Abs light keeps coming on, and has already been replaced once. Dealer cant find cause.driver window would not roll up all the way while driving due to it was misaligned.underhood light bulb broken, dealer replaced bulb. Air bag light illuminates intermittently.
I was in a 2000 gmc jimmy waiting for a wreck to be cleared when a medium size car hit us from behind doing about 55 miles a hour. Totally the jimmy beyond repair. The air bags never came out to protect us from the impact. The jimmy was never in a wreck prior to this so the air bags had never been used. They failed.
On 9-6-00 i hit a concrete lightpole base aprox 3ft high & 2ft across.with my 2000 gmcjimmy i was going aprox 35mph at the time the airbags did not go off . The inpact was dead ctr& stright on .the road was dry .i was wearing my seatbelt an not hurt there was $10,000+ damage to the truck i wold like to know if & why the airbags did not go off thankyou
While traveling, there were trees lining the road, consumer could not see an intersetion or light, consumer then traveled through the intersection and consumer was broadsided by another vehicle, consumer states airbags failed to deploy.
As i was driving along the air bag light came on. I have seen threads of smoke on 3 or 4 occasions coming from the steering column. The air bag light goes out after a minute and comes on again repeatedly.
On january 5, 2004 i tried to stop my 2000 gmc jimmy (suv), instead of stopping, the jimmy picked up speed and resulted in a three car crash.two of the cars (my jimmy and a 1995 mercury) were totaled and the other car (a honda runner suv)had damage totaling $11,000.althought i was driving 35 mph, when my car hit the car in front of it (the roasrunner), neither of the airbags in my jimmy were deplyed.luckily, no one was hurt in this accident.the mechanics at henderson chevy in las vegas informed me that the abs system failed miserably.as for the airbags, they did not have a clue.i contacted gmc and filed a formal complaint.their investigators came to the dealer and authorized some work on the jimmy so as to assess the damage and the reasons for the crash.as of this writing, i have not received any reports from gmc.i have tried, repeatedly, to contact gmc but no one would return my calls.i also demanded that the results of their investigation be sent to me in writing.this request was, also, ignored.

While driving 30-35 mph consumer's vehicle has collided into the rear bumper of another vehicle . Upon impact, neither frontal air bag deployed. No injury was reported.
Consumerwas traveling about 35mph on a side street andvehicle started shaking. Then, vehicle went out of control, and he hit a light pole ,andbounced off the pole.upon impact, airbags didn't go off. Dealershipwas aware ofproblem.
While traveling at 45mph and as a result of an head-on collision, air bags did not deploy at any time. Vehicle experienced two frontal collisions in one accident, the first collision was at 40 mph and the second was at 5 mph, air bags failed to deploy both times, 2 consumers were injured in accident, an inspector state airbags not a manufacturer problem.

I bought a 2000 jimmy from oak motors.i have had it for 5 months.in the last 5 months i have replaced the alternator, 3 pulleys, serpentine belt.the brakes are going out, power steering is going out, engine is tapping.i took it back after having it for 10 days because the service engine light came on.they wanted 175.00 to look at it.i was told at the time of purchase that i had to purchase the warranty for 995.00, i thought this was to cover any problem with the vehicle.it doesn't.they now want 540.00 to fix it.please help.
The entire car is defective, though it does not state it is a lemon.i purchased it used.i have replaced many major parts that are not considered routine maintenance, such a driver's door hinges and bearings, hood release cable, steering arm (twice) hubs (twice) the wiring system is faulty.i have gone through 4 alternators in under 2 1/2 years.

2000 jimmy envoy is one big piece of junk!!!!!
U.s. Department of transportation national highway traffic safety administration office of defects investigation nvs-210, 400 7th street, sw i am writing your agency because i feel there is a serious automotive safety issue i feel you are responsible for vigorously addressing.i recently bought a used 2000 jimmy (59,000) miles and while browsing your web sight i thought i would check the recall history of the model.i found that there were two safety recall campaigns that seemed to directly apply to the car i purchased. They are identified as nhsta campaign id numbers01v364000 (brake lights etc.) and 00v228003 (seat belts).following up on this i called gm (10/3/05) to find out if the car i purchased had the safety items fixed.i supplied the vin [xxx] number to the gm representative and she refused to give me any information at all, saying that she would not because i was not the original owner.i can not understand that rationale and it indicates to me that either the items were not fixed or gm has inadequate record keeping and doesn't even know. None the less you have seen fit to issue a recall for these safety items and i fail to see how gm's refusalto disseminate knowledge about the safety status of a vehicle they manufactured furthers the mission you are charged with.it certainly would take less time to tell me the status of my vehicle than the amount of time their representative spent stonewalling me.i am seriously concerned now and request that you follow up with gm so that i can have an affirmative answer that my vehicle meets mandatory safety standards.the representative i talked to identified herself as sara roberts at 1-866-952-4368, ext 57063 and was originally polite but then became increasingly arrogant.i informed her that i intended to take up the issue with nhtsa but that clearly was not of any.updated 07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
There was an electrical short behind the radio and underneath the dashboard which caused smoke and fire. Manufacturer was contacted by consumer.vehicle was totaled.
Unarmored harness passed from underhood location to secured point on driver frame rail. Point of attachmenton bracket cut through wire insulation, resulting in a shorted conditionin several major systems including transmission shift points engine controllability and fuel indicator gauge.
Dashboard light dimmer becomes very hot to the touch when dash lights are set on low.

