Dt: the consumer states that their 1999 gmc c2500 light duty pick up was involved in a crash and the air bags did not deploy. Upon further review by gm the vehicle was discovered to not have any air bags in it. The vehicle was bought brand new and the owners were under the pretense that the vehicle was equipped with air bags. The speed of the crash was around 55 mph. The owner of the truck hit a tree head on. The driver of the truck does not remember what caused the wreck. The driver suffered life threatening injuries. He had a broken neck, broken left shoulder and a broken humerus in his left arm along with severe head trauma. The driver did have on his seat belt at the time of the accident. The police report did not determine what caused the accident. There are lots of pictures of the vehicle. There is also an insurance report that could be available. The insurance agent also thought that there was an air bag in the truck. Gm sent a representative to inspect the truck. The representative from gm spent an hour looking for the air bag and could not find it. The truck was picked up off the ground on a fork lift and the representative was looking for the air bag censors and still could not find any. Gm was also under the impression that there were air bags in the truck. The owners have a letter from gm stating that they retrieved data, photographs and measurements from the vehicle. And they were going to get information from the diagnostic and sensing module. The truck was totaled. The consumer was told that a vehicle weighing more than 8500 pounds does not have to have air bags, the truck missed the weight limit by 100 pounds.

When i tilt the steering wheel in the upward position all headlights goes out/off,and when i tilted it to the lower position all headlights come on.this is very unsafe and other owners of this same vehicle needs to know the safety risk involve.this vehicle is available for inspection anytime.

Purchased new, 1999 gmc k2500 suburban, vin [xxx], the unit has 141k miles.this vehicle was special ordered and came off the line out of silo, mexico assembly plant.we just got under the wire to place the order.dealership was al dietrich dealership, waterford michigan, who is no longer in business.on 11 june 2005 at dusk i have my utility trailer parked loading some material.i engaged my hazard flasher and noticed that i had to jiggle the hazard switch to get the flasher to work.on 18 june 2005, with my youngest son, a motorist pulls along side and informs us at a 4 way stop that my brake lights, except for the top brake lights are not working.i go to the local auto part store, oreilly's in belton and purchased 4 bulbs to correct the blown bulbs.when i removed the bulbs, i noticed that the filaments are not blown.i replaced them anyway.that is when i discover that stop lamps are not working.turn signals , backup and running lights to include the top brake lights are operational.to my surprise, when i pushed and held in the hazard switch, the brake lights worked.when the button is released, the brake lights don't work. Father day instead of going to church service, as we do as a family, i spent the day in 90 degree temperatures.removed themultifunction switch. To my surprise, went on the internet and discovered that gm multifunction/hazard switch recall.when i purchased the vehicle i also purchased the complete service manual set for my 99 suburban.now i am going to the dealership to get a replacement at no cost under federal safety laws.with the unit not in your recall,i believe that my unit came from inventories and suppliers who supplied these multifunction switches that are installed in later model units involved in nhtsa safety recall. Gas tank straps rusted through and tank is falling out.

A man climbed into a community center van (used to haul food, all metal and no seats in the back), on a cold night and he apparently set a small fire in the back, presumed to keep warm. Child safety door locks on all doors prevented him from getting out. Evidence in van showed that he tried to kick door and windows out but he was unable to get out. He was found dead in the van, with the fire out. The community center reported that an employee had previously been trapped in the van due to the child safety locks.

The automatic 4 wheel drive acted erratically causing the back end to become loose and resulting in the consumer loosing control of vehicle, skided off road and hit 2 fence posts.nlm

Truck was in shop for unrelated maintenance. Brake line failure occurred while moving truck out of service bay. Truck is currently undriveable. Mechanic indicated that this is common failure as lower quality material was used in the brake lines. Additional research on web indicated this is a widespread issue. This is the first i had heard of the problem.i am the original owner. I feel blessed that this failure occurred in a non-traffic situation. I frequently drive this truck in heavy traffic on i-94.thanks,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Got hard on the brakes to avoid a deer that had jumped out of a ditch and the brake pedal went to the floor and brakes gave out.dealer replaced all the rotted lines to the tune of 1250.00.

