I was driving home from work at rush hour approaching train station. Many people were walking along sidewalks and some in the street. I went to use my horn to warn them of my coming and it failed to work. On the weekend i crawled under the truck to replace the horns . I took them off and i tested them. They both worked. I noticed the mounting area for the horn brackets were corroded. I cleaned them up and they worked again. Then after a day or so the hornstopped working again. The horn works sometimes now but most often they don't.

While driving about 35 mph power steering and brakes went out at the same time. Also, horn did not work.

When i press on the brake pedals on a sudden stop on bumpy roads at speeds over 30 mph, the brake pedal does not depress.the brake pedal vibrates and the vehicle does not stop properly.it takes the truck a longer time to stop than normal.this almost casued me to rear end cars on more than one ocassion.i had to take my foot of the brake pedal and reapply pressure to get firm brake pressure.when the brake pedal vibrates, it gives a false sense of abs working but the truck stops slower than if it were the abs.sudden stops on bumpy roads are very dangerous.

The accelerator had stuck, the transmission slipped, the flaps on the fender and the door trim had fallen off, the back window leaked, the heat shield was believed to have caused a vibration in the dash-per service dealer, the coolant light stayed on, the a/c had to be repaired twice, and the rotors vibrated.*scc

Hadtalked to dealership two times complaining of engine knock on start up.both service advisors told me that is a common problem and i don't need to worry about it.i called gmc customer service to get the problem documented an to see what they think of it.they informed me to take it to the dealership and give my service request number (1-64044981) and have them diagnose the problem. The dealership had me pick the vehicle up and they told me the shop foreman listened to my noise along with two other vehicles of the same make, model, and year and all made the same noise.i called gmc back to let them know the problem was not diagnosed and got the voicemail box of the represenitive so i left a message to please call me back. I have not recieved a call back so i called and talked to two other represenitives and they will not help me they just left messages for the original represenative that i talked to. I guess that gmc does not wantto talk to me about my complaint.

Valve tap on cold start lasts approximately one minute.gmc claims it is carbon build up in the combustion chamber and will not damage the engine. This is unsatisfactory.any tapping sound is indicative of lack of lubrication and will prematurely wear the engine or its components particularly after warranty runs out.see service bulletin #01-06-01-028a.or document #1271016 "engine knock on cold start".

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 70mph, the engine failed without warning followed by smoke erupting from the front underhood area with no visible flames.the contact managed to coast the vehicle to the curb in neutral and exit the vehicle.upon initial inspection on the skid plates, there was a rod bearing failure, but oil was still present.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop for further inspection.the mechanic determined there was a hole in the engine block, however the vehicle received regular maintenance and there were no obvious road hazards.

2000 gmc sierra has problems with brake rotors, engine failing to restart, and the passenger cab was not level.*mrshims were installed to make the cab level.the rear rotors were crystallized and flaking off which caused pulsation while braking.the abs sensor failed which resulted in intermittent brake loss.the gas pedal became stuck at times.

The consumer states that there is a tapping noise in the engine.the technician at the dealer stated that when cold started, there is a light tapping noise.(found bulletin #01-06-028 for cold start engine knock)no current fix at the time and should not have an effect on the longevity of any of the engine components, and may be caused by an interaction between carbon that has formed on the piston/the piston motion and cylinder wall.*scc

I own a 2000 gmc sierra.i have the same problem with the fuel gauge system as the 2000 chevrolet siverado.the fuel gauge read erradically then low fuel light comes one even though tank full of fuel.there should be a recall on this defect.was told the problem is with the fuel leveling sensor.

My gas guage on my 2000 gmc sierra pickup is acting eratic. It goes back and forth between full and empty for no apparent reason. This started several months ago. I did a search on google and found that this same problem was being reported to automotive help sites by a whole lot of people. Some say it is the sending unit in the gas tank - some dealerships told them this. The cost to drop the tank and fix the problem is around $800.even if you have not received enough complaints to force a recall on this issue, you can easily see by searching google that this is indeed a major problem. I suspect that not too many people know that they can fill a complaint with the nhtsa.thank you...

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the fuel line strap fractured. The contact repaired the fuel line strap himself to prevent it from hanging. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 96,000. The vin was unavailable.updated 09/07/2011 *ln

When starting up the vehicle it ran roughly, and a smell of fuel was noticeable. Consumer took the vehicle toan independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle and said it was the plenum chamber and gasket that was causing the vehicle to smell like fuel when starting up.

The lower half of the rear gas tank strap has rotted out and dislodged from the upper half of the strap. The front strap also has visible corrosion. A very serious situation. I was very fortunate to find the lower half of the strap, as i was moving firewood on my property. I feel blessed that i found the issue while the vehicle was not moving. I believe if undetected, the release of the gas from the chassis would have likely been catastrophic. I am very concerned for other vehicle owners!

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra. The contact stated the fuel gauge malfunctioned. The contact stated that he was unable to determine how much fuel was in the vehicle. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer or a local mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The failure mileage was 41,000.updated 03/07/12

The fuel level gauge in my 2000 gmc sierra has been erratic and is now consistently reporting the tank is empty every time i fill it up and it will then keep flipping between full and empty for about the first 100 miles after fill up.i cannot trust the gauge any longer to tell me when the tank is getting low either, as it will show 1/8 to 1/4 even when it will take 26 or so gallons of gas.this seems to be a faulty level sensor that is affected when the tank is full, mostly, and i am concerned that the electrical system connecting to the sensor in the tank may be shorting out in the tank near or in the presence of gasoline!i understand this is a common problem with these vehicles and suggest that it should be recalled and fixed by the manufacturer.

While filling up for gasoline the gas gauge would register a half of tank.but the driver filled a full tank at the gasoline pump.this incident has happen twice.the driver has contacted the dealer for appointment to bring it in.please provide additional information.

Dt:the consumer owns a 2000 gmc sierra classic.he had to replace a fuel pump assembly that was housed inside the fuel tank. There was some recalls on this vehicles but not for his model. There were four wires in the fuel tank two of the four wires were melted together inside the fuel tank.

Incorrect fuel gauge readings when at a full tank.

Dear sirs,in january of 2000 i purchased a new gmc sierra pick-up truck from a general motors dealership.in april of 2003 the gas gauge began to act erratically for a few seconds after a fill-up.it would go from full to empty, and then act normal until the next fill-up.the odometer reading was approximately 48,000 miles when this problem first occurred.in september 2003 the gauge would only register full.at this time i had the truck inspected by two independent garages.they stated that they had seen a number of gmc's with the same problem.it seemed that the 1999-2001 models had a defective part.when i took the truck to the dealership in september 2003 i was told that the fuel tank would have to be removed in order to replace the part.i was then told that the cost of this repair would be $650.00, including parts (the part cost was $395.83).i was informed that because the mileage on the truck was approximately 64,000 miles, the warranty did not cover the cost of this repair.i stated that the mileage should not be a factor for a fuel gauge.i did not expect gm to take full responsibility; however, i feel that some consideration should be given toward the cost of this part.i have contacted the gm consumer department however no relief has been offered toward this repair/part.i do not feel that i should be held fully responsible for a defective part.*la

The fuel gauge would intermittently fluctuate while driving, thiscauses a problem for consumernot knowing the proper amount of fuel in the fuel tank. Consumer is afraid of running out of fuel while driving on the freeway. The dealer was notified. Updated 06/16/06.

No event leading up to failure.the fuel gauge quits reading full instead reads completely empty giving no indication of fuel levelnothing has been currently done to fix the problem as it involves removal of pickup bed to replace sensor in fuel pump. 5 other vehicles in same area have same problem.

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated they were traveling 25 mph and the fuel tank failed and began toleak gasoline. The fire department had to come out to dispose of the gasoline. The tank was cut off and secured by the fire department. The vehicle wasdestroyed because the straps holding the tank and the surrounding areas were severely covered withrust. The failure and current mileage was 125,000.

I was drivingalong and felt a dragging sensation and scraping noise.i pulled the truck over, looked underneath expecting to see the muffler dragging.i was somewhat surprised to see the gas tank resting on the street.there was a small amount of gasoline leaking onto the street.i called aaa to come tow the car.they said i needed to call the fire dept., which i did [xxx]soon there were 2 fire trucks and a hazmat vehicle.they proceeded to call the maryland department of the environment, and 2 of their trucks arrived.the fire department cut the remaining strap and removed the tank.the mde pumped the remaining fuel into a metal barrel. In light of ford's recall on 1.1 million pick-up trucks, i thought it important to register this report as it is possible that gmc might be using the same straps to support the gas tanks.i do not have vin # as the vehicle was towed to s & l auto [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

While coming down a hill put foot on brakes, and it felt like pushing on a brick wall.consumer proceeded through a stop sign. Consumer has to press brake down twick before vehicle will stop.the brakes failed twice.the steering column makes a grinding noise when turning. Horn failed.keyless entery failed. Door locks failed. Interior lights failed. The fan in the front end is very loud.the speedometer is inaccurate. The power steering pump shaft broke.

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra. The contact stated that the exterior driver and passenger side door handles would not latch. The exterior door handles were becoming stuck and causing the contact to remain locked inside of the vehicle. He would have to roll the window down and place his arm outside the window to release the door handle and exit the vehicle. The manufacturer informed the contact that there were no recalls for the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who replaced the exterior door handle assembly. The vin was unavailable.the current and failure mileage was mileage was 207,000.

Passenger side door lock would not open with the remote or manual inside or outside door handles @37000 miles had to put key in door lock and hold key to extreme left and pull handle at same time to get passenger out. I think this is a safety issue. It is still broke.

During a rain and then freeze in michigan, the driver side door latch fails to operate properly.by failing to operate, once open it will not latch until it thaws out.it has happened to me twice so far this 2004-2005 winter.gmc customer service has been contacted as well.

Stopping to run an errand on the way home from work i attempted to open the driver door of my 2000 gmc pickup.the door which has a power lock would not open.the electric door lock has apparently failed rendering the door inoperative.after a short panic attack, i had to exit my vehicle from the passenger door.the door could not be unlocked from the outside with a key or from inside the vehicle using the manual door lock slider bar.this is a severe safety hazard and should demand an immediate recall to ensure a failure of the power lock fails safe.as a safety engineer, i believe this could result in a fatality by someone not being able to exit the vehicle.

Consumer states that the parking brake has stopped working after only 18000 miles on the vehicle. Nlm

Dt: the contact states there are two nhtsa recalls campaign#05v379000 and 05v161000 concerning the antilock brakes and the parking brake. This vehicle has the sameproblems as indicated in the recalls, butit is not included in the recalls due to vin. Updated 12/27/2005 -the abs light has been on for about 6 months and there is no abs.the parking brake has not worked since the vehicle was purchased on 8/12/2003.

Vehicle would not pass inspection because of parking brake failure. Talked to several mechanics who could identify the model, year and make of the vehicle as soon as i said parking brake - all stated that it was a very common problem, same with the wheel hub. Also air bag did not deploy when my son hit a deer with the vehicle.

When i went in for oil change at 66,000 miles i was told the parking brakes were worn out. Since i do not use thes they must have been defective.will replace when can make the 100 mile trip to dealer that found problem. Dealer where purchased would not other fix problems when vehicle was under warranty.since i have purchased this vehicle new in march of 2000 the engine block was found to be cracked the transmission was defective and would slip at start almost hit three times before fixed, the driveshaft was bad the differiential was put in at wrong angle the back windows leaked air and water the gas pedal has been worked on twice is starting to stick again reported this toyou in aug 2002 still no recall. Four pices of trim fell off air conditioner switch was replced twice heat sheild was installed wrong causing dash to vibrate.clearly gm is making some very defective products.when the original dealer would not get problems repaired i asked gm for help i had to find a dealer to help me on my own.most of these problems were fixed under extended warranty. Three of them are saty problems the trnsmission took over a year to get results and could have caused a accident any time gm knew of this.i now am getting a knock out of second engine. I will put down todays date because these problems occured over such a long time.

