Service airbag light has come on 3x in the life of this vehicle (at 99,500 miles currently).first was for right front airbag sensor. - replaced at a cost of 300+ dollars around 65k miles.second was seat sensor - recalibrated it, no charge.now at 99,500 miles my left front airbag sensor is bad. - replaced it myself at a cost of $100.airbag issues at this low of mileage is unacceptable.

Airbag light indicator light does not turn off.service air bag indicator is on when there has been no accident or bump to the vehicles.

Airbag alert is on dash of my sierra, at 38,000 miles--dealer says they have to check it our; no idea what could cause this.i have never had such a problem with any honda product i have ever owned--many sine 1985.

I own a 2005 gmc sierra and the speedometer has failed. I own a gps so i use this to help determine the speed i am traveling. I brought my vehicle into the dealer on several occasions and contacted gm and they stated they could not help me that i would have to pay $380.00 to get it repaired. Two days after bringing into my local dealer i received a letter in the mail stating there was a class action lawsuit against gm for defective speedometers on certain makes and models.

Speedometer doesn't work correctly, reading 60 mph when we were traveling approx 40.also bulbs burned out in it making it unreadable at night.bulbs are non-replaceable in this instrument cluster, so you need to replace entire cluster to fix bulb issue.poor design, expensive, and annoying problem at only 99,000 miles.

Charging system failure message keeps coming up on vehicle...replaced alternator three weeks ago and it seems to solve the problem...for a while at least...two nights ago truck died...replaced battery with a brand new one yesterday and truck is still sitting on the side of the road as battery is not getting charge from alternator.

The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that he was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

05 gmc sierra speedometer erratic at first,15,000 ml.,now at 62,000 ml. Doesn't work. I was going 50 at a stop sign. I have my own business and pull trailers w/ equipment and the right speed is critical for the towing weights. The law enforcement agencies will never take a faulty speedometer as a reason for going over the speed limit. Interstate driving is at a minimum because going with the flow will mean over heating of the small trailer tires on the tilt bed trailer. No action yet it just quit today,1-4-2010 , and i am filing this complaint to add to the numbers of others that have already filed.

We own a 2005 gmc sierra and the speedometer has gone out. Was informed it is aninternal gauge cluster that has gone out and it will take $400-$600 to fix it.i have researched online and this has been a problem with trucks since at least 2007.there should be a recall on this and the customers should not have to pay for this to be fixed.gmc refuses to do a recall and says that there is nothing they can do.

The rear speakers on my 2005 gmc sierra 1500 crew cab quit working and haven't came back on. I have been to different forums and this seems to be a very common occurrence.

Ignition switch is sticking in run position. I have to turn the switch back after cranking to turn off the abs /parking brake light. Tried a new switch didn't solve the problem. Is this part of the recall problem.

Speedometer reading erratically.20mph when parked, sometimes 40 when parked.unable to determine actual speed.apparently this is affecting thousands of gm vehicles and gm knows about this issue but won't do anything about it.maybe a class action lawsuit is in order?a silent recall is in place if you have less than 80k miles, if your vehicle falls within the range of vin #'s, if it happened on a day that doesn't end in y.gm needs to be responsible and stand behind their product.especially if they know its a safety issue.

Started my truck and the failure electrical system came across i pushed in the botton that changes it and came back on then it said tighten fuel cap washer fluid low i hit the button again it went of but battery light stayed on and gauge read about 10 volts.my truck ran fine and started when i got to my first then at the second stop it said the same , i put in reverse backed out put it drive and the cluster quick working the ac quit you could roll the windows down nor did the locks work and it did not any power when pushed down the gas ped2 to come up a hill it felt like it shifted when you let off the pedal you could feel jerk, go home turned it and would not start or make any sound not even the clicking on the starter, so i left home and came back about 4 hours later and it started but the volt read about 10 volts. I had the battery tested and it test good. This was on september 9, 2020 i have put the battery back in yet.

Speedometer stopped working at 20000 miles. It was working fine then started to work only occasionally and has now completely stopped working. We have not had it repaired as of yet. It is very unsafe to drive not knowing what speed you are traveling at, plus can result in traffic violations causing your insurance to increase.

Speedometer failure. Very dangerous - while trying to resume speed on an interstate i nearly crashed into the interstate barrier/wall on a curve the other night because the speedometer read 70. I then slowed to "stay with the flow" and speedometer read 35 (assuming traffic was driving the speed limit of 70). Now it start of ok and then before you know it will start to drop and after a stop will stay at 0 while driving interstate speeds, will stick at 55 when probably going about 10. It is all over the place. The failure is now daily and is far too dangerous to my family and i to drive. Hope this gets recalled quickly before it causes deaths.

The speedometer of my gmc sierra 1500 is erratic when it is wet outside.when the vehicle is parked and the ignition key is in my pocket the speedometer reads anywhere from 40 to 50 mph.while driving the speedometer indicates up to 120 mph.how many people have to complain about this safety concern before something is done.a search of your database indicates many complaints.help.

Speedometer shows incorrect speed by aprox. 20 mph less than the actual speed at times.

Gmc sierra 2005 speedemoter bad, cannot tell what speed i'am going. 37.000 miles on truck...

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact noticed that the speedometer was not providing a reading. The dealer was made aware of the failure and the technician stated that the instrument cluster would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,200.

