Consumer's vehicle was hit in the rear by another vehicle traveling at about 45 mph.upon impact, air bags did not deploy.driver sustained back and chest injuries.

My son was just in a accident friday night in his 1999 gmc sierra truck. He swerved to miss a deer and rolled the truck six times. We are very thankful to still have him. The gmc did very good. It is totaled, but my son is fine. The airbags never came out. Are they only suppose to work with a head on impact? he was going side ways so he never had an head on impact. His hood had damage and his left headlight was broke off as far as the front.

While driving at approximately 30 mph accelerated after a stop light when rear ended by a vehicle traveling at 50 mph. Air bags did not deploy, and driver's seat belt did not restrain consumer. Consumer states that seat belt locked on second impact from car from behind.

We were approaching a stop sign at an intersection doing about 15 mph when another vehicle who was driving 60mph tried to make the turn and hit us passenger side front to passenger side front.this caused extensive front end damage and front right quarter panel damage to our 1999 gmc sierra and to the other vehicle.neither air bag deployed in the sierra pickup.because of the front end damage the frame was too twisted and too crimpled to be fixed.the body shop had to replace the frame.the frame under this 1999 gmc pickup is no longer made and was only made and used that one year.why?the frame currently being place back under our pickup is much more sturdy and durable and it is a 2000 frame which had to be ordered off the assembly line in michigan.the body shop even had to order more parts to make the frame work because it is much more heavy duty and the parts on the 1999 would not mount to the 2000 frame.i did contact the manafacture gm and i recieved word from them last week that they thought the airbag were working properly even though there was extensive damage to the vehicle which caused the frame to have to be replaced.i am not satisfied with that and i have told them so.injures from the accident for the passenger included head, chest, back, both knees with the right knee contusion much worse (waiting for mri results) , right shoulder sprang and both feet sprang.i have been searching this web site to find out when and how these airbags should active and i still cant find it.please i would appreciate any information on the frame under the 1999 gmc sierra pu and how and what makes an airbag activate.is it the jolt?both airbags in the other vehicle which were involved in the accident deployed why didnt ours especially when you get hit almost head on at 60mph.thank you, wanda and ronnie ryan.

Vehicle hydroplaned and ran into a concrete wall with a 40-45 mph impact, dual airbags did not deploy, causing minor injuries. Manufacturer and dealer have been notified.but,no one has inspected vehicle to determine cause.

Consumer states that while driving at 40-45 mph the consumer tried to avoid hitting a deer and ran into a tree and none of the front air bags deployed. Contacted dealer.*mr

While traveling at 40 mph, another truck pulled in front of consumer, consumer t boned and hit other vehicle. Upon impact, none of the airbags deployed.please provide any further information.

Vehicle was involved in a front end collision at 15 to 20 mph. Upon impact, driver's side/passenger's side air bags did not deploy. Dealer has been contacted.

Vehicle was involved in a rear end collision, driver's seat belt failed to operate, casusing driver to hit front windshield, and propelled driver onto passenger's side of vehicle. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified atthis time.consumer also states the airbags did not deploy. There was one injury.

While driving 60 mphthe vehicle was involved in a front end collision.neither of the frontal air bags deployed. *scc*nlm

Front collision at 40 mph, neither airbag deployed. Consumer suffered head and knee injuries, and vehicle was totalled.

We own a 1999 gmc sierra pickup.the odometer and shift indicator are the led type.both the odometer and shift indicator have shorted out and there is no way to tell what the mileage is or what gear the truck is in.this has resulted in two incidents where people were nearly run over because the driver did not know if the truck was in forward or reverse.also, although the odometer measures mileage, we can't read it because the display is dark.we contacted the dealer about getting this fixed and they indicated the cost was $400 but that they had repaired one of their own vehicles and it shorted out again two times.they just put up with it.to me that says that gmc has a problem with this component and they need to take care of it.this is a safety issue.

When vehicles engine is shut off the abs pump continues to run, until the vehicle battery goes dead, consumer has to disconnect.cause is unknown.please provide any furtherinformation.mr

Vehicle was moving and had to place foot on brakes to stop.abs pump had malfunctioned and failed to stop vehicle right away. Had to unplug pump due to wearing out ofbattery. Do not have any abs braking features.

The horn kept blowing fuses.nlm

I was informed by oconnors dealship of auburn, me. That the ecm shorted out and needed replacement at a cost of 700 dollar, not including labor.

Two broken manifold bolts in rear drivers side of engine on 5.3 vortec engine, exhaust leak from where manifold has separated form head. Carbon buildup and discoloration visible. High temp exhaust being released under the hood. Appears to be a very common complaint on many gm vehicles and model years.

Engine knocks on cold start

Truck had complete loss of oil pressure. Mechanic said engine appeared to have been run without oil. Knowing that this did not occur the failure had to be caused by a defect in the engine. I have been unable to get any cooperation.

Repeated abs brake failure.this has not been corrected despite numerous attempts to repair problem(s).heater motor malfunction, repeated wiper arm replacement, tailgate handle malfunction.

I experienced a sudden onset of a hissing noise coming from under the dashboard.the noise only starts above 1400 rpm and when warm.i have taken it to 2 gmc dealers and 1 independent service shop. All have stated that the noise is water going through the heater core. 1 dealer said that the coolant must have broken down and gelled or scaled into the heater core; therefore, it must be replaced.gmc owners manual states change coolant at 150000 mile or 5 years, if so, why did the coolant break down?this appears to be a major issue and i have read of similar cases.please help.dt

Dt*:the contact stated a knocking noise was heard momentarily when starting the vehicle.the vehicle has been taken to the dealership 3 times who determined the pistons were knocking.the problem cannot be repaired.the dealership informed the contact of a tsb #010601028a.updated 3/9/2006 -

The engine has two lifters, 5&8 knocking.i've been to the dealer and called the gmc customer service line three times each.they both say there is nothing they can do about it."gm is currently investigating condition."

The rear rotors u-joint, carbon build up on throttle, replaced window motor uses 2 qts of oil every 400 to 500 miles , transmission uses 1 qt of oil every 20000 miles , air conditioner fan does not work on high i believe the throttle build up is a safety issue with the gas petal sticking. We have a lemon

While driving at 80mph the vehicle will sporadically go out while switching lanes, then kicks back in after a few seconds. Dealer can'tsolve problem.

Engine knocks loudly at start-up and last for aprox. 2 minutes - dealer said this is a normal occurrence. The engine also has spark knock when accelerating and dealer also says this is normal - dealer said this is due to carbon build up on ring lands and could be temporarily repaired but would re-occur within 10,ooo miles.this problem started at 15,000 miles and continues to date.i cannot solve the problem with any type of additive advised by the dealer.dealer said gmc has a defective engine and i have to live with it.they told me even if they replaced the motor i would have the same problem with the knocking and pinging on accelleration.the dealer contacted gmc technical advisor dan pratner case # 3970330 and he advised them this was normal for this engine.i find it hard to believe a person can purchase a vehicle with a defective engine and be told this is normal.the public needs to know before they buy this particular product so they do not end up with a defective product that will cause them additional maintenance costs and a very low resale value not to speak of the embarrassment of having a vehicle that knocks loudly on cold start-up.i do not know what the long term effects of this engine knocking will do.if you do investigate this problem and find this to be caused by another problem that can be repaired, please let me know.thank you for your time.

Consumer states there is a loud knocking sound in engine every morning at start up, dealer could not find the cause, the manufacturer offered the consumer a warranty on the engine, consumer still experiencing problem.

Headlights go out when tire spin or when anti-lock brakes are activated.

I have experienced excessive wearing of the front brakes, which has resulted in the rotors being replaced first, then the pads replaced 2 weeks later, and upon replacing the pads the new rotors required resurfacing. Since then after driving approx 5k miles, i was told that the new pads are appox 40% worn. I required the right front balljoint to be replaced when the rotors were done. When applying the brakes & hitting a bump in the road, the brake pedal goes down to the floor and has a complete lose of braking. It failed the annual inspection, due to a leaking donnut gasket. The tailgate squeaks & rattles, and appears out of alignment. The front driver's door creaks requiring repeated greasing. There appears to be excessive wearing in the front end and braking system, as well as excessive creaking & noise from the rear area of the truck, tailgate, and driver's door. I have been met with continued resistance and lack of answers from both the mfg and dealer. Any help or information would be appreciated.

While driving in snowspeedometer started moving back and forth. Thenconsumer smelled rubber burning, and headlights popped out. Took to dealer and they said something overheated on the outside. But consumer said it was on the inside. Dealer put a module in, and made the problem worse. Consumer fears loosing lights on the road.

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for voicing these concerns but i hope and can be enlightened about these problems.i am not sure of the exact mileage or dates of any of these incidents without further study.the seatbelts on this truck will lock up intermittently while driving down the street with no braking.the right windshield wiper has broken free from the mechanism twice.the daytime lighting does not work though the lamps and fuses are in working condtion.the power steering pump sheared a shaft in two and was replaced under warranty.the engine clatters and was fixed once by the dealer however the fix has never lasted more than half of an oil change(1,500 miles.)the headlight and rotary dimmer switches and surrounding trim on the dash get extreemely hot to the point of burning.i know i have missed something, it's hard to believe that so many things have gone wrong with this truck.

The gas gauge in the consumer's 1999 gmc sierra failed.consumer feels that the cost of repairing the part was too high.the consumer has spoken to other owners with the same problem and believes the manufacturer should have recalled the part.

Fuel gauge low fuel light comes on intermittently even after just filling upand fuel gauge bounces all over the place.

Gas tank gauge works once in a while. Our mechanic said it was probably due to moisture. Also, the rear differential cover is either cracking or rusting through. I put a new gasket on it and the next day it was leaking again but not at the gasket. About 1/3 up from the bottom, you can see where fluid is leaking through the cover. I called 2 dealers (1 chevrolet, 1 gmc). They both gave me numbers to other dealers (1 in pa., 1 in ia., 1 in upper mi.). The two out of state dealers told me that the part was for a customer and would not sell it. The one in mi. Also said that, in addition to "that must be a popular part, because i've had every dealer in the country call me." is this part a defective piece?

Dt*:the contact stated there were two problems with the vehicle.first, the fuel gauge worked intermittently, but the vehicle has not been inspected by the service dealer concerning this issue.there were no warning indicators prior to the intermittent failure of the fuel gauge.second, the passenger window dropped into the door without warning.the vehicle was inspected by the contact and it was discovered a cable was broken that held the window in place.a shim was added to keep the window in stationary position.

Fuel pump/sending unit faulty. Gauge does not read proper fuel levels. One minute while going down road you have a full tank next minute light comes on fuel gauge reads empty. Sometimes gauge will not read fuel in tank at all. I have come across other gmc owners who have the same complaint. Guys at shop say it is common to replace the fuel pump/sending unit.

My gas gauge on my 1999 gmc sierra has not worked for over two years. Cost of repair to high.

Fuel gauge sending unit failed @ 57k miles.called gm. No satisfaction.cost to replace, with labor, is $700!!..for a toilet bowl float??!!sheesh!haven't fixed. Replacement cost is outrageous and it shouldn't have failed to begin with, especially not that early.

I was returning from hunting trip ,and when i got off i-75 freeway to go to my home traffic signal ahead was red and pedal went to floor. Fortunately, the light switched to green and i was able to maneuver to not collide with car stopped ahead. I nursed it home via back streets at very low speed and to the repair shop the next morning. Mechanic replaced brake line. The fuel line was rusted out at the fuel filter and discovered while other maintenance was being performed. The undercarriage is extremely rusted and i am concerned about pulling my travel trailer due to rusty condition of things. Rocker panels are rusted out as well as rear fender wells. Surely gm can control corrosion better than they are doing. Someone is going to be hurt or killed due to these vehicles rusting so badly.

Fuel pump will over heat and than short out.exhaust always rattlesengine knockscat. Converters went outdigital display stopped working

This is the second failure of the fuel pump. The first was slow to fail, this one was sudden and caused to vehicle to slow abruptly. Had we not been close to the offramp, who knows the danger. The antilock breaks have also failed as well as another engine electrical component that caused the engine to stop running.

The fuel gauge on my 1999 gmc sierra ext. Cab does not work.it has never worked.i did not see the problem as urgent until my brother-in-law, who has the exact same truck, got stranded in mexico because his fuel pump went out.he has had the same problem since he has had his truck and it cost him $300.00 dollars to change the fuel pump out.that was cheap because he did the work himself.i have done some research on the internet and have seen the same problem with several trucks of the same model and year.i went to the local dealership and there is no recall on the fuel pump for my truck and would respectfully request that the fuel gauge/pump for the 1999 gmc/chevy 1500 truck be looked into for consideration for a recall.

Fuel pumpis not working properly, and the vehicle is shutting off. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. While driving approximately 35 mph on a four lane highway, the contact came to an abrupt stop and the brake pedal suddenly traveled to the floor without resistance. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the technician informed that the brake line quality was poor with inexpensive materials. The vehicle was repaired at the cost of $850. In addition, the fuel lines exhibited leakage due to excessive corrosion which was replaced on a separate occasion. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that there were no complaints filed on the brake line system. The failure mileage was approximately 60,200. The vin was unavailable. Updated 06/16/11*ljthe consumer also stated there was a problem with the fuel lines. Updated 06/21/11

Gas filter is not working properly, filter is not allowing a lot of gas to flow through because when startingvehicle there is some noise that comes from the engine. Contacted dealer, anddealer was the one who stated that was the problem withvehicle.

Throttle body plate sticks, having to surge engine to unstick throttle

Consumer noticed a gas leak. Had vehicle serviced and was informed that carbon monoxide constantly builds up and seals the gas tank, causing a leak at the seam of thetank. Ts .

The gas tank leaked.

The rear strap that holds the gasoline tank in my vehicle broke due to corrosion of the strap.the tank stayed inplace until i could drive to the dealer to have it replaced.the dealer was not concerned and ordered the part and schedueld to replace it in a week.

Truck running sluggish. Difficult to start at times. Hooked up to computer a couple times and showed different sensors bad at different times.driving to work on 7/7/2005vehicle suddenly shuts down, able to pull into a resturant parking lot.problem :fuel pressure regulator clogged ( this is a vaccum line no gas should go through it)causing gas to flow at 60 pounds fuel pressure into the intake manifoldcausing a fire.because of this the manifold burned a big hole where #4 cylinder would be located. This happened while i was driving 55 mph down the road & was possibly still burning while i waited in my vehilcle to be picked up.i believe this is a dangerous & should be looked at.my girlfriends nephew found the problem & replaced the intake manifold & fuel pressure regulator.while working on my 99 gmc sierra her brother who drives a 2000 gmc sierra describes the same problems i was experiencing & promptly brings over his truck.upon looking at his fuel pressure regulator it also was full of gas !his was found earlier without resulting in fire & his fuel pressure regulator was replaced.i contacted gmc & they have given me a hard time, because they wanted me to take it to a gmc garage, i was not going to pay to have it towed there .but plan on stopping there monday 7/18/05 to show them the parts ( i have the fuel pressure regulator & the intake manifold with the hole burnt through)

The fuel gauge located on the dashboard malfunctioned. The lever fluctuateed between full and empty. The accurate amount of fuel in the tank was unknown. To correct this failure the fuel level sensorhas to be replaced. This is a common failure with these vehicles.

