Takata recall - nhtsa recall #16v381called the gm customer assistance center toll-free line in july 2016, they recommended me to take my vehicle to the nearest gmc dealer. Took my truck to powell watson gmc dealer in laredo, texas on july 2016 and they informed me that gm had not yet figured out a replacement part and that a replacement part was not available at the time. Again on jan 2, 2017, i took my truck to the same dealer for the same issue and they responded to me that there was no cure for the safety air bag issue that my truck was being brought in. The gmc dealer was not giving me eta on the replacement part. And the safety concern was not being resolved.

2010 gmc sierra.consumer writes in regards to steering wheel noises and recall notice 16v-381 issues.the consumer stated there was a whispering sound coming from the steering wheel.
Noticed a crack developed in the dash, at the passenger airbag seam, shortly after the bumper to bumper warranty ended. Still had roughly a year left on the powertrain warranty when the issue occurred. The dealer stated that there was no recall or anything they could do, but also stated that they had seen many trucks with this same issue. 3 years old and the dash has already cracking??? concerned there may be an issue, if the airbag ever has to deploy. Would have reported it sooner, if i knew about this sight.
Takata recall - in addition to the widespread airbag safety issue, i am among the many, many other 2010 gmc sierra truck owners who have a cracked dash. The crack begins on thefront, left side ofpassenger side airbag compartment, and extends to the front of the dash (towards the windshield). With so many complaints about this, coupled with the fact that this could potentially be a fatal defect, one would think that an nhtsa sponsored investigation and a recall would have already been issued by now! i mean, it's only been 6 years!!!!

My dashboard has cracked around the passenger side airbag and on top of the driverside dash. I am afraid that the cracks around the airbag are a safety hazard for my family. Both cracks are growing rapidly.vehicle has less than 44,000 miles and is in excellent condition.
The dash is cracked at the passenger airbag and poses a safety issued in the event of deployment.airbag deployment could cause plastic shards to be propelled causing injury.

Upper dashboard cracked along airbag location on passenger side - top left corner of air bag.car was parked, crack was just there when i entered the vehicle one morning...not just once but twice.apparently the dashboard cracks just after the third year and re-occurs with replacement dashboards as well (all dashboards are defective, including the replacements).note:exact same crack and location as many others reported on facebook group forum page (07-13 gm cracked dash safety hazard for all trucks).

Passenger air bag light went on indicating that the air bag was not functional.took the vehicle to an independent repair shop and they could not diagnose the problem.then took it to a gmc dealer and they determined that it was due to loss of power to the air bag module attributed to corrosion within the under-hood fuse block.
Around 37,000 miles a crack appeared on the passenger side dash, around the passenger airbag.there are now 3 cracks around the airbag and these cracks could potentially result in a tear in the airbag during deployment, rendering the airbag ineffective in preventing injury during an accident.from online searches, it appears this might have been a design issue on the 2010 model that was fixed starting with the 2011 trucks.the dealer informed me that there is no recall.i feel that due to the possible safety issue associated with this, the dashes for this model year of sierra should be fixed by gm.
My dash is cracked about 2 incheslong on corner by airbagwhent do dealer said nothing they can do
Takata recall in july 2016, i received a letter from gmc stating that my 2010 gmc sierra 1500 was built with defective takata airbags.i have called crabtree buick gmc in bristol, va., once in 2016 and again in summer of 2017 and parts aren't available at this time for installation.i would seriously like to have the newer, safer airbag inflators installed asap!!

Takata recall. Contacted dealer in 2016 regarding airbag replacement and told none available at the time. Never received any further word from any one.
My vehicle has been under a recall for many years and still no repairs have been completed by gm
The dash of the vehicle has cracked around the forward edge of the passenger-side airbag.i am concerned that pieces of the dash may become missile hazards in the event of an air bag deployment. This vehicle has only been subjected to highway mileage.a cursory search of the internet for causes of the crack revealed that this is an on-going issue for this model vehicle that is being ignored by the gm corporation.

Takata recall:receiced recall notice re airbags 8/9/16.dealership says no replacement parts are avail.received another notice 11/3/17from tk holdings that takata is going bankrupt and to contact the nearest dealership to schedule free repair.went to dealership 11/6/17...again told repair incomplete, remedy not available. This truck is almost 8 years old, has defective airbags and no remedy is available.!!!
Dashboard cracked around the airbag openings.this seems to be a common problem and may affect proper airbag deployment or cause the dash to fragment and hit occupants in a collision.the problem was noticed just after the warranty expired.the dealer would not correct, the problem continues to get worse.the vehicle is not exposed to any extreme temperature changes or prolonged sun exposure as it reside in the state of maryland which experiences 4 rather mild seasons.this is well documented but unresolved problem with these gm vehicles.
Takata recall,i have received the recall notice on my truck and have called three dealerships but no one is willing to help with a loaner until repairs can be made. They all say my vehicle is safe to drive. I understand humidity plays a roll in the air bags. I live in mena ar. We get between 50 and 60 inches of rain yearly with high humidity and after 5 + years living here i have a very large concern for my family'ssafety. I do not want to put them at risk for injury or possible death, because of a faulty air bag. Please can you help us get a drivable vehicle until they can repair ours.
