Service air bag light is on
2006 gmc sierra hd 2500 - 4x4 crew cab slt - while parked in our driveway andwith keys out of the ignition, the air bag deployed. We called the dealership ferguson pontiac gmc and we were told that it was not possible and out of warranty.we had our mechanic tow it in.they hooked up the computer to see if a sensor had tripped the air bag and the rug started to smoke.they removed the melted mat to the rug and found the wiring harness was melted away.bottom side of the rug was burnt. We went to gmc in person with pictures and asked how this could happened and were told "it can happen at anytime with sand and moisture around the wiring harness".we were told this could have also happened while driving the vehicle. We want this truck fixed and assured that it will not happen again.this could have caused a forest fire, a horrible accident, and ordeath. No one seems to care.we have several gmc vehicles and are concerned if the other ones will do the same.we are not satisfied with their complete disregard for our safety and did not want to even look at it. We have pictures if you would like us to email them to you. This is out of the normal realm of "warranty" and believe it is gm's responibility to fix this and make sure it doesn't happen again.also the public needs to know that this "can happen at anytime".this was quoted from [xxx]the service manager at ferguson ponitac gmc. The contact owned a 2006 gmc sierra 2500. While driving 65 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into a guardrail. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to the left knee, left ankle, left hip, and abdomen. Medical attention was required. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 103,000.
Was driving home from work. Smelled something hot, then smoke came out vents, within less than a minute flames were coming out from under passenger's side dash. Had to pull over and put out fire with fire extinguisher. If there had been a passenger like my children they would have been severely burned or killed.i am a gm technician and the fuse for the hvac did not blow and taking away power did not stop the issue. I know that there are issues with the resistor wiring. My vehicle systems all worked fine before the incident and gave no indications of failing. This incident happened fast enough that the vehicle would have been totally in flames if a fire extinguisher was not right handy. You are aware of this issue why is nothing being done about it. Gm is very lucky that i did not have a passenger tonight.
You can take the key out of the ignition with the motor running. To start engine you need to 'wiggle' the key or take it out and re-insert about 50% of the time. Please note; because of the past "we don't care" attitude of gm on other complaints- i personally don't want them to contact me- i'm just letting you know of this in case of others that have problems.

The contact owns a 2006 gmc sierra 2500. The fly wheel, which runs with the transmission and helps change gears has had to be replaced three times within two years. While driving approximately 10 mph during the first failure, there was a loud clicking noise and it became louder over time. The dealer stated the vehicle was operating normally. A few weeks later, the noise was much louder; however, a different dealer 2 hours away diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the fly wheel failed. After being repaired 24,000 miles and a year later, the failure recurred. The fly wheel was replaced again and lasted 5 months before it failed. The power steering shaft also needed to be replaced due to it being worn out and failed again nine months later. The failure mileage was 22,800 and the current mileage was 55,000. Updated 06/08/09the power steering gear was leaking due to leaking gear assembly, the hvac blower was inoperative, the flywheel was cracked. The dealer replaced the stripped and broken exhaust studs. Updated 06/18/09.
I have a 2006 gmc sierra 2500 hd with 32000 miles. I have had to replace the brakes and rotors twice because they have rusted and rotted away. I have had to replace my exhaust because of rust and the entire under carriage and frame are heavily rusted. I have just recently noticed that there is even rust inside the cab, interior doors, chrome is bubbling.
Truck was parked in garage on a friday night, with no problems.started truck saturday am to back out of the garage to hook up a trailer.i put the truck in reverse, then discovered it wouldn't steer and it wouldn't stop.nearly took out the side of the garage door with the mirror, not to mention, nearly running over one of my kids!i had to engage the emergency brake in order to get the vehicle to stop - half in and half out of the garage.i shut the truck off and restarted it, but nothing changed.called a flatbed truck to take the truck to the dealership.power steering pump had failed and they replaced it.i'm very lucky that i wasn't pulling the trailer when this happened, as i could have been killed, or killed someone else.very scary situation.there had been no trouble with the brakes or steering leading up to this incident - it was just boom - it happened.i purchased this diesel truck new, and have had the dealership do all scheduled maintenance.it has never been involved in any accident, and it is kept inside a garage when not in use.