While on a trip gas gauge malfunctioned. The fuel gauge remained on 3/4 while the mileage was 335. When filling the tank it showed full after 4 gallons were delivered. The problem continued thereafter till present. The only way to know the fuel level is by the tripometer and guess work.

Dt: the contact stated that the fuel gauge indicatoriwasnot working correctly.when the fuel tank was filled up the gauge will move to empty, and the low fuel light will come on.after driving the vehicle for a while the gauge will move to full.but with continued driving the gauge will drop down to empty, and the fuel light will come on again.the service dealer stated that the sensor needed to be replaced.the contact hadnot replacedthe sensor.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, he smelled a strong gasoline odor inside of the vehicle. There was also fuel visible on the ground. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that both the fuel and brake lines were completely rusted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

I was coming to a stop and i lost my brakes i was able to get it stopped.took it to my mechanic right away and was told the brake line burst and hit my gas line busting it as well.they had the vehicle for over 3 weeks.they repaired the gas line easy enough but the brake line had to be completely replaced.

Parking brake does not hold anymore. This previously happened while the vehicle was under warranty and the dealership replaced the parking brake pads.it has happened again and upon inspection i found that the pads wear unevenly. Parking brake pads should not wear. This vehicle is equipped with a audible warning to prevent driving with parking brakes applied.

I own a 1999 gmc sierra 3 door truck. I was driving home when my brakes for some reason failed. I tried to use the emergency brake to stop the truck but it also failed. After pushing the truck home, i checked all the brakes and looked okay except for the rear right emergency brake lining. It was completely worn out to the metal. This was my first time using the emergency brake. Im not sure why the emergency brakegtt worn out if this was my first time using it.

While parking on a hill and withoutautomatic transmission. Appliedparking brake, and it didn't hold. Contacted dealer.

I have a 1999 new body style gmc sierra 3 door truck.i am the only owner and driver of the vehicle.i attempted to use the emergency brake in 02/2002 and it did not prevent the truck from rolling.i have never used the emergency brake before to either stop the truck or hold it in place against a load.i took the truck in for other unrelated factory recall notices.i had the emergency brake checked.both rear brake shoe where worn completely out and the drum on one side was beyond recovery.i had to buy new shoes and replace one rotor (approximately $450).again, i have never used the emergency brake to stop the vehicle or hold it in place against a load.it has not been used.this is a serious safety problem.i talked to a gmc mechanic and several truck owners and they have had the same problem.the mechanic said he has replaced several emergency brake systems with the owner stating the same thing i have concerning usage. Some of these vehicles had less than 30k miles on them.my brother has a 2000 chev. Truck and the same problem.a brake specialty repair center told him the same thing the gmc mechanic told me.the emergency brake system has a serious design flaw.it wears out without warning to the owner.i wrote gmc customer service and they dismissed my concern without firm explanation after several letters.please investigate this concern.i do not think this is an isolated occurance.

While applyingbrakes pedal goes all the way to the floor.also, has to resatemergency brake in order to work. Dealership is aware of the problem.

Today while trying to park my truck, i pulled into a parking spot and was going to back up, when i heard a whirring noise. I put the truck back in neutral, noise was gone, back in reverse noise has returned. No reverse. I abandoned parking and drove home. I had all forward gears. When i returned home, i put the truck in park..... No park the truck rolled ahead and almost hit another vehicle. Called gmc, was told to take to dealer. Service manager said the problem was the reaction sun gear and shell internal in transmission. Very common problem. This is more than just a failed transmission, its a safetyissue with no park in transmission. Gmc basically told me i am s.o.l., and would not acknowledge the problem with no park and that safety issue.

Truck jammed on brakes and shifted into reverse with no warning due to the ecm (brain) malfunctioning.please describe details.

Rear end vibrates due to misalignment of drive shaft to axle.can't figure out why tranmission shifts hard.tried replacing seat belt to fix tightening on bump.

Abs system fails on panic stops. Suddenly applied pedal presseur locks brake pedal and provides little or no braking for approximately 1 second.i have been told by the dealership's service department that this is typical of all abs and that i need to train myself not to jam the brakes in an emergency.vehicle was in shop in dec. 1999 for transmission repair and brakes were supposed to be checked.no check was noted on repair order, but service manager assured me that the mechanic had test driven the vehicle and it was ok.this problem seems to be a result of abs pump overreacting to suddenly applied pedal pressure and locking the pedal with back pressure before braking actually starts.i feel that the brakes should at least chirp the tires first.currently vehicle is under repair from accident, but it will be taken to another dealership upon completion of this repair.

While attempting a three point turn across a road the automatic transmission began grinding after putting the vechile in reverse.i was in the lane facing oncoming traffic when this occurred.the reverse gear no longer functioned.fortunetly there was no oncoming traffic and i was able to put the vechile in drive and straighten it out, getting back to the parking lane.the vecile only has 49,000 miles.in the research i have done on the problem so far i have discovered that the automatic transmission failing is a common problem.for example, a man named chuck who works at all-world transmission (262-547-0136) says these vechiles come in all the time with the same trasnmission problem.gmc claims it is a not a safety issue and will not issue a recall.i beg to differ.i had my wife and 5 month old daughter in the truck.if there had been a car coming, i might have been in trouble.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

When accelerating fast, must let off of throttle so transmission will shift from 1-2, and 3-4 gears. All fluid and filter were changed, problem not fixed.

Transmission hesitates badly to shift 2-3, when cold out

Truck was drove about 300 miles at highway speed , shut off for 1 hour and drove thru town , stopped at a red light ,proceeded to take off when light turned green, engine reved up but the truck just sat there and did not move.,i verified truck was in drive snd shifted thru the gears d,3,2,1,2,3,d,n,r,p,r,n ,d engine reved but truck would not move. I turned off engine and restarted ,put it in gear engine reved then the truck started to move as if everything was normal. Truck now has 13k miles and the problem has not repeated, bet i have heard of several other 1999 & 2000 chevy and gmc trucks with the same problem.i beleve this could be a serious defect that could cause injury to occupants or others.

When attempting to pass another vehicle on an incline at speeds of 55mph to 65mph the transmission shifts into second gear and revs the engine up to 4500 rpms and doesn't increase the speed because it is running at its peak speed in second gear causing me to have to let up on the accelerator and try to get back behind the vehicle i was trying to pass.this same downshifting also occurs when using the cruise control.the dealer did not want to test drive the vehicle on a similarly inclined road to duplicate the problem because he didn't have another vehicle like mine to compare it to.the defect in this transmission could easily put me in a head accident situation and needs to be addressed immediately.

While driving about 25 mph with an automatic transmissiongear won't shift between speeds.

Main complaint is transmission. Took vehicle in at 6000 miles and told dealer about downshifting problem and major clunkor bumping noise after downshifting after starting from near stop. Also reported hard shifting. Dealer reports scan ecm systemno trans codes and roadtested results show operating as designed. Door lock bezels falling off. Dealer replaced. This was 10/20/99. Took vehicle back in with 17102 miles on may 5/2000. Complained of rattle in pass. Door. Was reported that rear seat belt holder not fastened. Replaced guide and cover for safety belt. Rattle in pass. Door showed regulator loose from door skin. Tightened and aligned . Ask for check in noise in driver's window, going down, results were operating as designed. Ck. Bump in rear on accl. Results on checking drive train: operating as designed. Condition normal. Ck. Brakes acts as if don't want to stop times. Results were operating as designed. Still not happy with brakes! right tire found to be not round. Replaced. Taken to dealer on nov. 8/2000. Accl. Sticking at top position. Throttle body sticking and replaced per bulletin[which i never recieved] . Had labels placed on vehocle about caliperwhen replacind disc brakes on vehicle. Check trans. Downshifts after coming to stop then accl. Makes tripple bump and hard shifts. Scan system found no codes: operating as designed. Trans. Still not right or shifting right and bumping! door lock bezels falling out. Checked bezela and aligned. Owner reported sounds like only one horn functioning. Low volume results showed horn operating as designed. Not happy, they seem to think i'm stupid. Repeat complaints all ignored except horn. It was fixed!dec. 8/2000tran.

Gmc sierra has been in shop to many times to keep track of. Truck also has a problem with sticky throttle body which has been dangerous.gmc gave extended warranty in 2000 bacause of problems also issued customer appreciation certificate if i wanted to buy new gm product.service manager told me to cut my losses and but a new one.gmc will not do a thing for me. Contacted nys attn. General about problems.gmc now has their legal core calling me at home . I have asked them to buy vehicle back research the parts and assembly to protect other owners. Gmc says sorry . I asked them how they could warranty rust thru for 100,000 but could not protect abs from corrosion, gmc response was hey you live in new york state. And they are under no financial obligation what so ever

Transmission - harsh upshift 2-3 & 3-4, been at dealers 3 times to no avail.

Dt: 1999 gmc sierra 1500.while driving the truck for about 45 minutes to an hour and if stoppingat a stop sign or red light the truck will not shift from first gear to second gear properly.once the truck does shift it is a very hard shift, andifon wet or slippery surfaces the truck will squall the tire. This started around 60, 000 miles.this does not happen every time, it is hit or miss. While pullingacross three lanes of traffic the truck shifted properly and was almost hit by on coming cars.took vehicle to the dealership, and they said it was the transmission.it was a common problem with gmc trucks.there is a kit that is made to fix this problem, buttransmissionmust be replaced and the repair costis between $700 - $1,800. This happens 4 to 5 times a week.

I complained to gmc directly about abs failure and reported it to atty. Gen of nys.i was told its normal wear in states with salt, funny that the paint is good to this day

Transmission did not start in 1st gear after complete, resting stop. Potential issue of not being able to avoid imminent danger in traffic due to lack of power.

While driving 55 mphe entirevehicle severly vibrates. Also transmission shifts. Cause unknown.please give any further details.

Periodically transmission would skip a gear, causingengine to overrise. Please provide addt'nl information.

Went to dealership talk about techical service bulliten #86-74-03 clunk upon acceleration(replace transfer case fluid). Dealer changed transfer case fluid, but glunk noise is still there.the service bulletin states cause maybe to slip-stick condition between the rear propeller shaft slip yoke and the transfer case output shaft. The correction, drain the transfer case fluid and refill with fluid.this fluid contains a friction modifier thar should eliminate the slip-stick condtion. I feel that this service bulliten procedure did not correct the cluck problem. I said, to the technical manager that there is excess backlash between the crown-wheel and pinion in the diff. Pull it out and adjust it, as it will shorten the lfe of diff. He stated that there is no room to adjust it. I have a 1992 model that makes a clunk noise. I think my ujoints are being effected because of the backlash. I place my truck in drive then reverse i get a slight clunk feeling. Iam not a expert, but i don't think the tsb really corrects the clunk.

Tires wear out exceptionally fast. Dealership authorized replacement of 4 tires in march 2000. At this time, the truck had approx. 16,500 miles. They were replaced due to extreme wear and numerous bulges. About 3 weeks after having these 4 tires replaced, while driving at approx. 20 mph to make a turn, a tire blew. The tire separated from the rim on both edges and was just centered, hanging loosely from the rim, totally deflated. I went ahead and pulled into a station about 20 yards away, where i jacked the truck up and was able to center the tire on the wheel & reinflate it. The tire held pressure & i was able to finish errands & then go to goodyear. At this time, goodyear tells me i hit a nail. They plugged the tire, but told me i needed to take the truck back to dealership as my new tires, with less than 1000 miles, were badly worn and should be replaced. The dealership tells me to return to goodyear for adjustment. I feel there is a problem, don't know if it is the tires or the truck?? when the tire came loose, i bumped the curb & sustained about $1000 of damage, rear axle, bearings, rotor etc. How can a tire totally seperate from the rim & then be reinflated without repair? why do the tires on this truck keep wearing out? encountered another customer today at hudiburg with a similar problm. They were replacing 2 tires for him after replacing all 5 tires previously. Wish they were as considerate in my case, instead of sending me back to deal with goodyear myself!! here i sit with a 1999 sierra which needs new tires..there has to be a reason why they wear out so rapidly??why would a tire seperate from the rim/ then be able to be reinflated without repair??( dot number: pd3ddawr27 tire size: 23575r16 )

Rear end vibrates due to misalignment of drive shaft to axle.can't figure out why tranmission shifts hard.tried replacing seat belt to fix tightening on bump.

Vehicle makes noise when making turns due to faulty front axle grease seals.nlm

Ever since consumer has ownedthis vehiclewith 48,000 miles on it at time of purchase, throttle would stick when pushing down onaccelerator pedal.this defect occurred mostly during low speeds, approximately 2 to 3 times a week.dealership was examining wheel bearings. Dealer stated thatthrottle body needed to be replaced.

Front axle grease seal failed causing noise when making left turns, dealer replaced seal yet the vehicle continues to make noise.nlm

I have been trying to get this problem fixed since november of 1999 without any success, if you could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. No afety defect stated in summary.

There was a clunk in the driveline.nlm

The rear rotors u-joint, carbon build up on throttle, replaced window motor uses 2 qts of oil every 400 to 500 miles , transmission uses 1 qt of oil every 20000 miles , air conditioner fan does not work on high i believe the throttle build up is a safety issue with the gas petal sticking. We have a lemon

The power steering pump driveshaft broke, causing loss of steering & loss of power assisted brakes while towing a 2 horse trailer . On this size vehicle it is extremely difficult to steer or stop even at slow speed.this is the second time this has happened. The first was 09/10/2000, also pulling a two horse trailer.the service manager has told me they have had to replace several of these pumps because of the shaft breaking.the pump assembly # is e9050. If this were to happen at highway speed the results could be catastrophic.there is no indication or warning that this has happened untill you try to steer or stop.in an emergency that may be to late.

Throttle body sticks while driving. Had built up dirt andvarnish. This caused vehicle to lunge forward when pressing on pedal.drivetrain makes a clunking noise due to a lack of lubrication. This can causeteeth not to mesh correctly

Would be driving and removing foot from gas pedal for a short while. Would then depress on gas pedal, and it made a loud metallic bang. Would sound like metal against metal. Took to dealer & mechanic lubricateddriveshaft. Was working fine until leaving dealership. Have been in to dealer ten times for problem , and it's not resolved.

While driving at approximately 30 mph accelerated after a stop light when rear ended by a vehicle traveling at 50 mph. Air bags did not deploy, and driver's seat belt did not restrain consumer. Consumer states that seat belt locked on second impact from car from behind.

Driver'sand passenger's seat belts squeak when seat belts go in and out of the retractor. Also, seat belts are too sensitive.consumer has to move very slowly to avoid seat belts locking in place.

The driver side seat belt works properly and restrains driver during quick stops.the passenger side seat belt catch mechanism has never restrained the passenger during quick stops and the passenger lunges foreward each and every time.noticing this problem i intentionally attempted to make the seat belt catch by making numerous quick stops.the dealership told me that nothing was wrong because all the gmc trucks were like this on the passenger side and only restrained on impact.i was told that the reason for this was to make it easy to install a child car carrier.does this sound reasonable to you.i thought seat belts should operate the same regardless of which side of the vehicle.