Oil cooling hoses went out around 43,000 had to replace and extended warranty didnt cover.heard alot of people saying this has also happend to them and think gmc needs to do something.
2000 gmc jimmy experiencing problem with start up as well as with the gas gauge on the dashboard. *mr the incident occurred on an extremely cold morning in which the vehicle would not start.the following day the vehicle started, but the consumer noticed that the gas gauge started going from empty to full.the consumer was instructed by the manufacturer to take the vehicle to the dealer and have them replace the pcm module (powertrain control module) free of charge.the engineer suggested that this problem would occur if the weather is very cold. *sc the passenger side weather strip failed.
Engine noise:this 2000 jimmy with the 4.3 vortec is quite noisy. When starting cold ,about 20 seconds later a lifter will start to rap, then will go away and then back. After coming off the highway, several lifters will get loud. Now, i have heard 4 1998-2000 4.3 in blazers and jimmys do this. Then dalerships say this is normal...technicians say there is a valve train issue. This is not normal noise..ina ddition, when loading the vehicle, likegoing up a steep hill, one or two lifters sound like they are ready to let loose.....cause of problem?
Oil cooler hoses leak.known issue on this vehicle.failure results in full oil capacity on road, and probable engine replacement
While driving at 45 mph, the check engine light came on.the dealer examined the vehicle and claimed that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.the consumer was driving at the same speed and all of the lights illuminated on the dash. The consumer pulled onto the shoulder and the vehicle was smoldering under the hood.
Vehicles shuts off without warning.the vehicle started right up after each incident.

Noticed a unusual odor coming from the engine area in late december, 2008.we took our jimmy in for routine service (1/21/2009) it was recommended that the engine oil cooler lines were leaking and need to be replaced.we found out that the oil was dripping on the exhaust system causing the unusual odor.this could result in a fire and loss of vehicle or injury to the occupants if it was not noted by the dealer technician.
Had to replace the oil cooling lines at 22,118 miles at the cost of $292.29 on my 2000 gmc jimmy.i have checked the web site for other complaints and there are several for this problem.i believe this should have been a recall by gmc.
2000 gmc jimmy experienced a problem with the front right hub and the wheel speed sensor. *mr the consumer was pulling into a parking space and the brake pedal became stiff and or would not activate.the consumer had run into a brick wall and bounced into traffic.the check abs system light had immediately illuminated.the consumer was then able to apply the brakes and backed into a parking space. The left front hub was replaced days before the consumer purchased the vehicle.the vehicle was also losing coolant.the consumer was informed that no coolant was in the vehicle. *sc
At 50,000 miles, both front wheel bearings had to be replaced, as the vehicle was pulling off the road as it was being driven. I was told that they wore because of no grease. Now at 61,000 miles, the intake manifold gasket is leaking, and the oil lines are also leaking. The dealership estimated repair costs at well over $1100 dollars. This is a 2000 gmc jimmy, and only has 61,000 miles.
Engine system: oil cooling lines: oil ( dripping) loss first noticednovember, 2010 at 90,000mi-drip became progressively worse over several weeks creating potential engine damage and fire danger.oil cooler lines replacedfirst week january, 2011 at 94,000 miles. Replacement of the oil cooler lineshas been a common and recurrent complaint for the 2000 gmc jimmy--see: mycarstats.com--since 2002.
56,000 miles-gmc altered position- created piston slap- premature wear-needs rebuilt engine.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled without any prior warning.the engine would not restart.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop for inspection.the mechanic suggested replacing the fuel pump.additionally, the mechanic determined transmission fluid was low and the wires of the wiring harness needed to be replaced.the mechanic replaced the fuel pump assembly, added transmission fluid, and new wires to the wiring harness.afterwards, the stalling problem persisted.updated 4/6/2006 -
While driving at highway speed, the engine shut down.
My 2000 jimmy has leaks assoxiated with the oil lines. I have found out that this is and has been a known problem for many years. Where is the recall? i just spent over $400 to repair...gm should pick up this cost.
I have a 1999 chevy blazer, and a 2000 gmc jimmy, which are both basically the same vehicles. The 99 blazer developed an oil leak from the oil lines at 33,000 miles, and the 2000 now has the same oil lines leaking at 41,000 miles. I have heard that this is a common problem with these vehicles, and engines have been ruined due to the oil lines. I feel that gm should offer to replace the obviously defective oil lines.
Truck shuts down for no reason at different speeds
While sitting in vehicle enginerevved very high. It happened when it was very hot.three weeks later, same problem, then a third time, and aforth time engine quit at stop sign/driving down a hill, and anywhere, without any warning sign. Vehicle cut off on interstate about 6 times. Consumer felt this was very unsafe.
Consumer states while driving or at a complete stop vehicle cuts off, without any warning. Having total lost of power, vehicle takes a least 2-3 minutes to start back up. Nlm
Vehicle shutdown without prior warning. Consumer stated no warning light appearedonpanel that showed indications of aproblem. Also, vehicle runs rough, likeengine is racing. Dealership is aware ofproblem.
While driving vehicle will stall and lose all power. Vehicle will start back up. This is an intermittent problem. Dealer contacted.
My truck lost power and stopped running while driving on the freeway on the afternoon of 9-19-03.it was eventually towed to the dealer.upon inspection i was told that nothing was wrong and that it ran fine.i was not convinced.on 9-22-03 it was determined that the truck needed a new catalitic converter and was driven in.i picked it up three days later.the next day the service light came on.i called the dealer and was told to bring it in.it was determined that the truck's computer needed to be updated.however the main computer was down and as such were not able to service it at that time.i was asked to return for reprogramming.the service light came back on on the evening of the 30th.i was not going to be able to bring it in to the shop until this week and in the meanwhile i was not driving it all that much.this past week end the service light came back on on saturday.sunday night (10-5-03) while driving home the truck lost power again (much like back on 9-19-03)and stopped running while on the freeway.i proceeded to pull over to the right shoulder.i tried to turn it back on but just made a rattling noise and then i heard a pop.about three-five minutes after my attempt to turn it on i smelled and saw smoke coming out of the front hood.i managed to get my dog and myself out.in less than three minutes that we got out of the truck it was up in flames.the fire department was called and came to take out the fire.unfortunately for me my truck was destroyed.

At first we noticed the passenger side floorboards were very wet. We proceeded to look under the vehicle, since it had been raining recently. Then we saw transmission fluid from the front of the transmission.to the rear drive axle. Immediately the vehicle was taken back to the dealership. Where the transmission pan gasket was replaced. Then the transmission pump and o-ring.a passenger side door gasket was ordered that was determined to be leaking. While waiting for the door gasket to come in, it had not rained in two weeks, but the floor continued to stay wet.since it is very hot here we notified the dealer when it was taken in for the door gasket replacement. The air conditioning drain lines were blown out to correct this problem.
Head lights and air conditioner blower come on when motor was not running.took vehicle to dealer twice, dealercouldn't findcause. Also, driver's, passenger's,and backseat squeaked/air conditioner had mildew inevaporator case, and warpped brake rotors.consumer trying to return vehicle to gmc.