Dt: contact stated parking brakenever worked since he bought the truck. Hehad it repaired at ewing buick gmc in 2004.truck has an automatic transmission and therewas a recall on the parking brake in the manual transmissions. No recall number was available.he felt that the repair work should bedone on the parking brake ofunder the recall although this truck didhave an automatic transmission, the parking brake in his automatic transmission never worked from the time he bought the vehicle new in 2000. He has spoken to gmc. They could not give him a reason as to why it was not covered under the recall. The dealer told the consumer that this was a common problem in both the automatic and manual transmissions.

Parking break failure on 2000 gmc sierra pickup.there is a recall for the same vehicle type with manual transmissions (nhtsa recall #05v161000, gm recall number 05042) however the current recall does not include the vehicles sold with automatic transmissions even though they have the exact same parking brake design and the exact same parts used in the breaking system.my truck will not pass texas state inspection due to the parking break failure.the state inspection considers my truck unsafe.nhtsa needs to make general motors fix this problem since the problem exists regardless of whether it is an automatic or manual transmission.i understand that with manual transmissions there is a greater chance for an injury to occur however, the vehicle state inspection in texas considers my vehicle unsafe shouldn't the nhtsa and gm?

I have a 2000 gmc sierra pickup truck.today i experienced a total failure of the braking system; while coming up to a light on a street with a speed limit of 50 mph, i lost all braking ability and the parking brake was of no use.there was no accident (thank god) but after having the truck towed to a repair shop, a web search showed a recent article describing similar failures.thought i should file a complaint before speaking with gm tomorrow morning.

I have a 2000 gmc sierra pickup with disc brakes on all four wheels. The parking brake is a horseshoe shaped brake shoe that is to grab a brake drum designed into the rear wheel rotor. I have used the parking brake about five times( exaggerated) in the life of my truck. When the brake failed to hold i thought nothing of it, as i rarely used it. Recently on an unrelated repair i had occasion to remove and inspect my rear rotors. The brake shoe for the parking brake repositioned itself and has been rubbing on the brake drum portion of the rotor causing it to wear the lining of the drum . Very little wear occurred to the parking brake shoe. The design of theshoe its position on the drum created a basin wear particles accumulated inside the worn area of the drum creating even faster wear to the surface. After 180000 miles on my vehicle i have the original disc brake pads in relatively good shape and if i hadn't had the other repair to perform i would not have removed the dic brake rotor on the rear wheels to learn that about half of the drum material had been won through on one side and less so on the other side. I was not subject to recall 05042b (nhtsa action number ea04011) and i was not aware of the previous issue with the parking brakes.if i continued to use the vehicle in unadulterated manner my wheel rotor would wear through and the wheel fall off at a time of its own choosing.. I spoke with my local chevrolet dealer and asked about applicable recalls regarding the parking brake on the pickups and he told me that he knew of no such issues.

While applying the brakes, thecable which was attached to the end of the brake pedal broke.the end of the cable broke off which caused the parking brake to be inoperative. *ph

Dt:the contact stated the transmission failed whiledriving.the vehicle would not go into reverse.after getting the vehicle home he had it towed to a transmission shop.they found there was a crack in an internal hub.this caused a loss of oil pressure, and lubrication.they replaced all damaged parts.there have been no problems since.

Consumerwas traveling about 15mph onhighwayand heard a noise when automatic transmissionchanged from first to second gear.also, there was vibration when she turned left to right. Dealership was aware ofproblem.

The transmission slipped multiple times and accelerated very slowly. Dealer notified.

Problem only occures when engine and transmission are completly warmed and transmission is in overdrive mode. If transmission is in drive "3" no problems occur at any engine speed. Dealer states on repair order, "normal condition at this time until an update comes out". Suggestion was made by dealer that this could be caused by tourque converter.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle intermittently fails to shift into third and fourth gears.when the shifter fails the digital gauges fail to illuminate.the vehicle shifts normally after a short period of time.upon inspection the independent repair shop was unable to determine the cause of the failure.

Transmission failed. No reverse.reaction shell gear teeth stripped out.common problem with 4l60e transmissions.only 52000 miles.went out with no warning.

While changing gears consumer heard clunking noise. Dealer replaced transmission, but, problem returned dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.

On 12/13/99 when slowing down to make a left turn, the tourque converter locked up and stalled the truck in middle of traffic while crossing the left lane. With difficulty, truned the wheel back to the right and pull off the road and shifted into park and restarted the truck.luckly there was very little on coming traffic. On 2/11/00 while coming into a rolling right hand turn and going about 15 mph, i started to brake and the tourque converted again locked up and the engine stalled. Again with difficulty i was able to steer into the corner and make the corner. As the truck was free rolling it just started itself and it contiuned on, almost crached into two cars waiting at the stop sign. Ifmy wife was driving there would have been a collision.in october when waiting for a traffic light to change, i accelleratedand truck didn't move. I stepped on the brake shifted to park and then back to drive and it finally went into gear and moved. Have been back to the dealer twice with tourque converter concerns with no solutions. Gm has a transmission problem with there 4l60e transmissions. My 1998 gmc jimmy has been replaced at 19000 miles. Am very worried that this will happen at any time when not ready and an accedent will happen.

Truck drive train makes clunk noise when i first start off from a stop, also in reverse. When i stop at a red light it feels like someone just hit me from behind. It started at about 39000 miles and has been getting progressively worse and now it has worn out the bushing in the tail shaft of the transmission ,wow $32000 dollars for this truck and nothing but problems .i am truly scared of this truck please help.

Driveshaft experiences thumping, the noise can be temporarily corrected when greasing the driveshaft yoke or spline, however the thumping does come back.

The pump driveshaft fractured, causing immediate loss of power steering and power brakes. 2000 gmc sierra front passenger seat belt not working properly. Customer states that the seat belt is hard to pull and does not retract properly.the consumer initially reported the seat belt was making a squeaking noise. The dealer replaced the seat belt, but the new seat belt locked up on passengers restricting their ability to lean forward and was very tight. The dealer replaced the seat belt two more times and the restriction problem was still present.the dealer stated the belt was suppose to work that way. The consumer stated the original belt never worked that way. The consumer stated the last seat belt that was replaced not only restricted movement, but it did not retract smoothly. Once the seat belt was in use, it did not recoil leaving the belt loose and useless.in addition, the arm rest kept falling off and the seat no longer reclined.

Driver's seat belt failed.

Seatbelt unlatches without driver effort- several instancesgm states this is an "out-of pocket" repair.

Both drivers and passenger seatbelts periodically lock for no apparent reason. This pins driver against seatback, making it impossible to lean forward to check mirrors, look over shoulder etc. For lane change. Dealer refuses to address problem.

Front passenger seat belt retractor is locking up while driving. Dealer notified. The driver side window makes noise when rolling down due to regulator assembly failure, also the center console would not open.

Brake line rusted thru causing the truck to lose brakes entirely.this vehicle has never been out of florida, and i am the original owner since new.never driven on salty winter roads or snow.

My 2000 gmc sierra 1500 pickup, which has spent its entire life in virginia, lost its brakes while i was towing a dual-axle trailer and boat. Thanks to god's protection, this happened right as my made my final stop right in front of my house, so i was barely moving. Had this happened just moments earlier, i would have been traveling around 50 mph on a winding country road.i looked under the driver's side door and found the brake line and fluid running from it. While there was surface rust on the lines, i wouldn't say it appeared that a failure was imminent. Clearly, inferior materials were used for the brake line when less corrosive materials should have been used. Gm should acknowledge their poor choice of materials and provide, at the very least, replacement brake line sets. Their current "deeply discounted" set costs more than an aftermarket set.

The brake lines have rotted out and failed in traffic multiple times without notice. Also the leaf spring hangers rotted and broke. The rear bumper is a rusted mess. The undercarriage of the truck looks like something that was washed ashore. Heavy duty rot. The body and cab inside still look new. Something wrong with the steel in this vehicle.

Was driving with 3 of my children to a football practice. Was on mo state hwy 70 doing approx. 60mph.an incident occurred ahead of me which resulted in an immediate slow down. Hit my brakes hard(like all other vehicles around me) and brake pedal went to floor and truck lost at least 90pct of braking power. Almost complete lack of any brakes. It was an honest miracle that me and my children along with any other people that would have been hit at that speed were not killed or badly injured. It was a split second incident and act of miraculous luck that avoided a catastrophe. I did not have time to think and just reacted out of instinct and swerved from middle of three lanes into grass shoulder(which resulted in terrifying attempt at keeping control and not flipping truck over etc. Going from 60plus mph on a tight shoulder in a high traffic major hwy in suburban st louis. A miracle we survived. When on shoulder attempting to keep control with no brakes i did think and engaged emergency brake all the way down with basically zero affect at helping slow down. This was a dangerous and traumatic experience for my children and not soon forgotten! discovered it was a metal brakeline rusted on frame mount underneath driver door that burst causing this. I have owned the truck since 2001 and purchased with 14,000 miles. Looking online for parts to replace(which are expensive, money too tight to afford the lowest quote from repair shop to replace all steel lines of $1000 to $1500)what now pay almost what truck is worth to fix? gm is obviously aware. Why not at least have moral strength enough to put out a bulletin to inform or self inspect?i am at a loss expressing myself at gm's lack of character. I will never own as will my children another gm vehicle. Why buy american? should have gone with a japanese company. Never would have come to this with toyota or honda. Sad!

Driving truck in town applied brakes at a stoplight brake pedal went straight to the floor. No brakes at all had to go thru the red light and around 3 cars in front of me, rubbed the curb to get the truck to stop. Rust and corrosion on the steel rear brake lines caused line failure.

My pickup truck was in motion when driving on a city street i had to slow down.the brake-petal went almost completely to the floor.i almost hit the vehicle in front of me while trying to stop.after pulling to the side of street i checked under the truck and discovered that the rear metal brake line adjacent to the truck frame had rusted and burst.

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the abs and hydraulic brakes failed without warning. The contact was able to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis but the dealer was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified and the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Brake line rusted out.

While towing my boat i experienced brake failure.the pedal went to the floor with no pressure.brake warning light did not come on.we were on a dirt road with no traffic and were able to stop without incident.after inspecting the brake lines a leak was found in one of the lines under the drivers side door before the line enters the brake modulator. All the lines are rusty and need to be replaced.i contacted the gmc dealer and although they have seen the problem before they are unaware of any safety problems with the brakes and that gm has no fix for the problem.they estimate the cost to replace the brake lines to be about $1200.

The first incident i was pulling out of a parking spot and noticed my brakes were gone.the pedal went all the way down to the floor.got out of the vehicle and there was brake fluid leaking from underneath the truck.took it to the mechanic and was told thebrake line was rusted.had it repaired and since then we have had 4 additional incidents.

As i was approaching a stop sign at 30 mph, i went to apply the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor board.i pumped the brakes a couple times to regain pedal pressure with no luck.i was lucky that no other cars were at the intersection or else there would have been an accident for sure.i made a quick right hand turn and used emergency brake to stop.there was a puddle of brake fluid coming from the abs module underneath the drivers side door.upon further inspection, the brake line ruptured due to rust and corrosion.i am relieved that no one was at the intersection and that i did not have my wife and 3 kids in the vehicle at the time the brakes went out.i have owned many vehicles and never had a single vehicle where metal brake lines have rusted out.i have owned this truck for 10 years and now question gm and their quality and integrity.at this point, i probably won't buy another gm truck because they rust out in less than 10 years and my family's life was at stake for a design/quality flaw.i now have to spend $1000+ dollars to replace all brake lines on my truck when gm could have installed stainless steel brake lines in the first place.disappointed gmc truck owner.

