I was heading north bound on i-45 near north avenue in milwaukee, wi when it began to rain slightly. It was approximately 3:28 am. I slowed down to 50 the speed limit was 55 and the i turned on my fog lights to help me see better by the time i got to capital drive it was a complete downpour. Raining very hard. I was in the very inside lane ie: "the fastlane" i was approaching the hampton avenue exit and there was a semi on my right his rear tandom axles where just to the right of my passenger side front tire and he was coming over to my lane. I hit the breaks and was steering to theright to go towards the middle lane. My brakes locked up and the abs brakes never turned on. This is a 2003 gmc 2500 hd crew cab all the weight is in the front an the cab. When i hit the brakes i was heading for the right lane and the truck turned 90deg to the left and hit the concrete divider wall. At full 50 mph speed and the passenger rear came around and hit the wall as well. The air bag never deployed. I hit the wall with so much force that the bed of the truck embedded in the rear of the cab. Mind you this was a 3/4 ton truck it takes a lot of force to have this happen. I feel that if my abs breaks have pulsated 10 times per second per wheel i would have came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder of the road with the trajectory i was heading. The air bags never deployed. Good thing i was wearing my seat belt. The time of the crash was. 3:45 am.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd.while driving 35 mph, the warning lights on the instrument panel continued to flash on and off.in addition, the windshield wipers activated and smoke was noticed underneath the hood.the contact had been driving for several minutes before noticing the smoke.the hood could not be opened and the fire department was called.a police report was filed.ten minutes later, the vehicle was engulfed in flames and destroyed.the failure and current mileages were 65,000.updated 09/25/08the consumer stated it was a possible fuel line failure. Updated 09/26/08.

2003 gmc sierra pickup w/49000 miles.speedometer has started erratic readings which presents a safety hazzard when driving.

Speedometer began to register inaccurately then stopped working completely.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd.the contact stated that the battery light would illuminate on the instrument panel abnormally and the speedometer had failed.the dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided to the contact.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 111,000 and the current mileage was 112,000.

Faulty speedometer, reads120mph most of the time.

2003 gmc sierra 2500hd w/duramax trans speedometer failure in reading accurate speeds stuck at 120 mph perhaps leading to trans failure/ leaking fluids due to improper shifting.

I have a 2003 gmc diesel pickup.i have had the vehicle in twice for electrical repairs in the last 9 months.the electrical problems observed include:airconditioner cutting in/out, radio cutting in/out, power windows not working, dash gauges cutting in/out, idiot lights coming on (abs, brakes, check engine etc).it was repaired once by the dealership at a cost of $500.now, 9 months later, the vehicle is back in for the exact same problem.the techniciain took it for a ride and had so many problems, he was afraid he wouldn't make it back to the dealership.

Blower motor resistor does not operate. Upon inspection, harness and final stage are damaged due to excessive heat. I need to replace both components because i fear it will cause a fire. Many posts on the same thing. Why is there nothing done about this?my bmw had same issue but it was a recall on their cars. Why is it not a recall on gm? is it because they are an american car company?

Pulling out of a parking lot on wet pavement my rear truck tires spun a bit and then when i got on the road traveling about 50 mph my speedometer read 120 mph!when i came to a complete stop the needle stayed at about 70 mph.the problem is i don't know how fast i am going, but i can guarantee that it wasn't 120 mph!:)truck is still not working.vehicle is a 2003 gmc 2500hd.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd.the contact was driving approximately 55 mph when the speedometer began to inaccurately read a speed of 90 mph. The contact shut off the vehicle and when restarting, the speedometer was still reading inaccurately. The vehicle was not taken to be examined for the cause of failure and was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 100,000.

Gauges stopped working. No lights, no odometer, no information at all.

Speedometer , fuel gauge etc. Went at 93,000 miles. Gmc knows of this problem and will only fix it on a limited basis. Not every one was informed of this problem and they will only fix it if you are under 70k miles.

My speedometer on my 2003 sierra 2500hd became erratic and then stuck at about 140 mph and stayed there.

The electrical gauges all of sudden stopped working. The battery gauge came on first , pulled over and battery was fine.then all gauges just completely stopped working.

2003 gmc 2500 hd 6.0l has an erratic speedometer that is a safety issue.

The instrument cluster has been failing one gauge at the time since 4 years ago, finally it quit all together, i called gm and my local dealership and i was told there was nothing they can do but to charge me for check up and possibly get me a new cluster for 400.00what a joke. I know gm has been aware of this problem but nothing gets done. What is it going to take to get gm to get this problems serviced with no cost, after all it's their reputation.... I won't buy another gm vehicle.