The connector that plugs into the blower motor under the glove box became too hot and melted the plastic resulting in the a/c and heat not to work (this includes the windshield defroster).i've been looking up problems and solutions and found that this is a recurring problem with gmc and chevy trucks yet there has not been any recall, in fact the dealerships have an extremely overpriced kit to fix their faulty wiring.about 66,000 mi.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while at a stop sign, all the lights on the instrument panel began flashing intermittently. Also, the headlights turned on and off independently, the speedometer and temperature gauges showed inaccurate readings. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with electrical failures on the computer system. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. When the vehicle was placed into gear, the contact noticed that the gear selector was barely illuminated. The failure progressively worsened and the contact had to memorize in what gear the vehicle was placed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000. Updated 06/15/16*ljthe consumer stated the led shift indicator display had faded, and he was unable to determine what gear the vehicle was in. Updated 06/22/16.

Speedometer sticks and doesn't return to 0 and continues to rise every time the vehicle accelerates until the speedometer is pegged out and then it sticks there.

2005 gmc sierra - if the vehicle sits for 3-4 days without being driven, the battery goes dead.nothing has been left on.

Truck is now 6 years old, just over 70,000 miles. 3 to 4 years ago (maybe more) the #5 speed on the air system blower stopped working. Perhaps last summer or fall, i checked the fuses: all good. I finally found the wiring harness plug to the fan and found the #5 line had melted insulation and the surface of the contact prongs blackened. I sanded them and reinstalled the plug. All speeds worked, for a while, but soon became intermittent.then all speeds stopped working totally.at last, i remembered that i still had an extended warranty with mastertech, checked it and was able to get the harness replaced under the warranty. The workman who did the repair said that this item was a common problem with the 2005 sierra. While i do now have a working fan control, i am afraid to use the #5 fan speed.

Speedometer failed at 68,000 miles. It sticks all the way past 120 mph. Can't see how fast i'm going, dealer refuses to fix it. Tried three dealers.

My speedometer failed in dec of 2009 on my gmc sierra pickup.in the cold it always registers 0 mph and will start to work after an hour on the road.

I'm currently at 84,000 miles on my 2005 gmc sierra, and when stopped with the truck in park my speedometer is showing 90mph then proceeds up from there while driving. I think there's something that needs to be done. I have several friends with the same year model vehicles manufactured by gm. All have the same problems. Talked to a dealer about getting it fixed they told me it was going to cost 300 for the part, and 200 dollars to have it programmed....

Speedometer works occasionally, unknown speed traveling.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. The contact noticed severe rust to the subframe of the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear suspension, front suspension, and starter support showed excessive rust. Additionally, the shock tower, supports, transmission bolts, four wheel drive actuator, and hardware also showed excessive rust. The contact also stated that the horn also failed to operate intermittently. Beckley auto mall (3934 robert c byrd dr, beckley, wv 25801, (304) 252-3300) stated that there was no recall associated with the vin. The vehicle was repaired for several failures; however, the rust issue was not addressed. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.updated 9/18/18

Odi #10403836, 2005 gmc 1500 sierra, vin#, complete failure of dash instruments, started with the oil gauge, then the rpm indicator, now the speedometer, runs up to 120 mph several times a week only going at unknown, unsafe speed which i can only assume to be the legal limit of 70 mph, this is a safety issue as well as a monetary loss for accidents and or speeding tickets. In addition the instrument light for the transmission does not work and you can not tell what gear you are in another potentially dangerous situation, on top of that the check engine light comes on repeatedly causingminor repair costs each time it occurs. There has to be customer recourse, when this originally started the dealership stated that not to worry as soon a recall would be issued as it had for the prior years, as yet no official recall other than the transmission panel light failure which currently covers 7,194 vehicles but gmc states that mine is not covered? one wonders why when they say quality it is a japanese auto! if indeed all of the consumers with a complaint for this particular problem would gather under a legal action, i am sure that gmc would have to comply and repair and some point in time. I have owned gmc autos and trucks all of my life, i currently have a 77 chev. Pick up the instrumental panel still works, i have a 1995 gmc sierra the instrument panel still works, i have left instructions with my family that if i am in a wreck due to excessive speed and or mistakenly place the vehicle in the wrong gear and back over a cliff that they are to sue gmc. My next action is a class action law suit.

I was driving my 2005 gmc sierra 1500 truck and the cab filled with smoke the a small fire developed on the wire bundle that connects to the fan blower under the dash passenger side.i had to pull over and pry the burnt connector off of the resistor / blower hook up.the fuse did not workand the connector continued to burn until i shut off the truck and remove the connector.i plan to take the truck into skillman gmcsince a fuse did not blow prior to the burning of the wiring.also i did a brief search and found others had similar issues with either the gmc sierraand the chevy silveradotruck.

The running light sockets burned out.i can send you the burned out socket but need an address.

Speedometer has suddenly stopped working on my 2005 gmc sierra 1500. I have learned there is a recall for model years 2003-2004. Seems like the problem may extend to further years.

I bought my gmc used in 2008 and i had no problems until a june of 2012 when my speedometer started to get my speed totally wrong.at times it would say i was driving over 120 mph or when in idle it would even say the same thing.the speedometer picks a different speed daily.just a few weeks ago in july of 2012 my gas gauge went completely out so i have no idea how much gas it left in my truck.i have to guess by mileage now in hopes that my electrical doesn't go completely out now.

The passive alarm system is malfunctioning aprox every 10 cranks. When this happens you are stuck for at least a hour before it will start. Dealership can not find the problem and a complaint was made to gmc complaint department i have changed numerous parts m switches and boxes ,

Electrical system, all my truck lights dim very low when i roll the windows up or down when driving, when i hit the brakes all lights dim and vot. Drops we have taken it in to the shop a lot for this and still no fix. Service engine light stays on and my temperature gauge doesn't work i took it in and they said this problem is only in alaska and there is no fix. Front diff has been a problem since the day we picked it up the have fixed different things on it.