Takata recall received recall but no parts available to repairdealer states no updates only from customers
Takata recall.there are no parts to fix my airbags.i live in a hot and humid environment and would like to have the problem fixed.they have not failed yet nor i have i been in an accident where they might be deployed, but i feel like i am driving with a loaded time bomb.takata is in bankruptcy and there will be no resources to fix the problem.i am getting tired of letters and postcards but not action.

Takata recall
Takata recall:this recall has been out there since 2015 and there still is no manufacturers remedy for the affected air bags and now they're bankrupt.now what?
Takata recall i see my truck has a safety recall, but there is no resolution. This does not make me feel like it is very safe. Please make this company fix the recalled air bags. Nothing has happened yet, why do i have to wait until myself or a family member is hurt or killed to fix a known issue?
Instrument panel has crack (broken) connecting the defrost/valence panel and airbag door.concern involves shards of plastic/projectiles in the event of an airbag deployment.
"takata recall"-service air bag light stays on.

Takata recall the passenger side air bag has a recall and there is no repair solution so i am driving a unsafe truck. I was sold this truck through lief johnson ford i would very much like this situation fixed. Thank you
My 2010 gmc sierra has 47,000 miles on it, primarily sits in a temperature controlled garage, and has 3 cracks in the dash. Two of the cracks happned while sitting stationary in the garage. Two of the cracks are connected to the air bag creating a hazard. Gmc nor the dealer will take care of this considering a lot of complaints by other owners.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. After starting the vehicle, the air bag indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to yates buick gmc (13845 w test dr, goodyear, az 85338) where it was diagnosed that a crimped wire leading to the air bag had caused a short, and the wire needed to be replaced. The dealer also stated that if the indicator illuminated after the repair, the air bag would also need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would replace the air bag at a reduced cost. The approximate failure mileage was 58,500.
I received a recall from gmc on the airbag issue. Dated july 2016, i have heard nothing from anybody on this.
Dash is cracked at forward left corner of passenger airbag opening and right front corner of instrument cluster area. Extreme concern that. In the case of airbag deployment, pieces of the plastic dash could puncture the airbag and/or become flying shrapnel/debris causing serious injury or death to the passenger.
When talking with the dealership they stated takata has not come up with a resolution.so there are no airbags for them to install. We received the first notice back in july 2016.
Takata recall. Dashboard began cracking on both drivers side and passengers side. Dealership said it was a common problem on their vehicles and used to have a solution in place where the customer would pay $100 and the manufacturer would pay the rest to have it replaces but had since done away with that deal. I imagine cause it was costing them more than they had thought.asked if my extended warranty would cover it and after speaking to a representative it was determined that the extended warranty also did not cover this defect.
The dash on my truck began cracking at around 36,000 miles and i was told that there was nothing that could be done as my truck was outside of the warranty coverage.since then i have had many additional cracks and have heard that the cracked dash ends up breaking apart and becoming shrapnel in the vehicle in the event of an airbag deployment.this is a common issue on these vehicles and i think gm should offer recall and initiate a free or reduced cost replacement of these dash panels to prevent injuries.
Dash crack around passenger airbag which could damage airbag or become shrapnel in an accident.this is my 2nd dash that cracked in the same location.
Takata recall gm has done nothing to alleviate this problem. At least 10 people have been killed by these defective airbags and thousands more have been injured. It is past time for the nhtsa to get into action and force gm to repair these defects.
Not able to locate a gmc dealer that has the parts to address the recall.
Tl-contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra --- received tk holdings letter --- had not contacted gm regarding air bag replacement ---- contact was in accident when vehicle was six months old and drivers side airbag deployed in accident... Vehicle was fixed due to low mileage and vehicle only being six months old...... Side air bag also deployed in accident... Contact took truck back to gm and gm stated nothing was wrong with unsown airbag....1recallsassociated with this vin... Cb

Takata recallhave known that our truck is "unsafe" for almost 2 years and repeatedly get told no fix is available yet.local news reports even have stories about consumers not heeding recalls....we would love to get this fixed, but it is unacceptable that nothing is available 2 years later
Cracked dashboard - dashboard is deteriorating.numerous cracks.vehicle is parked in the shade 90% of the time and only has 23,000 miles on it.it has never been in any accident.there is a dashboard crack next to the airbag on the dashboard.my concern is with the takata inflators and potential shrapnel produced from the rotting dashboard becoming airborne during an accident.there is a website that shows the majority of these gm dashboards are defective and falling apart beyond cosmetic appearance.what kind of safety testing has been done in relation to cracked dashboards causing injuries?there should be a solution to the takata inflator issue and a recall on gm cracked plastic dashboards.it is past august of 2017 and i have heard nothing regarding the airbag issue solution.i no longer feel safe driving this vehicle.
