I purchased a 1995 gmc safari van at c & o motors in charleston west virginia on 05/23/1998 reg #1gddm19w9sb53344.after driving it home we discovered the air bag light was on so we contacted c & o and they said to bring it back.we did they worked on it and the light was off.we drove it a short time and the light came on again.we contacted c & o and they said to bring it back and we did and this time they replaced the airbag.the light was off for a short time and then came on again.we contacted performance motors in parsons and they looked at it and the light went off for a short time.now we are considering selling this van and was told that if the air bag light is on we cannot sell it.we have all the paperwork to show where it has been serviced for this problem, we did a car fax on the van to see if it had been wrecked due to the light not going off and it came back negative.we would like some input as to how we should handle this problem?i checked the recalls and this was not one of the recalls.we have invested several hundred dollars to fix this problem and until now felt it was not a problem until we decided to sell it.

95 gmc safari/95 chevy astroi have owned 3 of these models since 1995 and have experienced the same problem with all 3 of them.the fusible link connection located behind the battery where power goes into the fuse panel has one connection that overheats, melts the plastic module and creates a circuit problem.total loss of power while driving has occurred, totally crippling the vehicles.upon searching salvages for a replacement connector, i found 4 out of 5 had the same overheated, melted plastic, dangerous connection.i have the connector i replaced on 1 of the vehicles and can provide it to the investigation.this situation could potentially lead to a fatal accident.total electrical power means engine quits, lights go out at night, power steering and power brakes are inoperable.this truly needs further investigations to protect the lives of owners/operators of these vehicles.

Was driving to work about 25mph than allof a sudden lostacceleration was able to slowly drive to a parking lot but ended up having towed to mymechanic which i was in formed theengine hadseized but could smell gas and the fuel had collected in theoil which was changed,after further consideration had ittowedto my home.triedstarting it runs anywhere between 10 or 15 seconds , had the starter checkedworking great soabout 2 months i just have it parked looking for solutions.i had it for about 9 years with day to daydriving to work and occasionally on the highway.

I have a 95 gmc safari that was equiped with dexcool coolant.i have replaced all the freezeout plugs, that have been eaten away by the coolant. There areseveral law suits but none of them include safari or astro vans. Are there any lawsuits that include vans.
While driving the vehicle lost all of the following functions: power steering, brakes, engine cooling/water pump, and all other functions operated by the serpentine belt. My initial inspection revealed that the serpentine belt had become dislodged from the pulley system. Further inspection revealed that the alternator bracket failed allowing the belt to become dislodged. Still further inspection by a qualified mechanic revealed that the rear bolt(s) holding the alternators in place were missing allowing enough downward pressure to be exerted on the alternator pulley to break the two front "ears" of the alternator bracketand to throw the belt off the pulleys. The alternator has not been replaced and i am the original owner. This leads me to believe that the rear bolt(s) of the alternator either were not properly tightened at the factory or that they need to be inspected occassionally to ensure they have not loosened and fallen out. I have found nothing in the owners manual suggesting that these bolts be checked as a routine maintenance procedure. My guess is they were not properly tightened in the first place. I was fortunate in that the failure occurred at relatively low speed as the vehicle became nearly impossible to either steer or stop.
The freeze plugs on this vehicle are leaking due to corrosion.it is ocurring on at least 4 of these that i can see.the vehicle was under warranty up to 75,000 miles and did not have any leaks.i feel the freeze plugs were defective from the factory and should be covered under warranty.
My windshield wipers don't come on sometimes and sometimes they do.i know two other people withe the same van and same year with the same problem. The moter had a rod knock when i purchased it, but there was a thick liquid added to the oil so i never heard it unti i had an oil change.after the engine was rebuilt the first time, while driving it, i had another rod knock but this time it was alot louder and caused more damage to the motor.i still sometimes hear a knocking noise, but the dealership keeps telling my that it's something vibrating.

The wipers have an int. Problem. It sounds just like the one in bulletin # 98v150000. I see there that it covers the trucks and not the vans. Also the a\c clutch has some diagonal bands on the front, they broke away from the center and opened up like flail knives and cut every belt, hose, and wire near the clutch until one of the bands broke off and went flying around under the hood causing alot of dammage and a big mess. My a\c has never worked right since. Sorry about the vin i do not have access to the van at this time, if you would need it at a latter time i could get it. I do not wish to give my dealers name because they have treated me well its just that their hands are tied.
Plume of smoke comes out of control panel were the heater switch is. The area around the switch gets real hot. As for the windshield wipers they stay on when i shut them off. Then it takes a few minutes for them to turn off. The air-conditioner sometimesgets cold and other times it bairly gets cold. The sliding door gets stuck.
Air conditioner has had numerous problems since the vehicle was purchased, it has been in 6 different times for not working properly such as air cutting on and off. Now the compressor has gone out completely. The vehicle has been in for service twice for the same problem with the brakes loud roaring sound when applying the brakes.

I had to replace the fuel inejctor system on this vehicle. The mechanic that repaired this informed me that this is a common problem with this general motors engine. The cost was close to $500. The faulty injector caused raw gasoline to flow down into the crankcase thinning out the engine oil. Raw fuel was dripping out of my exhaust pipe. This is a potentially dangerous situation as it could lead to an engine fire and possible personal injury. Gm has know that these injectors were faulty and i feel that there should be a recall on this. I would also like gm to reimburse me for this part thank you.

My daughter was involved in an accident on the evening of 8/24/2000.she was coming to a stop at a red light on wet pavement and reported that the van would not stop.it continued into the intersection.it was struck by a car on the cross street and was pushed into the opposite lane where it was struck by a third car.i have heard reports of similar problems with gmc vehicles equipped with anti-lock brakes.also, other family members have reported intermittent problems with the brakes.gmc issued a recall of some vehiclees last year to correct a problem with their anti-lock brake system.i have contatced gm and was told that this van is not involved in the recall.nevertheless, i am concerned that it exhibiting the same problem.