November 5, 2014: turn key and symptom of a dead battery. Starter clicks once. No lights will work at all. Took battery out, charged it overnight, and had it tested. Test reveals battery is good (should start vehicle) but weak (needs a charge).put battery back in, connected it, put key in, turned it, and vehicle started easily. .............nov. 15, 2014: turn key but, electrical system is completely dead. Then, take key out for five minutes, put back in, and starts right up like nothing wrong.

The speedometer and fuel gauge on my 2005 gmc sierra 1500 crew cab are erratic and occasionally non operative. Speedo reads 120 mph at times when the vehicle is stopped. Sometimes does not read at all, stays at zero when doing freeway speeds. Fuel gauge reads empty when 1/4 tank, then after a restart will show proper(?) level.

The drive indicator on my dash board cluster does not light up and show what gear im in. Called before because there is a recall for this year and model of truck but my vin was not included in recall but i have the same issue.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. While driving at 65 mph, the contact noticed that the abs light illuminated on the instrument panel. An hour later, the contact noticed that the vehicle displayed difficulty stopping. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the driver side tire was tilted and smoke and flames had began rising from behind the wheel. The contact called the fire department but no report was filed. The vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 49,000. Updated 07/26/10. *ljupdated 08/06/10

Wiring harness between fan switch and fan motor get very hot at the connection and melts the connection.

The gear shift indicator light has gone from dim to no light at all so you can not see what gear you are in. This happens anytime the vehicle is running.

2005 gmc sierra speedometer malfunction.dealership states a new instrument cluster is required to fix the problem.

Speedometer stuck at 120 mph......

After 70,000 miles the speedometer stopped functioning correctly. It will read 120 going 70 or read 20 going 50. So its reading too high and too low. Also it seems it is starting to have other electrical issues as well.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500.while driving at any rate of speed, the speedometer displays inaccurate readings.the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 105,000.

Speedometer stopped working.would manifest itself in a couple of ways.1)it would show a steady speed of 25 mph regardless of my actual speed.2)would show i am going as much as 50mph over my actual speed.

At approximately 66,000 miles on my 2005 gmc sierra 1500, the speedometer started reading 70 mph while the truck was stopped, and rose from there as it accelerated. The condition persisted for about one week; each time the truck was restarted, the speedometer reset itself to a lower starting speed, until it read zero again when stopped. It is behaving normally now, but this seems to be a recurring issue with this vehicle, and gm has not provided other owners any relief if the vehicle is past its warranty period. Something as basic and necessary to driving safety as speedometer function should, in my opinion, be designed to last the vehicle's entire intended lifespan without systemic failure.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500.while driving approximately 5 mph, the contact released the accelerator pedal in order for the vehicle to coast.the vehicle then stalled.she shifted the gear from drive into neutral and restarted the vehicle.later that week, the speedometer displayed 55 mph while the vehicle was in park.while driving to her place of business, the speedometer displayed 100-120 mph.later that day, the contact drove the vehicle to the dealer and was informed to bring it back for a diagnostic and repair.the manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was 72,500 and failure mileage was 72,300. Updated 2/2/09 the consumer stated the speedometer became stuck at 47 mph at startup. The consumer stated he did not know how fast he was driving, since the speedometer was inoperative. Updated 02/04/09.

The speedometer failed after 60,000 miles.

Speedometer not working correctly, only have 48,000 mile on vehicle ,sometimes it works fine other times it may stick on 50 or 60 or may not work at all. If it sticks on 50 for examplewhen i start my next trip it starts at that point,if i'm going 20 mph it says i'm going 70 mph, ect.

Speedometer has quit working properly.it sometimes reads inaccurately low and sometimes inaccurately high.it will usually go several weeks without ever working properly and then will work for a few days.it sometimes never comes back down after peaking at the maximum speed.

I have a 2005 gmc sierra z71, about two weeks ago i was driving in the country only to glance down and see 95 miles per hour, i braked hard only to realize i wasn't going that fast. After pulling over to the side of the road i noticed my speedometer read 35 at a complete stop. Since then it has worked some days other days it will not read beyond 50 miles per hour or it will be some bizarre reading. I have owned the truck for 3yrs 6 months it has around 31,500 miles under mileage warranty of 36,000 miles but 6 months past the time warranty.

Speedometer sticks at less speed than vehicle going does not happen at all times but, is a safety and violation factor.

My speedometer fails intermittently.i was driving to florida from virginia and my speedometer failed on interstate 95.i was summarily arrested in summerton, georgia for speeding.it is dangerous when you don't know your speed.

The speedometer has been erratic for the last 2k miles but now at 43k miles has completely died.

Gauge cluster for my 2005 gmc sierra is not working properly.speedometer, engine coolant temperature & transmission temperature gauges stick, flutter, or become inoperative causing inaccurate readings.

2005 gmc sierra speedometer acting erratic - vehicle in stopped position says going 105 km/h or 65 mph ?? incorrect readings, jumpy -.

The speedometer in my gmc truck keeps on getting stuck. I have been told by many other gmc and chevrolet owners that have had the same issue that it is in the brain of the vehicle. It happens on the freeway the most. If i don't know how fast i am going i am i am creating potential hazard. If the speed limit is the recommended safe speed. I don't know if i am in compliance. Not only is it a safety issue it is also a financial risk in terms of tickets. All chevrolet and gmc truck owners i know have had this problem.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. While driving 30 mph, he noticed that the speedometer displayed that he was driving less than 20 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing which indicated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 51900.

There is a known issue with gmc vehicles where the odometer quits working after 70,000 miles. There is, i believe, a recall on the 2003/2004 model year.i have a 2005 gmc pickup that has the exact same part in it as is also defective. It gives inaccurate readings or pegs at 120 or 0.this is very dangerous. If it wasn't so expensive, i'd fix it myself. But this is a defective part put in the vehicle by gm and should be fixed by gm.