Gmc does not have a fix or have a time line for fix
The 2010 gmc sierra ld 1500 had multiple premature failures associated with the electrical system. The failure were pertaining to the radio associated with an internal short from the instrument cluster/panel and the drivers side electronic function panel. Months after owning the vehicle, a failure progressed in which the driver was unable to use the function buttons for the windows and unable to lock or unlock the doors from the electronic function panel unless using the key fob to lock and unlock the doors. Only the front passenger and the rear passengers may wind the windows down due to the failure. The driver was only able to wind the window down on the drivers side due to the failure. In addition, the aux function shorted prematurely so when attempting to attach a device, it may or may not connect due to an internal electrical short in which it may not recognize the device(phone, mp3, tablet or ipad/ipod). An abnormal noise progressed from the front of the truck and upon a mechanics inspection, it was diagnosed that the upper control arm needed to be replaced, the drivers side window switch panel and recommended taking the vehicle further diagnostic testing on the internal electrical failures. There was also progression of premature rust under the frame in which the mechanic recommended coating the frame to prevent any further rusting under the vehicle. The vehicle was to be taken to the dealer for further testing and diagnosis. The approximate failure mileage was not available.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 55-60 mph, the instrument panel indicators flickered on and off, the tachometer and other gauges became inoperable, and the vehicle lost power. Additionally, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact pulled off of the roadway and shut off the vehicle. While attempting to restart the vehicle, the check engine and air bag warning indicators illuminated. When the positive terminal wire was removed from the battery and replaced, the vehicle started and operated normally. The vehicle was not diagnosed oor repaired. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer and dealer were not informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Hooked up a trailer (first time ever), discovered that the trailer lights were not working, checked fuses, found a melted fuse. Found a recall for same problem, however it is vin specific and vin is not covered. Took to dealership, and reported problem to gmc, was told to report it here. Also found a vin specific recall for the driver control button for the passenger window (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't) and again this vin is not covered.
My dash had 4 cracks in it. The part covering the passenger air bag is very in safe
Persistent burning of headlight bulbs. Numerous headlight bulb changes, wiring changed, housing changed, and light continues to burn out. Numerous owners of this year and model reporting the same occurrence. Very time consuming, costly, and irritating especially when cops become involved and hand out tickets.
Vehicle shuts off then turns back on randomly when driving door locks pop up and down. Vehicle looses all power
Life threatening safety problem:while merging into high-speed traffic on [xxx] in charlotte nc, my 2010 gmc sierra rapidly decelerated from approximately 65 mph to 10 mph. Two tractor-trailer trucks going at least 70 mph narrowly avoided rear-ending me . Only the lack of traffic on there right side prevented a major disaster.my dashboard showed a engine power is reduced/service traction control/service sabilitrak warnings, and the engine idled erratically as i maneuvered off the to the side of the highway. There was no throttle response. This engineer design put the safety and lives of many at risk by dumping engine power to what is the equivalent of slamming on the breaks at high speed without warning.in april 2018, approximately 8 months ago, i had the exact same problem while driving in my neighborhood road. An authorized dealer completed a $679 replacement of my throttle-body gasket and gas pedal assembly (see attached receipt). The truck drove without issue until this incident.i didn't think this was a serious safety issue because it did not happen at high speed. Now, i have the same problem occurring at a high rate of speed on the highway.finally, the dealer explains that there are multiple issues that can cause this malfunction and they are now completing another $600+ repair, replacing multiple parts (repair bill not yet available). Based on this troubleshooting and repair history, a consumer is never getting a guaranteed permanent fix for this problem. This begs the obvious question, of why is there a designed malfunction that jeopardizes safety in this manner?parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 40 mph through a snow bank, the check engine and traction warning indicators illuminated. The stability track indicator signaled the system to be off and needed servicing. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The contact spoke with a certified mechanic who stated that the throttle body, brake sensor switch, and faulty air intake system failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and directed the contact to nhtsa and/or the dealer. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 11,458.
While driving down a steep hill, lost engine power and truck speed was dramatically reduced.dash warning "reduced engine power" displayed. Could not accelerate. This could have resulted in a an accident because this situation caused difficulty controlling the vehicle.

Saturday, july 27, 2013, our 2010 gmc sierra k1500 caught fire and was completely destroyed as my husband was driving on the interstate.as smoke began to fill the cab and the "check engine" light came on, he attempted to brake so that he could escape, but the brakes were gone, and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.imagine his terror as he realized that at age 65, he may have to jump out of the truck or be consumed by a fire.he was able to down-shift to slow the truck enough to use the emergency brake to get the truck stopped just in time to escape from the truck and get far enough away to avoid bodily injury as the truck and our belongings burned completely.we are gravely concerned that the truck, which was purchased three years ago this month, and had only 18,000 miles on it, clearly was a risk to our lives and the lives of others.we have three adult children and seven grandchildren & often had one or more of them with us as we traveled in this vehicle.had we needed to unbuckle the babies from their car seats and/or assist the toddlers in getting out, the outcome may have been very different, and it haunts us to know that this could have been the case.all had ridden in this truck in the weeks preceding yesterday's fire. As my husband headed home to montana at the completion of his travel to visit our children and grandchildren, he ascended, then descended "lookout pass" on i-90 at the montana/idaho border - a pass that is steep and very busy with summer vacation travel as well as consistent heavy semi-truck travel.the curves on lookout are treacherous: the rate of accidents and semi-truck rollovers on the curves is high without an extraordinary event such as a burning vehicle.if our truck had caught fire even three or four miles earlier as he was descending the pass, the outcome is almost unthinkable.
