Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at approximately 40 mph, seat belt failed to restrain passenger in seat, passenger sustained chest injuries.dealer/manufacturer were notified, and informed consumer that a representative was sent and was unable to find any thing wrong. Consumer stated that while involved in a frontal collision air bags did not deploy.*yd

Disc rotor delamination, anti-lock control. I was pulling a 3/4 ton van stuck in his yard, as i got him close to the hard surface ( driveway) i put on the brakes and the truck wouldn't stop, it hit the corner of his block house. No damage to the house however i had to replace all but hood and one headlight assy. 10 mph and neither bag deployed. I thought it was my own stupidity until reading all the issues on here w/ gm's braking problems. I feel a bit better about myself.the big issue !! all four rotors delaminated w/ 46,000 miles this is the 1st new truck i've owned and believe me it's been babied for sure. I was told by my service dealer there was nothing gm would do about this problem it was my problem for not driving it as much as i should (b.s.) dealer wanted to charge me a grand to replace all the rotors and pads i did it for 500.00 and still have the old parts. I'm sure gm should issue a recall on this, it is a definite safety issue did i fail to mention the muffler had a rattle in it and was replaced within the 1st 1000 miles, the thump in the steering column that has no way to be lubricated. Mani am disappointed in gm products.

The wheels malfunction ending up hitting a covert the air bags did not deploy

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra.while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact crashed the vehicle into a tree. He was unsure of how the crash occurred.a police report was filed. The passenger was seriously injured and sustained a broken neck, concussion, bruised lung, and lacerations on the body.the air bags failed to deploy.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current and failure mileages were approximately 100,000updated 03/05/09 updated 03/11/09.

While driving 55 mph,the driver lost control of the vehicle after he possibly fell a sleep.the vehicle ran off the road and there were multiple impacts,he collided with a utility pole and the vehicle rolled.the driver was unrestrained and sustained severe head trauma, a ruptured spleen and a broken collar bone.both air bags did not deployed and consequently the driver died.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.there was minor front end damage but significant roof damage on the driver's side.cw

While vehicle traveling about 35mph on a main street was involved in a crash, and passenger's air bag failed to deploy.nlm

Truck was struck infront end at 35 to 40 mph and none of the airbags deployed.please provide any further information.

While driving at 30 mph vehicle went to the right and consumer lost control. Hit a telephone pole and flipped truck over. Vehicle was totalled. Driver upon impact, none of airbags deployed. Consumer was seriously injured in this incident.

Front crash at 40 mph, neither airbag deployed. Driver suffered knee and facial injuries, damage to vehicle was $20000.00. *jg

While driving 35 mph vehicle stalled. Driver was not able to restart vehicle, and it was towed todealer for inspection numerous times. Mechanic determined that the distributor capneeded to be replaced, and replaced it three times.

The consumer stated the vehicle had been sitting in the driveway with the engine off for about 35 minutes, whenit suddenly caught on fire.

Truck will runfine until warm.pulling into stop sign, garage, traffic light, parking lot etc.truck will shut off.alternator gauge pulls down below 9 volts.new alt. Belt, new alternator, new fuel filter were replaced.several bottles of injector cleaner were used over a six month period.nothing helped so far.i have had several near accidents due to this.the last one was on a divided highway when i stopped at a stop sign and the engine stoped and i ended up out into the south obund lanes of traffic.luckily nothing was coming.

When my issues started, i would fill my gas tank and the gas gauge would plummet to empty. While driving, it would go to full, back to empty or be anywhere in between. At that time, there no no mechanical issues, just the annoying fact that you had no idea how much fuel you actually had. This went on until this spring, when i had the first potentially dangerous incident. I was driving down a county highway at approximately the speed limit and the truck's engine just shut off. No power steering, nothing. It happened just as i was coming to a stop sign thankfully. I was about 50 miles from home and was able to call a friend that manages the collision center of a local car dealership to see about getting a tow or his opinion as to what was wrong. After about ten minutes and after numerous attempts, it restarted. I talked to several mechanics and got the same answer from all of them: the fuel pump and sending unit fail in gmc trucks around the mileage, 95,000 miles, that i currently have on the truck. The gas gauge is still erratic, i have had two episodes of the vehicle stalling and now the service engine soon light is coming on and when it is put on an analyzer it says emissions, but there is nothing wrong with the emissions system. I have also talked to owners who have had theirs replaced and everyone says to get a factory made pump because the cheap aftermarkets break down even quicker. I googled the information and the problem appears to be widespread.

Failure of abs module caused abs light and red service brake lights to come on. Replacing both front hub bearings (including both front abs sensors and wiring) and repairing the ground strap on the frame for the abs system did not fix the problem. Service brake system has new calipers ,rotors, and pads and a full inspection revealed no problems or failures. Abs module is still on vehicle but will be replaced next.

The harness wiring on the steering which controlled the headlights overheated and melted. They were so mashed together that they had began to rub against other wires. The wipers and headlights were inoperable. Please provide any further information.

While driving and without warningbattery died. Dealer notified.

Many problems: 4 wheel drive sensor, front end suspension, parking brake, service brakes, anti-lock brakes, speed sensors, radio, center console, engine noise rapping when starting, tailgate cables, anti-theft sensor, and now the battery voltage gauge needle excess dropping when stopping, engine idling to low when stopping.dealer says problem is normal. Let's test drive a new truck and show me it is normal.this truck is a lemon in my eyes!

Dt: the consumer tookvehicle to the dealership for manufacturer's recall 05500work on7-28-05 forthe ignition distributor system. It wasinspected and replaced. . when theconsumertook the truckto dealerit was running well, there were no problems. About 30-45 minutes later consumerwas called by the service desk and informedthat truck needed a new distributor.however, consume r did not believe that truckneeded a new distributor. Then a service persontold consumerthat vehicleneeded a distributor or they could tie a zip tie on the distributor, and that was what the service department did. They tied a plastic zip tie onto the distributor. Consumerwas wondering why that happened to the vehicle when it was running well.before the recall work was donethirty minutes earlier. The service person said if the owner did not get a new distributor the tie could come loose and the truck would quit running. Needless to say, consumerwas not satisfied that the dealership put a brand aide fix on the truck and put it back on the road. Consume r had not contacted gm at this point.

I dont really know what lead up to the failure but the pass lock anti theft system on the gm products really needs to be looked into. This problem can cause the vehicle to shut down at any given moment or not start at all. 90 % off the vehicles that have the pass lock system on them have problems. Gm mechanics say it is the ignition switch or this or that but it isnt it is the passlock system. After parts have been replaced it still happens. I live in a small rural community with alot of trains and i dont feel that my truck should be stalling on the railroad tracks because of this problem. After looking around on the net to find help there is thousands of people who have this same problem. What happens if the vehicle stalls in the wrong place or an emergency comes up and it will not start. Someone could get seriously hurt or even killed. I beleive this is a serious safety issue and should be looked into. My vehicle itself stalled for 10 min in the middle of the road. I really dont know what could fix the problem except there is ways to bypass it. Rewire your ignition switch. This could cause other problems. Or you can buy a fifty dollar bypass module. Then you have to live with the security light on. Ya you could unplug the light in the message center but what about all the other alerts that come up in there. You would loose them. I would rather have my security system working properly so that if someone trys to steal my vehicle they have a harder time doing so & so my family and i dont have to worry about stalling somewhere. I would think that with all the complaints that gm gets about this they would have a bit of an idea to fix it. Thank you for your time

Consumer's vehicle doesn't have any tail lights to alertvehicles or traffic behind of a sudden stop or just being there. Brake lights only come on to indicate a stop.dealerreplaced the body control module, but it hasn't been corrected.

After fuel pump was replaced, the vehicle wouldn't start. *ph while the vehicle was under warranty, it would not start.the fuel pump was changed but not the connector.the problem resurfaced and quit running numerous times.the service dealer stated that the fuel cap was not tight enoughwhich caused this problem.(the cap was tightened)the vehicle stopped running while at a traffic light more than once.the consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer and had to pay for repairs because the vehicle was then out of warranty.several weeks later the problem recurred and the service dealer found no gas pressure and replaced the pump.the vehicle stopped again while the consumer was making a left turn.the consumer had taken upon himself to go under the vehicle and wiggled the wiring harness which started the vehicle.the service dealer changed the fuel pump connector harness.(the connector was burned and pitted) *sc

Consumer had just driven approximately 6 miles, returned home and parked vehicle.two minutes later, vehicle caught on fire.consumer did not smell any smoke or had any indication that vehicle was going to catch onfire.

Vehicle experienced sudden stalling at various low speeds. Taken to dealerfor testing, but the cause was undetermined at this time.the dealer replaced the crank sensor.

I have a 2001 gmc sierra that has been losing coolant for about 2 years now.i was told it was a common problem with these trucks just wandering why nothing has been done.

My 2001 gmc sierra has a tendency to use oil. It happens after about 3000 kms after an oil change. I brought it up to the service department at the dealership and they told me to try a different brand of oil. I also complained about my truck rolls ahead when i start it in cold weather. They said that this is normal. That is their answer for everything!!! as far as i am concerned, when a vehicle is in park it should not move when you start it!!!!

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the contacts home. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the crankshaft needed to replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and they confirmed the vin failed to qualify for a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 07v521000(engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 29,000.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off so the contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted and taken to an authorized dealership; the dealer stated that the crankshaft sensor was the cause for failure. The dealer also informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in recall 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 70,320.

Anti-freeze inside radiator turns to a gel like substance. Manufacturer has been contacted. A technicial service bulletin has been issued for that problem.please provide any further details.

While starting up the vehicle consumer heard a knocking noise coming from the vehicle.consumertookthe vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicdetermined that the knocking noise was normal.

