I have owned a gmc all my adult life.this envoy has been nothing but problems ....now the gauges seem to be all screwed up and after reading post from online..i will need to put more time and more money into this suv.nothing like driving late at night worried about what's happening now.i go from sitting at a red light and my car losing pressure and turning off, to now every time i get into it and leave my house i hear the door bell and all my panels symbols flash and shows no gas to no battery life.. I am not pleased and will never purchase a gm again..so sad.

Rainy conditions... Slick conditions.skidded while traveling 20-25 mph... Skidded over the left side of median, corrected and couldn't regain control.>abs brakes failed (abs light on during end of skid into crash).car landed in ditched, 90 degrees onto passenger side.total loss to car.slight injury to driver.>airbags never deployed upon rollover to passenger side.

My gmc envoy is not a year old....bought may 2004.and sometimes the brakes do not work.as i am approaching the traffic stop and i step on the brakes..my vehicle is not stopping until i get very close to traffic.i do not feel safe in my vehicle but its my only liable transportation.i tried taking it to my dealer, but they can not find anything wrong.they just advised me that the abs is doing it's job.i think that if the abs is doing its job, the vehicle would stop right away, not went i'm near killing myself and others!!!my dealer says that i should trade it in, but i owe alot on this vehicle already!!!what else can i do?i had 3 incidents already.the last incident date is recorded below.i also had other things happen to my vehicle as well, such as trottling noise in the engine and once the vehicle completely stop and there was major noise from the engine.the check engine message also lights up every one in a while.i feel that my dealer which is called performance of farmington new mexico, are waiting until my warranty ends or until i have a vehicle accident.i need some help.

Rear air compressor bags are faulty....from what i understand this is happening to many gmc envoys and need to be recalled!!!

Car slid into right guardrail and then slid to left in ditch on expressway. The airbags did not deploy. Impact was significant enough to bend the front passenger corner of frame. The frame is also cracked underneath the middle of vehicle as result of crash. Car is no longer driveable. Driver suffered whiplash.

The contact owned a 2004 gmc envoy. While driving 50 mph, the contact drove through a red light and was impacted by another vehicle on the driver side. The air bags failed to deploy. Going down the road to work my airbag light comes on and wont go off and now i cant get a inspection sticker there was no reason for my light to come on unless there is something wrong with vehicle!!

I had an accident on a major highway due to weather conditions. I ended up spinning the vehicle around while in the travel lane and hit the car in the passing lane. My airbags never deployed. Although no one was injured thankfully. I wondered why the airbags didn't go off. Should i be worried? has anyone made this same complaint? thank you.

2004 gmc envoy developed the following problems: vehicle stalled, turn signals stopped working, blower fan stopped working, and the srs light remains lit.*mrthe turn siganls stopped working due to a short in the flasher. The powertrain control module was replaced due to the ses light iluminating. The blower motor fan failed 4 times due to a short inthe wires and control head. The vehicle overheated, but the problem could not be diagnosed. The lcd displays, knobs become extremly hot after hours of driving.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While the vehicle was parked, the tailgate latch and motor failed. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the tailgate motor failed and needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that the air compressor failed to inflate the air bags evenly. While traveling down i-95 at appx. 60mph the car in front of me stopped short.i slammed into the back of it.my airbags did not deploy, nor did onstar call to check on me (so much for believing in those ads!)the entire front end needs to be replaced.fluids were spilling from the vehicle.2 witnesses are capitol hill police officers who were shocked that the airbags did not deploy.the seatbelt did restrain me causing irritation at that site.my back, neck and head were aching.i was checked out by the er.

Was driving down the road and the repair safety air bag light came on and is still on

The abs light stayed on after the fact i had the breaks serviced a few years ago. The airbag light has been on for about a year. Now my break light stopped working, i replaced the fuse and still not working and now the headlamps stopped working. They only work on high beam.

The seat belt was always on so i have to replace the both impactor sensor.

The entire front of the vehicle was smashed in including the frame.the back axel dropped after the collision and both rims on the back tires were shattered. The front rims were also cracked. The dealer and manufacturer had not been contacted yet. The failure mileage was 180,000.

Avoiding to hit an upcoming vehicle in a curve, i lost control of my gmc envoy suv 2004 and hit a concrete driveway and stopped with an electrical utility post front side.the airbags did not deploy causing myself to hit the steering wheel and injured my neck, my head, lower back, knees and left arm. The insurance company told me that if the air bags would deployed they would declared my vehicle total loss due to the extensive damage. I told them i don't want my vehicle repaired if the air bags are not changed.i intend to go against gmc legally.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy slt. The contact stated that the passenger air bagand seat belt warning lightilluminated while the seat was unoccupied. The warning light remained illuminated even after the seat became occupied and the failure would first recur intermittently until the failure became constant. I was traveling northbound on rt 251 from peru to mendota il when it began raining and hailing very hard.251 is full of pot holes.i was traveling about 40 m.p.h. I hit a pot hole and my car started to hydroplan.i went into the southbound lane and then into ditch head on....i hit the ditches wall almost head on and my airbags did not come out.

Right after purchasing. Engine light has been on. Purchased in june/2006, with 40,000miles. 1yr after the rpm gauge quit working, right afterwards, the fuel gauge started messing up, going back & forth, then went out completely, battery/oil gauges are out now. The seat belt lights/airbag lights bing constantly & does not tighten up when put on brakes. When this happens the check gauges light comes on, and at the same time i have difficulty getting it in gear. I am also having trouble setting my cruise control.

In route to work driving my 2004 gmc envoy i was involved in what i would considered a head on collision with a telephone pole. The impact was great enough to spilt the pole in two, top half just missing the roof of the vehicle . Upon impact the airbags did not deploy nor did my seat belts lock me in causing me to fly forward hitting my head on the steering wheel,i had to be extracted from vehicle by fire department and transported to er. I now have permanent scar approximately 5 inchesin length across myforehead. I fileda complaint with gmc later to be informed that after their investigation they concluded that since the passenger side took the greater of the impact the impact was not great enough to warrant airbag deployment. Please note that drivers nor passenger side airbag deployed.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While driving 65 mph in snowy conditions, he attempted to pass a vehicle and while returning back into the lane the vehicle slid and he crashed into a concrete barrier front-end first. The frontal air bags did not deploy at the time of the crash. The contact did not suffer any injuries. The police arrived shortly after and a police report was filed.the failure and current mileages were under 97,000.

I began experiencing problems with the instrument panel on my 2004 gmc envoy a few months ago.the entire panel would go out and all the gauges bottomed out.i could not tellmy speed, gas level, rpms, etc.the panel would stay out for a few days then return to normal.also on occasion the speedometer would stick at 60 mph and only correct itself if i pulled over and turned the truck off then back on.finally, about two weeks ago the entire instrument panel went out and has never come back on.i have dropped it off at the dealership for service and am awaiting their response.this problem has caused me to run out of gas twice because i was unable to judge my fuel level.luckily both times i was in an area with easy access to the shoulder of the road.i currently have approximately 55,000 miles on my truck. (i can't be sure of this, however, since the odometer is a part of the panel that is out.)this is a serious and, according to my research, recurring problem the gmc should be forced to correct and pay for.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While driving approximately 30 mph the speedometer stopped functioning and displayed zero. Theoil gauge also stopped functioning beyond the eighty pressure mark and stayed in that position. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and checked the oil. The contact did not notice a problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated that the cluster panel needed to be repaired. The speedometer increased intermittently but it did not display the correct mileage. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

The abs light stayed on after the fact i had the breaks serviced a few years ago. The airbag light has been on for about a year. Now my break light stopped working, i replaced the fuse and still not working and now the headlamps stopped working. They only work on high beam.

The problem from what i can tell from researching is the instrument cluster and i have found many forums on the net that people are stating the same issues i am having.the speedometer gets stuck anywhere from 0-120 mph and though i have noticed that no fires or deaths have occurred is this what the nhtsa waiting for?someone to die from this happening?also, the tachometer, oil pressure gauge, and voltage indicator have recently been having issues as well.the issue with this is obviously not knowing how fast you are traveling (ie m.p.h.).i am being told this will be a $450 fix when in fact with as many people as i am reading are having these same issues it seems that gmc should be made to correct the problem themselves.is it because the government has so much invested in gmc that the problem is not being resolved?how many people need to file a complaint before the nhtsa will react?do i need to start posting to all the forums i encounter and get people to sign up?if i am the 55th person with just the '04 gmc envoy complaining about this issue then all the other years and models of gm and chevyfrom '02 through at least '06 must filing complaints, too.in total there must be enough to at least look into the matter so why are you stalling?a person not knowing how fast they are driving must be a safety issue especially through school zones and residential areas would you not agree?for us the issue started about a year-and-a-half ago and seems to be getting worse by the week.we may go a day without any incident then it starts happening all over again; it use to be that is would start only on the freeway but now it happens even around town.i will wait for a response from the nhtsa before getting this repaired, but i thought i would have received something about this by now being that i have been seeing info on the net about it for some time now, but i figure i need to get involved before anything is going to change.please respond immediately.

Instrument cluster. Speed odometer and tach not accurate. I have had 2 speeding tickets because i don't know how fast i am going. Not sure of the date it first happened but it is getting worse. Gm dealer in my area was rude to my wife and said they will not cover it.

I bought my gmc envoy in january 2004 for approx. $42,000.this car has everything. After about 2 months of the purchase, my gps went out and had been fixed twice.my brakes do not always work --sometimes they slip especially when i need them most -which is scary.gmc said that they have heard about this problem before, but did nothing to resolve the problem.the engine stalls periodically.gmc said they do not know why.the gas gauge and odometer do not work properly.when i brought my vehicle into north county gmc dealership in san diego for repairs i mentioned my gas gauge did not work along with many of the other issues.after they repaired the odometer by replacing the cluster, the gas gauge still did not work.every single time these problems happen i am forced to pay a $100 service charge just so they can look at it and because i am in sales, i am also forced to get a rental car.after all this, i am still quite displeased with gmc.i hate to say it but they are supposed to be the best american car ??professional grade?? and if this is true i will never buy an american vehicle again.gmc said they would be checking on all these problems and every single time i picked my envoy up after they supposedly fixed the problems, i found several issues still unresolved.they suggest i need to set another meeting to bring my envoy in and of course will cost another $100.

I have a 2004 envoy sle 4x4 and i have been have the problem of it stalling and it won't start do to ignition problem.i called gm and they said that people have to call in so they could look into this problem that us people are have with the ignition and stalling at lights or just driving and will not start in driveway..please call in 1-800-263-3777 and tell them that your have ignition problems also, this is the only way that we can get something done so please call[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

This is a safety issue in terms of being able to read the instrumentation behind the steering wheel. It is also a fire hazard.

Fuel gauge varies wildly from empty to full . Bad place to run out of gas on i, 95 in the fast lane.

Parked the vehicle in a parking garage so i know the lights were working when we went in.as we were leaving approximately 3 hours later, the low beams would not come on at all.had to run high beams; had several people look at the fuses, replaced bulbs, etc. But they could not find the problem.a couple of weeks later just before i was taking it to a dealer to look at the problem the low beams began working again.approximately two months later the exact same thing happened only this time i heard a faint noise from the engine compartment and smelled a burning (seemed electrical) aroma for a few seconds when i realized the low-beam lights were not working again.after a week or so the lights came back on again.

I was in the highway tail lights weren't working in was headed to idaho due to that im still in north dakota also like a month ago i was pulled over in the city for no back lights it's happen 4 or 5 times two on a 15 hour road trip.tailgate has open twice once in city and on highway now it doesn't shut at all its been like that for 5 months now and it started to not want to open or close the roof part as well it sound as if its jam.i worry about my safety and public as well. Just paid over 2400.00 for rebuilding trany, power steering, and my gear shift as well it would not shift it snap off.transmission went out 6 hours before i got to my destination.it was towed to a trany shop around nov.12/2015 picked up feb.23/2016 hoping they would fix all the rest of defects it has. You name it this envoy has it or has had it from headlights bulb being replaced every so often and melting were light bulb goes, a/c and heater don't work properly driver side is hot and passenger cold or vice-versa. The passenger back sit i would not know.midwindow doesn't work it doesn't roll up or down or that latch that comes down to haul stuff as well it doesn't work. When i roll my power windows my headlight and engine idle powers goes down as if there is an electrical problem.i've invested on this envoy a week later when i drove it out of the yard. I have all my receiptsfrom professional mechanics.its been a bad experience.i hope my trany doesn't go out after i'm done fix all this other problems. I read after someone had rebuild the trany 13 months later he had the same problem again with his envoy. It's not safe to operate a vehicle with so many issues especialy with no back lights going from good to not working.every time i have to be checking if i have my rear lights are working or in front and also my front low light i have no visibility what so ever.they are so dull.

During normal highway driving, the instrumentation panel needle gauges began to malfunction.the speedometer initially registered significantly higher than actual speeds (registered 110+ mph when traveling at ~65 mph) and then stuck at 15 mph regardless of actual speed or when at a complete stop.the tachometer also began to register higher than actual rpm, showing 6,000+ rpm even when the vehicles engine was returned to idle or turned off.other gauge malfunctions include the oil pressure gauge which would also intermittently register higher than actual pressure.without either a functioning speedometer or tachometer, it is very difficult to estimate actual vehicle speeds and maintain a safe driving speeds.have contacted a local gmc dealer regarding this issue and have not yet identified a remedy.

This past month the speedometer set at 40 mph with car in "park" position. Afterward when driving, my actual speed had 40mph added to the reading. This has occurred three times so far in october 2008.

Nothing descriptive led up to the failure.it happened for no reason we know.the problem is consistent and a new one started today.the problem has not been diagnosed or fixed.i found several similar issues on internet for same model and year vehicle today after being notified by wife that another area of same device has malfunctioned.

The speedometer on my 2004 envoy has been inaccurate at least 5 times in the last 9 months.i noticed that this problem arises when there is a spike or dip in temperature outdoors.for over 24 hours the speedometer was stuck at 120 mph.the speedometer corrects itself over the course of 4 or 5 days depending on how many starts and stops i make around town.i see that gm isn't going to claim any responsibility on this matter so i just pay very close attention to my speedometer when driving and stay in the slow lane.can't afford to pay the big bucks for their mistake.

Speedometer malfuctions.

Vehicle is stuck in park, on the dash board it show the vehicle in reverse. Instrument cluster is not working properly, tach gauge not reading correctly. Temperature gauge does not work at all. Forward air vents do not work all.

Lock completely out of back hatch wire acts as if it has a short which shuts the whole back down i am unable to use my rear wiper at all interfere with my steroe shutting of when u turn off envoy when it shouldn't have been locked completely out of the rear bottom and the glass hatch i do not use my hatch now because i don't want to be locked out again it has happen twice and this not under warranty have seen othe complaints online due to same issues has there been a recall on this i have only had this envoy for 4 months and to be honest i think it messes with the air i have duel air and the passenger side gets colder quicker than the driver and never seemed to do this untill the wires g started messing up in the rear.

