The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. While driving on a country road that was rocky and bumpy, the contact lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the contact drove into a ditch and crashed into a tree. The driver's side frontal air bag partially deployed, but failed to prevent the contact's head from making contact with the steering wheel. The contact sustained head injuries that required medical treatment. Apolice report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if they could investigate. The vehicle remained parked at the contact's residence. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000.

My friend that i work with was driving to work this morning and his airbags accidentally deployed without warning and he would like to hear an explanation.

Malfunction in digital trip odometer in instrument panel; odometer display will not appear. Began as intermittent problem, now will not function at all.

I am experiencing the same problem as below with my instrument panel led lights going out.my truck only has 56,000 miles on it.make : gmcmodel : sierra 1500year : 1999crash : no fire : no number of injuries: 0odi id number : 10262724 date of failure: january 1, 2005component: electrical system.

While driving on a street in my neighborhood, we found that the ignition switch could be moved to the "off" or "accessory"position while driving. Noticed that steering, brakes, and other components became disabled. Luckily we were able to safely move the vehicle to the roadside and assess the situation. A problem like this could result in catastrophic system failure in the vehicle while driving at high speeds, and could cause possible death if we weren't aware of this problem. Please inform other vehicle owners of this possible dangerous issue.

I have called repeatedly and filed reports of electrical and the brakes in the 99 gmc suburban. I have called several times about the smell of electrical burning . No one cared. Wires have melted and shorted out the headlights, tail lights, air conditioner etc. No one has done anything and gmc refuses to do recall.

Excessive rust build up on brake rotors and calipers.rotors & pads previously replaced in mar., 2007 after driving 40,000 miles.needed replacement again in oct., 2009 after only driving 14,000 additional miles.instrument cluster failed and was replaced in june, 2011 at 58,000 miles.dealer advised no recall on this model, although identical instrument clusters for newer vehicles had been recalled and were being replaced at no charge.

Over the past 3 years lighted odometer and drive display flicker on and off. Noticed that display would not work in cold temps. Approximately 6 months ago lost all display. Vehicle has approximately 96000 miles on it.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500.the contact stated that the fuel gauge indicated low fuel even though the tank was filled with gasoline.the mechanic stated that the fuel gauge caused the failure; however, no repair was made.the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 120,000.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. While the vehicle was in neutral, the instrument panel gauges failed and flickered without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Brake check engine oil change indicator will not go off

Found the exhaust manifold bolts on both sides of the engine snapping off for no reason at about 65k miles. When i asked the local dealer about this they stated they would need to remove and reset the engine heads in order to remove the broken bolts. I did not have them repair the problem due to the cost they quoted. I now have three bolts on each side which hold the manifolds in place. The problem seam to happen at the change of the season from fall to winter. In the extreme cold weather, on a cold start up, there is an obvious exhaust leak. As the engine heats up the leak does disappear. This is a safety hazard due to the fact if the engine exhaust blow by is transferred into the cab the driver could become unconscious and death could occur.

My gmc sierrahas the 5.3 v8 engine and three of the exhaust manifold bolts are broken off and it is leaking exhaust fumes .these bolts should not break off so easily.i feel this is a safety issue and a recall should be issued to repair this problem. I know other owners who have the same problem.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500.the contact noticed smoke rising from the front passenger side of the vehicle and the air conditioner shut off without warning.the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the air conditioner lines were rubbing against another set of air conditioner lines, which caused the air conditioner fluid to leak.as of september 7, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the failure and current mileages were 158,000. *updated 12/12/07 the consumer stated the 2 1/2" to 1/2" wide wear marks. The consumer stated 1999-2006 that all wide body trucks within the years previous listed have this defect. Updated 12/12/07

1. When going over minor bumps consumer can hear rear leaf springs hit against each other, metal to metal sound; 2. When accelerating, consumer can hear a valve noise.*ml

Consumer states his truck makes a ticking sound while driving. He states he has taken it to the dealer and mechanic told him that this kind of noise is normal for this kind of truck. Consumer states that his truck did not do this when he first purchased the truck.he also states that his noise is getting worse.mr

Broken exhaust manifold bolts.factory installed exhaust manifold bolts routinely break on both sides of the engine.nature of the failure and location of the broken bolts in the heads of the engine most often necessitate very expensive professional repair.

The fuel gauge and low fuel warning system on my 1999 gmc sierra pickup has not worked for many months.i have been told by a service facility i trust, that this is a common problem, is costly to fix and most likely will fail again soon.they thought that this should be a recall issue.

Severe corrosion of the brake lines became apparent during a sudden application of the brakes which caused multiple brake lines to rupture and leave the vehicle with no brakes since a line from the master cylinder to the abs unit front left input and the abs to the rear t line blew simultaneously. When removing the damaged brake lines they literally crumbled to pieces due to corrosion. During the repair to the brake lines severe corrosion was noted on the fuel lines also.

I noticed a strong odor of gas coming from under the truck. I only noticed the fuel leaking when the truck was on a downhill grade. I climbed under the truck to see where it was coming from. It turns out that the fuel leak is coming from the return line on the frame under where the fuel filter is attached. That section of the fuel line is totally corroded and fuel is slowly dripping from it. I am taking it to my mechanic tomorrow for repair. The brake line right above the fuel line is also severely corroded. Gm really needs to recall and fix these issues due to these corroded fuel and brake lines. I will never buy another gm product again.