While parking on an icy pavement, the abs failed and caused the vehicle to hit and roll over the concrete parking divider. Vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer cleaned the corrosion off both front wheel sensors.the consumer stated that his brakes failed 3 times under 5mph.the consumer stated that the vehicle also has engine trouble and has had trouble since purchase.*tc

When the air conditioner (a/c) is usedit takes at least eight minutes for the cool air to flow.there is a foul odor coming from the vents that smells like rotten eggs.also, consumer is concerned with the sound of the engine.although the vehicle isequipped with a gas engine, it sounds like a diesel engine.there is a irritating noise that occurs intermittently at any speed.the dealer claims that the noise is normal.engine burns 3 qts. The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra.while driving approximately 15 mph on normal road conditions, the engine stalled.all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the engine immediately restarted without assistance and the vehicle began to operate normally.the service engine warning indicator remained lit until the engine was turned off.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the failure was related to the crankshaft position sensor.through research, the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id number 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling).he was informed that the vin was excluded from the recall, although the failures were identical.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 65,000.

2001 gmc sierra z71 with 5.3l vortec engine.engine knocks loudly for approximately 10 seconds on every cold start.called the dealer and spoke with service department.person i spoke with stated that "all 5.3 liter engines do that" and that it was "normal".i emailed gmc with my concern and they replied: we have contacted your dealer to review this concern.according to the information they provided and that we have here, this tick is a characteristic of this engine.it has been determined that this tick is not indicative of any damage being done to the engine and does not compromise the longevity or durability of the engine or its components.your dealer may be able to provide you with additional information regarding this matter. I purchased this truck with 13,000. Miles on it , ran great. At 30000. Miles motor started to ping like a lifter wasn't working correctly. Took it back to dealer where i bought it, they said it would not make noise. Took service writer out and started truck, engine made load knocking noise. He stated that gmc said that was normal for that engine and that it starts at 10,000.-19,000. Miles. Been in contact with gmc. They state it won't hurt motor,i don"t no why it wouldn't, metal against metal will wear with time!!!!!!!!they are willing to give a extended warranty to 100,000. Miles !!!!i don"t want it i want my truck fixed under the warranty 3yr/36,000 that i have. If they won't honor that warranty what makes me think they will honor 100,000. Warranty. *nlm

There is excessive engine noise, that the dealership has said is engine lifters. According to the dealershipgm has diagnosed the problem as an oil pump issue. They say that sufficient oil is not pumped to the engine, so there is a lack of lubrication. The result is a typical "lifter sticking" noise. The dealer says that gm has not issued any sort of a recall yet! in fact they say there is not an adverse effect or damaged being caused to the engine. I find this hard to believe as proper lubrication is crucial to motor longevity. I believe this is a recall issue, and the long gm waits to diagnose and recall this problem, damage to this vehicle will only worsen. If all allowed to go long enough, i would think gm would be looking at having to replace motor blocks, rather than installing an oil pump that can handle the task of getting oil to the crank case. *nlm****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis****761983

I was driving down the road, and the vehicle stopped running, some seconds later it restarted.twice since then the vehicle would not start, but then started sometime later.i had the vehicle repaired at sharon chevrolet, they found a code that indicated the crank position sensor (ckp) was at fault.this has corrected the problem.i spoke to gm and they said it was not on recall.this cost me $356.30 to repair, and it is exactly was is on id #07v521000 recall.

Extreme noise in engine for first 20-30 seconds at cold startup. Regional factory rep. States "perfectly normal" and is a known problem. No fix at this time.

Engine knock at start up for approx 10-30 seconds.

Front crash at 40 mph, neither airbag deployed. Driver suffered knee and facial injuries, damage to vehicle was $20000.00. *jg

The safty defect is that the engine just quits at any speed. The same problem happened two times.once at 3793 miles on april 5, 2001 and then again at 6340 miles on may 15, 2001.both times the engine began to ping and then just stopped running. Both situations happened while on a major highway at highway speeds. I was lucky enough to be able to get to a shoulder lane on the highways.the safety problem is if the truckshould stop at a location where road repairs are in progress and the shoulder lanes are blocked by cement barriers to not allow me to get off of the highway lanes with heavy truck traffic.this is not hypothetical, i drive hwy 35 between san antonio and dallas and the highway is allways under repair, the cement barriers are up and the heavy truck traffic is there.the disaster waiting to happen is the truck stalling at these locations.

Engine knocks when starting cold and when pulling a trailer or under a load. Took truck to dealer and was advised that all the 5.3 liter engines will eventually do it. Also said that general motors is aware of the problem. I then called general motors and asked them about the problem. They said that it was a carbon build up. So they had the dealer do a decarbonasation which removes the carbon build up. When it was finished, it was worse than it was before they worked on it. I called general motors back and then they told me that the pistons are smaller than normal and that they are slapping around in the cylinder walls causing the knocking noise, and that they are not doing nothing about it because it is not doing any damage to the motor. They offered me an extended warranty on the drive train and i declined it. I paid for a quiet running gas motor, not one that sounds like a diesel. The knocking noise decreases the trade in value, regardless if it is damaging the motor or not. If i wanted a diesel i would have bought one. I have been going round and round with gm and the dealer for almost two years and have got nowhere.

My vehicle taps very loud when i first crank cold engine. Dealer says this is carbon build-up because of new emmisions regulations and wont harm engine. My dealer says they can perform a treatment for approx. $100.00 that will correct but needs to be done every 20000 miles. Myvehicle is still under new car warranty but they said this service is not covered. I have several friend experiencing same problem. I feel this is a defect in the new general motors engine. Thanks

Jack that comes withvehicle has a head that is about one inch in diameter. Consumer believes thatjack cannot properly liftvehicle. The consumer states that it was difficult to safely use and remove this jack.

While driving at night, consumer pushed dome light over ride button, immediately headlights and dash lights went out. Vehicle was taken to dealer, gmc was contacted. Manufacturer stated this was the design of the vehicle.to press again 4 times within 6 seconds. This would prompt all lights to come on again. There is a section in owners manual where this fact is mentioned, but not in clear terms.dealer could not fix.

Consumer stated the vehicle would leak diesel fuel into the oil, and overflow when the injectors stuck open. The problem happened 14 times. Vehicle would go into limp mode, and would reach certain rpms when this happens.

State inspection, failed due to rotted fuel filler neck. Was told for awhile it was due to gas cap, replaced that, light would go on and off.when it would no longer go off took back to dealers.dealership replaced fuel filler neck, along with valve/sensor at a cost of over $500. Gm will not help as they claim it was due to "environmental factors" (we live in ma).also, parking brake backing plates rusted out, e-brake cables frozen, had to replace those at another $850. Old parts not available, dealer repaired.

I recently purchased a 2001 gmc sierra, the first tank of fuel that was put in the fuel gage jumps from full to empty, it has continued to do this until the current date, i have several people i have talked to in my area with same vehicle with different years 1999-2002, experiencing same problem, was told by mechanics that it is the fuel sending unit, have talked to people who's vehicle"s have shut down because of it, should be a recall on this problem, very unsafe!

Fuel gauge has never worked properly( jumps from 1/2 tank to empty) today i was drive on ! 40 east at the posted speed of 75 mph with 1/2 tank of fueland the vehicle just shut down, i did get safley to the shoulder, to find i was out of fuel ...i t read 1/2 tank previously i had heard of this happening to other gmc owners in this area but it was their fuel pumps.the dealer says it is the local refinery's falt for additvies in the fuel .. And this is the only area where the fuel system is being affected. My employeer had 2 fuel pumps put in her new gmc yukon in 6 months, at her expense.i do not want to pay for defective parts or an vehicle that is unsafe for the intersate.

My gas gauge dances constantly or just stays on empty with gas gauge always on gmc sierra 2001. Sometimes it shows the gas level correctly for about 30 minutes after getting gas then it moves around or goes to empty even though it is not empty.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving any speed, the gas gauge goes up and down, and the fuel light flashes.the dealership determined the fuel sending unit needs to be replaced.

Vehicle stopped running while driving 20 mph, with a quarter of tank of fuel registered on the fuel gauge.dealer was notified, anddealer informedconsumerthat the vehicle was not covered under a recall.

Fuel gauge has been malfunctioning for several months now - sometimes works properly, but other times reads empty when tank is full, reads more fuel than in tank, etc.i have several friends who have this generation of gm full-size truck (gmc sierra, chevy silverado, gmc yukon, chevy tahoe - gmt800 series), and most of them have the same problem.i am told that the issue is with the fuel sending unit.

Front brake line failed.completely rusted, it blew out inside one the clips that hold it in place.horrible design.truck is sitting in my driveway because i cannot afford to repair brakes.estimate was over 1500, just to replace the lines, with coated steel, not stainless.fuel lines are all rusted as well.all need replacement.

Backed out of driveway and brake pedal felt soft.got to end of street and suspecting a problem began slowing early.brake pedal went to the floor with very little pressure and very little stopping power.went back to house and found a large puddle of brake fluid where the truck had been sitting.opened the hood to look at brake reservoir and found it empty but also realized all hard brake lines in view were heavily corroded and crusted.leak was from burst hard line below driver.all hard lines are heavily crusted and corroded near the point of failure if not already failed.some fuel lines also corroded.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that the filler neck was rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 100,005.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle's parking brake was engaged and while unloading a boat from a trailer, the parking brake disengaged and the vehicle rolled back.afterwards the contact initially inspected the vehicle and it was discovered that the parking brake was not engaging properly.there were no previous problems with the parking brake.an authorized dealer was contacted regarding the issue.the dealer determined the brake shoes of the parking brake needed to be replaced.although the problem persisted no repairs were made. Phone interview update (april 4, 2006): the complainant acknowledged that he had inadverdently left the shifter between 'p' and 'r'. When he saw his pickup started to roll down the ramp, he immediately jump back in and hit the service brake to stop the truck.