The contact owns a 2006 gmc sierra 2500 hd. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph and smelled burning coolant and the temperature gauge began to rapidly increase. The contact inspected under the hood and noticed the engine overheating with complete loss of coolant. Immediately, water was dispensed into the radiator reservoir. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer two different times for the same failure. The water pump was replaced twice. The manufacturer was notified and a complaint was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

I have a 2006 gmc sierra 2500 with the lbz duramax and allison transmission. Two of the transmission coolant lines began leaking transmission fluid at the crimp ends in dec of 2010. The truck only had 30,000 miles, but was the 36 month warranty period. Service under warranty was denied. An on-line search reveals several others have complained about this issue and that the dealer installed oem replacement lines are no better (developing leaks soon after replacement), yet no tsb or corrective action has been issued by gm. Leaking transmission fluid is a fire and environmental hazard. The leaks are getting worse.
Arriving at my rv site in alabama from upper michigan a neighbor saw something leaking from near the left front tire of my pickup. Upon determining it was diesel i immediately drove to the local chevy dealer. They said due to the condition of the lines they all be replaced. Next day i was asked to come to the garage to look at the brake lines as they could not move any to get proper routing of the fuel lines.the lines attaching to the abs modulator, total of 6, looked like you could crumble them with your hand so all were replaced as well. I pull a 33 foot fifth wheel and consider we were extremely fortunate nothing happened on the road.
Under normal driving conditions without cause the fuel filter water-in-gas sensor bleed valve leaks fuel. This causes fuel to leak into the engine compartment. Symptoms include fuel on the ground, fuel odor, hard/longer engine cranking. There are other reports of this problem at :http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3452490alsohttp://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:*&q=duramax+fuel+filter+leaking+water+sensor&start=10&sa=n.
The contact owns a 2006 gmc 2500 cargo van. While the vehicle was parked, the contact was unable to open the rear passenger cargo door. The hinge was bent and misaligned; the bottom pins were also rusted. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact called the manufacturer who referred him to the dealership to have the vehicle repaired at his expense; they stated that they would decide if they would assist in the expenses. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The current mileage was approximately 43,000.
The transmission began to slip.at times, i had to stop the truck and put in park before it would engage in drive.finally it lost all but 1st gear.took to dealer and torque converter had to be replaced.gmc made me pay half the $3200 repair.i do not live in a cold climate.a heavy duty truck should not be losing the transmission at less than 50,000 miles!

2006 gmc diesel with allison transmission...lines to transmission cooler leaking. It is a fire hazard...from what i read on the internet it has been a problem with all the transmission lines installed on this truck
I have a 2006 gmc sierra 2500 with the lbz duramax and allison transmission.two of the transmission coolant lines began leaking transmission fluid at the crimp ends in march of 2009.the truck only had 32,000 miles, but was 3 months beyond the 36 month warranty period.service under warranty was denied.an on-line search reveals several others have complained about this issue and that the dealer installed oem replacement lines are no better (developing leaks soon after replacement), yet no tsb or corrective action has been issued by gm.leaking transmission fluid is a fire and environmental hazard.the leaks are getting worse.
I own a 2006 gmc 2500hd duramax/allison crew cab. I took ownership in feb of 2007 with 32k miles. Transmission lines were leaking at that time. Dealer replacedthe lines under warranty. Now at 100k miles and same "new" lines are leaking once again. This is a flammable fluid and constitutes a potential fire hazard.