Consumer contacted dealer in reference to manufacturer's recall g00045s regarding shoulder seat belts.nhtsa recall number not available.dealer refused to schedule an appointment. Please provide any further details.

Drivers shoulder belt locks up and driver cannot move, belt tightens also when hitting bumps etc.

1-seat adjustment2-seat will not lock in position-slides freely front to back3-temporarily locked failed piece into usable position-cannot adjust to any other position due to failed plastic block.researched complaints for 99 gmc sierra truck and found 10 existing identical failures.these are complaints-566049, 758819, 855016, 862903, 877718, 10020665, 10022698, 10066125, 10074822.i am sure there will be additional complaints under "mirror" vehicles such as chevrolet and cadilac and other years.i have identified the piece as a plastic block approximately1 inch wide by 2.5 inches long with a lever, spring and pin assembly.the "u" portion of this block fails causing the seat to slide freely creating a severe safety issue.this is clearly an unsafe and poor design.i have pieces of broken block for reference and will continue to escalate this as far as necessary for resolution from gm.

There is a bar that is at the base of the front drivers seat which comes out at the console. The barcut straight through the seat. The bar is very sharp, and the consumer was badly cut by the bar .

The drivers seat adjuster fails to hold the seat from sliding back and forth.i have manual bucket seats and have been told by gmc that there is no records of failures. This has been repaired 5 times by replacing the seat adjuster, all under warranty thus far, but i am concerned that this is a safety issue since if it fails while driving, it allows the driver to be moved forward when brakes are applied.

Son was driving 99 gmc sierra truck on i-20 in arlington, tx monday, may 26th when he braked to slow and the front driver seat suddenly lurched forward throwing him into the steering wheel causing him to lose control of the truck. He regained control of the vehicle but was almost rear ended by vehicle. Son and fiancee were unhurt and no damage was done. When they were able to pull over and investigate, the front driver seat would not lock in place. It would move forward and backward without locking into place. Son had to brace his foot against the dash to hold seat in place in able to drive the vehicle home. Serious injury could have been the result if control of the vehicle had been lost. Feel this is a manufacturers defect and serious injury could result if this happened to others or myself since i drive the same identical vehicle.

I have a 1999 gmc sierra extended cad truck the drivers seat adjustment made of plastic when it breaks the seat will not lock. The seat belt is attached to the seat so in the event of an accident all that is holding is flimsy plastic. I checked all the salvage yards in my area they said every truck that they have that has wrecked the plastic slide is broken.to me, my wife and my life are worth more than this plastic piece. Gm needs to recall and either fix this piece with metal or different seat tracks. My seat broke just adjusting it.

Consumer went to applybrakes and driver's seat slid forward becausebolt that catches seat ontracks broke. Dealer has inspected t vehicle.

I was having troublemovingthe drivers front seat forward or backwards, i left it in the foward position as i was driving along a city street ,i came up to a light and the seat anchorage became broken causing me to strick the steering wheel.i feel that if i hadbeen going faster then 25mph i would have gotten hurt worse. I had a factory defect on the front seat belts, which i had taken to the dealer ,i was adviced that the parts were not in and had to be ordered. This was back in november or so to the best of my recllaction. 2-28-2001 i called the gmc customer assistance office spoke with a gmc representative and declare my problem , i wanted this deficiency to be covered under warranty, and i was adviced that it was not. Now what good is the seat belt doing me when the seat will not stay ,i have been using my left foot for support against the brake release that is mounted on the side of the drivers door,it keeps me from going foward at slow speeds what is going to happen if a vehicle in front of me suddenly stops? what good is this type of safety seat belt ifthe seat will not stay stationary,if this happen to my vehicle i dont doubt it will happen to some one else and mybe they wont be so lucky.another safety feature that was installed be the manufacture is the antilock brakes, they are also not covered underan extended warranty like theemission system, i feel that the seat and antilock brakes should be more of a safety concern then the emission system.any information will be kindly appreciated thanks for your time.

While approaching a stop sign at approximately 20 mph, the driver side seat adjustment broke free and the seat slid forward.because of the anchorage of the seat belt being the seat itself, nothing held me back from contact with the steering wheel.fortunately this happened at a low rate of speed.i am in the process of seeking reimbursement for repair cost in the amount of $513.11 from gm who would not cover the repair because the vehicle is out of warranty.

While driving on flat surfacedriver's seat will fully recline back. Dealer notified.

Seat has failed twice it hard to drive when the seat moves all the time,

While driving my vehicle i was stopping and the brakes were shot. I had to push the pedal as hard as possible to the floor to get it to stop. Luckily i narrowly avoided an accident with the person in front of me. I took the truck to get looked at and the brake lines are leaking from the master cylinder to the abs unit. They are extremely rusted and they need to be replaced. The estimate was over $1000.

This is the continuing story of the unsafe braking system on my 1999 gmc truck. On 7/15/14 as i went to stop at a red light my brake pedal began to slow the truck and then the pedal travel almost to the floor, the red warning light came on and i had to use the emergency brake to stop. I was very close to home and managed to slowly make it safely back where i discovered, for the third time, that my brake line had rusted through. I had lost a pint of fluid and later found the leaking brake line. This will be the third time i have had to change the rusty brake lines on my truck. I realize my vehicle is old, but this has been a recurring problem for at least ten years. My 1976 pontiac firebird still has it's original brake lines that show no signs of rust. My gmc brake lines are completely rusted. I have spent more than $5000 on repairing the brakes on this vehicle since purchasing it new in 1999. I have had more than five very close close calls with assorted brake failures with the rusty brake lines, faulty abs sensors and defective wheel hubs. I am glad that i am writing this complaint and not my next of kin.

While on an errand there seemed to be a sudden, extreme decrease in braking ability.we were still able to stop with brake to the floor if we allowed plenty of time to do so, however, it felt very unsafe to drive.upon a mechanic's inspection it was determined that the group of brake lines from the abs to master cylinder were completely rusted through and needed to be replaced.the total cost of repairs was $684.95.

Total brake failure occurred while moving out of a parking slot. Pedal went to the floor; upon investigation found brake fluid pouring from left rear wheel area (could not determine actual location); suspect corroded steel brake line. Further investigation found evidence of fluid leakage in home driveway where parked overnight. This is 2nd brake line failure on this vehicle (1st was january 2012; replaced line but was advised by mechs that other lines were ok at the time, this is two brake failures in 7 months on this truck).

Was pulling into parking space, when i applied brakes to stop i heard a pop and brake pedal went to floor. Upon inspection i found a corroded left rear brake line had busted and i lost all fluid. When i inspected all the other brake lines they were also heavily corroded. I have had many older vehicles with over a hundred thousand miles and never had corroded brake lines.

Vehicle was being driven when brake line to rear axle ruptured causing an extreme loss of braking ability.vehicle was downshifted to assist braking to avoid an accident.inspection of the brake lines revealed severe corrosion of all brake lines with the rear brake line under the cab being compromised and leaking.

Coming back from the store then entering my drive way the brake pedal went to floor. Used emergency brake to stop. Looked under truck and saw brake fluid on ground.had to be towed in. Had to have brake lines replace. Heavy corrosion . Truck had bad rust problem. Cost,$883.00at 60,000 mi gas lines started to leak from corrosion. Had to be replaced on 10/09/2013. For $900.00the under carriage is badly rusted and looks it has 200,000mi instead of 60,000mi. Brake backing plates are almost rusted away. Had to replace rear calipers ,rotors, pads 2 times.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the brakes failed. As a result, the contact had to switch gears in order to stop the vehicle. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the brake line had fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 196,000.

Driving at 50 mph with my young daughter the drivers side metal brake line burst preventing us from stopping.upon inspection of the line it was heavily corroded.

The brake lines have suddenly blown out on two occasions, and had to be replaced. These occured during nornal highway driving, on about 6/29/06, and around 10/27/09. The undercarriage had not been exposed to corrosive conditions or significant off-road use. I recently heard that this may have been an all-to-frequent occurence in this vehicle.....and that there may have been (or will be) a recall, and hopefully some sort of reimbursement. Please advise.

During many occasions since i purchased the truck(new) ,the abs system would activate as i am applying the brakes and the truck is almost stopped: loud shudder, the truck would keep rollingeven after pressing hard on the brake pedal(at walking speed);it has been a rather scary experience all along as more than once ,i came close to hit other vehicles and my garage door and back wall.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the front brakes failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and was informed that the brake lines were rusted and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the brake lines should have been manufactured with stainless steel as opposed to mild steel. The vin, failure and current mileage were unavailable.

Front brake hose from frame to caliper rusted out and caused brake failure. When the issue was being looked at, noticed that the entire frame and all parts on the bottom of the truck were completely rusted like they were 100 years old. Appears there was no rust inhibitor included in any of the metal. All brake lines under body of the truck are so rusted that it is not safe to drive. Fuel line is also rusted. I feel that all of these issues are due to poor rust inhibitor used during manufacturing of the truck.

Driving down hill, approx speed of 45 mph, went toapply brakes when did heard pop noise and brake pedal went to the floor with no stopping. Pumped on brakes and geared down truck to slow down. Pulled over to side of road to notice that fluid was coming out of the body. Was able to get mirror and research and find the brake line had corroded with rust, and it has split.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, he attempted to applied the brakes but the pedal went to the floorboard and failed to stop the vehicle. The contact noticed brake fluid leaking underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The failure and current mileage was 158,000.

I just took my 99 gmc sierra 1500 to the local dealership because the brake pedal going all way to the floor after driving on a major highway and felt the softness in the brake pedal attempting to stop because of heavy traffic. The service tech found the brake line leaking due corrosion, the tech gave the worst case scenario which would be replacing all 4 calipers, brake hoses, and brake lines for over $3000.00.gm or nhtsa needs to issue a recall or something but someone gets kill. Lucky there has been no deaths because of sub quality parts used by gm.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked a bursting sound emitted when the brakes were depressed. The contact confirmed that there was corrosion on the brake line and a loss of brake fluid. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 137,000.

Brake fluid leaking all over bottom of truck spraying out i took to a mechanic and had 1000 dollar brake line job done got truck back and abs brakes worked like manual brakes had a sensor and 2 ball joints replaced im being ripped of from a gmc loyal customer i was i guess back to ford or toyota for my next new trucks i had warranty issues you cheap [xxx] wouldnt pay for a waterpump that was leaking only a 7 dollar gasket also had a transmission on my work van repair and then replaced after a month of run around.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Brake line burst while shifting from park to drive, resulting in loss of braking and slow speed crawl into garage door.on inspection, heavily corroded section of rear brake line underneath the drivers door on the inside of frame rail was split lengthwise and leaking large volume of brake fluid.

My vehicle was parked overnight with the emergency brake on. Sometime the next day i started up my truck and released the emergency brake, all seemed fine. I then released my foot from the brake pedal to proceed to back up. Gave the vehicle a little gas to do so, went to apply the brakes again and had them go all the way to the floor boards. In order to stop i had to allow the vehicle to hit into a telephone pole. No damage to either other than a scuff. This is not the first time this has happened. Underside of the vehicle is completely rusted and mechanic says all lines need replacing. Going to cost upwards of a $1000. This is a very common failure with this vehicle and something needs to be done to prevent loss of life!

I was driving and went to apply brakes for the stop sign ahead, and i had no brakes. Once i had the truck home i parked it. I determined that the brake lines had rusted through by having a piece of cardboard under the truck to locate the leaking brake fluid. I'm so lucky that i didn't have a camper on the truck and had gone on vacation to colorado, as i intended this to be my recreational vehicle for this purpose. I am haunted by the possible scenarios and crashes that could have occurred to me and my family. Wife, son, and two daughters. This needs to be addressed before other human beings end up seriously injured, traumatized, or death being very highly likely.so i have a near new truck sitting in the yard for nearly the past five years. My attempt to install after-market brake lines has been a failure. Gm should be responsible for this catastrophic failure. I know as time goes by other brake lines on these models will rust and fail. I will be here as a witness, and so will the truck as i have refused offers to sell it.

The brake lines in my 1999 gmc sierra blew out, and i was barely able to stop the truck before entering a busy highway from my driveway - the brake pedal went all the way to the floor, providing very little breaking power and taking a much longer time to stop and a much longer distance to stop than normal .i was informed that my brake lines had completely rusted out, needing full replacement, which i had done last week at considerable expense.it is unconscionable that gm knew about this problem and failed to inform owners of their vehicles to have their brake lines inspected!i have owned this truck since it was new, and my address has not changed since it was purchased, so my address is in their files.

While pulling out of my driveway i experienced complete brake failure. Looked under truck and brake fluid was everywhere and the brake lines were severely rusted and had busted. Looked it up and this appears to be a common problem with this model truck but there has never been a recall?! this issue needs to be addressed with gm.

Brake failure.after slowing or stopping at an intersection or pulling into a parking spot, and after releasing the brakes, at reapplication the brake does not respond.the pedal does not respond, no depression takes place -- it feels like a rock! -- and the truck does not stop.after repeated attempts, the brake will eventually respond, in the meantime it is a hazardous situation.

Has occuring ehaust leak, service wont fix. Using brakes while slowing and hitting bump in road, brakes will pulseate very hard and vechile will not stop

I have a 1999 gmc sierra (new body style) and have complained about the brakes since i bought it in 2002. What it is doing is the antilock brakes will go off anytime i apply the brake at slow speeds and hit a minor bump in the road making the antilock brake trip and lunges forward like i lost my brakes. I was involved in an accident last year were i rear ended a mini van in part i think it was lack of brakes due to the antilock brakes not functioning correctly. Two years ago during a small snow i was pulling into park at work and the antilock was tripped and forced me into a dumpster. The brakes are like a sponge it almost scares me at times. Thanks for being aware of the problems that gm is having with the brakes. I seen the report on the news so i thought i would tell my story, rick

The vehicles abs motor continued to run after the vehicle was turned off.ph

Abs and brake light are on. Had problem diagnosed by dealer and was told truck needed a new ebcm (electronic brake control module). Part alone is $800.00 plus tax and labor. Got on a gmc truck owners website and found many other owners with the same problem.

Abs module failed, causing pump to run continuously. Necessitated removing fuse on abs system which causes brake light & abs light to burn all the time. Dealer said my problem, not gm's. Truck has been dealer serviced at all requiredtimes.i would think a brake system failure, even if a redundent system, would pose a safety issue & repaired by gm. The abs system was standard equipment, not optional to the buyer.

Abs motor pump motor stuck on.must pull fuse to turn it off.this causes the brake indicator light to come on in addition to the abs light.state inspectoin is becoming more and more difficult to pass every year with the abs not working and the fuse pulled.feel that the replacement price is too expensive.

The ebcm (electronic brake control module) has failed on my 1999 gmc sierra.it has less than 40000 miles on it, and from information obtained online, this appears to be quite a commonplace event on these vehicles.the abs light comes on, and the pump will run even with the ignition key removed.

Continued problems with abs control module, up to and including brake failure. Gm is aware, but no recall has been made. This seems to be common with all 1999 1/2 and newer models. According to folsom lake gmc, the problem is common, but fix is offered other than $2000 in repairs at owners expense. This problem did not result in accident for me, but know of several that have occured due to brake failure.