At ~ 54,000 miles, the vehicle experienced increased oil consumption and lost compression on two cylinders. This vehicle has only been subjected to highway mileage of about 30 miles/day on average and has been properly maintained. The damage was to the extent that cylinders had to be replaced and it took the dealership 25 days to repair. A coworker had the same engine issue on his chevrolet silverado with the same 5.3 liter engine at ~ 45,000 miles. A cursory search of the internet will reveal that this is not an isolated incident.the overwhelming majority of owners comments that i have researched believe that it is caused by the active fuel management system failing to properly lubricate components when the engine cycles between 4 and 8 cylinders. Gm disavowed any knowledge of these incidents when contacted.the service department of my local gmc dealership disavowed any knowledge also although i presented them over a dozen pages of gm owners group web pages with description of the same engine failures.however, when their mechanic was questioned as to whether he was repairing the problem or merely exchanging damaged parts, he replied "it won't happen again, we do this all the time".this tells me that my vehicle is not the first that they have seen with this problem.
Active fuel management system failed as i was driving down the street.engine stuck in 4 cylinders.sounded like it was going to blow up it was rattling so loud.rapid loss of power and torque as a result.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the traction control and stabilizer warning indicators illuminated. The engine made a knocking noise and the vehicle failed to accelerate at the desired rpms when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact took the vehicle to jim faulk motors (1201 n 2nd st clinton, mo 64735; 660-956-0076 or 877-819-4482) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that, due to the warranty expiring, they were unable to assist with the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 178,000.
While the vehicle was in motion on a city street, the fuel management system failed almost causing me to be in an accident.the engine sounded like it was blowing up with metal on metal sounds, loss of control and power.i had my vehicle transported to an authorized mechanic and he determined the fuel management system had failed and the engine would have to be rebuilt.i spent over $3000 to have it repaired and it still leaks oil and has issues with providing correct engine power and control.it is not safe nor dependable.
As i was driving the truck seemed as if it turned off, all the gauges went down appearing of the truck was off and not running. The truck was still running, but the engine did not have power or acceleration. Continued to drive till i was at a safety zone. Turned it off and did not want to start no more i took the battery cable off and put it back jump start it and everything went back to normal.
Engine light came on - took to dealer - was told it was po455 code evap failure - evap vent valve stuck open. Was told that it was a known problem but not covered by gmc - cost $501.17
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that when the pistons were loose and struck the cylinder wall, it would loosen up the engine and caused an abnormal knocking from the engine. The dealer was notified of the failure who advised the contact that the failure was nothing to be concerned about and was not hurting the engine. The manufacturer was notified who stated to the contact that they would speak with the dealer to determine the remedy for the failure. There were no recalls for the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 24,000.updated 01/10/12*lj
The windshield and the side windows of my new 2010 gmc sierra 1500 wt, have an extreme tendency to fog over in temperatures near the freezing point. I have read, and observed, that the ac compressor becomes automatically disabled when the outside temperature gets near the freeze zone (i think the actual threshold is somewhere around 40 degrees f). With the ac disabled, the defrost mode cannot keep the windows clear. The problem is magnified when there are two or three individuals in the cab. At that point, it is exceedingly difficult to clear the side windows, even to the point that frost forms on the inside window surface! very recently, while traveling to work during my 40 mile commute, i was running the ac, with the temp control set to a comfortable level and the blower about the medium setting and flowing through the main vents. The outside temperature was, apparently, hovering near the point where the electronics disable the compressor. The windshield and both side windows fogged over suddenly. I noticed the ac light was out, so i switched to defrost mode and hi blower. The windshield did clear in about a minute or two, but all of that happened while driving down the turnpike at 70 mph. This seems to be a significant safety concern....at least for me and my family. If the ac compressor had stayed enabled, this would never have happened. It is very difficult to stop condensation buildup if you cannot run the ac to dry the cabin air. This design configuration seems to present an issue of safety. I am not sure if it is just this particular model. I suspect so, since it is the base model truck. We have a 2011 gmc terrain, which does not present this issue.i have contacted the dealer about this issue now for 3 years with no resolution.they act as though you are an idiot.
The first time was nov.2014 when the check engine light came on solid along with the traction control light engine power was reduced and the engine vibrated and would not go over 20 mph.i left the truck parked for 3 days and when cranked the truck all lights were off and the truck ran fine.once in dec. 2014and once in jan.2015 the solid check engine light came on but the truck ran fine and after a few days went off. The first week of feb. 2015 the check engine and traction control light came on engine power was reduced and engine vibration. I was able to drive slowly only to an independent mechanic that i normally go to because he was closer than the dealership and i wanted it check immediately since the warning lights were on.his codes showed the throttle body with sensor needed to be replaced.he stated he left the codes in even though the warning lights went off because he thought this work was covered under warranty.i immediately called the dealership and they wanted to make an appointment for the following week and when i told them all the warning lights had went off they stated it would probably be a waste of time to check on their computer. I told the dealership service dept. About how you don't know when this will happen and when it does you are basically stranded because the vehicle will barely move. The next week feb.11, 2015 it happened again and all 3 times i was lucky i was not in alot of traffic or traveling at high speeds or on a steep grade.if i would have been there may have been a accident. I had to leave the truck in a parking lot and the next day took it back to the independent mechanic.i called the dealership and again they wanted to make an appointment and they stated the work was not covered under warranty so my mechanic came up with the same codes and fixed the problem.called gm and explained the unsafe situation and got no customer service.