I was pulling my horse trailer and went to stop at a stop sign and my truck brakes went out and i could not stop.i ended up being pushed into traffic and almost went off a cliff.my step dad came and got my trailer and we hauled my truck back to his place.my dad and step dad started looking at it and my entire brake line is rusted out?i have noticed several websites stating numerous incidents and recalls?i need help!

2 years ago i had all of the brake lines replaced because of failure due to rust at a cost of $1000.00 i believe the cause was poor metal in the brake lines and the way the lines are attached to the body & frame help to cause the problem.

While attempting to slow the vehicle to exit the highway, the brake pedal went to the floor and there was limited braking.the vehicle had to be slowed by down shifting.after the vehicle was off of the highway, the brake warning light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealership where mechanics found that one of the steel brake lines had rusted and ruptured causing the brake fluid to leak and the reduction in braking ability.all of the steel brake lines are severely rusted and need to be replaced due to concerns of additional failures.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc c2500 pickup. The contact stated that while traveling downhill, the brakes were applied but the vehicle did not respond. The contact had to use the emergency break in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected and it was determined that the brakes lines were completely rusted. The contact spoke to the manufacturer regarding nhtsa campaign id number: 00v345000 (service brakes: hydraulic), but was told that there was no recall for the vehicle.the failure and the current mileages were 170,000.

Brakes failed as brake line corrosionallowed fluid leak. This was first of multiple line failures in the last three years. Three different factory lines failed then one transmission line. This truck is not used during winter and was under coated multiple times. No other part on this truck is corroded nearly as much as every steel line on it, including the gas lines( also replaced just last year) truck runs and drives excellent except for this corrosion problem.

Driving around town and went to slow down to stop and the brake line to the right ( passenger ) front caliper steel line blew fluid all over truck and pumped brakes until the master cylinder was almost empty . Truck stopped after this and turning into a grassy field. This truck needs all the line replaced!!! i bought the truck new 32,00.00 and it has dollar store brake lines!! safe!!!

Went up to store and found out brakes were not working, pedal going to floor. Had to avoid wrecking. Hauled it home. Purchased and put in new master cylinder. Went to bleed the first brake and found a rusted break line over driver side rear. Could hear it sucking air when i was using the pump to bleed out old fluid. Glad the traffic wasn't busy.

I have a 1999 gm pickup while 3 hrs from home i was coming onto a traffic signal when i applied the brakes i was not slowing down i had to use the emergency brake and lower gears to prevent running into the cars ahead of me, when i finally stopped and checked fluid i was empty the closest station was still miles away, lucky for me i was on fl st rd 710 20 miles from indiantown i stayed in the slow lane driving at 5- 25 mph until i could get fluid. I had this problem all the way home without crashing. Upon investigating i found that my brake lines have rusted out, i am now in the middle of changing them out as i can't afford a mechanic and now am having problems trying to fix so now i am out of work because of this. Last night i happened to be watching the news and seen this. If you would like to see the lines i have one off out of 4 lines my hope is a recall to have these fixed by someone that knows how if not i will do my best so i can make it to work.

I own a 99 gmc sierra 2500. While pulling a 9000 lb trailer my brakes went out had enough time to down shift and use emergency brake to bring truck too a stop. Upon investigation i noticed the blown brake line and lots of corrosion on the under carriage of the vehicle this is something that needs to be addressed. I have owned older vehicles and have never seen such rust on the under carriage like this truck has. Especially the brake and fuel lines.

Dealer replaced rusted out brake lines in 2008. Dealer now says brake lines need to be replaced again. Brake lines for this vehicle are apparently made of a material that is extremely prone to corrosion leading to brake failure-which occurred to this vehicle.

I was driving my daughter to a friends house. When the pedal started getting soft ,it was just a 3 mile ride on 35 mph roads. By the time i got home i had no brakes at all. Had to have 5 brake lines and 2 brake calipers replaced they were totally covered with rust.