Speedometer default , it will not indicater the correct speedsometimes it will indicate 120 mph, other times it will indicate20-30 mph , sometimes it sticks on several mph's speedswhen the vehicleis stopped.the speedometer is all over the place, when i know for sure i am not going the speed indicated on the speedometer.one time it was indicating 120 mph thru a school zone!!!

The speedometer has started acting erratically on my 2005 gmc sierra with 70,000 miles. It will read 20 to 30 mph less than actual speed. This happens erratically so i have to monitor the tach to make sure i am close to the posted speed, maybe.

The instrument cluster panel on my 2005 gmc sierra pick up constantly reads the wrong speed. At times it registers 0 mph when im actually driving.

My 2005 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 pickup's speedometer will not go below 45 mph and pegs out at 120 mph. This happened suddenly, it has been this way for over 1 week.i have tried turning on and off, leaving off and restart. Dealership says no recall; not their resposibility.. Another shop will charge over $600.00 to repair in which i do not have. I read on line that there are thousands of gmc's with this issue. Where is help for the consumer????

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500 pickup truck. While driving, he could smell a burning odor coming from the inside of the vehicle. The dealer found that there was a shortage and a melted harness assembly. The blower resistor and harness assembly were replaced at the owner's expense. The manufacturer was contacted and could only offer a 15,000 mile extended warranty. The current and failure mileages were under 48,198.updated 02/23/10. *ljupdated 08/12/10

Fan speed 5 will not work and speed 4 smell like burning wires, drivers temp control will not work only cold air. Connector under passenger side fan black wire burned into and melted connector.gmc parts man said there was a national backorder on parts because so many wes go bad.

I drive a 2005 sierra 1500 4 wheel drive. While driving on the freeway the truck wentfrom normal 2 wheel drive (d on the steering column), into neutral. I did nothing to create this action . The situation was extremely dangerous. I did pull off after other drivers almost crashed due to my immediate decrease in speed.once stopped i attempted to use the steering wheel shift lever to put the truck in drive or park. It would not shift, even with foot on the break. I noticed my 4 wheel drive selector switch was not illuminated. I pushed the 2wd button and it made a terrible noise. I tried the auto 4wd button and then was able to move the steering lever back to park and then to d for drive. Now when i slow to turn the truck drops into low 4 wheel drive which makes the truck slow to 10 mph max. This could get anyone killed even if initially one had plenty of time to turn. There are 100s of forums on the internet dealing with exactly this problem yet nothing is being done. How many people have died because of this problem and not had the chance to tell?how many more must die before anything is done?

Concerning gm 706 castech cylinder heads/gm tsb 06-06-01-019bi have a 2005 gmc sierra which has slowly been leaking coolant for about 6 months. I have had it looked at and the dealer informed me that i have a 706 castech cylinder head that is notorious for cracking and leaking. The dealer told me there was coolant inside my oil and recommended replacing the engine. As i have begun researching this issue i realize these cylinder heads affect millions of gm vehicles and loyal customers. Gm has issued a tsb and are aware of the issue at hand and in my, and many other customers this should have been a recalled item. I am calling on gm to fix this issue/mistake.

Exhaust manifold bolts on each side of engin snapped off for no appearantreason / normal use, big concern of exaust fumes entering the cab

Castech cylinder heads on 2001 through 2006 5.3l vortec engines are porous and allow antifreeze to seap into the oil. This is a safety concern as it can destroy the engine (oil doesn't lubricate correctly, sludge buildup) and leave someone, at the least, stranded, at the worst, it can cause a huge engine fire. Gm has been aware of this since 2007. They issued a bulletin describing the problem and what needs to be done to fix, but no recall. To fix either the cylinder heads need to be replaced ($2500) or the entire engine needs to be replaced ($5500). My vehicle is a 2005 gmc sierra 1500 sle. Also the problem has been confirmed by a licensed mechanic. The following is a link to the gm issued bulletin. Http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/bluegorilla/2008-12-05_142924_coolant_loss_5.3.pdf

Engine oil leak on or around rear main seal. As oil drips while driving the oil lands on the exhaust pipe and begins to burn. This leak landing on the exhaust while hot can catch on fire.

Complaint on gm exhaust manifold bolt defect, inferior brake/ fuel lines.mine is a 2005 gmc. I found 2 broken exhaust manifold bolts on my 2005 sierra (70, 717 miles), 1 on each side, 1 was actually missing & the other was just hanging there, i then went to check my wife's vehicle, a 2003 chevy tahoe ( 90,420 miles) & that also has 2 missing , 1 from either side, you cant imagine how sick i am at this point, both our vehicles are in need of major repairs, please tell me that general motors will need to recall these vehicles & make the needed repairs, sick to my stomach & cash strapped, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

1. Driving on interstate in my 2005 gmc sierra with my mother who notices smoke coming out of the air vents. It was not safe to other vehicles to pull over for about .5 to 1 mile at which point it was all we could to evacuate the truck as it was going up in flames. 2. Gm's third party administrator esis denied my claim without even conducting an investigation. I did receive a letter from esis with information about submitting a formal claim against gm. I neither have nor can afford an attorney to assist me with this documentation. I lost many personal items including cash, my wallet, phone, and tools. I am a contractor andhave missed many weeks from work and had to forfeit work because i can no longer afford a rental truck. This incident has caused me many problems and embarrassment both financially and personally.

Gmc pickup developed coolant loss.took in and found that head had cracked.service bulletin revealed 50% of heads for that year came from one manufacturer and had been prone to cracking. Discovered mine indeed had the suspect head and did have the crack as described. Why didn't gmc issue a recall on these and save me $4,000?

