My air bag didn't go off neither the passenger's airbag. They were alright thank god i received some injuries to my back, neck, stomach and head.my truck was totaled and ivy hall towing in jacksonville, ar keep my truck and put a lien on it. How they except someone to pay after they were in a wreck and lost their job because no ride to get back and forth. My rollover wreck happened on hwy 107 and cleveland in arkansas on march 21st 2018

I have gmc sierra 1500 4wd the airbag light come on , if any recall please help

Air bag sensor icon stays on showing a problem with the front passenger airbag. Don't know what that means other than the air bag is continually off no matter what you do, on the passenger side. Vehicle was not in a wreck or crash or fire. It just came on by itself a couple of months ago and can;t be made to go awayand has stayed on constantly. My concernis the passenger seat is not covered by an air bag in case of a crash . Dealer said air bag sensor is not communicating with the computer. Sensor is $900.00to replace. There are many complaints about this same problem online with other gmc sierras pick ups and gmc vehicles. There is a problem here. Can you help?

Speedometer malfunctioning stays at 50mph> when stopped.

Knocking in the steering shaft assembly began at 20,000 miles.steering shaft has to be greased by service center every 10k miles to prevent knocking.speedometer, odometer, and engine temperature gauges stopped working.speedometer used to register max mph when doing 70mph then stopped working at all.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. While operating the vehicle, the speedometer failed to operate or display a speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the speedometer cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 31,000.

When the weather is below freezing the turn signals do not work until the vehicle has warmed up for atleast 20 minutes. Also the speedometer does not work, and when it does start working it is never the correct reading. It will stick as high as 70 mph, and to bring it down i have to keep restarting and shutting off the engine.

While driving my gmc sierra the speedometer reading is grossly and obviously inaccurate.i took it to my mechanic and he says that gm parts will cost approximately $600 and that this is an extremely common problem that the dealer shop says he sees several times a week on this model of pickup.using my gps for speed monitoring since i don't want to pay gm an exorbitant repair fee for something they aren't standing behind.

Gauges work some times and don't,lights go off and onthe dash when they do this at night it's hard to see what speed your doing our how much fuel you have. This seems to be a problem with a lot of the trucks my neighbors truck is doing the same thing.

2004 gmc sierra crew cab - burning odor, soot on dashboard, rear windows fail to operate. No blown fuses.taken to thompson's gmc dealership in placerville ca for repair on october 20. Gm service department states: wiring harness for rear windowsand door locks passes under and rubs against arm of parking brake pedal, leading to short circuit and failure of rear windows.wiring harness replaced by gm service department. I can see that the new wiring harness also comes into contact with arm of parking brake pedal! i have the old part.consequences: burned wiring, loss of vehicle for 8 days, $772.04 in repair cost.

At first my speedometer would 'tick' and that led to it jumping around.it sticks in various places, sometimes down to the right far off of the gauge itself. My tachometer does the same thing.it has been this way for a while now, i just can't want to fork over $600 to get it fixed.i heard that gm infact has and unpublished bulletin under their goodwill program to fix it - can this be made to be a published bulletin?

All of the vehicle instrument gauges go inoperative intermittently while driving.i have owned this vehicle since new. There has been a gm action of sort on this, of which i am not sure. However, i was never notified and currently am experiencing the problem.we took the vehicle to a gm dealership they said the maintenance action(whatever it is) expired in 2011. So the repair is totally upon us to fix, some $540.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. While operating the vehicle, the instrument cluster gauges flashed off and on and, at times, completely stopped operating. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the local dealer was not notified. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 97,000.

Speedometer flutters and now gives erroneous reading, gas gauge gives false readings.i did some online research and found that there was a problem with the instrument panel cluster and a letter was sent by gmc.i am the original owner and never received a letter and now my instrument cluster is failing.and now am past mileage/years to fix, because i never got the original letter and never new there was a problem.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that he hadto turn the ignition switch various times in order for the vehicle to start. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer fordiagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 62,000. The current mileage was approximately 70,000. Updated 05/28/14 ma

My truck is my back-up vehicle that sits in the side driveway most of the time but i drive when i'm transporting large items or moving to a new home. I recently drove it and noticed the speedometer not working and went searching for information about related issues on the internet when i found a recall notice posted on gmc's website but they are saying it's past the "time" allowed to get the problem fixed. I didn't even know that there was a problem or a time frame to get this done because i don't drive this truck much. Now i have to pay for the dealership's inspection of the instrument panel only to have them tell me that it's indeed broke and that they are not going to repair it under the recall. I'm not sure what to do but i'm hopping mad because this is a problem that other gmc owners probably had repaired but because this was my back-up vehicle, i'm penalized for not having the problem surface earlier before the "time" frame expired. The dealership i currently have my truck at is sheldon gmc in rochester hills, mi 48307 i can be reached at [xxx] call or text. Thank you, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*cc

While driving noticed that i was going faster than the speedometer said.felt like i was going at least 80 when the speedometer said 45 mph.kept watching and when i came to a stop the meter would read below zero.tried restarting the truck and it reset to zero but while holding a set speed the meter would continuously drop.next day worked fine.2 days later i noticed the meter drop off again.when i shut the truck off this time it got stuck at 30mph.drove for a little while and tried shutting it off and starting it again this time it stayed at zero.it told the wife not to drive it until it is fixed.i don't want her in there with my child if there was a wreck due to not knowing what speed the truck is really going.

My speedometer on my 2004 gmc z71 works erratically.sometimes it will peg out at 120 or it sticks at 70 mph.when i see the speedometer, it seems like it is working like a clock.it sticks and releases.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that there was a burning electrical odor inside the vehicle. The contact reached out to the manufacturer regarding the failure of the blower fan resister and was informed that the extended warranty had expired. The contact stated that he never received the notification. The vehicle was taken to cotters gmc (435 hall ave, st mary's, pa 15857, 814-834-2063) and they provide a verbal diagnosis of the blower resister fan and electrical harness failure. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 102,000.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra k1500. While driving at any speed, the contact stated that the speedometer would display the correct speed and then it remained at the same speed regardless of how fast or slow he was driving. The contact did not inform the dealer. The manufacturer was notified and advised him that there were no related recalls. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. The current mileage was approximately 119,000. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

In my 2004 gmc sierra the wiring harness for the a/c down near the passenger floorboard smokes and i smell burning plastic and my a/c doesn't work and i talked to a few other gmc and chevy owners and they have the same problem. So if alot of people are having the same problem i think its something to look into...

I have a problem with my speedometer.every day after driving it for 30 +/- miles the speedometer stops.sometimes at 50 sometimes at 0 mph.once i begin to drive it will sometimes go from 50 to 100 or it will stay where it stopped. This started about 18 months ago but it only happened once every couple months.now it happens daily.i have learned that after leaving it set for a few hours i start it up, put it into drive and turn it off.with the gearshift in drive i try starting it and each time i turn the key the speedometer goes from 50 to 40 to 30 and then back to 0.once at zero i start the truck and the speedometer will be accurate for at least 30+/- miles.

Speedometer reads 30 mph over what it should.not only that, the 4wd sensor when out.only used 4wd less than 10 times.truck has less than 51k miles.

The gauges began to spin and not work properly or not function at all. Also the brake lights do not function when the gauges and dash lights flash or remain on. The abs light brake light and the battery light and the security light all come on. Also along with all the other problems when all this happens the headlights dim the fourwheel drive doesn't function and the volume level on the stereo changes.

Speedometer is erratic in function i have 44,000 miles on my 2004 gmc sierra and the speedometer is in need of repair or replacement.