I was driving at night and my headlights (which are automatic type using a light sensor) went out for a few seconds without me doing anything.after a few seconds they came back on.they did it a 2nd time for a shorter time period on the same drive and have flashed off for a few seconds temporarily on a few nights since then.the interior dash/switch lighting inside the car does not go out, just the headlamps.
The contact owns a 2000 gmc jimmy. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to complete a turn while utilizing the turn signals, the contact heard an abnormal noise after the turn would be completed although the turn signal was still engaged. The contact stated that he was an independent mechanic, and diagnosed that the vehicles multi function switch had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v231000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Abs light keeps coming on, and has already been replaced once. Dealer cant find cause.driver window would not roll up all the way while driving due to it was misaligned.underhood light bulb broken, dealer replaced bulb. Air bag light illuminates intermittently.
The stop lamps (switches/relays) failed 3 times so far.this poses a dangerous situation for families since this component fails regularly leaving the occupants without brake lights.the dealership(s) were aware of the problem but noted that gmc does not consider this widespread.i tend to disagree since this has happened regularly for us.i believe there are many 2000 jimmy owners on the road and unaware of non-working brake lights.
Brake lights and turn signals.
Pulled over to side of highway (raining) and engaged the hazard signal briefly anddisengaged and directional signal and brake lights failed to operate.mechanicchanged all bulbs that were burn out. Hazard lights and braking lights are still notoperational.
While drivingturn signal, brake lights andflashing warning lights malfunctioned.dealerchanged three times the hazard light switch, but problem recurred.
Brake lights were not working, dealer replacedmult-i function switch.
Failure in brake lights without warning.
Consumer states that brake lights failed without warning.related recall 01v364000, but consumer's vehicle not included due to vin.
Recall number 08v231000 concerning the multifunction switch in steering column.2000 gmc jimmy is experiencing same problem as recall and gm says the part was replaced back in 03 per their records but if it actually was replaced, the part that replaced it is failing just as the recall info described and could lead to light failure.my concern is they are replacing defective parts with defective parts and are unwilling to address this concern!
Consumer feels vehicle has the same problems as in recall 01v364000. The consumer wanted to know if 2 recalls he discovered had been performed on his vehicle.gm customer service would not release any information to the consumer because he was not the original owner.

Dt:the contact statedthere was gmrecall01073 on the exterior hazard lamp switch and the breaking light sensor. This recall was fixed in 2001. The contact heard a clicking sound under the dashboard, and the dealer said that it was the hazard lamp switch that was bad again, and that it could cause a fire. Henoticed this on8-6-05. Gmc wanted to charge the contactfor repairs, even though it was fixed before.also, he talked to gmc and they will not fix it again for free.

This vehicle has a defective turn indicator, the multi-function switch was replaced.*jg

I continue to have constant problems with my 2000 gmc jimmy. First thing that happened was the gas gauge just started messing up. Giving false reading. I ran out of fuel two times because the gas gauge showed i had half of tank of gas and apparently it was empty. Leaving me sitting on the side of the road way out in the country. The second time this happened it cost me my current job. My employer did not believe that my gas gage would give such false readings!
- the contact owns a 2000 gmc jimmy.the vehicle vibrated loudly when being started.the repair shop replaced the wheel cylinder for a third time. Also, the fuel sensor needed to be replaced.the failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 87,000.
I have a 2000 gmc jimmy with 49500 miles.my gas gauge started to malfunction, and was displaying inaccurate readings.i was quite concerned since this was a fuel related problem.it turns out an electrical component in the fuel sending unit gm part number 25314231 had failed.from what i was told by the gm dealer, this component is submerged in the gas tank of the vehicle.i am reporting this to you for investigation as a possible safety related issue.*nlm
When driving, windshield wipers are needed, and windshield wipers are smearing up the center portion of windshield, causing poor driver's visibility. Consumer has contatceddealer. Dealer has replaced blade and arms on five different occasions, problem still occurs. There is a gap in the rear tailgate window, however it can not be adjusted because the hinges are welded in place by a robot.vehicle experiences poor gas mileage, however dealer stated this was normal.
The gas gauge does not work once the amount of gas is below half a tank.i have a gmc 2000 model.there are many complaints about this on the internet, yet no recall. The gas needle either sticks, bounces around or shows a full tank when empty. I never know how much gas i have or if i will end up stranded on the road at night.i guess if someone has a deadly accident due to their vehicle cutting off due to an empty fuel tank with a gauge reading full in high speed traffic, someone will look at this widespread problem then.i hope that i am not that person.
The contact owns a 2000 gmc jimmy.the contact stated that the spider port injector was leaking gasoline between the firewall and the engine.there was a recall for the previous year, make, and model vehicle, but not for the 2000 jimmy.the contact smelled gasoline in the vehicle and took it to a personal mechanic.the dealer stated that gasoline leakage was a common failure.the contact feels that this is very unsafe due to the fact that gasoline leaking on a hot engine may cause a fire.the failure was noticed while driving 25 mph.the current mileage was 115,000 and failure mileage was 93,000.
My 1998 envoy had thie same issue (which i bought new) as the used 2000 gmc diamond edition jimmy i bought to replace it after i was t-boned in aug 2009... Fuel gauge is totally faulty and i have to reset the tripometer every time i fill up or will run out of gas due to false readings. As a single mommy with two kids i am scared of the idea of getting stuck on a dark highway headed in or out of town because of this.if the tripometer ever goes i will be at a loss.the key sticks in ignition and i have to turn the vehicle of and on sometimes 30 or 40 times while others only twice or so... With hundreds of complaints posted on the web... )and that is only at first glance) i have seen with these known issues i do not know what to do.
Was driving down highway all of a sudden ran out of gas, car behind me almost hit me because i slowed all of a sudden, gas gauge showed i had half tank, gas gauge bounces back and forth, it was abad fuel sensor, i feel it is a safety issue because consumer is not aware how much gas they have and could cause an accident if they run out all of sudden.

