Takata recall:a crack has appeared on the dash leading to the air bag on passenger side!my concern is that this may affect deployment of the air bag, and or cause pieces of dash to become shrapnel!

There are 4 cracks in the dash of the truck and 1 on the corner of the passenger side airbagmy concern is if the passenger air bag deployed it could potentially send plastic flying projectiles and cause bodily injury or worse loss of vision.gm has not had a recall because they claim its not a safety concern but there must be a test performed in order to raise a safety concern or wait till someone gets hurt

This truck is four years old, has 30,000 miles, is garage kept (never parked in the sun) and the dash has cracked near the air bag area. I am concerned the deployment of the airbag could be affected by the cracked dash.

Dashboard cracking around airbag on passenger side and instrument panel on driver side. The thin brittle plastic may be a hazzard with an airbag deployment.

Dashboard on passenger side airbag is cracking.

Service airbag light will not turn off. While driving.

Dashboard cracked over instrument panel and airbag side.

Dashboard surrounding airbag and instrument cluster is cracking and essentially disintegrating.if my airbag deploys or i'm involved in a collision these sharp plastic fragments will become a safety hazard.this truck has 38k miles and is in otherwise pristine condition with zero scratches on the interior parts aside from these dash cracks.the plastic is protected every three months at least with aerospace 303 and protected from sunlight when not in use.this is not a maintenance issue, it's a structural defect.thousands of these vehicles are affected.

Dashboard is cracking around passenger-side airbag. The plastic is sharp and brittle, and i'm concerned that sharp shards of plastic would go everywhere if the airbag deployed. This is an extremely well-cared for vehicle that could pass for 'new condition' other than this dashboard issue.

Dash has cracked around passenger safety bag.

Dashboard has cracked in multiple places.in a crash or airbag inflation, loose shards of dashboard plastic may become hazardous flying debris or they may puncture and/or cut the airbag preventing proper airbag inflation and decreasing the airbag's effectiveness.

I noticed getting into my truck today that i had cracks in my dash in two spots.one crack is above my instrument panel on the drivers side and the other is on the passengers side, running to where my passenger side airbag deploys from.after doing some research online this appears to be a trend that has affected other gm owners.i'm concerned that if the airbags were to deploy either they'd cut into the bags causing them to not deploy properly, and/or, send shards of sharp plastic flying through the vehicles cabin--both situations could have serious/catastrophic consequences.

The dash is cracked, there are two cracks where the air-bag is, which could possibly interfere with the deployment of the air-bag. This problem is widespread and involves several models and several years. I contacted the dealership and also general motors and they refuse to do anything to fix it.several people replaced their dashes at their expense only to have those crack also.

Tl an independent mechanic called on behalf of the owner of a 2012 gmc sierra 1500. While driving 30 mph, the front and rear driver side curtain air bags deployed on their own and the air bag warning indicator was illuminated. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to an auto body shop to have the air bags repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 113,067. *ln

Dash has cracked from the passenger side airbag to the front of dash cap and along instrument cluster to the front of dash cap. This can easily cause a problem should the airbag go off. At this point i believe the center of the dash would shatter sending shrapnel to every direction inside the truck should the airbag go off or a collision. For me to replace this is going to cost $1000.00 this is gmc's responsibility for poor engineering and poor quality. They should fix this before someone gets seriously hurt or killed! i shouldn't have to spend $1000.00 on a $60,000.00 truck because the dash isn't supported properly to keep from falling apart. Besides, why spend $1000.00 on a new one when it's just going to crack again. Structural flaw!!

While driving to work one morning an error message flashed engine reduced power, stability control loss. Truck struggled to accelerate. Has happened several times since november 2015 on city streets or highways can happen at any time. I had to replace entire system from throttle body to the pedal assembly have found out that this is common problem that gm knows about along with the cracks in the dash around air bag on passenger side and the instrument cluster and refuses to recall and fix cracks in air bag housing could pose a safety hazard along with loss of engine power from faulty wiring.

Airbag recall

There is a crack on the dashboard right beside the passenger airbag on the inboard side. As the driver, i am worried that a shard of plastic could explosively tear through my skull, killing me, in the event of airbag deployment. Gmc needs to fix this potentially dangerous problem before someone gets killed!!!!