1. 2004 gmc envoy instrument cluster panel intermittently malfunctioning on and off. 2. Ongoing since october 2008.all gauges in the instrument panel will suddenly stop/start functioning for varying lengths of time. The consequence is that the driver is unable to determine driving speed, gas fuel level, and battery status leading to obvious and potentially serious safety concerns.3. Owner currently seeking financial relief from gmc and us government for recall to have faulty instrument panel replaced at no cost to consumer.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the vehicle's electrical system stopped the vehicle from starting. There were unknown warning indicators illuminated at the time of the failure. The vehicle was towed multiple times due to failing to start. An independent mechanic stated that there was a cable disconnected, but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure occurred again and the vehicle was taken to jessup auto plaza (68-111 e palm canyon dr, cathedral city, ca 92234, (760) 328-9999). The technician was unable to locate a failure and the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure occurred again. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 72,338.

The "check gauges" light flashes followed by "low oil pressure" followed by "stop engine" and the engine stalls.each time this happens the ac has been on. Sent to dealer and they were unable to reproduce this issue. Has happened 3 times now. Very scary.

Speedometer was on 80mps everytime i started the car, i would turn the motor off sever times to bring it down about 5mps, until that quite working completely. My sister-in-law had the same problem with hers at the same time i did. Well, i went to get my fixed they said it wasn't covered under a warrenty and the cost was high at the time so i had to barrow a gps system to use to clock my speed. Then the gas gauge went out. Would have to wait until my gas light came on to let me know when i was running lowand when i would put gas in my car, i would have to try and start it 3-4 times before it would start.my car is in the shop today, and after alot of research i notice alot of people have the same problem, and gmc does not want to take no credit for their error.

One day all my gauges may work i might shut the suv off and start it again and no gauges will work (speed, oil pressure, battery, gas, odometer, tach) when one works they all work when one doesn't work none of them work and you never know when they will do what they do.

Headlights, driving lights and all interior lighting dim and flicker approx every 30 seconds. Has been this way for over 10 days, dealer cannot diagnose problem until the "service engine soon" light comes on, which it hasn't. It is nearly impossible to drive at night with dim, flashing, headlights, and is confusing to other drivers. Also, a fan can be heard blowing off & on approx once every minute, and this is with the vehicle completely turned off and the key out of the ignition. This is constant, i'm concerned the battery will be dead and the car won't start, or that the lights will completely go out while i am driving at night. Rear passenger door locks suddenly stopped working with the remote and the door unlock switch on the driver's door. I have to climb over the front seat into the back to physically unlock the door to remove my children from the car.

I have had an overwhelming smell of gasoline for weeks and my speedometer was only working intermittently. I took my car to an auto store and had them put it on the computerthe code read small evap leak so i bought a new gas cap to attempt to resolve the issue. That didn't work so i took my car to the mechanic for it to be checked out as my check engine light came back on. On the first visit he scanned the computer and codes read po 442 & 445 ? small/large emission leak, he checked all components and could find nothing. I took my car back as the speedometer issue was getting worse and the gas smell was still present the same code came up for the emission/evap leak and still nothing for the speedometer issue. He then did a smoke test and found that there was a crack in the filler neck of the plastic gas tank that cannot be repaired and must be replaced. He replaced the speedometer sender which still did not fix the issue. After much research i have found both of these issues to be a serious problem with other envoy owners. I would like to know why there has not been a recall on these parts and why gmc is leaving the cost of repairs up to the owners. These are manufacture??s defects. This is supposed to be a reputable company. I have called into gmc support and they as well as staff at a gmc dealership stated that this was the same issue as was stated in a recall but my vin number wasn't included so no financial help was given. $1,215.29 later i have a new gas tank and my speedometer still does not work. This is ridiculous... Take ownership for your product malfunctions!!! how many complaints does there need to be before a recall is issued on these vehicle issues?

Instrument panel cluster issues in 2004 gmc envoy,. Headlights and instrument panel lights flicker dim to bright. Occurs while driving down the road very sporadic. Diagnostic stated faulty instrument panel cluster. Issue if not fixed, the vehicle could stall when driving and lose power. Mine has started loosing power and stalling. Faulty speedometer inaccurate, will go past 120mph or stay on zero, why no recall on these items gm is aware of this but as of today no action has been taken.

Stopped at street like, light went green started to move forward and car goes dead.no lights on dash, nothing showing, just stops abruptly.after a few moments tried restarting car and it came back on with check engine light.p0606 pcm failure code displayed.could have been rear ended by semi truck behind me or killed if i was trying to turn left at intersection.

Dt*:the contact stated while exiting the off-ramp of the highway at 20-25mph, the check engine and reduced power light illuminated and there was a loss of all vehicle power.although the engine restarted after several attempts, the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.the dealer determined the accelerator sensor needed to be replaced.afterwards, the loss of power persisted and the accelerator sensor was again replaced by the dealer as well as the computer.additionally, the horn intermittently worked, but the horn was not inspected.

My 2004 gmc envoy mph and rpm gauges are not working properly, i called the dealership and an extended warranty was put on all gmc/chevy trucks and suv for the dashboard cluster except for the envoy, any newer models.the part is at least 500 and advised can only be done by dealership due to programming. Im furious, my truck is only at about 53,000 miles.this defect needs to be under recall for the envoy asap!

I have been experiencing headlights, interior lights, lighting in the dash, and other lighting flicker while driving. It appears to be happening more and more. The lights become very dim and then get bright again in a matter of a few seconds. This is getting to be dangerous as people tend to pull over in front of me and sometimes traffic in going in the opposite direction coming towards me will pull of the road all thinking that i am flashing them either due to an emergency or just some wild driver behind the wheel.i had taken my vehicle to the dealer but he states he can not find anything wrong. Of course he also stated they took it for a ride but it does not happen for them. I guess not, it is hard to see lights flickering in the sunshine.

Driving at slow speed and noticed speedometer was reading incorrectly--much higher than actual. Vehicle driven several times since, with continued incorrect speed rating. All original equipment at 68,000 miles with no previous repair noted.

The mph and rpm gauges not working. I can be sitting at a stop light and it shows my 2004envoy is going 70 mph. Also the rpm gauge will say 0 rpms when i am going at any speed. We have repeatedly disconnected the positive cable to reset the gauges. I am afraid i will get pulled over because i have no idea what speed i am going. Has anyone else had this problem?

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the speedometer failed to function. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Speedometer does not work accurately.check engine light came on randomly. Is currently out and i was able to pass emissions, hopefully it will remain out.had to replace many parts including the heater core, thermostat and coolant.now i am experiencing a problem with the fan of the car.

I have been reading many of these post. I can't believe all of the things that have also happened to my envoy. Ihave had my back window blow out while driving, thank god that both of my kids that were in the back seat were not hurt, they were just scared and still ask if it will happen again. I also recently just had to have a piece on the gas line fixed which was almost $900.00 money that i didn't have and had to borrow. I am still paying it back. Now as for last night my low beams are not working, i bought new bulbs and that didn't work, so it is back to the mechanic. Oh and i have a check engine light that goes on and off. They really need to get on all of these things. It would be nice to have the car working the way it should be. I may just print these things up and bring to the gmc shop and see what the can do about it. I mean i really to love my suv but this is crazy. I am now kind of scared to have my kids in the car.

Speedometer begin sticking above zero when car was turned off. Gradually, the speedo stuck higher and higher, until it remained pegged and ceased to function. Soon after, all instruments in the panel successive failed - including fuel gauge, tachometer, oil pressure, and battery level... It appears to be at this point a complete failure of the instrument cluster. Most worrisome, the speedometer and the fuel gauge read incorrectly at alltimes, if they read at all.

Speedometerwas kinda sticking/jumpy but now staying around 85 to 120.

When traveling down the road and putting on the brakes the headlights and dash lights flicker. The flickering is so much that is looks like we are flashing other cars.

Nothing but this has been nothing but trouble since i bought for that dealership. Guy from todd wenzel grand rapids michigan. I had just back into the shop several times they will not do anything about it she's just used to going ever since i bought this car and your is something wrong with the engine itself it cuts out car smells like something burning i do not feel safe in this car and i still owe on it i like to report todd wenzel buick to the better business bureau they're lousy people thank you also sent all this information gmc and have not got anywhere

First my speedometer stopped registering a speed followed by the gas gauge going out.my radio goes in and out (more out than in), my sunroof started opening and closing on its own when turning the car on and off, and the roof leaks around where the visor is when it rains hard.i have seen many other consumers with these same problems and would really like to have these problems addressed by someone at gmc.

2004 gmc envoy instrument panel cluster suddenly started not working.it hasn't worked properly since it happened and reads incorrect speed, oil pressure, and fuel levels.nothing has been done to correct the failure by the dealer.

Starting shortly after envoy was bought i noticed that the fuel gauge would show quarter tank one, then after shutting off and starting again it was out of fuel and the light was on. In july 2011 the oil pressure gauge went high and it is now pegged and doesn't reset. I asked dealer about it and there was an outrageous price just to diagnose. Jan 2012 and now speedometer gauge does not reset, it is stuck at 30 mph and goes up to 85-90 when driving. After researching today i see a service bulletin about the instrument cluster, i never received the instrument cluster letter from gm, because envoy wasn't included, but it is the same issues as other vehicle on the service bulletin. Please hold gm responsible for these defects.

Front passenger seat caught on fire from the seat heater. The vehicle parked and turned off. It was parked in a high school parking lot while my daughter was in school. We contacted gmc, but they said it there was nothing they could do. There was something that went wrong for it to just catch fire. Can you help us in anyway at all.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy in which the speedometer has stopped working. I researched this on the internet and it is a common occurrence. I almost caused a wreck because the speedometer said i was going faster than i really was and the cars behind me almost ran into me. This is a safety issue that i feel should be investigated. Could you please assist w any recall measures. It costs over 500.00 to replace this.

I own a 2004 envoy.i had taken the vehicle in for service previously for electrical issues.the headlight and interior lights would constantly flicker as you drove.the drivers door also locked itself when exiting the vehicle.the problems were intermittent, happening about 3 to 4 times a month.since the problems persisted, i again took the vehicle for service.another electrical problem had arisen also.the horn, at times, would not work.again this was an intermittent problem.the dealer said they could not locate the problem unless it was occurring when they had they were checking it.i called gm customer assistance to file a complaint.they then talked with the dealer.the car was kept for several more days and returned with the diagnosis that the problem could not be located since it was not occurring when they had the vehicle.they did note that the horn had quit working and then started working again while they had the vehicle but were still unable to diagnose and correct.i contacted gm customer assistance and was informed them i considered these problems a safety issue, since i was unsure if the flickering condition in the lights might cause them to go out while driving, and the fact the horn may or may not work when needed.i was informed there was nothing else they could do unless the problem became consistent.

Dashboard and gauges kept malfunction speed odometer reading incorrect had to replace also rear door burned out very costs very high.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.the contact stated that the gauges on the instrument panel to include the fuel and the speedometer were not responding.the dealer diagnosed the failure and determined that the instrument cluster would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 65,300 and the current mileage was 65,600.updated 07/12/11updated 3/22/12

I have been having an intermittent issue with my speedometer not showing the correct speed for the past couple of years and has been getting worse for quite some time.it has now reached a point to where the speedometer does not work, oil pressure gauge does not work, engine light stays one and the tach only works once in a while.i actually know three people within the my place of employment that have the same vehicle ranging from a 2003 to a 2005 that have the exact same issues with their instrument panels.of course, the dealership says that there is no recall related to this issue but they would be happy to replace the ip (almost $700) to see if that corrects the issue.i also know of a couple of different websites where you can send the panel off and they will replace all of the bulbs and motors for less $100.it is a shame that gm would charge over 7 times that amount for an issue that is this wide spread.i have driven gm model cars for over 20 years and the engines seem to be good but the interior issues are at a point that i am tired of dealing with them.i guess that it is time to look to take me business to a different car manufacturer and that is a shame.

While driving another motorist saw smoke coming from rear of vehicle and got vehicle stopped on side of road at which time the engine compartment was engulfed in flames.called fire dept and police. Fire spread through the hearer box into the vehicle and across dash until it began burning the headliner. Fire dept put out fire but was a total loss. There was no indication on instrument panel of any problems (all gauges showing normal readings).

My 2004 gmc envoy slt cluster gauge; speedometer, gas gauge, and oil pressure gauge have stopped working.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would display an empty reading after refueling. In addition, all of the other gauges on the instrument panel failed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the dealer stated that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

The speedometer gradually decreased from interstate speed (70mph) to 0 mph while driving. Speedometer fails to operate. I personally know 2 people who have had this happen on a 2004 envoy.

Ac plug to fan motor burnt/melt,daylight/headlightconnectors melted multiple times had them replaced 3 times each side... Cluster/ radio/ac lights burning out lights out on different areasfrom illumination to gages to radio and ac control button lights head lights went out while driving so did cluster, radio and ac lightshad the cluster replaced by dealer while under warranty back in 2013 over cluster shortening, had my radio replaced as well by dealer same time

Speedometer stopped working.

Cluster want power up properly at start up. Warning lights give false information. And now radio sometimes want play correctly. Ac fan want work on all speeds also at times. I looked up recalls and there was one 03v096000 but it did not cover my year. You can get different displays giving bad information on every start up.

Defective envoy speedometer.

Envoy xuv 2004 oil pressure stalled 80 or higher. Gm has a tsb regarding issues with the clusters #07187, but they are not accepting that the envoy also has the same problems. Dealers want to charge around $500 to $1000 to fix this problem which they know is happening on many models.

This vehicle has and had major electrical issues since new. Instrument cluster replaced at my expense at 75000 miles. Now door locks intermittent. Won't open or lock by remote. Rear wiper goes out when door locks stop. Rear door lock out also. Can lock doors from inside and manually lock driver door but rear hatch will stay unlocked. This is a safety hazard especially at night at a mall or even in my driveway. Someone could enter my vehicle and hurt someone in my family when locks are out. In my driveway they could get access to my garage door opener and enter my house. I shouldn't have to remove my garage door opener everytime i enter my home. I think this is a very serious security issue for my family. I'm retired and can't afford the repair. I've seen this all over the internet but no fix from gm.

