The truck was in a close to head on crash and neither air bag deployed, steering wheel nor glove box air bags. There was a death in the other car.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle was hit by another vehicle on the right front side over the tire.there was no pre-braking before the impact.the front driver and passenger air bag did not deploy. Although all occupants were wearing their seatbelts, there were two occupants injuried.there was no warning light illuminated prior to the crash. The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500 hd. While the contact was driving between 55-60 mph, smoke expelled from the instrument panel and air vents. The vehicle was driven to the side of the roadway. The engine was turned off. The contact waited several minutes before restarting the engine. The vehicle resumed operation without the smoke failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired for the malfunction. There was a recall on the 2006-2009 gmc sierra models, the nhtsa campaign id number was 10v24000 (electrical system). The contact experienced the identical failures as mentioned in the recall defect. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Started with speedometer, then gas gauge, then everything else on the dashboard stopped working
Vehicle dies from time to time, and will not start from 10 to 45 minutes later after the engine dies. When this happens there is no electrical to any of the starting circuits.the first failure happened on an interstate highway, speed set at 70 mph, in left lane.power steering lost, power braking lost control of the vehicle was critical, median was wooded so had to steer dead vehicle to right lane and off highway.this condition has happened 11 times and the last two were in traffic, with the next to last being in a curve on a 4 lane undivided state highway and coming within inches of a rear end collision.the vehicle was found to have loose pins at connector, but the mechanic said he was unsure that this was the problem, this was at the first failure in 2004.the last time it died was in heavy traffic on dallas north tollway, resulting in dodging traffic.this vehicle is currently in a local gm dealership repair shop and has been there for close to one month, with no sure cause of failure.gm customer assistance center said that this was the only gmc k2500 in the world with this reported problem.this vehicle fails at various times and dates.beginning on 05/09/04 to 06/28/09 and was placed in the repair shop on 07/02/09this vehicle is unsafe due to loss of all power assist and difficult to brake and steer during this condition.during various repair shop visits "nothing is found" except the download shows that there are several failures.......
Driving down/up a very curvy road and my speedometer became inaccurate. I had to use my gps the best i could to know how fast i was going, so that i wouldn't speed. The speedometer would move up and down but at the wrong speeds. In park at one point said 56mph, at another point 45-50mph. I took it to my local chevy/gmc dealer to get it repaired. Waiting for the appropriate parts, but the parts are going to cost me over $400 + labor. This is a dangerous problem to have, especially where it affects all my gauges, not just my speedometer, mine just showed itself through the speedometer. This is a ridiculous cost to incur for something that shouldn't fail in the first place.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500. The contact stated that the instrument panel changed the display and language independently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 63,000.
Dt*: the contact stated the speedometer went out on the vehicle.the service dealer offered to fix at a charge but the contact declined and expressed that the component should be recalled.updated 9/13/2006 -

Letter on behalf of constituent requesting assistance in difficulties dealing with gm regarding a manufacturer's defect in the electrical circuits in his 2004 gmc k2500 pickup truck. *njthe consumer stated the vehicle stalled for no reason while driving 70 mph on the highway. He lost all electrical circuits, power steering and brakes. After 45 minutes, the vehicle restarted.the next day, the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, where the mechanic found loose pins on the wiring harness connectors at c107 and c108. The mechanic stated he didn't believe that was the cause of the vehicle stalling, but they were loose. Since, the first failure, there have been 10 more failures.the consumer took the vehicle to another dealer where it has been since july 2, 2009 without a specific cause being found.
Speedometer registers 0-70mph when vehicle sitting at dead stop.registers erratic when vehicle in motion.sometimes reads correctly, other times completely wrong.have disconnected battery to reset speed sensor.nothing works.
2004 gmc sierra 2500 speedometer failure at 49k miles: speedometer "offset" is high and renders speedometer unusable (reads 70 when traveling 0 mph and pegs out at > 120mph when travelling normal highway speeds, then fails pegged, and is inoperative).
I own a 2004 gmc sierra 2500 crew cab pickup with 59,000 miles.in the last 4 months the speedometer has been giving incorrect readings, i.e. 70 mph when stopped, 115 when doing 40 mph etc.on occasion, it either doesn't work at all, or the needle is fully pegged.there is no way to tell how fast this vehicle is going.gmc customer service has stated that they can provide no financial assistance for the $320 repair because "they cannot make a business case for it."gmc refuses to acknowledge that this is a pervasive problem throughout many of their vehicles in this model year despite ample documentation of the problem easily found at auto repair websites on the internet.additionally, previous complaints of this exact nature and exact vehicle have been filed with nhtsa.