2004 gmc sierra with 5.3l engine.at 53,920 miles began ticking at cold start up.confirmed by gmc dealer today that cylinder head has crack which caused coolant to seep into engine oil.$3,800 to replace defective cylinder heads and install new lifters. Technical service bulletin # 06-06-01-019b.the cylinder heads in this engine are manufactured by "castech".
2010 gmc sierra 1500. Consumer states the jack that comes with this vehicle is not safe to use when removing the rear tire *tgwthe consumer stated the jack could easily slip off from under the axle, which is round and does not have any flat or contained surface for the jack to be placed.
Persistent burning of headlight bulbs. Numerous headlight bulb changes, wiring changed, housing changed, and light continues to burn out. Numerous owners of this year and model reporting the same occurrence. Very time consuming, costly, and irritating especially when cops become involved and hand out tickets.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the low beam headlights were activated and failed to illuminate. The contact engaged the high beam headlights and continued driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
2010 gas leaking around fuel tank sending unit. Contacted dealer about recall non but it is common for this truck ??? fuel ? leaking ? fire? environmental hazard ??gm replacement parts to replace rusted out sending unit $595 + labor @ $240 miles @52000. This is a safty and environmental hazzard and needs a recall before someone is dead!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extreme rust on undercarriage had broken suspension, brake lines, fuel lines, frame integrity
After months of purchasing my vehicle which is a sierra denali my dashboard has cracked in half.the purge valve and the high pressure oil syndicator sensor has been changed about 5 times. When i put vehicle in my truck it won't start on its own the starter just keeps turning over to find out by that the sensor under the gas tank needs to be changed now.i heard that this was a known issue with this vehicle and that is why they changed the system on it, but my truck was never changed.the dealership acts like my complaints were senseless and after a year my warranty has ran out.
We were driving on a 2 lane highway going 60mph when all of a sudden the truck went to 20mph. The vehicle behind me almost rear ended me. I pulled over to the shoulder and saw the check engine light was on, and also there were other messages saying that traction control was out, vehicle stability was out, etc. I was a couple of miles away from the dealership so i called them. Luckily they were open on saturday. I took it there and had the throttle body replaced. The truck has only 18,500 miles on it. The service man said there were no recalls or service bulletins for this problem.the little research i have done shows that many other owners have had this same problem.

Seat belt receivers failing, rear passenger side stopped latching first , rear passenger side quit working, and now driver seatbelt receiver working intermetently.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the stitching of the front passenger's side seat was coming apart, exposing the air bag. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to niles sales and service (3500 n roosevelt blvd, key west, fl 33040) where it was diagnosed with the seat needing to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the recall was only for the frontal air bag replacement and not for the air bag in the seat. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the local dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
I recently purchased a 2010 gmc sierra crew cab.the rear seat head restraints are inadequately and/or defectively designed, and will offer little protection to the rear seat passengers in the event of a rear end collision.the restraints are mounted on short posts, which do not extend high enough to offer protection to most individuals who are seated in the rear.the posts also do not lock in place, (like the front headrests) and simply slide up and down freely. I contacted gmc by letter, and requested that they modify or replace the headrests, but they refused, stating that the vehicle was designed to pass all federal safety standards. After doing some research, i realized that auto manufacturers are not required to install head restraints on the rear seats of passenger vehicles, and that the shape, size and location of the restraints continues to vary from vehicle to vehicle.it therefore appears that many vehicles, such as mine, offer inadequate head protection for all but the front seat passengers.indeed, the protection is so poor in the sierra, that any front or rear collision will likely result in the rear seat passengers' heads colliding with the rear window, causing head trauma in addition to the cervical trauma sustained from the lack of head and neck support.i am quite disappointed that my vehicle offers such inadequate protection, and hope that the nhtsa will take action on the issue.the cost of installing adequate head restraints in all u.s. Vehicles surely outweighs the health care and human costs that are being borne by our consumers every time someone is injured due to a manufacturer's faulty or negligent head rest design.until the nhtsa mandates such protections, auto manufacturers will have free reign to continue to skimp on consumer safety, and the u.s. Public will continue to suffer the consequences.
Cracked dash left top corner of passenger air bag area. Same as everyone else on here. Replaced drivers side seat motor at$132.replaced drivers side rear window regulator at $165 with labor at $60. Replaced both door handles at$89 with labor at $60. Had to rent a car for 4 days in the amount of $285. This all happened in nov. And dec. Of 2015. None of which is covered by my extended warranty purchased from dealer. Also the paint is bubbling around the rear cargo light. Also not covered under my "paint warranty". At the time of all this happening we had less than 65,000 miles on the vehicle.