The stability track control came on and i took it back to a gmc dealer to have it checked. I had extended warranty and they covered it. The problem was they took 9 days to find out what was wrong. I was out 9 days without my vehicle.the light continues to come back on and now i have to take it back. It occurs when i am on the street moving.

My engine has a tick,,brought it to a shop he told me lifters and its expensive...went to dealer,,, told me i need lifters 2600.00 to fix itand apparently my lifter isn't gettingoil in it , "from active fuel management" with i have read all over internet that its a huge problem and people have to pay to fix,,,but wont fix the issue do to the fact the afm cuts the cylinders off causing the lifter to not get the oil

On 26mar2017 i noticed a ticking noise coming from my vehicle. I took it to the dealership 27mar2017 and was told that i needed a new flywheel. I wanted a second opinion because i have never heard of a flywheel going bad in my life. After speaking with a few mechanics we all agreed that it was not the flywheel. On 4apr i took my vehicle to another dealer who confirmed that the ticking was the flywheel. The flywheel had to have been defective at time of manufacturing. It just cracked for no good reason other than it was poorly made. 2012 gmc sierra 1500 flywheel just cracked out of nowhere endangering the lives of an entire family and who knows who else if it had shattered.the vehicle was ticking after a morning start while sitting idle.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle hesitated. The contact drove the vehicle to the dealer thinking that it needed a tune up. The dealer diagnosed that the camshaft and uplifters needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. .....updated 08/11/16 the consumer also stated there was an issue with transmission. Updated 08/17/16

I have been smelling a strong odor of gas coming thru my air vents while my vehicle is running, particularly while i am idling and just after acceleration.my mechanic stated he has repaired several of these issues on other gmc's.the problem is the top of the fuel tank is rusted where the fuel pump is located and gas sprays upwards onto the bottom side of the bed and is very costly and difficult to repair.i'm sure gm is aware of the problem, however, they have chosen to ignore the issue.this is most definitely a safety issue!

When vehicle starts moving foreward from a dead stop and when automatic transmission shifts from 1st gear to second gear there is a hard clunk.this has been happening since 15000 miles.when i bring to dealer ,they want to keep truck ,leaving me without vehicle.wife and i were on major hwy and had to shut vehicle down in traffic to stop the clunk.very dangerous situation.

Transmission surges when gas pedal is pushed hard as in trying to engage kickdown or "passing gear". Speed is not a factor, it happens at low speed and higher speeds. Depending on speed, truck jerks suddenly and almost stalls out. Sometimes rear tires chirp.seems similar to the 8 speed transmission problems later years have experienced.

On cold morning starts, front brake pads will engage rotor, and release very slowly. Then on a turn, front pads will engage, lock for a short time, and then slowly release. Seems like engine has to warm up before brakes act normal. After cold morning startup, before moving vehicle, if brake pedal is pumped repeatedly for 30 seconds, brakes will try to act normal, when vehicle is moved.i am on my 2nd set of front pads and rotors. 1st set were severally worn. Tech said it looks like your calipers were sticking.

While driving the truck on a country road, it started to pull towards the right. I tried to correct by steering to the left. My steering wheel just spun and had no control of the front wheels. Ithe steering shaft became disengage from the axel. I crashed into trees and my truck was declared a total loss. This happened on 9/27/2020. I am waiting for the police report and the inspection results from the insurance company.

The contact owns a 2012 gmc sierra 1500. While driving in reverse and exiting a parking space, the power steering malfunctioned and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. After shutting the vehicle off and restarting the engine, the power steering operated normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure and diagnose the cause of the malfunction. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 36,000. The vin was invalid. Consumer stated steering wheel failure happened again on nov.27,2018 and remained locked. After consumer restarted the vehicle the steering wheel became unlocked. Vin is invalid.

During normal vehicle operation (while driving on a state highway) the dashboard adjacent to the passenger air bag cracked. It is on the back left corner of the framework around the air bag cover on the windshield side. I do not store anything on top of the dashboard and always use an aluminized sunscreen protector in the windshield 9 out of 12 months. I do not know what caused the crack to occur (unknown cause).