At around 102k miles, speedometer needle quit returning to zero when the vehicle stops moving. Needle may come to rest at any point on the dial when vehicle is stopped, and the rest point may or may not change while the vehicle is underway, making it difficult to estimate speed (e.g., needle may initially indicate 30 mph at rest, but actual speed underway isn't necessarily 30 mph less than indicated because the rest point may have changed). And when the dial zeros at 120 mph, the truck effectively has no speedometer at all rather than just an inaccurate one. I received a letter from gm warning of potential instrument failures and offering free repair on vehicles with less than 70k miles; an email correspondence with gm confirmed that they would not repair mine for free or at reduced cost. Internet discussions and ads for instrument repairs reveal this to be a common problem on a range of '03-'06 gm vehicles. The gm dealer i called will fix the instrument cluster for $500 -- roughly 3 times what repair services advertising on the internet charge to replace all the defective stepper motors in the cluster. This problem is certainly safety-related (think of misjudging speed in a rollover-prone vehicle going into a sharp curve), and to the degree that is virtually inevitable on certain vehicles, gm should issue a recall rather than a limited "secret warranty".

Speedometer reads high & low no relation to actual speed. Constant problem. Excessive cost to repair using hand held gps for now. 2003 gmc 2500 sierra hd 4x4.

The speedometer and tachometer works sometimes but other times it does not work. This is a safety issue as the speed is unknown.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but i was told that it is no longer under warranty.

Oil pressure gauge failure, erratic speedometer and tachometer.

Erratic speedometer; will not reset to 0; will not correctly measure speed .

My 2003 gmc sierra pick-up speedometer broke with 50000 miles and now i don't know how fast im going. Gm has not offered a recall and needs too.

Speedometer in my 2003 gmc sierra has gone erratic.zero to 120 mph fluctuations, sticks.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd.the contact stated that the instrument panel failed and prevented him from knowing how fast he is traveling, or any other pertinent information.the dealer stated that there was no recall for the failure.the vin and recall number were unknown.the failure mileage was 90,000.

2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd ext. Cab, 8-ft. Box. In cooler weather, fall, winter, spring, the gauges malfunction.that is, the speedo and tach read wildly high ordon't activate at all, and the other gauges all are non functional. This is intermittent and is apparent when starting on cold mornings. So far, symptoms have disappeared in warmer temps. It has occurred every year. There is an advisory, but gmc won't act on my word, must see it.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500. The contact stated that the instrument cluster failed several times. The failure progressed and the gauge would not function. The vehicle was previously repaired at a dealership but the failure occurred again. The contact called the dealership again but the dealer stated that there was nothing they could do. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 118,000. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.

Speedometer doesn't read correct speed. Speedometer needle sticks and then when you start again it will start reading from where it was stopped so if it sticks at 30 mph and you resume speed to 60 mph it will read 90 mph.

When the consumer made a stop, he noticed the trailer brakes did not work. The consumer then received a notice in the mail regarding the wiring harness in which gmc had switched two of the wires on the truck at the factory.the consumer purchased a new brake controller because it burned up .

Instrument panel cluster components failed thus all gauges on dash board went "flat"/back to -0-; vehicle did operate however could not even read how much gas was in tank.also as of mileage of 13312 notice vehicle began to use oil, as of 26300 after watching the vehicle noticed that it was extremely low; apparently the vehicle has been leaking oil on the intake - loosing almost 2 quarts of oil - on a newer vehicle it should not be using this much oil.*la

While driving, large amount of smoke came out. Took it to gm dealer who said that it the fuel injectors were leaking. Looked online and noticed hundreds of reports of the same action. Gmc apparently did an extended warranty for the issue, but only covered it for 7 years from time of purchase and up to 200,000 miles. Talked to local dealer who denied the service and gm wont replace the fuel injectors.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

I own a 2003 gmc duramax 167000 miles, it has been a great truck until recently, after engine gets hot it will not start back up until it has cooled off! have not been able to find the problem yet, but found a lot of complaints online from people with the same problem, [injectors], very expensive to repair!!! this problem is very frustrating, would be great if general motors would correct this problem!!!!

I keep getting reduced engine powerp1516 code . Reading the post's on the internet this is a real common problem.also the speedometer will display 120 mph sitting at a traffic light.

Power steering cooler and lines rusted through and leaking, engine oil cooler lines rusted through and leaking, transmission oil cooler lines rusted through and leaking.all had to be replaced. Work donea t gmc dealer.

The vehicle leaked diesel fuel from the engine.the engine ran hot, which combined with the fuel leak, could result in a fire. *nlm

4 broken exhaust bolts on my 2003 serra 2500hd (pickup) v8 engine. Please watch the video of the same problem i have.www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yg6wlbnzgi.

I have a 2003 gmc 2500 hd duramax diesel.my complaint is the air conditioning doesn't seem to cool very well. I had a 2002 model and it cooled alot better. I am not sure what was change other than this is a dual zone system but is not for the better. I would like if gmc would change it back to the way it was in 2002, especially for those who live in the southern states. I am a professional and when i climb into my truck on a hot day i soak a perfectly good shirt waiting on it to cool down in the cab. This is pathetic to think that gmc's slogan is "professional grade" not as far as the ac!*nlm

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd.the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired two months ago for the fuel filter housing, which caused the vehicle to immediately stall.since july 3, 2009, the failure has been recurring while driving 20 mph.gm stated that they did not have any parts available to repair the vehicle due to so many consumers who were experiencing the same issue.gm is researching an alternative to repairing the fuel housing failure.the contact feels that this is a serious safety defect.the failure mileage was 117,000.updated 08/14/09.*ljupdated 08/14/09.