Instrument cluster works intermittently. Speedometer, fuel gauge etc, do not work at random times. (while operating the vehicle, or not) the lights on the instrument cluster also dim, flicker, and sometimes go out completely. This particular vehicle has very low mileage, (used as a recreational vehicle, not primary transportation) it was purchased new and has been well maintained.

Steering column clunking, speedometer not working, transmission stopped working .everything started going wrong about. 63,000 k . I have 116,000 know. 2004 z71 crewcab.

I received a letter from gm stating my vehicles instrument cluster may give false readings. If your vehicle is doing this, take this letter to your gm dealer and they will fix the problem if it's not then you don't need to. It also stated that the warranty for this is 70,000 miles and they would not replace the cluster if it was not giving false readings. At 93,721 my fuel gauge started malfunctioning, and at 94,066 miles my speedometer reading was over 120mph, and i was not even moving. Now when i drive through a school zone or neighborhood i have no idea how fast i'm going. I didn't even have 100,000 miles on the vehicle when these problems started happening.when i took my vehicle in to get it fixed under the warranty they told me it was out of warranty and would not cover the parts.so much for gmc professional grade. The logo they use when selling there vehicles on tv. I have saved pictures on my cell phone showing the actual mileage when these false readings occurred.

I have been having trouble starting my 2004 gmc, sometime when i turned the key it would do nothing, i had it towed in and spent over $500 to repair it, alternator, battery etc, and it did not fix the problem. When i got it back, and it did it again, i found that if i moved the steering wheel up and down with the lever, it would then start.yesterday i went out to start my truck in my driveway, and the key will not turn in the ignition. It feels like the ignition came apart or something inside. The steering wheel is not locked. It is ridiculous that i will have to pay to have this vehicle towed in again and pay to repair the ignition, when gm has been having huge problems with ignitions! i have had other problems with this vehicle to include a fire under the dash. My insurance covered it because a fuse melted and did not do it's job, however now my speedometer does not work, and they want me to pay for a new wiring harness which i will not do. I use my gps to track my speed! the rear transfer case went on it, and i spent $1,800 to have a new one installed. There have been other small things, but those are the major problems i have had over the years. I am like every other average person. I had no idea how to get gm to fix them, so i just paid myself! when i was researching how to replace the ignition, i came across your site. I have no idea what i can do about this or how to go about it. I need my truck as soon as possible, so i will probably get stuck paying again! thank you

My speedometer on my 2004 gmc sierra has become erratic.sometimes it is zero even if the vehicle is moving.sometimes it registers 120 mph sitting still.it is very difficult to judge speed in school zones.no know events led to the failure.the repair bill will be about $500 i am told.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500.while driving 45 mph, the contact released the accelerator pedal, but the speedometer dial remained at 40 mph.while driving approximately 30 mph and coming to a complete stop, the speedometer dial increased to approximately 100 mph.the dealer advised her to bring them the vehicle for repairs, estimated at over $500.no repairs have yet been made.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 74,000.

I have a 2004 gmc sierra pickup and the speedometer broke about 4 months ago. Can anything be done by the company that wont cost me over 400 dollars.

Battery runs down drained, control panel lights goes out. Ac quit working.vehicle sits in our yard most of the time.we have to charge battery every day in order to go anywhere.

Speedometer in 2004 gmc sierra 1500 has failed.dealership is wanting $450 to fix when gm acknowledges defects in speedometer assembly.

2004 gmc k1500 z71 - speedometer reads incorrectly 0-100 mph off of actual speed.

2004 gmc sierra truck speedometer reads over 120mph when driving on highway and reads 30 to 60mph when stopped.repeated starting and turning off engine resets the speedometer to 0 when stopped, but only for a short time.it jumps back up to over 120mph when driving again.

Speedometer stops working at times, gets stuck around 70mph while driving sometimes at other speeds. When the truck is turned off it does not go to zero instead it goes to 20-40mph and then i guess it thinks that's where zero starts. Truck only had 42,000 miles when these problems started and it seems to be getting worse. The truck is a 2004 gmc sierra z71 almost new. Sometimes i don't know how fast i'm going when this happens.

Speedometer fails to reset to zero. When vehicle comes to a stop, the speedometer indicator stops at a speed above zero (i.e., 30, 40, 50 mph). When the vehicle resumes traveling, the speedometer indicator starts incrementing at the speed at which it stopped (i.e., 30, 40, 50 mph). Therefore, the indicated speed is much higher than the actual speed. This is not one incident, but an ongoing continuous problem, and very dangerous.

2004 gmc sierra pickup speedometer is very erratic.indicated speeds are not accurate.sometimes speedometer indicates 40-60 mph when truck is not moving.

Faulty speedometer readings on a 2004 gmc sierra with 40,000 miles.

Speedometer quit working. Has been acting up for months did not work at all today.

2004 gmc sierra speedometer gives erroneous readings at highway speed.caused inadvertent and braking, unsafe speed and loss of situational awareness.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500.while driving 65 mph and approaching a stop, the speedometer continued to display that the vehicle was traveling 65 mph.after resuming at approximately 25 mph, the speedometer displayed 75 mph.when the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, the speedometer went from 70 - 140 mph before he resumed driving.the speedometer remained there after the vehicle was turned off and has not changed.the vehicle has not yet been diagnosed.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 62,000.

I have had two occurrences where the speedometer sticks and/or registers speeds different from what is being driven. In the latest instance, while driving 65 mph on an interstate it started fluctuating to where it was registering 120 mph. When i stopped at a truck stop and shut the engine off it was still registering 40 mph. The first time this happened, i was driving in heavy rain. I thought possibly the rain may have had something to do with it if moisture had gotten in to the electronics somewhere. After a few days it started working normally again until last night.

Speedometer stopped working, stuck at 55mph.apparently a well-known, well-documented factory defect.no recall apparently has been issued.at some point traffic deaths will be attributable to this defect.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 35 mph, the instrument panel failed without warning. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

The speedometer is not working correctly.the speeds shown on the speedometer have nothing to do with the actual speed of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the fuel tank strap fractured due to corrosion. Also, the brake lines were rusted and the instrument panel gauges were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who replaced the brake lines. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 104,000.

Speedometer acting erratic, speedometer may register 120 mph when i'm going 60 mph.then it finally quits. It costs a lot of money to get replaced. I do not know how fast or slow i'm going which endangers me and everybody around me.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500.when taking long trips, the speedometer increases to 120 mph and goes back down to 0.the failure occurred while driving at any speed.the vehicle has not yet been taken to the dealer or a mechanic.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 46,000 and failure mileage was 45,800.

I have a 2004 z71 sierra truck with a 5.3 engine that has a speedometer problem. It reads 120mph all of the time and they have quoted me around $550 to fix. I also have a clunk in the steering wheel when turning. I have had this problem fixed once by warranty but it has returned again.

I have a 2004 gmc sierra and while driving home from work the other day, my speedometer jumped all the way up to 105mph.when i came to a stop light the odometer read 50mph, even though i wasn't moving.this is a huge safety concern for me.i had been noticing strange gage reading on my cluster panel for approximately the last 5,000 miles (started at 72k).my truck now has 78,000 miles on it and the dealership said they would cover the parts for a replacement instrument panel but, i would have to pay for the diagnosis and the labor.since this is a know safety issue, gm shouldn't be left to figure out if they can side step a wide spread problem and put people's lives at risk. Customers should not have to fight for repairs and further put their families in unsafe vehicles while these kinds of issues get sorted out.

I have a 2004 gmc sierra.for the last 3 months the speedometer has been acting funny.at times it will say i am drivinga lot slower than i actually was.for example, this morning, it said i was going 10 mph and i was probably going about 30-35 mph.i turned off the vehicle and it reset.yesterday while driving on a trip, the speedometer stuck on 75 mph.i did not realize it until cars started passing me on the interstate and when i checked my gps system, it said i was going around 60 mph.the speedometer is just all over the board.sometimes the speed is correct, sometimes its slower and sometimes its faster.i believe this is a real safety concern since the driver does not know how fast they maybe really going.i have checked on the internet and it looks like this is a common problem.