I am the shop foreman for a construction company in alaska. I dropped off a 2006 gmc 2500 pickup last week to the dealer to have a leak looked at. I got a call back from them saying my torque converter was blown. They said gmc is having problems with the allison transmission at cold temps (campaign # 07293) i had this truck in at 25000 miles to be re-programmed and again at 49000 miles. Now, at 58,000 miles the torque converter is blown and after arguing with gmc, they will not warranty the work, they want me to pay half of the 3200.i drove up in out company's brand new '08 gmc 3500, had the dealers mechanic look at it. He sniffed the tranny dipstick, grimmanced, and said that it too was blown. At 4120 miles, another blown torque converter. The service manager said 17 trucks so far in fairbanks alaska have suffered similar fates, due to this manufacturer error. I am livid, to say the least!gmc needs to be held accountable for this, and owners need to be contacted and told that there is a problem! there is a safety angle as well, according to the mechanic--at a stop light, the torque converter went out, locked up, and pushed the vehicle through the light!

Went to gmc dealer because truck has a transmission oil leak. Technician noted that all three transmission oil cooler line are leaking. According to internet forum (http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202078), this is a know defect on the 2006 silverado and sierra trucks equipped with diesel engine and allison automatic transmission. Several owners have had 2 or more incidents. Replacement lines are no better than the originals.i am an engineer and have been involved in vehicle fire investigations in the past, some were caused by leaking transmission cooler lines dripping on hot exhaust pipes and manifolds. This is a potential fire hazard!this requires a new design for these transmission oil cooler lines.
Transmission cooler line leaking transmission fluid at an aluminum crimp that connects a rubber hose to the transmission cooler; an inferior design. As such, a transmission oil leak is a fire hazard. I am aware of two car fires that were caused by leaking transmission cooler lines. The last one involved a ford taurus station wagon where the owner had the transmission rebuilt by his local transmission shop (a national franchise transmission repair shop) and they cross-threaded the lower cooler line at the transmission. The transmission fluid leaked on to the exhaust cross-over pipe and the car burned to the ground on the side of road in the interstate. The owner's insurance company subrogated against the transmission shop for the damages. Fortunately, no one got hurt, but they came close.
I have a 2006 gmc 2500hd that has 31000 miles on it. The transmission cool er lines are leaking and the dealer has been notified about this problem. The new parts are on backorder, meanwhile the truck leaks transmission oil on the ground which could be a potential fire hazard alone with an environmental hazard.many gmc 2500hd owners are having this problem. This is not yet a recall but needs to be addressed.
I have a 2006 gmc sierra that has had transmission lines replaced and that keep having to be replaced because of hose leaking every year.
The contact owns a 2006 gmc sierra 2500.the contact has a manual transmission vehicle with the wrong hydraulic fluid in the clutch system.this could cause the clutch to fail without warning.when the contact depresses the clutch pedal, it does not engage the transmission and stop the vehicle.the failure occurs intermittently.the clutch and all the hydraulic parts were replaced more than once, but the failure persists.he called gmc and was informed that all the vehicles were made with the incorrect fluid.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 40,000.
Brake lines busted.this is a very serious problem because i was hauling a load and got extremely extremely lucky that it busted as i was pulling in driveway.i was pulling a loaded trailer with no brakes.this is a very common issue with the 2005 and 2006 2500 trucks.i can name 6 vehicles i know of in the past 6 months that this has happened too.mechanic says it's a very serious and common issue that gm should be recalling.if i would have been at a stoplight it would have been bad.cheap materials is the problem with these brake lines.2006 year model is mine.
In the city stopping for a stoplight the brakes failed. The vehicle luckily was able to turn into a parking lot. All fluid was lost because the brake lines failed due to rust. No brakes whatsoever except emergency brake. My state even requires a safety inspection yearly. If the consumer is not going to be notified of this serious problem at least let the safety inspectors know.
Brake line to rear brakes rusted out.
Total brake failure while trying to stop on a residential street. Vehicle towed to dealership & was told brakes had rusted out.cost of repairs was around $2000.00
Brake line failure between abs flow control and rear brakes. Followed by a second failure about a month later with a front brake line. Replace all lines at that point due to rusting.vehicle was garaged in new england, and spent last 3 winters in florida where the lines failed.