Faulty fuel pump system.
My vehicle ran fine, all of the sudden the fuel pump goes bad.

Tl *the contact owns 2000 gmc jimmy. The stated that while driving, the vehicle suddenly shut off because no fuel was being pumped in. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who stated that the fuel pump was defective. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The vehicle was not repaired. The failuremileage was approximately 80,000 and the current mileage was 138,000.
2000 jimmy envoy is one big piece of junk!!!!!
For the past two years my 2000 gmc jimmy has had continuous malfunctioning fuel gauge which is not reliable. The fuel quantity needle fluctuates and is un reliable. The dealer says the repair is expensive and is not covered, due to the vehicle being out of warranty period. The vehicle mileage is tracked to determine approx fuel quantity. I am submitting this report to urge the odi to effect a vehicle recall to fix this wide spread problem with the 2000 my gmc jimmy vehicle.
Fuel gauge has not worked for the last year.it goes from full to 3/4 of a tank and stays there.sometimes it will go all the way to "e" then bounce around.have been counting miles between fill ups to avoid running out of gas.
Fuel guage does not work.must watch odometer to guess when gas needed.abs engages at slow speeds.replaced once already.doors must be slammed violently to close doors.
My fuel gauge is malfunctioning.it floats back and fourth from full to empty.how safe can this be?also i have had problems with windows not rolling up and down and my back glass will not open from the rear outside button.
Gas gauge does not work.states full when vehicle is empty and then drops to empty after you run out of gas.i have to use my odometer to track how many miles i have driven to know when to fill tank again.
My fuel gauge in my 2000 jimmy began fluctuating wildly in januray 2008. When the tank was filled it registered fine but after some gas was consumed the gauge proved grossly inaccurate. I had to watch my trip odometer to gauge the amount gas left in the tank. I went to several mechanic's and was told that it was the sensor. However, from what i was told, the sensor and gas pump are both connected and submerged in gas. I had it repaired and luckily it was only the sensor. It cost more than $400. I was told that if the unit was severely corroded, i would have to replace both the pump and sensor. This is not a comforting experience. I assume there is no danger from fire, but i would expect the gas gauge to work and it didn't. I find it interesting that another person experience the exact same problem, only earlier.
The gas gauge does not work once the amount of gas is below half a tank, this occurs in many other gmc jimmys in the 2000 model year, i have researched this online and found many complaints about this, yet no recall. The gas needle either sticks, bounces around or shows a full tank when empty, this makes it very difficult to determine if there is enough gas to get to where you need to go and causes people to run out of gas while on the road.
Dash and interior lights go out intermittently. Dealer cannot find a cause.
Slowly the door has been getting harder and harder to close. Then the door panel started popping off everytime you close the door and now the door wont close all the way. Was told jimmys are well known for this problem with the door hinges...

Automatic transmission failure at 83,000 miles . Transmission shop said they saw alot of these jimmy with same problem, lost reverse first, then drove it to shop , in first geer. 1 week and about $2000.00 for parts and labor.
I am writing to advise the nhtsb of a potentially dangerous defect in the gm 4l60-e transmission and to request the nhtsb open an investigation to identify and resolve said defects. My request is in reference to the reaction sun shell, a part within the 4l60-e transmission prone to catastrophic failure.i own two gmc jimmy 4x4 suvs. My first jimmy is a 2000 with 60000 miles and the second is a 2001 with 50000 miles. Within the last 2months, the reaction sun shell in both of the vehicles has failed, resulting in severe damage to the 4l60-e transmissions. The failures occurred during the operation of the vehicles at highway speeds. In both cases, there was no warning of a pending failure. Both suvs experienced a sudden loss of 2nd, 3rd, od, and reverse gears, resulting in significant degradation in the performance of the vehicles and drastically reduced the operators ability to control the vehicles.failure of a single transmission in any vehicle can be attributed to a variety of circumstances. However, identical failures in multiple 4l60-e transmissions strongly indicate a systematic fault in design and/or quality. Both vehicles experience only light duty operation and are very well maintained.gmc has been made aware of the failures verbally and in writing. Thus far, gmc has refused to accept responsibility for the fault in design and/or quality and has stated it is unwilling to correct the problem. However, gmc is aware of the problem and its magnitude as evidenced by gmc tsb 00-07-30-022. Any time there is a sudden and drastic change in the operating characteristics of a motor vehicle, the operator is presented with a dangerous situation threatening the safety of the operator, passengers, and fellow drivers. With this in mind, it is my hope that the nhtsb will investigate the grievance i have presented, identify the fault as a systematic failure on the part of gmc, and issue the appropriate recall necessary to ensure the safety of everyone on our highways.*sc
While driving vehicle stalled without warning.dealer diagnosed that transmission had failed.consumer made reference to tsb#010730038 from gmc regarding transmission issues that may result in failure.
Transmission failed slipped between 1st. And 2nd. Lost reverse.
Intermittently, vehicle does not accelerate after stopping, this happens only on warmer days when the ac is on, dealer is not able to locate problem. Cj
While driving 50mph lost acceleration andall gauges.
First the transmission went out and i had to have it rebuilt...then, i had to replace a ball joint...now the other one has to be replaced.the mechanic says it is too dangerous to drive.these repairs are not cheap and premature!prior to having the transmission rebuilt i had it put on the machine and it sent out several different codes that had to be corrected...nevertheless, we still had to replace the transmission...also, the four wheel drive gets stuck periodically.
I have a 2000 gmc jimmy 4wd. It has a hd towing package. At 84,300 miles my 4le60 transmission went out. The sun gear went bad. The sun gear is the main gear in the transmission. I have never raced the truck, or towed a trailer, or went 4-wheeling with it. I paid 1,400 dollars to have it rebuilt. By looking online it seems that this is a common failure to this transmission. What recourse do i have?
The dome override button when pushed four times within 6 seconds disables the automatic exterior lights, including the headlights!. The option was was not listed in the users manual. We were driving at night when i found it by accident while trying to turn on the dome light. General motors admits that this wasoverlooked and not included in the 2000 manual. It almost got us in an accident or possibly worse. If i found it by accident, sooner or later someone else will too.the next time, it might get someone killed. People who own these 2000 models need to made aware of this option. I suspect that this omitted option is not just limited to the 2000 jimmy and fear that it may involve many, if not all of the 2000 gmc vehicles which have this dome override button.dt
This car has continually had transmission problems. I have also stopped in the dealer on 2 separate times about the transmission. The mechanic hooked up a computer to see the problem.i was never given a work order sheet for those 2 times.it has also been recalled for seat belts& ignition switch.mr
Whenvehicle is in park, andconsumer puts vehicle in drive, gear gets stuck, it won't move.also, car will not go into any gear. Dealership was notified.*ml
I put my 2000 jimmy in reverse and heard a pop sound then it would not move at all so i put it in drive a it did move then but it wined so i had to call a wrecker to come get it.i bought it from a ford dealerthey said it was the valve body it would cost 650.00 to fix but i also but the extended warrenty but it was already out the said 4 out of 5 jimmyhave the same problem
I purchased a 2000 gmc jimmy with 34000 miles on it and at 38000 miles the transmission failed. The sun shell granaded as the service people at gmc dealership put it. Now with 83000 miles the transmission did the same thing. Is there something wrong with the sun shells? is anyone else having this problem. All of my miles are highway miles and i have all my maintanence records to prove that i do scheduled maintanence on my vehicle. I also do not abuse my vehicle and do not tow anything. I'll go broke if the vehicle requires a new transmission every 40000 miles. Each time it cost approx. $4,000.00 to fix. Can anyone help? thank you
2000 jimmy envoy is one big piece of junk!!!!!
My 2000 jimmy has oil leaking from the oil cooler hoses, this is a known issue on these vehicles. Where is the recall? also, my gas gauge is displaying inaccurate readings. I hear this is also common on gmc jimmy's. Where is that recall? now to go along with my power window switch not working, molding coming loose, rear inside door handle breaking off, etc. All this with only 49,000 miles.
There were no lights in gear shift box located on floor. Consumer was unable to see the gear shift indicator while driving at night. Dealer/manufacturer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was designed that way.any added parts would be at consumer's cost.
Rear axle gears failed- gears sheared-new unit installed.
2000 gmc jimmy caught fire underneath by the rear axle.the fire occurred inside rear axle and differential. Ohio traffic crash report# 10-91-0790.
Loud humming sounds, and front wheels lock up when brakes applied.both left and right side hub bearings failed.both hub bearing kits were replaced by the dealer at a cost of almost $1100.00.this vehicle had just turned 70,000 miles and has never been off roading.