Driving on the interstate, my speedometer started indicating i was doing 20 mph while i was actually going at least 60 mph.it proceeded to only indicate speeds from approx -10 mph to 10 mph.then the oil pressure gauge went 180 degrees beyond it's max, then the battery gauge did the same.
- the contact stated that any time he drives his 2004 gmc sierra (80000 failure mileage) his speedometer does not register the correct speed.the contact stated that while sitting idle in a parking lot it registers 55 mph.the contact had an appointment with the dealer 3/20/2007 to look into the problem.the current mileage was 81000.
Speedometer stopped working at approx 45,000 mi. Followed by oil pressure and voltmeter at approx 60,000 mi. Also coolant leak behind timing cover at approx 50,000 mi.

Vehicle has experienced multiple instances of exhaust manifold bolt failures at the cylinder head on both banks of the engine.
Exhaust manifold bolts broken
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the fuel restriction warning light illuminated. The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle had a massive oil leak. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel injectors were defective, which filled the crankcase full of fuel and was a known issue. The vehicle would have been repaired per an extended warranty; however, it fell outside of the parameters of the extended warranty, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.
I bought this truck from dealer with 40151 miles. I have this truck from 2007 to present time with the mileage at 51,000 miles. The truck has been used for personal use only. I feel that there should be a investigation into this problem because this will effect millions of gm trucks. This problem will cost over $1000. To fix because of possible fire, engine failure, emissions problems, other very costly problems that will relate to the bolts breaking off from defect on the exhaust manifold. This can cause very serious problems. (this is as serious as the toyota car problems or worse). I also think with the new air emissions standards these trucks will not pass the inspections. Because of the exhaust leaks on the motor. There is no doubt i feel this should & can be a class action suit.gm knows of this defect of the bolt but still no recall. Why must it take someone to get killed or hurt before they fix the problem. I don't have thousands to fix this problem & now when i drive i am worried about the truck going on fire. Gm must do the right thing to correct the problem the caused.please keep me informed.thank [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2002 chevrolet duramax 3/4 ton pick-up fuel system problems**ccthe consumer stated the vehicle was hard to start, and had low power. The dealer replaced the fuel injection pump, the truck ran better, but it still was not right. The water pump was replaced.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact noticed a lot of white smoke emerging from the tail pipe. The vehicle was previously repaired under warranty by gwatney buick gmc (5700 landers rd, north little rock, ar 72117) for the same failure as listed in an unknown technical service bulletin regarding the fuel injectors. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
My wife was driving her truck to dialysis appt at 6:00 am when she heard a noise and her left outside mirror exploded spraying the left door glass and side of the truck with glass and a gel.

In the past three months the fuel lines needed replacement as they had rusted so badly that a leak formed. Yesterday while pulling my 10,000 pound boat, my brakes suddenly failed because of a leak in the line between the abs box and the right front wheel.the catastrophic failure nearly caused me to lose control of my vehicle and boat.i was able to downshift and use by emergency brake to bring the rig to a stop.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500.while attempting to place the vehicle in reverse, the gear automatically shifted into neutral, causing the vehicle to coast backwards.two days later, while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle automatically disengaged out of two wheel drive and shifted into neutral.the vehicle would not accelerate so the contact safely pulled off the road and waited two minutes.he then pressed the button on the transfer case to re-engage the 4 wheel drive.he took his vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the transfer case control module and motor.there had been no further occurrences.the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer.the failure mileage was 68,000 and currentmileage was 68,268.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500.the contact stated that the rear seat belt buckle does not remain fastened.he is waiting on the manufacturer to determine if it can be repaired under warranty.the failure mileage was 22,000.
Emergency brakes don't engage
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500. The contact stated that the brake failed to engage while attempting to apply thebrake pedal while driving 35 mph.the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic for inspection that confirmed that the brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 98,000.