Upon start up, after sitting for several hours or overnight, the car fails to stop properly for the first minute.this is dangerous as the pedal is soft and inconsistent and stopping times and distances are substantially greater than normal or acceptable tolerances.it is dangerous to both people and property as the car does not stop as it should.i have experienced tapping into garage doors due to the failure of the car to stop properly.in the event that a person would have been present, it could have been deadly.i have also experienced numerous close calls when maneuvering in garages.a friend has the same truck and has asked if i experienced the problem with stopping the truck after start up.i took the car to go gmc in golden colorado on multiple occassions.they downplay the event and state that they cannot get the truck to duplicate the problem when testing.after multiple trips to the dealer, they are now saying that it takes a minute or two for the vacum booster, or something like that, to pressurize and the brakes are working "normally."if this is normal, it does not conform with standard driving behavior.having to wait foryour brakes to pressurize for a minute of so is not normal. Thanks.
2010 gmc sierra.consumer writes in regards to steering wheel noises and recall notice 16v-381 issues.the consumer stated there was a whispering sound coming from the steering wheel.

The failure mileage was 104,000.
Dash crack around passenger airbag which could damage airbag or become shrapnel in an accident.this is my 2nd dash that cracked in the same location.
There are cracks on drivers side dash & around air bag on passenger side.
3 years ago while my vehicle was still "under bumper to bumper warranty" a crack on the passenger side dash appeared at the upper left corner of where the plate is that covers the airbag. Munday chevrolet in spring texas told me this was not covered under the "warranty" but they would replace it for a reduced cost of $1,000.gm is not getting another bail out from me.the single crack developed a secondary crack resulting in a "y" shaped crack. About a week ago the area in the "top" of the "y" fell out so now there is a hole and a crack.the problem is getting worse and not only does this unfairly devalue my investment because gmc used inferior, cheap materials, most importantly it is not safe.if the airbag deploys, there is an increased likelihood that the entire dashboard splinters into sharp deadly projectiles.this company has a history of covering up inferior products and poor decisions resulting in loss of life and financial loss.gm continues to expect customers and taxpayers to suffer for their lack of quality and poor decisions.gm needs to be held accountable and replace dangerous and defective dashboards or they will continue to cut corners and hide issues.please do not allow gm to exploit hard working families.

Dash crack. Dash is cracked at airbag.already been replaced once by dealer and is cracking in same spot.afraid if air bag deployed it could cause serious harm or even death due to sharp plastic pieces that are broken on dash
Dash cracked in two places above instrument panel an in corner of air bag. I don't know if the vehicle was in motion or stationary.
Multiple cracks on dashboard.the first two (2) cracks appeared about 3 years ago (truck only three years old at that time) located on passenger side of dash - abovewhere glove box ends. Just found another crack this past weekend when cleaning dash. (truck is now 6 yrs old - just finished paying it off!!) this one is located on left side of driver side, about half way back.my concern is that the dash is now compromised.in the event the airbags are deployed,my concerns are that the airbagsmay not come out, come out improperly due to the cracks, or that there may be additional dash parts becoming a projectile that could cause more harm.in reading this site it seems that this is a known problem that should be addressed before it causes a major problem.this truck has been kept in partial shade and has always had a sunscreen in place when not in use.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced, she was informed that the sub-frame was corroded. The contact took the vehicle to the used car dealer where she purchased the vehicle, and requested a second opinion. The vehicle was taken to a second inspection station and was informed that the sub-frame was corroded. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 178,118.
Crack on dash above gages as well as above airbag!!
Cracked dash by passenger airbag! if i was to get in an accident and my passenger airbag goes off my passenger is most likely going to be hit with cracked dash pieces as well.
Dash cracked under warranty and was replaced immediately by the dealer (howard bentley in albertville,al).replacement dash has cracked again.my concern is this is a known issue with certain gm models and in the event of a crash the pieces of compromised dash will become a projectile inside the vehicle.

The contact observed a crack in the dashboard near the front passenger side air bag. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 64,500.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the front exterior passenger's side door handle fractured. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer two times and the plastic door handle was replaced each time. Most recently the failure recurred. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. While driving at 50 mph, there was an abnormal popping noise and the dashboard had a hole. The dashboard was cracked across to the air bag, and plastic and metal fragments were exposed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 73,000.
The dashboard cracked around the passenger airbag as well as the steering wheel for no reason...worried that if the airbag goes off the dash will break apart and causing injuries.3 of us at work that own a gmc/chevy product in this age range has the same cracks in the same places.my dash cracked overnight while sitting in a garage.the air temps were in the 60's so could not be because of heat or cold.the repair for the cracked dash was a little over $1200.
Cracked dashboard. My vehicle is a 2010 with 43,000 miles and is stored in a garage most of the time (not a daily driver). Dashboard cracked while sitting in the garage. No extreme changes in temperature as garage is heated.
Extreme rust on undercarriage had broken suspension, brake lines, fuel lines, frame integrity
Inside driver door handle chrome is flaking. 3/9/13 it cut my index finger fairly deep and approximately 1/2 inch in length. Of course it bled all over my suit as i was heading to be the best man at a wedding. 7/21/13. My son was getting out of the drivers door and received the same injury.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. While opening the front driver door, the handle fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the undercoating of the sub-frame was detaching from the vehicle in small portions. The contact stated that the vehicle was purchased less than one year ago before the failure was discovered. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they offered no assistance, stating that the failure was normal. The manufacturer was then contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000. The vin was not available.