Speedometer not working.

I have a 2004 gmc sierra ext. Cab truck with about 70k miles on it.in the past week, the speedometer started reading higher than 120 mph while driving.i was only doing around 50 mph.when stopped it reads around 60 mph.i can start and turn off the engine several times and the speedometer needle will drop around 10 mph each time it starts.when it gets to 0, it will read fine for a little while and then gradually start climbing up past 120 mph again.2nd complaint.around every 20k to 25k miles, i have to take the truck to the dealer and have a new steering column grease packing kit installed because the steering column starts knocking in the engine compartment.the first 2 times it was done was under warranty, now the warranty is up and it needs another packing done.the dealer wants me to pay for this one.this has been an ongoing problem since i bought the truck brand new.

I have a 2004 gmc sierra that the speedometer is sticking. I have found on numerous web sites that lots of people are having the same trouble. Apparently the 2004 gmc instrument cluster is having all kinds of problems with faulty gauges.

I hear a tapping of the valves when the car is on.also the speedometer will stop registering how fast i am going.

I currently own a 2004 gmc sierra and my speedometer works on an intermittent basis.when the truck is fully stopped the speedometer registers at a varying speed limit from 10-50 mph, depending on the day.

Speedometer gauge is showing wrong speed went to local dealership and they said they have had many complaints but it is not a recall and price to fix is $450-$550.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the fuel gauge failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,892.

My 2004 gmc sierra 1500 has erratic speedometer malfunctions. I first noticed this on a trip with my speedometer reading 65 mph and all the traffic of a 4 lane expressway was passing me. I then realized my portable gps unit was reading a much slower speed. Speeding up to the gaps reading my truck speedometer registered 110 mph. At times the readings are reversed. And at other times the speedometer doesn't work at all. After research on the internet i?ve discovered gm has used faulty ?cluster stepper motors? and many customers are having this same problem and gm knows about the problem. Fortunately there haven?t been any reported deaths yet due to the problem one would hope that a recall would result before there are fatalities.

2004 gmc sierra at 50,000 miles developed a speedometer short in the instrument cluster which caused wild swings in mph readings. After mentioning it to a friend with a chevy silverado, same year and mileage , i found he had the identical problem . I had the cluster replaced at my cost.

I have received 3 traffic(speeding tickets) within2 month time frame. The speedometer has to be faulty. Can you send me something to help me be granted any leniency from the courts?

Speedometer sticks and gives false readings.

2004 gmc sierra 1500 with 46,500 miles - yesterday the speedometer stopped resetting back to 0, rather it stayed up around 60-90 when the truck was stopped as well as turned off.called dealer in an attempt tohave this repaired under the special coverage adjustment/instrument cluster (effective as of 9-28-07).

Speedometer not working properly.

I have a 2004 gmc sierra z71, and the speedometer has begun to perform erratically.it no longer returns to 0 while stopped, and never goes below 35 mph.this has just begun, and apparently judging by the number of similar complaints (over 350 in one forum alone) i have found on web forums this is a very well known problem to gm.

Speedometer does not work.

Speedometer not working properly. Reads 35 mph when stopped/not running and 40-50 mph higher than actual speed when driving.

I have a 2004 gmc sierra that has a malfunctioning speedometer. It shows reading anywhere from 0-100 mph over what you are traveling at. With the truck turened off - the speedometer will show it at speeds of up to 100 mph. This all started at about the 40,000 mile mark. We previously had a 2004 chevy 5500 truck that too began w/ speedometer trouble at the 40,000 mile range. We know several other people with a 2004 chevy/gmc all of whom have this same problem. Checking around the internet and it appears that this is a huge problem that should warrant a recall before something tragic could happen.

1 speedometer registering 120 sitting still ( replaced cluster). 2 wipers would not shut off ( replaced wiper motor circuit board) 3. Knock in column ( replaced intermediate shaft).

Speedometer suffers erratic operation. I have of a picture of the speedometer registering 90 mph while idling in the drive way. At highway speedthe speedometer is "off the scale."

Speedometer displays erroneous readings, never correct.

- the contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra pick up with a current and failure mileage of 40,000 miles. The contact stated that the speedometer was working improperly. When the vehicle was at astop the speedometer read that the vehicle was traveling at 120 mph. While driving the speedometer was not registering the speed correctly.the contact would keep up with the flow of traffic to try to gage the vehicles speed.the contact has been to the dealer, and was told that they had to replace the speedometer motor. Ak updated 05/23/07.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500.the speedometer worked intermittently and displayed inaccurate speeds before completely failing.the vehicle was under warranty, but the dealer stated that the failure was not a warranty item.the vehicle was not repaired at that time and has since worsened.general motors has a letter of intent on the instrument panel, but because the vehicle has exceeded the 70,000 miles specified in the letter, the contact was denied the repair.the current mileage was 98,000 and failure mileage was 60,000.

My gmc sierra crew cabk1500 z-71 speedometer began malfunctioning around 37,000 miles.it will stick at 0, or sometimes at 20 or 50.the problem is intermittent and gets better sometimes if i stop and turn off the engine.now volt meter is not working properly.this is a safety hazard, since i can't tell the mph that i am driving.i regularly carry my 2 small sons and this is quite scary.i have noticed that this is a recurring problem with many gm products this age.general motors has a major problem here !

On my 2004 gmc sierra 1500 nov 10, 2010 the speedometer just quit working while backing out the yard it jumped up to 70mph and now this happened and the rpm meter is stuck at 0 also could this be a serious problem because my wife use this vehicle to drive to work.

Please help we recently purchased our son a 2004 gmc sierra pickup ,truck is excellent shape not to many miles etc. He has put about 200 miles on the truck and all of a sudden his speedometer quits his fuel gage wont register right,we take it in and they say it is a cluster panel problem cost about 600 to fix, they told me there is alot of this with this year model why is there not a recall ,i came home and researched the internet and found hundreds of complaints why is gm getting away with this hopefully there would be no deaths related to this but this is a problem hope you can help thanks

While driving the speedometer stuck at 60 mph and would not return to zero.when the truck was restarted and driven the speedometer went around past the 120 mph on the gauge.i did get the speedometer back to zero by starting and then turning the ignition off quickly.i continued to do these because the speedometer would fall aprox 5 mph every time that i did this.it took about 12 times to get it down to zero.this is the first problem that i have encountered with my 2004 gmc.i have about 29000 miles on this truck.

2004 gmc sierra speedometer failure. Sticks on 40-50 mph.

Upon entering the vehicle there was no power.aaa was called, and it would not take a jump.the dealer repaired the battery cable bolt that became defectivefrom acid.the battery cable prong and wires were replaced at consumer's expense.*sc

Dt*:the contact stated while driving various speeds, the engine stalled without warning and would not restart.the vehicle was towed to a dealer who determined the ignition harness needed replaced.after the ignition harness replacement, the problem persisted.the vehicle is currently awaiting further inspection by the dealer.the manufacturer was alerted.

When i turn on my air condition the left side blow out hot heat.

Battery runs down drained, control panel lights goes out. Ac quit working.vehicle sits in our yard most of the time.we have to charge battery every day in order to go anywhere.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the valve head was cracked and the anti-freeze wasdepleted; however, there were no visible leakage. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 131,000.

Cracked cylinder heads, also known as castech head casting #706 these heads crack on the engine cause antifreeze to mix with the oil and destroy the engine, i have contacted gm and they will do nothing for me, even though there has been lawsuits and its a very well known problem with the vortec 4.8 and 5.3l gm engine.