The first time i bought the vehicle it overflowed fuel when i filled the fuel tank to it's capacity. I assumed a vent line was loose, but knew it would be a big job to drop the fuel tank and check, so i just limited the amount of fuel i would fill the tank with. On jan 5, 2007, the fuel pump quit working and after dropping the tank no vent line was found to be loose. Upon further investigation, i determined the fuel pump mounting flange on the tank was about half connected, thus where the fuel would leak from when the tank was filled to capacity. It appeared the mounting flange is fused on and there was not an adequate bon made. It was on about 1/32" wide for 180 degrees and only about 1/16" wide the other 180 degrees. I have since repaired the tank using a product called jb weld and also installing (4) #10 machines screws with washers and locking nuts holding the flange to the tank.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. The contact statedthat while driving 35 mph, he heard an abnormal noise in the drive shaft. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where the contact was informed that the fuel tank straps were fractured. Both straps were replaced. The dealer and manufacturer were notified but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileage was 101,000. Updated 1/17/13 the consumer stated the rear fuel strap had brokenand was rubbing against the drive shaft. The front strap was rusted, but not broken. Both were replaced at his expense. Updated 01/24/13

Brakes completely failed, footpedal went down floor. While driving in residential area.. Brake fluid found leaking.had towed truck ,brake lines rusted thru and had 4 complete lines replaced for the second time ..i have owned truck since 1999. Last brake line replaced in 2015. The other item was fuel pump failed on the way to work and truck would not start.had to have vehicle towed at midnight and fuel pump replaced.

I am the original owner of a 1999 gmc sierra that just had brake line failure on 7/14/16 on the interstate that caused an acccident. I had complete loss of brakes, pedal to the floor. I used low gear and park brake to minimize damage but still made contact. It is currently at patriot buick gmc in williamsburg va for repair where i bought it new.i feel me having to pay $1000+ for the brake line repair and now a court date and insurance issues that are not my fault. We need to discuss gmc making some restitution as there is no rust anywhere else and this truck has only been in va. I have other gm cars from the 60's, 70s and 2000s that have no rust issue. Fuel line was leaking as well and some needed replacment.gm service request 8-2250924255 i also had the ps rear brake rotor shield come off and scrape moving parts last year. Turned itnto dealership as a problem. This truck was tsb'd years ago for line inspection

Parking brake did not hold allowing vehicle to roll away and strike parking barrier.repairs were made totaling $434.37 parts replaced were, rusting parking brake backing plates, parking brake shoes and related hardware.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. While stopping the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal clunking noise. The parking brake was engaged, but it failed to respond and caused the vehicle to move. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 204,206.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal was depressed into the floorboard abnormally. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake lines were leaking. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that there were no recalls for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

Frame rotted, suspension rotted, front suspension lock totally rotted.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the passenger side seat belt shoulder harness failed to retract. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the shoulder harness failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 158,000.

My driver side seat belt the locking mechanism has failed to lock on to the retractable latch leaving me an illegal driver on the road.i need your help for repairs as i am disabled, please advise me what and or where to go.thank you [xxx] .information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra extended cab.he received a recall notice from the manufacturer to repair and replace the driver and passenger side seat belt.the recall repair was completed 06/21/06 and stated that the seat belts worked for two months.on 08/2006 the driver side seat belt failed.the contact is unable to lock the seat belt due to it being lodged into the seat cushion.two months after the seat belt stopped operating normally.while driving the vehicle the seat cushion separated, dropped to the floor and both arm rest on the passenger and driver side fell off of the seat.the dealer stated that he was responsible for replacing the seat belt.the cost of the seat belt was $75.00 and the seat cushion was $500.00.the contact filed a complaint with gmc?s consumer assistance center and was given case# 71-494868469.the failure mileage was 15000 and the current mileage was 169000.

1999 gmc sierra extended cab problem: for the second time the cheap piece of plastic locking mechanism for the drivers side seat failed, or rather broke in half again.not only will i have to pay for it to be serviced again, the stupid, sick piece of engineering designed is a huge safety hazard.this is why people don't buy american anymore.it must be recalled or people will die.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500.the contact stated that the driver's seat is loose.when he depresses the brake pedal, the seat moves forward.when he depresses the accelerator pedal, the seat moves backwards.he first noticed the failure approximately one year ago and the failure has since worsened.the dealer stated that the contact would have to pay for the repair because there is no recall for the failure.the engine size was unknown.the current mileage is 93,000 and failure mileage was 80,000.

1999 gmc sierra about 55,000miles: manual seat drivers side: the device that prevents the seat from sliding back and forth freely on its tracks has failed. Now the seat is all the way back except under braking, when it abruptly slides all the way to the steering wheel. No matter how alert you try to be, eventually some maneuver will be needed without time to brace yourself, your foot will mash the brake uncontrollably to the floor as the seat rushes forward, your arms won't be able to steer as your body rushes forward into the steering wheel. A handful of broken nylon pieces and zinc casting pieces and a spring were recovered from the starboard track. Dealer doesn't have a replacement for just the broken stuff, the track assembly is insanely expensive ($500 for both sides) not counting labor. No junkyard i can find has the part, this model seat was only made in 1999.i found about a dozen complaints online about this when i did a google search.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the locking mechanism on the driver side seat fractured and as a result, the seat would slide back and forth abnormally. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 107,000.