2003 gmc sierra 2500hd the injectors want bad was told it was the fuel housing. So changed that now having to change injectors.

Started vehicle and fuel injector is not working.

Brake line leaks, brake stopped working because of rusted brake lines.also fuel and transmission lines are rusted badly.

2003 gmc sierra 2500hd with duramax diesel started running rough because of low fuel.low fuel warning light did not come on.put 4 gallons of fuel in vehicle and scheduled appointment for 08/02/05 with gunn chevrolet service, san antonio texas.mechanic could not find any trouble code.was told by service adviser brian lecourse that there is no calibration or standard for low fuel warning light to come on and it may come on when vehicle is running out of fuel.i filled up the vehicle with 25.2 gallons of fuel for a 26 gallon tank.the low fuel warning light still was not on and the driver information system showed 36 miles left to travel.i went back to gunn chevrolet and was told that the problem could not be fixed.general manager charley o'daniel said that the people that design the vehicles are smarter than the people that fix themand that tech line stated there was nothing that could be done with this problem.charley o'daniel said not to let the vehicle get below 1/4 full as damage could occur to the engine fuel pump.

Had injectors replaced under warranty at 50000 miles after noticing excess exhaust smoke on startup and also power steering hoses were leaking, again at 105000 miles they totally failed as i was bringing my wife home from hospital on i-15 in ca. Up cajon pass and had to be towed to dealer, but gm dealer would not cover injectors under warranty as truck was11 years old and their coverage was for 7 years only, now again had to have them replaced at 147000 miles because of excessive smoke on startup. This time i went to an independent shop as they were $1000 cheaper and stated these upgraded injectors should last 150000 miles not 50000. Had to have power steering hoses replaced again also along with power brake servo because they were leaking again at 157000 miles. Ihave all of this documented in writing by service depts.

Parking brake failure.

Front brake lines failed on boat ramp on 9/15/2010rear brake lines failed on 7/20/2011, transmission lines fail on 5/10/2012 i am sure gas lines are next. Truck is a complete rust bucket underneath.

Transfer case made a grinding noise. Notice cut on outside of the case.

Vehicle transmission not shifting correctly causing vehicle to accelerate too slowly when pulling out onto highway and not properly downshifting. *nlm

Brake line leaks, brake stopped working because of rusted brake lines.also fuel and transmission lines are rusted badly.

Vehicle started to make noise. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to have the tires checked.front tire axle nut was found to be loose.also, the rotors and bearingshad to be replaced.

I entered the truck stepped on the clutch pedal, shifted into reverse and started to ease the clutch out when the pedal went all the way to the floor board.the vehicle immediately chirped the back tires at no more than 950 r.p.m.'s and began to immediately go backwards towards another vehicle in my driveway.i quickly stepped onto the brake and stalled the vehicle to a stop.i then proceeded to look under the dash to see what had "popped" and found that i could see light throughout the firewall, as i moved the pedal up and down.i opened the hood to find that the black plastic flange that the clutch master cylinder mounts to had broken or shattered releasing the master cylinder therefore, completely disengaging the clutch.had i not been quick to react, i would have struck another vehicle in the side causing extensive damage.had i been in 1st gear when the failure occurred i would have lunged foward at the end of my driveway and off a 10' ledge straight down into my neighbors backyard, resulting in personal and property damage.this vehicle has only approx 104 thousand miles.this was a poor design and has failed in a very dangerous manner.this needs to be recalled immediately.

I have a 2003 gmc sierra 2500hd.the four wheel drive works intermittently.according to gmc document id#1400441 there is no fix for this problem now.however, they are working on the problem and as soon as a fix is available they will make the repairs in the trucks. This problem applies to 2003 and 2004 k series.these trucks are not only used personal but in some cases, alsoin emergency rescue and fire services where the 4 wheel drivemay be needed to gain access to patients. I can be contacted for further details.

There was an electrical short in the transfer case that resulted in vehicle engaging into 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive by itself. Dealership replaced thefailed part.also, front driveshaft was loose, causing the front wheel to vibrate/shake.

2003 gmc sierra 3/4 ton, 8.1 litre engine with allison transmission-gm says they are aware there is a problem with the driveshaft where it goes in to the rear end. Every 10,000 to 15,000 miles it must be removed and cleaned, greased and replaced. They are unwilling to place this on a recall list and say in the future it will be a maintenance item and it will be done at the owners expense every 2 or 3 oil changes. As for mine they will do it for a short time longer and then it will be myproblem-this is a definite defect they acknowledge but refuse to do anything with these vehicles that already have this problem, if you are already out of original warranty and did not purchase the extended warranty you will just have to pay out of your own pocket, them knowing fully about the problem.

Transfer case burt up due to faulty clip design, snap ring wore into case, very poor case design.an aftermarket manufacturer has come up with a better back half of the case and upgraded pump to fix this problem.