Repeated brake failures due to corroded brake lines.

Pulled on to road while towing boat and could not stop.brake peddle to floor.used emergency brake to stop.replaced some lines and problem re-occurred.

I was going to go to the store with my truck and stepped on the brake pedal and it went to the floor. I looked under the door and the brake fluid was running onto the driveway and the brake line was all rusty and failed. I was going to be driving on the highway at 65 mph and con only imagine what would have happened.

Truck was parked. Went to put it into drive and stepped on the brake pedal. The pedal went to the floor. The steel brake line back by the driver rear wheel ruptured. On closer inspection, i will have to replace all brake lines as they are so rusty and corroded. It is a safety issue. I was fortunate that i nor my wife was traveling on the road when this happened.

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra. While driving approximately 15 mph, the brakes were engaged to make a turn and the brake pedal extended to the floorboard abnormally. The contact was able to stop the vehicle after applying the brake pedal repeatedly. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who advised the contact that the front brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not beennotified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.....updated 08-24-12 the consumer stated the rear brake lines were corroded as well. On 08/10/2012 the vehicle's brake lines broke again. Updated 09/04/2012

While driving west on central avenue in pedal, i applied the brake pedal to slow the vehicle to make a right turn onto stevens street. I felt no resistance and looked down to see if i had missed the brake pedal somehow, but it had pushed with no resistance to the floor. Pumping the brakes repeatedly, i was able to obtain a small amount of braking and made the turn on stevens. Stopping at deep south cycles, i told the mechanic what had occurred and he noticed the rear wheels were very hot, indicating rear brake lockup. Indeed, at that time they were still locked up. We checked the emergency brake to see if it was applied and it wasn't. The brake fluid level was the proper level, also. After the brakes had cooled down i drove the truck a short distance to a repair shop on central avenue where they replaced the rear brake calipers and pads. They stated that the rear rotors had turned blue from the heat, and added that they "had seen a lot of failures of gmc brake calipers."

After putting the vehicle into reverse i went to stop and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor indicating a loss in brake fluid pressure. I looked under the truck to investigate the matter and found brake fluid everywhere and a highly corroded brake line just to the rear of the abs hydraulic unit. It was evident that was the spot of the line failure due to the high amount of brake fluid that had been shot out of the line above it. Upon inspection i have found that the other brake lines are also highly corroded.

While backing my truck up to attach a trailer, i pressed on the brake pedal and it went to the floor.i had absolutely no braking ability.my truck ran into the trailer, causing minor damage.upon inspection, it is evident that there is a failure of the brake line that runs to the driver's side rear caliper.a significant amount of brake fluid can be seen and smelled in this area.i am not able to drive the truck.it will need to be towed to a repair shop for what i assume will be expensive repairs.

The brakes in my gmc pickup truck failed due to severely rusted steel brake lines.two lines burst , one after the other , as i pumped the brake pedal to stop the truck. An inspection revealed extensive and premature rust throughout the brake line system, requiring replacement of all of the brake lines.

Brake lines rusted thru and had complete brake lost. The rusted lines are at the anti-lock part that controls the anti-lock brakes next to theframe. I have had this truck sinceit was newand keep it in great shape.

Brakes failed unexpectedly. The pedal went all the way to the floor and barely slowed down the truck at all. This was due to a brake line that rusted through. The repair was $765. Had i been in an area with higher traffic there would have been an accident.

Brake lines rusted out.

Travelling to work one morning on a busy, well traveled road i was approaching a traffic light. I was driving approximately 40 mph. There was a few cars ahead of me and we all had to stop for the red light. As i applied the brake and started to slow down suddenly the brake pedal when to the floor and i realized i had lost the brakes. Realizing that i was going to rear end the cars in front of me i was forced to shift to 1st gear on the automatic transmission and swerve to the right off the side of the road. I came close to hitting some huge trees and running into a ditch. After my nerves settled down i safely pulled out of the embankment and slowly drove the truck to a safe opening very close by. I started troubleshooting my brakes and found a leak under the truck behind the front drivers side tire. I looked closer and found that one of my brake lines had burst open. Looking at the brake lines revealed they were all rusted badly. I had my truck towed home. As we were driving home the tow truck driver told me that these trucks have a strong history of rust problems of the brake lines and other areas. After unloading the truck i went online and started reading about the rust problems on these vehicles. I was shocked at the amount of people having the same problems. I cannot understand why there has not been a recall on an issue so important as brake lines rusting out. I am wondering if someone has to get killed before something is done about it. I encourage anyone who owns a 1999-2000 gmc or chevy pick up truck to check your brake lines and if they are rusting (which almost all are) to file a complaint with the nhtsa.dot.gov/vehiclecomplaint.

While driving in town i noticed my brake pedal was feeling soft, the next time i depressed the pedal, it went all the way to the floor and the vehicle would not stop at all. I coasted into a parking lot and used the emergency brake to complete the stop. I looked under the vehicle by the drivers side door and witnessed the fluid dripping out of the brake lines. The car was towed to a local mechanic, where he discovered all four lines had failed at a point where all the lines were held together by a mounting bracket, just under the driver's side, and mounted to the frame. Had i been at higher speeds and had to make a quick stop the outcome would have been much worse.

I got into my gmc applied the brakes before starting the truck and all of a sudden the brakes went to the floor. I got out and discovered fluid dripping from under the truck, on the drivers side, about in line with the back of the drivers seat.

While pulling a small enclosed trailer and going down a hill i experienced a complete brake failure. I had absolutely nothing for brakes. I ended up going through a redlight and missed any vehicles in the intersection, started to downshift to slow my speed. Crossed over an intersection for a bike trail with noone in the way. Then had to make a hard right turn to go under a train tressel narrowly missing an on coming car.when i finally got the vehicle stopped i had dropped vertically 80 + feet in the matter of less than a half mile.on the ground was a puddle of brake fluid fromthecorroded brake lines that had burst rendering my truck in to an unstoppable downhill bobsled.the weather conditions we sunny and 80 degrees.luckily noone was in my way and i was able to miss any objects and steer the truck to a safe spot. I am also thankful that neither of my kids were in the truck with me at the time of this incident.i feel thatthere should be some accountability in to what a manufacture uses for vital safety items in a vehicle. Brakes lines should be a part that should outlast the usefulness of the vehicle . Not something that should be a possible failure point anygiven time. This is a matter of public safety how many more people have to die or get injured due to a cost savings of using regular steel lines on the one part that makes you vehicle stop?i have heard of plenty of people with multiple vehicle types who have hadtheir brake lines fail. This is just unacceptable thank you for anything that you may try to do on this issue .

Brake line leak from rust hole in brake line below drivers side door. Almost hit the vehicle ahead of me. I have gm vehicles that are much older than this one and never had this happen before. 1977 chevy, etc. I feel a recall is in order, i have read on the internet about other people having the same problem that didn't end as well i did.

Problems with abs brakes.brakes do not respond in a normal manner for no apparent reason.occurs at all speeds and on dry roads.seem's like the abs.activates for no reason but does not stop vehicle.problem is worse on bumpy road's.have had to avoid collision's on many occasions!

My brakes started to fail--stopping before entering traffic, stopping at red lights, pulling into parking spaces.at first it seemed that maybe it was slippery and the brakes were pulsing or something.the last time when i knew i was in trouble was when i pulled into a parking spot and the brakes did not work at all.

Anti-lock brake system malfunction

Brakes fail below 5-8 mph.

Anti-lock brakes chatter and fail to stop on my 2000 gmc sierra pickup truck atanything under 10mph.this started last october. The dealership quoted $480 to correct. Saved a bunch of money by unplugging the fuse for the abs sytem.stops fine now. I almost hit the back of my garage wall and stopped cars in front.

Antilock brakes engage at low speed, like when coming up to a stop sign, or when pulling up to a drive thru window.

Failure of the abs system on my 2000 gmc sierra pickup. Abs would acctivate at slow speeds and would make stopping truck very hard.had to de activate abs system so truch was useable.dealer stated that problem was due to region of country that the truck was used in and was not their problem!

Abs brake system is causing truck to feel like it's not going to stop.i have it at the dealership now and they tell me both sensors have to be replaced.i only have approx. 22,000 miles on the truck.it's a 2000 sierra

Vehicle: 2000 gmc sierra, ext. Cab, 4wd, less than 19000 miles.vehicle exibited intermittant low-speed antilock brake activation.although there were many "close calls" especially when the antilock motor would activate upon initial brake application (very low pressure in hydraulic lines), no damage was caused to the vehicle or other property.a potential dangerous situation exists with these heavy vehicles.low output from right front abs sensor was diagnosed.i replaced entire hub and sensor assembly.the symptom is now gone.the old part is still in my posession for inspection.

I have a 2000 gmc sierra extended cab 4x4 z71.i believe i have the same problem with my abs sensor as has been reported by others.i have not had an accident but i have had many close calls.i pulled the fuse for my abs and now i do not have the problem, but am afraid my brakes will lock up in foul weather.

Antilock brake problems on my 2000 gmc sierra pickup. Hard to stop vehicle at at low speeds [under ten miles per hour.]

2000 gmc sierra brake line corrosion issue. Ruptured steel line below the drivers door.1).after a hard stop due to other motorist pulling out in front of me the brakes were not as firm as before.2). The next morningi found an oil spot on driveway and brake reservoir half empty. Investigated and found heavily corroded brake lines in a group of four below drivers door against outside of frame. One line leaking fluid badly.3). I went to general motors to purchase new brake lines and was told that the come in bulk rolls only. They have to be bent to shape and flared to be installed.this seems like a very labor intensive repair and would be very costly. I am weighing my options.

Multiple brake line failure, and fuel line failure due to to rotted lines along drivers side frame rail. Due to poor quality factory installed components. Three separate incidents, 2 with brake lines , 1 with fuel lines.approx. Out of pocket expense so far , (and not completed yet), is over $1,500.00for purchased and installed replacement parts.

I own a 2000 gmc sierra crew cab short box 4 by 4. I was driving down the road and heard a grinding sound, so i thought to limp it home. Bad idea, i was the two bolts that hold your caliper on, so that is your whole brake system, well it made my wheel lock up and caused me to loose control and hit the curb where i bent my rim and popped my tire, so i replaced the two bolts on driver back side and checked the passenger back side and those two bolts where loose. Very scary. So i tighten them both and like i said replaced the other two on the driver side. When i seen the way it was set up i was shocked because it was not a good idea and never seen calipers bolted like that, this happened three months ago well today i was driven and heard the same noise again and before i could stop all the way my tire locked up again but this time i was in control and stopped ok. I am freaking out because i have a five year old special needs daughter and don't want her to be in my truck if it decides to lock up and flip.so i went to the same auto shop and had it replaced again. Like i said i seen a lot of brake systems and this way they have it is not same and i imagine has caused deaths, if not yet it will, it about made me roll and screwed up my rims and new tires, i don't know if i should sell it because i do not have money to get them all replaced. So im going to see if there is a recall and if not there needs to be. My mom have a 2004silverado chevy and i owned a 2002 before and both trucks brake system are different. I want to know why they are like this and why they change a good thing. I hope this was helpful. So if you hear grinding in tires make sure you stop and get it towed.