Electronic brake control module failed and continued to run causing my battery to run down.after much research, it is apparent that this is a common occurance for 1999 -2003 gmc sierra's and chevrolet silverados.gm dealerships want nearly $800 to make this repair for a part that was defective in design and in quality.the ntsb and/or nhtsa should mandate that gm recall and correct the deficiencies in their product instead of simply issuing a service bulletin just one month prior to my warranty running out.

Customer states abs light on owner, also pump motor continues to run, replaced abs module

Anit-lock brakes come on when not needed i.e. When coming to a stop at low speeds.

The abs brake motor runs constantly. Therefore, we have pulled the fuse for the abs system.

While driving brake pedal has to be depressed down to the floor to get the vehicle to stop.dealer has replaced the anti lock brake control module and the master cylinder, but the problem still exists.

While driving the abs light come on and and stayed on. I heard a loud noise coming from underneath the driver side door. The noise continued after the vehicle was turned off and it wont stop. I pull out the abs fuse and the noise stoped. I took the truck to the dealer and he said what it was. The abs control module was shorted and the motor wont stop. It cost me $900.00 dollars to repair this problem after i talked out the service person, i think this is way to expensiveand to soon to failed, for what i have found out gmc needs to issue a recall on this system. Respectfully submited. Juan pinedo.

I started my truck up and heard a vibrating noise and the abs light came on.when i shut off my truck the noise continued.i unhooked the battery cable until i determined the problem was the electo-hydraulic control unit.i pulled the fuse and checked with my dealer.the service manager advised me that both parts of the unit (bpmv and ebcm) usually need to be replaced at a cost of approx. 1600.00 for parts alone.this truck has only 42,000 miles on it.i also changed the brake fluid at 30,000 milesin order to avoid this problem.i consider the replacement cost for these parts to be outrageous. The fuse can be left out and the vehicle can be driven without the anti-lock feature working.i consider this a safety defect because very few people will pay this price to have the anti-locking feature restored.in addition, the abs and brake warning light come on and cannot be cleared when driven with the fuse pulled.this can cause a driver to miss other problems that would be indicated by the brake warning light.

I complained to gmc directly about abs failure and reported it to atty. Gen of nys.i was told its normal wear in states with salt, funny that the paint is good to this day

Abs ebcm failed and continues to run with ignition off.

1999 gmc sierra 4x2, auto, short bed.the abs motor came on an stayed on. I could not get the motor to shut down until i either pulled the abs fuse, or disconnected the motor under the truck.i have talked to the local dealrer and he has had several issues like this as well as many that are doucumented on the nhtsa website.due to the numerous complaints and sefverity of this issue i think that gmc needs to issue a recall on this system. Respectfully submitted, gary easley

Trouble with rotors-8000 miles & rear brakes started to hang up & lock up.8400 miles rotors were replaced - 29100 miles all four rotors had to be replaced again.original factory brakes had 50% lining left - rotors were badly scored and chewed up - rotors over heated and delaminate-they are of very poor quality.

I sent this info to gm customer service and they told me the problem was because i live in ohio where salt is used on the roads in the winter.i did not bother trying to debate this silly response, i am just forwarding same info to your department. I am the original owner of a (gmc sierra z-71, 4x4 which has always been garaged and only has 66,000 miles. While replacing a failed right rear brake caliper, i noticed the brake shield was extremely rusty.during this inspection an approximately 4 inche piece broke off in my hand (see pictures).i perform most repairs myself but since this involved removing the axle it was beyond my capability.the cost of this repair at bob ross gmc was $222.00 which i paid.i am writing gmc because i do not believe a part such as this brake shield should rust so bad as to fall apart and have rusted through holes (see attached photo) in only 6years.i have inspected the driver's side rear brake shield and although not quite as bad as the passenger side rear brake shield, it is extremely rusty and probably will fail and need replaced in the next year.my position is this is a material design flaw that gm should investigate. Failure of this part, as in my case, will allow the elements (water, snow, dirt, rocks, etc.) to damage the brake rotor and ultimately cause premature brake wear and failure.the brake shields on the front brakes have no rust, as i would expect of a vehicle that is only 6 years old.i can send pictures of failed part but not sure how to do with this form.

Was applying brake when all the sudden brake pedal went to the floor and lost alot of braking power almost could not stop if not for emergency brake truck has only been in salt 3-4 times i have owned it since 2002 and it had 40k miles on it when i bought it now has 84k and brake lines are rusted off it i am planning to replace them with quality parts. But something needs to be done before someone gets hurt, even in salt belt of the country a brake line should not rust to the point of bursting with 84k miles on vehicle shame on you gm for using low grade line on such important system.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while attempting to a stop, he applied pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal depressed to the floor. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, where they diagnosed that the brake lines were corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Six months later, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 68,000.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. While traveling 20 mph, the contact applied the brakes but they would not engage; the pedal extended to the floorboard. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake lines had been cut due to the design of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. Started vehicle and depressed brake pedal. Pedal went straight to the floor. Upon investigation one of the solid brake lines had ruptured causing a loss of brake fluid. There was no warning or indication associated with the brake failure it just suddenly failed. Fortunately the vehicle was not moving at the time or it would have almost certainly caused a dangerous situation or accident. The cause of the brake line failure was due to rust andall solid brake lines were found to be severely corroded and needed to be replaced.

When brakes applied in panic stop, pedal goes to floor.this allows inadvertant contact with accelerator most of the times i tried to duplicate this after the accident using right foot to brake.precise placement of right foot is necessary for me to prevent this( i have to look down at my foot to get it where it won't hit the accelerator in this situation).measurements made indicate that when the brake pedal bottoms out due to the panic stop it travels about 1/2" past the accelerator, allowing contact with it if your feet are big like mine.the brake pedal will not travel far enough to allow this to happen during normal braking.this is a followup to odi#744510.i just got my truck out of the shop yesterday and duplicated the braking problems of the accident.i measured distance that i had to stop at about 200 ft.during the accident at 40 mph initial speed, i did not stop and hit stopped vehicle at about 10 mph while applying full pedal pressure with right foot.

I believe there is a problem with this module.i have talked to service managers at 3 different locations and they have all said that the problem exist on these models.they have seen it on trucks with low mileage also.one of the service manager said that he believes there should be a recall on them.i have a hard time believing if you can call any dealership and tell them the problem i'm having they will all say it is a relay inside the module that has gone bad and the module must be replaced at $1000.; therefore, there must be a problem with these modules shorting out.also, everyday i pass up1999 and 2000 models trucks like mine and see one of the running lights out. I have personally repaced mine twice and it is out again, too me that,s a problem also. I hope to hear back from you soon.

When applying brakes to make a slow stop vehicle will not stop wihtin last 10 feet of driving ,and at the same time there is clicking, ratching noise undereneath hood on driver's side that lasted 10 feet. Vehicle actually travels 15 feet before vehicle will stop.

The abs brakes on my 1999 gmc sierra will randomly come on when stopping at about 5 - 10 mph.i have to release the brake and reapply in order to get the truck to stop.i have found numerous other gmc sierra owners have the exact same problem.as recommended by the other owners, i disabled my abs by removing the fuse that controls the abs unit.

Experienced many occurrences of brake problems to which dealer could not diagnose.at 49,000 miles, dealer informed that right wheel hub/abs unit faulty.replaced at $387 cost.vehicle currently has 62,000 miles.abs pump ran continously until disconnected.dealer informedecbm failure.estimated cost to fix $800. Declined repairs due to cost.gm definitely has a quality problem.

Abs brake motor keeps running andsystem keep working as though foot was on brakes and vehicle sliding. Also, had to take fuse out to stop abs motor from running. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated what it will cost tofix.

(1) recall on wheel speed sensor causing increased stopping distances. (2) due to wheel speed sensor causing unwanted abs activation, the abs module turned defective. As a result, the module needed replacing due to over activation. A low speed crash occurred due to not being able to stop. (3) during the recall campaign, the manufacturer refused to relate the crash or the faulty abs module to the wheel speed sensor. They estimated repairs in the thousands of dollar range. They refused to fix the malfunction. I do not have abs on my vehicle at this time.

1999 gmc sierra vin [xxx] - anti lock braking system is activating when braking at low speeds causing the vehicle to not stop properly - gm has a recall on this - 05068 - but they say that our vehicle id number is not included that it is a new recall and to wait to see if that changes - to date there have been no accidents or injuries but we were lucky.07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Consumer applied horn while driving and horn failedwhile abs light came on. Dealer determined that horn had shorted out, causingabs circuit board to fail.

While driving over bumps braking system malfunctioned, causingbrake pedal to push upward. There wasno braking ability which caused a crash.dealer was aware of the problem, but could not determine how to fix the problem.please provide further information.

While driving abs light would come on, and thenbrakes would go to standard brakes.abs pump would fail to work.this does not prevent vehicle from skidding.an independent mechanic checkedbrakes out.please describe details.

Dt:the contact statedthe abs motor went out two years ago.he contacted the dealership, and they could not do anything until he receiveda recall letter for the problem.he contacted the manufacturer twice, was told thewarrantyexpired, and there was no recalls on the abs.he tookvehicle to the nearest garage to have the abs disconnected.he has been driving the vehicle without abs for two years. Updated 11/29/2005 -

Dt: the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign05v379000 concerning anti lock brakes.this vehicle is experiencing the same problemsas indicated in the recall, but is not included in the recall due to vin.the contact repaired the vehicle at his own expense.

Anti-lock brake failure.

When braking in an emergency situation brakeswork fine at first, but when it hittting an uneven surface, the brakes won't work.abs brakes come on at about 7mph oneven surface, and the tend fail to hold vehicle speeding up.

While driving abs light will stay on, and abs motor will make a loud clunking noise.

Dt: the contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500 4wd. He contacted gmc about nhtsarecall 05v379000 concerning abs brakes. Consumer' lived in maryland and his was not listed for the recallhe almost had an accident last week because of this problem with the wheel speed sensor.he almost ran into trailer because he had the brakes on, and at a certain speed, released them. He had to swerve to keep from hitting the trailer. When he let off of the brake pedal and pressed the brakes again it stopped the vehicle. The estimated speed at the time of this incident was under 10 mph. There where no injuries.

Major vibration at speeds over 60, also antilock brake failure or jumping --dealer was very receptive and still is but gm seems to be ignoring this problem.

My abs brake system failed completely.i called gm who still have not returned my calls.i contacted the gm dealer here in cheyenne.i was told this is a common problem with the 99 z71; however, there is no recall on this item.i was told theabs motor has gone out and the cost of the part is $700 with approximately $1500 in labor.i continued to question on since this gm dealer in cheyenne is replacing these abs brake motors so often, isn't this consistent with a defect?this is a hazard having your abs system go out in the ice.the gm dealer told me to contact gm to find out about replacing the part at no cost.again, i still have not received a call from them.my question is, if this is such a common problem in the 1999 sierra z71 why has this not been recalled?do we have to wait for a fatality to occur first?

Brake pedal depressed to floor with no braking action.dealer did not write up problem shortly after initial incident.after multiple incidents, vehicle taken to dealer and owner demanded investigation (may 25, 2001).dealer could not detect defect.

Abs module kept running after the vehicle was turned off, had to un-plug the abs motor now the abs and the brake lite stays on all the time. Need's to be a recall on this part after all the problems people are having with the important parts of a new trucks braking system. How many more will have to go out/fail before there is a recall on it, not many i hope.let down on the dependability of this new truck, my 1995 chevrolet was more dependable than this one. And it had 350,000 miles on it before it finall layed down!!!!

Dt: anti lock brakes fail at low speeds contact must use parking break and place truck in neutral in order to stop. This causes extended stopping distances. Almost crashed 4 times due to brake failure. Actually made contact with another vehicle but no damage occurred. No brake light warning came on. Problem progressed with time. 10 mph and under is the speed at which problem occurred. Vehicle was taken to dealer for repair on 4/11/05. Problem was fixed at a cost of $877.09.

When applying the brakes and trying to stop, brakes lock up. Consumerpresses the pedal hard, trying to stop vehicle.

Abs light came on found abs motor running after engine shut off.had to remove fuse to allow abs motor to quite running.found 22 incidents on your site alone.my father has same year/model of truck and experiencing same problem within days of mine.is gmc attempting to rectify problem?

Anti-lock brake computer failed at 67000 miles.the solid state device controlling the abs pump motor failed, locking the pump in a continuous running mode, even with ignition in the off position. Quoted repair is aproximately $1000.

Abs brakes wear excessively before it is time.

Dt:the caller said at speeds 3-10 mphthe anti lockbrakes would kick in, and the consumerwould not be able to stop the vehicle. She said there was a recall and she had the recall work done. Thecallerhad the hubs were replaced once less than two years ago at manufacturer's s expense. Dealer said the problem was in the hub and that was not covered by the recall. Manufacturer offered no help for free. She said her husband has had a close call with a wall. He stopped in time. She said the vehicle had to be put in park once to get vehicle to stop. The truck was returned to the dealer the day after the recallwork was performed to have the hubs replaced., which the dealer told her that was causingthe problem. Gm refused to pay for the hubs even though this was the cause of the documented problem in the recall. When the mechanic was pulling the vehicle into the shop, the brakes failed and he crashed. The bumper, the chrome on the grill, the fog light, and the piece below the bumper were damaged. The dealer says he will pay to fix the problem.

Dt: the contact owned a 1999 gmc sierra z71. There was a nhtsa investigation , pe05020. There were no abs brakes. Had to pull the fuse. Gm will not do anything to the vehicle because it was out of warranty. A gm mechanic told consumergm will not do anything about it, and told him to file a complaint with the nhtsa. Also said therewerenumerous peoplein with the same problem. The gm mechanic told consumer to leave the vehicle because of the abs system.the mechanic would not pull the fuse because of liability reasons so consumer figured out by himself which fuse to pull, and done it.

At 62000 milesabs light came on. Abs motor continued to run even when enginewas turned off.consumer had to pull the fuse off the vehicle to stop the abs motor running.dealer indicated nothingwas wrong with abs motor, it was still running even when the engine was turned off.

I had unwanted abs activity.abs would come on when coming to a stop at low speeds.nhtsa did recall #05v379000.work was done by dealer but problem persisted.the cost to repair was over $1,000.i pulled abs fuse.

Abs system failed to work.

Bad abs control module on 1999 gmc sierra.*mr *scthe consumer stated a recall was issued, however his vehicle was not included.

Driving under 15 mph applied the brakes, and there was some type of chattering noise coming from the brake pedal.pedal released, andwithin three to four seconds, and it was back to normal. *ml

Dt: contact stated while pulling over to a curb he pressed the brake pedal andit went all the way to the floor. Also, it was making a humming noise. He took the vehicle to the dealership to haverecall repairs done on the abs brakes, andthey found the anti lock:control unit/module( ebmc)busted. Repairs will be made at the contact'sexpense.the consumer was told it would cost900 to fix the problem completely. Updated 01/11/06.

Dt: the consumer stated the anti-lock pump went out on his1999 gmc sierra at 60,000 miles. The consumerhad it checked by a dealer.the consumercontacted gm, and they said it would be $3,000.00. The consumer has not had this fixed. The consumer was driving without the anti-lock brakes.