2004 gmc envoy speedometer/instrument panel failure. The speedometer sticks and now has failed. This is a recurring issue with this vehicle that has had multiple law suits filed against the manufacturer in different states. Why has it not been addressed? and even more importantly, why is my vehicle (which is known by gm to have this problem) not included in the settlement (the settlement in included other gmc, chevrolet and cadillac vehicles)? it is a huge safety issue that should have been made known to me by the manufacturer before it happened. On this site alone there are more than 52 complaints just for this vehicle. Why is it not being addressed. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While drving 20 mph the speedometer stopped working. The dealer stated that they assumed it was a part of the manufacturers recall and repaired the vehicle. The dealer confirmed after the repairs were made that the vehcle was not within the recall vin range. The dealer has billed the contact for the repairs. The failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

The temp gauge does not read correctly when the engine is running in the correct temp range. The temp needle is either in the overheating position (red area) or totally past the max temp on the gauge, almost spinning like a compass. Because of this false reading i pulled my vehicle over on the shoulder of the interstate, thinking the engine needed to cool down.this was during rush hour traffic, and could have caused an accident on the highway.a search on the internet shows others with the same problem.gmc refuses to replace or fix the gauge if vehicle mileage is over 70,000.gauges , oil, water temp, etc, are in vehicles to assist the driver with their driving and for safety reasons and should last a lot more than 6 years.pulling over on a highway should only be done for an emergency, not because of a false reading, and may in the future, if it has not already cause an accident.

The cruise control is intermittent.

My dash panel gauges began failing one by one. My headlights will sometimes not come on after starting the car with the headlight switch on auto. A flick of the headlight switch in and off, does not make the headlights come on.sometimes they come on after driving around, and then will go off without touching the switch. Now, my side brakelights will not operate correctly when the brake pedal is pressed.only the third brake light illuminates.

My wife has a 2004 gmc envoy, about 6:00 mar 03 2010 she called me from her truck, sayingthe odometersaid she was doing 95 mph when she was only doing about 55mph after i got her to calm down and pull over. She stop the truck and waited on me to get there. I notice the rpm's was stuck on 6000 the gas was on a 1/4 tank after she said she had put 40$ in the tank 30min ago plus the clock said 12:49 and it was like 7:00 after talking to a few people found out there was with the cluster. Was talking to my father who has a 05 gmc truck said there was a recall on the clusters.

1. I purchased a 2004 envoy. The dealer i purchased it from had it under warranty. 2 weeks after i purchased, the interior lights were coming on and off, the automatic door locks started to lock by themselves simultaneously. Non stop. It scares my children, as well as i, because i don't know if it's going to spark a fire or what. Sometimes it does it more than others, for example, when it rains, but it only does it when i roll the driver's side window up. Even if its not down and i roll it up it does it. As well as if i hit a small pot hole and sometimes it just does it on its on. I've taken it to a gmc dealer 4 or more times and they can't find the problem any where. So, nothing has been done to fix this problem because no one can find a solution. I park my $18,000 vehicle next to the road in case it does spark a fire. Please inform me if anything is available or who i need to contact at gmc to find an answer.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. Upon entering and starting the vehicle, the speedometer displayed a reading of 45 to 90 mph and the tachometer displayed a reading of 1 1/2 rpms. The contact stated that the failure occurred mostly during the winter months. The contact also stated that the battery charging alert displayed incorrectly as well as the fuel gauge. While driving various speeds, the speedometer displayed incorrectly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that malfunctioning magnets and the cluster needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the speedometer was replaced, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who informed the contact that the circuit board and instrument panel needed replacement. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

The speedometer and gas gauge in my 2004 envoy do not work. Just like everyone else here the speedometer in mine sometimes reads over 100 mph when i might be doing 35mph. Most of the time it just stays at 0 so i don't know how fast i'm going. The gas gauge just doesn't work at all. I can't afford the repair and from all the other complaints i've seen gm should fix it for free anyway. How many people have to complain before the ntsb will get behind the car owners? one person here said that gm actually won a lawsuit and wascompensated for the faulty parts but did not do the recall on the envoys!

The cluster gauge quit working.first the gas gauge stopped reading the amount of gas in the tank.second, the speedometer and tachometer quit reading.about a month later the oil pressure gauge stopped working.currently out of the entire cluster gauge system the battery meter is the only gauge that works.

My 2004 gmc envoy has developed an erratic speedometer. The speedometer reflects inaccurate speeds causing an unsafe driving condition. I contacted my local gmc dealer who researched to find no recall concerning this problem i then submitted my complaint to the bbb hotline and was rebuffed their also. I have consequently done additional research and have found that gm has issued a special coverage adjustment bulletin for 2003-2004 cadillac escalade, chevrolet avalanche, silverado, suburban and tahoe, gmc sierra and yukons. The speedometer unit in these models are very similar in both appearance and are manufactured by the same supplier gm uses. The adjust bulletin is #07187 dated september 28,2007 and covers the condition for a period of 7 years or 70,000 miles regardless of ownership. After visiting many gmc and chevrolet chat rooms it is readily apparent that this problem is very common and will eventually result in a fatal accident. I am requesting that the nhtsa formally investigate this problem before this happens.

Engine stalls when you slow down and the air conditioner or widow defogger is on .i have also had power surging. I had to replace the map sensor twice and the bracket and it is still showing bad. I also replace the cam shaft position sensor and the thermostat. Also the wiper on the rear will not spray any water or washer.

Instrument panel cluster issues. Driver 1 resets to unknown driver, abs light, seatbelt light, 4-wheel drive, etc. Lights flash on and off, battery gage fluctuates, headlights and instrument panel lights flicker dim to bright. Occurs while driving down the road very sporadic. Diagnostic stated faulty instrument panel cluster.issue if not fixed, the vehicle could stall when driving and lose power.

The speedometer on my 2004 gmc envoy with 63,000mi. On it stopped working correctly. While driving it will bury the needle past 120mph or stay on zero. After doing some research i foundthat this is not an isolated problem. Having been a truck driver for over 20 yrs. And understanding the importance and safety of speed control, i can't understand why this is not a recall.

One day my sunroof worked and the next day it would not. It was stuck in the in the open position (not fully open, but when the front end raises an inch or so). I took it to a gm certified mechanic and they said i would need a whole new assembly and quoted me $2,100. The dealership and gm notified me that they would not help me with this defect at all. My car is in excellent condition with only 85,000 miles on it, but it is only worth $5,000 and i paid over $14,000 for it in 2009 when i bought it from a gm dealership. I cannot afford to lose $2,100 on this vehicle. And this is not the first issue that i have had. When i drove it home from the dealership the whole instrument panel failed. They fixed that. Then a year later, when i was driving home with my new born, the entire car shut down while in motion going 45 miles per hour. The dealership said that it was a problem with the computer and the warranty would not cover it, but it would cover a restoration of the computer. Then when i went to get my vehicle the refused to let me take it until i paid $200. My vehicle has shut down while driving since that and can barely maintain idling at traffic lights at times. Now back to the sunroof, after not being able to afford to fix it the mechanic took out the sunroof and just set it in the frame so at least water would not get in when it rained. However, it is just sitting in there and can easily be lifted out and may even get blown out on the freeway. When exactly will this become a safety hazard? when my sunroof blows off on the freeway and causes a fatal car accident? or when my car completely shuts down on the middle of the freeway and my children and i get killed in a pile up? gm has been convicted of neglecting to recall vehicles with safety issues recently. Clearly, gm refuses to protect its customers. Please help protect consumers and do something about this.

I purchased a 2004 envoy off the showroom floor. First issue was an erratic speedometer, then non-working gas gauge, now it is all gauges.i have a picture with the car in park showing 15 mph, the digital reading shows a full tank of gas but the gauge needle is below empty and also no oil pressure or temperature.the entire cluster is faulty, not just one gauge.

Vehicle was being driven on a two way highway at approximately 55 mph.vehicle lost engine power while driving and the gas pedal lost resistance and went to the floor.vehicle was steered over to the side of the road.while the vehicle was steered over to the side of the road, check engine and other dash lights started flashing chaotically. White smoke started coming from under the hood.within a short time, white smoke turned into black smoke and then flames started to appears.the fire under the hood eventually continued to grow until it completely burned the engine compartment most of the first two rows of the interior before the firemen arrived and were able to put out the fire.

I have 2004 envoy have had problems with alternator. Started about 6 months after i bought the envoy had i replaced 3 times then started having problems with back seat window on passenger side not rolling up. Then my girlfriend had a flat on side of road and could not get spare down i had to go out and cut the cable that holds it up. That is a unsafe thing to do on side of hwy should not take 45 min to get spare down. Headlights dim and brighten gets dim enough that makes hard to see.

Speedometer on 2004 gmc envoy slt quit working.i found that this is a very common problem with gm vehicles, however they have not issued a recall for it.i feel that this could be a huge safety issue and that they are aware of it but continue to ignore complaints.knowing your speed is extremely important when driving.

On a 2004 gmc envoy, the whole odometer/speedometer went out.nothing worked and i had to get my whole instrument cluster replaced.

While driving at any speed check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remaineded on. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the computer needed to be replaced, and replaced it.however, the problem recurred.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned and as a result, it was providing an erroneous full reading when the fuel tank was actually empty. The contact also mentioned that the speedometer and temperature gauge failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.updated 09/11/12*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle has ran out of gas several times due to the failure with the gas gauge. The engine check light illuminates for no apparent reason. The consumer has also received a ticket due to the odometer reading a false speed.updated 09/13/2012

The tach on my '04 envoy with 67k miles started acting erratic and has completely failed just as all the other service bulletins . This has corrected itself buis till erratic. Gm needs to address the faulty electronic gauges on these '04 envoys.

Problem started out as erratic reading with speedometer. After approx. 5 days speedo finally wouldn't register at alltook vehicle to authorized dealer to be repaired - $555.00 charge to replace instrument panel and reprogram.called gm for financial help as i noticed there were alot of failures with gmc suv's and pick-up trucks. Gm would not acknowledge there was a problem which i feel is totally disingenuous. Speedometer is necessary to be working as a safety issue. Because i was out of state at the time of part breakdown i felt i had no choice but to have problem fixed before my return trip home (1250 miles). Judging how many other envoys have had same problem, i feel gm is dodging their responsibilityi noticed that there has been class-actions against them for the same problem.

My speedometer started going back and forth, then eventually would stick at a number.it would seem to work at one point and then go back and forth again.going through town, it shows 120 mph at most times.went to gm dealer, put new sensor on it, did not fix problem.now have ordered a new cluster.not sure if any of the other gauges work correctly.this is going to cost over $450.00 and from what i have read, hundreds of this year envoy have this same problem.our part was backordered, so that means there is a high volume requesting this same part.it should have been recalled a long time ago!!!

Speedometer stopped working.

The instrument panel cluster on my 2004 gmc envoy is defective.tachometer shows incorrect readings, gas gauge does not work, lights flicker and dim, half of the radio lighting is out.i've researched this and have found this complaint is quite common.it seems that eventually i can expect the whole instrument cluster to fail!

Speedometer has stopped working properly.most of the time it is stuck above 120 mph.it never shows the correct speed the vehicle is going.

Speedometer does not work at times. Sometimes it will just stay at "0", others it will be at various speeds even while in park.

My 2004 gmc envoy speedometer does not work.gage shows driving 120 mph when driving in the city.gets stuck on numbers and stays there for days at a time.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While traveling at 45 mph, the speedometer failed and would not read the contact's traveled speed. The vehicle was not diagnosed and there were no prior warnings. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

I own a 2004 gmc envoy and i like others have a speedometer that has failed also....and the tachometer has also failed...sometimes the speedometer shows the speed but it is not the correct one...as i was on the freeway and it showed i was going 10mph....other times it just sits on 0....

Faulty speedometer on gmc envoy 2004 slt.reads 0mph while in use or 10 mph below actual speed compared to gps.stopped working day after dealership installed new battery and 60k maintenance.

Faulty speedometer in 2004 gmc envoy, bad steeper motors in all 6 gauges. Speedometer inaccurate, will go past 120mph, will affect tach eventually, all gauges will go bad. The problem is faulty steeper motors gm was supplied these by delphi electronics. Gm won a class action suit, why no relief to envoy owners? this affects all 2003-2004 envoys, they were included in the original service bulletin then removed? why no recall on these items gm is aware of this but as of today no action has been taken.

Speedometer quit working on my 2006 gmc envoy.

The mph and rpm gauges not working. Needle would not go down to zero. Would get stuck in one mph and continue to increase from there. Was able to get it down to zero in 5mph increments by starting and shutting down the engine, but then after driving it would stick at 40 and up. Thought it was strange that my other 2004 chevy truck received a recall letter for the exact problem my gmc was having. Had to pay out of pocket to replace dash board cluster(over $500.00).i needed to know the speed i was driving. Very dangerous situation.

Speedometer on my 2004 gmv envoy behaves erratically and does not work.when starting up auto speedometer could be at zero or up to 100 or continues to not function at all.needless to say i have no ideal at exactly what speed i am traveling. I have read on the web that many others have this same complaint.i would think this should be a "safety issue" and should be reason for a recall.

The problem was first noticed in november of 2006 when i received a speeding ticket, i was not speeding according to my speedometer. The dealership said my speedometer was working properly when in fact it was not. After another stop by police, i took the truck to different dealer and i was told the same thing. I was again stopped on 7/4/2007 for speeding. I removed the gauge cluster and sent it to specmo myself for testing and specmo found the speedometer defective; wire chaffing and servo motor intermittent shorting, they repaired it.

Speedometer says i am going 70 - 110 when i am driving 30 ish and sometimes goes to zero.when i am stopped, it will show that i am going speeds (various).my lights on dashboard dims once in awhile.

Speedometer stared moving up and down with the speed of the vehicle but would have a jerky movement now the speedometer no longer resets to zero. At a full stop the speedometer will read from 40 to 70 mph and at speeds a low as 40 mph the speedometer will report speeds up to a 120 mph. This problem does not all the driver to accurately judge the speed of the vehicle. As of this complaint i have not fixed the problem but all indications from other people is that the instrument cluster will have to be replaced or reconditioned.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.the contact stated that the speedometer and fuel gauge became inoperable.the dealer estimated that the repair would cost $500 at the contact's expense.on a separate occasion, the vehicle would only shift into first and second gear and would not accelerate over 35 mph.in addition, the rpms would rev higher than normal and the vehicle would hesitate when attempting to pick up speed.the contact heard a loud humming noise under the hood when attempting to accelerate.the dealer stated that a new transmission was needed.the repair would cost over $2,000.an independent mechanic stated that he could rebuild the transmission.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 44,386 updated 07/28/09 the transmission failed at 58,000 miles. Updated 07/31/09.

Speedometer failed.at first it did not correctly reflect vehicle speed, then fluctuated rapidly over the course of several days, and finally failed completely.

Faulty dash cluster/speedometer.will read 120 mph when you are sitting still.