1999 gmc sierra k2500 4x4. At just over 100k miles the advanced rust and corrosion on my steel brake lines is very bad.these are the hard galvanized lines that are in the engine compartment beneath the brake fluid reservoir near the frame, and the hard galvanized lines that run along the inside of the frame rail on the driver side (left hand side of the truck) from front to rear. This started a few years ago and has gotten progressively worse.the corrosion is in the form of rust that is flaking off in chunks.with the steel rusting and flaking away like this, it will compromise the integrity of the brake line, significantly reducing the ability for the brake lines to hold pressure, and at some point may ultimately result in brake failure.i have other gm vehicles with more miles that are older i've had since new and the brake lines have very little signs of rust and corrosion.i am not happy about this as i take very good care of my vehicles and this is the first gm vehicle that i've seen this happen.i will have to stop driving this vehicle to avoid the high accident risk potential the rusted brake lines have created.

Brake line burst.this is the second time, but a different brake line.

Dt: a humming noise came from under the hood after removing the key from the ignition and shutting off the engine.the vehicle was driven to a gm dealer, who noted thatthe anti lock brake pump was continuously running.the anti lock brakes were repaired under a recall, but the pump was not covered by the recall. The cost for a replacement of a brake pump was $2,000 or the dealer could perform a cheaper processby simply removing anti lock brake fuse which bypassed the brake pump.the contact opted for removing the fuse due to cost.this remedy warranted the anti lock brakes as non working.since this repair there have been no further problems.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 2500.the contact stated that every time he approaches a stop at approximately 10 mph, the abs engages and the vehicle jerks forward.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that it was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock).the dealer stated that the hub bearing needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,700.the current mileage was 120,000 and failure mileage was 96,000.updated 12/12/07

While driving on local roads applied brakes and heard squealing noise.contacteddealer and was told vehicle needed new brakes.they were not under warranty. Later, while driving down the road, slowed down to make a turn, andsteeringwheel would not turn. Also, there was noise in the steering column. Vehicle has beenat dealer's5 times for both, brake and steering repairs.*ml

Brake problems since purchase of vehicle. When going over bump and braking at same time, abs kicked in and it took longer than usual to stop,up to 1 1/2 car lengths. Gmc co and dealer said that was how their vehiclesreacted.

Consumer had an intermittent problem with brakes. Brake pedal would go tofloor when tyring to stop. Also,if it was pressed a couple of times it would kick back in. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong withvehicle, and said to bring it back whenvehicle was having the problem.

When the vehicle was shut off, the anti lock brake motor blew out.

This vehicle has been in the repair shop at the dealer listed 7 different times for a continual problem with the truck pulling to the left side. It has been aligned numerous times, tires changed, steering box controller replaced, sensors replaced, etc. We still have this safety problem with this truck.we now have contacted gmc about all these problems. Since the truck is a company vehicle we can not get a replacement or refund under the lemon law. Except the applied warranty law? we would like to see the problem with it pulling left and now banging every so often when put in gear. We were informed gmc put in a new system in all there pickup trucks steering assy.s that are supposed to allow the truck to drive as smooth as a car. We feel this is the main component that keeps acting up causing these problems.if we cant get this truck repaired right once and for all we are going to take legal action to either have this truck replaced with a even trade or full refund and damages with possible. Thank you for any assistance you can give.

I was making a right turn out of a parking lot and heard a load clunk. When i got home i was looking for the cause of the banging and found that the rear leaf spring shackle had rusted so bad it broke in half.

Two separate blowouts on a 1999 gmc, 2500; original equipment, lt215/85r16, dot# plb078-b02l. 1st occurred at 55 mph with inner left rear tire, and2nd occurred at 55 mph with outter right rear tire; with driver and one passenger, no injury. But vehiclesustained $ 125.00 in rear end damages. Yokohama was not notified at this time, and both tires are available for analysis. Feel free to provide any further details.after the 2 blowouts the other 2 tires began separating on the inside.

The vehicle was cold and driven approx 1/2 mile to stop light from home. I was lightly stepping on the brake waiting for a light to turn green and all of a sudden a brief surge which caused me to hit the brake harder and then the surge stopped. I could see the tach go up as if i had hit the accelerator. In my opinion this sudden acceleration is a computer issue and not a toyota, ford or gmc issue. Who manufactures the computer equipment for these vehicles? in my case i just ignored it because nothing bad happened but i thought the nhtsa should know. I have not had the problem since.