I am experiencing the same problem as was reported below by others.the drivers seat slides forward and backward nearly 2 inches while driving.the truck only has 56,000 miles on it.make : gmcmodel : sierra 1500year : 1999crash : no fire : no number of injuries: 0odi id number : 10191166 date of failure: may 18, 2006component: seats.

After letting my son exit on the drivers side, tried to return seat to normal position and could not. After struggling with it, a plastic part in the seat track broke and then seat would not stay in place at all. Carefully drove to nearest gm dealership and was told part was not in stock, would take up to a week and was very expensive. I was on vacation, so could not wait, tried salvage yards, no luck. Had upholstery shop drive large screw into track to lock it in place and have not been able to locate a part.

The consumer began to notice that the driver's seat was not stable when sitting in it.upon closer inspection the consumer found that the rivets holding the seat to the track were broken off.the frames of the seat broke as well when the rivets broke off.*la

The seat latches that hold the seats in place which are made of plastic break and the seat slides back and forth (all the way back and all the way forward toward the steering wheel). The latches on my 1999 gmc sierra pick up truck broke in 2000 when the truck only had about 3700 miles on it. Gmc corp. Has denied the problem and refuses to talk to me about fixing the problem. It is a really bad safety hazard since they could break at any time and would slam you forward if you step on the brakes and backward when you accelerate. I ask the dealer about fixing it but they refused, saying it would cost $600.00 or more just buy the frame for the seat. So it has been tied with bailing wire ever since to hold it in place. Is there a recall?

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the latch that held the driver seat in place failed. The contact stated that the seat would slide forward and back. The vehicle was not diagnosed or replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,316.

Brake pedal went to floor due to premature brake line failure. Was able to down shift and curb the vehicle to stop in time.

I started my truck to pull out of my driveway monday 7-1-2013 brake pedal hit the floor..checking the system i found fluid leak under rear of truck. Line rust color, leak, air coming from line. Called mechanic. Will have results next week. Truck has to be towed..if i had been driving i would have been in a crash...this situation needs serious attention......i am blessed. Will update from mechanic next week.

When coming to a stoplight, i apply the brakes and the pedal goes down more than it should, but i get stopped.while holding the brake and waiting for the light to change the brake pedal goes slowly to the floor.next, i pull into a parking lot and get stopped. I put the truck in park an look under the hood at the brake master cylinder, no fluid leaks, then i c look at each wheel, no fluid leaks. I get turned around and head home because i know something is wrong.driving home the brake pedal is soft.i'm soon home and i park the truck but with the motor still running, i slowly depress the brake pedal, it goes slowly to the floor, next time i depress the brake pedal it goes to the floor in a split second.i get out and inspect under the truck.i see brake fluid leaking from the lines running down the frame right under the drivers door.

I was backing out of my driveway when my brakes went to the floor, always noticed how rusty the truck is underneath, and the outside looks like new. What had happen is a whole in my brake line .i done some research and noticed about 6 million other people have had the same issue..definitely think gm should pay for new brake lines, why would they build a vehicle that's not safe for at least 15 years..don't think i'll ever own another gm product.

I was in a driveway and attempted to stop to turn onto the main road, when i pressed the brakes they went to the floor.i used the park brake to stop and returned home.i found the leak, it is on the brake line where a group of four lines run along the frame under the drivers seat.

While operating the vehicle at approximately 45 mph, i was approaching an intersection when i applied the brakes to slow the vehicle. One of the rear brake lines bursted causing me to have to abruptly pump the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. Very dangerous situation as a marked sheriff's vehicle with its emergency lights and siren activated was traveling at a high rate of speed on the intersecting highway that i was approaching. This is a known and prevalent problem that exists with gm trucks and gm is well aware of the issue but denies faulty parts.

I have 1999 gmc truck frame rusted out. Only has 90,000 mile's i belive gmc should have to recall them.why did toyota have to recall and gmc is getting away with this.something should be done now. Jay

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when the pedal was depressed. The vehicle came to a stop and the contact noticed fluid leaking underneath the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to quality chevrolet (1292 route 9 south old bridge, nj, 08857; 732-316-2600) where it was diagnosed that the brake line exploded and areas of the braking system were rusted, which caused the braking system to fail. The vehicle's braking system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 216,000.

As i was approaching a stoplight, my brake pedal went to the floor. I limped it around the corner and found a hole in a hard brake line. I had it repaired by a certified mechanic. Now a second rupture has occurred. This seems to be a result of corrosion.

I am the original owner of a 1999 gmc sierra that just had brake line failure on 7/14/16 on the interstate that caused an acccident. I had complete loss of brakes, pedal to the floor. Turned itnto dealership as a problem. This truck was tsb'd years ago for line inspection

During normal straight stop from 50 mph on rural county road, intersection with 70 mph crossing 4-lane divided state highway, pedal went to floor and braking ability was minimal. Emergency brake needed to complete the stop before entering crossing high-speed traffic. Upon inspection, discovered brake line ruptured due to rust with massive instantaneous fluid loss.

7 o' clock in the morning heading to work making a left turn into parking lot apply the brakes, pedal want to the floor, avoid hittingthe car in front of me, jumping the curb came to a stop, checked underneath, oil leaking. Call for a tow truck. . mechanic checked the brakes lines all need to be replace.