The 4-wheel light illuminated on thedash board which indicatedthe 4 wheel drive was on, when it was not, the vehicle was at the shop on 6 occasions, and the dealer was unable to correct the problem.

2003 gmc sierra 2500hd crew cab cloth split bench: the shoulder harness seatbelts on all three passenger seats will lock up during normal cruise (no sudden stops or yanks on the belts), and will continue to get tighter and tighter until the occupant must unbuckle the seatbelt and let it completely retract before it can be re-buckled.

Trip from long island new york to freeport maine. Traveling 65-70 mph during trip on highway 95.arrived in freeport. Checked into hotel. Went out to truck 2 hours later with the intention of attending an event. Stepped on brake, started truck, brake pedal went to the floor. Pumped the brake pedal but it would not recover from the floor. Checked under truck for leaks and found badly rusted brake lines had burst releasing copious amounts of brake fluid. The truck was towed to sears auto department who had to rebuild the entire brake system from the master cylinder to each wheel. Sears had to replace brake lines and calipers since the calipers were also so rusted that they could not be bled. If these lines had burst on the highway; my wife, my son and me would have possibly been killed or severely injured and others on the road may have suffered the same fate. I have never seen this type of rust on any auto i have ever owned. This truck has never been exposed to salt water. Roads are salted in winter on long island.(as an aside, i had to replace the front bumper prior to starting the trip because it had rusted through from behind. It seems that inferior materials were purchased by gm).

Going down a hill approaching a "t" intersection i pressed the brake and went to floor, tried pumping nothing so i put the truck in 3rd gear and then 2nd and shut off my lights to see if any cars where coming into "t" . I need to turn left, luckily no cars made it thru. But i had to cross a hwy before getting home. I did the same thing went from d to 3rd to 2nd, again no cars. Was very lucky.

Was driving down road at speed limit, hit brakes, rear brake line burst (was severely rusted).i was unable to stop vehicle and proceeded through a red light at a busy intersection with my 2 year old on board in his car seat.how we both made it out of that incident unscathed is amazing. I was unable to stop and had to pull off to the shoulder and hit the parking brake.it took my son a good 2 months before he was able to rid himself of fear and anxiety due to what happened.

Complete brake failure while pulling a 10000 pound trailer in camp ground. The brake lines under the drivers side broke appeared to be corrosion. Truck was towed to repair location. All brake lines were replaced, cost $ 950 dollars.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd utility truck. The contact stated that while traveling 30 mph, the brakes became inoperable. The contact was able to merge off road where the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the brake lines and brake pressure control module failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were not available. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. While driving approximately 15 mph, the contact depressed the brakes and the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The tow truck driver noticed that brake fluid was leaking onto the rear axle. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, he attempted to decelerate and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. The vehicle was taken to aprivate mechanic who inspected the brakes and noticed there was a hole in the brake line that caused a leak. The mechanic stated that he needed to replace the entire brake line. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 99,075. The vin was not available.

I was driving down the road when my brake peddle went to the floor, i had to use my emergency brake to stop my vehicle. Luckily i swerved to avoid traffic in front of me and was able to stop safely. Upon having my truck towed, my mechanic showed me that my brake line from my master cylinder had rusted out causing brake failure.

Came to intersection for turn, broke and pedal went to floor.

During a tire rotation at costco , they discovered brake fluid leaking from the brake lines. Upon a further investigation ,the brake lines are leaking and found to berusted out. I have been using the vehicle to tow a 2010 air stream and thank god no accident or injury has occurred.

As i began backing out of my drive way my brake peddle went to the floor and i had a rapid decrease in braking power.upon investigation i noticed brake fluid leaking from the brake lines right above the frame rail on the driver side.if this happened while driving it could have led to injuries or fatalities especially when such a large and heavy truck suddenly loses braking power.

I had stopped at a gas station and when i left i was going approximately 35 miles per hour when i put pressure on the brakes and the brake lines ruptured . Wasable to get to a repair shop and they said that the lines had rusted through. All lines had to be changed,

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. The contact stated that while traveling 20 mph, he attempted to stop and the brake pedal failed. The brake pedal could not be fully depressed. The contact was able to slow the vehicle to a stop and merge to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where it was determined that the brake lines were completely rusted. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 108,500 and the current mileage was 108,505. The vin was not available.

Brake line leaks, brake stopped working because of rusted brake lines.also fuel and transmission lines are rusted badly.

I was moving the vehicle in the driveway when the break pedal went to the floor.the truck stopped so i got out and looked under it and saw break fluid pouring out of a break line that had completely rusted through.the former owner had already had another break line replaced because his breaks had ruptured due to the lines rusting through while driving at highway speeds and towing a fifth wheel camper.he was able to avoid wrecking and came to a stop.this truck has low miles and about 90% of its use has been during the summer so it has had limited contact with salted roads yet the entire undercarriage of the vehicle is rusting at an incredible rate.i am fortunate that i was simply moving the truck rather than hauling my camper on the highway which is it's typical use; i and/or others could have been severely injured or killed.the rusting through of the break lines is a safety issue!

