I was parked on a sloped driveway (about 10 - 15 degrees). I started the engine, stepped on the brake pedal and took the car out of park into drive. Brake pedal was normal. I started to roll forward and when i pushed the brake pedal the car did not slow. I slammed the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor. At this point i went off the end of the driveway onto a 45 degree downward sloped lawn; then into a wooded area at the top of a ravine. I slammed into a tree. The car was judged a total loss by my insurance company. I did not get a brake warning light. The airbags did not deploy. The car was serviced at a union park gmc (wilmington, de) two days prior. Including brake inspection. Cause of brake failure was determined to be ruptured brake line. Both front and rear brakes were failed.

The passenger seat does not allowconsumer to ride with the airbag on. You have to be 120lbs or over before the airbag work properly.ph

Consumerwas traveling 70 mph, andwas unable able to maintain control of the vehicle. It crashed into ditch.both frontal air bags did not deploy.no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to the dealer.consumerhad after market product foose wheel.while drivingpassenger's side wheel sheared off.this caused the accident. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

Inaccurate speedometer - after an hour with cruise control set on 65 mph during each down hill segment the speedometer would increase about two miles per hour. On the up hill segment it did not decrease to 65. After the second downhill segment it read 67, the next it read 69, after about 20 up hill, down hill cycles, speedometer indicated over 100 mph.the rpm was about 1900 which is about 65 mph.when i stopped for gas, the speedometer rested at 42 mph.over the next several days it worked back to zero when the vehicle was stopped.one week later the event occurred again.today i spoke to the service advisor at my dealership and he showed me a list of people waiting for "instrument clusters" for this same problem.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and the engine was turned off when he heard a noise and noticed that the air conditioning blower had independently activated.the failure recurred and the battery was disconnected in order to deactivate the blower motor. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer where the blower motor resister was replaced.the manufacturer was made aware of the defect and they informed there was no recall. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.

Driving 2003 sierra 2500 hd 4wd crew cab and all of sudden the speedometer needle quit stopped on zero and never moved.then the instrument gauges or cluster completely stopped working.the defective stepper motor in the cluster is the problem.

The speedometer in the truck registers false mph.for example when parked the speedometer reads 50 mph, when traveling on the road the speedometer will register 80 mph and the actual speed may be only 30 mph.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra hd. The contact stated that the wiring system caused the battery and the alternator to malfunction. In addition, the dash cluster malfunctioned and the reduced engine power warning light remained illuminated. The contact had to restart the vehicle for the dash cluster to function properly. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where he was advised that there was an unknown electrical issue with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired the failure mileage was 170,000.

Vehicle goes into reduced engine power mode at interstate speeds without warning and increases risk of being rear ended, does not have enough power to safely get the vehicle off the road when in the left lane with other cars behind.more instances of this same scenario over the past few months than i can count.throttle body has been cleaned.there are too many internet forum posts detailing many different parts having been replaced by dealerships and other mechanics and the problem still existing to just start replacing parts because the costs too quickly is unsustainable.

Speedometer working erratically or not working at all.very dangerous as we were on the freeway when it happened.

Speedometer stopped working on my 2003 gmc sierra. It is stuck on 65 mph.

The transmission clunks when shifting from 2nd - 3 rd and at times the engine will rev and finally it will take off, this has caused an issue when going through an intersection. The dealership attempted four repairs and it is not fixed. The issue started when the vehicle had 6k miles on it and it is getting worse.the speedometer is sporadic in that it will show speed reduction/increase in segments - as if it were sticking. The erroneous speed indication causes an issue when going too slow or too fast in traffic.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra.while driving approximately 65 mph under any conditions, the vehicle's odometer fails.the failure occurs when the vehicle stops and starts.the contact would have to shut the vehicle off and restart it in order to make the speedometer work properly.the failure occurs intermittently.the dealer stated that the instrument panel needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were 27,051.the speedometer would not function after driving 45 minutes when on cruise control. Updated 06/13/07.

Speedometer on 2003 gmc sierra fails constantly and when it works, it works erratically the heat gauge, and battery gauge work part of the time or erratically ordo not work at all.i've read message boards ofothers that have complained of the same problem on 2003 gmc.

2003 gmc sierra pick-up i was driving today about 45 to 50 miles an hour and was running great and about an hour later, my speedometer went up to 120 miles an hour and would not go back down. When i got home and put my vehicle in park, the speedometer would only go down to 70 miles an hour.i have almost 68,000 miles on it. What is wrong and what can i do to get this fixed immediately before i get a ticket?

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. The contact stated that all the gauges on the instrumental panel failed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the panel cluster failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000 updated 1/28/15

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra.the contact stated that the speedometer failed at various speeds.while idling at a stop sign, the speedometer would display 160 mph.while driving, the speedometer would remain at zero.the failure began on september 27, 2007 and has been occurring intermittently.the vehicle was taken in for repair on october 1, 2007.the current and failure mileages were 11,108.

Speedometer fails to work. It occurs continuously.nothing has been done to fix the problem.

The speedometer on many of the 01-06 model gmc/chev trucks including my 2003 gmc sierra will go out.the failure starts with the speedometer sticking 20-30 mph high and will function correctly with that delta.eventually this delta will grow and can only be reduced by starting the engine repeatedly. The speed will go down by a constant 5 mph each time you restart but this will eventually lead to burning a starter.this also leaves the driver to guess what the correct delta is.this morning the speedometer continued to climb even though i was going a constant 30 mph on a city street.i know this because i was spoke a friend that is a county sheriff that was clocking traffic at the time. The speedometer continued to climb up to the limit speed of 120 mph while i was still going 30 mph.the speedometer eventually passed 120 mph and rested at 245 degrees from the 0 position. This left me with zero speed indication whether it be a delta or true.this was a significant safety event and i didn't feel very safe driving the vehicle this way.after i arrived at work i began searching the web to find a solution, and that i did.i have found hundreds of people that have had the same problem in many gmc/chevrolet trucks.http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-tahoe/t2bgkbgi55eknu77c/p5 this widespread problem must be reviewed and in my opinion (i am a mechanical engineer for a large manufacturer) this should be fixed by the company at fault which is gm.this vehicle will be parked once i get it home and i will drive a different vehicle because this loss of a basic safety indication can be devastating to not only myself and family, but to all motorists.many people that i have spoken with are not fortunate enough to have a second vehicle and therefore plan on continued use of the faulty vehicle.this continued operation is unacceptable to safety and should be fixed.i was quoted a price of $2000 this morning to fix this safety issue on a 3 year old truck.

Speedometer failure while driving.. Had no idea how fast i was going, ended up getting a speeding ticket and had to get it repaired per police officer.

Speedometer started working intermittently, registering 80 mph at complete stop.would gradually reset to 0 mph at a stop then started registering 120 mph at complete stop and will not move off that speed.

I own a 2003 gmc sierra with 39,543 miles as of 3/5/07.a couple of months ago the speedometer began reading erratically and has now completely quit working.in doing some research on the internet i see i'm not the only person that is having this problem.

2003 gmc sierra. Consumer writes in regards to a speedometer failure. *tgwthe consumer stated she was driving 55 mph. However, the speedometer showed 100 mph. It went on for a couple of days and then went back to normal. The next day, the speedometer was acting erratic again.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, hoping it would be something small, but it turned out to be a $700 expense.

Speedometer failure. Replaced at a cost od approximately $450.00. Failure on my other truck. Gmc 2500hd 4x4 in 2006.

Instrument cluster inoperative.2003 gmc sierra pick up.received a letter from gm and due to the mileage they will not repair the cluster even though the vehicle is within the date range.the mileage listed is not reasonable since they only allow 10k per year.they were called when i received the letter at 104k and now at 111k they can only apologize for the problem but not fix it under warranty.i feel it is a safety issue but they do not.so i am having it fixed for almost 600 dollars with no help from gm.this should be a recall since they knewof the problem and it has occurred enough to warrant sending out letters notifying the owners of a potential problem.

The speedometer on my 2003 gmc sierra stopped working.first it would give inaccurate readings, then it stopped working all together.

Summer 2007 we received a notice from gmc for our 2003 gmc sierra that stated "your vehicle could develop a condition where one or more of the instrument panel gauge needles may stick, flutter, or become inoperative.this may cause inaccurate readings, including the speedometer and the fuel gauge."they offer to correct this problem if it occurs in vehicles within 7 years or 70,000 miles, whichever is less.our gmc sierra developed this condition recently at 5 years and 90,000.the speedometer began to display inaccurate speeds and eventually started erratically pulsing and sometimes displaying no speed.this is very unsafe to have this happen when you are driving.there are numerous entries online indicating that this has happened to many of the vehicles in the 5 year range, many just after the mileage cut off.displaying proper speed is important to safety and if their instrument panels are failing on multiple vehicles the manufacturer should be responsible for replacing them regardless of age or mileage.