Stopped in my driveway to get newspaper and mail. I got back into the truck and applied the brake to shift into drive. The brake pedal went to the floor. I coasted up the driveway and was able to stop. When i got out of the truck there was a trail of brake fluid. The leak was coming from under the driver's seat area, where the brake line attached to the abs pump. My mechanic had to replace all of the brake lines.

I was coming upon a red light behind other traffic.i stepped down on the brakes to stop, and the peddle felt spongy. I tried pumping them, then nothing. I avoided hitting the truck in front of me by swerving across into the other lane and pulling into a parking lot, were i was able to bring the vehicle to a stop.the brake warning light never came on, and i don't understand while it was a total brake failure, i thought that's why there is a dual reservoir, and there was still plenty of fluid in both.upon inspection, i saw the brake lines were all severely corroded, and the one going to the rear brakes was split.i know i live in michigan, and the truck is rusty(thanks again gm) but i have cars over 40 years old with original lines on them with absolutely no corrosion on them.this is a substandard part, that needs to be recalled before more people are injured or killed.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500.while driving at an unknown speed, the brakes failed as the brake warning indicator illuminated.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who stated that the brake lines failed and were rusted.the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified.the failure mileage was 60,000. Updated 09/15/14*ljthe consumer stated that 2 damaged lineswith union were repaired. All lines needed to be repaired. Updated 1/15/2014

Brake line failer do to poor routing from factory and substandard material used on oem lines (bare steel) . Always replace oem lines with powder coated aftermarket or stainless "only"inspect "all lines & hardware & clips to frame ect for corrosion". Brake failer occured while towing another auto with trailer attached no warning.

Brake lines leaking from corrosion leading to no braking

Excessive rust build up on brake rotors and calipers.rotors & pads previously replaced in mar., 2007 after driving 40,000 miles.needed replacement again in oct., 2009 after only driving 14,000 additional miles.instrument cluster failed and was replaced in june, 2011 at 58,000 miles.dealer advised no recall on this model, although identical instrument clusters for newer vehicles had been recalled and were being replaced at no charge.

Brake lines rusted , abs failure ,gas lines rusted, trans cooling lines rusted. These were all failures that needed replacement through the years i have owned it. Now frame rusted and cracked . Truck basically shot .

While starting to drive away, applied brakes and could not stop. No warningable to stop vehicle and have towed to repair to a local gm dealerrepair facility repaired section of rusted out brake line. Second incident occurred on august 2010 traveling approximately 35 mph.applying brakes for a turnno brakes no warning, was able to avoid rear end collision by going straight and using emergency brake.vehicle was towed to local repair center and had to replace 3 ft of brake line and again was a rusted outsection of break linei am sending information because of the reports that this has been a ongoing problem for gm trucks.

I was driving home from work on 421 in eminence, ky. I pushed the brake pedal & i had no brakes right in front of harry hill park. Gm & i are very lucky that no one was killed yesterday. The brake line corroded & leaked the brake fluid, so when i pushed the pedal, it went right to the floor. The vehicle is pretty clean & after checking many blogs & youtube videos this is a very common problem on gm trucks. I checked the recalls on this truck & the tailgate cable is recalled for breaking under load due to corrosion; this could injure somebody, but not as vital compared to the braking system as someone could die in a horrible incident. I would greatly appreciate your attention to this serious matter.thank you

Coming to a stop sign i applied the brakes and they completely failed without warning; no lights or indication failure was imminent. The pedal went to the floor with no resistance. Managed to turn onto a dirt shoulder and downshift to stop.inspection revealed rusted through rear brake line. Although the dash brake warning light comes on while starting the truck, it goes off and gives no indication the brake fluid is low. While repairing the brake lines it was noticed the frame of the truck is extremely rusty and flaking. After wire-brushing by hand, the frame is showing cracks on both sides, under the cab, near the rear, right about where a crossmember is attached. This vehicle is no longer safe to drive. I am not impressed with gm's claim that this was a lighter, stronger frame on this truck. We have 2 older trucks with nowhere near this much rust and neither have cracked. The design allows too much crud to accumulate inside the lip of the frame where it is almost impossible to wash out.

Whiledriving on interstate 295 i noticed the brake light come on so i checked the emergency brake to make sure it wasn't pushed in i pulled over atthe next rest stop i looked over truck all seemed ok after restarting light was off then came on while driving again as i got to my exit pedal went to the floor scary as hell but the truck did stop as i stepped all the way down . I proceeded home checked brake fluid none at all i added some and could see after i started and pumped brakes the fluid was spurting out a line onto under carriage i took to my tech he said its a known problem with chevy gmc and would cost close to $1500.00 right now im unemployed and cant afford to have it fixed please help, help, help!

While driving on public 4 lane highway and coming to a yellow light i applied the brake pedal and the pedal instantly went to the floor. I tried to pump the pedal in a panic and still had no effect on stopping the truck. I downshifted in to 1st gear manually to use engine braking and slammed my emergency to the floor. The truck was unable to complete the stop in which in had more than 300 ft to do so and i preceded through what had become a red light. This incident happened very late at night so thankfully there were no other vehicle going through the intersection. I had a friend escort me the mile left to my house via his truck and tow strap and my emergency brake as my only brake not to hit the back of his truck. Now upon visual inspection of all my brake and fuel lines they are completely rusted at multiple spots throughout the frame channel and rear axle area. The burst location happened just at the back or drivers door edge to the front of the l/r wheel.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc k1500 sierra. The contact stated that the while reversing, the brakes failed to engage. The contact later inspected the vehicle and discovered that brake fluid was leaking from the brake lines. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure and current mileage was 97,000.updated 01/14/14*ljthe consumer stated 9 brake lines were replaced. Updated 01/16/14

Put vehicle in gear , no brake pedal ....brake lines were rusted and failed......... Had all 5 lines replaced.........