I am frustrated with all the problems with this vehicle. No safety defect listed.

This vehicle was delivered new all four wheels out of balance, out of alignment, and a severe driveline vibration. The cure for the driveline vibration was to reinstall the driveshaft because it was a 180 degrees out!i do not know how many other jimmy's were delivered like this, but it sure was a serious problem for us. Shame on general motors!!!!!dt
1st 3 time now my check engine light went on for the samr thing secondary air injector system malfunction.it was just a bad sensor its still doing it.they want 140. Just for parts to fix it. 2nd i spent about 1000.00 to fix frount brakes rotors pads andwheel berrings.the owner of the garage said that he fixed about 50 of these a year my suv was only 2 at the time 3rdi also spent almost 3000.00 on a tranny last year because i lost all gears i only had drive.i had recomened the gmc jimmy to at least 8 to 10 friends 7 bought them 5 have had the same problems as i have with tranny and brakes now my brakes are squeeking frount and back not grinding nothing wrong with back brakes ever had them checked they said they are fine.but very squeeky that is very annoying.when we lost reverce we was backing up and if the car behind us didnt back up we would have hit him.i thought i woul let you know some of the things that have been happing to myself and friendsthe last thing we fixed was the tranny.
Vehicle goes into 4-wheel low drive when it is raining. Owner took the vehicle back to the dealer, who did a diagnostic, and told the owner that there was nothing they could do. This defect would have to occur while plugged into the diagnostic machine which was impossible. Took vehicle to another dealership on 03/05/2005, they plugged in and no code found in the computer.they also said vehicle would not go into 4 wheel low pulling up to a stop sign.
While driving down the highway vehicle all of a sudden went into 4wd low, could not get vehicle out of 4 low, had towed to dealer, was found had a faulty 4x4 switch and module, had replaced three times, cause is water intrusion, i feel this is a safety issue when vehicle slows all of a sudden.
While on mycarstats.com i noticed other complaints in regards to my 2000 gmc jimmy jumping into 4 low.one person was told by the dealership this could not happen at a stop sign but it happens with mine a lot.the odd thing is we have noticed it happens the most frequently when the humidity is very high.if you are lucky enough to hear it switching you can try to continue moving and pushing the 2wd button frantically.if you aren't lucky enough to catch it, the vehicle has to be stopped completely, put in reverse and push the 2wd button continuously.other times vehicle has to be shut completely off??i too agree there is a safety issue with this when you can't go any faster than 5 mph or need to put your car in reverse at a stop sign!!
Consumer feels vehicle has the same problems as in recall 01v364000. The consumer wanted to know if 2 recalls he discovered had been performed on his vehicle.gm customer service would not release any information to the consumer because he was not the original owner.
The 13 year old in the back seat behind the passenger was buckled.the impact happend on the passenger side behind the driver's seat (so opposite of the child).some how he was suspened by the seatbelt in the back of my trunk. He bent the head rest in half, and the seat was still in place.he still was buckled and some how he ended up in the trunk.he is alive and has a few bruises and seatbelt burns around his stomach area, but it is a miracle his back and neck are okay.
Seat belt (drivers) will not engage.sometimes will engage after you have driven a few miles.
I own a 2000 gmc jimmy and some were recalled for their seat belts and i am experiencing the same problems but i was tolled mine was not included in the recall. (seat belts not tightening while one is buckled in and seat belts are so loose they get tangled when you unbuckle there is also one belt that keeps tightening after being buckled to the point of cutting the skin.) i bought this jimmy this year 2010.

