The oem battery developed a slow leak.the highly corrosive fluid dripped onto several brake lines and the actuator cable for the 4wd transfer case.the corrosive destroyed the cable and began to eat away at several brake lines that run to the front brakes.if i had not found the leak in time, the battery corrosive would have eaten through the brake lines causing complete brake failure.the battery acid also corroded the right front frame member.i recently discovered that other gmc trucks (not jimmy/blazer) have had the same/similar problem which triggered a nhtsb product safety alert.this is a serious problem.i contacted gmc and told them about this...they seemed indifferent. I tried to tell them about the product safety alert for this same problem to their yukons & suburbans but gmc would not corroborate my information. The file number gmc issued for my complaint was 00048689.thank you.

Both outside mirrors have fallen off before 90k miles.this was due to the plastic deteriorating at the junction where the mirror "folds away."replaced egr valve several times.the first three were under warranty, the rest have been on me.in addition, most major fuel system components have been replaced, or repaired.the idle has always been rough, and it will on occasion, smoke and omit strong odors of unburned fuel.wipers failed at 20k miles.i resoldered the circuit board to correct the problem.drivers seat will not stay in a locked position, which causes me some concern.by the way, the first week i had the car (bought it new), the seat would not stay locked.took it to the dealer, and was promptly told that "it is a normal condition."hmmm, as a design engineer i have to wonder about the logic behind this; as any forward or rearward impact would allow the seat to flex which could make a minor non-injury accident something far worse.the water pump has been replaced three times, alternator twice, battery five.all parts were replaced with original parts through gm.i have had all brake components replaced three times, and still there is a painful chatter of the pedal under certain conditions, which is outside the abs parameters.wind noise is quite loud, as the fit of the drivers side door is, for lack of a better word, terrible.the plastic which covers the a/c within the engine compartment has deteriorated to the point where it has broken and fallen away, piece by piece, sometimes lodging itself on the exhaust manifold, causing some rather unpleasant odors.oh, and since there is no longer any covering over the a/c, it goes without saying that the coldness, which was the saving grace of this vehicle, has been reduced to that of a glorified fan.

With the first event they replaced-battery nad serb belt. The next event happened 2 months later. The next event occurred when the engine began to run so roughly that the brakes would barely stop the car. That time they replacedan egr valve. Within the week a third event occured. The car wouldn't start because of a dead battery. The problems were finally traced to a leaking battery and corroded battery cable. So far i haves spent a total of $935.86 having the things fixed that eventually was traced to the battery/battery cable leakage

Battery has gone bad/died due toleaking acid, consumer noted burning acid in the upper corner of the battery towards the engine. The acid was eating up the wiring.also,aroundaxle and wheel chassis there were acid burns. While going about (45) or (50) mph driver lost the steering, brakes and all electrical functions, /happened on 10/26/95. On 10/10/95, while driving,all of a sudden vehicle just shut off,happened again on 10/14/96.

Also noted wipers not working (see 112198). 042098: pinion seal leaking/replaced @ independent facility/check engine light on-rough start (see 033199). 060198: heat/smoke @ dash & alarm malfunctioning-short in driver side seat lumbar support switch wiring repaired @ independent facility. 112198 (see 030998): windshield wiper motor assembly replaced @ independent facility/hard starting also noted (see 033199). 022399: egr valve replaced @ dealer but 0699-code 32 on computer @ independent facility (egr valve); dealer advised central port injector leaking (see 070396) . 033199: central port injector replaced again, @independent facility (originally replaced 070396, reported faulty 091897, 042098, 112198, 022399). 070499: anti-lock brakes failed @ 65 mph, resulting in tripped rollover & 3 injuries-vehicle totalled; wheels locked, skidded 300' on straight stretch of road (wet/dry). Injuries included severe lacerations from broken glass, contusions, seat belt burn @ neck (seat belts non-adjustable), and abrasions. Manufacturer has been contacted (072299).

Starter failed twice.

Vehicle campaign nos. 96070 and 99041 were serviced in august, 2000. Immediately after this the brake fuse began to blow every time the brakes were applied moderate to hard. Easy brake application does not blow the fuse. The brakes are all good, fluid is full, all wiring has been inspected for possible damage, wheel sensors are functioning, and nothing else happened to the vehicle since the campaign was performed. The dealer says that the problem is unrelated to the campaign, but i disagree. Mechanically, everything checks out fine and in all probability i think that the problem lies in the computer system, which was modified during the campaign. The problem did not exist until right after the campaign was performed. I do not think that i should have to pay to have this problem fixed because it started after the campaign was performed and in all probability as a result of it. Could you please tell me what options are available to me to remedy this problem? thank you.