The vehicle was taken to an inspectionagency for inspection.thetechnician informed the driver that the emergency brake was inoperative.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the emergency brake needed to be replaced.please provide further details. *la

Parking brake will not hold.

Emergency parking brake does not work. When taken to get serviced the cause could not be determined.

I have a 2001 sierra pickup with auto trans and the parking bake is not working.the other day i set the brake in the drive way and noticed the truck started to roll down the driveway (it was in neutral).i adjusted the brake to its maximum setting and it still will not hold the vehicle.since then i have pulled the wheel rotor to inspect the parking brake.it is a one piece shoe design.the lining is worn funny.i believe this is the same parking brake system that is being recalled in the manual trans version of this truck.i will have to replace the lining, however i don't know why it wore out in the first place

Sirs/madam;since new the brakes have been spongy. They work but, i am always on alert. The abs has never worked properly. I have replaced the front rotors with grooved and relieved with drilled holes. I have replaced the brake lining all around. With no difference. My pickup is equipped with rotors. I have complained to the dealership where i bought the pickup. Was told the is/was no warranty implied for braking systems. I have had the brake fluid flushed, still no difference. I am very easy on the braking system. I have an automatic trans and i use it like a standard. The only problem with the brakes that i could think of, might be the equalizer valve. I am only a novice with these brakes even though i am a mechanic by trade.pertaining to the park brake. After a fashion and $246 spent at the dealership where they said i had left the park brake on, which i did not, i figured out what the problem was. The contact surface for the park brake lining was egg shaped. I had it machined, re-installed the components and my park brake was now functional. From new, i was unable to use the park brake because it never worked. Now the park brake holds my pickup.to wit a few years past there was law suit which i joined because of this very problem. I did receive compensation which made up for the cost at the dealership for "repairs". I understand this 12 years in the making but, the braking problem persists. Thank you for your time and working on keeping the highways as safe as possible.

Dt*: the contact stated while having an inspection performed, it was determined the parking brake was inoperable.there was a nhtsa recall, # 05v161000, regarding the parking brake.the recall was for vehicles with manual transmissions.the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the automatic transmission and vin.

I have a 2001 gmc pickup. The right rear brake assembly has failed twice. June 2003 and again this month.both times requiring a $650 fix. Something about the emergency brake/disc brake system but the dealer was vague.

When parking brake is applied on a slight incline, the vehicle will roll. Dealer examined vehicle and found no problem with the parking brake. The brakes have been serviced and they still do not hold. *jg

Purchased from dealership with a 2-yr inspection sticker. After sticker expired, went to have vehicle inspected. Failed due to vehicle will move forward even though emergency brake is engaged. Inspector commented that many gmc sierras are failing due to this reason. Contacted dealership service advisor who also agreed with statement. He said gmc was repairing at no cost those vehicles that had 36,000 miles or less. Since ours has 55,000 miles recommended contacting gmc. Contacted gmc who said they have no evidence of this being a common problem, but are repairing vehichles if less than 23.000 miles with this problem at no charge. In addition gmc said problem is due to the wearing of emergency brake pads. Complaint #8006225 is similar to ours.

Dt: the parking brake has never operated properly. It goes all the way to the floor. Owner has had the parkingbrake changed and it still did not work. Owner thoughtthe cable assembly was the problem. He found this information in the consumer reports in july 2005 issue. The owner contacted gmand the dealership, and they have not done anything to help him. When the truck was unloading a boat on a ramp, the parkingbrake was not holding the truck. It has worked for the past 4 years. Owner complained to the dealership, but the dealership said they would not fix the problem.*sbphone interview update (april 4, 2006): the complainant (driver) was behind the wheel when he found that the parking brakes alone would not immobilize the vehicle. The vehicle did not roll back into the water.

While driving on the hwy. Towing my 28 ft 5th wheel trailer on level ground we experienced a loud bang and the feeling like something in the driveline had broken. Consumer states when applying brakes, the vehicle downshifted to a low gear and would not shift out, the back tires locked up and caused the vehicle to lock up and fishtail.

We have a 2001 gmc crew cab that we have had for 26 months.be bought it brand new so we would be less likely to have problems.we have had 3 new transmissions (not including the factory one).it is in the repair shop again because when you put the truck in reverse it dies. Not every time but it happens quite often.it was in the shop before for the same exact problem which resulted in 1 of the 3 new transmissions. Lets hope it doesn't need another one.this is getting old!!!!!!!!!!!

Automatic transmission makes gear noise in 1st and 4th gears.at purchase, vehicle had bad vibration problem.dealer balanced wheels, which did not eliminate problem.dealer tested tires and found one defective tire...the other three had to be "indexed" on the wheels.driveshaft, suspension components/hardware and parts of the chassis have significant rust. (tiresize: p235/75r16)

The transmission has a problem that causes the truck to lurch forward just after coming to a complete stop. The lurch can be quite strong causing the vehicle to jump forward in excess of a foot. The lurch occurs at unpredictable times and without warning. The best description i can offer is that it feals as if the vehicle has been hit in the rear by another vehicle. It has occured at least 6 times on various occasions.

Transmission surges at all speeds. Intermittent. Deal states could not reproduce problem. Transmission has slipped into gear while taking off from a stoplight. Rpm's went up to 2000 before engaging gear.

The transmission violently shifts into gear upon acceleration from a stop or slow speed. This problem has occurred as many as ten times since the original date of purchase. On may 4th it occured so violently that the passenger in the rear hit his head on the rear window.in this incident the shift was so hard the rear wheels left the ground(all 4) and then the truck lurched forward.this is a serious defect that could caused harm to those inside the truck and could harm other drivers or pedestrians.the truck seems to go to a neutral operation even though you are in drive then when the rpm"s icrease to above 2,000 it suddenly shifts.i have taken the truck to the dealer 5 times and recently completed arbitration to take the truck back.the gmc represenitive claimed that this was normal for a "heavy duty"transmission such as the allison. The best discription of the problem is it feels as if you have been hit from the rear by another vehicle at 15-20 mph.

Dt:caller said at low speeds the abs kicked in and made it hard to stop vehicle when slowing down. Caller had the problem corrected three times. Had them replacethe abs in the spring of 2003, 2004 and in may of 2005. Dealer said the first time was a hub assembly and the other two it was the rotors. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet.

The antilock brakes engaged at 10 mph while driving on dry road conditions.the problem was repaired on october 14, 2004.the problem was due to internal hub failure in which both hubs were replaced.the brakes never failed at high speeds. The abs light stayed on. *sc

Therewas a large "booming" noise coming from vehicle everytimeconsumer drove it.this noise occurred when pulling away from a stopped position.consumer tookvehicle to dealership, and they greaseddifferential.he was told this would correct the problem.consumerstill experienced the problem dealership said that there was nothing more they could do.please provide any additional information/attachments.

I own a 2001 gmc sierra. I noticed that when i put my truck in 4 low on my 4x4 (manual shift),and i put the truck in reverse, you can feel the torque. When i go and put the truck into park it starts to grind while engaging in the park position. I brought it to a gmc dealership and they told me that it is normal for the transfer case to do this. If you ask me, if there is grinding noises on moving parts, something is not right or "normal".

Dt: the contact wa shaving problems with the push button module that engages the four wheel drive. The vehicle is getting stuck between two wheel and four wheel drive. He has talked to gm, and vehiclewas not under a recall. This has been happening for three years. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealership for any repairs.

The consumer heard a clunking noise and a pulsating sensation in the steering column while making turns.the consumer was told that the wrong lubricant was used at the factory for the steering column shaft.the shaft was unable to be lubricated because the lubricant would not penetrate between the first and second sleeve.the intermediate steering shaft was replaced and the problem got worse.four wheel drive warning light came on.*tc

Ihave a problem with the right side seatbelt on my 2001 gmc sierra pickup for the third time since i bought the truck the seat belt stoped working it pulls tight in the seat making itunuseablewithout warning my wife was in southdakota with her daughter and it tightened up they had to finish the trip without it . I know there was a recall on thr 2000 trucks for seatbelts . My truck was made in mid2000 and put into service in august 2000. Could i have gotten one of the old seatbelts . Now for the second time i have to pay for a new seat belt . The second time it happened was covered underwarrenty as it happened only six months after the first time now almost 2 years to the day it happened again. I am a firm believer in wearing belts so now for 2 weeks no one can ride in my truck. I still have not got the new belt

Consumer states that the passenger side seat belts locking mechanism frequently locks the belt in a retracted or partially retracted position, the dealer replaced the belt, however it stilled operated the same, the dealer states that the belt was intended to secure a child seat, therefore being more sensitive to deceleration that the drivers belt, while in motion, the belt becomes so short and is uncomforting to the passenger.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. While driving 15 mph, the brake pedal failed to depress. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the sensors on the front of the vehicle failed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the vin was not included. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the brakes failed to respond. The contact had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the brake lines had rust build up. The independent mechanic repaired one brake line. The manufacturer had not been notified. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

Rear brake line corroded, leaking.antilock speed sensor engages during low speed stopping - even after recall work was done.

05068a product safety recall front wheel speed sensor corrosion.my vehicle was serviced for this recall in 2006 which involved removing and cleaning the abs sensor and reinstalling it.no redesign was created to improve this flawed design.i'm having the same failures described and covered in this recall.while moving at slow speeds in dry conditions abs kicks in and increases my stopping distance.i hit a parked car in a parking lot due to this defect.my vehicle was in motion at <5mph on dry pavement when the breaks went into 'abs mode' and hit a stationary parked car.luckily no one was hurt.when i contacted gmc i was told that this would not be covered under the recall because it was already serviced for this recall in 2006 and that the issue was therefore closed.in my case the original recall was not adequate and my car breaks still failed even though serviced in 2006.i hope this doesn't start to occur with all of the vehicles that were serviced ~10 years ago which is why i'm filing this complaint.link to recall: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/acm5671334/rcrit-05v379-9258.pdf

Went to stop at traffic light and experienced brake line rupture due to excessive rust. Had to use emergency brake to coast to a stop. Fortunate no cars were in lane.$1200.00 for repair of lines.