1. Started vehicle and speedometer indicated 50 mph.speedometer increased as speed increased and decreased as speed decreased.when vehicle is turned off speedometer indicates 50 mph.2. Unable to correctly determine true speed of vehicle.3. None.

Driving my 2003 gmc sierra and the speedometer went out , it was going 100 miles per hour when i was going around 50 - 55 ? hard to tell it never right any more and i only have 58,000 on the odometer . This a safety problem and gmc should recall these clusters before people start getting hert because the speed is way of , and the dealers want use to pay around 1200.00 to fix.this is a gmc fix not.

On may 31st, the rear end differential assembly exploded sending the pinon thru the housing and the rear axle caught on fire.the truck was in the shop (perry cheverolet, inc., columbia, mo)until 6-9-03.when i arrived in bozeman, mt on 7-2-03 i was having problems with the wiring.there was a fire when i plugged the rv electrical plug into the truck's trailer plug.there was also a blown rear tail light bulb.in bozman, they replaced the complete wiring harness, the tow receptacle and 2 fuse kits.it was the opinion of the shop in bozeman (j.c.billion, gmc) that the wiring damage was part of the original fire and differential assembly damage.although gmc paid for my out of pocket expenses and for the waranty work, i am left to wonder what will happen next and just how safe am i going to be in this truck?i selected a truck bigger than what i needed at the current time, thinking that if i replaced my travel trailer in the future, i would not have to trade trucks also.

Dt: the contactcomplained aboutmany defects with this vehicle. The speedometer continually had an inaccurate read out while driving. The dealership believed this failure couldbe related to the wiring harness.since they were unable to duplicate the problem no repairs were done. Also, the vehiclestalledat various speeds without warning. While the stalling occurred the contact pressed hard on the brakes to elevate the stalling. He believed this was due to the power brakes. The vehiclestalled on occasion and would not immediately restart. The dealershipmade numerous attempts to correct this problem w and all attempts have been unsuccessful.thisincluded replacing the fuel pump andelectrical control module.

Day time running light burned out. When i went to replace it (still the original bulb) the bottom of the bulb was burnt bad and the plastic wiring socket was starting to melt around the bulb base. I changed the bulb and the light still comes on. I thought i better check the headlights. Changed those bulbs but the wires look like they are blistering from over heating. Never did blow a fuse. Seems to me like wires are too small for the amps the lights draw, especially the daytime lights. No fire yet but seems like this could possibly set things up for a fire.

Day time running light burned out. When i replaced it the bottom of the bulb was burned and the plastic wiring socket was partially melted and brittlearound the bulb base. I changed the bulb and the light still works. However, i also had trouble with one of my two horns not working, but after replacing the burned out bulb, both horns worked.wiring seems to be in series with horn(s) and burned out bulb disables horn.

My vehicle began losing coolant.i took the vehicle to a mechanic, who has told me that the cylinder head is cracked and leaking.this is due to faulty casting on the cylinder head.the coolant is leaking into the heads, and causing the oil to lose it's ability to protect the engine from wear.i have seen that there are many people with this issue, and it is a very costly repair.

I wrote gm on october 26, 2013 about my 2003 gmc sierra duramax diesel 6.6l 6l that just recently started billowing bluish black smoke constantly from the exhaust and costing an exorbitant amount of money in gas.i took it to the dealer (quality by dilorenzo in albuquerque, new mexico) and they informed me that there was a bulletin issued in october 2006 for leaking fuel injectors.they diagnosed my truck with the exact fuel injector problem.the truck only has 83,502 miles on it and i've been informed that the next time i take it for an emissions test (a requirement in new mexico) it will fail. I finally saved up enough money to go an outside repair shop on july 15, 2014 to get my fuel injectors replaced and the total came to $4763.78.i found out that there were two stripped bolts indicating that the fuel injectors were previously repaired (additional cost of$12 each to replace the 8 bolts).i called the original owner and he told me that the injectors were repaired under the original bulletin (04039) in june 2005 at tillery motors in belen nm.therefore, the fuel injectors were never really repaired properly in the first place.i have spoke to another women ([xxx]) at the gm customer service center.she is again elevating this issue to a specialist under gm id [xxx] for reimbursement of the total cost (standard 24-48 hour call back). Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra.while driving less than 10 mph in a busy parking lot, the contact depressed the brake pedal before completing a left turn and felt the brakes shaking.the brake pedal extended to the floor.he was able to maneuver the vehicle to safety and continued to apply the brakes.he allowed the vehicle to coast until it came to a complete stop.the dealer stated that the failure occurred due to corrosion of the brake lines.the manufacturer would not assist with the repairs due to the corrosion.the failure and current mileages were87,974. Updated 12/17/08. *ljthe rear main seal was leaking oil.the wheel speed sensor was replaced, due to the abs light illuminating. Updated 12/18/08.

Truck was entering major highway, traffic begins too slow due to rush hour ,seeing this occur i stepped on brakes expecting to slow down ,until i realized pedal had gone all the way to floor, then i let up an pushed to floor again-no brakes no room to go left or right impact was unavoidable, impacted car twice which pushed that car into another this truck was serviced by gm dealer for transmission cooling line and engine cooling linesmonday tuesday and wednesday, no mention of brake lines issue, accident occurred on friday. Also had contacted gm about original work re: possible warranty.updated 07/25/12 the consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 07/31/12

I own a 2003 gmc sierra with a diesel engine.i have had to replace the block heater 5x in the last 3 years.it quits about every 4 months during the "winter months" or the first time i plug it in after the summer it fails to work.

On february 18, 2003 i purchased a new 2003 truck the truck came with the service light on. When driving the 4x4 wheel light would come on as if the truck was in 4 wheel drive. The light would go off after stopping and shuting the truck off for at least 15 minutes. I went to the dealer and they said there was no fix at this time and they gave me a service bulletin, file in section:4-driveline axle bulletin no:03-04-21-001 date: february, 2003. I was told that if i was worried about the 4x4 engaging on its own while driving the only thing they could do was to disengage the 4x4 wheel drive at this time.i need to have the use of the 4x4 wheel drive as i own a large concrete construction company and use my truck all day long on jobsites. I left the dealer not knowing what to do. I was worried about damaging the 4x4 uniteven more on my new truck. So two weeks later i was tired of worrying, so i took the truck back to the dealer and they disengaged the 4 wheel drive. The service 4x4 wheeel light is still on at this time. I also filed a complaint with gmc on 3/27/03 #1-85090755. I have not heard fron the dealer in one month.

Oil leak at rear of the engine.the dealearship replaced the intake manigold gasgettwice, and replaced the valve cover gasget, twice.the truck has been taken into the dealership five times for this problem.

When at a stop, the vehicle vibrated and made noises.the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times.the dealer said it was normal.the vehicle had a rough idle and made loud noises when air conditioner was on. When turned off, it made a louder noise.the vehicle was taken to the dealer a total of five times since then. *ph

Engine check light kept coming on. The egr valve was stuck in the open position and will not close. Consumer was told not to panic, and to drive with the engine check light continuously on.

Excessive engine noise on my new gmc sierra 1500 series 4x4 pickup truck.i was told at 5000 miles on my first oil change that the engine sound was "normal" and they all sound like that.the dealer, martin gmc in fenton, michigan made that assertion.*la

I have a 2003 gmc sierra and the speedometer is stuck at 45-60 mph, and goes up past the 120 mph mark when in motion.i believe this is a serious safety hazard, and from a search online, i found that this problem is found on many other 2003-2006 gm trucks.this needs to be recalled immediately due to expired warranties for many other gm truck owners that have this faulty speedometer problem, and the expensive cost to repair/replace. Thank you.

The high beam indicator light is too bright making it difficult too see at night.

I own a 2003 gmc 3500 sierra with a duramax diesel engine.it is used recreational, and has under 30k miles, but is now 36 months old.this summer 1/2 of my fuel injectors failed and were replaced under warranty. I'm concerned there the rest of the injectors will fail, as has been frequently reported by owners sharing concerns on various online forums.i am additionally concerned that this failure will occur after my warranty expires.i would like to request that the injector issues be researched for 2003 duramax engines, and that a recall be issued to update vehicles with new injectors that don't exhibit the same flaws/failures, or request that the engine warranty be extended to 200,000 miles as was done on the 2001-02 models.the date of this incident is estimated.

