated.
Dt: the consumer stated that the 2004 gmc sierra was having problems with the brakes. The vehicle had no stopping power. The consumer informed gm about this problem a year ago and they have worked on this problem several times trying to fix the brakes. However, the problem recurred.today the consumer was waiting on gm to get back in contact with his dealership. The consumer talked to thedealership last week and they still had not heard from gm.the hold up on the consumer getting the brakes fixed was gm doing the work under warranty.speed was not a factor in the braking power.*mr the consumer stated gm did contacted him and they decided they were not going to do anything more to fix the brake problem.
While drivingabs brake light appeared on the dashboard intermittently. Consumercontacted dealer, but problem still occurs.
When returning from a trip, the truck was shut off and the ignition key was removed. The truck continued to run, flashed code p0758, check 4wd, check brakes, abs failure. The truck did this for two days while driving home and would stay running without the key from 2 to 16 minutes and could be put into gear and driven, all without the key.
Dt: purchased vehicle in november 2003, and on 12-22-03 had a minor accident.this occurred at a low speed at which consumer tapped another vehicle from behind.tookvehicle to a dealer. Hechecked the vehicle diagnosticians via computer, but the codes checked out as well as a test drive and inspection from the service department.this checked out as adequate, no problems found.about 2 months later, experienced a similar accident.consumer called gm to inquire about this problem.again taken to dealer, and no problem found. 5-7-05 experienced another accident that resulted in 3 injuries.the accident happened as consumer was approaching an intersection from about a distance of 60 feet and traveling about 45 mph when applied brake failure and suffered a complete failure with no brakes at all."brakes would not even grab."glided through intersection striking another vehicle that resulted in 3 injuries.took to dealer who checked vehicle and again found nothing wrong yet consumer feels as though brakes are not functioning properly.
Abs brake system activates at stops.had to pump brakes to stop vehicle.dealer had to replace corroded front wheel speed sensors.sensors should last longer than four years, should last the life of the vehicle.cost $378 to repair.
While applying the brakesthe pedal went to floor.driver noticed that the pedal was hard, andvehicle would stop on its own. Driver took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that disc brakes and power booster needed to be replaced.
2004 gmc sierra pickup truck, notice brake problems at about 12,000 miles took truck to dealer to see what problem was, concerned was wearing brake rotors in front end, was told that rotors were defected from manufacturer thy were turned wrong at factory, they tried to correct problem by turning them at dealer problem returned at 30,000 miles, went back to dealer to correct problem then front rotors were replaced and rear rotors were turned also, again at about 34,000 miles problems with rear rotors occurred they refused to warranty themi feel that there's a wider problem then just a few truck and s.u.v. And a recall and a inspection should be done on all rotors from this year of manufacturing should be done for safety reasons i did save the rear rotors for measurement in the future if needed.
Dt:the contact stated the front brake lines were rubbing against the caliper, causing a hole/loss of fluid, and failure in the brakes.the vehicle was taken to a dealership, where they replaced the brake line, and placed a rubber boot where the wearing occurred.the dealership said defect was a result of the suspension modification to the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to another mechanic, who stated the rubber boot would not stop the wearing, and the modification could not have caused the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact was driving 30 mph when a clunking noise emitted from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice and the dealer confirmed on both occasions that the failure was caused by the design of the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired and the vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 94,000.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the vehicle emitted a loud explosive noise. The contact attempted to reverse however, the vehicle would not respond because the steering wheel was separated from the arm and the bolt had become shredded.the vehicle was towed to a mechanic where an inspection was performed. The dealer advised the contact that the steering box and pitman arm bolt had shredded from the tie rod center link.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the failure and current mileage was 79,000.
When turning left the steering wheel squeaks. When taking minor bumps on the road there's a rattling or a pulsing feeling coming from the steering wheel/column. Driver door made a rattling noise (which was fixed) and there was a pumping noise coming from under the dash board by the floor (which was fixed).
While driving vehicle you get a loud thump and shake from the steering wheel. This happens at any speed, when the vehicle hits a bump in the road or turning. This problem has been traced to the steering shaft on all chevrolet and gmc pickups from that year.
Clunk noise that can be felt through steering column when traveling over rough pavement and is more pronounced when turning the wheel to the left. Manufacturer has known of this problem for several years and still has failed to correct it for many customers. Most dealer service centers tell customers that they can take care of the problem by lubricating the upper intermediate shaft of the steering column. This works for many but is just a temporary fix as it has been reported by many that the problem returns and in most cases after the warranty period has expired. Some owners have reported returning to the dealership as many as 5 times.
My concern is one for trying to prevent a future accident.i own a gmc sierra 2500 pickup and the upper intermediate steering shaft has been replaced once and in going out again.this all within 40,000 miles.i feel there is an issue with the design of the part.my concern is that if the steering shaft fails, the driver would lose control of the vehicle.
Consumer states:set 2 yr old son in passenger seat took keys out of seat laid in console, child stuck key in switch turned enough to turn on gears without touching braking. Talk to gm said they were designed
Consumer complained about asteering problem. The steeringlocked up. Took vehicle to the dealer, andalso contacted the manufacturer. Consumer was told that the manufacturer was aware of the defect. However, the service technician at the dealer did not know how to repair the problem.