Was ready to leave work, had foot on brake pedal,it felt spongy started truck, pumped it up it still felt spongy as i got to end of the road i was driving oni went to hit brake for stop sign/the brakepedal went right down to the floor and brake light/check idiot light and message came on dash, oil reminder asservice brake failure came on up as the message. Barely was i able to stop had to shift truck to 3 low for additional engine braking as i got up to the intersection and almost blew through the stop sign, drove it bout a mile home, looked under truck and saw brake fluid shooting out and dripping off everything by the gas tank. Haven't driven it since.
Brake failure caused by corroded brake lines.
I purchased the 2006 2500hd diesel pickup new. The truck has had poor braking since new and the dealer has always said it functions normally. I have had the dealer do all the maintenance on the truck other than oil and filter changes. The undercarriage of the truck including all lines, brakes rotors, hubs has been rusting since new. The underside of the truck looks like a 20 year old plow truck. On 12-6-2012 i was driving on the highway in traffic and the experienced a complete brake failure. Some how i did not hit anything and was able to get to the shoulder and coast to a stop (very lucky in n.j. Traffic). The brake lines blew the truck was towed back to the dealer and they find the lines are gone as well as the rotors that they replaced about 2 years ago. The pads are still in great shape but the rotors are rusted beyond usability. Looking into this i find i am not alone and would like to know if i can get info on the issue including, is the problem fixed in the new trucks and is compensation available as the truck is on its way to the rust grave yard with the sheet metal rusting from the underside also.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Found rear brake pads and discs completely worn out during tire rotation and brake cleaning and inspection.

Brake line ruptured due to corrosion which was not visible during safety inspections.after applying brakes to stop at an intersection, brake line broke, causing a complete loss of brakes and loss of vehicle control.i had to use the transmission and the emergency brake to stop the truck.several local mechanics commented that they are seeing an increase in the number of this type of failure on similar model years.with no failover system to stop the truck, this should be listed as a safety issue.
While braking at low speeds and coming to a full stop, truck lurches forward and brake pedal goes down 1/8 of an inch. Driver must use more brake to stop truck ( this is with no load in truck at all, only passenger ). Also while stopped and turning the wheel left or right to park, steering wheel looses power steering until brake is released and truck starts rolling. Had truck looked at twice before at dealer for same problem ( once at 32,000 and again at 35,000 ) and was told, as long as no hard codes or failures are found, they were unable to address the issue.
I was backing out of my driveway (down hill slope) and lost power steering and braking in my 2006 gmc 2500hd diesel truck. I put the transmission in neutral and deployed the emergency brake to stop.the mechanic determined the power steering pump had failed and this resulted in the hydro boost failure with subsequent brake loss.after replacing the power steering pump the power steering lines split two weeks later.
I am the original owner of this truck was on my way home from shopping, lights on the dash started blinking. I attempted to stop the truck not knowing what was wrong, the brake pedal went to the floor. I stopped the truck with the emergency brake. Opened the hood and the master cylinder was empty. I was close to home so i took the truck home using the emergency brake. I have this truck serviced by the dealer where we bought it new bob hook chevrolet and also montgomery chevrolet, who had just serviced this truck and nothing was said about low brake fluid or rusting brake lines. The truck is now in a repair shop waiting for parts. The truck is now not drivable and still at the repair shop.
I brought my 2006 gmc sierra 2500 hd in for a brake service as normal. Technician installed brakes and rotors and took truck for a test ride. As technician was bringing truck back from the test ride, brake line ruptured and split! this was the rear drivers side brake line located under a plate. Technician said he nearly crashed the truck into another vehicle and had to use the emergency brake and curb to stop the truck! with all the trucks out there, gm's trucks seem to have the highest brake line failure. I am writing to you to inform you of the problem that could endanger the lives of anyone driving the vehicle as well as the people around it! my hope is that gm sees there is a problem and corrects it before any fatalities arise from brake failure!
The contact owns a 2006 gmc sierra 2500. The contact stated that the brakes were ineffective and excessive pressure had to be applied to the brake pedal to fully stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to sullivan automotive group (2406 n section st, sullivan, in 47882, 812-268-4321), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 0.