Exhaust manifold bolts broke off causing the drivers side heat shield to fall and jam under the steering linkage. This caused me to almost drive off the road. I had to force the steering wheel to get the vehicle to turn.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated the head gasket leaks radiator fluid into the motor. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic that diagnosed that the engine head needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. During the failure, the temperature gauge reading was high and steam appeared from under the hood. The dealer stated that the engine cylinder head was cracked. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 76,400.

I hear a tapping of the valves when the car is on.also the speedometer will stop registering how fast i am going.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, he heard a noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic, who stated that the failure was due to the cylinder heads being cracked, causing the engine to lose oil and coolant. The local mechanic replaced the cylinder heads, the gasket kit, bolts and nuts. The manufacturer denied assistance with the repairs. The failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 79,520.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the radiator did not have a peacock to drain its coolant from. An authorized dealer was notified and the contact was informed that the manufacturer stopped using peacocks to save money. The contact expressed concern over the situation because it could lead to a failure of the radiator. The failure and current mileages were 28,000. The vin was unavailable. I was informed that the lower radiator hose must be removed to change coolant. In doing so the hose can be destroyed and coolant could be spilt on the ground. Updated 10/11/2011 *ln

I also had to have the actuator replaced on my gmc 2004 truck. It was blowing hot when the a/c was on and should have been cooling. It was not cheap either, it also had to be recalibrated in the computer system. I didn't expect that to happen to a new vehicle.

Heater core/no heat sometimes/found carpet wet on pass. Side. Seems in checking around hardly never@47,000 mi. Spent 1200.00 to replace it. Apparently must remove seats, console, and entire dash to replace!!! im really, really made about this!!

I own a 2004 gmc sierra 1500 that is currently being repaired for cracks in both engine heads. The truck has 90,000 miles on it and i have kept up on all necessary maintenance. The problem began approx. 2 months ago when i noted a knocking sound after starting the truck cold. The knocking would dissipate after the truck warmed up. I was told the sound was caused from dirty lifters and not to be concerned as long as sound dissipated after it was warm. Upon having my oil changed 2 days ago, coolant was noted in the oil. (hints the knocking) the heads were pulled and both were cracked around where the heads bolt to the block. In talking to the mechanic, the cast they used when making the heads was bad. Apparently around the bolt holes, the aluminum is thin. Gmc however accepted millions of these and are still using them today. The repair is costing me $3,400.00.

Engine failure 2004 gmc sierra service bulletin 06-06-01-019b internal coolant loss leak in cylinder heads mfg by costech lead to my engines death with just 89,000 miles.this is a know problem since 2004 and from other people i have learned gm will not cover expenses.

Since the purchase of my vehicle, there have been multiple issues with the vehicle7-8 issues, one selling point was the onsatr cellular service, never worked, etc. Etc. Etc.the salient matter at this time is that the drive train orginally exhibited a clincking sound shifting from 2nd-3rd and from 3rd-2nd, the noise was sporadic and went from a clincking to a decirnable clunk all the time, the dealer has attempted multiple repairs and now states the matter is a concern but it is not a problem, the oem, gmc, has states that ther is nothing they can do, the problem is getting worse and i am running out of options, i can not sell it as is.

Gauges work some times and don't,lights go off and onthe dash when they do this at night it's hard to see what speed your doing our how much fuel you have. This seems to be a problem with a lot of the trucks my neighbors truck is doing the same thing.

My 2004 gmc sierra would light all four turn signals when the left turn signal was applied, as if the hazard lights were on. Took it to dealer and they said they had never seen anything like it before. Paid almost 200 dollars to get it looked at and fixed. After going home, i see that other sierra users have the same problem. More shocking, i see that gm had the exact same problems with some envoys, barbados, trailblazers, and others, and performed a safety recall at no charge. It is outrageous that all vehicle owners with these problems were not notified and the faulty components replaced. Have been trying to get in touch with gm about this and they have yet to send me anything but carbon-copy e-mails and runarounds.

Fuel tank has rusted steel support straps; rear strap broke and tank dropped a few inches placing additional pressure on rusted front support strap. Tank would bounce up and down due to bumps in road. Fortunately my friend, following my truck, alerted me and we secured tank with a length of rope. Had he not alerted me it is likely front strap would have failed, dropping tank onto pavement. The defect was noted just before i was about to proceed ontointerstate 93. Had the front strap failed, the fuel tank would have dragged for a distance at high speed, possibly causing an explosion/fire. This is the first time i have ever had a fuel tank dislodge and i normally keep vehicle for 150,000 miles and 10 years.highly recommend vehicles with steel fuel tank support straps be recalled for inspection; in northeast where salt is used on highways, steel on the undercarriage of a vehicle will rust. Fuel tank support straps should be made of stainless steel or another material that is not subject to degradation/corrosion due to road salt. Occupants of vehicles, first responders and others are at risk due to this design flaw.

Internal failure of part in fuel tank that causedthe fuel gauge to not read accurately, but allowedthe low fuel light to operate correctly. This partwas not a part of the fuel pump, but workedin conjunction with the pump as the pumpwasa warranty item ,and this partwas not.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. While operating the vehicle, the engine suddenly stalled. It was discovered that the vehicle was out of fuel; however, the fuel gauge indicated that the tank was half full at the time of the incident. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer (garcia buick gmc, 2721 cerrillos rd, santa fe, nm 87507) were both notified, but no assistance was offered. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 160,000.

Corroded brake lines. This has been reported previously. I was driving down rural road getting ready to turn in my driveway when my brakes gave out. I was lucky enough to be able to get it into the gravel driveway without killing someone. When i looked underneath to find the brake lines were corroded and one had burst. I had part of the line fixed with copper tubing. I have since had 2 more lines burst. As well as a fuel line leak. This has become frustrating.*dt

Vehicle had less than 20,000 miles when right rear brake disc wore completely out. Had to replace again at 40,000 miles. This only affects the right rear brake.truck has automatic transmission and parking brake has never been used, and is completely worn out.i know that there is a recall on manual trans mission, but seems there is also a problem on the automatic.

The parking brake cable broke when putting our 2004 1500 gmc sierra into park.the vehicle can no longer be parked at an angle or it will roll.a part has been ordered but the vehicle has not been repaired yet.gmc was contacted but we were told that a recall for a similar situation only effects vehicles made in 1999-2002.

Transfer case nv 246 internal oil pump wears hole in magnesium case and leaks oil completely out of transfer case. Oil coats underside of vehicle including hot exhaust system. Smoke appeared from vehicle. Transfer case made abnormal grinding noise and then overheated damaging internal components. Transfer case requires replacement. Vehicle was completely disabled because of failure. Fire was averted. Vehicle maintained at dealer exclusively except for oil changes. Dealer never provided any info regarding potential major design flaw. Repair quote from dealer $2200.

Steering column clunking, speedometer not working, transmission stopped working .everything started going wrong about. 63,000 k . I have 116,000 know. 2004 z71 crewcab.