Suburban is extremely difficult to stop or will not stop at stop signs. Pedal goes to the floor for emergency stops on highway and going down hills. Brake pedal is very soft. Abs system activates at slow speeds and/or may pull vehicle very hard to the left.nhtsa recall issued for this problem only in certain northern states but not in washington state where we have high corrosion from natural ocean air and extreme winter mountain driving with deicers. Though brakes have been repeatedly serviced since new this safety problem persists and is getting worse.

If slowing down to stop, i apply my brakes, if i am going over any bumbs in the road my brakes release make it impossible for me to stop in time, so for no wrecks but if my speed was higher and had to make a stop where there are bumps or ripples in the road, there will be an accident.

Abs motor continues to run after the engine has been turned off. Driver has to pull the fuse to stop abs motor.

Started vehicle. Put in reverse and heard noise .electronic motor power switch to the abs control unit (called the ebcm-electronic brake control module)had failed causing the pump to run all the time even after switch was turned off and engine stopped.unplugged motor to keep from burning it up and causing additional expense.vehicle has been well taken care of and has less than 50,000.gm should have to do a recall and fix and or replace all of these abs control units that have failed.electronic motor switch to small and overloaded by pump motor. Abs will not work creating a safety hazard when braking. With all the emphasis on vehicle safety issues i thing this is a real issue and should be resolved immediately.

1999 gmc sierra 1500 5.3 - i had brake lines fail on 3 separate occasions. First was a hard line to the front drivers side, happened in my driveway so no crash. Second was a line coming from the master cylinder. This was while towing a trailer and the trailer brakes managed to get us stopped even though we were on a hill. The third failure was stopping at a light, luckily no one was in front of me and i had plenty of stopping distance. After that i replaced all of the remaining lines on the truck. No problems since.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. While driving approximately 45 mph the contact applied the brakes and the left front and right rear wheel exploded. He stated that the brake pedal extended to the floor. He carefully drove the vehicle to his residence. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic where it was purchased. The mechanic replaced the both brake lines to the master cylinder and the abs unit. The failure mileage was 79,686 and the current mileage was 80,058.updated 08/27/10.*ljupdated 08/30/10

While i driving my 1999 gmc sierra 1500 pickup, the brake acted very soft when i was coming to a stop on the roadway. I thought at first that i was low on brake fluid. But was able to drive the truck to my mechanic and he checked it out and found the brake lines had corrosion and a small hole opened up throw brake fluid all under the undercarriage in the rear drivers side of the truck. He told me that this isn't the only truck he has seen this problem. I feel that something needs to addressed soon, before people get hurt or killed because of the loss of there brakes. I was just lucky that i was driving down a hill and the normalspeed limit. I think this problem has been occurring and needs to be addressed to gmc to do a recall on all there 1999 gmc trucks.

1999 gmc k1500 truck. Consumer states problems with the brakes *tgwthe consumer stated he has spent over $2,157.81 inbrake repairs.the brake lines, right rear caliper and rear disc brake rotor had to be replaced.

After putting in new brake pads and brake rotors on my 1999 gmc sierra 1500 pickup truck, i lost pressure to the brake pedal. After checking for recalls and having more then one certified mechanic try to solve the issue i was told the ehcu ( electro-hydraulic control unit) was not working. The companies told me that it was a common item to go bad on all trucks 1999 and newer. There are no recalls on them and they are a dealership item. The cost of a new one is $1,068.00. Being that this item is a common problem and the price being so expensive when the vehicle is 10 yrs old, i feel the price of the units should be either recalled or lower in price.

I was parked in front of my home. I was getting ready to leave for work and i pressed the brake pedal down to start the truck and the brake pedal went to the floor. I had the window down so everytime i pressed the brake pedal i heard the pressure of the brake fluid being pushed out the broken brake line. It cost 350.00 just to get repaired plus a tow. My mechanic said it was caused by the brake line being corroded. It was only one of the four brake lines on my truck but the mechanic said the other ones look pretty bad also and don't have the money to replace all of them.

1999 gmc sierra, two cars infront turning left, went to apply brakes and pedal went to floor, no brakes. Ended up crashing into the car in front of me, which in turn hit the car turning. As i was making sure no one was hurt, i noticed that my truck was leaking brake fluid all over the road.

Brakes failed as i was just leaving the front of my house , tow to garage $65.00 installed all new brake lines from master cylinder to abs pump and from abs pump to each wheels flex line cost of $300.49, hazardous materials$10.00,labor $500.00 .

1999 gmc sierra pickup regular cab 4 wheel disc brakes. Truck would not come to a complete stop at a traffic light, speed less than 5 mph. Pedal vibrated then went almost to the floor. Truck bumped into car in front of it causing minor damage to car, very slight damage to truck. Roads were clear and dry, day was cold but sunny.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500.while driving approximately 5 mph on a gravel road surface, there was no response when the contact depressed the brake pedal.it took excessive force just to stop the vehicle.prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the stopping distance increased.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the failure occurred intermittently.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and the technician stated that the front wheel speed sensor was corroded and caused the failure.the vehicle is in the process of being repaired.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 116,000.