My speedometer stopped working.it used to either stay on 0 or go up to 90.i have been stopped several times for speeding because i can not determine my speed. Since that broke, i have also lost all of my other instruments, including gas... I ran out of gas on route 495 in the middle lane going about 60 mpg!!!thankfully i did not panic and was able to get my flashers on and move into the slow lane and then to the break down lane.i have had many people tell me this is a recall on the gmc pick up trucks but not the envoy!!!!does someone need to get killed in order to have this corrected?

Speedometer erratic; showing wrong speed almost all the time.1000s of reports of this on internet in gm and chevrolet suvs of the same type.i have 2004 envoy xl and this cost me around $600.this is a defect and needs a recall.i believe this same part is used on many of the gm and chevrolet vehicles as there are even outside businesses who now fix this problem since there have been so many cases in gms.please note that not all of the complaints are in the vehicle speed section but some are instrument panel section.there have been some recalls for some models but not my model.if it is truly the same part then why isn't my model included?

I own a 2004 gmc envoy and the speedometer has stopped working correctly.it is very erratic and goes anywhere between 10-100 miles over the speed i am traveling.i've been stopped twice for speeding and received a fine for $170.00.gms states it is not a safety issue, i disagree!when i was stopped i tried explaining to the police officer what was wrong, however he didn't want to her it.

The speedometer is sticking or not moving at all.this a very unsafe condition and should be recalled asap.

Speedometer quit working properly on friday, july 11.by monday morning, it was back to normal.

The speedometer and tachometer of the suv began to indicate incorrect readings. The speedometer works fine until we go on the highway and travel with the cruise control set between 65-70.then they will read the incorrect speed for a week or so then start working fine again. The tachometer needle just "hangs." i talked to 2 different repair shops who advised me that this is a common problem with envoy's and trailblazers.the cost to do this is over $500 or more. It appears that several other 2004 gmc envoy owners are experiencing this same problem. A recall should be in order.when i talked to the repair shops they said before they can correct the issue under my extended warranty is to see it happen.each time i had an appt set it would start working before the appt date so there is nothing they can do.very irritated that gmc doesn't address this now.

I purchased a 2004 gmc envoy with approximately 50000 miles on it in may of 2006.about 4 months later, the speedometer started acting slightly erratic, reporting speeds varying by 10-20 mph (i.e. On the highway, keeping up with traffic at 65 mph, the speedometer would report 45 mph or sometimes 80 mph.over the past few weeks, the problem has gotten much worse, with the speedometer reporting 120 mph at highways speeds, and 50 mph at a stop, sometimes not registering any speed at all (o mph).the cruise control has also stopped working, which i am assuming is related to the speedometer malfunction.i searched online, and apparently there are many other gmc owners with the same exact problem.please see link below:http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-tahoe/t2bgkbgi55eknu77c/p1this is the first gmc car i have purchased and i am dissatisfied with this safety issue.i am a pretty good guess at how fast i am going, however without an accurate speedometer i feel i am taking unnecessary chances.as a realtor, i often have clients in my vehicle and i am concerned for their safety as well.i filed a complaint with gmc, but i was referred to the dealer as there are no current recalls for this problem.the dealer says that this is a $500 fix, and i am concerned as this appears to be a manufacturer defect, based on the number of other consumers with this same issue.i never expected to have an issue this problematic with a vehicle 2 years old.i hope that by reporting this issue, the nhtsa will be able to help me and the other hundreds or thousands of consumers with this safety issue.thank you for your time.

The instrument panel cluster on my gmc envoy 2004 is defective as it is on a multitude of other gm models between 2003 and 2005. One of the consequences is that the speedometer will not work or will report a faulty reading while operating the vehicle. This is an unsafe driving condition and for some reason gm has not yet issued a recall on thisproblem for gmc envoys of the year 2004 even though other years of this model and other models of gm vehicles have been recalled for this exact issue. Please help gm do the right thing by it's envoy owners. We have certainly bailed them out enough. There is another potentially deadly consequence of this issue. If one were to be driving the vehicle at 60mph using cruise control and the speedometer were to all of a sudden peg itself to 20mph, there would be a sudden and abrupt acceleration as the computer in the car attempted to regain 60mph even though the vehicle was already at that speed. Thank you for your time and attention to this dangerous speed control issue..[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Speedometer erratic. Stays at 120mph at all speeds until vehicle is not driven. Driven again, does not work at all or is erratic showing multiple speeds. As an example, freeway speed of approximately 70 speedometer will read 0 at times, 40 at times or even may read 120, very erratic.

I was on my way to work doing 40 mph when i looked down to check my speed and the speedometer stated that i was going 70 mph and it was going higher. I begin to slow down but the speedometer would not go any less than 70 mph, even when i parked my car at my job it was still reading 70 mph.

Speedometer started acting inconsistent and then "fixed" itself the last week of december 2009. At that time it would not drop below 20mph. After seemingly being ok, the first week of jan. 2010, the speedometer jumped to 80mph and hung there and pegged out at 120mph when driven. I made appt. With gmac in winston salem, nc and was told the entire instrument cluster would have to be replaced @ $600+. Panel has been ordered and to be installed end of week. Now i see that there has been a letter sent out by gmac that i never received, to replace this cluster if less than 70,000 miles. I now have a little less than 73,000 miles. Apparently this has been a major problem???

My rpm gauge is not working.my speedometer works when using in stop and go mode or city driving. But when i am on a trip my speedometer will quit working accurately.it will reflect a much lower speed than i am going.my cruise control is often engaged when the speedometer stops working.but the rpm gauge no longer works at any time.i talked to someone at the chevrolet dealership and they said that the symptoms that i describe are very similar to the 2003/04 chevys that do have a recall.i have not taken any steps yet to fix. I was told that it would be $95 for a diagnostic service and that most likely it would cost $550 to fix (based on what they know about the chevys that are on recall).

I started my 2004 gmc envoy and the speedometer was not working.when i started it, it went to 60 without even moving.sometimes it stays at a speed no mater how fast or slow i go.if i am on a residential street, it says i am going 100.also the clock just changed by it self.it went three hours behind.i have not repaired anything yet.i would like gmc to repair my vehicle at no cost because i know there was a gm recall for speedometers not that long ago.

The speedometer begins to give faulty readings.at first it was reporting approximately 20 miles per hour under actual speed.this almost caused a crash due to excessive unknown speed.in the last few days the speedometer starts at 60 mph and is off by approximately the same amount so when traveling 50 mph the speedometer reads 110 mph.this is a massive safety issue and there are numerous reports about this yet no recalls.how many people must be injured or killed before you take action.

Headlights stopped working, speedometer stopped working, fuel gauge stopped working, voltmeter gauge stopped working.

Vacation to yosemite, the tachometer gets stuck and gives the wrong reading, without any warning. It has been consistently giving me the wrong rpm ever since. I have done nothing to correct the problem.

2004 gmc envoy instrument panel has inoperative speedometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge. Vehicle has 67,000 miles on it.

The headlights and dashlights flicker from bright to dim while driving and when braking. It's a dangerous situation to have other drivers as well as myself distracted by the constant flickering, but research seems to indicate that there is no fix for the problem and an overall lack of concern from gmc.

The speedometer has a malfunction that will make the speedometer read very erratic, at a steady speed the speedometer has been all the way over to the 120 mph and on other days it will stay a zero. This problem occurs frequently, not everyday but i would say atleast once every 2 weeks. I believe there could be grave consequences., you have absolutely no idea how fast or slow you are actually going, especially if there are no cars traveling the same direction as you.i will attempt to repair this item myself since the dealer says it can cost $300-$700 to fix.

The speedometer on my 2004 gmc envoy does not work properly. It will sometimes show that the vehicle is going a certain mph while the vehicle is in park. Example: vehicle is in park. Speedometer shows 34 mph. When driving, the speedometer bases it's speed off of 34 mph being at 0 and actual speed is 34mph higher than what i am actually going. Also, vehicle speedometer will sometimes get stuck past 120mph because of the needle being at a certain speed when the vehicle is not even moving.

My vehicle's instrument cluster fails on a regular basis after checking into the situation with gm dealers there is a recall on the sierra's and yukons which have the same cluster as my vehicle but gm refuses to stand behind the defect on the envoys. Parts have not been replaced yet on my vehicle hoping that gm will wake up and realize this is a common problem on the envoys and that it requires attention. The issue occurs on a regular basis normally several times per month, after a few days the cluster will reset and work as normal but has been very frustrating to deal with. When problem occurs i have to use my gps navigator to tell what speed i am traveling. The cost of the replacement is approx. $650.00.

My 2004 gmc envoy speedometer stopped working properly.there was no fore-warning.if i'm on the highway going 60 mph, it reads i'm goin 25 mph.the needle falls below "0" when idling.i've called a gmc dealer and they said there is no recall for this although i've read many exact complaints online.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.the contact stated that the speedometer suddenly stopped working.she called the dealer and was informed that the instrument cluster needed to be repaired.the dealer also stated that they would not be responsible for the repairs.through online research, the contact discovered that numerous people were experiencing the same failure.the vehicle has not yet been repaired; however, the contact believes that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect and a recall should be issued.she is unable to determine how fast she is driving.the failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 84,000.

The speedometer and tachometer are not working and the check engine light is coming on.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated while driving the speedometer displayed an increase in speed over 125 mph and when he stopped the vehicle the gauge would display 50 or 70 mph. He does not know the actual speed that he was traveling. The manufacturer stated the warranty had expired and they will not repair the vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 124,000 and the current mileage was 127,400. Updated 07/08/11*ljupdated 07/15/11

Speedometer and tachometer stopped working properly.these gauges do not reflect the speed of the vehicle properly. I.e. I am traveling 25mphand the gauge reads 100mph.

Trouble with instrument panel1. Tachometer not working for 1 1/2 years.2. Fuel gage not working right for over 1 year.3. Oil pressure gage went out not working at all 3 weeks ago.( biggest danger )4.speedometer went out as of january 4, 2008 not working at all for one day. It is now working but showingwrong speeds. Could have accident because of wrong reading.i have found out the gmc has some recalls on the instrument panels.as of today 01/06/2008 no recalls for the following years.2003-2008 gmc envoythis is a inferior instrument panel and a danger to the public.my 2004 gmc envoy should be on recall.hope you can help.number of failures 4.thank youthomas f. Thompsonp.s.under select complaint types.you have 4 listed to chose from.i am using( vehicle )my 1st problem startedat 38,000 milesand my last at 54,000 miles.speedometer not working right.

Around august 2012, the speedometer and tachometer of the suv began to indicate incorrect readings.the speedometer goes weeks working fine, then will read the incorrect speed for months.the tachometer needle just "hangs." the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the dash cluster would need to be changed at a cost of at least $600, possibly more.the dashboard cluster was not changed.it appears that several other 2004 gmc envoy owners are experiencing this same problem. A recall should be in order.

My speedometer does not work in mt 2004 gmc envoy. I understand that some of the gmc pickups had the same problem and it was handled as a recall.when it began, it would hang up at a range between 60-90 mph.it now just sits at 0.i have been stopped for speeding in local neighborhoods in massachusetts, where i work for going anywhere between 5-15 mph over the speed limit.this has cost me money in fines and my auto insurance, it should be handled as a recall, gmc needs to step up to the plate.i inquired with my mechanic, and its about a $900.00 fix for me to repair!

My speedometer gets stuck and does not function at times.although no harm has been caused, it is a concern that i've seen many others file complaints on.

Speedometer reads erratically.

Tachometer and speedometer does not work.tach completely does not work, speedometer is very erratic, stop starts again, off by many mph's.

Since car is new we continue to have melting issue with wiring and harness behind radio rack and areas that are affected in this instrument cluster.this has happened so many times gmc has extended the warranty on car to cover all of the car.it is again causing a problem, lights out on cluster, lighter inop, heater and a/c fans not always working.

I just bought a used 04 gmc envoy with 30,000 miles on it.now about a month after i bought it i'm having problems with the speedometer.sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.when it does not work it reads to high or two low.i can be driving down the road at 65 and it will drop below 0.or i can be stopped at a light and it shows 40. A quick search on the web shows thousands of people with the same problem.i feel gm and gmc should have to do a recall on this as it could be a life and safety item.for example one could slow to the recommend speed for a curve or a turn.if the speedometer is reading two low then the person would be traveling two fast for the turn.i see also where a class action law suit is in the works on this.

The instrument panel cluster on my gmc envoy 2004 is defective as it is on a multitude of other gm models between 2003 and 2005.one of the consequences is that the speedometer will not work or will report a faulty reading while operating the vehicle.this is an unsafe driving condition and for some reason gm has not yet issued a recall on this ipc problem for gmc envoys of the year 2004 even though other years of this model and other models of gm vehicles have been recalled for this exact issue. The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The speed gauge intermittently failed to work properly. The temperature and gas gauge also malfunctioned. The contact notified the manufacturer and was not offered any assistance. The manufacturer does not sell the parts for the vehicle and has purchase the parts from another distributor. The dealer informed him that he would have to go to another city to have his vehicle repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 31894. The current mileage was 32,000.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While driving approximately 45 mph, the speedometer displayed an inaccurate readingregardless of the speed being traveled.in addition, the fuel gauge indicator displayed " empty fuel" regardless of how much fuel was in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection.the technician recommended that the vehicle be taken to an authorized dealer to be repaired. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage was 40,000.the current mileage was 78,000.the vin was unavailable.

Ltr from senator cardin on behalf of constituent re problems with his 2004 gmc envoy. *njthe speedometer and tachometer stopped working. The consumer stated it was impossible to determine the speed he was traveling.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy. The speedometer and instrument display console went bad on it yesterday (01/28/08) randomly. Gmc acknowledges this problem with a recall with other gmc suv's, but not the envoy's. Service shops also admit the envoy's have this same problem and don't understand why gmc will not include the envoy as part of the recall.now, i am being asked to pay for costly repair.

The tachometer would quit working but it happened only a couple of times in jan 2008 & again in june 2008 and when we turned the car off and started it the next time it seemed to be fine as if it needed reset. In jan of 2009 the speedometer began to fail at first occasionally then all the time at the same time the tachometer sporadically failed. So we took it to the dealership and had them replace the instrument cluster in the dash (they kept the old part) and gm refused to help with the problem sitting the mileage on the vehicle at the time of the repair.

The cluster gauge on my 2004 gmc envoy has gone completely out. I did some research online and have found this is a major issue with all envoys made during 2004/2005 yet to recall has been issued.at first it was sporadic but eventually, all of the gauges went completely out.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.while driving 40 mph, the speedometer sporadically failed and displayed inaccurate readings.the contact is in the process of having the vehicle inspected.he called the manufacturer and is awaiting their response.the powertrain was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 26,500.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact observed while driving the speedometer displayed an inaccuratereading regardless of the speed beingtraveled.in addition, there was a malfunction with the headlights remaining "on" when deactivated.the failure occurred intermittent. The fan clutch failed unexpectedly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. The fan clutch was replaced.the contact had concern of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was50,000. The current mileage was 57,000.