Dt:the consumer owns a 2003 gmc sierra. The consumer stated he has been having problems with the fuel gauge, fuel pump, and fuel filter. The fuel gauge does not work, he has to constantly fill up his truck to make sure he has enough gas. It started at 38000 miles just out of warranty when it stopped working. He had the part estimated by a mechanic and it is going to cost around 700 dollars just for the part. He does know of other people with the same truck and the same type of problem. The fuel gauge reads completely wrong when he is on 3 quarters of a tank it will be empty.

Failed component 1: driving at slow speed, reduced power light energized and engines goes to idle speed with no fuel pedal response. Failed component #2: exhaust manifold bolts in cylinder heads broken on both sides of engine, passenger exhaust manifold cracked, exhaust is loud with exhaust fumes in cab. Depending on what is causing the fuel system failure and whether the cylinder heads have to be removed to remove the broken bolts, these repairs could cost thousands.

While driving at any speedvehicle has a problem shifting into a gear.when the gear is changing there is a hard thump/a brief hesitation before the gear actually goes in to the proper position. 2003 gmc sierra,7000 milesautomatic transmission is jerky.very poor performance.service department refuses to acknowledge the problem.i know for a fact this is fairly widespread.what can the dealer do about it?

When vehicle was stopped on an incline with gear placed in park before engaging parking brake the transmission locked in park.in order to unlock it the consumer had to have the tow truck pull the vehicle in order to unlock it. I have a 2003 gmc sierra pickup.my problem is the transmission does not work properly.i had 150 miles on the vehicle when the trans blew, now a clunkling noise every time the vehicle shifts.gm calls this a downshift clunk noise and has issued a tsb requesting dealers not to attempt repair.this is a loud clunk which slams into the differential.i have contacted gm to no avail etc runaround. Is there any place to get help for me and possibly many others?

After driving over about 40 miles at highway speed the transmission will begin slippping in od.rpm slowly climbs to about 3200 (normally 2100 at highway speed) with no change in vehicle speed, and eventually the 'transmission high temperature' warning appears on the dashboard display.shifting to neutral and allowing the engine to idle for about 20 seconds and then returning to drive will temporarily clear the problem, but it sometimes returns.

Consumer complained about a couple of problems.one was transmission. While driving at various speeds gear slipped. When vehicle was taken to dealer for service mechanicdetermined that the cause waslow oil. The other wasfor the steering column. When driving at various speeds vehicle knocked and squeaked intermittently.steering column had to be replaced once before for same problem.

While driving the fourth gear of the automatic transmission jumped.the dealer inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate or correct the problem. *nlm

2003 gmc sierra slt z71 extended cab, 13000 miles.transmission shifts slowly and slips between 1st and 2nd.drivetrain very very noisy between up and down shifts.knocking in steering wheel. *la

I drive a 2003 gmc sierra and there is a transmission problem it makes the driving very dangerous especially at highway. Speed. The vehicle cannot stay strait it either pulls to the left or to the right. The feel of the vehicle isn't right like if its dog tracking. There are clonking and tickingsounds coming from the transmission just from shifting from drive to reverse, reverse to drive...park. While driving when engaging the passing gear sometimes you hear that clonking sound like if there was a slack in the transmission.i had this vehicle since july 2004 and since then i've been to the dealership a number of times everytime they said that everything was ok and showed me paperwork stating from gm canada that clonking, ticking etc. Etc. Were normal operation of the transmission.it cant be cause i had a2001 gmc truckwhich i traded for, that drove like a truck this one i have now drives like a tank. Every hole or crack in the road i can feel when i hit a small hole or a dip in the pave the vehiclewants to dog track most of the time the truck pulls to the left, when it does there is a slight vibration you can feel from the accelerator or the brake. This vehicle i find is a accident waiting to happen.its a big vehicle and to swerve side to side scares other vehicles on the highway, which puts everybody at risk everytime i'm on the road. From all these complaints i did to gm still today they tell me and show me paperwork from gm tech line. Stating that everything is normal and no work from there part should be done on this truck.it's like if gm has people working on these statements just to cover themselves from having to repair or change parts in order to save money in which i wouldn't dought. If you can help me please. Let me know cause this is a very serious matter which i would like to fix before i get into an accident.i believe there is a controversy into all of this.

Transmission has "clunking" noise when vehicle shifts from second to third gear when starting and down shifting when stopping.the noise started at approximately 4000 miles and continues to progressively get louder as the vehicle continues to be driven.the transmission has not failed to operate at this time but expect it to fail sometime in the near future.

I own a 2003 gmc seirra 4x4 sle (ext) cab and the transmission is very jerky between first and second gear and between second and third gear also , but at times there is a cluck noise between second and third gear. Which sounds like a universal joint that is bad.first time i took it to the dealer they said they couldn't reproduce the problem. Second time they change the pressure control solenoid in thethe valve body, filter, and fluid in transmission. It worked great for @ two weeks and now it's back. There is a problem here . Two friends at work have the same problems with there 2003 gmc's and chevy's trucks.

I purchased my 2003 gmc sierra z71 in aug. 2003. In december 2003, while pulling a travel trailor, the service 4-wd light came on and the truck felt as if it had been shifted into neutral.i managed to get the truck to the side of the road and read the owners manual concerning the light. I turned the truck off as the book said and then restarted. The light stayed on, but the truck did go in gear. Since this time, when i pull the trailor for a long period of time, the truck will again feel as if it is inneutral. I have to put the truck into 2nd or 1st gear to get the transmission to engage. The 4wd light comes on with or without the trailor hooked up and has been checked several times by the dealer. They have replaced the switch but this has not corrected the problem. The transmission shifts so hard it feels as if the back end of the truck will fall out. I was told this is normal operation. Something needs to be done to correct this problem as this is a huge safety issue. No one can feel comfortable driving down a road and never knowing if you will be hit from behind due to this truck stalling for no reason.

I own a 2003 cmg 1500 4x4 when i had 300 miles on vehichle i noticed a vibration in the drivetrain. I took to dealer, they adjusted tire air pressure. 2nd time in they changed bearing in front differential, 3rd time in they changed front differentialcarrier, this got rid of vibration, i still have a concern that the carrier come as a shell so it still has original ring and pinion. Don't no if this will create a problem later or not but gear patern must have changed.

I own a 2003 gmc sierra 1500 z71 off road truck.i've had it in the shop four times now due to the same problem.the problem consists of excessive play/backlash in the rearend/differential according to the dealer.this excessive play/backlash is causing the truck to jerk after shifting from first to second and second to third gears.the dealer and manufacturer say this is normal according to gm specs.at one point, while sitting at a traffic light, i proceeded to accelerate after the light turned green and the truck didn't go anywhere, but after a few seconds the truck slammed into gear and spun the rear tires.this problem seems to have been corrected after replacing the transmission control solenoid for now, but the constant jerking of the rearend/differential seems to be worsening.when discussing this problem with the dealers service manger and now finally with the general manger, they still say this is normal and has been for all 2000 through 2004 gmc sierra's.that's interesting, because i owned two 2000 gmc trucks in the past and neither one of them experienced these problems.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. While the contact was examining his vehicle he noticed that there was oil dripping from the transfer case under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that a cover should be put on the transfer case to stop the leaking. The vehicle was serviced by the dealer and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 76000.

I have been having trouble with my four wheel drive.the engine seems to bog down like i am pulling something.took it in to get looked at and the repairman had to replace a part saying that it was automatically kicking in and out.he fixed it and it was fine for about 6 months and now it is doing it again.you can even hear it in the engine, it sounds like it down shifts to pull something.

When the 4 wheel drive light illuminates on the dashboard vehicle fails to accelerate. This is caused by the transfer case encoder motor locking in 4 wheel drive. Dealership replaced the part, but cause of the failure is undetermined.

I have a 2003 gmc sierra slt ext. Cab z71 (4x4), the 4-wheel drive is not working, no lights show up on the buttons.the dealer has attempted to replace the 4wd switch, this did not fix the problem, they still have the truck.the truck is less than a year old and has 20,700mi.there are service bullitens for the problem, but there is no permanent fix.why sell a 4wd product if the 4wd will not work?

4 wheel drive transmission will shift from 2 wheel to 4 wheel low while driving. Sometimes it will shift to neutral. This can be very dangerous. You basically don't have the control of the vehicle that you thought you had.

2003 gmc sierra 2500hd crew cab cloth split bench:the shoulder harness seatbelts on all three passenger seats will lock up during normal cruise (no sudden stops or yanks on the belts), and will continue to get tighter and tighter until the occupant must unbuckle the seatbelt and let it completely retract before it can be re-buckled.this will occur on nearly every trip in the vehicle, and has occurred since it was new.this is more than an annoyance, it is a safety hazard since the passengers must unbuckle their seat belts in a moving vehicle.the dealer (jim waldron gmc, davison mi) claims it is simply a design flaw and they can do nothing to correct it.they say that "everyone" with a 2003 sierra is complaining about it.this problem never occurs on the driver side seat belt.i am seriously concerned for the safety of my passengers in this vehicle that is designed to carry many passengers.