On 12/14/2012. I entered a controlled intersection, went to apply brakes and brake pedal went to floor.truck stopped, but i needed to apply a lot of pressure.checked brake fluid and found it was a pint low.added brake fluid, but brake pedal still needed to be pushed to floor to stop vehicle. Brought truck to mechanic on 12/18/12.they put truck on lift, found entire brake system was corroded.the back plate was also corroded.to repair, all brake lines, bolts need to be replaced, as many parts have rusted away completely.estimate is over $4,000 to repair.

Heading into parking spot at walmart , applied brakes would not stop , heading head on into parked car , slammed emergency brake , put into neutral , finally stopped . Had to have towed to mechanic brake lines all burst due to rust , mechanic said cost to fix , approx. $1000 or more ? which i don't have . Thank god i was going slow and didn't cause any injury , pour design and pour quality parts per mechanic on gm's part , notice a lot of complaints on these era of trucks.

I was on my way home from an event this past saturday heading to drop off my son. After dropping him off i continued home. I was traveling about 35 mph when the light turned red and i depressed the brake and was terrified when it went down to the floor. Although i have as able to come to a stop without incident i have as still terrified. I am a disabled veteran with a heart condition and could have had a heart attack.i had my truck looked at by my certified mechanic and he told me that my brake line ruptured due to rust and it will cost me around $1000.00 for repairs.i have had many many cars and trucks in my lifetime and never ever experienced any problems of this nature. It seems to me the manufacture would allow for these northern conditions with the parts they use in production.

I was traveling on i-95 south in virginia on the hov lanes at about 1:30 pm approaching the route 1 exit. Traffic was dead stopped in front of a moderate flow of traffic and everyone quickly slammed the brakes (including me) to slow and stop to prevent rear ending the stopped cars. Traffic was flowing at approximately 75 mph when i slammed my brakes. The brakes grabbed momentarily and then i heard a loud pop and the brake pedal went to the floor; the vehicle brakes were gone. No pressure was at the pedal even as i pumped it.the only way out was to hit the should and berm and take the route 1 exit to coast to a stop; which i did.no fluid loss was evident at the master cylinder reservoir and i couldn't see evidence of a blown line or brake caliper until i got the vehicle home and noticed the metal (steel) brake line between the master cylinder and the anti-lock brake control valve/module was leaking at a pit in the line caused by rust. The point was under the driver side floor pan on the outside of the frame and parallel with the frame.it blew a rusted pitted spot on the line under pressure..

Was driving on highway and was approaching a red traffic light. Pushed down on brake pedal which when all the way down to the floor. I immediately down shifted the transmission from "d" to "3" and after slowing down to around 35 mph, down shifted to "1" slowed down more and then shifted to "2". At that point, i was approaching a car ahead of me, waiting at the red light, and i began slowly applying the parking brake and finally came to a stop, narrowly missing the car in front of me. After pulling off the side of the road, i looked under the truck and determined that brake fluid was leaking from a brake line located in the area under the driver's seat location.

It was snowing and icy outside. I attempted to brake for an upcoming red light. The brake pedal went completely to the floor. I had very little braking power. I steered to the curb to avoid traffic in the intersection. I jumped the curb and came to a stop against a power pole. Damage to the power pole and to the front of my truck. One of the steel brake lines ruptured. Upon closer inspection, all the brake and fuel lines were severely corroded.

Brake line failed and broke, upon inspection all brake lines were corroded and brittle, had to replace all brake lines.

Steppedon brakes approaching yellow light ,sailed right though light.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the brake pedal became stuck to the floor board while attempting to depress the brakes. The contact was able to stop the vehicle with an abnormal increase in stopping distance. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the rear brake line was leaking fluid due to corrosion. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 115,000.

The first day i noticed that the brake pedal went closer to the floor before the brakes activated.the second day the pedal nearly touched the floor and then the brake warning light came on.i took the vehicle to my neighborhood indy tire center where they quickly determined brake line failure near the left rear wheel.the brake line had rusted completely causing a hole and rapid loss of brake fluid.a new teflon coated main brake line and fittingswas installed along with new brake fluid.other brake lines were examine and found to be rusted but not compromised. The total cost of repair was $461.38.

Brake pedal went to flood, had difficulty stopping truck, leaking brake fluid.

Brake pedal moved all the way to floor with no apparent hydraulic pressure which failed to engage brakes when shifting into drive. Inspection of brake lines beneath drivers side door revealed excessive rust and a hole in steel brake line leaking fluid.

Metal brake lines rusted causing brakes to fail and replacement of master cylinder and brake lines.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the brake pedal was entirely depressed and the vehicle rolled into an intersection. The contact stated that the emergency brake was applied in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 227,570.

I pulled into my driveway and approached the garage, applied brakes and all they did was vibrate and make that pulse noise. No mater how hard i pushed the pedal, the truck would not stop and i went through the garage door and also knocked over my harley that was in the garage. I cant believe the amount of common story's about this brake issue. There should be a class action lawsuit.

Brake line ruptured when attempting to stop at a red light. Had to veer into adjacent lane to avoid rear ending truck stopped in front of me. Very fortunate!

I lost my brakes while pulling out onto the road.pedal went to the floor before truck began to slow down, abs kicked on and grinding rotors before a full stop.brake line failed leaking fluid under driver's side door - most likely due to rust.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while attempting to stop, the abs failed and the vehicle started to pull to the right. The contact determined that the cause of the failure was a defective wheel speed sensor.the vin was not affected by nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 105,000....updated 06-11-15 updated 11/23/2015

The chassis brake lines on my 2001 gmc sierra 1500 are rusted to the point that they are falling apart. I noticed last week that the brake pedal feel is starting to get mushy. After inspecting the entire brake system i discovered that all of the hard chassis brake lines are rusted and flaking apart. I can no longer safely drive this truck until these lines are replaced.

Experienced complete failure of the braking system. Fortunately the vehicle was only traveling 15mph and in an area that wasn't congested with traffic. I was able to stop by using the roadside berm banking and avoided any further damage. Vehicle was towed to a nearby gm dealership where it was determined that both brake lines had corroded so badly it caused the lines to rupture resulting in an immediate loss of pressure and complete brake failure. Just days earlier i had the brakes serviced at a different gm dealership near my home and there was no mention of this condition nor the previous reports of this problem from other owners as noted on this web site. Even if gm or the nhtsa does not deem this issue frequent enough to issue a tsb, at minimum a service warning/recommendation should be issued to gm dealerships and other registered service providers alerting them to inspect for this condition while servicing the braking systems for these model years. Death or serious injury can and most likely will occur as there are many vehicles from these model years still on the road.

While driving to work in the morning, applied brakes and the pedal seemed to go down further than normal. Was exiting freeway and applied the brakes, the pedal went down to the floor but the vehicle stopped. I then pumped the brake pedal and it went to the floor and the vehicle started to roll. I was able to pull off to the side of the exit ramp and get vehicle to stop by putting it into reverse then park. It now had complete brake failure.after inspecting under the vehicle noticed that a brake line had rusted through and failed. This one line failure caused both the front and rear brakes not to apply at all. After inspecting further noticed that all the brake lines have severe corrosion and look like they could fail at anytime.

This brake line rupture happened while my wife was @ 15 mph stopping for traffic .how she managed to stop i don't know. She does not like driving this gmc 2500 hd pickup because it is scary for her, after this brake line rupture she will probably never drive this vehicle again. Thanks general motors a bunch for the nonexistent warning about this common occurrence.the general motors profit means more to them than the safety of their customers precious families.

The contact stated that while reversing from a residential driveway, she the brakes failed and brake fluid leaked from the vehicle abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that they needed to replace the brake lines. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there were no recalls for the vehicle. The failure mileage was 88,000 and the current mileage was 100,005. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact was driving approximately 2 mph when the brakes failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

The abs light comes on and the truck does not make a complete stop. The antilock brakes due not work and truck tends to glide. It does this week after week. I am tired of having my truck diagnosed and they can't find the problem. I have come so close to having several accidents because of this antilock brakes that make my brakes go out. I have to shift the truck to park and turn off completely. The brake pedal goes down all the way and emergency brake does not work either.

Truck exhibits failure of braking at slow speeds; pedal hard and no brake;hit building at slow speed minimal damge;truck had 38,000 miles. Took to dealer;they said knew what was wrong; changed out left front hub and speed sensor $405.00.

The vehicles' abs brakes fails while driving at low speeds. This almost resulted in an accident.the dealership indicated that this is a common problem with this model vehicle.please provide more details. Mr

Abs front speed sensor right hand(passenger) side failure.when applying brakes our 2001 gmc sierra z71 at speeds below 5mph would act like the abs systems was kicking in for slippery road conditions.this would cause us not being able to stop when we would of liked to of stopped.this truck has only 35,000 miles of adult driven, easy, mostly non-town driving, so the brakes are not continually being applied.this is a very scary situation and we had to park this truck until we were able to get it into the shop and have it repaired.cost of repair $391.36.

Anti-locking brakes - problem with abs brakes - as brakes applied on dry or wet surface, the worst brakes got, no matter if light or hard touch or slow or fast speed.gmc sierrra (2001) was brought in for repair after brakes failed causing slow speed collision withspouses pu truck in my driveway resulting in no damage or injuries.replaced one speed sensor (left front wheel) and cleaned other at my expense ($148.60 for parts, labor charge waived - mileage 35416).2nd complaint or request - dragging brakes or locking and pulling when applied3rd complaint or request - remove all four wheels and check brakes - results - repair include parts & labor at my expense - (mileage 41073)machine two front and two rear rotors and replace front and rear calipers plus free up slidders (parts $272, unknown breakdown on labor cost above and beyond).