The front seat back recliner handle has broken for the second time.upon review of the part it would appear that it has failed under a torsion load.upon examination of the part, the bos that protrudes from the seat and that the recliner handle attaches to is the item that failed.the boss itself appears to be made from powder metal.the dealership service department when contact confirmed that the part is made out of powder metal.a slot is cut directly through the center of this boss as to accept the handle screw. The handle screw slot probably weakens the boss even further.i do not understand why a part that has repeated loading would be made of such a material since some of the properties of powder metal do not include those required for repeated torsion.as i can surmise, this is the second failure of this particular part in my vehcile.the part was replaced by jim causley gmc, june of 2000.i am concerned that a rear occupant could become trapped in the event of an accident since the lever in question controls the forward movement of the seat back. Your follow up on this matter is greatly appreciated.regards ken keck.

My 2000 gmc jimmy has defective seat recliners, the cost of this to repair is exactly $350, i have taken the vehicle back to the dealership and they have told me that there is nothing that they can do to fix the case, i have talked to several people that own these vehicles including the chevy blazer and this is a common problem, nine times out of ten they break, my father has been in the industrial industry and has informed me that they used cheap metal in making these, what i need to know is what can i do, i purchased this vehicle and all the great warranties that they sell and now my great warranties are worthless, please helpdirect me to someone who can help, also am i entitled to getting money back for worthless warrantie that they sold me.
Driver's side seat mechanism used to recline seat broke off while attempting to recline seat.took vehicleto dealer, and they replaced handle.consumer feels this is unsafe because vehicle is a two door. Inan accidentrear passenger would be trapped, unable to get out. Please provide any furtherinformation.

My wife started the car and the red brakes warning light was on.she pumped the brake pedal and it went to the floor. She turned the car off and returned to the house and cancelled her scheduled appointment.later, after i arrived home i inspected the brake lines and found evidence of leaking above the left rear wheel.i jacked up the car, removed the left rear wheel and a rubber shield between the frame rail and body.more evidence of a leak was present.i started the car, pumped the brakes twice, turned off the car and reinspected the area.the metal brake line that runs along the top of the frame rail had a leak where it 90s toward the center of the axle.
This happens a lot.i was backing up out of my sister's driveway and when i hit the brakes there was a crunching feeling under my foot along with a weird sound like, "doing" at the end.i could not stop fast enough and ran into her brother in laws hitch on his truck with my right rear corner bumper cover. (if that's what it's called?maybe fascia?) it didn't hurt his truck at all, but it sure busted up that corner piece real good on my jimmy.it's been scary a few times since!i have had the brakes bled, and new brake pads installed, and it's still doing it!also, the abs light is on most of the time.when it's off is when this problem occurs.so i get a little panicky when that light goes off, although i'm pretty sure it shouldn't be on to begin with?i don't know what else to do about this except to contact someone about it.i read somewhere that this abs issues is from a problem with a sensorsomething or other gets corroded and has been recalled.is this true?p.s. I have noticed the abs light goes off when it's rainy, sometimes when it's snowy, and usually when you first get in the vehicle to go somewhere, if that helps.
While driving at low speeds the anti-lock brakes enable on their own. It makes vehicle hard to stop properly. It has not been corrected yet, the cost was approx.$450.00 to correct

Noticed dampness around the left rear brake hose to rear brake caliper. We took our vehicle to be inspected and were told that there are "2" copper washers that are causing the leak and requires replacement.we were also told that this is quite a common problem.if this was not repaired and the leak continued, it would have resulted in the loss brake performance, loss of vehicle control and injury to the occupants.
At 94,445 miles: noticed a small leakage on garage floor, forward of left rear tire--within 10 miles noted significantly reduced braking capability.taken to repair facility the following morning...the steel brake lines on driver's side were found corroded and cracked which caused brake fluid loss-ironically as the service technician was pulling the vehicle into the service bay--there was a total loss ofrear brakes-- only then--in the bay, did the "brake" service warning light came on!(good reason to call them ' idiot'lights).
Upon inspection of 2000 gmc jimmy 4dr /4wdbrake line drivers side over frame next to fuel tank held down by a clip leading to rear brakes ruptured due to corrosion around the clip area that holds the line to frame causing total loss rear brakes and proper braking when brake pedal went to the floor while returning home to park vehicle at our residence,.. Luckily at time of incident we were on our own rural property in driveway which is (approximately 2/10 mile long) and not the busy main highway which was traveled at 55 mph.the terrain was used in our driveway to bring the vehicle to a safe stop. Thankfully no injury's to occupants (including a 3 year old child)or damage to vehicle occurred with this incident.

Was slowing at low speed, brakes would not stop right away, almost hit vehicle in front of me, was told i had bad wheel hub/speed sensors, due to corrosion, had to replace both sides, i feel it is a safety issue not being able to stop , there is open recall on gmc trucks, same problem with gmc jimmy.
Consumer applied the brakes while driving 20-25 mph, pedal felt normal, but no braking action, vehicle hit a tree, no injuries, damage to vehicle was $9000.00. On 30 dec 2001 while driving 30-35 mph consumer applied brakes, pedal felt normal, no braking action. Consumer was able to stop safely. Consumer noticed on braking there was an electrical noise.. Consumer stated when attempting to make a right turn and applied the brake the vehicle felt like it was on ice.
*sc
"complete" brake failure -geared down, swerver into parking lot-heart patient and disabled vietnam vet. 100% - dealer very ho-hum about this "like it's happened before" ??

Upon hearing the wear indicator on front brakes of my 2000 gmc jimmy with 24000+ miles on it, i took it in for repair expecting only pad replacement and maybe machining of the rotors.as it turned out, all 4 rotors needed replacement due to large areas of deep corrosion that, according to the repair shop, was severe enough to affect braking, and thus, pad wear, leading to premature failure of these critical components.an attempt was made to machine one rotor to get past the corrosion, but the corrosion was too deep and would leave the rotor too thin.the repair shop is beginning to see this problem on late model gm vehicles, and as such, provided me with all the parts that were replaced (4 rotors and all pads) as well as an itemized list of new parts used in anticipation of some sort of follow-up action from gm or the government.