Letter from congressman poliquin on behalf of constituent re 2010 gmc sierra rear leaf spring recall.
Extreme rust on undercarriage had broken suspension, brake lines, fuel lines, frame integrity
A crack has recently appeared in the dash for no reason.
Passenger side dash is cracking right behind the air bag.had a similar issue fixed in february or march of 2014.almost 3 years later the new dash is cracked.seems to be a common problem in 2007-2013 gm trucks and suv's.i just noticed the crack yesterday december 11th, 2016.the crack has started within the last month that i can recall.
Dash has a considerable crack across the entire surface as well as cracking into the airbag exit.happened under normal conditions.
Dash cracked in multiple locations to include the passenger airbag storage compartment (dash mounted).it started out as a small crack on the instrument panel cowl, it grew and multiple cracks emerged since then.
The dash has cracked right above the passenger air bag . The truck was cleaned and detailed on wednesday november 25th 2015 , parked back in the garage and when i left in it friday november 27 , 2015i noticed the dash was cracked . This is a major concern for me since it is the passenger air compartment and could result in flying debris for an occupant inside my truck .
Dashboard is cracking and particularly around the passenger air bag. There is no real way to repair this. When we speak to gm dealerships, they tell you they know it is a problem and are willing to replace the dash but they will charge exorbitant amounts to do so.the second problem is that the door handles are not safe. One of the rear door handles has already broken. If you pull on them just the slightest bit too hard, they crack on the inside, causing the handle to fall off and be inoperative. Once again, gm is aware of the faulty parts but will not recall on this matter.both of these issues are safety concerns and are widespread. I know this to be true because once my dash started cracking, i looked online to see if others were having the same problem. Sure enough, i learned that this is very wide spread.there are even aftermarket companies that have started to make plastic dash covers to fit directly over our dashboards just because it is so widespread. Gm must recall these two defects. Kindly investigate?
Hooked up a trailer (first time ever), discovered that the trailer lights were not working, checked fuses, found a melted fuse. Found a recall for same problem, however it is vin specific and vin is not covered. Took to dealership, and reported problem to gmc, was told to report it here. Also found a vin specific recall for the driver control button for the passenger window (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't) and again this vin is not covered.
Takata recall- i have went to the dealership where i purchased the truck and they won't help me in resolving this safety issue. Mckenzie motors 6500 caroline st.milton fl 32570 850-665-2045. I live in florida where it is warm year round and my whole dashboard is falling in. I saved for ever and paid for this truck in cash. I'm the safety director at nas whiting field and this is a fatality waiting to happen. Please advise.
Dash panel crack near passenger airbag.this is the second dash that has been placed in the vehicle.the first dash was replaced on 07/23/2013 at 31,093 miles.the replaced dash cracked while stationary on 05/28/2017 at 73,197 miles.this is a known problem with 2007-2013 gmc vehicles.
Dashboard cracked in several places including mounting tab.
Cracked dash by passenger airbag and over instrument cluster.
Dash crack around passenger airbag which could damage airbag or become shrapnel in an accident.this is my 2nd dash that cracked in the same location.
The dash on my 2010 gmc sierra slt cracked in two places. One is right on the passenger airbag to the edge of the dashboard. Two is from the edge of the dash up to the gage cluster hump. These cracks happened on a 4 year old truck that has been very well taken care of. I always have a sun visor up when parked outside. I reported the problem to gm and had a dealer take a look at it. The service guy said that he had the same problem and they replaced his dash for free. They determined that it wasn't a safety concern and gm would cover $300 of the repairs. The repairs were going to cost around $1000. This is a very common design flaw that gm does not want take care of. I feel that this could be safely concern if the airbag deploys and the dash shoots sharp plastic from a faulty dash all over me or my family.
Driver side door handle quit working, this is a known issue with the gmc sierra 1500.i have been to the dealer thinking a quick and cheap fix,was floored to find out on that year and model it was a common occurrence, and out of pocket would cost $475.00 parts and labor, the parts man told me it was a bad design flaw.i asked if there was a recall on this because it's a safety issue, was told no.i got this truck new and as to date have had to replace the dash, because of cracking around airbag, done under warranty, and replaced outside door handle on rr door, now the door won't open from the inside on drivers door.,unless i roll down windowand open from outside,my truck has 23,000 miles on it.everything still looks new. I feel this is an issue that gmc should address,i would pay the labor, if they supply the part.the whole interior door has to be replaced as it is one unit.this is unfair to consumers ,installing deffective parts, and should be replaced at gmc's expenses, not the consumers.
Large cracks on my 2010 gmc sierra 1500 deneli dashboard. I noted two major cracks on the dashboard, one touches the passenger side airbag and the other major crack is over the driver side instrument console. I did some research and came across an investigation article from wmc action news 5, by the news reporter andy wise. This is a very serious safety concern.
3 cracks on dash! 1 on corner of air bag and other 2 above instrument cluster.
Crackack dashboard
Dash has cracked in several places and could be a safety concern. Edges are sharp and vibrate as well.
My dash had 4 cracks in it. The part covering the passenger air bag is very in safe
Dashboard is cracked between the airbag area and vent.
The dashboard on my truck is just cracking all over. I continuously clean and use sun shades for it. This is a product defect that needs to be corrected.