While driving highway speed (70 mph) my grandson pressed on the brake to slow down at an exit and lost all but 1/2 in of brake pedal. No accident but barely stopped before an accident occurred. And he is only 17 yrs old and was badly scared..repair shop changed the rear brake line from the abs module to the rear brake connection due to being rusted through. Cost was $451.00. It was also noted that the other 5 brake lines at the abs module were badly rusted and needed replacement.

Applied brake at a stop light and the pedal went to the floor.the brake line above the drivers side rear wheel is all corroded and blew out.i've gotten a c quote of up to $1,200.the truck will sit until i can afford this repair.

I used my truck monday and tuesday went to back out of my driveway and brake pedal went to the floor, nobody hurt !i found that the brake lines had rusted out. Still waiting for repair and not sure i can afford it.

Brake line blew out corroded. Had to replace 5 brake lines and 2 front caliper do to corrosion. My bill at gm dealer $957.35 for repairs.

Brake failure due to rusted brake line.a panic stop was attempted to avoid a merging vehicle. The brake pedal went to the floor when the line broke. I was able to avoid the vehicle the remaining fluid and slow speed stopped my vehicle.i have had other problems in the past with the brake pedal being soft and able to go to the floor.but it rebounded and stopped the truck.there is also abs quirks as well.vehicle is a 1999 gmc sierra extended cab 3 door 4x4 5.3l 78,000 miles.i found the leak it was inside the frame under the drivers door in a cluster of brake lines attaching to the abs pump.all of the brake lines in the area were seriously rusted and have to be replaced.the lines aprox. 1 foot from the abs pump are in good shape.the brake lines seem to be rusted however the frame, underbody floor and other equipment located in the same area are not showing a rust problem. This rust problem should be checked and inspected regularly.i think a stainless steel or other rust resistant material should used in this location.

The brake lines under the drivers door on the frame are all rusted and have started to leak from excessive corrosion. Just noticed the leak as the truck was parked outside our house.

Brakes failed due to brake line bursting because of corrosion on 1999 gmc truck.

Brake line let go when brakes were applied and fluid started to leak from under the drivers side under door/truck is not operable since / currently waiting to be able to afford to have fixed as was advised that could cost up to 500 hundred dollars as all lines would need to be repaired as they all are corroded to point of more breakage.

Brake line failure due to extreme rust. After accident i checked several other trucks of the same vintage where i worked and all had similar problem.

Upon applying the brakes on to a 1999 gmc sierra the brake line ruptured, spewing brake fluid onto pavement and causing near immediate loss of all stopping ability. The brakes were not applied with excessive pressure and the speed was less than 15 mph. Could there be a defect with the placing of the lines that causes these brake lines to rupture? upon checking with friends and the internet it has become apparent that this is not a rare occurrence with the gmc sierras/silverados. The repair was quoted at $1900 dollars to repair the ruptured brake line as well as other assorted brake parts. This vehicle has always seemed to have some type of problem with the brakes and for some reason it seems to be common knowledge within the automotive repair industry that this specific vehicle will develop problems with its brakes. If i were using any speed with this rupture occurred, i am sure the outcome would have been more serious.

Upon leaving my driveway to the first intersection the brake pedal went all the way to the floorboard. I got the truck home and parked it. I thought the anti-lock part was probably the problem. Expensive as that part is i just let the truck sit. One day i left a piece of cardboard under the truck and isolated the leak to two rusted out lines at the plastic clip on the frame. This area must hold moisture and doesn't dry-out, allowing it to rust.

I was driving about 35mph and i was coming to a red light so i put on the brakes and i heard a pop and my brake pedal went to the floor and i almost went thru the intersection.i got out of my truck and saw that i was leaking brake fluid from the front.i opened the hood and saw my front brake line was leaking around a corroded area on a hard brake line attached the frame rail.it was a hard brake line failure not a rubber line like in the wheel well.i cant believe that a truck that is 12 years old has a brake line rust thru, this is very dangerous.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated when driving at low speeds and decelerating he noticed the anti-lock braking system would engage and it also made a loud grinding noise. The vehicle was not been inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised him that he was not included in nhtsa recall campaign id number05v379000(service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

My truck was parked. I started my truck. I applied the brake to put my truck in gear. The brake pedal went completely down to the floor. I inspected under my truck, and there was a puddle of brake fluid under the driver's side area on the cement. I saw that all the brake lines connected to the abs electro-hydraulic control unit are severely rusted, and one of them was leaking severely. I had my truck towed home. There was no warning light on the dash that was blinking to tell me i that i was having a problem with my brakes. They were working fine prior to this failure. I will document the condition of the brake lines with a picture and brake mechanic witnesses before any repairs. I am in the process of locating a brake repair business.

Brake lines on a 99 gmc completely rusted through causing complete loss of braking ability.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra c1500.while driving approximately 5 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brakes and the vehicle continued to accelerate.she inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake lines were covered with rust, corroded and that there was brake fluid leaking.the dealer had not been notified; however, the manufacturer offered no assistance due to the age of the vehicle.no repairs were performed.the failure mileage was 48,703.updated 05/04/11updated 09/19/11

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, he applied the brakes and the pedal depressed to the floor. The brake light also illuminated on the instrument panel after the failure. The vehicle was safely maneuvered to the shoulder, where the contact noticed that all of the brake lines were corroded and brake fluid was leaking. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 94,320.