I was driving my 03 sierra, approaching a stoplight at a busy intersection when i applied the brakes.the truck began to slow at first but then the peddle immediately went completely to the floor.i began to pump it but there was no response.i was heading toward the intersection, the light was red, with busy cross traffic.the street i was on is narrow and steep and i began to pick up speed.i shifted the trans into the lowest gear and stepped on the emergency brake.the truck finally came to a stop in the middle of the intersection, as oncoming cars luckily avoided hitting me.when i went to my mechanic to arrange to have the truck towed,he knew immediately what the problem was.he told me, sight unseen, that the brake line under the driver's side had ruptured.later, upon inspection,he was correct.he also told me that this was a very common problem with that year.he replaced the line and i thought that had solved the problem; until two days ago.again, i am driving down a hill and the same thing happened.i was towing a very large trailer this time and the emergency brake had little affect.luckily, there was little traffic and i was able to ride it out without incident.i have since discovered that this is a problem with not only the 03 year but 4 or 5 years prior also.another mechanic told me that the entire system of lines should be replaced since gm used a uncoated steel which begins to be compromised within just a few years where salt is heavily used in this area.it is obvious that gm used uncoated steel instead of coated or stainless to save a few dollars.had my 17 year old son been driving, the outcome could have been disastrous.this is only one of many problems i have had with this truck.another is erroneous speedometer readings.i will address these in another post.

Applied brakes brake light came on along with brake system service needed lost pressure on pedal and all lost fluid still had small amount of braking (brake lines corroded and leaked out fluid ,lines should have been made from stainless steel not cheap steel.)

When the consumer made a stop, he noticed the trailer brakes did not work. The consumer then received a notice in the mail regarding the wiring harness in which gmc had switched two of the wires on the truck at the factory.the consumer purchased a new brake controller because it burned up .

Total brake failure.discovered brake lines had rusted in several locations through and all needed and were replaced by dealer.

Many components under the truck are severely rusted.two brake lines failed in august 2011 due to rust.the rest are ready to fail soon.the power steering line rusted out this month (december).rust at sensors of abs system causes erratic abs operation.

I was driving my '03 gmc sierra 2500hd on a highway at approximately 65mph, when i had to slow down, to avoid hitting a vehicle slowing down in front of me.i stepped on the brakes, no harder than i normally would, and the pedal went all the way to the floor, with very little to no stopping action from the brakes.i was able to slow down by downshifting the automatic transmission and using the emergency brake to stop, while pulling onto the shoulder.my truck had to be towed to a repair shop, where it was determined that the rear brake line along the drivers' side frame rail had ruptured due to corrosion.my emergency brake assembly also had to be replaced due to excessive rust on it, as well as defective brake shoes.the total cost to repair the brake line came to approximately $450.00, and the emergency brake replacement came to around $900.00.the rest of the brake lines are also very corroded, and should be replaced.i was quoted a price of $1,450 to replace the remaining brake lines on the truck.

On nov. 14 2008 my 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd 4x4 brake lines failed.the gmc dealer service consultant stated that 1 of my forward lines had failed due to corrosion and that 3 more lines needed to be replaced due to corrosion.that they would fail at any time.with only 56,292 miles on the truck and not living on the gulf coast i was surprised to say the least.i had to pay $ 1209.69 to get the lines replaced at the dealer.

Abs engages at low speeds (~5mph).front end chatter results and stopping distance increases.also pulls car to one direction.this is a 2003 gmc sierra 2500hd.

Hit the brakes on my 2003 gmc sierra 2500hd fairly hard to avoid an accident.i slowed down enough to avert another car, but the anti-lock brakes failed to engage and brake fluid exploded all over my engine.my brakes no longer worked after this initial braking.pedal went to the floor. Had to use emergency brake to stop and get towed.very close call.

During an emergency stop on highway from approx. 45mph, due a tractor trailer suddenly stopping, abs brake system started to fluctuate, but truck did not stop normally. Avoided collision by veering to side of road. Left front brake line, at clip near wheel, leaked brake fluid thereby preventing quick stop. Brake pedal went to floor afterwards, there was seemed to be no secondary hydraulic system pressure for rear brakes. Emergency brake was hardly effective.turns out all brake lines are severely corroded in nearly all areas, even under hood. Truck has 50,000 miles and is 6 years old. Have also previously experienced sudden power steering failure due to power steering line corrosion and fluid loss. Power steering system provides hydraulic boost for brakes, therefore brakes are impacted also.brake and power steering lines seem to be made of steel with incorrect or poor alloys, thereby acting like a sacrificial anode on the truck, as evidenced by the rust throughout the lines, vs. Localized rust. Brake lines and power steering lines have been replaced. Still have several rusty lines for inspection if needed.