I own a 2003 gmc sierra crew cab truck.the rear seatbelts lock up and restrain my adult passengers to the point of discomfort.when the passengers try to pull out and release the locking mechanism, the seatbelt ratchets even tighter allowing no movement whatsoever.the seatbelts lock up while driving around town and more so on the highway during roadtrips. The result is that my adult passengers refuse to wear these belts.i have had these belts replaced once already.i took the opportunity to visit several dealerships, and inquired about this issue.i was told that there is a problem with gm's belts, but as of now all the dealerships are doing is replacing the belts for customers, yet the problem persist.it is my opinion that these belts were designed for car seats not adult passengers.

When theabsbrakes were pressed hard the steering locked and made itdifficult to control the steering wheel.the consumer contacted the manufacturer, and informedconsumer that it was the characteristic ofvehicle.the dealership mechanic will not repair vehicle based on information from manufacturer.the anti-lock brakes experienced extended stopping distance and caused the vehicle minor damage as the consumer attempted to avoid an accident.the dealer suggested that there was no problem.the edges of the seat were worn. *sc

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. When inserting the key into the ignition, the seat moved forward and pinned the contact to the dashboard. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor drive software needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.updated 04/06/16*lj

Dt: the contact owned a 2003 gmc sierra 1500 hd. Contact received a recall letter forautomatic seat failure.whengetting out of the vehicle seat was suppose to move back to let consumerout, but instead it was moving forward, causingconsumer to go under the steering wheel. Consumercalled the dealership for the last six months, they knew the problem existed, butwere unable tofixthe problem. Therefore, there was nothing that theycould doright now. The instrument panel will just came on without anyone touching anything. The problem with the seat happened at least once a day. It will reset itself all the time.

I was approaching an intersection where traffic was stopped for a red light. I applied the brakes and was decreasing speed from approx 35 mph. At approx.10-15 mph the brake pedal went to the floor without any warning or sensor detection and the brakes failed. I held the pedal to the floor, immediately shifted to low gear and drifted to the right shoulder to avoid the stopped traffic. I slowly moved the vehicle to a safe place. In a short distance the service brake system warning activated but there was no warning prior to failure. The truck was taken to my mechanic where it was found that the brake line on the left frame rail had failed under pressure due to extreme rust. It was also determined that all the brake lines, emergency brake cable and brake plates were rusted far in advance of expectations for my model year and mileage. All brake lines have to be replaced because another failure is certain if only the blown line is replaced. I contacted the dealership that sold and has serviced my vehicle and they stated that there was no assistance or recall for rusted brake lines even though there are numerous complaints.

Car pulled out in front on me slammed on brakes, pedal went to floor, avoided car could not stop and ran into a field with my granddaughter in vehicle. Somebody is going to die as a result of these rusted brake lines. These are brakes we're talking about here. Recall needs to happen now!!!! shame on you gm, we know your aware of this deadly problem.

Exiting off freeway ramp in indianapolis brake pedal went to the floor without notice and no brake fluid loss, nearly crashed crossing 5 lanes of cross traffic just lucky i wasn't broadsided by cross traffic.i received no notice of hazard from gm, no recall and only learned of this problem once researching on web.i am lucky to be alive.

Pulling out of driveway, no brakes. Broken corroded brake line, appears that all lines look in the same shape .luckily there was no oncoming traffic. The hole in the line is directly under the driver seat.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact applied the emergency brake and came to a stop. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the brake lines were corroded and would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Was coming up on a single lane bridge . When i started to brake my foot went to the floor. Lucky for me i did not have any oncoming traffic, and droveover the bridge safely. I then noticed check brake system sign on dash board. Pulled over and there was brake fluid dripping from the drivers side around gas tank area. The line was corroded and burst.

I was traveling in rule area of mich. After dark,a deer jump out in front of me! i hit the brakes,a brief brake surge, then the pedal went to the floor! no brakes! the brake lines under the drivers seat area were rusted through! i stop at a gas station. I found brake fluid all over and a man asked me what had happened,i told him what i found , he and i couldn't believe they were so rusted out ! my truck is in very good shape! except for the brake lines! it's got a stainless steel exhaust system but they scrimp on one of the most critical systems for safety ! unbelievable! by the grace of god i didn't hit the deer! but what if it had happened in town or if the deer was a child! thank god it happened the way it did and no one got hurt!

In a parking lot and without warning or indicator light, the brake pedal pushed to the floor with no resistance or braking activity.fortunately, i rolled to a stop prior to entering the highway.after towing my gmc truck to a local dealership, i was informed the metal brake lines had failed (corroded.)dealer is now replacing all brake lines (metal tubes and rubber hoses.)internet research results show nhtsa opened an investigation for this in 2010. I called gm, who stated they were not aware of any recall. If this had happened the last time i drove the truck, 3 days earlier, i would have been towing a boat through the mountains with 3 passengers and gear.it probably would not have ended well.no warning indicator, no recall for inspection, no bulletin for dealership to inspect during my last maintenance.i am disappointed that i had to learn about this problem in this manner.

I was driving down my street and tried to stop at the stop sign.the brake pedal started to stop the vehicle and then suddenly went straight to the floor.i drove the one block back to my house and parked the vehicle.i observed a large puddle of brake fluid under the drivers door.upon inspection, i saw a bundle of rusty brake tubes running down the frame rail of the truck.i had the truck towed to my mechanic.

On 11/11/2014, truck suddenly veered to left, crossed middle of road and went halfway into ditch, road did have a small amount of snow[1/2 inch], this happened just as i topped a small hill. On 11/16/2014 again as i topped a hill on a curve the truck suddenly veered to the left, crossed the middle of the road and did go completely in the ditch.on 11/30/2014 as i backed out of the garage, the brake pedal went to the floor and had a horrible noise when i applied the brake. I made an appointment with my mechanic and he found the brake caliper was froze up and sheared off the brakepad and this ruined the brake rotor, this of course caused the loss of brakes on the right rear side, which must have been pulling me off the road. Luckily we suffered no serious injuries and no other vehicles were on the road.

2003 gmc sierra 1500, brake line failure. Purchased truck new in 2003 while stationed in the south, transferred to new england in 2008. 50/50 north-south truck, can't blame it all on road salt. Event: while in parking lot the brake pedal went right to the floor while shifting into reverse.brake lines completely rotted out, fluid on the ground left front side and under drivers seat area. Drums and rotors were replaced two years prior.truck was towed to the shop and i'm still awaiting the estimate. After quickly reading the amount of issues in the past 24 hours gm needs to recall and fix these issue before loss of life numbers increase.

Brake line rusted through, 1 month later a second brake line rusted through.massive rust on frame and bumpers as well.

When exiting an interstate highway on a high speed ramp, i had to depress the brake pedal with extra pressure to slow down quickly due to a merging car.the brake pedal provided less than normal resistance and then proceeded to go all the way to the floor.the truck did slow down such that i was able to avoid a collision but it was scarily close (didn't stop any where near the distance that it has taken over the last 10 years). As i was continuing to roll/glide down the highway i decided to test the brakes to be sure i had braking capability.the brake pedal went completely to the floor and no braking capability.i had to use the emergency brake in order to stop and move into a safe place on the highway.there was no warning sign of a brake problem and there were no warning lights before nor after the loss of braking capability.the metal brake lines had corroded through and required replacing in order to get thebraking capability restored.the repair total was $1,307 plus taxes.this catastrophic loss of braking capability with no warning or even performance indication is a total failure for the standards for which a motor vehicle should be allowed on american roads.the good news is that an accident was avoided and it was fortunate that i knew to use the emergency brake as a backup; my 24 year old daughter that was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the failure had no idea that this would be an option.this truck is 10 years old with the first ~1 year in michigan before i acquired it and used it in aso-called salt belt state (delaware).it is 10 years old and only has 76,000 miles on it.

Entered parked truck in personal driveway. Applied brakes prior to stating and petal went to the floor with no warning. Opened hood and noticed big puddle of brake fluid in driveway. Added more brake fluid only to see it leak right back out on the ground. Contacted repair station, had truck towed. I was notified by the repair station that there was severe brake line rust and they could only complete a partial repair at a local area of the broken brakeline due to the major cost involved!

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. While attempting to reverse out of the driveway, the brake pedal depressed to the floor and the brakes failed to engage. The brake system malfunction indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. After stopping the vehicle, the contact noticed that there was a trail of brake fluid leaking from underneath the vehicle. The contact determined that the rear brake lines were excessively corroded and needed to be replaced. The contact repaired the vehicle himself. However, the failure recurred. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 160,000.