Brakes failed "completely", with no warning. No "warning light" on the instrument panel while driving on a public road in the county. All of a sudden absolutely no brakes. Had recently hauled a car on a trailer from emporia, kansas. Was preparing to haul calves to the sale barn. Now that would have been a total disaster.upon inspection, the brake lines are so rusted, that pinching off the line resulted in a rupture in another location. I was trying to get some braking action, so i could drive it to a repair shop. I'll have to haul it.
While towing my trailer i lost most of my braking capacity. I had to use the trailer breaking mechanism to stop the truck. There was no crash or injuries.
Vehicle in motion. Brake line failure (burst) while driving on crowded city street - 30mph. Pedal sank to floor. Total loss of brakes. Used emergency brake and gear in park to stop. Near collision with bicyclist.
I have a 2006 gmc sierra 2500 hd on 7/24/2013 the truck was having tiresinstalled at a local store. They truck was brought in for a wheel alignment service by a mechanic . The mechanic showed the leak and the corrosion on the brake lines above the i beam. They said to call the dealership in town. I called my insurance company to tow the 2006 gmc to the dealership. After the dealership discovered the problem with the rusted lines they asked for $ 1400.00 for replacing the rusted lines.
We took our 28 ft camper to be repaired which consisted of driving on interstate an at a high rate of speed but doing the speed limit. On our way homewe were no longer hauling the camper because it had been left behind for repair. I thank god for this because i would hate to think what would have happened if wewere hauling the camper on the interstate and the brake line would have broken then. When we were almost home i felt something was wrong with the brakes. I had to press them all the way to the floor to get my vehicle to stop. I was close to a advanced auto so i drove very slowly and stayed far from vehicles so that i could make it there for them look to see if i was low on fluid. But when i turned into their parking lot immediately after i put on the brakes to park it the brake line broke. I had to have my vehicle towed to a local dealership where i had to have repairs done. Not only the brake lines were changed but the calipers also. The bill was just under 5 thousand dollars. I called gmc all they did was call the dealership to make sure everything was done. Which was no help to me. I could have taken care of that myself. I believe this is a great injustice to gmc owners that they know of a situation and would let us use these vehicles to haul our children on camping trips putting their safety in danger. I will not purchase another gmc vehicle. Also my extended warranty ended a few weeks before. Although i was told they would not have covered it . I also bring my vehicle for oil changes as required to the dealership which they do check other things as a routine. I cannot understand why these auto repairmen didn't catch this .there is no reason this should have happened to this vehicle. .. When your brakes go out you looking at a major danger to yourself and others.
Total brake failure due to ruptured hydraulic brake line. No prior warning. Total failure, i thought dual master cylinder would provide some braking.
Brakes fade near the end of a braking cycle.no warning lights displayed even though brake pedal felt like it had increased travel or mushiness. Cause; excessive and premature corrosion and pitting of allfour original equipment brake rotors.also, excessive corrosion of brake sensors and brake calipers necessitates an extensive repair.original brake pads are in good conditionrepairs needed; replacement of rotors, sensor, calipers and brake pads.bolts seized by corrosion broke on removal of brake components and this resulted in replacement of sensor and all calipers. The cost of the repair was $2100.00.my opinion; poor quality metals in original factory rotors caused a significant brake failure on this vehicle which caused braking safety issues and an expensive repair.this is a safety issue because; poor braking occurs and the high cost of repair will mean some owners of this vehicle will put off repairs and continue operating this vehicle with damaged brake systems.i think this vehicle should be recalled because this is a safety issue and the manufacturer should take at least some responsibility to repair this model.the 2500 (3/4 ton) series that i own is mostly used by contractors and others who pull or haul heavy loads.so, the brakes really do need to work.