I own a 2001 gmc sierra 4 wd pick-up with 45,000 miles that experienced anti-lock failure.the system would start pulsating at low speeds. I had many close calls(smashed in to my garage door once) before pulling the fuse as advised by the gm dealer.after further investigation i found that most everyone that i know with 99-2002 year gm vehicles had their fuses pulled as well. I called gm previously regarding other brake problems (anti-lock pump failure)(gm rotors that only last 6,000 mies) and the arrogant customer service personel try to convince you that they haven't had any complaints about their brake parts or systems and won't cover anything even though we know they are liars. I saw the nhtsa investigation notice and wanted to give my two cents. Thanks for making these crooks correct a dangerous situation.

Abs activates just before comming to complete stop.(5-8mph) abruptly extending stopping distance.problem showed up after truck was not driven for 4 days. Probably allowing corrosion to develope.virginia did use large quantities of salt this year for ice and snow removal.currently experiencing this problem. Not yet corrected.will see if removal, cleaning and lubrication of wheel sensors will solve problem.

Dt:all the brakes failed prematurely at 50,000. The brakes were making a squeaking noise, thought it was brake pads, took to dealer, and they said had complete brake failure. Use vehicle for loading and unloading boats in the salt water. Had 6 other gmc vehicles andnever had this problem.

Anti lock braking kicks in when it should not. We have found where vehicles sold in certain states where recalled for this. Pa is one of those states but our truck was not sold in pa until it was a year old. Gm says the speed sensor is not covered due to the vin number. Then they told me it was not covered due to mileage. But my point is if i had been notified of the recall seven years ago i would not be faced with an $1100.00 repair now.

At low speed the abs malfunctions regularly.

I was very lucky my children were not hurt, they use the truck all the time. I went to move my truck in the driveway, the brakes hit the floor.i got under the truck and saw that brake lines are really rusted bad.i haven't had a brake line problem since the 1960s.read that gmc and chevy brakes are now all falling part for anyone who bought them in the last 10 years.gmc / chevy choose to put people at risk.

While driving 35 mph the brakes failed without warning. The cause of the failure has not been determined.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at any speed a noise was heard, upon inspection the contact discovered the vacuum plates of the rear brakes were rusted through.the braking ability has been affected by this problem.the dealer has been alerted.

While bleeding the pass. Rear brakes i had a very sudden lose of pressure on the peddle and the peddle went right to the floor of the truck when pressed.after looking under thetruck i noticed that i had a brake line rupture along the frame under the drivers seat. After further inspection i realized that all of the brake lines in that area were very rusted and in need of replacement. Luckily i was not driving the truck and no accident occurred.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the brake pedal depressed to the floor. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and the contact noticed that there was a brake fluid leak. The vehicle was then towed to an automotive shop, where they cut off the rotten portion of the brake line and repaired it. The brake failure occurred a total of three times. The dealer did not diagnose the failure, but a private mechanic repaired the brake lines. The failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 145,000.

Upon starting the truck, the brake pedal went right to the floor and brake fluid drained under the drivers side door. A brake line rusted through causing a lack of braking power. There were no alarms prior to the failure. The truck is not drivable in this condition. None of the brakes grab and if this happened on the highway, someone would have been killed. Upon examination, all of the brake lines are rusted and will need to be replaced. Since gm does not manufacture replacement brake lines, each line will need to be bent and fitted by hand.i understand that nhtsa is investigating the problem and says there are 6.2 million vehicles that are possibly affected.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while reversing from a residential garage and applying the brakes, the brakes would not respond. The contact then shifted into park in order to stop the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the anti lock brake sensors would need to be replaced under recall nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:anti lock). The vehicle was repaired under the recall yet the failure recurred within one year. The manufacturer was contacted who referred him back to the dealer to have a diagnostics test performed. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

There is a current recall for an abs problem on my vehicle.i had this recall completed several years ago.recently, this recalled part failed again.gm denied my claim when i had this recall fixed for the second time.gm claims that a recall is a one time deal.i find this hard to believe.

2001 gmc sierra half ton pickup, abs activates at slow speeds, i understand there are recalls for this problem in other states, why not minnesota. Please help, this is a serious problem !!

Dt: the contact receivedrecall 05v379 concerning abs brakes. The abs system was cleaned previously and the sensor was replaced under warranty. He was experiencingthe problems again.therefore,he feltthe recall remedy was only a temporary solution.general motors should offer a permanent solution. An appointment has been made for having the recall work completed at this time.

Dt: 2001 gmc serria.there was a recall in canada, but there was no recall in the states on the anti lock brakes.whentraveling at slow speed and applying the brakes the anti lock brakes take over, resultingin extended stopping distance.this did not happen every time, may be one out of every five stops, but it seemed to be get worse.called the manufacturer, and they said the recall was not for thistruckbut onlyfor the ones produced in canada.this appeared to be something that was caused from the road salt which corroded the anti lock brake system.this started happening just a few months ago, and happened at least 50 times.

While applying brakes at 35 mph brakepedal went to the floor, vehicle slowed down, but continue on until it hit another vehicle.dealer / manufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information on this matter.

When coming to a stop at low speed and when depressingbrake pedal itwould travel to floorboard intermittently. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further information.

Shaft on power steering snapped, mechanic says happens a lot with full gm size trucks.

My 2001 gm sierra truck has a problem with the anti-lock brake system. When stoppingat low speeds the anti-lock brakes activate and the truck will not stop. My problem seems to be, exactly as reported in many news sources, with the wheel speed sensors. (ref: detnews.com may 27, 2005 by jeff plungis)

Dt:the consumer had the brakes fixed and then found out about a canada recall. When preparing to stop it sounded as if the abs kicked in and whenthe consumer applied the brakes it shuttered, but the vehicle would not stop. Thedealer replaced at their own expense the left sensor and wheel bearing about a year ago and now they have fixed the right side. The consumer had to pay for it himself, $500.50. Themanufacturer will not return his call. The consumer has the old part in his possession.

Dt: noticed onaugust 30, 2005 that the brakes did not work properly. There was a recall for the brakes, but the state of wisconsin was not included, when touching the brake the sensor did not read it and the pedal pushedfoot off of the brake.could come up to a stop sign and could not keep the pedal pushed down. There was no forewarning, and no matter what the road conditions were the vehiclestill did this. Contacted the dealer, and they said the consumer had toto pay out of pocket, but they had a lot of complaints on this.

Contact states:at very low speed anti lock brakes would kick in whenconsumerwould brake instead of braking the vehicle would keep moving, it doesn't matter what the weather condition is. It has been repaired at contact's expense.contact called gm, they said it needed two new hubs, including the bearings (left and right). Gm covered 1/2 of the cost.dealer diagnosed it without even looking at the vehicle because they had seen this before.

Dt:the contactreceived a recall 05v379000 concerning abs brakes.had previously the repair work done.when she contacted general motors, they told her they would reimburse her for the repair work, but she would have to pay for half of the remaining repair work. .sincerepairs the abs light has been on and it feels as though the brakes do not work.the vehicle was taken back to the dealership , and they found the electronic control module needed to be replaced.the abs remained lit after the repairs were made. Updated 11/29/05.

The consumer had difficulty stopping at low speeds. A few months later the problem recurred, but on the other side.

Consumer was driving 50-55 mph applied brakes and pedal felt spongy and went almost to floor. No braking action, brakes locked up, and vehicle skidded to right. No accident. Vehicle not taken to dealer yet. Pedal has felt this way since purchase.

Dt : the contact statedonoctober 1, 2004 the abs light was cameon andstayed on intermittently.contact has to increasestopping distance in order to get the vehicle to stop. The abs system will activated when coming to a stop. Contact stated she has taken the vehicle to the local dealers, and they said the abs module needed to be replaced.also, the contact statesthat the abs system did not work at all now.the abs brakesexperienced the same problem mentioned inthe recall.however, when contacting the dealer they claimedthat replacing the abs module wasnot part of the recall.

Dt:the contact stated this vehicle was included in the recall campaign for the abs.the dealer performed the recall repairs, but it did not remedy the problem.the dealer said the problem was the right front hub.the hub has been replaced one time already.after approximately 12,000 miles the vehicle started experiencing the same problems again.

The antilock brake system is activating at under 10 mph.i have called the gmc hot line and even though i have a 2001 gmc sierra 2500 truck which is one of the models identified as being in the recall for this problem i was informed that my vehicles vin number is not on the list, and that even though i am having the problem that gmc will not cover it.

Dt: the contactcomplained about an abs problemfor the past two years. The problem started out as intermittently, and has become more frequent over the past two years. The abs engaged at around 20 mph. She has been in contact with gm and a dealer. Neither of them offered any free remedy. There was nhtsa recall 05v379000, but the contact's vehicle is not included because it is a dually. The vehicle has never been to a dealer for inspection of the abs problem.

My 2001 gmc sierra pick up truck 43k miles , brakes failed while attempting to come to a stop in the parking lot of the long beach 24hr family fitness center resulting in the vehicle hitting a wall on jan 11 2006. I pushed the brake pedal to the floor and no brakes available. While foot on the brake trying to stop the vehicle, there came an indeterminate pulsing sound and vibration on the pedal. The vehicle hit the parking structure wall at a very slow speed (about 3-5 miles per hour). The truck is under an extended warrenty and the dealer found the front left wheel bearing and hub to have excessive play and was replaced with my $100.00 deductable.the damage to the truck was totaled at $2828.20.this is still an issue and gm has told me that their is nothing wrong with the brake system, however there are recalls in the north east states for the same problem, and over 250+ cases reported in crashes. Living by the ocean and where there is salt air present and with the 850k truckes recalled makes sense.gm can recall all of the trucks for tailgate support cables nation wide that are caused by corrosion but not a brake problem that effects trucks nation wide?