As i entered my driveway i applied the brake and the pedal felt very soft.when i got out of the vehicle i notice fluid leaking from the driver side wheel.opened the hood and could see where the brake line had rusted through.all of the brake lines are totally rusted. Vehicle is unsafe!

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. While driving at 60 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but took a longer distance to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic multiple times who diagnosed that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000. The vin was unavailable.

First incident was a brake line bursting in my driveway. I had it repaired at my local garage. At that time he told me that all of the brake lines were in bad shape. Second incident, while i was driving up the road at approx 55 mph with my 19' boat in tow i realized i had no steering or brakes. I was able to coast to a stop and pull the vehicle off the road to a safe location. The failure was attributed to a rotted line to the power steering cooler.lastly, i am not able to get a safety inspection sticker because my brake lines in such bad condition. Estimated cost to repair $800-$1500 dollars.i will add that the truck looks like new, spends most of it's time in the garage and is used primarily to go to the local dump, plow my driveway only and occasionally tow my boat to the lake! mileage reflects this.dates may not be totally accurate but the best of my recollection.

Going down the road pulling a trailer, went to brake and the brakes went to the floor.ended up having to use the trailer brakes to stop.

While traveling in my 2003 gmc sierra truck at approximately 45mphi stepped on the brake pedal to stop at a stop sign and the pedal went 3/4 of the way down to the floor, then the brake light came on and the truck did not stop as quickly as it usually does ( glad i was not going any faster) . Upon checking the truck it was discovered that the front drivers side steel brake line had a hole in it due to corrosion and there was no brake fluid in the master cylinder .

Pulled up to the carwash. As i was preparing to put money in the machine,i heard a hissing sound. Brake pedal went to the floor & brake light came on. I had no brakes whatsoever. Was able to roll backto a vacant area & stop with emergency brake. Truck is still in the shop where mechanic is replacing all the brake lines. He said this was common for this truck & the lines were all bad.

The problem started when i noticed the rear brakes making excessive noise. Figuring that it was likely worn brake pads, i decided to change them. During the process of changing out the brake pads, i noticed that the rotors had been extremely worn down. This lead to me replacing both rear rotors, only to find that the brakes were not releasing after being applied. I then replaced both rear brake calipers. This did fix the problem of the brakes not releasing. After bleeding the brakes, i took the truck out for a test run. At this point there was a brake line failure and lead to complete brake failure. My concern is due to the fact that the brake lines are very heavily corroded, and i fear that there will be many future problems with the system. The truck has many other rusted parts underneath as well, and i do not use the vehicle for any abnormal driving use that would lead to excessive corrosion.

Due to corrosion the brakes line burst causing a complete braking failure - no warning lamps illuminated!!! the lines corroded completely in the holders which attach to the vehicles frame. Under moderate stopping pressure the lines burst! all metal lines need to be replaced from the front of the vehicle to the rear. Truck has never been exposed to extreme weather or salt while in my ownership. This is completely and utterly unacceptable.

Driving aprox. 40 mph applied brakes, brakes were soft.reapplied brakes and brake pedal went to floor. Lucky to get off the road prior to stopped traffic.pulled into parking lot & discovered brake fluid dripping and all over the underneath of vehicle both front & rear area. Inspected the brake fluid reservoir to find it empty.inspection by my repair shop discovered several lines had rusted thru and leaked the fluid out. I was fortunate that i did not rear end any vehicles in front of me and lucky that i was not on a fast moving express way & needed to stop.

Abs activates (noticed by pulsing brake peddle) when moving slowly to a stop on dry clean pavement.occurs randomly when slowly coming to a stop.

When exiting the toll road, i applied brakes to slow down.it appeared we were going to roll thru the gate, i let off the brake, and then the car in front of me re-applied her brake.and when i re-applied my brakes, they went to the floor.no warning, no warning lights - the truck did not stop.ihit the car infront of me.luckily i wasn't traveling at a high rate of speed, as nobody was hurt. After the incident, i noticed all the brake fluid had leaked out, and then my service lights came on.had to be towed home and there i discovered that my brake lines had disintegrated - totally rusted out.i'm at the conclusion that the brake line wall was so thin, that when i applied the brakes the last time, the pressure blew out the line.no secondary line function.yes, all lines appear to be totally rusted out.truck is originally from ohio, i live in texas.i see that this is an ongoing problem in chevy/gmc trucks.and i am facing an outrageous repair bill.as a single parent of 3, 2 of which are teenage drivers, i'm not able to come up with the funds to repair.i'm so glad my kids weren't driving it at the time.i am trying to get gm to honor the brake line repair for $500 that i have seen on a couple of tv station action reports.no luck so far.thank god my kids weren't driving, and thank god i wasn't traveling at higher speeds - where someone may have been seriously hurt.

State of new york based 2003 gmc sierra 1500, 4x4, driving on smooth road dry road, 30 mph, towing light utility trailer with ladder and smaller items, applied the brakes, pedal went to floor and rear ended automobile and parked car as well.ticketed by new york state police for inadequate brakes. 2003 gmc sierra had corroded brake lines and has spent entire 10 years in new york and less than 70,000 miles. Second incident of corroded brake lines.

I was approaching a stop light driving on a 4 lane 55 mph speed zone. As i was approaching the stop light i starting pressing on the brake pedal. Thepedal had no resistance it kept going to the floor. I started pumping the pedal trying to slow my truck down, no use.i pushed pedal all the way to the floor. This slowed a little. But not enough. I down shifted the automatic lever and starting guiding the truck off the road to avoid the stopped vehicles. I missed the vehicles. Luckily i was only 3 miles from home. I managed to limp home by driving very, very slow and using the gear shifter to slow me down. When investigating the cause at home i found the brake line on the right front had rusted through and there was a leak. All the brake lines on this truck are rusted and in bad shape. I called the dealer glenn buick gmc where i purchased the truck new in 2003. I spoke to the service personal "corey" about repairing the rusted lines. He said gmc was not standing behind this "failure" !i was on my own ! seems gmc knows of these failures and so do you and you have agreed not to make them stand behind it and you have chosen to allow more accidents to happen ! you = nationalhighway safety what a shame ! shame on you and gmc ! had i not been "lucky" this could have been a terrible accident! any help in resolving this issue would be appreciated! this issue will only get worse ! as i am sure there are other trucks with this potential problem waiting to happen!

On september 16, 2013 at approximately 6:00 am, i was approaching an inner-neighborhood intersection at low speed (approximately 5 mph) and began to apply my brakes to bring my vehicle to a required stop. Upon applying my brakes, the brake system failed completely whereby the brake pedal lost all pressure and depressed completely to the floor. Due to the fact that i was traveling up an incline at that point and was approaching a (four-way) stop sign, my truck came to an eventual stop a foot or two into the intersection. No accident occurred and no injuries were sustained by anyone as there were no other vehicles or pedestrians present.inspection of the vehicle post-incident confirmed that the rear brake line had burst leading to complete loss of hydraulic brake fluid and immediate loss of brake function. Brake fluid was spilled on various rear suspension components including the axel and on the pavement.an subsequent inspection of the perforated rear drivers side brake line showed the brake line to be severely corroded with evidence of extreme clumped and loose, flaking rust layers. The perforation was evident just above the left rear axel. An inspection of the other brake lines on the vehicle showed various degrees of similar corrosion. After a full inspection of the brake system, a conclusion was made that all of the 1/4" brake lines on the vehicle would have to be replaced due to the extensive and severe rot present. It was concluded that to not do so would subject the vehicle operator as well as other drivers and/or pedestrians to potentially fatal consequences should another rot induced brake line perforation occur.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. While driving approximately 60 mph, the brakes were depressed and traveled abruptly to the floor. The vehicle failed to come to a stop until the emergency brake was engaged as the brake pedal was applied. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact discovered that the entire brake lines fractured due to corrosion. The vehicle not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra. While driving approximately 25 mph, the brake lines fractured when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact used the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

As i applied the brakes, the brake pedal went to the floor and my vehicle did not stop.thankfully there were no cars coming as i went through the stop sign.my brake indicator lights came onthe dash.i was able to limp the truck back the 1.5 miles to my house. Now i am learning that this has been a common problem with the gmc's.i have taken it to a shop and they have informed me that all the lines are rusted and brittle!

While parking the brake pedal went completely to the floor and sprayed break line fluid all on the manifold. There were zero brakes and discovered the brake lines were corroded. The vehicle had to be towed to a shop for repair to the leak. This did not fix the problem because all of the lines are corroded. I would not consider our state a "salt state" being that we live in the south. Due to these cheap break lines we will have to have them all replaced. We are very, very dissatisfied and will probably never buy a gmc product if this problem is not resolved by gm.