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra. The contact stated while braking from speeds of 10 mph, the brakes would not engage. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle and proceeded to crash into a nearby ditch. The contact was not injured and the vehicle sustained minor damage. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop for repairs. Neither the dealer nor the manufacture was contacted. The failure and current mileages were 105,000

While driving approximately 15 mph, the driver applied the brakes to stop but they failed to work properly. The pedal went to the floor which caused the vehicle to experience extended stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to the dealership but the cause has yet to be determined. *nlm the problem was due to corrosion on the electronic sensor.this gave a signal to the brake control circuit, that the wheels were stopped at zero rotation and the control circuit then released the brake(s) on the vehicle . *sc

While applying the brakes, the brake pedal went to the floor.the vehicle braking power was diminished and the braking distance was substantially increased. Had another vehicle or structure been in front of my truck there would have an accident with airbag deployment and injuries. A visual inspection of the braking system by this writer revealed a ruptured brake line.the area of the rupture as well as the balance of the suspect brake line was in poor condition due to corrosion.the remainingbrake lines were found in a similar corroded condition.the corroded condition was found on the entire length of the brake lines up to within 6" of the master cylinder. The corrosion was also in areas including what this writer would consider "protected areas".

I experienced sudden brake failure in my driveway. There was no warning light, just the brake pedal going to the floor. My mechanic looked at the failed line and said all my lines and abs unit were corroded and needed to be replaced. He also found my right rear spring hanger was rusted off and the spring was just resting on the body. The rear wheel brake backers plates are rusted off also, and the entire frame is very corroded. This is a huge repair bill that may exceed the value of the truck. This is not normal corrosion. I have lived in nh 55 yrs and have never had a vehicle rot like this. I have a 2000 volvo v70 with 147,000 miles on it with no issues. Obviously gm cheapened this truck up or bought defective parts. I have found hundreds of accounts on the internet identical to mine. This vehicle needs to be recalled before people are killed. I am thankful i was in my driveway and not highway or city driving at the time of the failure. Do the right thing and hold gm responsible. There would be no gm without our tax dollars and they need to make this right. Thank you

Nhtsa should be opening investagations concerning the brake line corrosion incidents. We just purchased this truck less than a year ago, and brake failure caused us to have this in the shop for over a month and still have no truck yet. There are enough complaints on the internet for the nhtsa to have a recall before someone gets killed due to this problem. This truck only cost us 6000.00. Repairs will probally be half that price.

Consumer felt that the brakes weretoo spongy, andwhen depressing themthey went to the floor. As a result, brakes failed to stop vehicle immediately, causing extended stopping distance. Consumer almost ran over a pedestrian because of this brake failure.dealership serviced the vehicle but found no failure.

Why is it that four people i know who own gmc vehicles all have had to disconnect their abs systems by pulling the fuse?the wheel sensors have become defective and are very expensive to repair or replace.isn't the abs system supposed to be a safety feature?i think something must be wrong withthe set-up or design.gm should have to recall them.

On 9 june 2011, i was towing my 8,000 lb camper back from the dealer when i pushed on the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor, i used my camper brakes to stop the truck and find out what was wrong.i had to travel about 30 miles without brakes pulling my camper using only the camper brakes with the brake controller inside the truck.once i arrived home i found a line of fluid on the ground, i opened the hood and found no brake fluid in the reservoir.i refilled the reservoir and had my wife push the brake pedal so i could find the leak.the brake line under the drivers door going to the front right tire was leaking.this happened about two years ago with the left rear brake line, i at that time was also pulling my camper.thank god there was not an accident involved in both, i consider myself a very good driver and a safe driver.all my brake lines need replaced on my 2000 gmc sierra truck.i have never seen brake lines rust and corrode like this, this is not good for gm.i take good care of my vehicles and this is something that will cost me alot of money to replace these lines.you look at my truck and can see that i take care of it, it does not look like it is a 2000 from the outside, but look at it from underneath and it looks to be 100 years old. I still have the part of the line that i replaced this past week, but the line i had to replace 2 years ago i do not have.

Attempting to stop for a school bus, as i pressed on the brake pedal it went to the floor and the truck did not come to a complete stop. After pulling over, it was discovered that the brake line was leaking fluid on the ground. Upon further inspection, noticed the brake lines are corroded. Be it know that the frame and body parts on this truck are also rusted as to not pass state inspection. The truck is just over 10 years old and unsafe to drive due to multiple manufacture defects.

My front brake line corroded and ruptured and started leaking fluid. I had no brakes and had to towed for repair.

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra.while driving less than 55 mph, the contact slammed on the brakes to avoid rear ending the preceding vehicle; however, there were no brakes.the brake pedal extended to the floorboard and there was no resistance.the contact was able to avoid crashing into the preceding vehicle.the vehicle was towed to the nearest dealer and is awaiting repairs. The failure and current mileages were 102,400.updated 1/8/09 updated 01/14/09.

Brake line to the front passenger wheel blew apart causing the brake fluid to leak out, and dramatically decreased the stopping ability of the vehicle. Had this line replaced by a local repair shop, and was notified by personnel that all of the lines were in bad condition, and needed to be replaced soon.

The frame on the truck is cracked several inches in a couple ofplaces and rotted. It is very thin and i was told there was nothing solid to weld to and repair it. They said i would have to have the frame replaced. The truck has just turned 100000 miles. I have had it for six years and take excellent care of it. It runs great. The body is in excellent shape, there is one small hole in the driver side rocker panel i was going to repair in the near future ( i do not know if i will now bother). Other than that the body is near perfect. There is no rot in the floors or truck bed. The repair shop could not believe how bad the frame is when the truck looks so great. I have found a number of complaints on the internet similar to this, maybe if enough people speak up something will get done. Also, the anti lock brakes have not worked for some time now. I was told they get rust in the assembly and do not work right. I have also had several brake lines break and need to be replaced.i realize that brake lines do rust over time and do need to be replaced (they should be made from stainless steel from the factory) but the anti locks should work and a frame should not rot and crack as it has.

Complete hydraulic brake failure without warning. Check engine light only came on after the vehicle was stopped with the emergency brake. The dealer said that the front brake had stopped working sometime ago, only the rear brake had been working. The dealer "replaced rear pads and rotors and parking brake shoes, found four busted brake lines, replace all front brake lines, master cylinder to abs module (2) and from module to front brakes(2)."

Several brake lines have rusted through, this caused loss of brake fluid and loss of any braking. This has caused me to be without a truck. Do to this defect gmc has caused a very dangerous vehicle to be on the road. This will now cost me two thousand dollars to make my truck safe to drive. Gmc needs to be held responsible for this poor material in brake line material. Please correct this defect before lives are lost.

On or about 18 oct 2009 as i was turning into my driveway as i appliedthe brakes on my 2000 gme 1/2 ton truck it failed to stop as normal. I almost hit my travel trailer. The brakes made an unusual noise that sounded as if it came from around the brake booster. I had it replaced, this did not eliminate the problem. This vehicle was not driven again until around 15 jan 2010 this braking problem occurredagain. After taking the vehicle to a chevrolet dealer and talking with a service mgr. With some 33 years experience,he recognized the problem. He explained that the anti-lock brake system was activating resulting in increased stopping distances during low speed brake applications. He removed the wheel speed sensors and cleaned the wheel speed sensors mounting surface and applied a rust inhibitor and reinstalled the wheel sensors at a cost to me of $252.00 i believe gmc should bear this cost as there is a recall on this problem. Recall id# 43621 dated aug.29. 2005this recall did not cover va.,but the abs brake problem does not know that it is in va..gmc should recall all vehicles with this abs system regardless which state the vehicle is in.

Rusty, corroded brake lines has caused two brake failures.

Poor braking performance, complete deterioration of braking surface of rotors front and rear leading to premature failure of braking system. Replacement of all four rotors and pad sets front and rear. Also unwanted antilock activation at low speeds due to sensor or abs component failure or mis-programmed abs module not diagnosed at this time.

Backing vehicle out of driveway, applied brake and pedal dropped to floorboard with loss of braking ability. Found all brake lines severely rusted, with a rupture in the line from the abs module to the rear of the vehicle. All brake lines will need to be replaced.

Corroded hydraulicbrake line resulted in substantially reduced braking. This failure occurred during a stop which required higher pedal pressure than typical application, causing the corroded line to burst.

Brake failure- severely rusted and corroded brake lines.had to have every brake line changed.this is the second time this has happened to this vehicle; the first time in 2005 with 70,000 miles and the second time was on 10/16/11 with 85,000 miles.brake lines broke and all fluid came out, no brakes at all had to tow vehicle to garage.this last repair cost me $1200.00.my truck is used for personal use, normal operation.

While driving and applying brakes vehicle produces a loud noise, then, pedal goes to the floor.extended stopping distance is necessary for brakes to perform. Dealer notified.

2000 gmc sierra experienced brake failure. *mr the problem occurred as the consumer entered a parking space.the consumer firmly held his foot on the brake pedal and tapped the vehicle in front of him.the service department replaced the pads and rotors.the brake were intermittent.rust were removed from the sensors.the left front sensor dropped out and was replaced. *sc

While positioning my gmc sierra pickup to backup my utility trailer the brakes completely failed.the brake pedal fell completely to the floor with no stopping capability.brake fluid was found squirting out of a burst open metal brake line located on a frame member under the area of the radiator. I traced the line from the front right wheel to the brake control module located under the drivers seat. The location of the leak was in a straight section of the line with no clamps in the vicinity. All the brake lines appear to be completely rusted.the truck is now obviously undrivable. I had just finished a 20 mile road trip and arrived home when the brakes failed. I was always under the impression that the brake system was completely separated, front from the rear. I don't understand how one burst front brake line can cause complete brake failure. I am looking for direction.

Original equipment with firestone, wilderess at, p26575r16.while driving 5 mph braking system did not stop vehicle, may have been due to tires.tread design did not give off traction which may have causedextended stopping distance and crash.please provide further information.

When applying brakes vehicle shakes, and braking distance is not what it should be.

I own a 2000 gmc sierra truck that has become hazardous to drive due to repeated antilock brake problems.at slow speeds the antilocks will engage and remained engaged, preventing the truck from coming to a complete stop. The matter has been getting progressively worse over the last year. On several occasions i've come extremely close to sustaining substantive vehicle and property damage. As such, the truck is virtually undriveable for safety reasons.

Dt:the contactreceived nhtsa recall 05v379000for absbrake system.the recall repairs were performed, but the contactbelieved the dealer only partially repaired the vehicle.the abs light was still illuminating on the dash.the dealer said they performed the repair that was indicated on the recall notice.the dealer said they would have to inspect the vehicle to determine the cause of the problem.

2000 gmc sierra with defective abs system. Consumer stated that he took his vehicle in for a second time to repair the abs system. He stated in 2005 he had to get it repaired due to premature activation.the consumer requested that the recall be extended to cover recurrences of the same problems now and in the future.

Abs light went on during normal operation.abs pump needed to be replaced.within 3 months, abs were engaging at very low speeds during stopping, causing many near-accidents.abs module replaced by dealer.problem persisted, dealer replaced wheel speed sensor.

Whenbrakes are applied onuneven surface the response is not normal.brakes will grab/release, and sometimes begin to pick up speed.dealer has been contacted.

Regards gm recall on brake sensor corrosion. Dealer (jim causley pontiac-gmc mt. Clemens, mi) claims gm is wrong about repair taking 1 hour. Dealer claims repair takes minimum of 4 hours. Who is lying? is dealer giving 4 hour estimate to discourage repair? is gm not reimbursing dealer enough to encourage dealer to do repair?

Problems with my anti-lock brakes-vehicle will not stop at only 1/2 mph.this has happened numerous times and has caused me 1 accident, plus a 50% increase in my insurance-gmc says my vin. Number is not included in any recalls in the year 2000. Why ,i would like to know. *nlm

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra.when the brakes are applied, the abs activates and reduces the vehicle's stopping distance.the manufacturer stated that there was nothing they could do because her vin is not included in recall # 00v055000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock).the current and failure mileages were 85,000.