Purchased a used 2005 gmc sierra from a gm dealership. Two months later the engine was found to have a blown head. After doing my due diligence, i was made aware that gm has had major problems with the head casting manufacture of my particular truck. I am having it repaired at a gm dealership and have asked gm to assist me in anyway with the costly repair, since it is only a 2005. They were not willing to work with me in the least. The gm mechanic even stated that these particular heads are notorious for cracking and gm is aware of this.

Passenger headlight will not turn on. Both lowbeam and high beam don?t turn on. Bulb is in working condition, fuses are not blown, can?t seem to find a solution. This makes the vehicle very dangerous with no right side visibility. Unknown reason behind the problem.

The steering is extremely lose where i can turn the wheel almost half way before it turns the tires. The headlights move constantly after being adjusted and make it nearly impossible to see at night. The 4wheel drive box is constantly throwing the truck into 4wheel auto and 4wheel low without warning, whatcha is very dangerous when entering the interstate

Four wheel drive functions intermittently. Replaced switch and transfer motor. Every 6 months four wheel drive becomes inoperative often after a highway run. Costs to repair have exceeded $1000. Conversations with other owners of similar vehicles, including silverados, experience similar issues.

Hello, my complaint is that gm placed an undersized transmission (4l60e) in the popular crew cab 1/2 ton trucks and i am requesting for nhtsa to investigate gm regarding this issue and make a recall.my truck is a 2005 gmc sierra sle z71 crew cab (k1500) with only 76k+ miles and has the 4l60/65e transmission.this 4l60e transmission is also used in gm trucks colorado & canyon and works good for these smaller trucks but in the larger silverado & sierra crew cabs the transmission wears our the 3-4 clutch prematurely due to the weight of the truck.this is a bad design and gm has fixed it in the 2007+ crew cab trucks by using a 6-speed transmission instead of the previous 4-speed.i was driving on the highway and my transmission slipped in 4th gear.i shifted to 3rd gear and transmission continued to slip.this was during rush hour and i was going 65 mph.i had to wait for traffic to clear on the right hand side so i could get to the shoulder while i had several cars behind me waiting.my truck could no longer hold speeds above 50 mph without slipping the transmission.i could have caused an accident because my truck could not accelerate.this is a potential hazard.i had the truck taken to the dealer and was told i need a rebuild and the most it would cost me is $3k to fix.i said no thanks and paid the $45 diagnoses fee.i told them why if i do not tow with my truck and drive passive to get the best mileage and some how my transmission needs a rebuild at only 76k miles?this should not be.i have a 10 year old car with 193k miles and it has never had a transmission rebuild.i have called gm and they say there is no recall and there is no transmission problem but i disagree.i asked the dealer to provide me with how many transmission rebuilds they have done and they say they do not track this information.this is outrageous because they do not give gm any feedback on how many repairs they do to cars out of warranty.

Gmc sierra 1500 front seat metal failed on the upper back cushion/ support of seat causing the seat to fall on one side. This in turn caused the drive ability of the truck to be dangerous for safety of the driver and all in truck. This is not at a welded area but in the metal itself.

Went to leave driveway and the pedal went to the floor and i could not stop...had to pump the brakes a lot.got out and found brake fluid all over the pavement.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. While operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the braking system malfunctioned and the stopping distance was extended. The contact discovered that the brake fluid leaked from the vehicle due to rusted brake lines. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the brake lines, but the failure recurred. The contact indicated that the failure occurred on three separate occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 42,000.

While driving forward in traffic when car cut in front from the next lane to the right.this required emergency braking, but my speed was slow and truck should have stopped within the space available and the truck brakes seemed to feel as if they released on their own.damage occurred to the car i rear ended and they rear-ended a car in front of them.damage to all 3 vehicles was light enough that all were driven away after crash.on the way home i noticed the brakes were not working properly and lost stopping power shortly after depressing the brake pedal each time.after a 2 mile trip home like this i check the brake fluid and found it low.then i saw fluid on the ground and found the brake line was dripping brake fluid.it appears to have ruptured from the pressure of the fluid inside.the lines were also seriously corroded.this appears to be a problem in materials and my 1985 suburban shows almost no signs of corrosion on the brake lines and is 20 years older.i was ticketed for reckless driving for not stopping because the car that cut in front made it all the way to the center of the lane before i struck it.that car was behind me and went around me and cut in front because i was ?driving too slow? according to her.i had left two to three full car lengths in front of me and this bothered her.i had a good amount of distance to stop the truck even after she cut in front, but the truck was unable due to the line breaking when i pushed the pedal hard.the line should be able to withstand that pressure.

Brakes failed in my driveway. Brake pedal went to the floor with almost no resistance. Fortunately i didn't hit anything. I inspected brake master cylinder & found all fluid had leaked out, area under it was wet with fluid, also, the brake lines under the cylinder looked very rusted.

My gmc sierra i bought new in 2006 it has 68,800 miles on it when i was sitting at a red light on a city street when the brake pedal lost pressure and went all the way to the floor. The brake lines had rusted and brake fluid was pouring out when i taped on the brake pedal. If iwas moving at the time this happen something real bad could have happen. I own a 1948 chevrolet pickup and the brake lines are still good on that 70 year old truck. Gm is using poor quality parts from low bidders on contract putting the public at risk.

Looked under my truck after my brakes failed while driving to work. Was surprised at how rusty all the lines are. Aaa towed my truck home. I spent the next 3 days replacing brake lines. Now i noticed the lines from the master cylinder are rusty as well. Now i will have to replace those as well. I've never had brake lines rust out like these have. My wife drives a little 1999 escort and the brake lines on that are fine. What the heck this is all the use you can expect on a gmc sierra?