Abs brakes on 1999 gmc sierra failed to stop in an emergency situation.

Module in abs failed at 37000 miles - pump continues running while truck is running or off.

1. Antilock brakes activate at low speeds2. Being unable to stop it could lead to rear end collisions or car pedestrian accidents3.replaced 2 front end wheel speed sensors.

Dt*:the contact stated the abs engaged at 8mph and below.the stopping distance was increased as a result.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, concerning the abs.the vehicle has the same problem as indicated in the recall; however it is not included because of the vin.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection.

While driving, the abs light illuminated, consumer returned home and discovered that the abs motor was still running.consumer was informed by the dealership that this is a known problem and that the brake system will still perform however the abs probably would not.

After startingvehicle in cold weatherbrake lightcame on,and brakes locked up. Vehicle would not move.once vehicle got warmit still would not move. Please provide any further nformation.

Abs module failure.chevrolet replaced at a cost of $912.49 + tax.shouldn't fail at such low mileage.possible problem for many pick-ups.submitted due to safety related component and to aid, or assist in determining possible recall.thank you.

Dt:the contactreceived a recall05v379000 concerning abs brake failure. Repairwork was performed and the vehicle still had the braking problem.he took the vehicle back to the dealership, and they stated there was nothing further that could be done.he called gm, and they told him to take the vehicle back to the dealership.if the problem was not related to the recall, he would have to pay for it himself.he was going to take the vehicle to another dealership this evening.

The abs system vibrates at a low rate and vehicle will not slow down when applying constant pressure on brakes. There appears to be a 2 to 3 second delay between the time abs takes over and when you have come control over the braking of the vehicle. This time elapse causes you to use other means for avoiding an accident such as veering to the left or right to avoid contact during heavy braking. This problem will also occur if the rear drivetran loses contact with the road surface during light braking. The driver has to always be aware of the possibility of not being able to stop to be able to avoid an accident. The outside mirrors on this vehicle ices up completely during winter highway driving at highway speeds over 45 mph. The time it takes for the mirrors to ice up completely is usually less than 15 minutes from initial start.

Abs pump runs even with key off! only way to stop it is to pull fuse. Abs and brake warning lights stay on all the time. Did not initially notice the problem until i made a tire screeching panic stop. Dealership stated no recall.*nlm

When braking brakes feel spongy and braking distance has increased a lot.

Abs activated on dry road while stopping on a slight grade . This resulted in a loss of brakes as if a brake line failed. I shot forward about three feet then all four wheels locked up. After the accident the abs light came on so when i got home i had my mechanic check the codes. The abs control unit was bad but gave no indication until after the accident. The mechanic told me that this wasn't the first time he had someone with a99 - 02 gm truck in his shop with this same problem . For me this failure resulted in$5000.00 damage to my truck as well as damage tothe vehicle in front of me (which luckily we also own).i just got a recall notice today almost three months after the accident for the abs speed sensor that causes this same type of malfunction but what about the control unit on the frame rail ? in this case it also failed and costs almost $1000.00 just for the part alone before it is replaced. That's over $6000.00 by the time every thing is fixed.

Upon brake failure, the master cylinder on this vehicle has been repaired or replaced 4 times.the first failure occurred at 86 miles, 2nd at 2,729 miles, 3rd at 43,014 miles, and most recently at 57,270 miles.we are concerned for our safety in this vehiclefindingthe brake system faulty.

Anti-lock brakes activate during normal braking in non-emergency situations at speeds under 30mph. Brake pedal goes to the floor making a chattering noise and stopping distance is increased. This problem prevents the driver from stopping vehicle before stricking another vehicle or entering an intersection at the risk of causing an accident. This is not how a "normal" abs system operates and is a serious design flaw that gm needs to address before someone is needlessly injured or killed! i've had this truck for one month and i'm afraid to drive it now because of the faulty abs brake system. The drivetrain makes a groaning sound while in 4wd mode and the truck sometimes doesn't want to move without great effort even on dry pavement. This condition does not exist when 4wd is disengaged. The truck has manual 4wd with 4.10 rear end with automatic transmission. This problem is not related to the abs failure.

While driving 5 mph and applying brakes abs braking system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance. Abs system completely went out, resulting in two warning lights illuminating, abs system (motor) could not be shut down until battery cables were removed.

Consumer states that when trying to apply the anti lock brakes, they will lock up causing the vehicle to have extended stopping distance. Dealer notified. *ph

Anti lock brake system light came on.

Consumer stated that while driving and without warningabs failed. Dealer notified.

Dt*:the contact stated the abs activates at low speeds, below 10 mph. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and the abs sensor was replaced.a year later, the contact received a recall letter for the abs, #05v379000.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and the abs was cleaned.

Abs brake light illuminated and remained onindicating a malfunction within the system ,cause unknown.please give any further details.

Brake on my 1999 gmc truck fail causing me to hit a building. The problem has due to the abs system.

Placement of the abs control module (in the frame rail under the cab) subjects it to corrosion from road salt and other debris.gm knows about the problem and should fix it as it is a safety issue.

The anti-lock brake system failed, which caused the vehicle to experience extended stopping distance.

Case #05v379000 isn't including virginia residents? i had the abs pump? go out in my 1999 gmc sierra which messed up the rear rotors, had all replaced at dealer which cost in excess of $1000.... Will it include virginia or just stop in maryland?

While slowing on rough or bumpy roads brakes fail for 7 - 10 seconds. Dealer claims this is normal for the abs.

While pulling inside of the driveway and coasting along, engine just roared up andvehicle accelerated.vehicle jumped overlandscape timbers and hitbasement wall.also, front brakes locked up, butback wheels were still moving and in motion.

Dt:at slow speeds there is a clanking sound in the brakes, and can be felt in the brake pedal on the consumer'sfoot.this has been a problem since 2002. The vehicle has been in the repair shop 3 times for the same problem.the first time, the vehicle was involved in an accident in the parking lot.the owner was driving 5 mph or less and had no brake control, and the pedal was working against the driver.the owner took the vehicle back to the shop 2 more times for the same problem.gm, the manufacturer came and inspected the truck.gm would not allow the truck to be fixed by the dealership until they inspected it.the dealerships report stated that they replaced the right front hub bearing after testing and the found bearing caused unwanted abs operation during slow speeds.there were no injuries in the crash.*sc

On april 4, 2002 at 7:40 p.m., my abs panel light came on, while driving into my driveway at 3 miles per hour.when the abs panel light came on, there was a loud continuous buzzing sound, which never subsided or went off.i promptly took my gmc sierra t.

Gmc has finally acknowledged there is an issue in their abs dump valve module for the first year 1999 new style pickups. I have had my truck in 5 times with 25 seperatetotal losses of brakes when you apply them. The fluid bleeds down allowing the brake pedal to go to the floor with a groaning noise.they just replaced this component for the first time. It was expensive so they waited this long to fix it. This is a saftey issue for sure. There should be a recall.

The brakes have failed, i mean failed, no brakes on four different times. My truck is a death warrant waiting to be issued .dealership states there is no problem with it. On jan. 5, 2000 i went through a major intersection because i could not stop because of having no brakes. I pulled to the next parking lot, and caled dealer to come and get it. That this was the last time i would put myself nor my family in danger with this truck. They have picked this truck up 3 different times and have not fixed problem.

Abs light came on braking distance was then much longer than normal, abs motorthen would not stop even with key shut off . Service manager told me abs electronic control modual failed this type of fail leads me to think it is a design problem ,electronics are not mileage related and due not degrade.

I have owned this vehicle for about 18 months.shortly after buying the vehicle (certified), i took it to the dealer complaining of what i thought was unusual attributes of the abs system.i was told they could not find any problems.about one year later, in may of 2003, my abs problems became severe, in that at low speeds, such as turning into parking spaces or stopping at intersections, the abs would come on and stay on for 3-4 seconds, rendering the brakes useless for that time period.during this time period, this did result in my vehicle striking a chain link fence with no damage.to prevent this problem from occurring further, i pulled the abs fuse and took the vehicle to the dealer, after first complaining to gm.the dealer was very helpful, and diagnosed the problem as a faulty left front hub.gm and the dealer limited my cost to $100 on the $500 repair.this appeared to fix the problem, until recently.during the past several weeks, the problem has returned, and again rendered the truck very dangerous, and again i pulled the abs fuse and took it to the dealer.again, the dealer was very helpful, and diagnosed the problem this time as a faulty abs electronic brake control module.again, they offered compensation, but to a lesser degree.i paid $500 for the $1000 repair.it appears through my research on the internet, including the nhtsa site, that i am not the only one this has happened to.i believe this is a safety issue that is not limited to my vehicle.i am lucky in that i did not cause injury to myself or others in any of the many instances where this problem surfaced.i was very lucky a few times.*la

I have a 1999 4 wheel drive gmc sierra and i have had a lot of close calls with accidents, because the anti lock won't stop at low speeds. They replaced both front hub sensors and the problem still continues. They did it right after the warranty expired. I only have about 35k on my truck. All the rotors peeled and they just turned the rotors down. I later paid to have all new rotors and brakes on all 4 wheels replaced, but the anti lock brakes still activate and make it hard to stop at low speeds, almost causing a few accidents at times.

Contact states: he turned into his brothers' driveway, stepped on the brake and there were no brakes. He hit the rear end of his brothers' car, and did $600 damage to the car.*sb

1999 gmc sierra brakes failed at low speeds.*mrthe consumer had the abs disconnected.the consumer stated there was a defect in the rotation speed on the wheel sensors.

While braking on bumpy roadbrakes failed, pedal went to floor, vehicle went through intersection.

The abs system malfunctions when driving on gravel road or ice, but works fine on other kinds of roads.the malfunctioning of abs causes wheels to lock up resulting in extended stopping distance.the dealer could not determine the cause however, these abs brakes were not tested on these common driving conditions by the manufacturer.

I think the abs system should be recalled i've talked to several truck owners and the 1999 all are havingabs failure.the pumps keep running even after the trucks are shut off. I took it to the dealer in hanover and they said it would be over $1000.00. That i would be better off leaving the fuse out so much for abs.dt

Consumerexprienced problems with the abs brakes. It was extremely hard to maintain control when applying brakes.dealeracknowledged that the brake pedalseemed to go straight to the floor, and maintained that was the way the abs system intednded to operate.

Abs brakes failedwhich caused a crash.pedal went tothe floor when applying the brakes.problem was reported to the dealership. The vehicle has not been repaired.

Abs control unit module activated while driving ,causing abs valve to run continuously & burn up. Dealer stated that cause of failure was due to corrosion getting into module unit. Dealer replaced module, valve & bled brake system. Cost was $1090. Service manager stated that this was a recurring problem that gm knew about but no recall was issued to fix the problem at that time.according to nhtsa web site , gm has issued a recall for wheel sensors on this vehicle due to the same cause as the module failure; corrosion. The modules are located just below driver on the inside of the frame rail. How they expected to keep them from a corrosive environment ,i can't figure.it seems to me that if gm acknowledge a corrosion problem on one part of their abs system that they should do the same on the entire system. I also can't understand how they choose certain states as being in the "salt belt". We use it here in kansas too.

Dt: gm's abs system. The consumer had to disconnect the abs system in vehicle because of them continuously running. This had been disconnected for the past two years because with the abs system. The road and weather conditions were hard and salty.this is in maine. Consumerkeeps having adead battery, and back end has swung around because she can't use the abs system, because it has been disconnected. If the abs system was not disconnected the vehicle would have a dead battery. Consumer contacted gm, and filed complaint twice. They responded by saying "good luck". Consumer even suggested that gm send a new brake system by mail, and they would install personally. Consumer has not received a response.

Abs motor failed.contacted dealer and he said he thought there was a recall for that and he would look it up.caleed and said no, recall was nhtsa 00v055/gm recall # 00013, and this was for the 2000 sierras.he further explained that this was for a spring clip that might render the abs motor useless.i went ahead and had the abs motor replaced for $1087.34.i wrote to gm and asked for some type of compensation do to the low milage and the fact that the lease wasn't even up on the vehicle.they responded with a resounding "get lost".i contacted the dealer and through a mechanic, i found out that numerous of these motors have failed.i contacted a competitor dealer and was told that the failure of the abs motor was "not uncommon" but they would not give a figure.my question is to you, do you have the means to inquire how many of these motors have failed?also if the recall was for 2000 sierra's, with enough complaints, could that also include some other year models?the dealer has been unresponsive as to making any type of compensation.i feel the obsolescence of this part is much too soon, in my case 57,000 miles and 3 years of driving this vehicle.thank you.recall_id = 10178

Dt: the contact stated while drivingvehiclemadea jerking motion when stopping or slowing down .vehicle was taken to the dealership on 8-23-05. The dealership found the hub was defective.also, the front left side wheel sensor needed to be replaced.the consumer was told his vehicle was not a part of the recall. Updated 01/04/06.

Conpleat failure of abs brake system.

Dt:the abs system has been disfunctional for three years.contacted gm for the last two years. What happens when going 10 mph or less andapplying the brakes the vehicle will not stop. When this first started it happened intermittently. Now, it does it all the time. There was a recall but it did not include this vehicle due to vin.the consumercould feel the brake coming back when putting pressure on the brakes.it makes a sound. Had the abs system disconnected, this started happeningonnovember 15, 2000. Consumer stated gminformed himthey weredoingrecall repairs on brakesfor salt states.however, the consumertook this vehicle to the ocean, and for others who use the vehicles there.

Ongoing problem with applying brakes on rough or bumpy surface which causesed extendedstopping distance.also, a popping noise could be heard while applying brakes. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that it was a normal condition. Provide further details.

Dt:the consumer states he owns a 1999 gmc sierra pick-up truck. Sometime this past summer he heard a noise that sounded like a motor running. The dealership disconnected the motor so he would not hear the noise anymore. The consumer states that the abs light was on. The dealership told the consumer that there was a bad sensor motor. The dealership quoted him a price of approximately. $400.00 to fix it. The contact did not want to have this repaired at that time. He has since received a recall letter on the abs brakes on 10-18-05. The dealership repaired the recall prior to the contact receiving therecall;notice on 9-28-05. But refused to replace the sensor motor because it was not related to the recall.the contact was not sure if the two were related, but still wanted to file a complaint in the hope that he may be able to get this sensor replaced without charge or at cheaper price. Updated 11/29/05.

I own a 1999 gmc sierra pick up. The brakes will stop working during braking. This has occurred at various times. I have had the brakes checked. I have called the dealer about this. They told me there are no reported problems. After checking the web, i noticed that the problem i have is the same problems that have been recalled in canada on these same trucks. What can be done to correct this problem in the us? i have talked with other gmc owners ,same problems.

Abs system failure light on, pump motor runs with key in off position.

Brake modulevalve assembley motor will continuously stay on and will shut off.there is a recall onvehicle model/ make for that problem, but this vehicle wa snot included.

Abs pumps run continuosly even when vehicle is turned off, also abs light is illuminated whilepump is running.consumer unplugged wire to stop constant running, vehicle will stop when brakes are applied, but brake pedal feels softer than normal, dealer was contacted. Pump failed after attaching a boat trialer.consumer disconnected abs pump as instructed by dealer, however doing so illuminates the abs and brake light.