Dt:the caller saidabs kicked in at low speeds. Shehad two close calls.the caller had the problem fixed about two years ago, but problem recurred.there wasnhtsa recall 05v379000 on abs brakes in other states, but not in caller'sstate.dealer and manufacturer said her state wasnotincluded in the recall.

While applying brakes as normal to approach a stop and driving over bump brakes will go to floor and fail for 2-3 seconds, and then evenutally stop about 3 car lenths later. Dealer cannot determine cause.2. First start of day , backing out and applying brakesbrakes will grab hard , this will occur about 3-4 times before brakes will work normally. The dealer stated that the brakes were normal, but the brakes were found going to the floor upon test driving.

When moving at low speed and when turning left abs system vibrated, and consumer could not stop vehicle. It happened on dry pavement. Dealer replaced abs sisnsors. Old parts are available for review.

Anti-lock brakes activate at low speeds

While coming down a hill put foot on brakes, and it felt like pushing on a brick wall.consumer proceeded through a stop sign. Consumer has to press brake down twick before vehicle will stop.the brakes failed twice.the steering column makes a grinding noise when turning. Horn failed.keyless entery failed. Door locks failed. Interior lights failed. The fan in the front end is very loud.the speedometer is inaccurate. The power steering pump shaft broke.

Dt: the contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra pickup truck.when applying brake pressure at low speeds the brakes did not work.this was only at low speeds.there were no other problems with the brakes.the vehicle has not been to a dealer.a recall was issued, but it did not include this vehicle. Itonly covered the salt belt states.this truck was in a southern state.no repairs or corrections were done.

Antilock brakes engage at improper times at low speeds during braking. Effect is to limit braking effectiveness at low speeds. Nearly hit other vehicles and objects. Failure is intermittent but increasing in frequency. Considering disabling the antilock system.

I have a 2000 gmc serria truck. I have also incounter the abs fault when coming to a stop. The worst part is when parking in a parking lot with cars in front of you. The truck has marked decrease in stopping. I have also incountered where the pedal gets rock hard.i don't get a light on the dash or show codes.i have contacted the dealer and i was told that it could cost over $500.00 to repair. I do not have that kind of money right know. I have been only driving my 3.5 miles to work and back. We use my wifes car to go any where else.

When trying to stop vehicle abs system engages ,causing the vehicle to experience extended stopping distances.

Consumer complained about a brake problem.brakes failed while driving at a slow speed. However, when vehicle was at an accelerated speed brakes operated normally.*mr

While driving and with no warning brakes went out, causing brake pedal to go to the floor, andvehicle experienced extended stopping distance, resulting inan accident. Dealer notified.

When brake pedal was applied it went to the floor. The anti-skid brakes were heard engaging, but brakes did not respond. Consumer had to release the brakes, and apply the pedal again to stop.dealer couldn't find the problem. *ml

Brake failure when applying brakes at slow speed over irregular( bumpy) surface. The abs activates, the brake pedal goes almost to the floor and the vehicle does not stop within a safe distance.the vehicle was returned to the dealer and they cleaned the mounting surface for the abs sensors. This was after two failures. The dealer wanted to charge me until i explained this is a design safety flaw and they agreed to collect from general motors. The brakes have failed in this same manner two (2) more times exactly as described above.

2000 gmc sierra truck had a recall in 2006 for severe corrosion areas. Consumer states that the recall was performed but two years later have the same problem and coverage was denied. *njrecall # 05v379000.

Brakes malfuction;when applyingbrakesthey do not stop vehicle properly, causingextended stopping distance. Also, front bearings/ universal joint, andrear leaf spring assembly had to be replaced.dealer / manufacturernotified .feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Dt: contact states the brakes are failing below 5 mph when the abs tries to engage, the pedal goes to the floor, but the vehicle will not come to a complete stop.the service dealer did not inform the contact what specifically was wrong with the abs.

When bump is encountered while stopping brake pedal becomes rigid and vehicle picks up speed. At this point an emergency or panic stop would be impossible.

Dt: the contacthad recall 05v37900 repair work done onthe anti lock brakes.approximately one month later, while applying the brakes,he heard a loud grinding noise.the consumer was only going 8-10 mph and the consumer traveled 200-300 feetbefore he was able to come to a stop.he took the vehicle to the dealership, and they stated the wheel bearings needed to be replaced.updated 01/11/06.

While applying the brakes brake pedal becomes very hard, and there are no brakes at all.

Dt*: the contact stated while approaching a stop driving 3 to 5 mph, the abs activated.the fuse was taken out to deactivate the abs.there is a nhtsa recall, #05v379000 regarding the antilock brake sensor.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.there have been no repairs made to the vehicle.

The consumer stated the abs failed under 15 mph. When pulling away from a stop sign or backing out of driveway the consumer felt a bit of shutter and also experienced an increased braking distance. The consumer stated it happened frequently as the sensor became worse. Consumer stated that abs sensor had already been replaced previously. Consumer traded vehicle in for a new car and stated it's somebody else's worry now.*sb

Intermittently whenbrakes are applied at various speedspedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.dealer has inspectedvehicle on two occasions, and could not duplicate the problem. Please provide additional information.

Dt: the contact stated the brakes ongmc pickup at 21,000 milesfailed, and had the rotors and pads replaced on 7-30-04.the brakes were not stopping vehicleat low speeds of 10 miles or less. On 8-26-05 he had the rust cleaned off because he was having trouble with the brakes again at 23,890 miles. The dealer told him there was a recall on the same problem in canada.

2 separate occasions for anti-lock brake failure on gmc 2000 sierra 1500 for corrosion,7/1/2004 and 10/6/04. Replaced hubs. Vin 2gtek19t8y127

Dt: the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign05v379000 concerning anti lock brakes. This vehicle is experiencing the same problemsas indicated in the recall, butit is not included in the recall due to vin. The contact plans to repair the vehicle at his own expense.

Vehicle has been recalled under recall 10178.consumer has contacted local dealership, butdealership refused to performrecall repairs. Dealership is buzz post gmcin arlington, texas.

Pulling 5th wheel camper along interstate tried to stop at toll booth.brakes fine until about 10mph when pedal went to floor and vehicle wasn,t stopping.trailer brakes stopped truck.dealer said rust on sensors.rotors and pads replaced at 48,000 miles due to rotors rotting away.pads were damaged by rotors.

Brake system fails to stop vehicle when braking in normal manner (non-panic stop) at slow speeds on rough surface or when encountering "braking bumps" on asphalt roads. Brake pedal shudders briefly indicating abs is engaging, then brake pedal becomes soft and depresses fully with complete loss of stopping power until brakes are released and reappplied. Condition is both disconcerting and dangerous particularly on downhills - on numerous occasions accidents have been narrowly avoided or have been forced to drive vehicle off the road surface to avoid hitting others. Problem has been reported to dealer on multiple occasions, response is always that this is a "normal condition" (complete brake failure??). This problem happens routinely when driving this vehicle - total number of incidences would easily exceed 100 during the time i have owned this vehcile (once or twice a week for over a year).

Left rear brakes locked up followed by complete brake failure.

The contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra truck. The contact stated that at relatively low speeds it is difficult to apply pressure to the brake pedal.this can cause increased stopping distances, which could result in a crash. He notified the manufacturer in reference to recall #05v379000, service brakes, hydraulic: anti lock. A representative stated that sincehis vin was excluded, he was ineligible for a free remedy. No repairs have been made. The failure mileage was 108,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.updated 10/13/09.

At low speeds abs brakes grab and don'tstopvehicle when brakes are applied. Contacted dealer. All four disc brakes are flaking apart.

Vehicle: 2000 gmc sierraabs activates everyday at least once when coming to a stop at low speed such as a stop sign, parking space etc.this has happened for the last 6 months. Pavement is dry. I must quickly release the brake pedal and push it again firmly to stop. I've bumped another car and my garage because of this. A recall is out for this, gm recall # 05068, nhtsa # 05v37900 but my state, wisconsin, is not included. We use massive amounts of salt here. Do i have to run someone over first? i want this fixed.

The vehicles abs system failed.nlm

Anti-lock brakes will lose power momentarily when striking potholes in the road.dealership states that's normal operation.owner had to let his foot off the brakes and depress pedal again, immediately, to stop truck.please describe.

While driving 65 mph consumer applied the brakes andvehicle vibrated uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle.however, mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

When pulling off road onto dirt, gravel, or grass at any speed above about 10mph, the brakes become unresponsive, vibrate, fade, fail to slow vehicle, and pedal pressure becomes excessive and seems to lock up. I believe there is a problem with the anti-lock system. Very scary! should this system engage under these circumstances. It is not, i repeat not, a panic stop situation, just normal "pulling off the road to stop" situations.

While driving down a dirt hill at 3 mph applied brakes, and the vehicle free wheeled downa hill at 40 mphdue to the abs system failure. Also, frame is bent.

When driving 10 mph consumer turned the steering wheel towards the right and it locked up. The brakes were also difficult to depress. The driver was able to control the vehicle. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership for inspection. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where they determined that the shaft in the power steering pump broke.the dealer also indicated that there were metal pieces in the abs fluid which probably caused the system to fail.

About three years ago i took my 2000 sierra truck to my gmc dealer after experiencing a few low speed abs activations and brake failures causing me to drift into oncoming traffic. Since tandom log trucks are frequent travelers on our local roads, i wanted to resolve the problem right away. My gmc service manager informed me that the only way to correct the problem was to replace the front hub assemblies containing the wheel speed sensors at a cost of $500 each for parts only. I decided against that idea and opted to remove the abs fuse under the dash board. I kept inquiring at the dealer about any gm sponsored repairs and finally read about the august 29, 2005 recall notice which involved cleaning, sanding, and lubricating the wheel speed sensors. The recall service work was done on 10/13/05, according to service bullitin #05068, but my truck continued to drift into traffic as before. This time i removed the abs fuse from under the hood so i could finally use the cruise control again. The service manager has since told me that there is no authorized follow up procedure other than to replace the hub assemblies or speed sensors, at my expense. The brakes function adequately without the abs fuse, but the red brake failure light on the instrument panel is on continually, as well as the amber abs light. If i go back to removing the interior abs fuse, the red light will go out and should be available to indicate any other cause for brake failure, but i sacrafice the cruise control. Gm has admitted that they designed a defective abs system that is prone to rust and corrosion in certain "rust belt" states and provinces of canada and they are aware that these vehicles have been unsafe to operate. The ineffective recall repairs to my truck cost general motors $46.88 on the invoice and yet they expect me to pay about $1,200 to really repair and replace their defective parts. I don't think so.

There is no indication on the panel that there is pulsation.also there is no abs noise and light braking power. Dealership is aware of problem.consumer stated that heat vent cap keeps popping off and replaced. Tail gate bed liner not flat, panel rippled and rescuer rear panel, install additional fastener.horn pad failed, brakes are squeaky,, abs system checked could not duplicate any problem, brake pedal goes to floor at times and vehicle does not stop, master cylinder leaking internally.*yd

Abs brakes failed at low speed when trying to stop.i hit a small tree and almost hit a fire hydrant.

Reduced braking when going slow over bumpy roads or rail road tracks.when braking in these conditions the abs will pulse for no reason and reduce braking.

In regards to nhtsa recall id 05v379000. Mailed a recall notice from gmc about this issue with the wheel speed sensors. Truck exhibiting issue noted in recall. Dealership would not repair vehicle under recall and charge us $42 for diagnostics fee. They even noted that the wheel speed sensors needed replaced but would not do it. Truck does not stop correctly under 10 mph due to anti -lock motor running.

