On gm products, they come with an "auto" setting for lights.this auto setting would make one assume they have lights on when needed.the fact is during the day when you have rain, fog etc. When you have to use wipers and have limited visiion, only the front lights come one.no taillights!this is unsafe.there should be an override connected to the wipers so when they are in use your complete light system comes on, not just the "daytime" running lights in front.gives people a false sense of security and leaves them less visible during foul weather.
General motors "perimeter lighting", where the reverse lights stay on after vehicle's engine is shut off or when the owner unlocks the vehicle, does not enhance safety. Instead, it causes a great deal of fear, confusion and anxiety in other drivers, who believe the vehicle is about to drive into their path. Illumination of reverse ("back up") lights should be restricted only to when the vehicle is actually moving rearward and nothing else. This design only agitates the surrounding motoring and pedestrian public. As a veteran police officer, i have never seen a more idiotic use of vehicle lighting. The federal government should do the public a favor and prohibit such a design.
Certain gm vehicles with late model production have reverse lights that light up when the car is not in fact in reverse.this creates a hazard by causing drivers to wait, or yield to a car that has no intention of backing up, and will cause even more disregard for these important safety features as they are looked at as simply nuisances.i believe that using the reverse lights for anything other than indicating that the vehicle is about to back up is dangerous, misleading, and an invitation to disaster for disregarding the purpose of these lights.
I am filing a complaint over blinding headlights, some cars and trucks have headlights so strong that it is difficult to concentrate on my own driving, and it is dangerous.thank you.

Many vehicles have the automatic daytime running lights.i applaud this feature, however, these features only light the headlights.the tail lights are not lit.while driving along a foggy interstate 79, i witnessed several cars without tail lights, only to find they had headlights on.this may have contributed to the accident in maryland.perhaps these drivers were un-aware of this safety shortfall on their vehicles.i witnessed this on several gmc vehicles as well as toyotas.thank you for your consideration.