Recently, i spent three days performing preventive maintenance on my 2005 gmc sierra and found two primary issues that shouldn't be occurring on this young of a vehicle.the first was rotted sections of brake line (supposed to be stainless steel) in the rear of the vehicle (the main line that comes back from the master cylinder) and the second issue was a leaking seal in the power steering pump. There is a considerable number of people with the same problem who have qualified for a recall or work to be done under a technical bulletin, but apparently my vin lies outside of the acceptable range.

Brake pedal went all the way to floor. Rusted through brake line near rear driver side tire

As i was leaving home my home and approaching stop sign, my brakes gave out. I located an area near the rear left axle where the brake line was corroded and burst. Inspection of the brake lines shows extensive corrosion along the entire lines.

Three months prior i lost power steering because of a metal line leak. Then coming up on traffic i'm applying the brakes and the pedal went to the floor, luckily i was able to pull onto the shoulder of the road to avoid an accident. Had i not been able to pull on the shoulder my gmc would have slammed the vehicle in front of me and would have pushed that vehicle into the car in front of that one. Have not gotten the truck back from the shop yet but i could see brake fluid leaking from a metal brake line. 2005 gmc 88,000 miles this is my first gmc and my last. I think all gmc products should be recalled and fixed!!

Car in front of me locked up his brakes for a ambulance entering the intersection .good thing had enough distance to stop as when i tried too the pedal went to the floor.kept pumping and managed to stop.glad i wasn't going any faster and had time to react.

Approaching an intersection to turn left across oncoming traffic the brake pedal went completely to the floor with virtually no resistance and no braking at all.there was no warning and no malfunction indicator lights were illuminated. Returned to our campsite using the emergency brake and had the truck towed to the nearest gm dealer.they decided it would be more 'economical' to send the corroded and leaking brake lines out to a shop as models for making up new ones rather than use the kit in tsb 13-05-22-001.unfortunately it took that shop a week to do the work and we had to rent a car to get around while the dealer waited for parts, adding some $250 to the $1113.32 repair cost.since we were over a thousand miles from home at the time we had little choice.

While driving at approximately 55 mph on urban road i had to slam on my brakes because of a driver backing out of a driveway in front of me. Brakes initially slowed vehicle then brake pedal went clear to the floor. I quickly engaged parking/emergency brake and was able to stop just in time while simultaneously running off the right side of the road. After inspection leaking brake fluid was observed on left upper frame rail just to the rear of the radiator. After being towed home future inspection revealed a longitudinal fracture on the brake line for the right front wheel. No injuries, minor damage to right side (brush scrapes).

When pulling in my driveway the brake lights came on and the brake pedal went clear to the floor.upon investigating i found the brake lines to be severely corroded. I was fortunate not to be driving at a faster rate of speed on the open road. That same week the steering had become very difficult to turn like it was low on fluid, which it was not.i have also had to have both front wheel bearings replaced along with the computer at 400 miles.

Slowing for traffic light going downhill and brake pedal went to floor. Pumping did little so used parking brake to stop. Cloud of white smoke out of tail pipe as engine shuttered and valves chattered. Front drivers side brake line failed from external corrosion shooting fluid on hot exhaust manifold. When peddle went to floor master cylinder passed fluid into booster and through vacuum line into intake of engine causing white cloud of brake fluid burning with gas internally almost shutting motor down and loss of all power. Replaced corroded brake lines and master cylinder. Negligent design and materials quality in my opinion. Now both front calipers drag and shake steering wheel. Where is safety recall?brake lines are not a maintenance item! try replacing one as they were installed to never come off. Would toyota have been given a pass on this issue for this many years of complaints, thousands of failures, injuries and deaths?

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for an unrelated repair when they noticed that the rear brake line was rusted near the wheel well. In addition, the front driver's side brake line was replaced for the same defect. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. All brakes lines rusted out.

While applying the brake to shift into drive, the brake pedal "went to the floor".pumped braes once and still no pressure.was able to hear the leak under the driver side and brake fluid was obvious under the truck.investigation revealed the one of the lines rusted through at the plastic clip to secure it to the frame near the drivers side floor board.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. The contact was driving 10 mph and after applying the brakes, brake fluid discharged from the braking system. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the brake lines were rusted. The vehicle was repaired but the problem persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

I was on my way to pick my kids up after school and as i approached a red light i pressed the brake pedal and it went completely to the floor.no dash abs indicator light or warning light showing any fault code came on before or since.fortunately, i never follow close in traffic and was able to stop my vehicle using the emergency brake, without any incident and nobody getting hurt.shortly after this incident i safely returned home by using the emergency brake and parked the vehicle.since it was dark outside when i got home i left all until the next morning to take a look.the following morning behind my left front tire on the ground was a puddle the size of a softball and it was brake fluid, i looked up and traced it to a corroded/rusted/inferior brake line. I called the local gm dealer and was advised there was no recall on my particular vehicle by vin for this issue, so i then called gm customer care and explained what had took place and gm had it towed to a local dealer.currently my vehicle is at the dealership in service and as i await word on gm's position on what they intend to do to correct the issue i came across this site and a countless list of other gm customers that have experienced the same problem.i secured a gm case number, took photos of the corroded/rusted/inferior lines and will await what i hope will be the appropriate response from gm, which is to correct the problem free of charge. I'll update this vehicle safety complaint with the response i receive!

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while exiting a residential driveway, the brakes failed. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the steel brake lines and the calipers were severely rusted and would need to be replaced.the contact was also informed that the front driver's side brake lines were ruptured, due to the severity of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 67,772.

Driving the truck on driveway while plowing. Brakesfailed due to rotten brake lines causing truck to slide off driveway into an embankment. Need to be towed out of revine & to mechanic.