Coming to a stop on a dry road, the pavement surface changed from dry asphalt to dry,cracked concrete. Anti-lock kicked in when not needed and i almost rear-ended the vehicle in front of me.later that day, in a driving rainstorm, the windshield wiper motor stopped (for about the 50th time) and i was unable to see in front of me.i had to pull over and manually tug the wiper blade to get the wipers to work again.both these are recurring incidents and i have complaints on file with gm, who has a recall on both issues that year "but not on my vehicle".

Upon starting my motor home i applied the brakes and the pedal went clear to the floor with little or no resistance. The engine was running at the time. I tried several times to "pump up" the brakes with no change. The vehicle was towed to a repair station where the initial findings are a master cylinder failure. There is no evidence of an external leak, both brakefluid chambers are full. No repairs have been started as of this date 1/27/02. I called monaco/safari/spartan (chassis) and spoke to a tech service representative who claimed that the problem could be caused by an internal failure of the master cylinder. Not believing that a failure(no external loss of fluid) could cause this condition i called bendix (now bosch) engineering and spoke to mr ralph porter (sp).he indicated that their master cyl. Could not fail in this way unless there was a total breakdown of the internal seals in the cyl. Which was most unlikely.neither company indicated an interest in investigating this event.i have reviewed the fed. Motor vehicle safety std. 105 and have concluded that this event was in violation fo the standard.
Clearance between brake and accelerator pedal is 4 inches, causing problems if someone has 11 to 12 shoe size.consumer indicates shoe becomes wedged between the two pedals, making it difficult and unsafe to drive.consumer presented the situation to the local gm/chevrolet dealer, they stated this is the way the pedal clearance was designed, if consumer wanted to initiate a fix, the warranty would be voided.

This leads me to believe that the rear bolt(s) of the alternator either were not properly tightened at the factory or that they need to be inspected occassionally to ensure they have not loosened and fallen out. I have found nothing in the owners manual suggesting that these bolts be checked as a routine maintenance procedure. My guess is they were not properly tightened in the first place. I was fortunate in that the failure occurred at relatively low speed as the vehicle became nearly impossible to either steer or stop.

As you can see in the form this is the 5th time i have to replace these door supports the first was 3/6/96 @ 16489 miles the nextwas 7/29/96 @ 25123 miles then on 6/13/97 @39588 miles once again on 3/22/99 @ 73465 miles(this time it cost me $98.65 the previous times were under warrenty) and now they went out again. Each time they go out they do so with very little warning and have narrowly missed striking ether my wife or myself in the head with the unsuported door. The repacement parts are only available at the dealer because they have a switch on the shaft of the suports that activate the dome lights and the locking silonoid for the bottom 2 swing doors. There has been at least 55 other complaints of the same occurance reported for the 1995 astro/safari. This seems to be an unusually high number for a somewhat low production vehicle. I would like to see this investigated further, as if a failure occurred at highway sppeds results could be devastating. I would like to see a recall on this as this part was modified, indicating that the old design had a known defect. Also, this part failed with no previous indication of failure. Torsion bars should last the life of the vehicle.

Last month july 31, 03 i drove my van at highway early morning to go work it was fine and during before go to lunch head out to my van and i noticemy left frt suspension went down. I hoist to the lift and notice it my left frt torsion bar was broken. I call my dealer at gmc about the safety problem of my van they said no recall. I love my van and my families ride with it, too. When the tempature leaver used to select hot or cold air flow is parallel with the leaver that controls the vacuum doors for the defrost/heater/vent is alingned with the vent setting, puffs of white smoke come out of the heater fan toggle speed switch area and a order of burning wire or plastic coating is pungent within the driver and front passanger area of the vehicle. When the levers are adjusted to other locations, the burning smell goes away. The fan motor still operates when the toggle switch positions are changed from low medium and high settings.

Windshield wipers do not come on a lot of the time.this is extremely dangerous as we live in rainy pacific northwest and we end up driving up to 1/2 hour in rain before they come on if they come on at all.this is a huge hazard as it could lead to a very serious and devastating injury or loss.i have not contacted a dealer yet but the problem seems to becoming much worse.it started out infrequently and not for a long time before the wipers would come on, but now it is chronic, it is nearly every time.

The wipers have an int. Problem. It sounds just like the one in bulletin # 98v150000. I see there that it covers the trucks and not the vans. Also the a\c clutch has some diagonal bands on the front, they broke away from the center and opened up like flail knives and cut every belt, hose, and wire near the clutch until one of the bands broke off and went flying around under the hood causing alot of dammage and a big mess. My a\c has never worked right since. Sorry about the vin i do not have access to the van at this time, if you would need it at a latter time i could get it. I do not wish to give my dealers name because they have treated me well its just that their hands are tied.

At idle at a stop light, the windshield wipers stalled in the mid position. We turned the engine off and restarted it and the wipers did not restart until about 5 minutes had passed. After about 30 more minutes of driving we stopped for lunch and when we restarted the car again it worked normally. We drove for another 100 miles turned the car off and when we restarted it the wipers didn't start until 30 minutes had passed with the engine on and the wiper knob activated.

The moter had a rod knock when i purchased it, but there was a thick liquid added to the oil so i never heard it unti i had an oil change.after the engine was rebuilt the first time, while driving it, i had another rod knock but this time it was alot louder and caused more damage to the motor.i still sometimes hear a knocking noise, but the dealership keeps telling my that it's something vibrating.

Coming to a stop on a dry road, the pavement surface changed from dry asphalt to dry,cracked concrete.