Motor on abs module will not shut off until fuse is pulled or unit unplugged.dealer said this was common and there should be a recall.

Consumer stated the anti-lock brake system failed.

1999 gmc sierra. Consumer states that when the brakes were applied the pedal did not move causing the vehicle to hit a parked vehicle. Mechanic replaced the abs control valve. *mcthe consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealership so the recall could be performed on dec 28, 2006, however he experienced a failure 1 month later. The consumer was informed that the front left sensor was damaged which was probably the cause of the control valve failure.

After getting home and turning offengine could still hearmotor running. Then, took vehicle to dealer.they said that defect was withabs module which they could not fix.

Dealer and gmc denied any defect in brakes and denied damage claim and brake repair.

Ebcm pump motor relay stuck open...caused pump to run continuously. Abs light came on. Car battery has to be disconnected to stop pump until part can be fixed.nlm

While making a left turn and applyingbrakes pedal went tofloor, causing extended stopping disatnce.please give any further details.

Dt:the contact stated the abs did not activate .there was nhtsa recall,campaign05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes.the vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall; however , it was not included in the recall due to the vin.the abs control module malfunctioned, causing tne abs system to fail. The contact wants gmc to expand their recall or pay for a new module.

Repeated abs brake failure.this has not been corrected despite numerous attempts to repair problem(s).heater motor malfunction, repeated wiper arm replacement, tailgate handle malfunction.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Abs motor would remain on after turning off vehicle. Dealer contacted.there was a recall issued in 1998 for this defect.consumer was pulling a 1994 airstream which caused the brake control on the trailer to quit operating.when approaching a red light, the trailer pushed the vehicle approximately 100 feet.if there had been an auto in front of the vehicle there would have been an accident.*jg

Abs module failed, causing a humming noise from beneath the vehicle, the noise did not stop when the engine was stopped and the key was removed.

When stopping on a bumpy road, or when stopping and hitting a bump, brakes pulsate, or actually push back. This makes it very hard to stop. I almost hit a pedestrian yesterday morming on the way to work. I was almost stopped, hit a small construction trench in teh road, and my braked failed. By the time i let off the brake, and reapplied them, i was inches away from hitting that person! i had this vehicle to the dealer for repairs for this, shoutly after buying it. I was told that there is nothing wrong with my brakes. When i have an accident, i will then filke suit againtjones pontica / gmc, and general motors. This is dangerous, and needs to be fixed.

Since 3000 miles, whenever brakes are applied in a sudden stop, it causesbrake pedal to go to the floor and vehicle to continue on without stopping. Vehicle been to the dealer on six occasion s,and was unable to locate thecause. Feel free to provide any further information.

When i started my truck i heard a humming noise and my abs and brake light was on. I turned off the truck and the humming noise continued. I looked under the truck and heard the abs module was still on. So i pulled the fuse to the abs system and and the module stopped running. I drove the truck to see if there were going to any problems and found there to be none other than the abs not engaging.so i drove the truck home and parked it hoping to get it to the dealer on monday. I checked online to see if anyone else has had this problem and i can see it is a pretty common problem. I was wondering if anyone had found out if this was a recall yet or if gm has decided to pick up the charge for this problem since it so consistent with these trucks or if someone may have a fix for the problem other than replacing the part because of the expense involved. If so please e-mail at [email protected] .

While pulling into a parking area brakes went to the floor and i had to slam into park to stop.this also happened again, and the vehicle ran over the parking stop.had to slam into park again after this, took vehicle to dealer, and they informedthat the abs sensor was corroded or bent.the cost was over $500.00.

The contact owns 1999 gmc sierra. While driving approximately 30 mph and proceeding to a complete stop, there was pressure applied to the brake pedal; followed by no power response. The vehicle continued straight through an intersection and failed to slow down. The driver was forced to shift gears into the "neutral" position with the emergency brake engaged to stop the vehicle.there were no injuries. The driver was able to resume normal operation. The failure occurred while driving 5 mph and below brake applications. An authorized technician repaired the vehicle according to the recall #05v379000, service brakes, hydraulic antilock ; however, the identical failure occurred on a separate occasion after the recall remedy was repaired. The earlier recall remedy was insufficient and did not address the defect. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 75,000.the current was mileage was 80,000.

While travel at any speed electric pumps from abs system runs. When consumer shut vehicleoff noticed pumpwas still running. Consumer would have to remove fuse to stop pump running. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further information.

While coming to a stop sign or to a red light or when slowing down, consumer stepped onbrake pedal and hit a bump. Pedal went all the way to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.

Abs brakes fail when you apply brakes when there is a bump in the road.i have had 14 failures in 2095 miles.the brake pedal drops down slightly and becomes solid, you can not push down anymore and the vehicle glides to a slow stop.it will not stop in an emergency in this case.the problem seems to be in the suspension and the abs brakes.the vehicle vibrates and does not recover fast when you go over a slight bump in the road.at highway speed the whole vehicle and steering wheel vibrates.the plastic hub nuts always come loose when driving.

Whenbrakes were applied pedal went to the floor, and vehicle kept rolling through an intersection.dealer has been contacted.

Dealer checked the abs system and said it was ok, but after the warranty was up the abs system went out.nlm

Vehicle was moving and had to place foot on brakes to stop.abs pump had malfunctioned and failed to stop vehicle right away. Had to unplug pump due to wearing out ofbattery. Do not have any abs braking features.

When vehicle was turned offheard a noise. Had it check out.anti lock brake sensor went out.

While applyingbrakes pedal goes all the way to the floor.also, has to resatemergency brake in order to work. Dealership is aware of the problem.

Anti-lock brake system failed, resulting in loss of anti-skid control.

The anti-lock brakes do not operate, making it difficult to stop the vehicleat various speeds. Manufacturer was contacted by owner.brake light and anti lock brake light came on in the dash board.the consumer stated that he heard a motor r unning underneath the vehicle.*tc

Ongoing problem with abs system failure. At 2,700 miles 1st incident occurred when applyingbrakes. Pedal kicked back up, causing momentary loss of brake 90-100 feet before stopping. Dealer notified, and made some repairs. At 28,000 miles, problem reoccurred, and caused a vehicle accident. Notified dealer again, and informed consumer that theywere unable to duplicate the problem.

Dt: the contact stated the abs module on1999 gmc sierra failed. He noticed this when the warning light came onthe dashboard. When he turned the vehicle off the pump in the abs module kept running. The dealer said this was not related to the current recall 05v379000 on the abs brakes. He found information on the nhtsa website that there were numerous complaints filed regarding t abs modulefailure and that it related to the current abs recall.

This morning as the vehicle was "turned on" and proceeded down our residence driveway, the abs light came on as well as a whirring sound emanating from the rear of the vehicle; stopped vehicle and turned it off/then on again; the whirring continued while engine was off and abs light came back on when vehicle was turned back on; drove to dealer who said the abs module needed to be replaced at a cost of approx. $1,000.they could not determine the cause of this problem; i called manufacturer who said it wasn't covered as the warranty expired at 36,000 miles;

On 10/23/01 i started my truck and reversed in my driveway, and mybrakes locked up.i put the truck into park and shut off the ignition.at that point i heard a humming from under the transmission.i disconnected the battery at that point and contacted s&k poniac in springfield, il, the local gmc dealer.i explained what had happened and the service manager knew exactly what it was, without even seeing the truck.i was advised my abs had failed and that repair would not be covered under warrenty.on 10/24/01 i contacted several service centers concerning repairing this problem and learned that this is becoming a common failure in this model/make of truck (chevy's also) at the approximate same mileage as i am at.the repair is extremely costly and because of the way the abs is intregrated into the vehicle it cannot be disconnected.i have discounted auto insurance because the abs is on this vehicle, standard practice in the insurance industry.i searched for a recall, or any information,. On gm's website but was unable to find anything related to the abs failure.i am concerned that this very imporant safety feature is failing in many of this make/model/year truck and that a recall should be done.the manufacturer must be held accountable for safety related features.i own a nissan and all safety features are covered for the life of the vehicle.

I was pulling into my driveway, applied the brakes to my 1999 gmc sierra 4x4 pickup truck, vin no. [xxx], and i could not stop and hit the rear end of my girlfriend's 2001 chevy blazer.i was advised to contact gm of the accident as there is a recall in canada (product safety bulletin [psb]- front wheel speed sensor corrosion #04094 dated january 25, 2005) for brake failure.gm representatives sent a fact finder to determine if the problem was the wheel sensor.the body damage repair estimate to my truck is $2,902.86 and $1,907.79 to the blazer.the estimates were faxed to gm and we were informed that the report indicated there was a problem but, since the damages were over $1,000.00 the case had to be referred to risk management.risk management stated the fact finders report did not indicate a problem which was contrary to what i was told previously.i requested a copy of the report and was denied as it is considered proprietary information.i informed risk management that a tsb had been issued which they claimed they were unaware of.risk management offered to pay 50% of the damages.i called the original contact person at gm and was told the report indicated that there was not a current diagnostic problem however, the history code shows that the left front wheel speed sensor was missing - dropped out of circuit - indicating that there has been past problems with the wheel sensor.since the accident i borrowed my mother's car and was asked to return it so, i drove my truck through a 40 mph zone, my hood flew open breaking the hinges.i have not had my truck or my girlfriend's blazer fixed as i am uncertain what to do.i feel it is wrong to request my insurance company to pay for damages that are clearly the fault of the manufacturer.in addition, if this type of incidentoccurs in a crowded area someone could get seriously hurt or killed.i ask for your assistance in resolving this issue for the safety of everyone.thank you.updated 07/19/2012 information redacted pursuant to

Tried to stop when someone about 50 feet in front of me stopped.the brake pedal went straight to the floor and there were no brakes.i ended up rear-ending the person because the brakes stopped working!!! we have had problems before with the abs almost making my husband go through stopsigns and such.we took the vehicle to the dealer and they "calibrated the abs tire size and ran the bleed and bleed system".obviously it didn't work because we have been in 2 accidents because the brakes quit working both times!

Abs unit started pumping and would not shut off and had to be replaced at my expense.

I have put brakes on this truck 4 times in 2 yearsrs. I dont feel that the brake system this truck was equipped with was large enough or strong enough for the size of the vehicle.

Anti locking braking ststemfailed, pump ran all the time.

Vehicle on slight decline and weather was snowy applied brakes and pedal failed to move downwards. Brake light came on, and went off when brakes started working. Took vehicle to dealer, and was informed nothing was wrong withbrakes.the brake pedal locks up and the vehicle slows down for about 100 ft before the brake starts working.

1999 gmc sierra pickup truck customer states that after getting car fixed due to a recall on brakes the next day the brakes stop working causing a accident**ccthe recall was performed on dec 28, 2006 and on january 3, 2007when the consumer applied the brakes, the pedal was extremely hard, the consumer was unable to stop the vehicle and consequently hit a parked vehicle. The next day the consumer took the vehicle to a mechanic who said the anti-lock brake valve had burned out. The mechanic stated there was damage to the front left sensor and wanted to know if anyone had been working on the abs sensors recently. The mechanic statedthat someone had pierced inside the sensor and damaged it, which was the probable cause of the control valve failure.

Dt: the vehicle is having abs problems sincevehicle was purchased. The abs light is on, when brakes are applied the abs kicks in, and consumer has to push on brake. Then there is a shaking. This results inextended stopping distance .driver has to repeatedly pushbrake in hard to get it to stop. One day the abs pump came on and stayed on.this cost $700.00 to replace. No codes were shown when taken to mechanic or dealership, they didn't know how to fix it. This occurs under 10 mph, in all driving conditions, andevery and with no warning.has happened more and more often as time has passed. The vehicle is not having other problems. Vehicle is regularly serviced. Consumerwill have vehiclerepaired at a local garage.

Being as mr. & mrs. [xxx] have no computer and i am the one that discovered the fault with their vehicle, i am submitting this form for them. I am a mechanic of 25yrs experience and i am the one that questionedtwo of the service writers at two gm dealerships plus mrs [xxx] was told by her dealership that he had 3 more vehicles with the same problem. My name is [xxx] ([xxx]). I am the transportation supervisor at mrs. [xxx] place of employment. My business # is [xxx]. The abs motor shorts out and continues to run untill unplugged or fuse is pulled. It gets extremely hot. It is mounted inside the left frame rail and fuel lines run just over it. The motor could catch on fire and melt fuel lines, resulting in a bad fire. In talking with 2 service writers and 2 different general motors dealerships, i have been informed of a total of 6 abs motor failures due to shorting out and running continuously after ignition is shut off.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Dt:the consumer complained about the abs brakes.the absengaged at low speeds.when the vehicle was slowing down to 4 or 5mph the brakes would not be present for four or five feet, then the brakes would grab.the abs had gotten worse in the past year.the vehicle had been to the dealership for repairs and they said that the abs module was burned out.the dealer wanted $1,000 to make the repairs.the consumer then took the vehicle to an independent repair shop and the abs brakes were disconnected.(11/21/05)*sc

Dt:the contact states there was problem with the abs activating at low speeds. There was nhtsarecall 05v379000)for this problem, but the manufacturer said that this vehicle was not included due to vin.the first time the problem occurred the dealership replaced the abs sensor.the problem recurred.

I have had ongoing problems with the brakes on this truck since i purchased it brand new. When i attempt to stop and rollover a small bump or hole in the road the brake pedal losses pressure and the pedal goes all the way to the floor. In california where i live, it is very hilly and i drive on hills on a daily basis, however i have had to adjust my normal driving and begin to brake 100-150 feet before coming to stop sign to protect my family. When the truck rolls over a small bump or hole, the vehicle will not stop and go right through the intersection. I have taken the vehicle to three (3) different local gmc dealers and they all said that this was normal abs brake operation. I told each of them that this was not normal braking operation. On june 11, 2001, my family and i went to the local supermarket. When i stopped the vehicle i heard what sounded like an electrical motor running underneath the truck. I drove the vehicle home and called for a next day appointment at the local gmc dealer. The next morning when i attempted to drive the vehicle to the dealer the truck would not start, the battery was dead. I called aaa and they came and jumped the dead battery and drove to the dealer repair shop. The dealer stated that the abs control had completely failed and replaced it. However, i still have the same braking problems i had prior to the dealer replacing the 4-wheel anti-lock brake control.

Consumer states that when pressing brake pedal, pedal will go to the floor and vehicle coasts to a stop. There was no indication that brakes were failing on the dash.took to dealer and there were no codes that indicated brake module was bad. Consumer is concerned that someone may get run over. Dealer found abs cab module was failing.

Both the brake and abs lights came on.per dealer the faulty piece causing lights to come on was the ebcm.the piece was on national back order, and would not be availalbe until 06/22.however,dealer did not assure the consumer that the brakes were totally safe.with faulty brakes, consumer has a fear of driving. Faulty brakes could cause an accident.

Abs control module failed. Module continued to run after vehicle was turned off. $1000 to repair. No recall inspite of numerous complaints to nhtsa.dt

While applying the brakes, the abs and brake lights would come on intermittently.the dealers mechanic stated that the abs brakes needed to be replaced.*sccthe abs failed as a result of abs switch failure. Abs motor stays running even with ignition key removed and engine off. The dealer quoted a price of$900. Dollars for repair. This seem to be quite common.*ph

Consumer stated the anti-lock brake system module was engaging unnecessarily while driving and continued to run when vehicle was turned off.consumer had to pull abs fuse to disengage, this resulted in loss of abs functionality.