Approximatelyjuly 12,2013, i was traveling down the road doing about 50, when a car cut me off,i had to apply the brakes quickly,as i did, i lost my brakes. As i examined why, i found out that my drivers side rear brake line was rusted threw. Now in 2014, may 13 , i was traveling down the road coming to a traffic light when it changed to yellow, i applied my brakes and found out once again i have no brakes! this time the brake line for the front drivers side has rusted away causing brake fluid loss.

Backing out of a parking space i applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I hit a steel pole causing damage to my rear bumper. I was pretty sure i knew what was wrong. I inspected the truck and found brake fluid dripping from under the vehicle in the area of the drivers door. Further inspection showed the brake lines were very rusted which i attribute to the brake line failure.

I was approachingstoplightwhenthebrakesfailed.brakesfailed duetorustedbrakelines.noaccidentinvolvedfortunately.

As i stated pulling out of my parking space. I pressed down on the brake pedal and it went to the floor. I quickly put it in park. Then checked under the truck to find brake fluid leaking all over. The line had rusted apart.

Driving my 2003 gmc sierra at about 60mph i had to decelerate at an exit with a sharp turn and the brake pedal went to the floor. Luckily i was able to swerve around already stopped traffic while using the e-brake to stop. Pulled to the side of the road and saw the brake fluid pouring from the rear brake line beneath the drivers position. I see on the internet that this is a recurring problem reported many times with this model year vehicle. I also see the nhtsa has previously investigated these failures but no recalls?? i've seen that the gm response is that the vehicle should still stop even with the broken line. Not acceptable. Shouldn't ever happen, if quality parts were used including stainless steel. I've seen many cars in the past with at least twice the age and twice the mileage that never had the problem. Could there be a defect is a small amount of instances.....sure, but not this frequently. This is a design flaw and should be addressed. Amazing!

Pumping up brakes in driveway when brake line burst ended up with no brakes at all front or back could only use emergency brakes to position truck to be towed.

Brake line is rusted thru and leaking. I have lived in the rust belt of michigan all of my life (49yrs) and have owned many old / high mileage vehicles. In the past i was a licensed automotive mechanic. In all of my experience i have never seen brake lines rusted out this bad on a 10yr old vehicle with 130,000 miles. I have in the past owned a 20yr old truck with near 200,000 miles and the lines on that truck looked nearly new when i sold it.in this case, i do not know if the premature rusting is due to poor materials or the location of the lines.the leak is located where the lines are mounted to the top of the frame, in the proximity of the front edge of the driver's door. In this location they appear to be more exposed to salt spray coming off of the front wheel then they would be if they were mounted to the inside wall of the frame.several online forums have revealed that this is a common place that the brake lines rust thru on this model truck.in my humble opinion this is a premature condition for a vehicle of this age and mileage. Especially considering the rest of the truck is in excellent condition for its years.

First time: i had just picked up one of my daughters and was headed home, when we started going down hill i applied brakes to stay within speed limit. At first there was a moment of the brakes working and then nothing but a sloppy break pedal. At the bottom of the hill is a sharp curve and a traffic light. Even though the truckis an automatic, i applied the emergency brake and down shifted when rpm's were low enough to go to lower gear. I was going into 1st gear when we entered the sharp curve, there were 3 vehicles at a red light, so i started to head for the guard rails to side swipe and cut the wheel into the rails when the light turned green and back on to the road i went. Limped all the way home in the break down lane in first gear. Called a tow truck ($$$) that brought it to the shop. The shop replaced ($$$) a section of rotted break line that failed. 2nd time: today with both of my daughters in the truck, same circumstances as above only with a stop sign and i was going faster than i wanted to be when we approached the stop sign (traffic on the main road didn't have to stop) so between down shifting, up shifting and emergency brake, i was able to time it to go into traffic and once again limp all the way home, parked the truck and go through more crap, aggravation and $$$.i've lived in connecticut all my (driving) life, owned different makes of trucks and cars (some from the late 60's all the way the present) and never, ever had a brake line bust or rot through on any of the vehicles in the 34 years i've driven. It's no surprise that gm doesn't have replacements, they got rid of them so tests couldn't be run on them. I paid enough for the truck to expect it to be safe for my family. I mean, really, brake lines. Most important system on the vehicle, the brake system. They make the exhaust system out of stainless. Here's a thought, stainless brake lines.

Stepped on the brake and started the engine - brake failed and went to the floor.the driver was able to drive the 2 miles home but had trouble stopping not knowing there was an issue.when they reached their home they noticed fluid leaking out from the undercarriage under the drivers side door.further investigation revealed that all the brake lines (supposedly stainless) had severely rusted and one of the lines had ruptured due to rusting through.it also appears that rusting is affecting the fuel lines and oil cooler as well as the frame.vehicle has been to the gmc dealer for regular maintenance/inspections over it's lifetime and 2 - 3 times over the past year for service with no mention of the severe rusting.the only discussion was that the oil cooler would need to be replaced soon as if it was a routine maintenance item.

Pulled up to stop sign (pulling 3,800# boat) went to apply brake pedal and brake line burst. Brake pedal went to floor board, quickly applied emergency brake, vehicle came to stop in the middle of the road. Luckly this was a dead end road, with no traffic. (rusted brake line).

I got a new 2003 gmc sierra 1500the front bumper start to show rust in under 4000 milesthen i got oil change the mechanic call me and told me that my brake are solid rust both front onesthe frame is rusting all over the place at 10000 the steering column knuckle near the steering box is solid rust and he says it is very dangerous to have that rusted so bad i have sent 4 emails to gmc about it and go to marina gmc in san leandro where i got it from they told me that all of them are rusting and they not going to do any thing about it. *nlm

Total brake failure while driving vehicle. Had to use emergency parking brake to stop. All brake lines are heavily corroded and covered in rust. Brake line that failed went to right front brake. Pin hole in brake line could be seen when pumping brakes. Fortunately brakes failed at slow speed and was able to stop. I have never seen such a build up of rust on brake lines.

Noticed a large puddle under my truck in the driveway.discovered it was brake fluid that was leaking from rusted brake lines.i was two weeks from driving from florida to mid-michigan..through the mountains..pulling a trailer.cost $340 to get it repairednot replaced.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the front and rear brakes failed and would not respond when depressed. The contact examined the vehicle and discovered that the brake lines were corroded and leaking brake fluid. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 108,000.

My 2003 gmc sierra 1500 has a "clunking" sound, coming from the steering column, when i turn the steering wheel while the vehicle is moving.also, my front brakes have a "rubbing sound" and the peddle gets "spongy" when i activate the brakes at a low speed.

The rear brake pads squealed & were grinding & the truck had very poor stopping power. The truck was taken to my mechanic & he was doing the brake job; he replaced all four rotors because they were rusted beyond repair. The pads were replaced as well. While he was doing the brakes he observed the brake lines were rusted to a point that it alarmed him & he said they should be changed. He also commented that the brakes had worn very uneven. The front pads were barely worn & were only making contact at a small area of the rotor (about 1/2" of the full face on the rotor). The back pads & rotors were completely worn down & the rotors were ruined. Some of the areas under the truck look as new & other places; mainly the a-frames, brake lines, some frame members, etc. Look like they are 15 years or more older. The brakes were put back together & now they are so tight & won't release the rotors, causing the rotors to over heat. I am now having him replace the back two calipers with replacement calipers that use phenolic pistons rather than steel & are not gm parts.

On 7 separate occasions the abs warning light illuminated and remained on.the service brake system message also illuminated on the dash.the brakes rotors failed.the dealership indicated that this was due to the asbestos brake pads being used. Please provide any additional information.

My 16 yr. Son was driving home from work, when he lost his brakes. Fortunately he is a cautious driver and was able to avoid striking the vehicles in front of him in traffic. All of the brake lines are rusted.

At 81,000, miles the rear steel brake line from the frame to the rear end rusted out and burst.at 83000, miles 3 of the steel brake lines, located under the drivers door area at the leftframe rail in a bundle of 6 lines, rusted out and burst.luckily i was able to stop my truck each time by use of the parking brake and did not crash. All the steel brake lines are rusted very badly and need replacing. My local dealer quoted me $2270.00 dollars to replace all the lines.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra.the contact was driving 10 mph when the brakes were applied but did not respond.the contact continued to repetitiously pump the brakes until the vehicle coasted to a stop.the vehicle was towed to the dealer where corrosion was discovered on the brake lines. The dealer made repairs to the brake line and advised that the contact could have been involved in a severe crash if he were to have been driving at highway speeds. The failure mileage was 57,000. The vin was not available.