While driving i noticed smoke coming from under the hood and a fluid dripping onto the floor of the truck. Then there was absolutely no brakes. Pedal to the floor. I was able to get it into a parking lot and coasted in neutral til it stopped on a parking curb. The brake line had rusted through and ruptured, and the fluid was spraying into a hole in the firewall and into the cab of the truck. This is the third brake line that has ruptured in such a manner. No warning at all, and then sudden loss of braking. The warning light did not come on until the truck had been sitting for over an hour while i was waiting for a tow, and a large amount of fluid had leaked out. I'm just glad this had happened at a low speed and not on an exit ramp from the freeway. The ruptures are occurring where the lines run flat across a support. This is a poor design.
Rusted brake lines.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's hydroboost was too small for the truck and made too much noise when the brakes or steering were used.the dealer determined the vehicle has no problems, but the contact expressed there will be difficulty doing towing work particularly going uphill and downhill. The vehicle is only two months old and has been demonstrating this problem since the beginning of the second month.
2006 gmc sierra 2500 hd brake pedal feels spongy and harder to stop while towing a boat. The hydroboost seems to emit a humming sound when the brake pedal is applied. The incident occurs when the transmission temperature reaches 180- 190 degrees according to the gauge.
The contact owns a 2006 gmc 2500. While driving in reverse, the contact heard a grinding noise from the front brake area. When the contact inspected the vehicle, he noticed that the bolts that held the calipers in place had sheared off on both front wheels. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership to be inspected. The current and failure mileages were 86,762.
Sudden and complete failure of brakes and steering. Started vehicle, placed in reverse, unable to stop or steer. No emergency assist from accumulator, manual brakes only. Vehicle was placed in neutral, then stopped with e-brakes and service brakes. Power steering reservoir overflowing, puddle on garage floor of fluid, fluid gushed when cap removed. Vehicle towed to dealer where it operated normally! dealer unable to diagnose at time of this writing. Similar complaint from relative with the exact same vehicle, had same thing happen 4 times. Hydro-boost system on a diesel 2500 hd.
My vehicle was totaled and i see their is a recall for the pitman arm that can cause total loss if steering and that is what happened to me

Vehicle- 2006 gmc sierra 2500hd 4x4 duramax/allison there is a very noticeable clunk/looseness in the steering. I have greased/lubricated the whole steering mechanism with no reduction in the problem. My fear is the looseness will result in a complete failure or loss of steering. Prior to that i fear poor driving/maneuver ability while this issue persist.
Dt*:the contact stated while backing out of the driveway at a low speed, the left front wheel collapsed to the pavement without warning.upon inspection, the right front tire was intact.the vehicle was towed to a dealer for further inspection.the dealer determined the front tie rod fractured and needed to be replaced.
I attempted to previously make several repairs to the vehicle. The first of the problems occurred when driving. The suspension made loud grinding noises and after 3 attempts made it was repaired. Now the problem seems to have returned and i am not sure what i should do.
The contact owns a 2006 gmc sierra 2500. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact heard a popping sound while turning the steering wheel. In addition, there was an abnormal grinding sound while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the front driver side hub was replaced. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.
While towing my camping trailer on the interstate i pulled into a rest stop. Then i noticed the right rear tire was flat. Later at a garage the serviceman found the valve stem had split. This was a snap-in rubber stem. I believe the tires on a truck of this size (gmc 2500hd) and with this air pressure (80 psi rear, 55 front) should have steel clamp-in type stems.
Dt*:the contact stated three of the four original tires have gone flat because the valve stems leak air.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and the valve stems were replaced.
Not only does the right side mirror have the objects are closer than it appears style mirror used for cars making it impossible to use for towing ( on a truck with a tow package ) it has red lights that flash in the mirror.not only does the flashing red lights make it hard to see anything in the mirror at night, it makes it almost impossible to use it in the rain at night, as it makes the water drops on the window flash red as well . It is a safety hazard that could also be a problem for someone with photosensitive epilepsy (pse) is a form of epilepsy in which seizures are triggered by visual stimuli that form patterns in time or space, such as flashing lights; bold, regular patterns; or regular moving patterns.
Dt*: the contact stated the rear passenger wheel valve system blistered causing an air leak.the contact changed the tire and the problem recurred.the vehicle lost control and was in a single car accident causing damage to the vehicle.no injuries were sustained.