In march of 2009, the brake line on my 1999 gmc sierra 1500 broke and the brake pedal went right to the floor. I stopped in a parking lot and checked all over and found that the brake line was rusted under the cab on the driver side. That was where the line broke and brake fluid would leak out. I had it fixed for $650 and on tuesday, september 13, 2010, the brake line broke again right at the rear axle when i was moving the truck in my backyard.

Was driving home and noticed that when the brake was pressed it had to be pressed harder to stop. Once arriving home noticed that brake fluid was leaking from under the driver side rear tire. The brake line is rusted, corroded and has a break in the line. This is absolutely unacceptable.

Was driving to the dump and the brakes failed.. Pedal went all the way to the floor. Almost crashed but was able to stop with emergency brake. Brake fluid was poring out from under drivers seat.

1999.5 gmc sierra 1500 4wd ext cab, shortbed.may 2005front brake line burst while applying brakes due to slowed traffic on 65mph interstate in upstate ny.used shoulder to avoid hitting vehicles in front of me, however rear brakes only on a 6k pound pickup truck, unloaded, do not result in effective braking.i had to downshift my automatic to use engine braking as well as the parking brake (which also is poorly designed and ineffective).truck was towed to gm dealer where front brake lines were replaced as all were rusted/rotted to unsafe levels, with one fracturing causing the loss of pressure and fluid.april 2009upon doing an oil changed, myself, i discover the all of the brake lines, including the front as well as the rear are in very bad shape due to rust.after speaking to my mechanic i have learned that the gm brake like from the late 90s to 2004 were not properly designed to deal with the weather and resist corrosion.he said at least once a week he has to replace sections of gm brake line from these trucks and suvs.i cannot currently afford to replace these yet as its a $1700 job due to the labor involved and the fact that replacing with gm's brake lines will just rust again in 2-3 years.so i need aftermarket lines, probably stainless steel or at least something with a proper amount of nickel in it (which gm has skimped on!) which hopefully i can put on in the next few months before i get killed or someone else killed.april 2010.

On april 15 2010, as i was bringing my vehicle to a stop, the brake pedal traveled all the way to the floor.when i got under the vehicle to examine it i saw the rear right brake line was leaking brake fluid badly due to a break in the metal brake line.again on 2/27/2011, i was stopping my vehicle at a stop sign and the same thing happened at a low speed.only this time it was a front right brake line.luckily in my incidents there were no accidents or injuries or deaths, but this is a serious issue with these vehicles, all the rest of my brake lines are in very poor condition at this time and will also need to be changed so i feel safe driving my truck, especially when my family is with me.i have owned twenty plus vehicle in my time and even some of them where general motors, but i have never seen a vehicle deteriorate the way that this one is.

1999 gmc sierra truck had complete brake failure causing me to hit the car in front of me at a stop light.no indications of brake problems and when attempting to slow for the light, the brake pedal went to the floor.

Brake line running along frame to rear wheels ruptured when shifting from park to drive.shift interlock requires brake depressed to shift from park to drive. Brake lines running from firewall to rear of vehicle along inside of frame rail are corroded and soft so badly as to need replacing.like vehicle in shop for identical issue.when brake line ruptured, there are no brakes on vehicle at all due to a single reservoir vice twin reservoirs on most vehicles to separate front and rear brake systems.brake line possibly made of material unsuitable for long term usage.brakes lines also are place in an area that will collect corrosive material from roadway from vehicle tires.no crash, but $600 required in repairs.if moving when brake line ruptured, there is high probability of severe crash.

Returning home turned onto progress dr. Xenia, oh. Had to make a rapid stop (car pulled out in front of me), brakes felt softer, pulled intosioux dr. Xenia, oh. To pick up wife and head a family members house. Drove up sioux dr. Stopped at the stop and turned onto maumee dr., went to push on brake pedal it went to the floor, drove back home and found brake fluid dripping on the driveway. Found that brake line next to frame of truck was leaking. Later found brake fluid on front driveway where i had stop earlier.

My abs system has failed the motor runs consistently by the pump under the drivers side door, i pulled the wire connection harness to silence it and now i have a constant yellow abs and red brake light on the dash panel.the dealership did the front sensor recall but still have the existing problem.this happened 3 years after i bought it but my warranty was up after 1 1/2 years because of my distance from my employer ate up the warranty.

Consumer states when she shut theengine off,the abs system was still running.

When applying the brakes while coming to an intersection, if one of the rear tires hit a tar strip, chuck hole or bump in the pavement, the truck goes into abs braking, reducing stopping distance, which could caused a crash. The problem has been reported to the dealership. Dealer stated that the system was working normally.

Abs motor started running loadly continuously. Abs light on. Had to have motor disconnected, so don't have abs now.our mechanic said he has seen several 1999-2000 gmc/chevrolet trucks with this problem.we contacted general motors; they said there is no recall, truck out of warranty, it's our problem. We are told it will cost approx. $1300 for repair. We believe it is a manufacturer/safety defect.