Consumer staes when braking on rough pavements it causes extened stopping distance and a clicking sound can be heard. Dealer has not been able to duplicate or locate the problem. Feel free to provide any further information.

My 1999 gmc sierra developed, over the past four months complete failure of the brake rotors on all four wheels. The brakes pads did not fail but they caused a groove to form in all four brake rotors. Therotors are pitted, rusted and worn below minimun thicknesses on all four wheels. The brake rotors are flaking and chipping around the edges and display a groove that is more than 3/8" below the normal thickness of the rotor. The rotors appear on first glance to have come off of a truck that is very much older than three years. The sierra truck is also exibiting the same characteristics as the trucks mentioned in nhtsa campain id number 00v232008. When the truck is almost at a complete stop, the abs system activates and the vehicle shudders to a stop. The description in the above mentioned id number is the exact behaivior that promted me to take the truck to my mechanic, this truck was checked in april of 2002 and no brake problems were spotted. The repair job cost more than $700 to repair and my mechanic stated that he believes that the brake rotors should not have failed in this manner, that the type of failure that is indicated usually occures with worn brake pads, the brake pads in this case were not worn to the point of needing replacement.

Consumer states that abs motor is staying on after vehicle has been turned off, causing abs motor system to fail.

While driving stepped onbrake pedal and instead of slowing down abs sytem locked up.dealer was notified.

Brake warning lights intermittently activate while driving. Brakes appeared to be functional until occasion arose at 65 mph where hard breaking was required. Right rear tire locked up and severe tire wear resulted. Excessive slowing distance was experienced. Vehicle at non dealer repair shop parts will be available.

Abs brake light remains illuminated due to a malfunction within abs brake pump, which locks up whenbrakes are applied, also pump continues to run after vehicle has been turned off, dealer has been contacted.

When driving on a rough /bumpy pavement, the anti-lock braking system fails. It does not respond when the pedal is applied, but the vehicle will drive on smooth pavement, brakeswork fine.dealer has been contacted.

The location of the abs was exposed to debris, which caused corrosion and resulted in abs failure.the consumer had to unplugthe abs as a temporary fix to the problem. The dealership been notified.

Whenever the vehicle was coming to a stop or turning into a parking space the absfailed to operate. Vehiclewas taken to a repair shop on two separate occasions. First time, the mechanic cleaned the brake system and resurfaced both rear rotors. The second time the mechanic removed and cleans the abs sensors. On both occasions the problem recurred. The manufacturer was notified.

Dt*: the contact stated the abs activated at low speeds causing an increased stopping distance.due to the inability to stop at low speed, the vehicle gently tapped another vehicle in the rear bumper.no damage or injuries were sustained.the police were not contacted regarding this incident.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the anti-lock brakes.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.updated 02/21/06.

Nhtsa action # pe05020 - i submitted a complaint (odi id# 10120245) for my 99 gmc sierra truck last spring for the abs control module failure.you "closed" the investigation on 9/13, and gm issued a recall.the problem is that gm still charged me over $1000 for the replacement abs control module that failed, causing the loss of abs totally on my truck, per my complaint.i would not have been able to get my truck inspected in vt without the abs working so i had to pay up to gmc to replace the module.was this to be covered or not?if not, why?it seems that this abs module failure is a recurring theme for gm(c) trucks.please respond by e-mail.

Abs control module failed. While engine was not running the abs motor still was.not knowing about the $1,100 failure(quoted from a dealership) i left it alone for a short time while the 60 amp system sucked my battery dry in less than a half hour. After readings hundreds of forums and complaints, i believesomething needs to be done.i found the tsb (#220101 dated 04/06/01, anti lock brake motor running while engine off). So this "problem" has been identified but not corrected(ignored) in almost three years. A $1,100 problem!

The consumer stated anytime the vehicle came to a stop at an intersection, stop sign, light or uneven pavement, the anti-lock brakes engaged, which caused the brakes to momentarily fail.

In discussing this part failure with other owners it appears that this part fails at a high rate.the service department agrees that there is a significantly higer rate of failure in this part than is usual.i am requesting that you investigate these failures and would also like any information concerning the failure rate of this part and any information concerning accidnets caused by this part failure.

1999 gmc sierra abs motor stays on continuously.had to pull the fuse to stop it.the ebcm had to be replaced.the repair cost $1,105.00.the technician said he had seen it before and i see that many people have complained of the same issue on this site.the failure occurred at 46,775 miles which is also consistent with other data presented.gmc needs to do a recall and compensate us for the expensive repairs.

On 11-15-03 i had the electronic brake control module on my 1999 gmc sierra go out. Which i found out is a very common problem for these trucks around 80000 miles(mine about 81000) the repair was a total of about $1150.00.seven weeks later on 1-9-04 my truck is now in the shop for the same problem(ecbm) plus the abs pump and the dealer now says it will be another $950. It appears that a problem exists when so many people have the same malfunction at almost the same time.

Abs module went bad and caused the pump to run continously. I had to unplug the electrical connection to the pump to make it stop. I now do not have abs and the indicator light stays on. When i inquired about this obvious safety defect at the dealer, the repairs would be greater than $1000. At the time this occured, the truck had less than 50k miles on it.

I experienced a humming sound coming from my vehicle when the engine was not running.i went to a gm dealer to see what the problem was.the service tech said immediately that it was bad wiring in the abs motor causing it to run at all times.this was a repair that needed to be completed immediately because the motor was running off of my battery.the dealer said that he has seen a few of these vehicles with the same problem.i proceeded with the repair and spent about 900.00.this is not a recall, at least i am not aware of it, and should be investigated.

Brake problems/ failure of abs brake system on gmc truck: i just paid over $ 800 last fall to reputable mechanic who told me that all 4 wheelbrakes and rotors were gone at 35000 miles of normal on road driving. Now he and another goodservice garage tells me i have a bad brake module (at 39000miles) which is going to cost another $900 or so. Worst of all, research at your site seems to indicate that the brake systemhas never worked properly and willnever have the reliability that i paid ( and am re-paying ) for. The truck is out of normal warranty but i am looking at so called "secret warranties" and complaint sites so that i am well prepared when ivisit the dealer asap.i hope they are not as disappointing to me as gm is.

Like so many others, the abs control unit failed.truck was operating normally then the brakes were applied and the abs pump came on and stayed on, even after the engine was turned off.the fuse was removed to disable the system and shut the pump off.the abs system remains disabled after we found out what the repair costs.apparently this is a fairly common occurance as the internet is full of people with exactly the same problem and www.circuitsolutions.info seems to be doing a pretty good business repairing these modules.to me, this warrants an investigation and possible recall by gm.

Anti lock brake ecbm fails, abs motor stays on all the time, loss of antilock function, loss of proportional braking to rear wheels. Anti-lock brake system defective; still not repaired

Abs light is on, took the truck to the garage, said it needed a new ecbm, 700.00very car and truck on the road has a problem, now, why shouldn`t the manufactures, be responsible for there mistakes, we pay enough for there mistakes.

Anti lock brake light on and anti lock brake pump will not shut off.

I started up my 1999 gmc sierra one morning last spring to go to work and when pulling out of the driveway a loud noise started coming from under the cab and the abs light came on. I had it checked out by an independent garage who found it to be the ebcm. The truck had less than 45000 miles on it and had never been off road so it hadn't been mistreated. The module has stayed on and the abs light is on always. I tried to get gm to own up to the faulty part but they refused. I think it is shameful that gm puts low quality electronic parts in their vehicles, and charges so much for the parts. The ebcm costs over 900 dollars which is a lot of money. When you pay over 30,000 for a truck you expect it to last a long time. But gm is not interested in making quality anymore. Gm told me that this was a very uncommon problem, wrong, on the web i found many people have had the same problem and in fact there is a rebuild kit for them.i also had my 4wd control module go out at 140 dollars just to replace a push button.

Anti lock brake control module shorted out requiring stopping on busy road and removing a high amperage fuse from road side of vehicle, and loss of anti lock brake capacity.vehicle has only 34000 miles.

I have a 1999 gmc sierra half-ton pickup truck with only 29k miles.last week, on my way to work early in the morning, my abs pump activated, unable to shut off even with ignition turned off.local garage had to pull power to shut off.subsequent gm inspection resulted in being told the abs control module was corroded and needed to be replaced at a cost of nearly $1000 dollars, much more if the pump was damaged also.i now have only normal,no abs, brakes.and both abs and brake lights are on in dash.this is a known defect and since canada has recalled for this problem the us should too.most of us will drive with only std brakes because we cannot afford to pay out a thousand bucks for fixing something that should never have happened in the 1st place.and this is a safety issue here in snow country.

Abs faulty, replaced, now actuates when it shouldnt

While applying brakes there is a loud ticking noise coming from underneath vehicle. Dealership is aware ofproblem.i

Brakes are not working properly. When applying brakes the vehicle will not slow down.thenconsumer has to press the brakes all the way to the floor. Contacted dealer.

Brakes make noise and pull/vibrate when applied, the rotors and pads replaced however the system still experiences problems.*mjs

Brakes failed due to contamination and sever wear causing vehicle accident and injury.*mjs

Vehicle vibrates whenbrakes are applied at any speed.consumer'smechanic found that front and rear brakes were rusted.dealer statedbrakeswere normal.

On four separate occasions my 1999 gmc sierra had problems braking cause close collisions. When pressing on brake at low speeds to come to a stop brake pedal was hard to press down. Seemed like brake booster went out. Had to apply extream amount of pressure on the brake to avoid collision. Had vehicle checked out by certified mechanic which found nothing after hooking up diagnostics test and also manually checking out brakes. Found nothing on computer to say why brakes failed. If anyone knows why this is please email me at [email protected] luckly there has been no collisions.

Abs brake problems: when going over a bump and applyingbrakes, they chatter and become mushy. This extendsstopping distance which may cause a crash.this mostly happens first thing in the morning.truck has been to the dealership numerous times. Dealership stated that this was a normal condition. Front disc brakes have been replaced, but there still was a problem with the brakes. This has been an ongoing problem for over a year.

Rear disc brakes shiimmy very badly when braking.

Both rear rotors are badly rusted. Dealer will repair at consumer's expense of $714.00.vehicle had only 19,000 miles .

Consumer states that brake rotors are wearing. When applying the brakes the vehicle will have a heavy vibration and extended stopping distance. Dealer notified. *ph

Metal is flaking off the wear surface of the rotors. The pads are not worn.

Consumer stated while having vehicle serviced, technician noticed both rear rotors were rusted.

Vehicle went through inspection in may of 2001.techician stated that rotors were pitted, showing spots where big pieces were broken off.beforeinspectionbrakes made a squeaky and grinding noise.asproblem increasedbrakes began to chatter.rear brake rotors were replacedand the front rotors still remained on vehicle.

The rear emergency brakes failed twice prematurely due to broken a retaining pin which caused the emergency brake shoe to engage and wear completely off, also the rear brake pads were replaceed.

While driving brake pedal has to be depressed down to the floor to get the vehicle to stop.dealer has replaced the anti lock brake control module and the master cylinder, but the problem still exists.

Dealer diagnosis is engine knock hot or cold see history piston moving in cylinder making noise operating to manufactures specs at this time---performed decarb 2 times per gm recommendations noise returns currantly no resolutins per gm for noise. That means that i pay thousands of dollars for a deffective turck, the factory warranty it going to expire when the truck hits the 36000 miles dealer explain to me that when gm find how to fix the problem i can go back and gm going to fix the engine of my truck, i'm sceptical for this comment. Gm built thousands of this kind of engines and i dont think that gm going to expend money and time to fix engines when the wararnty al ready expire.

Truck was extremely hard to steer the evening of 12/03/2012.there was a grinding type noise when turns were attempted.took vehicle to a shop for a power steering pump replacement.the shop change the pump and the solid metal power steering hose.it turned out that the hose was the cause of the problem.the repair went fine and i picked up the truck and drove it for approximately 3 months.it seems the replacement solid metal power steering hose broke in the same place, where it screws into the pump. It is now may 2013, and the second replacement power steering hose has broken again.i willtake it to the shop monday, may 21, 2013.i am hoping this hose will last.what could be causing this problem?

Have had a moderate to sometimes severe steering vibration from the day i drove the truck off the lot....vibration is most noticeable at speeds over 65mph.........gets worse as speeds increase.........have taken vehicle back to dealer twice in the first 1000 miles ....each time the tires were spin balanced..no satisfaction....dealer is now stating that they took other trucks for test rides and theyhave same vibration characteristics....is this inherent in the design? ...i've checked the complaints section of your site and noticed that nearly 1/2 of the complaints for 1999 gmc/chevrolet pickups involve some sort of steering wheel vibration....

Steering wheel problems. This seems to be a common problem on all gmc truck products(go to www. Edmunds.com -town hall meeting for hundreds of consumer complaints).

98 v 242 000/steering gear/frame bolts:intermittently the steering will lock up momentarily when turning acurve.dealer and manufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

A collision occurred as a result of complete steering failure and vibrations in the front of the vehicle. The vibrations often occurred between 55-70 mph. They originated in the front end and often transferred into the steering wheel. This caused the vehicle to jerk abruptly, in one direction or another. The vibrations were so extreme, it caused abnormal wear and fatigue on the tires, steering componets and etc. One fatality as a result. (brent mcqueen, investigator on behalf of client). *ph. The investigator believed the incident was related to recall (98v242000) however the vehicle was not included in the recall.

Upon restarting the vehicle there was no power steering.the vehicle was driven and turned off prior to failure.this was caused by the pulley breaking.*sc

Tie rod ends lock nut.the locking nut is .19 inch from locking position on the drivers side and the lock nut on the passenger side is .312 from locking.driving the vehicle in this condition will in time cause alignment problems first, and lead to separation of components ,causing loss of steering.this vehicle came from the factory in this condition.mileage was 40 when left the dealer.has 49 miles on it now.it is scheduled to be picked up by the dealer on 4-june-1999, and repaired.manufacturer has not been contacted yet.

Engine will turn over but never start, security lamp will come on-taken to dealer they said it was the security sensor was going out and that the truck thought i was stealing it, wait 10 minutes & truck will start.that works, but left stranded for over 40 minutes waiting for the sensor to let me start truck.took 4 tries at 10 minutes each for the truck to finally start. Dealer knew right off what the problem was with out hooking up the vehicle to determine the problem.

Truck has been infor several repairs-problems still exits. No safety defect mentioned.

Truck bed bounces excessivly at 68-75mph,shaking works itself forward to cabin of vehicle, steering wheel also shakes, took to dealer who said all truck bedsdo that. Problem is gradually getting worse.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. The contact stated that while having the vehicle inspected by an independent repair shop, he was informed that all of the brake lines were rusted and corroded. The brake lines were replaced by the repair shop. Approximately two years later, the vehicle was again being examined by an independent repair shop and the contact was informed that the frame was cracked due to corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was 100,000.

When driving at highway speeds there is excessive vibration in the body of the vehicle. Dealer has seen and are not able to fix.