Power train pcm defective with transfer case with bad designing with shoe pump, and brake line corroded and leak. Brake system will not prevent vehicle to stop when brake lines are leak. For my 2004 i was lucky driving on slow speed on city road, and i was able to use emergency brake to stop my truck.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500.while making a left or right turn at 15 mph, the contact heard a noise coming from the steering shaft.the dealer lubricated the steering shaft and the noise ceased.however, the noise has currently returned.the dealer stated that this was a maintenance issue that would have to be corrected on a regular basis.the failure mileage was 18,000 and current mileage was 46,000.updated 12/12/2007 the consumer also stated the transmission shuttered. 2004 gmc sierra sle w/trailer towing package, 2-wheel drive. 2nd owner. Never used to tow whatsoever. Extremely well cared for. 59,665 miles.started making "roaring" noise from read end. Called gm to ascertain if help for problem available.they told me to take it to lawrence-hall, abilene, texas for evaluation.lawrence hall says bearing in differential has failed.gm refuses to help in any way whatsoever with the repair, and even says that i am liable for the cost of the evaluation, even though they are the ones who told me to take it there, and even though they never said that they would not pay for it.when they told me to take it there, they implied that they would pay for the evaluation.i contend that at 59,000 that bearing should never have failed; that millions of vehicles go 2, 3 and 4 times that distance and never have that problem, and that had this locked up, it could have caused death and injury to driver, passenger and others.also contend that gm should have told me that if they declined to pay for the repair, that i would be liable for the diagnostic charge.when i dropped the vehicle off, the service manager told me 3 times that "the courtesy vehicle is out there waiting for you," implying for me to hurry up and get out there, but then, as i was on my way out the door, brought me a clipboard and told me to fill in my contact info "so we can get a hold of you."i handed it back to him, and he said i needed to sign it to give them permission to work on it.because he had been rushing me, i signed it and walked out.now it appears that they think that since i signed that form that i acknowledge to them that i am liable for the cost of the repair.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra. The contact was towing a boat and discovered there was transfer case oil splattered all over the boat. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair facility where he was informed that there was a hole in the transfer case. A new transfer case and pump housing were installed at the independent repair facility. The failure did not recur. The failure and current mileages were 82,000.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact was driving 35 mph when the brakes failed. The vehicle was driven at a low speed to the contact's residence and was not inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the incident. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.

Got in my car and proceeded to go down the road i was doing about 45 miles an hour i hit the brakes to slow down and the brake pedal went the whole way to the floor after i got stopped and checked it out the brake lines are completely rusted through.

Entire brake line failure do to rusted brake lines.

Brake for rr crossing, peddle went to floor. Towed to garage.

This occurred on 8/13/2013 in central virginia and the truck had 93461 miles on it. While moving my 2004 gmc sierra 1500 truck in my driveway, my brake pedal went to the floor because the rear passenger side brake line had burst. There was no warning light or chime indicating a brake system issue. The dual master cylinder system only provided enough braking to slightly slow the vehicle down and the parking brake didn't help much. I had it towed to a shop and they said it was due to a corroded steel brake line. They told me that they have had to replace these lines frequently in a large number of chevrolet and gmc pickup trucks.they replaced the line and i had planned to replace all of the other lines in a few months. Two weeks after the repair was done and approximately 50 miles later, another line failed while i was driving approximately 45 mph. Again, there was no warning lights or chimes and the pedal went to the floor.i estimate that there was approximately 5 to 10% braking power and was unable to stop the vehicle.the parking brake did help some but is no a substitute for a real emergency brake that the older vehicles used to have. Additionally, it is not easy to lift your foot up to it as the pedal is mounted somewhat high off the floor. The repair shop said that this time it was a steel line running to the master cylinder and could be seen leaking fluid from inside the engine compartment.i had them replace all the lines. I don't understand why the nhtsa hasn't demanded a recall of these vehicles for the corroded brake lines and the failure of the dual master cylinder system to offer any reliable method of stopping the vehicle. I have had several other vehicles that are much older than this truck and their lines were always rust free and never failed. Although most are not recorded here, there are thousands of gm truck owners reporting the same problem.

I was approaching a stop sign driving approximately 45 mph. When i applied the brakes the pedal went to the floor, and the vehicle wouldn't stop. I maneuvered past several vehicles almost striking them. I was able to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle after some distance past the intersection. I am a police officer with 25 years on the job. I have attending various driving courses related to my profession. If a lay person was in this situation a serious accident would have happened. I barely escaped the accident due in part to training and a large amount of luck. On the day of the incident the vehicle had stopped normal at three prior intersections without giving any warning of a potential problem.i have read on line the theory about the salt causing the damage to the brake lines. I have never driven this vehicle in the snow since it is a spare vehicle. The vehicle has 72000 miles a large majority of those miles driven on the highway (summer and fall). I bought this vehicle new from the dealership in 2004. The cost to repair the brake lines was $1,100 dollars. A recall should be made in regards to this defect before someone is killed or seriously injured. I had a mechanic shop repair the vehicle since the dealership claimed they had no other reported failures on this vehicle. A quick look on various websites showed that to be a false claim. Anyone driving these types of vehicles please have your brake lines inspected by a mechanic.

I was backing out of my garage when suddenly the brake pedal went to the floor. After the brake pedal went to the floor the abs brake warning light and service brakes light came on. I was able to push down on the emergency brake pedal before striking my other truck which was parked behind me. Being somewhat mechanically inclined, i saw a line of brake fluid on the ground in front of the truck extending beneath it. I looked underneath the truck, almost directly below the drivers seat and sawa bundle of steel brake lines that were nothing but a solid mass of rust and dripping brake fluid! the rusting is so bad that i can't tell whether it's one or all of the brake lines rusted through! since i'm retired (and don't have to drive in bad weather)and have another older truck i drive most of the time, the gmc has rarely seen bad weather (i purchased it new) and when it did it was always pressure washed (underneath) at the car wash immediately after the snow or ice had ended! my brother who is a mechanic recently had to replace all the rusted brakes lines on a 2005 chevy truck.

Brakes engaged the antilock device even as i was driving on dry pavement. This happened often, and if you are not careful with following distance you'll rear end the vehicle in front of you. This happens in a random fashion that the antilock device gets engaged.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the brake line had rusted completely. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer but the details of the repairs were unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure milage was not available.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph uphill, the brake pedal was depressed without any response from the vehicle. The emergency brake was engaged in order to stop the vehicle from accelerating any farther. The contact parked the vehicle and noticed that the brakes lines were completely corroded due to excessive rust. In addition, brake fluid was leaking. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,600.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the brake lines were deteriorating and the material was rusted. As a result, brake fluid ws constantly leaking and the brakes had become hard to engage. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a private mechanic. The manufacturer was notified who stated that there were no recalls for the vehicle and offered no assistance. The vin was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 78,000.

Total brake failure. Due to rusted lines brake fluid poured out.

04 gmc sierra 1500 extended cab front steel brake lines corrosion/rusted and burst caused sudden fluid leakage and failure to stop placed me in a dangerous/hazardous situation. Finding a reliable shop, expensive towing and repairs caused tremendous burden and inconvenience.

While driving in the city my brake pedal went all the way to the floor and i had minimal braking power.i was able to stop the vehicle safely but the brakes lines are completely gone.they are all rusted and have several holes in them and must be replaced.

Brake lines are rusting causing brake failure due to pressure/fluid loss

Power train pcm defective with transfer case with bad designing with shoe pump, and brake line corroded and leak. Brake system will not prevent vehicle to stop when brake lines are leak. For my 2004 i was lucky driving on slow speed on city road, and i was able to use emergency brake to stop my truck.

Driving vehicle, and lost brakes. Discovered the brake line had rusted thru causing loss of fluids. After researching this i found out this is a very common problem with certain year model gm vehicles. This is a extremely dangerous situation, and i cant believe there has not been a recall on this. Does it really take deaths for gm to act on defects they are aware of? i have a 1988 jeep wrangler and the brake lines look a lot better than those on my truck. The sad thing is you cant even buy the break lines from the dealer because they don't sell them, would someone please look deeper into this before someone else gets killed or injured.

While backing in driveway, brake pedal hit the floor with no pressure. Lost all fluid in system. 3 brake line to break in 4 years.