Sometimes when applying brakes i heard a noise.took vehicle to dealer and was informed that i needed new front and rear brakes.in addition, rear rotors were so coroded that they where not resurfacable and needed to be replaced.total charge $1000.why would rear rotors corode so severely after only 46,900 miles and 3.25 years of driving?
- the contact owns a 2000 gmc jimmy.the vehicle vibrated loudly when being started.the repair shop replaced the wheel cylinder for a third time. Also, the fuel sensor needed to be replaced.the failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 87,000.

I am concerned because i am the third person i know of with gmc jimmy 99 or newer who had to have upper ball joints, tierod(s) and the right wheel bearing replaced when vehicle was at or just over 3 yrs old.the fact that 2 of the 3 had the problems paid for by gmc dealer, even though vehicle was out of warranty, makes me think gm knew this problem was occurring & chose to address it on an "as needed basis, instead of a recall.my costs were said to be a "gm customer loyalty adjustment". I am confused that my dealer at first said i was to pay for parts only, no labor.then changed it to labor only, not parts.i noticed afterward that my invoice for the work shows wording that lifetime warranty applies to only customer paid parts. Does that mean since i did not pay for the parts, there is no warranty?i appreciate not having to pay for the repairs, but something definitely smells fishy.
While driving my 2000 gmc jimmy my left side upper ball joint broke. Luckily i had just came out of a sharp corner and my speed was only about 25 mph. A car had just passed in the other direction when my vehicle swerved to the left, halfway into the other lane before i was able to get control of it. Upon inspection, the tire was leaning inward and my brake line was severed. I had to use my emergency brake to stop.

When the steering idler arm fell off the front left side sounds like it's going to come through the hood! and they can't seem to figure out the problem!!
While pulling into an intersection vehicle lost steering. Vehicle towed to a repair shop, and informed consumer thatengine cradle boltsneeded to be replaced. Feel free to provide any further information.
The contact owns a 2000 gmc jimmy. The contact stated that the rear latch, front driver and front passenger side doors failed to close.
Intermittently, wind noise coming from the driver's and passenger's side door, doors adjusted, doors now squeak in addition to wind nosie. Cj
Slowly the door has been getting harder and harder to close. Then the door panel started popping off everytime you close the door and now the door wont close all the way. Was told jimmys are well known for this problem with the door hinges...
Pin in driver door hing broke
Door hinges have broken at least four times since purchase 2 1/2 years ago - the bushing breaks and the door "falls" open and when pulled close, hikes up over the peg.can't understand why this problem keeps recurring on both doors and we have to pay $200 to have it fixed!
Dt: the contact owns a 2000 gmc envoy diamond edition which hebought new with major guard protection. Currently has40,000 miles on it,and two years left on my major guard insurance. A safety problemsurfaced. The top hinges on the two front doorscracked , causing doors to open while driving down the highway.the front doors were sagging and not aligned correctly with striker plate. The contactstopped at local dealership and talked to the service representative. . he looked for tsb bulletins for2000 jimmy envoy. He said there were no bulletins or recalls on the door hinges , but noticed they have changed from welded hinges back to bolt on hinges, and the problems were not covered by gm or major guard protection plan. For approximately $700-$800 they could change the hinges to solve the problem.
Gmc jimmy, both driver and passenger doors drop when opened. Wont close correctly, have to slam them. Per a csc representative at gmc, this is a known ongoing problem, with no resolution. I want the hinges on both doors replaced on my vehicle and my sons gmc sonoma. Before the doors don't shut. They say there is nothing they can do to help me with this situation because i am not an long time reliable customer to the speedway chevy dealership they called!

There is a loud popping sound when turning either right or left. Took vehicle to dealer 1 times, lubed steering. Said did not hearpopping sound.
I have had to replace both the right and left wheel bearings in less than six months at a cost of $200 in warranty deductibles, and missed work as a result.i have read other complaints on this site and am completely appalled at the fact that gm has not considered a recall concerning this issue.dt
Had to replace both upper ball joints, right tie-rod & right wheel bearing with only 35,000 miles & 2 month out of warranty. One owner vehicle, serviced regularly at dealership only. *nlm
2000 jimmy has had noise and vibration in front end since it had 4900 miles on it. Repeated complaints to the dealer but they "could not duplicate" the problem, so nothing's been done. Sounds like the driver's side front wheel is going to fall off, and vibration is felt in steering wheel, seat and floor.
This car has continually had transmission problems. I have also stopped in the dealer on 2 separate times about the transmission. The mechanic hooked up a computer to see the problem.i was never given a work order sheet for those 2 times.it has also been recalled for seat belts& ignition switch.mr

Consumer stated while drivingvehicle suddenly accelerated. At the same time was hit at passenger's side by another vehicle, and neither of the air bags deployed. Consumer lost the memory, and did not remember too much about the accident, how it happened.
Tookin for an routine inspection, and dealer told consumer that ball joints were worn.consumerstates other dealers stated that they have a long list of people complaining about ball joints.
Consumer states that the front ball joints need to be replaced due to excessive wear and lack of lubrication. The dealerreplaced the joints with grease fitting. Feel free to provide any further information.
While driving 60 mph front end vibrated violently.dealer stated the upper and lowerball jointsfailed.