I was traveling down the road at approx ~30 miles an hour approaching an intersection with a red light.i went to apply the brakes, the pedal depressed with no resistance and no braking response.i applied the brakes harder, with pedal all the way down and received light brake response, enough to stop the vehicle just short of the intersection.i took the truck to an ase-certified napa auto center, where the diagnosis was that the brake lines were completely corroded, as well as the emergency brake cables.the corrosion of the brake lines/cable resulted in significant loss of brake fluid, and rendered the emergency brake useless.the total cost of repair is upwards of $1800.00there was no advanced warning of this failure--no warning lights appeared before or after the failure.this could have been catastrophic and feel that this is a design, assembly or materials flaw that puts public safety at risk.

My truck only has half of it's braking power. The brake pads are rusted to the slides & have not moved for a very long time the rotors on all 4 wheels are completelyengulfed in rust. These are the original brakes. I took the truck to gmc for service [oil change] & they stated the rear rotors were "very rusty". I asked the serviceman what to do & he said either i needed to have the rotors turned or the brakes would wear out prematurely. It is obvious to me now [after looking at the brakes personally] that they were not working or the rotors wouldn't be rusty at all. There was never anything said about the brakes not working or the extreme safety issue of a 3/4 ton truck going down the road with only half of it's braking power. I talked to the bbb and they said when i took the truck in it had 48000 miles on it & was out of warranty. I have no doubt that this situation started before the warranty expired but i was not aware of it. My truck is a 2003 and i take very good care of it [serviced regularly and garage kept] and there is no reason the brakes should have rusted this way unless inferior parts or workmanship is involved. I know two other people with similar trucks and one of them has exactly the same problem as mine. We looked at his after i discovered my problem. He, as i, were unaware of this dangerous problem. I think there are a lot of general motors trucks out there with this same problem that people are unaware of. I believe there should be a recall or at least an independent study on this potentially deadly situation before someone dies if they haven't already. Hydraulic brakes failed without warning while driving on a back road pulling the trailer with a 500 lb mower in the trailer.brake fluid poured from the behind the driver door under from the frame near the fuel filter and brake line distribution block.front brake lines replaced one year ago after an accident where the brakes also failed and front brake lines replaced. 2003 gmc sierra 2500 4wd with about 40k mileage.brake failure has occurred twice with this vehicle...i have another car, dodge grand caravan with 97k and no brake line problems.stays in the same driveway and drives the same roads.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500.the contact stated that when applying the brakes, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The contact then discovered that the brake lines were rusted.the dealer was not informed and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the vehicle was repaired.the current mileage was 70,000 and the approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

Both front abs sensors failed due to corrosion, causing increased stopping distance.

Brake lines are all corroded and rusty.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. The contact stated while driving 35 mph and applying the brake they extended to the floor. He also saw smoke underneath the hood. He drove into a parking lot, checked under the hood and notice that the brake line was broken and sprayed fuel on top of the exhaust. The vehicle wasdriven to his home. The contact notified the dealer who stated there were no recalls related to the failure and the vehicle will be repaired at the owners expense. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 83,000.

Rupture brake line above gas tank just applying depressing the brake pedal causing one brake line to rupture from rust.

Corroded brake lines.

On 09-30-2011 as i left my residence i got approximately one block away and started down a small but steep hill that intersects with an other subdivision street. At that intersection there is a stop sign, when i applied the brakes to slow for the stop sign the brake pedal went to the floor. I tried pumping the brakes and still had very little to no brakes. There were no other vehicle in the area, and was able to gear down and ended up slowing going into the intersection where i finally got the vehicle stopped. I was able to get the truck back to the house by going very slow in low gear and using the parking brake. Upon parking the truck and inspecting the system, found the brake fluid level was low. Upon further inspection i found fluid on the ground under the drives seat area. On checking i found the brake lines in the area of the brake controller area were extremely rusted and the line going to the rear brakes had rusted through. I will have all the brake lines to and from the brake controller replaced this week due to the extremely poor condition of the lines from the rust.

On 9/17/2010 while on my way to work i was cut off by another vehicle when i applied my brakes and the system went into abs mode the vehicle stopped. However after that stop i lost brake pedal pressure. After checking the vehicle i found that the brake line blew out as a result of the stop. I found that the brake line had split. The vehicle i was driving is a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd.

The brakes failed when i tried to stop. The truckwas taken a auto repair shop. They told me the brake lines had failed due to rust. The brake lines from the master cylinder and the hydraulic pump had to be replaced. The brake lines from the hydraulic pump and the front wheels had to replaced also.

Brake pedal went to floor at 10 mph from failed brake line, due to excess corrosion on brake lines.

The brake line on my 2003 gmc sierra ruptured from corrosion between the anti-lock brake controller and the right front tire.the rupture was right in front of the fire wall.i was driving the truck and heard a release of what i thought was air from air brakes, this occurred on two occasions less than a minute apart.i new the noise was from my truck but i wasn't sure from where.i put the truck in park at a traffic light and walked around the truck and determined i didn't have a low tire.with the truck still in park i pressed on the brakes, which led to the brake line rupturing.i saw steam from the brake fluid that sprayed onto the manifold.i was able to return safely to my home, which was less than two miles from where i stopped the truck.i visually inspected my brake lines and saw corrosion in the area of the brake line rupture.