As i approached a major intersection the traffic light turned yellow and i applied the brakes preparing to stop.the brakes failed and the petal went to the floor. The truck rolled halfway into the intersection before i was able to step on the emergency brake and fully stop the truck. The dashboard flashed on indicating "repair brakes"...a little too late to help.if i had a vehicle in front of me , i would have hit it and possible injuries would have resulted.i had my daughter in the front passenger seat and was glad for seat belts.

While coming to an intersection the brakes were applied and the pedal became soft and when to the floor, without slowing the vehicle down.the transmission was shifted into neutral and the emergency/parking brake was applied immediately in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle went to the local dealership where the diagnosis was a brake line had ruptured due to corrosion (rust) on the driver side rear line.the other three lines were in a similar state and had the potential to fail at any time.there was no indication on the message center that there was ever inadequate pressure to stop the vehicle with the hydraulic brake system even when it was steered to the side of the road and the brake pedal was applied to put the transmission into park.

Driving into the village, had to stop for someone making a left turn, and the brake pedal went to the floor.complete braking failure.no accident, i was able to pull off to the right, but real scary, my son was with me.got the truck home and now all the brake fluid ran down the drive way. Looks like gm went cheap again, the brake lines are horribly rusted and the fluid is leaking from an area just under the drivers seat.

Brake failure!brake line rusted through allowing fluid to leak out.i do not understand why they have safety belts, air bags, safety glass, and many other safety features on cars and trucks but do not make it mandatory that all brake components (lines) are not made of stainless steel tubing!being unable to stop in an emergency because of brake failure can result in many catastrophic accidents and unnecessary deaths or injuries!

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 mph a deer suddenly jumped in the middle of the street. The contact immediately depressed the brake pedal but they extended to the floor and failed to stop the vehicle. Immediately following the failure the brake light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer stated the entire brake line needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 118,000.

Brake fluid line rusted completely through.lost brakes with family in truck while at 45 miles an hour and three (3) miles from home.drove home on shoulder of road with drag on transmission to stop.very disappointed that this has not be recalled sooner.

On january 24, 2017 traveling on pa turnpike at posted speed limit of 70mph, when i applied brakes to slow when approaching slower vehicles. Brake pedal went to the floor and vehicle almost ran into the rear of slower vehicles. Metal brake line ruptured above left front wheel. When inspected, all brake lines exhibited extreme rust/corrosion to the point of flaking and thinning. This is an extreme safety issue which could have resulted in a major collision and would have injured or killed occupants. This problem is a major known safety defect and needs to be remedied by gm.

Incident #1while traveling at 50 mph on a country road i applied brakes to decelerate for a 75 degree right hand bend in the road.the brake pedal went to the floor.i had to column shift down through third, second, and then to first gear, to slow down.i was unable to get to emergency brake.fortunately it was on a lightly traveled road and there was no on coming traffic as i had to veer into that lane to make the turn. I was able to hobble home, with hazards on,by downshifting to slow down.the truck was towed to local repair shop.the rear brake lines had failed and were replaced.incident #2while traveling at30 mph traveling down hill a raccoon ran across the road.i applied brakes in a defensive manner and the pedal went to the floor.i again had to column shift through third, second, and then hobble down hill in first gear. I was unable to engage emergency brake. I was able to hobble home down shifting through the gears. The truck wasagain tosame shop and i had them replace all brake lines.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that when attempting to apply the brakes, the brake pedal extended to the floor. After inspecting the vehicle he noticed that brake fluid was leaking and the brake lines were corroded which caused it to burst. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 48,000. The current mileage was 70,892.

I was driving on my way home from a restaurant, just about 4 blocks from my home i applied my brakes and anti lock brakes was acting up and i pressed a little hard to stop before a stop light and the pedal went right to the floor. I had to drive very slow to get my truck to my home as i have no brakes.by the time i parked my parking spot i got out and opened my hood to look at the brake drum didn't see anything and proceeded to look underneath my truck and found a puddle of brake fluid just under drivers side bottom.i was amazed to see that and it looked so rusted, couldn't pinpoint where the leak is coming from on the lines it was all soaked with the fluid.right now i feel that the gm corporation should replace all the lines at a no costto me. They should not have put an inferior product on the truck and it is dangerous they can have someone killed if the brakes fail on a higher speed !!! they tricked the customer into buying a quality made trucks and its not! it is made of cheap cheap cheap quality parts that i spend on with my money when i brought the sierra 1500 new from a gm dealer in july 2004 mileage at the time happened around 118385.

I purchased this vehicle brand new in 2004 and have taken very good care and almost 100,00 miles in almost 14 years however i applied the brake and all the brak fluid came out i had to drive over a person lawn to avoid hitting a person and a moving vehicle on 7/1/2017 due to rusty brake line and checking all lines were rusted . I am almost 75 years old and very concerned i was aware the lines were all rusted due to imported brake lines with inferior metals, never heard about and notice or recall.i almost injured a person and hit a car if i did not drive on someones lawnthe vehivle was moving about 35 mph .

While exiting the highway driver pressed brake pedal which sank all the way to the floor with approx 5 percent braking power. Driver lifted off and reapplied the brakes in an attempt to fix problem at this point a dash light and alarm illuminated to warn of brake issues; braking power was still only 5 percent. Driver was able to stop before an accident occurred but only because of light traffic and plenty of run off area. Upon inspection of vehicle it was evident that the brake lines had corroded and ruptured under the drivers door. Vehicle was taken to dealership where 6 brake lines were replaces due to corrosion. Vehicle was not driven in northern winters and has not been on any beaches.

Brakes worked perfectly to stop vehicle on a steep downward hill in order to open a gate at the bottom of the hill of my driveway. After the gate was opened the vehicle proceeded down the hill coasting and there was a total brake failure when trying to slow down. The pedal went to the floor with no brakes whatsoever. The vehicle crashed into a tree to avoid going over a cliff. The vehicle has been well maintained with no warning of brake failure. Front and rear breaks failed at the same time. No warning brake light indicator on dash ever went on. This occurred on my property and driver and a passenger were both injured. Body shop indicated that the brake lines rusted out. This could have been a fatality if the failure took place on the road.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. While driving at 45 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop. In addition, the contact stated that the check brake system was displayed across the message board. Upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the brake lines were corroded and fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.

Brakes failed without warning and vehicle would not stop. Pulling into car wash and when brakes were applied the pedal went to the floor and the truck went out the other side of the car wash. Could have been very dangerous as i pull an equipment trailer with 7000 pounds on it and it would have been impossible to stop. I will never own a gm product again. This is unacceptable.

Coming up driveway in 2004 gmc sierra pickup truck and went to apply the brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor - no brakes.had to push emergency brake to stop truck.after getting out of the truck, saw fluid leaking out beneath truck under driver's side door.looked under vehicle and found brake lines had rusted completely through and brake fluid was draining out.

The brakes on my truck failed due to the brake line corrosion. I pushed on my brakes while backing out of my driveway lost all braking power and had my brake . Luckily i was in my driveway when this happened. All of the brake fluid leaked onto the ground, i had my vehicle towed to the dealership and had the brake lines replaced. Upon speaking with the service advisor he said that this was common and that the new brake lines were coated and will not rust. None the less the repair cost and towing cost was quite expensive.

I was parking our 2004 gmc sierra pick up truck when my foot went right to the floor. After getting out of the truck, i noticed all the brake fluid draining out of the brake line on to the ground. When our mechanic looked at it, he said all the brake lines were rusted out and that the whole undercarriage of the truck was entirely rusted out. What a disgrace.

