I purchased a 1993 gmc sierra pickup for my son from my father who was the original owner. My father took very good care of it making all scheduled maintenances as we have done as well after purchasing it. My son was on his way to school when all of a sudden the steering column broke. He was unable to steer the truck and had to come to a complete stop after going approximately 50 mph. Luckily he did not loose control nor did he crash head on into the on coming lane of traffic. Once stopped he couldn't get the ignition to turn off with the key. Had to jiggle the steering column around to shut offthe engine. He did this without the key in the ignition. We had the truck towed back to our home and are in the process of fixing it.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who told the consumer that a new transmission would cost him $4000.00 and to rebuild an old one would be $3000.00. The consumer has made ongoing complaints about the vehicle and feels the cost of the transmission should be lowered. Not only has the vehicle experienced problems with the transmission ,but the roof of the truck including the replacement of the head liner that now hangs down which was due to the roof leaking, the consumer had to replace the drivers side seat belt retractor as well asthe radio system.the vehicle also had a broken seat back recliner, the ignition switch would not turn off, the 4 wheel drive would not engage, the shocks were bad and the vehicle was in need of an alignment.

Windshield wipers were intermitent, now fail and cause high current draw on electrical system. Recalled seats were repaired at dealer, sea-back malfunctioned while driving again reported to dealer said they needed manager approval, no manager available now driving with ice chest holding seat back in place speed controls on cruise control are intermittent brake light/turnsignal passanger/rear burns out more often than other bulbs charring at electrical plug assy. Left door sags does not close properly.my biggest concerns are the windshield wipers and the seats i am going to try dealing with the repair shop but any help from this org. Would be greatly appreciated.thank you

I went out one morning and started my truck and heard a rattle noise coming from the engine. I got out and opened the hood. Almost instantaneously the engine backfired and the cooling fan blew apart and fragments of metal came through the plastic shroud and into my face and head causing serious and would have been fatal injury to myself. If it were not for the fast response of the paramedics who flew me to the hospital by chopper. I am now blind missing an eye and my face and head are scared along with possible brain damage. Please do whatever it takes to keep this tragic accident from happening to anyone else.

When driving at any speed the vehiclevibrates, and the rubber in the motor mounts got hard from the heat and cracked.

Engine failed.

Engine rod bearings blew, resulting in complete engine failure.nlm

The windshield wipers will stop in mid stroke and stay there for an extended period of time before resuming.newer models have been recalled, but the '93 gmc has always had the same problem.the egr valve tends to stick open.it has been cleaned and/or replaced several times, and it's a safety issue because it drastically lowers manifold vacuum and that effects the power brakes.

#1 transmission. Slips out of gear into nuetral while driving at highway speeds.must coast over to side of road, turn off engine, wait, restart and continue on. Narrowly caused a collision with a semi truck while coasting to side of road.complained to dealer numerous times, said they could not find anything wrong.now trans is locked in 2nd gear and won't shift to a higher gear. #2 paint.started chipping within 6 months old and less than 2500 miles.dealers said nothing could be done.roof is now rusted through and headliner is hanging down.dealer and zone rep say gmc is not responsible and refuse to repair and repaint. #3 seat belt retractor.driver's seat belt will not retract and is very loose.it would not prevent injury or death if involved in a crash.dealer and zone rep deny responsibility and refuse to repair except at my expense. #4 radio.radio has been replaced 3 times by the dealer since new and they refuse to replace or repair it again.volume must be turned up all the way to be heard.this is the exact same problem with every radio they say they have replaced.

Plastic outer protection shell has insulation that is retaining water which is causing the gas tank to become corroded, resulting in leakage of gasoline. Repair garage has replaced gas tank and fuel sending unit.

Have compressed natural gas fuel tanks that can develop stress corrosion, which crack the e-glass wrapping. This stress corrosion cracking can lead to tank ruptures.consequence:if the tank ruptures, personal injury to individuals in or near the vehicle may occur.remedy:gm is offering to exchange these vehicles with a comparably equipped 1994 gasoline 1/2 or 3/4 ton gm pickup. If the owner chooses not to exchange the natural gas vehicle, gm will repurchase the vehicle.

Consumer was driving at approximately 65 mph when he noticed thathood began to "flutter".moments later,safety latch released, andhood flew up whilevehicle was in operation. Hood failure caused $1600 in damages.

While driving tailgate latch failed, resulting in bike coming disconnect to the rear of the vehicle.

While vehicle was parked in driveway, parking brake malfunctioned, vehicle rolled backwards and it landed in a class room at school across the street. Vehicle sustained extensive damage.

Replaced the transmission 4 times, recall on seats were fixed but bolts keep breaking so i bought new seats of a differnt style and replaced them after a 5 year problem.paint has been flaking off the truck for appoximately 4 yrs and i cant get the dealer or gm to do anything with this paint problem.they say it is because i am the second owner.the truck was in an accident but the top of the cab and the bed is all that needs painted, and they were not damaged in anyway because of the accident.

This is the second time the transmission went out.the paint is peeling so bad it is down to the metal.the drivers side power window gets stuck at various positions. Windshield wiper motor went out during a snow storm. Starter and catalytic converter had to be replaced also.this truck has had alot of problems for being only 7 years old.