After replacing the water pump and thermostat at 117000 miles, the engine overheats when the a/c is used for long periods of time. Afraid to travel due to overheating. Bubbling from under the dash also. When not running a?c it runs ok. Fluids all well changed and maintained regularly.

Once fuel gauge reaches 1/4 tank, it bobs between empty and 1/4 tank left.anyone else with this problem?also just learned that 6 (six !!!) freeze plugs have rusted out and require engine to be pulled for replacement.total cost of repair $1,739.39.how unusual is this?any advise on who to contact and what to do?

I have had two high pressure oil hoses blow and lost oil in both instances. Second incident caused engine block to crack. In talking with a number of mechanics, including dealerships, i was told this is a common occurence and fault with this model of vehicle.

Carbon build up in the system has had me to have the egr valves replaced and vacuumed out 3 times.the whole fuel injection system was replaced in jan 2000 and it is doing it again.rear center seat belts will not lock on occasions.oil lines continuously leak

Transmission failed at 67,000 miles. Rust on dipstick.transmission fluid burned.bought goodwrench transmission and had it installed.this cost $1450. Now this transmission has failed with only 40,000 on it. Same problem as before, rust on dipstick and fluid burned.when i contacted general motors they said there was nothing they could do. I'm asking for help. I've read several other complaints about rust on dipstick and in transmission. I'm afraid to spend more money on this thinking it might happen again. Pleas look into this. At 50,000 miles vehicle had been expereincing oil leakages fromoil lines. Dealer and manufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further details concerning this matter.

I was pulling into my driveway, when the engine started running eratically. When i started to slow down i noticed the brake pedal was hard and it was very difficult to stop. Fortunetly i was going slow or i would have literally gone through my garage. I was able to get the car to a mechanic who replaced the egr valve.

Engine check light was coming on at 30,000 miles. At 77,000 milesegr valve was replaced. Original engine failed at 104,616 miles (approx 1000 miles from home), taken to dealership and was told replacement engine would be installed within 2 days. Waited 24 days for completion of job (during this period was told the new engine was installed, and to come retreive the car. Upon arrival, car was not done). On july 2 returned to dealership to pick up car, the car made it approximately 70 miles before it started with loud knocking noises and a severe decrease in power. Car is now at another dealership (900 miles from home)who states "you need a new engine."

Knock detected in engine. Bearing failure - engine replacement recommended. Engine was well maintained, as confirmed by inspection of internals. Probable cause said to be inadequate oil supply to front end of engine.

When gas tank is near empty and engine dies while traveling downhill at a 15 degree slope or greater.consumer very concerned about safety due to hills in area being very steep,and vehicle stalling.

Oil lines running from the engine to the oil filter then to the oil cooler leak.leak got worse and blew out one of the lines and caused engine to lock up on freeway.

At 60+ mph my high pressure oil line crimped fitting let go. When this happened i lost 5qts. Of oil all over my front brakes, marking it very difficult to come to a stop. These fittings should never fail, but last the life of the vehicle. It is not a part that wears out from use and if so, 61,000 i think would be to soon?i have over the past two weeks tried to get gmc to respond to this as a serious problem, to no avail. I also explained to them that at 60 mph i could have lost both my power steering and brakes if the motor had seized do to lack of lost oil. No response. I also explained that the shop where i have my work done has had 4-5 of these failures in just the last 2 months and told them to contact my tech. To find out more, again no response. The other problem is when i lost all my oil at such a rapid rate i now have done some serious damage to my engine, which i feel could still seize. I feel they are responsible and are avoiding not only the damage to my engine, but the fact that this failure has happened 4-5 times at my shop. Please feel free to contact me asap with more detailed info. Their lack of customer concern, safety, and damage that this defect has caused is why i felt it was important that i contactsomeone who needs to address this problem.this engine damage could cost me a new engine thru no fault of my own.

Rear window would not lock--bolts holding the lock needed tightening. Transmission not shifting. Engine overheats. Tire blowout. Front brakes fail. Engine stalls. Owner wants to be refunded for car.