Driving down driveway brake pedal went to floor ran into snow bank unable to stop.

While driving up to an intersection i applied the brakes and the pedal dropped to the floor, no brakes. The cross traffic was approachingat 50 mph, and my road stopped so i had to make a left or right.luckily, by some miracle the oncoming traffic just missed slamming into me. I have never received anything from gm asking for me to have the brake lines checked, even though i see online that i am far from alonewiththis problem. I see you started investigating this issue in 2010 - why haven't you done anything about this?i was almost killed and no one is warning owners of gm trucksi guess when the government owns part of gm they don"t have to worry about recalls.......the consumer stated the reason the brakes failed, were due to rusted out brake lines.

Took truck to dealer for other work and they reported to me the line was leaking and about to rupture. I have 2 jeep products , both in the late 80's with original brake lines and they are fine. You would think that a "younger vehicle would be up to the task of lasting longer than 9 yrs. I've owned older cars and trucks and have never seen anything like this, even my 1964 chevy c-10 didn't have this problem and i sold it in 1991 . A co-worker bought my old chevy and at the 30 year mark for it, the brake lines were fine.i believe that along with the manufacture the government should be held accountable also, they allow this subpar equipment on the roads and highways to carry our kids and families, do you think obama's kids would be subjected to danger in this manner. If the director of nhtsa had a failure of this caliber he or she'd be all over this demanding and enforcing a recall .

Brake line rupture, 2003 gmc sierra 2500hd pickup.total loss of braking while stopping for traffic at 60 mph.all lines were rotted and had to replaced.crash was avoided because other cars realized i had lost braking and moved out the way.did not report until now(dec 2010) because i thought it was an isolated incident. Now finding out that it is prevalent, so much, that i have warned friends about it and am finding it to be quite common.

Fortunately i was in my driveway when my brake pedal went to the floor. I had it towed and the mechanic replaced a line. He went for a road test and another line blew out. This was fixed and i was told that all of the lines look bad and it would be $700 to replace all and this seemed to be common on the chevy and gmc trucks. This truck is garage kept - why would all of the brake lines be bad? this is a gmc sierra 2500hd extended cab 4wd truck.

1) abs speed sensor corrosion causing an unsafe braking situation at speeds below 10 mph.2) failure occurs every braking situation when below 10 mph3) 2003 model year not included in current recall by gmc .

While applying brakes in traffic brake pedal went to floor and truck would not stop.brake line underneath vehicle was corroded and burst, causing brake fluid leak.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the brakes were depressed, but the vehicle did not stop until coasting into a tree. The contact also stated that the vehicle was not destroyed and he did not consider the incident to be a crash. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the failure diagnostic test indicated that the abs system failed to operate sufficiently. The manufacturer was notified and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 41,692 and the current mileage was 41,750. Updated 09/21/11*ljthe dealer repalced the left and front speed sensor.updated 11/04/11

Started feeling less braking power and squealing at 25000 miles on the odometer. Took truck to dealer to check it , found rear brakes to be 100% wore out. Rear rotors are flaking apart.

Vehicle started to make noise. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to have the tires checked.front tire axle nut was found to be loose.also, the rotors and bearingshad to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. When i apply my brakes they release themselves just as if i let off the pedal and i have to press harder to stop. This does not happen every time but when it does it's scary. This has been going on since oct. Of2006 and still doing so. Is there a recall on this ?

2003 gmc sierra denali with brake line failure problems.*tgwthe consumer complained of a very soft pedal and sometimes the pedal would go to the floor before stopping. The dealer claimed nothing was wrong. The consumers wife was driving the vehicle and when she applied the brakes, on an incline, she traveled backwards out of control and struck the neighborhood sign. She experienced neck and back pain. The consumer arrived at the scene to find massive amounts of brake fluid dripping down the frame from one of the brake lines located on the drivers side.the consumer was informed the brake lines had excessive corrosion and failed.the consumer stated when he attempted to stop, the brakes completely failed. The brake lines were rusted with a hole completely through.the consumer stated the right rear brake line was replaced under warranty. The second time the incident happened the dealer replaced the entire brake line system.

2003 gmc2500hd durmax truck. When you apply brakes hard the steering locks up and you can't turn. Gm saysthis is standard operating for this truck. This truck has abs. Abs gives you the ability to steer while breaking. This is hard to do when steering locks up. Gm has said there is no problem. There are 3 other trucks all gmc or chevy in my town with the same problem. All of us have gotten the same responce from gm. Call bbb dont call us.

Power steering cooler and lines rusted through and leaking, engine oil cooler lines rusted through and leaking, transmission oil cooler lines rusted through and leaking.all had to be replaced. Work donea t gmc dealer.

The 4x4 wheel drive came on. Dealer notified. Please provide further information.ph

2003-? gmc truck, steering intermediate shaft. Had shaft replaced at 17,000 miles due to rattle and thumping in steering column. Replaced again at 53,000 miles. Possible loss of vehicle control due to manufacture, engineering or design. Problem not corrected by gm only replaced with same type of shaft. Upon online search, i discovered numerous other consumers that have/had the same problem with gmc trucks, vans, suvs, etc.