Dt: the contactreceived nhtsa recallcampaign 05v379000 concerning the anti-lock brakes. Both wheel sensors were cleaned by the dealer under this recall. Although the recall work was completed the contact abs failures. Recurred.the absengagedat low speeds. He took the vehicle back to his certified dealer once since the recall work was completed, andthe right front sensor was replaced. But, problem still occurred.he had another appointment to take the vehicle back to the dealership this week to determine what kind of solution was needed to remedy the problem.

Dt:while driving about two months ago at very low speeds, the consume could feel the abs kicking in, he could feel it pulsating.this morning he jumped a curb, and went onto a sidewalk because the brakes failed.this only happens at low speeds, below 5 mph.when slowing down the brakes will work fine until he gets to about 5 mph.then they fail.consumer states this happened every day.

Brake pedal intermittantly feels as though there is air in the line and needs to be pressed all the way to the floor to stop.happens regardless of ambiant temperature or engine temp.the local dealer replaced the brake master cylinder at 1515 miles problem still exists.i have talked to other owners who have experienced the same loss of brake pedal feel.i am a little more than concerned that the brakes will fail in an emergency stop.

I was pulling into a parking spot at my sons baseball game when i applied the brakes ,and the pedal went almost to the floor and the anti-lock brakes started buzzing.luckily i was going slow enough for the park to engage on the transmission. This is the only time this has happened on dry pavement going this slow. I had zero brakes and i was barely moving when they were applied. The brakes started working when i returned to the truck after the game.i called a local shop, and he said there was nothing he could do if they were working properly now. I called g.m. And had them log my complaint, they told me that i was the first one to complain. I am filing a complaint with nhtsa after learning of more of the odd brake failures from other gmc truck owners.

The abs system in my 2000 gmc sierra 1500 pickup came on several times while braking on dry pavement, causing me to lose the ability to control my vehicle.after this happened a couple times i was more cautious when stopping, so accidents were avoided - however, before i was ablet to get my vehicle in for service there were several times when i was out of control.this only occurred when i was coming to a stop, and the vehicle had slowed to 5 mph or less.i would not be reporting this but for the fact that the mechanic at my brake shop said he has seen this same problem with several gm trucks of this age.apparently the problem is that the abs sensor, built into the front wheel hubs, is not designed well enough to handle the exposure to road salt and sand common to the northeast.i was lucky that i did not get into an accident due to this problem.but others may not be as fortunate in the future.also, due to the design of the hub/sensor, this repair is rather expensive (almost $400), so i was only able to afford repairs on one side.my mechanic said the other side will likely fail soon as well.

Left rear brakes locked up followed by complete brake failure.

Dt:the contactreceived nhtsarecall05v379000concerningthe anti -lock brake system. He took the vehicle to the dealership, and they performed the recall repairs. The abs light was still on, andthe abs didnot work.while driving for short periods of time the consumer experienced brake failure.this resulted inextendedstopping distance.he contacted the dealership and manufacturer, but the problem was not covered by the recall. On loose dirtwhile traveling down hillbrakes let go. The bottom of the truck hit the bottom of the hill, bending the front frame rails and front cross memeber. Driver was traveling about 30-40 mph when this happened. The problem has been reported to the dealership. Please provide further information.

While making a relatively fast stopon a fairly bumpy road, but without slamming on my brakes, the truck had slowed to about 30 or 35mph from approximately 50 mph when the brake pedal suddenly dropped and the brakes failed momentarily, and then caught again.when we finally stopped, i ended up half way through the intersection.fortunately, it was a rural road and there was no other traffic and consequently there was no accident.it simply scared the heck out of me and my wife.my dealer indicates that there is no service bulletin on this type of problem, however he stated that their brake technician fixed a similar problem of the brake pedal suddenly failing when another of their customers was stopping his pickup truck while driving over railroad tracks.additionally, my neighbor who drives a 2000 yukon xl, stated that he had a similar experience of his brakes suddenly and only momentarily failing while stopping from about 35mph with similar results to my experience of him ending up in the middle of the intersection.fortunately, he too had no traffic and consequently no accident.i know that he also reported this to his dealer which coincidently is baird gm of ripon, wisconsin.

The abs system kicks in and the brake pedal goes to the floor.this is an intermittent problem, usually between 40-5o mph this is the fifth time that the brakes have failed. Consumer feels this is a dangerous situation and can cause a lot of stress because she has to constantly watch how she drives you drive , so if the brakes do fail she would be prepared to prevent a crash.*sb

The vehicles tire size was not programmed into the electronic braking system when it left the factory and it was not calibrated for the tire size which caused the abs system not to operate properly resulting in extended stopping distance.nlm

Encountered total brake failure while braking on an off ramp.approximate speed was 25 mph.when attempting to brake, abs module emitted a loud noise, brake pedal remained firm but total brake loss on all 4 wheels encountered.evasive steering and release of brake pedal restored vehicle braking and avoided contact with other vehicles.

When the brake pedal was applied at 10 mph , the brakes failed to operate.the dealership found rust covering the front wheel sensor, which caused the failure.four months prior, the rotors deteriorated because of the type of factory metal used.the dealership cleaned the front wheel sensor, which corrected the brake failure.the brake pedal had become hard and pushed back.this was especially dangerous at low speeds. *sc

Loss of braking on bumpy or unpaved downhill slope. The brake pedal became stiff and the truck kept going right out of my driveway into 55 mph traffic luck being with me no cars or trucks were coming.

Dt:2000 gmc sierra, the vehicles anti-lock brakes come on at low speed, when the consumer puts pressure on the brakes at for example 10 mph the abs kicks in, there are no other problems with the vehicle, there are no other previous problems with the vehicle.

Intermittently while driving between 15 to 20 mph and applying the brakes. Pedal went allthe way to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.

Vehicle tends to slow down slowly when the brakes are applied, especially when coming to an intersection, almost causingit to hit pedestrians. Consumercontacted manufacturer for check up.

Drp in anti-lock braking system fails.it is a design problem new with the 2000 models.check gmc technical service bulletins.

When having to make a sudden stop brake pedal will notdepress. Then, upon hittingit again , there was vibration.on rough roadsit wasimpossible to stop. Might as well not had any brakes.

I own a 2000 gmc sierra pickup 4x4. The vehicle has less than 100,000 miles.within the last two months, the abs has activated without need more than forty times at low speed. Several times almost causing a accident!the dealerships i've talked to have done nothing..as of late, i've seen on the news that gm and nhtsa is aware of the problem and is looking into it.which is great, but the states they are looking at, isn't one i live in.this problem has gotten to the point i have disabled the abs for fear it will cause a accident!the snow is coming soon and i would like to have a braking system that works at 100%please do what ever you can to speed this process along. Myself and the owners of these vehicles are counting on you!thank you for your timejason zebrowski.

Dt:the contact stated while coming to a stop she depressed the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. She noticed brake fluid all over the road.the dealer told the manufacturer the brake lines were completely rusted. The rotors have been turned once due to accumulation of rust. Ongoing problem with brake pedal going to the floor before stopping. Vehicle been in / out of dealer's shop on three occasions, and problemstill occurring.also, dealerinformedconsumer that this was a normal characteristic ofbraking system on those vehicles.

Anti-lock brakes began activating over the slightest bumps in the road.one day pulling into parking space, anti-lock brakes activated and truck would not stop and hit the gaurdrail.

Anti-lock brakes kicking in at low speeds (under 10 mph) when coming to a stop causing unexpected elongated stopping distances.had to pull fuse to disable the abs module in order to brake normally (but w/o abs).per gmc diagnostic, speed sensors not putting out correct reading at low speeds.gmc dealer replaced both front and bearing & hub assemblies.truck out of warranty but dealer picked up half the cost, and i paid $352.17.filedcomplaint with gm - problem file # 1-236485201.

With increasing frequency, i have experienced repeated failures of the abs brake system at low speeds.this has caused extended stopping distances and, on at least three occasions, near collisions.dealer quickly identified the recommended repair as replacement of the rf wheel bearing assembly, which includes the abs speed sensor.disturbingly, the dealer indicated that this problem is not uncommon, and that no recall currently exists.dealer further indicated that future failures (either of the same bearing assembly or the other bearing assembly) are possible.

When coming to a normal stop and speed is around 5 mph the abs system makes a loud noise, the brake pedal becomes stiff and the vehicle does not stop.this happened 2 years ago (the first time - approximately 42,000 miles) and the dealer replaced the front wheel speed sensors.now the same problem is occurring.the dealer states that the wheel speed sensors need to be replaced again and note that there were no codes in the computer.the dealer was able to reproduce the problem.the abs warning light does not come on.i contacted gm's customer assistance and was told that since the vehicle is out of warranty and the parts are out of warranty, they cannot help with the repair.my point is after the parts are replaced, this can happen again with no warning.the first time this happened, i was in rush hour traffic and had to veer off to the shoulder and hit the emergency brake.this time, i was exiting my driveway and was unable to stop and rolled into the road.gm claims that this is not a "documented" issue, even after admitting there is a tsb for this repair.the repair is insufficient in my opinion.i does not prevent brake loss from occurring in the future without warning.after calling gm customer assistance back and complaining, they said to wait 2 to 3 days to see if they will cover the repair cost (wheel speed sensors).they avoid answering how this will be resolved so that it will not happen again.

Rear leaf springs makes noise when vehicle goes over bumps.vehicle has been repaired numerous times.contacted gmc, and gmc stated that was the way vehicle was designed. The anti-lock brakes kickin when trying to stop on bumpy road and makes it impossible to stop the vehicle.

Consumer complaint concerning the antilock brakes which malfunctioned prior to recall notification.the recall work was done but the same day the antilock brakes failed again.the vehicle was returned to the dealer .the dealer claimed there was nothing more they could do.

On 2 separate occasions vehicle experienced abs failure.when this occurred there wasa 2 second delay reaction before the abs engaged. Vehiclehad nobrakes for 2 seconds.without warning between 4 to 7 mph, abs system blocks the braking action which caused an extended stopping distance.*la

Dt:abs light is coming on. Took vehicle to the mechanic who told the consumer there was a recall, when consumer called manufacturer, they stated that the vin was not part of the recall.

The abs turns on in my truck while coming to a slow stop causing the truck to not stop. I took upart my hubs, the front abs sensor has corrosion in it that puts it out by a few thousandths and it thinks it is going -5 mph and turns the abs on. This has almost caused several accidents for me as i have rolled right into several intersections when i expected my brakes to stop my truck. Luckily i was quick enough to use the ebrake each time until i could get a temp fix going. The problem is with the sensor, not the abs itself. I am not sure how to correct it, other than cleaning it regularly, so i disbaled my abs (pulling the fuse under the hood) to make it safe to drive the truck in the mean time until a resolution can be found.

While pulling into traffic at 5 mph abs light came on and stayed on.vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the abs module needed replacement.

While applying the brakes abs brakelight appeared on the dashboard and remained on. This caused a loss of brake power.consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that thebrake pressure modulator valve was not functional, and needed to be replaced.

My 2000 gmc sierra 1500 pick up has had poor braking from the time i bought it new from the dealer.they said it was normal for this vehicle.while driving to wisconsin from our ohio home on july 1, 2004, i had to brake quickly due to heavy traffic going through downtown chicago.the brakes did not totally fail, but were poor enough that i had to quickly change to the next lane to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me.after returning from vacation, i did some investigation online and found through a friend of a friend that gm engineers were aware of brake problems with this and subsequent models and instituted a fix with the 2003 model to correct the problem.i then contacted my local dealer, who said gm had no recall nor would they cover any repair costs incurred, since i was 3 months out of warranty even though within the mileage.i had the brakes repaired at the dealer, norris gmc in medina, ohio, and it totaled $1,587, or close to that.i found that to be preposterous and filed a complaint with gm customer service.to date, they have offered no retribution for this claim.knowing that they had a problem, which was subsequently fixed on later models is reprehensible to me and i feel they should have at least notified owners to have their vehicles inspected when they learned of the defect.i doubt that i am alone in this issue and would like your assistance in bringing gm to offer some retribution for those of us who have had similar experiences.