Ball joints upper and lower.i had them repaired once, and now not even six months later they need repair again.
Without warning, ball joint failed resulting in front tire coming partially off vehicle.repaired at dealer who claimed it was "not unusual" to have the ball joints fail.
I have a 200 gmc jimmy purchased in october of 2003.at that time it had 32,000 miles on it.at 42,000 miles i had to replace the lower ball joints.it currently has 80,000 miles on it and the lower ball joints had to be replaced again. I learned from the dealership when seeking a solution to this problem that the lower ball joints had also been replaced at 23,000 miles.i contacted gm and asked them to replace the ball joints fully but was given a 50/50 split.so what am i supposed to do in about 30,00 miles?
Took car in for inspection was told lower ball joint was worn and needed to be replaced by gm dealer car only has 23,330 miles on it and was purchased 9/03. Did notice when driving the car would make a loud "popping" noise when it was turning in either direction since i purchased car. Thought everything was cheaked out by dealer
Consumer states that right upper ball joint and lower ball joint separated from the wheel. Dealer notified.
While driving 60 mph front end vibrated violently.dealer stated the upper and lowerball jointsfailed.
Upper ball joint separated ,wheel assembly lost support and fell inward at the top, lost steering control, failure occurred on a soft gravel road at low speed . No one was injured . The abs wire was cut at the wheel as a result of the ball joint failure .according to the repair facilitythe wire is not repairable as it is part of the front rotor assembly and must be serviced as a assembly .
Had 2 sets of ball joints go bad.lots of squeaking when go over bumps.also hear "bang" sound when turn corners to the right going slowly.
While having the front end alignedmechanic noticed the lower ball joints needed to be replaced.consumer was reimbursed for the work performed. Then, on 01/06/2005, while driving the vehicle andturning a corner, consumer thought vehicle sustained aflat.got out, and saw that the right front tire was turned under the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop, and mechanic determined that front ball joints were defective.....consumer took vehicle to dealer, they did an alignment, and replaced the ball joints.
Ball joints upper and lower.i had them repaired once, and now not even six months later they need repair again.
Consumer states that right upper ball joint and lower ball joint separated from the wheel. Dealer notified.
Left upper ball joint broke off from the suspension 'a' arm causing loss of control of the vehicle and substantial damage to the wheel as well as catastrophically damaging the front brake system by severing the flexible brake hose.*ph

Front wheel bearings failed.
While driving heard a loud humming noise from front of vehicle. Dealer found front hub bearing needed replacement. Drivers side was replaced under warranty on 2/20/03 (note: i am the original owner and vehicle had 27,000 miles when problem first occurred). Same problem occurred on 3/15/04 that time on passenger side. Dealer replaced passenger side hub bearing on 3/15/04 and cost was split 50/50 with gm and myself (note: 46,000 miles on vehicle). Same problem recurred on 9/15/06 on passenger side hub bearing. Dealer states that hub bearing is bad and needs to be replaced again which is a $500 repair job.furthermore this problem never occurred before with any other vehicle i have owned or any other non-jimmy owners that i know of. From reviewing your complaints and talking to other jimmy owners, this is a widespread recurring problem and a known defect that should be fixed by gm.
2000 jimmy envoy is one big piece of junk!!!!!
Passenger side wheel bearing failed, drivers side has failed twice now.can't seem to get the front end to align either.been to 3 shops and it still eats my tires.got a nice email back from gmc says they don't show any claims through dtealerships, i could barely afford the $400 bearing much less have them bend me 90 degrees on the labor.
Front wheel bearing failure, causing both front wheels to loosen on the hub, i immediately took it to me mechanic who stated both wheels were ready to fall off. Upon research, this problem seems to happen on significant numbers of these vehicles do to design flaw of front suspension. The suspnsion is not desigend for the weight of the newer models jimmy.
While driving heard a humming noise. Had vehicle check out.front wheel bearings were defective, had them replaced, after 33000 miles, the right wheel bearings had to be replaced again. Contacted dealer.

Wheel bearings on the front left and right side. They both failed, plus the abs light illuminated. The whole wheel bearing assemblywas replaced this truck is junk and i will never own a gm ever again. This repair cost about 900.00 total.
The wheel bearings have been replaced 3x's, u-joints 2x's, also fuel pump, heater core(when this was repair my dash was bowed, when i went back to the dealer they told me it was worped...but it was fine before they did the heater core repair and denied any responsibility), multi-function swich, pinion seal, sway bar radiator, the power mirrors are broke for the 2nd time and have replaced the drivers door hinge 3 times and now the manifold seal is leaking.also when it gets below a certain temp, the windshield wipers will not clear the windshield these are what i can think of off the top of my head.when the break switch went i felt it was a fire hazard and safety issue cuz the break lights would not turn off so the fuse had to be pulled and had to drive the vehicle to the repair shop with no break lights.was about 5 minutes before i pulled the fuse and the back lights were very hot and it wouldn't taken much longer for the to cause a fire. The vehicle has 100,000 miles but they are easy miles and mostly highway.all maintenance has been done.this truck has one of the biggest pieces of junk i"ve ever own, would like to get rid of it but can't afford cuz everytime i go to repair it all repairs are between $400-600.i can say the only thing that has been good were the tires and breaks of which i got $70,000 miles out of but than the breaks were $$ maintenance repair cuz now we replace everything instead of turning the rotors and the break brades are very noisy.

Appears as though something in the rear of the vehicle failed and causing the left rear wheel to turn faster than the right wheel, this causes the vehicle to turn sharply to the right.

When driving, windshield wipers are needed, and windshield wipers are smearing up the center portion of windshield, causing poor driver's visibility. Consumer has contatceddealer. There is a gap in the rear tailgate window, however it can not be adjusted because the hinges are welded in place by a robot.vehicle experiences poor gas mileage, however dealer stated this was normal.

Driverside mirrior has double vision, and it is difficult to see. Dealership is aware ofproblem.
Abs light keeps coming on, and has already been replaced once. Dealer cant find cause.driver window would not roll up all the way while driving due to it was misaligned.underhood light bulb broken, dealer replaced bulb. Air bag light illuminates intermittently.
When the outside temperature falls much (more than ~5 degrees f) below freezing, the windshield wipers fail to operate properly.it appears that they tend to keep a curved shape from resetting against the bottom of the windshield when not in use and do not clear the area directly in front of the driver causing poor visibility.this effect worsens as the temperature falls.a new set of wiper blades (winter blades, made for low temperature)failed to alleviate the problem.the most severe happened on march 4, 2003 the preceding car sprayed a salt/water mixture on the windshield that had to be removed by hand after stopping on the side of the road due to zero visibility.