I purchased a 1995 gmc jimmy with 37,000 miles in 1997. I started having problems with it shifting around 50,000 miles. I had never towed anything with it. I had the transmission fluid and filter changed to see if it would help. The dipstick was rusted very badly and the fluid was milky and burned. I had a transmission shop check it that told me it needed an electronic shift control module. I had it replaced but it didn't help. At 67,000 miles the transmission failed completely. I purchased a goodwrench transmission from a dealership in my town thinking this would be the best thing to do because it had a 3 year 50,000 mile warranty. The transmission cost $1350 and the installation cost $100. This was a reputable transmission shop. I also removed the radiator and had it completely rodded out and the transmission cooler replaced to make sure everything was ok. At 104,000 miles, approximately 40,000 miles on the goodwrench transmission, it started shifting badly. I had the fluid and filter changed again. Same thing, dipstick very rusted and fluid milky and burned. I contacted the dealership and my warranty had run out by exactly one month. I contacted the gm corporation and was told there was nothing could be done. I have driven the vehicle having to let out of the throttle in order for it to shift from first to second gear until now. Now this transmission has completely failed. I changed the fluid and filter myself this time to see if it might work. The fluid was burned again with only about 8 or 9 thousand miles on it.i began researching and have found a lot of owners having the same exact problems as i have had. I have been told gm has come out with a new valve body to fix this problem. This tells me that they know there was a defect in the first place. Exhst. Gas recirc system (egr) valve replaced 3 times, vehicle acts like it may stall when slowing

O2 sensor replaced three times cleaned once. Manufacturer unable to advs us why it keeps failing.

Numerous problems have arisen since the purchase of the car.the egr valve was replaced at 34000 miles, the o2 sensor was replaced at 35000 miles, the windshield wipers failed before the recall, presently the car can only intermittantly be switched between 4 hi, 4 lo and 2 hi, the air condiitoner went out at 35000 miles, the seat was off track right after purchase, the hydraulic arms for the rear glass get stuck in the up position if left open for more than 5 minutes. The car only has 42000 miles on it and has had a high number of nuisance problems.

Carb0n dioxide smell within vehicle. Also replaced egr and tp sensor.

We purchased this vehicle in december 1996, the egr valve has failed five separate times (was replaced only once under warranty) and we've just recently replaced the transmission.i consider myself fortunate that no one has been hurt when the egr valve fails aswe have no warning and lose all brake function.

Egrvalue sticks, mechanic blew out line , and cleaned, dealership will not replaced value even with copy of form-g98066 7 year warranty, requesting reimbursement of 924.06 for dealer charge 1st service, 2nd service changed fuel filter 126.00 : other mechanic service for same problem 150.00 dated from august of 2000- december 2000.response and help will be appreciated..........i would like my money back.

Was at stop light and egr valve became stuck due to carbon buildup. Also, vacuum presure to master cylinder was not slowing brakes at low speeds. Have no brake pressure.

Egr valve keeps getting clogged with debris from catalytic converter causing truck to run rough and stall.when valve is stuck open brakes also fail.this has been an ongoing problem since i purchased the used vehicle in 5/00.it only had 68,000 mi.i received a recall notice but it had limit of 75,000 mi and i had 78,000 when i received it and the dealer would only fix it if i paid for it.i know there is a replacement kit because they told me there was.they said that some kind of screen needs to be fitted to keep pieces of carbon buildup from being sucked into to egr valve from the converter.this seems like an easy and simple fix. Everyone i talk to who has the same engine has the same problem.i am appalled that manufactures can put a mileage limit on their recalls!especially when brakes are involved.after looking through your list and i've seen how many complaints you have on file about this problem why isn't anything being done!!does someone have to die to get your attention!i pray everytime my truck starts acting up that me and my 9-yr. Ea94-038; upon making a gradual stop the pedal became very hard to depress, pedal travaeled to the floorboard, resulting in extended stopping distance. Pontiac - gmc notice g98066 states a possible failure of the linear exhaust gas recirculation (legr) valve. It clearly states the failure except for the loss of brakes. When the valve sticks open vacuum is lost which causes sudden loss of the power brakes.this has occured 3 times. They will only repair or replace the value which is the result but not the cause. I would like two things: 1) a new notice to all owners about the break loss and 2) a correction of the problem ( which i.'m told requires the intake manafold to be removed & cleaned.

There was a factory recall on the egr valve. We have no replaced this valve 2 times is 1 1/2 years. We were told the recall will not apply this time. There has to be a larger problem that causes this to happen.

The egr valve has failed numerous times in the recent past.either this part is defective, or some other component is contributing to its failure.according to my mechanic, he has seen a number of gmc vehicles with this engine type that have had similar failures.

I have done a lot of research on this problem, and the faulty design of the egr valve system on this motor, leads to senseless frequent need to be removed and cleaned due to carbon chunks causing the valve to stick open (about every 500 miles). When this occurs (without warning)the brake system almost completely fails, (albeit at low speeds), and we have the added danger of having to frequently repair this problem on the side of the road, (amidst traffic), or be subject to monthly towing and repair bills.this is a rediculous problem, and i beleive that a fix for this problem should be devised by gm, and applied to all gm vehicles that have the vortec 4.3 v6 engine, and electronic egr valve.