On 11/01/07 i noticed the speedometer acting erratic; it would stay on 10 to 20 mph. When i knew i was going faster. At other times it would creep up to 75 or 80 mph. And not go down when i slow down. Occasionally it would work fine. This went on about 3 weeks and i thought it might correct itself. It finally stopped working altogether coming to rest above 120 mph. On 12/07/07 i took my vehicle to the dealership. They said they would have to replace the whole interment panel at a cost of around $470.00. They also said if i didn't have over 60,000 miles on my car it would have been covered under the warranty. I had 62,492 miles on the day i took the car to the dealer.

Speedometer registered improper speed when traveling on highway, would stick at various speeds when stopped. Has completely stop working.

The fuel gauge on my 2004 gmc envoy is not working.

Headlights, interior lights, all lights on vehicle flicker while driving on the highway. The vehicle does this when there is no apparent load on the electrical system (i.e. Blower, defroster, ac, power seats, windows etc.) the lights become very dim and then bright again in the matter of a few seconds. This can be dangerous to vehicles in front of you and approaching as they believe they are getting "flashed" by your vehicle. It is very unnerving driving with this random occurrence.

The ignition began to stick -- could not turn the key all of the way to the off position. Had to jiggle it several times before you could turn it so you could take the key out of the ignition. At the same time, you could not take the car out of the "park" position. The shifter would stick. None of these happened when the car was moving. Only when parked.also, beginning jan. 1, 2014, the rear tail lights went out in the car. Sears said there was something wrong with the wiring in the back.

On-going issues with my 2004 gmc envoy since purchase. Leave home, travel to destination, usually a short distance, when trying to restart vehicle all dash lights come on, radio works, windows work, etc., turn the key to start and nothing happens, no attempt at starting what-so-ever.makes no difference with temperature, time of day, rain/shine, etc.often if you leave the vehicle to sit for an hour, it will restart, sometimes sooner, sometimes not at all.first incident happened when we had 308 km on the vehicle, now we have 68,000 km and problem still exists.they have changed the ignition switch numerous times, reprogrammed the settings for international vs domestic in regards to the apparent security system that i have, which we discovered has never worked either.numerous issues with the abs coming on with dry pavement.water in rear backup lights, they were drained and re-sealed.rust on all interior door panels, back door and hood where joints meet, repaired.water on the floor at the door when it rains, fixed seal at door.drivers side door locked when you left the vehicle without locking it myself, reprogrammed.interior door trim/seal repeatedly falls off from back right passenger door.10 months left on our lease....can't wait to find a new vehicle.completely not satisfied with the vehicle or by the service we have received.

Upon attempting to start the vehicle, all the dash board warning lights and turn signal indicators came on and stayed on.all the gauges started acting erratically and all the needle indicators started jumping at random.when i turned off the vehicle and tried to start the vehicle again, the vehicle started without any problems.the very next time i tried to start the vehicle; it did the very same thing as mentioned above (gauges acting erratically, etc.).i attempted to start the vehicle several more time each time with the same result.finally the vehicle started and no further problems were experienced.i drove the vehicle for approximately 1200 mile over the next few days.yesterday, i was driving home at a speed of approximately 35 mph when the vehicle suddenly and without warning quit.i coasted to a safe spot on the shoulder of the road.i tried multiple times to restart the vehicle.each time the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as mentioned above e.g. Gauges acting erratically.after about 5 min. The vehicle started normally and i was able to drive home.in my driveway i attempted to start the vehicle several time.each time the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as mentioned above e.g. Gauges acting erratically.upon consulting with a local mechanic and a local dealer, i was informed the problem was most likely a bad ignition switch.the vehicle is currently having the switch replaced.

When key was turned in ignition all lights would work ,but engine would not turn over.speedometer would jump to 70 mph ,and tachometer would jump to approximately 2000 rpms even though engine was not running.dealer diagnosed problem to be faulty ignition switch due to low voltage at position ignition one.

The vehicle would not start, due to an open ignition switch. *bp the vehicle continued to have the same issue of an open ignition switch.the consumer requested that the manufacturer replace the vehicle. *sc *tc

The blower motor on our 2004 gmc envoy quit working and upon taking it to the dealer to repair, the dealer indicated that the blower motor resistor and the wiring harness that plugs into the resistor had melted together.when attempting to order the two parts (resistor and wiring harness), it was determined that the wiring harness is on nationwide backorder.the service manager also indicated that he has 5 others on backorder.from that comment, he indicated that there is a major issue with the wiring harness and resistor melting together on a national basis.the fact that the heat was so great to melt these two components together clearly indicates a possible fire and safety hazard.i believe it's something that should be investigated and a recall issued.

Cluster want power up properly at start up. Warning lights give false information. And now radio sometimes want play correctly. Ac fan want work on all speeds also at times. I looked up recalls and there was one 03v096000 but it did not cover my year. You can get different displays giving bad information on every start up.

Vehicle makes loud ticking noise when accelerating from a full stop. Vehicle also sounds like it has an exhaust leak.

I purchased the vehicle march of 2014 from sunset motors in coeur d alene, id.the following day the car died and i took it back to the dealer where they told me the fuel pump needed replaced; which they replaced.i left the dealership after the repair was completed and filled my gas tank when i began to smell a strong odor of gas.i pulled away from the pump and looked under the vehicle to see gas leaking from what appeared to be the fuel tank.i took it back to the dealership and they said that the neck of the gas tank was cracked and they would repair it.i left with the vehicle after sunset motors stated the repair was done on the gas tank.the check engine light came on the following day.the code was reading p0455 large evap leak.i have tried replacing the gas cap as recommended by autozone where i took the vehicle to have the code read.the light continued to come on over the course of months.i recently took it to aamco after my vehicle started vibrating while in idle where they informed me that the crack in the neck of the fuel tank was still apparent and fuel tank needed replaced.after doing research i have found this is a common problem for this vehicle and gm had offered to extend the warranty when research into safety was done previously which was accepted and no recall was done.gm has stated the warranty has expired. I feel that the leak in the neck of the fuel tank is amanufactures defect as there is no known reason for a crack to happen in the fuel tank.like i said previously i have found numerous reports of this happening to others with the same vehicle.i feel that it is a safety concern and fear the possibilities of what could happen to my vehicle with myself and young children in the vehicle until i am able to afford to replace the fuel tank.i would appreciate this being looked in to and the safety around the defect.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and the service engine light illuminated.the vehicle was not taken to a dealer.the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

My gmc envoy stalls out when i stop at traffic lights.i then have to put it in park to restart the vehicle.although test meters/equipment have been used to find the cause for the unexplained stall is still unknown.this happens apx. Once every (2) months.when the engine stalls out the "check engine light" comes on and last month the " reduced enginepower" light also came on and the envoy would only move at 3 to 4 mph.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would stall without warning. The vehicle would operate normally once the engine was restarted. The dealer stated that the spark plugs were faulty. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 146,000.updated 8/27/14 updated 8/29/2014

Vehicle was being driving approximately at 55 mph.engine loss power, gas pedal lost resistance and went all the way down to the floor board.vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and engine was stalled and all the dash lights were flashing one and off.engine started to have white smoke coming from under the hood.after a few minutes, the white smoke turned into black smoke and the engine caught on fire.vehicle was engulfed in flames after a few minutes.

I just had my brakes serviced and my bushings changed, but my abs light still comes on. Also when i go to brake the car starts to shake and i'm going the speed limit. The engine has a rough idle, and shuts off when at a complete stop and when the vehicle is in motion. I've had many things replaced on the vehicle, such as purge valve, gas cap. Charcoal canister and fuel tank. In the engine the spark plugs were changed as well as the coil packs and the fuel injectors. Along with the camshaft sensor. Still getting p0455 and po0014. Won't pass smog can't register vehicle, but my only means of transportation. 2004 gmc envoy xuv slt 4dr 2wd

The "check gauges" light flashes followed by "low oil pressure" followed by "stop engine" and the engine stalls.each time this happens the ac has been on. Sent to dealer and they were unable to reproduce this issue. Has happened 3 times now. Very scary.

The contact owned a 2004 gmc envoy. While driving approximately 55 mph, white smoke emerged from the engine compartment. The contact had to pull over in a parking area and exited the vehicle. The vehicle burned to the ground. The police and fire department were present. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I will cut the car on and reduced engine power light comes on and the car idols hard then cuts off while driving . I read on internet alit of gm vehicles have this problem just wondering is there a recall?also check engine light and reduced engine power light will not cut off.

I was driving in town and my speedometer stopped working at 0.the oil gauge is not working, pegged out at the max and my engine light is now constantly on.these events, particularly the speedometer not working, is a major safety hazard.not driving at controllable speeds can lead to an accident and death.the parts and labor to fix this problem is $550.while researching this problem on the internet, i've found out that this is a common problem with gmc's in this year.there should be a recall with the cluster unit on 2004 gmc envoys.gmc should try to prevent deaths that their products may create.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.while driving 55 mph, the contact noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle.she pulled over to inspect the vehicle and noticed that the front end was engulfed in flames.an investigator from her insurance company concluded that the fire derived from the engine compartment.a fire report was filed.the vehicle was completely destroyed.the contact has pictures of the vehicle after the failure.the manufacturer provided no assistance.the failure and current mileages were 47,970.updated 07/15/08 updated 07/15/08

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.while driving approximately 45 mph on normal road conditions, the contact rear-ended thepreceding vehicle.there were no damages to the vehicles or the occupants.he pulled over to the side of the road and noticed smoke suddenly appearing from the front end of the vehicle.immediately, the passenger compartment became engulfed in flames.the contact safely exited the vehicle.the police and fire departments were called to the scene and a report was filed.the vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to a collision center.the insurance company was notified; however, the cause of the failure has not yet been determined.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 75,000.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle started shaking prior to stalling while driving on the freeway at any speed five times.on each occasion, the check engine light illuminated on the dash.the vehicle has been to the dealership each time.on every occasion the gauges were cleaned and the oxygen sensors were replaced.the problem persists.

Low engine power light comes on and vehicle shuts down.sometimes you can restart it with no problems. Now it sputters and has very little power.if you turn on anything it makes it worse. It surges and stalls. It chugs along until you turn off as may electrical items as possible.

1. Engine will shut off when making a hard turn: after stopped at a stop sign, i was trying to make a hard turn (steering wheel reached the maximum turning angle) when the engine suddenly shut off itself.it happened three times either tuning left or right (today), but always after stopping and with a hard turning angle.it is such a huge safety defect with all the cars infront and behind you.no repair action has been taken.the problem may be reproduced.2. Turning signals not working after emergency lights used: it happened two times.turning signal lights (left or right) will not work correctly after the emergency lights were in use; instead both left and right turning lights will flash at the same time.it can be reproduced.no repair action taken yet.3. Difficult turning at a hard turn with 4-wheel-drive is on: it is almost impossible to make a hard turn when the 4-whell-drive is on.it happens every time.no repair action taken yet.

2004 gmc envoy stalls when accelerating from a stop.this problem occurred while in drive or reverse.the vehicle has been taken to be repaired five times but the problem still exist.during the most recent incident the vehicle stalled while making a left turn into traffic.the vehicle was taken to be repaired again and was given back tot he consumer two days later, supposedly fixed.

Gmc envoy suv (4.2) inline 6-cylinder.vehicle has stalled five times intermittently over the past six months.it stalls out when you begin to stop or start to accelerate from a stop or just while idling.luckily it hasn't been when i was trying to pass or merge in traffic.the first time was around 23,000 and the second time 23,500.the next occurrence happened while it was sitting in a parking lot idling and it died after running for 5-8 minutes.i took it to the dealer and they said it was the throttle body that needed cleaning - done.six weeks later and 1500 miles it stalled when i was trying to make a u-turn in st. Petersburg and i nearly got rear ended.dealer kept it two days and did nothing since they couldn't duplicate problem and couldn't get anything from the computer.i took it back to the dealer on 7/21 for regular maintenance (oil change, fuel filter change, and a/c repair-bad clutch).the dealer said they had two computer module updates, one to fix stalls.three days later it stalled in jacksonville traffic at a stop light.i have taken it back for a fourth time to the dealer and left for a week.dealer said vehicle idling rough but computer not registering problem so nothing was done, again.i e-mailed gm and i have had no reply in two weeks.i see where a person with a v8 version is having the same problem.this is an accident waiting to happen.

I own a 2004 gmc envoy, just purchased in january.i feel very unsafe driving it, for when i try to accelerate it just loses power feels like its gonna die out.the rpms are going up and down when i try to accelerate.it,s gonna end up causing me to get in a wreck.i brought it to dealerhip last thurs, they updated the software in pcm. I had to put it back in shop today for doing the same thing i feel as if they arent gonna find whats wrong b/c the check engine light isnt on and it doesn,t act up all the time.i really feel this is of major concern b/c i,m seeing a lot of complaints posted with this same problem in envoys and trailblazers.i think its time time for a recall don,t ya,ll?

Investigated check engine light. Secondary air injection pump failure for emissions.

Speedometer does not work accurately.check engine light came on randomly. Is currently out and i was able to pass emissions, hopefully it will remain out.had to replace many parts including the heater core, thermostat and coolant.now i am experiencing a problem with the fan of the car.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While the vehicle was stationary, the exhaust manifold fractured and the heat from the exhaust manifold damaged the frame of the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure caused severe rust and corrosion. In addition, the contact stated that there were holes in the frame. A dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the failure was not safety related and there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 136,000.

I've had problem with the electrical system. When i try to play the cd player it says check disc sometimes the disc will not eject from the radio. The clock always reset itself to incorrect time and not all lights stay lit on dash. Reported this incident twice to dealer they replaced sensor twice and here it is 2008 warranty has expired and still having same problems.

Air conditioner fan stopped.

Windshield wipers when turned, even if the mist or wash is selected will not turn off without shutting the vehicle off for approx. 15 minutes also both head low beam head lights will not turn on with or without the switch.

I was driving in the city at night time and my low beam lights quit working. I did not notice it right away because of the street lights. This could have caused an accident and put my husband, daughter and myself at risk.

Cluster want power up properly at start up. Warning lights give false information. And now radio sometimes want play correctly. Ac fan want work on all speeds also at times. I looked up recalls and there was one 03v096000 but it did not cover my year. You can get different displays giving bad information on every start up.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the headlights illuminated independently when the vehicle was turn off. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

The headlines turn off by themselves while i am driving at night. This problem has been going on since january of 2015. I have taken the vehicle to several shops, and even the dealer, but nobody knows how to fix the problem. Currently, the headlights only work in high beam. I drive with high beam lights and fog lights. Either way it is a safety issue. High beams can cause accidents. Driving with no lights can cause accidents. Lights shutting off while i am driving can cause accidents and/or death.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the turn signals would fail intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the blinker switch housing assembly needed to be replaced. The remedy failed to repair the problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v198000 (exterior lighting:turn signal). The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 102,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

When traveling down the road and putting on the brakes the headlights and dash lights flicker. The flickering is so much that is looks like we are flashing other cars.