2003 gmc sierra pick-up 4wd extended cab. Brake line failure due to corrosion. Date of failure 2/27/12 mileage 23068 cost of repair $1283.82.my neighbor has a 2004 gmc and also need to replace his brake lines.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra.while applying the brakes, the brake pedal was depressed straight into the floorboard.the contact stated that the defect was a result of rusted brake lines.the dealer and manufacturer denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 76,667.

The brake line ruptured causing complete brake system failure. Luckily i was in my driveway and only traveling very slow. I can see brake fluid puddling under the driver side door area.

Dt*:the contact stated while depressing the brake pedal at 30mph or less, the vehicle sometimes requires an extended stopping distance and the brake pedal goes to the floor.as a result, the stopping distance was increased to avoid possible collisions.the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for inspection.the dealer determined the vehicle was operating normally and no repairs were made.

Metal brake lines ruptured due to corrosion. It is evident when other metal under body components are compared to the brake lines that the corrosion is excessive. It is readily apparent thatinferior alloys were used on this vehicles brake components. The brakes failed while the vehicle was being brought to a stop. These substandard componentsclearly represent a safety hazard. I am the vehicles original owner and ithas been operated in the new england area and maintained extremely well.

Must apply great amount of pedal effort to stop, pedal feels like sponge, auto dealer says there`s no problem, also dealer says recall #04004 dosn`t apply to my truck.

I purchased a 2003 gmc sierra (used) -checked it out after a mechanic told me about brake line problems. My truck has extremely bad rust on the portions of line i can see (looks like clamshells opening). I have done some research and have found you have an open investigation on this problem. I own 1966 and 1980 vehicles with original tubing in better condition. My question to you is simple. A recall was issued for aftermarket fuel filters that may leak and catch on fire if you park over an ignition source but no recall on a major issue concerning brakes. I am pretty sure more people use their brakes more often than people change fuel filters. P.s.my neighbor has a 2005 dodge that had a line rupture-lucky for him he was in his driveway!

-the contact stated that every timethe vehicle comes to a stop while driving at low speeds 10 mph)the driver feels and hears a pulsation from the brakes. The contact called a dealer , and they told him that the recall 05v379000 was only on the 99-02 sierra pickup trucks. The contact said that this vehicle had the same problem , and that it can result in a crash.

Dt:the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign05v379000 regarding the anti lock brakes.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however,it is not included in the recall due to the vin. Vehicle has beenrepaired, but it stillhad the same problems.

*sc

Failure of brake system to operate, this flaw exists in millions of general motors trucks and suv'si am willing to give details to nhtsa engineers but would like to keep my name private from gmc to protect those family members employed by gmc.

Abs brake system activates during low speed stopping on dry pavement.

When traveling at a slow speed, less than 10 miles per hour, if brake is applied the pedal rumbles and the truck continues to move unless i pump the brakes.this is happening during clear days no rain, snow or loose gravel.this incident is very similar to the one described in campaign number: 05v379000.

Brake failure at low speed stop, brake pedal became soft, went to floor, loud noise in front end, vehicle pulled to the right.did not stop until pedal was pumped again.works normaly now.

Dt:the contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd/diesel. The contact complained about a steeringproblem.. The steering vibrated when making lower speed turns. Also, whenapplying the brakes the contactlostthe brake pedal, it got soft and spongy. They did not pulsate. Also, this affected the steering, the vibration in the steering, and the brakes, which were separate issues. The dealer could not duplicate the problem. He said there was a service bulletin concerning this issue, but the contact's vehicle vinwas not included.

- the contact stated that while slowing down the brakes will not work properly and the anti-lock brakes engage.there are no warning signs or indicator lights when the failure occurs.this happens when the contact is traveling 3-5 mph.the contact stated this happens every time he attempts to stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to dealer for service andmentioned the brake problem , and was told the solution was to pull the fuse on the anti-lock brakes to disengage the abs.

While riding with a friend in his 2001 silverado pickup, i noticed what seemed to be a grinding sound from the brakes just before the truck came to a stop. About a week ago, around nov. 1st. My 2003 gmc sierra pickup started making the same grinding sound, (anti-lock activation). This happens on clear, dry pavement with no reason for the anti-lock system to activate. This problem does not occur everytime i stop and i have not been able to make this happen during intentional hard stops. I notice that my stopping distance is extended when this happens. It is my understanding that gm has had a recall in canada for this issue but has not had enough complaints in the us to initiate a recall. My truck has 37,000 miles on it at this time.

Brake pedal at times will go all the way to the floor, other times it seems like you have too keep pushing way harder than normal to stop almost like something's pushing you.have been to dealer nine times they replaced the master cylinder twice, now they say the problem is caused by the electronic brake control module and there isn't anything they can do about it.

I bought the 2003 sierra new in 2003. After a short period of time a clunking occurred when going around gradual curves and over small bumps. When it got worse i brought it into the dealer and they said the steering shaft was low on lubricant. They filled it up no charge under warranty and the steering felt like new again. Not too long afterwards, the same problem happened, gradually at first then worsening. I brought it back to the dealer and they were going to replace the part this time instead of refilling it. That was covered under warranty and the steering felt good again. Now its october 25, 2005 and i am going to have to bring it in again for the same part problem. This time i am over the 36,000 mile warranty and have to pay for it. At this rate i will have to do this every year.

I have experienced significant vibration when i steer my 2003 gmc sierra pick up truck.the vibration is distracting and i was worried that there may be a serious problem so i took it into the gmc dealer to be looked at.they told me that it was a problem with the intermediate steering shaft and that it is not a safety issue.however, i feel that any problems with the intermediate steering shaft is a safety concern because if it was to fail while i was driving the results could be catastrophic.the vibration also creates unnecessary distraction, which is also a safety concern.the dealer and gmc customer service have informed me that there are 200,000 intermediate steering shafts on back order - so there is obviously a widespread problem.they told me it could be 3 months before i could get this replaced.my truck is only 1 1/2 years old with 52,000 miles.there currently is no recall.i have filed a complaint with gmc (service request # 1-304994219), but i do not think there response was adequate.they basically told me that i would have to wait until the shafts were ready and that they are currently not performing this work under a recall.there lack of concern was troubling and i do not want to trust my families safety to a customer service agent, which has been directed on what to say.i have not had an accident or incident resulting from this problem yet, but i do not feel comfortable driving the vehicle in this condition.

Steering problems on my 2003 gmc sierra 1500hd.it makes a "clunk" sound when turning.it has been to the shop 4 times.the last time they installed an re-engineered steering column, but problems still persists.

Dt:the contact stated the rear passenger brake was out of control.the vehicle was taken to the dealership , and they determinedthere was a problem with the rear tires.there have been no repairs made to the vehicle. Updated 1/4/2006- the steering intermediate shaft was knocking and had to be replaced.

Bought the truck recently from vince whibbs gmc pensacola fl. Had some front end work done but also there is a loose steering shaft that is a common defect with this year and model truck. While cornering the truck at low speeds and going over bumps there is a loose feeling felt in the steering.

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling at various speeds, the steering wheel felt loose.the problem was more obvious while turning or driving at lower speeds.this also caused the front end to make a clunking noise.the dealership replaced the intermediate steering shaft once and lubed the component three times.the problem returns after 10,000 miles.

While driving driver can feel knocking in the steering wheel. Dealer had to replace a part in the lower steering unit, but did not inform the consumer of the parts name.

Continued problems with intermediate shaft.clunking noise and steering wheel pulse presents a driving hazard. Gm needs to fix the problem as the current tsb only provides a temporary remedy.

I have 2 gm products, a 1996 chevy impalla & a 2003 gmc truck. Both have the same problem. At various times and without notice the power steering will lock up and won't turn for a brief time.after a few seconds it will go back to normal. Also if you are standing still and try to turn to the left the wheel is very hard to turn or won't turn at all. Fortunately this has not caused an accident or injury, but i could see a situation where under the wright conditions this could be life threatening.

On 08/10/04 rattle or clunk can be felt in steering. Gmc service department verified concern and lubed the steering shaft. On 09/09/04 clunk in steering column came back. Gmc service department replace intermediate steering shaft, reference to bulletin 00-02-35-003f. This is a safety concern when so many vehicles are involved.

The steering column makes a popping sound as if something is loose in it. The problem was supposedly fixed while the vehicle was under warranty. After warranty ran out the problem came back. I was then charged $60 to get the steering column greased. This worked temporarily as before.

The steering column experienced a cracking noise while driving 1-25 mph, and while making turns. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who repacked the steering column with grease. After 22,000 miles the problem recurred. Vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer informed consumer that the steering shaft was too short, and they needed to order a new shaft.consumer was waitingfor the part.......consumer claimed that if this short shaft is workingup and down, connected to steering box, then to tie rods, means everything is moving. Consumer wa sconcerned that this was a safety issue.