When backing out of a long driveway, the brake pedal suddenly dropped to the floor and brakes did not slow, stop or engage at all.i pumped the brake several times with no response whatsoever and was only able to stop by pulling onto the grass while applying the emergency brake.i found one brake line on the front driver side had rusted through, but none of the others had a leak and the brake fluid was still full.with only one brake line damaged i lost all braking power.

Brake lines rusted out. Very few miles. Gmc is responsible for this.

I drove up to a stop light and pushed the brakes as usual. A brake line burst and i coasted thru the stop light. I used my emergency brake to stop. I think all brake lines should be made from stainless steel up here in wisconsin. This definitely is a safety issue.

The contact ownsa 2005 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the brake lines fractured due to corrosion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 96,146.

The brake line running from the abs modulator to the rear brakes failed causing loss of braking ability.i was able to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.

I have had the brakes go out 3 different times on me in the last year. There are no signs of problems and you step on the brakes and a line blows. You have no brakes peddle goes to the floor and little to no stopping. One time i was coming down a dirt road to a stop sign and stepped on the brakes and a line blew and the abs kicked in because of the dirt road and i could not stop and went right through a intersection. They used cheap lines, and now people in the ne where salt is used are having problems. I could have been killed.the line rusty out where they bend and salt and dirt build up. There is no reason they can not make these lines out of ss or as with the newer lines they are coated. Why come out with a coat line if there is not a problem.

Abs sensor engaging when not required at low speed braking. Occurs at almost every stop. A recall was issued for 98-02 models but is still occurring on mine and it is an 05. Dealer wants to clean sensors but cannot guarantee they wont get broken during extraction at a replacement cost of $280 a wheel.the vehicle is an 05 gmc sierra half ton. I live within the states defined by the previous recall and have been dealing with the problem for at least one year. This seems like something that should not fall financially to the consumer since it is clearly a problem with design that has been lingering for nearly a decade.

Dt*: the contact stated while applying the brake pedal, the front brakes grabbed then faded due to the fact the rear brakes were not working properly.the dealership replaced the front brake pads four times; one set of front rotors and calipers, and adjusted the rear brakes six times, but the problem persisted.

Abs wheel sensors on 2005 gmc p.u.

Was on main road going 50mph and approaching street that i live at, applied brakes to slow down, and pedal when to floor. I then started to downshift into lower gears and applied emergency brake to stop. I had vehicle towed to repair shop and cause was metal brake line to right front wheel was rusted out. Also all the other lines were very rusty and should be replaced.....otherwise others will go soon and it will happen again.it was mentioned that gmc and chevy trucks in a certain year range (such as this) have this problem because the anti-lock system is located near the frame and thus all lines are exposed to salt etc.......where as in a conventional design the anti-lock system is located on the fire wall and only one line (the line that goes to back) is exposed to salt etc and is usually made of rust proof material. The brake line that is used on this truck is made of cheap steel which will rust.....not rust proof lines such as "armor coat type brake lines". This repair cost me $7002nd item: while on the subject of brake system on this truck.....i have found that in certain conditions that the anti-lock brake system is too sensitive and can actually make thing worse under certain conditions.

Anti-lock brake feature engages at low speeds (approx 5 mph and below) which causes increased stopping distance.this is a constant problem at these speeds. No repair has been made yet.this problem is the same as reported by the nhtsa prior to this model year. Reference recall number--05v379000.

I would like to file a complaint against gm for brake line corrosion issues & excessive front rotor/pad wear.i have a 2005 gmc sierra 1500 2wd crew cab with the vortec 5300 motor.i have replaced several sets of front pads and rotors and have been watching the corrosion of the brake lines that lead to the rear wheels.i was not aware there was an investigation until i did search online.motortrend reported in march or april of 2010, an investigation was opened for gm vehicles up to and including model year 2003.i think you need to add 2005 to it also.

2005 gmc sierra 1500 ext cab 4x4 33k miles all brake lines are rotted and one has a hole. Pedal went to the floor and almost didn't stop in time.

Rusted brake lines and frame.

Low speed abs activation causing increased stopping distances and collisions. Dangerous.

Abs activates at low speed on dry pavement.

I did not have an accident with this vehicle.i am filing the complaint because i have previously taken my vehicle to bob jeannotte pontiac-gmc truck, inc., plymouth, mi 48170 (734) 453-2500 to have an inspection for rusted brake lines as well as rusted frame on the above listed incident date.my invoice # is gccs189900 and my customer assistance provided case # is 71-784-24265. I was told it was normal for the conditions by the dealer rep. This vehicle is having continual rust problems to both the brake lines and frame.i am filing this complaint as i understand there is an ongoing investigation into this problem up to year 2003 and would like my vehicle year to be included in these investigation issues.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at higher speeds the vehicle pulsated and under panic braking the front driver side brake locked.the vehicle has been to the dealer on five occasions for this problem where the dealer, on the last visit, replaced the front rotors and the rear drums.after 4000 miles the problem recurred.the dealer has been alerted.the front calipers froze and caused the rotors to overheat. Vehicle shimmies when you apply the brakes at speeds 45 mph. During heavy braking vehicle is hard to control as the steering wheel shakes heavily. Vehicle has been in the garage 3 times for problem. 1st garage visit grooves were present in the rotor 2nd visit rotors were turned and 3rd visit rotors were turned again. Problem isstill occurring.... This problem poses a serious hazard.

Power steering failure. Dealer has attempted to repair number of times nothing has worked. Quits working at any time then began working again. Numerous complaints on other site forums. My concern is not being able to turn/control vehicle. Problem began with-in 1st year of ownership. Truck now has 33,000 and just out of 3 year warranty. Gm has set-up service at another dealership. I just hope problem can be corrected. This is very scary problem to have i just don't trust the steering. I don't want myself and others end up becoming statistics. I hope gm really takes a hard look at this.