2004 gmc envoy 4x4.

When i park my car the headlights come back on after a minute. The only way to turn them back off is take batery cable off.

The low beams will not come on !!!this nearly caused an accident !please i beg of you "recall".

2004 gmc envoy headlights would periodically dimm and go off during breaking. Without warning headlights failed with no indication. Repair at gmc dealer cost $130 for a "hdm relay".very dangerous failure as no fuses failed, no lamps failed, but a hidden component failed which caused me to go off a highway at high speed at night.

Connection to headlights keep burning up! (plug)i replace them 4 times already!

The headlights are extremely dim - always have been. Found out in march from a college class that there was a recall i was unaware of (never saw mail about it). Anyhow, a 2004 vehicle is only getting older and its lights are a huge liability. More curious as to why there's a deadline for a recall (if there is a problem with a vehicle that is sold then it should be fixed - especially if it puts others at risk).

The truck's dim lights all of the sudden stop working. The bright lights come on, but the dim lights will not come on at all. The bulbs were checked, and the dimmer switch. I've taken it to 2 mechanics, and no one can find out what's wrong with the lights. I can't get my tags renewed because the dim lights don't work at all. I've called gmc to see of any recalls, and they stated only rear tail lights. I definitely think its a manufacturers default, and would like the issue resolved.

Noticed smoke coming from under the hood and then passenger side head light went out. Upon investigation i noticed the light socket for the head light was melted.i did some research and learned that this appears to be a very common problem, with some actually causing fire or accidents.

Headlights stopped working, speedometer stopped working, fuel gauge stopped working, voltmeter gauge stopped working.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the warning lights and gauges on the instrument panel failed. The contact mentioned that the turning signals only worked intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to a repair shop or dealer for inspection. The current mileage was 120,000 and failure mileage was 90,000.

While driving at night both low beam headlights go out completely without warning.vehicle traveling at highway speed and has happened while driving in city as well.highbeam headlights work when switched on after low beam stop working. Cannot leagally drive with highbeams on always. My envoy is in excellent condition and is dealer serviced even though it has high mileage.there was a recall for 2006 and up for this type issue, why was the 2004 model year not looked at?there are others that have had the same issue with lowbeam headlights.fusebox underhood is labeled to confuse owner and relays not described well in owners manual. There is no relay listed for low beam headlights.headlight driver module is a know failure component.gm also changed onstar to digital system leaving gm cars like mine with analog onstar unservicable and requires expensive upgrade.headlights going dark while driving at night is a danger and vehicle should be required to fall under recall for 2006 models as well.slight accident, ran off road into ditch and caused light damage.vehicle was able to be driven, but needed some repair.

2004 envoy:rear brake lights and parking lights have failed frequently and needed replacement 6 times in 6 months.brake light failure is a safety hazard.it may result in an accident.i saw a recall on nhtsa website about this problem. Tookcar and nhtsa paperwork to gm dealer .dealer said recall was for vehicles before and after mine.this conflicts with nhtsa campaign number #04v527000.

2004 gmc envoy sle - frequent recurring problem with headlight failure. Headlights will turn off without notice. Checked fuses, connections and wires. Have taken to local gmc dealership (beckon maston) for repair however dealership unable to diagnose.vehicle is completely oem, please advise.

While driving,at night the fog lights failed to adjust properly.consumer noticedthat while the vehicle was parkedbumper moved back and forth, and was not stationary. Consumer took vehicleto the dealer for inspection, andmechanic statedthat the warranty expired, and the consumer had to pay for service.

2004 gmc envoy. Consumer writes in regards to headlight connector *tgwthe consumer stated headlight connector melted, due to overheating.

2004 gmc envoy, headlights flickered while driving.oncoming traffic thoughti was flashingat them, causing them to pull over or flash me back, safety hazard. Tookcartwice to dealership, but they failed to find thecause of the problem. E found on online forums where many people have similar problem with no answers.

While accelerating headlights will periodically dim and brighten without warning.

The headlights and dashlights flicker from bright to dim while driving and when braking. It's a dangerous situation to have other drivers as well as myself distracted by the constant flickering, but research seems to indicate that there is no fix for the problem and an overall lack of concern from gmc.

Headlights did not work, just fog and high beams, took to dealer to fix, spent $500.00 and after i picked it up,same thing happened again, within a week, plus i received a ticket and points for driving without headlights.took back to have fixed again, and they tried charging me another $200.00 saying it was something else un-related. Turned on engine, and it didn't sound quite right, ended up stalling about 4 times, on way home, ended up calling them to have car towed back to dealership.they claim it was nothing they did, however, it still stalls for no apparent reason, untl this day.never know when it could happen, very dangerous, and i am in sales and drive for a living.

My headlights goes out while im driving and i was just trying to find out about gmc recalls they had a recall on the head lights shining in the wrong directions but mine cuts off several times i have to pull to the side of the road/highway to wait for them to come on again i have run off the road once.

Tail light malfunction. During normal operation of the vehicle the taillight will go out. The bulb has been checked along with the connection. There seems to be a problem with the wiring. This malfunction creates a safety hazard during night driving. It also present legal concerns with tickets from law enforcement.

At random times when using the left turn signal the hazard lights will come on instead of the turn signal or they just won't blink at all. The rest of the time it works fine but could be a dangerous situation at the times the turn signal does not work.

2004 gmc envoy developed the following problems: vehicle stalled, turn signals stopped working, blower fan stopped working, and the srs light remains lit.*mrthe turn siganls stopped working due to a short in the flasher. The vehicle overheated, but the problem could not be diagnosed. The lcd displays, knobs become extremly hot after hours of driving.

When right directional signal was actuated, intermittently would also activate hazard (4-way) flashers.dealer replaced flasher module (ref tsb 30842014) and has been ok since then.

2004 gmc envoy. Customer requested fuel sending unit to be replaced. Upon speaking with other envoy owners this is a common occurrence in corrosion areas, namely nova scotia.the leak was found after owner smelled a constant gas odor around the back driver wheel well. When the gas tank was taken down for inspection the modular reservoir assembly, which contained the fuel pump, developed corrosion of the fuel fee/return pipes after an extended period of time.the modular reservoir assembly had to be entirely replaced on september 28, 2010.the vehicle only had 88,546km.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact was having routine repairs made to the vehicle when the dealer stated that there was a small leak in the fuel tank. Although there was a safety improvement campaign for the failure on his year, make and model, his vin was not included in the campaign. The manufacturer would not offer any assistance. There were no repairs made to the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 67,800 and the current mileage was 67,800.

Check engine light came on, took my truck to the mechanic to have it checked andtestingshowed codes offuel evap leak. I had to get this fixed asi was due to get my registration renewed. Got the vehicle back went for emissions test and the"check engine light" popped up again just as emission test was being done!!!. I could not believe it!so not only did i incur cost of mechanic butthe vehicle failed the emissions test. The tech at the emissions center said the codes showed "fuel evap leak" detected., while driving home from the emissions test i smelled a strong gas odor, pulled into my garage and looked under the vehicle and it was not leaking however my whole garage stunk of gas. My garage is attached to my house, let the dog out and the dog even sneezed!.... Being a weekend and my only way of transportation i drove the car as little as possible. Monday took the car back to the shop and the tech noticed the strong odor , later the technician called me to tell me that the lines to fuel tank and the fuel tank needed to be replaced as they were leaking but only when the vehicle was mobile!!!!!. He also told me that the vehicle was a fire hazard and i could not drive the vehicle. Now what! i had to get this fixed as i need the vehicle to get to work. The additional cost was $960 not to mention the extension i had to pay the dmv to extend my renewal registration.had the vehicle back a week now, no more gas smell but lord and behold the "check engine light" just popped up again! this vehicle only has 103k and very well taken care of..the mechanic says the code is still reading "fuel evap leak" . Somebody please help.!!!!!!!it seems as tho i am not the only envoy owner with this problem!!!!!! i loved this vehicle but totally disgusted and disappointed ingmc.

Received a special case 07076 letter from gmc. Took 2004 gmc letter indicated if you were not seeing symptoms you are not to take it to dealer. I already have regular maintenance service scheduled and brought this sc07076 letter to dealer to inquire about case. Dealer service advisor recommended to have this sc07076 service performed as preventively maintenance eventhough the vehicle was not exhibiting these symptoms. The service was performed and immediately the vehicle began to show symptoms in the exact nature that was described in the sc07076 letter, fuel fumes, fuel leak when filling, ses light on...took vehicle back and dealer indicated that they will not perform free service eventhough it should still be covered under stipulations of sc07076 letter as well as their warranty policy.currently this is a health and safety issues since my children and i get headaches from gas fumes when needing to use the vehicle as fear for our safety since fuel leaks from gas tank now.i am trying to prevent any injury or death, mine, a passenger or near by person. Apparently gmc and dealer are aware of the problems but now ignore the situation due to their current financial situation.

2004 gmc envoy 6-cyl 2wd with ~172,000 miles.check engine light was due to evap leak in the fuel system.smoke check at the mechanics resulted in visible smoke exiting the filler neck of the fuel tank (not the filler neck from the gas line).new fuel tank (dealer part only!) is ~$900 from dealer to dealer.plus labor.

2004 gmc envoy. Consumer requests reimbursement for fuel module replacement *tgwin october of 2008, the consumer received a notification that some 2004 model year gmc envoy vehicles operated in one of the corrosion areas such as new york. The fuel tank modular reservoir assembly, which contained the fuel pump, could develop corrosion of the fuel fee/return pipes after an extended period of time. The consumer stated she kept the letter in case she had a problem in the future. On august 10, 2010, she started smelling a constant strong gas smell inside and outside of the vehicle. When the consumer went to the dealer for her scheduled appointment, the manager pointed out that the notice stated that gmc would only provide an extended coverage within 10 years of the date the vehicle was originally placed in service or up to 120,000 miles. The consumers vehicle had 124,979 miles on it at the date of service. The consumer contacted several managers at gmc to see if she would qualify for reimbursement for the known issue, but was denied on each call.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.the contact stated that there was an overpowering gasoline odor inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised that the fuel tank exhibited a leak and needed to be replaced.the contact called the manufacturer regarding the fuel leak and the manufacturer suggested taking the vehicle to the dealer for repairs.the failure mileage was 60,000.

Headlights stopped working, speedometer stopped working, fuel gauge stopped working, voltmeter gauge stopped working.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.the contact stated a fuel tank cracked causing the fuel to leak and the vehicle to stall. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic who replaced the fuel tank which corrected the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.

My service light came on during the summer of 2013 and diagnostics were completed stating that there was a pressure issue, then later in the fall, noticed fuel smell at time of fueling.took car to shop to get checked, shop owner found recall for injuries demonstrated in my fuel system.moved car to gmc dealer for official diagnostics, they stated that my car was actually a 2003, since it was sold in dec of that year and would not be eligible.i then found a recall notice published in 2007 that included 2002 and 2003 vehicles with the initial recall.gmc told me that they did not have to cover warranty because it was a voluntary recall(they could not explain in a satisfactory way how this affected me as a consumer).the nhtsa action # is pe07014.at the time of the symptoms, my car had less than 130,000 miles on it (as it has just 130 k on it now) and was just under 10 years old.

The cluster gauge quit working.first the gas gauge stopped reading the amount of gas in the tank.second, the speedometer and tachometer quit reading.about a month later the oil pressure gauge stopped working.currently out of the entire cluster gauge system the battery meter is the only gauge that works.

I went to get my vehicle smoged and the smog tech let me know i have a leak from a clamp. When i got home i went to replace the clamp and saw that the neck on the gas tank was completely broken and that was where the actually leak was coming from. Apparently this is a big problem with other peoples gmc envoy's, it is very dangerous, and the neck is made out of plastic.now i am at a loss of a car until i can afford to fix it. This defect should be replaced by the manufacturer not by the owners.

2004 gmc envoy verified by sims buick-gmc-nissan warren, ohio, to have a leak in fuel tank around filler neck area. Smell of gas always around and inside of vehicle. Vehicle leaks gas when filled completely. Vehicle being repaired 12-17-14. Gm will not provide any help due to vehicle being 10 years old and over 100,000 miles.

2004 gmc envoy. Faulty gas gauge. Car has a full tank but gas gauge reads 1/4 tank to empty.

Gmc has refused to repair/replace a faulty fuel tank. Instead gmc has asked that i pay for the repair $1567.00. Apparently, several gmc envoy owners have complained about cracks in the fuel tank. Gmc has determined unless the crack occurred within 36,000 miles of purchasing the car, it is the owners responsibility to fix the vehicle.my vehicle has been ruled unsafe to drive by a gmc technician. My children are riding in a vehicle that was faulty from the date of purchase. I am so disappointed in gmc.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy 4.2 that has been smelling of gas for a couple of years. My service light comes on. There is a crack in my fuel tank and gas literally leaks out of the tank and runs onto the ground, if i fill my tank up all the way. Originally, the recall didn't include 2004's, but now it says: "the expanded policy covers my 2002-2004 trailblazer ext, gmc envoy xl, and gmc envoy xuv vehicles".how do i go about getting this fuel tank replaced for free under the recall? i did not receive a recall letter in the mail, and when i put my vin# in the search, it says there are no open recalls, but my vehicle obviously falls into the expanded recall policy.my vehicle info:vin: [xxx]year: 2004 make: gmc model: envoy xl 370nhtsa action number : pe07014nhtsa recall campaign number : n/ainformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I will cut the car on and reduced engine power light comes on and the car idols hard then cuts off while driving . I read on internet alit of gm vehicles have this problem just wondering is there a recall?also check engine light and reduced engine power light will not cut off.

Gasoline smelled/leak.replaced gas tank.

I own a 2004 gmc envoy with approximately 85,000 "highway" miles.my check engine light came on a few months ago an i had it analyzed at a large auto repair chain.it indicated a vacuum leak.the mechanic determined that the top of the pvc gas tank where the inlet value was mounted to the tank during manufacturing was likely the source as there was fuel stains running down the tank from this location!to add some additional support to this matter, the mechanic stated that another general motors vehicle of the same type had the same, exact problem the week before.obviously this is not my problem alone. I contacted general motors and long story short, they refused to replace the tank because it was out of warranty.the gmc mechanic indicated that if it had 60,000 miles or fewer, he would likely have replaced it for me. I attempted to explain that a fuel leak is a very dangerous problem and i was concerned about my families safety.to explode or burn in an accident, because of this problem was unacceptable.this is not a mileage factor and it is not a wear part, it was simply not properly sealed when it was being manufactured.i feel that general motors should check into this matter as it is a serious safety issue that likely affects many envoys and trail blazers.i hope that this notice will start a full investigation and a recall.a death from this defective part is very possible. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My 2004 gmc envoy slt cluster gauge; speedometer, gas gauge, and oil pressure gauge have stopped working.