Dt:the owner had problems with the low speed brake applications when coming to a stop at stop signs. The abs problems began last year. The owner had to have the front wheel sensors and rings replaced. The brakes worked okay for a while. Then on july 28 2005 while driving at 30 mphand approachinga red lighttried to stop but the brakes failed. Could not stop and hit the curb. The owner added a quart of brake fluid and looked underneathand saw the brake fluid squirting out of the brake lines. Then, at home the owner let the vehicle sit andthe rest of the brake fluid drained out. Then, the owner called gmc, and told them what happened.he didnot think it was normal for the brake lines to rust at 47,000 miles. Gmc advised the owner to take the car to the local dealership, who kept the car for one week. Gmc sent an investigator whocould not find a leak in the brake lines. The inspector was contacted by the owner ,and the owner asked if the inspector had filled the brake fluid and pushed the brake and he said no. The owner asked how can the fluid leak out if brake fluid was not put in. Then, theowner examined the brake lines and saw that they wererusted/corroded.the owner contacted gmc againadvisinggmc thatthe inspector had not filled the brake lines. Gmc denied theowner's claim.however, the ownerdid not know why the brake lines rusted. The dealership advised that the owner that he would have to pay for the repair of rusted brake lines. Theowner paid the repair cost.upon inspection of the vehicle the owner noticed the brake lines were only partiallyreplaced. The costof repairs was $894.78 for about 4 feet of brake lines.

I own a 2000 gmc sierra 2500 4wd. I bought this truck new in june of 2000. In the past year, the corrosion issues are becoming overwhelming. Yesterday, a brake line blew out while driving. The brake pedal went to the floor as i approached a stop sign at an intersection with a state highway. Luckily, i got stopped as i was only going 25 mph. I babied it to a local garage 1/4 mile away, and found brake fluid dripping out below the fuel tank area. After looking underneath, the mechanic noticed that most of the brake lines will need replaced because of rust. Goes along with the corrosion issue under the whole truck. I've already replaced the rear spring shackles on both sides, as one had rusted and broke in half while driving. This caused the leaf spring to slam up against underside of the bed, which dented and cracked the paint in the bed. I restore vehicles for a living, and i've seen cars from the 1940's that don't have this much rust on the underside. Come on gm!! it's great that the body looks like new and the engine runs great, but it doesn't do any good when the frame rots out from underneath!! and now the brake lines---glad i wasn't going 60 mph with a loaded trailer when it blew!!

While driving rear brake line snapped, causing fluid to leak out, and resulting in heavy vibration.will be hard to stop.

Brake system:while driving on avenue at 35-40mph, i crossed a railroad crossing while braking and brake pedal appeared to go to the point of least resistance, or near the floor board.also, while stopped at intersections, noticed brake pedal very slowly moving to the floor while foot on brake pedal.immediately took truck to the dealer service dept. And the service dept. Diagnosed it as a leaking master cylinder.the master cylinder was replaced however i still notice brake pedal seeking point of least resistance while crossing railroad crossings and dips/moderate bumps in the road.i feel that this is a safety issue due to the fact that i bought this truck as a family truck and it carries my children on a regular basis.i feel that master cylinder should not have leaked at 822 miles.other issue>>> highway speed vibrations:truck has had a persistent highway speed vibration (40-45 mph and 60-70 mph).the truck was serviced for this problem on sept. 27 and oct. 5.sept. 27 they balanced the wheels.on oct. 5, they balanced the wheels again and suggested that the wheel weights are "coming off" causing unbalanced tires.wheel weights have remained intact as of this date but vibration still exist.the vibration feels like it starts at the rear of the truck and migrates through the truck to the steering column and wheel which on occasion has exhibited moderate to heavy shaking including seats and dash.while in turns at times and going over bumps, steering wheel shakes giving the sense of not in control.i feel this is a safety issue since vehicle shakes and vibrates while at highway speeds and something should be done to correct.the gm factory rep. Would like to change the tires to the same brand, goodyear wranglers, however i suggested to him that the truck was in for vibration twice and i suggested swapping tires/wheels to see if this would solve problem and they indicated they did swap but it did not solve problem.this vehicle is not safe.

Slave cylinder on hydraulic clutch failed instantly resulting in loss of stopping ability. Occurred at home in drive without an accident. Could have been catastrophic if traveling on public highway in traffic.

Vehicle went out of control and hit the median causing injury to driver and passengers because of brake and steering mechanism failure.yh

After driving through 12 inces of snow for aprox. 100 feet, a thumping noise started in the front left wheel area. Two mechanics checked it and said it was nothing. After 2 months the front drive shaft failed, was replaced and the sound stopped. Shortly after we started having trouble stopping at slow speeds, the abs would kick the pedal up, and the stopping distance at 10 mph became 50 -100 ft. Wheel sensor bearing was replaced at a cost of over $800. The drivers side rear window leaks air, the door weatherstriping on both sides fall off on a regular basis.the gas guage sometimes reads empty when the tank is just filled, and sometimes bounces from place to place. The drivers side pwr window regulator failed and pulled the glass out of the track. Pwr mirror switch failed cannot adjust mirrors except to the left and up. Daytime running lights blow bulbs constantly. Tires have strange wear, one lug high, one lug low, all four tires, properly inflated.back door doesn't latch in cold weather, drivers door latch froze open this winter. Washer fluid switch only works when pushed "beyond normal" position. Rear vents in console won't close. Brakes seem to sputter when depressed heavy/light @ any speed. This problem still continues. General tire brand-rear right tire blew out the side wall on freeway @ 75mph-ran over nothing. Right rear tire was replace @ no cost, due to failure.problem has not accured yet. Steering wheel always feels loose-has been checked and service claimed "there is no problem". Service has checked and replaced few brake parts(2 times) and problem still accures. All of these problems presist and are a major safety problem to my family and i. We would really like to see these problems fixed before any injuries accure!!!!!

It greatly concerns me that a failure in the power steering shaft occurs especially when it's happening to other people with the same truck. I have also had the steering shaft replaced 3 times. Are they just waiting for someone to get killed?

Clamp came off a hose while driving at approximately 35mph, causing power steering fluid to leak, resulting in loss of power steering and brakes.

Took the truck into a local goodyear store to have a whining noise diagnosed.the technician could not hear the noise and turned the wheel in one direction.when he tried to turn it back, it would not turn.he proceeded to replace the power steering pump and advised us that the shaft on the power steering pump had just snapped or broken.the power steering pump was replaced, and we retained the old power steering pump.i had heard about a recall for a similar issue and called a gm dealership to inquire into the recall.i was advised that gm had issued a recall for the year, make, and model of our truck for the exact problem we had experienced, but that our particular truck (when it was looked up by vin number) was not included in the recall.it sounds like the recall needs to be expanded to include additional trucks.

I went into a slide on ice ,spinning 180 degrees, icame to a stop without hittinganything. After i got control i had no power steering or brakes. I drove the truckhome and investigated the problem with the help of friends and a specific repair manual. The problem is the power steering shaft completely severed.

Consumer states the automatic lock is plainly visible whereas the manual lock is not, making the automatic lock the thiefs first choice and again the system in unarmed. When leaving the driver side or passenger window slightly open, intentionally or not, the location of the automatic door locks (facing upward on the armest), is such that a coat hanger bent through the opening can easily depress the automatic door lock, thereby disarming the vehicle making it possible to open the door from the outside without sounding the alarm to steal the contents.

Consumer received recall 04v129000 concerning tailgate support cable breaking.the tailgate cable broke when the consumer let the tailgate down. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.

Nhtsa #04v129000gm recall #04007my vin:[xxx]gm tells me that my truck is not part of the recall. Gm's recall notice that i see on mygmlink.com after entering my vin states "on some of these vehicles, the galvanized steel tailgate cable that supports the tailgate in the full open position may corrode, weaken, and fracture." i have galvanized steel cables which are corroded and weakened. One fractured about a year ago, the other is close to breaking. I contacted gm about getting temporary replacements that they also state in the recall. This is when they told me that my vin was not part of the recall. My question is, how could it not be part of the recall?i have a 2000 sierra and my cables are corroded, weakened and fractured. I would think all cables that were manufactured with galvanized steel have a problem with corroding because of moisture. Gm even states in their recall question/answer section that "moisture and environmental contaminants may enter between the metal strands of the cable at either end of the cable and in some cases, the black plastic sheathing may become cracked or torn during normal usage creating a path for moisture entry. Moisture may collect and concentrate near the center of the cable during normal usage of the tailgate, the cable is flexed at the midpoint. Repeated flexing, plus corrosion caused by the moisture and contaminants, may weaken the metal strands, and they can eventually sever under load." the fact is, the cables are breaking due to the galvanized steel corroding. It seems like gm is trying to get by with replacing as few of the poorly designed cables as the nhtsa will let them get by with. If you would like digital photos of my broken/corroded cables, please let me know. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide with getting my cables replaced.but more then anything, i think gm should be forced the correct this issue on all their vehicles that use galvanized steel in their cables.thank you. While driving down a dirt hill at 3 mph applied brakes, and the vehicle free wheeled downa hill at 40 mphdue to the abs system failure. Also, frame is bent.

2000 gmc 1500-has broken frame above rear axle. Truck has been used to tow trailer with tongue weight never over 700#,using hitch with 1000# rating.also installed is air bags between rear axle and frame, to allow leveling when trailer attached on hitch. No explanation recieved from dealer other than have never seen it happen.did say have seen it on dodge trucks. The dealer rep did not suggest how to repair or at what cost, they didn't seem interested incorrecting the problem since the warranty was over by 2500 miles. So i took it to a general welder who quoted me $200 to $400 dollars to weld the frame and add a piece of steel to the frame to re-inforce this obvious place of stress. The welder also says he has seen this happen before and done these kind of repairs because none of the manufactured frames are re-inforced at the point of stress that would be put on a frame when weight is added as far back as a hitch. I am in the process of having these repairs done a thought other trailer hauling pick-up owners should be aware of this fault. This truck is rated for #8800 towing, with a #1000 rated tongue weight hitch.never have i had more than#5000 trailer weight with no more than &700 tongue weight, but the frame still cracked making this an un-known safety hazard. I could have been towing the trailer and the frame could have broken completley, dropped the trailer to groung causing seperation from the truck and than [what]?. Your guess is good as mine.

Driving truck in town applied brakes at a stoplight brake pedal went straight to the floor. No brakes at all had to go thru the red light and around 3 cars in front of me, rubbed the curb to get the truck to stop. Rust and corrosion on the steel rear brake lines caused line failure.

I purchased my vehicle used. The used car lot said all the clunking in the rear and vibration in the front was due to an aluminum drive shaft. I have been to numerous new auto dealers and no one can find the source. I have phoned gm and they say it is the first time they ever heard of clunking noise from the rear. Yet this problem is posted all over the internet. It may not cause a crash but it sure is irritating to hear over every little bump in the road.

When hitting a bump there was a very loud noise coming from the rear end.truck was taken to a dealership.dealership's opinion was that the noise was coming from a dfectivering and pinion in the rear axle. Owner was told that gmc was aware of the problem. Gmc did not know what was causing this problem, and was working on a solution.problem has not been corrected. The front seat belt squeak and has excessive tension.rear seat latch malfunctions.under hood light malfunctions.