Consumerwas unable to turn right or left.however, consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and took it to the dealer for inspection.mechanicdetermined that the shaft sector needed to be replaced.
Dt: contact states since 7-04 had steering problems.in 3-05 he received a letter from gmc stating that they extended the warranty to 2-11 or 100,000 miles because of all of the problems he had been having with the car.his warranty was about to run out and he was still having the same problems with his truck. He was goingto forward other pertinent documents laterconcerning the numerous repair work he has done.
Clunking noise on front driver side of 2004 gmc 1500 with 33000 miles. Was in at dealer today and they said they could only temporarily fix problem. Was intermediate steering section and gm had not found fix for it. Said that the clunking would return in few months. They put new grease in.what am i to do when warranty expires in 3000 miles and it returns? is this going to cause loss of control and even worse?
While driving at 30-40 mph, the consumer heard a clumping noise coming from the bottom of truck.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and who tried to fix the vehicle, but gmc would not the allow dealer to work on the vehicle.
This vehicle was bought brand new and represented as such. Upon delivery of the vehicle, my husband noticed the bed was 2 crooked on the body. The vehicle was returned to leachman motors who in turn stating it was a factory defect. The attempted to repair the vehicle by bending the frame. This was unacceptable. Gm blames leachman - leachman blames gm and we have returned the vehicle to leachman but continue to make truck payments of $452. So as not to ruin our credit. Now we have no truck and no-one is helping us!! this truck was sold as a brand new vehicle. For $34,000. We should have a perfect truck - not one with a bent frame and crooked bed!
The contact took the vehicle to another mechanic, who stated the rubber boot would not stop the wearing, and the modification could not have caused the problem.

On 7/10/05, while pulling my camper, which is a 04 gmc 2500hd, bought new to pull this camper, i experienced a flat r/r tire with-in 40 miles on the truck.on 7/11/04 i experienced 2 flat tires on this truck due to defective valve stems.after checking with other chevrolet/gmc owners at campgrounds, there is a major safety problem with the rubber valve stems.i ended up having to have steel valve stems installed on the side of the road due to tire failure and replacing two tires that only had 13,500 miles on them. The service repairman explained that due to heat buildup on the tires, the rubber valve stems will not accept the heat, and fail.i had three failures in two days due to this, which could have caused a serious accident and injury
1st broken flywheel replaced; now 05/31/05 back in for 2nd fly wheel replacement.
The consumer had the truck for approximately 1 year and there have been 6 recalls and he has not been notified of any of these recalls.the consumer is still driving vehicle.
The vehicle would jerk forward 6 inches when started.this would occur when the vehicle was in the park position.the dealer told the consumer that nothing could be done.the problem also could not be duplicated. *sc
2004 gmc sierra pickup with a bad icp)giving the wrong speedometer reading. Is this not a safety issue? to be in a vehicle that is not giving the correct speed. Cost for this repair is anywhere from $400 to $650.why has there not been a recall on this from gmc. I have read pages on pages of people having the same problem and getting soaked for this money. Gmc should be taking care of this problem not me.
Vehicle lurches forward upon start while the gear shift is in park. *mr the service department suggested that nothing could be done. *sc
Erratic speedometer - after 20-30min. Driving, needle will suddenly drop to 10mph and your still at 55 or higher.will eventually go to 0.once vehicled cools down, speedometer seems to work again, temporarily.
My speedometer went from working normally to now it sticks at various speeds at a stand still 70 to 80 mph or not working at all or over 100 mph when driving probably 30 mph am not sure how fast i am going.after researching to see if any others were having the same problem i found that many gm customers are experiencing the same problem with their speedometer. Some of them actually paying thousands of dollars while others are paying 4-7 hundred and still having the same problem hours later after paying to have it fixed. I called a nearby gmc dealer and asked if there was a recall for the speedometers they said that there was not but that they were getting a lot of calls for the same problem and that there was a lot of concern. I would like to request a recall of the speedometer equipment on 2004 gm trucks .
1) after passing 50,000 on my 04 gmc sierra2) speedometer stop working correcting resulting in two speeding tickets this past summer.3) i took it to the dealer to only hear, it will cost you around $800.00 to fix.
Taking first road trip with 2004 gmc sierra (3 moths old)in the middle of the nevada desert.the car was in cruise mode at 70mph and is just stalled.this happend at least 4 times over a stretch of 50 miles.pulled to side of road and sat each time for about 15 minutes-(apparent cooling time)-and was able to re-start truck.we made it to bishop california dealer who tested it for lean fuel values but no engine light came on.they told us that they had seen several instances similar and suggested replacing the fuel pump.the fuel pumps seem to be over heating or acting up in higher altitudes.part was unavailable for 10 days.we drove to reno in an effort to get it fixed at shop up there-part was thought to be available per dealership in reno but was not-the dealership was wrong.made the trip back home (las vegas) with no further issues.drove in the night when it was cooler and kept fuel tank filled.las vegas dealership refuses to do anything since there is no further failure.i am a parapeligic and think that i should be able to expect a new vehicle to be reliable.i was also astonished that on star was unuseful in the middle of the desert so it would have done me no better than a cell phone at this point.we drive the truck only short distances in vegas and have not had any further issues 3 weeks later.afraid to rely on it to go out of town though.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact stated the vehicle was repaired under a possible silent recall to replace the sun roof glass.after the vehicle was repaired, the contact stated there was a leak in the sun roof. The dealer was notified and made an offer to the contact and told the contact to speak with the dealer who sold him the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 45,065.
While driving the sideview mirror folds inward . The owner's manual stated that this was a normal procedure.
The right side power extending camper style mirrors on my 2004 gmc sierra 2500hd pickup truck has blind spots that will not allow you to see cars on the right side of the truck. You either adjust the mirror out and pointing down to see cars on the right side or you point the mirror towards the rear of the truck to see the back corner of the truck to back up to things. But you can not see both at once.
Consumer had difficulty seeing while driving due to a blind spot when it was in reverse. Passenger's side mirror had trouble telescoping to the back.

Windshield wiper motor failure. The wipers kept operating at low speed with the switch position being irrelevant. Only 44500 mi. On the vehicle. Since, the motor control module is not available separately the complete motor assembly had to be replaced.