I contacted gmc on 10/26/2015 to inform them there was a crack in the dashboard on the upper left side of the passenger airbag. This is the second time this has happened. The first time brian harris gmc, the dealer i purchased the truck from, replaced the dashboard under the manufacturer's warranty. I also told andre at gmc i have had to replace all 4 door handles and now the 2 back door handles are broken again. Andre told me to have the dealer asses the problem. David, the service rep. At brian harris said they would replace the door handles under my extended factory warranty, and waive the deductible, but gmc will notcover the dashboard. I couldn't understand why the dashboard was not covered and was told it was gmc"s option. I disagreed and explained this is a safety issue. What if the airbag does not function properly or not function at all. If it does deploy will it throw shards of plastic and injure the people in the truck? he said he understood but there was nothing he could do. So i now have a crack in the dashboard of my truck for the second time. What else can i do?
Upper dash board cracking around passenger airbag.
Dash is cracking around airbag and other areas. Concern is that broken pieces could become shrapnel in a collision.
Vehicle shuts off then turns back on randomly when driving door locks pop up and down. Vehicle looses all power
The dash board is cracking in several places. Namely above the steering wheel and near the passenger side air bag. There was no stress or impacts to the dash that would have caused the cracking. The manner and locations of the cracks could cause the dash to fragment and cause injuries to occupants in the event of an airbag deployment.
Dash is broken on the passenger's side just to the left of where the passenger airbag deploys, and then it is also broken on the driver's side above the instrument cluster.it is obvious that the center of the dash is lacking support and it vibrates badly and has caused this breakage.
My dashboard has cracked around the passenger side airbag and on top of the driverside dash. I am afraid that the cracks around the airbag are a safety hazard for my family. Both cracks are growing rapidly.vehicle has less than 44,000 miles and is in excellent condition.
Dash board cracking for no reason. Out of warranty. After searching google i see it's a common problem......any helpon getting this issue fixed
Dash cracked over driver side instrument panel; i noticed this in the first week or two of december, 2015.i took it to the dealership and was told i would have to pay to have it repaired and i don't have the resources to pay to replace defective equipment. Truck is always parked under cover and never exposed to direct extreme temperatures for any extended periods.truck has approx. 79,000 miles and is very well maintained.in addition to the dash cracking, the leather driver seat is ripping and appears to be caused by the seat belt not retracting properly. This was noticed about a week after i noticed the cracked dash. I am the only driver, am 67 years old, don't wear anything sharp on my clothing that would damage my seat.surely the interior of this truck should last longer than the tires and i believe gm should take responsibility.
Cracked dash on our 2010 gmc sierra. There is a smaller crack on the passenger side and a very large crack on the drivers side and it keeps getting bigger. The big crack above the steering wheel rattles a lot while driving and very irritating. The biggest issue we have regards safety. If we were in a wreck and the airbags would deploy with the dash cracked that bad, we fear that it would shatter in many pieces. We have taken very good care of the truck, it is garage kept and a sun shield used when parked in the sun. It has 58,000 miles and is a 2010. This is clearly a defect in the design and believe that gm should replace it, but after many calls to gm directly, they refuse to pay for it to be replaced.
Cracked dashboard near passenger airbag.
Dashboard cracked by passenger airbag, and by instrument cluster, and by the center speaker . Concerned for my family safty and the deployment of air bag and pieces being dash impaling family and friends.
Dashboard cracked.
Dashboard is cracked in 2 locations, above instrument panel and passenger side air bag, possible danger for plastic pieces during airbag deployment.
Dash is cracked along side of passenger air bag and above instrument panel on dash.
The windshield and the side windows of my new 2010 gmc sierra 1500 wt, have an extreme tendency to fog over in temperatures near the freezing point.i have read, and observed, that the ac compressor becomes automatically disabled when the outside temperature gets near the freeze zone (i think the actual threshold is somewhere around 40 degrees f). With the ac disabled, the defrost mode cannot keep the windows clear. The problem is magnified when there are two or three individuals in the cab. At that point, it is exceedingly difficult to clear the side windows, even to the point that frost forms on the inside window surface!very recently, while traveling to work during my 40 mile commute, i was running the ac, with the temp control set to a comfortable level and the blower about the medium setting and flowing through the main vents. The outside temperature was, apparently, hovering near the point where the electronics disable the compressor. The windshield and both side windows fogged oversuddenly. We have a 2011 gmc terrain, which does not present this issue.
The contact owns 2010 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle sputtered and failed to accelerate above 20 mph. The contact mentioned that the check engine and service traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed the throttle position sensor codes needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,500.
The contact owns a 2010 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the carpet on the driver side floor was beginning to curl up, which caused the sole of his left foot to become captured when attempting to apply the brakes. The dealer inspected the vehicle and agreed to perform the repairs; however, he later backed out because they were unable to determine an adequate remedy for the failure. The contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. The current mileage was 5,000 and the failure mileage was 3,800.
Wipers will just barely move when turned on. I put new motor and new switch but neither fixed the problem. I found it was the wiper transmission (linkage) was froze up,rusted and has water in it. Ordered one from dorman and there is none in stock. Cannot find one anywhere. This should not happen on a 2010 vehicle.