My abs system pumps the brakes as i slow to a stop.this often happens as i approach a stop sign.i press the brake pedal to stop, the truck slows, and just before it stops, the abs pump pumps once or twice.i can hear the pump and feel it in the pedal.i own a 2001 gmc sierra 1500, 4wd, extended cab.i removed the 2 front wheel sensors, as well as the vehicle speed sensor, cleaned them and replaced them.i also tested each sensor to verify that it showed the proper resistance value.none of this fixed the problem.

Dt:abs system is engaging at low speeds.happens on dry pavement.taken to dealer, had the erosion cleaned off, and the fix helped for about 18 months.moving downward on a hill the brakes failed completely.multiple near-misses.

Dt: contact states the abs brakes come on at below 10 mph.it causes the trucknot stop. It has been happening for the last month. It has gotten progressively worse. There are no lights that come on inside the truck when this occurs.he has written a complaint to the manufacturer, and they told him to take it to the dealer. He has not taken it to a dealer yet. He has researched this and knows itis an ongoing problem.

Brakes working poorly at slow speeds and abs engaging on dry pavement at stop signs.replaced all pads and rotors, still little change in braking.took vehicle to precision auto in mayville wi, to have them check brakes.technician keith pastorius recommended replacing abs sensors and hub assy's on both sides as this is a common problem on these trucks.charged $60.00 for scan tool diagnostics.(invoice#7964)i did research on the web and found recall 05v379000 matching same symptoms i have.i took vehicle to holiday auto, fon du lac wi they said it was definitely the sensors corroded, but my vin number was not included yet in the recall.they found "document 1748482-wheel speed sensors need to be cleaned."they tried to remove sensors, and they broke.charged me $200.00 and said if the recall includes my vehicle in the next few months, i could be reimbursed.(invoice#257356) jan 27 2006.i feel this repair should be covered as a warranty recall (as did the service advisor at the dealer) because symptoms and defective parts are synonymous with other recall vehicles of the same year, and when the dealer drove the vehicle in they almost went through the service bay door from poor braking.thank you in advance for any investigating you do on my issue.i will be glad to help with any other information if necessary.

Dt:the consumer staed there is a problem with braking at low speeds..the service dealer replaced the abs sensors due to corrosion.this did remedy the problem with the abs.

Dt: the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign05v379000 concerning the anti-lock brakes. This vehicle has the sameproblemsas indicated in the recall, but itis not included in the recall due to vin.no repairs have been made.

Brakes will go out while driving, and the pedal will go to the floor before the vehicle even starts to slow down.contacted the dealer, and the dealer is not willing to do anything.the consumer states that the ride control will not go on;there is an internal short-replaced the ride control, the consumer states that the abs light stays on-faulty speed sensors, and right front seat belt is not retracting.*scc

Contact states:at low speeds the abs locked up.the same problem happened toconsumer'sother gmc sierra .dealer said that the front wheel bearing/hub assembly was the problem. When the abs kicked in it resulted in extended stopping distance. No prior warning to the failure.

While braking at a stop light, my 2001 gmc sierra 2500hd, proceeded to slide into the car in front, light snow was on the ground and a little wet, speed was about 25 miles an hour less at impact, is this related to the investigation for gm trucks ?also this past year at a stop sign, when i was braking the abs kick in but the petal went to the floor, low speed but i had to put in neutral and take evasive action to prevent entering the intersection and missed stricking a car?

In 2001 my wife and i purchased a new 2001 gmc sierra 1500 xxx].we hadn't had the vehicle long, roughly 20,000 miles, before we noticed an intermittent tapping feeling when attempting to brake.not only did the brake tap, but it would not slow the vehicle properly and you would have to pump the brake.i thought it could have been the abs, but was not sure.we had the vehicle checked out by our local dealer who advised there was no problem.the problem with the braking persisted.last year sometime we heard of a canadian recall due to the abs system activating improperly.we contacted the dealer who advised it was a recall in canada and not the u.s.; therefore they would not do anything.we recently heard of a recall in the u.s. For the same problem.after calling the dealer we were informed that our vin was out of a different factory than that of the recall.i was also informed during this call that gm would not fix the problem until mandated to do so by the federal government.having two young children i do not feel my vehicle is safe and believe gm should have voluntarily fixed the problem with the brakes, as i believe this is the same problem that has triggered the recent recalls.however, gm, specifically mckay motors a gmc dealership, refuses to address the issue until mandated by a governing authority.i am asking that you consider an investigation into my vehicles factory and ultimately a recall to fix the problem we are experiencing. Dt: abs brakes on 2001 gmc sierra.at a little bit of snow andat low speeds less that 15 mph the abs kicked in. Had it looked at, andmechanic said it was fine.i did hear that nhtsa was investigating this problem. Consumer was involved in onelow speed accident.

Low speed abs activation, the abs braking system engages at low speed and the truck will not stop when it is suppose to.this has happened on several occosians and has resulted in several close calls for accidents.the problem is that the brakes will not stop the truck like they should because abs engages.there is absolutly no reason for the abs to be engaging.have seen multiple reports of this same issue on gm trucks.

1. Have had several failures of abs system in my 2001 gmc sierra 4x4.there were no exact events leading up to this problem.2. Failures have not resulted in any major accidents, but have come close to causing accidents either solo or with other vehicles because the vehicle did not want to stop.i have fishtailed because of this, almost hit a pole, almost hit other vehicles, etc.the abs should engage and stop me, but when i brake hard for any reason, the brake pedal goes to the floor and i don't stop like i should.this is at highway speeds as well as residential (<25 mph) speeds!at no time did i have any pre-warning of an impending failure.my truck is equiped with the service/warning computer on the dash, and at no time did it ever state there was a problem or pending problem with my abs system.the [xxx] thing tells me when it's time for an oil change, but when it comes to something as important as my brakes it does nothing.3. While under warranty, i had the same code show up on my vehicle and had the same parts replaced and the same diagnosis of a short in the abs system.this is not the only electrical short i have had in the system (4x4 light and other warnings have come up for no reason before, but never anything with the abs), but it is the one that i am most concerned about.now that i am out of warranty, and gmc didn't want to do anything about this problem (ie let me exchange the truck while it was still newer, or extend my warranty, etc.), i am complaining strongly because the failure is back.i have had problems with this truck from day one of having it, starting with a radiator leak, transmission u-joint was worn on delivery and had to be replaced, on to the dealer swapping my wheels and tires for ones off a different truck, electrical shorts that cause other warnings to come on that aren't real problems, the window guide is broken...but never once did the abs warning come on!i feel this truck is a lemon and should be replaced!information redacted pursuant to the freedom

Dt: abs brake system is not working correctly. Tried to call gm, and they will not returnthe calls. The brake light also comes on.car vibrates whenapplyingthe brakes.*sb

Dt*: the contact stated at low speeds the abs activated.there wasnhtsa recall campaign05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

Dt: the contact stated that whenapplying brake pressure at low speeds the abs would activate followed by a rubbing noise.there was nhtsarecall05v379000 involving the anti lock brakes.this vehiclehadthe samefailureas indicated in the recall.however, thisvehicle was not included in the recall due to vin. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for repairs.after the repairs were performed there have been no further problems.the consumer was led to believe he would receive reimbursement. Updated 11/29/05.

The antilock brakes engaged at 10 mph while driving on dry road conditions.the problem was repaired on october 14, 2004.the problem was due to internal hub failure in which both hubs were replaced.the brakes never failed at high speeds. The abs light stayed on. *sc

Dt:at low speeds, the abs activated on dry pavement.the consumer was pulling into a parking space when brakes froze and vehicle struck another vehicle.this was the first time the pedal froze with no brakes whatsoever.the consumer feels this is very dangerous.the abs did come on a couple time afterwards and the pedal also froze again.took car to dealer but had no repairs made.

The breaks on my 2001 gmc 1500 sierra began kicking back during stops on dry clean pavement near the end of the stop.this caused me on numerous occasions to nearly hit cars in front of me at stop signs and in parking lots.i also use this vehicle for work around my property and have nearly run into trees and equipment near my vehicle.i took the vehicle to a local dealer, hawkins chevrolet oldsmobile, inc. And was told the abs speed sensor was corroded and not working properly.they replaced the abs sensors on the two front wheels on 8/17/05 under invoice ctcs85615.i was especially concerned with this problem as my other vehicle, a 2002 chevrolet suburban began to have this same problem at the same time.i had two vehicles which were unsafe to drive at the same time.i filed a complaint with nhtsa about the suburban (odi number 10132681) on 8/12/05 and also contacted gm customer service.i was denied any help with my problem and was given a file number 1-355599627 and therefore did not contact customer service about my sierra truck.i conducted some internet research and found that these model type vehicles in the years 1999 to 2002 were recalled in canada for this same problem.i also spoke to my sister's family about their 1999 gmc sierra and were told that they too have replaced these sensors, but did not file a complaint with nhtsa or gm.

Drivind down 1603 east bound approaching stop light and felt small ripples in the road and anti lock system kicked in and was unable to stop in time and hit a full size 2001 to 2004 chevy pick up in the rear bumper. No injuries and crash was between 10 and 20 mph and an estimate of damage between the 2 vehicles was 2000.00 to 2500.00. As of may 3 2005 i am having the brakes serviced and sensors checked. After reading the article on the internet about a possibility of a problem with the anti-lock system i thought it might have just been a fluke being that this happened on dry pavement and sunny conditions.

Abs activates at slow speeds.

Dt the braking systemfailed at 10 mph . Had two technicans that verifiedwhat was happening with the vehicle and that was through the dealer. This happened on january 11, 2005. Expected to get a recall letter but this vehicke was not included due to vin.