This is the second fuel injector assembly in this car in 114,000 miles to fail. The cars mileage is drastically reduced, it smells of unburnt fuel and runs poorly.gmc is unwilling to provide any compensation for an obvious premature failure of this part.

When originally purchased, the car would not pass inspection r/t brakes and emissions. I purchased a 1995 gmc jimmy with 37,000 miles in 1997. I started having problems with it shifting around 50,000 miles. I had never towed anything with it. I had the transmission fluid and filter changed to see if it would help. The dipstick was rusted very badly and the fluid was milky and burned. I had a transmission shop check it that told me it needed an electronic shift control module. I had it replaced but it didn't help. At 67,000 miles the transmission failed completely. I purchased a goodwrench transmission from a dealership in my town thinking this would be the best thing to do because it had a 3 year 50,000 mile warranty. The transmission cost $1350 and the installation cost $100. This was a reputable transmission shop. I also removed the radiator and had it completely rodded out and the transmission cooler replaced to make sure everything was ok. At 104,000 miles, approximately 40,000 miles on the goodwrench transmission, it started shifting badly. I had the fluid and filter changed again. Same thing, dipstick very rusted and fluid milky and burned. I contacted the dealership and my warranty had run out by exactly one month. I contacted the gm corporation and was told there was nothing could be done. I have driven the vehicle having to let out of the throttle in order for it to shift from first to second gear until now. Now this transmission has completely failed. I changed the fluid and filter myself this time to see if it might work. The fluid was burned again with only about 8 or 9 thousand miles on it.i began researching and have found a lot of owners having the same exact problems as i have had. I have been told gm has come out with a new valve body to fix this problem. This tells me that they know there was a defect in the first place. Seat belt is very easily released. The consumer has had buckle release twice while driving.

The rear middle lap seat belt won't latch on or unlatchdue to the seat belt block retractor that broke, which may not protect the occupant in event of an accident.

The contact owns a 1995 gmc jimmy.the contact was experiencing issues with the abs on her vehicle and the brakes failed.the brake fluid was nearly obsolete.she placed more fluid in the vehicle and it appeared to quickly evaporate.she took the vehicle to a mechanic and was informed that the failure was with the abs.the contact advised her to call the dealer.she took the vehicle to a dealer and they explained the issue.the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id numbers 99i006000 and 99v193000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock).another dealer confirmed that that vin was not included in the recall.the manufacturer stated that they could not assist.the current mileage was approximately 130,000 and failure mileage was approximately 129,700.

This is the third full brake failure for this vehicle. The first two were reported to have been fixed by dealer and has been brought in for alll recalls.

I have done a lot of research on this problem, and the faulty design of the egr valve system on this motor, leads to senseless frequent need to be removed and cleaned due to carbon chunks causing the valve to stick open (about every 500 miles). When this occurs (without warning)the brake system almost completely fails, (albeit at low speeds), and we have the added danger of having to frequently repair this problem on the side of the road, (amidst traffic), or be subject to monthly towing and repair bills.this is a rediculous problem, and i beleive that a fix for this problem should be devised by gm, and applied to all gm vehicles that have the vortec 4.3 v6 engine, and electronic egr valve.

Vehicle campaign nos. 96070 and 99041 were serviced in august, 2000. Immediately after this the brake fuse began to blow every time the brakes were applied moderate to hard. Easy brake application does not blow the fuse. The brakes are all good, fluid is full, all wiring has been inspected for possible damage, wheel sensors are functioning, and nothing else happened to the vehicle since the campaign was performed. The dealer says that the problem is unrelated to the campaign, but i disagree. Mechanically, everything checks out fine and in all probability i think that the problem lies in the computer system, which was modified during the campaign. The problem did not exist until right after the campaign was performed. I do not think that i should have to pay to have this problem fixed because it started after the campaign was performed and in all probability as a result of it. 10 days ago my 1995 gmc jimmy did not stop,it skidded.i have, on many occasions, called gmc regarding the abs braking system, it did not work all the time and when it didn't it would make a grinding noise and take a longer time to stop.gmc had assured me and my husband that there were no recalls on the system.on july 15 we were traveling on a local road and the car in front of us stopped short.we were going 20-25 mph and hit the brakes, but the brakes again failed, although we had sufficient time to stop, we skidded into the car in front of us and there was property damage and i hurt my neck and back.on the day after the accident we called gmc again regarding the failure of the brakes and were told there was no recall, and they couldn't do anything.today, july 26, we received a copy of the recall from a friend who owns a auto repair station.gmc was supposed to have contacted people in 1999.we were never contacted.y husband was a professional truck driver for 30 years and has not had an accident until now.our insurance rates will go up and this is the fault of gmc.