Transmission.comes out of drive while moving and transmission goes into neutral.driver must coast over to the shoulder of roadway, stop, turn off engine, wait several minutes then restart engine.can cause a collision with other vehicles while coasting to the edge of roadway.have been complaining to gmc for 10 years with no correction of problem.i narrowly avoided a collision while coasting to the side of the road.*la

When 4 wheel drive kicked into neutral truck rolled downhill truck was in park and off.

The consumer'sdaughter was unsecuring the belt buckle attach to the seat.when she lift up the buckle up the belt retracted fast and hit her inside of the mouth striking her front tooth.the dealership is aware of the problem.mr

Whenpulling seat belt down to fasten it into place, and then when a child released it, buckle flew back so hard that it knocked out child's tooth. Contacteddealer, said that the seat belt was operating properly and they assume no responsibility. *ml

Passenger's side seat beltis stuck in the retractor. The dealer is aware of the problem. The problem has not been corrected.

Driver's seat belt retractor will not retract.seat belt is very loose and would not prevent injury or death in the event of a crash.dealer and gmc zone office refuse to accept responsibility and/or repair the retractor except at my own expense.*la

Consumer received recall(94-c-62a and b) front seat back recliner failure, vehicle was taken in for repiars and faulty bolts that mounted the seat back to the lower seat frame were replaced, while braking two of the bolts in the driver side seat snapped making the seat lurch foward and then almost completley back, consumer took vehicle back to dealership where recall work was performed previously to replace bolts and was denied, but after a conversation with the service manager it was agreed that consumer would pay only for parts, two weeks later consumer noticed that the seat seemed to be leaning to one side, cover was removed off of seat back and the seat back tubular frame had some cracks in the weld, consumer purchased a new seat back frame, consumer has been denied reimbursement by manfacturer stating that the problems that he is experiencing does not fall under their previous recall which states when bolts fail the seats will recline, not move foward.

The front seat anchor tracks to the driver seatbroke while driving the seat slides back and forth. Dealer has been contacted.

Driver's seat frame cracked.

While driving vehicle two bolts which hold seat in place broke way,causing major safety problems. Problem occurred twice. Dealers are aware of problem. Notedrecall for problem.

Recall work on the seat bolts completed, however replacement bolt in driver's seat broke, allowing seat back to collapse.(qcaw)

Recall work was done in may '96, second failure in feb '99 gmc was contacted, nothing could be done. Recall work is not guaranteed, even though this could have been serious had the vehicle been traveling at a high rate of speed when the front seat bolts broke.

Recall # 95v246000; recall work was performed in may of 97. No problem with bolts at this time. However, owner received a 2ndrecall notice in october of 97.when taken to dealer, discovered that bolts were broken at this time. The bolts have been replaced by dealer.

Seats broke throwing drive and passenger backwards.

The seat tracks attached to the bottom of the driver's seat broke, causing the seat to fly backward.the vehicle was not in motion, or the reaction of the seat could have caused loss of vehicle control.

While driving and attempting to leandrivers seatback latch mechanism broke, causing the seat to fall all the way back.dealer has not been contacted. Seat bolts were replaced during a recall program.*ml

Consumer had recall 93v163 completed, 2 of the bolts on the driver's side snapped while braking also causing the seat back frame to crack in the welds, the consumer took this to the dealer who completed the work for the bolts but the consumer had to pay for the parts, the consumer had the seat back frame replaced on his own, just recently while braking,the bolts broke on the passenger's side, causing the back frame to bend and separate at the weld joints, gm stated that because the seat reclined forward that they would not be responsible for replacing or repairing the seat bolts, the consumer argued that while braking the seat would recline forward, but the dealer still refused any kind of repair.

When depressingbrake pedala poping noise was heard. Also, pedal gave away andtravelingto floorboard. Please provide further information.

Whenbrake pedal is applied anti-skid system will engage, causing vehicle to pull too one side, also, sometimes it appears as if there are no brakes at all. Deaelr has been contacted.

Ongoing / intermittent problem withabs system. Whenever brakes were applied in damp / wet condition the back wheels would lock-up. Dealer notified.

Steering wheel column is loose.steering control is not affected by this. Consumer is concerned about safety.

Tire developed a large egg shaped bubble on right, outside half of tread area. Not on sidewall but directly on the thread.the vehicle started to rock violently from side to side causing the right front end to dip and rise rapidly. I stopped immediately and observed this bubble. I drove the rest of the way home, approximately 2 miles. At 10 mph. When i arived home the tire then deflated but it did not burst. The tire is flat but intact. Is this a tire you would be interested in testing or checking out? please advise. I can see from my experience how the car could over turn due to this increasing violent rising and dipping of the front end. If this occurred on a dip and the brakes were applied i believe it would cause the vehicle to roll over very quickly. Thanks john.