Power steering suddenly goes into max assist when making gradual turns causing the steering wheel to jerk out of your hands and almost causing an accident. Vehicle swerved all over the freeway until it could be stopped. Apparently gm is aware of the problem since they make a bypass kit (p/n 19168825) to eliminate the faulty actuator mounted on the power steering pump but they will not issue a recall even though this is an extreme safety hazard. Gm expects you to buy a $70 kit to remedy the problem. This has been an ongoing random intermittent problem with my suburban for the last 8-9 yrs.

I have severe frame rust to the point where the frame has a crack halfway around it near the rear suspension. The factory mounted tow hitch literally broke completely off of the frame due to the amount of rust that was built up around the welds while i was towing my camper, luckily i had just made it home from a trip from camping when this occurred. I can literally peel off 1/8" thick pieces of rust at a time, the truck is no longer operable due to the safety aspect, i have never seen rust like this on any vehicle, even ones that have been around the ocean and salt, after reading many complaints about the same issues with these particular model and year trucks ranging from 1999-current i have decided to file a complaint, maybe if your administration gets enough of these complaints something can be done to correct the issue and hopefully gm will do something to compensate so many of their disappointed customers or better yet fix the issue, this will be the last gm truck i purchase due to their negligence and after reading 100's of complaints of the same issue gm doesn't seem to care they just give the run around just like when i have had problems with my vehicles in the past under warranty.

Frame cross member behind the cab is rusted through. I have owned vehicles in "salt" states and not had the frame rust out. This should not be considered a "wear item". This can lead to a failure whereby the fuel tank falls down leading to a high risk of fire. This was found during a replacement of the brake line (3rd set) assembly and removal of the truck bed.

I purchased this truck a few months ago. Within a week i had a co worker point out the bed was leaning toward the cab.a few weeks later we got under the truck to find out what was going on.we noticed alot of rust. I looked on line to see how to fix it and found alot of people were dealing with the same issue. I decided to get some sheet metal and weld it to the frame.i then asked my boss who owns a welder if he could help me with it.he said there wasn't anything left to weld to.then the truck started not going into park.and to start it you'd have to start it in neutral and it would not stay in park, it would roll and the emergency brake no longer worked. I then had my parents to take the truck to a body shop to see if they could repair it.both body shops said it was not repairable that the frame was rusted out and needed replaced. One shop said that the parking issue could be from the frame bending, but did not know without getting into that. They also told them that the truck was unsafe to be on the road.i financed this truck for $5500 and now i'm paying payments on a truck i can't even use.

Frame rotted, suspension rotted, front suspension lock totally rotted.

Brake lines rusted , abs failure ,gas lines rusted, trans cooling lines rusted. These were all failures that needed replacement through the years i have owned it. Now frame rusted and cracked . Truck basically shot .

Vehicle has cracks on either side.consumer thinks it is between extended cab andshort pick up bed.

The frame is rusted thru and is cracking. This is a major safety issue. Why isn't there a recall on this???

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal grinding sound from the rear end after hitting a pothole. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The rear differential was replaced four times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 186,000.

The contact 1999 gmc sierra 1500. While driving 10 mph the brakes were applied but the vehicle did not stop until repeated pressure and the emergency brake was applied.the vehicle was taken to an authorized gmc dealer and the left front hub assembly was replaced.the failure did not recur.the failure mileage was 59,617 and the current mileage was 127,000.

The contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500.the contact stated that the wheels locked up and the vehicle wobbles severely.the dealer changed the hub and the wheel bearing.the speed and failure mileage were unknown.the current mileage was 210,000.

1. When going over minor bumps consumer can hear rear leaf springs hit against each other, metal to metal sound; 2. When accelerating, consumer can hear a valve noise.*ml

Running highway speed and had a blow out on right rear tire.the tire split from where the tread starts all the way down the sidewall.the other incident in which the right front tire had a blow out, i was slowing down upon coming off of the highway.the tire damage was almost identical to the previous description.the tire split from the tread all the way down to the sidewall.i do not have the first tire that had a blow out; however, the incident that took place on the highway at 70 mph, i do still have the entire set of tires and several pictures of the damaged tire on the rim.i have replaced these tires, but would like to be informed of any reimbursement from the manufacturer that i may be intitled to, due to these incidents and the current status of recall on these tires.( dot number: tire size: p265/75/16 )

I have 1999 gmc truck frame rusted out. Only has 90,000 mile's i belive gmc should have to recall them.why did toyota have to recall and gmc is getting away with this.something should be done now. Jay

Frame and cross members corrosion found when having cab rocker panels replaced and prep-repaint cab. Body shop called ask me to stop by have a look and that they had removed the bed. I was shocked at the cross member tube that rear shock is mounted to is almost corroded completely around over exaust muffler. Shop owner informed me he did not have ability to replace cross member. I am also concerned about the amount of corrosion over all frame-structure. We bought truck new, 50% of its time was parked under car port. New crate motor ($5000 installed) has 25,000 miles. Cab repairs and paint $3000 >. I kept it well maintained. We have 7 gm vehicles, cannot help to wonder how much hidden suprises ahead? i replaced corroded brake lines 2008 brakes went out in driveway stopped with parking brake. This is a serious substandard steel problem. Toyota i understand was recalled on this same issue? the truck still drives and feels like the first ride. Any helpful information welcome. Thanks'

While traveling vehicle idles high. To reduceidle consumer had to put vehicle in neutral. Low idle goes to only 1000 rpm. Vehicle fails to throttle back for four second.