Consumer experiences vibration when driving. Whenever turning there's always squeaking in the left front and the right rear. Whenever straightening out, at times there is a loud popping noise coming from the front end. Consumer says it sounds like the stablizer bar in the front failed. Dealer counld not stop the vibration when taken in on feb. 5, 1999. So they put new tires on feb, 26 1999, problem presists.

On multiple occasions the truck after traveling 6 to 10 miles at 70+ miles per hour would start to violently shake and it would not stop until you came to a complete stop. It started out doing it once a week. But got progressively worse until it was doing it every day. It has been to the dealer on 8/5/99, then again the week of 8/23 through 8/27/99, and returned again 9/14/99. They called me back, and they could not get it to duplicate the problem. I returned to the dealer on 9/16/99 and took the service manager for a ride.just like before after traveling 7 miles at 72 miles per hour the truck began to violently shake with him being the third witness besides myself. The truck is still at the dealership as of 10/19/99 and i think it needs to be filed as a lemon under the nc general statute 20-351, so that no one else ends up with it or gets hurt or killed in an accident.

Odd noise from vehicle. Stopped and noticed the center of the vehicle was low (box and back of cab were in contact at the top and separated by several inches at the bottom. Looked at frame and saw that right side of frame was rusted and is cracked almost all the way through, allowing frame to sag and presenting the danger of frame separation which would cause an accident.

Since purchased vehicle experience vibration and recovers very slow from a bump in the road which is causing the anti-lock brake system to fail due to the suspension bouncing while braking .

When the truck is in motion there is a flutter from the front near the windshild and make lots of noise.

Vehicle has had vibration at highway speeds since day 1.have taken it to the dealer twice.have also had all 4 tires replaced by firestone.dealer said vehicle"operating as designed."

To those that could help me get gmc or randy reed gmc pontiac in kansas city, mo to fix this vibration.i have had this vibration in the truck since i drove it off the lot when it was brand new at 6 miles with a deliver miles of 23. I have taken it back to the dealer 13 times in the last 14 months and 8 out of those 13 times it was for the vibration. The dealer had put all new tires on the truck after about 3,000 miles but still could not get the vibration all the way out. It was to a point where i could stand it but i was not happy with it. The vibration comes on between 65 to 70 mph which indicates the tires. The tires are goodyear wrangler st p235/75r16 owl which is the original oem tire for that truck on that year. During the testing around the time of exchanging of all the goodyear wrangler st for exact same thing we put a set of firestone wrangler ht i believe on it and it rode perfectly smooth. On 08/15/2000 i took my truck in for a bulletin the service manager wanted to do to it to strengthen the front end on it and i got it back two days later and it rides rougher than before. I took it back on 08/29/2000 and the new service manager got involved and said he couldnt feel anything on vibration so i took him for a ride and when you go up or down a hill with the cruise control on at 65 or 67 mph you feel the vibration in the floor seat and steering wheel also the mirrors vibrate sometimes where you can not make out the vehicle lights behind you. Then the service manager said it still rides smoother than my new demo with less than 600 miles on it. I believe he has those firestone wrangler something on the demo. I also talked to gmc a few times and they are to the point there is nothing they will do.i like the truck but hate the vibration and it is very frustrating on trips.the transmission also downshifts when you go over a hill with it set on 60mph and air conditioning running.they wouldn't even list this complaint when i told them about it.

Bad vibration at highway speeds. Bad vibration when hitting bumps.entire vehicle vibrates at highway speeds. Had front-end alignment and tires rotated, balanced same problem.

Hen driving at 30 mph or over the vehicle will start to pull to the left, and when making a left turn vehicle will also start to make noise.

At take off and at 45-55 mphfront of vehicle vibrates. Dealer kept vehicle once for 3 weeks, could not find a problem. Consumer is taking vehicle back to dealer at this time.

Major vibration at speeds over 60, also antilock brake failure or jumping --dealer was very receptive and still is but gm seems to be ignoring this problem.

Vehicle vibrates severely at speeds above 55.vehicle shakes when brakes are applied.dealer hasadvised potential problems with front hubs, rear shocks, wheels and tires.vehicle has been to dealer three (3) times since 08-25-99 for diagnosis and repair of problem, but as of 09-10-99, the problem of overall major vibration hasn't been resolved.

Vibration of entire vehicle at highway speeds from day one.

After service department replaced several components in the front end of my 1999 gmc sierra sle xcab 2wd short box it now pulls to the left on flat highway where as it pulled to the right before the parts where installed. If there is ruts from wear in the highway then it will maintain or track them. I explained to the service manager that a 300 pound person will pull the front end alignment approximately 1 degree so it has to be right on and he said it was. Front suspension failed.nlm

Vehicle vibrates at highway speeds, goodyear replaced all tires, still vibrates,.twice, dealer said "operating as designed"

Had to take out fuse for the brakes to work properly. Could hear whinnying noise before taking out the fuse, and light cameon at the same time. Dealer hooked up vehicle to diagnostic machine, replaced right front hub and bearing assembly, and still having the same problem.

Vehicle is experience a rattling noise coming from front drive assembly, by the torsion bar area and steering mechanism. Dealer is aware of defect , claims defect cannot be fixed.

Right front wheel lock up while driving, vehicle tow to a repairs shop and informed of a front wheel bearing failure. Dealer and the manufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

There is a rattle underneath the rear of the vehicle, the dealer has tried to remedy the problem by the following:changed the power steering and transfer case fluid, replaced the shock absorbers, the spare tire jack hoist, and hoses, however the problem still exists.

When the vehicle turns a corner or a curb on wet pavement the rear tires spin uncontrollably.the vehicle is currently at the dealership.

1.)anti lock brake system seems to activate and not allow vehicle to stop nearly as quick as if there was no anti lock system.this has occurred 5 to ten times, but has notresulted in a wreck. 2.)clunking noise inrear end area - sounds line excessive backlash in rear end.

While traveling at speed, tread separation occurred on the left front tire. The air temperature was in the 90's today. My understanding is that this tire size was not included in the firestone recall.

I was traveling on a rural paved road in willcox arizona (rex allen dr.) i was traveling about 45 mph when the right rear passenger side tire blew.i kept the tire and do have pictures of the tire and wheel well damage to my truck. Looking at the tire (what's left), it looks like the tire seperated causing the damage.also, the aluminum wheel is scratched because it hit the pavement.it was a sunday and willcox, az is a small town.i drove to a local truck stop (rip griffen truck & travel center - about 5 miles away) that actually sold firestone/bridgestone, but not for regular trucks.i was afraid to drive without a spare (the spare was used) so i purchased a kumho tire of the same size (it is now the spare).i drove to tucson az (about 70 miles - closest large town) and didn't want to chance driving on these firestones so i went to one of the only sunday opened tire stores whichwas sam's club and purchased 4 new goodyear tires again of the same size as the firestones. I do have pictures of both the tire (only kept the damaged tire - the other 4 tires i checked the serial number and they all matched and left with the sams club) and the wheel well damage.the aluminum wheel is scrached pretty bad also.i also have all the receipts for replacing these 5 tires.i only estimated on the damage to the wheel well and aluminum wheel. Having the wrong tire pressure decal is a serious problem and so far for over a month gmc does not seem to be concerned! as received from the dealer my half-ton truck has the wrong tire pressure decal on the ds door.it is an sle vin [xxx] with p255/70r16 tires on it.. The sticker has a vin of [xxx] model c25753 and telling me to inflate my front tire to 50psi and the back 80psi !.the max. Tire pressure is 50psi. Inflating my tires to the decal pressures could cause an explosion. The owners manual tells you to use the sticker to inflate your tires. As a member of sae i saw right off something was wrong and so far gmc does not think this is a big deal. If someonethat knows no better on tire inflation were to get a bad sticker like this it would be a big deal. The sticker on there is for a c3500 dually pick-up. I wanted you to help me and make gmc take a look to see if this is not the only problem truck for tire inflation.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Lt 245/75r16 vibrate/shake the entire vehicle at 40-45 mph. You can feel it thru your back. Worse when cold in the am. Balancing by the gmc and firestone dealers have not helped. Firestone have offered a generous prorated trade toward dueller ht 6 ply passenger tire. 50% of tire has worn by tread depth at 18000 miles. Should be a 50000 mile tire. Ride has gotten significantly worse in the last few thousand miles. Still occurs in neutral and appears to come from the rear. No vibration thru the steering column. At higher speeds around 60-65, sometimes is noticeable. Feels very unsafe, especially towing camper and at highway speeds. Tires were made in canada. Throttle body sticking. Dealer notified, and informed consumer no recalls on that problem.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

While driving vehicle would start to accelerate, vehicle would pull to the left or sometimes to the right. Would happen all time while driving. When the brakes were applied, they would not pull either way. Took to dealership & mechanic could not locate cause of problem. The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra. I am having trouble with my throttle when attempting to accelerate from idle.it feels as though something is sticking, then suddenly releasing once enough pressure is applied to the accelerator pedal.this results in the vehicle lunging forward every time.

Throttle body sticks. It is hard to push the gas pedal to try to acclerate at a slow speed.when finally pushingpedal inthrottle will snap towards the floor. They could guess what hasbeen causing the problem but with no success.each time repair was done, it lasted only 8,000-9,000 miles.the consumer believes the problem was very serious and affects other drivers too.

Accelerator pedal sticks at idle takes great pressure to move.when it breaks free pedal goes full travel (to floor) idle to full throttle immeadiately. Very rare occurance starting 2 years ago, beginning to be very frequent when engine is cold and starting to occur even when engine is warm. Very dangerous, as pedestrians and other vehicles are at great risk of collision as vehicle accellerates rapidly. Please look at this as it appears to be a very common occurance from the auto forums i have looked at. Vr/ lcdr robert c buzzell, us navy.dt

Accelerator pedal stickes in the closed position (foot off of the pedal)this was first noted around 20,000 to 24,000 miles.dealer cleaned throttle body(around 28,000 to 30,000 miles) which corrected the problem for about 6 months.the accelerator pedal sticks about 80 to 90% of the time.the concern i have is that if i am backing up to a trailer for hook-up or backing out of a parking space, that in my efforts to release the pedal, the vehicle could lurch, resulting in property damage or bodily injury.

Throttle plate sticks at idle requiring additional force to release. This caused vehicle to fail to come out of idle at red lights and intersections. Dealership charged me repeatedly for cleanings and argued with me regarding tsb's about the throttle. I was told i was not supposed to have that information and it didn't matter. I was told throttle body systems are normal maintenance and the throttle body needed replacement every 10,000 miles. The drivers seat (manual) would unexpectedly release throwing me into the steering wheel. Plastic part broke from seat track. Dealership failed to fix, damaged the seat further trying to grind on the track and hammered seat track in the closed position to force the seat from moving. Charged me for damaging the seat. Gm customer service called to argue my complaints, i was told they didn't have any control over the dealership, and if they said the seat was fixed they would back the dealership. This is going to cause me to have an accident.

Just after pulling onto the expressway, the driver side window dropped.seeing how the temperature was in the 20's and the window would not operate, i proceeded directly to a repair shop (curt's).i was told that when the cables snap the window drops and the glass usually shatters.mine did not shatter.the window cable was frayed and broken.if one could see my truck, you would believe that it is new.as with all of my vehicles, i keep it in excellent condition.this truck has never been in an accident or damaged in any way.the repair cost over $400.00.this follows the recent breakage of the rear tail gate cables which pitched my wife and i to the ground.i also had to pay for the repair of those broken cables even though the cables on 2000-2003 years have been recalled and replaced free of charge.

Consumer stood ontailgateandlet it go.he landed onconcrete ground. Contacteddealership, andmechanic told him thatwarranty expired. He wasn't hurt.

The frame off the back window cracked, allowing the rear window to fall out. This has happened 3 times, and is currently happening again.

I currently own a 1999 gmc sierra. In 2001 with 25000 miles on the vehicle the rear quarter glass on the passenger side would not fully close.the latch had worn out and would not seal the window completely letting air and water enter the vehicle. This caused fogging on all windows of the vehicle in cold weather regardless if the hvac system was on or not. It caused the windshield to fog up a great deal and forced me to run the defroster at full power. The window was replaced under warranty and i was told by the dealer that it was a very common occurrence on this vehicle and not to worry about it. Now 3 years down the road the same problem is occurring with the rear quarter glass on the drivers side. When i took the vehicle in to have it looked at they said it was the only one they had ever had do that, a complete reversal over the first time. When confronted with the fact that the passenger side had to be replaced earlier they passed me off to general motors customer service. At this point they have agreed to pay half for the new glass replacement. As the driver side window is causing fogging and water damage to my vehicle i believe this should be covered under the safety statement and paid for in full by gm.

Power driver window failed in down position.tailgate cable frayed, ready to break.abs deploy when brakes applied and bump hit on dry road resulting in loss of breaking power.this vehicle is the worst vehicle i have ever owned and i've had a lot of them.*la

Tailgate straps break for no reason. I have replaced them twice with in the past 4 years.

#1. Rt. Window intermittent. Satisfied with repair #2. Abs sys. Lite on. Abs sys. Inop. Cost was to be $1200, but after neogations repaired under warranty. (vehicle was over 36 mo. Warranty.) i feel this type failure is too premature @ 26,00 mi.

Power switches and motors failed.

Passenger side window fails to operate. This was caused by a faulty motorwhich is a common problem.

Excessive wind noise and air leak in both extended-cab side windows.windows do not secure properly and dealer has refusesed to remedy the problem.this problem is common in the chevrelot equivilant of this vehicle.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

The windshield wiper would intermittently stop during operation.

While driving on an interstate highway at 60 mph in a heavy rainstorm the nut that holds the passenger side windshield wiper arm onto the drive shaft backed off and the wiper arm contacted the driver side wiper arm and stopped both wipers from opperating.

Repeated abs brake failure.this has not been corrected despite numerous attempts to repair problem(s).heater motor malfunction, repeated wiper arm replacement, tailgate handle malfunction.

While traveling windshield wipers would work intermittently during usage, causing poor visibility.

Pirelli scorpion tires, size p255/70r16, bought 7/11/2007 from tirerack.com.at 21,000 miles, tires are showing severe weather cracking, very similar to what i experienced with my ford explorer during the firestone tire recall in 2000.tire racks warranty specifically states tires with weather cracking which were purchased more than 4 years prior to presentation for adjustment are not covered by the warranty.although there is ample tread life left, these tires are simply no longer safe.

Plastic hub nuts continually become loose and have to beretightned. Whiledriving about 55 miles per hour 0ne actually came off.

Two wheel covers fell off.

Lugs: bolts:nuts that hold the hubs on the crome wheels are too short, and cannot be tightened. The problem was reported to the dealership. The nuts have been tightened several times which does not if not solve this problem.checked every other day the hub would just fall off.

Nut that holds wheel and bearing onto axle became loose, resulting in loss of bearing and wheel almost fell off.

Gm issued tech. Bulletin (tsb 03-03-10-001a dated 04/08/03) to address a wheel-cracking concern in model year 99 through 03 , sierra pick-up.i have one wheel that slowly goes flat and need to be monitoredclosely. Dealer states cannot replace rim because vehicle is no longer under warranty.*la