Rpm gauge shows i am at 7000 rpm when stopped at idle.while driving the gauge moves backwards, to a negative ramp number, below the zero. Went to shop today and couldn't fix it. Will go back to dealership next week to attempt to fix the problem.

The fuel gauge on my 2004 gmc envoy is not working.

The transmission started to slip, noticed it starting to have issues getting up to proper speed without slipping and trying to stall, and was told by previous owner whom i'm purchasing it from that there is a possible issue with the transfer case as well, as it engages it's 4 wheel drive without me touching it, tried to service the transmission and put fresh fluid and a new filter in to see if it would help and now it can only go as fast as 40 to 55 before it starts to slip pretty bad. I have a baby on the way due in the next couple weeks and with it slipping and dropping speed it can cause me to end up getting hit and i don't want to put mine, my child, or any of my other passengers in danger.

The fuel tank neck where the fuel goes into the vehicle then down to the gas tank is cracked which is causing a gas leak & vapors.

Check engine light diagnosed as dtc code p0442 (evap leak).smoke test revealed crack in fuel tank assembly where filler neck hose meets the fuel tank.gmc issued a bulletin no.: 05-06-04-014a on march 21, 2005 regarding the above referenced dtc code and its possible connection to a fracture in the fuel tank, but has not issued a recall or other remedy for this defect.vehicle is unsafe due to fuel tank fracture.in addition, vehicle cannot be registered because it cannot pass smog test with check engine light on.cost for repair is $1,300-$1,500.

There is a strong gasoline smell inside and outside the vehicle.the check engine light is on and the code is indicating some type of vapor/emissions problem.i took the vehicle to 2 different mechanics and they both found that the fuel tank filler area has a vapor and liquid leak.there is a tsb issued by gmc that covers this situation but they will only honor it on vehicles prior to 2004.

Fuel tank check valve mount separates from tank causing a leak. Gm will not fix this defect. This is a safety issue that could result in fire or explosion. I have seen many owners on the internet with same issue.

Recently, when the a/c or heater is turned on, the smell of fuel comes thru the air vents. It is a strong odor which last for a few minutes to sometimes longer. I have to put the windows down in order to not get dizzy or get a headache. The vehicle be in motion or still for this to happen. Mileage is around 95,000. I've heard it's a cracked fuel line or fuel tank and read many complaints about the same; therefore, why no recall?

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While the vehicle was idling, there was a strong fuel odor. The contact noticed the fuel was leaking out of the fuel tank. 2004 gmc envoy, well maintained at 158,000 miles began to emit an odor of gasoline.at first it was only slightly noticeable, but overtime it's become very noticeable.interior and exterior of the car smells like gasoline.no gasoline is leaked, only fumes are emitted.took it to a local repair shop and they state that there is a crack on the inlet of the fuel tank.repair shop stated my model is not covered by the recall issued for envoy xl of the same year, but stated it is exactly the same issue and that i should file a complaint here.estimate cost of repair $1000+.

I bought this car last december . Went to gas station , got home smelt fuel odor. There's no visible leaks , just fuel smell from top of tank. This is not a common problem , lot complaints online . I have kids , and this unsafe. There are no recalls for this , gm should recall and fix .

A very strong odor of gasoline is inside and outside of my car.when the car is started and being driven the smell is most heaviest.after driving and it sits, you can continue to smell the gas fumes.i took my vehicle to a certified dealership to find out the problem and a diagnostic was done.unfortunately, i was told that the problem could not be detected.i continue to be afraid that maybe my can is going to catch on fire or explode at any time.after doing my research, i have found that there are many owners of gmc envoys with this same problem.some of the models have been recalled, but this issue reaches far beyond those models.all make and models with this problem should be recalled.

Strong odor of gas coming from inside and outside of vehicle. Truck is currently in shop to replace fuel sensor and fill neck.

Fuel tank.at least three years ago, i received a recall form gm because of the fuel filler tube/fuel tank was compromised and i was being recalled for a fun tank replacement.went to my gmc dealer (nalley of brunswick ga)who told me that fuel tanks were on national backdoor even though they had the filler tube parts, would notify me when the tanks available.i faithfully revistedthem every 6 months to be told same story, still no fuel tanks.i believe now they are hoping i just go away.in the mean time i still cannot fill up the tank without having gas fumes emanating from under the car.

My car is leaking gas and i. Can only put 20 or 30 dollars worth in at a timewhere most of it ends up on the ground. There is also a very strong gas smell. I'm taking it in to be fixed but this is obviously a problem since i just read that other owners are having this problem so there should be a recall before someone is seriously hurt my check engine light also comes on for a while and then goes off. These are problems that require a recall.

Filler neck on gas tank has fractured causing gas vapors and possibly gas to escape the tank.i have been driving the vehicle with this condition present but have just received a notice from gmc indicating that they are aware of the problem but my vehicle is outside of the window they will cover for repairs.

Leaks fuel. Common problem from what i am reading online. Was told by service tech that fuel tank needs to be replaced. Plastic tank is broken where fill hose connects to the tank inlet check valve.

The gas tank keeps cracking causing gas to leak out. It has been in the shop twice for this and car hop only wants to continue to put a used tank on it. The shop requested a new tank be purchased and they denied to request. The first time it was in the shop they wen though three tanks then it only lasted about a month.

One rear door swung open while pulling out of a parking lot with my daughter in the backseat (thank goodness she was in a seatbelt, but my purchase went flying out and spilled out all over the road).since then i have noticed both rear door latches randomly stick closed even when the doors are unlocked and both latches randomly fail to latch closed causing door to remain open. After this happens, i try numerous times to close the door only to have it not catch.after playing with the latch, it finally works. I avoid opening the rear doors at all if i can. The latches do appear corroded and rusty.there is a recall for this on the 2003 xl model, but my 2004 model has the same exact problem!it seems others share the same complaint according to some internet forums.

So, nothing has been done to fix this problem because no one can find a solution. I park my $18,000 vehicle next to the road in case it does spark a fire. Please inform me if anything is available or who i need to contact at gmc to find an answer.

Dt*:the contact stated while going around a curve at 35 mph the driver side rear door opened.the vehicle was pulled to the side of the road.upon attempting to close the door, it would not stay closed.the vehicle was taken to the dealership.they replaced the driver side rear door latch, which remedied the problem.

Consumer stated incoming air pressure and noise were hurting his and his family ears.the noises were unbearable.also, the pressure of air coming into the vehicle caused the liner on the roof to flap up and down.this happened whiledriving30 mph.consumer was stopped on the freeway the other day by the police because he was traveling too slow.consumer claimedthat he had to travel slowly because of the air rushing inside, aftervehicle was closed tightly, it was causing his wife ear pain.consumer tookvehicle to the dealer at least 3 times, but was told that this was amanufacturing defect. Consumer was given a courtesy ride in another gmc, envoy, and it did the same thing.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the rear hatch back glass shattered. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the rear latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

Vehicle is stuck in park, on the dash board it show the vehicle in reverse. Instrument cluster is not working properly, tach gauge not reading correctly. Temperature gauge does not work at all. Forward air vents do not work all.

Gear shifter moves freely up and down, but will not engage the gears in order for the vehicle to move.

When contact comes to a yield sign transmission jerks before going into gear. Later he was told this was a brake problem.when approaching a hill/downhill andapplying brakes they lock and car slides.dozens of timescheck brake, service 4 wheel drive lights have comeon.contact has taken vehicle to dealer over 12 times since it has been purchased. Due service lights, brakes and transmission. Consistently told by dealer that nothing is wrong. But dealer aknowledges check brake lights have come on. Dealer states that if computer diagnostic does not produce an error code, then there is nothing they can do.

We complained about the transmission slipping at 33,000 miles and take it back to the dealer they say the checked the problem and replaced an electrical component, at 50k while my wife was driving on the highway at 65mph lost the power train. After much discussion and three weeks the dealer finally agreed to fix for 500 vice 3300 which they wanted. A week later the transmission is slipping again and now we lost power steering and the gas needle stopped working. I have left messages for the service manager at wiesner gmc in conroe tx and they have not returned any calls. I am now taking the vehicle to a different mechanic to tried to get it repaired.

Bought "certified used" envoy in october of 07. Transmission completely stopped at 57k miles 3 months after purchase. Check engine light comes on and off every couple days(have video, but sandy sansing of pensacola florida says there nothing wrong) vehicle jerks at stops and starts. After 3 trips to dealership w/ "nothing wrong" they finally decided that a o2 sensor was bad at 71k. Envoy had been back in the shop at a cost of 80.00 bucks twice since then because of the "check engine" light and the brakes are failing, the "abs brake" light doesn't come on so they say it cant be the brakes. When trying to stop the brakes stop working and a second later they will catch and begin to stop vehicle, as if the brake system is obstructed and skips a few times. The check engine light flashes for those few seconds but doesn't stay on long and they say it isn't throwing any codes. Problem doesn't happen everyday so the dealership has said its a unfounded problem. The thermostats assembly with other parts have been replaced. Have all receipts and dates that i've taken this pos into the dealership. I will never buy another gmc vehicle. I have a 10 year old pickup truck also and has only been in the shop once. There's no excuse that we are driving these (expensive) unsafe vehicles!!

There is a malfunction in consumer gmc envoy power train control module resulting in failure to accelerate.

Dt:the contact stated the service brake light illuminated in the dashboard. While driving thevehicle and pressing on the accelerator pedal the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection, and they changed the fan clutch assembly. The vehicle is still under warranty .

The contact owns a2004 gmc envoy.while driving 55 mph, the driver heard a loud noise in the front of the vehicle.the gear shifts from normal to 4 wheel drive.the dealer informed the contact that the front differential was cracked and needed to be replaced.the vehicle was diagnosed for a second opinion and the mechanic agreed with the previous failure including that there was no oil in the differential.the contact stated that she has filed a complaint## 71-492693494 with the manufacturer.the contact can provide photos if needed.the dealer advised the contact the vehicle can be repaired for a fee.the current and failure mileage were 55453.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.while making a turn at 40 mph, the contact heard a loud boom and a grinding noise.she had the vehicle towed to her mechanic and then to the dealer.the dealer stated that the front driver side differential casing was cracked.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 71,838.

Service 4wd light came one with 2500 miles on new 2004 gmc envoy.replaced actuator, then a control module on transfer case.was told neither fixed the problem. Now told the transfer case must be replaced.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.while driving 35 mph, the contact rear ended another vehicle.his vehicle was destroyed.the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belts did not retract for both occupants seated in the front.the contact and the passenger struck the steering wheel with their chests and shoulders.both were severely injured.the contact, passenger, and other driver were transported to the hospital.the vehicle was towed to a repair shop and is awaiting an investigation.a police report was filed.the failure mileage was 60,000.

Driver's side seat belt retractor failed. The seat belt was replaced. However, the part continued to fail.

Dt: without warning the seat belt retractor will not let the seat belt be pulled out. Dealer replaced the retractor twice. The consumer has been to dealer about 5 or 6 times for this problem.manufacturer said it was a design defect.

2004 envoy seat belt does not loosen when it retracts.the dealer replaced the seat belt retractor.

The driver's seat belt locks up randomly and can not be pulled out to fasten across the driver.it can take varying lengths of time to manipulate it to finally release it - anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes.half of the time i have to get out of the vehicle to struggle with it.one time i was not able to release it (one complete failure) and had to drive home without my seatbelt fastened. The reason for filing this complaint is because i have an average of 1 failure a day since i've owned the vehicle.this is extremely frustrating, embarrassing, and time consuming.but my primary concern is over my safety in the vehicle with a seat belt i can't rely on.

I bought a 2004 gmc envoy from knightlinger motors in coudersport pa 3-2004. I started having seat belt malfunction within the first month of purchase. I kept going back to them when the driver's seat belt kept locking into place. They would assist in un locking it.over the last two years the seat belt mechanics have been replaced four times unsuccessfully.it is not right that nothing will be done to correct this safety issue. Every time i get behind the wheel i take a 99% risk of injury due to the fact that the seat belt is non functioning. It is a come and go kind of thing. One minute it works then the next week i am left without usage.i have four children and myself in that vehicle and yet gmc has not fixed the problem. I have contacted gmc and they tried to appease me by providing an extended warranty.i have been in contact with on many occasion discussing this issue and yet they keep saying that the seat belt needs to be replaced. Erica from gmc consumer management agreed that i should not have to keep having something replaced if it is not fixing the problem. The last time this was replaced was in june. Within two hours it was not functioning correctly.now it is back.one minute i can use my seat belt and then next time i get in i don't get to.i recently phoned erica again to explain that this is a safety violation and that she need to contact me so that we could discuss options. To date my phone calls go unanswered.the laws demand that you wear a seat belt at all times but i can not do so with my gmc.do i have to wait for death before this issue is taken care of.winter is coming and it is unfair that my truck will sit in the garage on the days that i feel unsafe to travel without a seat belt.why did i spend $42000 on an automobile that was suppose to keep me safe. What i feel is unfair is this bad treatment.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy slt. The contact stated that the passenger air bagand seat belt warning lightilluminated while the seat was unoccupied. The warning light remained illuminated even after the seat became occupied and the failure would first recur intermittently until the failure became constant. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for the failure. The dealer replaced the safety inflatable restraint sensor and diagnostic modular. The failure and current mileage was 45,000.updated 05/05/11*ljupdated 06/03/11

Going down the road to work my airbag light comes on and wont go off and now i cant get a inspection sticker there was no reason for my light to come on unless there is something wrong with vehicle!!

The passenger seat spontaneously combusted due to a short in the electric seat motor causing the entire vehicle interior to burn. The car is totaled.the vehicle was parked in my driveway.

Bottom driver side seat warmer caught seat on fire.melted a hole in the seat surface, blistered wife's leg.this happened during her morning commute to work on city surface streets

I was a front seat passenger in a 2004 envoy when we were rear ended by a semi truck.the seat i was in twisted sideways toward the driver's seat.i want to know if this is a common occurrence in envoy accidents.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.the contact stated that the second row seats do not provide adequate room for a child seat.the seats are in a reclined position, therefore, when the base and child seat are positioned in the middle row, they do not appear leveled.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 65,128.

While driving on a city street the car started lugging and not driving smoothly. When i needed to brake shortly after this happened the brake pedal went to the floor and i had no brakes. I pumped the brakes and was able to stop without hitting any one. I continued about 5 miles continually pumping the brakes not knowing if they would work .during this time the pedal would sometimesgo to the floor and other times almost go to the floor.then as suddenly as it started it stopped. Brakes were back to normal. This happened previously and the gmc mechanic found nothing wrong. So i'm put back on the street risking my life and someone else's because the mechanic said "it sometimes happens". That's not acceptable!