#1 transmission. Slips out of gear into nuetral while driving at highway speeds.must coast over to side of road, turn off engine, wait, restart and continue on. Narrowly caused a collision with a semi truck while coasting to side of road.complained to dealer numerous times, said they could not find anything wrong.now trans is locked in 2nd gear and won't shift to a higher gear. #2 paint.started chipping within 6 months old and less than 2500 miles.dealers said nothing could be done.roof is now rusted through and headliner is hanging down.dealer and zone rep say gmc is not responsible and refuse to repair and repaint. #3 seat belt retractor.driver's seat belt will not retract and is very loose.it would not prevent injury or death if involved in a crash.dealer and zone rep deny responsibility and refuse to repair except at my expense. #4 radio.radio has been replaced 3 times by the dealer since new and they refuse to replace or repair it again.volume must be turned up all the way to be heard.this is the exact same problem with every radio they say they have replaced.

Tread came off of the tire.(dot number: md11 t5h1tiresize: lt245/75r1)

Replaced the transmission 4 times, recall on seats were fixed but bolts keep breaking so i bought new seats of a differnt style and replaced them after a 5 year problem.paint has been flaking off the truck for appoximately 4 yrs and i cant get the dealer or gm to do anything with this paint problem.they say it is because i am the second owner.the truck was in an accident but the top of the cab and the bed is all that needs painted, and they were not damaged in anyway because of the accident.

1) dash brake light constantly on or flashing, code = shorted abs defective?2) 4wd transaxle- shifter fork and thrust bearings broken.no forward or reverse on highway-very dangerous breakdown3) ecm electronic control module failure, preventing the 3-4 overdrive shift in the transmission-very high rpm under load. 4) automatic transmission, no reverse due to loss of planetary gear set (2) due to defective workmanship (drift pin setting gear in hub had worked out thereby galling and milling out the hub area=loss of pressure and bearing stability. 5) nylon rocker arm retainers had fractured and broken due to defective materials, allows rocker to fall off rocker arm shaft and push rods to fall into crankshaft...abrubt engine halt at high speed...very dangerous. 6) glow plug controller does not activate the glow plugs after hot engine sits for about 15 minutes...engine will not start.

Recalled seats were repaired at dealer, sea-back malfunctioned while driving again reported to dealer said they needed manager approval, no manager available now driving with ice chest holding seat back in place speed controls on cruise control are intermittent brake light/turnsignal passanger/rear burns out more often than other bulbs charring at electrical plug assy. Left door sags does not close properly.my biggest concerns are the windshield wipers and the seats i am going to try dealing with the repair shop but any help from this org. The windshield wipers were inoperative.a recall had been issued, however, it did not apply to consumer's vehicle identification number.

On (2) different occasions, one in february and one in may of 97, while using the cruise control and air condtioner,the windshield wipers would not come on.the dealer wasnot able to find a problem.

Intermittent failure of windshield wipers.

This problem has occured at vehicle startup, when driving and attempting to turn on the windshield wipers, as well as having them stop running once the vehicle is in motion.when i took the vehicle to another gm dealer to have the problem corrected they said there was a short and supposedly corrected it.the problem has since reoccured and keeps occuring.the number that i put in the box is low when i consider all of the times that they would not operate when they were turned on.

Windshield wipers quit working while driving in a snow storm.this resulted in poor visibility, which almost caused an accident. Consumer had to pull over, and hit the windshield wiper motor for the windshieldwipers to start working.recall 03v15900was issued, but this vehicle was not included due to vin.

Windshield wipers have stopped working on numerous occasions, resulting in poor visibility. Occasionally when using the windshield washer switch, wipers will not cut off.

Electronic circuit board for wiper motor failed several times causing poor visibility.

Defective wiring harness to windshield wiper motor, causing wipers to stop running randomly.

The windshield wipers will stop in mid stroke and stay there for an extended period of time before resuming.newer models have been recalled, but the '93 gmc has always had the same problem.the egr valve tends to stick open.it has been cleaned and/or replaced several times, and it's a safety issue because it drastically lowers manifold vacuum and that effects the power brakes.

While driving in rain with my wipers on low speed, they suddenly stopped, just as a truck was passing me, with the road water thrown on the windshield by thesemi, i could not see the road ahead. I could see in my side mirror that i was clear on my right side, so i pulled over on the shoulder and stopped.i also own a 1991 3/4 ton silverado which i have had trouble with the wiperdelay function, although they have not totally stopped as the sierra's did. I spokewith some other gm truck owners who say they have experienced similar issueswith the wiper systems of their trucks, some as far back as 1988 models.

Everyone i know who owns a full-sized general motors pick-up has experienced intermettent failure of the windshield wipers. Mine have now failed completely and will not function at all. I contacted the parts department at the local chevrolet dealer regarding this problem. The gentleman in the parts department stated that 'quite a few' of the failing components have been sold. The component that is failing is some type of electronic card that controls the windshield wipers. The card is mounted on the firewall in the engine compartment. My question is: if so many of these cards are failing and causing the windshield wipers to stop functioning, why hasn't general motors issued a recall to have a more reliable component installed? the windshield wipers perform a significant safety function by maintaining the driver's vision during adverse weather conditions.

Windshield wipers were experiencing the same defect as stated in recall 02 v 280 000, but this vehicle wa snot included in recall due to vin.