I was traveling south on i-75 highway about 70 mph,in motion, in northern michigan and had to stop fast when an accident occurred in front of me. I slammed/mashed my foot on the brake pedal only to feel it fall to the floor, the metal hydraulic line failed and i now have no brakes at all!! i began to press on the parking brake and down shift the transmission to assist in the slowing of the vehicle. I also steered around the stopped cars into the side and ditch of the road. I luckily had the right reactions but not all people do or cannot act as fast. This is a dangerous issue with this gmc sierra 2004. Please have it recalled. I had to have the repair shop replace all the metal brake lines as they were corroded. I have never had a vehicle fail its brake lines like this. My vehicle only has 48,000 miles on it and is garage kept super clean.
I live in south east ma. Were sault is use always and it has rotted my brake lines at the abs controll a line let go on my truck with family and my grand babies i am a heavy truck operator with a cdl so i know not to panic i got my truck stopped without a crash but if my wife was driveing or my young daughter they wouldnt be so lucky we in the saulting states should have staneless steal for saftycant be to much to ask for young lifes at stake or people who panic what should i do at the time i was in the city of taunton i was coming to a heavily traveled street in rush hour trafic the brake line to rear brakes falled because of rot on inspion i see they are all rotting and need to be repaired i dont have body rot or frame rot of any kind always car wash after storms on nice days.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc 2500. The contact stated that the emergency brake was inoperable. The contact mentioned that the parking brake was depressed and an abnormal noise emitted from the under carriage of the vehicle. The contact believed that the parking brake cable was fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 197,000.
Leaving small rural road.brake pedal went to floor and vehicle rolled through stop sign.no oncoming traffic.upon inspection, left forward brake line had ruptured due to corrosion.only matter of time before other brake lines will fail.
I was approaching a one lane covered bridge on the way home from work and another approaching vehicle failed to yield.i made an emergency stop by pressing firmly on the brakes.brake pedal went right to the floor.i had to quickly use my foot operated emergency/parking brake to stop from having a head on collision.i had to pay close to $1200 to have the entire brake line system replaced due to severe rust of the brake lines.i am very fortunate that this turned out the way it did.my life and the lives of others are being endangered by gm not using a material that is resistant to corrosion.
When attempting to stop, the truck began to stop and then all of a sudden the brake pedal went to the floor.at this point there were no brakes at all.thankfully no one was in front of me so i was able to coast until the vehicle slowed, and then use the e-brake to slow down enough to turn.upon further inspection, a brake line had broken.
Brake lines all rotted away near abs module mounted in frame. I had to take to a shop to get all line replace from abs module forward. This truck has never been near salt ever. 100,000 miles and already relining the truck! fuel lines look like they only have a few months left. This is a danger and a huge waste of money for a buyer i have had other gm cars that are 30 years old with 350,000 miles with factory brake and fuel lines.
Experienced a complete loss of service brakes.fortunately this occured after completing a trip while towing a trailer.had this happened during the trip serious injuries and multiple deaths could have been the result.investigation of the problem indicated premture rusting through of the steel brake line to the right front disc brake.the brake line to the left front caliper is also badly rusted.the brake lines from the master cylinder are mildly rusted as well.
Brake lines rusted through.all brake fluid leaked out.no brake system including emergency brake failed.had to stop vehicle against curb system.
Got in vehicle, started it,put in gear, applied brake and pedal depressed farther than usual, hit again they went almost to floor.got out and saw brake fluid on frame where line had rusted in through.upon inspection all lines are terribly rusted and will need replaced.
Second brake problem, second of three brake line problems from rusty brake lines and brake line failure while stopping and lose of brakes, needing to use emergency brake to stop. All remaining brake lines are completely rusted and need to be replaced for safe driving. This is completely unacceptableand are unsafe driving conditions.brake lines should never fail from rust, period.
Both front hydraulic brake lines corroded on drivers side, with loss of braking, on chassis top rear of front wheel.it appears that there is a large wiring loom (1 1/2" o.d.)clipped on top of hydraulic lines, one to lf and rf wheels. Corrosion on both lines are at the contact of the loom and lines.vibration may have caused the loom and lines to rub and allowed moisture to corrode the brake lines.
When coming to a stop the pedal went to floor and had no brakes. Luckily i was able to swerve and miss the vehicle in from of me. But had to run through the four way stop and was blessed to have no other vehicles in way. The brake fluid was leaking from under the driver side about where the seat is. Upon investigation, the lines are all corroded and rusting. Obviously it only takes one to leak but all need to be replaced. This is such a surprise because this truck sits in the garage most of the time and has very few miles on it.
The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 2500. While the contact attempted to move the vehicle, the brakes failed.