When coming to a stop the abs activates below 10 mph. I have to physically stand on the brake pedal to stop my vehicle from hitting the vehicle in front of me!

Dt: the contact states there isnhtsa recall campaign05v379000 regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.updated 1/25/2006 - while driving at speeds less than 10 mph the vehicle was extremely hard to stop and resulted in extended stopping distance.the abs recall is not valid for the state in which the consumer lives therefore the consumer had to pay for the repairs.the dealer cleaned the wheel speed sensor area and replaced the broken left front wheel speed sensor.

Constant low speed antilock failure.

2001 gmc sierra when i come in for stop the abs kicks in and the truck will not stop. Will go about 5 to 10 feet from were you want it to stop it. I called gmc after hearing about the recall for 2001 trucks and they said that my vin number was not on the recallthey had to of used the same parts on all of their trucks for that year so they are lyingand my brake rotors fall apart about 41,000 miles front and back they replaced them after some '!@#$% on my end and when i hit 83,000 miles the high quality gmc rotors that they replaced fall apart on me again and they said that was normal and would not replace them.

I own a 2001 gmc sierra pickup and have a concern about the recent investigation you are doing on the brakes fading at slow speeds. Over the winter this vehicle started doing the same thing. Less than 10 mph it acts like the antilock brakes are kicking in except the difference is it wont stop. You must quickly pump the pedal and then the brakes work. I am told this is a very expensive repair and my hopes are that there will be a recall and gm will have to pick up the tab. Can you tell me if this is a possibility in the near future or should i have them repaired and hope it doesn't happen again? i would be more than happy to let your investigators inspect my truck as it is not a random issue. It will happen every time you brake less than 10 mph. Thank you. Jeff newkirk fort wayne in. 260 627-3350 260 413-1116

The consumer experienced an intermittent problem with extended stopping distances whenbraking at any speed. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop. The mechanic cleaned the abs sensors and both front hubs.the abs system failed completly when the consumer backed the vehicle up.*tc

My 2001 gmc sierra 1500 [xxx] was recalled for unwanted abs brake system activation. I paid for the same repair ($363.20) out of my own pocket last oct. 28, 2004. Recently they started acting up again and the recall notice came out. (campaign #05v379000). I took my truck nov. 2, 2005 to harbor pontiac buick gmc, 9911 w. 300 north, michigan city, indiana. They confirmed that the sensors were bad and replaced them. They then told me that the problem still existed and that it would cost me $85 just to put it on the computer to check what the problem may be. They then told me that if it was the abs module, it will cost me $1,111.99 to replace it. I am a mechanic and feel that if the module is bad, the defective sensors caused it and i should not have to pay for it. My vehicle is still doing the exact same thing it was recalled for. I feel they should have to do whatever it takes to fix it at no cost to me. In addition, when i took it in yesterday for the repairs they only had (1) sensor in stock and refused to let me take the truck home for "liability" reasons. But today they are telling me that i can take it even though it is still doing the same thing it was recalled for. I can't aford to pay what they want to fix it so i am forced to drive it the way it is.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Contact states:contact is having problem withbrakes at slow speeds when he slows down the abs kicks in and experiencesextends stopping distance. No prior warning. Only does it like at speeds of 15 mph and under. This has almost caused two accidents.dealer admitted that one of his mechanics did fix another gmc sierra for the same problem. The abs problem caused the mechanic to hit the dock door at the dealer station because the vehicle would not stop. Dealer said that they had more problems with thisvehicle in snowy weather due to salt on the sensor.on a daily basis abs brakes pulsate and increase consumer's breaking distance at slow speeds. Consumer had several close accidents which were a result of the failed abs brakes.*sb

When the brakes were applied a noise would be present.the absbrakes would pop back and activate when they should not.*sc

Low speed abs activation on 2001 gmc sierra (see investigation pe05020)

Dt:consumer has been having trouble with abs sensors.first incident was over a year ago.at slow brakingat a speed of 5 mph or less the abs sensors activated, and this interefered with the braking itself. Was unable to stop. Had truck serviced in december 2003 for this problem.dealer did scan test, removed wheel speed sensor, and removed rust and debris from it as well.currently, having the sameproblem .called gmc and dealerstated the consumer would be responsible for this repair until there was a recall. This problem was worse when trying to park truck. There wasno braking power literally.

While drivingat any speed andapplying the brakes. Pedalwent all the way down, resulting in extended stopping distance.this vehicle was unsafe to drive. However, dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.

At 35,000 miles having expensive problems with the abs. Before coming to a complete stop, brake pedal would pulsate as if abs was engaging.the consumer had the problem repaired and it happend again only on the right front wheel.the brakes grind when almost at a completestop.*tc

While driving at a slow speed and coming to a stop my 2001 gmc sierra truck's brake pedal pulsates. I think there is something wrong with the anti-lock brake system.

Dt*:the contact stated while pulling away from a stop light at 10mph the abs activated causing the vehicle to crash into another vehicle.upon inspection the dealership was unable to determine the cause of the activation.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000 regarding the abs.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

While applying the brakes the pedal went to the floor and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle.driver took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanicdetermined that the problem could not be duplicated.consumer told service writer that the brake pedal goes almost to the floor while in park with the engine running. The technician duplicated the problem and informed the consumer that this was normal for abs brakes.

As i am coming to a stop near 10 mph, the anti lock brake system begins to pulse and the brake pedal becomes spongy and it is hard to stop without pumping the brakes. This is only occurring at speeds under 10 mph without any slippery road conditions.

Abs engaged while pulling into a parking space on a dry pavement. When this occurred, the consumer pressed both feeton the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle stopped when it rear ended a parked vehicle, and moved it 3 feet forward. Dealership indicated this was due to a faulty abs sensor.

First showing signs of brakes not working when i was pulling into a parking space and the brakes would not stop the vehicle properly, about a 5 day period before they were getting to the point of not able to stop without it failing. I had all brakes repaired thinking that was the issue. I didn't get into an accident but, it was very close to me rear ending someone at a stop light, had to apply emergency brake to get truck to stop completely. Took to dealer and they put in two front sensors for the abs systems. They state they have had to few they have replaced.

Antilock brake system- very difficult to stop truck at low speeds.no accidents, but near accidents, and no injuries.right front wheel speed sensors were replaced on 10/29/2003 and the left front wheel speed sensors were replaced on 10/08/2004. Both were replaced after the 36,000 mile warranty expired. Repeated failures of the truck bracking system to stop in sufficient time before panic set in!

Anti-lock braking system is activating at low speeds under normal braking conditions.

Intermittent brake failure with abs & red brake warning light coming on at the time of failure resulting in intermittently no brakes.dealer diagnosed part bpmv (hydraulic main brake control valve gm part#88964302 valve) failure caused by corroded wires.they were unable to repair wires only able to replace entire valve.old part is available for your inspection.

Brakes fail to stop my 2001 gmc pu while turn into a parking spot it caused me to crash intoa parked truck . The brake peadel was hard as a rock. Know i'm having to repair this person truck. Thank god their was no people in front of me !!!trying to ask dealern for recalls an tech bulletins no luck so far abs sysy in not right know act to soon. Please help for some one get killed.

While applying the brakes coming to a stop light the brake pedal went to the floor and got hard. Consumer had to pumps the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, anddealer informed consumer that both front wheel abs sensors needed to be replaced.

I am complaining and asking for further investigation into abs brake activations on my 2001 gmc 1500 sierra.i read an article that many failures were occurring and that this was being investigated.gm has recalled vehicles in canada along the "rust belt" i heard.i live in michigan and go through similar weather issues as canada and feel that the brake problems are also the same as the canadian issues.my abs brakes will activate almost daily and my vehicle is just outside of the warranty.i would encourage further investigation into this issue as clearly the same thing that has occurred in canada is also occurring here as well.with the added stopping distance as a result of the abs/brake failures, i do not want to see a senseless accident occur which could cause damage, injury or god forbid any deaths.please feel free to contact me at home if you need further.thank you for your time.marco a. Dt*: the contact stated that when the vehicle travels below 10 mph the vehicle goes into abs mode and the brakes don't work.the vehicle was taken to the dealers twice for the same replacement pertaining to the abs sensing unit and the front hub recall. The vehicle is currently presenting the same problems.updated 7/25/2006 -

If brakes are hit hard power steering will go out, and consumer is unable to turn wheel. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

I took my truck in for the state inspection... Kept failing due to brakes after changing the brakes it failed on the e-brake, that we have never used, when checked the was no e-brake pad on one side and you can see where it has worn, the cable does not even tighten like it is supposed to... For something we do not even use i do not understand how it can be this bad. I still have the e-brake we changed on my 2001 gmc sierra.

Vehicle is parked for extended period of time (2+ weeks) and the machined surface on the rear rotors rusts and peals off leaving a rough surface wearing out pads prematurely and necessitating the replacement of the rotors

Brake problem w/2001 gmc sierra.four wheel disc brakes.rotors were complelely rusted at 60k miles. Severe loss of brake power although pads were not ignificantly worn. This caused replacement of 4 rotors.gm mechanic said this is common problem.

Dt: contactowns a 2001 gmc sierra and there have been a problem with the brakes after the first 5,000 miles o.tthe brake hit perfectly on the outboard part of the brake, but the in board part of the brake of each brake is only hitting about 15 percent. Upon inspection the brake padwore out very little.by appearance, it a inside caliper was not milled square to the other side of the caliper, causing the brake padnot hit squarely on the rotor.the service dealer tested the vehicle and stated there was no recall on t and that the rotor waswarped.

Gmc 2001 sierra.brakes started to pulsate when stopping.only 23,000 miles on odometer.the front rotors were too rusted and pitted to resurface.the dealer replaced them, but said it was my fault they rusted because i"did not drive the vehicle enough".they would not cover the pads under warranty.