When the valve sticks open vacuum is lost which causes sudden loss of the power brakes.this has occured 3 times. They will only repair or replace the value which is the result but not the cause. I would like two things: 1) a new notice to all owners about the break loss and 2) a correction of the problem ( which i.'m told requires the intake manafold to be removed & cleaned.

Both outside mirrors have fallen off before 90k miles.this was due to the plastic deteriorating at the junction where the mirror "folds away."replaced egr valve several times.the first three were under warranty, the rest have been on me.in addition, most major fuel system components have been replaced, or repaired.the idle has always been rough, and it will on occasion, smoke and omit strong odors of unburned fuel.wipers failed at 20k miles.i resoldered the circuit board to correct the problem.drivers seat will not stay in a locked position, which causes me some concern.by the way, the first week i had the car (bought it new), the seat would not stay locked.took it to the dealer, and was promptly told that "it is a normal condition."hmmm, as a design engineer i have to wonder about the logic behind this; as any forward or rearward impact would allow the seat to flex which could make a minor non-injury accident something far worse.the water pump has been replaced three times, alternator twice, battery five.all parts were replaced with original parts through gm.i have had all brake components replaced three times, and still there is a painful chatter of the pedal under certain conditions, which is outside the abs parameters.wind noise is quite loud, as the fit of the drivers side door is, for lack of a better word, terrible.the plastic which covers the a/c within the engine compartment has deteriorated to the point where it has broken and fallen away, piece by piece, sometimes lodging itself on the exhaust manifold, causing some rather unpleasant odors.oh, and since there is no longer any covering over the a/c, it goes without saying that the coldness, which was the saving grace of this vehicle, has been reduced to that of a glorified fan.

Excessive rust was found on frames/ gas & fuel lines and doors. Taken vehicle to dealership & mechanic could give no indication of reason for severe rusting.

The front wheel a frame is not welded to the main frame .tt consumer states while backing out of his garage one morning, he discovered the right front wheel was rocking in and out, tipping 20 to 30 it seemed, the dealer found that the a frame was only tack welded to the main frame and had completely separated, there were also non conforming parts in this area also although consumer does not know the details, after 6 weeks of talking to manufacturer they re-purchased the vehicle.

Replaced original vehicle tires with ones bought at mills fleet farm in oshkosh, wi. Had the tires on the vehicle for almost 2 years, with low mileagae put on them. Took the vehicle to my mechanic for a check up, and he discovered that the tires are starting to separate at the tread and tire wall. He stated that this was one of the problems that firestone has with its recall tires. I have had other tires last longer and never before saw this happen to a tire. Thank you for your time.

I complained to two gm dealers in my area that the plastic housing shroud on the firewall that encapusulates the ac/heater core and seals against the firewall was crumbling and falling apart.what was once a hard plastic compound is now a pile of disintegrated pieces scattered about.without this shield, toxic gases are allowed to flow into the passenger compartment.i've gotten headaches and become drowsy and sick on hot days i have to keep the windows up with the ac on.dealer technicians said they had never seen failure like this before and it would be difficult and expensive to replace.this was first noticed early in 2000.today it is almost entirely gone.i use simple calk to try and prevent fumes from coming into the interior.unfortunately, calk hardens with the heat of the engine so close, and fails to effectively seal very well.

For the past several years the engine stops running without warning and will not start for several hours. The gas system has been replaced, new coil and distributor, oil, and still it stops. I have talked to others who have had the same problem and had to park their jimmy due to the unsafe nature of the problem, the jimmy has been to 3 dealers who charged a lot of money but never fixed the problem.

Mechanic stated "appears that a part internal to the engine fell off." "can't tell what fell off or why the speed of the vehicle went out of control without taking the engine apart." gm refuses to investigate and will not pay for the cost of the tow, the inspection ($140) or to replace the engine because the vehicle is out of warranty.gm dismissed the complaint with no investigation. Had vehicle towed to ron's auto repair,4512 broadview road, cleveland, oh (216) 741-9787 where used engine will be put in on 11/28.gm will put in a rebuilt engine in (36 month warranty) for $5,800.very concerned that the vehicle will not be safe to drive and that problem may reoccur.

Injuries included severe lacerations from broken glass, contusions, seat belt burn @ neck (seat belts non-adjustable), and abrasions. Manufacturer has been contacted (072299).