At about 30,000 miles i noticed a clunking in my steering column. I have had the front end check everything is tight. I was told it is in the steering column.

The steering was making a clanking noise. When it got worse i took itto dealer under warranty, and they fixed it by replacingit with grease. They stated that when it returne d and iwill be out of warranty i will have to pay to have it fixed" again.

Power steering hose has rusted and began leaking. Noticed a lot of undercarriage and frame rust on the whole truck.

Sometimes steering is hard to steer as if it has no power steering. Installed new power steering pump cleaned all lines & installed new fluid. Have had front end checked twice. Two different mechanics, cannot find any problems. Problem happens very often.

Steering assembly shimmies ridiculously. I have not been contacted about the recall of the steering shaft. Campaign # 05v018000. I am sure there is a problem with the assembly at this point. Fortunately there have been no crashes or complete failure. However i am angry i was not notified of the problem, it has gotten worse in the last two weeks. I thought my tires were out of balance and had that checked twice, and rotated. I drove through curves oncanyon roads everyday to and from work and i now that i am aware of a problem i am very concerned.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc sierra k1500.while driving 25 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle lose power steering and he was unable to steer the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the power steering line had rusted and caused it to leak power steering fluid.the dealer or manufacturer had not been notified.the vehicle was awaiting repairs.the current and failure mileages were 56,600.

Power steering went out while entering (turning left into) parking lot, towed to shop. Shop found broke/defective connection to steering box and leaking fluid. Replaced fitting and tubing, flushed system, and replaced fluid.

I own a 2005 gmc sierra pick-up truck. Somewhere in the steering column there is a clunking noise whenever you turn the steering wheel. I contacted gmc and they stated they were not aware of any problem, however i could take it to a gmc dealer and have it evaluated for about $100.00.i contacted 2 independent service shops and both stated thatis a problem with the gmc's and is caused by movement inside the steering shaft.they would not commit to state that it is a safety hazard, however it does concern me. Since gmc is not concerned, i felt you should be aware of this problem.

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 40 mph, the steering was loose and wobbly.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and lube was added to the steering column.the consumer stated the lube doesn't fix the problem. Updated 09/13/06.

Intermediate steering column began rattling and felt extremely loose at 12,000 miles.dealership lubed part but did not replace.rattling and loose feeling have returned and truck will eventually need to be returned to the dealership for another lube or a replacement part.currently, i have 19,000 miles.

Knocking noise and vibration in steering column.i have taken the vehicle to the dealership on 2 occasions and they've said it's a manufacturing defect and that they are working on a replacement.they greased the column twice and the vibration and noise always comes back.

Steering intermediate shaft rattles / has excessive slack in it. Have had it repaired under warranty and is now doing it again. Dealer will not fix again without charging. I feel like it is a danger to drive the vehicle. Have found many people with the same problem via the internet.

Power steering hose has rusted and began leaking. Noticed a lot of undercarriage and frame rust on the whole truck.

Tailgate latch failure, allows tailgate to drop down with vibration or slight jarring.this results in letting cargo fly out onto highway.can cause an accident and or deaths.

Noticed vehicle vibration from this first week i bought the truck.the dealer said they will look at it and fix any problem..they look at the truck and said the vibration was normal. I went to the automobile complaint center and had a judge listen to the "lemon" issue.the judge order a different machanic to evaluate the truck.he did and said "yes it vibrates too much".the judge asked the gmc company rep what could been done.he saidthe same thing that i have read before... That is to put 500 lbs in the rear of the truck.that did not help.at about 45 mph like tire out of round. At 55 mph and greater, vibration felt like tire out of balance. Gm tells me problem is normal, will not correct. Gm calls the problem "beaming", and suggests placing 500 lbs in bed of truck. Tried this and vibration still exists. Truck shakes so bad at 65 mph that my wife whated to get a heavy duty bra. , . . the vehicle now has developed a harmonic noise at 45 mph and less, which the dealer tells me is also normal and will not repair.

When bought new, between 40 and 60 mph there is a bouncing in the suspension. Fix wasto place 400 lbs just behind the tailgate. I put 330 lbs across the rear axial with good balanced tires. Been this way since 2005 and it's a stupid fix.

The right front axle started rotating in the hub assembly, abs light can on and it started to make grinding sound in my 2005 gmc sierra, the repair was done at the dealers; the service man said that was the second one of these failures he had seen.

A friend was driving my 2005 gmc sierra crew cab 2wd on october 2, 2010 down the interstate on her way to memphis, tn from ash, nc to pick me up. She had the cruise set at 70mph and all of the sudden the speedometer jumped to 110mph! thankfully she was using a gps unit and was able to tell how fast she was actually going.when she met up with me the next morning i looked at the speedometer with the engine off and on and the needle was stuck at 50-60mph with the vehicle sitting still. On the drive back to nc it read anything from 100-120mph at interstate speeds. Just about 2 weeks prior to this the oil pressure gauge started acting up also. I had a mechanic look at it and he said it was a problem with the instrument panel.i have called the local gm dealer's parts department and have been told the that part is approx $300+ and it is uncertain how long it would be to get one in. If the warehouse does not have one in stock they will have to send mine out for repairs and it could take a week. During this time i will not have a vehicle to drive due to the truck being out of warranty and no recall being issued.

The speedometer failed after 75,000 miles.

My speedometer fails intermittently.i was driving to florida from virginia and my speedometer failed on interstate 95.i was summarily arrested in summerton, georgia for speeding.it is dangerous when you don't know your speed.

2005 gmc sierra speedometer is erratic or does not work.