Brakes went out as i was pulling into my driveway, brake line corrosion

I own a 2004 gmc sierra 1500 z71 with 32,000 on the odometer. On the morning of 27aug2008 the abs motor located on the framerail under the driver's seat turned on immediately upon turning the ignition to on. The abs light came on the dash. I had to continue and drive to work. The light stayed on the whole time. Once i arrived at work i removed the fuse for the motor. Now i have no abs and the lights are on all the time. This is the second time this has happened on this vehicle. The first time was only a few days after it was purchased. It was replaced under warranty. The warranty has expired and it will cost approx. $900 to repair. After some investigation online, i have found scores of people that have had the same problem. There is currently no recall in effect according to this website. I feel that this is unacceptable. This is a very clear safety issue. Not only does it render the vehicle without anti-lock brakes, it drains the battery if the fuse is not pulled soon after the problem emerges. This could leave someone stranded in a variety of conditions if they were unable to pull the fuse or not a full understanding of vehicle electric components. I am even more disgusted that this has happened twice on a vehicle that only has 32,000 miles on the odometer and cost almost $40,000. General motors should be forced to replace the defective components and/or upgrade to a higher quality unit free of charge to the victim.

2004 gmc sierra ext cab with 40k miles has seriously degraded braking power.upon sudden stops the vehicle wasn't to keep rolling taking far to long to stop.the pedal goes almost to the floor and yet the truck is still moving.the abs system does not indicate it is working but the wheel s do not lock up to a skid, in fact, i can't get the truck to skid or invoke the abs system no matter what i do.i called the dealer who said no recalls were out for this problem but this is definitely not right.dealer says it's normal but i can bring it in for an inspection ( $100) but any repairs are not covered by gm, he acted like he never heard of this before?i have heard of several other gmc truck owners that said they had similar issues only to be charged $800 or more with little improvement.i cannot keep this truck like this, i am afraid i will roll into the back of someone and i cannot tow my trailer ( small bike trailer) for fear of the same.when will gm wake up?

I own a 2004 gmc k1500 with about 70000 miles on it now. On 10/17/11 at 67410 miles i was doing a normaloil change with the vehicle elevated on a rack. I noticed fluid dripping on me from under the drivers floor area.upon closer inspection i found almost all of the brake lines leading from the front of the truck to the abs unitrusted badly and leaking. As i was moving the vehicle from the rack the brake pedal went to the floor. With very careful operation and using the parking brake i was able to get the truck back on level ground. I replaced all the lines leading from the abs unit to the front of the truck rerouting them along the frame. If this failure had occurred on the highway or while pulling my trailer a serious accident may have resulted. This problem is a manufacturing/engineering defect in many of these vehicles. You should not lose all of yourbrakes when a line ruptures. The dual master cylinder should allow you to have brakes on the opposite side, gm should recall these vehicles and replace the brake lines with stainless or another engineering fix.

Gmc & chev k1500 series pickup trucks 4x4 front wheel bearings abs brake censor uniti had 2 sets of these go bad on qa pickup with less than 35000 miles on it these wheel bearings are not bad they just become a little lose but are still in factory spec. There is a abs sensor in between them and the unit will malfunction in this conditionwhich will not let you stop when on dry roads i ran through 2 stop signs trying to stop with 2 feet on the brake pedalthis condition is not just with my truck i have over 12 friends that have the same truck 2002 thur 2006 and we have all had this happen to us if you want names and #'s i can get themtw*

2004 gmc 1500 developed problems with the brake equipment.*mrthe consumer went to four different dealers who all admitted there was a problem with the brakes.

Dt*: the contact stated while applying sudden brake pressure at various speeds, there was an increased stopping distance.this was intermittent in nature.the vehicle was inspected numerous times by the dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem.the manufacturer was alerted.

I got into my 2004 gmc sierra 1500 pickup truck and went to stop.the petal went to the floor.i discovered the brake lines were rusted and created a leak causing loss of the brakes.the vehicle has no rust in any other areas.it is obvious the brake lines were corroded well before the normal life of vehicle brakes.i was able to stop the vehicle before an accident was caused due primarily to my experience as a long time police officer.this type of brake failure could cause accidents and fatalities.

While driving consumer applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor. Vehiclehit a meridian strip pole. Consumer was unable to maintain control of the vehicle, skidded into a guard rail, and vehicle flipped over twice. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. Passenger and driver sustained neck and back injuries, and were transported by ambulance to a hospital.vehicle was towed, and totaledby the insurance company.

All of the brake lines below drivers side door became extremely rusted, thus busting and releasing all the brake fluid at once, leaveingthe vehicle inoperative.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph and depressing the brakes, there was an abnormal increase in stopping distance and time.the vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure was approximately 15 and the current mileages were approximately 61,000.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while approaching a traffic stop, he attempted to engage the brakes but the pedal was depressed into the floorboard abnormally. In addition, the contact applied the emergency brake to no avail.the contact stated that in order to stop the vehicle, he had to drive the vehicle alongside the sidewalk.after inspecting the vehicle, he discovered that the brake lines were completely corroded. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 80,000.

2004 gmc 1500 4x4 85,000 mi., brakes feelsoft and have excessive travel during emergency stopping or when towing. Have replaced front pads with more aggressive pads and no help, have tried bleeding several times to no avail. Personally think the problem lies in the lines from the master cyl. To abs box as these are flex style lines not hard lines, i have been in the automotive repair business for 40 years and have not had a problem such as this that i could not locate a problem, all components appear to be working properly, ie: booster, master cyl, abs controller, and calipers. I personally know of several other vehicles from these years with the same problems and gm has not fixed the problems.

Severe brake line corrosion in my 2004 gmc sierra 1500 pickup.complete failure of brake system. All brake lines severely bubbled and corroded.estimate to repair is $2000.nhtsa should extend investigation of 1999-2003 model year gmc trucks to 2004 and later model years.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500.while the vehicle was idling with the brake pedal depressed, the pedal extended to the floor without excess pressure being applied.the failure only occurs at low speeds, such as 15 mph.he has not taken the vehicle to the dealer.the failure mileage was 100 and current mileage was 28,000.

2004 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 extended cab / 37,828 miles / driven in pennsylvania - abs activates at low speed (approximately 5 - 10 mph) when attempting to stop on dry pavement.when abs activates, the truck will not stop as expected and have not been able to keep truck from entering intersections.problem is intermittent but is increasing in regularity.mechanics have stated this is a common problem with gm trucks and the hub with speed sensor will need replaced or repaired.issue is determining which hub and sensor is malfunctioning.a recall for the same problem was issued for 1999 - 2002 models under nhtsa campaign id# 05v379000.

I have a 2004 gmc sierra 1500 z71 pick up and the abs and check brake lights keep coming on and off. After taken in to shop (dealer) they could not find any fault codes finally late 2008 i had it looked at by a local shop and they believe it is a bad card . Some times it wont go off for months and other times it is none stop.

I was traveling at 35 mph on a city street and had to stop quickly.i applied the brakes and received no response as they went to the floor.the anti-lock system finally started to respond right before impact with the back corner of a van.this resulted in extensive damage to my pick-up and the van.i'm still waiting on the insurance company to fix my truck.

Anti-lock brake engage below 5mph on dry roads.increases stopping distance dramatically.truck has less than 6,000 miles.has been occurring for the last 6 months.

On or about 12/01/06, while pulling my truck ahead, the brakes failed, causing me to roll into a parked vehicle.on 3 other occasions, my truck has rolled through intersections due to abs failure.i contacted my dealership about the problems i was having and they referred me to gm.when i contacted gm, they alluded to the fact that they were aware of the defect but then indicated that the brakes work as designed. I was then advised that nothing could be done with regards to the brake system but was given some free oil changes for my troubles.when i did finally receive the 12,000 mile oil change coverage, due to delays in their processing, the coverage was actually for only 7900 miles.when gm was contacted, they refused to correct this error.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the brakes were applied and failed.when the brake pedal was pressed, it was spongy and went to the floor.the vehicle was stopped without incident. The rear stainless steel brake line had split.the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer for inspection and the manufacturer has not been alerted.