The abs light stayed on after the fact i had the breaks serviced a few years ago. The airbag light has been on for about a year. Now my break light stopped working, i replaced the fuse and still not working and now the headlamps stopped working. They only work on high beam.

While at low speed i press the brakes to stop it goes to stop but then its like the abs kicks in and releasesthe brakes then i have to repress the brakes to get it to stop

The front brake shoes on an 2004 envoy has been replaced every year since 2007. Will not wear evenly and causes the front end to vibrate when applying the brakes.

Bought the car 2006 was two years at that time less than a week into replaced brakes for abs failure. Still happening, took it back said everything was normal. Well about two weeks ago my wife was going up-hill to a stop light hit the brakes on slick pavement and the brakes locked up and abs did not kick in. Causing my wife to total two vehicles that i am now being sued for one of them.

Dt*:the contact stated intermittently the vehicle coasts through intersections while the brake pedal is depressed.also, the brake pedal has collapsed to the floor on other occasions. In addition, the abs activates on dry pavement. When the vehicle was taken to the dealership for the abs, they replaced the control valvewhich caused the brake pedal to have more movement.the master cylinder was also replaced, but this did not remedy the problem. The contact feels it should be a recall issue.wisconsin state attorney generalis working to get wisconsin included in 14 state recall list.updated on 06/01/2006.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 97,000.

I purchased a new 2004 envoy xuv in 7/2004.after about 3 months of ownership the steering wheel started to make a squeaking noise when turning or being in park and turning the wheel.when i brought in the xuv for an oil change i told the dealer about the squeakbut they were unable to duplicate the noise that day.however, the noise was still there and as the time came closer to thenext oil change the noise was getting louder.it was kind of a scraping sound.the dealer did hear that sound that was described and lubricated something in the steering wheel.the noise faded but was back within the next couple of days.well, today i brought in the xuv for it's scheduled oil change and complained about the noise.the answer the gmc dealership gave me was that this is a common defect in the envoys and yukon and there was nothing they can do to fix it.changing the steering shaft would not fix it and lubricating it won't work either.the noise coming from the steering wheel is like a window being cleaned with a squeegee.so, as of today...still no resolution to the problem.

My 18 year old daughter was driving on the pa turnpike around 12 am on oct. 5, 2015. She was changing lanes, moving into the left lane next to her and the steering wheel locked, it would not allow her to straighten out the steering wheel. The envoy drove right into the median at full force, spun around, and flipped twice. When the car landed on all four wheels, she was across the lanes of traffic. She was able to get out of the car and to safety prior to being hit by 2 other cars coming down the road. The envoy was totaled. By the grace of god my daughter made it out alive and is currently experiencing problems with her left knee. We are not sure why the steering wheel locked, unable to turn, forcing her directly into the median. It could be an issue with the steering column or wheels. The envoy is currently at a collision yard in levittown, pa.

Dt: the consumer complained about a power steering problems. There was a constant squeak in the steering even while the vehicle was parked.she said there was a popping noise while turning right or left.the consumer also heard the popping noise while going over speed bumps.the squeaking noise beganas soon as the vehiclestarted.the service dealer replaced thepower steering belt, power steering gear, a link and bushing, and the drive belt.also, the dealeradjusted the power steering pulley.this did not remedy the problem, so they replaced the entire power steering pump.however, the problem recurred.the dealer thought it may have been something in the front suspension, so they replaced two stabilizer links.this still did not remedy the problem.updated 11/29/05.

We complained about the transmission slipping at 33,000 miles and take it back to the dealer they say the checked the problem and replaced an electrical component, at 50k while my wife was driving on the highway at 65mph lost the power train.

When it rained the consumer noticed it leaked into the vehicle.the consumer made contact with the dealer on five separate occasions. The consumer stated that rain was coming through the windshield.this problem was noticed when the vehicle was first purchased.the passenger side front floor would get wet when it rained.the clips were not sealing the pillar and the windshield leaked.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While parked and attempting to open the window, the rear hatch window exploded. The contact mentioned that the failure had occurred various times.the contact also discovered a whistling sound from the back of vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the window molding and the hatch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 208,000.

The rear lift gate jams. After reviewing several blogs, this appears to be a popular defect.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. While the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for the gear shifter replacement due to corrosion, it was discovered that the subframe was corroded. The mechanic advised the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 100,398.

Back window exploded - no contact - not moving.it was parked on the side of the road, nice day, no more then +5.

On june 3, 2008 the contact had the rear end gate controller, the lower end gate hatch accelerator and the left upper hatch accelerator repaired, and the failure had returned. The dealer stated that the parts had broken again. The contact feels this is a safety issue because items fall out of the vehicle on the highway when the hatch opens. The failure mileage 50 and the failure 72000.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.the contact stated that while opening the rear lift gate glass, the glass shattered. We purchased this vehicle brand new, we have always highly maintained this vehicle. We have a washed it weekly at our local hoffman car wash. We have a monthly service which includes wash hot wash and under carriage wash, i feel such a expensive well maintained vehicle such not have a rusted frame. We noticed at around 50,000 miles it was starting to rust underneath. We just had this vehicle serviced and the mechanic told us it is going to be a safety issue soon. We feel gm should be held responsible in this situation.

My 2004gmc envoy slid into a curb and rolled on its side.i believe that the accident was caused by ball joint failure.i could not get any assistance in the investigation, but i know that the accident was caused by mechanical failure and have pictures and witnesses for this accident. The vehicle was totaled as a result of this accident.this vehicle was purchased new and never had any repairs or work done on the drivers side front wheel.it was a 2004 model with around 20000 miles.i would any information that you can provide and would also like to go on the record with this complaint against gmac.i would hope to keep someone from losing their life due to this mechanical problem.the loss due to this accident was over 30,000 dollars.

The cluster gauge quit working.first the gas gauge stopped reading the amount of gas in the tank.second, the speedometer and tachometer quit reading.about a month later the oil pressure gauge stopped working.currently out of the entire cluster gauge system the battery meter is the only gauge that works.

2004 gmc envoy unsafe hitch.consumer states that clip is supposed to hold the hitch pin in place is so designed to fit over the pin to hold itin place, is not safely design. Consumer is requesting reimbursement. Theconsumer stated a safer design for the pin and clip would be to have a hole drilled into the pin whereby the clip could be inserted into thehole thereby alleviating the possibility of the clip being jarred loose from the pin. The consumer stated while driving, the trailer slightly went airborne, flipped on the passenger side, then on the drivers side, and the tongue of the trailer started hitting the back of the vehicle. The consumer soon discovered the safety chains had come loose.the manufacturer of the hitch denied the consumers claim. They stated that their product was safe and there was no stress on the clip.

Dashboard and gauges kept malfunction speed odometer reading incorrect had to replace also rear door burned out very costs very high.

My 04 gmc envoy was having problem with the battery not holding a charge i went and purchased a new battery at autozone installed the new battery after the install we went to drive our car and the ac would only blow through the defroster vents and floor vents. I went online and looked at many websites forms and youtube videos with the same complaints of other owners stating the same thing happen to them after replacing the battery. I have found over 5000 complaints of the same issue this seems to bee a known issue i believe this needs to be recalled now my ac will not work because of a known issue with envoys as well as trailblazers

All electrical power all gauges, locks, radio , goes on and off locks unlock and lock all information panel lights up and goes out all gauges lights up and goes offall warning signals that is .

Vehicle was parked and 11 hours later car ignited on fire and burned completely. Security footage shows that vehicle was unattended and that there was no tampering. Firefighters observed that the fire started at the front of the vehicle.

Every time this truck is due for emissions, a service engine light appears. Cost me 1k one year, 12k, another yr, $800 the last time. Huh? i will never buy a gm product ever again. My family only drives gm!

My mechanic said parts of my frame were missing and it was rusted enough that it could not be repaired. I originally though my rear u-joint was going out.can't fix it, can't sell it.it only has 170,000 miles an is in great shape otherwise.

Going down the road to work my airbag light comes on and wont go off and now i cant get a inspection sticker there was no reason for my light to come on unless there is something wrong with vehicle!!

While traveling at highway speeds with a 2004 envoy the instrument cluster displays the wrong speed and showing a significantly lower speed or becoming "stuck" showing a higher speed.

After driving vehicle tends to lunge forward even after brakes are stepped on or after parked at a red light, in the first case driving at highway speeds, the speedometer freezes and hangs, during this occurrence we do not know what speed limit we are going which is scary and a safety concern especially with children in the car, to troubleshoot the problem and bring speedometer down to zero mph, the car would need to be turned on and off numerous times to set back to zero

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.when attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitates abnormally.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure and provide a remedy.the failure and current mileages were 75,000. Updated 06/03/09 updated 06/04/09.

I was driving on the highway with the cruise control on.when i tapped the brakes to turn off cruise control, my speedometer was stuck at my cruise control speed of 65.my vehicle came to a complete stop and my speedometer backed off to 45 mph, but would not return to zero.after stopping, then turning onto another highway, my speedometer was still stuck at 45 mph.my cruise control was previously set at the speed limit for the highway at 65 mph and i hit the button to resume cruise control.when i reached my destination, i turned my vehicle off, thinking it would reset to zero without power; yet, it is still stuck at 45 mph and my car is off and parked in my driveway.

The cruise control is intermittent.

Speedometer is completely disabled , rpm and battery guages inoperable and gas guage sometimes does not work.i understand there was a recall but i did not receive any notification and now i am told it will cost between $400 and $500 to repair.

My envoy's cruise control will not engage at any speed above 60 mph. When the cruise control button is pressed the cruise control light will come on and go off again, without engaging the cruise control setting. However, at anything 55 and under the cruise control will engage fine. Also my 4x4 will not work either.

Speedometer flucuates past 120 and sometimes drops past 0 while driving. The fuel gauge will showfull even when it's not.

I like to know if you receive any complains or somebody report problems with accelerator pedal for gmc envoy (02to05) like loosing powerno accident but can cause somethanks [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Dt: contact stated the accelerator pedal had to be replaced. While accelerating to make a left-hand turn the accelerator would not take.the service dealer replaced the accelerator pedal.the repair was covered under the warranty of the vehicle.this remedied the problem.updated 11/29/05.

I purchased a 20054 gmc envoy in february and we took our first long distance trip this summer.at interstate speeds on downhill slopes the cruise control bucks continuously, which i consider potentially dangerous.the local dealer told me that this was inherent in the design of the vehicle, and that many others did this also.i have never encountered this with other vehicles that i have owned.

On a cold cleveland ohio day, i started my 2004 gmc envoy and turned on my rear defrost, and about 5 minutes later my rear window just exploded!i was on the highway, and the sound was like a gunshot, and it nearly caused me to get into an accident, but i managed to pull my car off the road safely.

The back window on my gmc envoy 2004 exploded when my son was closing it.thank goodness the glass pieces hit and cut his forehead and hand and not his eyes!

Hello, first off, this is not a vehicle issue or complaint.this is an after market component issue regarding bosch evolution wiper blades.i purchased bosch evolution all season wipers for my 2004 envoy from woot.com and installed them last summer.they worked fine until last month when winter weather hit here in new york state.in cold winter conditions three things have occurred:1.the wiper latches are lifting up (releasing) allowing the wipers to no longer be secured to the wiper arm.my passenger side wiper has actually separated from the wiper arm twice so far, and i have had to pull over to retrieve the wiper from the street while avoiding traffic.2.and, in cold winter conditions the wipers blades are taking a 'set' thus scraping the window loudly in one direction instead of wiping the glass in both directions.3.also, the cold weather is making the wiper blades form into a curved shape away from the glass, instead of being flat on the glass.this prevents the wiper blade from contacting most of the windshield.i could not see where i was going because the wipers only cleared the window at the top and bottom edges because only the ends of the wiper blade were making contact with the windshield.i believe this is a manufacturing defect and more importantly a serious safety issue. I contacted bosch automotive and they replied they only have a 30 day warranty on wipers and i should contact the seller. Because of bosch's i don't care attitude i am contacting the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) regarding this serious safety issue.sorry to bother you with this issue and i look forward to your response.thank you for your time,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Simply driving down a smooth road, no bumps, and rear hatch glass shattered. I've read hundreds of complaints about this happening to other people's envoys. At first i thought somebody shot out my window because who has ever heard of a window just exploding for no reason. Well, apparently gmc found a way to make windows, "just explode", and then weasels their way out of paying to fix this embarrassment of american engineering. From what i've read gmc has refused all cases compensation for this problem, so i came here to voice my frustration because i don't have $795 to fix my truck. I am wondering if this problem should be considered for a class action lawsuit. My 1999 vw jetta was part of a class action lawsuit because the ground effect trim would get caught on parking blocks and cause damage, but this window exploding is a much more serious problem. So i will call gmc on jan.2 when offices open back up, and depending on how that goes i might call up a buddy who practices law to see what the chances are for a class action suit.

Last evening our family loaded into the envoy and my son opened the hatch halfway and realized he forgot something and ran to get it.the car was not running yet.we heard a loud "boom" and glass shattering and hopped out.there was glass all over our driveway and even pieces up to several yards away.the glass on the hatch had exploded.it was extremely scary and we were so relieved that my son had not been standing right there and that the hatch was partially open so the glass didn't blow toward my rear facing infant, toddler and 8 year old son already loaded in the car.luckily no one was injured but my children did later cut themselves on shards of glass that made it over to the yard.the whole experience was incredibly upsetting.even our neighbor came to help.we are extremely concerned about our children's safety in this vehicle.our insurance covers the cost after our $500 deductible, however, we are afraid the window will blast out again and afraid especially for our rear facing infant and sons riding in the very back.i cannot imagine why a recall has not occurred since this appears to be an issue others have experienced.

Turn signal failed and would freeze, or would activate the 4-way hazard lights.the dealership replaceed the relay switch. Approximately one-two months later windshield wipers came on without the switch being turned on after i had cleared mist from windshield ,and will not turn off, almost caused collision. The deaker said the internal module ruptured.

Spare tire release mechanism dysfunctional.i was unable to change to change a flat while on the side of a very busy highway.had the vehicle towed to a automotive tire and repair business, and they could not remove the spare either.i searched online and there are a number of similar reports/complaints concerning gmc trucks and suvs, at least 2002-2012 models. Mine is a 2004 envoy. E.g.http://www.carproblemzoo.com/gmc/envoy/spare-tire-problems.phpthis design failure could lead to significant injury or adverse health impacts (exposure, hypothermia, etc.) especially to elderly or inability to change a flat while in remote terrain, or areas without cell phone service. There is no safety release backup that would also bypassing the defective tire release mechanism.