Thank you

Vehicle experience vibration while driving over 30 mph, causing steering to shake violently. Vibration will fade after speeds of 50 mph. Dealer has checked tires/ wheels, cannot determine cause.

Vehicle is expereincing multiple suspension problems such as bouncing, shaking, swaying and instability in the rear of the vehicle increasing the possibility of loss of control of the vehicle while driving at highway speeds, on wet surfaces, on potholes, cracks and / or raised ridges.also tires are screeching and spinning excessively and a higher inflation rate is required than that listed on the door panel increasing possiblity of loss of control of the vehicle.

I had the dealer do a schedule tire rotation, and on they way home i reached the speed of 40 mph the truck started to shake like i was going over speed bumpers. This stopped but the front end still bounces when ever you go over a series of small bumps the whole front just shakes you have to use two hands to keep the vehicle in control, don't use the brake the pedal goes soft until you are out the rough road. I have had the tires replaced and but new rims on the vehicle. The bounce is still noticeable at speeds over 40, the road does not change the effect. The crowning of the road is not the problem. The dealer says the front is tight and can not duplicate my problem so they can not fix it. The service manger says i've lowered my front end this gmc sierra is totally oem exc for tire, and aftermarket dress.i had the truck aligned and the thrust angle was off so my son-inlaw and i did a thrust alignment first and the front end alignment. Also one of the upper control arm bolts was slightly loose, you could see the brown rusty powder around the bushing so this was loose for some time. I am a diesel mechanic so i know there is something wrong loose, or worn out that needs to be done to correct the problem, things do wear out and i do not mind paying for things to be done correctly

Tire blew out, exploding sidewall, complete tire failure.(dot number: vncuird019tiresize: p255/70r/1)

Initially patched the tire in the center of the tread, the next problem was at least two to three inches away and was bursting on the internal wall of the tire.

I had no trouble with the tires until late may, 2000.during the last week of may through the middle of june 2000, i had five flats on these tires.apparently, the temperature in texas was a factor.there was never any foreign object in the hole in the tire.the holes were always of a rupture type, never a clean puncture.the flats always occurred when i was driving on gravel roads.the last flat was on the right front tire.i was again on a gravel road and was forced to brake suddenly.immediately upon braking, i experienced a rapid, almost instantaneous, deflation of the right front tire.the tire was not repairable, as the star shaped hole was approximately 2-3 inches in diameter.after this failure, with less than 12,000 miles wear on them, i replaced all four tires on my truck.at that time, nothing had been made public about problems with firestone tires.(dot number: w273wma279tiresize: p26575r16)

The raised places can be described as large blisters of 6-8 square inches in size.the "bubble" spots were found only on the outside sidewall.none were observed on the inside sidewall. I then observed the other tires on the vehicle and found depressions or unevenness in the sidewall of the other tires. (dot number: w273 wmatiresize: p265/75r16)

Consumer can not get emergency spare tire out of vehicle with tools that are provided by manufacturer due to a bent plastic shaft that was bent during assembly. Please provide further information.

Spare tire cannot be removed due to the tire pushing up on the tube that the tool goes into from the rear bumper, causing the tool to be misaligned with the spare tire winch. This situation could be hazardous on the highways due to the frustration of trying for hours to get the tire down. ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis ****760787.

The spare tire hoist cable holding the spare tire on my vehicle failed while i was driving causing my spare tire to drop onto the road and forcing vehicles behind me to take evasive action.

While driving, the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably.the consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection. The mechanic informed the consumer the problem could not be duplicated.

The accelerator pedal on the pickup has andstill does stick when trying to accelerate slightly/slowly forward or backward as in parallel parking. The problem is worse in hot weather. The dealer, during warranty period, told me they found no defect and knew of no defect. I left it go. My friend who owns a saturn sedan told me he has the same problem with the accelerator sticking during small maneuvers. I have just read that there are twelve complaints similar to my issue that have been reported to your agency. I am reporting the same at present though the problem has been ongoing for ten years.it makes close parking difficult and i try to avoid the situation because of such. I have almost crashed many times because of the amount of overpressure to the accelerator to make the truck move.

Accelerator pedal sticks in a closed position, and then it will suddenly take off, which can cause a loss of vehicle control. Dealer claimsdefect is due to a dirty throttle body. Throttle body should be cleaned every 15,000 miles. Consumer is upset because this information is not stated in owner's manual.

I just bought a 2000 gmc sierra 1500 pickup with the 5.3 liter engine.the throttle sticks when you start off in it from a stopped position.the accelerator has a tight spot in it when you first press on it.this can be very dangerous if it sticks too much when it breaks loose the truck will go forward real quick and you could hit somebody or something.someone told me that the butterfly had carbon built up on it and it needed cleaning.i called a gm dealer and talked to the service manager and he said it was reported before and he would clean the throttle valve for $90.00.i think this should be covered by the manufacturer and besides it will happen again when carbon builds up on it again.a permanent fix needs to be put in place as a recall item i think.

The accelerator pedal has been sticking intermittently for the past 5 months.it takes extra effort to move the pedal from the neutral (rest) position in order to accelerate.this condition is intermittent.currently, the sticking is barely noticeable.other times, it is very apparent.note:i know of two other gmc sierra and chevy silverado ownes at my place of employment.both have had this problem (both are year 1999 vehicles, one 2wd, the other 4wd).my vehicle is a 2wd regualr cab short bed pickup. The accelerator pedal became stuck.the consumer stated the problem started during the warranty period, however the dealership claimed it was not a warranty issue.

The consumer was at a stand still when putting the vehicle in reverse, the consumer pressed the accelerator pedal and there was some resistance in the accelerator pedal and then the pedal dropped straight to the floor. When the vehicle was moving backwards, the owner hit the brake and the vehicle began to accelerate on it s own at a high rate of speed. The consumer crossed two lanes of traffic and hit a guard rail.provide further details.

While applying the accelerator pedal vehicle failed to move. After applying the accelerator pedal numerous times the vehicle jumpedand surged forward.consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.

While drivingat any speed accelerated pedal stuck. Consumer would have to depress the brake pedal numerous of times to stop the vehicle. Dealership will be notified.

My accelerator pedal has been sticking for quite some time.it was very subtle at first and i didn't give it much thought.i had intended to mention it to my dealer but didn't because i began having problems with not being able to start my truck.after about five or six trips to the dealer they finally installed a new computer component that had been recalled and fixed the problem.now my warranty is up and the gas pedal seems to stick more often.i can live with it while traveling because it doesn't stick at a current speed that i am driving at; it sticks when i want to start out or accelerate.my concern is that recently when i started the truck it stuck to the point that when i tried to depress it stuck and then freed to where i darted out of my parking spot.this was scary and i decided i had better report it to the dealer.i had a service completed on may 23, 02 and raised my concerns with shawn d. In the service dept. And another gentleman (name unknown).the unknown party asked me if my truck was still under warranty and i told him no.i also pointed out that this should be a recall item as it could be a major accident waiting to happen.he said they were aware of the problem and that it was a carbon buildup that took about an hour to repair.he said gm hasn't decided to recall it at this point.i don't feel that i should have to pay for a potential safety hazard that was a manufacturer's boo boo.i am surprised that a company that has such wonderful marketing ads stressing professional service and pride would overlook a problem that could prove extremely costly to them in the future.i hope you can be of some assistance to me.i

The gas pedal sticks regularly. It sticks when the vehicle is at a stand still. It is very hard to press the pedal at times. When i do push the pedal it takes a lot of pressure to get it pushed in and the vehicle then darts forward very quickly. When in a tight space this can be quite dangerous as i am unable to control it.8nlm

While driving throttle sticks inclose position.when applying excessive pressure togas pedal vehiclelunges forward. Please provide any further information.

While driving vehicle and pressing down onaccelerator pedal, it would become stuck. Sometimes driver would have to hit/kickpedal to have it released. Vehicle would accelerate while this happens. Have taken to dealership & was informed its a common problem in the vehicle.

Consumer states while driving the vehicle and without warning the vehicle gas pedal gets stuck. Tsgas pedal stuck and had to be tapped to get to move.this caused excessive engine rpms possibly causing an accident.consumer had to keep foot on brake to prevent vehicle from lurging forward.

Throttle becomes sticky when closed.as a result extra force is required on the accelerator when initialy depressed.this is an extremly dangerous situation especialy in parking lots or other tight, highly populated areas since extra force is required on the accelerator to "break it free" once it does "break free" the vehicle can lunge/lurch foreward uncontroled.this situation makes smooth throttle control unobtainable.the problem seems to get worse with higher ambient temperatures as i assume the throttle plate expands when hot and binds in the throttle body.cleaning the throttle body provides relief for a very short period.i have read about this problem on several internet message boards and believe that gm offers an updated throttle body to correct this problem.due to the extreem safety hazzard i feel that gm is neglegent in not offering to correct this problem at their cost, as gm does seem to be aware of the deficiency.

Antilock system engages while coming to a slow stophappens almost constantly.throttle sticks on initial contact.

We purchased a used 2000 gmc and within a month experienced experienced throttle sticking closed so severe you could not move the vehicle.then if you applied a lot of pressure it would lurch forward.we took it in after a couple of months to a local gmc dealer and they said it was the throttle body and it was warped and would need to be replaced.they had no explanation why it would have become warped.we paid 643.00.when we picked up the vehicle my wife went online to research if there were any problems and came across a reference to a tsb so we checked out nhtsa and under defects was listed the investigation that is still open about the throttle body( ea02-015) .we were very upset and took in copies of the tsb and spoke to the service manager.on our receipt was listed another tsb #00-06-04-007b as to why they replaced it.but with a charge.we felt they should had disclosed this problem and that odi was investigating it . The service manager said he would call gmc andwe received a call the next day that gmc would be sending us a check for 400 to cover the part.that seems fair but we definately feel this is a safety issue.had we not been older drivers and very cautious we could have been involved in an accident.it could have stuck open as well as closed.

Drivers side power window does not adjust sufficently to eliminate blind spot, mirror replaced under warranty. New mirror worked the same. Dealer says that is the way they all are. I am average size. This would be worse with tall drivers.

Front passenger seat belt retractor is locking up while driving. Dealer notified. The driver side window makes noise when rolling down due to regulator assembly failure, also the center console would not open.

Ipurchased a 2000 gmc sierra 1500 2wd ext cab pickup and took delivery about 12-23-1999. I requested camper mirrors and the pasenger side came with regular glass, which makes it impossible to see in the blind spots . Gm would not do anything about it even though later the newer models came with a small convex mirror in the unit. The replacement for the truck now calls for the convex mirror but gm insists that the one i got was ok. What does it take to get gm to correct this problem?

I was driving at a speed of 60 mph with all windows shut and my air condition on when my drivers side ext-cab window just blew right out of the truck. The latch that holds the window shut hit one of the kids in the hand and ended up in the passenger side pocket. The window hit the side of the truck then ended up shattering in the middle of the road with traffic trying to avoid the broken glass and me pulling of to the side of the road wondering what happend. That could have caused a major accident, and the latch could have caused serious injury to a child if hit in the face. Thanks jeff.

The spare tire holder broke off and the spare tire was released from the undercarriage of the truck onto the roadway.this could have resulted in a very serious accident if it had occurred on a major highway at a faster speed.an inspection of the failed assembly shows that it is held up by a single thin steel cable, which was broken, allowing the assembly to release the spare tire and wheel.dt

The rubber flaps on the front fender wells fell off for the second time.

There is no indication on the panel that there is pulsation.also there is no abs noise and light braking power. Dealership is aware of problem.consumer stated that heat vent cap keeps popping off and replaced. Bad vibration in steering wheel and from rear of truck from 55mph to 75mph had rimschanged due to chrome piting didn't fix problem. Dealer has no clue on problem.