My 2004 gmc sierra 1500 makes a load clunking noise when the steering wheel is turned, i had this vehicle in for repair while it was under warranty and it kept returning.

Knocking in the steering shaft assembly began at 20,000 miles.steering shaft has to be greased by service center every 10k miles to prevent knocking.speedometer, odometer, and engine temperature gauges stopped working.speedometer used to register max mph when doing 70mph then stopped working at all.

Me and my two boys where headed home and i was taking a curve at 50mph a went to slow down to 45 when i started to take the curve i heard some kind of metal bone breaking sound and my truck jerked to the oncoming lane and a jerked it back but after that everything went loose and me and my boys went sideways of of the bank of the curve and we rolled 3 times before we stopped tank up. My air bag didn't go off neither the passenger's airbag. I heard a hissing noise i got my boys out as fast as i could with some help of bystanders breaking the passenger side window so we could crawl out. They carried my boys and helped me hop to the other side of the road. Me and my boys went to the hospital.

Updated 12/12/07.

Whine and clunking sounds in the drivers side when steering, particularly in a left turn.one mechanic said it was grease problem.no word from gmc.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the vehicle exhibited an abnormal rattling from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the upper steering column would need to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer lubricated the steering column but the part was not replaced and the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the part had been replaced and they could not offer any further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

Noticed i started to get a vibration in the steering wheel, took it to the dealer and they installed an tbs lube kit in the steering shaft. About a year later the vibration is back and worse than before, called the dealer and they told me it would cost me 300.00 plus labor. This is a known problem with certain year gm trucks, and every day it seems to get worse. I feel my safety might be compromised, if i continue to drive it.

My husband was driving our 2004 gmc sierra pickup on highway 101 in the central coast of california.while driving at 65 mph a bolt fell out of the steering column leaving him with absolutely no steering.he crashed into a guardrail which stopped the vehicle.the steering wheel spins around like a roulette wheel and clearly is not attached to any part of the steering column. The responding tow truck driver claimed he has never seen a steering wheel like this - not even on a vehicle that has been wrecked.

I need my truck as soon as possible, so i will probably get stuck paying again! thank you

Power steering faded at high speed. This wascaused by the steering rotation sensor. Consumer had to put pressure on the steering wheel.when the power steering kicked back invehicle veered off the highway from too much pressure on the steering wheel.a normal steering rotation senor will fade out power steering at high speeds so you have better feel of the road. As speed decreases the steering should once again become easy when speed decreases. Problem is intermittent, the steering would be hard at low speeds and while you are applying a lot of pressure to make a turn the power steering would suddenly come back on causing the consumerto pull the truck off the road or over the yellow line.consumer talked to several people who have the same problem with this model truck.

2004 gmc sierra with worn steering shaft. Consumer states that it should be taken care of by gmc because the vehicle is only 3 years old and only has 50,000 miles on it.

My 2004 gmc pickup truck has a knocking noise and clunk in the steering column.it started around 30k miles and has gotten steadily worse over the course of ownership.i did some searching on the internet and it seems gm has know about this problem on numerous models over the course of about 6 years. 00-02-35-003m jan 07 models: 2002-2006 cadillac escalade models 1999-2007 chevrolet silverado models (classic) 2000-2006 chevrolet suburban, tahoe models 2002-2006 chevrolet avalanche 1999-2007 gmc sierra models (classic) 2000-2006 gmc yukon, yukon xl models 2003-2006 hummer h2 conditionsome customers may comment on a clunk-type noise coming from under the hood that also can be felt in the steering wheel. Replace the steering column upper intermediate shaft with an improved design shaft that will eliminate the clunk noise using the procedure listed below.gm knows about the problem and it should be a recall item.gm used the same parts on my truck that were being replaced under warranty when my truck sold.they should have upgraded the parts on the new truck because they knew they were failing. Gm knew the joints were failing and kept using a failing part for 4 years on new trucks and expect the owners to pay for bad parts.

2004 sierra 1500 with 31,000 miles it developed a knock noise evertime i drove over a mild bump. Took it to the dealer and was told it was the steering shaft. They replaced it at no charge and took about and hour.very good customer service with this dealer.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc sierra 1500.while driving 40 mph, the contact heard a clunking noise coming from the steering column.the dealer stated that the wrong lubricating grease was applied to the steering column.they replaced the grease, but the failure recurred two years later.as of october 17, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 43,000.

I have a 2004 z71 sierra truck with a 5.3 engine that has a speedometer problem. It reads 120mph all of the time and they have quoted me around $550 to fix. I also have a clunk in the steering wheel when turning. I have had this problem fixed once by warranty but it has returned again.

I purchased bridgestone dueler alenza hl tires at 42509 on 06/10/2009 and on 04/10/2011 i had a slow leak and went to bridgestonedealer for repair but noticed cracking in tread. I was told this was normal!in may 2013 my mechanic said this cracking was dry rot and i verified with other tire dealer truck had 70693 mile. This is a 65000 mile tire and i only had14000 miles before cracking started- this is a safety hazard.i did not go back to bridgestone dealer because i was given inaccurate info and i bought michelin instead. I called bridgestone and they told me there was nothing they could do and "have a nice day."!!!!good luck if you buy these!

The speedometer onthe 2004 gmc sierra is irratic. It will read a speed but it willnot be moving. You cannot tell how fast you are going, which makes it unsafe.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 75 mph on the interstate, the speedometer gauge began to decrease and increase without warning producing erroneous readings contrary to the actual miles per hour being driven.although the problem persisted, the dealer and manufacturer were not alerted.updated 11/0/906.

The speedometer has stopped working correctly, after doing a little bit of research this is a very common problem with many cheverolet full size vehicles. This was very obviously a manufacturing defect. For example when sitting at a stop sign thespeedometer was reading 35-40 mph, and was either stuck or read completly incorrect.

Inconsistent idle, check engine light, reduced engine power, idle sticks. Dealer ran diagnostic said was accelerator pedal pressure sensor. I purchased replacement part & had replaced. The problem continued & i had dealer run another diagnostic resulting in the same issue. Old part or no longer available.*cw

Speedometer does not work on 2004 gmc 1500.

2004 gmc sierra 1500 speedometer failed after warrantywas over. Speedometer sticks and reads anywhere from 60 to 120 mph when standing still. Many complaints in forums, but no recall from gmc. Unsafe to drive without knowing true speed. Gmc wants big bucks to fix, should be recalled.

While driving 20 mph vehicle stalled .consumerapplied the accelerator pedal and the vehicle failed to accelerate. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic couldnot duplicate the problem.brake pedal was rusted.bumper was rusting.*tc

Cruise control does not work properly, when descending down a hill, the truck picks up speed, there is no hold back,it just like it free wheels.

Cruise control does not hold back in downhill decent,it just free wheels, set at 45 mph,it will go to 60 or faster until you put on the brakes.

Bought truck 15 days ago. Had a nail in my tire so i put on the spare tire which was rusty and probably never looked at for 11 years but had to put this on to avoid being stranded. This vehicle was just inspected and was wondering if the spare tire is included in the inspection process. Due to rusty tire condition the lugs loosened and tire fell off while driving on the high way after i changed it. I was told bye the mechanics that the lugs loosened due to a rusty faulty spare. Does this fall under any laws due to just purchasing this vehicle and it going through the dealers inspection sticker. This cussed a serious accident and want to know if they should be held accountable or if i am liable for this.