Premature failure of rear brake system. At 48005 miles the entire rear brake system comprised of rotors and pads needed replacement due to deterioration. The brakes were in such a state that the vehicle would not pass inspection. The front brakes only had normal wear. 50% of the vehicles miles are on the nys thruway.

I had a deer jump in front of me and i hit the brakes hard and my truck barely slowed down. I avoided the animal.i then tore apart all brakes and found the rear extremaly rusted. I replaced all pads, had rotors re-surfaced.rear rotors were barely salvigable after sandblasting.truck has 30,000 miles. This is not acceptable.

The rotors were completely rusted, preventing the brakes from working effectively. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and because it was not under warranty, dealer want to charge the consumer for repairs.vehicle had 57,000 miles. Consumer bought an extended warranty, and the dealer claimed that the warranty didn't cover the rotors.

Dt:thecontact stated the emergency brake didnot work properly. The contacttookthe vehicle to the dealer, and they adjusted the cable. This adjustment did not take care of the problem. The dealer stated they were aware of the problem, however, they couldnot do anything about it because there was no recall at this time. He stated there was a problem with the rear rotors. The rotor/drum assembly rusted.the rusting was causing a decrease in the braking power. The rotors were so rusted they couldnot be turned. Updated 11/30/2005 -

Brakes hydraulics failed when trying to stop.truck is in the shop now.the consumer stated the vehicle lost hydraulic pressure without warning. He was traveling 10 mph towards a busy intersection. Fortunately, he was able to turn into a parking lot and use the parking brake to stop. The rear brake lines on the vehicle rusted and leaked brake fluid, which resulted in the loss of pressure.

Steering wheel jerks in hand when depressing brakes while making a right hand turn. This can be duplicated with the vehicle idling in neutral or park. Dealership attempted to fix problem on 01/25/02 by replacing the power steering pump and brake booster. When i attempted to pick up my truck on the 25th, i was notified by marcus that they had not found the problem and that they considered the problem a safety issue, i wasn't allowed to have the vehicle but was given a loaner to drive. My vehicle was returned on the 29th and i was told that since the dealership could duplicate the "problem" on another new vehicle on the lot, gm had determined it was not a problem but a "characteristic" of this vehicle with the power assist. I contact gm customer assistance to make them aware of my concern with the safety of this vehicle but to no avail. I asked them to document my concerns. It is apparent that the dealership was initially concerned that there was a safety issue with this vehicle or they would have returned it on the 25th. I am concerned with gm's response that this is a "characteristic" of the vehicle just because some others exhibit the same problem. I was just recently made aware of your website and would greatly appreciate your assistance with this matter. Thank you! scott

A gmc service manager conveyed to me that several gm truck owners have reported excessive wear to the steering shaft leading through the firewall.wear at a u joint occurs around 15,000 to 25,000 miles due to excessive torque on the joint, as explained to me by a gm service manager.gm has recognized the problem by providing a new steering rod.the service department kept the old part.hopefully this fixes the problem.this fix came at a cost of $180.00 to me.this cost, i believe, should be born by gm.if the steering rod is left unreplaced, could loss of steering control result for these vehicles over time?i own a 2001 gmc sierra 2500hd, 6 liter, v8.

Shaft on power steering snapped, mechanic says happens a lot with full gm size trucks.

Dt*:the contact stated while making a u turn at 3 mph the power steering and abs failed.this occurred on a normal road during normal braking.the vehicle was slowly driven home.the dealership was notifiedhowever no repairs were made.while making a normal speed u turn the power steering assist failed.therefore, deleting any assistance to the braking system. Nhtsa recall campaigns05v005000 and o5v379000 wereissued, but this vehicle was not included due to vin.

While driving20 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the front.suddenlythe vehicle lost power steering. However, consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that the power steering pump needed to be replaced.

My 2001 gmc sierra pu truck after the second year of ownership began to emit howling sounds from the upper right side of the cab's interior.gradually the noise got worse.today it is an almost constant howling sound as if wind is coming through the windshield.i will return it to the dealership next week for a recheck.it is my understanding that other, similar gmc and chevrolet trucks are doing the same thing.

Backing up at about 2mph hit a pipe sticking out of the ground. The pipe was about 3 ft. High. It hit the rear bumper on the driver's side. The bumper was bent so badly that it had to be replaced for a cost of almost $600.00. I think this bumper should havewithstood this type of accident.

While driving, there was a vibration and the truck began to veer to the left and became uncontrollable, causing consumer to swerve into oncoming traffic, then onto the shoulder, when the vehicle finally stopped consumer discovered that both tires on the drivers side had suffered bead separation, the vehicle was towed to a firestone dealer and after examinging both tires it was determined that the tires were only inflated to 40lbs pressure each, the firestone dealer stated that the tires were not properly inflated to manufacturers specifications as per the door sticker, the under inflation caused the bead separation, there was damage sustained to the vehicle. Right/ rear firestone steel-tex tire, size: lt245/75r16, dot: vn11v1c4800 is starting to show signs of deformation in sidewall, tire is original equipmentand has approximately 7,000 miles on it, deformation is approximately 2 to 3 inches in length.*jg

I own a 2001 gmc sierra, i was driving from one job to the other when a person driving next to me flagged me down saying that i dropped my spare tire.i stopped and looked under my truck, i was missing my tire and the cable that was holding the spare tire was busted.luckily the incident happened after school and speed limits were at 20mph.no one got hurt but if this would of happened while i was driving in a congested high speed road this could of caused a serious accident.the safty of all people are at risk of this happening as i experienced it myself. A 2001 vehicle should not have a part that can bust and drop a tire on the road.i took this report to champion gmc located in corpus christi texas.the man that attended memel did nothing but give me a 200.00 estimate for parts and labor repair.i believe that this part should be under recall before it causes a problem or death.

The contact owns a 2001 gmc sierra.while driving 60 mph, the rear passenger side tire blew out.the tread separated from the sidewall.the tires are the vehicle's original tires.the purchase date and tire information were unknown.the current mileage is 32,960 and failure mileage was 32,910.

Engine uses to much oil, knocks, smokes body- truck bed sides are rippeling because the metal is to thin,& can not handel the weight of a lumber rack, front bumper is dented on both sides but in differant places, was like this at delivery, all the trucks were like this but all of them in differant places.manufacture defect exhaust- loose parts inside of muffler, exhaust rattels from mounting hardware, muffler retains water and leaks at the seams. Paint-rust on the top of cab seatbelt- driver side belt will not recoil, broken seat belt bracket.(this is a safty issue) tires-below 1/32 tread left at 23,000 miles(this is also a safty issue) transmission-makes a cluncking noise at low speeds, takes a long time to shift when running the a/c also makes a howling noise, transmission slips.

Consumer states there is a regular intermittingbump and shake in the interior vehicle. The chassis fell through the seat and steering. Vehicle has a ruff drive. Dealer contacted.

When coastingat approximately 40 mph, mph decreased to about 25 mph, and then suddenly engaged into a fast jump as if the gas pedal was touched, but it wasn't.this has occurred on two different occasions.please fill additional information.

Truck exhibits failure of braking at slow speeds; pedal hard and no brake;hit building at slow speed minimal damge;truck had 38,000 miles. Took to dealer;they said knew what was wrong; changed out left front hub and speed sensor $405.00.

Since we've had this truck, the acelerator sticks and you have to press it hard to get the vehicle to move, then it races for a second and jumps forward or reverse.this happens when it is at a complete stop, when you're starting off.it is dangerous in traffic situations, such as frequent stop & go traffic, and when you're trying to maneuver in tight spaces, such as parking.i'm sure that it also causes excess fuel consumption.

Transmission surges at all speeds. Intermittent. Deal states could not reproduce problem. Transmission has slipped into gear while taking off from a stoplight. Rpm's went up to 2000 before engaging gear.

The throttlestuck.it was not a continuousproblem.after vehicle had been driven and would be parked, consumerrestarted vehicle and had to apply more pressure than usual in order to have accelerator pedal released.when this happened vehicle jumped or would take off on its own.vehicle was under warranty which the dealership/manufacturer would not honor.

Accelerator pedal sticking.vehicle is 2001 gmc seirra.

Gas pedal will continuously get stuck when driving. Consumer has to pull it back out with both feet. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

Accelerator sticks in the idle position causing the truck to jump forward at take off.

After closing driver's side door rear glass shattered for unknown reason. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

Passenger-side window stopped working and made grinding noise when button pushed to roll down.disassembled passenger door to investigate.found electric window motor cable broken with obvious signs of corrosion (rust) at point of failure.also noted substantial corrosion on screws holding motor assembly in place.

Passenger window would not go up when button to raise it was pushed. Window would go up and down when mover by grabbing the glass. Took it to dealer who took apart the door then said the regulator was broken. A wire cable in the mechanism was broken, but the wire by itself was not available. Not covered by warraty, as this was a "wear " item.mileage on truck24000cost $717.00

Driver's side mirror vibrates at idle while passenger side does not. Condition worsens at highway speeds or on bumpy roads, with no noticeable difference in the passenger side mirror.also, defect appears to be the break away joint not being tight enough to hold the mirror stable. The opposing traffic is a distraction because the red tail lights appear to be flashing, often mistaking them for emergency vehicles.*jg

Drivers side mirror vibrates at idle while passenger side doesnot.this condition worsens at highway speed or on bumpy roads, with no noticable difference in the passenger side mirror.the safety issue is that on 2 lane roads all of the taillights of the opposing traffic are flashing to the point of distraction.also, i due to this effect of taillights being red and flashing in the mirror already, whether a driver would notice an emergency vehicle approaching from behind due to there already being flashing red lights in the mirror.the defect appears to be the breakaway joint not being tight enough to hold the mirror in a stable position as when i hold the joint the virbation lessens, and when i hold the glass against the housing the vibration persists.

The wheels malfunction ending up hitting a covert the air bags did not deploy