Steering column rattle.have had service on at least 6 occasions, all proving unsuccessful.fixes have been either lube injection, or replacement of intermediary shaft.no fix has lasted longer than 5,000 miles.

Looseness in the steering shaft.

2003 gmc 3/4 ton pickup. Problem with intermediate steering shaft. Have a 1999 gmc 3/4 ton that the shaft has been replaced 6 times. Son has a 2001 tahoe that has had the intermediate shaft replaced two times. When will someone make them get this fixed it is a safety problem.

The contact owns a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 hd. The contact stated that the entire bottom of the truck bed was rusted, including the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (freedom chevrolet, 7052 w 48th st, fremont, mi 49412, 321-403-0016) where it was diagnosed that cheap metal was used on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not provide any additional information. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Front bumper is rusting, within the first 3 months of ownership / less than 6,000 miles.*nlm

The front and rear bumpers have rusted so bad that they have big holes in them. I was told i have to replace them both before i can get an inspection sticker on the pick up, at the cost of over $1000.00 for parts and labor. I have seen many more pick ups with the same rusted bumpers. Is there a recall for bumper replacement on these pickups??

I have a 2003 sierra pickup 4x4, 64,000 miles. It has never been off road. 4 wheel drive has only been engaged less than a dozen times since the vehicle was purchased.i am the original owner. Mileage has been approx 50/50 between highway and city driving. On a recent trip from prescott az to phoenix az, the passenger side hub assembly failed on 2003 gmc sierra pickup; 2500hd with duramax diesel engine. Once hub assembly failed, the right front axle broke and basically allowed for the wheel to become detached from the vehicle.the hub assembly failed without warning and had it failed approx 10-15 miles earlier it would have resulted in loss of control of the vehicle coming down the mountains between prescott az and pheonix az.the vehicle has been maintained according to factory specifications. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer i purchased it from; peoria pontiac gmc, peoria, az. The service department diagnosed the hub assembly failure and axle breakage on the passenger side.i asked them to check the driver's side hub assembly; it was also bad. I asked the service person if there was some additional maintenance that i could have done to prevent this problem. The response was a disconcerting no; this just seems to happen on some of the pickups.i have paid to have both front hub assemblies replaced and the passenger axle; approx $2500.my bigger concern is first that 65000 city & highway miles seems pretty low for a failure point of something so critical as the steering and control of the vehicle. Secondly that there is apparently no fix or additional explanation of how to avoid this problem on this vehicle. My immediate suspicion is that gm inadequate hub assemblies on their diesel pickups and are not able to handle the additional stresses of the heavy weights and torques, etc. I was traveling with my elderly parents and we were literally lucky that the failure occurred on a flat open area of road and i was able to get the vehicle to a safe stop.

Vehicle started to make noise. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to have the tires checked.front tire axle nut was found to be loose.also, the rotors and bearingshad to be replaced.

On sierra 1500 hd, rear leaf spring washers routinely come loose and fall off, causing rear springs to slap excessively, causing rear of vehicle to shake excessively, making it more difficult to steer.

The horn quits working and this creates a huge safety issue. Online search shows this is a common problem and the dealer is unable to fix it.

The speedometer, tachometer, and other gauges on my 2003 gmc sierra 2500hd instrument cluster are defective. This is a well known universal problem with gm products.

Issue with throttle body reduced engine power when driving throws out check engine light. Thousand of people have this same issue most have just stopped driving their vehicle like i have because it's unsafe to drive. I hoping not just for me but everyone out there with this same issue to get a recall before it kills someone. I haven't been able to drive my truck in three years.

I keep getting reduced engine powerp1516 code . Reading the post's on the internet this is a real common problem.also the speedometer will display 120 mph sitting at a traffic light.

While driving in rain with wipers on intermittent, they suddenly ran full-time and would not shut off.only way to turn off wipers is pull the fuse.with fuse out, wipers do not work at all, and driver's door must be opened to access fuse area.this is a hazard, as wipers are not available while driving without opening door.

The thermometer in the mirror that reads the outside temperature does not work properly when the snowplow is attached to the vehicle. When snowplowing, it is critical to know the freezing point, and is the time that the thermometer is needed the most.giving an inaccurate temperature (above freezing when it is really below freezing) will cause skidding accidents.the dealer and the gmc factory have acknowledged the "design defect" but have failed to correct it or offer a refund for the cost of the thermometer option. Dealer has replaced tempertature sensor, but its location is what prevents it from working when the snowplow is attached. I have asked the dealer to relocate the sensor, but they said they cannot alter the vehicle's design.this is a design defect on all 2003 & 2004 gmc pick up trucks with snowplows attached, and yet gmc has offered to do nothing about it. Bear in mind, these vehicles are being marketed with "cold climate" packages and dealer installed snowplows.a skidding accident can and will result when the thermometer reads 45 degrees farenheit and it is actually 28 degrees farenheit outside.