Dashboard has two cracks. Each crack is about 2 inches long. One of them is on the left side, about 12 inches from the steering wheel. The other crack is on the top-left corner outside of the airbag area. The cracks have been getting bigger in the last few weeks. It appears that if an airbag were to deploy, the sharp end of the cracked dashboard could cause significant injury rather than protection. Normal driving conditions caused it. No known objects have been placed on dashboard to exert such force to cause it to break.

Fender wells rusting out.

The cracks in my dash will be a safety issue when the air bags deploy. I can't believe that gmc hasn't done a recall on these dashes yet. During the airbag recall they will crack the dash even worse making this problem extremely dangerous. It has the potential to cause loss of life. Also on the other hand this devalues the resale price of the car.

The dash is cracked over the airbag and the crack is growing

Cracks on both sides of dash board

The dash cover panel over the instrument cluster and passenger side airbag has cracked and has begun to come apart in pieces.i have contacted a local dealer and they have informed me the recall on the passenger side airbag replacement does not cover replacement of the cracked dash cover.the dash cover has begun to produce large jagged pieces where it has cracked that in my view pose a safety threat should an accident occur.the failing dash could produce shrapnel in an accident that could cause serious face lacerations or eye trauma.gm needs to provide a replacement recall on the dash panel.

Dashboard on passenger side airbag is cracking.

Passenger door handle somehow became disengagedand just fulls out loosely. Have to get in and open from inside. It appears to have a plastic hook on the handel that must have disengaged from something inside the door.door hardly gets used. Is this acovered problem???

Dash cracked on passenger side above air bag.it cracked when the vehicle was parked, and was running to heat the vehicle with the heater and defrost.interior temperature was set to 75, outside temperature was around 35.dash crack extends from the air bag which appears to cause a safety issue.

I have a truck with less then 44000 miles and has developed a crack in the dash right above the passenger airbag. My concern will be what going to happen when my truck is involved in a wreck and the passenger air bag deploys. Pretty sad that all the money the federal government gave gm they couldn't build a vehicle that lasts.

Got in the truck a year ago and noticed a crack in my dash above the instrument cluster, after further inspection i notice 2 more cracks both by the passenger airbag.this happened at around 55,000 miles.this vehicle was stationary at the time i noticed the cracks

Dash cracked next to airbag on passenger side of dash while i was driving on interstate 37 north of corpus christi, tx.

Dashed cracked near air bag

Dash is cracked around passenger air bag

Dash cracks have developed on the dashboard around the passenger airbag. My concern is if the airbag is deployed in an accident, pieces from the surrounding cracked dash may be sent flying towards the occupants of the vehicle.

Cracked dashboard - the dashboard on my 2012 gmc sierra 1500 series truck has cracked on both the driver and passenger side.now, due to the severe cold, the crack on the driver's side is expanding due to the expansion and contraction of the plastic thru interior heating and rapid cooling of the vehicle.these cracks occurred during normal driving conditions on state highways and interstates.

Dashboard has cracked over the instrument panel.this single piece extends over to the passenger airbag.

The drivers side inside door handle broke off. After reaching down to open the door from the inside the metal attached to the handle snapped off and i was left holding the plastic handle and unable to open my door from the inside. The metal is made from a bimetal product and appears to be fragile and lite for the purposes of opening the door. Incase of an emergency this could have been a life threating situation. After searching on-line this appears to be a problem many consumers are having with their gmc vehicles. I was parked in a parking lot when this occurred, i did not put undo pressure on the handle.

The dash has cracked at the corner of the passenger side air bag and another crack has formed above the instrument cluster on the driver side. Both cracks have formed in the last 6 months beginning with the one at the passenger side air bag. The truck is in great condition with only 55,000 miles at this time.

I purchased this truck with all 4 tires goodyear wrangler at/s 265/70 r17dot number 4bt6 fder 3411 on august 19,2016. I have had a shaky/bumpy sensation since i bought the truck & the tires always wore uneven. The mileage on the vehicle was 47,541 at the time of purchase. On february 15, 2016 at a mileage of roughly 60,440 two of the tires had belts break. I had the tires checked by multiple repair places & was told that it is a tire defect. Dealership refused to replace tires. I bought 4 new tires of a different brand. I am unsure of the mileage put on the tires before my purchase, but i only put around 13,000 miles on them before the iccurance.