At about 20,000 miles i started hearing a slight knocking noise in the steering while slightly turning to the right, and while hitting minor bumps in the road. Now at about 22,500 miles it continues to get worse.being a former mechanic i checked it out and found the upper steering shaft u-joint, by the firewall,to be the cause.i called the dealer and talked to the parts deparment.the parts guy said it is a common problem and you have to replace the complete shaft and u-joints."there are about 400,000 on back order."it will take months to get it in.the service manager said there is no recall on the problem at this time.why not nhts, with this many needing to be replaced.

Whenturning the steering wheel completely to the left it will lock in this position and continue in a circle.

2003 gmc sierra crewcab 4x4 long bed 8.0lt.(1) i have a problem with the power steering system that when i am at idle, stopped or sitting with my foot off the breaks i can hardly turn the wheel. Only when i move the vehicle some can i then turn the wheel and still it can be difficult.(2) the dealer has replaced the hydroboost system in an effort to remedy the problem. I have brought it back to the dealer twice for the same problem and both times when i picked it up it still had the same problem sitting right there in the dealership.(3) this problem i believe is in the power steering pump not having sufficient flow to handle the friction the tires create at stopped or slow movement. Maybe a higher flow upgrade pump is in order here but the dealership told me not to bring it back anymore for this as there is a remedy coming out soon. I have been waiting for a year now with the problem getting worse and no recall being issued.

2003 sierra pickup truck, lost steering and brakes.the power steering and hydraulic fluid was replaced.

I own (2) 2003 gmc trucks and they both started this "clunking" noise in the steering.i have taken both of them back to the dealer to repair under warranty.the first time they just re-lubed the intermediate shaft in the steering.this worked for awhile, but the noise soon returned.i took them back again and this time they replaced the shaft.again, the clunking noise has returned and it is getting louder.i am in the process of taking the trucks back in to have them look at them again.however, my warranties are about to expire.if this occurs out of warranty and it is not repaired again i feel that my steering is in jeopardy.the longer it goes the louder it gets.something is causing this shaft to wear out.

Steering assembly knocks, clunks, rattles, can feel in the steering wheel and can hear audibly, especially at speeds under 30mph.feels dangerous.

Brake line rusted through, 1 month later a second brake line rusted through.massive rust on frame and bumpers as well.

I am an attorney in akron, ohio and i represent the family of a man that died and a man who suffered serious brain injuries while riding on the tailgate of a 2003 gmc sierra when the tailgate straps broke.

While driving 35 to 40 mph the four-wheeler which was on the bed of the vehicle fell off.consumer pulled off the road to inspect the damage, and noticed that both tailgate cablessnapped off, which caused the tailgate to fail.consumer took vehicle and the four-wheeler to the dealership for inspection;however, the dealership will not inspect the vehicle.

Nhtsa recall 04v129000 subject: tailgate support cable.thedealer refused to honor the recall because the tailgate cables were not broken.

2003 sierra steering mechanism makes a noise.the consumer was told when the part in the steering was replaced under warranty, someone placed it on too tight and now the part was out of shape. The mechanic also stated that the part would have to be lubricated often because there were no grease fittings on it. Updated. 07/21/06.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra denali. While driving 35 mph, the contact heard a squeaking sound in the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the rear axle bearing needed to be replaced; however, the contact was informed by the dealer that the part was not being manufactured and the failure could not be repaired. The current and failure mileages were 105,000.

Dt:consumer stated the right front wheel on his vehicle grabbed, and pulled the vehicle to the right.the service dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the brakes.consumer stated the abs light did not illuminate.the vehicle is still under warranty. On several occasions, the right front wheel would lock up causing the vehicle to jump across lanes before the vehicle stopped.*sb

Right front wheel hub failed at relatively few miles. Making a vibration and noise at any speed, heating up.

There have been no injuries due to the front hub bearing being worn but when we make a turn we always felt a knocking in the steering wheel which made us think of something being loose.we had a mechanic look at it just by shaking the wheel you could tell something was worn.we are trying to find out if there is or going to be a recall on it because the truck is a 2003 sierra and all mechanics we've spoke to do not believe the bearing she be worn already.this has left us without a vehicle until it gets resolved.thank you for your time.

Passenger's side rear suspension vibrated while driving at any speed, resulting in the passenger side tire developing bulges. Passenger's side tire was replaced, andthe other tires wererotated. The failure recurredon passenger's side rear tire.

Tailgate support wire broke, and tailgate fell of truck, landed on my foot.

The passenger side climate control would receive an improper voltage reading. The system would turn to its preset default settings. (on full heat) it was then necessary to stop the vehicle, turn off the ignition system. This will allow the climate control system to reset its self. This happened only one time per day. (not always at the start of the day.) troubleshooting this system was a time consuming process. (5 trips to the shop just for this) to fix this the passenger side climate control system was replaced. (this required 4days) total time to troubleshoot and repair was 4 weeks.

The high-beam indicator light (blue) is extremely bright and is so aimed as to shine directly into the eyes of the driver.this causes a significant distraction due to the light shining directly at the left eye and also greatly reduces the visibility through the windshield due to the additional light.this has been reported to gmc via the dealer and i was told that the light is part of a cluster and there is nothing that can be done to fix it.this light is a significant safety hazard and needs to be remedied.dt

While driving, coming to a complete sudden stop, and upon depressing the brakespedal, they went completely to the floor, and the vehicle would not stop.the consumer then placed both feet on the brakes trying to stop the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated, resultinginan accident.the consumer rear ended another vehicle.the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the expenses. *sc

After sitting in stop-and-go traffic i noticed that the speedometer was reading at 100 mph and i was at a stop light.at the time, i had less than 50,000 miles on my truck.since then the speedometer was almost always incorrect.it has occasionally fixed" itself, but usually didnot last more than a day or two.the needlewas often buried past 120 mph.a number of my friends and relativeswith similar vehicleshad the same problem.currently i have not paid to have theproblemfixed, but hope that it will be recalled at some point soon.

When driving the vehicle with the cruise control on the vehicle surged forward then decelerated back to its original speed after 3 to 4 seconds. The consumer had made contact with the dealership. When the vehicle was empty, then it would work as it should.if a trailer was hooked with 400 lbs, the cruise control would go from 1500 rpm to 45 or 4600 rpm's for about 3 to 4 seconds, then drop down to 2600 rpm or 3500 rpm's depending on the hill the driver was going up and would stay that rpm until the driver was at the top.three dealers suggested that they couldn't remedy the problem. *sc

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra.the contact stated that the vehicle speed control needle stopped working and it is currently stuck at 120 mph.while driving 30 mph, the vehicle speed control displayed 80 mph.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair and they stated that it would cost $600, in which he would be responsible for paying.the gm manufacturer also stated that he would be liable for the speed control repair.the current and failure mileages were 44,550.

When traveling at a slow speed, less than 10 miles per hour, if brake is applied the pedal rumbles and the truck continues to move unless i pump the brakes.this is happening during clear days no rain, snow or loose gravel.this incident is very similar to the one described in campaign number: 05v379000.

When using feature "fly by wire throttle" the accelerator cannot be controlled.*mrwhen encountering anything more than the slightest bump or variation in the road or on thehighway, it was impossible to keep constant pressure on the accelerator. When the vehicle went over a bump etc. Action was unable to be controlled and the accelerator was severely depressed which caused an increase in speed and then a voluntary release of the accelerator, even when the consumer knew he was approaching a bump, he was unable to control the accelerator.

While driving any speed, the speedometer would read the wrong speed. The cause was not determined. Please provide more information.

Dt*: the contact stated the speedometer instrument panel stopped working without prior warning.the dealer suggested replacing the speedometer instrument cluster panel.although the vehicle was seen by a dealer, no repairs were made. Updated 02/21/06 .

Poor throttle response. Drive by wire throttle.engine has no response until 2000 plus rpms. Our 1999 yukon, and previously owned 1996 sierra responded immediatly to throttle input, unlike our new gmc. As the corvette has a drive by wire system, this should have been sorted out long ago. As installed, this system makes it a hazard to pass slower vehicles because you have to anticipate when the thing will work. Vehicle going back to dealer for remedy.

The cruise control was unpredictable.while driving on cruise control the vehicle will shift gears and drive rough.the vehicle was taken to the dealer , who stated this i was normal.

Rear windows on extended cab blew while driving down highway due to improper installation.there were no severe consequence due to windows blowing off fortunately and the windows were retrieved.windows were replaced by gm dealership at owners expense even though mechanic stated this was a common defect.
